James Lindsay: Marxist Tactics Exposed
"They know there's legitimate issues around civil rights and especially that there have been in the past So they hide in those things as radical splinter cells And then they erupt out these very intentional deliberate tactics But the key point of the lecture I gave the parliament in Europe was that when we look at western Marxism we have to look at Marxism as a system that attacks civilizations or societies And it's going to find where it can get in So in peasant societies like you had in Russia in 1917 and China like you had in 1949 it can get in through class It can work its way in through class division But in the west the marxists of the 20th century admitted it won't get in through class in America in Western Europe because we have class mobility If you work your ass off you can rise up in the structure as the marxists themselves said we see the capitalism allows people to build a better life that stabilizes the working class so they won't be a revolutionary class So they have to use the same motif but they put it in a different location So I said you don't want to think of it like with animals like with genus versus species The genus is cats in this case it's Marxism but if you think of genus as cats you got tigers you got lions you got house cats you got bobcats You got pumas They're all different kinds of cats but they're all still cats Here Marxism is one type of attack on a civilization One type of modality to take over sees control of the means of production and ruinous society And you've got class based Marxism which is classical Marxism You've got race based Marxism which is critical race theory You've got what's considered normal based Marxism and that's queer theory and the gender theory You've got based on men and women patriarchy or whatever you want to call it you got Marxist feminism It's the exact same attacks the exact same structure the exact same goals and the goal is actually just to seize power In whatever they want to do after they get power is what we're all going to get which looks a lot like eating bugs and living in pods

"Flat. It's like a Persian he does look like a Persian. Maybe he is, he's got this button nose that's flat. He's got a very luxurious mustache coming out of that nose. He's gray and white and he has eyes that look at you like you are garbage. He just looks at you and judges you and she sent me a picture of Yanni and she said Tim thinks Yanni looks like he's in the middle of the night shift and he just finished his cigarette break. That is exactly the way he looks. And I laughed at that and I started to think, do you remember in the old station when smoking was banned and then people who were smokers had to have cigarette breaks to go out and smoke by the dumpster of one door or another of the building? Our cigarette are cigarette breaks, something that people are still able to get away with. There's no other way to put it. To just get up from working, everybody else who doesn't smoke stays there, but you've got this addiction. You're a smoker. You got to go outside. I'm not busting on smokers. I'm just wondering, I don't see very many people smoking anymore. I wonder if you could just get away with the smoke break. These days. Not a lunch break, not a snack break or anything, but a smoke break. You know, it's a good question. I don't know. I don't see that many people doing it either. Now vaping, vaping is everywhere. I think you can, I think you're allowed to vape in between pushing if you're in labor. I think that's a great value. And I know about smoking. Yeah, yeah. It's so true though, me and the faces. And I'm an ex smoker. I mean, it was a million years ago, and you do feel terrible when you're lighting up in a place where you know there are non smokers and they're giving you the evil eye, but I can just remember going out the back door to leave for the day and there'd be a couple of people. Same people over by the dumpster and I just looked over and they won't make eye contact with you. I'll tell you what if you're still smoking, we're going to say a little prayer for you that you can drop it. It's a terrible, terrible habit, and a tough one to get rid of. It's bob and sherry. BuzzFeed had a thing the other day, and it was myths that people believe are true, despite the fact that they are actually very, very false, and some of them I recall as a kid and a young person. And here's the first one. Black belts have to register their fists as weapons. That is not true. They do not have to do that. I heard that as a kid, oh, he's a black belt. He's got a registry as fist oh, really. Wow, he's dangerous. The second one, there are still people who believe that getting frisky in a certain position can influence the sex of your unborn child. No. No. At least that. No, that is not true. That sounds like a scam some guy who's pulling doesn't it. You have to wait 48 hours to report somebody missing. There is no time limit. You could do it right away. You used to be true. Yeah. It used to be true? Yes. Yeah. All right. Humans only use 10% of their brain. I heard that years and years, and that is completely untrue. That is not true. You shouldn't flash your lights at a car that have their headlights off because it's actually a gang initiation right. Oh, this is an old one. That's an old one. This is totally real. Totally totally made up. Anything about MSG. I battle with my health conscious wife about this often. You know, we were told that MSG was just the worst thing in the world, and I'm not saying it's the best, but it's a cornerstone of Chinese food and it's actually not that bad for you, according to articles that I've read of recent. Shaving makes your hair grow back thicker. No, no. No, that is not true. Halloween candy is commonly laced with drugs or razor blades. No, no, no. Do you know that that razor blade thing in an apple was a big, big thing, sherry when you and I were first started. And I think I read last Halloween that there's never been a case of that in any hospital in the United States. It was all just in people. Yeah, and you know what? It scares people and it whips people into a frenzy. We're just nuts. We're just nuts. Blood is blue before it leaves your body and comes in contact with oxygen. And it's not true. Is that true? Eating carrots helps you see in the dark. You know where that came from. It came from World War II, didn't it? Yeah, so the British did they had radar, but the Germans didn't realize they had the radar and so that what they did is they said, yeah, they're eating carrots. That's why we're doing so well. So it was just a thing they floated. It was a ploy and they bought it, didn't they? They did. And then somehow it floated around to the rest of the military and the GIs brought it back. Lightning never strikes the same place twice. Yes, it does. Yes, it does. Fish only have a 5 second memory that is not true. Some fish are fed automatically on a timer and they know when dinnertime is better than your cat in some cases. That's all I need is another living thing looking at me and then looking at the clock and then looking at me, no. That's so true. And finally, detox drinks work. They do not. Later or not. Oh, you mean for a hangover for a hangover? Or detox teas or whatever. Only time can get it out of your system. Time is about to do it. It does not do it. Maybe drink a little water because you're dehydrated, if you've had too much to drink, but that's about, that's about it. All lies we've been told. It's bob and sherry. It's the stuff we wouldn't shouldn't do on the regular show. The odd gas podcast on the free bob and cherry app. Four motors, the car company has filed an application for a patent. And I'm going to tell you what the patent says and there's no word yet on when this would actually come to market, okay? They're just now applying for the patent. The patent application is called systems and methods to repossess a vehicle. Patent application. And what it is is it's software that's installed inside the car. And if you miss your car payment, the car will punish you, it'll start by disabling your automatic windows, your radio, your cruise control, and your air conditioning. Letting you know that you've missed a payment. Then allowed and unpleasant sound would play every single time you get into the car. And ultimately, if you miss and it doesn't say how many payments, but if you miss enough that you'll be locked out of the vehicle, the vehicle will shut itself down and you will not be able to use the car. Well, there's nothing that makes the car more dangerous. So obviously they couldn't get away with that. What do you think? I mean, you got to pay for your car. You do have to pay for your car. And they must be having a lot of problems with people sniffing them. Look, what do I think about this? I think that this feels like Skynet. I think this feels like the world of the terminator. You know, I feel I completely agree. You got to make your car payment, you know? I'm not disputing that.

A few days ago, we were talking on the show about this Canadian research organization that has started to develop a pill that can erase bad memories. So if you had trauma, if you had depression, addictions, it can help to erase those memories. And I can not stop thinking about what memories I would erase. And I go back to the same place, time after time. And I'm just struggling with whether or not I would take the pill for this. And that time is middle school. I just couldn't, I've talked about it before. You and I have talked about it before on the year to get rid of those memories of middle school. And I'm going to use middle school as 6th grade through 9th grade, right? I can remember in the winter getting picked up on the school bus. And I lived out in the country. So no friends, I get on the school bus and walk to the back of the bus and those plastic seats were as cold as could be. And I was heading in to go to school and I'm unprepared because there's chaos at home and because I'm a bad kid. And I know there's going to be a test in that pre algebra or something. And we're riding in and it's freezing gray outside. Going down these country roads. And I remember specifically there was a female bus driver and she always had on this radio station that played either adult songs or songs that were like all these and she had a little radio up there with her. And whatever she wanted to listen to, we had to listen to. So it's gray out. It's cold out. I never had breakfast this morning. And I'm listening to this on the radio. And I ever sent you a good part all alone with just the beat of my heart I am so bummed out. I am absolutely so bummed out because I'm one of those people that needs sunshine. And I'm saying to myself, would I drop the pill to get rid of that whole period in my life? And you know what? Because of what you and I do for a living. I would have to say no. Because looking back on it, it's hysterical. It's so funny that I'm in that situation. And I know what's coming up. And there's nothing I could do about it. Now things worked out okay, right? I didn't find a job where I had to do algebra. So I don't think I would take the pill. I think I'd stay with those miserable memories of that era. I don't, like I said, I think there are things that it would be better if a person could be freed of it. But I don't think that you're every day life experience of cringey, difficult memories like middle school. If you take those away, how are you any different from a parrot or a cat? You learn nothing from your past, right? You just live in this eternal now. Bad experiences or heart experiences, like inspire us to make changes, hopefully. Hopefully. The only thing, yeah, but I hear what you're saying, but the only thing that inspired me was to get the hell out. You know? To leave to get out as soon as I could, which is what I did. What was I really learning from that misery? Well, I was making some mistakes for not having studied harder. But beyond that, you know, it was just my circumstance. Don't we all know people that were miserable in their circumstances and didn't use that to inspire them to get out and that's true. For themselves. That's very true. That's very true. I think if you were someone who survived a horrific plane crash, and that happens, sometimes a plane will go down and one person somehow makes it through. I bet that's a memory you could do without, right? Yeah. Whereas the rooster bangs that you gave yourself for three straight years in high school, girl, you need to learn from that bitter experience so that you never do it again. There are things that you have to keep. Yeah. You send it amazing that I remember that old song. I've never heard that song before. After all these all these years, I can remember that song that cold seat and what was coming my way at school. But look at your look, look at your life now. And maybe. You'd still be sitting on a cold plastic seat, listening to lonely songs. If that had motivated you, right? Yeah, maybe. Maybe. Yeah. Because I didn't want any part of that. You may be right on that. Finish time now for the bob and sherry show business version of small plates, stories that you may have missed, and let's start out talking about a really sweet television show, Ted Lasso. Jason Sudeikis, who was the star, he put the whole thing together. Talks about possible spin offs and so on. If you were hoping that Ted Lasso would last forever, that will not happen. He says, I'm going to get blunt about this. This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell that we were hoping to tell that we all love to tell. It is coming to an end. We don't need anymore. We got it. I kind of admire that. I kind of admire saying an artist saying, we got it done. The story's been told, we're going to move along to something else, just remember it as it is. We're not going to try to make any money off of that. So that's a good show. You can still see it, of course. And I recommend it. This is interesting. And I think this is going to be a big tour. Lionel Richie has just announced he's going to be going on tour this summer with a group that he is always wanted to tour with. And here they are. I get it. Earth wind and fire. No. I forget the name of the guy who was the leader of earth wind and fire. We lost him. But I think that Lionel Richards, thank you. Lionel Richie can step in and join earth wind and fire. I don't know if they're going to play together. I think they should. Couldn't you couldn't you hear Lionel Richie singing this song? With earth wind and fire. Yeah. And I completely get the appeal of that for a musician. To tour with earth wind and fire. Yeah. That's gonna be a great show. And he's, you know, he's still as hot as a firecracker, you know, with the appearances on TV and everything. With American Idol. Our next story in small plates, this is interesting Cameron Diaz is being very honest about supporting Drew Barrymore through her alcohol addition. In the LA times, the other day she was profiled and she said, I knew that if we all stuck with her and gave her the support she needed, she would find her way, and she added, you can't even comprehend how hard it was for her to be a child, and then she shot out the other end with the ability to save herself. And you know, she is exactly right. I don't know either one of them. But Drew Barrymore had an addiction to alcohol, which he was what, 11 years old, something like that, and then became not only a child star, but then started progressing with

"Stop. New episodes drop every Friday everywhere you get your podcasts. Leave us a talk back. Talk back with the free bobbing cherry app. This happened in a court in Spain. It was a divorce hearing. The couple had been married for 25 years, a couple of daughters, and the woman Ivana had stayed home and taking care of the family and working from the home as a homemaker for that entire time. And so when they got divorced, there was a real issue with finances, he had like his work pension and all of that and she didn't have anything and he didn't want her to have anything. So the Spanish court said, um, let's take a look at what the value of 25 years of unpaid housework might be. And we're not going to be crazy. We're going to offer minimum wage for that 25 years of unpaid housework. And they came up with a number and this man is now required to pay his wife in U.S. dollars. Can I guess. You're going to give us the total that he owes or yearly? What he has to pay. The total. The total? Well, you leaked it out $214,000. $214,200. Plus the plus he has to provide a monthly pension to both she and the two daughters for the rest of their lives. He's ticked about it. I bet he is. The divorce settlement was made public because the judge said, I'm sorry, but you can not say that everything this woman did for 25 years has no value? No, no. I'm surprised that it's not more. I don't know how much money this guy has, but I'm surprised after 25 years, $214,000. Now, it depends on the money. I told you, I told you that they gave her minimum wage for the housework. That's how they came up with that number. It's not enough, is what I'm saying. For that amount of time. I wonder what does it say how much she gets yearly? On the monthly pension. Yeah. No, that number wasn't released, but not only was she completely shut out, completely shut out of 25 years of marriage. She lost everything, including access to health insurance, and the judge said no, not on my watch. This is not going to happen. Super. Interesting. And I do believe it was a female judge, which might be why this was taken a seriously as it was, because women we know that we work all day. And then we come home and we work again all night, and for this woman who worked tirelessly for 25 years to get nothing, yeah, no. Judge Lara Ruiz alaminos. Bang that gavel down and said, you're paying up, sir. It's bob and cherry. Instant access to the podcast podcast and fun size. That's where I'm from. Thank you. Look at this. All right. And so we're really excited and we started just walking around the theme park. And after we were there for them, like, man, this place is kind of dirty. Super dirty there, yeah. And then we were there for even longer. I realized their main employees are teenagers. Yeah. I'm like, well, that makes sense, right? These guys can't keep their rooms clean. Let's put them in charge of an entire theme park. See how that plays out. Not good. It's not good. It's really bad. I'm scared. But I have an idea for 6 flags to fix the problem. I think they should get a king size mattress. And just put it in the middle of the theme park and let all the teenagers just kick the trash under there. You know what I mean? I used to clean my room as a teen and just keep kicking it under. You can't kick no more. Oh boy, so, but it was quite interesting. I noticed when we were there, they have a thing called fast passes now. All the theme parks have them. And if you don't know what a fast pass is, basically, you pay money to get in the theme park, then you pay additional money. And you basically get to cut everybody in line all day long. It's a rich bullies dream come true. Wow. I noticed there was a lot of tension though between the fast passers and the non fast passers. At 6 flags, there was. Yeah. It's like a bit of a Bloods and crypts situation. Yeah, yeah, it was a bit intense. A lot of fights breaking out fanny packs just flying. It's a little bit scary. And it was kind of interesting. The way 6 flags did it is you'd be right about to get on the roller coaster and the fastpass people would come from an opposite direction and just take your seat right in front of you. Yeah. So you just watch and take your seat. And my daughter is like, what are they doing? I'm like, what else, sweetie? They paid money to the right people. Okay. So they're just going to keep doing this all day long, so we're just going to stand here and stare at them and judge them silently in our hearts. Is that what we did all day long? Yeah, we were just we were just having a real good time, judging those people. Yeah, and it was really funny on this one ride, this young girl, every time the fastpass people would come and take our seats, she'd make this announcement. She's like, I do apologize if you're see spend and you will be accommodated on the very next ride. I do apologize. Yeah, just like that. Wow. I was like, listen, 6 flags. Why don't you just hire a professional, right? Pre record a message. So we can save that per girl in those vocal cords 'cause I'm no talent scout, but I'm pretty sure she's going back. You know, with that level of enthusiasm, yeah, and I'd be happy to record that message for 6 flags. I would. I think it goes something like this. Welcome to 6 flags. We're cash is king. We apologize that you can't afford fast passes due to your poor financial life choices. You and your needy family will be accommodated on the very next ride. Have a nice day. If you can afford it. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Just waiting for that call. Yeah, and it's really kind of scary though. You'd be right about to get on a roller coaster and go 200 feet in the air and you look over and you're like, oh great, the teens are running the rides of the roller coaster. They're in charge. I'm like, can we just let the teenagers do what they do best around here? Not clean up. But it's really scary because everyone's like, whoo, rock and roll, hoochie coup. Nobody seemed concerned that our fate rested in the hands of the teens. I'm like, can we get some woke culture up in here? I need somebody to be outraged by this. Yeah. Listen, I know our family can't afford fast passes, but we'll figure out a way to buy an adult pass. Yeah. I don't pass this. When we show up, we get an adult up in here to supervise the situation. Yeah, I just need someone who can sign their name in

"Is a bobcat sleeping on the dog's bed. Oh my goodness. Cuddling on the dog's blanket. The homeowner who walked into her home after a long day at work to find a bobcat on the dog's bed. Said, we think it got in through the doggy door. That's what I was thinking. Yeah. We had one once that was a direct access to outside and I always worried about that. What did the bobcat do? Does the story say? Well, the bobcat was a surprise by the homeowner as the homeowner was by the bobcat, the bobcat managed to escape through the doggy door before Arizona fish and game officers were able to get there. Nobody was hurt. The dog wasn't hurt. The dog is never going to be right. No. Dogs home alone all day with the TV on while mom's at work. Right, right. And then the dog looks up and there's a giant freaking bobcat on its bed and the dog's like, yeah, you can have it. I'll take the couch. Make yourself at home. The dog was cowering, right? I have no idea what kind of dog it was, but the sight of this bobcat on this dog's bed is so fun. I can't wait for you to see it. We're going to post it up on the bob and sherry Facebook. Wouldn't you wouldn't you be tempted with you saw the bobcat lying there just dozing off a little bit looking up at you maybe on the dog's bed wouldn't you be tempted to go over and see if you could be friendly to it and maybe even vetted? Well, the homeowner whipped out her cell phone and I thank her on behalf of all of us for these pictures because you've just never seen a bobcat have him a little nap on a dog bed. Yeah, it would be hard for me as an animal lover. So here's the thing. If you have a pet door, you got to think about that. Because in most places, whether it's a skunk or a possum or the neighbor's cat, an animal will come through your pet door. It's only when you live in Florida where the alligators knock on the door before attacking. In other places, they just go ahead and let themselves in. So that is morons in the news straight ahead.

"Have you seen in the wild? I don't think I've seen any. Now that you mention that. I've seen some cogers, too. I think about 6 or 7 in my life and I'm not seeing a bottle I've called two bobcats in predator calling. That's cool. And I've trapped plenty of my fair share of bobcats, but getting to be in personal with bobcats is that I just don't see them. You see them less than you see mountain lions in they are sneaky. That is so cool, man. I think and also that's one of the few trapping games left where you can cover some of your gas ish. You're never going to be profitable trapping bobcats. No, I mean, my brother and I have a pretty impressive picture of bobcats, but you know, but you look at wear and tear diesel equipment time. Yeah, we might have put a hundred bucks in the bank account, right? With bobcats. Now everything else, and that's where I wanted to get into a little bit is the sad decline of raccoons, right? And the story and the symbiosis relationship of every species that we've talked about so far. But this one, we used to have a lot of fur coats, Hollywood was fur, fur, for oh, you're saying the sad decline of the market of the market. Yeah. I was like, I was like, sir, there is not a decline of raccoons. Well, here's the undo that. Here's the unintended consequence, right? Because there's the only demand is Russia for fur coats, right? And primarily one of the main fur coats is raccoon. There's lots of other ones, but coon is a big for coats. Especially in those colder climates where they want a big fluffy coat. So Koons were 20, 30 bucks a coon. You could almost cover your gas, right? Coons are now three, four bucks a coon. And if you've ever skinned and flushed and stressed a coon, it's not a 5 minute chore. I mean, nutria bam, muskrats, bam, but coons are pain, right? Yeah. But when the market's up to a good clean coons, 40, 45 bucks, and you can maybe do two an hour. I'm slow, I can maybe do two an hour, but you can catch a pile of code. You could get them pretty quick, but flesh of those suckers is. However, by removing

That's the question. I guess because i thought don't they put the balls in colorado in the humidor so the balls aren't frozen cold now. I put the balls in the door. We're going to be really close to the era of the jazz and the Nuggets in the Western Conference and you look, the Lakers were at the top and they'll be there While LeBron is here before you have young superstars with both Utah and Denver, Denver seems to be getting it together. But boy, it's like, you know, Utah is just flying completely under the radar. Here they are in first place in the West. "Were of couple people that I know that said, You know what San Diego State's played his tougher schedule. Utah State. I'm included. Okay, Gran, and that made sense. There's no no question that means But this Utah state team and Europe in elevation and Logan, I'm telling, and Craig Smith is a hell of a coach. This guy He puts out the code is coyotes on the map. All right, South Dakota State North Dakota State. They've been big in the summit for a while, but he puts out the coda on the map consistently there. And I'm telling you, his teams can play ball. That guy is real close to getting a power five job if he wants it, and we saw Stew Morrow stay in Logan for a long time. Why? Because, he said, I love it here. It's a great fan base, and I have a chance to make the tournament every year. And I get kids that come here that are good team ballplayers that stick around and play the four years and I don't have to worry about guys just, you know, playing a year or two and then bailing out on me. So we'll see what happens with Craig Smith. But right now laying four total 1 28 at home you're going to. Ah, you're gonna go on that one again with San Diego State because this is one of those back to backers. It is, but, you know, then you tossed a was, you know to me? I just questioned Utah State and played it really? Anybody in a month or so, And they proved it to me that you know, Obviously they are prime, meaning the team to beat right now in the mountain west, So not gonna play this side. I just I'm not overthink it. I mean, you saw what happened in that game, my very, very low scoring. I'm gonna go right back towards the under here with, you know, short rest of all teams. All right. Toledo and Akron to lead has been playing good, solid ball there, minus four at Akron. We know Akron at home is a different team again without fans in the stands still that home court venue, But that's Toledo team's pretty darn good. They've already won a couple of road games. I don't want to get in the way of the Rockets, but I don't think I wanna late points on the road, either. Akron's been struggling a little bit here in the off back to back really poor performances, losing our eyes. A favorite might be a good rallying point for them, but I'm not gonna get involved can state they had to go tooth and nail to get a road when the other day Not only they get the road when they close strongly and got a cover of the 9.5. I think they want by 11 there at Ohio and Athens. And the Bobcats gonna wait 3.5, and we know they play their best ball there, But I don't know if I want to lay three and I watched them play Northern Illinois and struggle in the second half of that game at home Now, they did have a big home win on their last game by a ton of points. So just boy, I I don't think I'm going to touch this one this game that I think the line is right where it should be a 3.5. Yeah, I could pass for me, Katie. We'll see if Ziggurat ski plays for creating, But this is not the same butler team. Uh, but creating. I don't know if I wanna lay eight at the Hinkel Fieldhouse. Anything on this one? No. Marquette's at ST John's more kept mine is to ST John's. They play their best ball at Carnesecca Arena. They shot it real well the other night and got a double digit win market at times convey good, but they struggle as well. And you know, John's is still there, The big guy, but they don't have a lot of good shooters for words. I may look at the Red Storm here. Yeah, I could see that. That you're certainly right. I mean, they've got a couple of nice ones over the last two games against Georgetown Butler, But two seems about right for me. Katie Southern Division Love five Southern girl, You know, to be a conference love playing those teams. Wofford's a good one. A Tennessee Chattanooga. Chattanooga was getting drilled the other day at home, and they came back from the dead and got a three point when Against Mercer, who's pretty good this year, Wofford laying one. I'm interested just to follow that game. Rhode Island comes off a tough loss in overtime against U Mass. And now they're at home against George Mason. George Mason could be short handed check on that Michigan and Minnesota and this is when I will get involved in. I will tell you right now I'll give this game out. I will be on Minnesota. I like this Michigan team. I like the way they're playing. But Minnesota's a different animal there. They've already B'nai with their They've already throttled Michigan State there. This team. Richard Pitino gets the most of this team. They got a big guy Liam Robin's seven footer and the Markus Carr is the real deal, and he plays real well up there in Minnesota. Right now, Michigan getting a little money. It's up to six from 5.5 and I will be on the Golden Gophers. On Wait, because everyone is just, you know, A lot of people are flooding into the college basketball market right now. They're gonna see you know, Michigan with zero in the loss column. They're gonna see that. You know the last two games. Michigan's been dominant. You wanna take Minnesota and wait? I think you're gonna get a better number tomorrow. It's going up right now to six. There's still there's a couple shots that I really follow the one of them still at 5.5 and minus 04 so paying attention there, But But again, I've watched what I needed to watch so far from Minnesota at home there. I think they wanted I'm telling you right now, Brad, I think they win the game outright. I like it that strong. So when I'm taking six I'm taking six strongly thinking that Minnesota's good enough to win that game on their home court and because they've gotten throttled on the road and can't stop getting throttled on the road. They lost. The Iowa had Iowa the other night. Now they came and closed within 2.5, but they end up losing by 15. They're just not good enough to find a Michigan. Yep. So that's why and again Michigan's playing good, solid ball. But I also watch Michigan struggling a couple games of Chrysler. Ah, little earlier, but they are really hitting their stride right now, and it's good to see because I liked you want, Howard? I like him a lot. Let me see Portland State Montana State. That line is eight. Montana State one by seven on this is one of these back to backers up there in Bozeman or whatever. The Bobcats are the favorite there. Davidson at LaSalle Davidson minus eight. I'm just going through these games on and see Greensboro routed Samford late. They pulled away in that game late. They're playing much better ball there, minus 7.5. I would think Stanford could hang in there. But I'm going to respect the way that actually Greensboro is playing of late. I think they're clicking on all cylinders over the last several games, so I'll stay away from that. One. Stanford that Colorado Colorado minus 7.5. And this the second half of that, Uh, you know, road trip, or Stanford went to Salt Lake City and had a lead. Against Utah of double digits and ended up losing by double digits..

When Critters Bleed ... On Purpose!
"Okay now so why did you get interested in this whole reflex bleeding thing well. I just saw this report by that guy. Sebastian hofer and i called him up and he told me that not too long ago he got a job at an island ecosystem research institute in the and so i was looking into what's around. What kind of animals are just scanning through the literature just to see what of questions could answer any read about. These local snakes called thunder snakes. That sounds very dramatic. Thunder thunder thunder snakes. Really it's just that they come out when it rains a lot. And i remember reading this from nineteen fifty five describing this behavior this auto hemorrhaging behavior in these snakes. And i just thought to myself. That's insane so there weren't any photos or any kind of detailed description. It just said. The snakes bled from their heads when handled so he did what most good scientists would do. I assume he went out on an expedition to fight snakes. Absolutely you know it. He absolutely did. He had a couple of colleagues went out looking under rocks flipped a ton of rocks until they finally found one and the snake made some defensive behaviors kinda rolled into this tight ball and it started defecating. And asking you know emitting this pretty bad smelling liquid and then sebastian applied a little pressure to its nose like just gently pinched. Its nose to see if they could trigger any bleeding from handling all right. Now you set me this video. And i'm watching a. It's like a little nose pinch. Maybe you know you pinch at like good. And but then boom the snakes is fill up with blood like immediately there are just too big drops of blood where the is used to be and then suddenly the is kind of clear up and then a drop of blood comes out of its mouth yes. Sebastian told me it was wild. Just because i've never seen anything like that. And just the fact of how quickly that i or the is fully flood with blood and then the blood exudes from the mouth and then the ice fully clear up again in just a couple of seconds. I was stunned. I was like this is mad. I mean that is pretty dramatic and you said other critters. Do this to right right some other snakes. You know the one that's been studied. The most is the horned lizard. That's a lizard that lives in the us in the southern us and what it does is pretty nutso. It shoots blood out of its is and the blood can fly several feet several feet. Yeah it doesn't happen that often but when it does it's so dramatic that it really gets people's attention. Indigenous people have known about these lizards for a long time. European scientists wrote about them centuries ago and for forty years. These lizards have been studied by wage. Sherbrooke director emeritus of the southwestern research station of the american museum of natural history in arizona and he told me at the beginning. He was just wondering if this is supposed to be a defensive response. Why would blood be a turnoff. For what is after all a bloodthirsty predator. Good question when you try to say well. Maybe a predator wouldn't like it depends on is going to eat these things you know. That doesn't make sense so That's that's where i started. So he began watching the lizards in doing experiments. And what he found that. The horned lizard wouldn't always squirt blood from its eyes when threatened by an animal. And what i found was with roadrunners with grasshopper mice with Leopard lizards with rattlesnakes with other snakes. They never squirt blood. They don't do it then so when do they do it. Do they squirt blood. He told me it's when the lizard is about to be eaten by something like a coyote. Or a bob cat and the reason is the blood has a distasteful quality to mammalian predators and it has to be. It has to arrive in the mouth. Okay so these lizards are not really trying to like hit. A predator from several feet away by sending streams of blood. Flying out of there is apparently not disappointing. It's more like a coyotes mouth clamps down on the lizard the lizard squirts out foul tasting blood. Way told me that when he goes out and handles horned lizards only a couple times. Out of one hundred. Will it actually squirt blood from its. Is you know he said. Humans aren't typical predator. So he thinks lizard is just kind of confused. It doesn't really know what to do and he told me he's actually tasted the blood no for a long time. I thought it basically tastes like my blood. I wish i was surprised that this took a turn to a scientist tasting blood. But i'm not look. This is science magazine science. So then you know after a while. Though he started thinking actually there is this kind of you know aftertaste. Kind of acid aftertaste that lasted for maybe twenty minutes. Or so he said it was really minor. But if he squirts the blood into the mouth of a coyote or a bobcat they have a really strong reaction disgusting immediately. They begin to celebrate quite a bit. They shake their head to all kinds of things like that to to they. They have different taste. Buds than i do okay. Okay so all of this kind of suggests that for these horned lizards. This is really a strategic specific defense that it's not just a random stress response. I mean you could imagine that if an animal gets like it's blood pressure goes up lead might just shoot out of a leaky capillary. Somehow i guess but this seems to be pretty specific defense move aimed at particular predators right and like i mentioned before. The horned lizards auto hemorrhage has more studied than any other creatures. Okay salikh what beyond reptiles you said. Some insects do this to ladybugs. Yeah actually quite a lot of insects do this. And if you're poking at a lady bug and some liquid comes out it might just seem to you like it was urine or feces or something you know in ladybugs it comes out of the legs underneath so it's hard to see where it's coming out. It's yellow you know so unless you know what it is. You'd have no reason to think. This thing is just bled on me. You know spontaneously was happened. And now i'm looking back and i'm like oh that was blood cool so i talked to michael nop. He studies ladybugs at the czech university of life sciences and he told me that reflex bleeding is a highly effective way for ladybugs to deter predators because their blood is full of substances that smell and probably taste awful two birds or small mammals and he told me that actually if a lady but gets attacked by ants the coagulating blood can act like a kind of glue that glues aunts mouth parts together during the attack. I mean that's pretty amazing now. But here's the thing. I don't understand about this doesn't a lady bug need. It's blood i mean like it seems like critters would be at a disadvantage of some sort if they went around anytime they got threatened. So like how much blood are we talking about. So for ladybugs. He told me it can be a lot like up to fifteen or twenty percent of all. Its blood wild. Why i mean for you that would be like if you lost a liter of blood like a couple pint blood so it is significant. And that's why he's been looking into the consequences of this. I mean you know he said bleeding could save a lady life but there are also some costs and we re better searching for physiological costs in our research he just published one set of experiments he and his colleagues forced young lady bugs to reflex bleed repeatedly like every day and then they studied them and what they saw is that the bugs immune system seemed a little weekend but the number of eggs they produced was the same their reproductive success was almost unaffected. You know maybe just some slight delays in the age at first reproduction but nothing major. So what i'm taking from this. Is that these insects kind of know what they're doing like evolutionary speaking. I mean do they filter the blood in any way to try to preserve the good stuff and week only just like the nasty compounds in it. His is actually looked at this and he told me that the blood that spontaneously comes out of ladybugs is exactly the same as the blood inside. And when i asked him you know exactly like what is going on. You're like is there an opening in the leg. He said no. Like somehow the insect is able to kind of injure itself to somehow create an opening in its skin or cuticle. But it's not like all the mechanical details of reflects bleeding have been well studied. It's still pretty obscure all right now. Well thank you for this mini tour of the world of auto hemorrhage
