Eighty nine yard five your carry. It was fine. I mean they were they were. They were fine. They were ok. I had the oklahoma martaban ban going ahead playing boomer sooner that going a little bit about the mediocrity that has been the oklahoma football program so everything came about next to you know i looked up and was like wow how about fifty something minutes into the segment. Hoops my bet. So let me go ahead and get started on this bad boy. Speaking about the game of the week in college. Football this past Saturday the alabama crimson tide holding all against florida. Thirty one to twenty nine first real test of the new era of alabama football stars all americans future. First round draft picks heisman trophy candidates. The tide you gotta let me back up. Let me ask you a question man because you know what your answer is going to be when it was twenty one to three at the end of the first quarter you had to say. Come on man games over. Did you even watch. That wasn't a situation where he turned the game off. You went and did some things that you turn to watch another game that you thought would be more competitive or is what. You're good time to say okay. This is what was going to do so no need for me to stick around and see a game. That's gonna probably end up being forty four to ten or forty nine to forty nine to six or some bullshit like that to let me go ahead and do something nelson. Either you turn back and you said wait a minute. The score is what or is later on in a day. You're looking at another game and you saw the score. And you're like what thirty one twenty nine ma'am. If you take highlight of the game if you take a look at some of the Plays the positive plays. That florida had the way they were marching the ball up and down the field. I mean florida went on a ninety nine yard scoring drive touchdown drive against alabama of the last time that happened and we were up here and i was up here talking about how great this defense alabama was before the florida game. I was speaking about how this could be wanted. The best defensive teams that nick sabin never had and not just me but the pundits and everybody who knew alabama football and who knew college football and who study college football and who does college football for living in we're all saying how great and awesome this alabama defense was well. Hey man gaming and florida there were plenty of sloppy. Miss tackle throughout the game by alabama was surprising absolutely surprising. They look like ohio state out there. As far as the missed tackles as far as the lack of fundamentals. That was happening nick. Sabin after the game set that the team started to wear down and that is a product of the offensive line for florida. Just manhandling them and having a strong running beat game to run the ball down their throats if you take away the first quarter florida with the best team on that field. Florida control the majority of the game at the metro before the first quarter they had four hundred forty total yards compared to three thirty one for alabama. They ran for two hundred and forty five yards. That's almost six yards per carry in alabama rush for only ninety five yards of the team in average three yard per carry. Normally at the other way around. Brian robinson really couldn't get going. He seemed to suffer minor injury. They might not be playing the best but they found a way to win a thought alabama. Kelly kicked it in the cruise control especially the offense when the score got to be twenty one to three. You take a look at the second. I think alabama only had something like ten or fifteen yards for the entire quarter when florida started making a comeback as florida started to sustain their down down dumb their dominance among the offensive and defensive front and like i said i thought was going to be another route when it became twenty three to twenty one to three so florida like a team. That's going to be able to compete. Florida looks like a team. We're speaking about who's gonna be a worthy opponent to alabama and we keep coming up with georgia because their defense but a man that cocktail party. There's going gonna be happening in jacksonville on thirty between florida and georgia. There's gonna be some serious ramifications about that one. I mean this could be a situation where this could be a playoff game. Almost if florida loses this game to georgia basically they're out of the playoff hunt they'll have two losses and if they beat georgia then that will put them. Maybe in the driver's seat in the sec. East to go ahead and play alabama in the sec. Championship with court the winner vying for a spot in the college football semi-final sell this is going to be an interesting game. Moving forward this is going to be an interesting season moving forward for both georgia. Florida and alabama for alabama on the other side. Defense defense defense defense. In with bryce young those guys and so many young players on both sides of the football for alabama. I don't know the answer is ridiculous. In terms of the statement. I was gonna make saying. I don't know alabama offensively can compete anywhere close to the type of efficient efficiency dominance that the team from last year Put on a consistent basis from the offensive side of the ball. The answer of course is gonna be no. That was an all time great team. So if the defense for alabama's gonna play the same way that they play in florida and look the alabama's the schedule for the rest of the season. Royden have too many florida's and georgia's of the caliber. Now they're gonna play. Mississippi team with lane kevin who can put a lot of points on the board. They're gonna play a team. In washington. State in mike leach. Who's going to throw a lot of abstract and a lot of a funky offense of us situations adams so that should be interesting deal but just in terms of dominance is concern along the offensive and defensive side of the football along those offensive and defensive lines. I think alabama should have the advantage on that situation so it comes down to you know kinley kiffin and might leach in some other teams that they're going to be playing. Can they out scheme Say been in the alabama football team in terms of what they're going to be down. Don't think that any of those teams that they're going to be playing. It's going to have the defense to stop bill. O'brien and bryce young that alabama offense enough for them not to put up thirty five forty two forty nine points a game but You know just looking down the road. So i think that the overreaction toward alabama you know getting a game or being in the game so close against an opponent like florida. I think that's being. I think being overblown there's going to be far few between the number of teams that alabama's gonna play. That's gonna give florida. That's gonna give them the type of game. The florida did end in the interim. The only thing that's gonna be happening with alabama both on offense and defense at the fact that they are gonna get better nick sabin of course being one of the greatest coaches in college football history along with one of the greatest coaches in college. Athletics period. Will make sure that those guys will get better on both sides of the ball. How much more kin alabama improve. Well we talked about parody in college football. Well how much is it. Going to really mean in terms of alabama. Getting better on defense. what are we talking about. What do we mean when we say alabama needs to get better on defense. Are we going to be asking them to become dominant. That going to be what the task is gonna be. What the situation's going to call four or because of the offense getting better because of what brice young is doing because of the weapons that they have on offense from the running back and wide receiver position time going on in the season. Those guys are really getting better and better and better is situation where look man if alabama on defense can just clean up. Some of the sloppy tackling can work on the fundamentals. Nestle have not have so many missed tackles that they'll be fine because the offense for the most part is going to average anywhere between thirty one and forty five points a game so we're not going to ask the defense to be george alike. Were not going to add the crimson tide defense to be clemson like because of how efficient and how dangerous in how potent their offenses so moving forward. Those are the type of things that are going to be in place for alabama but it was a good game. It was an exciting game. It was a competitive game and it was a game. I think that Nick sabin is going to use as an advantage in terms of say. Hey ma'am you know we might be alabama we might have a history dominance especially in the last couple of years but You know you guys eight matt jones. You guys ain't bouncer smith. You guys aim to a tunnel by lower. You guys eight jalen hurts you guys. Eight ninety hairs. You guys. Eight landon dickinson. You guys in patrick. 'certain you guys. Aren't that group of a players. Yet that walked on field new. The philosophy knew what was going on was comfortable. What mature what they trying to do with the objectives. Were how i operate took statement. How the defense coordinator operates. How the defensive line coach cooperates how the quarterback coach in running back coach and the offensive coordinator that chemistry that relationship that those other teams built years a working on and building so they could get to that level of dominance. We're not there yet. Because basically this group that playing and the expectations of a responsibility that they have. We've only done this for three games though for us to come out there and expect we're supposed to pick up exactly where we left off from last season with a whole new bunch of players because you guys are a bunch of five dollars and you were all. Everything's interstate in the region in your town in your province in your school district or whatever. That's not going to be happening just yet. You gotta talented. You guys are the best of the best. You guys are coming to alabama. You guys came for alabama. We want you at this program. We want you went program for a reason but it's not going to happen overnight. It's going to take discipline is gonna take maturity is gonna take all of those things to get where you want to go and we're not there yet but again. The situation of what happened against florida will expedite the program for alabama this year. "Good teams put up a lot of points and particularly some non power teams putting it to some power conference teams. Jake haters in washington transfer Playing quarterback for fresno state through three games. He's got more than a thousand yards and eleven total touchdowns. I just love watching this business. Offense go to work and ucla last year. There are secondary was better than it had been the year before in twenty nineteen. They were downright nightmare gave up. I believe more than thirty touchdowns with five interceptions just absolutely miserable that year and they were a little bit better last year but had some bad games to to end the year As far as efficiency goes to get some takeaways. And that's important. And i think those takeaways are really going to determine this game. The latest line i saw on this was around eleven in. Ucla's favor. and i think i would. I'd be looking pretty strongly at fresno state covering that. I do think. Ucla's offense has looked Very good this year very fun with dtra dorian thompson robinson But i do think fresno state's gonna keep this game close or at the worst they're gonna score late and just make sure. Ucla has to play a full sixty minutes to get that. When i'm with you. I this screams trap game to me. This is getting all hype. And you're got a road trip to stanford coming up the next game and then arizona state arizona washington oregon that four game stretch. It's going to be huge and then at utah. After that. But i think fresno may put a big scare and ucla this coming weekend. I it's a late game so we have time to wait and watch how the day goes put. I'm with you. i think that. I mean it's it's two lanes suddenly becomes a little more interesting than i think we Wanted to think it would be but ultimately The alabama game is going to be a featured attraction big game and everyone knows what happened last year. I think that tennessee game is really big to th. They can get out of there with a win. They can really handle the first half the season. There's no way you can handicap and lsu game right now. The calendars turned to mid august. We are ready to go Football season's right around the corner. So i know there's a lot of plays you like a little bit off the grid but i want to start the marquee ones and it's the one that's my favorite of a mall and i've talked about it a few times on daily wager. I believe i've even mentioned it here on the podcast but i am very very big on auburn under seven now the juices move some shops or six and a half. If you want to go six plus money that's fine. It's just so tough when you get the push at seven so i prefer the seven with the juice and it all comes down to the schedule. Not the only reason but the schedules really really difficult. And you've got bama. You got an got georgia. I don't think there's any chance auburn win those games. I know rivalry game and war eagle and all that stuff with the with the iron bowl but it's just auburn is rebuilding. And they have a new coach bryan. Hartson coming in from boise. State and bonex is just not materialize into the quarterback that everyone thought he would be. Maybe a new oc. Mike bobo will unlock. I'll just kind of have to see it to believe it. So in addition to obama. Georgia am there at lsu. They have all miss at home. You know at arkansas. And then there's there's this tough spots here and it's a team that's going to be lacking on offense defense. They're calling card. So i think i don't see how they go eight and four to lose this play. Well i i would definitely recommend Playing the seven laying the juice in this situation. I almost always gonna lay the juice versus taking maybe plus one ten plus one twenty on the under. It's definitely worth the extra half a game. I'm actually high on auburn this year. However i completely agree with you. The schedule is brutal. There's just no breeders for them. I think bonex. Could you know have an improvement. This year they can play well. It's just there's just not enough wings on the schedule. It really looks like they're ceiling is seven. It's just you know when you like. You said when you go to texas. And i'm looking headlines there between four and a half and seven and a half point underdogs So they can exceed expectations and still not go over this win total. Yeah no. it's a lot to ask. Well but notre dame under nine talk about not soft spots on the schedule that that's certainly stands out where you'll get the irish yet. The with them again is scheduled schedule. Schedule you know. I know there are top ten ranked team coming into the season but it is just absolutely unforgiving. Weakened weak outs starting at florida state where they opened about ten and a half eleven point favorites. It's down to seven and a half eight. That's not gonna be an easy task. Going into dough campbell on a standalone game in a national televised audience. Week one with a new quarterback Jet cohn was name started earlier this week. With up and down. Wisconsin played well and times. But we'll we'll have to see how he jumped there Notre dame is starting four new offensive lineman. They returned to starters on offense. It's it's a little early in the season For that type of test. So not only would. The nc double a. and its institutions must adjust to this fundamental shift in a business model that has for so long denied even the smallest amounts of cash to the players at the heart of this multibillion dollar industry. It's a very specific question. I was not. I am not yet used to the idea of auburn quarterback bonex being pitch man for a birmingham based sweet tea company. I've found it extremely disorienting. It is very very weird to go from zero to a billion in terms of athletes being able to market themselves. And make money and one general comment. And then some specifics. It's just amazing. How badly the botched this how the. Ncaa had a lot of time. And then less time and then no time to pass comprehensive name image and likeness rules. And they just didn't do it and all of these different states. We're not used to state legislatures being at all functional. And somehow they were able to do it. And all these different rules are in place. And it's a patchwork but it seems to be working for a lot of athletes and so it's just example number eight hundred seventy three of the. Ncaa's ineffectual nece and it's definitely making its strong argument for why it should not exist. But then onto the specifics. It's just really fascinating experiment in like real time. Capitalism just showing which athletes are capitalizing. How they're capitalizing. Espn had a good rundown of the different types of deals that are being made. A lot of them are like cameo style thing some literally on cameo someone similar services where athletes can just like record video messages. Do chats talk on social media with fans a lot of athletes or selling their own apparel. There's an app called. Yoke where athletes can play video games with fans arkansas receiver as partnering with with petsmart. His dog is also partnering with petsmart but stefan there a couple of examples and the story that are not at all like those. There's florida state. Offensive lineman dylan gibbons announced. There's going to be plenty of work for lawyers and compliance officers and business advisors in the next few months and years and we are certainly going to be heading toward new forms of rules. So it's going to take credit for changing things that it forever refused to change and then it's going to try to weigh in on how these rules are implemented. But how could he do that. Yeah they totally missed the boat but there will be attempts to put some order here whether that's leaning on individual universities to impose certain forms of control over. Denial rights are already are rules in place. Now with this patchwork of state legislation. I think twenty four states now have adopted laws but also school by school. Byu a religious institution is putting rules in place on what kinds of things athletes can't endorse alcohol tobacco etc pornography not that any athletes should be endorsing pornography. Do you think that this like wild west first week is going to be an outlier when we look back a year five years or ten years from now or is it only going to expand from here. What do you think well. I definitely think that things are going to change in significantly. So because i think reading about this over and over again to one thing that we that that keeps coming up is that marketers compliance officials. Everybody else nobody actually knows what college athletes a worth and an open market like this and so that is still to be determined. We don't know of petsmart. Cane's which is okay the chicken finger but not that great but we don't know what that actually is going to mean. Presumably it will have some benefits for the company in for the athlete. But we don't know term. And i think they're still trying to figure out how to sort that out down the road but i think we're sort of talking around loose and it's because it's uncomfortable but like we know that this is going to be a boon for conventionally attractive white female college athletes like they're going to be the ones that seem poised to benefit the most out of this and that's why i feel like although this is really cool and i like the idea of bowed nick selling sweet tea to people this does not make up for the fact that the nc double a. and its institutions are not paying what they owe the athletes. These rights these denial rights should have never been denied. It's a farce and it's immoral that they were denied these rights in the first place. But it still doesn't address the fundamental equity that the players that generate this hundreds of millions of dollars for these institutions are still not getting a piece of it the colleges they think of it in terms of compliance. They can throw more money at it. They can just oh. Compliance officers will help navigate. The rules will help make that up because they are part of the ncwa but they didn't cut a check. And that's what. I think people for people that see the nc double a. As a civil rights issue. That's the missing piece here. They're like we can really cool about like these companies coming in and trying to find ways to make these athletes pitchman but does it has nothing to do with these. Athletes are actually old in total. You know i think. That's an excellent point.
