DawgNation's Mike Griffith Makes Wild Accusations About the Potential of Georgia Football
"Going to read you a comment. That danny sheridan gave to us. I think it was about a week ago. Danny was picking the final four and he georgia to go to the final four this coming season and he said i would say the fourteen would be. George think georgia is loaded in. Georgia does not win this year. They are not going to win for a long time. And by that i mean. Get to the final four. Do you think this is the season as georgia is. Getting playoff are bus for kirby smart and his team. Yeah i've heard that the last few years in kirby keeps finding players in georgia keep finding ways to contend being a contender and actually doing. It are two different things. But what georgia's john paul. As they've stayed in the conversation or as curry says you gotta keep getting those at bats and when he finished in the top ten. Four straight years as georgia's don you recruit as well as kirby has you give yourself a chance and georgia's become known as a place that quarterbacks like to come now. The results have not always blossomed. Is much as people would like but you look at this roster now and jt daniels. Looks like one of the best quarterbacks in the country coming back. He's a former five-star they signed broadband. A grip he was a five star. Wants committed oklahoma. Now they've got gunner stockton committed a twenty twenty two five star. I mean my goodness talent is everywhere and now it's just a matter georgia finishing the job on football field. Which brings me one more comment and we don't we. Don't go out looking at other shows to bring you information. We take it from our own program. And i believe those two weeks ago booger mcfarland. We all know boogers credentials. He said this on on our show he said if you are a bulldog fan and you're going to sit there and stare honestly in the eye kirby has done less with more than maybe even mark. Rick how would you respond to that. Wow i guess. I'd say first of all you've got to get more right. You've got to have those recruiting classes in the top two or three. That's a good problem to apple and as far as doing more with less they're less with pernille they're getting ready. You can't if you can't finish the job though mike. That's i mean you're you're you're you're you're playing right in to what these guys are saying georgia out recruit anyone would maybe the exception of alabama But when are they going to finish the job. That's the question that georgia fans are asking. Yeah it's it's been tough when you win the sec. Three years in a row. And you lose to alabama in the sec championship. Game and twenty eight teeny get left out of the playoff for you. Come within one play of winning the national title twenty seventeen. I mean. i can't answer those questions for you. Know it's funny. You had ryan mcgee up there a few minutes ago talking about the late. Great dale earnhardt. He didn't win the daytona five hundred until his twentieth attempt. So those big game. Victories can be kind of a lucid. And i think that's happened for george. Remember paul kirby smart is only forty five years old. This is only year six for him. You look at how long it took guys. Like steve spurrier and nick sabin and they were six seven years into their careers before they got their national titles.

"Twelve when these two teams played the first time. And you know tampa kinda got embarrassed especially in the first half and i think todd bose went back and watched that tape and he said you know what i gotta make some adjustments. It's no different than you. Always you know if you try segment and it doesn't work. You gotta make some adjustments. You gotta try again. Otherwise it's insanity it's do the same thing over and over and expect a different result so ta bows try something different. He played what we call a too high defense last night. I mean you got to safeties that are going to be back. Fifteen to seventeen yards. And they played a lot of different variations of man and zone underneath. And that allowed them to keep thai recused from getting a fifty or sixty yard touchdown and and limit the big plays and then. The defensive line consume j. p. p. shag barrett evita guys got out the patrick mahomes and it was as simple as this dismissive line for the buccaneers dominated the kansas city chiefs offerings of line. And even a great. Patrick mahomes could not make up the difference between the two units. I mean you kept thinking as a fan. I mean this guy. This guy's magical. He'll do something but i mean. Was there anything else he could have done. I mean he was on. He was on the run from the from the first play paul. Petro malls played outstanding. I it considering what. What type of pressure he was under. I i mean imagine imagine somebody in invading your house you got twenty people invading and instead of you having a gun you got like a little slingshot. That's basically. we're trying to do last night like he was. He was trying to defend and defeat for defensive lineman they were absolutely so people that say mahomes didn't play. Well i beg to differ. He played outstanding under the circumstances talking to booger mcfarland bigger. We showed a A graphic earlier in the program about some of the the impact of obviously devon white layer on the other side and leonard for net. You know all these guys. And i'm sure after a rough season in baton rouge and had to give you some lsu tiger pride to see them shine last night. Yeah paul you know it just to see those guys do what. It's like to be a champion. You know you mentioned that wouldn't panico earlier Going into the hall of fame. Tara massi won the championship last year with kansas city. Now dan why Get an opportunity to go in and win a championship and enter for net. I it's something that we all dream about When you're in high school and then some of us get an opportunity to do your level others of us do it in a professional level. But when you're a champion part it means something that means. You're the best the best and that's the goal and it's no different than any other profession out there when you set a goal and you can achieve it and you can get to the top It's an amazing feeling. it's a feeling of fulfillment. It's a feeling of satisfaction. A and it's one that i think everyone should feel at some point during that profession whether you a radio show host. You're trying to you know. Have the have the top ratings for particular book whether you're a tv show and you're trying to get you know the highest viewership. I think we all need that As much as we need constructive criticism to make us better we also need satisfaction of actually getting to the top and so it was good to see those guys Get to the top and you know especially the winner for netball about this jacksonville. Took him number four. Aw and they cut him and now he's a world champion. i think. Football paul is the greatest life and every time the game is kicked off it continues to teach and show us something and so Very very proud of those guys last night. Let me let me send her now on on the story everywhere today and. That's tom brady. Because you understand what he's been through in the sense that he could've walked away and nobody would have blinked an eye. Help us understand what motivated him to go after this and ultimately pulled it off without having talked time I would just guess paul i. It's really simple. Is that years ago when he was drafted six round. Pick number one ninety nine Somebody told him that he wasn't good enough. You know a lot of people told him that he wasn't good enough. And i gotta think that that person that that feeling still motivates him today. The feeling of people telling you you're not good enough. Steel motivates him. Today the feeling of someone telling you that. You can't steal motivates him today. The feeling that people tell you that it's all about bill. Belichick is not about. You still motivates them today and so when you get a competitor. Paul who is competing at the highest level and physically. He's fine. he's bodies in great shape. He's really never been injured and aco years ago and and he wears grace for that so he he's just competing at a high level and and he's enjoying doing it because i think when he gets done in a private moment. Because you'll never do it publicly. I think in the private moment he wants to look in the mirror until everybody you take that because what i just put behind me is possibly not just degrade his career in football for. Maybe the greatest career professional sports. You think about what he did. Paul well think about this last night. Here's a guy paul. He's one six rings and in the middle of a pandemic he changes teams. He's michigan's team. Hbo zoom he comes down. he's practicing at a local high school. They got helicopters flying over all of these different things. He's got a new offense coordinator. You got new head coach. He's gotta learn new team all during a pandemic and he's gotta get tested every single day with the q tip up his nose. I can go on and on. Paul and the bottom line is this. They were seven and five in the at the end of november. And everybody said it wasn't gonna what tom brady said. You know what i think it. Will you just gotta give us little. And the patience and fortitude and the experience of tom brady Show out everyone on that team to believe and there you go. They're world champions a missed all the circumstances that everybody had to deal with the team. That really didn't become a team until late in the season. The team that had to become a team over zoom on the championship again. Football's a great teacher in life ball. And finally you know this. This question comes up a lot booger about nick. Sabin you know now with seven national championship. He's almost seventy years. What motivates them. I mean tom brady could've retired after three after four. now he has seven. So the question remains what. Ki- what do you think will keep him going or do you think there's any chance he'll say you can't. You can't do any better than what happened last night. He's going to continue going because he's gonna wake up. He's got feel good. Body is going to be fine. And he's gonna say you know what there's somebody out there. Doubts about michael jordan. Michael jordan showed up play. Eighty two games pretty much every year of his career. And they asked michael jordan. One time why do you show up and play every night. It'd been easy for my take out and he says simply simply this ball. There's somebody out there that's never seen be played is gonna come watch new play tonight and they expect great is going to be somebody that hasn't seen tom brady do what he's done at a high level there's going to be somebody that out to him that he can still do it and so he's gonna show up and he's gonna continue to prove people wrong until one day his body says he's can't and i think at that point whether it's forty five forty six whatever that number is i think. At that point. He'll shut it down. Doesn't get any better than this conversation. We just had with booger mcfarland. Booger many many things. So we can't thank you enough. We really appreciate the time. And it's have agreement buddy you got. Wow that was like a course in motivation. That was just brilliant..

"Calls at eight five five. Two four two seven two eight. Five and rodney is in virginia. Hey rodney pay. How's it going today. It is going great. Thank you so. I tell you what i was calling about. You know you mentioned earlier about Maybe coach pruitt's What would you say his Public speaking skills that were denied. I'm sorry yeah. That would be a charitable way of putting it. Well while i'm not going to deny that there's a lot of times that you left something to be desired. I i just wanna say. I was listening to the radio station last week. Live up. virginia. I was on the road coming back from tennessee. You know listening to some of the local radio stations. And they kept talking about cow. Pruitt didn't understand tennessee's culture and it made me think that what they're saying was that there are some prominent boosters that tennessee to expect you to smooth them when you're the football coach and he wasn't doing that and so it really seemed like maybe they were willing to crash the program to get someone who would smooth them that makes sense. Yeah you know something interesting. That is always a problem. Not always but it usually is because You know boosters like to be massaged. And i don't know if if if jeremy was as bad at that as as maybe some people i think he he's a he's an assistant. He was an assistant football coach and he has a mindset. And it's hard to turn that off and become a ceo and because there are so many demands on your time. I spoke earlier with shane. Beamer who's an young coach even though he grew up around it he said that every morning till night. There's just no time in the day because know there's media there's recruits You recruiting is nonstop. I i sat with a couple of years ago. I mean normally. I i i know coaches and maybe maybe i'll have lunch or dinner occasionally when we're in town but we spent the evening During the national championship game with bret bielema. When he was at arkansas it was a four hour show. We did and he was with us the whole time. He never looked away from his phone. And i asked him. I said what are you doing. He said i'm on twitter on t. Texting i he said these these young guys you have to. You have to keep up with them. Every every thirty or forty minutes or they. They don't think you care so that that's a big part of it. Well i'll tell you one of the thing that i heard about this and i don't know personally but from people i know down in knoxville and that said one thing jeremy pruitt had done and if you think about where he came from with his experience at florida state georgia alabama he understood the importance of recruiting and he was really allocating. A lot of time and money to recruiting for tennessee. Which i think the fact that they were able to stay competitive despite their inconsistencies on the field is a tribute to that. And i'm little nervous anytime. Anybody new comes into the sec. Not realizing that time the kind of time and money that recruiting cakes to be competitive in that leak. Yeah the only thing i will say about that. Is this I thank you very much for your call. But i think considering hypo went to the university of oklahoma and coach there i think he understands big time recruiting because the top shelf so know missouri's a little bit different he has experienced there murray recruits Ferociously but they don't recruit at the same level as you're or alabama or even tennessee. But you make some good points. I thank you for calling. Let's continue and buck was held is up next in florida. Hey buck hey good. Evening found bomb. I was just wondering if you were surprised. As i was that tennessee. Gabriel phone jon gruden so quickly grew always That guy that Is going to be the next tennessee coach. I i talked gruden about that once. I saw him somewhere. And i think i think there was a moment when you could have gotten Jon gruden but that moment unfortunately has passed forever. Jordan is up next in asheville north carolina. Hello jordan hey paul. Thank you for taking my call. Thank you i learned. There's a lot of people have a lot of opinions of course about the higher with tennessee. Rapidly showed a knowledge and people wanna question or they don't know but there was an article. I felt that they someone had off base blue. The it was a picture of a facebook articles. I sees me of a newspaper. Article is posted twenty one years ago and it said why the new england patriots won hard bilgic was the name of the article and And you know and it's shocking because everybody's a prognosticator and you know they by opinion and everybody has the ability to post things and christopher opinion out there and pollen you. You do a great job of what you do and i know you get a lot of criticism from people. And here's the thing that you gotta remember paul on those. Been doing this for a long time that there's only one person that's on the phone. He paid to do what they're doing. So you keep doing what you're doing. Paul we appreciate you. And you know what tennessee. We just got a chance because you never know might be next bill belichick next very much. No it's really good story to tell and I i was able to to spend some time with mike shoshefsky and He was nearly fire or early in his tenure. There are a lot of great stories. Like that. And i think the frustration for tennessee is that this is The same movie times for and it is frustrating. And i think the most frustrating part wasn't coaching change. It was the fact that a whole new regime had to be brought in because phillip fulmer was in that position and he s respect and he deserved it. But you know he was gone before. You could even blink. An eye and danny white has a great reputation and you know he will run this athletic department efficiently like a business but it may not. Everyone may not agree with him. And i think he. He was stung today by some criticism in some in certain circles which i doubt he was expecting. Let's continue and more phone. Calls and patrick is in fayetteville arkansas. Hey hey patrick. Hey paul it's always rushed to be on the finebaum show. Well it's great on it. I was gonna ask you paul. What does it take to be. A good Maybe the top quality at takes..

"Save the best for last. Our good friend burger mcfarland. We're barely able to pry them from tom. Brady's house to come back and do our show booker good afternoon. How's everything in. Brady bill and you know paul. Everything is grey down here. Everybody's excited the super bowl will be here in less than two weeks in tampa florida beat america. Although i don't think people come coming But i'm kind of people would be focused on raymond. James stadium buddy levin day you're a former buck and I'm sure it has to be a great feeling. And let me let me get you to the antithesis of that story. Where where people are pulling their hair's out and that's the university of tennessee. Where josh hypo was named today. From central florida following danny white from the other day it has not gotten great reviews although some people are being more sympathetic booker. Saying what else can tennessee do gives. Your view of where tennessee is right now. Well paul tennessee. Did the best they could and you know for as much grief is. We gave danny white by proclaiming the national. You know. I can't wait to talk to him and ask him. Was he serious or was that like just some some form a little stunt there i i think danny is outstanding as they d I think that was a home run. Hire and when you when you test him with hiring the next coach tennessee amid everything. That's going on there now and was expected to come. I mean who do who did tennessee. Faithful one. I mean did. Did they bank that. James franklin was gonna lead penn state where he's built program to come to tennessee where he could be on one or two years probation. I don't know if that's feasible. I don't know if james franklin if you do that unless tennessee was willing to overpay. And here's what i mean by that. I think tennessee could have gotten the coach they wanted. Maybe if they were willing to go say ten billion dollars a year. But i don't think the people at tennessee. We're willing to do that. But in order to get a coast to come deal and clean up with what's going on now and clean up what's to come you're going to have to overpay and we're talking four or five six years for ten million a year and i don't think tennessee Even the most stones tennessee laminne fe for were willing to do that. Now with that being said. I like to hire josh hypol- because what you have to do is when you hire this coach. You had to hire somebody. That tennessee was going to be a an upgrade or a promotion for them regardless of the sanction. Josh checks that box number two. You had to hire somebody that could do more with less because tennessee is going to be void of talent depending on what they sign in the signing class depending on who leased to transfer portal hypo has proven he can create offense With just a few skill players down at uc now he's recruited and built that up but he's proven he can do that check and thoroughly. And lastly i think you had to have somebody. That was a big enough. That people knew who you were and if that person has some. Sec ties a little bit. That was great. And i think josh hyper checked. All three of those boxes. So if you're going to see what more were you looking for under the circumstance lugar asks for a reality And self fulfilling prophecy clash because you could say this about any fan base or or at least the majority of the fan is. We all tend to think a lot more of ourselves than maybe we really are. And if you look at the hires in the sec lately these are not the biggest and the brightest in the industry there are some very low key hires especially this year. Well paul what you have to look at is you have to understand that. Twenty twenty year of covid so some institutions finances. We're going to be a little bit limited and also just because these big names you know what that means ball that means. We are recycling. The same names over. It's amazing every time a job comes up in the sec. Everybody says you freeze you know why because that's the only coach. Most of these people know hugh freeze and gus malzahn in the same old name. Well guess what now you have a was it. Brian hartson at auburn. Have leah vanderbilt. Yep beamer south carolina and now you have josh hypol- at tennessee. These aren't household. Sec name and so everybody sec. Just kinda gets in an uproar. I wanted you free. Well do you really want hugh freeze or do you want to freeze. Because he's beaten alabama a couple of times. And so i would tell people in it and i would tell you the same thing paul. Let's give these young up and comers and opportunity to see what they can do. Yes they're going to be judged against the big boys can save and smart or your own mullen. That's what they're going to be judged against. Let's give him an opportunity and see if they can compete because what at some point. They're going to get on the field they're going to kick the ball and we're gonna see it. Beamer can hold up in the in the east. We're gonna see if hypo can hold up Ben hill griffin stadium. We're going to see. Clark at vanderbilt bit off more than he can chew. And so we can criticize hires now and we can worry about the press conference now. I don't care about the press conference. What i care about is can these guys get in there and get their teams to play to their optimal level. And i think you. And i both know when tennessee is humming. Tennessee is a national power for guess. What kennesaw hasn't been that way in a long time. So i hope the fan base is ready for real escaped expectations over the next three or four years because it's unrealistic for them to compete for a national championship in the next three or four years. I think if you're tennessee. You gotta give josh. Hi tom. it's gonna be exciting. It's gonna be a ton up a point but the key will be. Who does he hire as the defensive coordinator if he hires somebody that that has Some pedigree somebody has experienced somebody who's good to me. That's going to be the key for tennessee. And i think tennessee fans thought their gm crew. It was going to bring all of that plus more and you know he. He brought the more. It just happened to be probably coming with sanctions In terms of defensive coordinator he had randy shannon at ucf. Holly affected guy. He randy's mixer not for for that job is someone. You'd think that could make a difference in knoxville. Depends on whether or not he wants to bring income from tennessee. You know randy right. Now is the intermit- ucla I know randy randy is a very very good coach He's been with josh hypo for a few years now. Ucla You know hypo kinda Intimated that he was going to be able to go down and bring some of the coaches and then and you expect them to do that. Those guys he hired down and you see those guys he trust. I'm assuming he will bring four or five of those guys down there. And i'm pretty sure everyone wants to know. What's he gonna do with kevin steele. Josh hypol- you have the best coaching staff you can. And if kevin steele is a part of that great if not then you know. What's you got to hire the people that you think are gonna give you the best chance to succeed. Not the people that are going to please the fan base and please the alumni because at the end of the day the person has to answer for the school board on saturdays. Josh hypo and he's gotta be responsible for hugh who he hires. And i'm pretty sure he's got to hire people that disrupt the daddy trust finally booger you've talked about the staff just for recruits out there who are looking around and those who can go other places. What what is josh hypo. Have to sell right now. Other than opportunity. Well i think if you're a quarterback is you an offensive guy. You're skilled player Josh hypo can promise you one thing you come to you. You come in. Tennessee almost said ucla to become the tennessee. We're gonna chunk around I'm gonna give you an opportunity to make plays. And i'm gonna give you opportunity to show what you can do. He can sell that. So i have no doubt that tennessee is going to be able to get some dynamic skill players quarterback josh hypol- being a quarterback itself..

"He is. My friend He's guy noted he has been for a long time and now co host the NFL prime time with Chris Berman. It is Booger McFarland. What's up man? What's going on how you doing buddy I'm good. I'm good. All right. So let's just get to it. Early on the Russel Wilson Story has has been the story There's there's a few different things we know that the defense but what have you seen from his his plays it really that different or are they just that much more desperate now because the defense is even worse than it was last year. Well typically back in the day, it would be, let's run Chris I, messed up the middle as close to the vest. Let's play to our defense and then at the very Nigga game when Russell has to Russell can do what Russell does, which is the Hashtag let Russ. Cook. While you know Russ kind of publicly lauded, hey, why don't we do some of that stuff they do at the end of the game early in the game and I think when you couple that with the defense is not as strong, they lost cloudy to pass rushes and their. Overall defense is not as good as when they had Sherman and Thomas, and all those guys, and so I think I don't necessarily they've had to let Russ Cook early meaning we gotta get the bottom lock it and make we got Greg Olsen. Let's open the offense up. We don't have to be Kansas. City. We don't have to be the rams but guess what? We also don't have to run the football you know forty five times a game me and I think it's just a it's a combination of all those winter salon entrusting his credit he asked for it and he's He's plan brew Yeah what is going on with that defense? Though because this is surprising that it's this bad I. It's something I've been kinda looking at here a little bit but they're passing defense overall I mean is it just the opponent? I mean that that's something that can happen in the first month or so that can be very misleading, but they are getting absolutely worked back there. So. Here's what look at look at decent defense is about dudes? Okay. scheme. The don't talk to me about Skeet Bill Belichick is play four, three, three, four high but it doesn't matter defense is about dues like do you have the dues that can make impact plays? They can beat one on one blocking and when you look at the seahawks like who the dues they got. I mean you know clown is gone I hear about who wag not Jay writes still very good. LINEBACKERS Wagner's is borderline hall of fame. Worthy Great in the second day of who the impact guys though. Yes Adams is a true impact player and he's made an impact. The safety cornerback Griffin is okay. So you said you're not talking about the impact people you need an front seven especially on the defensive line. If you don't have guys that can impact the game to win one on one blocks your defensive line. Now you're asking the the impact to come from safeties, blitzing linebackers, blitzing and. Katie ride in Wagner for as good as they are. They're tackling machines they're not gonNA make the tackles for loss if the sets before Sambas and so I I, think the defense is really missing some dudes upfront. Aaron Rodgers. We know that talk has been about some declining numbers which real I mean there are some real declining numbers. Have you seen anything different from him or is it just as is my you know a guy we both know dilfer who beginning of the year was like now he's just more pissed off than he's ever been. On I'm really not a numbers guy like to me stats like bikinis they show some things but not all things. So so you can be a numbers guy and you can fall victim to the numbers and you let all those numbers. Now you must be going down well, and actually if you look at her rogers deal last year his his quote unquote numbers are really good. It just didn't have enough weapons, which is why the big crowds off season was. Okay. Can we get the guy some weapons while he's trying a break in? Martha's Bell Gatling in Lazard it needs other people and they were just coming up to speed. As you can see this year another year and a system the year for Aaron. Rodgers to be on demand floor, and it's amazing how those guys are starting to play better and Rogers has never been in decline. He's been a top five quarterback I don't care what the statistics say. He's been a top five quarterback for the last decade and anybody who tells you different really just hadn't watched a game and hadn't paid attention to what they see. Wow. All right. So you don't think there's any drop off the last couple of years. Some throws outside of the numbers. Any of that stuff you just think it was just personnel. When you look at the personnel that he was playing a quarterback. And I don't mean to bring up Giselle said in a long time ago. Hey, Tommy can't throw it and catch it. You know what? I'm saying. Like Thom mcan only throw it. He can't go catchy. I I think you have to to a lot of the quarterbacks around the League and I think when you look at Iraq. First. Year under mettler floor while Mandla floor came from the Sean mcvay School of coaching, which is it's about that outside zone spits played. It's about play action. It's about the quarterback cutting feeling half that system was designed to help quarterbacks that.

I mean the best hitting coach Ted, Williams, the marginal hitting coach. You know what? I mean because it came. So naturally to him, I is the person who's studied it and really understand the science of hitting and that's why booger McFarland doesn't have a job. Exactly. Right I. Think you're right like. Is it the chicken or the egg? I would be shocked I mean, that would be a way bigger story if she felt like soul man like had to become this person to get this job than it would be like this undercover story and it would be totally different. This seems from just just a few paragraphs that this is she wanted to identify an Oh, I, would get a job doing this and she said I'm not a culture vulture I'm a culture leach. This kind of her may call. Yeah. Well. But if you think about it, if we live in a world where we're really getting granular about people's heritage and it turns out that you're kids got a better shot at getting into a better college if they have a little native American blood in them or little Hispanic or little something, it makes sense. A lot of people are going to be checking that box when they're filling stuff out like there's going to be. We are giving people in that. Arena that the college campus if we're saying. We are going to lower the admittance standards. If in fact you have a little this in your heritage. And your heritage or we may be hiring, but we're looking for somebody with this and their background and not that in the background. It stands to reason that a lot of people especially in the murky world of heritage are going to start fudging things right? Why? Why wouldn't you? I mean, what's so different about Laurie Lachlan out mean it's like going. Past. Kid off like half Cherokee Indian or something she probably would have would have done that. So I think we're going to see probably more of this. Well, she's no Elizabeth Warren.

"That's a that's a really hidden question. It's interesting because because it's you know it's just so different in different areas but I would say that the things that I the common themes that I am seeing first of all. You know somewhat exhaustion on the part of administrators and coaches with dealing with this and not having. Full answers and not having a you know a definitive plan frustration from that standpoint empathy with the athletes who have been left twisting for weeks and weeks and weeks, and at least now they have they have some closure in the big ten and PAC twelve even if it's not what they want at least, they have an answer. And they at least have a direction in the other three or five leaks which allows them to. Of keep going but then yeah, I think there's also there is. Wait and see, and there is trepidation for San Twenty to forty thousand students come to a campus and then what happens. Pack I know we we. We usually ask for predictions for College Football Games and predictions that have not been really to. To significant in this process although. Having spoken to you over and over again, you've been fairly consistent on your your skepticism of actually seeing college football. Do. You think when when all the dust settles a, the three remaining will do the two did yesterday. I said actually, we were taping our podcast last night with Dan Wetzel, pizza and I. said fifty one percent they get to kick off forty, nine percent they don't. now getting beyond kickoff. Playing a month two months three months I'd say that's more like twenty, two eighty. But. For now I you know if they can continue this is also contingent on what happens when you have a full campus population but if they can continue to have you know low Virus. Rates within the team and you know huge flare ups I think they can get to kick off I think we we can see the start then I have no idea how much football we will see. Well. Pat Compared to forty your your regular Norman Vincent Peel. That's the most optimistic prediction I've heard a long time. Well. I. Can Be Dead Wrong I'm wrong a lot when I predict football games through four four. Tamil. Came around the other day and said excuse me Pat Sam came on the other day and said twenty and five twenty two to start the season five. To finish it and he sent me a text over the weekend. So I think I was optimistic. Well over the weekend. Yeah. But now it's Wednesday and we got three power five programs that are conferences that are going forward and that's the thing where it's like. I mean, the ebbs and flows of this have been unlike anything I've ever seen. Importantly it's because nobody knows what they're dealing with fully. And It just depends what your outlook like, how, what, what kind of stomach do you have for this fight and I think there's a you know and I hate to put it that way because not maybe it's stomach maybe it's Commitment but maybe it's also recklessness you know I'm not sure but I think that there are people that. As. This thing moves forward in those three conferences are like, okay. Let's just let's just keep going as we go. Well you. You know the show pretty well, you've given you've given some Adrenalin and red meat to this audience and we thank you for that. We'll talk soon. Great job. Really appreciate your time. Cap. My pleasure Paul. Thank you bad forty one of the best around. Giving hope that that is a very optimistic prediction. I know some of you are going, what do you mean? Fifty one, forty nine is optimistic. We talked. We talked to people every day. That's the best one I've heard in a while which so look at. What else we will be doing today on the program and we have quite a guest list indeed booger McFarland. He may not be that optimistic Mica rescue has sneaky good seat at the table. He is right outside that power five He likes to consider himself part of the power six John. And the huge will join us later. We're in for quite a ride. Stick around your phone calls are next to listening to the Paul Finebaum show podcast. And we are back great to have you with us on a very busy Wednesday afternoon Lisa check in with Ricky. In California Hey Ricky. Call thanks for taking my call. Thank you. I've I've got to take on something I may have missed it, but I haven't heard anybody look at this from this direction but this business about No football this fall for the big ten PAC twelve. There is no way to these commissioners are planning to play this thing in the spring. They know that that is a no go is not gonNA work. But they through that little bone out there because it's a lot easier for the coaches players and especially the fans. To accept this if there's a little thing out there will we may get to play in this spring. But you the people that have come up since last Friday and talked about all the reasons that you can't do this in the spring. Well, that's not anything new people have been throwing out all those reasons why it's not it can't work at the spring for the last two or three months. So the commissioner know that they didn't get to their position by being dummies. So they are appeasing the fans are kind of try to hold back the big blow back on this thing by say, well, we're GONNA try to play this in this free. What are your thoughts on that? I don't think springs going to happen ricky I think it's a ruse I think it's something they throw out for a lot of the reasons that you just got through saying. And secondly, the danger of spring is that you not only have a cheaper version of the football season. In the spring, you may mitigate the the greatness of the twenty one season which no one wants to see if we don't see football this spring this fall. I certainly want to see a full season in twenty one and. I've seen some models at the season would have to start late from a health standpoint and I don't think anyone wants that. Well they yeah. They may be trying to hold onto some of these. The key ball players that are either junior to senior may expect this to be their last season. you know by Nuggets subject though I think the NC Double A. IS SERIOUS ABOUT OFFERING A. Six Year of eligibility, I fully expect the NC Double A. to take care of all these players. Now, it creates issues how many players can you have on your football team but? These are extenuating and unusual times. Abby is in Alabama and you are next up a hey, abby. Hey I was wondering the Difference Between College and high? School football like lie they cancelled college but they didn't can't feel high school. Well it's a good question Right now. A lot of places in the south you're Alabama I believe high school football players are currently Practicing an pads with the first game around the corner. I think it's a week from Friday night. So at least in in many southern states, football is still going on I realized in some other places it may not I don't have a list of the entire country what they're doing in the Midwest where they just canceled football but. there are a lot of people determined. Alabama Texas Florida to get high school football in. Yeah. But like. I know with College de they say that there wouldn't be any fans in the crowd that high school there is a really. Every I know a number of places in the south right now high school football they have said..

"booger mcfarland" Discussed on The Stephen A. Smith Show
"Wherever you enjoy your podcast on a lower with us right now as promised been spent the past years the voice of Monday night football obviously he is an Lsu allom? He was on the sideline last night for the National Championship game in which his team the Lsu Tigers ended up capturing a national championship. I've had to eat Crow Ryan Clark. I've had to eat crow with Marcus Swag and now I have to eat my third play the crow talking to my next guest the one and only booger McFarland. What's the big boy? How are you doing outstanding? Stephen Okay did. I'm sure I'm sure you all we're going to show you are I know Oh. I know that you're happy team won. I know you're not surprised. LSU ended up winning the national championship last night. Were you surprised that all all with how they did it. When was your take from last night's game well I wasn't surprised that. Lsu scored the amount of points that they did. Ah I think that's the thing that really surprised me is. Our Defense has gotten better and better throughout the season and then it's not the same defense. They got embarrassed Ole miss even though we wanted to game I mean we gave almost six hundred yards of offense. I was just really really surprised and pleased at the same time at the improvement. That Dave Aranda and this defense has made throughout the season. And when you look at the offense that Clinton has I mean they got two first round receivers and he goes enrolls. You've got a quarterback who most people think it's going to be the first pick of the twenty twenty one draft You gotTA running back in the end who was highly motivated because Lsu didn't offer scholarship and to go out into tennis tiny that offense to where they did? That was the biggest surprise but also really really Good to see in good to watch those guys. You mentioned that Ross Higgins a first round picks to whiteout spots. They didn't look that way last night. How did that happen? Well I think you you gotta look at the first round picks on the other side. LSU Derek. Junior will be the best cornerback to ever play. LSU and that's no disrespect to Morris. Claiborne Patrick Peterson Davis wide. No disrespect at all any of those guys but he will be the best thing ever play quarterback at Lsu and then the other side. Chris is going to be probably a mid to late first round pigs so those guys were going up against against two first round corners. It was good on good last night in trouble on. Didn't have his best night. I mean yeah I WANNA say thirteen or fourteen overthrows so it was a combination Asian of Lawrence not playing well in the corner beds really locking those guys down. Was it that strong of a combination though because even though astral overthrows I must confess to you I saw Rawson Higgins. Having a difficult time getting open higgins was never the same once he took that shot. I believe it was the first half very early in the second half. He wasn't the same. and and this kid Jamaa Chase on the offensive side of the ball I mean this guy. Aj Terrell was supposed to be the leading corner for the Clemson Tigers and he got shredded last. Tonight there's no way around it. What was your take about what you saw from Jamaa Chase and what you saw from Clemson Secondary? Well when's the secondary couldn't handle under under the spotlight and you know Brent Venables Basically said you know what if you guys are GonNa be mean. You're going to have to throw the football over the top and once Joe Brady and Stevens. Ming realized that they just started throwing up to taste. And you're gonNA Leave Chase World War with number eight. I mean it was like taking candy from a baby out there so I think that's the biggest mismatch that was explored. It like Clemson's why receivers really good quarterback the offense is really good their linebackers Are Okay Okay but LSU exploited. I think is a weakness which is the second day and and you know you gotta give off the job earl because yeah chase got a lot of balls. How's everybody was speech thing? But borough put those balls where only guys could catch him and he gave us an opportunity to make plays and and I think you know you just look. I can't even though burroughs the housing win and he's a superstar on the collegiate level New York how humble this young man is and how much he's loved by his teammates. It tells you everything about logjam that you need to know them and follow right here with Steven. ESPN RADIO ESPN news. How do you go from being a quarterback who clearly is good but wasn't good good enough to start at Ohio state because he got beat up by the way and askins he transfers to Lsu? He has a decent year last year but obviously has some flaws. And what what have you. How do you get from that to setting all? Tom Wreck in college. Football at the quarterback position in just one year. How the hell does that happen? It's really simple Stephen. It's kind of like in life man when you have somebody believe in you. It's amazing what you can do. So I'll take you back a year you know. Lsu Oh she was trying to figure out what kind of office they were GONNA run and Steve Management Your Was the coordinator coach. Oh believe so. Much and Joe Borough. They went down in New Orleans. Doesn't he got an analyst named Joe Brady came in and said I want you to put the spread offense and we're GonNa let Joe Borough told the football the way he did in high school and when when when somebody will breathe life and confidence into you. Now we saw the two zero borough. Now we saw Joe. I was in high school to let him to be one of the top recruits coach. Coming out of high school a few years ago and and I think just that bit of confidence and Yeah Joe Brady putting a new scheme and all that but I mean how many times we've seen the spread read before it's amazing. What happens when you put the spread with the right quarterback with the right coordinator In Steve's Ming and Joe Brady that's how you get that because because somebody Joe Borough the confidence and he reverted back to the guy that he was coming out of high school which was the top recruit and that there should be a lesson in life for everyone man just because somebody doubts your talent. Don't hey don't believe that's time somebody that believes in you can just see how much you can flourish and grow into me. That is a great lesson in America. got a chance to see a lot transition to Clemson for a quick second on this level there. They were national champions. He's coming in the last night's game They returned to the national title game after beating. Ohio state had they won last night they would have won three titles in the last four years clearly making them the number one program in all of college football right now having lost. Where do you believe that leaves leaves them with only in light of the fact that you had some critics out there looking at the clemson tigers and wondering how much did did they deserve to be in? The postseason season begins with based on their strength of schedule or lack thereof coming out of the ACC. Well I would say is I think Clemson is still in the upper upper echelon of the upper echelon so they they are in the top two or three programs in the country down. Both when he's gotTa factory going down and I I know you've been down there. Yeah What he does from a team building standpoint from a man building standpoint to me is is is not eclipse by anyone? It's right there on par with a lot OUGHTA programs They have quarterback. That's coming back. They got a lot of weapons Defensively and more employment they continue to recruit at a high level. So I think when you start looking at the WHO's in college football it's still the same people it's comes on. Its LSU is Alabama. It's Ohio state each Georgia. And then uh-huh maybe leave out a couple. But then once you get past those top teams you take stuff all the clouds on his right there with everyone else. Look fallen after we saw Clemson's SHELLAC Alabama forty four to sixteen and a national title game last year. We were talking about Trevor Lawrence much in the same light. As we're talking about Joe Borough right now. Trevor Lawrence obviously had a tough night. It wasn't his greatest night. It's his first loss of his collegiate career. We get it even though we know he's going to have a bright future. How do we so something like this? In terms of I know that Joe about the move on to the pros. But how do we know that something. Like this won't be said about Joe Borough considering during the year he's had now compared to what he may have moving forward. Well I think you gotta look at things that are transferable you know sides Highway speed all those things are transferable and scouts can do a great job of scouting that and identifying that but I think there certain things that were great scouts and great GM's to go on and one of the things I call it. It's been a force multiplier and that's the ability when you who are in a group of men whether it's ten twenty on a football team it's one hundred guys and can you galvanize their group at your position and oftentimes just a quarterback quarterback because he touches the ball every single place. Okay Joe blow is a force multiplier not specific to the quarterback position. I don't care if he's six six two four they can throw eddie yards. It doesn't matter playing this position. What matters when you're a quarterback you are a distributor of the football because that ball has to get into thirty people and has to get there on time and accurately enjo- boroughs? Does that as good as anyone we've ever seen on the collegiate level so all those things even they are transferable from the collegiate level to the professional level. Which is why as long as you put? weapons around him when he can distribute the ball to those weapons. I think Joe Borough in as as a pick coming out of college as we've seen in a while he's not Andrew lucked. I'm not even say like Andrew Luck was can't miss. I'M NOT GONNA say job. Joe Borough is can't miss. But the way he distributes the football safely accurately his decision making and more than anything assuming that he's got he's got that that much it's not arrogant it's a fine line between cockiness arrogates and confidence. And he's he's teetering petering on that line but he's never cost. Yeah but the problem is if he goes pro he'll end up going to Cincinnati in all likelihood particularly since he's an Ohio native And and why would we wish that upon him that it was good at one point. How can make good again? We fall into the trap. That saying you know that's not I remember the time. Cincinnati was in the Super Bowl. I'm I'm old enough to remember. Three one thousand nine hundred eighty nine months. Yup Right right right so like I I remember that so Cincinnati is going to be good again. It's we just when I got. I remember Florida state dominated the nineties right now for the students. Go the second one coaches so football is a cyclical thing that Kinda Kinda goes in and goes out of these different phases. And there's no borough goes to Cincinnati. WHO's to say? He can't be the guy that turns it around especially they can see you to build and you know if you believe in that case like I do. I think it's missing Arizona something but obviously they are a long long. We're always but I do think says it needs a quarterback. I don't think families tha I think. They've made it from their mind. Dalton is not beyond so I fully expect Joe Byrd. It'd be the first pick. This thing goes unless they get a number with the skill set of chasing on which I think is the most talented player in the draft. And if you gave me these be the tag of who is a can't miss this draft. I would say as young as can't miss under percent. He's going to be a starting. Who Do you think? We'll be a better pro. Pro booger McFarland. Trevor Lawrence Joe..

"Pennzoil Performance Line Burger meat. Mark Mark is my new co host. I haven't caught up with with your career lately. I hope things are going well and family is good. How are you sir? I'm doing well. I know mark mark played against each other in the trenches riches. Were Real men hanging out at and so we are very much acquainted with each other in PD. I'm glad you're doing well I've I've been following best week ever and also SEC This morning when you host that so glad to know that one of us is following each other's career. Yeah Yeah No I. I've I've heard I got the note that you're doing. It's a Monday night football games which is great. I joke around because booger is one of my favorite people in humans on on the face of the earth and always this Amanda Proud of the success that you've had you've been killing it and now now I'm GonNa put you on the toughest pedestal. Here is now Jerry. Jones is GONNA call you and you're gonNA call Marcus Spears and all the boys and go. Who in in the world do I go to in? How do I fix this Dallas cowboys problem? Well I think the biggest issue in Dallas is first and foremost got along with the team man and I think you know Yeah you would love to have that problem as an owner. Because it's your team but I think when Jerry goes back and looks around and realize is that Yeah he's probably GonNa Fire Jason Garrett and a lot of people are going to be happy and saints on but now comes the real problem because who are you going to get the you're going to allow to actually Costa team without having to worry about what you're gonNA say at your press conference. Are you going to get. That's actually going to And the able to get the best out of Prescott the best out of this offensive line the best out of Ezekiel Elliott and. Are you going to allow them to do their job for the best of their ability. Because that's to me. That's the biggest issue you know when when the cowboys had their success. You know Jimmy. Johnson was running that thing and he built it to a point. Where you know Barry Switzer couldn't didn't I mean he couldn't screw it up if you wanted to? So you know Jerry's gotta understand if he wants another championship before good. Laura calls him home. He's got to relinquish a little bit of controlling a lot. Whoever he hires our assuming? He relieves geared up his duties To allow you to a lot of that team book isn't it. That's the easy. Thank you name a new coach but this team is flawed. The cowboys have a lot more issues than just the coaches that don't they. Well here's the thing. Think about it I to me. It's about philosophy because if you just go talent for town positions for a position on the team they're talented offense lineup they mark USA really good either receiver. If you sign Amari Cooper and Gallup and Randall COBB. I mean if he comes back or not I think it's a good group Tidying I know Jason Witness There Blake Jar when I think he's ready to take that next step Defensively I I still think they're missing a piece. Maybe defensively but overall I I think we would rank this roster as you know top fifteen roster and football so you know the only other thing that could be chemistry and I think coming in New Coach bringing new mindset and allowing this team to find a different identity not necessarily as far as how they play are stylistically listening but just overall mindset because everyone has expectations of the cowboys to be a super bowl contender. How about this being the best team here division because right now yawn okay so anytime you bring a new coach and they're going to set new goals they're gonNA have new outlooks and I think this team just needs a New Vision a new outlook on well how to go about playing a season and they're going to get it Barring UN- unbelievable Cinderella there will be a coaching change. I'm Peter Burns alongside I four. NFL player Green Bay Packer. Mark Talyor Stephen. A Smith show book fallen joining US right now but one of the things that I think you have an unbelievable trade in is that people trust you immediately lately. I've seen you deal with collegiate coaches and NFL coaches now. Were they will open up you because you played the game you understand it and you're not a hot take guy when you meet with guys like matlock floor of the packers and you meet with the Peterson's and meet with other coaches in the world. Bella checks does it feel the same vibe around. When you're meeting Dallas Cowboy coaches and it does it does it feel like there's there's this William Wallace will go to war for you? The players will go go to war for their guy. 'cause I feel like some. NFL Franchises have that yeah. I think you're right. You know. Some coaches create a family environment that the players can't wait to get to work and they'll run through all their coach. It's almost like a college environment. Some some coaches crab business environment. I think Bill Belichick has created a business environment. Do Your job show up to work. Do you get paid win. You make a lot of money would successful. I I think that's the Wagner New England and it's work and it's been great I think when you look at the cowboys and I've met with Jason Garrett. You almost get the vibe of you. Know it's it's a business set up very similar to what the Patriots are And there's nothing wrong with that as we talked about the Patriots have been successful. I just think about how you WANNA do it. And how you WANNA create it and there's really no wrong way because Doug Peterson Frank Reich. It's that family environment it said. Hey it's we it's all of us and I don't know if you can create that in Dallas with Jerry kind of watching over and being over that because in order to do that you have to have control info of everything so There's more than one way to skin a cat mark. I know you'll like that when I it's just about finding the right person that can work under the circumstances and I'm not saying Jerry deserves the right to make decisions and do things his way. He owns the teams. I just know how How much he wants? What's another championship? And I I just think that the easier way to get it would be for him to just Kinda take maybe a half step back and allow somebody to just run the football and and get the right players and put the right people in the right position all right book. Let's talk about a couple of teams that are actually going to be in the playoffs. January idea the green bay and Minnesota Tonight Anything that you took away from your meetings with either Mike Zimmer Ormat the floor that you you found interesting well well. I think you know. When you talk to Zimmer I love him because he's so honest and he's so direct and that's my type of person he he was very open and honest does he loves his team and he talked about the post game? Presser after the Seattle game. And everybody's like the world is over and you know the walls are crumbling. He like we lost one game He is so confident in this group. And I think that if a secondary you know rose and Trey Wingo and those guys will play up to our capability mark this is. This is auster that I'm not going to be surprised if they're playing on playing the last Sunday in In in January what they right to go to the super bowl because they that talented now when you met Leflore. It's amazing how the perception of that team has changed so much. Remember audible gate early in the season. Aaron Canabal Oh boy. Yeah you know they were going back and forth. I mean this team won. Eleven Games Defensively the Smith brothers or playing outstanding They're able to big plays on defense defense but overall I think they're being very opportunistic. I think the biggest thing I took away from that little floors just how much. He's he's grown from week. One to now he realizes he has hall of fame quarterback. And when you have one of those you kind of acquiesce to what he likes to do when he wants to do it. And I'm thinking that looks Lewis during that more and he's also having to kind of pick and choose when he puts his On the game plan if you know what I mean. And he's grown and I think you're gonNA see two very very good teams tonight and I can't wait to call listen because I think it's going to be a one of our game. We had this these no doubt. How do you think Mike Zimmer you know he wants to run the football football play good defense? That's what he's built on an with Dalvand Cook being out and we don't think Madison GonNa play. How do you think that's going to change the approach? Is it going to be more to tights heights and going there or you know digs and feeling how do you envision Minnesota Tacking Green Bay tonight. Yeah I think you're going to see some twelve personnel. which is one back to tycoon? I think you may see a little bit little bit. Twenty one also Zimmer wants to run the football. He fired offense coordinator and John De Filippo because he didn't run the football well not so regardless of who tailback is tonight. They're going to run the football because it puts kirk cousins in position to do what he does. Best which is play action pass so so it may look different but they're still going to do the same thing which means ultimately if Green Bay's able to stop the run it's going to come down to kirk cousins In this building against a hated division rival. And America's GONNA be watching can kirk cousins. Finally get the overstreet on Monday night football offers back and you you know. I think. That's one of the more intriguing things to watch I'm looking forward to it. Because regardless of what the perception is of Kirk cousins. He's played outstanding reading football. This season not good outstanding. But when you have a streak like Oh for Monday night. Football people people tend to latch onto that. Because that's a really really good line when he's really really playing. Well me play well early. This season against Seattle you look at it to Carson. Wentz answer that big question last night in that game against against the cowboys cousins trying to they've won eight of their last ten. We gotta go booger real quick bengals around the clock. No doubt that it's Joe Borough. Would you take tastes young. You know I I. I'm a big proponent of taking the best player available but I realize the quarterback always supersede that it just depends on what they WANNA do. Do they want the best player. There's nothing against Joe Borough but I've never seen anybody likes Sean. I've seen the really good quarterback and Joe Borough is a really good quarterback the back so it just depends on what you want best player or best quarterback. I think that's a decision at the bingles out to make poor poor record but rich people follows the have when you got to choose. Choose between those two..

How far do you think we could go realistically. I think you could go to the Super Bowl. I'M NOT GONNA lie. I said I think you can go to the super bowl now. I think you got stuffing away. I think New Orleans will be in your way. I think if you have to go to Chicago for example or green obey in the postseason they could be in your way. I think the eagles could be in your way. I certainly think the rams can be your way as well because I think but but I got questions about girly at this particular moment in time. I'm just fourteen carries for forty three yards. That's not what I expect from Todd Gurley that that that just is not what what I expect from Todd Gurley so in that regard. It's definitely a concern but I will tell you that. That's really really what it comes down to appreciate the call man Robert you lava. Stephen what's up so you're always been so disrespectful to Green Bay off their defense. But what do you think about it being disrespectful but they've spent years disrespecting directing us this year they look considerably better under met with Liu. That's just not going to happen but when you think they get on track well. I don't know the answer to that. Question remains to be seen. I mean they gotta keep playing. We'll see what happens but the fact of the matter is right now. They're winning the football games and that's really all that matters. I mean they're doing more than any of us expected them to do. You really really think about it. Who the hell expected anything from Green Bay right now and I'm looking at their schedule casual okay so you beat Chicago. You beat Minnesota. YOU'LL BE DENVER. You Got Philadelphia right this coming Thursday night then you the Ad Dallas those next two games I think they're Green Bay will lose one of them. I think they'll lose one of them. You Got Detroit. Oh in Oakland you win those two games then you're at Kansas City and at the charges. I think you'll win one of those too but I think you lose one of those who so you're talking about. You're talking about the the the Green Bay packers losing about three but in next six games. That's what you're talking about. That's what I'm looking at. I'm just being honest with you. That's what I see. Let's go to Germain alive. Stephen a real quick Jamaica. I assume they all right go ahead. That's the May I didn't. I know it's been good but man. Betas collapsed. They're up and collapsed the bucks okay and my my went off. Yes we are. I ask Davis looking good and in the second half on the runway. The Dow fake wants before he had heard they should on the cat. I will tell you this. I will tell you this. They gotta get their defense together no question about that after giving up what they gave in the second half to the giants. That's not good but I will say that Jameis Winston is looking better as a quarterback who are Bruce Errands and buyer left which Danny has in the last several years if not his career deb much. I'll tell you appreciate the call Jim Alive Stephen Eight. What's up. Hey Stephen a love your show. You got the best out there. They from Cleveland Feeling Dangerous Today Day. How on Earth do you let a coach. Go that turn this team around and then you bring this guy in there it goes for fourth and nine on the other teams forty. You're gone by four with six minutes to go and he has a running play off the middle you talking about the job to Greg Williams did yeah. She did a great job last sure but this guy we got here now. Bucher likes them. You go for four thousand nine down by four with six minutes to go and you run the ball up the middle and get one yard. What is that I got to tell you this first of all. I don't think listen I didn't like that but in the same breath the the six pre snap penalties definitely rubbed me the wrong away the penalties that they've been suffering over the first three games of the season rubs me the wrong way but I'll tell you the big point that you brought up that nobody has really brought up. Greg Williams actually really did a damn good job considering the circumstances and you didn't keep him on board as the interim because this guy had a good relationship with Baker Mayfield just like cliff kingsbury very had some kind of relationship with Kala Murray. I mean it. Just it just amazes me. I'm seeing this kind of stuff going on we'll see but I will say this. Freddie Kitchens. Did you listen to jury is still out but I think he'll end up doing a good job but you are right to point out that great. Williams was not bad. I gotTA get Outta here for today but I'll be back in twenty two hours until then this is stephen a sign and off piece of love. Everybody grass just a sample of what you hear on the Stephen Swift show weekdays at one P._M. Eastern on E._S._p._N. radio and the E._S._p._N. APP..

"Let's go to slim Alava Stephen. What's up my main my main but we'd be day sure check it out. I I understand what you're saying about. What people's not boat but I think they put the Mike and ask the wrong person that question now. Let me tell you what why everybody should the race thing. He put his Sir you stop it. I you said he put and then we lost you for a second so start back. You said he put what so we can get you. I'm saying that would would why we saying it was racist. What he said is because he put too much emphasis on hisself self life now his life is you might he might not be rich. We you know we understand that but it is a little Louis easier now his passion I understand Tiba Passion but when you start seeing the history and you'll grant and all of that I think as a black playing football and I'm not playing the race card. I'm just being reality. You have to look at him funny because he's he was set in college and after college now right there. Stop right there. Here's where you're wrong. You're highlighting different two different prism that he's looking at it some compared to you right now. Say Stay with me for second. You're basically basically saying that as a black person you're going to view the dynamics of college athletics as it pertained to compensation station towards the student athlete vast majority of them being black in college football and college basketball of course you're. GonNa say he has a different point of view day so you cause. He Ain't coming from your perspective right. Is that what you're saying well no. I'm not necessarily saying it just so happened that the majority of US play football but the person who asked this question is a white guy tom out we also they asked me. They asked Ryan clock. They've asked two white and black players Damian what he spoke about it. The whole bit what I'm saying to you is distant. Here's what I'm challenge you slip you can highlight right how he might see things differently because he's a white guy and he comes from a different background as some of these underprivileged a privileged athletes and that might be a reason why he views things differently the U. which is no problem with that because I happen to be factually correct buffer him to be castigated and excoriated as if he had alison ten in expressing a different point of view than you for that matter because I probably agree with you. I'm saying that's going to there. For why could we not simply say your Bro. Nope we disagree with this. I feel differently than you. Here's why how can we couldn't do that because the person Stephen I got you gotta coming from as you. Iran clocking those guys you didn't put passion into it and you gotta understand where I'm coming from. Whom I don't understand why you you come from because we have put passion into it. It's just an odd passion because of how we feel there's a line with your passion and how you feel you saying what you're saying saying about. Tim Tebow is the equivalent of me getting on you for calling up to this show speaking passionately against him. What's wrong with the passion. If that's what you believe no it isn't I'm not speaking black and white understand what I'm saying the person to me T. Oh you both is not a person who would understand that he needs money. Okay now. It's not black and white. It just so happened that we are the majority in this sport so I don't think that you can ask a white guy. What a black person. Your arguments should be against us because we asked custom it. Should it be him giving an honest answer to our question what I want to say. Basically I think when you said people Bush should be ashamed that they show I think no no no no no wait a minute you ankle give no referendum on ESPN cut that out. We ain't going there what I'm saying thing. Is this your attacking the guy's character I'm not saying you but people were cat attacking his character because because they disagreed with his position and I equated to was the equivalent of expecting white billionaires for example to be sensitive to the black plight. If you way black and you a billionaire. What would you have to do with the black plight? There's a level of sensitivity not that you would hope of this half but the expectation that they showed this fool's gold because if they don't relate to experiences and they don't want to Stan Dan and they don't get it the nasty reality. Even let's stop saying black and white when that talking black and white is just so happened been that they asked the white guy if it really in a way he can only clueless tutor scenario meaning. It's you know somebody's making trillion does the dollars off of you okay but the money was one one billion and that was the NC Double A. during the march on other than that you got big. Schools haven't television context. Whatever there's plenty of colleges ain't making money but go ahead? You're see all I'm saying the end of the day Steven A. and what this comes down to is college. glaze should be compensated in some way for him but he did say that he did say that he didn't say it like that lying so now it's like well. What the Hell is. He supposed to use live. If we're asking what are they supposed to come with judgment perspective. You're asked past experience when I'm listening to your your show Steven. One thing I like about you is you don't use your opinion in all of your experiences to George W desk because I've been a journalist for twenty five years and I've been connected to people directly involved in stories so I have inside information and I have a more defined an indepth perspective that our thieving thieving from others that most people don't have the luxury of having that would target. I'm glad you said that. Do you think Tibo has that same perspective though I it sounds more like he's not down with it well. He's not wait a minute. He's unapologetic about not being down with it but what he is saying is breath. I did play college football. I am Ha's Mitchell FY winner. I did with the National Championship. I had the number one selling Jersey. I didn't get dawn while he institution got a dime and I didn't care. That's what he's saying. You're right but he cannot speak for. Let me just say that's why keep interrupting you because you keep going off off kilter and you're wrong. He did not speak for anybody else. He said him for what he feels. He doesn't believe this. Here's why his personal opinion about doc is feeling is that's what he said the point of making to playing black and white black and white. I just wish I'd say that's what he said. That's what I said. He was talking about himself. That's what I said. I didn't say black white. No no I didn't say I didn't say that. Lets you want what I'm saying. Stephen they at the end of the day they asked the wrong person because when you as a person that questioned you're not allowed to go and ready for this ready for this land. I I just had you on the air for almost four minutes. There are a lot of people out there listening right now feel that I'm listening to the wrong person. They're like what are you qualify. How you qualify to say something. I'm not questioning it but they might but guess what you ask. Everybody a Potpourri of opinions come our way. That's what makes excrete here from every body now if you want to disagree with him disagree with him and I gotta go appreciate your time. Thank you for the call. If you want to disagree with him the slips of the world out there that's fine but to act like he don't have the right to express it is ridiculous and act act like it becomes a racial conversation. I don't even have a problem with that because people look at it from a race from racial points of view. If you're black you might feel different about it as it pertains to compensation part of student athletes then if you're white I understand that but to sit up the into never have any reason to look get him in regards to racism and in a suddenly go that route just because he expressed an opinion. That's different to you think it should be. He is wrong in my humble opinion it at eight say. ESPN edit eight seven to nine three seven seven six. We're close out the.

"The day rest in Peace Eddie Money Booger McFarland joins us now but we promise you this damn list of twenty five best quarterbacks that Mike Ryan has ever seen in college so just let's give booker the list and see what his reaction is at the end number twenty five Mike Doc Number twenty five is Derek. No David car number twenty four. We're off to a strong SARD strong start car. Eh D- Car number twenty four is Dany Werfel too low twenty three. You have to keep in mind. I'm thirty three years old. He's the best quarterback I've ever seen. Why didn't three threes Lamar Large Accent wanting to Colin Kaepernick. This is very hard to do at the same time Jason White Pat White. I'm GonNa stop doing that. Someone else who that for me Robert Griffen third argue three eighteen Dennis Dixon send yeah conversation piece Seventeen Philip Rivers Ben Rothlisberger fifteen degrees fourteen charlie ward thirteen kyla Murray Well Baker Mayfield Eleven Ken Dorsey and pay manning die any luck a Chinaman's eleven communes. Mike take five minutes you for Shawn Watson Three Games when Fraser one Tim Tebow Fogelman Farland with us now on ESPN radio booger. What do you think of that less. Thank you for joining US sir retail well. I'm on the first of all glad to be. We always you got you got about three or four heisman soaking waiters in your bottom file. I don't see how you can do that my grind. What do you mean in the bottom five win. The heisman trophy were full. You put it doesn't it doesn't mean he was better than I think. Dennis Dixon heisman trophy had maintained his health Komo my listen. You're losing all your credibility. You kidding me any walk straight us. You got like what twenty to twenty five calls like. You're applying your bias. In fact I shouldn't feel played against I should be applauded for my lack of by it because I only had one Miami hurricane on this list. You know hard not on this list you lose all credibility by the fact that you got ten people number one and and you know people a lot of things in speech and everything. I get it you telling me attempt. Tibo is the greatest quarterback that you ever saw. You didn't watch much TV coming up. I'm sorry I guess I lose all my credibility. You know who else loses loses credibility the sporting news because we agree on this would you is booger. McFarland saying that the sporting news has no credibility. Are you saying that Sir. It's not your top ten though number two team on your list. Boettger Kibo is in between five and ten in what he did at the University of Florida was outstanding like you guys didn't even have any male Holloway Tommie Frazier's before his talk to me. I didn't have any time frazier's booker again. You lose all credibility. Tommie frazier was number two on my list. Sir Back shoot away a little before his time what you saw last night bugger what the hell was that that was terrible all of it that was Thursday night football that was two cornerbacks that one I think is hurting. Cam Newton and the other Jameis Winston is just on a roller coaster ride up and down up and down last night and he was a little bit of Carolina's in trouble because Cam Newton is not running the football. He doesn't look healthy and even when he has time if I could. He's he's not throwing the football accurately they lost two games at home and I think there's serious trouble right now and we've only played two games begin to see what does booger McFarland. I'd say about the Antonio Brown's situation not not just the most recent sexual assault allegation before you answer that Schefter just tweeted out the NFL will not play Tonio Brown on the commissioner exempt list as there is no criminal investigation at least for this week. He is eligible to play. Is that the right call booger evidence. That's the right call. I'm sure they've investigated and they talk to people. I know they hadn't talked to young lady yet but evidently they are doing some due-diligence and then based on what they found out. That's the right call. My whole take on Tonio browns thing is this. I'm talking about man like I get it. He's the top five receiving the National Football Volley but at some point you lose all credibility and accountability but not only football analyst but football fans as playing a high level and there are too many guys like John Hopkins and Julio Jones and go out and other cream of the crop and they do things the right way getting to steal all Antonio Brown Doug brought the thing about that and we will get that phone line fixed in a second the thing about at that I tried to remind people of is that Antonio Brown has not played a game in all the time that Antonio Brown has become the model for for a bad behavior and doing things the wrong way. I don't think anybody week fifteen of last year would have alleged you. That Antonio Brown was somebody who did things the wrong way week fifteen of last year before the last steam right no. I think a lot of people would have said works really. They still say that if it works really hard wide receiver of this generation works it sets a good example because he worked so hard with the teammates he did have that one incident where he was taping something that Mike Tomlin ask them not to take right right but before the last game of the season his name was in good standing Bogor anyways continue with your thought please you were saying Julio Jones and De'andre Hopkins do things the right way yeah the right way ever have to worry about them and their two top five wide receivers and national football you bring a lot of attention attention on himself now this latest incident and and being accused of sexual assault now all right. We got something different here Mike. Let's go to break and see if if we can figure that out we can't have the phone line. I can give you thirty through forty. Thank I have my top telling me. Oh you do. Oh can't wait. You're on it. No Oh Donlevatar I would love to see you own a form would guy I I would starve AH lose weight. I wouldn't know what to do Stugatz on a tractor. Imagine Mike Mike how there can't be a worse farmer than me anywhere walking this plant. They gonNA close second on that. I don't I think everybody in the world would be better than me. These live at our show with his two guys Sony. SPN Radio Mark Schleyer Eth has gone to twitter and he is calling us out. Hey lebatardshow remember number how you made fun of me for a week straight from my man one. Oh one on how Antonio Brian Brown arrived at Camp. I accept your silent apologies energies. You're welcome. I don't think this accusation is one to be taking the victory lap on billy. What is it what is it that I heard you saying about the ball spotting last night the old guy referees sort of arbitrarily putting the ball where they thought it might be in a game that was decided by inches several times over on like three or four different plays. That's what you heard me say. It's kind of ridiculous. Isn't it like the ball is down and then one on rough moved at like six inches forward. We already kind of like why are you moving like he didn't even he wasn't hand the ball he picked it up off the ground and moved it forward six inches for absolutely no reason they toss it to his friend and his friend moved it up and like another foot and a half how we just happening. Why are these people getting injured for this before he placed listed down for the official spot. He accidentally dropped it and then to iota referee who then placed the ball where accidentally dropped it. They all got very confused. I could see how that could happen. I mean we have people out there deciding these things. I don't think younger would do a whole lot better. I know that we like to smear them as old people deciding it but I think all people young people I think it's just funny the idea fourth and inches. How do you know we don't one and a half the time there's fifty people on top top of each other and you're just guessing where the ball is and you just trusting that the person at the bottom keeps the ball on the same spot the entire time. You know what as much as we've made fun of this over the years. I do want to say that rarely is egregious like rarely is it as agreed says it was last night and that seems to be a pretty hard thing to do. Would you not agree. They get it right an awful lot or they get it. They get it close enough to write that. No one WHO's watching is objecting but if you didn't think that watching Carolina Tampa under any circumstances at any time in history would be constipated throw in a Thursday night football football on short rest throwing injured Cam Newton throw in a lightning storm that made I'm sure much of the audience go away and never come back and then on top of all that because it was bad football stu gods like that was that was no that was not pleasant to watch. I don't think do you think anybody found that pleasant to watch anyone who had Tampa I'd be. This is the second straight week. We're Carolina's been pretty abysmal to watch. I don't even we know how much we can put it on Thursday night football considering a plenty of rest going in a week one and they were terrible on top of that though we're doing the measurement this way and and the camera angles last night and anyone explained that because I got frustrated in the first part of the game they only had two kinds of camera angle it. I've told you before that one of the amazing things about televised football is that you have no idea how hard it is to get all those camera shots right so that no one disoriented. I I didn't hear yet an explanation for why did the lightning takeout some cameras. Is that what they had to take some cameras down move the Meta position because they were like imperilled because they were lightning but how how how disorienting was it to watch because one of the only camera angles working was the wet camera that flies over the field. How disorienting was it to you guys to see the ball snapped and all of a sudden the only angle we have is from the back of you see how the play develops because because you're watching from a different angle than your loved that I didn't know about it being because of lightning I thought they were just trying a new. I love that end zone because as the balls hike you can and see the receivers like who's open. I actually like really enjoyed that thing on the touchdown pass to Godwin from Jaimes Winston. It was perfect because you saw the the initial lookie wanted allotted was not there. Goblin was wide open you saw it all developed and James just stepped up and throw a tape. Let's let I want a marvel about this. This particular juxtaposition..

"They're the highest career percentage or I'm sorry per game percentage completion for a while there and then I think it was replaced replaced by who was the Vikings quarterback. That was always broken. I'm drawing a Brian. Sam Bradford Sam Bradford right that he he was replaced by Sam Bradford so this is what's happened in that league. Those guys will complete seventy. Some odd percent of their passes drew brees is damn near eighty percent on completions now the greatest quarterbacks quarterbacks ever in in your mind whoever it is you imagine them to be because Brandon weeden completion percentage was a good deal better than Joe Montana's give us us to God's a partial list of some of the best quarterbacks ever and how the game has changed because even Mahomes mahomes is the modern day equivalent of a gunslinger right hundred percent he completes sixty six percent of his passes. So what are you have their gods in terms of percentages percentages. I have some of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game. Okay this would be on many people's lists of top ten quarterbacks to play Johnny United's fifty fifty four point six percent completion percentage johnny you Roger Staubach fifty seven percent. Dan fouts fifty the eight point eight percent Dan Marino fifty nine point four percent. None of these guys are going to go over sixty percents Joe Nemeth fifty point one percents that was a coin toss doesn't belong in Terry Bradshaw Fifty one point nine percent and then the quarterback that many people people consider to be the greatest of all todd John elway Fifty six point nine percents year Maha. Do you feel about percentage talk on the radio quarterbacks in their percentages adage is because we're talking about what Jameson Cam Newton or doing out there in terms of inefficiency what you're seeing is an evolution of the position a lot more. I safe passes a lot more passes really I. I'm guessing that Steve Young Joe Montana were sort of ahead of their time because the west coast offense was doing this stuff before everyone else I was doing it. They were doing all these short safe passes that were like handoffs and in in the sport today the worst thing you can do you and this is why. Ben Rothlisberger is going to age poorly that and all the beer he's reckless and you can't gunslinger today eh unless maybe you're mahomes but mahomes throwing twelve interceptions last year that's a lot yeah well twelve and a lot even with fifty interceptions and a good quarterback touching touchdowns fifty. I'm sorry yeah fifty touchdowns a good touchdown to interception ratio just to give you the completion percentage of a below average quarterback accu today's. NFL Andy Dalton Sixty two point five percent completion percentage is a cluding sixty nine percent last year that excellence so Mike what is not nice. Is that your obsession here over the last. I don't know twelve hours because a an honor of Cam Newton and Jameis Winston being among the two best college quarterbacks any of us have ever seen. You've got a list there of your top twenty five college quarterbacks ever well. This all started because it's one hundred fiftieth anniversary of college football all these lists that are just huge engagement tweet things that that all these companies are putting out there all these lists are out sports. the sporting news put out a top ten list of the Best College quarterbacks ever and Sammy Baugh number ten now. I don't know about you guys but I don't remember Sammy Baugh T. It's a little bit before my time so I put together a top twenty five quarterbacks. I've seen play college football and man in engagement bonanza. Dan You want to go because that's all that matters and this time and lives is engagement and Selfish Sammy Baugh fifty six point five percents. So what what do you have their Mike you WanNa just do all twenty-five of yes but I I would like to apologize for quarterback set. Just miss this list. Do you have a moment Antwan randle. El Eric Crouch Aaron Murray Mary Matthew Stafford Keenan Reynolds Sam Bradford Court Colt Brennan Colt McCoy Brady Quinn and Carson Palmer Brady Quinn Yeah and Notre Dame brought notre. Dame back is one of the best college quarterbacks. Yeah I've ever seen again my list Brady Kidding Oh. I'm sorry him doing that with Jeff. Some Marga wasn't good enough for you. Yes the Pitcher Jeff. Samardzija was great as a receiver. He was a high draft. Pick is a receiver. He wasn't a high draft. Pick Receiver Dan he went to Major League Baseball who played baseball gamma. Look it up on the would've been a high I draft. He was awesome yeah he was. What were you insulting. Don't hold break pro against a weird choice list. You can put every three single one of his Notre Dame game. I watched a ton. Remember how excited I wasn't two thousand seven so this is something that's bothered me because conquer. Knicks on this list is you'll find out and they're like how many times times did you watch. The Nevada play every frigging week dude all right. I'm an NC double a football video games savant. I put all these names in the roster. I watched every single one of these games as you know why. Because I gamble entertainment purposes only he was a two time finalist for the bullet Nicole Ward it on the poll please at lebatardshow perfect fact Brady Quinn one of the twenty or one of the fifty best college quarterbacks you've ever seen or underachiever because Beano Cook put a lot of pressure on him. Mike predicting he was going to win two straight highs. No that was Ron Paul Lewis. Is that right yeah see I remember on policy and that's like the fringe of the timespan that you're working with right here. Yeah remember these are the ones that I remember and saw. It's moving fast. I was Brady. I'd Ed Hey I remember there in fairness. Mike didn't say he was one of the top twenty five. He said he was one of Mike's top twenty. I didn't say he was in my top twenty five. You guys need to listen and better. I said apologies user guys just made the cut. He's in my top fifty. All right here. We go here certainly doesn't deserve an apology. We go number twenty five air best college quarterbacks Max I've ever seen up. We're at a time. That's too bad. We'll have to do it next. Segment another team of top twenty five college quarterbacks of all time Donlevatar earlier in the show the question was asked what would you do got to do with one invisible dish to God's one day where he could be invisible. We decided that during banking hours you would choose a week day. He would rob all the banks in the universe from eight to five and then he would alter sporting event results being an invisible man in games he had bet on these cases..

"You know I mean I don't even know what to say apparently the NFL plans speak with Brown star Odell Beckham Jr about win. Watch your Sunday's game the flashy fashionable fashionable wide receiver the sport Expensive Watch worth over two hundred and fifty thousand dollars during his debut Sunday with Cleveland which was rolled forty-three the thirteen by the Tennessee titans. It's okay. NFL spokesman Mike's Neuro- said there are no rules prohibiting jury however the League does have have a policy prohibiting hard objects. He said the League will address the matter with Beckham and the Browns who play at New York jets next Monday now browns coach coach kids who said Monday he wasn't aware back win watch during the game quotas long as they are going to enforce that with everyone. I'm fine with it. It's just make sure we get an enforced with everybody all right okay. Some of these dues making news for these reasons man I I did. I got no problem and this is one of the things that I want to say because people have got me about it conforming conforming performing laser gentlemen nobody is saying to conform everything but understand you volunteer to play these leads you WanNa get I paid off the field folks telling you to obey the law on the field. This is rules or regulations that come with every job up you have them. You have them. I have them. What's the problem? I couldn't couldn't agree with Freddie Kitchens of all what he said is as long as their rules that are applicable to everyone was the problem. I tell you what the problem is. We've got a few people in the league that don't want to follow the rules applicable to everybody it ain't that rules are made differently for them is that they won't be different than everybody according in terms of following the rules. I'm not saying Chaz. You'll stephen what's up man Mohan morning Stephen Am calling from Dallas. which was your favorite part of the country anyway Chile? I liked Dallas a lot. No state income taxes in Texas Bro. He is involved meets. I like it was forty. I'm a former veteran military and and I'm watches sports to see all this stuff going on with racism and I wanted to see what you thought about if this same scenario the Stephen A. R. that AB was involved with is that was flipped and if a white athletes would have said there's some to say a black. GM like Ozzie newsome. How would that have played out? We're probably would have gone suspended a number two ooh I brought that up on get up on the show. Get up this morning with Mike Greenberg and crew. I said listen I'm not white. I don't know what crack a means to white people but but I know what the N. Word means the black people come from somebody that ain't plaque now. I know that they are wife folks out there that want to act like all the N. word you know should it be said by anybody and that may be true but they wanna act and use that as an excuse to act like they can say somethin' using that word to black people because black people might use it to each other the from time to time. Oh no the hell you cannot you cannot but I will tell you this. I do think a white person has the right to turn around and if the word cracker coming from a black person is just incendiary to a white person that white person has a right to make annoys about that absolutely absolutely that you have these individuals that are are children are watching them. They're watching their behavior their role models whether they like it or not make shows that that form and when you do things like that they're going. It's going to to go down to to these children that are watching this and think it's okay to act like that. Well wait a minute. Wait a minute. Here's the only part way I do disagree with you. In defense of Antonio Brown I'm in no mood to come to his defense today. It ain't like you went on national TV and said he was at practice in the face of his GM and we me reported that over the national airwaves. It ain't like you said it for you to here Bro. He was in Oakland at practice. It is GM's facing so let's not act like the man went over to NASA waves and disseminated to the masses. No that would be us we did that. That's not him. We have to be fair and just I wanted to get your thoughts on that and I appreciate your input and we gotTa Dallas Jerry before you come back. Let's go ahead and go giants. Go I'm going on my giants. Okay is everything we don't have a defense how y'all in Braille but I didn't see nothing really special with the cowboys we could have scored. If we had a quarterback I I love Eli. He did this thing with three years. AGO would have been happy to hear retied Nah. He's still playing what we would have had any kind of defense we could have scored with them dousing great when I got to say everybody jerseys and hats and they go on to the super bowl super bowl they're going. Oh you got to be ended up in New England. The League said were legal position. WHO teams now I WanNa talk or do you want answers? I got answers for do you want it. The League's position is that it's an individual choice at the end of the day. There's is no evidence that there was any kind of shenanigans a wrongdoing going on with the doing the Patriots. The New England patriots made a choice. You got a guy that clearly didn't might be in a distraction clearly. They're my coming across a selfish as a narcissist and most teams might not want this guy on their team but you as an individual made that choice as a team and since he's was let go and he was an unrestricted free agent. You had their license to grab him. That's what you did is the New England patriots that's who you are. The League can't do anything about that all right. Thanks for talking about data easy. That's just a sample of what you'll hear on. The Stephen Swift show weekdays at.
"booger mcfarland" Discussed on Sports Media with Richard Deitsch
"Though i think the browns are going to be pretty good i think the browser browse first and foremost they have to learn how to win and it's kind of like the example always use you know you've been doing sports media thing for a long time your knowledge and information. He's really really good. But how do you take that and convey that to your audience. You probably started doing it. The first time you probably want as good as you are now. Even no you probably were as counted that then and so you had to learn how to use that talent to convey your message. What have you the same thing. They have all this town now. "booger mcfarland" Discussed on Ross Tucker Football Podcast
"It's amazing. It's like two or three times a week. And I think Tony you've won before. But that's okay. I just love the loyalty. I love the consistency and so you're gonna win again. So let me know. I don't remember what I sent. You last time if there's a new press past you'd like let me know if there's something else the car to the picture, let me know it is a monster Monday edition of the Ross Tucker football podcast. I did have some people guessing on who the big show would be. And they said it was a Monday, and I said, perfect day to have them people said, Peter King, people said, Albert breer? Although if you're listening to this you already know because you've seen it in the title. It's listed everywhere. It is neither one of those guys it is my buddy booger McFarland who is now mister Monday night, a lot to talk about with booger and being the my night football guy. I should mention by the way before I forget bribe I think I mentioned this at some point last week. I wanna give a shout out to the folks at the Pennsylvania motor truck association. I spoke to them up in state college on Saturday. And several of them said they listen, so thank you to people like Gladys and Brandon and Christie and the guys from Jag trucks. Thank you. It was great meeting, you guys. And I appreciate the kind words about the show and that you guys listen very, very cool. Anytime I get chance to meet listeners in person. I love it. So thank you for having me speak to your group that was awesome. And I hope you guys enjoy what I had a chance to do and speak with booger McFarland. It's big Showtime. Well, it is a Monday. So what better day than to have on the now confirmed so low analyst on Monday night football? My good buddy from years on the radio together at Sirius XM booger McFarland booger, thanks as always coming on the show, and -gratulations man. A man, I really, really appreciate it Ross, you know, anytime I can come on and talk football and disagree with you. It's a great day. Yeah. I was gonna ask you, does it make you feel bad at all being the color commentator for Monday night football when you know that I am better than you. And I'm more knowledgeable than are about football. I'm a little bit envious of your knowledge. However, I don't think you're better. You may be smarter. But smarter doesn't always mean better based on our years on the radio that I've learned. No. And all Saturday. Man. I'm I'm thrilled for you. I just want to has it set in yet. And I know you were on Monday night football last year, and in the book room Beal and stuff. But if you ever like, and I know you're living in the moment, have you taken a second to just be like, I am the voice. I am the color commentator for Monday night football. You know, not really I it kinda hit me for a moment rose, our PR department sent out like a list of all the people that have done Monday night football. And I just happened to see it and I go through it, and it just kind of hitting me for a moment all the people that have set in the chairs Joe tests, and, and I and Lisa sit in it's an amazing accomplishment, but I, I definitely look forward to it. And I'm very humble to be thought of, in that manner with all that being said, it's just football man, we're looking forward to talking some football, this fall, as you know, you and I any time we get together, and we're taking these team to target football. You kinda forget where you are because we love the game so much. And that's kind of where I fall in. So use my next question, it's kind of been a rollercoaster for you. I mean you get the job, but then you're doing the booger mobile and there's some critique of. The broadcast primarily with Jason Witten and then Jason goes back to play in football. And then, you know, ESPN doesn't really announce what they're doing. There's rumors they're going after Peyton Manning. Then you get the job. I mean, has it been a roller coaster for you or not? Really?.
Joe Tessa Tori, Booger Mcfarland And Football discussed on Rush Limbaugh
"Football ESPN's, Monday night football return, a two man booth when it kicks off its fiftieth season later this year network announced today, Joe Tessa Tori will be back doing play by play while booger McFarland moves up to the booth after being a field level analyst ESPN also announced. Lisa Saulters will return for an eighth season as the sideline
"booger mcfarland" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
"I will. I got at this hour. Errant? You're you're putting. That is absolutely the stugatz. Cadence that is Stu gods that I can feel the hatred underneath the words, I end how unreasonably as I know that God's I'll know that voice anywhere. It haunts me, you know, your teammate, we complain about everything. I mean, it's a box of animal crackers. Pita, please. I mean, find something better to complain about better use of your time. Please. Okay. Then telling the biscotti change a box of animal crackers because the animals are caged like they would be an zoo. And you want them roaming some grassy land Peter series. There has to be more potent animal issues out there than tackling the animal cracker box. I mean, Syria booger McFarland next donlevatar Tyler with the Rams are doing the Rams have a head football coach who is younger than the child star raven. Stugatz. What are you doing? What are you doing gamma? Why are you making favor? But using a child star raven line herself, her name's raven Simone, and she's getting to the point that you should stop using that. But this is my point that the coach of the Rams is child star. Why are you guys making faces give me a better reference in that Barry more give me no come on, man? True. Berry. Really DCC's libertas show with his two guys on ESPN radio. So we misplaced the gyrate or the Colt who and I imagine booger McFarland is gonna agree with this. But let's figure it out the Colt number ninety six gyrate at one pump two pumps in front of the referee. It's hard to tackle. Yeah. I think he's going to great. It's hard to tackle the chiefs. When you get them on four down or two fourth-down, you you feel happy, maybe sensual and nature Danisco, Autry. And and so he gets flagged and booger mcfarland's reaction as he sees this because the referee he's gyrating and he's writing the referees face and the face. And then he throws the flag up in the air booger McFarland thought what when he saw that. Well, I thought it was a nice celebration. But you have to find a referee. You can't do the the hip Toro slash gyration directly at the real. Because the real probably thought he was directed toward him. So I understand what the flag was far. I it was probably one too many twirler slash pumps. If he did it away from the rip I think he'd have been from. And it wasn't going away. Wait a minute. I it is a good breakdown. But I feel like he wasn't in control of things that that moment that the sensuality was such that he was pointing in all directions and the referee just gotten away. Well, I think he was so happy that they finally got to stop fourth-down making one play that we all his family members could tune is a yeah. Play. And she's kind of lost console for a moment. Too much for the rep day. What is the most embarrassed booger McFarland has ever been on a football field? I was probably in high school. You know, I I was kinda the focal point of the team and the opposing team had a running back that was pretty decent. And he talked me he ran clean over being the first thing that hit the ground was the back of my head. And I as I'm going to the ground, and I heard the entire stadium go. Ooh. That was really embarrassed. When I got up does it haunt your dreams since then? No, the one thing that haunts my dream is actually got kicked out by Tom Brady in the two thousand six championship game. Brady's is not the he's not the greatest athlete as a matter of fact, I think Greg Cody is a better athlete than Tom Brady. But he's he's quite loose. We've been talking to you kinda faked me out. Did you say six? Yeah. It was six when all way to the Super Bowl championship where we beat the bears. And he's super bows guy. Don't you would've known that? If I told you in two thousand six that Brady would still be making AFC championship gave the two thousand eighteen you would have told me..
"booger mcfarland" Discussed on The Russillo Show
"Okay. What's up the russillo show podcast, and we are heading out on the road and that really for the podcast, but I don't know. Actually, I'm not going to be anything, but going to Austin nissanheismanhouse and really understand you guys in the ad police out there on social media. You are kind of the biggest losers going right now when somebody's like, hey, I'm gonna be out for the nissanheismanhouse. I say that because I want you to stop by and say Hello. And the Nissan Heisman house is really, really cool event. Yes, I get paid to host the event, but it hasn't. I don't get paid to tweet about it. I'm gonna pay to do any of that stuff. So when you guys do the hashtag like, hey, what about an ad or sponsorship when anybody's just saying, hey, and yeah, I'm kind of going at you now, but like nobody wants to be your friend. I know I hate you immediately. So enjoy that that you think you're calling out something improving the world by being mad at somebody doesn't hashtag ad. It's not even an ad. Okay. Booger McFarland is gonna be joining us our our new Monday night football star. He was great the opening night, so I wanna get into his thoughts on Gruden a lot of stuff on groom with him. He played. For him and you know, we'll see if he can give us a story like the the good, the bad with Gruden, what's up. Everybody sorta hates Gruden right now. That's kind of a weird thing, right? Everybody would you agree with me right now? Cerruti that after clue, MAC destroys the Packers, at least in the first half and that Packers come back. That Rogers thing is just one of those things you're like, this is ridiculous, but everybody's very anti Gruden. Now it felt, is it true? Yeah, I, I think I'd be in that camp. I don't hate or just all the thing. He said a lot of things in the off season. I was just scratching my head being like this guy sounds like the game sort of pass them by. So if I was a raiders fan, I wouldn't be super pumped about it and then and then the coil mattress happened and then he didn't talk to him. So it's it's a, it's a bunch of things. Yeah, right. I'm not. I'm I don't wanna make it sound like I'm sticking up for. I mean, I've been it's funny because I've been critical of Gruden since he's taken the gig and it's more about how it's all gone down over the years. And some people have been calling me out mostly raiders fans by saying, oh, and now he's not there anymore. I was critical Gruden when he was working with me. Okay. Now, granted, I wasn't like I was running in the. Alway. I'm sure it's because you guys think I was afraid of, but I, I'm not a fan of how Gruden get your money, but I think Gruden took it to such an excessive level of flirting with everybody all the time to keep driving it up and driving the interest and then to re-sign with the SPN and then flirt with Tennessee again when he had no intention of going Tennessee. Yeah, I think there's a line like anything like too often in life. Do we do this deal restart saying, well, hey, it's about getting your money. Yeah, it is. And then there's kind of a line that can be crossed and you know, it's it annoyed me with Gruden. It really did..
Fans, analysts roast Raiders coach Jon Gruden over Khalil Mack trade
"I probably with the rate is I don't understand how you could find one hundred million dollars for Costa heading coached and ten years, and a previous six years. He coached to the NFL had won a playoff game, and it went to the playoffs twice in six years. So that's a sixteen year gap before since the last time he wants something, which was the Super Bowl, of course, but you can't find money for Khalil Mack. I don't understand that thinking, can you explain that to me. I don't quite understand it either. And the reason they gave John grew of money, they did. They ever been starving for something especially like, and you get to the Donut shop and they got one left. You pay a little bit more money, then the sticker price for that doughnut. That's what the rate is where John they tasted a just a little bit of that Gruden magic back when the Chucky dogs came out and he was one of people's fifty most beautiful people. They want that back because the rate is kind of relevant her last year. So they will really pay a little bit more just to be relevant again. Now as for taints Khalil Mack, I don't buy the stories about, hey, we didn't have any money to cash flow. The raiders are one organization, and if the if you got the money to pay Jon Gruden a hundred million dollars, I realized the players are there different structure called a salary cap pyro from a cash flow standpoint. There's only there's only one part of the organization. It's called the Oakland Raiders. So if you've got enough money for the coach, what does it look like to the fan base. More important? What does it look like? The players in the locker room when you can't take care of a guy that you drafted that you raise, he grew up your building and he's developing the one of the best players in the league. And so easily here allow him to get away that says a lot in the locker room. I don't care what they say follow right here. It was a on ESPN radio and ESPN news. What are your thoughts about the Los Angeles Rams? I consider them to be probably the second best team in the NFC. One could argue they're the best now that they've added Dhamma consumed Marcus Peters and keep to leave. Everybody's been talking about the raiders and Jon Gruden. It wouldn't shock me at all. If the Rams blew them out tonight, I'm hoping that's not the case, but it wouldn't surprise me if it
Jets: Teddy Bridgewater trade possible as Sam Darnold impresses
