No. 6 Virginia goes cold, Boston College wins 63-48
"For the third time this season, the Boston college eagles defeated a ranked team at home this time over the 6th ranked Virginia Cavaliers 63 to 48. The eagles were led by Makai Ashton Langford who scored a team I 16 points and dished out four assists. He always tells us to be unselfish and try to find the open man and we did a great job of cutting hard. So it caused the defense to kind of mess up one guy and then the other guy would just be wide open. Virginia was held to under 20% shooting for me on the ark, while BC scored 34 points in the paint and shot 52% for the game. Great Gadot ski, Boston

SI Boxing with Chris Mannix

"Into something that he's not. He can't humble himself down so I don't see him coming back. I don't think he needs to retire. I do think he needs to move back up and wait to super middleweight. I think we have seen and I know you disagree with this. But we have seen that guys cutting down in weight. It costs them something with the chin. Like it makes them more vulnerable to getting knocked out. And that's what I think we saw with Chris Ewan. I don't think he was hit with a lucky shot. I think he was hit with a good shot, a shot that Liam Smith planned to throw, and I think he just couldn't take it. And if he can't take a Liam Smith punch, how is he going to take like a Gennady Golovkin punch? Or even, we'll get to this later, but even a Connor Ben punch in that situation. So I think for starters, he should move up to one 68 and start fighting there. I also think he needs to reevaluate his style of fighting. I'm not saying, look, Roy Jones is one of the all time greats in boxing. And if they want to continue working together, they absolutely should. But whenever I watch Chris eubank fight, he fights like Roy Jones. And he tries to rise and guys can't do that surgeon. What made Roy Jones special? Was his reflexes were off the charts. He was one of the best reflexive fighters that anyone has ever seen. And when he got into trouble later in his career, is largely due to the fact that his reflexes started to erode. It wasn't because he changed his style. It's just that he couldn't be as twitchy in some of these fights. Chris eubank was never that twitchy. And yet I see him out there in the ring, he's got the arm dropped, he's swinging around, he's moving a little bit like Roy. It's like with Floyd Mayweather. Only Floyd can do the shoulder roll. Guys try to mimic it, they don't do it particularly well. Same thing with Roy Roy fights like Roy. And if you try to fight like him, you better be blessed with the same type of reflexes. So I like to see you bang go up to one 68. And start to tweak his style. He doesn't have to fight like Tim Bradley, but I think he does need to fight a little bit less like Roy Jones. Is reflective a word? It is. Just check in. Mister Boston grad. All right, well, look, Boston college. The reflexes, yes, what made Roy Jones junior great is his reflexes in the power and speed. That combination of the three, which is a rarity for a boxer to be gifted with, normally, gifted with one of these lucky two of his great, all three, that's athleticism. That's Superman right there. That's Superman type talent. So don't ever try to compare yourself to Superman. Freud Mayweather junior, another Superman. You can't compare the speed, the power that he added lightweight, the twitchy reflexes that you said, man, this is like, these are like Superman a box and when it comes to reflexes and you can't, you can't compare their speed and power to anyone else.

"See similar dynamics crop up yet again. Emily Wilkins, thank you for that report from the halls of Congress and the history made yesterday, miss Wilkins with Bloomberg government. Paul, I got to, I haven't looked at the 401k yet, but most certainly even triple leveraged all cash, you know, the payout I had to make to the manager. You know, it's like a two O one. They've raised a retirement. Like it's in the Bill, they're gonna, you know, I can't retire now 'cause now I could finally put money aside. The retirement disaster in America. They're addressing. They are. I mean, I don't know. I can't even imagine retiring, but again, my last job would be as a greeter at Walmart. I keep saying that, but it is the fact. No, it's interesting. I mean, I think you think about it, just think about our parents generation with the maybe the last generation really with the pension plan, the defined benefit pension plan. Do you remember those? Wow. So I mean, if there's one thing I've done for my children, I've just ingrained into their head 401k max 401k max every year. The math on this Boston college does the best work on this in the world. I mean, they've got to center for retirement. It's just superb. And nobody gets emotional about this until age 42. That's the mathematics. Plus or minus a couple of years. So I've had poor luck with the offspring who are not 42 for younger. But I like it in the new legislation has an automatic opt in, which Peter orzag. His talked about for decades. Right. And so a lot of unfortunately, a lot of Americans are not prepared for retirement, depending upon social security. And as long as I've been on this planet, people have been talking about the risk for social security going forward. And I don't know how to it's just always been there and I don't know, I haven't heard it recently as a big, big issue, but as our population continues to age, will there be enough people contributing to social security to fund the people on social security that's always been the challenge that math there is very challenging ergo max your 401k if you go. There it is, a new legislation coming up. Let's do a complete data check to get you into the next hour. It's going to be really quite an hour. Bitcoin off $200, 16,600. "This is wet notes here on scuba shock radio from monday september thirteenth. Two thousand twenty one first up today is in another idea for diving with a purpose in one of the most recent newsletters from the coral restoration foundation the coral chronicles. There was a report that cr f. is teaming up with the atlantis. Dive resort in douma getty to offer a unique opportunity to participate in a week long program at the result in helping them build and maintain the largest coral nursery endowing. Actually the town where. Atlantis is located. The program is being sponsored by the coral restoration foundation. The loveland living planet aquarium and the meat foundation. The program runs from september twenty fourth to october. First two thousand twenty two there are planned educational sessions on coral ecology along with restoration efforts and techniques. You also conduct restoration. Dives along with some fun dies. This sounds really fascinating. One of the pictures into newsletter showed the table coral at apo island. I vividly remember that area when we dove air in two thousand nineteen there wasn't any pricing available in the article and you'll have to contact the hotel directly if you have the time and desire to dive with a purpose check out this program and market on your calendar. Long time ago. Donna and i lived in hawaii that was in the mid nineteen eighties. At that time we got to experience. What was probably one of the first while in walls in honolulu. If you're not familiar with wilem walls you can check them out. The wall was a large mural of the humpback whale on the side of a building near waikiki. It was quite impressive. Well it might not be a while and wall but if you happen to be near brant rock in mansfield massachusetts you can catch a the view of a mural of a large shark painted on the side of an old restaurant according to wicked local dot com. The mural was painted by a local artist. Shane leonard. Shane was a former football player at boston college. Who has a passion for painting and a passion for sharks. Now the muros on the side of the former arthur and patch restaurant that closed back in two thousand fifteen. The shark faces divers as they head down ocean street which is a one way street. So you can't miss it say. Shane says he likes the way shark. Show emotion. the photo is pretty impressive. there's no guarantee that the building won't be torn down. Now that is unoccupied but according to shane. Even if it doesn't survive it was worth doing so if you happen to be near mansfield mass check out the shark mural on ocean street about a month ago. Patio wear foundation announced their fourth annual aware week. Now this year it will run from september. Eighteenth through september twenty six two thousand and twenty one the whole idea behind aware week is to empower the global dive community to lead or take part in conservation activities in courses focused on local action for global impact in the past aware has focused on two elements marine debris and vulnerable marine species this year in concert with patties blueprint for ocean action. That dive shops can participate or by conducting aware classes like dive against debris coral conservation or the aware specialty. Also like us. You can become a one hundred percent aware dive centre where you provide a monthly contribution in support of the patty certifications you award. We are very proud to be one hundred percent aware. But here's something that. Patty aware foundation needs to work on. We need more notice as to win. Aware week is happening. I wasn't sure what was happening this year and our calendar filled up and we weren't able to get things scheduled as i mentioned at the top of the show. We've already created are twenty twenty two calendar and it would be nice to know when aware week twenty twenty two is happening. I also mentioned at the top to show that the re photo contest results were in and that i didn't win while scuba diving magazine. Magazine's two thousand and twenty one through the lens contest is also complete. The winners were recently released at scuba diving. Dot com and the photos will be revealed in september october special photo issue. They received one thousand seven hundred and nineteen photos from around the world. The contest categories included behavior compact camera macro and wide angle. The entries were judged on beauty originality and unique encounters. I check them out and they are spectacular. Now if you wanna get a jump onto twenty twenty two contests they will start accepting entries january third two thousand twenty two and you can submit your photos through may thirty first two thousand and twenty two and finally we recently received our two thousand twenty two aqualung buyer's guide along with information on all the new products coming down from aqualung apex. So i thought. I'd give you a little preview on what's on the horizon. I from aqualung. They are releasing a new regulator the helix pro and the helix it looks like the helix pro is a mid range regular and i think it's replacing their core. It is a balanced first and second stage in his environmentally sealed with four low pressure ports and two high pressure ports. It was built for cold water and has the automatic closure device or a cd. lower end. helix is not environmentally sealed. And it doesn't have a cd and it's designed for warmer water. Also coming out in two thousand and twenty two is their new. Aqua fluck aqua flex men and aqua flex woman wetsuits. I think it's a redesign of their tried and true. Aqua flex line they also have a two millimeter. Free flex wetsuit now. The i one hundred computers going to come in a new color yellow and speaking of colors. They've added a number of different colors to various products including something called sand petrol red and orange as for eight packs. They also have a new regulator the xl four osha and it is billed as a totally sustainable regulator bay from post consumer waste it comes in grey or mint with some great etching. On the first stage. I suspect it's just like the xl four plus being an overbalanced diaphragm regulator with two hp and four l. p. ports. It looks pretty. Sharp and apex is releasing a new dive computer to the sx. It will be program can program up to six gases and monitor six transmitters. The has a titanium basil making it lightweight endurable but also has a color display. There's something more that require. Some more research It says it has in oh to analyze or onboard. But no to sell gotta check that out a little bit. There's a lot more out there and over time. What do you see Potential record record or records for the Bangles this year. Mm hmm. I think I think seven or eight wins. But I am there. I'm a big buyer on this team. I love Joe Burrow as a leader in a quarterback and I think they're going to be in a lot of games this year. And I think I heard you earlier talking about anywhere from four wins, 2 10 and I really do agree with that. I think they can Didn't go anywhere in between. But I really think if not this year within the next few with that offensive firepower, and then maybe a couple more pieces on defense and that quarterback he stays healthy. "Is he. I don't think drum ravitz is he in the league. I really don't know he's the thirteenth pick in the draft. I saw him play in the g. League couple years you go. It was unbelievable the night i saw him thought he's pretty good at college. I liked him at boston college. But i don't know if he's on a roster right now that's unbelievable either either. I was a fan of the draft. I don't even know he's around now he was. He was waived by the wizards share test. Crazy yeah i mean. There's a couple of those now. Because i miss a little bit later but porta-john then at fourteen that'll be interesting to see the border during battle the very interesting to say because with porter jr. you know the talent is obvious. Nineteen points per game last year can shoot from anywhere. It's six ten can do do a lot off the dribble and constantly improving. He's are good rebounder. He's improved as a defender even though he's still not great by any means but with the injury concerns are looming. That's still something that's always going to be there for him How much is denver. Willing to wait. They were willing to gamble on. Drafting him the very happy to do that eager to do that. How much are they going to be willing to pay him. A heck of a lot of money which he obviously is gonna want you like him as a third guy that your that your core. I don't look at it. Like i think like some nights what you spend the money on. Though i'm saying is that good enough. Yokich murray porter i think so i mean hell one of the. Mvp you over twenty million today from michael porter during over twenty yes over twenty five. No so that somewhere between twenty. Maybe maybe like twenty five right like i mean. I think that that gave him. I mean i don't know if i'm doing a fifth year. That's that's dependent upon to me. And i kinda wanted injury insurance on there right. Like they did with isaac. Like they'll probably do a jackson junior. Yeah i'd want that with border. He did not have a good play offs. Probably not the best time to cash in. Honestly you know it wasn't that great without murray For him Likewise herder should probably cash right now coming off an eastern conference finals appearance. Andy he a big big nights I think kevin hardy probably cashiered.

"20 WBS em live from the Matthews Brothers studio. 844 542 42. That is the toll free number of the Howie Carr show. It was just just looking at the New York Post to see if they had picked up that story on the, uh, the the discrepancies in the Coronavirus death toll. They haven't picked it up yet they would normally be the first The first media outlet in the Empire State to pick it up. But they haven't yet anyway. 844 540 to 42 we learned a couple of days ago over the weekend, actually. That B C Boston College was was forcing All of its students to get the vaccination before they returned to school. I think the first classes or August 30th in the orientation begins on August 23rd. And that's like a lot of college is a lot of most schools, I would say are are requiring it, but there but the exemptions are fairly wide open. You know you don't have to. You don't have to do a lot. But at B C. They have made a conscious decision, and this was confirmed in their statement to the Herald last night, when when we asked them about it, they have decided that they are going to make it almost impossible. Catholics to get the vaccination waiver. And the reason they say that they they think they don't think Catholics should get the waiver. Is because as they put it, uh Uh, Given that Pope Francis, Cardinal Sean O'Malley and millions of Catholics worldwide have been vaccinated, it is difficult for Catholics to make an argument. Against Covid 19 vaccinations. So in other words, you have, you know, unlike if you're I don't know or Christian scientists are Congregationalists. They're a member of the nation of Islam. You can't make the argument that people that your religion is against the vaccine, but that that's that's totally No, that's nonsensical because we have here. From the from the Vatican. Note on the morality of using some anti covid 19 vaccinations. This was from its of some Vatican. Bureaucracy, the congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. And it says here Paragraph five. The two page single space document. Practical reason makes evidence that violation is not as a rule of moral obligation and that therefore it must be voluntary. So it doesn't say it must be voluntary accepted. Boston. You know, college, it says it must be voluntary period. Why? Why? Why can't it? Why does it have to be, uh, mandatory? Okay, now they say that's that takes care of the pope. Okay? How about the Cardinal? The cardinal doesn't control BC, It's controlled by the Society of Jesus, the Jesuits, But he does control the Archdiocese of Boston, which has all these schools that my kids went to, certainly for a long time. And here here is the Here is the announcement of greater flexibility regarding Covid rules for Catholic schools in fall, 2021. And Covid vaccination of faculty, staff or Children may not be mandated by a Catholic school. May not be mandated by a Catholic school. So how is it that BC is going against the Written Rules or the written regulations of both the Vatican and the Archdiocese of Boston. Why are they doing this? It's It's ridiculous and it's not, And it's apparently it's not just for the students, either. We've we've talked to, uh We've talked to. So I talked to a cop today at the F B B C cop and apparently, about half of them don't want to get vaccinated and they're being told. You know it's our way or the highway. And it's It's just It's just not right, 978 says. I work at B. C and we were forced. Also, I have to load a copy of my vaccination card. I also have to give the date if I ever had covid That has to be in the records. I just I don't get it. I I don't understand this and and again. The What makes it even worse is that they're discriminating against Catholics, and I guess it's not just Catholics. But I think if you're in if you're a member of another religion It's going to be easier to get The religious exemption. Not not every and again I think that I've heard And I can't confirm this by heard that they've They've gone after at least one or one evangelical Protestant who goes to the school, and they called per minister to say, Would she be, uh, excommunicated or whatever the word is in the in that Protestant denomination. If she if she got the shot. But I don't think that they're going to enforce it on on other religions or most other religions. They just think it's time that you find your own religion. I I agree. I agree. But are they? Are they going to go along with that? That's the question. Are they going to allow PR? You know, Suppose I said, Suppose, suppose one of my daughters didn't want to get the shot when she was there, And I said, Well, now you're going to be a Congregationalist. You think BC would buy that that she had suddenly become a Congregationalist. I don't. I've never had any documentation that proves what religion they belong to, or believe in. I don't know what the formality is there. I guess you could all well she I mean, she was She was baptized. First Communion. Confirmation went to Catholic school. All that kind of stuff, but I guess she could claim I mean, even if even in that case, you could claim your convert right? Yes, I was never raised Catholic. And I've never really outside of funerals and weddings have been to a Catholic church. I was raised in a Christian church. A fairly non denominational and there was never any Signage. There was never any certificate. There is welcome to the religion. Nothing like that. You just show up. I don't know who you are when you walk into the church in many cases, right? So what would you tell him? Would you tell him? You know I have a I have to tell them some very unkind non Christian words. Yeah. Do you think they would be? I mean again? Well, the question is, Would they believe it? I doubt that. Believe it if you told them that, But you know, would they would they accept it? That's the question. It's none of their business. It's I I know, I know it's none of their business and and again. Notable Developments on the College Basketball Coaching Carousel Scuttlebutt
"A lot of movement on the coaching carousel. Over the past couple of days the big. One of course was indiana firing archie miller. After four seasons. We talked about that on a previous podcast. So go find it. We're not going to spend any time on that here but let me walk you through the other notable developments richard patino out at minnesota and as up tuesday morning. He's the new coach at new mexico. State has quote parted ways with steve. Prohm depaul finally took. Dave laid off the hot seat list. Boston college hired earl. Grant penn state hired mike castrucci berry dead leg spin a pretty good right now. It's spinning man. Yeah listen we give the. We are gearing up for this tournament. We got we got more than forty eight hours till. We're gonna tip the first game here so as expected. We've had some movement on the carousel. So we'll let's get into a little bit of this This scuttle but here kind of take it job by job. Best job openings indiana. Let's kind of go in order. I guess second best job. That's open. I would say iowa state is a better job than minnesota steve. Prohm gets fired late monday night. His jamie pollard was on the selection committee so he traveled back as he should have to meet with promo person and do what he what needed to be done You and i both seven the podcast in january. We expected steve prone to return next season. But we also didn't expect iowa state to never win a game like he just got to an irreversible point. so he's done. He put out a classy statement on tuesday morning. And i don't know whether or not steve prohm will land somewhere else head. Coaching position this coaching cycle but he will be a head coach again. He did take iowa state to three inch tournaments he was really good prior to that at murray state and certainly qualified for. It's just a matter of Is there anything out there. That he would be offered or anything out there that he would want as for the job. The candidates we're early. But i'm told that this is certainly a coach that you know quite well as well i'm told jamie pollard definitely will be considering. Unlv head coach. Tj burger near the top of his list. I can't say that he is the favorite. I just think that it's objectively true. That tj also burger will be under consideration for the iowa state job along the likes of. You're going to hear puerto moser connected to multiple jobs on this podcast because let's face it especially if he wins at least one tournament game. He's just a hot name. And he's going to be attached to iowa st paul minnesota. I i don't know if you'd be a favorite for state. But i think his name makes sense. I think utah. State's craig smith might make sense and then a high. I do have a wildcard one. Uab's andy kennedy has gone to the sec. Good job at ole miss. He's just one year and at uab but he had he had a really good year. In fact i think he won more games in his first season. This past season than just about anyone. Maybe all of all of the first year coach coaches. So i think that's a fact no first year coach at a new program. One more games this season than ak i. It's just i'm lobbying out. There is a name that should be considered. And then i did see fran for shila tweet this and i do. I do think there's something to it. Like a baylor is a one seed could be in the final four. Hey first time since bill henderson all that good stuff tang is a is a high level power conference assistant that is deserving of an opportunity would come at a power conference level. I don't know. But i think it's only a matter of time before jerome tank. Its job as well. So i'm just tossing him in knows the league as potentially someone that They should consider or at least at the very least interview sets an initial pool of

Let's start with your story though. And i and how you really got into natural health So probably don't even know this. I was born in australia. I grew up in the outback. And i spent a lot of my time with the aborigines. Knee aboriginal caves very early age. I was surrounded by natural and natural medicine and then came to america. One eleven on after having been exposed to know cars. We didn't have toilet. I i should tell that really different kinks america and my parents are both holocaust survivors. They were from europe so we never did a lot of the conventional ways of eating to begin with and from a. You're young time. I knew that i was very interested in going into alternative medicine. I went to a program with harvard. Medical school nurse practitioner. Actually and boston college. Because i knew then i needed have a standard had to do research. Look at double blind placebo. Controlled studies also understand. Where does the notion of nutrient come into play and we started women. Two women in nineteen eighty-five before anybody was doing any alternative medicine. We were the first all women practice in the state of maine. No one had done functional medicine or anything like it in the state of maine and we were equal partners. Md nurse practitioners. so we. I've been on this trail for a long time understanding that if we educate women in particular about their biochemistry in their health and start to understand. What's upstream we will be healthy no matter what age in our medical system now says many times. Here's the drug will get you better well. It doesn't get you better. It takes his symptoms away and oftentimes makes worst symptoms on the other side. So i'm passionate about this. I love what i do. "Always financial calms Got a lot of great resource is They're increasing to check it out. If you haven't in awhile, let's go to the phones. Talkto Alejandro Alejandro you with all words. Money matters. I thought that you guys were great. Thank you. Thank you for taking my call. So I'm a 33 years old. I work for Ah Law enforcement department here in Sacramento County, and we're one of the law enforcement departments would actually pay into Social Security. We have our pension as well. We have Ah, 2.7 57. And I guess my question is Eyes, my pension going to like, knock out my social security in the future with the windfall elimination, Not if you're contributing. The windfall elimination occurs when people are not contributing to Social security and they had contributed at some point in the past. So it typically applies to in that what you see, it mostly, is in the state of California's teachers, not administrators. But teachers and even that varies from district to district. But 2.7 at age 57. What may knock out your social Security is changes in tax law. Or changes in how they measure your need for social Security. So you're talking 24 years in the future? How do you today? 33. So you're talking about 21 Way the way did you retire? Planned near retirement for no so security plan. Your retirement is if you're not going to get a diamond Social security Yeah, That's my sauce. I figured till security. Just be a cherry on top. Yeah, I put in tow. I put into my Roth and I'm opening a Roth Ira, But I'm gonna have my pension, of course. Um, yeah, I just figured so Security bonus on top, but I had heard that there was an option of opting out of Social security. Is that something that's even possible or is that just it's not by individual and that time is past years and years ago, this archaic to the state of California. Certain departments at the state of California decided to opt out. But not all did. So. If your department did not opt out, Um, Sacramento County law enforcement, I guess still face. That's right. That's right. And so you've got 32 years before you actually are eligible for Social Security under the current rules age 65, But I expected that will be 67 or 68 or 69. By the time you get there. And your retirement eligible with age 57 suit. Obviously, you've got some time in there. Are you in there? Are you front line? Law enforcement? Are you in the street? Yes, sir. I'm thank you pick up Thank you. Thank you. It is a tough, tough, tough, tough job right now. Um, I have a friend have a friend that recruits for our law enforcement and they're struggling to get people to join the force. For two reasons. I've heard of a lot of people retiring early because of it. Yeah. What's going on in the world? Well, we appreciate you being there would be a world of hurt you, ma'am, but without people like yourself, So thank you. I appreciate the call. What with What we'll see. We'll see. We'll see what what? What? What It's like without as much law enforcement that some of the experiments in different cities will tell us how it's gonna work here in the next year or two and such if you're young. So security that the trust fund's gonna be broke by 2030 2031 2030 to depend on seven many years, nine years out Now, before we're gonna We don't have enough money coming in T cover those expenditures. If you're 20 years away from so security plan on it not being there for you. Do you have to You have to Because the reality is, if you actually make a good living and save well, there will be most likely there will be needs based testing in order to determine what who knows really, what's gonna happen? But you're You're better off to plan like it's not going to be there. And if you get something great Had planned like there will be no Um There will be no such security coming in because that's Yeah. And speaking of that Such security about planning for retirement. The outlook for financial security for workers aged 32 59 deteriorated in the year 2020. So this is a sentiment scoring. That the Boston College has done year over year over year Last unconscious, done a good job on retirement studies and For whatever reason there one But this is the reason I bring this up is because this is Alejandro was 33 relatively new in his career falls into this 32 59 age, as do I. Is this Mr Hanson, But 51% of households now have they have a feeling that they're not going to be able to maintain their standard of living in retirement. And that's up slightly from the year 2019 which was 49% how money so 51% believe they're not compelled to maintain their standard living in retirement. What percentage of current retirees can maintain their standard of living. They had pre retirement Probably that it's not more right. Yeah, probably that so there's two ways to do to address this one is change your standard living. And while Before retirement. Or save more, which would require you to change your standard of living before retirement. You know, Here's an interesting Oh, thinking, and I don't see a lot written on this. But here's what we've witnessed as being in this industry for 30 years. Here's a very typical situation. Right? Typical situation. There's going to be a man and a woman having Children. Typical situation Most. The time married has been a wife married kids. Uh, During the workplace, either one. The spouse isn't working full time or isn't working at all. Or there's a lot of other expenses. Expenditures were there's a different station and incomes. Then there's the kids go off to college of some sort or trade schools, So there's a lot of expenditures. But then the time comes when the kids are Very much gone. They might still be living at home her back and bouncing back before that, but they're not costing the parents much at all anymore. That's number one number two typically people at their highest wage. Time in their fifth, say their fifties, right the highest wage time and often times people standard of living will increase sometimes dramatically. During their fifties and early sixties as they're preparing for retirement when It really should either stay the same or decrease. Depending on how much they have saved for retirement would not correct and that that retirements some nirvana that we all need to shoot for, but Roughly half of us are going to retire earlier than we had planned because of a health issue changing our job situation. Right? We all know people that it occurred to you that could be used well, so making sure you're prepared for retirement is important, but we've certainly seen a lot of people. Have increased their standard of living. Haven't saved us much they should. Now it's like a double whammy when they go to retire, because now instead of China replace 70,000 of income. Now we're trying to place 100 and 10,000 or whatever the number is Scott. I When you say this reminds me of a point years and you're still client of the firm years of years ago, they retired from one job in their mid fifties and started receiving a pension went back. And Took another job. That was of the same page the job they left so their income went up by You know what went from, Let's say $280,000 overnight. And they were intent and spending every dime of that. And I told them, I said, you know, My guess is you're you're going to probably go out. Buy yourself a $5000 grill in a big hot spa tub and put a new poll in and travel born, buy new cars and puts him dead on And they said, This is a dangerous thing. They started laughing. They said. I said, What are you laughing? They said that we already bought the barbecue and we're at this. We're going to the small place tomorrow to look for the hot tubs and we have already booked the trips. I said This is a dangerous, dangerous place. You're getting too, which is you're increasing your standard living before an ultimate retirement date, in which case You're going to have to decrease your standard living. So what we really should do is just keep it the same and pretend that extra income was never ever there and save more of it for retirement and there was a reset. That's what we ended up doing with them. And they retire comfortably, You know, four years, five years in the future, But this windfall wasn't gonna last forever, and what I didn't want them to do is increase their standard of living only to be disappointed in retirement..

"Whole security system again, according to Boston College will go through 2043. So that's the way to pick up another 10 years by just making that change. So if you're in that income bracket Then you better be looking at that now to figure out how you can reduce your income and possibly put some more of that money away into tax deferred or tax free vehicles that you could draw on later and retirement. Because otherwise you're gonna be paying more taxes, just that simple. Also what I found Fascinating. Were you born in 1960 or 1961? Well, if you were your social security benefits are going to be cut. This wild and that just because there was a glitch that just occurred last year in 2020 as a result of the swift recession we saw in March and April. It effects yourself Security benefit. So if you fall into any of these categories, and you're just tuning in right now, you're not retired yet, So security is important to you. And if you're already retired, it should be important to you, too, for trying to time when you take your social security, particularly if you have a spouse who also will be eligible for that. So Perhaps the more you think about this The more you think about, Well, my makes some sense to reexamine this and see if I can put myself in a better position when it comes to my social security, So I have to rely on the politicians. "Hard in practice after the two game Virginia Road trip with a goal of raising their intensity and energy levels, and that's certainly seemed to pay dividends. Against Boston College. BC led for about a minute and a half early in the game and never let again. You know, Jack, I thought we had to kind of send a message. Maybe at times coming out of Virginia. We felt a little sorry for ourselves When nobody's going to feel sorry for you. We've got to grow up and own it and we were not good enough on the defense event, and we did not compete Harvard enough. Get loose balls. And so we need to do that on Thursday and Friday, and I thought it did pay off in our game against Boston College wander and tied the game afford a nice feed from Prentiss hub and coach Tuan seemed to benefit from those two intense practices before the B C game After missing the shoot around with back spasms, he turned in a terrific performance, recording his first double double of the season and forth of his career with 12 points, 11 rebounds and to block shots. Well, I love the rebounding, stat. You know, That's something we could really use Morfogen him and I've challenged him continually. You know you're gonna play long enough minutes. I think you should be close to eight or 9 10 rebounds a game, So hopefully we've broken the ice on that front, but a lot of respect for you, Juan and how he's felt to lead a little bit with this group now is 1/5 year senior and he used to captain And he knows he knows his teammates really need him, even though some days his body doesn't feel great. He's learned how to fight through that and still compete. And speaking of fighting through neatly. Schelsky is dealing with being opponents main defensive focus right now, but it didn't bother him in the first half of this game. He gave you the lead at 74 with a three and that started a strength of eight straight points by Nate to really give you some momentum, and it could have been a one man 10 point run. If he hadn't missed a couple of free throws. What I appreciate about Nate is now that people are really leaning toward him defensively because of the unbelievable start that he had. He doesn't force things. He still lets the game come to him. He is our most unselfish defender and helps and talks and rotates. Certainly rebounds the ball, and he's found a way now because they're taking away him at the three point line, a lot of times driving and getting found Now we gotta work on those free throws, knocking him down because I know Nate can be an 80% free throw shooter. When all said, and done Now you took the lead for good at 15, 12 and Nick Joe. Go grab the rebound and race down the floor before finding trey words for a transition. Three. Well, The one thing about Nick Joe go from day one has been He has been solid. He has been steady. He knows who he is. And and that was a heck of a play to kind of jump start US trays known as a scorer, but he doesn't awful lot of things for you. We only scored five points in this game, but he had three rebounds and three assists in 29 minutes. You're the one thing about him. I don't He takes a little pressure off of prentiss up. He is a playmaking more. He's good off the dribble. You could even say is kind of a point guard who can also score it, But he loves making plays for people. He's a great passer. He's a really intelligent player like Hub. I really challenged he and and prentiss the Thursday Friday leading up I just thought they could be better defenders and they've shown Sit down and be more athletic defenders. They were, but it's something we still have to stay on him about. BC shocked of all very well in their win last season at Purcell, which I know you remember well, and they had made 18 threes and their previous game against Miami. But when you took a 21 12 lead midway through the first half Part of the reason was your defense, which has limited. BC Three for 14 shooting at that point. Well, we were worried about defending them outside the arc, especially coming off a game against Miami, where they made 18. And so we were more aware of really getting out and chasing out and I thought our guards that are big guys on screens. If we had to switch out on their shooters, we were very alert. We were more aware than we were through the whole state of Virginia. Quite frankly, we were more Where and we're gonna have to stay after that, Jack. Now, bc did rally They cut your lead to 21 19. And that's when you want. Durham hit a turnaround jumper from about 18 ft. Away at the shot clock buzzer. What were your thoughts when he knocked that shot down? Well, we kind of have a set when it's low clock side out of bounds. And really, it was a two man play. Dane Goodwin, taking the ball out of bounds. Did a great job of waiting toe till Juwan was open. You know, Juwan was contested at first, and then he got position again. Game fired it in there. And, you know, Juwan has a great stroke facing the bucket. We've seen that he could make free throws. You could make a 15 18 footer every down that he could make a three point shot. But I just thought the two of them understood the game situation. And that was a big bucket because you know, bc had some momento in there in the first half, and it took a while for you guys to take that mo mentum away. They did cut the lead to one with 5 24 left in the half. But that's when your guys took control with a 12 to run and you hit the locker room at halftime with a 10 point lead. Yeah, I thought we finished the half Well, we were able to get out in transition. And get some easy buckets. You know, it's funny when you get stops defensively, it's a license to let you go run and play. Five on 44 on three were really good in those situations, But we have not given ourselves enough of them because their defense is let us down a time. Now you and I have often talked about the importance of the opening minutes of the second half. Of any game and this one. You certainly wanted to maintain your lead..
