"I liked her knocks. I really do those. You people will say nan hard knocks not my thing. It's my guilty pleasure. It really is and they got a good young core. They really do with cd lamb on offense with z. Cam dak prescott plus amari cooper who nobody seems to be talking about. That is a great young core. And plus i really think on defense. I really think they've found somebody. I really do. I really think especially. I think stephen a wrong screaming as ron when he caught it soft knox because not only do i think that michael parsons will be good player in this league. I think he might win the defensive player of the year one year and he. I think he might win. Rookie of the year deep into rookie of the year this year. That's how good this kid is that. How good mica. Parsons is my mike. Parsons when i watch him on. Tape at penn then when it washed them on tape at cowboys practice on. Hbo i thought at one thing and one thing. Only i thought of the great navarro bowman when i see mike parsons out there. I instantly see navarro bowman. This guy is so young now. Both going from penn state both great linebackers at penn state. But this guy has all the intangibles he now if you're linebacker in this league. It's not bruising ground and pound and you know what it so much more the league as a linebacker. The players in the league at linebacker has changed dramatically. We all talk about the quarterback position changing from a pocket passer to a threat quarterback who can do anything well. The linebacker position in the nfl has changed dramatically. Just like the quarterback position. We all know the linebacker. The middle linebacker is supposed to be the quarterback of the defense and ticket. This kid to be your guy to be your quarterback of the defense. The first rounder. That is a lot to handle being so young and being a rookie to get the green dot on your helmet from the first camp that you're taking off a lot of pressure but you know what there's a reason they drafted him in the first round. There's a reason they drafted this kid. At penn state. I just whenever i see. Mike parsons i just instantly. Goto navarro bowman. I just instantly go to it. He has the foot speed. He has the hips he has. The toughness is intelligent but his speed. He's just so fast and that's where most of the great linebackers today in the nfl you look at for example hulu to best linebackers in the nfl. Right now. okay ones dairies leonard. Who just a massive contract deal or contract extension to make him. The is paid linebacker. And fred warner san francisco. One guy in indianapolis one guy in san francisco now what those two guys have in common. Well the teleconference it just. By far top of the notch. Their intelligence their football. Iq it just so high that they can read a play before it even happens and you can equate that to staying in and looking at tape looking at bill and being productive off the field when it comes to working ou- when it comes to studying film when it comes to in the weight room and in the film room that's how that's how you can acquaint yourself in the nfl as linebacker. That's how you can get better by staying in the weight room and studying and putting in good work in the film room but you also say well okay you can study all you want you can be in the way room all you but it matters most on the field of play. Now you can ask yourself okay. They both are elite and they both are great linebackers. Why i'll tell you why. They're foot speed and their ability to hit the hole and covered. Anybody is impeccable. That's why they're making millions. And that's why. I think this kid is going to be one of the best linebackers. Not only as a rookie right. Now it's going to win the rookie of the year. I just see it. But i just see him as if everything goes well with this kid if this kid can keep his head right which seems camby he lives breathes can eat football this kid. Mike parsons remember the name. 'cause this kid will be a great linebacker wherever it goes and if he stays long-term with the dallas cowboys this kid's gonna make immediate impact right away right away. I i just see navarro. Bowman when i see this kid as he is speed. I see the intelligence. I see the ability to get around the edge. I see the ability to build a whole. 'cause if you're linebacker right now this league you're gonna have to do multiple things you're asked not only to fill the hole in the gap and meet the running back. Put your auto asked to cover tight end and you're also asked to cover a slot receiver or running back coming out the flat now most linebackers in this league they can only cover a tight end and maybe maybe a running back but this kid has the elite foot speed that can not only be able to hit the whole am meet the rang back head on but he can also cover running back and a flat. It can also covered the slot receiver and the x. y. And he's not he's not willing to give up ground to a tight end who's bigger than him or wide receiver whose faster than him. His foot speed if impeccable and his speed alone. He's got breakaway speed. In my opinion he can. He's gonna to learn some things in the nfl. He's going to have his welcome to the nfl moment. Like oh rookies do..

"Why they're successful and they'll tell you one reason and one reason only because our authentic defensive lines are so dominant that we can just beat everybody off the ball and we can just dominate them and dominate the launch scrimmage. It's simple as that. Everybody can try to drop these trick. Plays drop the wildcat drop these fake passes here and do the of liberty and drop. These crazy plays but it's simple football. We're not going east and west football about going north and south. It's really simple. it really is. I feel like a broken record. But that's why bama that's what clemson that's why ohio state and oklahoma that's why they're so dominant that's why they compete for national championships year in and year out now like i mentioned before. I'm gonna give you a lie teasers for this year and i'm gonna give you some of my picks for when it comes to a way too early prediction and i'm gonna give you one team to look out for the season because not only do they have the talent but they have the coaching staff and they have when it comes to the best part of their system and the best part of their program in general is what i just talked about the of line so this name may shot you. But don't be surprised. Don't be surprised if you see. Cincinnati up there in the top five and may be competing for a championship. This year may be playing against alabama or clemson in the first round of the college football. Playoff i just look at it like this. They have a returning quarterback. In ridler. Who i think will be that veteran presence that every college football team needs their offensive. Line is as tough as they come their offense of line averages probably what two fifty two probably three hundred pounds. It's crazy how good this team was lashed. Here it's crazy. They're they're what seven points away from being georgia last year. In what was it the peachable. It was some crazy game. I camera got my head. But don't be surprised when you see cincinnati the ring number ten right now. Unc's retired them. I state was good good program but they could be that surprise team that nobody sees coming this year in college football and when he sees cincinnati rise up the ranks rides up from ten to seven to four. Don't be surprised. And i'll be the first one to tell you it happened. You heard it here first. Cincinnati cincinnati bearcats are going to at least push for a chance to make the college football playoff this year. Now not sarah. I'm not sure the guy make it. Some weird injury could happen but they have a veteran team. Bedrock veteran often define and a veteran quarterback to lead that team to lead that offense now no they don't play the greatest conference do not. Ese but the american athletic conference the afc. It's no joke. Don't get it twisted. I might put the ac over the pac twelve. That's how good this lavin's is and that's how good cincinnati kmby so don't be surprised if he sees cincinnati this year. Go up the rank college football and don't be surprised when you see that. They're the media darlings for this year 'cause they got a squad and they will be legit. You heard it here first. Okay moving right now. So i i mentioned and i broke down and i teased before the break and during the first segment that i did something that i never thought i would do and you know what i i. I'm kind of a hypocrite. When i say this but i did something that is going to shock and you know what don't be took it's not me. It's just a football junkie in me. That i can't believe i did this in a tell you all about it coming up on the other side stick around. Tired.

"The program. Happy friday happy friday the thirteenth or having a great weekend whenever you're listening to this okay. Previous segment we talked a lot about college football and we paid our respects to one of the greatest football minds in all of college. Football respect to bobby bowden and just note 'prayers and thoughts for his family for everything that they went through such a great celebration of life. Bobby bowden passed away of pink crowded cancer at the age of ninety one. And you know he just. He lived a full life. And sometimes when it's your time it time so rest in peace bobby. We know you're up there. And we know that you are thinking and watching down upon florida state football so like i mentioned before like it-it's before the break is it business as usual for college football in the ap top twenty five. So tell me thinking. Oh the coaches poll doesn't mean anything right. The ap top twenty five coaches adds nothing. We'll wait to the season. Well it does mean something. It means that where you're right now is going to be where you're at at the beginning season. And do you want to be on this list. You want to be up there and yeah it's business as usual it's meet. The new boss sang the old boss. Top four teams. You know what we've been talking about this almost all offseason for god. Football number one alabama number two clemson and three ohio state. No actually number three oklahoma number four ohio state and there were five georgia nets at the same thing we got last year. And you know what. Why wouldn't it be alabama clemson oklahoma and allow state. Why wouldn't it be because those are just the powerhouses but there's some interesting things to take away from this 'cause football ap top twenty five poll. So we're going to go down the list alabama number one clemson at number two. Oh oklahoma number three allows state number four and rounding out the top. five georgia. yeah you get to. Scc schools in there an acc school a big ten and a big twelve school. You know what you don't see you know what you don't see any pac twelve schools. What the highest rate of rated pac twelve school. I'm looking at it right now. The highest rated pac twelve school is not even the top ten number twelve with oregon now. The pac twelve is very underrated. But it's people think that the pac twelve is kind of like the laughing stock of the power five conference not looking you got oregon at number twelve. Usc and number fourteen. You've got washington and number twenty one and that's pretty much it. You only get three pac twelve schools in their nama west coast guy and that just seems a little ridiculous goes. I mean if you just look at the pac twelve compared to all be other conferences. Look how many teams the. Sec has the sec has six teams and you can only see the pac twelve getting three and you know what some of those teams probably shouldn't even be there to even know that. Us's can be good this year. Do we know that washington is going to be power conferences here and the pac twelve. We don't know but this is just what some people believe in the coaches poll. This is where people think that you're at you're going to want to be on this list. This list is going to change over the year but right now at the top. I don't see changing at all this season unless something happens in a less. You know one of these. Major teams bama clemson oklahoma or how state loses. And maybe you can see georgia. Tech sanam or notre dame jumping in but honestly for college football. It's business as usual for the college football landscape. But you know looking at it right now. We're going to have the playoffs expanded. Hopefully knock on wood. We're gonna have the playoffs expanded to twelve teams. Maybe sooner rather than later so if your those small town schools and you're not on this list yet don't worry you still got some time. But you're gonna have to compete with bama with clemson with allow state and with oklahoma just because they have best groups and you know what. I don't think that this is going to change at all. I think at the end of the year. we're still going to see clemson alabama. We're still going to see is state and georgia and oklahoma. Be at the top. We just are. Maybe you'll have lsu sprinkled in. maybe you'll have. I don't a shocker. Like cincinnati who most people are probably sleeping on right now but it just business as usual for college football in my mind. And i just don't see a changing. I don't see changing because you're going to have to be these teams not only when it comes to recruiting but you've got to beat these teams when it comes to on the field to if you can't beat these teams in recruiting. You're certainly not going to beat these teams on the field and you know what in my opinion. I liked the rivalry people can say. Oh but i want something different. I want something new. Well you know what if you want the niffer and you want something. New beat them. There's there's this old saying in sports that it doesn't it never fades away. Whatever what generation you're talking about. It's so cliche but it. Perfect for this instance in sports going to be the best. You got to beat the best you just have to. If you want to be up there with bama with clemson with ohio state with oklahoma with georgia with lsu if you want to be up there with those top schools you gotta beat them and you know what. I'm super excited for for football. We back super excited for college. Football to be back because it's so pure and it's a sport that is unlike anything else. There's nothing like tailgating on a saturday morning and watching your team on saturday night. Play under the lights cold. Football is one of my favorite sports. And we're going to talk a lot about comfortable. it's it's coming. It's coming fast. So in my opinion call for ball. It is business as usual. But i'm not tripping about that because that's the best talent that's the best talent can. Those are the best players and the best players are going to go to the best schools because not only will they have the opportunity to make as much money as they can. Off name image and likeness. But they're going to be able to profit off their careers in the spotlight of contra bowl those athletes the best of best. They're going to want to go those schools and they're gonna show what everybody thinks of them and they're going to show their talents. Not only during practices not only dirt scrimmages. But they're gonna want to show their talents and get themselves ready for their next step because honestly everybody who's playing division one football. They wanna go the pros. They wanna be in the nfl but you know what only the best of the best only about maybe one percent of high school football players actually go to the nfl and actually have careers in the nfl. And you know what the stepping that they're gonna wanna achieve. They're going to achieve at these big time schools. They're going to achieve alabama at clemson at ohio state at oklahoma at georgia. Not only because they're playing against the best of the best but they're giving the opportunity to show that they're the best on national. Tv every single week every week on. Cbs on abc nbc. Who do you see in college football. Who do you see every week on those channels. He see the best of the best. No one wants to see a mountain west game. No one wants to see an atlantic coast conference game between to the bottom feeders. No they wanna watch the sec. They wanna watch the big ten. They don't wanna watch the pac twelve network. They want to have the best of the best on the field. They want to see the future. Nfl stars up tomorrow. They just do they do any no. It's good for the game because it's business as usual and the know how much money they can make off these teams. Because they're the best they just simply are and you ask themselves. Why are the best. Well because they get their best recruits they dominate. The lime scrimmage and they're just mentally prepared they're physically just a step above everybody else and they just have that it factor. They just do. Sometimes you have to have the factor in college football. Sometimes you have to have the biggest guys the cock you skies and the guys with the most swag and you just see that throughout the top..

"Get to our wanna be i have to go under this guy and bobby bowden not only not only was he a great football mind but i also heard. He's a great football person in person in general because i equate to what he's doing his success wise. If you don't know what he's doing. I equate what he did back in. One thousand nine hundred seventy two two thousand and his what. His forty years of coaching. I quit to him. What i see. Nick sabin right now in alabama in this generation. That's how good this guy was. When because honestly his reign aid success his reign over the college football landscape hands down second to none now his coaching style. One of the first ever players coaches. Now what do i mean by players coaches will. I mean he coaches for the players. He's not a dictator. He's not authoritative coach. He is a coach for his players now. A lot of people called him soft over the years but his players respected him even more because he wanted to know what the players thought he wanted to know. Okay i have these players in i in my system. How can i better them. How can i better them lives. Not only on the football field but as person in general and how can we beat accessible. He realized that you know what these players can see something that i just can't see and it's great and more coaches. You see more court coaches like they want their players to understand what they're trying to do but they also understand that there players can see more things on the field that they just came. And you know what. I've also heard that. Bobby bowden was a great guy in general from many articles that i read and people. I've heard talk about him. He gave player to second chance because he his players especially in the state of florida. He knew his players. Were going through some stuff. I'm just going to be honest. With living in the mean streets and the slums and the bad parts of florida. Any place any city. Any state has bad areas where you have gang violence in you have violence as a whole and people trying to survive in people trying to make it out. There's so many places that children grow up and they just are looking for a way out and they're just looking for a way out of the slump in the mean streets and these kids. They were given a chance by playing football by playing the game. We know and love. And i'm not sugarcoat. 'cause they're if these kids weren't playing football those kids who that he coached. They weren't playing football. Who knows where they would be some of those kids in football. We don't know where they'll be today if dion sanders one of his great players. We don't know if he would be the coach. We know he'd be primetime hall of famer. The all pro. We don't know where it'd be. So he gave kids looking for an opportunity looking for a way out. It gave that he gave that path to him and you know what he was better off because those kids were hungry. Those kids wanted to win. Those kids wanted a better way of life and he showed him in and it just it was a perfect combination. Even though he was a great person he was great person who gave a lot of people opportunities in second chances he was also a great mind and he was considered the riverboat gambler. Before people deemed ron rivera the riverboat gambler. He was innovative. He knew when to push it. He knew when to back off his players but he would just such a great innovative talent and he had a great mind of football and he thought the ball. Twenty four seven. You can say you think football you could say your football head you could say you love the ball but this guy literally lived breathed and eat football and it showed bobby bowden was one of those guys who's just so innovator in so cutting edge that you know. He thought of things that nobody would think of. He would try to be aggressive. And sometimes that aggressive paid off in the long run for example bowden's most famous trick play came in nineteen eighty eight at clemson. He senate plan. He's his punk team out onto the field with knock around like a minute left tie game with a fourth and four and the ball on florida's dates twenty one yard line. Just think about that. So for most of the you're putting that's tuition most coaches now. They're pointing in bobby bowden's mine. He's i know everybody thinks that we're putting right now when they think when they zig we zach. That will bobby bowden things. So he ran. He ran the punt team out there and he had a fake punt placed florida state. Punter leapt over and acted like the ball was in the air and chasing down but then the up back took the ball and split. It went for about seventy eighty yards to to get to the clemson one. That's how innovative this guy was that how he was in that just how bad he wants to win. Because in now in this day and age if you're having a fake punt on fourth and four inside your own thirty yard line inside your own twenty five and you don't make that you're getting roasted. But that's just how bobby bowden was. He played to win the game and he was also considered one of the best handlers of great individual talents. Like i mentioned before he had great players like primetime and his recruiting and developing of the legs of simmons ward winky warrick butler and dion sanders prime time during his days. As a seminal was one of the probably the main reason it was so successful. Because he knew that those players those recruits from florida were way better than any other recruits in the league in the land and he no. He wanted to keep them in florida now. Florida state's recruiting class were nearly always among the top nationally. But by the nineteen nineties the seminoles they poured star town into the nfl and the annual basis including four top nineteen picks into two thousand six draft. The same year. Bobby bowden was elected to the college football hall of fame. You had that just crazy stat..

"By the letter of the law. I would say yes however that's also just to. Nba players being friends off the court talking off the court and that's the reason i've never liked the aspect of tampering in the first place because it's so easy to misjudge exactly what's going on. Is it to friends talking. Is there actual tampering going. On as like where do you draw that line. It's all kind of a subjective line there a subjective distinction as well in regards to what tampering actually is. So that's my complaint here with the nba. And this whole story. I just to me. I understand you want to you know. Have a league that is built on integrity. You don't want tampering between players teams organizations or anything but in the twenty first century since Cell phones social media twitter. All of these things. It's so easy that how you police. It is such a hard hard thing at so. I don't necessarily blame the nba on that end. Just because they're trying to keep it out of their sport but at the same time there really is no actual way to police this by and large in the twenty first century. And i think that's the problem. And then like i said the fact that the nba is just picking and choosing where it wants to find tampering when you could basically find tampering anywhere. That's my biggest complaint. Don't come after deals with the small guys because they're not as important if you're going come after deals with the small guys with a few of these smaller market teams go after the superstars as well go after your you know your actual super teams sure. Big market teams. Who do who do the same thing. So that's my complaint there with the nba Sure i absolutely think tampering went on. But you know. Tampering goes on in all kinds of deals in the nba. And if you think otherwise. Quite frankly i just think you're being a little naive and a little foolish That's my breakdown. Dare coming up in the next segment. The university of memphis getting a commitment. Fraum jalen durin who has reclassified from the twenty twenty. Two class moved to the twenty twenty one class and will now be eligible to play for memphis this upcoming season. I wanna talk about that. Move what that means for memphis what that means for penny hardaway. The head coach at memphis. And what does that do in terms of the college basketball landscape for this season so all of that is coming up. Stay tuned for it coming up right after this short commercial break. "Love him and dat in the end more than wins and losses. More than anything else. I think that is the more important factor. When we're talking coaches when we're talking college coaches especially is. How do you develop these young adults. Intimate and bobby bowden. Did it the right way. He always did it the right way. And that i think is going to be his ending legacy as he passed away sunday morning at the age of ninety one Leaving behind six kids. Two of them have gone on to become college. Head coaches in their own. Right in terry and tommy but nonetheless the sport of college football lost a great one early this week in bobby bowden who passed away at the age of ninety one. Rest in peace. Bobby bowden prayers and condolences to his family. I hope they are dealing with this in an okay manner and i hope everything is working out for them. The best it can when you get some news like this. So that's the breakdown of bobby bowden. His legacy his Career if you will Now coming up in the next segment. I wanna talk about the nba and the fact that they have announced that they are doing in investigation. A tampering investigation into certain Moves that were made in free agency this year so stay tuned for that. I'm going to be giving my opinion on all of this in the news like i said that the nba is now deciding to potentially crackdown on tampering with some moves that we saw last week in regards to nba free agency so stay tuned for that all of that coming up right after this quick commercial break. "The talk about how he's eight schools. Nobody wants them. There is always a little bit of reecey. Bias in conference rely on meant. I know that you know utah. Got the pack twelve in large part because that was all happening right after. They had that undefeated season so tcu has gone to the rose bowl when they moved up to the big twelve iowa. State about playoff. I think they probably do become more attractive to another power. Five conference and then matt campbell could accomplish wherever he wants to their. Yeah it's a fascinating. Because as we said they have they're loaded in terms of who they come back not just experienced guys on the offensive line or on defense quarterbacks. Obviously a lot but big time running back very good. Receivers terrific tight end. They a lot of pieces. There feels like the iron is pretty hot for them One this question also did for me was kinda reinforced man. the big twelve is Bash it but in terms of like it's so diminished if you if you take oklahoma out of it and certainly texas because then you start going through list of like who are the other commodities. That people are going to go like okay. That feels like big time football and right now it's just not there at this point once you get the names that that nathan throughout axelsson who's been covering the heck out realignment for us in terms of the big twelve implications. Had a really good story on monday. You should read with a bunch of updates on where things stand without lee In a had in it a graphic that i thought was pretty telling i get into their average recruitment for reading class rankings than the fact is none of these teams of these teams Other teams tcu has the highest five-year average class ranking in. That's thirty one. So not a single top twenty five dream team in the bunch and then the one that really stood out to me. Nfl draft picks by conference two thousand seventeen to twenty twenty one per school. The sec twenty one point three traffic's per school over that period the ace. And then there's a big drop the acc at thirteen point to the big ten twelve point seven the pac twelve thirteen point three. The big twelve is ten point three if you take oklahoma and texas out of it. The big twelve average is seven point eight and if al draft picks school about a third of the. Sec's that is a huge dropoff right. But that's not the be all and all but Piece of it right. I mean really telling 'cause it's gonna get easier for the schools to recruit future Nfl players if they don't find a power five landing spot. That's exactly true. Yeah you know anything about tulsa I know they have to good receivers. All right good Okay all right. Through in kiawah island south carolina with a maybe the first ever tulsa question on this podcast why is tulsa not getting more love coming into the twenty twenty one season. Presume starter davis. Brian was electric and leading a comeback. Win against lane. Virtually one and a half quarters last season. The golden hurricane returned ten starters from the nation's best defense is last fall and their schedule features multiple intriguing games including at oklahoma state at ohio state. I agree that's pretty intriguing. Memphis absent ain't acid at smu which the expectations be twenty twenty one for coach. Montgomery's group is a return to the ac title of your ass. I don't think it's a fair ask. Look they return ten stars back from the defense. They don't return still. I think that the best defensive player in the country arguably last year. Yeah i thought gonna say the conference but yeah you can mean zaven. Collins did everything for them. He's six four to sixty. Could run sideline to sideline and made a ton of plays both In the backfield in you know in the secondary in coverage right so i think the challenge is with this like. Here's what is good is they. Do have to really good receivers. You know as we were joking about this Not joking but we're talking offline. About how much have we seen these guys. I mean they have really good receivers. I mean there you know. I think the challenge with them. Where one thing don't governor. He's done really well is former baylor. System has gotten really players at of taxes. One carlos santana. He's one of those receivers Is texas kid. Stokes the other guy. I mean these are really good players. I just don't know if you look at. What the a c has i think. Cincinnati is legit top. Ten top fifteen kind of team. I think that good I think when you start to look at the rest of the conference to me you know i think. Smu is going to be really good. They have really good receivers. I think. Sonny dykes is upgraded. The talent there quite a bit I don't see tulsa as one of the top three teams in the league. I think they're somewhere in the next in next level behind that. Because i think houston is going to be much improved. I think they're kind of right right in that group. Yeah i would agree with that. But i gotta tell you i you know you're really bad about dumping on also because my up dumping on that we're just saying like a. They're not i don't think cincinnati also again the thing i want to caution against is they have a lot of guys back. The one guy don't have back is the best player in a long time there. So that's that's all i'm saying is i think they're very good team. I just don't know if i see them being like what. Cincinnati to me. Cincinnati is right now the class of the conference. That's all yeah. I would i think are at least put cincinnati. Smu above them. I know some people are very high in houston But outlets this tulsa showed me enough last year that i'm not gonna completely dismiss them. Impartially be just completely out of respect to drew and kiawah island is clearly must be tulsa along as i just. I just can't imagine drew. I'm curious are there any other Tulsa fans on kiawah When you wanna watch the games on saturdays do you have anybody any affiliates. Also fans you can go to a watch with Feel free to follow back up at the audible pod at Transfer for whatever for for. Fwiw on this In the preseason a c media poll do you know where tulsa finished fourth. No that would be dana. Holger since team finished fourth they finished six and that doesn't mean they won't prove people wrong but it was cincinnati overwhelming favourite. Twenty two of the twenty four first-place votes. ucf got the other two What's the augusta's in your engine. You i know. I felt like i should've The gus will see how it goes there. he's still got a bunch of talent there from From josh hypol- smu's third houston fourth memphis. Feth tulsa six to lane willie. I done a nice job. There is seventh than issue navy temple number. Eleven u s f. You see the video of big cat. Bryant the defensive end who transferred you know follow gusts from auburn to ucf. They asked him. Hey you played in the sec. How this roster stack up and he immediately said. Oh we would definitely beat auburn so there you have it They kept ryan throwing his former teammates under the bus. He has every reason to be competence highly of his new team but couldn't believe he went there. Okay so last. Question is from quinn in bowling green ohio Will nifl allow larger brands schools to skirt scholarship limits for example major. Nfl player earners could be talked by coaches and booster into opting to pay their own way while earnings and be walk. On's.

"His role is also very much in question. So will those people be able to still be at arizona state and they'll just kind of painted on these three Entry level position coaches I don't know. I mean to me Asu is in a very precarious spot. And it. I would ask you on this front. We've seen head coaches with coaching show causes. Maybe that's where it's headed for these these coaches at asu. I'm not talking about the three young coach. i'm talking about potentially herm as well as the other you know. I don't know how you handle in a number one and number two. Adm as number two. But i mean if the if the school really wants to back them. It's not like once you have the job. If somebody doesn't want fire somebody and we've seen this in the basketball scandals that have gone on in college hoops. Those people are. I don't wanna say they're almost untouchable. But it feels like that doesn't not you follow the college hoops scandals quite a bit. You know whether we've seen scandals with jim behind we've seen scandals with a lot of other high profile coaches who have a lotta capital within their universities. Do you think that's that's that's how this could play out. Yeah i just. I don't think people fear the ncaa the way they once did. I don't think there's any faith or you know the the old strategy of his would be here would be cleaning house and show. You're taking this seriously. And basically begged for mercy but ever since. Unc basically lawyer bits way out of a huge academic fraud scandal with almost no penalties. It does seem like now it's become it's it's now it's different if you're if you're tennessee and you want to get rid of jeremy pruitt anyway then okay. Let him get caught up in that recruiting scandal. But if it's a coach who you really wanna keep. I mean certainly basketball there. Nobody is mean. Kansas is pretending that the stuff that's on the fbi. Wiretaps is not the stuff everybody else heard on the fbi wiretaps at that trial and bill self esteem floyd in his assistant. Whose on the wiretaps still employed and so on. So the question is edwards. Has he reached. Heaven reached bill self status so in antonio pierce you're saying they think they can pin it on these three assistance. These three assistants are gonna talk the and they're gonna tell them all about antonio pierce so i really don't feel like you can hold onto him forever but if that goal is to like well we think we're gonna have a really good seasons delicious wedge it in Before we fire anybody else. I yeah i guess you take that strategy and and just hope that the ncaa is own incompetence prevents you from getting any serious sanctions. I guess the question that is going to be what. What would you find as serious sanctions right now. Also scholarships. I think the what's the one thing that you like. I don't even think bowl bands necessarily have that affect anymore. You're gonna miss a ballgame for one year. oh well But if you come in and start taking away. Significant numbers scholarships that can set the program back for years. It could have but the key is like it hurt. Usc because it was was thirty and three years. I mean. it's some significant number. It's not for scholarships each class or something like that and again. I think one of the things that needs to be sorted out here is what exactly. What exactly is the. Ncaa going to be to pin down on this. Because you know some of this. From from what i've heard is was handled in cash now there. There's documentation we've also heard on a few other things. But how is that Gonna unfold as we had reported at the beginning of this Mrs feels like six weeks ago. Herm knew about pla recruits being brought to him on campus when it was a dead period because cove it and i think the fact that it was a dead bird because of it when you talk to other people around college football. I think that there's a lot of stuff that goes on hit. And i'll use the term in the gray area. We're throwing out the gray area but there's a lot of stuff that goes on that people inside the sport are kind of like well even if you get caught at that it's like how egregious is that i think the dead period in during cova did was a different ass was was kind of a different threshold for a lot of people And so we'll see. I mean again. I think people are pretty cynical about this stuff at this point you and i have talked plenty about what a scandal is it. Are we going to look at arizona state completely differently than than if this went on someplace else and there wasn't the salacious nature because a lot of this is kind of has leaked out because there have been so many aggrieved former staffers arizona state and as you said about the three young assistance especially if this is the end of their careers I don't know all three will speak. I imagine of at least one well. But i think there's going to be other other Staffers or former staffers. Who are not on that staff who i think from what i understand will gladly speak to the ncaa about this. And that's stuff i think. Asu has to be especially worried about just to be clear if this were normal times. Twenty eighteen twenty nineteen. I don't know that people freaking out about that they had brought in recruits during a dead period when they shouldn't have or some unofficial visit got paid for. You know those are those violations But i mean we've seen i want to say comparable like for instance you know florida gotten a little bit of trouble last year for Dan mullen being in a at a high school when he shouldn't be. We see stuff like that and just barely makes that was also that was a show cause he has a. What do you have a six month show cause or whatever the length of it was i mean this. This is a coach. You gotta show 'cause but it's also as coach got like a one point five million dollar raise in the wake of the show. 'cause so i yeah these things don't happen in a vacuum in this one is entirely You know this is entirely about happening. During cohen and and at a time when everybody was trying to be super super cautious and not break their bubble in their football building and they were clearly not paying attention to that and bringing in recruits and their families from the outside and the and it was so brazen that like when you ever see david shaw. Being quoted on the record about this rhyme les deed expressing his disappointment. You know you'd never see that especially on this early when it hasn't even fully been vetted yet so because of that we know. The process is completely arbitrary from one case to the next. There's no consistency in the punishments. If they want to make an example out of you they can make an example of you. I think to your point if they can prove this stuff they are going to make an example of asu. Because they're gonna wanna show how seriously they take health and safety. This was a pretty blatant disregard of that..

I think it was a combination of that. And just being so approachable Were some of the other guys. I don't necessarily didn't feel that. I'm not saying wasn't there. "Everybody assumed that was a thing that was that wasn't done until i got florida state. That was not a thing that was ever spoke spoken of or said to me on the way over there now by my body gets they had plans for that later on. That was never there and that was. It was an opportunity in which say that time. I had seven job opportunities at that time. It was what i saw a man. And i knew before i had to be a head coach. There was some things about coach. About and i i was around him to death. I never coached with him on his staff. I knew i wanted to get that those years of experience that i had a bunch of job opportunities to be coordinators even some nfl job head. Coaching jobs in college. I knew i wanted to get a couple of years under him. Just how he actually did it on the day to day basis could see it even better and to be head coach and it was like a come on still back on where we all started because i was always a florida state. I love on the family. I grew up Going loving florida state. I know as a kid and being around it and play just became a florida state. Fan an incoming over avenue and i seven job. I always say this and it was by far i. It was the least job opportunity. I ever had my money wise. It was probably three hundred thousand dollars less than any job. I had office doing at the present time. And i went and i always tell kids. There's always still young coaches this don't ever take. I mean you know we make the money will make tons of money but when you you gotta be ready for the guy and was another piece of that puzzle. I had to have. And bobby bowden was the and i had to finalize to learn how to be a great head coach and i wanted. That piece of money wasn't a part of it. It was about the people you around. And that's why. I was so fortunate as a young guy to be around. Bobby runs terry. Rerun jeffey around. Tommy and that whole family teach me how to coach in. Put the things in how i wanted to do things and how they get things that i that and that's how i still. What type of pressure did you feel. Taken over. Florida state coach. Bowden when you knew okay. I'm giving ready to get this job big shoes to fill rigging new legacy of what you had and what the expectations were for him. Being there i mean thirty. Four straight bowl games. I mean they went fourteen years in the top five. No one had ever done that. Fourteen ten win seasons in a row. And that's when you're only playing twelve games with the ball game. I mean no one had ever done that and so the expectations were high. Pressure was high but like you said and always remember him. Saying this buddy. If you're if you're doing things the right way pressure is not a problem if never a problem for you because if you believe in yourself and he always said that you've got to believe in yourself believe in what you're doing and be able to get it to your people and don't worry about it. Don't worry about the outcomes and the results and you know it'll it'll work that way working it out. And he always used died and everything ever did and he was like duma fisher joining us right now on the goodyear hotline texas head coach. We talk about the life. And the legacy of bobby bowden. Who passed away sunday at the age of ninety one so you take over his head coach. You go on to win a national championship at florida. State and twenty thirteen for. What was the conversation like that you had with him when you were heading to that championship game and then after you won that title. Aoa he bobby was a guy who delegated authority. He was a guy who if he gave your job. And you know it gives you some peace. And he saw something they're adjusted. It made it he he lets you do your job and they always say you've done a great job. Just keep doing what you're doing. Don't let anybody and he said don't don't do anything different. Do what you do and do what you do. Well and don't worry about it and you know what's funny. Everybody always say. Bobby always told me back in the eighties. If they know understand someone you take this job. I'm not gonna come around for a while. And i i understand. Because he had said to me. I heard him say it back when i was when i was in those conversations in the eighties and nineties. He said when i get done. It's not right but the other coasts come round and everybody would be asking questions and the greatest thing one of the reasons we had so much success and and i had constant conversation with him on the phone we would call. We always used to sit in his office and have conversations with our team. Chaplain used to hear some of our conversation. Sometimes it's amazing. It would just give me wisdom you know. We have our long conversations sometimes long believable memory history. The was was unbelievable and laid. It was crazy but you know he. He says i don't want i don't want everybody saying well bobby didn't do it. That way. so we would have turns of conversations. Privately have a call just like we have one month months before he gets talked after but he said but you know i want you to be able to do it your way. It's unfair old coaches to hang around and everybody's saying well that ain't the way that's done anything he said. You gotta do it your way. And that's what. He told me that. Nasa jamshidi say. You've done it perfect girl year. Don't change a thing he said. Do it your way what you believe. Trust trust yourself and go and that's what he always was he delegated and he trusted people and any any always get he got away at talking to you. That gave you supreme confidence in yourself. Head coach jimbo fisher texas. Am head coach. That is national championship in two thousand thirteen for the florida state. Seminoles joining us this morning. Keyshawn j. will zubin coach. You you coached onto to bounds. Obviously bobby florida state. Interior sanford along with arben. How problem was was coached by of his two sons to be able to coach division football. I mean unbelievable the day all five tommy. To and tommy. Tommy was a coach near the great job. Tom is with us at auburn. I mean they. They lived eating brief football. I mean they really did. I mean they talked constantly. I mean it would be on the phone. Bobby bobby saw something. They they'd be on the phone each other. And and and terry talk about terry coll bob and now he had to act was they call him and bobby would get. He would get the answers immediately. They talk constantly. that's why they did about academy passing academy and they would sit there and we're going for two weeks. They were sent to every night at night. Just throwing and catching balls all day and then talk and ball all night. I mean bobby was extremely proud of giving kid rally successful. What he did was under. I mean remember with. Gary won twenty games in a row with all twenty games in a row. It was unbelievable. Tommy had tremendous success at tulane and and clemson and then jeff was a tremendous assistant. There's always with him and terry always together like say they were always on staff with me. He was my office coordinator. When i played and terry was the head coach and called place and I mean but in bobby every ev- bobby had an off weekend..

"I'm Jack presume that this is anything is possible and were coached. And we're talking to coach Dave Wannstedt, who was a football coach for 40 years. Coach. Welcome on Honor Day, have you? Yeah, Thank you, Jack. It's It's great to be on break to be talking sports Great to be talking football. Your niece talk Trying times. I think it's it's definitely definitely needed as much as ever. Let's go back to your childhood in Baldwin, Pennsylvania. Talk about your childhood and your mom and your dad, please. Sure. You know, I I come from a big family. I'm the oldest of six. My dad worked in a steel mill jnl steal back there in Pittsburgh, and, um it really was in town. You know, we're about six miles outside the city, but we were close enough. When I was a kid before I went to school, I would go out and I wouldn't white at the white the shirt off the windshield of the car. The mills back, then were running 24 hours a day. Three shifts a day. And it was it was your typical Pittsburgh steel time and A sigh got older. You kind of came to the conclusion that you were either going to go work in the steel mill. Or you're going to get involved in athletics, and that was going to be your way out. And I remember sitting in a booth, the Naples, Florida when I was coaching the Dolphins. And in the booth was we were Mike Dick, his restaurants that it was Mike There was Joe Nemeth and Marty shot. All of us were within 10 miles of each other in Pittsburgh, and we were talking about this exact same thing that You know that football back in western P a football You know, the names are endless. Obviously, the Marinos he always thie, not always Marino's thie. Joe Montana's You know, Jim Kelly's that the list is endless of players that have come out of there, and we all kind of agreed We were just talking that If it wasn't for football, you know we would get would get 8 10 12,000 people to a Friday night game and it was the event in that in that part of the done and for the country and It was our way out to go get an education somewhere and go from there. What's the biggest thing you learned from Mom? What's the biggest thing you learned from Dad? Oh, it would have to be the work ethic, you know. I mean, you know, my dad. Obviously six kids. We had a three better Maas until we made the garage. My bedroom. We blocked it off, Put a little portable heater down there and put a sink in. And then that was it up to that point. We had six kids in a three bedroom house. And you know, but there was always food on the table. My dad worked extremely hard. My mother worked a little bit on the side to try to help make ends meet. So I think that, um you know that mentality off not taking anything for granted. Having to work hard to try to overachieve at whatever you did whatever ability you had. I think that's just something that that I grew up with in in our household was was always talked about. Speaking ofthe sports being the way out. You went to University of Pittsburgh have played offensive tackle from 71 to 74 talk about those college years. Yeah, it was me. That was fortunate. I I had some opportunities coming out of high school and you know, I was way in the West Virginia's in the Miamis and buy some offers, and I decided to stay close to home. And it kind of a funny story. The school I really liked was West Virginia and I love Bobby. Bobby. Bobby Brown was the head coach at that time. And the pit cultures. Now I look back on it. They convinced my high school coaches body body is not going to be a West Virginia very long. He's gonna win and he's going to leave. And so my high school coaches, we I want to pay. And sure enough, I think it was one year after I was there. Bobby Bowden one and he took the Florida State job. So that was it was a great decision for me, and I got a chance to play a lot. And we want some games by senior year We actually went to a ball game, which was the first time in about 10 years and we had his teammates were Tony door set. You know it. Johnny Majors came in and took over the program My junior year, so I got a chance to play for coach majors was one of his first captains. And then eventually why I got into the coaching. It was because of his the opportunity he gave me. So it was a great experience. I got my education. I played football and obviously met had some great relationships. Offensive tackle in college. What did you weigh? You know, I'm embarrassed to say I weighed about 2 45. That was points was big. I was drafted late by the Packers and I was up in Green Bay after my senior year a pit and we had one player on the team over £300 at the Green Bay Packers. There was a guy named Mike McCoy out of Notre Dame. Yes, that's very glad he was the only one everybody else on the team was under 300. And now you look at it and high school kids are 300 by, you know, it's this. It's crazy the way it's changed. Um, we're talking to Dave Wannstedt coach Wannstedt. He was drafted by the Packers. As he said in the 15th round pick 3 76. What was the signing bonus? Oh, it was enough for a new car. I think it was about $6000. So I know I got a brand new car out of it. I was happy when I was a strike here, So I was up in Green Bay, and it was really difficult and we were playing a lot because the vets weren't there. And then were playing the Dolphins and I got I got hit and required some surgery, and Dan Devine was a head coach. That was his last year at the Green Bay Packers. Then he might have went to Notre Dame. After that, I believe But Yeah, so I came back and rehab dependent. And he got let go. And now I was in Bart Starr got hired and I was kind of debating going back there. Couple teams in Canada Want me to play? I've got married at a little child on the way. And I remember Coach Major's called me in and said, You know, what do you plan on doing here? And I basically said, Well, you know, see if I can make it somewhere may be and if I can't don't want to get into coaching. And he said to me well, he says, if you want to get into coaching, I've got opening a slot open for you. But I've got to know here by liking too much, because once we start spring practice that's going. I got to get somebody. So I wait my options and the Packers really weren't pursue me. They brought a whole new regime, man. And you know, it wasn't like it was when when I was up there and So I ended up taking the graduate assistant.

Former FSU coach Bobby Bowden, Arizona’s Sumlin positive for virus

"Saw a notice notice in about an hour ago, the media started talking about it. Legendary football coach Bobby Bowden has now got Cove in 1990 years old. That's tough. I listen, I am a Miami hurricane. The rivalry with Florida State. I can't stand the Florida Gators. Sorry, but one just my personal There are a few football teams. I just can't deal with Steve Spurrier ruined me for the Gators. But I will say that I've always had nothing but respect for Bobby Bowden, not just what he accomplished, but how he accomplished. I thought he was a class act. He always treated me very well when we would go to his coaches camps. And 90 years old Covert. 19 says he feels fine. He'll see how the next day the next couple of days work out for him, You know, to bring it a little closer to home. I just read it was just reported by Tyler Drake in our Web team. "Tune in next time for another edition of Inbounds or Out of bounds With Tiki and Tierney playoffs tomorrow. Teak, We get the baseball playoffs tomorrow. Yes. Here we are. I know we don't really We don't really talk about this a lot, but it's also the place where they actually played tomorrow. Is that tonight? Let me see they played on Saturday night. You know, it's tonight. Tonight. Game Sunday night off tonight. Yeah. Game Sixes is today Tampa in Dallas on reason. I know this because my Co host or my play by play guy when I did the Miami Ffu game. TJ Reeves is a Tampa guy. So as well as we're calling the game call it affects you at Miami, Florida State Miami. He has like his laptop up with the Tampa Bay game on Because it was game. It was a close out game for Tampa kind of losing in overtime, actually, double over three to something like that. Yeah, it is 3 to 2 and double overtime so, But once the F s U game became a blowout, once Miami would started blowing about him. He was kind of painted tea into the kind of half watching the game. He was doing a front because at that point, your giant whatever they like A bug was in our best of Bobby Bowden because Bobby had some injury, an issue with some spots sunspots on his leg and he got infected. Got you. You didn't like talking about the history of the burning C d. You know, I have it from a guy who's been in a radio booth for a lot of lopsided results would say John's over the years. Yes, yes. You better know how to fill. That's right. I get it. It's like right out of the radio show. They're up by 30 Correct, direct, but with the hockey that's that aspect of more we got Four games, Astros twins, White Sox, A's Blue Jays and the Rays Yankees Indians Gerrit Cole, Shane Beaver, That's a sick pitching matchup is start. That's going to be really good. I don't believe the ayes have decided on their guy. Giolito is going to go for the White Sox Greinke for used in My ETA for the Minnesota Twins, and Ah Jin Ryu is going to go for Toronto Blake Snow for Tampa, So we'll see what that yields and obviously baseball's managed to plow through their 60 game season. Which is a major victory for them huge for them because I didn't think it was gonna happen. I thought at some point he's going to get permanently stopped. We'll think about the way it was going with the Cardinals. At one point, everybody was like had played like 10 11 games of cards to play two or three. Yeah, Phillies got shut down. Yankees had to get shut down for a week, not because of the Yankees, but because of Being in proximity to other players who mean why that they got through. It is a miracle, and I got mean looking through it like everybody played 60 games. I know I don't know how they did. It had a doubleheader seven innings. Let's go. LeBron.

Va Tech's Ty Outlaw to Play in Sweet 16 vs. Duke After Passing Drug Test

"Here force Virginia Tech intends to play senior Guotai outlaw has been charged with marijuana possession against Duke and ENC tournament Friday unless little headline on their hokies coach buzz Williams announced in a statement that outlaw took a drug test before the team left campus on Wednesday, brick Sweet Sixteen showed in Washington DC on Friday, the test came back negative, prompting Williams and athletic director without cop to allow them to play. Now when was the original wrestle outlaw was charged March twenty first the day after he and the hokies arrived in San Jose, California. That's when he was charged the twenty first. So let me get this straight again. That's neither here nor there. Let me let me get this straight. He goes out to California and get pinched for wheat, which he knows. He can't do it against the law and Virginia Tech season. So he plays in the games already. And then they come back to campus. Five days later twenty first twenty second twenty third twenty four twenty fifth. And then they test him. And he comes up negative for marijuana in assistant. Well, I've been around the block for a little bit. You know, maybe in my forties. But I did go to college. You know, I was a high school. Participants. There are stuff out there that can ask. Let's just say these marijuana tests will leave it at that. So if Regina attack was so diligent in what they were looking to do and make sure nothing was wrong. They don't test outlaw on the twenty first twenty second twenty third were twenty four but then test him on the twenty fifth. Now, what sense does that actually make? And let's back it up here. It's not because he's still chart. So it's gonna be, you know, corden fines, and whatever it would be unless the charges get dropped. Who knows? But if you are Virginia Tech, what does this say though, honestly like one of your players? You're starters. Got arrested. While you were out on the west coast came home. And you tested him for Weeden came up. Nothing in his system. Scratch my head a little bit on this one. What what was the outcome that we were looking for here? So he had the weed on them. But it's not his we'd he was going to give it to somebody else. I. I don't know. I don't look on. And look if you're betting Virginia Tech, if you won't Virginia Tech to beat Duke. It's fantastic. It's great. And you know, if I'm a head coach, and I'm a booster. I'm a fan of Virginia Tech. I love this outcome, Jack. Yeah. He minutes. Six six four, please. He's a three point shooter. We need all hands on deck to beat Duke. He's gonna play take the old, Bob. Bobby Bowden, Florida state approach dadgum it. We'll just have that boy run some steps. And that'll cure everything. I hear you on that. But this is what does the clean drug test have anything to do with him. Having weed on them though. Allegedly. What happens if he's selling wheat? I don't know. We're just didn't get a chance to smoke. It yet. The fact that he was caught with it. Charged with it. What does having? No, we'd in your system even have to do with this. So if you crack cocaine to high school, it was in your pocket who knows what you were going to do with it sell it smoke, it give it to your best friend, you get caught and charged. You can't play that Friday night football game because it's on Friday. But then they just test you for crack in your system. And if you don't have any it's all good and you can play. What did I miss? I'm going to get it doesn't make any difference to me of outlaw plays or doesn't play tonight for Virginia Tech. And none. But I don't understand the concept of well. We tested in for weed, and it wasn't an assist them. So we're good come on man that test the guy could just said, hey, we're going to let the court case, you know, take take its roundabout through the system, and when he gets done, and if these guilty or has to pay a fine or goes on probation or nothing happens will advise in will carry out some sort of thing, neck, Johnny. This is. Administered. Make sure if he's a. Check here. See his greatest. I think he's a senior. Because I know you had a lot of hard times there. Virginia Tech couple injuries and stuff. Let's see. He's a senior. So let me just play it off like that. You know what I mean? Coming back next year. He's gonna play it out, and we'll let the legal system, but the whole sham of hey, man. Look at us. We're doing the right thing. They got picture we but has no we'd in assistant. So it's all good. Stop man's stop. The mates is hearing set for

"Not available in every state. Rick last hour that caddy thinks everybody worked up. Crazy. Lincoln Riley is I say this. He's a little like, the Sean McVay of college football is that he sees the world offensively from kind of a different view. And and I said this couple of days ago. I went back and looked at the two quarterbacks he had at East Carolina. I don't know them. Well, but their numbers were through the roof, and we've had this throughout the course of my life. I'm in my fifties. Now, Don coryell saw the world differently and changed it a Bill Walsh saw the world differently and change that Sean McVeigh, and I think Lincoln Riley falls into that class is that he is doing things. Bobby Bowden told me this years ago? This was years ago. He said, you know, and I'll do a dadgum Bobby Bowden impression when I used to work in Tampa. He said, you know, I'd stay up. I'd stay up. Not watch those Oregon games, man. They were doing crazy stuff. I get my Pat out not steal all their stuff and back, then it was like chip Kelly. Mike Belotti were doing I was covering Oregon. They were doing different stuff offensively. And so that we introduce Lincoln Riley. Who I'm just sucking up to hear coach thanks for coming on the show. Thanks for having me on calls. You've done a remarkable job you've made Oklahoma. It's very interesting because we were talking about Cuyler Murray. And I think he's a first round pick. And I think he works. But I do think that historically even college in high school coaches you'd ideally like to get a guy who's six feet six two six three. I mean, that's why we have these prototypes for left tackles and Mike linebackers. But but Cuyler Murray, there is an interesting thing here, he does not get the ball tipped at the line of scrimmage is that your offense, you're spacing. Or is that kind of a gift Cuyler Murray has? Dr Benson gift. I think it's very epic one one of the things, you know, so many people tried to compare Tyler and Baker. And I think that's one of the things that they have in common. They both been short all their lives. They both played quarterback all their lives. So they both have just a and they feel to be able to still throw balls over the middle. Not get balls. You know, find the lanes creative arm angles all of that takes to and it just doesn't it just doesn't affect those guys. And I think until somebody really coaches them in the trenches with them day in and day out. Like, we've been you don't really appreciate it until until you see it. But you know, we we have never had an issue with that here with either one of those guys, and I don't think the Browns at an issue with Baker and whoever draft Schuyler won't have an issue as well. One of the reasons I was not a huge fan of Johnny Manziel to the NFL the transition or RG three thin thin body frame. Now, I did say baker's kinda thick and he's just throws a great ball. Russell wilson. You see him in person? He's thick hips shoulders. He's thick. Keiler is not you know, forget the height. He is. He's about to old five could I not be concerned a little bit that he does he likes to run, but Mitch Trubisky does but Mitch Trubisky is a pretty thick kid. Could I worry about Cuyler being small ish prototype body? No, no. Here's why you those other guys enlisted, especially Russell Wilson being maybe the comparison. I mean, athletically, there's there's no comparison to this guy. I mean, this is like this is like Barry Sanders running with the football as a quarterback. I'm not saying he's as good a run, very Sandra's. But the the guy that has lead speedy speedily quickness and as a feel for not taking big hit twenty runs. He just he he took many many even though he ran more than Baker. Did he took away way less hits? Because he is. So athletically, gifted that he can just he just boy. He just doesn't take big shots. And he's smart about it as well. Did you expect him to choose baseball or football before his decision? Did it? Did he ask you for advice? He did. I don't know that had an expectation on it. I knew after talking to himself that he really loves football. And that that was going to be tough for him to leave. But I think also he wanted to make a good decision for his for his future too. And not just as passion. But I think it got the point where he felt like it was the best for his future. And also the though in a way for him to chase the sport that he was probably the most passionate about his dad was a quarterback at am. There was a weird interview on Dan, Patrick. We didn't talk a lot. I did not love it. I said this it I wouldn't care generally. But quarterbacks I kind of see as a leadership position. The I was bothered by that interview that that he just kept turning to his dad I understand in the quarterback world. And I've heard this from Pete Carroll, and college coaches dads, often play a significant role. Dad was often a quarterback son becomes a quarterback. Should I that interview dad was quarterback? How am I not worried about that a little? I think the toughest thing in that interview was he hadn't made his decision public yet. Or maybe even completely made up his mind and Cuyler very very thoughtful methodical guy, you know, can get a guy, you know. Of course, like bakeries that you've seen verbal spit. It right back. As you know. Well, yes. And Kyle different. You know, a little a little quieter a little bit more methodical. And I think he'll certainly try to be careful about what he says. And everything what Tom has been. So you know, there's been so much scrutiny around it and so much engine. And so I think now that you know, the world knows what he's gonna do. He's let it out. I thank you know, people bills his personality more. But I got no concern about him being the face of a franchisor leading a franchise. You know, it's interesting. Jalen hurts has joined you guys as a grad transfer and interesting about transfers, and this is where I differ from the media. I do believe that college athletes should be able to transfer. But I believe once I think listen part of college sports is decision making my daughter's a college student, and I tell her, hey, I'm not there you be. You be careful when you go out with your friends be responsible. That's part of growing up. I think kids can make a bad decision. Choose wrong school coach leaves. But I don't like. Multiple transfers can I think it puts stress on universities the system, and frankly coaches, what do you make of the new portal? Did this kind of new narrative that the media loves which is kids should just be able to transfer whenever they want wherever they want. I'm concerned about it. Honestly, I do think there are some benefits and support this. I think coach is not being able to restrict players go. I think I totally agree with that. But I don't I don't like the fact that players especially players that that have not graduated can transfer somewhere power lawyer and then find a way to become eligible. I don't I don't like the message. You know? I know the big argument has been well coaches coaches were able to go from school the school with a couple of different things. One coaches are professionals we had to go through college and all that to get our degrees to be able to coach and we had to go through the steps to become a college coach. And then every coach in America that has any more than a multi year contract right now as a buyout. And so if you leave there are ramifications for breaking a contract and these guys come in on scholarship. They're on a four or five year contract with that scholarship. And so I just I'm not saying they shouldn't be able to leave. I think players do deserve rights. I do think they deserve a choice to where to go. But I think there's gotta be graduate. I think there's gotta be some type of ramification for for changing. And I think that's because of you know, right now, we're teaching them something that when they get to the rest of their life in the real world. It's not like that. And we're teaching them. You know, we're giving them. I think a false impression of what the real world is really going to be like to these guys. That's really well put and I totally agree Lincoln Riley, Oklahoma, Sooners head coach, they have always been a power. I'm in my fifties. There's very briefly been times when they weren't a dominant program. It is interesting. You're on the big twelve there's a style you got to play in the big twelve and then you get to the play offs, and that style sometimes maybe not a perfect setup to play a Bama or a Clemson. But you guys have pulled it off. You always look the part. I wanna go to you're going to get mentioned for NFL jobs. Urban Meyer has been mentioned save. But even in his sixties was mentioned, I if I was your age, and I'd say, you know, Lincoln. Winsome college games have some fun. Oklahoma's one of the great jobs in America. But I do think you as a great offensive mind. There will be times in your life as you're young, man. Now, you're an aspirational guy. You don't get to the Oklahoma coach without big dreams. Do you envision a time seven eight nine years, perhaps that your your worldview changes in you'll want to be challenged against the world's greatest coaches? That's a good question. I I don't know. And it's not one I spend a lot of time on right now. I know I don't I don't feel that right now. I mean, this is a mental like you said, this is one of the great coaching jobs in all sports. And I recognize that we've got so many big things ahead of us here that I don't want to ever say never. I never wanted me to get says, I'm never gonna do it ten years down the line. I changed my mind and decided to do it. But I'm I'm very happy here. It's a good fit for me my family. I love what we're doing here. And I think there's a lot of things about the college game that I really prefer right now. So I'll never know down the line in the in the short term, your I'm very very excited and active here, by the way. I don't hate Baker. I put him on my show. I thought he was a riot. I love I find I find him absolutely fascinating to watch. And by the way. You you don't know this. But I was told by an NFL general manager is the reason he moved up the charge because there was some concerns about his size and some of the field stuff a little bit that that they thought he was so well coached. At Oklahoma under you that he would go to the whiteboard. And I had a GM say he was so far ahead of the other quarterbacks on the whiteboard. And that momentum started a lot of the Lincoln Riley talk. So that that's what I was told by a GM that he was so good and so well coached so I don't hate him. And he's a. A fun guy to watch. But I will say this. I gotta ask you this. When you look at a quarterback, he was a walk on. He wasn't big enough. Give me one or two things for our audience as as one of the real progressive thinkers in football Keiler is five nine and a half five. Ten Baker was a walk on. What is that? You look for in a high school quarterback the well, what is everybody thinks? Well, he's big and he's got a big arm. Is there an it?.

Back in the college game, Chip Kelly focused on winning at UCLA

"Chip Kelly was gone to the different chip Kelly. When he left college. Football is at the top of his game, maybe not a national championship, but he built in Oregon program that was. At best good into a program that was excellent. And the second he likes citing top and very innovative. And then once he left and then Marcus mariota stay for another year for Markelle Fultz another couple years, whatever it was that whole organ thing, just kind of fizzled and they're, they're good. Again. They're not great. They're not, but good unions, the great Younis great facilities on he's a UCLA now piece in ESPN dot com. Talking about him and his approach, and it'll be interesting to see how it goes because I don't think anybody really cares how peculiar he is long as their winning games, but you can only be peculiar if you are winning and he doesn't really go for anything that isn't the film isn't really the players isn't really the game and college football. You have to have a little glad-handing go along with this unless you're just even Nick Sabin glad-handing little bit. I mean, that's one of the issues that lane kiffin had for years is he. I wasn't great around the people that he needed to be great. You know the the raw raw stuff lie the glad-handing, the the important handshakes that you need to make. That's not one lane kiffin does. May I always find it ironic that people would talk about how great he was as a recruiter, which means you're great in a room. I'm willing to believe it, but that also means you're only good in a room with very specific people like once their age extends beyond nineteen, right? You apparently have no social skills and chip Kelly is one of these guys that just seems like he has. He's he's almost like a football Rainman. Yeah, you know what I mean? Like he, he just he's one of these guys. That's a football savant. And in his lane, he's a genius. But if he's six inches outside of either side of the lane, he's just painfully uncomfortable. Yeah, I, I've told the story before when I was living in Houston and working there, they have the Lombardi awards where they bring in people, and there's a coach of your word, and there was a panel of all these guys and they. I mean, Mike Sherman was head coach. Texas a. and m. at the time, Bobby Bowden was there. There was one or two other guys in chip Kelly was there as well. Kevin, someone was there who's at Houston at the time. And all these guys get up and and do a ten minute speech on their program, and they're all great. They're captivating. They'll be room is laughing. Everybody's listening. They're good with their timing on the jokes. They're good with telling the stories, boom, boom, phone, like a comedian. That's got a really tight little said ten minutes in. They're often everybody's throat. And then chip Kelly comes up and it's like things everybody coming out and went and sat back down. Again. It was like, we will. What they lights come on this big banquet room and people start moving towards the coaches. Thanks, autographs, and all this kind of stuff. And Kelly practically ran for the exit and it's like, wow, he must be on this whole time. I thinking you don't good of a football coach.
