UCLA rolls past UNC Asheville 86-53 in March Madness

"Princeton may be a 15th seed, but it was the superior breed of cat in a shocking south region 59 55 win over number two Arizona. Then again, the victory got a shrug of the shoulders from Tiger guard, Matt. I can't say I'm surprised, you know, this team has been so good all year, so Gritty. For the wildcats players, coach Tommy Lloyd didn't like the view. These players need to take a look in the mirror. Saturday, Princeton will face Missouri, which defeated Utah state 76 65. In the west region, northwestern eliminated Boise state 75 67, and it was UCLA 86 North Carolina Asheville 53. I'm Bruce mort

Students Leave Class of Professor Accused of Sexual Harassment

"Do you see the picture of the Harvard students who all got up because some teacher was accused of sexual harassment, and the old got up with posters like sheep. Do they know he's guilty? Has there been a hearing? Is if he was guilty would Harvard keep him in a position? I mean, I'm not taking sides. I'm just asking. Julie Hartman, who, with whom I do a podcast called Dennis and Julie, which is really, really worth watching. You watch one you are what you want to watch all nearly 50 now. This goes up every week, Venice and Julie. She graduated from Harvard. I got it. I got the from in. She graduated from Harvard from last year, she wrote a piece in The Wall Street Journal exactly a year ago. About how basically her fellow students are sheep. Talking about lockdowns and masks. You think you think the average graduate of the most elite schools in the country has courage or wisdom, any more than Boise state? I don't know who's more sheep like. The kids at Yale or the kids at Boise state would be interesting to know, isn't it?

"Welcome back to the auto collisions specialist studios joining me now. First advantage hotline. Mike bro hard. We see she. Rams dot com and ram wire insider. Mike my friend. How are you in. pg and you you know. I'm doing good a cooler weather. I'm liking it. The cool down is upon us. So i'm feeling good. I enjoy this time of year or else falls upon us. The colors changing or beautiful. I'm wondering when we're gonna get snow and all that good stuff so it's right around the corner man. I'm sure it's coming but it should be. I don't even know what the weather looks like for saturday but we should be expecting a decent weather saturday nights or saturday. Five o'clock between us issuing boise state. I don't know your 'cause. I don't get paid to talk about twenty four hours out. I'll see how i think that's the next part i. That's the next stage mike. That's the next part of the journey. All right mike talk to about. Oh it's tuesday. We're trying to turn the page. But i got to pick your brain about it craziness at the end of that issue utah state game and i know you guys have talked to coach. Well well into this about all things. Special teams Wanted to get your take though. I mean flat out. Should should steve adagio special teams coach or is it just one of those things where the guys ran out onto the field with no direction. Necessarily so i mean i was scratching my head like why would they go out there if they weren't instructed to so boy was a jumbled mess on on friday yo i wouldn't say anybody just ran out of the field about instruction there is instruction but they're obviously some wires dross and i think steve said as much you know you took the blame for it Said he's gotta make sure it's fixed and they. They spent a good portion of sunday in coaches meetings. Trying to figure out what happened and and then of course you know. I got to practice today and i know there's a narrative out there that he threw the players under the bus and honestly they're upset about that they don't feel that that took place Three or four players lockstep me because they used to work at the newspaper. There like lies this out there. I mean. we don't feel like he ever did anything to disrespect us or what we did You know they're telling you there's you know there's there's all kinds of blanchet to go around if you want assign blame but the way they're looking at it is this. This is something that happened. We wish would have happened. We addressed it to get it fixed and there are still very much together. But you know there's some players that are actually upset that they think that they're coach there under the bus. So mike on that side first off because i agree with I tend to agree with the players on this. Because i think at some point i mean these. These guys are not thirteen year olds. Fourteen year. High school kids. They know the rules of football. But i do want to ask you went back to. And you said hey. It wasn't like anybody didn't or did not instruct them one way or the other. Can you elaborate on. That side was what was the wire that got crossed. Was there something that was kind of said. That would lead them to say. Hey we're we're gonna bust out of there before any attempt to a spike we're gonna take matters in our own hands if you go back and if you watch that play. The entire offense is running down the field throwing their hands up and down that they're going to spike the ball and what the fast field goal team was instructed was if we do not get the first down We need we'll. We'll need to run out of the field into it but time to tell us catch was clearly past the first down markers you also need to remember that. On a football sideline players can only go so far. So if somebody lost perspective of worthy chains were and couldn't tell that was a first down somebody might have thought we didn't get i gotta go whereas the offense that they had time to get down and spike. There's all kinds of things. I can't tell you what went through all twenty two players minds. I do know this if you watch the film and and if you watched it live on. Tv everybody on the sideline was signalling to spike the ball. Everybody on the offense signaling despite the ball so that was the plan most. Everybody knew what was supposed to happen. And it just didn't so that's why they said we need to address this. We need to have a better way of making sure that everybody's on the same bitch talking to mike bro. Hardwood issue rams dot com and ram wire insider. It was chaos and you know my my brain initially went right to okay. Who's the special teams coach. She'll snarky whatever but then at the end of the day. I still thought to myself if if adazi oh is not calling for any head coach whether you're watching high-school college or the nfl if you don't see the head coach signal special teams coach doesn't signal so i at the indefens- of adagio in this we talked about it yesterday. I mean if he's not instructing the field goal unit to run on. I would go well. Then why did they run on in the first place so in that regard not saying whether or not i truly believe he needs a special teams but in that sense it did seem strange that for whatever reason for whatever wires the guy across the field goal unit just decided to kind of make their way maybe one guy lead the way and then the rest followed suit it is what it is at this point in time and like. I said they've they've they've attempt. They've attempted in their best interest to fix. Whatever happened to make sure that it doesn't go put in more. You know you know failsafes you know whatever it is that however you wanna word it but they went address it and now to make sure that doesn't happen against a boise state who they had special teams problems with last year and now they're trying to move past what happened so they can't focus on trying to be boise state for the first time in program history. I mean it's always crazy when you say it you know i always kinda you think about it. You know it and then you get there like wow after all these times. The rams have not been able to take care of the boise state broncos. Mike moving forward as as we're trying to do here does this. This certainly feels like the time to do it. I know boise state's had a crazy schedule. And the record is not as great as they want it to be. They've had an up and down schedule tough opponents for sure. But this isn't the same boise state as last year. Or the or the broncos that we've been seeing over the last five ten years now it's not the thing that really jumps out to me and say i know everybody thinks about boise. State is as great passing offense but what they've always had is a really really good running game to go with it and they're not they don't have that set degrees. I mean they're averaging less than one hundred yard game on the ground and you're running into a defense that is really adept at stopping the run. That's that seems to be the opening that you know you're probably looking at They haven't been able to close you know they're probably still going through some the transformation of the head coaching change. You know with hartson now at auburn and inanity outlaws running the program now so while he has ties boise state. they're still adjustment period with coming back and things get into place. But you're right. This doesn't look to be the same type of boise state team and hasn't this year They've had some mistakes that are were you would call uncharacteristic for boise state program and again to me the saints out the must they just don't have the same kind of potent running in that they've had in the past talking to mike bro. Hard with cs. Rams dot com yeah. I'll be really curious to see how this plays out and tell you mikey. It looked at second half for the rams if they can kind of put together what they started to especially that fourth but even spurts throughout the game. I mean david bailey. If he can run like you can still win a lot of football games. I know there were penalties. A lotta penalties against the rams but man if you can put it together with bailey on offense and then todd some tayo can give us something like that final drive you might be able to.

"It's crap so you no you can. You can talk about your work schedule and you're busy life all you want. You didn't dedicate your life one hundred ten percent to playing basketball. I loved basketball. Angel on ted but as soon as practice was over i went home. Play video games hung out with my friends. Girlfriends did all that stuff. These guys. don't do that these guys. Don't go out and eat taco bell all the time like i tend to do again. It's different worlds. You listen to this. Show you're separating you're separating your brain from the real world i try. I've done it on occasion. I try not to make those those comparisons. But i i also at the same on the same token i say you're gonna i mean no every is going to get this. Everybody's going to get these kind of schedules. The everybody's gonna have these crazy starts These back to back home and then you gotta get back on the plane as soon as the game's over and travel to a tough place. Everybody's gonna have it so at the same time. Yeah you do have to. You do have suck it up just like that. Broncos have to suck it up because of injuries. Nobody's gonna apologize for you in this league but the yeah the schedule so far. I mean that hasn't been fantastic. This not fantastic shot. You're fan of the nuggets and you want them to win games. I'm sorry but you're wrong. If you do not think tonight's game back to back. I mean they may win but if you think it's easy and it shouldn't matter than you're you're not watching because playing back to backs which. Why do they play back to backs. Not i'm not saying. I'm not having him happy on a tuesday night to watch the basketball. There's no football. So i'm happy world series to but why do they play back to. I hate this angel. And i can do this from the prep. Seen all the way to the pros high school football what night do they typically play on friday and then what are they play during the playoffs. Friday now play saturday saturdays. During the day you see baseball. They have serious serious serious series playoffs rossier series except for. We have a wildcard game. You know the one game to decide basketball. They do not play back to backs in the playoffs. Now once so why do they do it in this situation. I'm sure the schedule makers have a rhyme or reason. But i am not a fan of changing your season should align with what you do on a regular basis. We'll even back to backs are one thing but looking at the nuggets schedule. They play the grizzlies on the road twice in three days. Yeah the are you staying in memphis. Yeah i mean. I probably probably see. That's ridiculous when is that one is that gets in like next month next monday. Next monday at memphis wednesday there app memphis. So what do you do tuesday. go to the music. go to see what. What does elvis the museum or fame. Yeah go see that. Elvis is nice. It's pretty nice. It's a museum now right. Nobody lives there. Yeah let's get a tour in there. My mom actually went there. She's big elvis fan. Elvis guy i not really. I mean i know you know who else is I was pretty. I was probably six or seven when i did that. So yeah we were just passing through. Tennessee's it's going to graceland be cool. See my mom wind'll not too long ago. I was like a dream hers. She finally the weapon. But yeah i mean what do you. What do you do with this at minnesota today. Off in air memphis you're minnesota and then you're at memphis on your at memphis like that to me. That doesn't make a lot of sense. The home and homes don't make a lot of sense necessarily either you. Hey we're gonna go to memphis than to leave but at least the team. That's traveling there doesn't have to stay one random day you know not not in not in their home confines. I mean it's just it is interesting to me seventeen minutes after the hour..

"Yeah. And Memphis. Boise State would be a real get for them. Nobody wants to play Boise State. There's still that wild card. You know, when you the big teams are always looking for the Abilene Christians to play early in the season kind of as a tune up game, and and those schools one do the game because they get a lot of money from it. Nobody wants Boise State because Boise State can beat you. Even if they're bad. They can still beat you. For some reason. I have no idea why now. The interesting one here to me is Cincinnati. Yeah, They're big right now. Because they have a big time Coach. Yeah, that guy could leave tomorrow. That's true. Real Deal program. Now, hopefully what they're gonna say. It seems like that is a real deal. Program has kind of made it into one. No. Well, that's that's what you got to sell to him. Because look, Sec schools will be a Colin Yeah. You know once well, there's always a bigger Tuckey loses its millionth game. They're going to get rid of. I think that the third Stoops, brother, Yeah, they're going to get rid of him. Those guys failed their way to the top boy. They sure did, man. But you know, that's that's a primo league. That's the big that is the show. Okay, let's be honest. The SEC is the show right now it is. That can change your calling it big 12 is the show. No, I'm not saying big 12 the shot. I'm just saying that can change at any time. You know, I will believe this until I am dead. Okay? The Texas which may be himself in the foot have sucked for so long that being close to a decade that they felt like the only move to stay relevant because they weren't getting any better was to jump while they still had values. Well, they they won this weekend. Let's hope so. It's the first weekend you this when teams play nobody. Yeah, Except for this was once again. I understand this weekend. There were a lot of great matchups and claims and played pretty Clemson Play Georgia. That's a great matchup. Yeah, right. All right, so and so, Ernie 32nd Synopsis on Central Florida. "Football kind of circling the wagons here and not allowing anybody else to get in. And let's start here with boise state in central florida. This is going to be really interesting. Gus malzahn now back in college. Football at ucf. How do you feel about the nights. And how do you feel about gus. Malzahn at this level. Yeah actually kinda down on. Ucf van on ghosts. And i know. I think he did a good job at auburn He'd be saving three times He led that team. You know in his first season to an appearance in the national title game so to suggest that he underperformed at auburn is wrong But in my opinion You're asking a guy who's in the twilight of his career To go and be version of himself and no longer exists in this new job. Because i in my opinion it's been You know going on a decade. Now since gus malzahn has truly been the offense of bureau that i think a lot of people see him as and so. Ucf the offense of expectations. There are through the roof. I mean I obviously with scott bras. But then even with josh hypo. The last three years They were approaching. You know an average of five hundred and seventy five yards a game So i do expect gus malzahn. Who's auburn offense. Only averaged three hundred and eighty three yards a game last season to go to. Ucs and keep that standard offensively. I just think there's a little bit of a mismatch there between the expectations. And then the reality of what. Gus has actually been for the last five or six years interesting. So what do you make. Dylan gabriel in. Ucf tonight at home against the boise state team. That's got a brand new coach and some turmoil. Frankly because they were shocked to lose their coach to auburn. Yeah so we've got a Kind of a picks up on this now Cbs sports news. I think seven of us on staff. You made predictions. And i am standing alone in predicting boise state's win this game. I'm with your coat. I'm with your your coworkers on this on. Ucf big tonight. Yeah and observation regresses. And i think what i'm doing is i'm projecting my Sort of lower expectations for the maoz on era onto this week. One game But i will say. I do think that it's going to be a really good team. I think andy. Avalos is somebody. No one's really talking about somebody in our in. Our slacked read pointed out earlier. Today when you google search andy. Oslo's the boise state. Football coach is not the first person who comes up. I mean a lot of people don't don't really know what to make make of him And so But at the end of the day that's a guy who knows boy state very well. He just spent the last two years. Oregon's defensive coordinator. He's a boise lifer before that and so he actually knows a lot of these guys in this rasberry noses personnel already. Unlike gus who's had to try to get to know his personnel pretty quickly and the oslo's is very familiar with that boise program so I think they're going to be a little a little bit. Better shape right out of the gate and then the old adage to The fact the fact is you know it takes offense a little bit a little while a little bit longer to get going in the early season it does with defense And so for that reason. I think i'm you know. Sticking with my boise pick. It's probably too late to change it now. but but we'll see offered transfers on that defense will help for ucf having independent linemen and a cornerback. Coming from auburn will help that defensive. Line that secondary out tonight. I don't know. I think boise's got some question marks going on the road to the bounce house. Tonight's going to be a tough spot. What do you make. Nc state here at home against south. Florida real rough year last year but rough couple years for south florida. But it's big number. Nc state they're laying nineteen tonight at home against south florida. Ken can tell in the bulls. Do anything tonight. I don't really know what to make it. Uss and your two hundred. Jeff scott i mean obviously comes From clinton to usf last year struggles out of the gate. You're talking about a a. Usf that that won ten games. You know like four seasons. Go under Charlie strong and so We had successor as well. I think there's potential in that program. I don't know how close they are to reaching it though so i like. Nc state certainly win Haven't thought about that when it gets spread a whole lot. But i think honestly i think. Nc state should be pretty good. They're kind of sweeper for me in the acc they just bring a lot back. They dorms a very steady. You know eight wins in his sleep type of coach. And i don't think they should have any trouble covering against a us f. team. That was pretty bad last year. But you know maybe just kinda to determine that quarter. I don't know. Usf to me is too much of a mystery to really have a strong cake on on that. Spread tonight with gave for that reason. But i've seen a lot of people on. Nc state mayes nineteen just feels kind of heavy to me out of the gate with nc state. Speaking a heavy here minnesota is the game in the night hosting ohio. State got stroud starting now as a freshman freshman running back for ohio state. The gophers come back with twenty starters. Tanner morgan they're coming back with their starting offensive line. Starting running backs everything's back for. Pj flack after a really rough year. Last year. I like the gophers to hang around here. David i know everyone likes ohio state but what do you feel about the buckeyes here and the gophers can minnesota keep a close. Yeah so i got minnesota plus fourteen and a half and i think they. I think they can keep it within two touchdowns absolutely So it seems to me as though some folks kinda jumped off of The the boat at minnesota and. pj flack Because they struggled last year they went three and four However in two thousand nineteen which as we all know it was a much more normal college football season. That was an eleven when tea and you know if you really want to dive into last season to their Four losses were in overtime. And so those games go the other direction. We're talking about an eleven to minnesota team followed by a five and minnesota team during the pandemic season. So they bring it back. They've got a veteran quarterback in ten morgan. One of the best running backs in the big ten mohammad uranium. And you know how counted or they're probably gonna win the big ten But unlike a lot of teams around the country this season they do replace a lot of players. That's just the situation that those elite programs find themselves in and just maybe it takes them a couple of weeks to reach maximum operating capacity so that result like minnesota to To keep a close to win but but to cover. I would agree a couple more here. David and cbs sports. Where are you on. Virginia tech and justin fuentes has after replacing frank beamer. He's been there long enough. I feel like vortex be further along. And you've got north carolina who historically speaking been awful in week one under mac under mack brown. You got a a ton of hype coming in with sam. How with the heisman. Trophy conversation that replacing to nfl running backs into nfl. Wide receivers but huge expectations for north carolina. Here on the road. What's going on with the hokies. And what do you make a game. One deferred north carolina. Yeah another one. Where i'm kind of Against the mold. I guess Or at least against my co workers I picked virginia tech to win this game. Straight up It's going to be the most hostile environment that north carolina has played in two thousand nineteen. And i mean you could say that for anything going on the road this week but I just i. Virginia tech and really good in in openers under wednesday against good teams to And that virginia. Tech defense i think is going to be a lot better than it was last if you remember bud. Foster was the longtime defensive coordinator there under frank beamer and he stuck on with justin fuente But then last season Was the. I know that they had without bud foster and so under hamilton. There was just sort of A drop off. You know lassie's no other way to put it and they had opt out and personnel issues. Defensively i think. Virginia tech defense is probably butter and were looking at her. We're surmising just based off the last year. Statistics and so with north carolina replacing two thousand and To their top two receivers. You both caught fifty passes Another situation Kinda like i said with house stay. I think it might take you. And see a week or two longer to get adjusted offensively just due to some of the turnover.

"Ufc to sixty nine. It'll be the headline fight. No no word yet as to where the fight will take place. You would think it would take place here in vegas but i don't know it would be. It will be an unbelievable fight could be the best fight of the year in the ufc. And we've had some highly anticipated fights but obviously the leg break for conor. Mcgregor was a bummer and really stopped that fight right in its tracks. We've got some decent ones coming down. The pike some decent pay per views coming down the pike but that one will be a monster like people will definitely be circling that and being really excited to watch those guys go after it oliveira an amazing talent poor. Ea has been the interim champion. But not the champion champion in. He wants to be the champion champion desperately. So december the eleventh where we don't know but most likely i'm gonna say most likely that fight is going to happen here in vegas for the ufc. It is pushing the odds here on a wednesday. We've got a lot to common cling looking at week. One games including a game tonight and Uab against jacksonville state. I'm probably not going to be involved with this game. The line has is sixteen and a half. It's been climbing. The public has come in here and jumping on. Uab it was fifteen yesterday. It's been as high as seventeen. It's now sixteen and a half tonight with uab but a road. Favourite laying sixteen and a half. I know they're an fbi team up against an fcs team. But i'll probably watch this. I've already got one point of value in in. Ucf boise state on ucf minus four and a half of their game coming up tomorrow. The number for minnesota and ohio state is going down which is making me mad. I want that number to go up. Not down we'll talk. More about games tomorrow on a thursday in over fourteen for minnesota in ohio states. Big.

"Be the exception to that rule when it comes to the nfl. You know how many people are always experiencing withdrawal symptoms sports fans when the nfl season's over and they're like man. I can't believe that the nfl season's over now. I gotta wait a few more months. I mean they started looking into chops in terms of when the schedule comes out when the free agency period happens when of the draft or sticking plays and they can go ahead and start talking about their team. This offensive. tackle this defensive In this wide receiver which quarterback is going to be available at the other. It's not too long of a down period for those who are sports fans to all of a sudden after the super bowl was over. Start talking about football again and man. Do i miss football this that the other because you only have the dog days of the nba in the dog days of college college basketball for me. I think that's awesome. If i'm the nfl win the super bowl ends. And then next day. I want my fans i want my ticket holders. I want my season ticket holders. I want those who buy the merchandise. I want those to financially. Contribute to my billion dollar league my multi multibillion billion dollar early. i want them yearning for more. I don't ever want my fans to be like one to wallace and be like. 2021 College Football Betting Preview

"Gentleman. I have picked the brain of many times. Jay romano pro. Better here in las vegas good to be with you. Thanks for having me all right well. We finally broke the seal. Got you on the pod. And i think it's a perfect situation. Do college win. Totals because the board has been hit pretty hard. But there's still a lot of opportunities out there and we're we're obviously. The calendars turned to mid august. We are ready to go Football season's right around the corner. So i know there's a lot of plays you like a little bit off the grid but i want to start the marquee ones and it's the one that's my favorite of a mall and i've talked about it a few times on daily wager. I believe i've even mentioned it here on the podcast but i am very very big on auburn under seven now the juices move some shops or six and a half. If you want to go six plus money that's fine. It's just so tough when you get the push at seven so i prefer the seven with the juice and it all comes down to the schedule. Not the only reason but the schedules really really difficult. And you've got bama. You got an got georgia. I don't think there's any chance auburn win those games. I know rivalry game and war eagle and all that stuff with the with the iron bowl but it's just auburn is rebuilding. And they have a new coach bryan. Hartson coming in from boise. State and bonex is just not materialize into the quarterback that everyone thought he would be. Maybe a new oc. Mike bobo will unlock. I'll just kind of have to see it to believe it. So in addition to obama. Georgia am there at lsu. They have all miss at home. You know at arkansas. And then there's there's this tough spots here and it's a team that's going to be lacking on offense defense. They're calling card. So i think i don't see how they go eight and four to lose this play. Well i i would definitely recommend Playing the seven laying the juice in this situation. I almost always gonna lay the juice versus taking maybe plus one ten plus one twenty on the under. It's definitely worth the extra half a game. I'm actually high on auburn this year. However i completely agree with you. The schedule is brutal. There's just no breeders for them. I think bonex. Could you know have an improvement. This year they can play well. It's just there's just not enough wings on the schedule. It really looks like they're ceiling is seven. It's just you know when you like. You said when you go to texas. Am have to play alabama lsu home against georgia. And then at penn state week three. It's just you forgot about the penn state game. I'm glad you mentioned that. Cause at the white out game in happy valley. yeah. And i'm looking headlines there between four and a half and seven and a half point underdogs So they can exceed expectations and still not go over this win total. Yeah no. it's a lot to ask. It's certainly a lot to ask but you're so you're high on wsb. Maybe as a dog and a lot of spots throughout the season. So i know you have some places. Well but notre dame under nine talk about not soft spots on the schedule that that's certainly stands out where you'll get the irish yet. The with them again is scheduled schedule. Schedule you know. I know there are top ten ranked team coming into the season but it is just absolutely unforgiving. Weakened weak outs starting at florida state where they opened about ten and a half eleven point favorites. It's down to seven and a half eight. That's not gonna be an easy task. Going into dough campbell on a standalone game in a national televised audience. Week one with a new quarterback Jet cohn was name started earlier this week. With up and down. Wisconsin played well and times. But we'll we'll have to see how he jumped there Notre dame is starting four new offensive lineman. They returned to starters on offense. It's it's a little early in the season For that type of test. So not only would. I looked afford a states Plus the points week one just a little bonus pick right there but the under nine for the season feels like a pretty safe option

"Which i am now committing to putting in the playoff is northwestern i hate. I did this to myself. Team eleven led the nation kicks. Blocked per game was undefeated in true road games. Second worst yards per carry in their conference and did not recover and opponents fumble all year. My second playoff team. The boise state broncos team fourteen as a new head coach and twenty twenty. One had a seven game win streak had a top five defense in yards per play but was one hundred fifteenth in the nation in fourth down conversion percentage. I have marshall going to the college football player between boise and marshall elect that. We're picking up the academic profile starting and my last team fittingly academic profile theme here has had a top five passing attack in the nation in yards per attempt allowed five opponents to gain at least five hundred yards of offense had two gains with sick more with six or more turnovers lost and lead their conference in punting average. I am putting oldness into the playoffs. I love his group project. Northwestern you got this right. We're gonna smoke out back while you do all the homework. I will say i have the i have the in northwestern boise state marshall and old mess. I have the playoff that most ruins the idea that tv money rules college football like holy shit. They're putting this thing on cnbc at this point because they are boy Look at look at the next week. We're all committing right to to writing out a scenario in which this takes place so so you you had also asked i think as you holly who asked if we wanna do traits. I will open the florida then. If that's a thing you guys wanna do but if you want to stick with the four that you each have totally cool with that. My concern was that my group was going to be to normal at. I think i have escaped that fear with room to spare so. I'm good okay. Spencer are you happy with your your four. I'm arrived with them. Almost stick with them. Yeah you want to pac twelve teams. So maybe ryan. Maybe what i want to trade you for me stanford for tulsa ryan. Are you willing to first time. Those teams are ever been considered. Are you willing next. Are you willing to be up the academic profile of your admittedly less than dedicated scholarly conference by handing. Me ole miss and i will hand you effort. Let ryan have some fun. He's got well western. Will you will you. You won't do oregon for ole miss. I assume would you do oregon for buffalo. No i'll do old miss for oregon but for stanford now like i've already lived the life of carrying about stanford online for pretend and it was. That's right that's what i'm really trying to offload. Because the idea of even thinking about stanford makes me sad share. But i all i made you to be okay. Stanford for buffalo fine for the good news is wow. That's you you pull the buffalo. What you know what this is class warfare at. I'm gonna participate in. Yeah stanford yeah. I'll take buffalo all right. give be buffalo. We mean the college team correct. Okay yes ryan ryan. Yeah i'll give you organ ole miss because i want entertainment how i will take that trade. Yeah i will take that trade so so spencer. You now have app. State old mess. Michigan and michigan doesn't win the national champions. Can you seriously and have you ever seen a more chaotic selection of four facts about a football team in your life than what oldness has on the board here like top-five passing attack five hundred yards of offense on defense. Two games like six turnovers and putting average. that's nothing but big swings yet is nothing. That is nothing but russian roulette. Yeah yeah i will say. It was very challenging to put michigan on here like finding two good things about michigan from last season. What was it that bill said about kansas. They're going to get exercise and fresh air. That's right jason trades. Are you happy with your four. I have a vision. I'd like to assemble. It would require numerous moves including teams that have Artisan sought after Us i'd really like michigan. I'm gonna put I always think iowa state an western michigan on the block. Can i do that can you. Trade teams as long as you get two teams back. Yeah okay okay. So you're gonna so you're going to trade those teams and as long as one of the teams that you get back as michigan. You don't care what the other one is Yeah okay but your your two teams that are expendable or iowa state and western grid love and iowa state but. I don't think i have anything that you don't want to be clear. You're turning down. The opportunity for michigan western michigan semifinal. Just want michigan that back okay. So i would be trading a wolverine for a cyclone and changed western michelle i have tulsa golden hurricane. You looked right at me when you said that. Let's see jason's who has oregon. I have i have to i. Have i have oregon now. Okay yeah well. Since i still since i still have since i still have stanford i feel like you know. I've got my nerd. You don't have stanford you gave it to me. Give it to you for buffalo. Was like three minutes ago. Was it takes me a minute to forget exactly sixty seconds. Let's do it. Come on jason. We'll flip what's right. Who am i getting. Yeah you wanted michigan correct. Yeah just give me iowa state. I don't i don't you can give your other straight up. I'll try yeah. I'll trade michigan for iowa state lescoe. Okay ryan. I'm sure i can talk you into western michigan for oregon. Right you cannot you can. I gave up old miss. I mean you wanna talk fancy uniforms. They wear brown. I gotta tell you ryan. I would like to have western michigan. Is there anything that i can. Trade to jason. That can then go to you. I'll trade you western michigan for georgia. you can offload georgia. I figured you jump at that. How much do you hate them. Here's here's what i'll do. Here's what i will. Then i get to yell in december when they've disappointed me by hall laugh. If i come closest. I don't know i feel like i'm giving up a lot of good jokes ryan..

New Idaho Law Calls for Killing 90% of the State's Wolves

"Advocates say legislation recently passed in Idaho and Montana could wipe out years of recovery in wolf populations. Troy copy of Boise State. Public Radio has more Lawmakers in Idaho say the state's 1500 wolves are too many and threatened livestock and other wildlife. Wildlife managers say reintroducing wolves 25 years ago is benefiting ecosystems and that overall wolves don't kill large numbers of livestock. New law increases funding for professional extermination efforts and allows hunters expanded use of traps, night vision goggles and motorized chase. Bellevue Mayor Ned Burns, who is also a hunter says the new law violates ethical hunting standards. I don't necessarily know that that's the way I've ever been raised to hunt animals. "Sports package to our conference basketball championships. So we actually travel most years except for covid-19. But Northwood being a varsity e sports program with like nine different teams and Illinois being you know, your traditional basketball school. And so they did a really good job of pulling teeth Both Worlds and creating a competition that appealed to people who were fans of varsity and ecology Sports already and people who are fans of basketball who are used to seeing some of those blue blood institutions there as well. Yeah faith that part was really really cool. And you saw you saw a bunch of just phenomenal programs in Esports represented in their Maryville early on of course Mizzou and caught up in that group. We're in there as well. We we drew them in the round of eight which is never which is never a good thing. They're just they're pretty dang good. But yeah when you combine, I mean it's it's the lady in right? It's the layering of these two things together. It's pretty cool. Yeah. I was I was giving him a little crap because my my Oregon Ducks have a pretty nice rocket League team right now, and I thought that we were a prime candidate for inclusion wage. You know y'all got off easy this time. Well see that that is the other side of the college sports coin, which is there of course are the competitions and then there are the arguments about who should be in the competitions. And so we should all in college Esports be really excited that we have advanced from the no. No, this is a real thing conversation to the oh we got totally left out of that thing that we should have been a part of and there's no way they can be number one because this team is wait up your right? That's the world. We want to live in with the reg college sports. Not the no no. No, we we deserve to be here right little little kid jumping up and down in the back row trying to be seen that's not who we want to be. We want to be shouting in the front row. I love how quickly it's changed. I mean, Oregon when I was in school in 2017 had 0 e Sports infrastructure Like A League of Legends club. And that was it and I went back in February right before they shut out by the last trip and they had a whole e Sports Lounge opened up with top-of-the-line computers. They had a whole Forum with people from Ichi was their team liquid was there to Genji was there it was it was crazy to see how long I was knocking on doors. Just three years ago at everybody was like, oh, yeah, we don't really care that much and I was like, oh, okay. Well, here's here's the deal and and especially with organ and if if you're one of these folks that a different institutions like we gotta get this off the ground not enough credit goes to David gugliada who really put that on his shoulders as a graduate student and got it in dog. Most people in college sports know him as simply doc Haskell probably because their minds are plenty of the character from Tombstone Doc dog. Going to show thanks a lot. Yes. I'm excited to have you here. I want to start with talking about that tie into traditional sports package. We have the director of the Maui Invitational on the show recently tournament the Boise State competed in and he talked about how they look for the best Esports programs to pair with top sports programs. Are we going to see more opportunities open up events like that which are sort of adjacent to existing college sports event. I think we are, you know, Dan kardell and that whole group to put together the Maui Invitational, I think did it in a way that we're going to see a lot more wage. "Get Up off the bench and make his first appearance. He goes in for Nick Jackson. Air Force razor thin on the bench. Don't have a bacon raid again tonight. With that knee injury hopes to play next week against Wyoming. I was in the van. Stolen sideline left applied to Joy Shot clock at nine. Joyce guarded by Rice Man to man for Boise State. A jaywalker hits the baseline, leans in running from 10 from the left side. He missed it. Rebound. Boise State Austin Now has it. Front court gives the rice rice drives in running from Tan Got it. Job by Max Reiss. They came out on forced him to drive and he gives Boise State that 12 11 lead, which well, 46 to go first half Chi out there. Mid court out of McClintock angle Right to Joyce Joyce will dribble up now to Walker. AJ with right sided. Kaya looks down low. Joyce has a baseline right? Guarded by rice. Race backs and still with it. Bounce pass into McClintock goes up. Lay up Good, tough pass in traffic. As Joyce found McClintock Air Force leads a 13 to 12 1st, too. From a Clinton 12 18 to go. Here's a three from the left side. And it's up and it is good. And it was Max Reiss, who hit that three from the left wing on the transition. Falcons worked on that a lot. They don't want to give that up. And Joyce able to take it. I should say rights able to take advantage of makeup. Kaya, now to Joyce at the top holds up right elbow jumper is good. And we're even at 15. What a first half for Chris Joyce Joyce has 10 of the 15 Air Force points with 11 44 to go. Rice to key jab in the key, which is on the floor stops leans left hand layup. Good key. Jeff never gave up on it. He's got seven Boise State retakes the lead 17 15. 24 to go first half Goes lead by two Air Force is played. Good nine minutes here. Mika Kaya, head of the key works to the left hand's to Joyce, not a van sold out to America. Hi Left, takes it to the top of the key. Right side. Walker AJ a three and it's good from the high right a jaywalker two threes. He's got six. Falcons retake the lead. 18 17 10 58 to go first half dump inside, taken by Do trees spins in the lane. Underhand layup. No good rebound. Boise State had it. They go to the floor. And I don't know if we've got a jump ball. I think we do. We've got a time out. We'll take that 1st.

"If we do our job, right you're not permanent if we do our job poorly you are right. So so energy follows students and we do everything for students but there's always this fear. Okay, we're going to build out this Lounge, but what are we doing in two years? When all these jobs graduate? Is there who's who's responsible? Who's going to be in there? Who's going to make sure that the equipment gets up to, you know, it's like so it takes it takes somebody who can be a figurehead at a University Town. A lot of student clubs don't like that idea. Like, oh, they don't know anything about what we're doing, you know, they're going to come in here and they're going to ruin it and you know universities don't build clubhouses on campus. That's what office is for. So it takes it takes somebody with with some some history someone with some permanence on campus to calm all the fears about why we're doing this everybody's on board for for really should we do this? Yes, but but how in a way that is sustainable. That's what you need somebody with some permanence for at least that's been my experience. That's not the form the folks at LSU have done an amazing job in Washington. I've done an amazing job building it just on student energy and a little bit of oversight from from from faculty and staff, but they are rare exceptions to that Grassroots student-led type of thing in every other case that I can think of Mizzou. You see I you know, Mark Kathy do a great job down there, but but they're permanent fixtures on campus. Well Kathy was a student at the time but now she's a you know co-director and it took somebody to say no. No. No, this isn't going to I'm going to ruin us if we do this and by the way, here's how we're going to pay for it and and those folks that are permanent fixtures can get those meetings students have a difficult time. So if it's a student who dis and like why can't we do this at you know, Southwest Northern Louisiana state great school by the way, great great school fighting Hillbillies, one of my favorite schools the page. Uh, you're going to need somebody who can who can stand in the room with the dean the Provost and say no no, we're going to we're going to reclaim this classroom. And here's what we're going to use it for right and I'll take that keeps right off the keys for it. That's that's kind of where it begins you need space and usually you need a permanent staff member to help build out that space. So that's a roadblock finding finding a person who can be Advocate on campus what can students do to try and maybe find those Advocates is that just something where the the person just has to step up? The administrator has to step up or can students be maybe trying to create that connection with you know, there's quite a few courses that are being created on games on even in the journalism pathway. We had a article or a table was completely on writing in games and I'm curious if there's ways students can maybe try and create those connections if they are feeling a little like our hands are tied and we can't make anything happen without an administrator. Well, okay one one thing. This is just genuine advice. So I'm talking to a student and and I by the way, I have a lot of these phone calls and have the last number of years where somebody from a universe will call and said hey, how do we get started to do what you've done there? And by the way, I'm a student. I'm a graduate student or I'm an adjunct or whatever it is. And the the most important thing I would say is don't tell them don't tell anybody about it show them right organized a thing that someone can come and see because I don't care how good your pitch deck is it doesn't convey the emotion of what it's like to hear a crowd cheer as you know, as someone turns a dragon fight off right with just an unreal hook right? Just a novelist hook that just yanked somebody in there that they don't that you can't explain that also gnome. And cares about the in-fighting don't explain why some of your smash players, you know aren't participating in meetings because they're you know, they're kind of out there Rogue on their on their own. No one cares. No one cares about any of that fact, they don't even care about the games. They don't they don't care what the games are. If you're going to show them a game show them rocket League because everybody gets that doesn't matter that it's not legal. Legends doesn't have same. Doesn't matter and and don't show them something that they might find objectionable whenever you have an opportunity to share something with somebody share it with video share it with both of them actually seeing it share it with something emotional because any message that you give will only be sticky as it is inspiring or emotional, right? So for forever, we've stopped using it a little bit more, but we created a short 42 second video that was intended to wage. Welcome the University of Oklahoma. Mike Aguilar moved one of my absolute favorite people in the world. He and I are are very good colleagues, but this video directly poked fun at the Boise State victory over Oklahoma in the right in the 2007 Fiesta Bowl 2018 Fiesta Bowl right all the time and it was a song, Oklahoma. We hear you starting Esports welcome and we are starting the same time. Welcome to e-sports. We should play sometime then of course the Statue of Liberty The Proposal, you know, that goes have won the Fiesta Bowl our own local announcer voice-over. We mix it together and then it ends with the frame too soon. Question mark right for Sadie sports. That's what we showed people there. Like what is Esports? Here? It is we show there's just a little bit of kids gaming and playing at the very beginning of it. And then it's an football game. And then I think we we intentionally bound together the emotion of this really good event for us, right? It's it's part of our culture so that people would put those two ideas together and they'd be excited about whatever this was when they heard Esports again. We wanted them to remember this just beautiful moment right for us now and that's that was the vocabulary that long for us every campus is different. It doesn't necessarily take a rivalry like that, but they help right? Yeah. I mean we yeah, it was the only way I got any traction in 20000. I would talk to you later. Like well, we don't care like well, Washington Oregon State too and they're like, oh really? Wait. What? Oh, yeah, they they have a whole centralized student Club of up in Washington at the time or get stayed at a pretty large studio. Of and we just only had the segmented League of Legends Club. I was playing Hearthstone test matches out of a dorm room. I was like, hey, I'm competing against wash it off competing against Oregon State of competing against cow. They may have facilities and stuff like that and like oh, yeah, it's it's that it's that awareness like oh wait, we might not have been invited to the party that institutional jealousy that many of us use intentionally together in tandem to to help Inspire the people on our campus of the importance of this. So often AJ demek the director of Utah University of Utah their their arrival of ours Utah is a big rival h a n i text regularly and he's asked me and I've asked him a couple times to send pictures of the thing that they're working on our that we just put together sending pictures of our Arena cuz he's walking into a meeting and he just wants to like inspire a little bit of well, we're better than them. A little jealousy and it works. It works. I mean we we're on this all of us all schools. I've said this a million times are on the same team. We are competing with the time and attention of our campus and community and we're all in that together..

"In the world of Esports and gaming if you're already on the ecology Sports quick take feed. Thanks for subscribing. We've got a great guest for y'all today. He's dr. Chris Haskell. He's the head coach and director Varsity Sports and Associate clinical professor at Boise State University. Most people in college sports know him as simply doc Haskell probably because their minds are plenty of the character from Tombstone Doc dog. Going to show thanks a lot. Yes. Good old Doc Holliday tuberculosis. That's what I want to be remembered as he's the guy that is kind of like that guy had tuberculosis. I mean, he's a cool guy but the scene with the where he's flipping the mug around like a pistol. My all-time favorite scenes in any movie absolutely doc has been one of the leaders in college Esports four years in the 2019-2020 season. One niece is program director of the Year award as well as winning e sports coach of the year from naked the National Association of Esports coaches and directors off. The state's program is one of the most well-rounded in the country to their individual team coaches and Rocket league and OverWatch both one neyse Awards and their respective titles Boise State feels far c e sports teams in three titles wage Legends OverWatch and Rocket league and they also offer quite a few supported games with access to the practice Arena and the broadcast staff, but those players don't receive scholarships. At least at this time. The supported games are rainbow $6 a month. Hearthstone and the Battle Royale Trio of fortnite war zone and Apex as a major program The Varsity Esports ecosystem extends beyond the games themselves their opportunities for journalism students, like myself off get involved with shoutcasting and live event production as well as other various support staff roles alongside the program, what would you say is one of the few notable traditional Sports institutions to have a varsity sports team as well boys Esports was quite popular in the last decade being part of one of the coolest college football games of all time beating Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in 2007. Which is we take a known property like the Maui Invitational and we just expanded our own Mountain West Conference did that with our spring basketball tournament by adding e sports package to our conference basketball championships. The my program duck TV sports and created duck TV Esports doing shoutcasting. Right conversations in the right doors. I still feel sad every day that it didn't work out that he could stay there in that position but big institutions Financial organization It's Tricky right It's Tricky but but David G did so much legwork came brought a team to visit us to play us, you know on a road game really really a ton of work and four people out there who are like well, why can't my institution big-name Division 1 football institution have a fully supported e sports program because it takes someone to walk it in to the right conversations right to explain what it needs and what it doesn't need and and to be that champion and not nearly enough credit, you know, he's currently looking for the right in a situation for himself. But with David G is is the guy he's going to get another opportunity. I think to build something special somewhere else as well. Sadly he did. State your Oregon but his his good work is still there is good work is there yeah, he's absolutely somebody worth picking up for any and you know, this is going to be an expanding space quickly off and there's not a lot of people like David G who have actually built out ecology Sports programs at Major institutions already at are currently looking for position. So I I imagine he gets stepped up quickly well and and he's a shiny if we're speaking the Pokemon language special he's rare. He's a shiny you do all you can to get him. I'm sending him this podcast after I got finished by the way. I hope you do after you David G. Thank you for returning our my alma mater into a respectable institution and the other guy who deserves a lot of credit for that as well as David Higdon, who is the oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was bored director of the Warsaw School Sports Marketing got a job with Riot games about two years ago as Global head off. Communications and I think having somebody go from position like that right into a major position at Riot definitely helped accelerate some things too. So it's a great lens do what it takes to get these major institutions to start creating e Sports programs and to really push it along is it takes really passionate students who are in you know, David Moss as a grad student and as well as administrator like yourself like David Higdon somebody who's in those rooms that makes the call a little bit and to for them to carry in a manner as well. So I think that brings into the next question as Boise state is one of those recognizable institutions with the varsity e sports program and that's still something that Oregon still hasn't taken that jump to how do you get to see more institutions create Varsity programs and what are some of the roadblocks standing in the way of that? Woo so big institutions mitigate Financial Risk, that is just a log. Big institutions mitigate Financial Risk meaning that they're they're all on board for really good ideas. But but they they can't put themselves in a position where they can be sued and honestly when when administrators don't know enough about something they tend to act on rumor act on on speculation and they're just nervous. So what it really needs certainly at a division 1 football school like ours is it needs somebody who's permanent? No offense to students..

Scientists Say Disasters Are Teaming Up During Time Of Climate Change

"It's been a record shattering year for heat in the American West and this weekend is going to be hot too. If it seems like heat drought and wildfires are all piling together it's not your imagination scientists say climate change makes them more likely to happen at the same time. As NPR's Laura Summer reports. It takes a lot for heat to make headlines in Tucson. Arizona as Stephanie Small, House realize listening to the radio recently a couple days ago he said well, no warning for today it's only be one hundred six. Apparently. We're not over a hundred ten everybody should join the weather but this year is getting people's attention. Small House says she's president of the Arizona Farm Bureau Federation, and she also runs a cattle ranch outside of Tucson in the twenty years that I've been here on the ranch. This is probably just the second time that I remember a summer that's dry on top of the heat the entire Colorado River, which is key for Arizona's water supply has been in a twenty year drought. Is there tension in the Vermont Community Right? Now ranchy community absolutely is their stress absolutely these rare events. Are simply becoming more common says, Mogi Sunday professor of Civil Engineering Boise State University in a study in the journal Science advances he says that trend is clear over the past few decades basically routes or getting more intense and hot years or getting more hud, and the cycle between them is intensifying droughts and heat waves feed each other. He says when the soil is dry more of the sun's energy heats up the air then it's hotter making more water evaporate causing more drought. It's climate change driven cycle via have to move past that traditional thinking of heat waves and droughts and fires separately. Because they would work together they. They are the reason that we are seeing so many disasters, happening disasters like the extreme. Across the West this year, what is happening in California is a preview of what we'll see every. We need to act. Now we do not have any more minute I'm not talking about the years we do not have any more minutes to cut our emissions because in a hotter climate he says disasters are teaming up lauren summer NPR news.

Fires In California And Colorado Cover The West With Smoke

"There are nearly a hundred uncontrolled large fires burning across the western US right now in California Colorado Oregon and other states the fires have forced tens of thousands of people to flee their homes and the smoke is affecting millions as NPR's Nathan. Ross reports that is especially worrisome during this pandemic. Stephanie Christianson is a pulmonologist or a lung doctor as she puts it who's already on the frontlines of covid nineteen. She's an assistant professor at the University of California San Francisco and over the last few days and week as fires exploded around the bay area filling the air with acrid smoke sheet and some of her colleagues started asking each other. Every apocalypse packers now is it feels kind of like we're. Doctors it wasn't exactly what to expect. Going into this, the smoke from California's fires and others is blanketing most of the western US blurring skylines and creating haze from the west coast to as far east as Kansas and in that smoke is something that Christians, and says is definitely not good to be breathing particularly during a respiratory pandemic an air pollutant called PM two point five. It's this particulate matter which is really really tiny thirty times smaller than the diameter of a human hair. So it's really really small and that means that it can lodge deep into your lungs where Christians says, it can cause A. Whole host of problems that can increase the risk of as exacerbating COPD exacerbations, heart disease issues, and she says potentially cove in nineteen the viruses new enough that most of the research into links between it, an air pollution like smoke are preliminary but Christian says they do know enough to speculate that smoke inhalation could make the virus worse and it's worrying health officials and researchers all across the western US I was initially really worried about wildland firefighters Luke Montrose is an assistant professor of community and Environmental Health at a very smoky Boise State University, and served transition my thought now. To today's the first day of school at Boise State and the first day of classes for a lot of schools K. through twelve in the West in normal times. MONTROSS says during Smoky Fire Seasons schools can keep windows shut but in a year like this closed the windows and potentially increase the concentration of virus that could be spreading around the school because you're trying to reduce the amount of toxic wildfire smoke a situation he says where there's really no good choice. I'm sure of our listeners will be aware of that as well, but let's kind of go back to the beginning. And if you could just tell us a bit about how you how you go into tennis. When when did you start playing it yourself? IOS I was really young when I started alike can say three or four. When I started picking up a Racquet, my mum was always big tennis fan. We Live Right next Leo club down some actually. And I had older brother copiers over the May who started playing tennis. Mutt done some groups whoever and I just want to join followed on. So I started plan from really young age, and then kept at, it turned out to be pretty good end up going to reach school to kind of focus on the tennis from eleven to sixteen. The moved to the National Center to then a after in America so. Quiet too long tennis journey. Where are you based in America? Smooth Boise Boise State University. One by the. Scholarships and the tennis in America. Jealous, of not to mention everything else, but. At what point did you move into like coaching? When did you kind of make that decision? And how was it kind of a natural decision to make quite fraught Eva Choice? Can finished a fishing vessels are twenty. One always wanted to give it go the Proto. Get out fatty quickly. That I wasn't quite good enough. Bay I definitely didn't have the money to. Keep traveling around and doing it so i. Guess I never. It was never like a big thing in Gaul. When I was kind of inside that wild spending time with my job learning from him I kind of. Tourism Worries And Few Takers As More Utah Land Offered For Drilling, Mining

"In late two thousand. Seventeen president trump downsized to national monuments in Utah lawsuits from conservation groups and tribes are still working their way through the courts this week. The trump administration finalized plans to expand access for mining and drilling on many of those lands. The area has more an eleven billion tons of coal plus oil gas and other minerals but as nate Heggie of Mountain West News Bureau reports industry is wary of digging being in and locals are divided on whether it should brick crystal is enjoying the desert sun at a gas station just east of the town of Boulder right in the heart of grand staircase your case escalate any national monument. We're in January right now. Crystal is a local rancher and guide. WHO's lived here. Since one thousand nine hundred six and he says he welcomes. Welcome trump downsizing the monument and calling for more resource development on public lands here to open up for logging mining manufacturing. That trump is doing. I think it's a healthy thing for this country. It gets people to work with their hands. It gets people to produce things and this vast expanse of southern. Utah's Red Ed. Rock desert could produce a lot. There's coal coal seams. There's oil and gas there's some uranium there's tar sands John. FREEMUTH is a professor of public lands policy at Boise State University. He says industry has been kicking the tires of Utah's red. Rock desert for decades access to those minerals became available when president isn't it trump drastically reduced the boundaries of both bears ears and grand staircase landing national monuments but in the last two years big oil gas and mining. N- companies haven't come in yet. Freemuth says there are a lot of reasons for that. Industry is not stupid about the cost of producing things. I think they're pretty you know. L. Fairly a stood on the market and some of that stuff is deep and harder to get to are expensive to produce and in some cases there isn't much of a market demand right right now for minerals like coal and uranium so they may just stay underground but above ground. Another industry has been growing tourism. Tourism is a nope. It's a vital part of this community. Nathan Wagoner owns an outdoor gear shop in the town of Escalante tourism pumps more than one hundred and fifty million dollars into the region every year ear and employs almost half the people who live and work there most of them in the service industry and as people come to enjoy this place at different industries are popping up and foreseeing it. Just Main Street has changed in the last fifteen years and it's good to see it's good to see that in a small town in the west and that's why he so baffled that the trump administration would shrink this area's monuments and expand the potential here for mining and drilling. He says could scare away. Tourists and damage the pristine nature of this place. It's home to towering in canyons ancient petroglyphs and the clear shallow Escalante River. It runs eighty seven miles through the heart of its namesake monument. Jonathan Pack Leeann. Who Works for a local environmental nonprofit. Likes to come here some days after work getting out here for. Shell run its rejuvenating. And it's it's kind of like hitting a reset button undermined. He doesn't want to see this. Red Rock desert become a home for drilling and mining and he he may not have to. If the pending lawsuits by conservation groups and indigenous tribes are successful. The monuments will be restored and off limits to development once again for N._p._R.. News I Made Heggie an escalating Utah.
