NBA Great Bill Russell Was Racist Till the End
"Bill Russell, the former NBA Hall of Famer. Now look, I imagine there are some people who are very sad to hear the news that the Boston Celtic great Bill Russell died on Sunday. Not me. Not me. I never liked the guy. And I had it on good authority and I have it on good authority that he was a racist until the end. I know what you're thinking. No, AJ, he was the one at the butt end of races. Okay, yeah, he was, but he did it right back to white people. Now aside from the rumors I heard from old sports Fridays that I used to work alongside of it newsday, which is Long Island's main newspaper and when I worked there, it was the fourth largest circulation of any newspaper in America, so it's no rinky dink paper. Major, major sports writers wrote there. I sat next to and talked to and sat around with some of the best sports writers of our time. And a couple of them told me some stories about Bill Russell that, you know, didn't paint them out to be a nice guy. Okay? They would tell me stories that said as much of what I'm telling you that he was in fact very racist.

Alan Dershowitz: The Jan. 6 Committee Is Not a Fair Committee
"Check out Alan Dershowitz, the famed law professor talking about the real impact of the January 6th select committee. Here he was yesterday with newsmax's Greta van susteren. Well, it's not a fair committee, obviously. It's like the Boston Celtics going to play the warriors and the NBA says only the Celtics can go on the field, not the warriors. One team on the field, not the other team. Nobody should pay attention to the conclusions of this kangaroo committee. Of course a committee can make a recommendation. So can you make the recommendation to Congress, but to the Justice Department, the adjustment won't follow it. President committed no crimes. His speech was constitutionally protected. Ill advised to be sure. But constitutionally protected. I put it in the same category as Chuck Schumer's speech, both ill advised, both constitutionally protected. You know, that's an interesting takeaway from professor Dershowitz. Chuck Schumer arguably incited a would be assassin to show up at Brett Kavanaugh's doorstep.

"Of interchangeable ish wings. Guys were six five through six seven That all have length in in some ball skills like you kind of need that one guy who can allow you to do a little bit more in terms of playing the four if if there is another five out there maybe playing a little bit. Small way i agree. I think the thing is never been especially since he's been in. The nba like grants issue was never positioning like doing. The right thing is just as capable of doing it. And i think like i agree. Now that he's slimmed down a little bit. I'm hopeful but also it was just tough last year because so many mistakes were happening at the point of attack for the team like overall you really lost a lot of the ability to mask some of the issues that persisted with kemba walker And it just. It was a tough scene overall. So i'm very hopeful for grant this year and i think it's gonna come because like you mentioned like he is the one wing you can really count on outside of of jason jalen going to make the extra pass and they can see a lot of things and is good at moving the ball like he's just kind of like like talked about having that low usage fifth starter. I don't think it's going to be grant williams but like ideally. Someday maybe it is grant williams because like you need somebody who can do that. Like roy neo with the utah jazz. Like you and. I both have like a prolific love for roy. So neil what he does for that team like you need. You need something to have with. That and grant was another is another stocky. King could definitely make your happen. Who knows But scott. This was absolutely awesome. Man i appreciate you taking the time. I'm very excited to watch boston. Celtics this year and more borland. Text you about the boston celtics. Do you have anything you want to plug before. Gary you mention my kind of plans as a content creator or kind of up in the air so i don't really have anything right now I think the best thing to do is just keep on following premium hoops I might kind of expand upon that there but in the meantime even if you don't see me there you will see mark schindler as well as other illustrious contributors scott. I appreciate you mann's everyone listening. Thank you for listening. Most importantly have yesterday..
Boston Celtics, Robert Williams Agree to Four-Year, $54M Extension
"Wasn't Urowsky. The Celtics in Santa Robert Williams have agreed to a four year contract extension worth $54 million in the 52 games. He played for the Seas last season. Dennis Schroder Signs $5.9 Mil. Deal With Celtics After Rejecting $84 Mil. From Lakers
"Always good to check in on your friends every so often. And if anybody listening right now is friends with Dennis Schroder, you might want to check on my man like, Stop Whatever it is you're doing right now and drop them attacks nor an email or a phone call. Maybe hit him up on WhatsApp or Instagram do something anything to pick this guy up? Because Dennis had himself a week and a summer and a year. Remember back in March, Brian Wind horse had reported the Lakers offered him a four Your extension worth 84 mil. He turned it down. He bet on himself As always. I respect people who bet on themselves. You have to my man turned 84 mil into 5.9 mil a one year deal that he decided with the Boston Celtics. Kawhi Leonard Has Surgery to Repair Partial Tear of Right ACL
"Crazy breaking news. Kawhi Leonard had surgery for a partially torn ACL in a lot. That's not good explains a lot. Yeah never heard. I had never heard of an ACL injury that you know, didn't require surgery or wasn't some level of at are they're so hyper extent, hyper-extended knee injuries, and things like that. But the way they described that the ACL injury, I mean, I saw another kind of stuff that they were trying to play their, you know, you always have. I don't know what they're sending out mixed signals on injuries, especially in the playoff series. You know, is a guy going to play tonight. Is he not dead teams? Do that a lot, but it was always weird to me that an ACL injury was played, in a way that he could have possibly returned, cuz now surgery is going to knock him out at least. For part of next season and there's a guy that can become a free agent opting out this year. So you might have the Clippers in a situation here where they kind have to do that Katie thing and eat part of that first year just to keep them long time. And this is tougher guy who already was starting to deteriorate a little bit and it's lower. Body had to take a lot of load management days since 2017 with that injury against ZaZa. And, you know, was always kind of a guy that was dealing with something in terms of body. So this isn't going to help.

We don't really know how much of that was factored into the fact that he came out publicly in two thousand fourteen. He did play in the canadian football league for a couple of years. We've had kind of a handful of players. Come out after retirement ryan. Callahan was one of those who played for the pats. He came out in two thousand seventeen after he retired. He said a couple of interesting things actually said he was terrified of being outed while he was playing and he actually told the magazine out that quote. No one is going to assume. The big football player is gay. It's why a football team is such a good place to hide. I just thought that was really striking quote in terms of speaking to the culture of nfl. Football and i also wanted to highlight one more thing from nasr's post with video. He posted in writing quote young. Lgbtq kids are over five times more likely than their straight friends to commit. Bill wins jerry garcia. Gonna come to those a gray seriously. Jerry has been hasn't seen daylight since one thousand nine hundred sixty eight occurred since probably the truth but but yeah the guy came to the practices. then I didn't go. I didn't ended. The team went out with bill to concert. At the forum worcester the center arena was called To dead constant out there. And actually we're doc stage with the dead and they just one of the numbers that got some guys. Oklahoma state had chief. Larry up there with the dan marino morocco. Or something and you bring up a great point. People talk about bill wall and they they they assume he's zany grateful dead fan that used to play in the nba. People don't know i. I don't think many more people should know how serious of a student of the game. This guy wasn't how good he was and is the real deal. Donald passer donald defendants defensive player. Rebounder allah You know get a little bit. Kevin mchale used to kid bill with his offense and busies. Bill you got these world war you myspace aids like me. But he was. He was a very very good offense player. Just look back at wasn't colleague wasn't the nba nca championship game against memphis bills. Like like twenty one out of twenty two from the sealed in and then And then his years in portland with those teams a lot of offense running three am but but he was you could him to game and you know and not not have been a leading score always but you're concerned put up. Put up the points position but just all facets of the game in a defense rebounding etc. Yeah yeah in watching a lot of the highlights. I was watching you in that in that team. I just i couldn't. I was watching one video after another after another on the one video. That wasn't kind of with basketball. But i never seen this video. It's a commercial and i stumbled upon it. I must watch it fifty times in a row. It was the coolest thing i've ever i've ever seen. Do you remember making commercial. Greg for scotch and sirloin zach. Was the whole team. Do you remember that absolutely. Yeah we did that every year the rest of north end guard and you could walk there and so in exchange doing the commercial in could go up there and they can take guests and go eat dinner. I don't think most guys participated at and there was a lot of fun. I sent that to every celtics fan. I knew today. None of had seen a few remember hours in there. Just take it back by them. How great is this. The other will highlight. I saw which. I absolutely love was worthy was going in for a layup. And you you basically. I would call it a hard foul something today. That would probably get you arrested. Because today's as much different than the nba. You play flagrant today. But you don't want and that's my question. I guess here it's like i felt like that's what the celtics in the nba. I feel like are lacking issue right so. Pj tucker last week gets in durant's face and all of a sudden durant's bodyguard is coming out. I mean it's like are you kidding me. I feel like a lot of these guys. Greg and i said this questions dino roger. When i spoke with him i feel like a lot of these guys. Today would have a very difficult time in the eighties in the early nineties. Is there any truth to that or my being pretty hard in of today's players. Well i take just and you know what happened to things happen to Things one was kind of a gradual thing was some of these hard fouls Turned into guys just inside his felony guy hard they can shoot fritos and maybe making them think about it. The next time it come into the basket was that They turned into more just to this even going back into the late eighties. Earth pickering the ninety s Hard fouls were there. They were you know it was dangerous. They weren't just trying to turn know. Sometimes you did gold a matteo on rambus clothesline. Where kevin went and trying to close on. I'm trying to foul him from making a layup on this aspect but there were just two guys going opposite direction in iran speed but but then a bigger chains. That's that's really impacted. Today's game where physical was. I think in two thousand four or two dozen five. The nba defensive rules on hand checking at the ball handler on. Contact the post and impeding the progress or butler reviews colleague bumping the cutters off their pants on a spot so you watch nba today and and the reason they did that because store screen got stagnant after towards the end of the jordan era and A lot of average bad teams where slowing down the pace trying to trying to get a chance to win. And there was three games in the seventies and eighties. So that wasn't real. The best you know marketing and fan fan appeal and some teams are averaging in the nineties. So ideas. Good scoring up dan. You combine that with this explosion of three point shooting in spreading the floor. So yeah right now. You know you. You go to the basket. This incredible ball and that these guys aren't talented would-be mini europe and credible an-and ball and jukes. Different gonna moves now. But you can't touch them or it's a foul and i and guy At a you know it's a lot and their stuff even even to go to the basket you're going gonna get bumped him not around a lot of guys just rather stand out there and shoot threes are not take the analytics into the game but i think it depends on its swing a little bit too much in a way yes scorings up but if you go back and look at the Scoring average the celtics teams. We're talking about. We have raised over one hundred hundred and ten points a game in the eighty six hundred eleven hundred twelve and we were maybe anthony league in scoring molly at a lot of teams in the in the upper signing fans will be happy with that if there's corn teams are scoring on five hundred and fifteen again. They're they're it's exciting fast paced game but just a strategy change in those two teams have changed it so i have read a little bit of something else. Doing casey was making it. A maybe is a little step back a little more physicality allowed in some some areas to it a little bit more and more difficult so yes. I'm these guys. I mean so you know jordan or other top score and dr era you know where towards girvan or whoever it was a leading scores. He's you know during daily going thirty thirty five points a game with those rules back then they would score that or more. Now it'd be sitting. Someone will be suiting. You know a lot of three pointers. So you know the guys are. They're good scores now could scores and just the rules in just a little bit but I don't know. I don't know if it's ever consider that will go back to that. I mean they're they're making money. The most people did threes and.

"I guess we can talk about this in the offseason, but I'm only do with this John, but I guess the thing is, is I just hope that there isn't damage being done the way that all of a sudden, Terry Rozier didn't want to be here anymore birth. You would have been a perfect fit if he'd stayed and we wouldn't and we'd still have a young team that's developing and got some, you know, cut some, you know, chemistry and that's what Kyrie Rob from us and we lost that way. I'm sure there's more people that, you know, are involved in the souring of Terry Rozier, but, you know, nobody was higher on him than Danny. So, how the hell do we lose him? And, and by all accounts of purposes, they were tight, but I don't get it. Just hope that the same damage hasn't been done here. And that is why I prefer the veterans that are in town be on the downside of their careers, looking to help young team, get where they need to go versus taking a prominent role in the offense and that's my butt. But if anybody's going to have that position, chemist, a character guy to have it, which is why I don't really care of trade him or not. Because I know if we do trade him the returns, probably going to be Pennies on his contributions, you know, if he stays healthy next year. So that's going to do it for this wage. "Right so i don't know but i would say this chris over his last several years which is which are the years that hardy gets criticized for. He had chris paul for two years. He had russell westbrook for a year. He had dwight for better or worse for part of that. So let's not pretend that those aren't players that you know if you plugged them into if you could time travel and put those players on the warriors now like chris. Paul would be better than anybody else. The warriors have dwight howard would be the best big. The warriors have You know russell westbrook would be the best best player of the warriors has so like you know. Let's let's look at the full expanse. Yeah i agree. And you know if i'm gonna say i learned anything about steph. It's that i think. His career could have more longevity than i thought it originally did. I mean steph. Because of his kind of his his his frame. I often wondered if his body would hold up you beyond eight thirty three thirty four but here. He is h thirty. Three having an mvp caliber season and oftentimes howard. And we've discussed this before. Shooting is not a perishable skill. If you have it you probably gonna have it. Throughout the course of your career and steph is showing that at age thirty three. He can play like this. I see no reason to believe why he can't do this. Through like thirty four thirty five thirty six maybe not mvp level but certainly all star level. And if he can do that that just widens the window. I think for golden state. Where initially maybe you thought it was two years now. It might be three or four with this group provided they fill in some of the blacks with guys that complement curry in clay. And even draymond with that group so that to me is the biggest takeaway from steps run. This year that i think he can be a high level guy for several more years to come well. There's clarity now right like he's eligible for a massive extension this summer and if in his sonny oh that works funny how that works so you guys just plan their minds of these he. I think he would've anyway. He's a competitor. That's the other thing that we've seen underscored right like dude loves to play loves to play at a high level loves these moments that he's having i mean and that's again like it's so much fun watching him but the clarity for the warriors is you know if you're like this with this roster if steph couldn't do what these do what he's doing you might think twice about an extension. You might think twice about how you're planning the next couple of years as you reincorporate. Clay is do. We really have a championship window. Like this is proof that you do. If steph were dragging at twenty two points a game at a lower efficiency and the warriors are ten games out of the playoffs. I think. Now you're starting to think. How much do we want to invest in him in an extension. He's really important to the franchise but are we making a mistake locking ourselves up into a guy who might be in decline and we really have a championship. Well now all that stuff is is answered. Yes you have a championship window..

"This tape when the mavericks first round. You're going to eat those. That's for sure i might more cuban. We'll be sending me all caps email hundred percent. I want to get to a couple of questions from social media. But i do wanna ask you We gotta touch steph curry and what steps done this year. Ten straight games of thirty plus points in the mvp conversation. I respect to johnson. I don't think he's guaranteed to win by any stretch. Thank you for that. You know twitter vomit. Recently magic that was that was a lot of fun to read. But it it tells you something right about steph curry. I mean we've i'll let you go first. But i've learned something about steph curry this year. What have you learned about stuff. I don't think this is what i learned. But i'm glad to see him do it. Just because like. I'm somebody who always believed in steph curry's ability to play at the highest level whether it was with clay and dream on next to him and the street the numbers warriors or whether it was with kevin durant. I think that people there are people out there. I am not one of them to be clear. There are people out there who have often been skeptical to to critical of his career. Saying well you know you beat you for first of all because he wasn't finals. Mvp he had kevin durant for the to the second and third championships and that first warriors team that won the championship. The cavs are missing. Kyri and kevin love so there are people who want to asterisk curry a little bit. Even though he's a back-to-back. Mpp wants unanimous the first unanimous in history and has anchored three three championship teams and Final sacrificed years there. People especially in the james harden camp who will say but look at because they need to. They need to fire back right. The criticism of harden his postseason failures. So it's yeah well. He didn't have the benefit of all those players curry had. Let's see curry. What hardened did and elevate his team every year. Make a playoff team by himself. That's what steph is doing right now. And i know the warriors were the fringe of the playoffs right now. He's missed a bunch of games with injury. And if you look at the game played their twenty seven and twenty to fifty five percent win rate that would be forty. Five wins normal year and this year would translate to being solved the seventh place where the mavericks right now. The and that's what i think. Pretty lacklustre talent around him to say the least hid. Who's their second best player at now. A an aging draymond who's three years removed from the all star game James wiseman was a nineteen year old rookie center. Who needed a lot of work. Couldn't even make it through the season. Healthy andrew wiggins kelly oubre ray like bays more like. Where's the talent on this team steph. Curry is putting up. Mvp numbers at eight thirty three with a lot of miles on him like he's been incredible..

"When they were the seat. But like you. I've talked to all scott brooks about this a lot. Like you're not gonna convince that wasn't going through that with the lakers didn't make thunder. Yeah two years later. Were a finals team yet. Not fair and i think most of the time that it is it's it's a legit thing There is something to growth. There is something to playing against an elite team. Especially if you're the eighth seed by definition you're playing a one seed that probably is going to have the best players in the league on it and so getting to play in high pressure games in that spotlight against them as can be helpful. Plus it's you know you're selling tickets you've got at least two home games so it's good for the for the bottom line of the team. It's good for that fan base. It's good for belief it's good for you know showing whether it's your fans or free agents where team on the way up you should. You should want to be on board. So i i get that. But when when it's the mavericks or anybody else you know griping about the unfairness of this system. I would just say this you're really griping about the getting the right to get smoked in the first round. It's it's nuts. Some great honor to be the rate. I understand you want it but you think that drew this year. You think that's true this year at like seventy dollars against to seat phoenix like you think they get smoked last year. We we were saying that the trailblazers were going to be the toughest eighth seed in the history of basketball. And and they got smoked. Anyway let me just go through the stats before we talk about this years. Mavericks since nineteen eighty-four when they went to this current format the seventh and eighth seeds have the same record in the first round. Five and sixty eight over on the series. So that's ten upsets in one hundred forty six series over thirty six years but it's less frequent than that since two thousand three when the nba went to the best of seven so it used to be best to five so when people say. Oh but the the knicks as the eighth seed. Go to the finals back nine. Not only a lockout year but that was the best of five first round upset in a best of five than a best of seven so since the best of seven was installed in two thousand and three one seventh seed has pulled an upset. And that was the spurs and two thousand ten. There have been three upsets by the eighth seed since they went to best of seven warriors. That's the we believe. Team over the mavericks in two thousand seven mavericks are often on the wrong end of these things. The grizzlies over the spurs at twenty eleven and the sixers over the bulls twenty twelve. And that's got a big fat astra's because derrick rose goes down and game one with his infamous. Acl injury that changed the entire course of his career. So it just doesn't happen that often the seventh and eighth seeds. This is the problem like. There's no suspense in the nba. In the first round you know as a five going to upset a four putting up sentence quote marks possibly six over three happens sometimes sevens and eights beating ones and twos almost never happens and so what are we really arguing about. What the fairness of the play in you're like the difference between the seventh place team and the th place team might be big in the standings. But it's not big when it compares when you're comparing it to how they might fare against the one or two seat because they're gonna have the same fate they're going to get knocked out..

"But it's within reach. If you don't like what happens at the seven spot now go finish sixth. It's in your control also. I understand like the reason. They're in a precarious. Spot is because they have been affected almost more than any other team in the nba. By covid january. It was a disaster for them. It was tough. Would try to make up for it ever since and they have done really well. They've rebounded really nicely and she'll be proud of that but that's why you that's one of the reasons why it's appropriate this year to have the plane as a buffer because other teams mean toronto miami teams that are that are that we knew were really good last year. Play perennial playoff teams. Look at where are miami's farther down in the state of this should be. Toronto is on the edge of playoff slash plan. Other teams have been affected too. In fact most of the league has been impacted on some level all to varying degrees of course. But that's why it's nice to actually have a little bit more of a safety net in this season in particular because it's been such a strange and screw year. Yeah i think long term. The play in tournament needs to be tweaked. Either think you don't need to have seven and ten involved. I have no issue with eight and nine being interconnected with some kind of play in game. I would like to see it. Be a situation where the number nine seed has to be within one or two games to have the opportunity to make the playoffs. I don't wanna see a scenario unfold. Where the eight seed has to play. The nine seat in the nine seat is like six games out of the playoff picture. I'd like to see it be a competitive race. They just add one more game to it to settle the differences. You disagree on that eight tickets. I know i've got. I've got two questions all right. So what is this. let's say let's listen to miami as as the example. Let's say that miami and your scenario there's a it goes deep and miami. Is this miami team. But they've lost jimmy butler for the first half the season they spend the whole second half scrambling to make up for lost time once he's healthy in their whole again and they finish five.

"He doesn't have that deep playoff resume. I think having to retire now actually works against him when his hall of fame case gets made because he wasn't going to be a star on this nets team but based on what we saw in the last couple of months or a couple of weeks or whatever was since he signed there he was going to play a role with that team as the starting center with that team so if the nets were to go on and win a championship and aldridge was going to play a role on that team. I think that would have helped his hall of fame candidacy and without it. I just think he's going to be that guy he he is going to inherit the role of that guy that becomes the bar. Like if you're better than lamarcus aldridge you get in. If you're not as good as lamarcus aldridge there's no chance you can. Thus the fifty percent fifty one percent chance of making it according to basketball zell. Exactly i mean you hate to say that for a guy who is at the end of his career who was not going to necessarily statistically do anything else to solidify his case. You hate to say that. He falls short of the hall of fame by maybe a couple months of play and making the finals with the nets. But that really might be when it comes down to. Because as i noted. There's no one signature playoff run or moments that says this guy is more than just those stats. There's nothing else to elevate him beyond his stats. That are good but not spectacular. Right let me ask you this. Let me ask this out. What's the difference between lamarcus aldridge and obviously the biggest differences. Chris bosh goes to miami. Wins a couple of championships and it goes to four straight finals with wade and lebron right. If he stays in toronto the championships never happened. And so you could say that bosh was simply the beneficiary of going to the right place at the right time right. I would say though that bush was the clear absolute centerpiece and foundation of those raptors teams. And i think i think played it a higher level than lamarcus aldridge overall if you go peak to peak. You brought up chris webber. We'll see if he gets in this year but like weber's peak was higher than the margins. Peak weber was also a playmaker weber was also just a much more dynamic score and was the most important player of a sacramento kings team. That you know like so like lamarcus aldridge made one five conference finals with the spurs chris. Webber made one conference finals but weber's covers. Finals were a product of chris. Weber's in large part and that's in sixty one games and was within. You know a breath of knocking out the lakers. The year of the lakers three peat. And that's an all time team too you know. They're that close to knocking out the shack. Kobe lakers in year. Three of a three peat. So chris weber's peak and his overall impact is is higher and i like the definition of hall of fame. That's this that when when when in doubt if you're not sure whether the other resume items like stats and an all mba and all that if if you're not sure if all those are there and you're still asking the question is he a hall of famer ask yourself. Can you tell the story of this era of the nba without this player. And chris. weber's case you cannot. Those were really important. They were influential. They were exciting and they made an impact. Lamarcus aldridge is career. I'm sorry falls. Short.

"Week. Lamarcus aldridge the seven time all star. Five time all nba forward. He announced his retirement. Because of a heart. Irregularity felt something in his last game against the lakers. Aldridge if you follow. The course of his career has had some heart related issues before he hasn't spoken publicly about it. But i would imagine. This was probably just the last one that he wanted to deal with. So we'll get to the ramifications on the nets and other time but lamarcus aldridge the player. Do you see him as a hall of famer. And i gave a couple of his credentials. They're seven time all star five time all nba. He scored very nearly twenty thousand points at nineteen thousand. Nine hundred fifty. You've probably like forty something away from getting their he's got some good statistics Some good longevity in this league do you see aldridge as a hall of famer. Yeah i mean first of all obviously thought that the marcus aldridge. Hopefully whatever the hard issues were is is something that settles down as a as a non nba athlete. Like you can have heart issues. That are not life threatening if you're not pushing the envelope and so hopefully whatever it is Settles down and and he's he's has a A great long healthy retirement and and wish him the best. I you know he had a really really really nice career right. Like sounds like the run-up to saying somebody's not a hall of famer. which is what. I'm going to say seven time. All star five. Like if that's the outline it sounds like you've got the requisite credentials right. That was two seconds and three thirds on all be ready was first team all nba. That's not necessarily a the only the be all end all on how to judge a hall of famer but career averages of nineteen points not quite twenty eight rebounds. Not quite ten one point one blocks. He finishes sixty second old time rebounds and fifty first all-time in points scored so he was a really good player. Who had a long enough career that he climbed those leader boards. And as you point out you know just shy of twenty thousand points which has often been a bar for entry for the hall of fame. Basketball reference has an algorithm of some sort that estimates. You're you're hall of fame probability based on the guys who are already in and for lamarcus aldridge. It's fifty one percent like he's right there at basically fifty fifty for the hall of fame. Which is why this debate will go on for some time. I i suspect. I just think that chris there's nothing to round out his resume. It's the basketball hall of fame not the nba hall of fame. So if you're if you're nba stats. Were really solid. But not dominant not spectacular. Not mind blowing and his are not well. You could still get in if you wanna gold medal. He was never on the olympics. You could still get an if you had some like really historic tournament..

"Good like. It's not my money i wanted to spend spend spend. Let's go go. Get miles star kelly. Doug mcdermott by the way. That team could use. Doug mcdermott brad. Stevens would have found a use for rotation one hundred percent. Let me finish with this chris. The stakes were boston this year. If they wind up getting beat by philadelphia in the second round. Does that mean anything. Do you think they'll be a reaction from this team. If they get beat early is bradley. beal available. This we're no bradley beal Around so so. I don't know that's the big question right. Like if this core just can never boston will offer romeo lankford to i granted. That's that's that's what harrison barnes stuff. The reason harrison. Barnes is not a celtic because the offers work painfully. Low for harrison barnes. And the fact that i mean sacramento was just really really hoping that playoff berth. That work That's the way we're gonna get a sack the sacramento kings. We're going to get to send boston a four man. That would swing this. This season and that was evidently jabari parker instead of harrison. Barnes art look if it doesn't work again if say they get second round eastern conference finals but they don't get over that home. There's there's a discussion about like. Where is this team going. Okay like his tatum and brown. And whatever the score enough you know. In and campbell. We didn't really spend a whole lot of time on it. He's playing better now but there is long-term questions about is he the ideal fit. He's making reaching kenny. Continue to buy into that and be a productive player now into his thirties. And so there's some question mark moving forward You know if tatum convenient continued to develop their they're still on the right path. And i do think there's if if a bradley beal comes available there's tough conversations to have and this gene does have to at least pay mine to what is who who is..

"Is it is it. Is it just as simple as that. You know like there was a lot made about how the celtics have the most days miss because of covid and it's pretty pronounced compare like ah there's that fancher tracking in a last. I looked there up until hundred and forty days and if you added the bottom. Ten teams in the league combined didn't have that many days mask. Were still a another twenty day. Drop off boston and next closest which is like dallas. Oh there was something to the idea that they never had continuity and cohesion or had that group out there. Their injury report if you look today when they've got a six game winning streak and they're missing half team nine. Cova illness and robin williams has got a sore knee. So there's just there's still going through it a little bit. But i do think having guys back tatum. Especially being further out of those Woods though he's admitted that he's still using an inhaler and doesn't doesn't quite feel himself but having the core healthier has probably promoted a little bit. Better brand basketball mannix. The one that i remain leery about is when you look at their numbers versus really good opponents. You know they. They're they haven't beaten the sixers they haven't beaten the nets got blown out by those teams. They struggle against the best teams in the west. Like as if i guess. That's where my pessimism promise from. I just haven't seen it against the team that they're gonna see as early around two in this postseason. No i think. That's that's fair. And i'd like to see them. Take on those teams with the full deck. Right like robert williams healthy smart healthy For as out and he was as you know was starting to get his mojo back before he went out of the lineup. I think the celtics used to say we got plenty of firepower and then they go out and sign your parker like and then they play jabari parker lake crunch time. Yeah i he played tweet about the time but he scored more points in one game with the celtics. All season in sacramento. So i do worry about the offensive punch that they're gonna have come playoff time. But i do think that the development of robert williams what smart brings to the table defensively energy wise. Plus what they can get from forty four hundred me is like the ultimate wildcard. Like he didn't. There wasn't a lot of fanfare in forty-eight coming to boston in fact it was more about well. They got forty. But they didn't get aaron gordon so they didn't really make the kind of big deal that the celtics needed to forty as a twenty point per game score we saw in that game against houston where he's at six three pointers in the fourth quarter. The guy can shoot it. So i think if he comes back and looks like the evan forty eight we've seen in orlando that to me is is the potential difference maker that i'm still not sure how is gonna fit in. Yeah i think we all know what their top five is capable of right. That corfu or of bud. Jalen jason. marcus. Whoever plays the center position like they've done well with tristan when he's in there but robert williams certainly add a different dimension..

"Recent years but there's a skepticism about whether his he contributes to winning and given his track record in detroit and recently cleveland. Now you want to say it's not fair to judge in those contexts. Because of the players he had around him everything else okay fine but he had a pretty long run detroit through some decent seasons and not so decent seasons and you'll look as as the fifth or sixth most important player on a contending team maybe the fifth most important player you put them on the nets you put them on the celtics and then now i'm talking probably as again by bio candidate picked up in free agency for the minimum. He's he's a no brainer for the teams that badly badly needs size and rebounding and a little bit of resistance near the rim. No brainer if you're picking them up for the minimum or not much more but trading assis to get him given his track record. Some doubts about him and the fact will be a free agent. I mean that's that's where i'm just not sure. And there have been questions about him throughout his time in detroit for people who who were there about whether you know he he cares enough whether he really gives it all night in night out and cares about winning I'm not sure if that's a fair assessment or not. I'm not making that assessment. But people who have been in detroit and people have talked to people who were detroit have have said that that is the concern. And he's not a great defensive player either for all his rebounding skills. I remember this conversation came up when the celtics were kicking around the idea of trading forum in recent years and is numbers against joel embiid or not good. So it's not like if you acquire him you're getting you know an mba stopper or or something like that. All that being said you know it's like can we take a moment and reflect on the fact that a guy averaging seventeen and a half points thirteen and a half rebounds You know putting up some huge shooting numbers when it comes to field goal percentage of this year. He's been been off kilter a little bit. He's gotten a little bit more perimeter oriented that there's not a huge level of interest in him. I mean this is not since dwight howard. I seen a player. Put up these kind of numbers have nominal interest in what he can do with you. If you winds up as a free agent there'll be half a dozen teams or more that are clamoring to sign him to an end of the season deal. And i just i know you i take your point. That detroit did have some winning teams during that drummond era never contender by any stretch but a playoff team for sure. I just. I'm not ready to write a guy off that has been part of so many losing situations and never once thrust into one. That is really good. So if you put andre drummond in brooklyn with their competing for championship or in boston with if have a history of kinda reclamation projects with the celtics even toronto which has those veterans that have won a championship. I i'm not gonna say it's going to come out but i'd be very curious to see if there's another year to andre drummond if he's now suddenly playing for something. Do you not only get the seventeen and thirteen at that. You get from him and losing situations. Do you get more winning. Plays out of a guy that i mean can can do heck of a lot for a big man and and that's the thing like it is. There is a disconnect there. Chris and i'm not sure i totally understand it either. But they're thinking about it this way..

"When you stack this up bobby, you mentioned the four teams. I've the funny part about it was the team with the greatest expectations was the only one that didn't reach the conference finals. So again, every year that they've done so it fell. Over achievement, which is why you can draw this moral victory for some reason. This one just hurts more because of the path. Exactly. When you offer the proper context, you're like, wait a minute. So this other should be in the finals right now. Big about it before the shutdown is someone told you that the Milwaukee Bucks where I'm going to be there for this Alexa play and that would would top the? Sentence. Series. Much interest the heck stop them from getting to the NBA Finals, the Miami Heat and I'm telling you this much even going wasn't one hundred percent. It's still disappointment that there are unable to beat the team in the best series. Let's face it Jason tatum whether it's his ascension whether it's the fact that he's led this team is the number one guy or the fact that you know Jalen Brown has his ascended throughout this whole bubble I mean between those two guys alone then you add Kemba. This team is more than a talented enough to get the NBA Byles team like the Miami Heat I give them credit. They were the better team they outplayed the Celtics. You could make a strong case Eric spoke out coach Brad Stevens more your head and say. Something's should be in the final and. They they. They did whether it's not splitting those first two games or whether it was Neko's now game six feels like they show feels like those games those two instances that that was yeah. That has choke vibes for sure again. Much like Toronto it feels like There was a lot of self inflicted stuff. You know I feel like you know was making it harder on the Celtics they there I felt like Toronto brought the worst out of the Celtics because of their style of play there were. When we keep saying throughout the the last couple again, he was against the raptors though, right past team this is his toughest. It's going to raider and it felt it that felt like tougher series. It just felt like they just kept mucking here. I. Don't know what amazes me about Miami is that they went from being a five seed to a team that could. Take some games off take some last two games they were just kind of fluid playbay. Like they. They didn't play Great Ooh, they play zone. Big. You know like my goodness. Gracious, I think we're GONNA see what happens in the finals but I think you feel this way John to days going to surprise people again and all of a sudden we're gonNA look at them and say, wow, we didn't give Miami enough credit. How good they were like this team is a monster especially at the top and the way. They play together, pretty impressive like they started six. No. In these playoffs are seven. Oh, going through Indiana and Milwaukee two of the tougher teams in the east. Then they blow through Boston who if you look at it from their side it's like that's a tough match-up for us like they stormed through the east in a way that no one could have imagined yup. I'll be quick but I mean, I think in a series very disappointed. This series of Celtics could have won I think should have won those first two games execution down the stretch doomed them..

"Exact cordially not shoot the jumpshot. Oh, yeah, and and on the on the other side have Gordon Hayward shooting the jump shot from three-point line because Gordon Hayward has some place around fifty percent from the field and almost 40% from the three-point line. So I think you get a better sense of scoring with Jim and I think they were present more problems for Miami. What could you expect from Gordon or what fair to expect recording to come back in this series? Well, I think that they're going to try work flow obviously because you know going to say was entry but when you come up an ankle injury, you know you sometimes you baby it I love it. I hope he's able to push it back a bit more and I'm sure that the subjects waited and waited they you know, cuz they could have used them against the road, but but he wasn't able to give me anything Toronto. Okay you had now Palm. Four days of wrist and are you going to be able use them in the first game or can you get four more days of rest? So I think this others are going to be try to do either due diligence about using him but I think it becomes a bad. I think he should be I would expect you know counting the same Gordon Hayward a guy can shoot the ball from the outside run the floor maybe Thursday as well. But you know allows other Essentials course, you have to Garden. I mean no matter what you're doing or not. Gordon Hayward has to be guarded which spreads the court and off as far as Gordon goes. I think the big the big plus here is the playmaking abilities because you have to guard him so he can obviously find the open guy in the paint and took all of this you look at what's the high end of a Gordon Hayward injury. You never want to see anybody get injured but it did give Grant Williams symptom. Usually a lot of these guys off the Benjamin Moore run in the wage. Toronto series which I think helps helps the Celtics overall. Well, it gives them another opportunity other options to use if they don't have them and you always the thing you cannot do you cannot duplicate NBA game in practice. You can practice as far you want to but when you get in a regular game and a practice game those are two different things..

"The Boston Celtics live to see another day and another series of next to Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals. I'm Sierra Goodwill here with Jimmy Toscano Joshua Volk and Bobby Manning. I feel like I'm manifested this tonight in my Miami Heat colors. I guess it was kind of amazed right right back in just wrapped up game seven a huge win for the Celtics, but it's time to flip the script right away your initial impressions of this match up with the heat Bobby. We'll start with you Thursday. It's going to be hard. I don't think any of us have to disagree about that. This team is better than the Raptors. They have more Talent. They have more depth and they do a lot of the same things that the Raptors do defensively better, but fortunately for the Celtics there are always some more of a transition team than a half-court team offensively. So it's a good matchup for the Celtics defense to the biggest difference now bam. Adebayo you go from our club. All who did nothing in the series to maybe the best center in the NBA if he keeps progressing the way he is that's a steep steep difference and he's going to be hard contend with. Yeah, no question. But that does going to see by mile Washington say that I mean put it this way in the pick-and-roll set which I think is something that the Miami he can defend really. Well I think bam is a big difference compared to dwell and be in compared to what we saw with Marcus saw whether you're putting him out there on Highland or whether he's a you know on a switch he can he can guard very he's much more different as an upgrade than Marcus all for sure. That's a big thing that's in my name is favorite. But yeah, it's obvious point. I think the transition defense that we saw throughout the the series I think that goes a long way with them they like to get out and help the floor. And of course they have Shooters. I mean these guys get going it can be a really long night when Duncan Robinson gets going like if her guys who aren't like for casual NBA fans, if you're not hip to Duncan Robinson like check.
