"We only got three guys to play Summer League game, and so I remember call the sixers. And? I think Rod Thorn might have been down there in its fans game Saint Hey. Can we borrow for of your guys to get? In what happened? Was You know? Those are different than NBA rules where? They were like sure because for their guys. Maybe not playing to the agent was okay with it, but yeah, you were basically sharing rosters with with another team and I don't think we'll get to a point hoping to get a point, nine won't be allowed where. Portland has have to borrow Devon. Booker in. Andrea. Just get through I. Don't think that the commissioner will allow that, but yeah. I mean that's kind of what I mean. How the Rosser expanded seventeen nap. But those are the types of situations that you will see at work. Guys will start. I don't know about defecting because there is a financial component to it, but certainly guys sitting out. There is nothing to play for. Malaysia, think of what just I. Don't know maybe a month ago a track at time. In, this in two thousand and twenty, but maybe it was a month ago six. So that makes sense just one hundred and thirty seven March. Exactly right. Think of what. People were talking about with the nets in wet from hey. Could they possibly get K. D. and CARI BACK IN ORLANDO? COULD THEY I? Think about this? Hey, guys instead of trying to have to play a hundred games to win a championship eighty two regular season Games and then you know twenty plus in the playoffs. How about guys on play regular season? Games right and then get in the playoffs and you could back door get into the finals. In thirty some odd games and not only are, there will be no Kevin. Durant there'll be no kyrie irving. There's no Wilson Chandler's. He told you over the weekend and. The Andre. Jordan has indicated that he won't play. Spencer Dinwiddie a suggested. That's possible for him. I think there are other players on the nets as we know who are. Evaluating, what they're gonNA do what America. What is this year? What do you think? Did the nets. Make any progress this year was there anything to be gained this feel like a year for that organization whose championship? We knew they weren't GonNa Have K. D.. But we didn't imagine. A scenario where they would legitimately. Fear at the end of their season, struggling to field a team that includes anything, but what will what? WE'RE GONNA call substitute replacement players. There was a sense rate at least at the very least the nets we're going to be able to work.

"I know I mean right before the pandemic stop everything they are on pace to have home court throughout right I mean if you have home court that gives you a huge advantage and that. Leads to the decision of honest. Assign this at the supermax contract. Now it's going. It's in the fall and. There's a lot of pressure there. I think you know. Certainly when you know you having marquee player like that you know, be able to have them for the next five years any. If it's based on results only you knew that your driver's seat, and now the the the the level, even the little bit yet. It's a lot of a lot of pressure. I. Think the interesting thing is that you go from mid October piano game. Seven of an NBA finals is on October Twelfth, and the NBA started free. Sign that supermax Tober eight eighteen, so there's not much there's not much of a gap and dated there, but I would say certainly a lot I think they have to have a showing interestingly a lot of pressure then probably more than it would have been if if if there were some normalcy to that. Talking to The Front Office insider Bobby Marks I. Take your take on ESPN radio I'm Jason. Fitz Bobby when I talk to. Would you couple of days ago? About the calendar change that's happening. I asked him if the League was going to look at this possibly permanent shift to the calendar, and he made it sound like. Yes, they absolutely want to look at that. Would you support that concept of shifting the League calendar as a result of what's happening in keeping that shift permanently? Always in the belief that you know. Maybe we start. We start up and this was going to be the opportunity. We start up in around Christmas, and we kind of keep the calendar year where. The finals or during the july-august, and we're having a draft and free agency you have calendar goes from September one to August thirtieth. I thought that was probably made a little more sensitively. We flip flop and have freed, and she start the draft right after that it. It seems like that's not on the case. Though because you know if we're going to start on December, one and the goal is that they're trying to get you know. The playoff done by the Olympics assists for know for next year. You know the season is one hundred seventy seven days, and when you look at that end on May Twenty six, and then you start the playoffs, and then it looks like we'll be done by sometime. In mid July, for in two thousand twenty one, and that leads you to have the draft at the end of July and have free agency and you know in early. Early in early August, so maybe it will be a little bit of a longer you keep that in free winfrey agencies a little bit longer and starts in December so I think we're in a wait and see mode, but yeah I mean if the if there was an opportunity to kind of change and adjust the counter this is this the golden moment to do so? Bobby always great stuff, man, appreciate your insight. Appreciate your time hanging out with us. I appreciate, don't you? Me? SPN NBA Front Office inside of Bobby Marks always love bobby because you're talking about somebody that has so much perspective to the NBA having been in the front office like he was. "What can I ask you in your in your reporting and all the people that you do does the timing Jive to you because one thing that Adam said to the players on the call was. We don't have to make a decision in May. We don't even have to make a decision by early June. And I'm listening to Bobby. Run through all of these gymnastics and I think he's very kindly. Simplifying them for the purpose of this discussion. But that we're talking about what sounds in my head like yes. Robbie two months of negotiations at best right. And don't they have to have those negotiations done by the time they bring everyone back? So addition to figuring out the testing issue figuring out where they're going to play. I can't wait to see which players would rather be in. Orlando near Disneyworld. Would you rather compared to wish? Flairs would rather be in Las Vegas. That's going to be a humorous EIBAR Depending on what? Your vice is And all the other complications that go with figuring this out if Adam silver says hey. We don't have to make a decision now. We have to make decision in early June. How do they see the timing working out wo Jr so they actually get a season in before Thanksgiving well? That's their willingness. A few weeks ago or a month ago I had been reporting that they they're hopeless to have it wrapped up by Labor Day weekend that they wanted to be done before. Football started if if indeed. Football's GONNA start then but they become an that was wishful. It wasn't a hard deadline and the they're willing to go especially because there's such momentum towards starting the season mid to late December regardless of whether they played on pushing that back and then getting on a calendar that takes next season into August. Your power long would have to be that gives them more leeway here to delay and hold often. The Players Association told their players when they agreed to basically almost a second escrow of with the force majeure basically they were gonNA take a little withhold players money so that if games are cancelled which we we know they'll be regular see. Some regular games would be cancelled and the owners take that money back that the players did have to give it all at once that they told the players then we will know we believe we will know by June fifteenth and that was a little bit of an estimate. I think that's I can't imagine a scenario where we're in the middle of June and they haven't set guys were were. Were GonNA Open Up If you decided on June first opened up training camps you're not opening them up on June second and so it's GonNa take a little time to get them open. How long are they going to be? I think they're not going to be six weeks or not. Going to be five weeks and I think Adam put three to six weeks. I think three is the minimum Chris. Paul talked about at least three weeks of and I. I would be shocked if it was more than I think what they'll end up saying is hey. We opened up the facilities. You guys are getting back into it. Counts for some pain and so it but but Rachel you're right like I think they can get the season going to finish and resume it right bobby without needing to have next year salary cap because you pushed it back to the autumn. Let's let's say the draft and free agency are going to be at that point October and we know we're not I mean. They haven't cancelled the draft on June twenty fifth yet. it's coming. They're going to push that date back by all indications and so And if you're pushing the draft back you're putting free agency back with that. Buys THEM TIME RIGHT BOBBY? Yeah I mean I think I think when you look at it of course the cleanest way to look at it right would be. Yeah we get through. All the finals would be mid August right drafts. The end of August basically just pushing in September first agency starts right. We're just me basically pushed the counterbalance. The draft agencies have free agency. I'm GONNA have like a pig by on line..

"A good neighbor state farm is there. Let's start to kind of play out one Return to play might look like the season. Adam. Silver told the players that he would like to have not a shortened postseason. Best Five in the first round or a best of three than a best of five in two seven game series that he wants to have a full full playoff scenario. Best of seven series ideally and to do that. Listen there's only so many days they're going to have to play. And so if you want to try to put as much legitimacy as you can on a champion than on the front end which would be comedy regular season. Games might be played or a play tournament and when you talk to teams there's been an and atom didn't rule it out with the players on the idea of some kind of a play in tournament because right now the the eighth seeds in each conference are you're not gonna catch either of them especially if you're only going to play a few games before the playoffs the is not gonNA get caught but you've got incentivize for these other teams to go through training camp to put players out on the floor. I've had a number of teams. Tell me who are in that nine to ten eleven range. They're going to be more motivated to play their key players. If there's a chance they can get into the post season and I think that's what we're going to start to see a lot of people aren't going to get. It's not gonNA feel fair. It's not going to be what they want. And it's going to be Adam sober to sal. Everybody which is what he's been trying to do through this on the greater good of the NBA. Like for owners. This may not be good financially for you to have to play these games because you're not getting gate receipts your team's not in the playoffs and you guys in the Senate Seats Dallas and your Memphis you. Have you have thoroughly outplayed? Those teams are outside the playoff picture. And it doesn't feel fair that you can lose it in just a couple of days and they could gain in a couple of days but those are all the questions like that again. It gets back to the idea of the best of a lot about ideas. I think though it's an easier sell two teams in that eight. Who feel like man. We just deserve this outright than it would be if you were talking about the top seeds because realistically there's only one year in NBA history. Right where the she has made the finals. So the idea that. Oh if you're in the AFC you could have had the this year but you're going to get knocked out from a plan tournament and that's not fair and you would have been in an eight versus one you pro. I mean the statistical likelihood is better no matter how plucky everyone is that eight seed. They would have been eliminated after the first round so even though it is not fair maybe this year to have a plane tournament when you would have won that. Eight seed outright. You're talking about Uber. Take One playoff round as opposed to give or take of much chances of a title. I feel like maybe that's an easier. Sell two teams but I. I don't know I would say the counter to that. Rachel's if you looked at let's use the example of the NCAA basketball tournament right like the eleventh or twelfth seed knows. They're not going to the final four or they're fairly confident they're not but if you say hey we're not gonna put you in the NCAA. But I do think that's but it gets but you're right right so they're not GonNa win and it is in the end. Who Cares but I do think that's what's GonNa come back to this over and over. There are GONNA be a lot of scenarios and this is going to be Adam silver's job with the owners with his players. He's got sell them on the greater good and the importance of creating some interest doesn't play in tournament was probably coming in next season anyway The owners were getting ready to vote on it. That was the one you know. Some of the players Chris. Paul was not really. I talked to Chris Paul about that a couple years ago when the idea was first coming up he didn't love the idea and there are a lot of players who felt that way. Hey we earned our way in the playoffs. We did it over. Eighty two games like somebody should be able to jump in the league saying. Hey we've got a. We've got a drive. More interest in this thing and driving interests will be a big part of any return to play while I think the enrich the interesting thing. Is You know they'll be training camp of three to five weeks. A month may be but what happens from training camp to the playoffs right. What is that in between layer? If you are the Lakers for example are you going to allow them to jump into the playoffs? I is going to be some games before that. Is it fair to them that they will play the winner of Memphis verse? New Orleans were those teams of hardy. Played Games before where you actually played at series here. So I think that's going to be doing. Is there a your bring back all thirty teams to play or regular season games at the end of You know at the end of at the end of the regular season here. I think that's going to be the big part. As far as is that you know that next layer in between phase will the stakes are so different for every team right now this to me some of the most disparate situations we've seen among NBA teams in a really long time and was to your point teams that are completely out of it like the warriors? Mathematically statistically out of it we've discussed a lot in the past few weeks they have almost no incentive to play other than for that quote greater good being good team players that kind of thing whereas team like the Lakers you mentioned bobby has completely wildly different incentive not just because their title contenders not just because of the marketing and their deal with their local TV provider. Were if they hit that. Seventy Games work and all that stuff. But because they're one of their star players is at an age where this season is more valuable to him. The next season right. He's going to be thirty six next season so not as valuable as season so to them their incentive to get something this summer is maybe even greater than say the bucks right who hopefully they're hoping have centered. Kubo for years to come so it the sense what you had in your story a week ago. Where you cited general manager saying it's hard to lead by consensus in a crisis has stuck with me ever since that article because I think that it is one of the biggest challenges facing the NBA. And Bobby you can give us insight into this in my mind. I'm imagining every front office. Every owner having wildly different needs in wants here in pushing for wildly different things. And that's got to be true on the players side as well. You're right I mean it's interesting because Joe Side the owner of the nets was on a a Stanford Business Conference with some students in any basically said he didn't want to fully Say but you talked about thirty honors. Everyone has a difference of opinion as far as the top eight. WanNa start playing. Well maybe teams Thirteen fifteen see. WanNa get going for focus on the draft. It's that were they're gearing towards so you're right but I do think you know Bob Myers came out yesterday. Guess there they were sent like. Hey we will be good partners here right like we if you tell us. The comeback and play three or four regular season. Games are fifteen regular season game. We will be back. We will be there yet. I I think for the players that listen. There's financial incentive for every player to play as many regular season games as I can to to get their money because whatever games are cancelled the NBA's go to invoke force majeure which basically allows teams to take back about one percent of your salary for each game missed and I've heard discussions among teams of. Should we have a scenario where we just do a play in tournament of seven through twelve and the rest of the teams we tell them to pack it in we tell? Atlanta GOLDEN STATE CLEVELAND. You guys are and we'll share the money that they would have to create some share of revenue to compensate like. I don't imagine that happening and I don't know that Adam Silver's even considering it but I know in front offices when people are bouncing around ideas that's been a conversation. This tolerance of risking to bobby mentioned I think is the other sort of third rail sideline issue of getting players at a point where they are comfortable with the level of risk involved. And it's such an interesting thing for the entire country right is not just. Nba Players. Every time you drive down a highway you are taking a risk and obviously I'm not equating highway deaths with corona virus because highway deaths are not contagious but it is an example of assumed risk in this country. If we just shut down the highway system in this country tens of thousands of lives would be saved. People would never drive more than forty over forty five miles an hour but we have decided over time as a country. There is an acceptable tolerance of risk. And you are trusting. The people driving speeding hurtling toward you. The other way and we saw so tragically Monty Williams a few years ago. His wife died because they're distracted driver driving sixty miles an hour the other direction and killed her and mark. Cuban came out this week and he said players have to decide with corona virus. Who are they trusting with their lives or they trusting the person at the hotel or they trusting? Who Do you trust with your life? That is the question and it is. It's very dramatic for market. Taught that way and it feels very dramatic as we sit here and try to make these decisions from scratch. Nobody told the entire country to decide from scratch in one month okay. How many people do we feel comfortable with dying on a highway this month? No one ever had to make that decision. Just kind of evolved and that's how we have a comfort level with risk. We are being asked to make that decision all at once here with corona virus. And I think that is very difficult for people to do even if they are regularly taking other risks in their daily life. It's hard to unilaterally. Say great were fine with X. Many thousand people buying it should be hard that that that's not a natural thing to want to do and yet there is some element of that equation. Is Adam stressed on the call with the players? There is no zero risk situation here. The only way to zero risk situation is to just shut down each other's vaccine and that's just not something they're looking at right now and and Adam silver talking to the players yesterday. There's going to have to be a lot of cooperation trust. There's GonNa be some some very difficult negotiations that will go on because they've got to collectively bargain almost any of the changes. That would come whether it's going to a one or two site bubble or pushing the start of next season to December regardless of whether they play or not Any number of things have to be agreed upon with the players. And then there's going to be like real financial realities in bobby paint. The picture for people of what Free Agency is going to look like How the salary cap is going to impact. What the not just free agency how. It's going to impact the draft going into next season and and what players can expect to see. I think the the commissioner painted outward. It's basically going to be two years of negotiating. Cba crammed into too much right. I mean that's that's the reality of it in. Its you know so you look at it a lot of ways and I think the big question. What is the salary cap into? What is the luxury tax going to be in the equal? The easy answer would be if we go by the letter of the CBI. The salary cap in luxury tax is going to crash right. It's going to go from a project that one hundred and fifteen fifty million dollar cash to ninety ninety five.

"Where top five coolest person in the world? If you're hanging out with Madonna in the ninety S I just. You can't get any better than that. That's the she's the coolest most interesting person in the world. And maybe that's an exaggeration. But you know what I'm saying like anyone aged Madonna one thousand nine hundred eighty eight. Oh my God you said something interesting an Oh so I'm watching this the two things number one I really. I want to read something about if they had kept it together. Would THEY HAVE BEEN FAVORITES? The next year when. It's the weird lockout year now. Obviously I had forgotten that Michael. Hurt himself in that off season he had a finger injury. Cutting a freaking cigar might have missed most of the ninety nine season. But I do like Michael was thirty. Five Scotty was thirty three. That's about the age where you do start to worry about it but I am big into like. There's a CERNA honor in being champions in and I do I do sort of by the idea. I mean thirty. Three's not ancient back then. It was older than thirty. Three is now. We've given sports science. Their ancient Michael is still the best player in the NBA. I do think there's a certain honor in you. Play it out until you can't win anymore. You you let a champion deserves the chance to lose and I do think. Rest his soul. He's not here to defend himself. I do think Jerry Krause dishonored that a little bit now. Maybe the personality dynamics were already broken to the point that they could not be fixed. Pippen's been bitter for so long fills tired of coaching. He's coach longer than you wanted to. Coach maybe maybe it was just going to break up anyway but I would like to read an analysis of if Jordan's thirty six and pippen's thirty four would. They have been favorites that next year. Against a kind of a Spurs Team. That was old and then had the young superstar in Dunkin and played in eighth seed in the finals. Now not your typical a seat. I I do like obviously you know I think Jerry Krause probably sense this like as a front office executive you are lauded. You can speak to this. You are lauded for thinking ahead and not being the executive that hangs onto oolong. Think of how Danny Age. I'm sorry to bring up. Gets lauded for what he got from you guys in Pearson Garnett who were still really good and yet there were people who thought the Celtics sort of hung on too long to that team to that group and I so I get what Jerry Krause is going for like you. Don't WanNa be the guy that hangs on too long and the way to become the celebrated. Gm is to out think everybody else be ahead of the game. But there's just there's just an honor in plain out until until until you're the team walking off the Court Lake Sore losers. They also had an advantage if they wanted to keep that group together for ninety eight ninety nine the head advantage because it was fifty games right it was basically a sprint. We started lockout was lifted in January. We went from. I think end of January until I think may fifty games For a team that's veteran aging team. Basically that's the perfect scenario right like keep that group together. I think the hard part would have been as far as what you had pippen. Who has was looking for that big long term contracts and he wound up getting it and sign trade going to Houston and eventually to Portland. But I think you had. You had your coo coach was under contract. Harper was under contract. Randy Brown was under contract. You had some of your core guys still there so yeah if you wanted to keep it together. I think you certainly could have. I think when you look at when you're looking to try to break it up and you go back and you read some the Pippen's trade stories is that you know. Crowds was trying to move them to where Boston for. What three and six that year. That wind up turn into Chauncey BILLUPS and Ron Mercer. So he was by the way by the way. If you make that trade and you hit it you're a genius. You're a genius and I think Jerry Krause probably sense that and that time was running out in like if I hit one of these I can become. I can become a team. That's an elite for twenty years which is what the Spurs were trying to accomplish in trading for the differences the Spurs didn't trade a beloved. They didn't Trade Scottie Pippen. They traded George Hill Right. I mean it's like you can't trade Scottie. Pippen I get it. I get worse. Guys coming from Scottie Pippen. Well Yeah I mean. I think where we're Krause's coming from is that he saw like he saw that ninety nine seven nine eight was it right was going to be it. And if you have an opportunity to move in for Sean camp were to try try to trade for Tracy McGrady and maybe keep you know as roster together but I think probably would have went sideways with with Jordan and certainly with Phil Jackson. Not being there. That's the discussion that you have to have internally but he played out you win a championship in ninety seven ninety eight and then basically it's basically self destruction right. I mean all all those guys that were wind up you had Pippen Kerr Judd Buechler Using signed traits nothing ever result. You never got anything back of value from that from that group there show basically it just it just ended on. Its own the other thing I was thinking about. Last night is sort of the stories we tell ourselves. And so the story of the Bull's team is that they lose three times in a row to the Pistons and then Michael Starts Lifting weights and they get tougher and they pushed back. They decide. We're going to be the one that administers pain and Michael. D One of my favorite moments of the documentary last night. Was Michael Telling Horace Grant? Stop whining because when you wind. They know they know they have you. And those the stories that make us love sports right like we have to believe that. That's what happened. Iron Sharpens Iron and the Bulls got tougher and I do think that happened while I was curious to look back and think I also wonder most of the time when there's a transition of power like this it's just at one team got old and a younger team got more experienced and I thought not to be deterred in the punchbowl guy but like. Isn't that what happened? Here like the Bulls entered their primes. Michael was twenty seven horse and Scotty were twenty five. The Pistons exited their primes. Like the toughness stuff. That's cool that makes for good storytelling. That really happened. You know how old Joe Dumars wasn't nineteen ninety one. I don't twenty-seven Isaiah was only twenty nine. Now the other guys were older lamb. Beer was thirty three but like twenty seven and twenty nine is airlifted all on the floor. His career ended I think earlier than most than than than what it would have ended today but the Pistons this was not just a case of Detroit. Getting old like their two best players in robin was not old yet like they were still in their prime. Now there was a case of the Bulls gaining experience and the things that happened to younger teams. But I in my head I was like I wonder if we're all sort of trick ourselves into the story of toughness and this the Pistons like they weren't that old it wasn't like there were an ancient team while on Isaiah when he toured killy's was thirty two right. That was it. I mean that's all I mean. He never played a game after that. I believe in yet I mean Ado mark thing is fascinating basically just like the years of that grinded out you knock you on your ass. Took its toll on this team right. I mean that's that's the that's the reality.

"Eight in terms of their talent level and how they're pieces fit together. They were absolutely loaded like they're not some little engine that could team that got by with toughness. Yeah they were tough as hell. You didn't WanNA play them. They would knock your ass to the ground but they were also awesome and they were worthy. Champions was funny to watch us with my wife last night who doesn't know. Nba History. Like like this. She just thought they were mean like isn't she was like. Isn't that against the rules? What they're doing throwing them to the ground then. They're showing them spraying champagne. No they were just a straight up awesome team. They won the championship two years roll by the way if Isaiah doesn't get hurt in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight and there's not a controversial foul call lamb beer. I believe Garden Kareem at the end of game six in La. They might three peat like they were inches away from a three peat. They were legitimately awesome team and for some reason. Because they're this interregnum team there. No one is sort of these interloper overachievers. No they were just awesome. Well and you know I think when you look at the one thing too is that it wasn't documented last night when when you go back. What's that thirty thirty? S The aguire. Dantley trade right that basically kind of changed the landscape of that that group because it kind of gave everyone different roles and more defined roles. The Amazing Things Act with that group is that the rules never changed right. I I think it would have been easy for the NBA. Commissioner Stern in for Rod Thorn. Who was on there and I worked for for ten years. You know to come in after their first championship and say all right these are. This is what we're going to do now right. Flagrant fouls technicals. We're GONNA upped the anti on everything and basically kind of take. That group added their element. I think it would have been easy for league to come in and do that. There is a segment where it had how much they were find. I think the year they want to champion you know they were only find like thirty. Four hundred thirty four thousand dollars I think for the whole year on like technicals inflators. I mean in this day and age may now would have been millions of dollars and you know down the road yet. Things change but the league allowed them to kind of go about what they were doing. They weren't the only team to do this. Like if you talk to the Pacers teams that put the Bulls really hard at nine hundred ninety eight that one team that took them to seven. You know one of the things that happen. That series was Phil Jackson. Very smartly. Put Scotty Pippin on Mark Jackson. And it was like just shut him down. Just take them out. Pick them up full court. You saw him pick up magic full court in the ninety one finals. The first which the Bulls won Scotty just essentially beat the hell out of those guys up and down the court he would today. He's fouling them three or four times when they're bringing the ball up all of those teams. It wasn't just the Pistons. All of those teams took advantage of the leeway. You got back then to play physical defensive basketball that you just can't do now in Scotty was Scotty was just as good at that as the Pistons guys were. Maybe not in sort of a like. He wouldn't be the guy to shove you after the whistle into the freaking basket stanchion or the first row but like he was a physical physical defender. Why in your I? I think the one thing that's underrated and I think when we learned we as the episode's go is how great of a coach Phil Jackson's right. I think XS and OS. Yes but the ability to manage that group that locker room especially that last year when air balled. Basically all lame. Duck the How to handle different personalities? Certainly man I love it when he got on board and basically showing you try to work right. I mean yeah. That was a great moment but I think how he basically kind of allowed guys to be themselves and how he handled that. I think that's probably one of the more under under the radar out of the I four segments. This is the ability of Phil Jackson. Well as many people were commenting night. Can you imagine in the age of Twitter Instagram? What in the hell would happen if the third best player in all star level player on the team that was the Beatles just took a freaking vacation to Las Vegas for a week. Doing God only knows what with God only knows who it would be twenty four. I don't think he would actually be able to do it because he would be followed around everywhere. Every single thing he did would be a story And Phil gets a lot of credit. I guess for understanding that yet Dennis just need to go get it out of his system and we would play without and then he'd come back and he would be good but that is that today would be it would blow everything up. Not just twitter would blow the whole world up well. I don't even know if that I mean how. How would that team have been able to manage in this day and age with social media everything around compared to where they were ninety eight right? I mean. Could that have survived in this day and age? Basically all guys a coach knew he wasn't going to be back basically half most of the restaurant expiring contracts. You Know I. I don't know maybe maybe they're mentally tough enough that they could have done it. You know in twenty twenty but the be able to go through that season as your second best player missing the first game I what. Thirty eight games or forty four gained because he had surgery before training camp because he was basically pissed off data because of his contract situation in Dennis leaving in the middle of the year to the take forty eight hour hiatus in basically Michael basically carrying the load that roster had was filled with role players. Right I mean you look at that roster from Harper her Randy Brown Cuckoo. Certainly a good player but most of that is you know is is a.

"Or member. Where ever you need to go be safe. The people marathon are behind you all the way. Let's talk about the bad boys a little bit. Because obviously the the flash bulb moment of last night's episode is Michael Reacting to the Isaiah comments. And saying you're never gives me. He wasn't a which was just did the most fun thing about this. So has has been Michael has been in the limelight more than any other athlete in my lifetime for essentially my entire conscious life as a sports fan. I don't remember seeing this sort of I'm trying to think of like like funny. And you see the flashes across his eyes when he's getting really excited to talk about something you see his eyes flash and the WIT and the quick wit and the lightning sharp tongue and not just the swear words but just the sharpness with which he's analyzing the game and all this we just. He just didn't give that part of himself to US as consumers growing up he. Maybe I'm sure you know the people who got to know him well Ahmad Rashad and Mike Wilbon coming on the PODCAST SAYING. Oh those people have seen that. I haven't seen much of it. It's been awesome to see that. Well I think the one seen kind of some that all right when they had gone through the part where the Pistons walked off the core in game four without shaking hands. I can't stay but then you had the Isaiah segment and then you gave Michael. I think IPAD right the kind of watch when he was going to say and I think that some initial his eyes light up right and he kinda new like what. Isaiah was going to say. All right never. I've never seen Michael's face look like that before. It's a different like I wanNA freeze it and look at it because I don't recall ever seeing that side of him. Well Yeah and he. He knew what he was going to say and he basically called donning right. I mean that's what that's what he and that's what that's the personality that we never saw. When we watch this team in the nineties he was just basically know. I'm going to rip your heart out. I'm GonNa win and nothing. Basically off the core. We never saw that. And that's that's the beauty of these. These documents that were that were a able to this. Here's my lukewarm. Take on the Pistons. Walking off the court. I thought it was cool at the time and I still think it's Kinda cool because I was a sore loser as a kid. I'm still kind of a sore. I think like most people are sore losers and I thought I remember thinking there was a certain prideful to it like they're not just sore losers there too proud to acknowledge that anyone has beaten them. Let alone this team. That they have manhandled for three straight years. I saw a certain prideful. Nissen it I liked it at the time. I thought it was cool. Another father son generation gap. Because my father has hell did not think it was cool. I thought it was cool and looking back on it now. I still don't care like I can't summon any morality rage about it. I just I can't get I don't care that they didn't shake hands. I still think it's kind of cool. That's my take bobby. Well Yeah I mean I think I mean you go back in history here and if you watch the series before and then you watch that I mean the Chicago. Manhandled them right for four hours swept them. I think that I think Zion lamb beer. Net Group knew. This was the end right. I think the beauty of those act is that how they had to walk across their. You know in front of them. Bright it wasn't like they'd debut lined it in you know yet you leave the court right behind yet but basically walked across and I think where I think where the criticism a little bit too that you know you see. The shot up is kind of ducking behind and beer. I think people are saying well was he ducking was he just kind of hiding or or is that how it was. But I didn't have an issue with you know back then. I don't have an issue with it right now. As far as kind of what they were able to do could they have handed basically handing the mantle overwrite Kinda now? We are giving you the torch to lead things on as far as we did for three years. Now it's your turn. Maybe you could`ve. You could've done that but I had no I had no issue with it at all while also is fitting for their team right because their whole vibe was we and I think they've owned this viable little too much but we're the team. Nobody wants where the team nobody wants to win. You heard John Salley. Lamba didn't want us to win all these teams like the NBA was against Xabi. Like everyone was against us. No that's not really true but I get what you're saying And we played a style that everyone thought was ugly and everyone hated us and we didn't care we don't care what anyone thinks. We own that and walking off the court was the same thing. We don't care what anyone thinks in. Jemele hill was tweeting about this last night and I want her to come to talk about it. That mentality of were the ugly Stepchild stylistically and market wise and lack of a Isaiah. Thomas was a signature star but he was not Michael Air Magic and we play style. No one likes and we're gritty and we're nasty. That was Detroit right and she will talk about that. That was the city of Detroit and the and the and the the meld between that team and that style in that city was really really special and still is really really special and people in Detroit. God bless them. They will never say a bad thing about that team. They are proud of how that team conducted itself. They are proud that they walked off the floor. And I think that's cool. I will say this though Isaiah made a Isaiah tried to draw an equivalence between the Pistons. Walking off the floor in ninety one and the Celtics walking off the floor in In Eighty eight. And it's not it's not the same. It's not like if you I went back and watch game six of the eighty eight conference finals. Here's what happens. The Celtics are about to lose. There's a random foul with three seconds. Left Sends Sends Adrian Dantley to the line. Everyone is already celebrating. By that point. There are fans on the floor. Fans are on the court camera photographers from all over. The court are storming the court. They're everywhere they're not everywhere in the middle of the court but some of them are actually and so. There's this vibe vibe of like it's now chaos a little bit and the game is over and that's when the Celtics start walking the floor and you even have the public address announcer in Detroit saying ladies and gentlemen. The game is not over. Please return to your seats. That game is not over. You have billy Cunningham. Who's the color commentator saying? The players might be leaving for their own safety because of this scene and so this was the road team in a home arena. That was going crazy and starting to storm the floor in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight in in in the year. We're talking about when the Pistons Walk Off Ninety One. It's a road team. That's winning a subdued home crowd and the only people creeping onto the floor. Our photographers on the bull sideline trying to get a good shot of Jordan as they get to the finals trying to snap that moment. So it's not it's not the same situation and Isaiah. Frankly is wrong to draw a parallel between all you gotTa do is watch the tape. It's not the same. And so this idea. That bird walked off the floor and was forgiven for it and Isaiah lamb beer and all them walked off the floor and warrant is not. It's apples to oranges while you're and I think you know we're thirty. Years passed from when this happened. And you know there's no turning back now right it's like you're basically you're going to go down and in a blaze of fire and you're going to You're going to own this. As far as he has owned it right I mean like basically is he. He went back and used the Boston. Reverend what I had never heard before basically saying this is what everyone did in the past right. This is what Boston did. This is what we did and I think I think might Ladda Great. You know example. When he says we'll know we lost to these guys in those two years rose three years like I stayed on the core like I shook everyone's hand I didn't just walk off the court in and beeline and it's funny that I got to know Rick Mahorn when he was in New Jersey for I think he was there for a year. I think it was my first year. Rick was on that first year team of the bad boys and then again they lost them in the expansion draft to Minnesota and so he wasn't part of those two or three years and I I love talking about history and I got to talk to rick about it though. Is that the first Badboy team here and he would say that. There is such an edge to this group right. It was basically take that it take prisoners with asking questions and he said like when when they lost him to Minnesota and he wasn't there like they lost a little bit of that. That edge right. I mean yes you still had sally in Rodman and lamb beer and stuff like that but it was a little bit of a different group and it was a little bit. I think you lost a little bit of some some leadership. What things have stayed the same? Rick was there. Maybe they would walk. Probably would have. But I think it's. It's probably two different groups there. I actually think the Pistons have well first of all and there was also the thing where the the real Larry Bird. Handshake thing was not leaving the floor in game six is I talked about. That was chaotic. There was a made if you go back and read the clips of Larry refusing to shake lamb beers. Hand at tip off of those games. And you WANNA play that card. If you're a pistons fan that's fine. My responses lamb. Beer played his entire career and fall with everybody. And if you play like an entire career people aren't GonNa WanNa shake your hand you you you reap what you sow and and by the way as I loved Bill Lambert I loved him and I think the Pistons have leaned so far into this word. The little engine that could team that made up for you. Know maybe a lack of talent with grit and toughness. I think they've done themselves a disservice. That team was awesome and they were loaded like bill. Laimbeer average like seventeen and twelve. Multiple Times was automatic from eighteen to twenty feet. Rodman is a two time defensive player of the year in two time All Star. Isaiah is one of the only players. Beat Larry beat magic. He beat Michael. He's a stud. Joe Dumars Hall of fame. Sally was awesome. Mahorn was legitimately good. Vinnie Johnson was one of the great bench players in the League. James Edwards in sort of edition. One or two of the bad boys was an elite post. Player you go from Dantley to Aguire like that team. Top to bottom was absolutely loaded. Could go toe to toe like yesterday. Number Two guy is in like whoever you qualify as whether it's Dumars are Rodman or Lambert who everyone call it. Their number two guy is not koby. It's not Mikhail. It's not you know Kareem or worthy whatever whatever you want to say..

"The welcome to the low post podcasts. On a post last dance. Monday morning where I am back in the basement recording studio and I'm thrilled to be joined by ESPN insider and longtime New Jersey Nets almost New Jersey swamp dragons in Brooklyn. That's front office executive. Mr Bobby marks our you. Jack How are you? I'm good man. I enjoyed I enjoyed episodes three and four Not as much as episodes wanted to but I am a bad boys acolyte and I'm very excited to talk about the bad boys but I wanna I wanNA give you the tee off spot because you wrote a little bit about You guys faced you guys. The New Jersey Nets faced the last dance bowls in the first round of the playoffs. I remember literally nothing from the series Literally Zero. Because you have to understand. This is like it's the first rounders ability games to watch. I'm twenty years old like I even twenty year old nerd me had better things to do than watch. Michael Jordan kicked out of the sorry ass New Jersey Nets in three games. But one of the Games was close. But you alluded to this in your in your little postscript on on episode three and four you guys had Jack Haley on the nets in that year and you gave Jack Helius Pacific Job for the series against the Bulls. Please explain for. Yeah we are. Jack's job was to take Dennis Rodman out for game. One of the first round and back then gain the playoffs. Start on Friday They didn't start on Saturday. The regular season ended on a on a Sunday and we got in the last day of the year. We beat the Washington bullets. Ironically we're supposed to play at Miami in the first round but we'd lost three games in a row and it had win our last game but I got no Jack in those two years. We signed seven contracts for ten days in three season contracts waved a couple times and we signed Jack Ten days before the regular season. Not Knowing. We're gonNA play the Bulls. We're GONNA probably play the Bulls or the heat. And I remember when Jack's relationship with Dennis and I wrote about it is that you know they were with each other in San Antonio for those two years. He was on that ninety five ninety. Sixteen in that one. You know the I guess the first championship after three right between that hiatus and he had a great relationship with with Denison. He always would say like he'd hated. Hated the word baby right. That was always what people called him that he was Dennis's babysitter. And I remember sitting in the breakfast room before game one on Friday morning and Jack Walking in and basically saying sat down and said I did my job so you don't know what did you do like what did you do this man. Is he not going to show up as Dennis? Not going to show up and if you go back and watch game one of that first round. Chicago wins by three in overtime. Dennis was terrible. I mean forty minutes Baldo no points eight rebounds and was thoroughly outplayed by Jason Williams. Chris Gatling Gatling basically stayed on the perimeter and just jacked up shots and made I mean critics say jacked up threes but he really jagged up nineteen dollars. That's a lot of mid range and in Jack basically kind of took Dennis out of his his element in. They wound up winning. They won the series in in three. But yeah I mean so I kind of wrote about it. I didn't really throw the Jack taking out night before part in that In my little and peace but I think the interesting things that would would Jack Haley is. That hasn't been talked about yet. So I got to know him during those years in New Jersey in an afterwards in your jacqueline a huge role in basically get getting Dennis to play in game six of the series against San Antonio Seattle. Yeah dentist did not want to play at all. I think they lost two games in a row and he wanted to quit and go back home and that was basically it and Jack had to talk him into playing that game and he I think George Carlin quotas without Rodman. Chicago probably won that game. Eleven points nineteen rebounds. He was like a monster so yes. I wrote a little bit about Jack on his relationship with Dennis. Taking him out for game one of MAC first round and basically kind of like things like that don't exist now right like things like what we've seen we see on TV. Don't exist Dennis So so I I loved Dennis Rodman and I even loved San Antonio Dennis Rodman who was a complete train wreck and the spurs hated him and Popovich didn't just throw him under the bus. Popovich like tied into the road and drove the bus over him after the Spurs traded him. They didn't like him that much. I had in my room at home. I had. I had posters but I also would cut things out of sports illustrated make collages and stuff and one of the centerpieces was one of those Rodman rebounds where he's got the ball above his head. His legs were splayed out in opposite directions like he's trying to kick people on either side of him in San Antonio and it was actually one of those things where Rodman was a very obviously polarizing figure but he was a generation gap polarizing figure like. My Dad was appalled by Dennis Rodman. He was appalled that his son liked Denis Rodman and I just sort of like look I don't I'm nineteen eighteen. Whatever like I don't have I'm not thinking about like locker room and chemistry and what a pain in the acid is to deal with Dennis Rodman. I just saw an icon. Oh class and a rebel and someone who is cool and someone who was like nobody else in the NBA. And I loved Rodman and I still love Rodman. And when you talk to the Bulls guys as I did. I've talked to a lot of the old bulls guys for various stories. That are out and coming out. Rodman in this comes across Rodman was very shy and soft spoken and soulful and and It's tempting to reduce him to sort of a Ha he was in Vegas. And Carmen Electra. And Blah Blah. But like he has a lot of problems. You still has a lot of problems. But he was very shy. And and and some of the Bulls guys who would go out to dinner. A lot would tell me Dennis would some would sometimes just sorta come up to one of us like Kerr Longley or Bush ler and just kind of say. Hey guys can you mind if I you modify join you tonight? Like is it. Okay if I come in early dude of course and then Dennis would be like well now. I got someone else going on after dinner. You Guys WanNa come with me. And sometime most of the time they would say no because they knew what was going to happen. Sometimes they would say yes. And Judd Bush. Ler told me like if you said Yes to Dennis. You had no freaking idea. What the next like six hours of your life. All of a sudden like billy corgan is over there and Eddie Vedder is over there and I'm like Jeb Bush ler tenth man on the Bulls just being like. Yeah I'm with Eddie Vedder. Dennis was one of a kind and I I loved him and I still love him and he's one of my all time favorite players well. It's almost like hockey hockey mentality right. Like these guys live a different life off the off the rank and I remember this past June right after the draft. When I was in New York I think I do get opera. One of the shows there in coming down that elevator in Dennis was there. Identify basically hiding out because pop Outside and I don't get star struck Zach by athletes Around him I was starstruck. I said that you know you see him. He's got all his you know he's got the hat on and he still he looked like he was on TV. But in the amazing thing. And we'll talk about. Is that the transition right from Detroit San Antonio Chicago. How much he was hated. You Go back and watch that thirty for thirty on that Detroit team. I mean like like those in came out last night but those those teams hated each other. Right I mean there was still like a distaste renewal. That's the number one argument. And I I've gone back and forth and my thinking changes all the time number one argument against just put the sixteen best teams in the playoffs and seat on one to sixteen regardless of conference is that you will not get. Detroit and Chicago playing each other for years in a row. It just won't happen and like you. Are you go back and watch these things? That is awesome. I mean these two teams Like whatever the rivalry is pacers-knicks heat knicks. Bulls that whatever it is. It's like when you face each other in the playoffs. Two three four. I mean four times in a row the Pistons and the Bulls played each other in the playoffs. That's just awesome like I. It's a little bit of bummer. That you have to wait. Eighty two long games to get there and maybe a couple of playoff rounds but that is you just can't duplicate in any other way the animosity and some respect. Although I don't think there's a lot of respect in this case you just can't duplicate that one in the finding Jews when you watch last night and it's like I didn't even realize teams played each other in conference or division six times right when they did the piece on Cleveland and basically might look like we lost these guys six six times we were like. Oh and six against them. Nobody gave us Nobody gave us a chance. And I think that's kind of where that that is. Hase kind of stand for were. You weren't playing New York or New Jersey or even Boston two times right. You're like you play these teams young six times. Then you had to face them in the playoffs for another six or seven games. I mean that that kind of lingers that kind of carries over to the next season now more than ever. We have to look out for each other and count on each other marathon..

"Here with bobby marks. Espn'S NBA front office insider. Bobby how are you? I'm good how you doing good you. You sound better than about two hours ago when I when I talked you. Where were you in in in in what happened? Let's get out of the way at the very top here. Yeah so the quick story is that we have a rescue dog. Who's about we've had her for about two two months and a? She's she's been recovering from an illness so she's on prednisone. I was on my way back from the vet to get a check up and stopped to get her some food and left her in a car with the car running and I came back and she had urinated all over the front seats. So that's what I that's what I welcome. That's what happened when I opened the door and a little bit of a cleanup. But Hey what's going on in the world right now? It's a it's minute right. Yeah yeah absolutely absolutely well we we have something here. Bobby. That is rare Certainly over the last few weeks and maybe even for the next few weeks we have some news that is not built around the NBA. Shut down or the hiatus or when the League might come back or even Salaries and and possible force majeure all those issues that we've been talking about. We have actually a team. Organization story The Bulls have started their front office. Search for a new a new top executive whether that titles going to be President or executive vice president They've let John Paxson. Gar Forman both know of their plans to start the search now. It appears paxon world. Stay in some kind of advisory role. He's been the team's general manager and executive VP since two thousand and three replaced Jerry crops which is pretty remarkable run and certainly connects back to a different era and then Gar Forman I'm told and and reported that they'll be some more conversations with the organization about maybe some kind of a role going forward in some capacity but the Bulls are going to start interviewing candidates. They're going to reach out and ask for permission on Arturas Commissibus in Denver. The general manager. Tim Kabuli WHO'S THE PRESIDENT IN DENVER? Josh tractor their owner slash governor and then another executive that the Bulls on pulled would like to speak to Bobbi Webster. Who'S THE GM TORONTO? Where they won the championship last year. Works under Messiah Jerry. And they'll talk to some others But what do you think? First Bobby about the timing of it doing it now to get that search underway during the hiatus instead of waiting till the formal end of the season And then what do think of that job while I I answer the second question I I think the Chicago job is probably one of the even though the team has been in a lottery of most recently is is still one of the more premier jobs In the League here based on certainly the history of the bowls big city big market There is some type of foundation there Already I think we'll probably talk about that a little bit more there but So so yeah I think certainly appeal there when it comes to You know when it comes to the job as far as the timeline as far as you know where where we are right now. Hey we're all home right to get your house in order as far as if you're going to start the higher or the interview process teams got all the time in the world right now to go in and do that because eventually woes you know there's going to be an off season here all right we don't know when it's going to be If it's in August or September or July who knows when it's going to base. I think to be prepared is is the right thing to do yet. I think you look at this timeframe. Now this hiatus to have somebody in place over the next several weeks and let him start building out his front office how he would do that. It allows you to if the season does hypothetically resume in June. And you'RE GONNA have a couple of weeks of training camp and then a team much ICAGO is just gonNA play a few games. And then their season would be over. It gives you a chance to evaluate players. It's not a full evaluation. You'RE NOT GONNA make listen if you're interested in the job. You've already studied the roster. You Probably Watch film on the guys. You're going to evaluate the coach to make a decision on him on the coaching staff. And so it does give you a window to do that once the season if the season resumes and then once that once you are team season ends everyone else was onto the playoffs. Then you're moving quickly into preparing for the draft in free agency which may not be till if we if we do. Have the season resume. We probably don't have a draft of free agency till September until the season's over. But what if you wait on this and all of a sudden we get to June first or June fifth June ten. And there's an environment where the season can't resume where they say we're going to have to. We're not close enough to being able to return to work in the NBA. We're out of time. We've gotta look canceling the season. Well now all of a sudden you've got the draft on June twenty fifth. You Got Free Agency on June thirtieth those very well probably than just stay intact and so you can't you don't want to start your search dance. I think it makes a lot of sense in any scenario that you get it done now especially in a circumstance like Chicago where you know Paxon Gar Forman new bid. They were aware of what was coming. And so I think you do this search now. You can't interview people in Person. You're going to have to do this at least the first round of it anyway on Skype Zoom or wherever you are that's going to make it a little different but there there are the last few years. There's been plenty of front office interviews. That have been done first. Rounds of interviews done on Skype or done electronically it isn't I don't think it's the best way to do it but I think it's number one. It's what's available right now and you'll and you'll make do with well. Yeah I mean it's not ideal but I mean the times we're living in right now or not so you basically have to adjust to and I think going about in putting a front office together right now instead of waiting until June or even July. You know you you. You eliminate the mad scramble and you know when you when you call. Ron talked teams right now during this everybody's still work right need you're either. You're going through your draft process. You're you're breaking down film your evaluating players during the week you're having weekly conference calls with with your scouts. I think if you look at Chicago right now if the season ended of course whatever happens with the lottery you know you got a top ten. Pick that sitting at seven. You've got a second round. Pick that you choir from Memphis so you can get a head. Start on that you go through the roster evaluation of this Bowls team instead of waiting until mid June or early July. You have a two month head. Start there and there's a lot of different questions that you are going to need to answer. Certainly one of them will be what you do with you. Know with your head coach. But you have. You've got some key free agents. Certainly Chris done You've got the Lauri Markkanen rookie extension coming up here. auto porter's got a player option. And I think you think Outta quarter might pick that up. I would say I would say what is your forty one player at a player option. Forty for this year. I think those letters are already drawn up. Twenty twenty five million dollars was about twenty five million dollars. He's about twenty eight in play half a dozen games this year. I'd be a no brainer. I think I think Outta quarter. Yeah we'll pick that up and I think the and of course the big thing is going to be is that you know. It's it's funny when we talk about Exactly that You know he feels like yesterday when he had signed that offer sheet Sacramento and the Bulls eventually match. But hey going into next year. He's got two years left on his contract so he's He's extension eligible a this off season here but as you know when you get to those two year window and two years left and you haven't won that many games then it gets put a little more pressure on that front office. The people you've talked to in the League still think Chicago is an elite job. It's a plum job. You have you know ownership there. Michael Reinsdorf Jerry. Reinsdorf SON is the president and really operates the organization by all accounts he wants to let basketball people run. Basketball operations. That's not the case with ownership everywhere and that makes a job more appealing to candidates that they know they can go when nobody has full autonomy. You know very few executive really truly have full autonomy but a place where I think the belief is they're gonNa let you make the decisions in higher and make deals and decisions drafted trade and do all the things that a president slash. Gm wants feels like he needs to do so that. That certainly makes job more appealing. It's Chicago it's one of the greatest cities in the world is an incredible basketball town. You know the history there it resonates all over world. The bowl still do because of Michael Jordan still makes a place that resonates with players. And so you need to run it. Well you need to draft while you need to build an infrastructure and then have a year where your cap space and go out and try to get involved with the big free agents and so The Bulls get out in this marketplace. Right now at the beginning they get to really have first crack at. Who's out there I think our tourists are Garner sufficient. Denver is someone to watch closely on this job. He's has the GM title Denver. He was a candidate a couple years ago to run the box and during that search process Denver elevated him to the GM title. Philly wanted to talk to him before they hired out brand declined that interview And so he's been a name that Thank you interviewed in Brooklyn a few years ago when he was an assistant. Gm for the job eventually went to Sean marks and so I think he's going to be somebody who You know they're gonNA take a close look at We also reported of course Bobbi Webster Toronto. Who's extremely well? Who's very accomplished as was part of their championship building a championship team there. And so Whoever comes in there I think a new send bobby? There's some pieces Markkanen when del Carter Kobe. White Court and of course Zach Levine. This isn't a team. I think people look at the record in.
CAVALIERS ACQUIRE TWO-TIME NBA ALL-STAR ANDRE DRUMMOND
"I think one of the themes of it's an obvious one. But between what they got a Cappella and the whole bunch of nothing. That Detroit got Andre Drummond. I think we've reached a point where the League league is valuing centers that's solely that I don I'm just did I make sense so lonely. I don't know without the they don't know. One is placing a lot of value on centers. And if the rockets looked Capella will look. We don't think our current team is at its best with Capelle on the floor. Mike is not gonNA play him. Let's turn them into someone who's GonNa play for for us that makes conceptual sense to me. There just wasn't I mean Boston. Look how easily these teams got. Andre Drummond Cleveland got under Donald for literally. Bring Jon Hinson Brandon Knight in the a second round pick nuts and nothing. Well I mean I mean in the second round pick is I think it's the warriors second in two thousand twenty two or twenty three and that's going to be probably a pretty decent so Yeah Yeah I think that's true But yeah drums a fascinating case because like what was the last time I'm a guy and all this year all star but on an expiring contract got US second round in Cap Filler. Detroit's GonNa get hammered for this. Yeah hammered but you know what didn't want on their team. Well that's the thing like. They got nervous that we started to see this market shrinking right. The market of Memphis didn't can have cap cap. Space went out the window. Atlanta doesn't need a center New York's got new owners management. There I mean we don't know if Andre Drummond drumming is Leeann Rose Guy You know that. I don't think that's going to be your first big signing go in there and like give him four years one hundred fifty million dollars in New York. The Knicks fans just just vomited. As you're saying that they just vomited So if you're Detroit you know what happens if he if he ops in then and you've got a you got him for the year. Maybe trying to flip him in another deal. So you kind of cut your Bait you get a second round pick You've got thirty five thirty six million million dollars in In Room to go out and get a starting point. Guard is Fred Vanfleet Dwayne Casey favor. And then you kind of patch up your rescue roster stor or you just wait and just kind of I mean I think the reality is that like Detroit is like like full rebuild. This and the canard rumors that they were willing to trade canard for a good draft. Pick not a crappy traffic. That's why they didn't get the deal done. They're probably haggling with Phoenix over as well as reported over how heavily protected or lightly that pick is going to be but but it does signal like. If you don't think Luke Kennard is a cinch to be part of your next Detroit Pistons CNN. He's what twenty two twenty three. Yeah his third year in the League and you think whoever you get you pick with this two thousand twenty draft pick like your old ways away

"Both guys right. Besides Russell get into the playoffs last year where they have to playoff appearances to show between in both of them combined. So it's not like they've been programs that have really good structure here so I would probably bet bet on wiggins which is stretch before I bet on on on on Russell right now I think this deal has a chance to fail for For everybody I just I I think Golden State is getting beat up for it and I don't think there's I think they're calculus was okay now. Oh I guess you could argue for Minnesota's percents of a can't fail if the only care about is Karl Anthony towns being happy and keeping Karl Anthony towns right. That's right I mean if this says if you're haggling over pick protection in you have an opportunity to get the ngelo Russell in placate Karl Anthony towns. Sometimes you do. What's best for your franchise player but this could come back and this could come back and haunt them? I mean it towns and Russell running a pick and roll is going to be powerful. The NGELO Russell is a good pool of three point shooter. He's a good passer playing with the big man who can take a lot of the load for him. He didn't have that in Brooklyn Brooklyn. You just had a roller right. That's going to be healthy for him. I think it will steer his offense to an optimal point of efficiency so offensively I think they have a chance to be good but then you look at their supporting cast lake. I mean it's it's who's left James Johnson just came in Covington's gone culver I think has a chance layman layman. WHO's been injured? Most of the year has a chance. Kogi is a good defensive player who has not proven he can shoot. Bates job is gone. Now's read I mean this is what happens when you miss on the draft for ten straight years. There's just nothing there other than those two guys and and and colder. I think we'll be all right. Yeah you start spin wheels right. You Miss Ana draft after you start trading for players I mean you've got Beasley. Inherent Gomez to or basically a restricted free. Seems like an APP for it is the League Beasley will help third down. I actually think it's Ironic Minnesota. I think took advantage of Houston being obsessed with one player Robert Covington and got got a lot of stuff for him to pick one of which they flip for the Denver guys And they were victimized might be a little strong but the warriors got everything they were going to get. Because has of Minnesota's obsession with one particular player Diangelo Russel. No you're right I mean Then they got two guys from Atlanta or nothing Allen Crab and Evan Turner so I I mean it's a mixed bag of Of guys on that. And you're you know you know let's face it mean Minnesota's not a destination so you better hit on these draft picks and it's been it's a mixed bag pelton gave it a minus for Minnesota and a C. for the warriors I kinda just feel like it's like a c Fisk for everyone I am to Dec- wiggins and Minnesota are in Golden State. Because this idea that they're just to say that they're the place you go to be redeemed and save like. I don't know where that came from really like. Maybe he'll do fine there but I don't know that they can teach him to feel the game at a more sophisticated hit a level. Maybe they can get him to defend harder. The interesting thing is he is going to a place that has welcomed open mid-range Jumpers which he has been dissuaded from taking this year. And it sounds like it's a it's a cool like analytic sing like we talk Andrew wiggins not to shoot long twos like. It hasn't really helped him that much. So it'll be interesting to see what golden say they does with his shot selection. Wow I think I think for you know last. What are we in two months left here? We've got thirty games. It's almost going to be. I don't want to see an an open audition when you're married to a guy who has three years ninety million dollars plus But it's GonNa be interesting because you'll get curry back right. You'll get him back. Probably by March I would think and and you've got dream on So it's basically it's going to be your feeling out process. I think the interesting thing too is like we kind of probably for no daily use you got six roster spots go out and fill right. I mean it's it's to go out and I can you go out and get guys like how Miami's been able to do it right right. The Kendrick nuns at Dunkin Robinson's. Can you go into the into the dive into the G. League and find these type of players because those guys are GonNa probably probably GonNa need them next year here because let's face it you're payrolls one hundred and fifty million one hundred and fifty five million. They got a couple of seconds I think for their Alec Burks Glen Robinson the third three three seconds. That's the weren't getting any better for those guys. So you're right. There team has been up ended. I mean they don't really have hardly the team that they started off the season with let alone the injuries to Steph and clay and losing K. D.. And all of that. I don't I mean this is one of those ones where it's like like it's GonNa take a while for me to just get accustomed to what in the hell is going on here on all of these teams but I don't. I'm just a little lower on on Russell I think than most people and I just don't buy into the idea that he's a star. I don't buy that. The Minnesota has hit a home. Run here I I don't and Golden State has made a colossal mistake. I just I don't see it that way and in a lot of it will depend on that pick but I think golden state looked around and said look we could wait and not take back an Albatross and maybe that's maybe that's all that matters. Is that if wiggins busts they're stuck and that's a severe downside you know we'll see if you bus or not but they got a really good quality pick and. I don't think there was any other way for them to do that. I think if if you wait to. Let's say you didn't do anything this off season you wait and you get it clay and step back and you got Russell and you're like wait a minute. This doesn't work right. I mean this and then you're then you're you're not getting back what you're able to get in this INNIS MINNESOTA Silverdale. What a day? What a day Minnesota active can't you can't sit there active there? WHO's the name in that twelve player deal for you? There's always one guy I got it. Who's WHO's your guy jarred vehicle? ooh That's not my guy. Tell me why. Tell me I tell you what And he came into the League at broken foot Kind of a redshirt year Just watching them in G. League he's been a lot of he's been and it's been a local in the G. League And being out in Vegas watching the G. League showcase it's like who is this guy right I get it it's not NBA competition stuff. But I think he's that one guy that can really mold into. I don't want to say like Jeremy Grant type player But he's got he's got really good size he's athletic. He's young That's the guy like I want. I didn't I was like I hope. He's not just throw in here here and I don't think he is. A Minnesota likes him Denver Likes K.. Debates the up so they kind of figuring it's swap I swat but that's kind of my out of that is out of the twelve guys and it's funny Zach it's It's twelve guys but like how many impact guys out of that deal like. It's the kind of deal where it happens. All Oh my tweets at the names. Yeah you get to like yes Baz Napier and my guys based Yup. That's that's the guy that I I'm looking at is maybe in three years. How Denver get him again? He's not bad he's big. He can really cut. He's he's a good cutter. He's a good rebounder. When he goes to the basket he can defend a lot of positions if if he can knock down enough open threes? He's a Nice Small Mall Ball for switchable bench. Guy If he can't then he's just not much but he's I think thirty three percent from deep this year. They've let him they've given him a green greenlighted Minnesota his interest in that green light Wayne's and waxes but he's the one I'm keeping my on. Well let's talk about that trade the rockets to my knowledge unless you count Bruno Koboko who is now still two years away from being two years away we thought he turned a corner last year and we had moments where he has moments where he looks like a legit NBA player and then he has moments where he's just sort of flying lying around and you're like what just oh the ball sits beside the backboard and everyone fell down like bowling pins like what's going on here They did not yet pick up a center. That doesn't doesn't mean that they're not going to they appear to be going all in on Super Duper duper small. What are your thoughts Mr Marks? Well aw couple thoughts here. One Darrell. Morin is never content with his roster. That's my I feel like he's I feel like it's like shaking up the system every every week. If you'RE GONNA go go go to. Houston you'd better rent man. Unless you're harder Westbrook I I mean. That's that's the reality in God forsake of Eric Gordon didn't have a trade restriction on his contract he you know who knows if his name would have been dangled upon here as far as there he is not shot at well known a while. No no my thought is that I like Robert. COVINGTON has got a great contract. I'm little nervous. I bet his knee because he missed you. Know Forty five games last year. I think that's a little bit of a thing to watch going forward This is going to be a tr- I mean it's it's a trial trial and error as far as this right the small work. I mean that's going to be the big question here because you're probably GonNa have played Tucker at the five or you play a Covington at the five and it gives you a different. I mean that's that's what we're going to see both of them. Were looking at and you know. I know there's advantages on the offense. Aside died and you're dealing with mixed mash mismatch is but I mean you look at the Western Conference right. I mean you get you right now. It's Utah Houston first round. Do you get go bear. Yokich kokage AD. So that is going to be You know that's GonNa be the challenge for for the rockets inner depth debt the bigs. I mean it's it's Tyson Chandler him and Isaiah Hartenstein right. Hartenstein had little stretch. Put Him ahead of Chandler on the depth chart. I think this is. I think this is really interesting using. I don't think it's Super Small Ball as much as darryl just once but the five best players he can play and with Russia. Change Change Trading. Chris Paul for Russell Westbrook changed the entire fabric of their team in so many ways one of which is there a place a great shooter with a terrible one and I just think Darryl Darrelle doesn't think they can win with too bad shooters on the floor at the same time and so if they could've found a stretch five who could play a defense. I think they would have been fine. Even though that's not small ball. I just think this is Covington. Could shoot and defend in. This is their best shot at trying. Ryan destroy like lightning in a bottle here and not try to beat the Lakers and the nuggets and the clippers on their terms but to create a new kind of terms of engagement engagement that those teams may have to adjust to the problem. Is they're fifteenth and defense in Twenty second defensive rebounding. I just don't see them defending well enough to win in the playoffs at that against those kinds of teams. I just don't see A. They can switch. They could junk it up with double teams and you. You know it's true like teams are going to try to get I think. DALLAS DENVER LAKERS CLIPPERS. I think are all in the top seven and offensive rebounding rebounding in the NBA. And you can tell me like when they go to the boards and they don't get it were running and we're running like how we're GonNa have shooters are well. That's cool. I just I don't see enough enough of defensive upside here while especially ploughs interesting slows down a little bit right. I mean I could see a lot of possessions when that Clock Fourteen Multiple Times. I mean that's the reality and when you have the smaller When you have a smaller lineup but yeah I mean I think he's just going back to like how many? How many more options do they have to kind of have shakeup the roster right I mean basically Capello was your big your big trae chip and you gotta I and Yeah and you gotta you gotta I and.
Sources: Lakers reach deal for Pelicans' Davis
"Yesterday on sports air. Here's Adrian wards now ski breaking down. The trade of Anthony Davis to the Lakers. This is a monster. Paul for the New Orleans pelicans to get to starters. Lonzo ball. Brandon Ingram an upstanding young player. Josh heart three, first round picks including the number four overall pick and Thursdays draft which allows the world not only draft Zion Williamson, at one, but number four, get another potential. Very good young player. But for the Lakers. They paid a steep price to get the player they had to get. They were able to keep Kyle Kuzma they had to get Anthony Davis. They weren't at the top of any big free agents lips. But it certainly changes the dynamic of that lake organization. What's next for the Lakers Agent Orange now on sportscenter who could they target in free agency. They'll get out into free agency this later this month, June, thirtieth and see if they can get involved with one of the big players on the market. Go Kemba Walker from Charlotte. They could certainly plug him in point guard if he doesn't resign with the Hornets he's a player that will be available teams like Dallas, New York have had interest in him. And you know there's a lot of teams in the marketplace looking for point guards this summer. You know, Jimmy Butler is another player if they are unable to come to terms on a new deal in Philadelphia. I think there would be some mutual interest soon as, as rewards announcing on sportscenter the Lakers. They get Anthony Davis a couple of weeks ago. It looked like they were in complete disarray with magic. Johnson. Rob Pelinka and everything going on there. Everything has now corrected itself with one major trade. The Lakers always find a way and tweeting just now for now expectation is Anthony Davis. Trade will be completed on July sixth league. Sources tell Bobby marks me assuming Davis. Declines to void four million dollar trade bonus this leaves the Lakers with twenty three point seven million in space. There is a chance that could be amended to July thirtieth, but it's still the sixth for now. Okay. So if it's six then the Lakers won't have the money to go out and get a MAC, Scott. They only have twenty three point seven. Look, if I'm over the key, here is that if they were able to wait for this deal to the thirtieth, July, thirtieth, then the Lakers would have that cap space. Go out and get Kemba Walker. Jimmy Butler someone else who wants max money. Yeah. Now, the question to me, and I love conspiracy theories, and I believe in them, and I think that you could get LeBron like what's stopping LeBron from going to the guys and? Saying, hey, Jimmy Butler signed a two year. I know you love Hollywood, your friends with the wall, burger guy with Donnie will Mark Mark, Mark Wahlberg, right? Yeah. What's stopping me from Saint sign a two year deal take twenty million a year or twenty million twenty million, whatever it is? And here's a part in Space Jam to for a couple of million dollars as well to, you know, just help to make it up somewhere else. Give some points on the movie too. You know, like let's get him some return on the DVD sales. Maybe to my point is what's stopping LeBron from doing this. There's nothing stopping LeBron from doing this behind the scenes. Okay. So why are you? You're acting like LeBron's our doing this. We know Brian Windhorst told the world on PTI back in mid-may that LeBron was having conversations with Kalat quite learn. Jimmy Butler even though quieter Jimmy Butler. We're still in the playoffs playing Jimmy Butler is still playing the first rider with Chris Paul. And Russell Westbrook yesterday. Yeah. I mean, and that's what he does LeBron does, and here's the key here, blocking dollar here on ESPN one thousand and ESPN app. This is why people love the NBA you have a chance every off season to remake your team. And to go for industrial bulls and the key here is this, you have right now, if you count the Lakers, what could possibly happen, this summer with the clippers the nets the Knicks the heat, the rockets, the seventy Sixers the Mavericks, they have cap space. And an owner who who wants to win and the Celtics that right there. That's nine teams in seven cities, all that will have interests this summer all with interest as what they can do to reshape their organization going forward trying to win a championship nine teams seven cities. That's what makes the NBA great is that movement is not solidified in the fact that you're in one spot, and you have to be there for your career, the NFL is built on the fact that you get a star quarterback and that quarterback will be your franchise until you don't want that star quarterback there. Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers will be together until Aaron Rodgers or the Green Bay Packers. Mostly the Packers don't want him to be there. Why? Because they can afford to pay him and quarterbacks. Don't move about in the NFL like star players in the NBA Ken, they can dictate policy. They can force it away somewhere. I get it some people erupts them the wrong way. But to others. It means your organs. Station each and every off season has an opportunity to take
Mike D'Antoni's Agent Not 'Willing to Take' Rockets' Latest Contract Amid Rumors
"In other NBA news contract tax reportedly back on between the rockets head coach Mike, Dan, Tony has been Tim McMahon reports of these sides are nearing an agreement with new rockets team, owner Tillman for Tita agreed to eliminate the bio language, that was the primary reason that did Tokyo's agent end attacks may thirtieth, but they're back on, again, with more ESPN NBA front office insider, Bobby marks. Well, I think it's a little bit of learning of for a new owner until for teetering. And I think he's on this team for about two years here that you can't run a rock at the basketball team like you do your own business, and to structure, a coach's contract extension likely. It's a scene with Mike, the Antoni. I, I had never seen that before basically performance bonuses in its you start low and then you kind of build your way out there. So, I think I think probably the last couple of weeks was, you know, doubt Daryl more probably educating him on as far as the business of basketball, and how you probably can't go out, you know with your head coach and how to structure with your system coaches here. So it's like something that's going to get resolved here. I think it's going to be interesting. What they do with their system coaches because they let go of, you know, just as Delic and ROY Rogers, and, and what the length of an extension will be here. It's, it's hard for an assistant coach to come on board when he's basically on a on a two Yukio. Yes. They will have somebody to get, you know, at the top of the line assistant coaches. I think that's a little bit of a challenge there. Bobby marks on ESPN radio's GTL rockets owner Tillman for t- ten GM, Daryl Morey visit my dad Tony at his home in West Virginia this week to smooth over any hard feelings, did Tonia one seventy three and seventy three record over three seasons as rockets had golden used Twenty-three, sixty in the playoffs during that span losing the Golden State the past two

Knicks Snap 18-Game Home Losing Streak with Win over Spurs to Avoid NBA History
"Guys. We have a guest here obviously on the shell Pennzoil performance line. And it is oh guy. Our guy Bagley get your bag. Ian, how're you doing? In. My three favorites out there tonight. I'm very excited. Yes. ESPN New York. Knicks reporter also does the nets and basically holds the upper east coast down in did you know that the Knicks made the Oscars they pretty much won an Oscar did you notice this? Yeah. We got wind of it on social media after the game. And we asked a couple of players about if they hadn't seen a year for too excited to just see the clip Samuel Jackson, and Spike Lee. Not every not every year that the Knicks could have mentioned on the Oscars deserves rightfully so. Because the Knicks would at home first time that happened since December one twenty eight and I'm talking about last year folks, twenty we're everywhere. Number one two thousand eighteen they won. They beat the Spurs one thirty one eighteen and I even saw the icing on the cake who threw off the backboard pass for the dunk like it was just wild. How important Dennis Smith? Well, of course, it makes sense. Usually he's on the other end of the dunk rape. How does this when in Madison Square Garden me? What was the field? Was it like a sign of relief for coach physio it felt like a weight off everybody's shoulders, you know, coach FitzGerald would tell us that they don't think about it. They don't talk about it. But then the players afterward joking around the locker room, it just felt like a much later lock home. Now, they knew about they were one loss away from Batasuna longest losing streak ninety history set in ninety three ninety four by the Dallas Mavericks. They know that they have the longest losing streak in franchise history. This so they're aware of those numbers. They don't want to be a part of that history. Tonight, especially the team like the city until you're Spurs. It's not easy, especially for this. And we've got a twenty two games left would throw out the record. We know where we know where we are twelve hundred forty eight what should be the goals over the next six weeks here with this team wanna see consistency. I think so Kevin Knox. You'd wanna see what Frank ntilikina as you're still trying to answer that question. You know, one one and a half almost two seasons. Enter France career, he should get healthy at some points to from this point. I think it was the next to kiss him significant minutes trying to answer that question to try to see if he can be elite guard. What did he do off the ball and where he used offensively so between seven and Saint not some consistency. From those guys. I think the next like what they've seen recently from young player in literal Robinson who who's really played well, especially since the Andre Jordan has come over from Dallas Jordan has done a good job mentoring. Mitch robinson. So I think it's it's the young players on your team and being able to project them forward who is a keeper who can you pencil in for next year? And who do you think won't be around piggybacking off your point there? What's the the Knicks recruiting pitch this summer? You know, who they Bill that around is it around, you know, playing with somebody like Dennis Smith. Knox. Or like what how does that play out? Jordan because you have the two max slots. Pitches almost hey, come come here and tell us who you wanna play with right twenty nine hundred she class, we get that you wanna play with and Kevin Durant. Also simple. You want to change the narrative around. Golden State to win those titles. You come here. And you have success in New York you wanna title in New York. I mean, that's a forever thing doesn't staffers outside of Madison Square Garden and no one. We'll talk about how joined that Golden State to win your earlier title simple message. Anybody else? It's tell us who you wanna play with. We'll try to bring that guy in. That's the voice of in Begley are ESPN next report. And that's reporter upper east coast. Reporter you're listening to insiders. I'm Bobby marks Jordan Schultz ESPN radio ESPN app and Sirius XM channel eighty now. Talking about obviously, the potential free agency this summer. Those are all big question marks largely because of the trade deadline, sending Kristaps Porzingis opening up two slots, but tell me how worried were Knicks fans watching Duke UNC this past week in. Knick fans are still watching the Knicks games. I give them a lot of credit assume most expensive watching every night. So. A big sigh of relief. I think I'm this fanbase when you found out that that sign injury wasn't that serious that he's going to be okay. Because this record twelve weeks at this point. And they're just looking ahead towards the trash and like every other bottom. Feeding MBA franchise. They're looking at nine what you've seen how he can impact their roster. How much he can change the fourteen organization. So, you know, certainly everybody around here was relieved when they found that he was okay. The interesting thing so Zion and wherever the Knicks end up in the draft in the top three. They hope is could that pick then help them creed. With the woman's Francis us, I think that's something. That's that's certainly on the fan bases minded. I'm sure the front office is thinking about different permutations packages. They could put together including that twenty nine team first round pick to try to entice New Orleans Detroit. And before we let you go. What do you think Zion playing in Madison Square Garden would look like do you think it would be just the new coming up LeBron or even even bigger based on his highlights in his dunking ability. I remember the Jeremy Lin Ron and how much energy was in the building night in and night out. How much of the event every home game was your masters. I think it would be just like that. But even more so sign Williamson was here. Because you know, he getting the franchise all three player people talk about him as a prospect the same way, they talks about Davis to bring that kind of talent into this building would give this reasons for optimism something they haven't had in a long time around here in. I look forward to our shared slice of pizza. I know we've been pushing off that day for a long time. He's been the best pizza apparently in New York. But before we let you go last, but not least we have awards given out for the MBA insiders and honors of aren't Oscars. Have you been watching the Oscars tonight? Because I've been at the. Is your feed though, you saw here. A little bit here and there, okay? This has been a Mahershala Ali love fest on the show, but we actually have awards given out today on MBA insiders throughout the course of the night. I want to get your vote for the last category that we're trying to push best leading man. Are you ready for this vote pleased? The nominees are Janta Takubo of the box. PG thirteen Paul George of the thunder James harden of the rockets and Kawhi Leonard of the raptors who is your best leading man right now. I would go right now with John giving Milwaukee's records they're standing in the conference in the role that he plays on that team. I think he's most deserving of that honor at the moment all of Georgia's a close second. Given what he's done for the thunder

"You only have so many resources, and if you spend too much of them on one place, you don't get spend enough him another place. That's just the deal. Would you think about a poor for to the bulls? I want to know what the direction is there. I mean, that's probably my biggest thing. I think they looked at it. Like, he's their free agent addition. That's that's how they look at it. You know, they came. We're not gonna go out and get big I and free agency. And we we got a poor for next three years here. And we can put a moat Levin, Mark and market in NC where we go. I mean, if he's if he can just stay healthy because he's been. Yeah. Nicked up a little bit. I I know in Chicago diving I've done radio there the last couple of days, they were like, basically crushing the move like really. Yeah. They just don't wait on they don't trust the front office. So that's that's a big thing. Chicago media is very hell bent on that they want to know what the what the direction of the team is going. So. It's like, I'm I'm fine with it. You know, I get the contract. You know, what twenty five twenty six million? You weren't going to be Jabari. Parker back. Can you make a case for Bobby Portis junior that you know, where you were you gonna pay him a lot of money? No. You're not going to pay him fourteen fifteen million dollars with marketing and Carter. No didn't make sense. So yeah, I I I understood it from Washington does a, you know, it's a salary dump basically. But it didn't it didn't move the needle for me. Like in like that. I'm going to say like, wow. Would that front office? Just do. Yeah. With with you. They are the angriest fan base. I think oh, man. I what who else is in contention for the angriest fan ball acres. I don't know if they're angry. I don't think they're angry. I think angry at their team. Oh, owing team our team. I think I think they're the run away. I think they're the does Chicago runaway winner because they see themselves as a big market team. Who shouldn't be winning fifteen twenty games? You know, who's gonna skyrocket up these rankings, July doesn't go. Right. Knicks fans. Yes. If July goes wrong. Yeah. The pro the protests are started. Yeah. Like in. I mean literal protests industry, and it could go wrong. We'll see could. We'll see. I don't mind. The bulls. Get out voters. Good. I don't mind. The bulls. Getting a good player. Yeah. They're going to say oh porter. The marketing Carter we got. We got our frontline great frontline have fine. You need someone who can run. Often. Do you need a point guard? You know, that's the biggest issue facing. A team has done is just okay. And Levin is a ball hog. Who makes terrible decisions and puts up empty calories numbers and looming. All over all of this, including what we just talked about the Knicks who gets ion because one of these teams is going to feel a lot better about life in may may fourteenth that what it is on nine o'clock someone's going to be happy. Do we know where the lottery is? I think it's in Chicago. Right. You know, I love the lottery, it's very complicated for me. Because I it's also going to be during the second round of the playoffs..

"I'll guess I'll say he looks told me he's gonna shoot lefty make sense. You know, we'll see we'll see what happens up pick out. Oh, porter or Harrison Barnes, which of those deals is interesting to you. What do you wanna say about either one? Those are the two of the other big ones Harrison Barnes, basically like Sacramento is always been like the dumping ground of contracts at the deadline, and they went out exhausted their remaining room to take in to take back Barnes. He's got a pretty big number of the player option. So we'll see how that plays out for the next three months. And then did the outburst straits. I did like him on Shumpert though. I thought he Shumpert was pretty good in in sacks. That's a good deal for Houston. But. I would pick. I would pick Harrison Barnes just because of you can get out of that contract. I think a little bit easier than that that porter number in in Chicago. Did it did them getting it shouldn't have? It wasn't surprising that they got Barnes. I think getting him for what are they gonna Justin Jackson zero? And that's it was our second there at all. Nope. That's it. The price. I think was all surprising. Charlotte was in on Harrison Barnes, which I learned last night. And did not know I think they offered a bad. I heavily protected I and bad money. Yeah. And that's why Dallas went the other ways. Like, we just don't want your his neck beyond buzzer. Whoever the or know who the bad money was bad money. Charlotte's interesting. Because like, I know we all know they were trying to upgrade at the end. But like like the Kemba like with your Kemba, you're looking at like, this is what you're roster is next year two. It's disappointing that they did nothing. Yeah. I think Kemba would be justified to say like we had all these balls of. Yeah. We had Mark soul and play. We were at the goal line marker that gold line. I mean that was a noon to one pm. I'm not sure what happened..

"Who's MS impressed me this year. Even it's weird. Even he's not shooting as well from three. I think he's been better player. Now, I agree. And you know, what happens is we set the bar for these guys so high after the rookie year, especially if you have a if you're a player who's picked them twenties. And it's like we're expecting. All right. What's next? What's next from this player in it is okay that they take a little bit of a step back and then kind of figure figure it out during the season. I mean think we saw would probably would Jason Tatum a little bit in Boston where we're like. All right. We're ready from the be put them in the all star game. But hey, it's part of part of those growing pains. So Anthony Davis did not get traded. Which means the Celtics are defacto winner of the trade deadline because Danny age now gets to pursue him in the summer. The knicks. I think will will pursue him. I think the clippers will pursue him. Maybe a mystery bidder. Emerges. You have an interesting take on the Anthony Davis situation. Please share it. Yeah. I think they dodged the bullet. The Lakers Lakers did. Yeah. I really do. I mean, you know in in the beginning of the week when up here at sportscenter. I've I was pretty adamant that he wasn't getting traded to Los Angeles. I I think I think put it at one percent, which I got a lot of hate mail. I put a lot of hate mail from Laker fans. They were not happy with me. And I just fans had a week. They had a week. So I wrote this big thing on the Lakers. The delicacy of how the Celtics could could and couldn't negotiate and some of the some of the very I this situation. I just I've never seen anything like it with so many angles tentacles and leverage plays and. So many franchise tangibly affected and the point of the column was I thought that the Lakers had an opening to make semi plausible, but a little bit desperate leverage plays that could work with the totally destabilized pelicans organization, they didn't work, but I I kept telling people I would put it at twenty percent zero. Or one percent. I thought they had a little bit better chance. Maybe I was wrong. But I thought they had an opening to make some place and in the story. I put Jason Tatum right now is a better prospect than anyone on the Lakers and the Lakers fans were like apoplectic. If you ask thirty GM's who's who's the best player and of Tatum Kuzina ball Ingram? Minimum twenty five or saying Tatum. Minimum. Sorry. That's a real thing. Sorry. It is. I'm sorry. No, you're right. I mean, and I looked at it from from the Lakers perspective. Like, we're getting up Ingram Kouzmin ball. I think heart guided end zoo Bach. I mean, basically, you know, cow cat fillers. You gotta take Salman hill back like what what's left with them. I who I to unprotected. I in. All right. What's you say? You got a D. You got LeBron? In you got, you know, whatever whatever's left, the minimum, you know, you got whatever's coming back from New Orleans, Tim Frazier Kendrick Williams that whole crew they're like, where's where's the the bounds of your roster? And then I look, and I'm looking at it from the summer or like, you got like are you got those too. And you got like fifteen million dollars in room to go out and put pieces around there. And it's I think they I think they really dodged a bullet. Because I said as I said before like, they were hey, there were nine hundred and fourteen before he got hurt, and then the sky's falling like we need like the whole mindset from the Lakers was it's it's a fascinating look at it from when it started the LeBron started in July one we get LeBron. Now, we're going to go out and get cap fillers. One year guys, we're going to be patient..

"Rules that go into effect this year. How does that impact? How teams play down the stretch where now you have the bottom? Three teams have a fourteen percent chance of getting number one overall pick. That's but flattened out used to be a descending order, and so how does that impact down the stretch whether it's RJ Barrett Zion. Williamson those aren't the only players people are targeting, but how does that impact this season? How teams play what tanking looks like? And I think that's for the league that changed odds. Elsewhere in the lottery to like, let's see how it impacts behavior. And that's something the legal be looking at this year. I think there were people who wanted them to go further in lottery reform, and I think what Adam silver thought was well, let's take it. This far see how it impacts behavior. How teams and then make a judge. About whether we need to go further with it. And it will be interesting to that you have teams like Chicago. And I remember listening to John Paxson at the end of the year in his press conference post postseason press conference, basically say like we'll never do this again, we're never going to go through season like this and for them at it. Circumstances are going to make them go through season like that based on how many injuries they've had with Lauri Markkanen. I've had Denzil mountin. Guys have been other Chris done has been out where they're going to get to a point of the year where it in reality. The best thing for them to do is finish in the bottom three as much as they don't like it. Maybe they handle it differently. Probably robin. Lopez won't be on the team by then. But if you are looking at New York, Phoenix. You know, Cleveland? How the system is set up is for you to bottom out in Finnish in that top three into. You're not going to get a guy in free agency, maybe New York possibly with cap space, but you know, those markets are you got to have to build through the draft. And if you can do it through this year with a good class. Top heavy top heavy good class. That's the way that's the way to do. It's just a matter of how how do you go about? I think in New York you're starting to see it where they're playing a lot of their younger players to try to figure out. You know, you saw NS Kanter come off the bench, and he was not happy about that. I think you could play. I think you could you walk the fine line of developing players and also trying to put out a competitive product Chicago's the one, it's funny. We talk about cap space and teams that should be enticing on some level of free agents. We don't ever include the bulls in there. They're going to have a lot of cap space. And this may not be the summer for them. But Markkanen Wendel Carter that core is acting ANZAC LeVine has been tremendous Schiffer getting that's a group that you say adding a veteran again, I don't know if it's a summer of two thousand nineteen, but that's a core that you New York would kill for that core to have that to go out in the free agency with right now. You're right and your window is you've got a two to three your window do because you've got mail markings on your two in Wendell's on your one, and you know, the Levin contracts. It's a it's a good number for him. And you are going to have plenty of room. And it's a big city. And you know, you have three pieces that you can you can build around..

"He's a little more like a college coach in that way. I think he thinks of the Spurs. They think of as a program more than of franchise, I think they've that's been the case with faults. And so I think going forward that's helpful to Foltz as long as he's there. But even if they decided to trade him my sense is that they would struggle to get a first round pick for him. I don't know that that would be out there. I think there'd be teams who would take them on their try to see if they could unlock something with him. But I don't think anybody's giving up a whole lot. And so I think it doesn't behoove the team to just move him right now. No doesn't. I mean. I I don't know if there's a big enough body of work for a team. That's interested in him to give up first round. Picks which as you as you see now are rare rare to come by. There's not many outstanding picks. That are owed. And I think, you know, full it it was, you know, when the report came out about seeing a second opinion or a teen another doctor, I think it was a punch to the gut of the front office and the coaching staff that had put so much investment in him and had walked him slowly through this last year and through now and was the best interest where as you mentioned. I I don't know if that will be the case if he is traded somewhere else. I mean, the acquiring team is want to put them out there for thirty thirty five minutes, and you're likely going to a rebuilt. I mean, you're probably going to team that you know, has not won many many games there, and it'll be an inch. It's a fascinating story to one that Philadelphia gave up a lot four, and we're not, and it's not being mentioned as much because that Sacramento team is playing well, I mean if that Sacramento team was two and fourteen right now that pick that they traded to Boston as part of it. We'd be talking a lot more about it. But right now, it's really false for Tatum. In Tatum struggled a little bit this year too. But they've they there is a lot of capital invested in Marquel? Let's say in Philadelphia, let's say he comes back from this and Marquel comes back and is active again, but he's not going to play much Philly. If that's what would happen. Do you think there's a benefit to him getting minutes in the G league? I don't I think practice. I think it's a it's depending on where you're how your practices scheduled. I mean, I think practice in what your NBA team is as good as going down to plane Delaware right now. If there's a point where later in the year where you know, there's a combination of a lot of back to back games, and he's not playing at all. And he's basically in the gym by himself with a trainer, then maybe there is a time. But I do think there is you know, I mentioned the body of work. You know, there are there's that small sample of him when he has the pull on his hands. And he is the primary point guard on a core. He there are some good things there. You know? I mean, we certainly scrutinize free shoe. Shooting and his -bility to get to the rim in certain things. But if I would be more hesitant sending him down to the G league right now because I think how the schedule and how the league is set it up now where there's not many back to back anymore that you are practicing more. Today's episode of the pot is brought to.
Minnesota Timberwolves teammates caught off guard by Jimmy Butler trade demand
"Coa Leonard is you know, he's an MVP level player in the NBA. Jimmy Butler is an outstanding player, but he's. Level below that, and he's older. And I think the question too is this isn't breaking up in Minnesota because he doesn't like Tom tiptoe. He's always had a good relationship with Tibbett. Oh, now it's strained as this process plays out and he doesn't get the trade and you'll see become probably more at odds. I think that's starting to happen. But the fact is he credits Tom thibodeau a great deal with his development of player. Last pick of the first round out of Marquette, who went to Portsmouth and the pre-draft process was fighting to just be a first round pick and becomes an all star max player in Chicago, and the fact that if you're another team and you're saying he's walking away from Tibbs, he's walking away from this team. Could he do that to us after seven months? And I think that factors into your thinking too, about what you give up for him? One hundred percent, right? I mean, he that extension that. Minnesota offered him would be available six months after your quired him, and he's not going to accept, you know, four years, one hundred million dollars. He is certainly renegotiate renegotiate his contract. But as Minnesota learned this summer, when you're over the cap, you can't go about doing it and it would take gutting, you're going your roster to do it. And you know what I've learned is that when you go out and make these type of trades, you're always chasing that trade and you're trying to acquire other pieces to make that player happy. And you're really, you're really hurting your roster to do. So. I mean, I mean the the Darren Williams trade back in two thousand eleven in the year later to follow up with Jerry Wallis because you're trying to convince Williams to stay or your trading multiple draft picks because you're trying to convince that player to stay in free agency. And I think that's where. That's where the situation in Toronto with Colli that Masais got a good comfort level with that roster there with Kyle Lowry surge Bach, and some of the younger players Dhillon. Right. And then Lee Valance Eunice that he doesn't have to go out there and go out and get it Jimmy Butler PO. Possibly that he says, I can go to, you know, I can go to battle with these guys that when fifty nine games with Colli Leonard. And that's a lot different than maybe the team like Brooklyn who acquires Butler and then says, what other pieces can I go out and get to try to piece his player to make us competitive? And I think that's really where teams really get themselves in

"With Minnesota, their talks with teams how they might proceed, how they proceeded so far butlers value on the market and what it means for the league here in the preseason and the stakes for the teams who are interested in him who might like to trade form and how that could impact July for years and see all that with Bobby marks. Let's get right to it. Welcome into Bobby marks ESPN's front office insider, Bobby. How are you? I'm good. How are you? I'm great. I'm great. There's taping this on Friday morning. There's another conversation I'd love to have with you on another issue, but we can't have that conversation here. Bobby is not. It is out about all star voting all NBA voting. I would like to have a voting conversation, but we're not going to do that, but we are going to talk about Jimmy Butler and start there. Bobby. You've been a both ends of this work in a nets front office where you've had to trade star players. They've asked for trades and you've been on the other end where you've tried to acquire star players who had asked for trades elsewhere and tried to do a deal with them. Jason Kidd was probably the most notable that you went through Rod Thorn was. The GM with the nets at the time you will work in the front office. Jason had already signed the extension with the nets. He was in the middle of a five year contract when he said he wanted out. And as I remember that was expedited by a night at Madison Square Garden when Jason sat out a game against the Knicks, I think there were a lot of questions around the nets about that. You said he had a migraine headache. Jason never wanted to miss games that the guard against the Knicks or Jason did miss many games anyway. And I remember that expedited the deal with Dallas, but what Minnesota's facing here? Bobby, it's been over a week since he asked for the trade history tells you it generally takes time to negotiate out the kind of deal you wanna get. These kinds of deals are hard to do in like a seven to ten.
Mets' Todd Frazier comes clean on fake catch
"Here's what we're talking about. Todd Frazier, who will be at third for the Mets tonight in a game that starts in about an hour, was it? I was at this game on Monday night at Dodger Stadium. Mayday diving catch going into the stands along the third base line in England. He tumbled into the stands and he came out with holding the ball a pie and say it. I caught it in the called the batter out. It turns out Frazier went into the stands drop. The actual play didn't catch it. Saw a youth baseball on the ground. Picked it up, showed it to the empire, the empire called the out. Then he threw the youth baseball back in the staff like he was a good guy to give away as souvenirs. Amazing. I mean, just played it off

"These are all these are gonna be off season questions for the spurs and it's some point co is going to have to answer them i think and i think this has been further complicated by the fact that he's not very communicative he did talk one day maybe once in the last few months after a one of their practices but but then shed much light on anything he doesn't say much publicly and of course that leads to confusion and he's not that much different privately with them agent rousey and the insider an analyst short right here with steven a on espn radio what was let's go to some of these other these the these other news i just read that jodie meeks the washington wizards averaging six points on a year for crying out loud is suspended for twenty five games violating antidrug policy and therefore he's not eligible for the postseason i'm thinking about that i'm also thinking about the fact that some of the dramas surrounded the washington wizards this season with john wall being out etc where did you watch now i'm just talking about as a team collectively as a unit how would you describe how things have gone for them this year and with things are right now yeah we reported the big story this afternoon and he is just twenty five game suspension starts tomorrow he won't make the trip to toronto with the team and obviously this carries into next season he he hasn't had his best season but this is a team that has you know he's averaged fourteen fifteen minutes a game for them and and did give them some depth to the guard position but it's a you know bobby marks made a good point earlier are for office insider you know talking about going through this with cliff robinson when they when he when bobby worked for the nets that even though robinson wasn't a big part of the team it's jarring to a team on the eve of the playoffs to have something like this i mean it throws everybody off a little bit and washington certainly is a team their starting five is better than most it's it's.
Why it didn't work out for Isaiah Thomas in Cleveland
"Bobby marks job than hood glad you're with us here on espn radio will hear from michael c wright who covers the spurs at the bottom of the hour right here on espn radio we ask you to open up a tab in check out brian windhorst and david menem and putting together a terrific column on espn dot com regarding isaiah thomas arm briolettes talk a little bit about this this stories entitled why it didn't work out rise air thomas and cleveland um so i i the one of the reasons why i didn't choose cleveland to win the east is because i didn't like the roster composition as airtime was being part of that but it didn't work out could you can tell us about that call them that europe well it's working out for is aimed at night because he's got twenty point and they leakers are up by fourteen the last two minutes against the cavs and i'm sure he save during this performance yet gotta that the what happened when the cavs made this deal remember that they traded career of avoiding they really did to try to get that draft pick but they but they got they got isaiah thomas and they brought him to cleveland and they gave him an mri and they almost pulled the plug on the trade and when that happened it had an affect on a lot of different things especially on the way lebron james you the trade because lebron either he you're never going to impress lebron james with a draft pick i tell people this and they they seem to they can't believe it but the broadest only played with two first round picks who were rookies in the last ten years now to talk about guys who got drafted and then played with matt you're obviously he's got teammates were first round former first tropics he's never really had both of those guys were minor players jj dickson had norris kohl he's never been a part of a team that's drafted highly and gotten players in so he doesn't you're not going impress him with draft picks he wants to know who is going to play with him when he found out that isaiah thomas had a really severe injury was nothing against isaiah personally he wanted just what the hell the.
