"So i started watching the show shrill and i was watching it kind of thinking. How often is the lead character. Someone who is a woman who is fat. I appreciate what you're doing. And i know it means a lot to so many women out there. Okay so now. We're going to jump into some rapid fire questions. Amy are you ready. Yes so your work has been tweeted about a lot of celebrities. What celebrity were you most excited to see tweeting. You i have to say. Kevin bacon and lots of young kids don't know kevin bacon six degrees because joke became kevin bacon fan of my work and he shared it a couple of times And the biggest. You know claim to fame here. That a lot of people is that now Your zero degrees from kevin bacon if you if you know me right. Because he's directly written to me and shared my words. What's the best thing about. Living in. Boise idaho i would have to say the wilderness and the wild lands of the west that we have at literally out our back door. We have an extraordinary amount of public parks. Send this whole greenbelt which is beautiful. Paved walking pass along the boise river and we have tons of hiking trails in the foothills of the rocky mountains that surround us an Desert and lakes and We're super outdoorsy. People here and my family as well and that is an extraordinary gift to my children and and me. So you love rene brown. I know the woman in red white and blue love brennan brown as well So what is something. Rene has said that is really stuck with you so she says a number of extraordinary things but one of my favorite quotes of hers that i say all the time still in fact. I said it to my daughter last night as she. My thirteen year old that she tried out for a new. She's an all star softball player and pitcher and she had a trial for a new team and it was really scary. And it is. This don't shrink. Don't puff up. Just stand your sacred ground and i. That quote has touched me for a long time. I actually wrote it on my hand Before i went onstage to give my tedtalk are amy. What's your favorite size inclusive clothing brand or store. I would have to say the thrift store. So i am an avid thriftier and i have been for a long time. Most of my life The thrift store is environmentally friendly to me. I'm really a big proponent of reusing and recycling things. And i just i'm a vintage collector and lover in general a thrift and junking sort of my my favorite thing to do. It is a little bit. Trickier as a plus sized person A fat person finding less clothing any stores and you have to be really open minded About fashion and that sort of things but but now There are lots more thrift stores. They're actually some split specific. Consignment stores where you can find. Lots of Plus size clothing. And i like how easy it is on the wallet and on the earth omit the whole time. You're seeing that matt michael. Moore's thrift store song. I don't know if you're a michael moore fan. And he's like pop in tags all right. What movie do you watch. Cheer yourself up after a bad day I would have to say there are a couple..

To and kate wears birkenstocks drives to the meeting and her twenty five year old volvo with the tree. Hugger bumper stickers. She's twenty two years. Old and i know she's nervous but she comes. The only seat open at the long conference table is next to the politician. A big high in a polo shirt and penny loafers. Each other. i know your politics. And i'm not voting for you. Kid says he laughs and they both smile. We all talk late past the meeting time and again the next week we make a plan we will build trails. We will clean the boise river. We.

"Something network side jumped into it I just dove right in even my first time on the Horse, I closed my eyes right away and I. Did exactly what he told me to do. The only thing I was skeptical about was is this going to work? Is this going to be the answer to my prayers? And long story short so far it's been a great answer I wake up every morning and I do Wim Hof, briefing and bed go out to the Boise River and do Wim Hof breathing in cryotherapy and do. Haas I. do it in cold showers I do it before I go to bed and it's a great way to help regulate your body and what the em Dr Therapy did it opens up your sub conscience and all. The. Em. Dr Therapy Goto civilian world, a lot of sessions they're going to do a one hour session. Well, how they're different is aided three three hour and twenty minute sessions. So once that sub-conscious got opened up, it stayed open for a long time and they were able to pull like it was like you pull a thread may got a flood of emotions and I cried my eyes out because we're talking about shit from my childhood from the Marine Corps I buried two of my own kids already and I'm forty years old We talked about we handled that kind of trauma. We handled trauma with relationships, I mean. It was amazing. The brainwave therapy stuff to is Sarah set dot com. Is the company that they use for the brainwave stuff and you basically listen to your brain. Through a computer you you put this headband on your head, takes your brainwaves and put it through a process software, and then a play back through headphones, and you can pick what kind of instrument and it is amazing. How relaxing. You'll be all you do is close your eyes and focus on those islands. So it's very skeptical about this work, but once I tried it, I mean I I was willing to try anything at that point I just tried to fucking kill myself like I don't want to be on this guy. it's all been very effective talking about hearing your mind played back. Mine would be fucking car. Sat there too and charter manipulate the sounds like make my own music and it doesn't work. Your brainwave does not work that way. Right? We do have to break here two minute bessie or frosty. Do you. WanNa talk to Mike about anything before we go to break or ask him any questions? Finger. About jump in the The one question I have is that I can see that this is a program that you you've really got behind does he have a lot of veterans or other people that are? kind of coming back to the program, which is one of the things I see with a lot of the programs that we've. Interviewed and talk to people from is a lot of the people that go through it. Keep coming back to help after they've gone through the programs..

Right at least he's out in the fuck and chain he's in the food right? If your cat is out there he's risking his own ass to there's our and hawks. They will take your fucking cat out especially where we are man I tell you I saw it wasn't that long ago driving down by the Boise River. So this hot come down just Bam hit the water came up with Nice Trout So wow took a trout right. Eagles. Do It rentable? Yeah. These guys know they can. It's it's it's fascinating. It's again I. I you know what I've been advised before I came out here. Not Talk Well, talk well, about boys in fact people sending me notes saying just tell Joe we're full up. Women are ugly. It's like all this bullshit just say shut up about when I did that show down there I was saying to myself I was even said to the audience I said I. Get it. You guys are GonNa keep this fucking secret. Yeah. Yeah. Boys. I say it was time last. Crave fucking place. Great. fucking place I come back I don't WANNA show. Whenever. Yeah. I did shows in Houston about a month ago and I felt real scared. Afterwards I was like, what am I what am I get other people sick just tell jokes. Tough to read the crowd when everybody's wanted mask, Lotta people weren't a lot of people hanging down like on there. As a Chinstrap. chinstrap earring. Pretending. Tending. The do something say I got my got my mask and here, and now I we dodged the bullet did a whole weekend at the Houston. Probably was an awesome time hung out with Dan Crenshaw and Willy. D from the ghetto boys had a good time. It was a lot of fun. But after it was over I was like this is not worth the risk I don't want to infect anybody that I know and love and I don't want the crowd infect people and even though the like the health department cleared it and they did temperature checks and social distance and it's not. You can catch it. It's too damn contagious. Well, that's just it, and again, you can believe the science and you know but at the same time, disagree with kind of coverage and think you know what? you know if we just again going back to the whole idea of objective news, it'd be interesting to see what the coverage will be like if you know if we had objectivity in journalism and you know they but it's not gonNA happen. So I'm just talking on my ass, it's not gonNA happen. There's a there's an opening for it and I think these independent people like I was talking about cal Kalinski and Jimmy. Door in the hill and these people that are doing it with politics I. Think they've opened up the possibility that someone could do it with just just general news. You know. Politics is a very attractive way for someone to get into the game because it's it's very quick Bady. Any talk about these issues you may make a youtube show doesn't have a large boundary that you have to cross like financially in there's not a large price you have to pay because you can enter the game. All you really need is a camera it sets up, you have a background it doesn't have to be any particular kind of an interesting background and with most software tools for video editing you do a lot of Shit but honestly God we we don't you know I don't know I'd argue we last thing we need is another. Political show. Maybe but. I don't think. The last thing we need is another political show thing. Last thing we nuclear war. Well another political show is. But. I think that. A regular news shows I would like someone to do the same God damn thing with the new show but the problem is if you funded it like if I said Hey, we're going to do the Jr. News Network, we're GONNA treat news the way I treat everything in life I don't know so I asked questions and I want to real truth is and sometimes wrong. But if I'm wrong correct myself if we just did a GRE news channel Then you'd have to a bunch of fucking people and then knows if they're gonNA, share my my philosophy and take on things probably not going to. So someone's gonNA have to organically come up with a version of, and then there's the problem they're like, what's their sources? Are you going to send journalists out in the field you know and who are these journalists and what with their qualifications and how much they understand about which subject they're covering? Well, I think that is a great. You know the Great myth. It was never you never had one hundred percent objectivity right I mean it just never happened because some of the reasons you're talking about it it's just like with with intelligence reporting it. Once, you get the raw intelligence off the street. You can have an asset, tell you something, and that moment it's just raw intelligence. It doesn't have a right or left or whatever. It hasn't been through the spin cycle and then but once that intelligence report back to headquarters, and then it starts getting its way through the analysts and then it makes its way to you know others outside of the agency if if we're talking about the agency and it starts getting to the NFC know and every by the time, he finished getting through all those different cycles yet there's a suspend to it right and you've you've lost that so..

"Better conference with better facilities, better resources, which openly is gonNA equal better players I mean our final ranking this year in in Ken, Palm was seventy fifth in the country or are net was. Nine and so we were doing the right thing. I just think. There's just some of those other things you know from business up here. my job at the tough job. 'cause you're you're geographically. There's there's not a lot of players around you. But if you can get them to campus Artha civilities. Not just the the arena, the weight limits in the arena locker room, but just the student athlete cafeteria the training table. All the other things and facilities are a top three jobs in the mountain west. I I really I really believe that. So if you can get guys, here is which is the hard part getting here to see it then you can get them, and then you're gonNA. Get get guys for the right reason, and if you've got guys who who really want to get better they're gonNA be able to get better, and that's I think that's the thing excited and Dan you add. It's one of few jobs in the country where people still really care about the university care, 'cause nowadays a TV watching games on the spot, and watch the Games on on the Internet Just there's not as many people come to the gains, but you I remember when we were playing Larry. "Topping over points that we know they're becoming a threat to the towns around downstream of A lot of the reason that we don't move him is that political divide because because there is an environmental benefit of doing it and if we do the hippies win When we look at the economics of the situation large dams are ridiculously expensive to maintain to inspect and every one of them has a lifespan. at this point the Army Corps of Engineers that that has operating the infamous for lower snake river dams. The technology does not yet exist to dredge sediment out from behind those dams and move it downstream as fast as it builds up which means every day there is more and more liquefied earth behind these Vance. That is heavy material that the dams were not really designed to hold back it is and those are all dams now right and if that isn't dealt with than a breach is imminent That's that's just a fact of her. This is why dams still ways that but even then the spillway wasn't designed to deal with the amount of sediment that's possibly building up we keep on getting back and forth between drought and flood condition right which means there's no stability to the temperature of a river downstream. Yep because other issue. We saw that here with several drought years and then hundred and fifty percent of average snowpack when he was three years ago and the Army Corps of Engineers who supervised the lucky peak dam. Just above Boise was having to watch the amount of water flowing into that damn and that's just off of the Boise River. It's not a major river known by anybody outside of the region that Damn had reached capacity early in spring runoff. And they were having to open up the spillway ways more and more and more because they knew if they didn't start flooding neighborhoods. Downtown Boise would be gone right. Yeah this is. This is an issue the reason that we have these large reservoirs is so that we can harvest their energy and bursts to generate electricity That makes sense. Except that when you realize if you're not continuously harvesting you're not continuously letting it flow when the sediments is piling behind it when our climate is becoming less and less predictable that kinetic energy is a bomb it is a giant bomb the capacity to tens or hundreds of thousands of lives downstream. And just on top of that. On top of the top of the very real risk of failing breaching they are a giant target for terrorist attack And when we think about things like national security in the modern world you know the kinds of attacks that were receiving are not things like directed nuclear weapons or receiving things that come as a surprise that we'd expect where somebody decides that. Hey you know what a at an aluminum tube.

He can't shoot. It's the it's become the number. One skill and I would say I would say shooting, and then, and then passing even more than dribbling right. Like you know the passing skill is is a hard one. If you don't have it, it's really really hard to kind of develop it at this stage. And then defensively it really is more about toughness and buy in than it is necessarily about pure athletic ability. Right I mean like. If you can share, and you're and you're tough and you got good habits, and you can pass like a we can find. A way to hide weaknesses. Yeah. There's no question that's what we that's what we did. You see and there's a lot of times when we'd walk on that floor. And the other team would look down or like these guys really just a team that's won twenty games You know you go to West Virginia where we did this year? Guys Colder and those guys are probably looking down. Coaches telling us. We gotta be worried about these guys will then low behold now you're in a dogfight, because guess what all these guys they can pass handling shoot and these guys from defensive standpoint. They know the game plan over the course of seventy to seventy five defense possessions in the game. They're not going to break down and make mistakes and when we have those type of. Of guys that that really do a feel for the game and understanding the game I just think there's there's a lot of stupid in college basketball, and you can exploit stupid, and and that's what we're going to try to do. There's no money to pay anyone. Filling vacancies is almost impossible also because there's no money caleb is not being paid. The kid did try to stop the violence that was occurring in southern Idaho. Yes yes okay between the Shoshoni tribes and settlers okay he managed to negotiate a treaty which diffuse the situation for a while the treaty call for twenty three native American leaders to give thirty miles of land along the Boise River and called for the leaders to turn over criminals they captured the US lawmen it also finally put Lewiston in Idaho. Finally state capitals arrived in return the tribes got a reservation along the river with the same fishing rights as settlers and then later on we'll take that away in in the end in the end the conflict between the Shawnee and settlers continued at one point during the negotiations caleb wrote a letter to the US interior secretary in which he discussed attractive land that was designated to be under native American control apparently had a lot of viable mental minerals on it and Caleb asked the interior secretary if that piece of land could be left out of the negotiations so he in the Interior Secretary could buy it together other. Okay Secretary didn't respond. Unfortunately they agreed upon treaty didn't get much more backing from Caleb after it was signed and the National Indian Commissioner concluded it was not written properly and then it was never ratified by Congress so what is it. It's just like nothing promise agreement yeah then it would just turn out to be. Shit Lewis in still not Ida okay okay great so close during the negotiations caleb stayed in a while for Boise and I tried to stay above the fight over with a capital should be right as governor who would want to dip your toe in that historian Leonard Arrington wrote quote he tried to placate everyone by giving speeches on on his experiences in the Holy Land so saying so much while saying nothing. I bought his bullshit for a second. I was Zych. Look it's a great story doesn't have one but boise was now the territory's largest city Eddie and by far most people in Idaho lived in the south and also Kayla became friends with a guy named Henry Rix who owned a yeah who on a bunch of land that would become Boise okay now rigs and Kayla went to Louis together and that made it everyone in Lewiston think that Caleb alias had promised to switch the capital Boise sure and rigs happened to happen to have been a democratic representative who had once introduced a bill to move the capital to Boise. Okay he'd also named his son poisoning last ones real agreed so it's like the secret so the next session after the eighteen sixty three Belgian discussed the move the capital was November fourteenth eight hundred sixty four and the Boise delegation managed to push the bill through go caleb signed a quote without hesitation. Okay and Lewiston went bug fuck there is concern earned that violence would break out they threatened to split off from the north and joined the Washington territory okay and Boise responded by saying that Lewiston assume we shit and no one was living there anymore so the northerner sued signed the legislature should have to have shoot have met in January since they waited until November the bills not ballot okay but there's no supreme court sure sure so what the probate judge in Lewiston who said to Lewiston guys were right 'cause he's from Lewiston weird and then he locked up in order that the territorial seal and archives could not be removed in the Adam guarded by six armed guys so he's like Lewiston is going to be the capital forever unless you kill these men. That's right okay. He said anyone who tried to remove them would be arrested and then and Louis got the judge to either put came under house arrest or just or just some legal injunction against.

"This is mine. The Canadian voyagers went crazy to see their friends quote. It was almost ludicrous to behold these comrades hugging and kissing each other on the riverbank they celebrated the entire day at the for shotguns and had a feast of fish beaver venison in and dog meat and you don't have to eat dogmeat may come on hefty the dog. I'll tell you what I've got him to potato for the only one I love it a retriever favor. Rome was issued to the men Rama's issued check issuing rum the night ended with a grand dance by the Canadian in of voyagers quote as usual of course but things do not go well at the fort by summer of eighteen thirteen. Astra decided to give the trading post because sixty one man had died work. That's up. That's why that's a lot of good amount. He sold the Pacific for company at that point. Marie and Pierre joined up with eight and nine man be hunting party that worked for a different company okay okay they built a trading post near the mouth of Idaho's Boise River and several hunting and trapping camps in the middle of August eighteen fourteen. They camped near the Great Snake River where there were a lot of Bieber's. GotTa go with the beavers. Are It's a good thing you saw the great snake river and it's full of beavers call the great big of a river also might be great snakes. There sure a member of the party Mister Reed built a house to live in for the winter. Okay styling fucking going only guys like what are we have a house we we got a lot of things to build a house with I don't know I was thinking of burying myself in a close nearby. Tribes were Nice but when strange tribes passed by not is great not as friendly they always ask Mister Reed for guns and bullets once one shot a horse with an Arrow and stole a canoe interesting move not a great horse not necessarily part of the I am just here. I have no association to the canoe so Mr Reed built another house farther up. The river was more essential location for the hunters two houses out there sure late on nine. January friendly native American came running to the House and said some men from the Dogrib tribe had burnt the first house and we're headed their way singing a war song all right so that's the best news. It's not the best update Warsaw or a baby lullaby. They were pretty clear they burn that House and that was all wore very specific top ten stuff. This is new stuff. It was actually of course and what the Joke Marie took her. Two kids got on a horse and went to find peer who was out trapping at the time okay but it was night. She got lost lost out there. The next day storm came so she sheltered in place. She's the day after that. She sat out again and she saw smoke localizing in the direction. She was heading there so she hit again. It might be the dog rip. Try Okay. That's what I was thinking right so if you ate today now she's waited two days yeah she. She starts starts moving on the next day as you can't. Why do you have because she might not meet the Horse Hero as she came close to the hot where appear appear had been hunting a man staggered out staggers never get people he approaches her. It's one of their going to the Canadian gene hunting voyagers he was wounded and faint from loss of blood he told Marie Pierre and the other two trappers had been robbed and murdered that morning appears gone with is that true. It's the wife Beater we as for sure. He's the she's Chris. Marie put her wounded the wounded wounded hunter on the horse and ran into the forest heading back to Mr Retail House she says Christ but one hundred couldn't handle the rough ride on the horse and he fell twice that it fuck either way not fuck this guy this guy stay on the fucking horse dying that fall though that I go the second one you're like Yeah Ed. Let's just do it. I think this is the Lloyd's way saying you're not ready for ponies so Marie took them off and they can't for the day and then he died that night she put her kids on the Horse Horse and they headed out much better. Yes the kids in the Washer. She made it to Mr Reads House. Quote Mister Reed and the men were all murdered scalped and cut to pieces the the pieces is Kinda fucking brutal yeah desolation in horror steered me in the face I turned from the shocking site in agony and despair took to the woods with my my children in horse and passed the cold and lonely night without food or fire probably a good feeling Marie didn't know what to do next. It's an awkward time. I mean. We've all been there. It's just weird yeah. The snow is deep. It was very cold hold. They had no food to try to make the long journey to safety would be certain death. She was not about to let her children starve and realized she would have to go into the House House to look for food. She knew there was a stock of salted fish but didn't this is the next house okay but didn't know if the DOGRIB men had taken it also there would there could be waiting in the house for more hunters to return the next morning. She wrapped her kids in her robe K. and tied up the horse and left them and went to some ground above the house to watch and see if anything was moving. Que Son nothing so she went back drew kids who are now almost frozen. I shed no choice but to make a fire to warm. Even though it was dangerous after they were warm she rolled them up in the row began and headed for the house. God she found plenty of fish. She took as much as she could carry and headed back to the kids. They were almost frozen again. She started another fire and the need to fish the next day she went back to the house and got more fish but after that she was too overwhelmed overwhelmed and sat for three days unable to move. Let's see yeah. We go cat comb on a second. Finally she realized they had to move. She packed up everything on the horse and put the kids on the top of the load and set out leading the horse by the reins quote in this sad and helpless condition. I traveled through deep snow among the woods rocks and rugged pass for nine days until I in the horse could travel memoir. She picked a spot to rest for for the Winter Watch. She's hibernating issues going into hibernation. Lau all she can do or else. She's not gonNA yeah. That's quite a hunker. She killed the Horse of course and the also saw this coming to kill the kids to pitching for you and hung it's meet on a tree and smoked it for the winter then she built a small hut with pine behind branches long grass and Moss impact around snow to keep it warm. She did not have an axe. She did all the knife she and the kids stayed stayed in the hut for fifty three days. God Good Times. I mean I could you imagine just say I would rather it die than being with three year old for fifty three days but at least you have horse to eat the fucking non style the just the repeating of sentences same story so so it's still snowing they start back out again. Now they gotta move on the second day. She became snow blind and I was hoping she'd it had to stay in place without moving for three days. Oh Wow it's a good time. Her speiser exhausted. She got some oversight back and started to move again. She got out of the mountains and down the planes. She'd been walking for fifteen days. They barely had eaten anything for six days once on the plane. She saw smoke some ways away but she couldn't carry very her children anymore so she wrapped them in her robe and hid them k. six kids bomb seems like he used to hide kids a lot back in I mean that'd be great if you could do that now. Just put.

"But then on Saturday thought got something even more special. And so we went on this crazy hour and a half drive up into the mountains to find this hot spring that wasn't even hot. It was so shallow. You couldn't sit in it. And the people were in there. I'm like, I don't know about onto be ensuring this cesspool with you. And so we turned around and drove another hour and a half back down on the watch around the Boise river for four or five miles. They're trying just only know you'd have spoke on this kind of stuff before. And I I know the importance for myself, especially my wife of being present, even though in the back of my mind. There's like oh my gosh. You've got a laundry list of things to do. But I know that for her in one thing, I I wish I was as great as you guys are. But for me, it's one of those things where I'm I'm working on all the time to the best way that she understands my intention is by my spending quality time, whether it doesn't have to be weeks on end, but it has to be quality time where it's just her. And I know as I as I do that I show up for that it then allows me I can she'll be like, Dave go. I know you need to do this without. So I appreciate that time. Pasta and masculine presence is not just your wife's need masculine presence is tremendous for all women who are in their founded meeting their masculine presence. I actually talked about this even in the thirty day book that will do in the challenge in one frontal away about using the great great skill that masculine energy has of compartmentalization where you're able to like put something in a box in but it away and like not thinking about that using bats when you put your work away and giving yourself that great to be fully present for her with nothing else for a period of time making that decision. Eventually I've and showing up with masculine presence, which bring all teachers a lot of to men in our programs does wonders for a woman, I think it's underestimated because you've ice have your presence all the time. You don't realize how important that energy? She is. So the famine, but it allows a woman to just kind of melts away all of her stress all of our thoughts because her man brings his presence. So she can release all of the controlling directing and stuff that she's doing all week long men can do controlling directing leading women can do controlling directly leading..

And I can't imagine a federal employees that I would less likely to be cranky that an air traffic controller. I mean, this is like really important stuff. You don't want an air traffic controller sitting in that tower thinking about anything other than air safety and a five percent of their brain is sort of mad at this shutdown. And and twenty percent of the brain is how am I going to pay the Bill? The air traffic controllers union. President Paul Rinaldi said there's already a shortage of controllers that if current controllers decided to retire about nine thousand nine hundred eligible the government could be forced to restrict air traffic creating flight delays. There's no indication that that is happening. Just yet.
