"Who like dragon. It came out in january in japan for the playstation four. Let's get that out of the way right now. It is so it is a twenty twenty game. It's one of the earliest entries into the twenty twenty year for video games but they are now releasing it worldwide north america whatnot on the playstation four on november ten for the xbox series and the playstation five the next generation. Here's the deal. Xbox series x is getting its own rendition of uku like dragon getting its own rendition. On launch day on november tenth for placing five owners. It's gonna come to playstation five as well. But i will tell you that it is something that i think. A lotta people need to go out of the way to play. It's one of the better games of this year. That's come out a lot of reviews of behind it and on a new generation platform. Give it a try yakuza. Like a dragon when it comes out to either the playstation four xbox series x and also later on playstation five. so hopefully. You will get a chance if you want to delve into it. Like n-o-a-a has without getting your fingers chopped off. Hopefully you'll get a chance to go ahead and give it a world as

"Among other things. Not only did they lay off some studio employees. Not only did one of their companies that they purchased in many years since. Espn lay off five hundred employees but on top of that disney went ahead and announced that free guy which had been pushed from twenty twenty one into twenty. Twenty is now being put off the schedule. Speed taken off of it and move most likely back into twenty twenty one at some point appointed time. plus also kenneth branagh's death on the nile. So i want to hear thoughts my friend on this. It's really disappointing to see that a movie that they have such high hopes for which already moved into twenty twenty as now been moved out of it.

"It's a very silly seen the usual suspects Omar that you mentioned of him, him staring around the room at at at artifacts but but it provides kind of satisfying closure and there's also an emotional closure to that arc that we talked about with two because the two of them are united at the end he seems to have become somewhat. More enlightened in his view of women right. In the sense that at least two tar has kind of impressed him with her independence and there's a moment when he admits to her that she is now his favorite of his children, even more than his brutish sons that we briefly glimpsed at the beginning and they're sort of a nice bond between them and that was a moment even though I didn't absolutely love this movie and didn't laugh that many times that I kind of wanted there to be more borat into our in our future like I wouldn't mind seeing the two of them set out on some other set of adventures. Yeah Yeah. There's like an emotional payoff there. There's there's some sort of jokes within about Khazakstan, is a feminist nation now. So instead of sending off mail-order brides and now set us enough middle order grooms and there's a shot of like young men in Tuxedos being like packed into a and ship to Kevin Spacey. which I guess is progress. Yeah, but then there is the this sort of setpiece in in the first movie called the running of the Jew which is like the running of the Bulls but with these kind of group to grotesque antisemitic puppet characters because now now causing realizes that. First of all anti Semitism as bad. The real enemy is not the the GIO, but the American and so now they have these grotesque. There's there's a Maga Hat Guy Anna sort of. McCullough type like a Carib with an Uzi. Running down this narrow street and like shooting Green Mucus on people that outcomes Dr Chee Puppet and he's Karen shoots him dead where they are fifteen. So. That's that's the happy ending I guess. Right. So having reached the end of this movie, there's some more stuff I want to talk about this sort of lies outside the scope of the movie but seems like a big part of it because as I was saying up top these bubis performance pieces and kind of wakeup calls to the public as much as they are works of art and that has to. Do with the reception of this movie and Sasha Baron, Cohen's presence in the media afterward I'm wondering if you have any thoughts about that because you mentioned it a bit in your review I mean the fact for one thing that unlike back in two, thousand, six, Sasha Cohen will now appear as himself from time to time he went on Good Morning America with Maria. As himself as you pointed out in your review, he late last year addressed the Jewish anti-defamation League as himself and it's it's really good speech that he made, but it's quite startling to hear him in the persona of his you know Oxford accented extremely educated Progressive Self who's not in character and elise completely sincere. In the end it all comes down to what kind of world we want. In his speech. Zuckerberg. said that one of his main goes is to uphold as wide. A definition of freedom of expression is possible. It sounds good. Yeah. Our freedoms are not only an end in themselves. They're also the means to another end as you say here in the US the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. But today these rights are threatened by hate conspiracies in lines..

"So as you say, the basic plot of this movie has to do with the attempt to give to tar away as this bride this bride gift from the government of Kazakhstan to a Premier Mikhail Pence as borough refers to him that ends up failing because they can't get into the CPAC conference that that pence is speaking at and so then they downgrade their. Ambition to to give her to Rudy Giuliani. But before all of that stuff happens, we meet them back in Kazakhstan I? Think it was actually filmed in Romania. But we we meet them in their dirt poor village and and we meet Borat who has been apparently doing hard labor in the fourteen years since the last movie came out because he failed to make glorious. Nation of Kazakhstan and has been punished this whole time. So this is actually a chance for him to to regain his freedom and and his stature in the country, and in fact, before the decision to to make to tar the the prize that they're giving away the idea is that that will be bringing this gift, the his a chimpanzee who is at once a porn star and I think Kazakhstan. Premier talk show host or something. Like cousins Aunts Minister of Culture and I think number one, televie star is the official term. Yes so he is Johnny. The monkey is being sent over as a special guest for Mike Pence. Initially was they initially wanted to give the gift to Donald Trump but if you watch the first movie recently, your may remember that there's a scene in that where the camera pans along the entrance to trump tower in see brought at the end. Taking a shit. On the sign in two, thousand, sixteen, th they replay that clip and they're like well. Unfortunately can't get him to close to trump. So they go for Second Banana Mike Pence, the the vice pussy grabber as Boro call seven. But when brought shows up in the US having gone kind of the slow carriage route while Johnny, the monkey got to go express. He opens the crate and finds that not only has his daughter stowed away in it but that she has in order to keep itself alive during the transatlantic journey eaten Johnny the Monkey. So so unfortunately now he has to give his daughter, the poor substitute for a porn star Monkey, but this is the only gift he has left to give. Our leaders. "And help help me get this right Sam Boras subsequent movie film delivery of prodigious bribe to American regime for make benefit glorious nation of Kazakhstan that's my very mild version of the board voice I believe that's correct. There are actually like talk about the like four different subtitles in this movie. So it's quite a dilemma for people who are sticklers about that but I think officially, that's what it ends up as I. Actually have to say, I, love the Title I. Think the title is one of the funniest things about the movie and I enjoy saying it. So I was glad to have the chance to. So of course, Borat subsequent movie film is the fourteen years later sequel to Sasha Baron Cohen's really kind of comedy comedy industry changing or at least in in two thousand six, it seemed that way I bore movie. and. Maybe we should start off I feel like we need to put a little this a little bit of a frame for those people who might not have been. A old enough or somehow plugged in enough to have gotten the hype around what the first movie was in two thousand six. Do you have anything to say about that? I mean in terms of sort of contracting what at one means to what to means? Be The first borough was considerably I. Hate to use this term inevitably, we'll have to. Edgier in two, thousand and six. Then this is now the style of British comedy that started to. Come. In I guess sort of in the late nineties like the the office, the British office was part of it. The day to day and and Chris. Morris his stuff like brass. I. Kind Of. As part of its lineage as well. But it's so familiar in the US now in two, thousand, twenty, one of the. Plot points they have to deal with this movie. Right? Is the fact that Sasha Baron Cohen kick out on the street is borat anymore because everybody recognizes him because the first movie so well known. For the style it represents..

"Often the weight of the pranks is actually on Maria Bockel lava as his daughter by you know where they've got scenes where she is kind of doing. So people aren't as thrown off by the familiarity of the character and I think that familiarity throws this movie off, slows it down a little bit and makes it not work as well even though I think Maria. Is. Very very funny. I think she is a terrific find for this movie but the movie itself didn't hang together as well in part because Borat himself is in these ridiculous get ups and so that's where the fakeness. Of the interaction between these fictional characters and the real world really drags it down. He's in pancake makeup and fake noses, and it's so obvious. To the world around him, that something is Amiss beyond this guy is acting. Unexpectedly to that point. That's one thing that I struggled with was watching this ad to. Disguise as Borat SOM- like are we watching Sasha Baron Cohen being disguised as Borat being disguised as another person and so then when he would talk and do accents are we watching Borat trying to do an American accent or my watching Sasha? Baron Cohen trying to do a southern accent which I know he does very well some like my mind had two different things in order to process. Her Front of my face I haven't really watched the original Borat but I feel like even the way I remember it is a little more cohesive in what felt like at least overall goals in terms of like, Hey, there's actually a lot of like racism and weird stuff just under the surface like you don't understand how close to the surface this stuff actually i. feel like that was the big takeaway in general from the first Borat besides my wife F. and all of that I had to do it. I'm sorry like someone who has gone. On for the team but this one, it's like it feels so over the place and then even more than usual it depends on what you are coming in knowing because there are things like the crisis pregnancy center, which is something that I think is really interesting in that moment of works for me and is not necessarily something that is as top of mind but then you also get to these parts with conspiracy theorists that is also like well, maybe a year ago, this part would have. been more interesting, but it feels like the level of that has permeated American Society enough that like that is actually something that even the average person is seeing play out in their life, and so it feels both like a year behind, and then you know again on like crisis pregnancy center moment is like compelling and then these other moments feel overly stage. So there's just a lot happening and it feels like Sasha Baron Cohen lift in the closet, and it was like I have this weird. Yellow Thong outfit I used to wear people liked that character and I'm going to pull him out again and I don't know that I needed him to pull it out again. But there are these moments like I said, but the sum of its parts is much worse than the parts themselves. I think the moment in two, thousand six and the moment in two thousand and twenty is exactly what you're getting at Daisy, which is that now satire is so close to reality. Now at Stephen, I, know you store. And I thought up this way with the idea like you..

"A handful of people out to the polls to vote who may have been like a pathetic about it before but I don't know maybe I I've read something yesterday. I think that more people have voted early up to this point than wage. 10 days before the election then all of the people that did early voting in the 2016 election. Hey, so with like a week and a half to go we've already well eclipsed that previous number and I and in our in our final, you know, Rock the vote segment for the show. If you are in the United States and you have not voted off ready and you are of legal age and are you know, make sure you register and vote and go go to your part. Go go go have your say out there and then maybe watch Borat for for some some interesting humor. Any any any final thoughts in this one Brandon before we move on to our patreon pic. Yes, the last thought that I have on this on this topic on this movie mentioning on the politics of Borat in in 2006 when Borat came out, It wasn't it wasn't overly political because all this stuff was just it was just spotlighting some some indifference and and these these cultural things off that Sacha Baron Cohen wanted to get after well inherently 20/20 is is anything you're going to do is political especially his and so it becomes way way more of over to age. And so, you know, it's it's a different it's a different climate now than it was back then anyway that that's all I had to say on that. That's the last thing I had to say on the let's let's go into Iraq what we like to call a Segway segue Segway is segue. Exactly exactly. You remember segues like the things you would ride on exploded in your package. No, those are hoverboards. You can't take once you can't take a lot. You can't take like a hoverboards. Anyway can take them anywhere. I remember when everybody thought segues were going to be like the future off to become like the lazy people in Ralph are not reckon track in less that movie. Yeah Wally Wally Wally cuz they're all going to ride around are Segways. Anyway, we're going to talk about be Stars the Stars. This is our patreon pic of the month. And this one was recommended by sire long time supporter this show and all-around great guy who is joining us right now in the chat. So you see you can beat us up as we talk about your pic. But let's I'm going to read the the Wikipedia entry here be stars is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by birth. Okey dockey. Yeah, that's that's as close as I'm going to get it and oh look at you. Look at you with the graphic change Brandon in anime series adaptation by orange-haired from October to December 2019 on Fuji TV's plus Ultra programming block a second season is scheduled to Premiere in January. 21. The anime is licensed by Netflix for North America, which is of course where we watched it. I I will I will say a front neither of us watched the entire first season. Sorry sire Dark Star Vance. I think I how many how many episodes did you get you watch do you watch more episodes may not not because I didn't want em more but you don't care as much that's why Brandon they'll be because because the will get into this more it's because the music and Ed Japanese voices like they lull me to sleep and I was drinking lots of vodka tonics last night and watching it refreshing summer beverage package was snowing here. All right, Brandon before we get in to be Stars proper. Yeah. I think I think it is only right that we have a a short discussion about thee sonra of an anime anime a what is what is Jerry say in that episode. Anyway, I could be lets you big anime fan buddy. Hm I I do not watch a lot of anime. No, no no. No I or or I don't read lots of manga. I think they only last message I read was all you need is kill which is the the book version of Live Die Repeat Edge of Tomorrow. Which good great storm. Four different movie will talk about that different episode have taken Suzy azzam. Other than that. No, I don't. I don't watch a lot of lot a lot of anime I catch up every once awhile with Dragon Ball Z and it's in its offshoots with my younger brother Brett. He tells me about a Full Metal Alchemist and and other anime shows. I think I watched a couple episodes of the the Castlevania anime that's on Netflix as well. And then I skip to the very beginning cuz I just wanted to see how Dracula died. But other than that. No, I'm not a big anime guy. I don't know why because the art is fantastic and we'll talk about it with be stars to change. It just it doesn't really click to me for some reason but I I'm the same I think like I I would catch certain like anime type stuff on Adult Swim you get into what is it? The the Toonami segments and things like that. You mention a Metal Alchemist. I I caught some of that anime light watching a little bit of Last Airbender on Nickelodeon from way back when dead One punch man. I I started watching some of that mostly cuz he looks like me but I have a lot of people that I work with who are huge anime fans and they're usually talking about different shows or things like that. So they like they suggest certain things. I'm like, all right, I'll give it a shot. Obviously like The Studio Ghibli like movies, you know house Moving Castle Spirited Away a lot of those movies I've watched but in general, I don't tend to gravitate toward this genre. And so yeah, this was this was something when you're like, all right, we're going to do it. We're going to we're going to do sire darks, uh topic. I thought I had done zero Research into what his topic was. So you're like, all right shows be Stars. It's on Netflix. Check it out. I said and I said no Rick and Morty this week. We're going to put down. Another week so we can get this topic out so we can so we hook up sire dark. Yeah, and so immediately I like type it into my Netflix search search bar and lounge is like oh this is what this is what we're watching. Okay. All right, here we go. And then like the first, you know, obviously like you get the like wage cards and you get like a little bit of artwork and you can see these anthropomorphic character animal characters and the first episode opens up page you get the like TV m a warning for nudity and smoking and.

There's a huge number of people that would have said, no, just their staff would have figured out the same note. The people who are just kind of going along with it and are like shirt I, guess so and it does expose something of People's just unwillingness still to engage or to just kind of let things pass them by but I was struck by how much in two thousand twenty those people are the exception and certainly that's In terms of like engaging with anything whether it's hate speech or you know something that they disagree with or just kind of the willingness to engage in these interviews I found myself wondering how many people they had to go through like no I won't do that or why are you filming this before they got they found the person in the banchory or in fact store who's like okay sure. And yet again, Bora explores what the film wants you to believe is American culture in particular conservative American culture, which apparently It is comprised of dim witted and backwoods rubes. "The trailer for Borat subsequent movie film, The movies any good. The title is fantastic enough sequel to the two thousand, six box office hit and cultural phenomenon. Subsequent movie film came exclusively to Amazon prime this weekend Josh you are a big fan of the original Borat by my math, your number six film of two, thousand six and you recently re watched it at least according to letterbox gave it a four and a half star rating that suggest that you still loved it or maybe even it a little bit more did that maybe somehow shroud you're viewing of this film comparing them against each other subsequent movie film subsequently couldn't live up. I, mean I really think I think there's two factors at play here for my disappointment with subsequent movie film and One is just the timing of it and the second is where my particular barometer for. The place where living in a country we're living in right now is at I. Think if if you're you're not overflowing with exhaustion over it, this might be Cathartic because it's It the politics are still in the same place right skewering what Sasha, Baron Cohen fines as intolerance, misogyny and hate in America. Now go back to two thousand six when it first came out and to me at least this is maybe part of my ignorance but to me, he seemed to be digging this stuff out of pockets of America and saying, Hey, pay attention this here right look at what's going on in your country and it was alarming and it was an expose we. What he found then. We have been awash in in recent years in this country, it's been Given a megaphone by social media. There's people have political power with these views now, and so we're in a completely different place and that is not to say I wrote off subsquent movie film as not having any potential for being important I was really excited about it but the experience of watching it, it no longer feels like in expose right you can't expose people who've been walking around with their pants down for four years. Already this what we've been, we know all this and so there was something to me that was sad about the experience rather than Cathartic rather than alarming or alerting or kind of felt like was waking me up. now, other people are experiencing it differently. It's been getting some early good reviews and so again goes back to maybe where I'm at where I had space is but let me just give you one example from the new film in how it doesn't really resonate with me. So in one bit another staged bit. Cohen puts on a Ku Klux Klan Robe and walks into the lobby of the conservative political. Action. conference. Okay. And you might say, maybe in two, thousand, six like, wow, that's brazen. What is this saying about this political movement? Well, it in the same week that movie comes out we have a US senator during a Supreme Court nomination hearing say this is Lindsay Graham refer to the good old days of segregation I mean, this is like right out there and so what is the? Point of what Cohen is doing when we have the same, there's nothing being revealed here. There's nothing being exposed, and so there was just kind of a sadness that I felt watching the film. There's some funny parts still I mean Cohen. You know here this will give you an idea where I am in my head space to the funniest thing for me is when Borat takes. Job is a barber and he proceeds to every snip. He does of his first customers hair like holds it in front of him for his approval and shows it to him, and this happens like six or seven times just that sort of silly humor. There's a lot of that in the film that still works but even Gotcha gags involving pence and Rudy Giuliani, those kind. Of fell flat to me because again, we know who these people are. We know the forces behind them We've been living under them for a while and I don't know what Cohen could have done with that reality in this character that might have felt more Cathartic for me But this this just didn't work. Now let this be the only time ever on the show. That I remotely come to the defensive. Lindsey. Graham but there's a reading of that line where it's very clear that he's being sarcastic when he says that I understand you make of this question I understand that's the defense. But Adam would you ever use that language in any context? No? Okay. No I wouldn't. Okay. Okay, we can. We can move on because I would really hate if someone thought that I wanted to defend it anyway senator Lindsey Graham but I know the context that he was asking that and I. It seems reasonable to suggest that he knew he knew what he was saying in that moment. But Josh I think your points about Borat are very valid and I'm a little bit hesitant to watch it myself only because I didn't really even like the first one that much and I'm just one of those people who has an innate kind of rejection of the type. Of Humor that is predicated on awkwardness and not even so much cruelty but just just awkwardness because the people in these movies deserve it for the most part. Right. But it's just that kind of awkwardness and discomfort. That's not a space. I'm usually very comfortable to exist in even from the comfort of my couch. Yeah there is. There is more of that there. That's an interesting question. The one of the people deserve it that that sometimes involves some investigation after the fact of lagging, how were these people invited towards the filming? What did they think they were getting into and? That can be a little bit sketchy the more you read about it sometimes sometimes not sometimes it's like you get Rudy Giuliani to say, yes and to this interview, and he should know what he's getting into and you don't feel sorry for him at all but there's definitely cringe comedy at work here as there was in the first one. So I don't know that this would get your approval anymore than the original Barrett it Adam well, I get say maybe for the last time this year Borat subsequent movie film is currently available on Amazon prime. My Name Civil. Richardson..
