Australian coal exports reportedly banned by China

"Chinese state. Media is reporting today. That china has made official severe restrictions on the import of coal leaving hundreds of millions of tons of the stuff parked haplessly off the chinese coast in ships. That won't be talking. It is a severe and clearly symbolic expression of china's accelerating annoyance with australia. The two countries had long been profitably bound by china's fullness of australia's mineral resources the current episode of monocle. Twenty fours the foreign desk takes a broader look at the china. Australia spat in it. I speak to former australian. Prime minister and former australian diplomat to china kevin rudd. I began by asking him. Just how bad things are got most of us who have been but analysts said -ticipant in its relationship of the last several decades would site that in the near fifty year period since diplomatic relations were established in nineteen seventy two. This is the worst stage that the relationship is raised beds against all measures political diplomatic economic security human rights united. It's all gone right down. The too many contributing factors to this but indirect to question. It's a fifty year low. I think the way to analyze what's unfolding in. The of china relationship is to see it in terms of the normal outworkings all a great cow on the rise in this case but abnormally in this case the rise of a pow which is a one party state with an authoritarian political system. Fewing somewhat mckendall is taken on ole sees as well as seeking to adjust boundaries with its nighters maritime and land by his boundaries that is part of the reality but it does impact not just a straight but other american allies like japan the republic of korea in south southeast asia those in central asia even the russian federation bubble miata hand. What you've had is. An australian government said somewhat incapable differentiating between what i would describe as the operational characteristics of effective china's strategy and confusing that deliberately or otherwise on a continuing basis with a declaratory strategy which ends up being driven by domestic political imperatives. So it is. In fact the call these factors. In imprecise kerr relation with each other which actually produces the net result and frankly. It's an ungodly miss. The time for circuit breaker has well and truly come to prison. The mood for such circuit breaker has not yet arrived. But if you are not just necessarily this australian government but an australian government is there no grounds at all for concern about sinister designs. China may have on australia at this point. In recent months and years we've seen detention of australian journalists in china. There's been varies. Influence peddling scandals strode in michael burgess the director general of aco claims. The key point here is what we conclude domestically in australia as constituting real threats to try national security by giving janis actions whether it's in state basis cyber cyber-attacks influence operations against his train. Politicians will the media or other such activities in dealing effectively. With each of those challenges it is not necessarily mandated that she didn't take out a mega fan every second day and proclaimed that from the rooftops is the constant differential i seek to explain between an operational strategy as opposed to a declaratory strategy. Some On The Right See 17-Year-Old Charged With Killing 2 Kenosha Protesters As Hero

"Riton House, the 17 year old charged with killing two protesters in Kenosha, Wisconsin, goes before a judge tomorrow for a preliminary hearing. Rittenhouse has become a hero to some on the right. Sean Johnson of Wisconsin public radio reports on those pushing that narrative. After Kenosha police shot Jacob Lake, a black man in the back multiple times. The city erupted into protest on August 25th Kyle Rittenhouse made the 20 mile trip to Kenosha from his home in Antioch, Illinois. Rittenhouse, a lifeguard and a vocal supporter of police said he was there to protect the local business and offer medical help if needed. He walked through the crowds that night with an air 15 rifle strapped to his chest. What happened that night is disputed and will eventually be hashed out in court. But a full scale public relations blitz is underway by some of written houses supporters. A group called the Fightback Foundation released a dramatic video compilation of cellphone footage from the night of the shootings. It claims Riton House fired his gun on Lee after being chased and attacked. Narrator speaks of Rittenhouse being sacrificed by politicians. But it's not Kyle Riton house there after their end game is to strip away the constitutional right of all citizens. To defend our communities, our personal property. Our lives and the lives of our loved ones written houses cause got the attention of conservative media figures. Here's former Florida attorney general Pam Bondi, on Fox News. What's it coming, too? In these liberal cities? When teenagers have to go out there to try to provide aid? The Fightback Foundation says it's raised almost $2 million for Riton House. The group's chairman, is Linwood, a prominent attorney who made a name for himself representing Richard Jewell in the 1996 Olympic bombing case. Longtime Wisconsin defense lawyer Dean Strang, who is not involved in this case, says the teens, attorneys may well argue self defence, but it has nothing to do in the first instance with being the hero. It has everything to do with whether you will be held responsible for killing other people or you want. Kyle Rittenhouse is charged with first degree reckless homicide in the death of 36 year old Joseph Rosenbaum and first degree intentional homicide in the death of 26 year old Anthony Huber. Huber. Surviving partner, Hannah Giddings is among a group of plaintiffs who this week filed a civil lawsuit against Riton House and a Kenosha militia group in a YouTube clip. She talks about Hubert. He did not deserve that. He was a Good human Being. The plaintiffs are also suing Facebook for publicizing the militia groups call to arms. John Pearce has written houses lead attorney. He told the conservative news site Breitbart that his client had a god given right to be in the city that night. But I will tell you There's no doubt about this. That is, every law abiding Americans showed up in the city that they love. There are 15 The chaos would stuff immediately. Aside from the Rittenhouse case, it does appear more people are embracing violence as a solution. In 2020, University of Arizona sociology professor Jennifer Carlson researchers gun politics, She says she's noticed the difference this year. Rather than solving problems at the ballot box, she says. Some are reaching for a box of bullets. People are beginning to really think that we have reached the point of no return with regard to violence and whether we have or not. If people believe that we have that is very troubling. US Senate rejects witnesses in impeachment trial.

"I'm Anthony Davis The US Senate narrowly rejected democratic demands to summon witnesses for Donald Trump's impeachment trial yesterday all but ensuring trump's acquittal fill in just the third such trial to face a president in US history but senators considered pushing off final voting on his fate to next week the votes on allowing new witnesses was defeated. Fifty one forty nine on a near Party line vote. Republican Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of UTAH. voted along with the Democrats witnesses. But that was not enough despite the Democrats singular focus on hearing you testimony. The Republican majority brush. Pass those demands to make this the first impeachment trial without witnesses even new revelations from former National Security Adviser John Bolton did not not swayed. Gop Senators who said they'd had enough that means the eventual outcome for trump will be an acquittal in name only said Representative Val demings Cummings House prosecuted during the final debate. Some called it a cover-up Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer Cold Friday nights results at tragedy tragedy on a very large scale protests chance reverberated against the walls of the capital left Parnassus attorney pendle letter to Senate Senate Majority Leader Mitch. McConnell, Romney vie for influence over Trump's trial

"Just yesterday. Yesterday we talked about how Pam Bondi one of Donald Trump's defense lawyers is corrupt herself and she goes out there on the Senate floor and goes after after the Biden's for corruption when she took twenty five thousand dollars from the trump foundation and is now representing trump but more importantly dropped the investigation instigation into trump university Luckily they didn't drop that investigation in New York and trump ended up having to pay twenty two million dollar settlement because he defrauded students But this is this is what we're dealing with right. So whenever the media pretends like both sides are equal. It's infuriating because you have one side. That is not family lying to the American people but helping cover up Donald Trump's criminal activity in the White House so let's move on to some real corruption when it comes to this impeachment process new reporting indicates that Donald Trump's lawyers have given thousands of of dollars to Mitch McConnell who is obviously overseeing the Senate impeachment trial now. It seems as though there might be a conflict of interest there but we live in a country where I heard this type of bribery is legal. And so you end up with senators who don't serve the best interests of the country. They will sell the country out in order to maintain their your cozy little relationship with their donors. So let me give you the details of what's going on former independent counsel Ken Starr and Robert Ray who both investigated former president. The Bill Clinton ahead of his impeachment contributed thousands of dollars to Senate Majority Leader Mitch. McConnell last year before they joined the president's team so Star Star actually gave him twenty eight hundred dollars in July of last year and Ray gave him a fifty six hundred dollars in September of last year and and that's according to the Center for Responsive Politics which is trying to shed some light on what's going on some of the corrupt influences in the Senate impeachment trial in fact Senator Mitch McConnell was notoriously. Said this and he was very open and honest about it during a cable news appearance. Let's take a look everything I do during this yes I'm coordinating. With White House counsel there will be no difference between the president's position our position as to how to handle this. But we'll be working through through this process. Hopefully a fairly short period of time in total coordination with the White House counsel's office and the people who are representing the president in the Oil Senegal Exactly how we go forward. I'm going to coordinate with the president's lawyers so they won't be any difference between us on how to do this again. I'M GONNA take my cues from the from the presence lawyers. I'M GONNA take my cues from the president's lawyers because the president's lawyers have donated to my campaign and GotTa look out for their best insurance. Go Go ahead and sell the country out. It's this is this is this is our democracy.

"And former independent counsel Kenneth Starr are among the team that are going to join president trump who else is on this team and what is the selection of this team what kind of signals is that sending about how the trump administration wants to defend itself among the others who were on the team we have Robert ray who took over for Ken Starr and actually wrote the report on the Clinton impeachment out and particularly about the affair with Monica Lewinsky who's had some reaction today on Twitter and we also have Pam Bondi who's been working for the White House as a communications person she is the former Attorney General of Florida she is actually a lawyer of course and she is going to be participating as well and several other people who have a lot of experience here including Jay Sekulow who has long been a trump lawyer and has been associated with many to conservative causes and is also frequently seen on fox as are all the other people that we have just mentioned so this is really a a a fox oriented team and a very real sense the president is presenting not only a legal defense against impeachment in the Senate he is also presenting a defense in the court of public opinion with a very strong emphasis on public opinion among

"First democrat, to win the office of Florida attorney general and over twenty years this November here to discuss how he, plans to return the office back to the people Sean, Shah so Sean, let's let's just start with why why are you running for attorney. General what is it that. You, think that you can bring to this position I mean obviously has been almost couple of decades since we've had a. Democrat in the attorney general's. Position in Florida and I know that Pam Bondi is term limiting out so there's a there's an opportunity here that maybe hasn't. Been here in a longtime why attorney general of Florida. Listen it's the best office in Florida I think it's, better than governor's office it's better. Than the US Senate is the office? Where you're running to be the lawyer for the state of Florida and? We need, to return that office to the people know it's been since two thousand and two that we've had a, democrat in there and that was Bob Butterworth and this, office as I, told you is the office that can best serve the people best. Protect the people with the. Least, amount of kind of bureaucratic interference No I don't have to run anything up the flagpole I don't have to. Ask the governor's permission to do something I don't have to get a. Senate sponsor to, do something I. Can really run as an independent watchdog and. Do whatever I think I need to do to protect the interests of not only the citizens, of the state of Florida but of the United States has just an amazing office with a lot of, tools to help the people, I would argue to you we just have not seen the office, used, as it could have been used this office has been used to be the general counsel to. The governor that's really our it's been, treated I don't intend to run it like. That we intend to be an active proactive office? That will be an independent watchdog for the people and I'm really. There to make sure everyone is held accountable under the law no matter who you are no matter where you are, no matter what party you are and we're going to protect the I'm we're going to be loud and we're going to be in your, face and active about it that's what I. Intend to be Sean break it down for me a little bit I mean that I know the attorney general right and there's there's the and Assessment of this position is one that I, think that definitely resonates with me I've been told by by folks running for attorney generals that the job is it's one of those. Jobs where really is what you decide to make it in that position and. Florida of course is a major state it has it's not quite California. Or New York, in terms of. Policies that are set there and but we'll. We'll have implications throughout the entire country could be you could be right and so let me, ask you this I mean break it down for me here in terms of like what you would do, in the state that would, have implications in the state and why you would do in the, state, that would have implications for the rest of the country and also with a with a special. Emphasis on the fact that we have, a Republican administration a Donald Trump administration so. There's a lot of potential agreed you stuff that's? Happening there, that wouldn't otherwise Happening they're great great questions. I'm going, to answer, the second one I and talk. About some of the national stuff when the president was first elected and he and his, administration instituted a Muslim travel ban it was not. Congress was not politicians all of. A sudden grew a spine it was. Attorney generals, around this country who joined in a lawsuit to sue the administration and got that policy stopped the attorney general's of Maryland and DC are currently suing the president for alleged violations of the emoluments clause and emoluments clause is a clause. Prevents the president from personally profiting from the presidency here in Florida mean around the country but, particularly in homestead Florida. We had a situation where these detention center ice policies were putting kids in cages And we went. Down there and did a press conference and try to get access and we're not allowed access but what I. Did say is that I would be one of the attorney general's around the country who would have joined. Together with other attorney generals to sue the administration and I mean there's issues, like Cambridge Analytica and privacy and Facebook and there's. Just a, myriad of. EPA issues and environmental issues that attorney. Generals around this country band together NFL change I'm going to give you one guess as to what state is never on those lists it's. Florida right you're. Never on those lists. Of attorneys general around the country who. Are actively trying to take on people that are doing wrong and actively trying to protect the citizens against bad actors what lists we have been on our the list to fight ObamaCare and the list of fight against marriage. Equality that's kind of what Pam Bondi has spent a lot of her time on in terms of national issues I probably. Don't have to tell, me. Tell you much more than to say I disagree with her on almost ninety five Percent of her policy issues we're going to be an office that is aggressive not only on state issues but federal issues I think. That's what the office requires and quite frankly in an office like, Florida's what it demands let's talk about some state issues let's move state issues and just a second because, you know. One of the things as you're listening that off I would imagine had there been a. Democrat in, the? Attorney general's office in the state of, Florida when we were talking about the the different implications of the financial crisis and the behavior of lenders and mortgage companies that the Florida attorney. General could be a leader in that type of advocacy and that type of litigation should be not only could. We be leader we should be a leader I'm sitting here in Pensacola right now who's beaches were covered. In oil with the BP oil spill happened and our attorney general here in, Florida Pam Bondi essentially wait until the very The last minute and settle for pennies on the dollar when the state could have gotten much more resources much more money from. BP if we'd, been aggressive about it Then the mortgage crisis this is ground zero Florida was ground zero for the mortgage crisis and we essentially abdicated our role to New York New York took, on the leadership. In that on that issue and got a lot. Of money as a result. Of it and get a lot of help for their consumers and citizens and we didn't we're not. On the front line of these issues Florida doesn't. Like to lead Florida doesn't like to go after big bag actors and that's going to change when I get elected that is what we're going to be known for. That's what kind of, office I intend to, run an active proactive office that's going to hold everyone accountable and going to, make sure that everyone is. Following the law and if you're not and you're harming Floridians you're going to hear from us if you're doing well and you're doing right you won't hear from us but those companies and those entities that are handling everything in the right way are, gonna love an attorney general who's going after the bad actors I'm talking to Sean shy he's running. For Florida attorney general's, office and Sean we'll, just have about about thirty seconds left here we're going to take a break, and when we come back. I want you to go through some of those things that may be unique to Florida in terms of what you can do with statewide implications And I imagine some of those are going to. Transfer to other states and people get just a sense of what the. Attorney general's position is all about I also wanna talk to you about, the opioid lawsuits this is obviously a major topic across the, country and we have various different of. Of strategies, and tactics that are being used to hold opioid manufacturers and distributors to account I. Want to get your. Take on that, when we return as well. And I want to. Hear more about your your. Biography and your experience because I think the particularly. Your history as a consumer advocate a hugely important. For citizens of Florida but again this is the same dynamic, that people should be having with their own attorney general's we get quick break I'm Sam cedar this ring of fire radio we'll be right back Hey folks Mike Pap Antonio's. "It sarah huckabee sanders it's pam bondi they're attacking women they're literally steak saying go to their houses confront them surround them what are they think's going to happen here what do you expect is going to happen you know pam bondi boyfriend he absolutely did the disciplined and right thing most people are not going to be that disciplined if you call the girlfriend abi word they're not and they're gonna punch you in the face heart and you're gonna deserve all of it for being such a jackass except that would be advocating violence so in this society i would never ever recommend anybody doing that but they do it to public figures in particular because they know and i'm sure pam discussed with a boyfriend a million times don't ever fight back if you do on the attorney general probably after arrest you so what are you going to do that they know they've got a captive audience in their hands are tied and it's not easy to take verbal assault when people are purposely trying to provoke a fight they want you to fight look what a part of my trading and it's hard and i train an hour fifteen minutes day our half a day we do all situational training and it's like if somebody sticks to finger in my face that's a hostile action and i'm gonna say get your finger out of my face and if you touch me i'm gonna break your finger off i mean you say to him and you know what i can do it what do you do with the guy that can't fight off the people don't want to spend their their days in there mornings you know getting punched in hitting bags and and doing core building like i do was funny we actually aired last week was like five years ago a tape of me five years ago and i i had no muscle tone i i mean doing this every day his transformed me until you know a real fighter and we box and we do a coward krav maga campo and jujitsu and that's what i train every day with a guy that is one of the toughest meanest sense as i think that ever existed friday was pain day last friday means he literally punches me as hard as he can in the stomach till i drop then i put out my arms and he just bangs on pam bam bam that's what we do how we roll here's the problem most people don't like confrontation most people don't you know if you're surrounded by four people that are big and they're taunting you and cursing at you it's not easy motionlessly for a lot of people to handle that so they're going after women where's this going to end it's gonna end would some violence against some public figure some place somewhere and then we'll remember maxine waters and cory booker suggesting that people show up at restaurants and gas stations and their home's going to go after somebody's home are their children in the house are they're old people in the house i thought you liberals had monopoly of compassion i thought you were the peaceful once i thought you believed in peace but what's happening is the underbelly of their hatred is now being exposed and they thought that robert mueller was gonna pull it off they thought that there was a big blue wave coming so we weren't hearing any of this they they they never thought the economy would turn this positive this quickly and five hundred days you know you'd think they'd be happy for america we have more jobs in america than we have people on unemployment we have record low unemployment in fourteen states you'd think they'd be happy record low they claim to have a monopoly compassion for black america spanich americans and and women they have record low unemployment numbers for all three of those demographic groups little rocket man is stopping is anti american appear realist you know shows that he puts on every year because it looks like little rocket man wants a deal and it looks like having already dismantled one of his nuclear test sites identified other sites that he had not revealed before giving back american hostages stop fiery missiles over japan and destabilizing the entire korean peninsula and agreeing to the terms of what potentially is the total denuclearization of the korean peninsula so good news democrats have four agenda items one they want to impeach trump but.
