Kawhi Leonard Has Surgery to Repair Partial Tear of Right ACL

"Crazy breaking news. Kawhi Leonard had surgery for a partially torn ACL in a lot. That's not good explains a lot. Yeah never heard. I had never heard of an ACL injury that you know, didn't require surgery or wasn't some level of at are they're so hyper extent, hyper-extended knee injuries, and things like that. But the way they described that the ACL injury, I mean, I saw another kind of stuff that they were trying to play their, you know, you always have. I don't know what they're sending out mixed signals on injuries, especially in the playoff series. You know, is a guy going to play tonight. Is he not dead teams? Do that a lot, but it was always weird to me that an ACL injury was played, in a way that he could have possibly returned, cuz now surgery is going to knock him out at least. For part of next season and there's a guy that can become a free agent opting out this year. So you might have the Clippers in a situation here where they kind have to do that Katie thing and eat part of that first year just to keep them long time. And this is tougher guy who already was starting to deteriorate a little bit and it's lower. Body had to take a lot of load management days since 2017 with that injury against ZaZa. And, you know, was always kind of a guy that was dealing with something in terms of body. So this isn't going to help.

"The celtics per soccer practice facility in boston this billboard went up campaigning for becky hammon or terra lawson to be the next head coach again. Keira has worked on the celtics staff. She is just fantastic. Monico who do you think is the best bit to code the celtics. I don't necessarily have a name yet right. Although i liked the connection that care has but i have three cs. Candidates should have they've got to be able to connect with this squad. They got to be creative in the offense and the talents of these guys and they've obviously got to be able to convert in terms of everything that they're doing practice. I'm behind the scenes. Has the translate on the basketball court. Care i kind of liked that idea so this answer. I am no way shape before trying to take this coach away from the current currency. Which is nate. Mcmillan from. The atlanta hawks. Because i think the hawks likely will try to keep him. But i think what mcmillan has proven and shown what he can do with trae young. Just imagine what he could do. Because he's defensive money he has all the pieces. He has all the young talent offensively. Mcmillan would be good candidates as well as becky hammon. I think hammond that she can handle a team. I think she won the something. Many years back spurs obviously and she took control. That team did a great job. So i mean. I think there's some great candidates out there ought always chauncey billups after-sale. Who's put his time in as well. But i think make is showing that he can handle superstars and and take them to the next level. If the hawks don't take him snatching maybe it's up

"Lose against. This is a method upper-right. This is much as I have to say. That's it. That's unfortunate. So, you have time to Celtics have left John speechless, look at home. You know what? Bobby's going to say something. That'll accept me. More than what happened tonight? I'm sure. So, I don't know what. Bobby go. Go, go, go, go ahead. Now, the pressure is on the do it. I was going to say is that you should a sense coming into today, that's what Brad. Said, free game that the teams kind of packing in at this point they're in a good position to walk up 7. They obviously have some guys with some bumps and bruises here. So it wasn't surprising to see smart kind of packed in and we probably won't see him. The rest of the way. I'd imagined rabu definitely won't see the rest of the way as he tries to recover from that tariff do. I just wonder dog. Rodger and I were kicking this back and forth to start this one. Why is Tatum playing heavy minutes on a back-to-back? Why is Tristan Thompson still out there as he deals with a peck strain, you push in those guys and off the others back and you still don't even win the game. You kind of you said there in this game that you thought the Celtics were trying to win. John, I didn't see anything that pointed that out today. I didn't see it from an effort standpoint. I saw it from a strategic standpoint. You started taking them, you played Tristan, wasn't a hundred percent you played for, like I said, we can debate the merits of starting to remount Waters tonight. I understand the philosophy. I think you wanted him to calm down sex in a little bit. That was the theory behind that. I'm not saying it's the right call, but he clearly played the best. What he thought was the line up to win tonight's game, but I just didn't understand any of it, you know, like, you know, what's the point of planning? If you're not really going to try? What's the point of keeping Tatum out there till thirty seconds left in the fourth quarter of a game that had been decided for a while. Like why is dead? Still playing heavy minutes. Like what do you? What was the what are you doing? What are we doing

"Special guest tonight, tonight is Jeff Goodman. And before we get to his latest zesti, take on Joe Brown which we will a little bit later in the show. We just want to welcome him to the Garden report. Post game show and Jeff will give you first bite at the Apple. It's I don't know how many times we're going to say worst loss ever because it feels like we've said it a lot. It's hard to not bother. It's hard to not tell this the worst loss ever. This is so this Jeff they work. They were atrocious and embarrassment but I don't listen, I don't care that Jayson. Tatum and Kemba Walker didn't play. I do care because I think Jason should have been out there. I don't know how bad the injury is, or whatever, is dealing with public. And it came like this, you gotta be out there. This is what 11/12 games left in the regular season. You needed this win, you could ill afford a loss like this, but even without Tatum and Kemba last name. They were without shade gilgeous-alexander, and they stink, they absolutely stink. They're trying to tank they've got a garbage team other than Lou door and you lost. You had supposedly Dead one of the top 25 players in the NBA in jail and Brad. I thought, Oh, supposedly. And it starts now, you mean using all subjects, you mean you're not lose. That's the supposedly Factor know. It's, it's true. Jeff look. I think they rolled the dice on Tatum thinking we could get away with tonight and still squash out the window. And so we needed to give him a day off. Let's pick the game and they pick this one on the back to back on the front, end of a back-to-back, and it burned him obviously. And I don't think he's, I don't think he's hurt but I mean, I get it doesn't matter. "Right so i don't know but i would say this chris over his last several years which is which are the years that hardy gets criticized for. He had chris paul for two years. He had russell westbrook for a year. He had dwight for better or worse for part of that. So let's not pretend that those aren't players that you know if you plugged them into if you could time travel and put those players on the warriors now like chris. Paul would be better than anybody else. The warriors have dwight howard would be the best big. The warriors have You know russell westbrook would be the best best player of the warriors has so like you know. Let's let's look at the full expanse. Yeah i agree. And you know if i'm gonna say i learned anything about steph. It's that i think. His career could have more longevity than i thought it originally did. I mean steph. Because of his kind of his his his frame. I often wondered if his body would hold up you beyond eight thirty three thirty four but here. He is h thirty. Three having an mvp caliber season and oftentimes howard. And we've discussed this before. Shooting is not a perishable skill. If you have it you probably gonna have it. Throughout the course of your career and steph is showing that at age thirty three. He can play like this. I see no reason to believe why he can't do this. Through like thirty four thirty five thirty six maybe not mvp level but certainly all star level. And if he can do that that just widens the window. I think for golden state. Where initially maybe you thought it was two years now. It might be three or four with this group provided they fill in some of the blacks with guys that complement curry in clay. And even draymond with that group so that to me is the biggest takeaway from steps run. This year that i think he can be a high level guy for several more years to come well. There's clarity now right like he's eligible for a massive extension this summer and if in his sonny oh that works funny how that works so you guys just plan their minds of these he. I think he would've anyway. He's a competitor. That's the other thing that we've seen underscored right like dude loves to play loves to play at a high level loves these moments that he's having i mean and that's again like it's so much fun watching him but the clarity for the warriors is you know if you're like this with this roster if steph couldn't do what these do what he's doing you might think twice about an extension. You might think twice about how you're planning the next couple of years as you reincorporate. Clay is do. We really have a championship window. Like this is proof that you do. If steph were dragging at twenty two points a game at a lower efficiency and the warriors are ten games out of the playoffs. I think. Now you're starting to think. How much do we want to invest in him in an extension. He's really important to the franchise but are we making a mistake locking ourselves up into a guy who might be in decline and we really have a championship. Well now all that stuff is is answered. Yes you have a championship window..

"The most one players to watch in the entire league and showing that yes he can carry a lackluster roster. If necessary i want to play a little game here with you because you bring up the point of james harden. There's going to be that constant comparison. About what hardened versus with curry does Do you think that this warriors team is worse as a team than anyone. The james harden played on. Could ask you. I'm just started throwing this at you right now. So i'm not going to hold you to unknowing every team that hard and played on but i want to read you a couple of teams that hardened played on early in his time with houston. There was the two thousand twelve thirteen rockets that one forty five games made the playoffs. That team was led by harden the second leading scorer that year was chandler. Parsons who had fifteen and a half points per game. That was jeremy lin's year in houston. The legendary omar asheq was on the list of top scores and that team. Patrick patterson was on that team. The immortal carlos delfino was Scoring points on that team. That's one of them. That's a forty five win team. Thirteen fourteen. That team looked a lot similar. But it had dwight howard on that mix. I guess you can say. Dwight is makes the difference there with that group After that a fifty six win team and fourteen fifteen five hundred team in fifteen sixteen. That was the team. Hard and play with trevor aretha. Dwight played on. I guess you got to kind of look at that. That twelve thirteen season howard. Where i mentioned the parsons and lynn. And your favorite players are asheq and carlos delfino. I mean that's not that's not cross fetal was still in the league's. I can't remember the last time i've ever heard his name. He's luis scola playing forever. That'd that's that's not a great team. That's impressive that is the definition of lackluster. And that's an impressive. Feat could prime steph curry. Because we're not comparing like james harden twenty three or whatever to you know curry of at h three. That wasn't even that wasn't prime. James harden like that was pre primed. James harden prime. I mean prime in terms of. He's still young and healthy and can carry a huge load right. That's what i'm saying. We know that hard even had the him when he got there right. He been six six and oklahoma like no no. We knew he was really good. But you know was he great but nobody knew. Nobody knew he'd be this. Could fry mccurry whichever whatever you wanna pick out of his best year. Could he have done it with that team. Structured around him with the kind of system that works for him like maybe. I don't know that he couldn't have. He's built differently than hardened in terms of physically clearly the way he gets his points the kind of system that best befits him and if you put them into a system where it's just run a pick and roll and or just just leave the ball in his hands and make him create an and have a massively high usage rate. I don't know. I don't know if that's the best use of curry anyway. And it might wear him. Down hardens more physically..

"This tape when the mavericks first round. You're going to eat those. That's for sure i might more cuban. We'll be sending me all caps email hundred percent. I want to get to a couple of questions from social media. But i do wanna ask you We gotta touch steph curry and what steps done this year. Ten straight games of thirty plus points in the mvp conversation. I respect to johnson. I don't think he's guaranteed to win by any stretch. Thank you for that. You know twitter vomit. Recently magic that was that was a lot of fun to read. But it it tells you something right about steph curry. I mean we've i'll let you go first. But i've learned something about steph curry this year. What have you learned about stuff. I don't think this is what i learned. But i'm glad to see him do it. Just because like. I'm somebody who always believed in steph curry's ability to play at the highest level whether it was with clay and dream on next to him and the street the numbers warriors or whether it was with kevin durant. I think that people there are people out there. I am not one of them to be clear. There are people out there who have often been skeptical to to critical of his career. Saying well you know you beat you for first of all because he wasn't finals. Mvp he had kevin durant for the to the second and third championships and that first warriors team that won the championship. The cavs are missing. Kyri and kevin love so there are people who want to asterisk curry a little bit. Even though he's a back-to-back. Mpp wants unanimous the first unanimous in history and has anchored three three championship teams and Final sacrificed years there. People especially in the james harden camp who will say but look at because they need to. They need to fire back right. The criticism of harden his postseason failures. So it's yeah well. He didn't have the benefit of all those players curry had. Let's see curry. What hardened did and elevate his team every year. Make a playoff team by himself. That's what steph is doing right now. And i know the warriors were the fringe of the playoffs right now. He's missed a bunch of games with injury. And if you look at the game played their twenty seven and twenty to fifty five percent win rate that would be forty. Five wins normal year and this year would translate to being solved the seventh place where the mavericks right now. The and that's what i think. Pretty lacklustre talent around him to say the least hid. Who's their second best player at now. A an aging draymond who's three years removed from the all star game James wiseman was a nineteen year old rookie center. Who needed a lot of work. Couldn't even make it through the season. Healthy andrew wiggins kelly oubre ray like bays more like. Where's the talent on this team steph. Curry is putting up. "But it's within reach. If you don't like what happens at the seven spot now go finish sixth. It's in your control also. I understand like the reason. They're in a precarious. Spot is because they have been affected almost more than any other team in the nba. By covid january. It was a disaster for them. It was tough. Would try to make up for it ever since and they have done really well. They've rebounded really nicely and she'll be proud of that but that's why you that's one of the reasons why it's appropriate this year to have the plane as a buffer because other teams mean toronto miami teams that are that are that we knew were really good last year. Play perennial playoff teams. Look at where are miami's farther down in the state of this should be. Toronto is on the edge of playoff slash plan. Other teams have been affected too. In fact most of the league has been impacted on some level all to varying degrees of course. But that's why it's nice to actually have a little bit more of a safety net in this season in particular because it's been such a strange and screw year. Yeah i think long term. The play in tournament needs to be tweaked. Either think you don't need to have seven and ten involved. I have no issue with eight and nine being interconnected with some kind of play in game. I would like to see it. Be a situation where the number nine seed has to be within one or two games to have the opportunity to make the playoffs. I don't wanna see a scenario unfold. Where the eight seed has to play. The nine seat in the nine seat is like six games out of the playoff picture. I'd like to see it be a competitive race. They just add one more game to it to settle the differences. You disagree on that eight tickets. I know i've got. I've got two questions all right. So what is this. let's say let's listen to miami as as the example. Let's say that miami and your scenario there's a it goes deep and miami. Is this miami team. But they've lost jimmy butler for the first half the season they spend the whole second half scrambling to make up for lost time once he's healthy in their whole again and they finish five.

"He doesn't have that deep playoff resume. I think having to retire now actually works against him when his hall of fame case gets made because he wasn't going to be a star on this nets team but based on what we saw in the last couple of months or a couple of weeks or whatever was since he signed there he was going to play a role with that team as the starting center with that team so if the nets were to go on and win a championship and aldridge was going to play a role on that team. I think that would have helped his hall of fame candidacy and without it. I just think he's going to be that guy he he is going to inherit the role of that guy that becomes the bar. Like if you're better than lamarcus aldridge you get in. If you're not as good as lamarcus aldridge there's no chance you can. Thus the fifty percent fifty one percent chance of making it according to basketball zell. Exactly i mean you hate to say that for a guy who is at the end of his career who was not going to necessarily statistically do anything else to solidify his case. You hate to say that. He falls short of the hall of fame by maybe a couple months of play and making the finals with the nets. But that really might be when it comes down to. Because as i noted. There's no one signature playoff run or moments that says this guy is more than just those stats. There's nothing else to elevate him beyond his stats. That are good but not spectacular. Right let me ask you this. Let me ask this out. What's the difference between lamarcus aldridge and obviously the biggest differences. Chris bosh goes to miami. Wins a couple of championships and it goes to four straight finals with wade and lebron right. If he stays in toronto the championships never happened. And so you could say that bosh was simply the beneficiary of going to the right place at the right time right. I would say though that bush was the clear absolute centerpiece and foundation of those raptors teams. And i think i think played it a higher level than lamarcus aldridge overall if you go peak to peak. You brought up chris webber. We'll see if he gets in this year but like weber's peak was higher than the margins. Peak weber was also a playmaker weber was also just a much more dynamic score and was the most important player of a sacramento kings team. That you know like so like lamarcus aldridge made one five conference finals with the spurs chris. Webber made one conference finals but weber's covers. Finals were a product of chris. Weber's in large part and that's in sixty one games and was within. You know a breath of knocking out the lakers. The year of the lakers three peat. And that's an all time team too you know. They're that close to knocking out the shack. Kobe lakers in year. Three of a three peat. So chris weber's peak and his overall impact is is higher and i like the definition of hall of fame. That's this that when when when in doubt if you're not sure whether the other resume items like stats and an all mba and all that if if you're not sure if all those are there and you're still asking the question is he a hall of famer ask yourself. Can you tell the story of this era of the nba without this player. And chris. weber's case you cannot. Those were really important. They were influential. They were exciting and they made an impact. Lamarcus aldridge is career. I'm sorry falls. Short.

"Week. Lamarcus aldridge the seven time all star. Five time all nba forward. He announced his retirement. Because of a heart. Irregularity felt something in his last game against the lakers. Aldridge if you follow. The course of his career has had some heart related issues before he hasn't spoken publicly about it. But i would imagine. This was probably just the last one that he wanted to deal with. So we'll get to the ramifications on the nets and other time but lamarcus aldridge the player. Do you see him as a hall of famer. And i gave a couple of his credentials. They're seven time all star five time all nba. He scored very nearly twenty thousand points at nineteen thousand. Nine hundred fifty. You've probably like forty something away from getting their he's got some good statistics Some good longevity in this league do you see aldridge as a hall of famer. Yeah i mean first of all obviously thought that the marcus aldridge. Hopefully whatever the hard issues were is is something that settles down as a as a non nba athlete. Like you can have heart issues. That are not life threatening if you're not pushing the envelope and so hopefully whatever it is Settles down and and he's he's has a A great long healthy retirement and and wish him the best. I you know he had a really really really nice career right. Like sounds like the run-up to saying somebody's not a hall of famer. which is what. I'm going to say seven time. All star five. Like if that's the outline it sounds like you've got the requisite credentials right. That was two seconds and three thirds on all be ready was first team all nba. That's not necessarily a the only the be all end all on how to judge a hall of famer but career averages of nineteen points not quite twenty eight rebounds. Not quite ten one point one blocks. He finishes sixty second old time rebounds and fifty first all-time in points scored so he was a really good player. Who had a long enough career that he climbed those leader boards. And as you point out you know just shy of twenty thousand points which has often been a bar for entry for the hall of fame. Basketball reference has an algorithm of some sort that estimates. You're you're hall of fame probability based on the guys who are already in and for lamarcus aldridge. It's fifty one percent like he's right there at basically fifty fifty for the hall of fame. Which is why this debate will go on for some time. I i suspect. I just think that chris there's nothing to round out his resume. It's the basketball hall of fame not the nba hall of fame. So if you're if you're nba stats. Were really solid. But not dominant not spectacular. Not mind blowing and his are not well. You could still get in if you wanna gold medal. He was never on the olympics. You could still get an if you had some like really historic tournament..

"Good like. It's not my money i wanted to spend spend spend. Let's go go. Get miles star kelly. Doug mcdermott by the way. That team could use. Doug mcdermott brad. Stevens would have found a use for rotation one hundred percent. Let me finish with this chris. The stakes were boston this year. If they wind up getting beat by philadelphia in the second round. Does that mean anything. Do you think they'll be a reaction from this team. If they get beat early is bradley. beal available. This we're no bradley beal Around so so. I don't know that's the big question right. Like if this core just can never boston will offer romeo lankford to i granted. That's that's that's what harrison barnes stuff. The reason harrison. Barnes is not a celtic because the offers work painfully. Low for harrison barnes. And the fact that i mean sacramento was just really really hoping that playoff berth. That work That's the way we're gonna get a sack the sacramento kings. We're going to get to send boston a four man. That would swing this. This season and that was evidently jabari parker instead of harrison. Barnes art look if it doesn't work again if say they get second round eastern conference finals but they don't get over that home. There's there's a discussion about like. Where is this team going. Okay like his tatum and brown. And whatever the score enough you know. In and campbell. We didn't really spend a whole lot of time on it. He's playing better now but there is long-term questions about is he the ideal fit. He's making reaching kenny. Continue to buy into that and be a productive player now into his thirties. And so there's some question mark moving forward You know if tatum convenient continued to develop their they're still on the right path. And i do think there's if if a bradley beal comes available there's tough conversations to have and this gene does have to at least pay mine to what is who who is..

"Is it is it. Is it just as simple as that. You know like there was a lot made about how the celtics have the most days miss because of covid and it's pretty pronounced compare like ah there's that fancher tracking in a last. I looked there up until hundred and forty days and if you added the bottom. Ten teams in the league combined didn't have that many days mask. Were still a another twenty day. Drop off boston and next closest which is like dallas. Oh there was something to the idea that they never had continuity and cohesion or had that group out there. Their injury report if you look today when they've got a six game winning streak and they're missing half team nine. Cova illness and robin williams has got a sore knee. So there's just there's still going through it a little bit. But i do think having guys back tatum. Especially being further out of those Woods though he's admitted that he's still using an inhaler and doesn't doesn't quite feel himself but having the core healthier has probably promoted a little bit. Better brand basketball mannix. The one that i remain leery about is when you look at their numbers versus really good opponents. You know they. They're they haven't beaten the sixers they haven't beaten the nets got blown out by those teams. They struggle against the best teams in the west. Like as if i guess. That's where my pessimism promise from. I just haven't seen it against the team that they're gonna see as early around two in this postseason. No i think. That's that's fair. And i'd like to see them. Take on those teams with the full deck. Right like robert williams healthy smart healthy For as out and he was as you know was starting to get his mojo back before he went out of the lineup. I think the celtics used to say we got plenty of firepower and then they go out and sign your parker like and then they play jabari parker lake crunch time. Yeah i he played tweet about the time but he scored more points in one game with the celtics. All season in sacramento. So i do worry about the offensive punch that they're gonna have come playoff time. But i do think that the development of robert williams what smart brings to the table defensively energy wise. Plus what they can get from forty four hundred me is like the ultimate wildcard. Like he didn't. There wasn't a lot of fanfare in forty-eight coming to boston in fact it was more about well. They got forty. But they didn't get aaron gordon so they didn't really make the kind of big deal that the celtics needed to forty as a twenty point per game score we saw in that game against houston where he's at six three pointers in the fourth quarter. The guy can shoot it. So i think if he comes back and looks like the evan forty eight we've seen in orlando that to me is is the potential difference maker that i'm still not sure how is gonna fit in. Yeah i think we all know what their top five is capable of right. That corfu or of bud. Jalen jason. marcus. Whoever plays the center position like they've done well with tristan when he's in there but robert williams certainly add a different dimension..

Tatum Scores a Triple-Double Against the Bulls

"This was a game for all the Campbell haters because when Kemba misses the game, like I like Jason Tatum is cold as ice and you see the final score this one these guys could not buy a basket tonight. And this was the game that if Kemba Walker plays that's less time for Pritchard that's less shots for for Tatum who certainly couldn't you know wasn't on tonight and maybe they're getting better looks because Jeanne listen when Kemba Walker's Out There He commands a lot more attention than Richard does or, you know, whoever else you know Waters or whoever you want to put in there. So it's a little bit of a trickle-down effect. I will say I liked that song even though Tatum was off he found other ways to contribute. I mean triple-double tonight, you know, you don't want to just sniffed that away so credit credit for that

Tatum Leads the Celtics To a Nail Biting Win Over the Trail Blazers

"Celtics have been good and fourth quarters lately, especially especially closing which has been uncharacteristic based on how they've been in the season, but they went up against one of the most clutch teams in the NBA and it looked for a little bit there Celtics had that I think it's 117 109 and then they just kind of stopped for a little bit from that five-minute Mark of the one minute Mark not great shots. Thank goodness for Rob their bailed them out a couple of times with a couple buckets there or else they might not have scored at all and then Tatum with a freaking dagger at the end there which was you know classic no no no. Yes shot but I mean that's what score is due and you know birth. That was cold-blooded. So that was it, you know Marcus there at the end, you know, you'd like to see him hit the two free throws, but that was clever there with the Celtics did missed a free-throw trap the dog trapped the rebounder Portland had no timeouts no ability to to advance it. I loved this game. I mean, I know everybody was freaking out over the Denver game. I loved this game. Not just how they pulled it out, but I loved the pace they played with I love the intensity just felt like it was the whole game felt like it got kicked up a notch.

"We're talking about guys who played well we're not talking just about Tatum. We're not talking just about Jaylen Brown we're talking about some of those other guys are on the side who for the most part have not made an impact in this game Grant Williams. I mean only five points was a plus 23 and for once that was not a misleading stat when you look at how he was able to defend jokic how he was able to make a hustle plays like the one that we're just talking about where that wound up with Romeo wage. I filed at making a couple of free throws. You start going down this roster be on your big to of Tatum and brown and UC player after player after player making a contribution and gave me the one thing that it all says is that this team finally finally finally decided to fight they finally decided to fight but when games instead of, Georgia, Letting things play out the way they were they fought to be aware. "I'm anymore years. does he have left in him. I mean he's got a couple of years left on his contract. But how many years is you have left behind level. That's i wonder about that. I mean if you're phoenix you throw young players into a package to get yourself something that improves you and put you in position to compete for the western conference title this year. Yeah chris paul to your point is thirty six in may so by the time we get out to the camera. The playoffs actually start. I think i think we'll be in the plaza. Mayor will wrapping up wrapping up the regular season or something turns. Thirty six on may six. So this postseason run will involve a crisscross thirty six years old like guards in general especially guards of his size. Don't generally age well. Of course everything's off the tape. Nothing nothing makes sense other matters anymore. Anyway lebron is obliterating all of our expectations of what guys can do in their thirties in this league but guys his tend to fare better than guys across ball size. You never know. I talked about it being the cliff. You never know when the guy's gonna just go off the cliff the one day. You're elite the next day. You're just toast. I hope that's not the case for chris paul anytime soon but thirty six. Means you like your. Your point is absolutely valid. The time is now. Because if chris paul starts to fade in his next season with phoenix or when whenever that day comes at. You're transitioning to somebody else. You are different fundamentally different team. When it's not chris paul running the show anymore and so there is. There is a window here on the other. Hand window coincides with trying to deal with a lebron james who still playing like an mvp. At a clipper team that's looking. You know absolutely legit. A potent jazz team a really deep denver team. So if you're doing the win. Now move. And i'm not sure who that target is but it it that you're going all in at a time when the top of the west is so stacked that i don't know i you have to decide how much of the future you might be willing to sacrifice for the wind now move because you're you're it's still an uphill battle and i guess it would depend and this is where we get way into the hypothetical. It depends on who you're gonna get right and what you have to give up. And i'm not sure i'm not sure who.

"It's easy for me to say i've not emotionally invested bill. Let's take a step back here for a second. We know all the the obvious context for this season. Everything is weird. everything is off. Look across the standings by the way people like a lot of teams that we expect. Great things of our underachieving toronto and miami to name to in the east dallas in the west and there's a vast bastard expand just mediocrity right now. There's a handful of teams that are doing. Really well lakers clippers jazz sixers everybody else and the bucks everybody else kind of like the nets. They look really great offensive but the record. It's fine but you look at the record sales dominant. Obviously the celtics are underwhelming right now but like things are just strange and i don't think we can quickly judge anything that we're seeing right now especially in the celtics case chris they are. I believe what three and seven their last. Ten but marcus. Smart is missed the last eight games. They're three and five without him. Jason tatum missed a couple of weeks in january. Because of covid they were two and three without him. Chemists only played in twelve out of twenty. Six games missed the first month of the season. They do have some roster issues right there. There's not a lot of reliable depth on this roster jeff teague has been a disappointment tristan thompsons been a disappointment. They didn't really put replace gordon. Hayward we can address all of the personnel stuff. But i look at a team. That is really reliant on its top. Four guys and ken got a knee. That is not going away. The knee issue and missed a bunch of games and tatum. Miss games and marcus. Smart has been out like. I don't look at this and think that there is something particularly alarming about the underpinnings of this. This team i think they're hol. They're probably fine if chemistry holds up. But you know smart in particular. I think people are just sleeping on how important he is. He's not just this phenomenal physical defender and hustle. Play glue guy. He's also their leading playmaker. He's their best point guard. Kim has they're scoring point guard but mortgage sports. The best facilitator and tatum and brown is as a talent as they are. That's not a fully developed. A part of each of their games yet so missing. Marcus smart matters. So i don't. I don't know why these things kinda fall by the wayside as part of the context for their current struggles. When everybody is when everybody starts to come unglued about the record like there's some things have happened and they'll get they'll get through those things they'll get hold again. I call me crazy. I think the celtics are gonna be fine. I really do yeah to reinforce that point. I mean jason tatum. Jalen brown kemba walker. Marcus smart they have played a grand total of twenty eight minutes together. I mean when you look across the league at some of the top teams even a team like the clippers with guys in an either lineup. Like those numbers dwarf. What boston has had to deal with..

"When you stack this up bobby, you mentioned the four teams. I've the funny part about it was the team with the greatest expectations was the only one that didn't reach the conference finals. So again, every year that they've done so it fell. Over achievement, which is why you can draw this moral victory for some reason. This one just hurts more because of the path. Exactly. When you offer the proper context, you're like, wait a minute. So this other should be in the finals right now. Big about it before the shutdown is someone told you that the Milwaukee Bucks where I'm going to be there for this Alexa play and that would would top the? Sentence. Series. Much interest the heck stop them from getting to the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat and I'm telling you this much even going wasn't one hundred percent. It's still disappointment that there are unable to beat the team in the best series. Let's face it Jason tatum whether it's his ascension whether it's the fact that he's led this team is the number one guy or the fact that you know Jalen Brown has his ascended throughout this whole bubble I mean between those two guys alone then you add Kemba. This team is more than a talented enough to get the NBA Byles team like the Miami Heat I give them credit. They were the better team they outplayed the Celtics. You could make a strong case Eric spoke out coach Brad Stevens more your head and say. Something's should be in the final and. They they. They did whether it's not splitting those first two games or whether it was Neko's now game six feels like they show feels like those games those two instances that that was yeah. That has choke vibes for sure again. Much like Toronto it feels like There was a lot of self inflicted stuff. You know I feel like you know was making it harder on the Celtics they there I felt like Toronto brought the worst out of the Celtics because of their style of play there were. When we keep saying throughout the the last couple again, he was against the raptors though, right past team this is his toughest. It's going to raider and it felt it that felt like tougher series. It just felt like they just kept mucking here. I. Don't know what amazes me about Miami is that they went from being a five seed to a team that could. Take some games off take some last two games they were just kind of fluid playbay. Like they. They didn't play Great Ooh, they play zone. Big. You know like my goodness. Gracious, I think we're GONNA see what happens in the finals but I think you feel this way John to days going to surprise people again and all of a sudden we're gonNA look at them and say, wow, we didn't give Miami enough credit. How good they were like this team is a monster especially at the top and the way. They play together, pretty impressive like they started six. No. In these playoffs are seven. Oh, going through Indiana and Milwaukee two of the tougher teams in the east. Then they blow through Boston who if you look at it from their side it's like that's a tough match-up for us like they stormed through the east in a way that no one could have imagined yup. I'll be quick but I mean, I think in a series very disappointed. This series of Celtics could have won I think should have won those first two games execution down the stretch doomed them..

"Exact cordially not shoot the jumpshot. Oh, yeah, and and on the on the other side have Gordon Hayward shooting the jump shot from three-point line because Gordon Hayward has some place around fifty percent from the field and almost 40% from the three-point line. So I think you get a better sense of scoring with Jim and I think they were present more problems for Miami. What could you expect from Gordon or what fair to expect recording to come back in this series? Well, I think that they're going to try work flow obviously because you know going to say was entry but when you come up an ankle injury, you know you sometimes you baby it I love it. I hope he's able to push it back a bit more and I'm sure that the subjects waited and waited they you know, cuz they could have used them against the road, but but he wasn't able to give me anything Toronto. Okay you had now Palm. Four days of wrist and are you going to be able use them in the first game or can you get four more days of rest? So I think this others are going to be try to do either due diligence about using him but I think it becomes a bad. I think he should be I would expect you know counting the same Gordon Hayward a guy can shoot the ball from the outside run the floor maybe Thursday as well. But you know allows other Essentials course, you have to Garden. I mean no matter what you're doing or not. Gordon Hayward has to be guarded which spreads the court and off as far as Gordon goes. I think the big the big plus here is the playmaking abilities because you have to guard him so he can obviously find the open guy in the paint and took all of this you look at what's the high end of a Gordon Hayward injury. You never want to see anybody get injured but it did give Grant Williams symptom. Usually a lot of these guys off the Benjamin Moore run in the wage. Toronto series which I think helps helps the Celtics overall. Well, it gives them another opportunity other options to use if they don't have them and you always the thing you cannot do you cannot duplicate NBA game in practice. You can practice as far you want to but when you get in a regular game and a practice game those are two different things..

"The Boston Celtics live to see another day and another series of next to Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. I'm Sierra Goodwill here with Jimmy Toscano Joshua Volk and Bobby Manning. I feel like I'm manifested this tonight in my Miami Heat colors. I guess it was kind of amazed right right back in just wrapped up game seven a huge win for the Celtics, but it's time to flip the script right away your initial impressions of this match up with the heat Bobby. We'll start with you Thursday. It's going to be hard. I don't think any of us have to disagree about that. This team is better than the Raptors. They have more Talent. They have more depth and they do a lot of the same things that the Raptors do defensively better, but fortunately for the Celtics there are always some more of a transition team than a half-court team offensively. So it's a good matchup for the Celtics defense to the biggest difference now bam. Adebayo you go from our club. All who did nothing in the series to maybe the best center in the NBA if he keeps progressing the way he is that's a steep steep difference and he's going to be hard contend with. Yeah, no question. But that does going to see by mile Washington say that I mean put it this way in the pick-and-roll set which I think is something that the Miami he can defend really. Well I think bam is a big difference compared to dwell and be in compared to what we saw with Marcus saw whether you're putting him out there on Highland or whether he's a you know on a switch he can he can guard very he's much more different as an upgrade than Marcus all for sure. That's a big thing that's in my name is favorite. But yeah, it's obvious point. I think the transition defense that we saw throughout the the series I think that goes a long way with them they like to get out and help the floor. And of course they have Shooters. I mean these guys get going it can be a really long night when Duncan Robinson gets going like if her guys who aren't like for casual NBA fans, if you're not hip to Duncan Robinson like check.

I'm like yeah just want you guys. Has Anything substantially changed whether it's with regard to your own standing in Turkey or just the way things are going with the Turkish government. Has Anything substantially changed since you and I last sat down in January. I mean some of the things that obviously getting worst and mean and my brother actually can travel can go to Turkey and come back and I'm I'm always asking him. He's in America right now. I always ask them like hey. How was how was Turkey. I was my family. How is all this is. The people are just not happy. There's been a lot of terrorist attacks a lot of shooting and <hes> economy's going down and it's which is just getting worse and worse and you don't Wanna see your country going through their stuff and Turkey is a very important country because it could be a bridge of modernism in west by just because because of that stuff going on going on definitely impossible yeah we also talked back in January but the fact that your father was facing trial in a couple of months that was supposed to be in March two that happened so it did happen. They're scheduled to the Joe Fifteen and now again to October tents the reason they do this because they know they accuse them as much fodder and they know that he's innocent so they keep rescheduling his trial so 'cause they know if they do the trial trial that he's going to be innocent and he's going to be able to leave the country because if you're going to trial that didn't WanNa give you a passport and you cannot leave the country so they keep rescheduling this trial so we cannot leave the country so the next one is in this is the fourth time they delayed it was supposed to be June fifteen and Atlantic and October ten so now I don't know what is the next thing going to be so just hanging over him. Yes I mean whenever he left the house. They follow him and I'll listen every calls and stuff so the next one I'm going to be October. Aren't you think it will actually happen. They'll postpone again probably not probably GONNA postpone. Wow that's ending. It is subtle form of torture. You're just you just got this hanging over. You and you don't know you're limited and he is unknown. He you know what's going to happen and they're scared to put them in prison because they know I versus innocent and they know we can put so much media pressure from here the Turkey so they scare of fat so for me it just just I guess just way too October ten. See what happens yeah. You've been making the rounds last couple of days. You've been in New York. You've been bouncing around you been and I take and I think a bunch of other shows that are I in the title messing with my Guy Nick rights hair. We've become really good friends. He's a good dude. I did sometimes it's basketball. Sometimes it's about Turkey. Both are you you you you you enjoy you enjoy these conversations you really enjoy the back and forth with the media media which is great and we certainly those covered the NBA really appreciate it when you've got this platform where you can then be vocal about the politics back home and and world affairs. Is this when you when you decide to make the rounds over course of a few days here. Is that your hope is it that you know what I've got. You know I got this audience. I've got this this this platform because you you you've you made the rounds before. Is it important to kind of continue doing this to keep the pressure on to keep if your voice out there. It's important to create awareness. You know because once you stop talking about this conversation they're going to be that okay. He's title talking about this stuff than they can do all all that you know. They can't put my family. "Actually you haven't had a ton hon of of content. You haven't been up in Boston that much yet. Have you gotten any sense from Danny. AINGE Brad Stevens about the way they want you to play because like did we talked about the three point shooting clearly. That's going to have to be part of it. You Know Al Horford was a very unique kind of of player there right and he was a lot of talent there but he was that defensive lynchpin pinpoints he could you know he could spread the floor offense. He got it. Five positions doesn't even even at your best probably with your size your your build a house probably not going to be you would have they told you about how you can try to replicate at least some of what he did or at least you know you're going to bring more offense probably more rebounding ending then. Al Horford <hes> but they talked to you about where that balance is and how you fit into that scheme so that they don't lose too much defensive how whether the first thing they told me is rebounding owning you know because they told me they didn't really have a rebounders using US and <hes> I look now. I'm looking at one. We play against the Boston Celtics. Our game plan was crash. Offensive Rebounds everyday. They don't have rebounds so I think they told me the one thing. You know. There's going to be a lot of my says. Just go get defensive rebounding on the defensive rebounds too but I think like I said again I think when you play with guys like Jaylen Brown and Jason Tatum and Marcus Smart obviously I think they want to help you like they did in Boston. I'm just going to put more effort in it and just trust them. I think it's going to be it's going to be fine. I think some people thought we're when they see the the moves that were made in the off season there Kyri to camp okay well. That's that's that's tough but kemp a really talented offensive player and what they lose in. Maybe certain amount of talent. They're gonNA gain. Maybe better chemistry is kind of the you don't have to comment but that's kind of the sense and then with Horford to you. It's like well. There's a little defense gain. A little offense fence is that is that a fair way of looking at it that well the Celtics might slip a little on defense but they'll be better offensively and that's how the or or you going to surprise folks on that part of of it. I'll put up promise you this first of all. We're going to play better energy and wanting about Kemba Kemba beater. That's that's the most important thing but nothing you know. Obviously we just we just have to work on it. I mean obviously I didn't really play with none other guy so I don't really know yet but I think if you work on if you put Wpro mine on focus focus on I think it's going to be fired because Brow Labra soon he's going to be easy and four hundred teammates or planned together with snow say that that's got to be huge especially with Kemba being new though this time with Jalen sensory now yet I mean that's you can't can't you guys like play pippen summer and everything else but this is this is these are games that matter in the world and maybe the amazing they Turkey by one foreign washing since you brought that up okay no. What was that like for you. I did you watch the game live. I wash alive because I was going to a show yeah I was. I was like our nervous. Washer my phone yeah so you've got four of your teammates on one side yeah. It's your home country on the other side. Which of course obviously there's a little he wants me to be dead? Whatever Meyer Point <hes> but yeah I mean it must be mixed feelings are you are you rooting for Turkey in general and when it was charged versus the Celtics players who say I'll be I'll be honest..

"It was a really interesting thing I was one of those people who before last season. I thought the I thought the Celtics like that was going to be their year. I thought they were sixty. Plus win team. That's what I taught so. I promise it's weird that way right. I think we all underestimate and and I'd like I've been around long enough. I don't underestimate it but I think we sometimes forget in the moment. How Important Chemistry is that. Look this talent on paper in sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't you can't always predict it ahead of time there was every reason to believe the celtics powerhouse last season and and no reason to think it was. GonNa end the way it did so you're coming in. Kemba comes in the structure of that same basic core of the young guys as their you know <hes> Brown tatum Gordon Hayward in another year removed now <hes> from the injury the talent it looks like is there but people are looking at these right now and you've. I'm sure you've heard it's Milwaukee and Philly Philly Milwaukee. That's the discussion can make the case for why the Celtics are in there. I feel like I said I've definitely we can show shock. The thing like I said again for us. The talent is there. That's why so important to be be a good locker room guy because after a lust after a bag game saw so it matters how you act to other deteriorate your teammates and it does matter how you GonNa just move on and just start thinking about the next game so I think for me wanting we did with Casey when we went to the western conference finals end with potent too. We lost some games but we were just. We got a really good guys. Unlock my words over so so quick so I think that's all being a lot chroma. Be The glue guy is having a very important. I think people people sometimes aren't sure what to make of you in that regard because you are you're not only just outspoken politically with regards to your home country Turkey..
