"Auto the upper hand although that's two months away. Yeah i mean when we get down to that job this absolutely that opportunity that they could potentially do that. Can't imagine the ca- chuck camp. Is that stubborn. Because at the end of the day the sends do have club control. But maybe the ca- chuck's would. Just i mean i wouldn't be surprised to see it. Go right to the deadline. Lots of people were saying throughout the preseason. Now all the tsn guys on the panel. Don't worry don't worry about this. This'll get done before opening night and it may still. You know it's a as this is playing out. It's october twelfth. At least and the sense start the season on thursday night so it could be done by the fourteenth but it's Yeah tick talk. It's a it's a bit of a frustration for sure for fans of this one. Stevie if you are the kansas city chiefs all right and they signed mahoney okay. Mahomes mahomes signed homey. They signed december homey to the five hundred million dollar deal. Steve nori no problem no problem. They signed that deal stevie after the super bowl. Of course that this guy's the franchise guy what are they. What's their record. So far doing three two and three. Oh no ono. That was getting to the game of the night on sunday night. But it was a big old blow basically. The bills just had their way with him. Thirty eight to twenty. And yeah. that's the thing meal. Steve fifty mil. Well those are two things you have to keep in mind when you were signing these massive deals. It's still a team game. And you know one player does not not make. And then when you're you know you're looking at deals like brady could shocks. You also have to be cognizant of that too. Because you know the send signed bobby ryan to this massive long term contract and because of that. By the time it was three years old. It was clear. The bobby rhine wasn't even.

"He was bought out by the sense. Couple of years ago played one year last year with the red wings started at pretty well and then kind of faded. He got another opportunity to return on a professional tryout but they let him go today so that may be the end of the line for bobby ryan who by the way. Here's the silver lining. Jimmy is three more years that he'll be paid by the ottawa. Senators even doesn't lace them up again. How's it going. How's it going to you talk about these big contracts or or guys still still under contract teams. Look at this eventually. Go change something with the with the players union that you keep ended up having to pay guys after they retire. You've got to be something there and the other thing. Steve is the salary cap will just change on it. The league you begin to look at this right and you're going okay. Here's here's another eighteen. Julian dollar deal What what's what's the salary cap. Steve was eighty ninety million. I don't know. I think it's like low eighties. Eighty million something like that. So they're just gonna look up and go. Okay we'll make ninety five mil no more making one hundred mil right so member member. The big you know the big cafa when the salary cap came came out right in every frigging sports show was managing the salaries. Now managing the salaries. You know. you gotta stay above the floor. But but stay below the cop and blah blah blah blah blah. Then they changed its deep. it started. it started at. I think forty mil or something like that. Yeah i remember. Attached to revenues right so as revenues go up in the nhl continues to do well. The players get to share in that by way of the salary cap. Moving up right. So so. That's how it works but the cap exists because the owners while they're all partners. It's a funny thing. They're all partners but at the same time they're competitors and really they needed to be saved from themselves ri- needed to have some tool in place that would keep the ground level as far as the playing field goes because we know the new york rangers and the toronto maple leafs they can afford to spend two hundred fifty million on their payroll and that would drive some teams completely out of business so the cap is actually a good thing. Although with the ottawa senators right now as they try and get brady ca chuck gone. Looks like you'll be the only guy who is in our fa to head into the season and just be still holding out trying to get a deal done even though that thing is happening. The cap is good for the ottawa senators and a team like that. Because i mean they'd get spent i mean they're they try and create their own salary cap anyway so there may be not the best example but it is an brian thing for everybody to stay.

"Show the guy you may have to show. Id as well to some places maybe not but It takes no time at all. I've had i have to show it here all the time in evanston probably like that deal restaurants right where you have to. They've got like a code right at the door. And you turn your camera on your phone and you train it on that code and then takes you to a site. We have to sign up and stuff which i found a bit of a nuisance in hate signing up in those so my brother-in-law actually des- basically he did it. One time then took a screen shot of it. You're supposed to do each time at every restaurant. He took a screen shot of it and so when the waitress came by and saying sat down. And he's we'd show the same screen shot every time saying yep i filled it all at. It's all good. She malka that. So i just always talk. That's how i do screaming not supposed to do that with restaurants. You're supposed to do at fresh each time. So people can track where you've been. They have outbreak at that restaurant. They want to know which people have been at each restaurant each time. But if you're vaccinated what's the difference it may not be. You can't carry it. I guess. I'd yeah they just want to know because and they wouldn't know if you take a screen grab show at every single restaurant you go to right because you won't have registered in that restaurant that day. Hopefully there's a bit of an honor system steve that no one's going i. I know how. I can scan my way through this things and although i'm not vaccinated this yeah no doses. Now we're dead in the water. We relying on her. Steve stevie yeah. Remember all the talk about. You're saying i don't like it that the nhl is gonna already started. You know what sponsors on jerseys i don't i don't like it i like. I don't care. And then i read this. I read this morning. Why wonder we were talking about what. What could it be worth. How much money you know. Go ahead steve. I said look at the headline as you so it is the nba were talking about and it is a one hundred million dollar deal that the la lakers landed a jersey sponsor. And you're thinking to yourself. What's it gonna be is going to be some of the standards coca cola. Mcdonald's nike no. It's a korean food company. Right it's a korean. Food company called an. I'm probably butchering the pronunciation. Be go and they will basically take over for the e. commerce platform wish as the lakers new sponsor. And that's a good sized logo right above lakers across lebron's chest right Bb go every team. Wake is waking up. This morning. Steve going now. There's a beautiful little template they've set for us. "Just you know what just Basically yes or no right just having a they're taken out of everybody's hands. It shouldn't take as long as it didn't part of the reason it takes as long as it does. Is that the you know. We have to watch the officials on the field. Wander off somewhere and examined something. Take it out of their hands. Just have somebody else. Who's got it up in the press box and and they could just make the announcement. That's a good goal or whatever. The do like tennis right tennis where they got the. It's called the hawkeye. Now right exactly and it takes time. It takes time. I challenge you. Go no problem. They put it up on the screen zone in no you you lose your challenge or whatever it's interest out you are. I stevie could be the person handling that challenge. You don't need an expert. You can be sitting there with the ipad or watch it on tv like all of us do and the umpire. Someone was challenging. That no problem. Turn the ipad around there it is. It was a ball okay. Bang done now. Exactly a high degree of training is really have vision. You can probably work this thing out so yep interesting stuff for sure. I wanna take time out of the program. Get some hockey. Talk on the way bobby ryan is back and The blue jackets remember about a week ago. "Think he got some flack from time to time from people who are saying. Oh he's such a homer he's so pro-lifer something but the the bottom line is when you're on a national broadcast and you're watching that national broadcast as if you're were and you're pulling really hard for one team you're gonna notice these little moments. Hey whether talking against my team high dare you so i. I don't think that anybody you know is chris. Cuthbert probably gord miller pretty good in that regard literal. I would say for the most part. It's almost impossible to please. everybody When you are clearly a fan of one team over the other you're obviously at some point while you're being objective going to say things on behalf of the other side that's gonna make you seem like You're anti that team. Well the that is you'll hear from time to time. I think of of a gordon wilson and dino. You know when you listen to that broadcast there the home you know. They're the senators broadcaster. Gordon would just about jump out of his socks. You went to sends do some but i love. I love it. The irony of people saying a guy should be neutral. Okay on a national broadcast is the person who's complaining because you know it's like there we all. There's a goal by the right winger for chicago. They're up to one as opposed to yes. Toronto boot ties it upright and then people freak out freak out saying you know that's not very good you know he should be a little more impartial and stuff like that. Obviously the only people complaining about that. Steve are are fans of the other team. Of course okay. So think about that for a second folks so what you're saying he's not allowed to cheer okay for his team but if he did it the other way you'd be fine with it you know what i mean people neutrals. They don't want neutral. What they want is for the national broadcaster. We all agree. The national broadcaster should be objective. But the viewer doesn't really they. They think they want that. What they really want is for the national broadcaster who supposed to be objective. They want them to be on the side of the viewer right. Yes wherever the viewers cheering for unless the national broadcasters cheering along with. They're not going to be happy as my right you know. Further that story steve. I was reading something quickly. Am jays are right in it now okay. They're right in it. They're in a game last night. Tight game they end up losing but apparently the the umpires miss to really bad calls at pinnacle times. Okay miss really bad calls and so we're talking in strikes yeah balls and strikes and they show the chart. I showed the little graphic right where you can see where the balls and strikes are and so the fans are freaking out right. Because they're in the hunt here. Aren't they want they've you know they've won. Eighteen of our last twenty three or something like that..

The Lions have won four NFL titles. Believe it or not. 35 52 53 in 1957 and The Pistons, of course, won three NBA titles 89, 90 and 04. So that's 11 total the same number of cups that the Red Wings of one They are the greatest success story in Detroit Sports. You know, you know what an absolutely and, um you know, I think people fans have come, you know, to expect them to be in the playoffs. And so when they finally missed for the first time in 26 seasons, it was like what's going on, but it's like I mean, you know that they were so fortunate. They would have had a downswing earlier. You just can never tell in sports. People build teams their own way. Sometimes it takes longer. Sometimes they're not successful, but they're going to give it a shot and You know the great thing When you've got an organization like this and the names that we mentioned in the past, Lindsay able, how, For instance, on do you mentioned 11 Stanley Cups. It also sets an expectation for success within the organization itself, and it should service and self motivator shouldn't Agree, 100%. I mean, I know that you know, guys in the locker room now, uh, you know when, when, Like. There are pictures of the all time great above each player's locker room. So you look up. You see the Gordy's the Steves that you know Ted Lindsay's stables and, you know, I think there's a great deal of pride in wearing the jersey and it was very interesting to me when Steve sign Bobby Ryan, Uh, this is October, which feels like 100 years ago, right? It usually comes back to the best combat story, which is weird because on everybody for having a comeback storing on some level, you got a Steven Johnson Dallas Austin mom in Philly and in Ottawa Bobby Ryan. So all I mean everyone's stories, I'm sure Berry worthy of being finalised. So shout out to everybody was nominated by their respective. "Seven hundred ninety street. So thank you get to eight hundred. Well See I. I'm definitely getting eight hundred. I just I. I'm very disappointed. That a Havemann at all able to close the gap. There's not even a little bit like I didn't even get inside. I think you were leading by twenty five points after the first week and I've never ever closed the gap your Right now you are the Coyote Landon doing. Have you checked have not checked lately? scored the other date. So I'm yes all that. So they've They've clinched fourth and they're in the D. L. And so they get a bye in the first round they were pretty cool playoff system in the in the D. L. so they have sixteen teams can make the playoffs teams. Seven eight nine and ten play too. What a three seven plays ten eight plays nine. Two out of three play in series and that moves them into the quarter-finals and so one plays the lowest seed of the play in series two plays the second lowest seed and three and four play. And it's I think it's a it's a pretty cool system. I believe and Bettmann Company. Don't even WanNa soon as you bring up the playoffs and the idea of changing or a plan formula or something like that the National Hockey League level instantly. They just yeah. You're it's conversation over and the reason I think they're so quick to dismiss all his obvious right. It's financial you need those full seven game series. Now they will say it's because of the entertainment value of the sport. Okay but what about if they what about if you know the sixteen get in and seven eight nine ten? Play two out of three financial. They'll be more playoff games. I guess there would be. I think we're going to use that. As a clip rate. Ferraro has a new play off for me. I do I do. I've just I'm fully endorsing it without ever really seeing it in practice. I'm going to watch it in the German league this year. And then I'll check back with you so just just as I begin the descent because we're going to land this plane pretty soon here. S Land a him standing outside the hotel waiting for the Uber. Yesterday to take me to Fort Lauderdale airport. Commissioner Batman comes out he's valeted is vehicle because he's got a summer home in in the area right so I'm curious. I'm wondering what kind of vehicle commissioned GIRBAN would roll around him right and I'm guessing an electric vehicle. Why is that? He's a hybrid. Kind of guy like just pure electric your leg. Tesla yes no so it. You know so automatically. I just had it in my head that he'd be in this like seven series. Bmw or a bigger Mercedes is something with some luxury you know. Law is riding luxury but a nine eleven porsche. Rolls up and it is rumbling. Like this thing has got a jet motor and I started giggling. Looks at me head but he gets into it and not paying close attention but and he's obviously doing it somewhat for show hits a button and of course the roof retracts. It's a convertible nine eleven. I would not have guessed that vehicle of choice. Maybe that's too much information. You might be sorrow with me but I took pictures as well. I just I wouldn't. I wouldn't post them. Also them to you ray. When we're traveling I'll show them commissioner Bettman in the nine eleven convertible. It's not a bad look pretty. Yeah I would have never guessed it once. You'RE GONNA say one thing I'm going to say I just saw this right now. Congrats to a really good guy Tim Peel the official. He's coming back today. Was supposed to be for the year eat fractured his leg. Just to gross injury but Timmy Peel back and good for you. Tim Yeah I watched them. Did you see the video of him working out like a week or so ago? I couldn't believe he was that far along. Good for him. That's awesome. What's your week? "That's because I'm trying to change the outlook that I have things where have tended to be very glass half? You haven't tried to kind of change that approach. Yes you know. Today it would have been one of the days that you have complained about in principle because you got the flight that landed Pittsburgh and you have one of the worst dries rocky. Where you guys got airport to the city and you hit that the traffic and all that and You know today whereas I probably would have generally in the past and making jokes about the ride or whatever it might that are all just slightly. Skewed negatives I put my headphones in. I listen to something I kind of took me out of that and to that extent I agree with you that Everything feels everything. Feels great right now and I. I took these days for granted because they felt like such a burden and they they never. Should they absolutely your Nanny Gel and you're traveling to another city to play another hockey game. I'm assuming you still smiled when he got to the tunnel in Pittsburgh like I'm almost there yup. Yeah that's when you know exactly right now bobby. So you're you're back with this team that. Oh my gosh through the youngest team around you must feel like thirty two. You must feel like you're the oldest Guy Miley. How do you view yourself as an older guy now or you just want to be a mentor? Do you want to be a leader? Do you want to just be a player? Like what goes through as you step back into this. I think ideally you you kind of you wear every cap in spurts for me right now. I WANNA finish the season as a player and and finish strong right. I WANNA I WANNA private that. I still have years left me because I don't know what my future holds. Two years left on the contract but You know you guys know as well as anybody. That's always that's always able to be taken away from me so I wanNA prove I can do that but at the same time. We've got a lot of kids at that are learning everyday life in the NHL right the the ups and downs and I guess the engine analysis of of dealing with coaching staff. And and you know it's very easy the young guy to get in your own out about things and So I guess there's a there's a sense that I'll be a sounding board for some of them and and you know guys have common. I hope they continue to come to any of these questions about things because you just WanNa you WANNA set their mind right so that they can play and And play to the best of their abilities and the future is pretty bright with a few of them. There's some really really good players that that you don't WanNa see get bogged down by the losing right of of of a process that that is a rebuild to you. You just want to keep them fresh. You WanNa keep it exciting for them and you want to expose them to to new things every now one of those young guys of course. Josh Norris and he's going to be part of the Ottawa. Senators future no question about that. How confident is this young? Because I mean this literally happened at a not last Thursday You've got the empty netter. And he is screaming for the PUCK. Is that accurate yes? He gave a yellow. I heard it Very very briefly and then I I check my shoulder to because I couldn't believe it I had to watch the video to really get you know. He expected me to threat of pass through the fence. That Yeah Eve. Excuse equate the kid. He's going to be a heck of a player. I am Bobby. Right in saying yeah. Yeah that's a first for me. I can say now I have at all but yes. You're he is one heck of a kit in euro. Are you really good hockey player? You're hundred seventy two games from one thousand. Is that His Eddie your brain at all. you know one of the one of the things. I thought about over the time out of the game was that number because yet you sign a seven year deal. Wh Twenty Six. I believe I was give or take. And you think that You know a thousand gain is is a no brainer Given where I was in a time of the contract and all that and you get some injuries and then I mean this is obviously a different circumstance. You look at all. The Man Games lost that I've had unfortunately broken hands and and this that It seems like it's a very you know uphill battle to get there right now but I would I would certainly like to. I'm certainly going to give everything I have to it. I still think I got the Machi lusted meat and That is the plan to keep keep climbing towards. The you mentioned your your hand injuries. I gotTa Tell Ya man. We're doing the broadcast. I've never seen a guy get hit in the hand. Do Wear Mittens. What do you think it's incredible isn't it? You can't you can only do so much. The gloves you guys now and we did a lot of them But you just I mean you can't plan for that I mean they're just majorly majorly freak accidents for you. Go out to block the shot and actually turned out of the way of shots to not get my hands at where everybody right up shop and break the inside fingered. I'm just so you can. I mean you can't write this so I I've been lucky. Knock on wood that I haven't had to deal with them once this year I had a Lotta time off. Obviously but it looks like I might get through one season unscathed on the injury. I gotTa tell you to be honest here. There there is a game. It was It was last year and a shot. Came the -flective hitching the hand. And you want to get looked at the producer says in my ear. Bobby's gone down the tunnel. He got hit the hand. I'm like Oh come on stop it and I was giving it to the producer among hit again. I'm like you're kidding me. And he's Nolan. Then I had A. I had a nice role he said. I don't care if we give up fifty shot tonight because your defense and gets forty eight. Just get out of the way. He's just I want that in writing and I want you not around the league to everybody. That's doing our game some color. Tv radio whatever it might be. Because I'm I need to be able to say that. I got permission to do that. But it was getting to. That point where it was it was almost laughable. Speaking of laughing take us back now obviously. It is a tenth anniversary of the Golden Goal. I did they bring that up with auto. I'm sure that they have right. Of course. Yeah of course they guys. I'm newly over and we're talking solutions but is this true and I think there's a video out there The Anaheim ducks possess the video. Where gets laugh? Perry is a neater buyer. Did they literally nickname you silver? Did that accident happen or or Chirp us at an actual Chirp of them calling you that came from Judea They had never named me. That but Somebody some some genius writer. Did it and I palled silver. It was once a week. It's it's amazing I I'll hear it on the ice around here walking around talent and somebody gets once a week and have just been able to escape it but The videos did turn out. Well I will. I will say that that We did a good job with those. And and I. I do wish I had you know. Read the fine print at that. Nickname was gonna stick with me forever. These former Olympians. Who are who are saying this to you on the ice or is it just some average player. Who got on the players have? Yeah no the players never hear it all the time around town like In Ottawa here from opposing fans. I get it yeah but never from the players thankfully because if I did I mean that's that's a fight on site. I think if he just lets you gotTa have a conversation right away or you can say yeah. At least I was in the Games. You were not well. You don't let I probably only played about three minutes. Then the guy that whoever allies I I remember ticket penalty the went okay. I think I'm GonNa Grocery secure for the rest of the way but that was the longest two minutes of my life. You still have the RV or did you get rid of that. And by the way Ray brought this up because we do a lot of preparation for the Rangers podcast and he asked me via taxi. Said does bobby still of the RV. And I said I don't think so didn't have didn't you name it like Gretchen. Or something like that What was her name Darlene Darlene? Sweet we waited and sold it to us in Idaho and we drove it for a bit. It got harder with kids so we sold it and Keep the family. I sold it to my dad's now takes up room in his driveway in South Jersey Do have to it and and I gave him absolutely zero of a deal. I signed up for every penny that was worth. But it's been some time since I've been in good old Darlie cat forget Darlene bobby. We really appreciate you taking the time to join us. Your great role model. Both on and off the ice and can't thank you enough for being so candid today my pleasure. Thank you for having me appreciate a you know we're fourteen array to be surrounded and what we do on a day-to-day basis and covering the National Hockey League. By so many good people you'll be in ownership management coaching Clearly the the number of players that we cross paths with you certainly on a day by day basis hard to beat the character of Bobby Ryan the adversity that he's faced you know he. He talks openly in the podcast. And the interview about going on a three day road trip. And then recognizing that now there. There was work that had to get done any. Couldn't put it off any longer. He's not that far removed from being away from that treatment process yet. He speaks so openly and so candidly about his experience and his future. I can't imagine even though he was describing it to us that head space of as he's on the ice in Detroit saying if I don't get off the ice now and leave I'm just GonNa Chalk this up to another bad day and grind my way through it and it'll you know and I'll just go on like he whatever rock bottom must have been for him. It had the come to a head in Detroit that day and I find like he said you know he's. He's an extreme introvert and yet he speaks so easily or openly. I just I have always found him to be a super engaging guy and easy guy to talk to in a you only hope for the best here forum for all of these people that go through some addiction recovery. They often talk about the difference between recovery and recovering and recovering is what they're doing. You Know Brian McGrath and has been a A really positive Example of someone that's been a decade has been sober for a decade in. He just passed a anniversary of it and manually. I saw them in Calgary When I was doing a game there he forgot. I hadn't seen him in a while for like how giant man he is and you know this ten years ago kind of brought him to his knees. And he's like I get I gotta get right and I have great admiration for for Bobby Ryan for for what? He's done what he's doing by being public with this and trying to give somebody else a glimmer of hope as to what can be very generous with his time joining us on the brain dregs hockey podcast. We tease this off. The top of the PODCAST and we're shifting over now to throat punch and we talked about how media over the last handful of days anyway as Talked about the major trophy winners in the voting process and really boiled into one right. And that's the quest for the Hart Trophy and I guess the primary reason Ray for having that conversation is because you've got connor mcdavid and Leon Seidel on the same team can two players on the same team be nominated in the top five for the heart and man..

"Well an emotional return to the Canadian tire center last week as Ottawa. Senators veteran forward. Bobby Ryan provided us with certainly one of the great stories of this. Nhl Year and scoring a hat-trick in his first game back on home ice after being away for more than three months and treatment for alcohol. Abuse the Bobby Ryan now joins US ON THE RAINDROPS HOCKEY. Podcast and bobby take us back to. Last Thursday's game now. The crowd is chatting your name. There was so much so much love in that building. And you're clearly caught up in the moment as many of us were. Why was it such an emotional experience for you? I think it was just a long a long three months that That kind of culminated in just the perfect evening to come back and to do not only to win but to do that My wife was in the building. Who's been through a lot with me here and The reception just was was above and beyond and I wasn't sure what I was. GonNa get overwhelmed by scoring first and then the reception. Just Kinda got louder all night and It was tough. It was kind of tough to hide it. You know being front and center like that so it caught up with me in the third period. But I tried to do my best to kind of the game bobby. What was the what was the toughest part of of being away? The toughest part of the hundred days as you talked about the first thirty days. The you know the first thirty days a year. You're you're on that I've facility so it's across the country from a guy is my wife. Kids obviously All of that that ties in. And you know you're going through you know not always realizations about yourself. But you're learning a little more anger you you feel very isolated You feel like you're you know you're battling it on your own and you are but you you know I feel like I had support through through that but it just being away from everything. That's their kids day. In and day out was probably the hardest part And then you know to to Kinda weather that storm Being so distant from from from everybody I guess would have been the hardest part but You know getting through the first thirty days was instrumental. 'cause I got back to a rhythm pretty quickly once I got back to. Ottawa was didn't make it any more or was it insignificant than it was public knowledge. Where you're tough question. I think it for me. You get there and you you have that period where you have no contact with anybody so for the first seventy two hours while all the news was coming out. I was very Very unaware of what was happening. And I appreciate it that for the most part but one year when it does hit hits like a ton of bricks and And you have people that you know reach out. And and there's there's a ton of support that's first and foremost but outside of that a Lotta People Wanna go deeper with that and then have conversations that you're just not ready to have and that felt like it was a little overwhelming but the whole the whole public side of it. I knew I knew what I was getting into. Getting off the is in Detroit and making that decision so I break for it. Expected IT and You know looking back I mean. It's been a very short window but it's been a blessing and in a very thinly veiled disguise right like did you. Did you have anybody that you can find it in or was it just kind of you and your wife and then you you had to make this step by yourself to make it by myself. I and I did And I can fight it in her. And you know I think those people that know me know that You know a wood mall now diagnosed as an extreme introvert but my circle very small and and There wasn't a lot of people that I felt like I needed to to really involved in the process of the day to day things. I just wanted my wife to know that That I was doing it right and and you know she helped me realize that this time to do so it felt like it was just taking the journey in and you know some outside friends that reached out from time to time but it was really me getting better for for myself first and foremost but but certainly from my family when you're away for the first thirty days as you mentioned are you. Are you in contact daily with your wife for or you? Kinda really by yourself. No you get. I mean I in contact daily Even I you know in the twenty first century radio. It's everybody understands that with cell phones and whatnot. You have to be writing that that. There's a seventy two hour freeze which I don't even think I made it for seventy two hours before I said I'm calling my wife right It's it's not a conversation. It's it's what's happening so the people were very very good about that kind of stuff and allowed me to do that and You know I went there from a road trip so I I had a three day bag. Doc This wasn't in the car or the plans at the time. And you know within twenty four hours they pick academy enough to go out and Kinda by all the things I needed to get through the month but It's it's it's a very. It's a very odd process bobby. I'm I'm really admire your your openness and as I'm listening to this I'm thinking like so somewhere you made this decision you said you went on a three day road trip. You made your decision somewhere on this trip that I gotta get help. Get the hell out of here. Like was there one moment or Wizar- a couple of moments that made you know I gotTa do this now but into the season and and really things kind of escalated for me over the past. It's been years but it's been it's been worse in the past little while and I you know I had times where I said to my wife. Okay that's where I'm doing this and I did it and I would do it for twelve days or I would do it for three weeks or whatever it might be but you when when you don't have anything. I want to say a program. 'cause that's not the word but when you don't have anything substantive to Kinda help you alleviate the things that lead to the problems the drinking problems. I had no foundation of how to do it except for white knuckling Almost be militaristic in their approach. Where all the other areas of my life took took a hit because I was so intent on this but leading up getting off the ice in Detroit. I just you know that morning. I had a panic attack and You know coffin in just a horrible horrible shape couldn't couldn't get get myself to to go on the ice one more time and I think anybody that knows that plays whether it's an injury or whether it's this Y- find a way to kind of grind Through it you you you warm up you know you take a couple of deep breaths and remind yourself that this is your job and your profession. You gotta find a way to do it but I was halfway through the third day. Not even maybe in and just said this is I go now I'm GonNa get through this practice and I'm Gonna I'm GonNa Chalk it up to another bad experience and I can't. I can't have that I couldn't have a professionally but most importantly I couldn't have you know personally. Wow you know. There's for obvious reasons bobby. We we can't talk a whole bunch about the actual Substance Abuse Program Right the Shared Program Gel and the players association and again. It's it's strictly confidential. You're sharing your experience but I I bring it up in that way because I think it's important to acknowledge how how important the program is and how well it works and perhaps your our most recent example I mean. Can you imagine where you might be if if not for the help that you have received to this point and I'm assuming that you'll you'll continue to receive moving forward and they were? I mean I can't I can't say enough about it at a time I hated it I kinda hated the first thirty days of the rigidity The you know the rules and The therapy and and the things that you really have to tackle in the first thirty days to have any kind of success in my mind You know Dr John. Lewis who everybody is well aware of or credible You know I was extremely upset. What after thirty days I wasn't able to rejoin the team. I didn't know that so they kind of make you go through those little tiny steps that you fight against the entire way. And you're and you're asking. Why can't I do this like him? I do that but they have that plan and plans been proven to work that you have to handle your affairs in your sobriety in very shorts first and then as you handle that you get you get a cookie and like cookie. Waste every two weeks and get a little bit closer to rejoining the team or I read join me. You know just being allowed at the rink or whatever might be so you know. I. I was standing at the practice during during the Bell Capital Cup. Which is the biggest whatever squirt hockey tournament in the world and and I felt like I was like why am I not getting the rink? And do this in private. And I'm I'm out here in front of people but Each little step was just kind of you know a step in the right direction for me to prove to them that it was that I was able to take on more and Looking back now. I'm very very glad I did it on on their on their step process and their you know their program. Sure when you know when you're you know before you went into the program you had your hockey routine. Whatever that might have been you go to practice you get coffee here you go do this practice you go home you got a game day. Routine does all of that change mommy. It has for me I changed everything you know off the ice as well. My routine looks a lot different but you know surrounding hockey. The there's so many similarities from the time of the buses took whatever. It might be the game day skate all that kind of stuff that you can't change a ton but you can change the little things you do and you know. I had to learn how to I had to learn to take five to ten minutes for myself in the morning. Kinda just get my head in the right place because if I start my day off in the wrong they're wrong mindset throwing money you know frame Done it kind of. I've had tough days from there so I haven't taken the time to do it so I spend my drive to the rink. We really focus on things like that But you know once you get back into the rhythm a of a Game Day. It's tough yet. You're still going to warm up the same and you're still going to go back to all the same things that you do as a player you know you. You said something in your first game back. You interviewed with Chris Gothard interviewed you. And you said maybe you took the game for granted now. I don't have this experience to share with you but what I do know is when I left the game and somebody asked me. Would you like to play again? The only days I wanted back. We're the ones that. I was pissing and moaning all the time I hated the travel I hated track this Like do you feel you got to like. Hey this is a new leaf. A new lease on on my hockey life like does it feel different. Yes it does. Yeah everything does part of..

"Some kind of event that you heard like you know a sale at Joe's hardware that you heard one time right like I don't I don't maybe there was a guy who wasn't working with all faculties. No there's a guy beside me on the plane. This was last week and he was goon. This sounds like me. He kept. Yeah but he kept doing it and so finally I go. Excuse me cover. I make a symbol like cover your mouth right right and he looks. I go read the papers right and he just looked. Please cover your mouth man. This is such a Ray Ferrara story. Man See this is the fun part of the traveling with you and I appreciate why you would do it but most people would think about saying something but you act right like this guy in your mind crossed the line. While I'm like okay an another day it would just annoy me right right. Like I'd say noise would annoy you. Well Yeah Go. Hey you don't drink water. I'd offer them some water at clear your throat. But this I'm like hey POW like seriously take a gander around you. There's the corona virus is on every day. We see it every day. There are people walking around more people. All the time with masks I know. Do you think they're doing this? Just because all eager tiger almost got throat punch nomination this week again. We'll all. Yeah so so. We board the airplane on Saturday morning to go to Florida. And she's one of these people I look. I like tidy environment right when I on the few occasions. Unlike you where I five business class they give you the hot towel and I use it to clean the area right. My face is clean. I showered. I don't need to have a hot towel on my face. So we're sitting in steerage in the back and hall he's got like a VAT of Lysol wipes and insisting that I do everything. Like arm rests laughed right the tabletop. The headrest and I mean I guess I shouldn't be surprised and it's just preventative measure. You've been married thirty years almost thirty years so Yeah I was GONNA say. Is this a surprise at any point? Here no she. She is super health conscious. When it comes that this was taken to another level but to her credit bit in her defence. I look around. And there's one hundred people doing the same thing on the airplane looking after you drag. She's just so make sure that you're well stocked and ready when you get on your on the plane for your travels later today. We're GONNA talk about the off site tweak role but we're going to do that as part of our between the benches coverage all right. Let's take a look at our top five hockey headlines from the week that was and I think we need to dive into the playoff push share a little bit more deeply. Obviously coming off the trade deadline. We exhausted all the story. Lines that swirled around the changes made their the Vancouver canucks if we start with Canadian team of lost. Four straight as of Last night loss to the Arizona. Coyotes and really not a lot different when you look at the Pacific Division where you look at the Central Division. It is a dog's breakfast with all the teams that are in the mix there now a while ago you suggested at the time this clarify at the time the Vancouver canucks were the best team in Canada. We're not gonNA pile on the Vancouver canucks here. I mean you look at Washington Tampa Bay. These are teams struggles. Bullet happens over. A course of the year is this strictly related to the loss of Jacob Marks from I I actually thought Denko I didn't see all of that game against Arizona but I saw a fair bit. I mean they got unlucky on the crazy bounce on the first goal that the coyotes scored but just a track this back to her mark. Stroman is gone because of injury and now Vancouver to seems to be way less confident than they were prior to that while the the cracks are are widening for sure. The panic is rising in Vancouver. And and then there's of course a group of the fan base in media that say well of course this is going to happen. Happens all the time to them and Look I think Vancouver's by far better team than they've been they've they've they've quite obviously grown into a better group than than they were previously now. They're in a. They're in a spot here. They're still in the first wildcard spot. Got Seventy four points. They're you know they're they've played to less games than Winnipeg Arizona. They you know they all have seventy four points. Those three teams But Vancouver's got two games in hand. They play their next three games at home. Their point up on Minnesota and two points up on Nashville so doesn't matter your division or the wild card that in the west by guest like these. It's just it's jammed in. It's not really going to change. They have said for a couple of years and lots of teams. Say this now. It's kind of become a catchphrase that they wanNA play meaningful games in March which they're playing. However nobody tells you that you're supposed to win those games they're supposed to be meaningful games. They're hard to win and because they're hard to win because everything's a little more desperate and you've never really been in them before you make inexperienced mistakes whether you're a veteran guy or a young guy. You make inexperienced mistakes of playing under the pressure of this playoff race. You're game slips a bit. They missed Jacob marks from terribly They don't defend particularly well. They give up a lot of shots And if your goal tending comes off the save percentage average that you were getting which marks from was among the leaders and you're going to give up a few more goals. Thirteen of their last. Fifteen games drags. They'd given up at least three goals too hard way to win. Now just thinking those thirteen games. I gotTA score four goals to win minimal and the in. That's just. It's a really difficult thing night after night. I mean it it wears on you. You know th they're on pace to be the. Nhl's most improved team offensively. But right now. They're in a dive and they get like last night. Borat and Jake Virtanen. This is a game against Arizona Bullhorn at Jake Virtanen and Tanner Pearson were awesome. That they had a Virtanen that might be the best game. I've Seen Virtanen play Nice. He had an assist. He hit a goal post. He missed breakaway. He was fast and physical is everything that they hoped he would be when they drafted him sixth overall yet it was a pretty quiet night for Patterson and Miller. It's like they can't quite get it all gone at the same time. Quinn Hughes his come off even though he's getting points he's come off his game a little bit which is totally predictable for a player of that age. Kristan of is really taken aback. Step and that's that's their defense pair that they a lot and so you know for ten of it's been you know the the most remarkable thing is. He's been healthy this year. Poor guy gets hurt all the time but he's been healthy but I think he's wearing down a little bit and so they've got to find a little inspiration a little. You know a little more from a few more players. They're not far away but you can see they've played themselves back into a place where you're on the thinnest of wires to make an it or not make out. There's you know now. The pressure comes to the coach Travis. Green who I does. I mean I'll I'll be full disclosure. I'm I'm known travis. For thirty five years these it is a good friend. I hope he does well but I think he's a good coach too and right now. They're they're playing just well enough to lose. He's getting surly though right. And that and then that that's a byproduct of of working in a real intense market and Vancouver is that every Canadian market is that and there's a number of them around North America. No question but man. Sometimes you can just feel the surliness. Lotta Travis he's addressing the media especially Yeah I. I don't think there's any question the day to day in the Canadian markets is much more difficult than most in the league. Heck we saw Claude Julien. You Know Super Experience coaching a week ago. Come out with the great line. While we can't put our skates on and play for the players. Will I hope not? I've seen those guys skate. They're not very good skaters anymore. They wouldn't have a chance. And so you can just see like the pressure that in the you know they they really want to say something else but they don't But for Vancouver like I think Travis has to has to be calm. He's got to be confident. And because your team whether they think so we're not. They take their lead from from their coach. It's not just in Vancouver. I think I think Winnipeg can do it. really easily because Paul Maurice in my opinion deals with the media as well as anybody in the sport really as well as anybody in almost any professional sport that I can think of. He's engaged as you can tell. When he's had enough but he engages he gives a little answer he gives a little information and I think that's the best way it keeps the flies off a little bit when times. Get like this. Another good buddy yours. Dean evison is doing nice work with the Minnesota Wild as the interim head coach there and You know around the trade deadline. Well let's back it up a little I billy Garin. As as a young general manager comes in there and I liked his approach in that there was nothing knee-jerk about anything Garin did leading up to the trade of Jason Zucker to the Pittsburgh Penguins on following with. You know the firing of Bruce Boudreau but by that time he had had enough to just digest some the changes that he felt were important to make and that includes a coaching change. But could we predicted that the changes the adversely that the Minnesota wild have faced and continue to deal with would actually fuel this team back in the playoff mix. No I mean honestly drags. I had written Minnesota off about a month ago and then all of a sudden while two months ago to be honest and then they're like oh man the right back in it again There is some changes that that have been made from Dean Everson. He's gone almost exclusively to Alex. Taylor lock in goal. Since the middle of January stay lax got ten wins and goal at ties in with the Andrei Vasilevskiy for number one in the NHL. That's after their last game they beat Nashville. Three one Kevin. Fiala who was brought over in a trade from when Paul Fenton was the general manager. Fenton Nuham really well from Nashville. And he made the trade for Mikhail Grantland. Who's started the play really well in Nashville again? This is looking like a trade that a teams are getting something from Fiallos. Got Five multipoint games in a row. He is a dynamic player. And he's really at the peak of his confidence under Dean Evanson. Their six three an old The rate back in the mix as we mentioned. Now they're one point behind the wildcard Behind the first wildcard in the West. And so there in that clump with Vancouver Winnipeg Arizona in Nashville. They've somehow found a way to fight their way. Back in. Some of this too is well. Would you always go back to this point? I go back to Brian Burke When when they won the Stanley Cup in two thousand eight? I believe the first thing he did when he when he was doing his interviews was he thanked the previous general manager. He thanked the previous organization. Because you don't just drop in and change everything yourself you're you're you're reaping the benefits of some of the positives that have been done in front of you. And and I would say you know like Paul Fenton Acquired Kevin Fiala and that's worked really well for Bruce. Boudreau was on a pretty good little run as coach Just before he was fired now. Bill Garin decided. I need to make a change. And while they've won seventy percent of the game since DNA evidence taken over. So there's lots that's gone into this but one of the steps that I think you know has to be acknowledged is that they're young guys Ryan Auto Jordan greenway loop cannon. They've started to play and produce on a more consistent basis. Now you've got fiyal is well. You'll Ericsson AC is another one. A first rounder. From a few years ago. These guys all developed under Bruce Boudreau and lots is coming together right now for Minnesota and to me it's a it's an off the Mat story like I. I didn't think they were. They were going to be a factor at all and yet here. They are in a and I'm happy for Dean by the way if you haven't heard I think it's episode two. We had Dean Everson on this as one of our guests. I'm telling you and this is just not crop up our show. Please go back and listen to it. Find the Dean Evanson episode and listen to this Guy My old roommate and Binghamton in the American Hockey League. I'm man we had. We had some fun and he is. He opened up the barrel a couple of times. Monday night in bulk up so The General Manager and National Hockey League honored Bob Gainey. They honor a hockey type on an annual basis. As part of these meetings so Kelly criminal the Vegas Golden Knights has some time to kill so I met him after work by the way for a beverage..

"Thousand eighteen. They've been splitting the home games at both arenas while the now announced that the islanders are now done with at the end of this season the regular season. They're going to be guns. Oh from Brooklyn over and out Bob. I never play there again. They're GONNA play all their playoff games. This season at NASA and then all of their regular season games in playoffs next season at Nassau Coliseum. So I think that's going to be a Neat Swan Song. Because after that they moved into a new building near Belmont Park on a full-time basis but Got Me to thinking about great arenas and that's rb computing web poll today what is your favorite former. Nhl Arena whether it's torn down or not whether you were actually there. Were all your memories from television. What is your favorite former? Nhl Arena and your favorite memory of the moments within that arena. I'm going to say northlands Coliseum for you James. Well what northlands is okay. Been around a while when I when I got here. Maybe maybe not living in a living in a town like I grew up in Sudbury When we moved to Ottawa there was no there was no team yet. The Civic Center was the biggest in any town. I lived in at the time so when I did come out here and saw big size arena. It was pretty cool. It was pretty cool and then the atmosphere was well off the map Rasiah. I arrived in one thousand nine hundred. Eighty five Steve with Molson who is sponsoring the team and I walked in and said here's your season tickets. You'RE GONNA look after the oilers. Here's an expense account. Here's a company car and we go to every game you know for free. Oh Okay Okay. I can do that and who's playing tonight. Yeah that's Wayne now and all that small group of guys that have been kicking up some so northlands is cool very nice. What Are Yours Montreal? Forum would be one because I was big fan when I was little and I remember going to my first halves game and I felt like literally felt like this must be heaven or something like that like walking up to the building and seeing those lit up white hockey sticks as big giant white lights that were in the shape hockey sticks that were on the front of the form back. Then that you'd see at the start of hockey night in Canada. I was actually in front of that building looking at it. Like Oh my God. I'm going to the Montreal to watch the Montreal Canadians play. I remember the way it looked when the guys get in there. I'm in the nose bleeds but I'm still seeing the Montreal Canadian skating around taking the warm up. I remember the hot dogs And the game I saw. It was a playoff game between Montreal. Quebec the Battle of Quebec and I think I think it was say Bowl Bergelin scoring and overtime so the home side was not very happy but it sure was a hell of a night and I will never forget that and I also think about Montreal formed from the Soviets Montreal Canadian's exhibition game where they played to the three draw in a game that a lot of people call the greatest game ever played certainly one of the most exciting Steve. Shutt about that a number of years after it happened and asked His grace game play no way not at all. Maybe the most exciting though. There's no question and tragic accident has head that night so I'd have to go Montreal forum all the way for me in terms of just you know as Ken Dryden always says you know the Golden Age of hockey is whoever was playing that you loved when you were ten years old. Well that's it for my. Yeah my very first game in an NHL Reno was the Montreal Forum in Nineteen. Seventy four nine hundred seventy five. And it's I I've seen the RENA and I was. I was completely struck with how bright it was when I walked in because of course it has to be right for TV and I remember I went to a bunch of junior games for the wolves you know. That was a Friday night deal right. That was big night out but I was twelve or thirteen. And someone's thirteen or fourteen. That was my first game. And that's the number one thing I remember while. Is it ever bright. You know the way they have them. The rink all lit up the ice surface and that was Boston and Ken. Dryden was a net and Bobby. Orr was still playing for Boston. So that was a cool game and the other one. I went to Maple Leaf Gardens in one thousand nine hundred seventy two. There was a small series. Then Steve What was that thing. Oh yeah Russia's series. I went to one I went to that game. Did you leave early like you did? Game seven of the two thousand three conference final with me. I remember that I got to go. It was in the fall that I got to go and I missed. The first day of school it was down trodden was going to school up in. Sudbury but we sat. So Hi Steve. You couldn't see the far side of the rink. There was a beam block here. Few deduct now and that was the maple garden so that was the greatest memory I had. I still have some finance for Chicago Stadium as well. That place was. I never got to go but it always looked like it was just an amazing place to watch a game with you. Know the the stands right on top and it was that will stadium organ. They had their That looked like it was just absolutely raucous. Every.

"Close today. James RB Computing Web poll today. Certainly were all inspired by Bobby. Ryan's story his attempts at a comeback after dealing with alcohol issues. And everybody's pulling for him and it got us to wondering what would you say is the most? Inspirational Athlete Story. That you've ever heard of there been so many over the years whether it's a tale of sort of a triumphant comeback just anything that any storyline really inspired you any that come to mind. I do I do and I. It's the guy still does it. And I think it's Corey Hirsch. The goalie played for Vancouver. Yep We're Olympia and former Olympic and this guy has made it his mission to talk about mental health and depression and everyone's aware of the big the big day one of the best promotions ever. Steve of all time is bell. Let's Talk Day and this guy still carries on that thing. Every time I see stuff on social media. He's talking about you. Know getting people to talk about it and supporting them and stuff. And that's that one comes to mind right away for me on that and I'm sure there are several others. I always liked the Koivu. Come back that guide stomach stomach cancer. Game Shot Zakho when he came back from the Jennifer Capriati is another one. I'm really dating myself here. But she got addicted to heroin and came back and won a major tennis major. Yeah those great stories. And it doesn't necessarily have to be battle with addiction and overcoming that that certainly inspiring and certainly qualifies but it can be any number of different things like the PAT. Tillman story was incredible. One of the most Patriot patriotic athletes we ever saw just played four years with the Arizona. Cardinals live in the life of reilly the guys ripped he's healthy good lookin' he enlisted. He left the NFL enlisted in the US. Army and sadly tragically was killed in Afghanistan from friendly fire. A couple of years later two years after joined the military. I don't know that you could do a better story of inspiration than that giving your life. Fear country when you had the life of reilly totally dog great. Great Story Great poll great bulk of the feedback. We got on twitter at tsn. Steve Sandra Gagnon rights. It's a tossup between Clark MacArthur's April twenty seventeen return to the lineup after his concussions and Craig Anderson shutout performance in his first game after his wife's cancer diagnosis in two thousand sixteen as excellent choices. "Other reasons but obviously but You know this is Everything everything led me here and and I wish it hadn't taken so long in the last three years for me to get to where I am but I would urge anybody. I read so many articles about other players in certain capacities that I had a lot of time. On my hands that I drew parallels with a lot of guys. So if there's anybody that I guess here's it in some sense and and can recognize something and and and find a way to ask for help hopefully a little more publicly than than I urge them to do it and I guess there is some silver lining. So there's Bobby Ryan talking about the idea being a role model and as he said he'd like to be a role model for something else like being a you know a multi fifty goalscorer and people looking up to him that way but He also acknowledges some others might be inspired by adding everybody in the city of Ottawa. Whether they were really disappointed. In what Bobby Ryan has been as an Ottawa senators for seven million dollars a year or whether they were fans all along everybody was one hundred percent inspired by the person impressed by all the things he had to say. The other thing for people to remember is a lot of these. These guys are put on a podium. You know they. They play in a town where people are just beyond enthralled right. They're the only game in town since fans are everywhere like him or hate him by whatever they do and and these guys are heroes right not just to children right but the families and suffering fans and all that stuff and they're so when when you hear news like this right people are kind of shocked right and they're like Oh my God. How could that happen to a person who's got the world by the tail makes tons of cash is having the time of his life? He's living his dream and the answer is that that nobody absolutely nobody no matter what. Their situation is immune to addiction right. Trump's all and it happens all day long and people gotta remember that right because Antonio Brown. I'm almost sure this guy's got some mental health issues and I wouldn't be surprised if he's got some personal demons. Yeah I don't want to put words in his mouth or anyone else but people have to remember that they gotta remember that New York for sure and Bobby Rhines. Childhood Public Childhood Demons are quite public. He's spoken about it before. His Dad was abusive toward his mom. They were basically on the Lam for a while as police were trying to track to change his name so there were some difficult childhood. His mom passed away. I think about five years ago. Something like that. He she was part of kind of his safe world. Hockey was part of his safe world and he'd had nothing but success until the last couple of years right so when that you know. He suddenly being a healthy scratch now over this past season. And I'm sure that it all kind of came home to roost mentally and all that and We deal the way we deal. And that's all part of it. So yeah there's a lot of Bobby Ryan that is blast but You don't we also has handed some bad cards in the early days. So.

"Than that thankfully Netflix. So there's Bobby Ryan and conversation with the media on Friday and I thought that was courageous. It was inspirational. And I don't know how you don't pull for a guy like Bobby Ryan After a performance like that yeah you know everyone was wondering right. Wh Why he left the game and I think it was. He showed up for practice and then left in the middle of the practice or something. That's right they called it personal issues and everyone of course weighs in on that and I don't WanNa say that's one of the obvious things but it's certainly one of the for lack of a better term one of the options that you look at saying why. I wonder what this is and there's no doubt my mind right that there was. There was something strongly personal when a guy has sort of pulled off the ice or leaves the Ice Different Than Steve. Guy Doesn't show up and then they say look we've got a family issue or something like that right. There's a couple things here. That are remarkable for sure. You know it's IT'S A. It's a humbling day. When you gotTa face your demons when you gotta face was bringing you down when you gotta face mismanaging your life completely Taking it down at the seams career wise family wise friend wise all that stuff and so there's that issue where the guy immediately I guess went into the player Assistant Program for Substance Abuse. Which is which is fantastic. That that he did that The other thing is to come out and speak about it publicly so quickly is is really good on one. Hand Steve and on the other hand. I'm not sure I would have done that right away. can I jump in? Maybe going just like he did in fact He. He's been around the team skating with the team for many weeks now and he said I. I've been dreading this day where I've got to talk about it in the media so it wasn't a right away sort of thing and he's not back in the lineup just yet but I think that is imminent now because his fitness testing has been very good over the last few weeks. Yeah and listen. I'm you know obviously this the addictions close to my heart anyone's listening to the show over the last year or so understands that and and I couldn't be more proud of when I I don't know Bobby Ryan I've never met him but but I certainly know what he went through. You know. It's unfortunate that he has to go public with this thing again. The team probably for goes look. You've got to make a statement here because because of the situation people know this. Now you've been around you. Have the word gets out right. Steer and it's unfair to those those people public people that they have to come forward and talk about. It's a highly highly private matter. I don't think he felt he had to do it. Somebody's stashed in a news conference like that new scrum on Friday. I don't think anybody knew. Exactly what the issue was until about four or five minutes into the SCRUM One of the reporters asked a we. Do you WanNa talk about what it is. You're seeking counsel for and he. He freely admitted it was alcohol and that was the first I've ever heard of it officially in terms. I don't think it didn't. I didn't get a vibe. That Bobby Ryan spoke on Friday because the word was already out there. I'll tell you what. Why don't you want you tell people that? And you're maybe a month sober or a couple of months over fuck. You are so under a microscope right. Every time someone sees you in a in a parking lot or within five hundred yards of liquor store or have a glass in your hand. Data Charity Event. All voted for nobis. Okay so you would only know that you had some sort of counseling about recovery. So it's even more widely impressed when he has the option to go. No I do not want to talk about my personal life here. This is about the sense and and he'd have every excuse to do that but he chooses to to talk about it when the Guy Asom and and and that makes them very remarkable that might be part of the healing process for someone like that and and you know everybody's diverse No nobody has the same healing process. Nobody has what everybody needs different things in that healing process. And maybe for Bobby Ryan this getting it out there getting it all out in the open so it stops being taboo or whatever maybe as good and helps him along and And helps you can get back to where he was where somebody else would rather not go through that. It helps their healing process to keep it in house Yeah I like. I say if it was me I would i. Would I would choose not to do that so no I don't fuck I don't want to tell me what I'm fighting this battle But he but he didn't and and that is a real credit to the guy for him to say that when asked about it and we're most people may not. I know I wouldn't so in your bottle with it. When did the light go off where you said you did want to start talking about it and I would call people's attention to episode six of this particular podcast that was almost entirely devoted to you discussing your past demons with with alcohol and Drug Abuse When did you decide that I wanted to? I want to start talking about this. I forget in. Oh my my my first crack at trying to quit was in the mid to thousands early two thousands and I just had to get away. I have to go away and I had the Gig doing the morning show with you and Jr. and and I had no idea of it at that point just for the record for those who are longtime listeners. Yeah and so. I remember meeting the boss I had. I had this not a full contract. We signed sort of a six month deal because they weren't sure what was going to happen with the radio station actually way back then and I knew I had to go away. I was just. I was beaten down and he said when we did this deal this six months from now. What about holidays you know and and I said don't worry about it? You know all work the six and then I thought to myself may maybe I'll I'll take the opportunity to get away and I said you know I may need some some time off and he said why you know and I said I've getting some tests I was making all this shit up. You know. Get some tests from the doctor. I'm waiting to get results. And he said are you okay and and and I don't know what I was thinking. The wheels are spinning fast. But I knew I had to get help. And then the next day. I checked myself into treatment I phoned. The boss said the doctor phone and said I forget what I said. High blood pressure something and he said I got immediately take off work which was sort of bullshit and then I went to treatment the next day and then I phoned the boss and I said no. I'm at a Substance Abuse Treatment Facility. I wasn't real big on telling anyone about it. I asked for him if he can keep that confidential between him and he said absolutely he was. It was Chris Gordon and he was generally concerned about my well-being You know when I first did it Steve when I when I thought I would start to tell. People is a couple of guys. Phoned me After I got out of treatment guys I've met in there and you developed this quick bond and they phone me about six months later because they had relapsed and they're in a terrible state and the guy called me and said. Can you help me you know could you? Can you give me a hand here? I'm GonNa make it right you know and I remember saying fuck. I'll be right there of a right there. Like a lot of guys were for me and jumped in my car to drive a lot in our town to find this guy and it ended up helping them back on the road to recovery. And that's what made me think you know the the greatest thing about it and Bobby Ryan would probably attest to this when his when his thoughts probably were. Should I do this or shouldn't that you have the opportunity to help someone now by going public like he did and in my case. I'm nowhere near a public figure but once I experienced that when I ended up sitting with this guy for about two hours he was high and drunk at the time and then we waited around and got him back into treatment and Offi went and I think he's sober to this day. So that's what I thought you know you've got you've got a real opportunity here yeah So that's a long answer to your question. But but that's when I decided I should start to tell some that's that's great and I think is always going to be varying times when people and at varying reasons why people want to talk about it and actually in. Mendez who works at? Tsn Does the drive in the afternoon show He put that question. Bobby Ryan about the idea of talking about it as he is right now and the idea of maybe being a role model and inspiring others. Yeah I guess in in that sense of the silver lining you know. I'd like to be a role model for.

"Rb Computing Web bowl for today at Jimmy? Jam Should Pete Rose be reinstated. Now Pete Rose is filed for reinstatement statement to Major League baseball because of the handling of the Astros signed stealing scandal is that opened the door pete rose to be reinstated and thus be considered for the hall of fame. Does it change anything at all. Basically Pete Rose's stepping up today and saying to Major League Baseball. Hey Hey you're not banning them for life. Why am I banned for life right right so you know? Maybe the guy doesn't have a point I guess. But here's the thing with Pete rose it has been so long now and so much in the news about this every year it comes up every year at some point in the year it comes up about Pete Rose Somehow someway a you know someone breaks a record or his base stealing deal or whatever and it always comes up and everyone says the same thing. No No. You're not getting in if they put him in. Now though. Steve if you were Pete rose would you really want to be put in there now and and so he gets put in this year and and then everyone who walks through the hall of fame. Everyone's GonNa Walk to but let me tell you about. PM Rolls Okay. His He needs an open heroes. Okay so I say if I don't WanNa go in there. I think the reason it won't happen. Is that think about it for a SEC. Pete rose is asking for. Reinstatement the Major League Baseball. And he's basically saying that because of Major League Baseball's dumb decision to not ban all the Houston Houston Astros for life. The way they did. Pete rose therefore I should not be banned for life. Or you're asking Major League baseball to do. There is admit that the astro punishment I was dumb. Major League. Baseball is GONNA do that like if Pete Rose has any hope of this. Don't deal with Major League Baseball. The only way he can get this done I think a court of law. Yeah well maybe on the other hand you know the guy has a point guys appoint. I just don't think Major League Baseball is gonNA listen to it. Well there's certainly going to do it right away. That's for sure. But someone's GonNa come in you know what we've got an issue here. I will say this I think Pete rose. I'm definitely understanding why he's doing doing this. I just don't think you'll have any legs stand on with Major League Baseball. Yeah and and Pete. Rose's infraction was betting on sports betting on baseball. All and to me that leaves open a whole massive can of worms. That's that to me is worse than cheating. I think so too. cheaters are trying to win. That's right that's the that's the deal I've always had with Pete. Rose it goes. Well I bet I only bet on our team did you really. Did you really. Who knows right and it doesn't matter either? The only way that that would have any legs is if he bet on his team every single game of his managerial career. Otherwise what are you telling the betting community dirty on the days. You don't bet on your team even if you're betting on your own team to win by twenty runs I every single time it's still the optics are horrible. And you can't have it. And and every major sport has to clamp down on it and throw the book at Major League Baseball did regardless of what happened with the Houston Astros and regardless of what. The decision was in the punishment. I don't blame baseball for keeping their heels dug in So some of the feedback we got on this poll meltdown. Radio Radio Meltdowns. CKC You Charlie. Hustle is eight dollar haircut. They belong in Cooperstown set. Says it's a bad haircut Well it's not hair. Jim Set writes yes. Do you want to elaborate on that at all Jim bus driver Bruce Russillo one writes yeah. It's been long enough but do it with an asterisk just like the steroid guys put them all in be done with it. Aroma bean rights rose should be in the hall with a big asterisk beside his name for why he's banned from baseball the MLB screwed up the chance to send a message to all the cheaters. Their punishment of the Astros rose is a joke. Their championship should be voided and have asterisks everywhere. He likes the asterisks. You can't do that if you start doing that. Steve is like Jim Jerome in the hall of fame although he was four hundred home run home run shy and a bunch of wins short of it. So we'll put a little star beside him but we're GONNA put them in villains. Just put it in a house of villains at the hall and then just be like should we go in there. Oh kids away from come away from there while he probably the most popular popular place at Cooperstown if you had a hall of villains or how civilians whatever hockey lobster rights put them in the hall already snipe and Chirp if the Astros can keep their championships ships. I don't see how they cannot reinstate him and Sean Blackburn writes he needs to be in the hall. Rose is a great story in the Major League Baseball history straight. Thank you for all your feedback today. Ladies and gentlemen but will the Astros get to keep their championship. We don't know yet. Thank roses thing is have been no players who've been banned for life out of this whole thing even though they've been some really really guilty party us again. I really do you want to go in now. And everyone's going to fucking cheater. The Web Paul is presented by RB computing..
