"Spree where tens of billions of pounds and fuel inflation even for that's former Chancellor where she's seen speaking during that leadership debate on the BBC Liz trust, meanwhile, saying that sumac would drive the economy into recession and accused arrive at raising taxes to their highest level in 70 years, a post debate snap poll found that 47% of Tory voters thought that trust won the contest versus 38% for sonak. And Barclays will start to buy back as much as $17.6 billion of securities after an administrative blunder that sought accidentally sell more structured and exchange traded notes than it had registered with the U.S. regulator. The 6 week repurchase period which starts in the 1st of August should determine total losses from the era while those are our top stories. Let's turn out some of the other key things the markets are watching out for today, Bloomberg's Liang garands is back with that Leon, what have you, what have you picked out? It's all about earnings, isn't it for the next couple of days, so let's take a look at key things that we're going to be watching out for today, so at 8 30 a.m., that's about in an hour's time the European Union will hold an emergency meeting on ministers, but ministers are ready to starting to arrive at around about now, so we'll keep our eye out on that. And at 1 p.m. UK time we'll have Hungary's Central Bank rate decision. That's followed by some U.S. data this afternoon, including consumer confidence and new home sales and guess what little bit later on after the bow we've got some big tech earnings that alphabet and Microsoft will also get the IMF who will release its world economic outlook update later. And just something to know in case you are traveling as a day goes on, you might want to see the train as services could be hit by preparations for tomorrow's national strike. So network rail employees and those at 17 companies will be walking out so if you're planning on getting home a little bit later, just a check before you travel. Okay, Leon, thank you very much for that and actually just on that energy story you were mentioning is EU energy ministers are gathering in Brussels, the energy commissioner Simpson has been speaking on the way in to that meeting. He's saying that Gazprom's actions are politically motivated this after the Russian state energy company said that it would be reducing flows through the Nord stream pipeline to Germany to just 20% of capacity. Well, let's go back to the politics in the UK now, those two candidates to replace Boris Johnson as Conservative Party leader and prime minister facing off on their first TV debate last night. This trust and register not clashing over their economic plans, watching it for us while Bloomberg's EMEA economics and government reporter Lizzie Burton, Lizzie good morning. Thanks very much for being with us. Was this really then a substantive battle over economics? Well, they have to simplify their arguments for mass appeal of course, but there is a fundamental difference between the two candidates. They both want to cut taxes, but they want to do it on different time frames. This trust says doing that from day one will drive growth. Rishi sunak says it will drive inflation, our economist says it will drive both. Interestingly, Rishi sunak excited Patrick minford, the brexiter economist, who of course Liz truss, herself has cited and mitford says that her tax cuts will be so inflationary that they'll drive interest rates up to 7%. Liz trust says that scaremongering akin to project fear as we had in the run up to the Brexit referendum. But the other simplistic way of seeing the debate Steven is, Rishi sunak's being characterized as the continuity candidate, which doesn't usually help anyone in an election or a referendum, which is ironic because trust is the one who has not yet resigned from Boris Johnson's cabinet. She's still the foreign secretary, and yet Rishi sunak is being portrayed as the traitor for being one of the first resignations to trigger the mass exodus from government that led to Boris Johnson's downfall and that is not going down well with the membership. What other issues then featured prominently lots about the economy, but there were those space for other talk as well. Yeah, well ultimately, the two candidates are vying for the votes of a very small minority of the population, the Conservative Party membership which is estimated to be about a 170,000 people. And the reason I start by saying that is because these are who they're pitching to and the policies that they're pitching now are likely to be very different to what they finally do as prime minister as they say their campaigning in poetry governing in prose more likely. So it's who could be the toughest on China, trust says that she'll crack down on TikTok. They also said that they want leveling up to continue one of Boris Johnson's policies because of course their riding his mandate to the next election and they agreed that the UK shouldn't be intervening militarily in Ukraine, given it isn't a NATO country. Was there then a clear winner? Well, long pause. Well, it got personal again. They were trading barbs on what kind of schools they went to, what kind of clothes they went to. So I think one of the clear losers of this could be the Conservative Party because of all the infighting, the blue on blue fighting that was going on last night. In the aftermath of the debate, someone in trust's camp was briefing that his mansplaining was a gift to labor. But worryingly for sunak, he's polling better among labor voters than conservative. So it may be that Liz trust gets it over the line and becomes the next prime minister while Rishi sunak could have been the one who would have stood more of a chance at beating Keir Starmer at general election. Yeah, interesting. Thank you very much, Lizzie bergner. Economics and government correspondent for taking us through all of that of course that's not the only debate that's going to be more debate from the conservative leadership candidates coming up as well as a plenty more chances for them to tease out there. Ideas. Well, coming up next here on Bloomberg daybreak, Europe, ten years after Mario Draghi's, whatever it takes speech, we speak to the former ECB governing cancer member Patrick hone about

"Defies cabinet, demands that he quit the FT saint Johnson rocks by a cabinet revolt with The Guardian says that the desperate deluded p.m. clings to power Bloomberg's young guardians has been looking through all of these stories for us. It seems according to the papers today delivering a Boris exit. It's going to take some time Leanne. Yeah, nice play on words there, isn't it if metro says get exit done? Well, this is all very interesting, isn't it? And The Guardian reports on. I think we're going to have to give you a microphone first of all. Can anybody hear me now? Good morning to you and Steven, thank you so much for introducing that. Yes, many of the front pages today dominated by what was going on yesterday almost unprecedented, wasn't it? We saw that absolute slew of resignations yesterday more than 40 MPs have now gone. And resigning from Boris Johnson's cabinet bit, the metro says get exit done and The Guardian does report on Sajid javid speech in parliament enough is enough. And the times time's up, Douglas Ross tells Boris Johnson the leader of the Scottish Tories has told the prime minister that he must resign. Remember, he put a confidence vote in and then retracted it, so Douglas Ross now telling the prime minister to leave. Okay, so away from the politics, airlines and the summer of travel chaos actually more flight cancellations to think about. Oh, Caroline, this is something that has been concerning all of us, isn't it? Travel misery just doesn't seem to be going away the independence says flybe cuts hundreds of summer flights, and that's blaming aircraft delays. So just 12 weeks after flybe, which is the low cost airline, which does fly to Eastern Europe a lot, resumed operations, but now the airline has announced hundreds of fight cancellations from the 28th of July to the 29th of October and the company is following British Airways and EasyJet in drastically scaling back a summer operations. And our very own Sid Philip, who is our Biennale here, has been writing about BA and BA is scrapping another 10,300 flights through the summer season. Now this really comes as it grapples with a staffing crisis. And that has unleashed chaotic scenes across Europe's aviation sector. We have seen that haven't we those pictures are bags piled up, people sleeping at the airport, and with the latest round of cancellations which follows others earlier this week, the unit of IAG will have to scrap about 13% of its schedule from April through to October. But one shining light is short haul routes are only expected to be affected. So if you're traveling long or hall. It's okay. Yeah, well not really, isn't it? Because it's still chaos. And doesn't it sort of fill you with a bit of anxiety when you want to get away and you want to travel? I remember I traveled recently to Spain and I felt like I was checking that flight every single day because people are feeling nervous. Okay, well that was me to watch. I think as we go into that part of the summer season, Leigh Anne garin to the newspaper is there. Thank you very much for that. This is Bloomberg. "Is Bloomberg daybreak Europe. As we look back on the first half of 2022, it's really hard to overstate just how extraordinary global macro markets have been. Why would we be surprised that growth will slip below 2%? But it won't pivot down into negative territory. Millions of families are looking forward to getting away on holiday, perhaps the first one they've had since the pandemic So I'm an independent Ukraine is going to be around a lot longer than president Putin is on the scene. Bloomberg daybreak, Europe, on Bloomberg radio. It's 6 30 a.m. in London good morning on Stephen Carroll. And I'm Caroline Hepburn. Welcome to Bloomberg daybreak, Europe live from London. And now China's COVID zero strategy being tested again. We've seen a jump in infections in Shanghai. You've got all of the Asian markets in the red right now, it seems MSCI ish Pacific index is down by 1%. Stock futures for Europe there are actually up by one and a half percent, although S&P 500 and NASDAQ futures are down. The pound remains under enormous pressure because of the political turmoil in part we're down two tenths of 1% one 1924 for cable, but it's also due to the strong dollar, which is a stronger tenth of 1% on the Bloomberg dollar spot index this morning. US Treasury yields are 2.82% up by a basis point and oil dip below a $100 a barrel recession risk concerns and we remain there actually WTI crude features now at $99 80. That is open burger, radio business flash will look at the market numbers. Let's move on to our top stories, Boris Johnson is expected to spend the day fighting for his political life after losing both his Chancellor Rishi sunak and the health secretary Sajid javid yesterday. They resigned just as the prime minister was apologizing for the way he handled allegations of inappropriate behavior by the MP Chris pinscher. After days of denial, Johnson admitted that he knew about previous claims of misconduct surrounding pincher, but forgot. Someone fighting in the p.m.'s corner is Brexit opportunities minister Jacob riis Mark, he thinks it's unsurprising that the prime minister forgot about an investigation that happened in 2019. If the prime minister is hearing endless things about all sorts of public business, you can not possibly be expected to remember every single last detail. And that this was settled with an apology and that was Jacob riis mog labor's Jess Phillips, meanwhile, says she expects more resignations to follow. There's some good people in Boris Johnson's cabinet. You stay and you you're basically saying that Boris Johnson is bigger than the Conservative Party bigger than the country. And you dip your hands in his blood. That is labor is Jess Phillips, the prime minister swiftly appointed nadim zahawi as this new Chancellor and Steve Barkley as health secretary while Michel donlan will take over as education secretary. Meanwhile, Britain's new Chancellor is inheriting an economy on the ropes and the dean zahawi's rise to Chancellor has been swift, he only became a minister for the first time in 2018 after winning praise as vaccines minister during the pandemic he became education secretary in September. He is a self made millionaire, so how he takes over at number 11 at a time when the UK economy is seeing the fastest inflation in 40 years. On top of the political chaos, the Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey has warned the economic picture is drastically worsening. The Central Bank lifted a buffer of reserves that banks must meet to 2%. The level that it was at before the pandemic as it projects greater economic shocks in the future. Governor Bailey sees the commodity markets as a key risk. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine there have been sharp spikes in the prices of gas and other commodities, looking forward, the uncertainty surrounding the Russian invasion of Ukraine means that there remains significant risks of further disruption in commodity markets. The recent disruption has highlighted how vulnerabilities within commodity markets and interconnections with the wider financial system could amplify shocks to the real economy. Bank of England governor Andrew Bailey speaking after the Central Bank published their financial stability review yesterday, the UK already faces the prospect of being one of the worst performing economies in the G 20 next year, second only to Russia. And now in top corporate news, the German government is rushing through legislation to allow it to rescue struggling energy companies, talk to continuing over a bailout for the gas giant uniper which is heavily dependent on Russian supplies. It's said to need as much as €9 billion. That is around twice its market value. The German economy minister Robert harbeck says that the government is sharpening its tools to maintain energy supplies this winter, the bill includes a mechanism to allow companies to pass on part of the surging cost of gas to consumers. And the United States are said to be pushing the Netherlands to ban chipmaker ASML from selling essential equipment to China. It's an expansion of Washington's campaign to curb China's rise and chip production. The proposed restriction would widen when an existing moratorium on the sale of advanced shipmate and gear to China, the Dutch firm has a leading maker of equipment for producing chips. Okay, those are some of our top stories. Let's get back though to the political upheaval here in the UK. We're joined by Ben page who is the chief executive of the polling company ipsos Bern good morning, thanks for being with us. Can Boris Johnson survive this? Well, he will bluster it out, but I think as we know all political careers end in failure and this one is pretty close to the end now, I think. I mean, we'll see. But it's just one thing after the other. And I think the most striking thing in my data is that the proportion of people in Britain who think the Conservative Party SLA and Boris Johnson is fixed to govern has fallen pretty much to the lowest level in decades. It's halved from around four out of ten to 21%. The only thing in some ways helping them is that the Labor Party led by Keir Starmer isn't doing massively better. It's got 33% that say it's fit together and that is actually not dissimilar to under Jeremy Corbyn or Ed Miliband. Has with this reshuffle has the prime minister done enough to be able to try and secure his at least short term future. But I think he's got to

At IBKR dot com slash a compare straight by the Brian and that what looks like absolutely a tremendous trading day in prospect after the one we just had. It might be a little more positive than we think from looking at the red numbers in equity futures contracts because the rally on Wall Street was quite visible there in quite aggressive in the last hour or two of trading and some of that's not reflected in the contract numbers that we see, but we'll take a closer look, hanging index futures are down, for instance, a third of 1%. Nikkei future is at 26,280. And so that's really a couple hundred points under the cash close yesterday. We also have Australian futures down one full percentage point. China futures, though, edging a little bit higher. Very volatile day, huge comeback on Wall Street, traders looking at sort of recession trades there. We had treasuries up, yields down the two year and the ten year yield is inverted. The ten year yield at 2.80%, the two year at two 81. Big action in commodities, oil, copper, all down sharply, oil was down more than 8% recovering a little bit at the moment right now, WTI at $100 73 cents up about one and a quarter percent. We talked about recession fears, the Atlanta fed's GDP now sees contraction of 2.1% in the second quarter, quarter on quarter. And that's after contracting 1.6% in the first quarter so that matches a technical definition of a recession. And if you look at the way bond investors are playing that, they're betting on a complete fed policy turnaround in the coming year, with rate reductions actually coming by the middle of next year. The dollar sharply higher, the Euro tanking, the Euro was down almost 2%. The Bloomberg dollar spot index was up about 1% to all the yen here, one 35, 71. Rashad to you. Absolutely miss still talking about the green bag here. And it does a strongest level. And in fact, we've got the dollar at its highest level since 2002. And this also gives us background of recession fears, the odds of a recession in the U.S. now, 38%. That's according to the latest forecast from Bloomberg economics. And Sarah House of Wells Fargo banks said that those odds are looking as though they could widen. Overall, we're looking at an economy losing momentum faster than what we anticipated. So right now we have a recession call for beginning the first half of next year. But I think if anything, the data shows that that timing looks like it, it could be even sooner. The specter of a recession has driven traders to pare back fed interest rate hike expectations and many not forecasting a complete policy turnaround by the fed within the coming year. U.S. officials are pushing Dutch ship equipment manufacturer ASML to restrict selling in China. The band would essentially curb China's plans to become a world leader in chip production. The issue arose when U.S. deputy commerce secretary Dan graves visited the Netherlands in late May according to sources. The Dutch government has yet to agree to any additional restrictions on the company's exports to Chinese chip makers. ASML is American depository receipts in the end fell 4.6%. We had an earlier drop of 8.3%, which was the biggest fall since March of 2020. All right, it's time now for world news. To Boris Johnson's top cabinet officials have resigned, the government putting his tenure as prime minister now into grave question at Baxter is in San Francisco. Yeah, exactly right. "In national news with fancy lines. Thanks, Paul, the 21 year old person of interest in yesterday's highland park parade shooting, pre planned the attack for several weeks. That's the word from Lake county, deputy chief Chris cavelli, who says the suspect Bobby cremo also donned a disguise. During the attack, primo was dressed in woman's clothing and investigators do believe he did this to conceal his facial tattoos and his identity and help him during the escape with the other people who were fleeing the chaos. Deputy chief Chris cavelli says it also appears the gun used in the attack was bought legally. The death toll has risen to 7, dozens of others were wounded by the shooter, who was firing from the top of a downtown building. "Get world in national news. Nancy lynch answered out. Thanks, Paul, the suspected July 4th parade shooter in Illinois apparently used a legally purchased rifle and dressed as a woman to escape police. Today, investigators offered those new details about the incident that has now claimed 7 lives with officials saying yet another victim has died from their injuries. Like county deputy chief Chris covelli. He brought a high powered rifle to this parade. He accessed the roof of a business via a fire escape ladder and began opening fire. Deputy chief cavelli says the suspect was eventually apprehended in his mother's car. A Georgia grand jury is subpoenaing subpoenaing Rudy Giuliani to investigate potential criminal interference in the 2020 election. The Atlanta journal constitution reports Fulton county is also summoning other members of former president Trump's legal team along with South Carolina senator. Lindsey Graham. Two of the most senior members of Boris Johnson's cabinet have quit in quick succession, a dramatic move that puts the UK prime minister indeed peril after a series of scandals. Bloomberg's ros mathison says the Chancellor of the exchequer and the health sector secretary of both left. You've got two of the biggest names in the cabinet stepping down in quick succession citing his leadership citing his handling of the economy amongst multiple other criticisms. The question is, does this set off a domino effect? And now what we're seeing is a bunch of other ministers coming out and saying they intend to stay on and support the prime minister. "The 1980s, and this was a small club of rich investors, you wouldn't, you know, you wouldn't obviously want to see a downturn in the industry because that always has knock on effects. But the knock on effect in that scenario would be relatively modest. It seems to me. Today we're talking about a completely different situation where private equity owns large swaths of the U.S. economy, including healthcare and hospital, including hospitals, housing, media, local businesses, et cetera and so there's going to be some impact if private equity goes into a winner. The question is what is the impact and we don't know David because we just don't have information, you know, private equity, private companies in general are not held to the same disclosure requirements as public companies. Again, that might have made sense in an era when these were small companies in a small industry, et cetera. But now we're talking about it on a look through basis. In other words, not just the not just the owners of the private equity directly, but all the pensions and endowments, et cetera, you're talking about, you know, a huge number of people with exposure. And so it seems to me we need to know more. It's a really terrific column, as I said. I really recommend it to everyone. That's New York Caesar. He is an opinion columnist for Bloomberg. You can read more on this and other stories from Bloomberg opinion at Bloomberg dot com slash opinion and on the terminal by typing in OPI and go. And now we want to bring you more on that really big story that is broken over in the United Kingdom with the resignation of two key members of Boris Johnson's cabinet and we welcome now a Bloomberg senior executive editor she is ra's Matheson Ross. Thank you so much for jumping on this. We've just picked up this news. It is enormous, but you have to explain to us exactly the significance potentially for Boris Johnson's government. Well, that's right. We just had some very big news in quick succession. In fact, rises the prime minister was speaking. He was addressing and saying that he made a mistake in supporting a gentleman who was become the chief of deputy chief whip, knowing his background and brought as he was speaking, we got the news that two very big names in his government are quitting and that's the health secretary, as Sajid javid, who was of course previously in the treasury. And now, of course, the Chancellor of the exchequer Vichy Senate. That's two big supporters of Boris Johnson, two big members of his cabinet going within minutes of each other tweeting that they feel that they've lost confidence in Boris Johnson as a leader. So I think a number of things, including his handling of the economy because of course there's widespread satisfaction at the moment in the UK at the state of the economy. So this is finding a litany of issues and at the point where you wonder who's next because if these two gentlemen have now resigned, we could see a snowball effect in his cabinet coming and that really is the point where it's going to be very difficult for Boris Johnson to stay in power. And it strikes me rising. You know there's much better than I ever will. These major figures in his cabinet have left, but also the reason for doing it, I'm looking right now at a tweet from Rishi sunak. The now former Chancellor of the checkers saying, the public rightly expect government to be conducted properly competently and seriously, I recognize this may be my last ministry of job, but I believe these standards are worth fighting for, and that is why we're designing. This is not to go spend more time with their family. Well, that's right. Possibly directly say that they would be challenging Boris Johnson for the leadership. Or contesting the leadership and saying that either way he can't see them into the collection of courses follows months and months of scandals that are really solved victorious around the behavior of Boris Johnson and other senior figures during the COVID lockdowns are breaking COVID lockdown rules a number of other scandals around the behavior of parliamentarians. In general, in just a sense that people in the UK have set up with the idea that it's one rule for politicians and one for the members of the public. Certainly with the resignation though that you're citing that we've seen on Twitter from javi. That sort of firing was starting down potentially on him saying, well, he would be interested in the leadership

"Checking in your boil markets then on the back of a sell off a significant sell off states so I particularly within the tech sector amid a flurry of commentary from fed officials Leo brainard who's been nominated for the vice chair position is known dove stating that she sees march as a potential lift off for hikes and that her base case sees three this year Just adding to a shift in terms of the monetary policy stance of the Federal Reserve the implications then for investors selling off technology amid concerns of higher yields In terms of the futures here in Europe you're pointing to the downside by about 9 tenths of a percent We'll see how the UK opens at 8 a.m. given what we're seeing in terms of the commodity space a little bit of pressure on copper and iron ore at this morning Across the ocean space the MSCI Asia Pacific lower by 8 tenths of a percent The HSI in Hong Kong lower by 6 tenths and the tech sector the HS tech index lower by more than 1% of the tech sell off filtering across from Wall Street to the Hong Kong and Chinese space as well Futures in the U.S. pointing to gains of two tenths of a percent So repairing maybe some of the losses at the edges at least that we saw yesterday your currency complex is looking like this with Bloomberg dollar index is softer by two tenths of a percent Euro dollar gaining equivalent amount two tenths of a percent currently trading at one 14 So strength for the single currency the pound is at one 37 and your U.S. ten year yield up two basis points at one 72 56 for the benchmark U.S. ten year yield Brent is at $84 a barrel gaining two tenths of a percent but across much of the rest of the commodity space as I said copper and iron ore lower Iron ore off by two and a half percent crypto You're looking at Bitcoin trading at $43,000 up three tenths of a percent Let's get up to speed then with some of the other top stories that's are worth focusing on this morning and we have an update in terms of what is happening at the Federal Reserve officials are talking tightening as I discuss vice chair nominee Leo brainard said the fed could raise rates as early as March joining others signaling the potential for prompt action Charles Evans says three or four hikes will be needed this year as he also flagged inflation as a priority We need to get inflation back down in the ballpark of our 2% objective I think it's probably going to be at the end of this year It's going to be elevated I don't think it's going to be 3% at the end of this year And I think it's more likely to be two and a half as measured by the personal consumption expenditure Christopher Wallace says three hikes this year is a good baseline but there may be fewer or as many as 5 Let's switch focus to the UK then on the virus front England is set to abandon COVID passes this month the times reports the health secretary standard javid has decided that proof of vaccination or a negative test is no longer needed to enter large events as the omicron wave subsides in the country Just over a 109,000 people tested positive yesterday with infections down almost 24% in the last 7 days And meta platform is being sued for 2.3 billion pounds over claims that Facebook exploited its users personal data and abused its dominant market position in the UK The case to be filed on behalf of 44 million British Facebook users will lay out how the social network only gave access to its platform in exchange for user data that generated billions in revenue It comes as metaphase a number of antitrust cases in the U.S. and here in the UK Okay let's get to one of our top political interviews now What is next for Boris Johnson cabinet ministers have rallied around the prime minister after he faced calls to resign from his own party over his attendance at a lockdown gathering in Downing Street a party that he didn't realize was a party We are now waiting for the outcome of an independent probe into the pandemic parties by civil servants who gray but his labor doing enough to capitalize on this moment of jeopardy for the prime minister On Bloomberg's Westminster you and pot spoke to Graham stringer labor MP for blackley and Braun he started by asking do you think Johnson will resign I don't think he will last very long is my answer to that I don't think he will resign immediately Boris Johnson is prime minister Because he can persuade people to vote conservative but no other conservatively just managed to do in recent times So he's one seeds that have been labor for generations It looks to me as though he's lost that ability to get support from previously the voters I think the test for him will come or a local elections on the first day In May is conservative candidates to badly in that I think there will be sufficient conservatives you've got to go and there will be folks have confidence which he will lose And yet despite that you got poll taken after the revelations but before the apology which found that 6 in ten people won Johnson to go looking at the voting tension numbers labors on just 38% barely moved since the last poll It still feels like we're a long way from the days of Tony Blair's opposition leader when leight was polling 45 or 50% doesn't it But I know there's been taken showed labor ten points ahead which is out where you were expecting our position priority to be in midterm It's not as good as it should be in some ways given waters up and I think it's still on the layers lead it has created the necessary conditions in order that they may win the next general election But he's not done sufficient to ensure that outcome is likely I think he has to talk to a number of issues that so far he's not addressed in the kind of detail and effectiveness but will sure opinion probably have been includes immigration has includes the future of taxation and the huge taxation burden is going to be if we as we carry on heading into net zero and less substantially just as importantly some of the language around the woke issues that traditional labor voters tend not to like So you celebrate the position it's not as good as it should be Do you think that Keir Starmer is too much of a metropolitan liberal to use a phrase I wouldn't put it in those terms and he was extraordinarily good in House of Commons chamber As he got both the mood right as well as a horrendous analysis of what Johnson was saying and what he was doing so he was very good.

"And worse since two thousand and three and the reason i site is white. I can see thousand and four. New yourself might remember this. I was involved in painful candlelit vigil a small town. We'll get into this massive incinerator heathrow apple and i'm standing with some wonderful people from the respect paul saying the reward coalition and we were and we also went on this march where we were all photographed now two thousand hole that night and we chained up those off. We changed ourselves in children with type of chains the respondents from The place evening way back in two thousand and four and the police themselves can believe it was the same three police wagons and thirty six offices to down. Hold that night. And i think it was by then. I think it's something that's been getting worse and worse and worse since the war in iraq. Yes i do and that's a really important michelle. I'm blood that you made it. You probably were also infiltrated back. In two thousand and four by the special groups or police that were infiltrating such dangerous people as women protesting about the building of an incinerator. Suddenly they were infiltrating all kinds of entirely non-violent non-threatening protest movements something which is still not fully accounted for in the courts but it's very important indeed that protests are allowed and the protests should be peaceful protests that becomes a riot like the one in bristol will go up like a rocket sure but it will come down like burn stick of no use to anyone and all that will be achieved by a riot is to strengthen the securocrats bureaucracies. I mean look at these. People smashing in police stations setting fire to police vehicles. No one in the country will countenance that no one will support that and so if the police now come back and demand more powers to deal with this kind of riot the vast majority of people in the country will support them sort. if about michelle. Thanks for the call. Anthony is in bristol. But he's not calling about that. Go ahead little. Hi george reedy babe speech here. It's the time cool. And he'll or feel so strongly about iraq or something. Personally i've never really come to terms with even though it's eighteen years since that happened. But i really wanted to talk to you georgia the role of consecutive storm in formulating the legal advice for tony blair to justify his policies. You go to war against iraq in two thousand and three. Because as i understand it secured stone was the attorney general at the time who actually A legal advice. So got. Tony blair could justifies decision and then i believe strengthened as on tony blair's request so that would look more politically convenience. You would probably know more about that than i would. George i do. I do and therefore it's my duty to tell you that is not true. Cure mark was a nobody back in two thousand and three. He wasn't in parliament still less in the government. He's guilty of many crimes and many sins but those are not amongst them. But you're right. Anthony the labor law officers did change of their legal advice on the demand of the client. The client being tony blair the prime minister. And what is the point of a senior law officer if in fact all the are is a rubber stamp for the political master this and its counterpart in edinburgh over the alex. Salmond affair is a major faultline which is opening up in our constitution the rule of law officers and their place in cabinets like the boris johnson cabinet now and the nicholas sturgeon at least until tomorrow in edinburgh. This is a major issue of the british. Constitutional wizards are going to have to address. Pretty damn quickly. now. Thanks for about anthony in stole. Your town are atrocious scenes. Pleased vehicles are being attacked wrought there. There's another allah for it. Got dark. I don't know if there's police in that van but that's happening. These things are happening right now in bristol thousands of now joined in and you can see that it started off pretty hairy and has gotten far wos please stations. "The dollar is is flak religion. Well not even did even sell the dollar shock. Yes you're right any color. The color of their god is currency. We just don't know which currency it will be tomorrow eve. Thank you very much indeed Splendid story this whole one. This game stop story. I must say i'm going to look for Into it Derek says little has been mentioned these days about the hall of fame and wall of shame to the point. I can't actually recall the fool list of who's in both so i was wondering if you'd consider adding jimmy reed and larry king to the hall of fame and adding boris johnson's cabinet to the hall of shame for continually and systematically selling off the nhs during the pandemic while simultaneously telling the nation that we need to save. The chest is not totally hypocrisy. If that's not dora hypocrisy than i don't understand its meaning. We just don't have time to be honest to do the hall of fame on the wall of shame. Alot larry king might have to be. The exception will look at that for next week. Thanks for that. Rusty is in north hampton. Go ahead russ the. I george nice to hear from you. Go ahead and i just moved lately so during the lockdown as well. So i'm kinda safe. Yeah okay good. I see they polio. That i don't know if you saw it but anyway it was about. So how do you feel about Viruses performance under the pandemic. And i think i saw it was sixty three percents. That would fall him. I'm thirty seven percent. Were against him. Like i just want to do whether they finding these people. He still miles ahead of labour in the opinion polls despite hundred and six thousand dead yeah clearly no opposition at the next election right. That's gotta be the main factor. The if you look at the conservative government and you look across a potential replacement keith star angela rainer and so on i mean talk about tweedle dee and tweedle dum so people just cling to nurse for fear of something worse yes early performances is poor by any standards Right we're going to go now to biden And i think it's laughable that anybody thinks that You know that he's gonna be all right and all the comedy there's gonna be all right mean. I'm surprised since that. They introduced all the obama law in that that they didn't actually push hillary as well. I mean you know that means. She's too big. She's threatening to kill it right She would right now. We were talking about the silas. Now that i understand right that there is to all what was a few spike proteins which are from the virus so it suggesting to me that perhaps it was engineered. I don't wanna talk conspiracy theories. But i understand right that there's a few What they call a federal food six which would use attacks samantha zone. Then you go Remdesivir then you got the Covert boxing which is in the spider. Bento boxes misses a lot of people. Forget to say the word experimental experimental In the beginning on the certainly yes. This has been a bit of a shop okay. I don't think so not so sure though. Well i know the ivermectine actually stops you from contracting. I also stretch stops the spread all the as well. Well i know nothing of which you speak. But i want to make this abundantly clear that anti vauxhall's are not welcome here because there are positive danger to the health of the population people who claim that someone engineered the corona virus will have to come up with evidence as to who engineered it. And why because what they're seeing effect is someone committed a crime that killed millions of people around the world. And that's no small accusation. Richard is in london about the eu. Let's hear from him. Go ahead chart. Yeah hello die joke our youth. Well i'm good. I'm enjoying it. Go ahead yeah basically. It's just about the last one hundred years of history in europe. And i'd be all you sell and I just take by wave moving forward and things like that. We govern about all the wrong way because of the history and the history that is paying the about days so they just always. How does the the are you excel. Expects forward when america can itself. Just say like oh bob and pigs so messed up plans to buy you saw and he so relates to today and you know it. Nations seems to be ad. They think they know nobody could really talk about your if they should join great reset or the fourth australian revolution. So i mean it just seems like one big mess debate. You saw watch really la the i. I'm reading nine days. Yalta a very fine book about the conference to place in yalta with stalin roosevelt and churchill. And how the reordered the world and how quickly it turned to cold war after it called wars better than hot water obviously but it still worse than genuine peace and harmony but the which always dressed up in the gar- ball harmony was never really hub harmonious intended to be the for me has been from the beginning remains and will always be a franco. German ramp will by the french and german economies benefit more than everyone else exploit in the case of new members the labor cheap labor of everybody else unbend the whole project to their own mutual national interest and therefore i think hits doomed the eu. The united nations isn't isn't worth the paper it's written on last. What do you richard. Yeah just just what they say. 'cause i always i always tell people i could personally of this that that was to read this down for about planned site whenever they i mean they were really thinking about the things where they thinking about their own interest. And that's what quite well for them. Rich thanks for the call now. Here's an interesting dichotomy. The poll on twitter reads thus lapenne seventy four percent up to monochrome sixteen percent down. One mellon sean. Ten percent down one but the telegram poll is different. Here's the results on the telegram..

Boris Johnson, Jeremy Corbyn And Dominic Grieve discussed on Coffee House Shots

"I'm joined by cables and James for safe while James. We're expecting a number of resignations this week. We've already on from Sarah Duncan which we will talk about shortly but yesterday Philip Hammond went on the mall showing confirmed that he was going to resign after Theresa May's final Prime Minister's questions he's jumping before he's pushed isn't he in the whiteboard in Boris Johnson's campaign and during the cabinet is it oh no we had Hammond down for John Throw now. He said he won't serve raises. A more serious points about how he has behaved. I mean there's a very difficult question to answer which is which is he was the chancellor when trees I said no deal is better than a bad deal. He was the chance to win all school. Fifty one votes injuries may kept saying that so it does raise a question about whether he was ever actually committed to the policy of a day of government element of which he was a member where he actually meant it. I also think he's behaving in a deeply irresponsible manner because it is quite clear that whatever you think of it Theresa May's with Griffin is not going to Paul sounds comments so you need to ease off rob some kind of concessional compromise to get this thing through and by what he's doing and the interviews he's giving in the European press on his shenanigans in parliament he is basically saying to you. You do is compromise or for any concession because parliament's elements can stop no deal but as rebel dominic grieve says the only way we see Sir stopping ideal is to bring down and it is not clear yet for they have the numbers so he is paradox the actually making no deal more likely I mean the question you need to think about which is which do you think is worse for the British economy in the short even in the short to medium-term. No deal oracle been government. I think it's a fairly strong case that it is a Corbin government. He's also making that more likely I e P regrettable about the way that moment is paving the moment and it is kind of hard not to think that he is goes into his head that he wants to go down in history for something and and he also is driven. I think bar a personal dislike of Boris Johnson I mean they all they are about as different as characters. Come be and I think there is kind of I think you see it's going to be this is undoubtedly going to be a problem for. I want someone Jeez people for them. How does more technocratic mind almost find offensive and so they feel bound by the normal ties of Lords obligation that people would find to a former cabinet according to become Prime Minister K._t.? Philip Hammond is joining the Google could score. Does it become nine on the back benches of <hes> Torian Dominic grieve like David Goal obviously who are very worried about the consequences of no deal exit. Do you think sees himself as being the ringleader of this new group and if not who else I think he seasons I was having a pivotal role play and certainly to people who are involved. Perhaps on various this what's up groups for being proactive and interesting have those speculation but world theresa may might play but that is not seen as a row where you have some really leading from the front at all you might be able to bring them in a backward way whereas I I think when it comes to Philip Hammond he is someone who's very happy to go and bat for it and you see that has multiple media appearances. I think when you look the with squad and is going to be a wide ranging faction in the sense that perhaps you have ron thirty figures who are sympathetic to the coors the coups being to prevent a no deal brexit but they will have different points of high father willing to go so you mentioned Dominic Grieve Dominic Grieve is in a very small number of the squad in the sense he is willing to vote down the government or at least he has said he is in a will to stop. No deal brexit happened has suggested he might be willing to do that. He hasn't said Faucheux but he could laugh will be in the more hardline element say the bulk of the awkward squad so whether <unk> actually property matters most in the day to day running of Boris Johnson's government before you get to what we think he might be that ultimate showdown but you might have a confidence vote is what can they team up on. Now figures like David Gook I think he uh of azan we expect for example Greg Clark. We don't expect him to resign anticipation but will likely not be in the Boris Johnson Cabinet and fluker join this great when it comes to confidence as its deputy FAA supply SA- cutting off supply seems to be a step too far when it comes to finances so the things that they can team up on would be when you look to what Ambrose described as an activist speaker Joe Becker and he saw that last week with their Perot Gang Amendment Dominic grieve came up with that is. Something people feel much more comfortable going for because it feels like a less drastic mechanism so I think that's where this team can come together and when you look within that you also have a Muharan reports you could as as soon as Boris Johnson is appointed as prime minister barring a big shock for you could have Torri M._p.'s defect to the Liberal Democrats. Now that's different element here. Those people here very pro second referendum the anti no deal shoe but it it goes well beyond and I would say the bulk of the Gook squad have voted for Brexit deal many times free times so there is one way for Boris Johnson to almost end his his problem there which is if he can get change if he can get a due to Vatan this group that the not so hard line in their ears majority that they're not gonNA vote for anything. Boris Johnson comes up with but they do need it to be a deal. I've been the Golden Association from those cases right and then which is if you are working. WE'VE DOMINIC GRIEVE STEVE DOMINATE GREAVES AIM is not to prevent no deal is to have a second referendum into how the U._K.. Remain in the European Union and I mean this is actually a real problem for some members of this group which is essentially when when you choose your political allies here it becomes your message risk getting lost. It risks looking what you're joining move dominant grieve in his attempt to stay in the E._U.. Raleigh than trying to prevent is leaving without a deal and that is going to be a major kind of questionable how his group coheres when varies of stress intention put on that will be put on it when a deal okay for example if a deal does come back do the same gamers and then just ingredients as well still vote against the deal because they want a second referendum and remain all always have as spent so arguing that no deal would would be catastrophic that they would feel obliged to vote for a deal. I mean I think this is their difficulties and contradictions within this group Katie. Tell us about Sir Allen Dunkin's resignation so remiss as of this morning the minister was going to resign today expecting the bulk as for Hamilton the anti nausea to as opposed to have the minimum amount of time between the new prime minister taking over and the being a vacancy in your department. Perhaps a vacancy theresa may try and fill it. It seems now we're getting to the shorter time may just be the vacant so Annan Dunkin decided not wait until Wednesday's. He has gone on Monday morning now. I think this is attracted. Criticism for a number of reasons fest off some have suggested. The Alan Duncan hasn't always been the principal character when it comes to the cools attached himself to sue people point to the referendum when he was in talks about joining the board and then in the end decided apparently because he cannot get a certain position by his name to go for remain and that's what people think he's insincere. I think there is a more practical note here which is it may not be specific brief but clearly what's happening right now. In Iran the crisis in the factories May as haven't have Cobra meetings to to be a Foreign Office minister. Dan Ready have one. He was suspended in field -Unding who's quite busy doing the leadership contest exactly the Foreign Secretary Hughes O._T.. Trying to walk away he is getting Steve if he doesn't have his upset tomorrow. It doesn't really paint this picture of government that is taking a situation completely serious. They and I think it was just absence. Idea which is very easy right now. I tried to haunt you paint the Tory party as warring factions when if you want to be the party of you would think that there is a sense that you need to look at your on top of this I thought it was quite interesting as we've seen Greg Hands Jeremy Hunt supporter today take to social media and and say that he does not support preemptive ramp to resignations and he thinks does play into the hands of Jeremy Kuban so I think it's just Boris Johnson supporters who questioning some of the time yeah we've had some comments from people like Hugh Merryman who's Philip Hammons P. P. S. on Westminster unstrap last night saying that the government basically dropped the ball on the Iran Crisis James. Is it the case that this is about how the government relates to trump will try not to relate to trump in closely. I read this government moment was as it so often has been on the trump. Administration was caught between two stools which is once the U._K.. Via Gibraltar had impounded that Iranian tanker it was point clear for there was going to be Iranian retaliatory action of some sort when you consider the soy's of the Royal Navy at the moment is quickly if British flag shipping wants to be protected against retaliation that was going to need to be active cooperation with the U._S. and what appears to have been the case is that there was a hesitancy about going down that route even though the Americans were suggesting it because they didn't want to look like they were signing up to the full gamut of U._S.. Close John Roberts obviously against the Iran nuclear deal which the U._K.. is in favor of home not having that this is a big strategic confusion on the government's behalf which is once you take a decision to impound that tanker then you had to act to protect your own shipping in the most comprehensive way possible and the seizure of his ship on Friday shows that the Royal Navy simply doesn't clearly is not adequate soy's to do that right now and F. was going to need assistance from the U._S.. Which is the largest navy in the world and so I've been there is there is a question here of of how this was handled and I think if it wasn't for the fact that was storage contest ongoing? This will be a big story. Also the other issue is the Jeremy Corbyn is not exactly Joe. Jeremy Corbyn is taking predictable approach which is everyone should deescalate. What why are we upset? Iranians in the first place approach of his question here I mean there is there is a I mean the government is very vulnerable. Were more focused right on time. which is you made the decision to impound the ship because he believed it was going to Syria and breaking sanctions? You've failed to Defend U._K.. Shipping why and finally we get the result of the LIB DEM leadership contest test the softening Katie expecting Jo Swinson to win or we or is it much closer than it appeared start the contest but I think when it comes to leadership contests mistakes ulcer in the Tory leadership is very hard for the polling often into Western. What is exactly going on is interesting difficult? Speaking to Redemption Bove's is the sense. I think that Jason is more likely to get this biting. The margin is going to be interesting to the case that perhaps it didn't mean every time you speak to lived M._p.. They will tell you how friendly the contest is and how they're absolutely delighted rather not at David J Simpson even basements in will say that should be delighted if adcose obviously has so it definitely has a slightly different dynamic when it comes to and clearly has got attention in the past few weeks while the Tour de contests has been on but it is good to be a very important decision you think about the fact that we could be having an election anytime seeing that he looked Lib. Dem's are in the polls. The EH leader in contrast to re Party is actually inheriting a very positive situation where the party has got to whether or not that's pretty Vince cable assets or luck intangibles having the party until about gay sex. Eh Eh we've got the media fakers which is going to be hard before these leaders than what happened Tim Farron and the general election so I think it would be a surprise of Jo. Swinson didn't get it but ultimately do you get the the sense that whatever happens is not going to be as big upset as tomorrow. If Jeremy Hunt Somehow wins James Davey and Jo Swinson do differ in terms of how they get what they want in a hung parliament scenario scenario you say at Davy for instance would vote for Jeremy Corbyn Queen's speech of a hard legislation for a second referendum in it. Jo Swinson is much less clear on that but it's very uneasy about since she doesn't think you can trust Jeremy Corbyn too so the outcome of this contest is really important isn't it. I was very struck by in your writer for a debate that you took part on quizzing the Swinson and Davey on Friday night of this difficulty for the still skull by coach of what they say and also how they position themselves on the one hand they want to say to remain voters. You can't trust Jeremy Corbyn an inch on the other hand they want to try and create this brewed remain alliance and suggests that they'll they'll do whatever they need to do to stop brexit. They're not worried about their own party. I mean but he's going to be attention. I mean one of the things about general election is but even if general elections before breakfast it won't be for solely on Brexit and it'll be a difficult question former Lib dem's which is the Lib Dem's pro remain position is trucks into them a certain kind of middle class prosperous demographic but are probably probably you but not pro all of the taxes that Jeremy Corbyn with I'd like to place on them and how Lib Dem's navigate that question what was going to unconvincing in your blog. You're saying they were saying oh we'd vote for the Queen speed for them. Vote Down the budget. I kind of that way so I think that as a kind of tricky question also fascinating question which is we'll talk a lot on this bogas about Boris Johnson the polls how him getting a poll bounce with affects things I think is also worth noting gene to see whether the Lib Dem's got any kind of bounce service extra not where they're going to get that much but there's extra coverage a Nudie will get because I think if you look at the decline and support Jeremy Corbyn among Labour members if a new more energetically dome and leader you live in homes Po position is maintained. If Labour's can all regularly coming second in the polls because Boris Johnson is brought back some voices from the BREXIT party.
