"Remember met fans this used to be a theme. I was at the year 2000 subway series. Yet Bobby Valentine wearing a mustache. Yeah, Derek G to leading the Yankees, even though I hate Derek G to hating them then. And we beat you for one in the subway series, the only game I went to was in the cheap seats, right field, chase stadium, right opposite Jamaica salvage owned by Carmen agnello, the Sonny law of John Gotti senior biggest chop shop in the east coast. And we lost that game. But we won that World Series. That's when I was like totally into it. I was on the 7th chain going to Shay, which on the Ford train, naturally when they had Yankee games at the stadium with the mets in the World Series and talking trash to met fans now. I wouldn't even bother. I wouldn't even bother. And this used to be the team shown for the match back then. Yeah, we let the dogs out. Only dog got which considering today is the death of moose in prospect park who had been killed by a homeless guy still on the lamb. He had stood his ground to defend the woman who had raised them as a puppy the Irish shedded Ann park slope Jessica. And the big headline was that the police closed the case into the prospect park dog killer. They closed it down nobody cares. So we began on patrols at at a, my wife, my oldest son, Antony. We were walking around at 1220. And just about a half mile away, south in the park. An Asian guy was getting beaten up. With baseball bats. Within an inch of his life. She's crime everywhere in this city. And yet, even when the city was worse, in the 70s and the 80s and early 90s, I would constantly constantly be focused. On baseball, constantly

"Number one. Number one is 18. So you were really excited on Saturday for 18 baseball games. Mother nature intervened, but we ended up getting 18 on Sunday. Sundays are always fun because of Sunday baseball. Everything starts before 7. So all of these games are going on practically, simultaneously, more so than any other day of the week. So we had 18 baseball games last night. They all started basically by 4 p.m. or earlier Eastern Time. That was the most games to be played on a single day in baseball since September 30th of 2015, which also add 18. And if you think of September, that's a lot of rain outs, push to the end of the year, all that kind of stuff, which I think might have happened with some of Saturday and Friday's game. Yeah. If not for the fact that we're playing a kind of condensed schedule this year, making up for that first week that was lost, but it was so much fun. I mean, at one point, I want to stay around three or 4 o'clock. I was just staring at my screen saying, oh my gosh, they're so much baseball going on right now. So I hope for you sitting at home, you got to enjoy that, watching all of those games and I know I did. Yeah, I have never been disclosed with my iPad as I am now. I mean, I have found that the MLB dot com website and the ability to see all the games is in absolutely amazing thing. You clearly are not telling the truth and you said when I looked at my screen, I know you. You have multiple screens. I mean, how many 18 games? How many are playing concurrently and how many screens? What's the maximum number of screens langs has to watch games? Well, for a day like that, there's the screen, there's the TV. There's the iPad. There's the phone coming into hope. And then I have my personal computer and my work computer. So there's a lot here. You're got 7 games going on. So remember that the greatest, the greatest final day of any regular season, of course, is the Red Sox and the rays and speed perfume. And all the other games going on. Bobby Valentine was working with us at that time. And I can just imagine this sort of scene playing out yesterday for people like you and me. He got onto one of those chairs inside the green room and we have obviously at ESPN, you have all the TVs. He gets on one of those chairs and it's not a stable chair. It's one that can spin. He just starts spinning himself around because he can't keep up with all the excitement at all the action that's going on. That was so good. That was our special that day was. And yeah, and it's kind of like a weird bummer to that. You'd think with all The Rain outs raved away as you've had, we'd have 18 more games today. I think the schedule today only has like 11 games. It's a little bit of a bummer, but there are games that start as early as noon and go, of course, late. Sarah, thanks very much, buddy. Really good to see you again. Thanks so much for having me. So much fun. Bleacher tweets all right, everyone. It's a bleacher tweets for a Monday. And we've got a couple of questions here from listeners, but first, I want to ask Carl ravage a couple things because I.

"Some twenty years ago. Three hundred forty four firefighters at passed away and were killed and over seventy law enforcement officials were killed not only from the nypd but the p ems worker. You name it. I mean it's just a horrific time in our country. We all know that here. We are twenty years later and my personal connection to the north tower is significant. We were in Cantor fitzgerald offices on the hundred and first floor Howard let nick and cantor fitzgerald hosted us at no cost to our foundation. Got our fledgling foundation off the ground because of all of that support and that day lost my great friend. Timmy o'brien who was my first board member of my foundation and over. I don't know one hundred fifty to two hundred other friends and supporters of our foundation. Because we like. I said we were on the first floor in that plane. Went in right below that floor and anybody above that had no chance of survival and i think about the images that day i think about all the things that have happened over the last twenty years in how our world changed how we changed and how it impacted so many people's lives from the people that died that day to the people who are continuing to die today because of the cancers that were suffered from from that attack and the aftermath of that to all of our goldstar families to our wounded warriors to everybody in between And it really is a sobering fact. When you think about it and i i will never forget. I know my kids will never forget I'm glad to report that. Most of the kids. That i know that lost their dad that day are doing really well doing really well and they are very aware of. What's going on you know when they were younger. Maybe it's the ages six seven eight nine. They didn't understand or comprehend but now they're bombarded with images and videos and everything else and even doing documentaries on their own and writing books about their experience. And i think that says a way for us to remember their their lost loved ones and i'll never forget coming back to new york about three days later. 'cause i was stuck in edinburgh monday night game and i went down to the site and i was with outback steakhouse and we were serving food to the men that were on those piles that were looking for any survivors. And i remember the gasps. I remember they're crying. I remember the smell. I remembered this. Just the absolute devastation nets. Sixteen acre area down there and it wasn't just the first two buildings that collapsed. I mean people tend to forget that one two three four five six seven world trade center buildings were either collapsing that day or had to be demolished because they were so significantly damaged because of the towers collapsed initially all had to be rebuilt and we have a constant reminder when we walk out of our building. We'll look to the right now. We say we see the freedom tower tower that speaks to the inspiration of what this country's all about so. I wear the shirt proudly today. I'll always wear the shirt proudly. And i know that the f. d. n. y. Lost so many members that. I think it's the right thing for us to do. And if you wanna call it and talk about it we can of course We could talk about the great football game last night. We talk about the to bed. Baseball teams that we have now here locally getting ready to play a very significant weekend series that means more to us sports fans than just the games themselves of course and that's the really the reason why i'm going to tune in the mets. Of course i've been talking about how i don't believe that they've got any shot regardless of what the standings say in mathematically whatever it they don't have any shot to me it's about the honoring of the heroes and what sports played at that time and i mean some of my most vivid memories of sports come from post nine. Eleven september mets yankees jets giants. I remember what the patriots joe andruzzi coming out with the flag. I mean it's just vivid memories and to get back to Everything that we loved it was gonna take a long time but sports were there four us and i i mean the organizations were just fantastic. They did everything right at that. Time to support the city to support of the first responders. Bobby valentine joe torry on and on i mean they did apps body vassal. Jim boscell herm edwards. Herm edwards is one of the sea. I remember from the football i. Of course there's a fan. But i was covering football at the time and in football because the stadiums hold seventy five eighty thousand people and you saw it again last night right before the sort of game you know the the the memory of nine eleven and the national anthem and everything else and i like last night. I was thinking and you know twenty years ago. These sports brought us all back together. Like me became one us a nation and my what the hell is happening to us over the last twenty years. I don't wanna get political just a mad at so many other things that have gone on around all of this but i just what the hell is happened to us i. I felt like last night at least during the national anthem. I felt like there was a closeness again. Yeah i really did. And i and i really. I long for the days where we weren't at each other's throats for whatever. The reason may be a common enemy at that point. And it wasn't oss and now we are. We are fighting with one another as basically amazing to me. Yeah i mean and you know the the mantra has been and always should be to never forget and the event and the lives that were lost. Were never gonna forget but we have forgotten. I think collectively maybe not mean you. Maybe not are listening base but there have been a lot of people in this country that have forgotten about who we were right after those attacks which was a unified front as a nation. And i mean that was the only good thing to have come out of that. Was that where there was. Y- you dropped all beliefs and we were on the same. We're all we were. Yeah we were on the same team. We were americans. there was no at each other's throats. I'm not saying that you know. All disagreements or bad disagreements but it's gone to the point now where we are so far away and we're so contentious and you don't want another big thing to happen for us to be able to get back on. no. I think we're contentious because we do have a faction on each side. That is extreme in those extreme points of view are pushing You know most of us who are reasonable and practical. An independent thinkers Can make a decision about a certain thing and see it as a practical reason why to do something. As opposed to a political reason as to why do something and and a photo op and picture you know is just is just so demeaning and so disheartening and just so infuriating as opposed to the real stuff that's going on and it's just because it's all because of politics so i i don't know i don't know what to tell you other than i did last night. I i kind of felt a little bit of that. Come together moment especially through sports. You not everybody's sports in the world. But i do know that back then if it weren't for the sports at least for those of us who are sports fans. I don't necessarily know that we could have gotten back. And i from the world series with the yankees in diamond bounce to the monday night. Football games that i was doing to see how fans are reacting at every monday. Night game in. How proudly.

No i'm gonna come back and i'm going to have the worst possible it it i. It almost looks like the groucho marx. Glasses and mustache combine checks skis. Sports fans shared that like like like evil. Cogan just like. Oh the handlebar thing. That's coming down to the side or maybe just like a goatee on lake. If you're going to do it yeah go all out all. That's funny yeah. And i just i just love this concept that the manager was just so confident that this that this inspector clue so level costume was going to work like the like the finger point of the empire. "It's insane we get we will or we lose like yo like honestly yankee fans are so god damn spoiled and this usually pisses me off. But we're does event inoue's lose at this point but like we're still gonna finish ninety wins this year and like using season in twenty five years and the last one we had. It was like two games and like so. It's like yeah. We could be better. But like i don't know i don't know if it's boone's fold at this point with the all the analytics. He's made some very questionable decision. So the lesson we what we feel like three or four wild pitches lose the game. Like that's not boone's fold but that's a loss you take him out after the third wild pitch like. Hey maybe this guy doesn't have it but you're also professional pitcher. You always got to this point. It's been they've been so inconsistent. Underperforming i'm a proponent of not always scapegoating the manager but i think the yankees are of shakeup they really are and it starts with cashman. And if you get rid of catherine you gotta get rid of boone. 'cause cashman brought him in bringing theo epstein right. Thanks for everything you've done. Yeah nausea gan. Please give me one season of ozzy because he gained in new york. When he's looking. Bobby valentine god no fuck back. I the first thing he says. It's become after becoming the red sox managers derek jeter's overrated and it's like how we came back into the dugout that one time when a fake moustache inject the two funniest things that's ever happened in baseball. Game is that and manny ramirez. Cutting off the cutoff man tiring play. This is the first time he's ever made a diving. Catch gimme that real quick. Speed this off this question. Here from george sutcliffe good question best performance in a tarantino film. His choice is samuel jackson in orlando. That's that's a hot take for a lot of people and as great as crystal waltzes. And as good as leo is i think. Samuel jackson may be the best performance in that movie. I output behind them anytime. He was on screen still. He's great in that so many good performances in that movie trying to think back to like all the good performances. You really can't nail down one in that movie. "It's me asking the questions. Not you volunteering. Any sort of animus. They weren't going to be any harder on me than i was going to be myself. I certainly wanted to live up to the the money. I was getting so that wasn't of the problem up. Some of it was probably self-induced by me. I'd have to really go back and look at all the situations but again it's just one of those things where it's trial and error. It takes a little something to learn new york the new york media. I can handle it pretty well. When i got one to two years with the max i started to figure it out Make sure you give them time regardless of what they're going to say. I learned that in my mind it was in regardless of what they say. You're gonna be a lot harder on you yourself than they will be. And i learned that probably after my second year 'cause i spent four years there believe before i was traded and then i went through obviously to strike here ninety four. That was another interesting thing. with the media but i learned to handle and helped me with the marlins and i always gave them time. Bobby i didn't understand though. I didn't understand the you had this reputation that you came to the marlins with and i never saw that person. Yeah i don't that ness why mentioned i don't believe that one person in the media in new york and say that. I didn't give him time. I started by saying that's the one thing they can't say. Oh well bobby less after this. So bobby left after that. He didn't give us. You know a half an hour so that we know what happened that particular situation. I waited by my locker. You know because sometimes. I was asked questions even when i wasn't particularly maybe the star of that game but i knew if i left it can cause problems and that's just comes with experience and then once everybody the bdo started filtering out. Then i can shower leave and do everything. What do you regard as your single happiest year in professional baseball where you the things came together. The friendships everything. I know it's hard to pick but you you just have to pick one. Oh no it wasn't haga pick. I say out of the seventeen years that i play. They will all wonderful except for one year with the new york. Mets and it was the bobby valentine ears for myself. I for some wings. And we just didn't see i in a lot of things. I don't know why to be quite honest with you but the sixteen other were phenomenal. And i got another kick out of to meet clinton in the white house that was another. I couldn't believe. I was handed him a jersey. So that was that if anything that stands out with me. That would be the one thing that i met president. Clinton as a champion as a champion. Yeah that blew me away. I'm like keep kidding. I'm from the south bronx. And you know i'm here. Hand in is Two-term president a jersey. I didn't like right next to him. Though i told him that. The ritual act acting that he implemented that one any fun but other than that going to the white house. And what's so funny..

"I dislike scapegoating. The astros is the entire culprit behind it. And i don't have time for me. it's i mean it's a friendly common enemy. Everyone can agree are cheaters. they're lowlifes they should have championships band banners. Taken down boever on that because it's rodman fraud as a joke. Yes he doesn't uphold the integrity of the game. It's a shame everybody's cheating baseball just like you find one team. It means that they're all doing it. And all this stuff that's come out you know. None of it's been as much as smoking. Gun as the astros where they had a cameron centerfield banging on the trash cans like just having the videos them clearly sitting on a breaking ball and hearing the trash cans bang like. That's just so much. More damning than ryan speeder sankey heard from multiple players that this team has cameras. Or whatever. Sure maybe it's as biased as the. Let's just keep vilifying the astros and move on from the situation actually liked on pmt. Bobby valentine sake that he thinks that it wasn't even necessarily like the bank of the trash cans and that it was much deeper than that like he more looked at as like the one game went. Algebra hit the walk off and he was looked at. He was protecting like the wires right. I think he was with bobby johnson and made a lot of sense. I think it's something more like much deeper in like a higher level of technology just like bang trash. It's i think it was much more intricate than that. Yeah talk which makes it more damning. Probably some plausible deniability with these other teams. That they just have the cameras because they could use it for film. Study like yeah. They may be signs but they might not be like messaging the hitter.

"Assortment. Okay let's do some segments by the way Breaking moves it. Didn't it did means that we need to say something for our friends in rondo. Colorado rod does what the cool people say I didn't put this together but someone just mentioned this to me. Colorado just did the unimaginable. They just lost each straight playoff games. In the course of two weeks and the fight the and the fight the avalanche were up to nothing and then they lost four straight and in the midst of those four straight losses. The nuggets got swept thought. That's actually yikes. That's the rodney curse to not have a win tab. Two teams deep in the playoffs and not have a fucking win in two weeks notices. Because it's the bargain with the devil that you have to make in order to get aaron rodgers traded to your city. Yes good point really good point. I'm going to match up these schedules. Real quick let's see when when they exactly happen because that is man we i love. I love men. ver- yeah. I love mammoth fort collins guy. I like that guy that goes on the detective shows and talks about how he caught people forty years ago. Now i love men ver. I think it's a great city of had some fun times. I went to a rockies. Game unbelievable stadium unbelievable jay. Can you find for me while i do this. Tell me exactly when the avalanche started their four losses and when the the nuggets started therefore losses. I also think it's a curse on on the nuggets for wearing shitty uniforms yet. Tonight's the night they war against the blazers that uniform. And if you're the nuggets you have so many like cool like imagery in in colors that you can use and you go with that gun powder rate. I think is what is called. They had a sunset on their jerseys while they were playing against the sunset. They did the same thing where they were. Basically the trailblazers colors against trail blazers suns were seventh ninth eleventh and today avalanche four. Six eight ten all on the fourth on all the from the fourth till today They lost eight straight playoff games ten tennis. Yeah that's really really tough okay. So that poor one for our friends in rondo. We appreciate you. As awol's we are going to celebrate. When aaron rodgers goes to the broncos mountains or blue we will celebrate for days when we will call it rata week when aaron rodgers gets traded to the broncos all right couple segments. Let's do some talking soccer. So the euro started one of the craziest scariest stories on saturday when Let me get the facts correct. What is his full name. Christian christian erickson right playing for denmark. Denmark against finland collapsed. He actually like went into cardiac arrest they were able to. I think the. I think a finnish player. The story goes started. Cpr so would i heard was he. He was struggling to run at the of steps and then they're throwing the ball in he collapses into the ball goes face down. They immediately call over the medics. I don't know if he started giving him cpr but they got the medics out there. Like real quick the trainers were there in a matter of five seconds. The medics were not long after that he was dead. It was feel he was dead. His heart stop nikki. Six yes and they. They put the defibrillator on and shocked them and then gave him cpr to keep his heart going so yeah they brought him back from the dead. It was it was a brutal scene crazy the the danish players yes danish. Yes surrounded him in order so that people can take take pictures or film him on the ground in case he was dead and so They were like trying to protect them and their way that they could do in that they take him to the hospital. They call the game off which was probably the right thing to do. And then football football guy christian erickson gets on zoom call with them. Search jacking up. No he tells them. I want you guys to play the game. Yeah then they went out there and played unfortunately they lost but it was one of those things where you were watching the game and you could tell that nobody on the fueled like was thinking about the game whatsoever. They basically just watched their captain die in front of them crazy. It was insane so thankfully he's ok but it did bring out. We talked about this a little bit before we started taping. It brought out some of our favorite people on twitter. Who were everyone was mad. Everyone was was upset watching the game because they just saw somebody maybe die right and they chose to take that anger out on the broadcast of the game because the broadcast was coming in from uefa and uefa cameraman like dude. Just be a normal camera guy and find a hot chick in the stands like every other horny camera world are actually the appropriate thing would be just like cut to the blimp feed right or whatever that is but they were showing the players there were zooming in on christian eriksson's wife in the stands up who just thought. She saw her husband die and it was brutal. It was immediately admittedly brutal to watch but everyone was like mad at espn for making them. Watch this and it's like you. I get that you're mad and i get that like you're upset about what you're watching right now. We do have like there's a button in your hand on your remote right. That actually controls your own television that you can turn on and what it comes down to. His people are on social media to get re tweets and likes and of course. We're i mean always always sitting in this room are guilty of this. The put put in a situation like this. They just tweeting. I hope this guy is okay. Won't get you the most retreats. So what does having an adjacent conversation to it where you're just mad at you know like you're mad at someone who didn't have anything to do with espn. But you're just yelling about you. Know how they did this wrong when everything happens really fast. It's fucking crazy. It was a scary situation. I wasn't watching the game. I saw that he was. You know a week on a stretcher going off and and i've said this before the read the room people are the worst people in the world. Because i still can't for the life of me understand how Being affected by something and then spending that time immediately after replying to other people to read the room is like you. Showing your Your lack of room reading. You're just you're giving the proper like credence to the moment by just replying to people saying the room. Yeah because you are. You're clearly thinking about christian erickson by by sitting on twitter and replying people read the just maybe a moment of silence for maybe. Just don't tweeting don't you don't you don't have to tweet when you watch a guy die on him again. I wasn't watching. I saw that he was like got caught. Up i saw was scary. I saw he was on a stretcher. Like awake i saw. They said he was okay. I read that one moved on with my day. Because i wasn't watching wasn't gonna jump in and be like. Oh my god just saw this thing. Let me get my take off all right. You don't have to tweet a video and be like block charge. Yeah right eat but thank god. Let me say this..

"And then she spent about a minute and a half talking about how he got jacking off on a skype call at his other job and wasn't welcome back or get fired from that job and it was i. I love seeing somebody. Just get publicly. Shamed for jacking off. Yup with jeffrey toobin. I need like a disclaimer on my screen. At all times when he's presenting any sort of legal advice he should he should wear a scarlet letter. But it's like the eggplant emoji on his chest or at the very least give me like a yellow box. Like they show on a score bug for flags. When jeremy toobin shows up can be yellow box pops up like this guy. Jack saw it should be The jackass warning. This man has been has jacked off in front of a camera warning. This guy your base. Yes yes so. I'm looking forward to seeing more of him on the tv. He's just i if you were him. He's probably what like sixty. What do you think sixty five sixty one years old respect respect. First of all to jeffrey toobin for continuing to have a healthy sex life with his hand when you're sixty one. I've just always assumed that when you hit fifty. You shouldn't jack off anymore like that's become honestly age of gentleman that you can't be jacking off anymore. I wish that he had just 'cause you know the the cnn thing. I watched as well. It was so awkward. And he's like. I hope i can regain your trust and and of course like jerking off front of your colleagues. Whether he says he doesn't know he was on camera. Alpha wait wins wins national masturbation day right after perino day national masturbation seventh base. Just missed it damn it all right so next year may seventh put it on Told those who celebrate my bag. I though so we can get a little bit. Yeah my whose back is. The cubs are back There i know statistics behind the hottest team in baseball and also wrigley is packed and also anthony. Rizzo was under fire on friday. Because he didn't get vaccine vaccinated but then he had like one of those sixteen pitch at bats where he hit a home run. Which is the coolest thing you can do in a baseball game. So pretty much all's forgiven and nobody's going to bring up the vaccination stuff after an event like that know exactly like he was i wa- watching live. It was what it is one of the coolest things to do when you're watching a baseball game and a guy keeps falling off every single pitch and you get to like twelve. Thirteen fourteen pitches. And you just know like he's gonna do some sweet because he just you can just feel it. In the in the crowd rises in everyone gets into it and then boom homerun so yeah everything else. He said earlier that day. Who cares I got offered a trade in my fantasy. Baseball league cement express anti row was on. I declined it vaccine. I don't want him in eighty five percent threshold. I don't want to have him getting my other players sick. Yeah eighty five percents rush. Yup i want to keep it like that. So you guys can enjoy life. Stay loose a little bit sick homerun. Though it was it was very very sick. Run Nothing better than like any at bat. That goes above ten pitches that ends in a hit you forget about homerun that ends in a hit. It feels like you've you've just watched the greatest movie of all time and you can also say you sound like you're a true baseball analyst. That was a professional pat. Yeah that was a professional at that all the kids at home. It's just great seeing the crowds back. Like we've done this before the fans i would we say By thanksgiving you have to stop saying have fans back. Yeah you gotta have at least one home game in every major sport at all the iconic destiny. Okay yeah so that was this weekend. Who was cubs cardinals. It was beautiful friday afternoon game like beautiful weather and everyone's having a great time in the bleachers. The best oh it just occurred to me with the sons guy. They were talking about earlier. Yeah do you think that the sons are team destiny. We talked about the gorilla. I think so for harambee. Yeah i think so. Until chris paul gets hurt because that's to happen through Bower sunspot cast seriously. Just another pat on the back for us to go for to switch from a regular season nuggets. She's doing the byles he actually doing. The was a minister. She does put me in super slow mo like five. Just i be done. There's like five different moves that she does in the air. I would forget what i was doing next. I would just like to flips a twist another flip and other twists. I break every single ball. You know what i would do. I went on one of those fucking bouncy. Matt's the minute. I tried to lift off my ankles. Were just shatter your body with your soul. Reject would i also do. Is that unlike this and one point for that. That's true if you do this you get sick. At's right well. Yeah you know what your name down and get your points if you like this. It's not just that you have to salute the judges. The judges back. You have to look at the judges present yourself to them. Yes yeah. If you've got like compound fracture in both legs. You're looking like lieutenant. Dan won't be hard. You hit the floor in you. Just like look at them and go like that. "Is gonna be on the road trip. And so, Sylvia. I said, Let's get Tommy Lasorda. We get time of the sword on. First of all he gets on, he tells us He's not in Chicago. He was in New York. Starts pimping some suit store he was. I think he was like waiting outside to get in. He starts out of we did. The interview came off the rails so quick, But I mean in, like, five minutes in Sylvia, I look across at each other, like, man. We're dying in here like this is not this isn't going the way I thought it would go. It was gonna go. I used to listen to Tom Young with chatting. I'm thinking. Yeah, man will be like shit. Will have Tommy on is gonna be fantastic. You know? So we know our like boiled boy. I'm grabbing my collar. I'm like, I don't know my say goodbye to him. I don't know what else does the guy and he was away and I don't even I can't remember whatever the honor I was talking about with him, but he that he was rebound to receive, but I didn't meet him like two years. Prior. Yeah, that's proof. The Italian American Sports Hall of Fame dinner. That Wednesday Is Prince Spaghetti Day? Yes, Yeah, that's proved that with the Randazzo family and all the great folks at the telly American Sports Hall of Fame over there on Taylor Street, they had a big black tie event. Every year. They They put their new through. New inductees. Into the halls. Her and we were at the grand Ballroom at Navy Pier and I'm in heaven. I met Michael Rosie. Only that night. Great night I met Remember the great middleweight fighter Carmen Basilio. Carmen Basilio, I think Thought, Jake LaMotta a time or two. If you have not familiar with the movie movie Raging Bull, That's true, and I went up to Carmen Basilio. And I introduced myself and I said Mr Basilio, Carmen de Falco. He grabbed my hand Anyone nice name? That's where to God. And I met Who was Who is the one? You're the Italian fighter that Kill Dooku. Kimmitt remember? Oh, yeah. Mazzini booming. I met boom boom Mancini. He was punches. I'll get out my forever. Hey, Boom, Boom, man. He's punchy. E famously had that moment with timing. The sort of Sylvia me glad you re lifted with us Eyes Classic. Can't be a real good. Wait a minute. With the other one when cap was trying to interview him a couple years later on that gun Comcast Yeah. The best, but I got a kick out of this. This was from Rich Eisen show on the NFL network. He was talking to the great Al Michaels and Al Michaels tells a story. That I think needs to be heard that you will appreciate its vintage Tommy Lasorda when I was announcing the Hawaiian on Islanders in the Pacific Coast League, triple A baseball starting in 1968. I was there three years are big rival. With the Spokane Indians, and they were the Dodger Farm Club and the Triple A farm club. And because of travel, the Indians would come over twice a year, and they spend the entire week there, so I got to know Steve Garvey. Bobby Valentine, Bill Russell, Davey Lopes, Ron say That's the team Bill Buckner. All those guys are playing with the team. And the sword is the manager. And then Tommy loves to tell the story is a little bit embellished, but very close to the truth. He always has contended he discovered me because, after every game and Hawaii he would have to call out Cam Panis and the general manager of the Dodgers and reported on how all of the guys had done. Garvey did this, but they're did this looks to this etcetera, etcetera. So one night, he says. He tells Sampanis. He said, Hey, Allie said, You know, I know you got Vin Scully and then he's great. Everything visit guy over here, the sea young guy doing these games on the radio. This guy is really terrific. Al Michaels is his name. You should keep an eye on him. Campaign. It doesn't say anything at first and then at the end of the conversation, according to Tommy can't Panish is Tommy, this this kid you're talking about this Michaels guy. Do you know it's really good, and Tommy says. I've been thrown out of the last four games about the club has listeningto what happened with your one night he gets thrown out in the third inning of the game. Now in Hawaii's the clubhouse wasn't behind the dugout. You have to walk all that we have to center field, 425 ft. Get serenaded by the fans. And then another 100 ft to a ramshackle clubhouse. You could not sneak back in. Truly you'd have to listen to the radio. So that's the third thing, so I know he's listening to me for seven innings one night the next night. He's so angry, he comes out. He gives the lineup card to the umpires. He gets thrown out with the lineup on irony of ironies. You know the matter of the the the umpire at home plate that night was Bruce framing, who would go on to have the longest umpiring career in major league history. He would go to the major. So this is this is crazy stuff. He gets thrown out again. Now he's listening to me the whole game. The next game, he did less. He lasted the game, and then the following game. You got thrown that in like the sixth or seventh inning. Tommy truly was able to hear me. Do you know probably 20 innings of baseball, And so he always loved to tell that story. Of course. I love the fact that Tommy was such a big apartment. He was It's the wonderful man on so many levels so many it is like the perfect It's the perfect story. And when you hear Michael, First of all, I think of young Al Michaels doing Hawaii Triple a baseball out there. Bruce Framing is managing in the minor leagues. Tommy Lasorda is managing the Triple A team for the Dodgers in the late sixties. That would go on to think about those teams in the seventies. That would consist of your coast favorite player, the Great Bill Buckner. Ron, say Steve Garvey. Davey Lopes. Probably Bill Russell, though he didn't get mentioned. No, he did. I think he did mention Bill Russell. I mean, think about that team. And and it's so hilarious to hear. How the heck do you know he's any good? Because well, because I've been thrown out of the last four games, but the best part is that he got thrown out handing in the line of card that is like so quintessential Tommy Lasorda. It is a hilarious story that the power and influence of all the people like named in that story that we're playing in those games. Is absolutely tremendous, and I thought it was worth playing and worth listening to, and al Michaels tells it is only on Michael's continue, but that is classic. You know what strikes me about That story, too, is now a days. I don't know if you'll ever have Like players like that really assemble on a triple A roster anymore, because they if you're a good hitter or a good pitcher, you maybe get 10 games and Triple a maid maybe a half a season. But you're going up to the majors pretty quickly. You know, if you've proven at double a that you could handle it. You don't get Too long. A trip later, right in 50 years ago. It's true. I mean, you know, I think guys just Everything was at a different pace, right? And so yeah, these teams would probably have these ridiculously stacked triple a teams.

"Lasorda won 1599 career games and was named NL manager of the year twice. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on Shin and Golic Jr. You know what? He was just a he was essentially, you know, the grew a thread to the old to the to the current. Um, you know, and his love for, uh, baseball, the Dodgers and his love for players really, um transcended. Decades, you know, and generations And I think for me the Dodger way and his passion for life and I'll tell you my key was still so sharp to the end, then I mean the stories that he could tell and the things that he could recount and he was as fiery as ever, and unfortunately, a lot of the stuff was in my office that we could kind of Filtering. It was get out. But I'll tell you, man, it was just great. Just talking baseball with him, Of course, the entire baseball social media universe. With an outpouring of support for Tommy Lasorda. Lots of stories going around and a lot of them circle around how Tommy Lasorda was really crucial in changing the culture of baseball and how integral he was in key parts of baseball history. Here's former MLB player and manager Bobby Valentine on Spain and Fitz. I think they should think of him as the guy who Who changed the culture in baseball. He was the guy that the first guy to embrace players with hugs and and know the wise things and the kids things and make it a family of their rather than treating it like it was the military assignment, which it was Treated as before Tommy grope the barrier. He should be the known as the guy who's the Embassador around the world for baseball, You know, he won a world championship or two with the Dodgers. He also wanted Olympic gold medal for the country that he loved so much, and no one else has ever done that, along with You know, Caribbean World Series championships in minor league championships. I mean, the guy. The guy was out to win the guy who's out to develop and he developed winners everywhere he went.
