"You have the right to stop in individual from taking their own lives on whatever grounds because it's not a criminal offense to do it and that means that it that functionally speaking you have a right to do it. And so that rights is recognized by the united states to act in fact and yet That they really odd thing. Is that the whole debate about assisted dying was targeted on people who wants to end their lives. But can't because they're penalized for example this battle the badness meets. His doesn't digress. After tool if on the contrary if you look at the details of the bill bobek talks about the actual administering of the help to end life. Which is in section full. Six of the bill it talks about self-medication self administering of the of the suicide medication and therefore doesn't address specifically the question of somebody who's could be paralyzed unable to do it for themselves. Which is of course the key issue with assisted dying so there is a very strict limit in that case on what the doctor can actually do to help someone. Yes all this bill does is. It allows the doctor to prescribe and to take to the patient. The medication in question but it doesn't give a license to administer it that injected or report down the individuals stretch. Let's say and that that that's that misses the point about the section to sixty one because implicitly. It seems to leave in place. The possibility that somebody could be held liable for a hundred times tonight sixty one and even more worrying day several sections in mitchell bill but i can cite them but the whole section eight has effected street Give so much. Discretion to the secretary of state of the day about the interpretation of the act at about wash at that time can be regarded as the applicable code of conduct. Full the doctors in the case. Simple the patients in the case since home that it leads open wide open the possibility that the effect of the act could be negated because the secretary of state might decide and has discretion need to do to further limits on how this can precede at. The high coach must decide but none of this addresses the great question of principle. Which is that the tournament. So not now. We have a very odd situation off. The ninety sixty one act became a nurse longer. Criminal act to attempt ordre committed suicide fine so this means that you can commit suicide a gay now we have the medical means to make ending life easy and quick and painless but at the moment the situation. Is you commit suicide. But nobody's gonna help you do so. There's always the risk of a botched suicide and you could end up in a west situation than you were in before you attempted suicide that if you bought it and if you are disabled and you cannot administer a means of suicides than you can't get help control that's the current situation at all you either or you didn't get any help patrol affect the most vulnerable people most in need of those who emiss- distressed by being unable to exercise any kind of comedy and they're the ones who precisely denied at the moment and In this bill that bans nietzsche's bill given the problem was the closed. I've mentioned about the been self-insured medication doesn't address. That what happens with this bill of a balanced mitch's is that on the one hand it introduces in order to try to block. Will the objections that they're gonna come from the that. The navy lobby the religious lobby. It introduces a very very heavy bureaucratic apparatus. The high goal to doctors and fourteen days in separate intention..

"You're tuned into the war blues on three community radio. That gorgeous track that. You heard that. I was dancing around to like a maniac in this room was. Don't you worry by electric fields from their two thousand and sixteen ep in moss spot. I n a so the long easter weekend. Which i'm still celebrating. I spoke to bob. Hawke sayyed alkyl back to introduce themselves but before we do. I want everyone to read their article and new generation of australian war criminals in mention quarterly. It's an essay that got bob hawke trolled and unfairly attacked by certain australian publications all because but bach dead to comment. On the barrington report. Barrington report is a report that outlined allegations of war crimes committed by soldiers serving with australian defence force before burbach shares. What the experience was like in the second half of our interview We want to first of all. Get to know. Becca be who is incredible person that i was so lucky to chatter. Bobek i. I'm a writer editor. On an artist. I kind of previously was a social worker youth worker And still in some capacity. I feel like. I'm involved in his goals. In like community initiatives But like bit differently. Now because i'm not organizationally bound up in a way that wasn't a post on. Which has its pros and cons. I think And yeah and then. I'm currently On a on a novel and as well as just like writing things here and there as well. Wow okay you'll pretty busy. I'm surprised you were able to squeeze in. Bob not gonna lie okay. So let's stop from the beginning like us your third culture kid. I'm not sure if you refer to yourself as such but you've moved around quite a bit where were you born. And how many places have you called home. i think i like the time if they're culture kid. I think you know. It's like one of many second constellation of terminologies unlike phrases that we try to use to approximate some sense of our complex selves right. So i think it's a good one to add to the toolkit yes. I was born in perth In a very tiny afghan community that existed there. We want the first families that moved To perth specifically chain migration So my uncle was the very first And brought along and so they over the decades more and more afghans have gathered there But it's still very small community Especially compared to the you know western sydney And dandenong communities in melbourne and sydney on on the east coast which which are way So i think really early on developed to a strong kinda of like insular island mentality where you kind of acutely aware that you are in short supply in a place like And then and then. When i was For high school. Back when i was about twelve thirteen Moved to the states To kind of be closer to My mom's side of the family To yeah in in virginia as much bigger african community Suddenly i was kinda thrown into a very different a setup where like public school. Everyone's have kind of an. It was cool for different reasons. I mean and i definitely prefer it that way in the sense of like finally being around people and not having that like weird outsider Suddenly like you know in a place like this even though it's kind of still we're not like a major city elements just one of those places like that for for whatever reason A lot of immigrants of of from from afghanistan have gathered. you know It's kinda like michigan. Like loads of arabs in michigan list of somalis in minnesota united. It's like weird and not clear. Exactly why or how it happened. But like it's cool that happened We kind of formed their communities all around. And yeah and then. I came back to australia for a unique when i was eighteen. came back to melbourne so Did you need a couple of more years than building My kind of like artistic practice on a ride early practice. And then i move back to america two years ago You know what. I found interesting. Is i my family. We came here in ninety two so it was my sister and my mom and my youngest sister haven't been born yet so i grew up in melbourne a muslim school. But i always wondered if i had grown up around like other somalis because there weren't that many of us in melbourne at that time in the early nineties i was wondering we had been raised in london or in the us in minnesota. As you said up to the somalis minnesota. I was wondering what my life had been better. And so i ask that question to you because you sort of did touch on that With things a lot easier when you found other afghanistan. I mean it's complicated but i think in some degree in some ways for sure like just having that Legibility you know where it's like. My cousins dislike are everywhere but like at the same time the flip side of that is that you know it means that you know. My uncle's taxi drivers pretty much. Said like suddenly like level of surveillance right. Like if you're out walking around with friends during the mole suddenly like this auntie or that hunting sawyer Travels around like you know the grapevine how it is so so there better be people you get before you even reach your mom's got a few calls you like what the hell iowa and i'm walking around see you i swear to god as you need to make use of the on in let me god i pray that they denver figure that out because if they do they'll be too powerful powerful and its sell us out quick no shade. But i don't want to go there so So as we've said you've moved quite a bit and it sounds like you know there are pros and cons to being around community. Has this made you think differently about what community means. What belonging means other questions that you think about For sure fisher. I feel like so much of the dilemma of of course being third culture kid rise. You're constantly striving or Like trying to find that like alternate place of belonging or that like ritual practice or group of people you can finally breathe easy with but unfortunately like the hajr is about it is the there's no resolution there's ultimate final place final resting bites. You know where where everyone around you will will fully understand those parts of you feel that when i was in australia. I always felt like really weirded out that like people didn't quiet Like all this time.

I'm not sure that it may be that this heavy rain is washing the fungus spores off, and as long as we don't have hot you will. Nice. I'm not sure fungus is going to be any worse on roses than it is going to then it has been the past. Let's have a lot of heavy rain, have what's fun. We didn't know that's what I'm saying. "J Bruckner during the studio today, by Jim campus and landscape sales. And you have heard him before he's got a twenty five year background doing everything you could imagine with turf care and lawn care and all that good stuff. And let's see John from Johns creek is with us. I John welcome to the designer yard show. And how can we help you got the creeping Jenny in my lawn? It's a small plants the leaves are about the size of a dime, and that's scalloped edges. I think it's creeping Jimmy. I'm not sure, but I want get rid of the whatever it is. Creeping Charlie you have the male version the male variety. No, it's it's there is a there is a I think it desirable plant called creeping Jenny that. Yeah, that's actually a ground cover ground cover. But so it doesn't matter. What the answer to your question? Doesn't matter. What the name is the the what matters is the right answer to your question. And that is in the springtime pretty soon. You're going to start to see those warm days fifty to sixty degrees. And that that plant is already green in it'll get a little greener. And so the the best time to go after that creeping Charlie is early in the spring with roundup or. Of. Remember roundup will kill anything comes in contact with. But usually creeping Charlie is on the fringes of your lawn. And once you kill it you need to receive those areas anyway. If you don't if it is in the grass, and you don't want to kill the grass, and you use a non I mean, selective herbicide lake Ortho. We'd be gone and that won't kill the grass. Oh, okay. I thought we'd be gone was like round up. I thought that would kill grass to know the in you. Everybody listening be very good about reading. What the bottle says nonselective means? It kills everything. Selective? Means it. It kills the target. We'd and there's a big difference. Because we always get calls in the springtime when seventy went out in the yard and started squirting dandelions with a bottle of up and. Analyst. They've got they've got a lot of dead grass, including dead dandelions. They did solve their problem. But they created a new one. So early spring is a good time to go after creeping Charlie and we do provide that service or anybody that that once that not make that mistake of using the wrong product on it. But what happens then Jim is in the summertime creeping Charlie begins to secrete a waxy residue on the leaf the leaf tissue and therefore herbicides are typically not very effective in the summer would become impervious to him. And then in the fall after a couple of of hard frosts that waxy tissue begins to break down. And that's another good time to go after. But the key and another key to this as having all the grass in those areas, very healthy. So in the creeping Charlie goes away. You have good thick grass filling in and one of the things I wanna talk about before we lose the chance to today is working on a very to take a couple more calls, and I, but I want to talk about what goes into a great turf care program. Okay. Let's talk with rigid out in Brookefield. Bridget. Thanks for hanging on. How can we help you? Hi, I'm wondering if I could play on my plant. Late by black guy Susan's hostile because the rabbit to down to the ground before they get a chance to chew them. All right. So I think one of the best products that we've used is called hinder. And that is a that is available in most of your local garden centers. Another one is called Bobek's B O B E X ask about buybacks. I heard about that. Yes. And both products were the trick though, really is to have to do repeat your application frequently. They both worked very well. It's it's basically an organic. Emulsion of mixture of. I don't know peppers in deer urine. And who knows what bats and. Something I it it smells. But once it dries, we don't smell it. But the rodents in the deer do both of those products are very effective. But you just what people do is they get the the couple of times in the beginning. And then they kind of get lazy. Or forgetful, or you don't see any rabbits runs him. Well, that must've worked right? And then one night they all move back in the in the yard. And and so you do really need to stay on top of it set your calendar to go off like every fifteen days. And if it rains a lot even quicker. Like once a week and do like every Sunday that you're planning to go out and do it. You have a nice Margarita and walk around the yard with a with ender. Yeah. You're talking black. I in my backyard dinner for ten years by ever get any because a rabbit's down all the time. Yeah. Well, you know, there's there's this lead concentrate that we all know about to that goes inside of a shotgun. Don't you start hearing at bridge in trouble? I was being funny. That's right. Failing at it. But trying. You're taking the cure for. Cheer for a rodent. Tell you what it's time. Let me remind you the accurate mortgage talking is clear right now. So we can get you're on the air four one four seven nine nine one six twenty and we got a text in there, and we will get to that too. Right. After all of this on Wisconsin's radio station, that's WTMJ different people.

"Radio today of spending a few moments with Dylan, Scott. Hey, how are you? Good good to be back. All right. So we I love it. When when people come back, and we kind of get a catch up session on what's been going on. I talked to you we visited in October of two thousand seventeen and at that time we talked about hooked. And we talked about the other music that you had had already had out. You were you guys were expecting a boy. Yes, who you wanted to name? Bo. Yeah. I wanted Bo. Vetoed on this. So I can't wait to hear about about everything that's happened. Since then first of all, let's talk about the music. We're going to get to the family stuff in a second. You got a new song? I've got a brand new song called nothing to do towns. But the town that I grew up in Louisiana bastrop Louisiana pride of Louisiana west. Yeah. Absolutely. It's a little nothing to do with the drive thru. You would ask yourself. What do people do hear anything you can do? But you know, there's actually a lot to do grew up. Things you'd find trouble to get into that. He would be the troublemaking kind. Will you never know? Okay. Well, I was trying to help you there. So I know that this is a this is a single out right now. Yes. So what I'll have you been doing besides the single. No, you got tour going on this is we're just now starting tour for the year. I took two months off because we worked so hard last year. We worked every weekend last year. So Mila November. I took off the holidays, you know, since to tell them a family, so we're just getting back right now starting touring. Got my buddy set then is coming out with me on on this nothing to do tell tour for the next couple of months. So it's exciting right now. And Steph is the guy who wrote hook cooked talked about that a little bit in our in our podcast with him. And and how he came up with these lines and stuff, and I didn't even click with me when I talk to you the last time that the there's a line in there about fishing in the dark dark band reference, and I asked him about it. He was like, yeah. That's where that came from. And and I didn't for some. Reason that didn't hit me which made me want to ask you like, I'm sure you noticed it when you when you got the song right did. Yeah. Because we play this song. I play a song every night. Dr. Yes. Because it's such a crowd pleaser. Everybody knows the song. And it's one of those songs, I promise it never gets old. I mean, even for me, I play it every night. And I still love playing nice little groove to great group to I kind of give us a little bit of a of of you. You talked about nothing to do town. What is there to do in a in a small town? Yeah. So my little small town. I mean, we we wrote full, you know, we built bonfires and hung out on night, we snuck out of the house and hung out on like you said, it's kind of trouble. We didn't do anything bad. We just kind of you know, we just made her own fun. Yeah. Yeah. But we wrote a lot of full wheelers. I mean, I'm I'm an avid hunter their hundred dot Connor. That's kind of what we do that region. Yeah. And so this is what we do. You know, there's a difference between real trouble. And in the kind of stuff that your momma gets told about a church. Exactly. Yeah. Mama. Got torture. Yeah. So let's talk about your family, and how things are going. All right. The big reveal. I mean, I'm sure everybody knows now. But what did you name the baby? Boy since since you were vetoed on Bo with with an x I wanted. My wife was to be Beckett. Now, I want his name to be Bobek Bobek. Oh. Little ring. She said it was way too redneck bay. We're from northeast Louisiana. That's what we are. But anyway that didn't work. So we just got back, and he definitely fits just Beckett. You know, that's that's it. So I like Beckett additives you ever sneak in column Bo his first, boy, I'd go I would say it. And she would give me them is real quick. Yeah. So I learned quick. So you took a couple of months off. How is it? Is it easy to just distress? When you come off the rotors it take a little bit nuts. It's it's actually very easy. I mean, I'm not really stressed on the road. You know, I used to be when he's in like a van was driving ourselves through the night. Like, no, sleep. I was I stayed pretty stressed. But you know, we've been blessed enough to have some success and we're in a bus now. And when he on a bus, it makes things a lot easier. You hop on the bus. You bus driver.

"New jersey. Good morning Ray morning. Alan, I have a good friend who had an umbrella called the Ferrari was deep red had to flower stems come up and the first one had four flowers on it. After they faded the second one at four flowers on it. After they say that they fit flannel came up on that second step. And it was like a pale red was a different color almost. I was wondering if that's a common occurrence or. Well, what happened was the plant kinda ran out of steam that last bud was was a late, bud. Didn't open with all the others. And it was just a weakling. Is it a common occurrence? No have I seen it. Yes. But very rarely. Wow. Wow. No. I do not want off. Yeah. It's not in the genes. It was in the. It was in the culture. Okay. How did he get to your house? I was at eight degrees. This morning. Where I was three and yesterday was minus four well. So people in Chicago they had much worse. Yeah. They had it worse. But we're gonna lose plants this this spring. There's going to be things out there that Article V with the with they used to be because of this. Yeah. Well, we didn't have much snow cover light snow cover. We got more snow yesterday. But even so things things like some of these new crepe myrtles say that they've brought out her. Zone seven. And you know, that was we're one zone colder. This winter them. We're rated for and that happens we've been also from time to time one zone warmer, right? Dwelled six we've had zone seven almost zone eight winner. So the plants they can't take the cold like the southern leg Nola and some of the crepe. Myrtles Sullivan hydrangea are really going to pay the price. Blooming or just surviving surviving? Well. Well. Survival someplace will died to the ground did come back and some like some of these Zale us they're selling now will not come back. Wants to some of those are definitely not hardy in zone five. So yes. This. There's there's going is going to be. Some death out there. What about hydrangea? Depends on the variety summer. Absolutely iron hardy, some some may have lost their buds. Although I doubt that because the buds have expanded yet. And some they'd be down a dead down to the ground, especially these people who planted mother's day. I'd ranges or other holiday hydrangea Z star hydrangea. They are going to. They're going to suffer. And I think I think some of the stuff that was planted in the fall is going to slap her. Yeah. New plant plants were bought in the fall. Super cold temperatures have to expect that I think yes. So anyway, and they say that these these these war Texas that are coming down. Are actually caused by the weather impact of global warming. So I don't know. I don't want to have that discussion of that. Anyway. That's the story on the Morillas. Let me move on here. Okay. I'll take care. Bye. Bye. Okay. There are some really good sales that ace this weekend. Ason Edgewater ace in Pasadena acing Glen Burnie, Costello's, eight has on sale everything in the garden department. Twenty percent off everything the bird department twenty percent off radio listeners only that is good as you're going to get in terms of a sale because it's so broad. So let me go two thousand. The money Jane. Hi there. Al good morning. Good morning. So I have a question because of a change and we've lived in our house, so the south end of Charleston for over thirty years, and we have the backyard narrow but deep backyards, and because it was stream restoration, which was great deer. Are now holding furthering in the neighborhood for the first time the back of my yard, my plants got tackled by the tier last summer. And what really was devastating is. I put my most notable dailies. I have daily Elise at the front and the back and such. But I love looking at those and they really got the day. Billy fled. Sadly. So I've got five accent. And I'll try that this spring and such. But I would I was wondering if I have some really wonderful favorites. Those into poss that I couldn't winter over like I just toss on my desk here won't. Yes. It up. But how did they really do in a incident? Nut side pot. They do fine. Okay. They do fine. I would not do the evergreen dailies. However. Dormant daily semi evergreen day. Lilies. Evergreens? I would not do the evergreens. Okay. Okay. Need the protection to the motion so forth around them? Oh, yeah. I don't think I have anything like that. Okay. Ordinary one. Any advice that what to put in there with them on my putting my regular light potting? No, your regular potting soil. However. They may need some supplemental watering, no their drought resistant, but they may need some supplemental watering if it gets really dry, and of course, I would give them. Some supplemental fertilizer like middle organized mixed with soil. Okay. Okay. Great. And somebody else had told me that if I did something like put a pin wheels or something that motion keep steer away too. Well, have you ever heard that? Yeah. People put up these CDs. They hang of the trees and so forth, but in your situation. I don't think it's gonna work. Meet people put radios outside with the motion detector Holcombe, one thing that does work to some extent are these motion detectors sprinklers. My neighbor did that he has a big he's got lots of basically crops. I mean, he's a he's a farmer, and he's got that's what he put up. So that does work. That's interesting. Okay. That has worked in some situations. But now, I would certainly not trust any of these devices. Except for Bobek's when the flower buds cover up, right? Was those stems extend you need to spray weekly. Okay. And just as bugs about to on thorough. You almost need to spray every night. You know, that's that's the lesson. I learned was by my gave hunt because it's a busy street look beautiful. And I was wondering why the ones that I can bloom and this is northern backyard. So I waited and then when I walked out there realize the funds had been just nipped off was fine. But yet they love those tender buds. And of course, the Orientals eat the buds. Okay. Okay. So they must be really delicious. Right. I know I have an they can have his way back here. I guess that. That's. But they can't have by us. I have very ordinary ones that I inherited from thirty five years. Yeah. Dan, the deer man takes care of me. Right. Right. Well, my neighbors. I live a block of weather year has just migrated because of this storm restoration work, and they've always had deer fencing and don't have a lady year fan. Yeah. My problem. So okay. Thank you so much. I'll be fun. I'll save those day lilies. All right. Let's take it from there. And if not we can talk about the possibility of an electric fence. Okay. Okay. Thank you, take care. All right. Let's go to Salisbury. Hi, diane. I. Some key catalogs in the mail, and I'm looking at Crandall asparagus this spring, and what are the catalogs is offering medium heavy and giant size plan. And then the other catalogs are just ordering the regular one type of crown or one type of route. I'm wondering if the giant one is any benefit the giant ones should be a year older. Okay. Catalogue was gurneys. Yeah. It's they should be year older and enlist their months jointly more expensive. I would get to giant. And I certainly wouldn't get the one year roots, right? Now on the. The type that they have a jersey giant and a jersey night. Those jerseys are all good, okay? They're all good, and they should be all male. That's right. That's what it says. Yeah. They're all good. I don't know one from the other via to pick. I think I go with jersey giant, right? That's what I thought. I thought I'll go with the in the giant crown also probably be better bet unless you have a huge family. You could start off with twenty five routes, right? That's what they're offering ten to twenty ten to twenty. Women are they're not doing bundles of twenty five. Let's see on the jersey giant. No, it's ten. One offer is ten plants and how much. John is thirty four ninety nine. I. Ouch. They the heavy. They have they're offering a heavy for twenty four ninety nine ten plants. Stole a lot high. Isn't it very high? All these mail. Order companies have really gone wild with the pricing. What is the return address on that catalog? Gurney is. Indiana, indiana. Okay. You see they've all been bought out by a couple of conglomerates. Right. You'll notice if you get gurneys catalog, you get a bunch of ball of and they'll have the exact same address. Oh in Indiana. And when you call one you can ask what's the status of my order with another one they'll tell you fool one company. Okay. Now, some of the garden centers use to have and we stopped selling them at ace because there wasn't as demand, but you might call around to a couple of your bigger garden centers and ask are they going to have asparagus woods. Oh, okay. And it might be much less expensive. And almost all of them will carry the jersey, and they'll probably have twenty five routes for significantly less than that. Maybe what I'll do. Then. Now, I know in the eastern shore. You don't have a lot of garden centers. Now. There's a few. I could call I can think of. Try this this Lowe's home center, lows right with there's a lows that is near the bridge. And they're really good people. Okay. Robinson s still there. Not familiar with that. All right. Well, I used to be an eastern. Oh, it may be familiar with eastern. Yeah. But you're gonna have to call around, and it may be you're just gonna have to pay the price. Come up against the same thing with strawberry plants. There are more strawberry plants, then there are asparagus. Plants in the garden centers. But more and more of them are going with a pod rather than the bundles of twenty-five Beirut, and you wanna probably get his day like neutral one. What one? Offering their well, let's see. Ernie's it was. Berry was on sixty four. Up to it right now. Okay. Daylight new tool. Agree lever bearer. And it should say day length neutral, right on all the catalogs. Yes. Janis out of. And they have quite a variety. That's still that's an independent company. Oh, okay. Yeah. Their prices might be better might they. I'll have to compare them. Yeah. Do you have a favorite strawberry? Any of the day? Lake neutral TriStar is a good one. Okay. Okay. All right. My questions. Thank you very much. Please take care. Bye. All right. Remember.
