Trump wants Fox News journalist fired over reports on his alleged U.S. troops insults

"Was also the host of CNN's Reliable sources. Program joins us to talk about what you uncovered about the evolution and impact of the Trump Fox partnership. But first we're going to get his take on some of today's political news and welcome Brian Stelter. Good to have you with us. Hey, great. Grateful to be here. Thank you so much. I'd like to begin by talking about the article by Jeffrey Goldberg, the editor in chief of Atlantic whom you had on your program on CNN's reliable sources, just on Sunday. And just for some background for listeners who may not know about this. Trump is alleged to have called those who died in World War one losers and suckers. They were buried in a cemetery outside of Paris and supposedly Again. Allegedly. He didn't want to honor the dead for fear his hair would be messed up. Jennifer Griffin of Fox News has backed up the story and confirmed it in the White House is denied it. They've given the title of your book called it a Hoax. And Trump said it never happened, but I want to get to here is Trump wants girlfriend fired, he said. Fox News is gone. This is maybe change the relationship with Fox. First of all your thoughts about that, but also About what Goldberg told you, Which is this is just the tip of the iceberg. I do expect more reporting in the coming days, including quite possibly from Bob Woodward's book. I Hate to start out talking about some other author. But I'll tell you what. There's a lot of anticipation for Woodward's book Rage, which comes out next Tuesday. And I think one of the reasons why Jeffrey Goldberg published his story when he did. Was perhaps because he thinks what word has some similar reporting. So look, we will see we will find out when that book begins to leak, But I think that the Atlantic and other outlets Have Provided Mohr evidence of a pattern of the president, disparaging veterans and disrespecting the military. Some of this is in the president's own words, including yesterday. When he comments on people at the top of the military just wanting to start wars. Making basically calling them or profiteers. No, I think what the president has done by attacking Fox on this story. By saying reported over Griffin should be fired because she was able to corroborate part of Jeffrey Goldberg report. Is that he's working the refs. He doesn't want news on Fox News. He only wants propaganda. So one minute he will attack a reporter at Fox or complain about Anchorage, Fox, and the next minute he will promote Pete Hegseth, Jeannine Pirro. I'll call into Sean Hannity show her fox and friends. It shows that he doesn't want journalism on the air. He wants pro trump opinion in orderto keep his base is solid as a rock. Well, he's going against Ah, much respected reporter here who has had a great deal of praise for her integrity on the fact that matter is Fox kind of threw her under the bus, didn't they? I think Fox did not sufficiently. Promote and tout its own reporting. So once Griffin had corroboration for some of Goldberg's account, she did go on the air once and talk about it. A couple other shows, acknowledged it. But the dominant theme of the coverage was still trumps denials. And I would understand that they'd emphasize the denials. The president was known to be a proud on his truth Teller, someone who never told a lie. But this president has proven that his words are meaningless. By his own actions. He's country to himself all the time and lied to the public constantly about the pandemic and other matters. Soto lead with the president's denial seems faulty to me. Especially when your own reporter from your own outlet. Has backed up some of the reporting. But again, this just shows the tug of war between Fox and inside Fox between news and opinions, and I think it shows that opinions almost always winning. Well, let's talk, though, about what has come out of this controversy, which is the whole validity of unnamed sources. There have been certainly a lot of accusations that many do not corroborate the story. In fact, John Bolton's name has been mentioned on frequent occasions as well as other Trump supporters who claim that he never said what has been alleged here. On yet you have Carl Bernstein. I think on your show, saying with Watergate under Nixon, they were close to 200 sources that were simply a name. So it's the nature of ice floes reporting and journalism to a great extent, sometimes to have on named sources. But Let's get to the heart of it. I mean, this has been certainly stirring around this controversy. It absolutely has. And I think it is great to have a chance to talk about anonymous sourcing because it is so often misunderstood, and reporters don't do enough to explain why and how we rely on anonymous sourcing number one. The source's heir, never anonymous to the reporters and to their bosses. You know, when I'm using anonymous sources for CNN, at least one of my bosses has to know if the story is very sensitive than multiple people are going to know the identity of this person. And we're going to have a conversation about why they're credible and why we're taking their word and why we're publishing it. You know that kind of checks and balances system is what journalism needs. And what the public needs to know happens so they can have more confidence in the reporting. You know, with with regards to the Atlantic, I think We also know a couple of things from Jeffrey Goldberg record number one. He has quoted John Kelly on the record before he's quoted James Mattis on the record before he clearly has journalistic relationships with some of these retired generals. And that's helpful to know if you're wondering who his sources might be for this story.

Belarus' Post-Election Crackdown

"Nearly 7000 people have been detained in Belarus after protests erupted on Wednesday. This follows the presidential election results that came over the weekend. Several demonstrators who were arrested have sense accused the government of torture. Jen, What's going on? Why are people upset? Well, so this basically kind of started going back a little bit before this election, so they had an election on Sunday. But a little bit. Before that there were some protests going on and Is a lot of had to do with Alexander Lukashenko and his he's the president and his kind of failure more long term in terms of the economy in terms of managing the Corona virus. But then there was this election coming up. And because Lukashenko he's been in power for 26 years now. He was basically elected in the first, you know, nationwide Democratic elections in the country. After you know, they declared independence from the Soviet Union. It was the first nationwide really free and fair election. It was also the last nationwide free and fair election. Hey, has since then consistently crackdown on all forms of opposition. He's rigged all the elections to make sure he stays in power. And this coming up election that was coming up this past Sunday. He was planning to do the same thing. He detained the opposition. You know, the key opposition leaders. But he didn't factor in that there was basically a homemaker, a woman named Svetlana ticking off scale. She's a 37 year old former English translators stay at home Mom. She's also the wife of one of the lead opposition figures who was detained and she said, Okay, fine. You want to arrest my husband? Then I'll run for president in his stead. And she took to the streets and basically said, You know, I'm not gonna let this happen. She basically helped unite the opposition and thousands and thousands and thousands of people came out to the streets in support of her. In a way that had not been seen basically in its entire post Soviet history on DH. Then, of course, the election was rigged. As expected, she, you know, contested the results. She ended up having to fleet of Lithuania she was feared for her Children's lives. But people are angry and they're back in the streets in the thousands and tens of thousands and true to form, Lukashenko's government is again cracking down brutally and trying to repress it. Well, Courtney, we got this message from Dave, who says the situation is so fluid. How will the US respond to Lukashenko's efforts to be seen to be looking for a political solution where he still stays in power? Well, General. I mean, the U. S. Has already said that they don't believe these were free elections. We heard that from Mike Pompeo just this week, and the EU has said that I mean, pretty much the entire international community has condemned these elections. It's interesting because this comes at a time when you there have been terrible relations between the US and Minsk for years. In fact, In. Lukashenko has been under sanctions by the U. S. Since 2006 after another round of election irregularities, so knows general saying free and fair elections that have been a thing of the past. In It has been a thing of the past there. But earlier this year in February, Mike Pompeo became the highest ranking administration official to visit there. In years. He went to Minsk. He met with Lukashenko in April. The administration nominated ambassador for the country, Julie Fisher, would be that she would have been the first ambassador there in more than a decade and actually just went up for her confirmation about a week ago. But now it looks as if there are some people on the hill who are saying while we need to hold up this nomination, If we send a diplomat there, it would appear that this is an endorsement of the crackdown. There are others who think well, if ever there's a time that we need someone there Help advocate for democracy. It's now but it looks as if that nomination is held up. So what's interesting is this All comes at a time where there really was this effort, toe warm ties between Washington and Minsk, and now it looks as if once again, Lukashenko going back to his ways of Trying to rigging an election of really maintaining his title as one of Europe's last remaining dictators that may end up destroying any chance for some kind of riel. Diplomatic relations between the two countries. Well, David on Thursday, thousands of women wearing white flooded the streets to protest that violent crackdown on demonstrators that happened during the week of protests. What comes next in Belarus. Well, it's going to be obviously down to developments inside batteries but also kind of slightly grubby great power politics because how his Alexander Lukashenko survives the dictator of this country. Just on the 10 million people for 26 years. It's part because he has been incredibly adept at playing the West and Russia off against each other. So he's taking a lot of money. Over the years from Russia, he has had Vladimir Putin as a patron of last resort, but he is also Occasionally flirted with Europe in first with us because he doesn't want to be taken over wholesale by Russia. China is also a player. President Xi Jinping of China was the first major leader to congratulate Alexander Lukashenko on this kind of grotesquely rigged election as though it was a perfectly good election. China is poured money into Belarus. It's one of its hubs Fishy Jinping's Bolton Road project, so This kind of constant playing back and forth. But the problem is that he is running a road because if he gives the European Union what they want, which is for him to liberalize on back down from crushing these process. You'll probably get swept

Now, Adam Mention Nolan signature use of time, and that is one aspect of dunkirk among others that certainly connects to his entire body of work. But there are other aspects that Mark Dunkirk is unique. It is only film that is based on historical events, which means it is inherently rooted in the past and yet I'd argue it is only film that truly feels present tense meeting there are no. Dead parents or wives or forsaken children or other tragic events haunting the air's barrier played by Tom. Hardy the Moles Army private Tommy fiene whitehead or for the most part the sees Mr Dawson played by Mark Rylance like all Nolan protagonist there's plenty of personal sacrifices on display but no guilt no sense of futility about toning past actions just the seemingly futile need to survive the current event that they. Are Tragically experiencing here's something else that argues unique about dunkirk as we every other commentator on Dolan's work is discussed in some form or fashion for all those dead parents and wives and foresaken children. There's nothing so emotional or borderline sentimental in any of his previous films as the climax of inception and yes, mileage may vary there which led to interstellar and not only mcconaghy's crushing breakdown watching twenty three. Years Worth of miss video messages from his family but the verbalize message love is the one thing we're capable of proceeding that transcends dimensions of time and space. Maybe we should trust that even if we can't understand it, it's hard to imagine any character in previous Christopher Nolan movies saying something like that which led to Dunkirk am I crazy josh this is his most blatantly sentimental and even heart film. And if so is that what establishes Dunkirk as his best its balance of coldness the sober portrayal of the hell of war of life in the misguided choices, some men will make when facing death with warmth. In the compassionate inspiring choices some men will make to maintain a way of life. So a lot of subtleties in that question and you're onto something so you're not crazy I think I would distinguish. The word blatantly, I. Don't think this is blatantly emotional or moving, but I do think you're onto something in the fact that it is maybe his most heartwarming in where it ends up and let me kind of try to parse those. You're right as long as the Nolan Canon has convulsing McConnell. Interstellar is going to be his most blatantly emotional I mean you can't have a scene like that without registering that on it surface. That's his most emotional movie. But I will also say that I find Dunkirk to be his most emotionally affecting movie maybe even more. So than inception, which we about how I did find that very moving especially in the character of Mal. So yet dunkirk is really a unique thing even as it's working within the strands and trends that we have been tracing in Nolan's other films, I. Think the heartwarming aspect is probably a part of that. You've nailed it there in that it brings us to a place that. Is One of Constellation and I think it's earned because I think up until that point we have just been suffering alongside all of these other characters in so many ways and we've also been recognizing as the movie does that this is You know a an account of a military failure, a huge defeat and so for the movie to kind of offer, some sort of solace at the end of that I think is. In proportion and well

Mary Trump's book breaks record with mammoth sales

"Book about her uncle. President Trump is breaking records, Simon and Schuster says. Neither 159 150,000 copies have been sold and combined print, digital and audio additions. In the book, Mary Trump says that she heard the president using racial slurs an anti Semitic slurs. But White House chief of staff Mark Meadows said I've talked to the president and been a friend of the president. And now I work for the president for more than 3.5 years and not once have I heard anything like that. This book by Mary Trump is now outsold John Bolton's book, The Room where it happened, and that's sold more than 800,000 copies in its first week, but I went on sale last month.

"The trump administration gave Michael Cohen Choice. Sign this paper, saying you won't write a book or go back to prison. Silence or prison. Your choice then there's the book by Donald Trump's niece slated for official publication tomorrow Donald. Trump and his family have been in court up through today, trying to block the book from being published and Block Mary trump from saying anything about the book. which feels ridiculous because you probably feel like you've already read it, since just about every media outlet on the planet has gotten a copy and dissect it already. Well this evening. Donald Trump and his family lost that court fight a New York State Supreme Court Judge rejected. The trump families attempt to block the book ruling that quote the potential enormous cost and logistical nightmare of stopping the publication, recalling and removing. Thousands of books from all types of booksellers, brick and mortar and virtual libraries and private citizens is an insurmountable task at this time. The judge then quotes a different judge in another case Donald. Trump lost when he tried to block the publication of his former National Security Advisor John Bolton's book quote by the looks of it. The horses not just out of the barn. It is out of the country. Mary Trump's book can go forward and also married is now free to speak publicly about it. which should be interesting, so Michael Cohen's Book Mary Trump's book. The president his family his White House doing everything they can to prevent the from coming out up to and including sending Michael Cohen back to prison, but today we learned about a third book. Now see if you can spot the difference today. Today. The Justice Department released the actual executive order commuting the prison sentence of Roger. Stone he can see the president's unmistakable sharpie signature there. The president commuted his old friend sentence on Friday night, but it's not clear how broad the commutation was. In fact, the judge in stones case demanded to see the actual order to determine whether it covered stones, prison, time or his probation as well well. Now, we know that the president took care of everything. His Old Friend Prison Time supervised released twenty thousand dollar. Fine all of it poof gone. And today Roger Stone announced that he celebrating by. Writing a book. That's right, so if you testify unflattering Lee about the president, and you try and write a book you get to get the go back to prison. If you withhold information from Congress and prosecutors to protect the president, you get your prison sentence erased, and you can publish to your heart's content.

"As President Trump's national security advisor John Bolton spent many of his four hundred fifty three days in the room where it happened, which also happens to be the title of his new book, the room where it happened a White House memoir in the book he shows the president. Addicted to chaos, who embraced our enemies, and spurned our friends was deeply suspicious of his own government, and for whom getting reelected, was the only thing that mattered even if it meant endangering or weakening the nation. Almost from its inception, the book touched off a war of words between the president and his former advisor with trump, denouncing Bolton as a traitor, threatening to throw him in prison, and alternately claiming that Bolton's memoir is full of lies and or classified information but John Bolton says the facts speak for themselves and today Ambassador Bolton joins me on the show to reveal what he witnessed during his seventeen tumultuous months in the trump White House we talk about President Trump's bizarre obsession with authoritarian strongmen and his. His overall lack of interest in advancing freedom and human rights olten reveals how he reacted to trump's eagerness to meet with North Korean dictator, Kim Jong Hoon, why the second North Korea summit was put together so hastily, and what took place behind closed doors in trump's infamous one on one meeting with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. He says the president rarely ever reads recalls his frustrations at trying to educate trump about history and foreign policy and opens up about the numerous times. He considered resigning as trump's. Security Advisor before he finally reached his breaking point less, he weighs in on whether trump would willingly step down if defeated in November. "Now seen hello books from lots of people who worked at the White House at one point or another in his new book team. Trump has now written a book that the president tried to suit to block, but it's publisher says this book is coming out with a he likes it or not. An ABC news has obtained a copy and these other books from former White House officials. Try to take you inside the president's game plan is leadership style. The message from Mary Trump is there is no game plan. There is no leadership and that she. She says is the danger in the midst of a pandemic heading into an election ABC senior editorial producer. John T was there in the early days of the trump campaign and just kept covering him John Every day. You read this book. What's in it while there's a lot Brad I mean the idea that of member of the first extended family is coming out and saying something about sitting president then and never itself is news worthy of an and what she's doing. This book is doing several. Several things they've had an estranged relationship just to be clear they have seen each other sporadically over the last several years married trump explains quite vivid. Detail a dinner at the white. House she went to an April two thousand seventeen. This was a birthday party for to her aunts that the president hosted. But you know what she talks about in this book is the dynamics beyond the broader family you know. She is the daughter of Fred from junior I had a brother Fred. Great Guy. Best Looking, Guy Best personality much better than mine bridge from dine about. It's the reason Donald. Trump says he personally never touched a drink or smoke a cigarette. He was substantially older and I listened to him, and I respected it, but he would constantly tell me. Don't drink. He'd also add. Don't smoke and Mary Trump says that between Donald, trump and donald trump's bother fred trump senior. They were the ones that destroyed his brother I think Fred would have been very happy if he didn't have to compete, he had to compete. Because of the environment he had to compete and ultimately ended up destroying and with very sad she details in the book instances where they belittled him of four, leaving the family business than when he tried to come back later in life of the abused him further. And pushed him to the brink Mary. Trump said the president's father served to encourage Donald's reckless hyperbole and unearned confidence that hit Donald's pathological weaknesses and insecurities. What's the John is the book the claims in this book more about like. Here's what it's like to grow up trump or are there. Trump says the president sister retired judge Maryanne trump. Barry told her in two thousand fifteen. She didn't take her brother's presidential campaign. Seriously those things that voters will perhaps find interesting. I mean it's it plays right into the political climate right now with writings book and she says that she you know thought about writing something for years she. Comes clean. You will in admitting that. She was a source to the New York Times Investigation Renee revealed. Never before seen Information Donald Trump's financial specifically tax returns according to The Times in multiple years Mr. trump seems to have lost more money than nearly any other individual taxpayer in the country, and the paper says because of those staggering losses. Donald is not simply week. She writes. His Ego is a fragile thing that must be bolstered every moment because he knows deep down that he has nothing of what he claims to be. Hey, what is the deal with whether? This book can come out or not, because there were questions about whether Simon and Schuster could even publish the it looks like they can, and they will weird as. As Mary trump in her relationship to the family into all this, the main crux of this remember is that this all started or I? Guess married? "Contradict so many of the arguments that the president's defense team is making well that is up to the Republican Senate majority and This question about witnesses. They put it off when the trial began because there was a small but still big enough group of Republican senators editors who were not prepared to immediately say there should be no witnesses. They wanted to keep the option open as the trial went forward and down Before the Bolton News broke it seemed that they weren't making much progress but then Bolton's news change the dynamics bit and there was definitely some chaos Behind the scenes in the Senate on Monday Mitt Romney publicly proclaimed that I think it's increasingly likely The other Republicans will Will join those of us who think we should hear from chapels. And whether there are other witnesses documents well. That's another matter but I think. Ah John Bolton's relevance to our decision has been come as become increasingly demands. DO INDICATE APP team I. I'M NOT GONNA speak for any other. Republican senators have spoken with other SUV upheaval. This as well. He thinks his case has gotten stronger. He made the case in private two Republican senators at their lunch You had some names we haven't really heard before in this. Discussion like Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania brought up the possibility of doing a one for one trade. Where Democrats would get to call one witness and trump would get to call one witness in that case? Who would call John Bolton the Democrats? Yes incredible yes I think he very much does want to testify. He could have just kept quiet throughout this whole thing but in early January he gave gave that public statements saying that he would testify if the Senate subpoenaed him and if the votes do end up being there to call witnesses. Who says I think McConnell would put a lot of pressure on trump to just rip off the band aid? Let Bolt testify. They're nowhere close to the two two thirds vote in the Senate that would be needed to remove him from office. So what's the worst that could happen. So even if John Bolton rolls into the Senate let's say I don't know next week and says there was a quid pro quo. I was in the room where it happened. You still think president trump's gonNA be acquitted absolutely. Republicans have made their peace with defending trump at this point trump continues to remain overwhelmingly popular with Republican voters so Republican and Senators see their future careers and The GOP's performance in twenty twenty as yoked to Donald Trump. And they're not gonNA rock that boat so so much for the legitimacy of the trial who says it has any legitimacy question was asked by Mr Secolo the open before this this thing was by. Why why why are we here? Let me see if I can just posit an answer. The answer to that question. We are here sir. Because president trump's pressure a foreign government the target in American citizens the political and personal gain. We are here sir. Because president prompt foreign interference in the twenty twenty election and and corrupted our democracy we are here because president trump withheld three hundred ninety one million dollars in military aid from vulnerable Ukraine. We're now stuck in a manner that has been deemed on lost. We are here star because President Donald Trump's elevated his personal political interests and subordinated in the national security interests of the United States of America. We off care because President corruptly abused use his power and then he tried to cover.

"Erin Hi Gideon. It's it's thank you for joining me from my chamber or a few extra hours of sunlight today. Yeah absolutely doctors recommend at least two. And you're not GonNa Twenty radio so thanks for Co hosting this week for those. Who Don't know Aaron House another crooked pod hysteria and is an occasional national policy of America? Panelists as well also. This is the second job we've worked at together and I can't the third Mike Bloomberg's White House. I am really glad to be here and I cannot wait to be there live in the moment but wait for the Michael. Everyone says on today's show pressure mounts for a former national security adviser John Bolton to testify at trump's impeachment trial the supreme court allows the trump administration to begin implementing its public charge immigration rule looks plain what that means and then as always some headlines President. Trump's legal team presented their defense in the Senate impeachment trial on Monday and left out the most recent elephant or in this case Walrus of war. We call him a Walrus whether it okay. Walrus of war in the room former national security adviser John Bolton reportedly wrote in his is forthcoming book. That trump told him that he wanted to continue freezing military aid to Ukraine until the country helped with investigations into the Biden's which is quite literally really what trump is being accused of in the trial. Now notice talked about the book. I just want to remind everybody listening. You don't have to buy John Bolton's book in fact you should not by John. Bolton's book John Bolton Money at best we'll get the other excerpts and then we'll do other episodes that are on each go on tour and download a parrot a copy of it like it's an episode of girls. That's that's what I was planning to do anyway. So the latest reporting also on what Bolt wrote in his book is that he was concerned that trump was offering bring favors who the leaders of Turkey and China that the pattern that has sort of emerged about trump in the way that he behaves with other world leaders was not restricted to just Ukraine. Embolden also says that he told Attorney General Bill Bar about those concerns at the time and all this news writing just days before senators will be voting on whether to hear from for more witnesses like Bolton who has yet to testify even though. He said he'd be willing to if subpoenaed by the Senate there are forty seven Democrats in the Senate and they only need a simple majority to start the process calling in new witnesses so the math checks out they gotta convince four Republicans or Republicans. Okay so I'm guessing those four Republicans will be deep pestilence war famine and the fourth. One Mitt Romney. Yes that is exactly what the four are just his name. It's kind of unclear if that is going to happen. Happened but here is what we know about the thinking of some of the important senators on this at the moment. Aaron I see. You're wearing shirt with a big picture of Susan Collins face on it so so you want to start by talking about guys Gideon is lying. He is lying to you. I'm wearing a shirt with a giant picture of snoopy on it. snoopy doesn't even look like a person much less. Susan Collins I think that's mean to snoopy and Susan Collins. Frankly okay well call said but she's still likely to be inclined to call witnesses as she did in Bill Clinton's impeachment trial and quote reports about John Bolton's books strengthened the case for witnesses again Susan Collins is not reading the book. She's just relying on reports like you should not by John Bolton's book. Everyone is Clifton noticing. It you would think that. That is the case that his book would strengthen the case for hearing from him and others but then there's never trump white knight Senator Mitt. Romney here is a clip from him. Following the Bolton News. I've said for some time that I hope to be able to hear from John. Bolton I think with a story that came out yesterday it's increasingly apparent that it would be important to hear from John Bolton I I of course make a final decision on witnesses after we've heard from from not only the prosecution but also the defense but I think at this stage it's pretty fair to say that John Bolton has a relevant testimony to provide to those of us who are shitting impartial justice. Rodney went on to say that based on his conversations with other Republican senators that it seemed likely the votes would be there to call to testify so I just WanNa take the moment to thank the brave Mitt Romney once again for his invisible sacrifice. Jeff just brave man. He's a bold man who describes everything like paint trying Frank All right so who else is thinking differently than those. Who who else grew aspiring history after this news came out that sounds so painful but Alaska Senator Lisa Lisa Murkowski said. I've said before I'm curious about what Ambassador Bolton might have to say. I'm still curious. Okay that's something and the potential fourth member of the make mustache. Man Talk Musketeers. ooh That's nice. Senator Lamar Alexander. said he wouldn't decide on the issue until after all the arguments and questions and answer sessions are done okay. So that's what we know publicly about everybody but also privately. This news is apparently causing some anger. Apparently a lot of the Republican caucus was was pretty pissed that this came out in the first place trying to figure out how it came out and that includes Senate majority leader Mitch McConnell who obviously has been wanting to wrap this whole thing up by the end of this week to get off his hands as soon as possible is the sense that we think that Republicans are actually worried about how all this is playing out. I think they're pretending to to be worried. I think it's worried Kabuki. They're pretending to be worried because it seems apparent at this point that judging by the amount of dirt that's already come out and by the a number of people that we still haven't heard from. There's probably a lot of dirt that's yet to be on earth so to speak But I do think. Republicans realize the value in pretending that they want to know everything. I think. What's interesting right now? Is We have a contingent of Republicans who are insisting that not only do. They want to know everything they've always wanted to know everything. They wanted to know everything before it was cool. They're like hipsters for the truth. Yeah yeah I I mean I think that the other thing too is they're thinking like how do we stop this bleeding right like is it. Is it easier for us. They're just say. Take the poison pill having Bolton testify and maybe that's a really bad day for us as a caucus and we got take the L on that or you now do we risk a quick acquittal of trump and then in the future. You're saying all this stuff continues to come out. And then people are like looking at us in November. And saying we're kind of done with you you know I don't know that'd be nice. That would be nice. Yeah that would be nice if that's the consequence for for what they're doing but we live in a consequence free world Aaron. Some people did apparently at the very least realize though that doing the constant hand waving and saying nothing to see here isn't working as a strategy so there is this other strategy. Gee that is emerging Republican. Senator Pat Toomey is reportedly talking up a witness quid pro quo of sorts a Bolton for Hunter Biden trade as a way to sort of get all the parties on board here. I mean it's sort of a weird choice for trump supporters to wanNA call up Hunter Biden and draw further attention to unelected children children of elected officials benefiting from their parents position seems weird. Seems like a not really something with an easy solution for the trump crowd. But Hey go go with God. The thinking goes though that it makes a call someone up that they might not want to or else you know. Let Republicans Republicans quickly acquit trump. They're trying to use this upper-hand scenario because they have the numbers and while some senators were trying to figure out some sort of deal like this others were kind of saying the quiet out loud about the impact of the entire trial and trump's lawyers attacks on the Biden's here's Senator Joni Ernst Iowa Iowa caucuses. Folks I awoke caucuses. Are this next Monday evening. And I'm really interested to see how this discussion Russian today informs and influences the Iowa Caucus voters those democratic caucus goers will be supporting president the Vice President Biden. At this point you wow she seems pretty jazzed about that Pretty jazzed about Joe Biden hadn't possibly suffering as a result of this all right. Well we're GONNA keep you updated on. How all this progresses throughout the week? Today is day three for trump's legal team. It's unclear how much time they'll actually use. Once they wrap up. We'll move to the question and answer phase of the trial and the long awaited witness. Vote could happen by Thursday.

"So speaking of this this news Shan in the reporting about what is in John Bolton's book. It raises the question. If this is even going to be part of the Senate trial is John Bolton GonNa be partisan at trial willoughby witnesses. Will he be called if there are witnesses. We've talked about this a lot on here for Democrats To get witnesses witnesses into this trial to get a Bolton or somebody else. Democrats need to stand together in the Senate and they need four Republicans to break over and join them on those votes. We've been going through it and it's been been hard to see exactly which for that might be but there is the question now whether this Bolton News Might Jarrah few loose a few critical Republican votes lose for Democrats. Are you seeing any signs that might be in the works here. Yes definitely the issue of witnesses specifically John Bolton as a witness seems much more likely today than it did on Friday and you know I know there has been talk of witnesses all along as you mentioned but there's definitely been some senators who've been leaning in the direction of witnesses and we got a better sense of what they're thinking is on that again. Today Susan Collins came out reporting on John unfolds in string and the case for witnesses and has prompted a number earth stations. We heard Romney come out saying he wants to hear from John Bolton essentially a story that came out yesterday it's it's increasingly apparent that it would be important to hear from John Bolton I of course make a final decision on witnesses. After we've heard from Natalie the prosecution but also the defense but I think at this stage. It's pretty fair to say that John Bolton has a relevant testimony to provide to those of us who are sitting in impartial just a couple of others senators hitters. We've heard weigh in Lisa Murkowski All at another name out there that we're watching Lamar Alexander which As of now I don't believe he spoke out on this but he's another one who could defect so it definitely seems. The momentum is starting to really head in that direction and the John. Bolton News is certainly pushed a lot of senators in that way and is is gonNA put pressure on them politically because you see news reports. If you're a voter out there about what Bolton says in his book and what you're reading in The New York Times or seen on NBC. See News will. You're going to want to hear that right out of his mouth and there's going to be this question of well. Why not? Why not let him testify that I think a lot of these moderate senators in the Middle Arkan have to answer answer that question from their constituents? That's interesting though. I do wonder if that sets up. The potential for friction between trump and and some of these Republicans. Maybe even Mitch McConnell I if it were to come to what you're describing there just in that We've seen this. President have no hesitation to go after his own party if he thinks they are wrong. Him and I imagine he's not eager to have John Bolton be a part of this If they were to cast a vote that sort of opens the door to that. I wonder if there'd be awesome We'd see some division in the Republican side. Well the White House is hoping that if the door to witnesses does get opened with John Bolton that they will argue that they should be able to call their own witnesses. And that that's when you get into a hunter Biden situation or a situation where they can then call their own witnesses that they hope will exonerate all right the president now. There's no guarantee that necessarily going to happen because the senators are the ones who get to decide but it yes it could be a real moment where you have to see some real daylight between the president and the Senate but again at the end of the day the the White House does feel like they will be able to defend themselves and that's still at the end of this process. The president will be acquitted. They will head injury election and they will be able to run on a whole myriad of other issues outside outside of impeachment and get the president reelected that way. What would witnesses due to the timeline of this trial I I mean I've heard suggestions that without witnesses? This could wrap up really fast. I have even heard people suggest the end of this week without witnesses but but if there were a vote to have witnesses how long would that extend trial for. Well that is the question. Every reporter order in Washington wants to know and we were all like doing the math on our phones as weekend realizing this could be done by Friday or Saturday potentially Is So if there is a a John Bolton Subpoena and the White House asserts executive privilege it goes to the courts and that could really take weeks even an expedited process process and while that waits in the courts. I don't know exactly what happens. I'm assuming the trial just gets put on hold and everyone in. The Senate goes back to their regularly scheduled programing programming but yes there is definitely potential with witnesses that this trial could still be overhanging. The president during his State of the Union on February fourth. It it could still be hanging out there. During the primaries during the New Hampshire primaries during South Carolina during these key election primaries that are going on for the Democrats. So just sort out of uncharted territory. And we're really just taking it. I think here one day at a time Iran. Sometimes one hour at a time waiting to see what's going to happen next. Pretty big pivot point coming up then either. This thing wraps up quickly or it goes on for a while. We'll find out looks like later this week. Shannon petty piece senior White House reporter for NBC. Thanks so much for joining honest. I I do think this book makes makes it untenable for these Republicans to not hear from John Bolton for for Murkowski for Collins Romney for Lamar Alexander. Although he's retiring for Cory Gardner who's still in the witness protection program program. I mean this you have to think the pressure is building on them to have witnesses. What what possible? Excuse could you offer to voters in your state or in your district for. I'm not calling these people. Yeah of course they're all GONNA come out a book. Of course the biggest trump defenders are gonna go out and say what they've been saying this morning say fuck it who've already made up their minds but like and look. Do I think that Mitt Romney Susan Collins you're gonNA show some great courage vote to convict Donald Trump. I still think that's highly unlikely but political pressure sure works and also if you're Mitt Romney and you're going to vote no on John Bolton as a witness why put yourself out there and say I want witnesses. I've been saying it all along and now I think it's more likely we're going to get it. What would you do that? Why not just say to walk by reporters and say I'll talk to you later? We'll also you know okay. You're very sophisticated. You are saying in your very sophisticated to predict that a very likely outcome is a surtee is not interesting or smart today. Make you savvy. It now seems like you know I think John Thune was saying There's going to be witnesses Friday or Saturday of this week maybe And everything usually goes longer if they do say yes to witnesses at this point doesn't look like Donald Trump's given a state of the union after after an acquittal I sure doesn't so that's that's fund the one. To let him make sure he doesn't get a full acquittal and full exoneration scream about it and you know really really damning testimony from John Bolton on the way out the door at the end of the trial that's not a really That's not a full exoneration for Donald. I'd like to see that one sign that I think even some of the Senate Republicans are starting to come to grips with the fact that they're witnesses. Is John Cornyn back floating. You get your witnesses. Were Calling Biden recalling hunter. Were calling recalling Adam Schiff again I think calling Adam Schiff is go. Yeah please catch that car so believe it or not. "On today's show the return of impeachment and once he made it to twenty somehow now and then some headlines Monday show. We joked about remembering impeachment and some kind of supernatural specter must have heard us because there's more impeachment news always as so yesterday former national security adviser John Bolton said that he would be prepared to testify in a Senate trial if a subpoena was issued. Two big old. If we'll get to that in a moment but first Gideon can you remind everyone who John Bolton is and aside from just being the guy with the mustache why his testimony has been such a hot topic for impeachment so far yeah absolutely man with the large upper lip born has been sort of the ultimate white whale Democrats and the whole impeachment process. Obviously he didn't testify Safai in the house proceedings they had wanted him to and he would be the most high ranking and closest advisor to trump to testify about what the president was thinking when he was withholding aid aid from Ukraine while demand the announcement of an investigation into the Biden's all of his aides to testify before. And you know he was the other person that was sort of privy to all of this. We assume it while we don't really know what Bolton would say. Obviously his aides told House investigators that he was pretty concerned about how trump and his personal the lawyer Rudy. Giuliani were pressuring the Ukrainians to investigate Democrats now are wad heads out. There might remember when we were talking about Bolton allegedly saying that Giuliani was was a quote handgrenade who is going to blow everybody up all right. That's all fine and good but I mean I just want to say we have not agreed on what heads so I like to be you removed from that narrative anyway so John Bolton says he's willing to testify now if he's subpoenaed again that if is doing a lot of work so so is he even GonNa get subpoenaed by Republicans in it or is it just him being you know. Oh it's very convenient to play virtuous right now since there's no chance he's actually GonNa have to follow through. Yeah it definitely could the latter for sure What we know right now is that Senate Majority Leader Mitch? McConnell has said that senators should wait to figure out if any witnesses should appear after the here. Opening statements admits from house impeachment managers and trump's lawyers. Obviously he and other Republican senators are thinking. It'd be easier if we just get this done and equip the guy as soon soon as possible but meanwhile it is a little bit out of McConnell's hands directly to influence all this for one important reason. You only need fifty one senators. I call a witness or requests new evidence now if we do some back of the Napkin math here. They're only forty seven democratic senators. So in theory all you'd have to due to get four Republicans to be like. Hey we wouldn't have to know the truth right not a total loss caused but it is Republicans that we were talking about after all the Republicans. Right here Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer talking about this very issue on the Senate floor as my colleagues returned from the holiday recess. One question looms before for us will the United States Senate conduct a fair impeachment trial of the president of the United States. Will we search search for all of the facts or will we look for cover up sham trial on one of the most important powers the founding fathers gave the American people wow what are Republicans actually saying about John Bolton's announcement though are there or any surprises from GOP members. Is there. Hope I mean kind of not re. Why don't want to say there's no those are shoes a little bit of hope? Maybe use who's ever questions the second one very loaded There were a lot of different kinds of responses to this Senator Marco. Rubio saying he's interested Basically the McConnell stance that The Senate consider what the house was able to consider when the house made their judgment to vote to impeach trump which like we said to not include the bulletin testimony. Or you know. Plan Bolton testimony In addition to Rubio there was this sort of confusing statement from senator. John Cornyn well. I think it's entirely likely that that is testimony. would be helpful to the president because it would identify basically A foreign policy dispute which is reserved to the president under the the constitution is is really his sole authority as a as a basis for Impeachment for this now the third time in American history So he could we could be beneficial. Well you'd think if he thought that it was an official he'd be like okay. Then I would vote to subpoena. He did not answer that question directly. Of course Cornyn come on and then of course there Senator Mitt Romney who said that he would want Bolton to testify but didn't endorse what the Democrats actually want which is for that testimony to start at the beginning of the trial. Yeah and that idea is basically that you know. Democrats want to hear before we get into an the actual trial from John Bolton so we have the facts going into it instead of you know the Republican idea which is let's not hear from anybody start the trial. Let's hear Donald Trump's argument and and be like great right close. We're not really going to subpoena him. Yeah me land. They a lot of them have already started the point of being ready to quit which which is interesting way to pursue a trial. But you know in addition to that. The other sort of weathervane senators that people often look out for senator. Susan Collins and Senator Lisa Macau Murkowski are so far also saying that there are sort of close with McConnell on how they view all of this so an array of reactions from we shouldn't Subpoena Bolton into Bolton's testimony will be beneficial to trump so big picture. What's actually coming next? Yeah so we. Last left off was House Speaker Nancy. Pelosi hadn't hadn't sent over the articles of impeachment to the Senate playing a big game of keep away because she wanted assurances over a trial. We've been talking about meaning the opportunity to call witnesses introduce new evidence as it comes up. Republicans have said that they want to hear the opening arguments and the president's defense before they even consider allowing more evidence since more information into this whole thing and overarching above. All of that over the last couple of days has been this little old story with a place called Iran and what that has done has made Republicans Democrats talk past each other. You know on that. And how that sort of interacting with impeachment Republicans have said things like trump can't possibly be remove all working on national security issues that he created. himself yeah and some Democrats have been saying that the two things can be focused on on separately so trying to run those two tracks at the same time and then you have some Democrats also arguing that trump strike to kill general. Sulamani is in and of itself itself grounds for removing him. Congressman Ro Khanna was one of the people who mentioned that we spoke with him on Monday. Show about Iran. If you want to go check that out yeah not not to mention how this is all intersecting with the twenty twenty Democratic presidential candidates who might have double duty in the Senate trial and you know that whole running for president thing like how you let you time yeah Booking flights very late not gonNA land There is a debate scheduled for next week after all another one And three out of the five people who have qualified so far DR are senators. So you know a little bit of a scheduling craziness going over there now. We might get more clarity on this later today when the House of Representatives return to work but for now there are no signs that Pelosi is going to say what she's planning to do right away. We'll obviously.

"She will join US tonight right and you will want to see the video of what she had to do. In the North Carolina House of Representatives today with Republicans trying to turn off off her microphone in what the Charlotte Observer called a stunning display of contempt for democracy but we begin tonight with Donald Trump once again and making a trump problem much worse today Donald Trump's John Bolton problem got much worse. No one makes Donald Trump's problems get worse Chris Better Than Donald Trump and so today when he was asked about John Bolton Donald Trump could not resist taking shots at John Bolton attacking John Bolton Calling John Bolton not not smart jumbled resisted responding to Donald Trump's provocation well. John Bolton didn't completely resist. He said some very important words words. John Bolton said I will have my say in due course that was first reported as a text John Bolton sent to the Washington Post and soon. NBC News confirmed affirmed those exact words from John Bolton. Today I will have my say in due course it would have been much better for Donald Trump. John Bolton Alton decided to have his say today and get it over with but on this at least John Bolton is much much smarter than Donald Trump. John Bolton is going going to have his say he is going to respond to the insults that Donald Trump through it him today but John Bolton is going to control the timing in the form of his response to Donald Trump John John. Bolton has already written one book of Memoirs of serving in a Republican presidential administration tonight. John Bolton knows that he has in his possession the makings of a book look that could out sell any book ever written by a member of a presidential administration and a book that could destroy the trump reelection campaign. I will have my say in due course might do course B o a year from now in September or October of twenty twenty at at the height of the presidential campaign might that be the moment for John Bolton to release his second memoir of service to a president might that be when and how John Bolton has his say and what would that book due to the trump reelection campaign. Donald trump should be very very worried about John Bolton's next book book. This is a small there is a small group of New York literary agents in Washington lawyers who handle books like this and they would all adviser John Bolton and to have his say in a book and to maximize the value of that book in the Marketplace John Bolton should say nothing between now and when the book comes out that means means that every day of John Bolton's silence becomes more ominous for the trump campaign every book publisher is going to tell John Bolton that they need the book to come out at the height of the presidential campaign one of the clues of what would be in such book was offered to The Washington Post today by a source identified as one of Bolton's allies speaking on the condition of anonymity and that ally told The Washington Post that Bolton was not surprised by trump's latest outburst after working alongside him and becoming familiar with his behavior. That is the story that John Bolton has to sell to book publishers working alongside. I'd him in becoming familiar with his behavior every detail of that behavior the John Bolton witnessed or heard about John. Bolton is in a position to become tom the best selling author ever of an inside the trump White House book and he has enough time to write one and get it published at the height of the presidential campaign a and that book could be worth several million dollars a life changing amount of money for John Bolton and so obviously if there is anyone anyone working in the trump White House who actually has donald trump's best interests in mind that person would have told Donald Trump today not to antagonize Joan. Bolton not ought to say what he said about John Bolton today following your favorite miserable. What led you you so John is somebody that I actually got along very well. He made some very big mistakes when he talked about the Libyan model for Kim Jong. That was not a good statement to make you just take a look at what happened with Qaddafi that was not a good statement to make and it set us back and frankly he wanted to do things not necessarily surly tougher. John's known as tough guy. He's so tough he got us into Iraq. That's tough and but he's somebody not that I actually had a very good relationship with but he wasn't getting along with people in the administration that I consider very important and I hope we we. We've left in good stead but maybe we haven't. Maybe we haven't in Washington. If you think maybe you haven't parted on good terms you haven't John was an in line with what we were doing and actually in some cases. He thought it was too tough what we were doing mister tough guy. You know you have to go into Iraq going into Iraq was something that he felt very strongly about so we're right now. In for over seven trillion dollars into the Middle East and I don't say it was his decision decision. You had a president and you had other people also but he was very out there. I can tell you and wanting to have them do it. Yes that's right. Donald Trump was attacking hacking John Bolton for what John Bolton did and said sixteen years ago which Donald trump new about when he hired John Bolton Donald Trump just couldn't wouldn't stop attacking John Bolton and even managed to squeeze in a defense of Kim Jong UN while he was attacking John Bolton but we were set back very badly when John Bolton talk to you about the Libyan model and he made a mistake and as soon as you mentioned that the Libyan model what what a disaster take a look at what happened to Qaddafi with Libya model and he's using that to make a deal with North Korea and I don't blame Kim Jong Un for what he said after that and he wanted nothing to do with John and that's not a question of being tough. That's a question of being not smart to say. Say something like that not smart to say something like that. Donald Trump is surely going to find out that it was not smart to say something. I like that about John Bolton today leading off our discussion now Rick Stengel former under secretary of state in the Obama Administration his memoir of working inside the Obama Administration is coming out soon he has an MSNBC political analyst Maria the former deputy chief of staff to President Clinton and a lecturer. We're at Berkeley Law. School is with us and Rick Wilson a Republican strategist and contributed to the daily beast. He's the author of everything trump touches dis the single the the president very clearly doesn't understand what he's kneeling within John Bolton. John Bolton is going to write a book people in his position right these books and this I it sounds like a threat today when John Bolton said I will have my say in due course I think that's the title of the book. I don't agree with John Bolton about anything certainly not about Iraq or Iran but I certainly agreed with John Bolton when he thought it was an absolutely crazy idea to have the Taliban come to Camp David and having to go station with Donald Trump what what he had right was he was willing to speak truth to power and say some of these ideas are just crazy. They're not within the normative window of what public policies and the reason his book will be very good is that he understands how you make foreign policy and he understands just how far outside the window of acceptable practice. Donald Trump is and that will be what he says when he's having his say Rick Imagine if you will John Bolton book comes out a year from now in September as the a as the trump campaign is chugging along anywhere from fifteen to seven or eight points behind the Democratic nominee according to tonight's Paulie Anyway John Bolton has it within his power right now the ability to just kind of wipe out the trump campaign were he to time a book with that kind of intention well like I think John Bolton is is one of these characters who is a rarity in Washington. John doesn't really care about politics but he does care about security. You can disagree with his approach is on various things but the the guy never one day in his life said it. Hey I'm going to do something about Iran or Iraq or anything else because I think it'll be great for me in the election but he's certainly will be conscious of the fact that trump is going to try the frame himself as this this particularly potent dealmaker and negotiator and international leader and I think he's got the chance to to to stick the knife in his trump's very soft under Chen at right at the right moment if he chooses to do so and Maria there's a reason why there's a certain kind of public ritual at these kind of departures and both sides tend to be very complimentary of the other even if they don't really mean it and a lot of of that has to do with kind of protecting the position in the inevitable memoirs well part of it is that but frankly there and this is where I as one of the wreck said I'm disagreeing with John Bolton but he he has a belief in policy concerned about the country's security. I think it's misguided but it's about protecting the institution Russian and so the fact that trump didn't understand that frankly for me. The greatest concern is if Bolton Bolton Bolton's should be talking right now about what he's seen because he knows how dangerous the world is and and he probably has tremendous insight about how chaotic both substantively and procedurally this administration this President Ms and that's dangerous. I feel like he has an obligation to actually start talking right now but perhaps money money well also so rick Stengel to go back to the campaign issue if John Bolton has seen how dangerous Donald Trump is if he believes donald trump is dangerous in the presidency dangerous remaining in the presidency. He's looking at the Democratic candidates. There's not one of them who would've invited the Taliban to camp not one. There isn't one of them who will fall in love with Kim Jong UN who will exchange love letters with Kim Jong. Not One John Bolton has to look at Democrat candidates and say if he believes that he thinks thinks that that the country would be better off in foreign policy terms with one of them therefore the most effective time to speak the most effective time to unload is September twenty twenty and stopped the trump campaign. Yes I suspect you're right that he would think any of the democratic nominees would be better than Donald Trump to to pick up on meritas point. I think he does have an obligation to say something. Jim Mattis has just come out with a book Jim Madison's. I still have the quaint old old fashioned notion that I shouldn't talk about President who is in power well that is a quaint notion but if you're the secretary of defense or your the National Security Advisor and your job is to protect national security and you see the president of the United States who is meant to protect our national security being the greatest threat to it then you do indeed have an obligation to speak out a moral obligation Asian to speak out Rick Wilson James Mattis took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution United States not the president of the United States and it is just his own personal notion and possibly obtained through customs in the military that has led him to deliver a book that everyone is just ignoring because he's not telling the story of what the experience was to be working with Donald Trump to be in the room with Donald Trump. I think one of the great difficulties that we've seen the second order effect is all these people these churned through in the national security side of this equation. They're not leaving because they're not competent. They're leaving because he's not competent. They're leaving because they can't work in a system that is so random so still casting so constantly chaotic driven in by trump's ego driven by impulses and now driven by the fact that Donald Trump is to the left of Bernie Sanders. Donald trump is to the left of everybody else this this character of Taliban trump this week John Wagner fired for being insufficiently skeptic are insufficiently favorable to so the Taliban and insufficiently favorable to the Iranian Mullah's. That's that's a bizarro world that we're living in and people who are inside have responsibility to say the truth. They were responsibility to speak out whether they timing is September or now. They have a responsibility to stand up and say look. This guy is crazier than you can imagine agenda he is his judgment is more is more dangerous than you can imagine. He's existential threat to this country. I gotta say that inviting the Taliban to camp. David is not got a left or extreme left idea so you don't get to the left of Bernie Sanders with that idea. I mean it might be a rand Paul idea. I don't know whose idea it would be but it doesn't live in the left side of our politics. That's for sure I want to go to something. That's so interesting about what Donald Trump is fixated on and it's when John Bolton actually we defined what he thought denuclearization meant in terms of North Korea and he used a definition that was what most people were using at the time and that is what Donald Trump was finding fault with today when he was talking about the so-called Libya model it was an exchange on Fox News John Bolton had..

"Welcome back president trump later. Today is scheduled to have a meeting with his top security officials on the negotiations. This is the United States is having with the Taliban over Afghanistan. That's for months. US officials have been meeting with Afghan Taliban leaders to hammer out a peace deal for president trump ending the eighteen year war in Afghanistan would pave the way for him to fulfill a campaign promise to get all US troops out of the country but getting a peace deal done meant sitting down with Taliban leaders and that is something that Bolton would never want to do the issue of a meeting with the Taliban Afghan government leaders is definitely the proverbial straw that broke the camel's back here in the relationship between trump and Bolton. The irony here is sort of is that there's not a lot of disagreement between the two of them on Afghan Policy Bolton is supportive of withdrawing growing troops which has been one of trump's main foreign policy goals going back to the two thousand sixteen campaign he was adamant about his opposition to that war and you know it is now the longest running war in US history quite a bit longer than our involvement. I'm and Vietnam and SA- trump wants out there. He's tried a few different ways. He hasn't quite figured out how to do that but Bolton has been supportive of going down the number of troops in the in the country. What bull doesn't want to do is make a deal that involves not just the Taliban but also the Afghan government his position on all of this has been that trump can draw down the troops that the US can make their own decisions about what to do or not do their without any the agreement formalized. He doesn't trust the Taliban. Entrust Afghan leaders is worried about the the credibility of the United States. If we kind of formalized that deal and formalize is our trust their Kabul. There was a suicide car bomb that went off on Thursday. One American can soldier was killed. Eleven others were killed his name Army Sergeant First Class at least Baretto Ortiz president trump resin saw firsthand Bolton's point point when a car bomb went off in Afghanistan last week and killed a dozen people including an American soldier which is what the president has said sort of precipitated his decision listen to call off those meetings on Saturday night trump announced that a previously unknown meeting with the Taliban at Camp David was cancelled and and the goal behind all of those talks the peace deal that had been months in the making was off to for Bolton this moment affirmed what he had been telling the president all along that car-bomb in the presence decision to call it those meetings Heaven Bolden John Bolton to double down on his opposition to any of these formal the agreements not only was Bolton privately opposed his aides went out and talked about his opposition publicly saying that Bolton had never ever supported this peace deal trump wanted this deal he wanted the good press about this deal and having an advisor go out and publicly Panit. That's a step too far. The got to the point where bulletin just wouldn't fall in line you know came to a head in the Oval Office on Monday in a pretty heated exchange where the president wanted him to fall Hainan and help them carry out his decision and Jumba telling you he wouldn't do it and offer to resign so so then when the senior officials who were made aware of Bolton's resignation before the tweet went out it caught them off guard okay so it took people by surprise but trump has said in the past that he and Bolton have clashed over policy right and so there's a way in which there's an inevitability not that this relationship could disintegrate which it did. Oh absolutely how do you say that they were shocked but not surprised no-one was expecting jumbled into resigned today but it's been a long time coming if the disagreements were only Afghanistan I think bold new still be national security advisor accumulation of of events here trump's tired of defending Bolton and boy I mean the anniversary of nine eleven of all this coming to ahead right at the anniversary of nine eleven. I mean at the very least just goes to show how this entanglement in the Middle East East continues to be front and center in US foreign policy and politics and decision making the White House what does Bolton's departure mean for us foreign policy going forward going forward. There's one last hawk in the room for President Trump and definitely removes an obstacle obstacle inside the West Wing to get some of these historic meetings. The president wants to be a part of there is some idea I've heard expressed a little bit in Washington here that maybe this makes. North Korea a little more likely with him out of the way maybe North Korea's a little more likely to strike a deal with president trump if they know jumbled. N- is no longer in the White House today. President trump addressed Bolton's departure. May you know John's known as a tough guy. He's so tough you got us into Iraq. That's tough off and they'll Bolton claimed he had quit trump said he actually fired him including disagree with some of your tactics and some of your I dea and I wish you well but I'd like you to submit your resignation and he did that. He also spoke about Bolton's relationships within the White House but he wasn't getting along with people in the administration that I consider very important and I hope we we've left in good stead but maybe we haven't having maybe we haven't. That's all for today. Wednesday September eleventh the Journal is a CO production of Gimblett and the Wall Street Journal..

"So the question about Bolton's ouster is whether it reflects deeper divides inside the trump administration about foreign policy itself or whether this was just interpersonal conflict and it's not totally clear so you get Mike Pompeo who is fairly hawkish on foreign policy himself saying he disagreed with Bolton many times he always he looks happy about out this so maybe he was just an interpersonal conflict. Can you describe your working relationship with Josh Bolten as it was today and also does this is his departure making it easier for unity your job and the administration to accomplish the president's foreign policy agenda. I don't talk the workings of how how this all goes. We we have our candid finish. There were many times ambassador Bolton. I disagreed that's to be sure but that's true for lots of the people who with whom I interact case so pompeo obviously had some interpersonal problems and people like Lindsey Graham who are close to administration also close to Bolton. He says it was probably coming because this is as much a personality conflict as anything else. He says the president had gotten into a situation where he didn't like reading about some stuff in the paper. It got to be a breakdown of trust. That had pretty well. Oh shut down the policy process among national security agencies at the White House those outside the inner sanctum were stunned when trump's tweet appeared at the Pentagon there were cheers when pompeo appeared unrelated unrelated new unrelated news briefing shortly after trump's tweet he rebuffed frantic questions about Bolton saying he would not talk about the administration's. Working Steve Mnuchin also looked pretty pleased over at the Treasury three department and he sort of blamed this on the variant views of trump and Bolton on the Iraq war which makes zero sense considering that the United States does not have a lot going on Iraq at this point as compared with Afghanistan the one thing I would just say follow up president's been very clear on this. The presence view of the Iraq war and Ambassador Bolton's was very a different the president's made so there's apparently a long list of people inside the White House just didn't like Bolton very much on a personal level apparently including melania trump pence hence Mulvaney POMPEO MNUCHIN and other Defense Department officials so maybe this was all interpersonal. That's my hope is that this was all interpersonal. I fear that this is reflective of a move to the left by the trump administration on foreign policy or at least a move toward a more isolationist sentiment by the by the trump administration so Tucker Carlson to take an example was celebrating boltons ouster last night you can see he's very happy about all. This is Tucker and Tucker suggested. I think ridiculously that Bolton is a man of the left which is just bizarre insane like like there's no evidence whatsoever. That Bolton is a left winger. I mean really just left loves John Bolton. I'm missing it if you're wondering why so many progressives are morning. Bolton's firing firing tonight it's because Bolton himself fundamentally was a man of the left. There was not a human problem. John Bolton wasn't totally convinced could be unsolved with the brute force of government. That's an assumption of the left not the right. Don't want the mustache full you John. Bolton was one of the most progressive people in the trump administration ministration and by the way naturally once he was esconced their Bolton promoted Obama loyalists within the National Security Council. That shouldn't surprise you either okay I. I don't know what but this is referring to. I mean seriously John Bolton is a man of the left and the left was morning him yesterday. Nobody just happy there was cast inside the trump administration. I don't know anybody on the left who is thrilled. What about John Bolton I mean. Do you remember how upset they were. John Bolton was hired. They went nuts. They went nuts rand. Paul of course plays the tune. He says that the threat of war has diminished with Bolton gone. Let me just make something clear here here. This notion that John Bolton is going around stumping for war. If that were the case wouldn't there have been a little more war under John Bolton because one of the things that I've noticed is the John Bolton mainly mainly stymied president trump from crap deal with the North Koreans. He's apparently ready to sign an agreement with the North Koreans in which the United States would stop military exercises would start to withdraw some of its joint joint exercises with the South Koreans would ease some of the economic burden on North Korea in return for empty promises and Bolton was like no that's a bad idea and then Bolton also undermined the negotiations with Iran that were going on that would have presumably returned the United States to something resembling the Iran nuclear lear deal from which trump withdrew in the first place and then Bolton was standing strong against the Taliban deal. Okay in none of these cases was wore the the alternative in none of these cases with Bolton Holton stumping for full-scale war with any of these places so this is all abundant. This is Straw man crap. Here's Rand Paul spewing it. I think the threat of war around the world what is greatly diminished with Bolton out of the White House I think he had a naive point of view for the world that we should topple regimes everywhere and institute Democratic Credit Governments and we would make the world perfect remake the world and our image and frankly just doesn't work that way. There's a lot of history of getting rid of strong men in the Middle East and having they're replaced by vacuums or chaos or actually making the place more hospitable for terrorist training again you can criticize Americans his interventionist foreign policy but doing this whole thing about how America is less likely to go to war now the John Bolton is out there to America goes to war America goes to war precipitously and and America goes to war reactively after nine eleven it was reactive and then it became precipitous. Are You more fearful that the trump administration is going to go to war reactively or precipitously my fear is that we will go to war reactively. We won't do enough. We'll be attacked and then we'll be forced into a position of doing something and so far that's been trump's tendency one of the things about ah active foreign policy is sometimes you forestall war by preventing the conditions that lead to an outbreak in the first place the sort of preemptive strategy of interventionism in foreign in policy that was pushing is that can be replaced by a different sort of isolationist foreign policy now that Bolton is out that remains to be seen and I think that how we view nine eleven has something to do with that I do. I mean I think that the relative unanimity that we saw in the aftermath of nine eleven has faded and now we are back to the Clinton era arguments that took place frankly think we're back to those arguments and as soon as two thousand eight two thousand nine when Barack Obama was elected but to see that sort of cross party lines is at the very least somewhat disturbing. I would prefer to think and I think realistically that the trump administration is not going to suddenly embrace all sorts of deals with the world's worst regimes. At least I hope not instead. I think that the trump administration this was just about interpersonal conflict conflict at least is my hope. I will say this when Ron is celebrating the ouster of an American advisor. That's probably not a great thing. According to the Associated Press runs president urged the United States on Wednesday to quote put warmongers aside as tensions royal the Persian Gulf amid an escalating crisis between Washington Theron in the wake of collapsing nuclear deals with world powers Assan Ruhani his remarks signalled approval of trump's abrupt dismissal of John. Bolton is National Security Advisor. I've a general rule anything. The polices around is bad had the reason I say this is because Ron is run by evil evil people who have pursued awful violence in the region against American allies against against various sovereign countries know whenever whenever you are again Iran celebrating is not a good thing for the United States as he general can meanwhile breath over in North Carolina. There was a special election last night. The Democrats were hoping very much like that Georgia district where Jon Ossoff ran and lost that they were gonNA pull out a surprise victory in a heavy red district this this district was won by President Trump in two thousand sixteen by twelve points well last night. The district is one again by a Republican. It's been held by Republican Republican for something like forty years. It was won by two according to The New York Times. Dan Bishop Republicans State Senator scored a narrow victory on Tuesday in a special house election in North Carolina that demonstrated straighted trump's appeal with his political base but also highlighted his party's deepening unpopularity with suburban voters bishop defeated Dan McCready a moderate Democrat one day after trump made a full-throated plea for support for the Republican at a rally on the conservative end of a Charlottesville district which the president carried by nearly twelve points in two thousand sixteen with most votes counted as of Tuesday night bishop was ahead by about two percentage points according to the Associated Press the fierce fight for the Ninth Congressional district also brought to an end a tortured political drama the a two thousand eighteen momentum race for the seat in which McCreevy barely loss against a different republican was questioned for months because of evidence of election fraud on the GOP side. That election was thrown out in a special election had to be held in the Democrat lost actually buy more votes than the Democrat lost the first time around so the question is what kind of bill whether this is president trump believes is that this is a bellwether for coming Republican victory in twenty twenty and he tweeted out as much he tweeted. Dan Bishop was down seventeen points three weeks ago. He then asked me for help. We changed his strategy together and he ran a great race big rally last night now. It looks like he is going to win. CNN AND MSNBC are moving their big studio equipment and talent out stay tuned trump is obviously correct ed. CNN MSNBC were in mourning last night. It's always amusing to watch as as president trump takes credit for victory and casts blame whenever there is a loss. I really doubt that official lost. You'd have been like well you know when in there just didn't help wasn't gonna go that way but trump is correct that his last minute push must have helped bishop. Now's a slim close race from gets out the base. He's a formidable political figure getting out the base as I am fond of saying winning an election in the United States is about two things making it unpalatable to vote for your opponents and making it very palatable for people to vote for you. Trump is fantastic at the former and he is not phenomenal at the ladder getting people to vote for him however he does drive out the base and there are a lot of people who show up to vote against him button special election where turnout is going to be low trump's presence. There may have been the turning point for for the for the Republican in this race bishop now. Is it true that Bishop was down. Seventeen points a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen any data that supports that he was a pretty close race for weeks and months but still trump helped mean trump showing up and rallying helped and that's why I said yesterday on the show that president trump's rally was good moment for trump. It looked a lot like what twenty twenty has to look like him touting his economic record and him pointing at Democrats and suggesting that they are indeed incredibly radical the Democrats only lost narrowly because they were running a blue dog Democrat in this race. They're running a an ex military member who was fairly moderate on a lot of push button policies and that guy only lost two now the possibility years the Democrats failed to take the lesson wasn't Democrats should take is if we run a very good candidate in a red district it turns purple and we run a very good. Democrat candidate in a Purple District Attorney's blue in other words they should be running more towards the center and not Proclaiming Progressive Progressive Policy as the bill endo but it seems like they're taking the opposite message. which is I guess we didn't get out our base enough so for example you get this article from The Washington? Shington posts Philip bump quote are moderate Democratic candidates. The safe bet they used to be his impression. Is that what Democrats really needs to do. Excuse the Progressive Left. That's that's the lesson you took out of. NC Nine you get in the wrong. If the only reason that was a competitive race is because Democrats ran a very good candidate in that race against a somewhat we Republican candidate in a time when Republicans are not overwhelmingly popular but if Democrats had run in that district they lose by thirty right but a lot of Democrats are taking the wrong message so Philip bump says since Barack Obama was elected president in two thousand eight. There's been a slow uptick in Americans. reportings satisfaction with how things are going in the country. You can see that in the Gallup polling over over the course of two thousand eight. Gallup data indicated that on average fifteen percents of Americans were satisfied with how things were going in two thousand nine that to an average of twenty six percents before slipping back into the upper teams by two thousand eleven by Obama's last year in office. The average was twenty seven percent which carried into two thousand seventeen president trump's first year in office in two thousand eighteen. The figure is over thirty percent percent so far this year. The average has fallen slightly. I love that he's attributing this to politics. Okay the fact is that this has nothing to do with politics and everything to do with how the economy is going in in other words when the economy sucks satisfaction goes down and when the economy gets better satisfaction goes up but bump says during the nineteen nineties views of satisfaction among Democrats and Republicans generally tracked with one another starting in two thousand one when George W. Bush became president democratic satisfaction tanked while Republicans remained confident with how things were going at least until Bush was reelected then the Iraq war and the.

"Here. It seems like Bolton did ultimately have an outsized influence over these huge foreign policy issues that you just outlined he wanted the US to be out of the Iran nuclear deal the US now out he opposed peace talks with Kim Jong. ooh In North Korea. Those talks have more or less stall right. He was a peace deal with Taliban. The president just said those over not bad yeah in some ways that's true obviously but it depends on the issue on Iran for instance and I'm not looking that hurt Iran at all. I'm looking to have Iran say no nuclear the weapons we have enough problems in this world right now with nuclear weapons no nuclear weapons for rent and I think we'll make a deal. He was pushing on an open door. The President agreed with John Bolton's Walton's view of the Iran nuclear deal. They both thought it was a terrible idea that it was giving around too much leeway and that they should get out so they agreed on that but they didn't agree agree on for instance regime change. That's something that Bolton has always favored in. Iran presidents now publicly said several times. I'm not foraging change. These are great. People it has a chance has to be a great country with the same leadership. We're not looking for regime change. I just want to make that clear. We're looking for no nuclear weapons. If you look on your career you're right. The talks are stalled that certainly pleased John Bolton because he thought that their counterproductive and dangerous but probably wasn't because of him. It was really more because of Kim. I'm not coming to the table with anything meaningful so in a lot of ways John Bolton did have a lot of influence particularly help for instance holding out of some treaties like the IMF treaty with Russia but his successors were in areas where he was working with the presence own instinct where he was going in the same direction. We got in trouble. It was where he was fighting against the tide. I'm struck struck by the fact that the thing you say the president liked most about Bolton. His pugilist is combative style is also kind of a cost Bolton his job right yeah I mean. This is something that people said even seventeen months ago when he was hired you know winning was. I don't know those two in a room. The inevitable clash flash is going to eventually drive the part to some people. It's surprising that it took this long but he viewed his job as how to stop bad deals from happening within minutes of his resigning. I talk with the person who's close to Bolton and said look for seventeen months. The John Bolt was national security adviser. There are no bad deals. That's his view and and you know we've seen this before where people who surround the president view their job as stopping the president from doing things they consider be bad right in REX Tillerson's case for instance. It was the only around he wanted to stop the president for being too combative in the world. John Bolton wanted to stop the president from being too naive and his view to willing to get in bed with with bad actors who can't be trusted in both cases. It didn't end up well to boone is leaving with all these same. Foreign policy matters largely unresolved which is a problem for the next national security adviser. So what do you think is happening next. And what can you tell us about who you suspect the president will choose for that job and what it will tell us us about how he's thinking about those issues right exactly. I mean the the president said today that he will name somebody next week. Now it suggests he has perhaps somebody in mind wind and one of the names for instance. We've heard is a guy named Steve. Steve Begin is a former George W Bush administration official who has been president trump's chief negotiator later with the North Koreans. I fully understand the importance of this job. The issues are tough and they will be tough to resolve the president has created an opening in it's one that we must take by seizing every possible opportunity to realize the vision for a peaceful future breath for the people of North Korea that would seem to tell you if he picks big and that he's looking for somebody on the opposite side of Bolton when it comes to some of these diplomacy issues somebody who's willing to you talk with some of these bad actors order to try to negotiate some sort of an agreement on the other hand if he picks a different figure somebody who's more hard lined like John Bolton. Maybe you'll the policies won't change. The question really would be more about personality and fit and chemistry so we're looking to see who choices because I think it will be telling in figuring out where the president will go in this next year before the election.

"No one wants around themselves with people who constantly questioned everything they know everything they do but in this case I mean look at look at what trump is successfully done. He immediately gets rid of people who challenge him. He gets rid of people who he deems too ambitious. Who might want to outshine him in the administration just to give you a little history lesson and it's very recent history trump has had three national security advisers? Bolton Michael Flynn and HR McMaster and one of them was a criminal so he couldn't hold on line. Well you know easily identifiable under our system and there's been nothing but chaos within his administration when it comes to other roles trump has also turned out up to Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly and Kirstin Nielsen and a national security agency director Mike Rogers. He's lost a deputy national security adviser are Katie McFarland. Oh I'm sorry Kay McFarland was a former national security adviser. I had mentioned earlier that he was replacing Bolton but that's not the case and ambassador passenger to the UN Nikki Haley Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats and his deputy. Sue Gordon left their posts last month so again it's complete and utter chaos within this administration and it just continues on and on you. Don't agree with everything trump wants. He's GonNa come for. You and everybody should have predicted because we knew from his business career that this is how was he just wants. Yes men which is which is again like I. This is something I've been saying for two years now like that. The trump supporters say that trump is an example strong alpha person. He's literally demonstration on a daily basis of every way that a man can be weak and your inability to have your views questioned is not strength Lincoln at his team of rivals. He's team of rodents. That's all slept on the sinking ship. You should be able to to disrupt the people who are smarter in their areas that you are. It doesn't mean that you have to follow what they say but you should at least listen to their advice trump when he was talking about Afghanistan. He said I take my own advice. What does that even mean. I don't know the only thing it means. Is We have a pathetic president. That's all that it means in practice so Hogan Gidley who is the press secretary for the White White House says that Charles Kupperman will be the individual temporarily replacing Bolton and we'll see how this all plays out later. We'll Sean Hannity Buddha's stuff into the White House. I think just to recover from the thought of that so let's do that. Let's take a quick break. When we you come back. We have more news for you. including people in the federal government facing insane threats by our Congress former secretary if they disagree with trump publicly the Monsanto Corporation continues to sell it herbicides called roundup but you should know that that herbicides a potential killer recent studies have linked roundup significant increases in non Hodgkin's lymphoma. That's a cancer that can be devastating to you and the people you love while roundup continues to cause is cancer. Monsanto continues to make huge profits from the sale of roundup. They will not take it off the market. Electic Miscellaneous says while bulletin live tweeting Fox News. Let's hope he doesn't find out about US on t y t live. We don't need any war criminals around here. I'm a Derby Dragon says. I feel bad about not getting Kokkinos Costco. This says between two liars. There's no truth the high guy these remember comments. ooh. The high guy says I was thinking about because we're doing all school tonight. Oh that's fun old school. Should we have a little all right. The high guy says I I mean. I always thought this administration was high school esque. This just cements it into reality. I mean really though like last week with all of the Sharpie. You know no controversy. I mean there. Were so many things even before this yes. It's high school last. They're crazy. true North Remembers Emma John and Anna it's is it Friday already. What a power panel. I don't think you can get quick comment about the video you played so really fast so we showed the kilmeade thing right and I don't watch set show. Do either of you watch that show at all regularly regularly okay so he interrupted her so she was reading off of twitter on her phone and he interrupted erupted or to say that he had been texting on his phone. Is that what the show is are. They all just like browsing their phone. That was two out of five people in the panel. We're actively disengaged gauged like magic if you're doing that in their porridge in the morning anyway so why are we even caring about their programming. I just can't imagine if like if if you were like presenting it looked over an instant. Can you imagine that used to happen on the show. Ben has his computer computer off the desk but I'm used to it. It's fine my favorite was ben would interrupt me in the middle of presenting story to tell me about what he just read online nine in regard to the story that I'm in the middle of presenting. Let me finish presenting the story anyway. I Love Ben and he's. Let's move on to the rest of the news. Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross had allegedly threatened individuals working for the Noaa with firing them if they continue into contradict donald trump and his allegations that Hurricane Doreen was going to negatively impact Alabama now this story was originally reported by The New York Times and now a couple of Democratic lawmakers are calling for Wilbur Ross to get fired which means that Donald trump will likely protect him. Let's just keep it real. Why would trump listen to democratic lawmakers but nonetheless I give them credit for speaking out representative. Paul Tonko is one of those representatives and he says quote reporting now house suggests that Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross put the safety of countless Americans at risk by compromising Americans hurricane warning system just to protect the president's ego so if these reports are true secretary. Ross needs to take responsibility and resign good luck with that now a representative. Don Byer says has quote Wilbur Ross does not deserve the trust of the American people or place in the cabinet and he should be dismissed immediately now just to give you some more details on what Ross did according to the Times Ross threaten to fire top employees at the federal scientific agency responsible for weather forecasts last Friday after the agency's. He's Birmingham off is contradicted president trump's claim that hurricane dorian might hit Alabama and this is according to people familiar with the discussion and the tweet that upset both trump and Ross was this one it said Alabama will not see any impacts from Dorian. We repeat no. Oh impacts from Hurricane Doreen will be felt across Alabama. The system will remain too Far East so the National Weather Service Service the Birmingham Division of it tweeting the truth about how Alabamans don't need to worry about Hurricane Dorian upset Donald Trump and Ross. Yeah and people were threatened with firings if they didn't change horse yeah the Bernie Sanders I think has been very rightly pointing out over the last few days that this is just another instance Sephora -tarian approach to government that whether Donald Trump told Wilbur Ross to say this or not Wilbur Ross knows who is working for and he knows that there cannot be like reality has asked to just be shaped to fit whatever trump says and to give you an idea of how dangerous is it's easy for us to look at this situation where trump mistakenly thought that a state state was gonna get hit that wasn't and when it wasn't he kept doubling down saying that it would have there was not much like risk. They're like people weren't going to be hit. But what if he said that a state was going to be hit and they're now thinking we'll do we warn people that they should perhaps. Aleve and then lose our jobs like people's lives could be on the line hypothetically glee if people were supposed to be warning about hurricanes or God knows what other natural disasters suddenly have to pretend that it's not coming because they're worried that their careers will be ended if they say something well that is authoritarian as I'm at its very core right which is infection of government institutions because of the cult because of the personality of the leader this is is nothing except just catering to his ego it serves no other governmental purpose and this is what democracy is supposed to be literally government for the People Oh by the people but right now it's government for the one by the one and it's becoming a huge problem with our institutions that are supposed to be separate bright from all of this. I mean you're a huge believer in science science. We all are but we talk about you. Talk about climate change so much like from your perspective does that this like how disturbing is this. I guess you in the particular area of climate science. I'm not super surprised that once again they're telling us that the science should matter because we know the purge urge the online databases the EPA is like a just a cruel joke about what it used to be obviously but like Republicans I do have an authoritarian approach to government the idea that all the federal bureaucracy is there to help out trump that is simply not the case there are political appointees he he gets to choose a certain number of people but there are career civil servants who last from President to President and they're there to make sure that the government works regardless. If the president is uh-huh political loyalty should not even enter into the equation and especially when it comes to anything having to do with natural disasters the actual real threats to our lives. I'm a fake made up one that we focus on a lot of the time because of the pronouncements of presidents like trump and others the idea that this would be perverted to the will of one like petulant man that is sad that should we sat for everyone. It's UN- governing so it's like making all of the institutions that are are neutral and arm of the president and the rest of it is just dismantling it so government. It doesn't work so if it's not something that's a direct trickle down from what the president wants then it's then it's basically dismantled and done away with because they don't want government to work. They want industry to run rampant and the parts that actually are supposed to be silo is government institutions. They have to be become direct arms of whatever donald trump wants one of the things just buttress the point that you're making one of the moves that Steve Mnuchin is making right now along with Donald trump is pushing for further deregulation of the housing market in order to make it even easier than it was before for the type of predatory predatory lending and the type of predatory activity we saw when it came to real estate and so this is something that's getting very little coverage. I Really WanNa talk about it on the show all prepare the story for tomorrow because it's something that is just going to happen if people in the media aren't hyper focused on the type above corrupt self-enrichment that happens in this administration and we've talked about some of that in Richmond to when it comes to trump properties. We're going to talk about that later in the show today as well but I do want to bring up one other common criticism that I'm seeing toward the media for covering the Sharpie Gate story right so look. I know it seems petty seems like in the Grand Scheme of things. Is this really a big deal trump lying about Hurricane Doria and potentially impacting Alabama look in and of itself when you consider all the other things going on. Maybe it's not the most important story I get it but it's what this story communicates to. The rest of the country tree in the rest of the world trump is willing to throw anyone and everyone under a bus just so he doesn't have to admit that he was wrong..

"And finally for all of our members as you get to ask those questions today. Emma and I will be doing the ask me anything post game. It will be open for everyone to watch however our members can submit questions wins and only our members can submit questions. Please do so by submitting questions in the chat and using the Hashtag Ama Hashtag Ama if if you don't do that we're not going to know that you're a member bidding question for the ask me anything aright with that said let's get to the news. John Bolton is no longer working for the trump administration. Now trump himself attempted to make it appear as though he fired Bolton but but of course as with anything trump says it's ally now let me give you the details of what trump tweeted and then we're going to give you the reality of how this all went down. Trump said today via twitter. I informed John Bolton last night that his services are no longer needed at the White House. I disagreed strongly with many of his suggestions as did others in the administration in a situation and therefore I ask jodphurs resignation which was given to me this morning. I think John Very much for his service. I will be naming a new national security the adviser next week well. That's not quite how things went down in fact we found out about the reality on Fox News of all places take a look bolt was on the guidance to be here so for you to blindsided by her today that he's no longer with the administration was the today the last night I go to Fox News. Then of course we heard from the just fire John Bolton saying saying that no it didn't actually play out that way. John resigned last night and president trump said. Let's talk about it tomorrow. jumbles just texted me just now. He's watching Kenya Yeah. He said let's be clear. I resigned. I said do you mind if I say that while you were talking and he wrote yes so John Boehner. Let's just told me texted me. I resigned and right prior to that. John Bolton also tweeted quote. I offered to resign last night and president and trump said let's talk about it tomorrow. Now I broke up with do insane kit for me. I quickly the opposite yeah. I do like like I just I picture then talking and they've going really poorly in trump says let's talk about the tomorrow. Okay table can save this relationship and of course. It's just like cheating. It's like the trump like is many bad things. He's all the bad things but petty is what is the most. I think for a guy who seems to care a lot about optics and his own image. He's managed to be the worst president in US history history. I mean they're everyone is always criticizing him. With the exception of power hungry members of his own administration and right wing media optics fix for him is not the traditional way that we think you know how someone's supposed to appear presidential. He wants to consistently appear strong but he's too dumb to actually appear strong so he just appears petulant and petty so the that's he's not bright enough to pull off the PR stunned that he's trying to consistently do which is that of a competent president a strong president and he doesn't know how to actually maneuver it because he's not that bright right now now Bolton no longer working in the trump. Administration is not a bad thing. Oh it's great a notable war hawk he is a warmonger. It was very clear that there were disagreements between himself. Self Donald Trump when it came to possibly invading Iran and I'm glad that trump called off an air strike in response to Iran shooting down a US rush drone. I mean in any potential conflict. The United States has Bolton has attempted to push both Donald Trump and successfully previous administrations into more war so I'm glad that Bolton's out but that's not to say that he wouldn't be replaced by someone who's even worse. I you never know oh who trump could replace them with now right now. He's being replaced by some other individual. I don't know too much about him yet. Kt McFarland is his name but it's going to be temporary and when he does get replaced by someone I'm worried it could be someone who is just as hawkish if not more hawkish than John Bolton but we'll see yeah. Let's it's also I mean it should be obvious but let's bear in mind who put John Bolton and the position was in Donald Trump. I would assume knowing all you need to know about John. Boltons reputation which is just that he's never met a group of non white people that he wants to blow up and yet he chose him and say you don't get points you get back up to zero from the negative you went it into when you chose John Bolton as adviser and the reason why he chose John Bolton is because they agreed on tearing up the Iran nuclear deal but they disagreed agreed on what to do moving forward because trump surprisingly wanted to take a more diplomatic role in negotiating with Iran whereas Bolton just wanted to invade yeah because no one who isn't this much of a warmonger doesn't wants to invade Iran. It's four times the size of Iraq. We already know how much of a disaster that was and apparently when you read more into it people. Steve Mnuchin were massaging trump's ego basically saying that you know you didn't want to go to the Iraq war into the Iraq war but but Bolton Alton did so. He's been wrong in this. Why would you trust him and Mnuchin didn't really like he was pushing for the tariffs and all of that so trump's it wasn't his anti interventionist wrench tendencies that caused him to fire bolting. Which is what ideally will? That's what we want. It was his ego per usual. Yeah I remain incredibly worried about what's what's GonNa happen with Iran because it's one thing as you rightly pointed out he canceled airstrike after okay the airstrike and he did rip up the Iran nuclear cords which material increases the the odds of a war with them and also of them developing nuclear weapons that will be used as a pretext for war with them so I mean look I guess trump is less of a hawk than John Bolton but so is virtually virtually every human that's ever lived so I don't know how much credit he deserves. I mean Lindsey Graham might be either on the same page in terms of hawkish nece but or even more pocket was rough too rough but he's not in the equation anymore so I do want to go into this next video because it features Pompeii oh Mike Pompeo oh and just pay close attention to his tone. He seems almost jovial and he does draw attention to some disagreements. Take a look Joan volgin prior get fired or quit and then he leaves the White House because he disagreed with you in particular over talking to talent so last night the president asked for Ambassador Bolton's resignation as I understand it was received this morning was it because is this disagreement. I'll leave to the president to talk about the reasons he made decision but I would say this. The presence entitled to the staff that he wants. I don't talk about the workings workings of how how this all goes we. We have our candidate finish that were many times ambassador Bolton. I disagreed that's to be sure but that's true for lots of lots of people who with whom I interact my my mission is always to make sure as I run the Department of State is to deliver America's diplomacy. I I don't I know everyone's talked about this for an awfully long time. There were definitely full of places ambassador an eye bulletin. I had different views about how we should proceed well. He has mnuchin going over his shoulder. Those are the two Amigos who basically ousted him grinning to each other talking behind the scenes. We got the guy out. It's I mean their days are numbered. We all know trump operates. We all know that trump has loyalty to no one and Mike Pompeo might think he's in trump's good graces today by sucking up to him and giving him everything he wants but one small even miss conception that trump has toward pompeo. Let's say Palm Peyot might appear to be a little too overly ambitious in the administration. You're gone a very thin line pompeo so you might be snickering and laughing now but again. Your days are numbered. Everyone's days are numbered. If you're in the trump administration but one conversation I wanted to have was Pompeo says I think the president should be able to surround himself with a bunch of yes men who enable him and do everything he wants and so my question. Shen is look. I think that it makes sense to have members of your cabinet. You know have a similar philosophy may be a similar ideology policy worldview whatever it is but you want to surround yourself with people who are willing to challenge you because no human being is perfect so let's say let's take trombone about the equation. Let's just put president perfect in you know in that position now. Even president perfect has flaws. No one's actually perfect perfect. I know that I'm not perfect. I know that I liked to be challenged on some of my preconceived notions because that helps me grow that helps me make better decisions in the executive branch. Does it make makes sense to surround yourself with a bunch of yes men if you actually want to run government correctly well that was part of the criticism of Bush right was that he surrounded himself consistently instantly with yes men because he was too intellectually curious to actually ask these questions. It's the same thing with trump times a million. He's the most intellectually in curious man on the the face of the planet and when you look more and more details about about the firing of Bolton Bolton and pompeo apparently largely agreed about how handle ron how the handle north North Korea but disagreed on how to handle trump handle and basically bolting want to push and push them push him to be more belligerent and pompeo wanted to be more sleazy about it even though their end goals were still the same more more war more brown Muslims bombed and killed indiscriminately more belligerence towards North Korea more military military-industrial complex getting enriched and more donors getting their pockets filled in terms of their you you mentioned deferring on how to handle trump I mean he demonstrated that. He knows how he's supposed to handle trump there. He knows exactly what happened with the resignation versus firing but he knows if he says that he'll probably be fired. He can't acknowledge reality because these working for four year old in a really really old body that that's it really he gets that you asked. Wouldn't you want a team of people who would question you if you wanted to run government properly yes if if that's what you wanted to do but we know that trump is that in the top twenty of his priorities. Let me just be clear. I mean you want people who might challenge you on uncertain policy proposals or executive actions. You Might WanNa take it..

"United states senate health through confirmation hearings and a majority of united states senators agree that he has the right man for the job now the issue was they need sixty votes but they couldn't ever get past fifty it was mostly in the forties republicans just wouldn't vote for the guy yet because of partisan delaying tactics by a handful of senators john was unfairly denied the upper down vote that he deserves he deserves it chase herbs it as a result america's now gone more than six months without a permanent embassador to the united nations now keep in mind this is post iraq war i mean post iraq invasion so the iraq war is going on at this time so this is sort of context and justification the momentum he uses to ram this through during a recess suppose to importantly vacant any longer especially during a war and vital debate about u n reform so today i've used my constitutional authority to appoint john bolton to serve as america's ambassador to the united nations john bolton won't be an important member of my state department team led by condoleeza rice now unfortunately for old john there it only lasted one short year because after that the democrats came in and they sweep the senate and it was no way in hell they were ever going to approve john bolton so the recess appointment had to get replaced and so john bolton had one short year they're in the state department and in that short time he managed to get himself in quite a bit of controversy after that he left and he joined the think tank system for the right he really got involved deep in foreign policy which made him a perfect candidate to become a commentator on fox news so john bolton now for many years has been a commentator on fox news.

"Welcome back to left right and center i'm josh barrow your center and senior editor business insider on the left is katrina vanden who will editor and publisher of the nation magazine on the right is michael brennan dorothy senior writer at national review on thursday president trump announced john bolton will replace general hr mcmaster as national security advisor this change had been rumored for weeks the last week press secretary sarah sanders was trying to swat down the rumors tweeting that trump in mcmaster have a good working relationship and there were quote no changes at the national security council bolton was a top official in the george w bush administration and remains unapologetic in his view that toppling saddam hussein was the right choice he's written in favor of a preemptive military strike against iran's nuclear program and has also said a first strike against north korea would be justified katrina this choice is certainly making a lot of people nervous the appointment of john bolton escalates the danger of military conflict or war with iran or north korea i mean he has record of pushing for military solutions to diplomatic problems unsurpassed and he was one of the chief advocates for the disastrous iraq war i mean he played a key role in politicizing falsifying intelligence that misled us into that war and unlike many iraq hawks he still thinks the invasion was a good idea he's been on the record about preemptive war with north korea and the wash in the wall street journal he wants to rip up the iran nuclear record which most believe offer security for the united states for the region for international community so i think it's a very dangerous act and i would say that we haven't seen as conservative right wing click around a president since cheney and rumsfeld and my last point is at striking because donald trump didn't need to believe them but he did campaign on sort of fighting these endless wars getting out of afghantistan cutting back on senseless military budgets in the middle east and that donald trump may not have ever existed but he certainly.
