Tomorrow is July 1st and Mets fans, come on, you're not new here, you know what Saturday is. It's Bobby Bonilla Day. The 59 year old former player Mets will collect a check, an annual check for $1 .2 million from the team and he will collect that check through 2035. burned That every penny of it. He hasn't played since 2000. That's some Tom Keene money I'm waving to Keith over and hi Keith. Wish I was down by you. I'm looking at this this and sets up Otani next year and Otani every time he shows up is making this harder and harder. I'm sorry, it's not $500 million, it's going to be a big number. This guy is super duper and I know that's all cliche. I haven't seen anybody like this guy ever. No. I don't know what you do from a compensation perspective. Bobby Bonilla, you throw him $5 million every year. He's so young, he can do it up to $3040 .50. I know, I don't know. Literally it's going to be just two or three teams that can even consider it. Are they allowed to give him equity? I don't know the rules, but I don't know not. why But I think that's kind of where you're getting to. I would think you'd have to give him equity in your regional sports network if you can't give him equity in a team. I don't know. You're going to have to get creative here. Well, that's kind of what they did with Patrick Mahomes. They gave him a little bit of equity. Yeah, I just think, you know, I'm glad you mentioned Mr. Bonilla. How did he do with the Mets when he was actually playing? shrugged I just my shoulders. I mean, he's great. He was a very good player, but like a lot of those big ticket guys didn't live up to them. "The great came to a long time. Puppet team. What's up, Ken? How you doing? What's happening? Go for it. I know what you want to do. Go for it. I haven't called it to a sports talk show since I was ten years old. I had a calling. She calls it. Did you schmooze overnight with Steve summers? What you're saying, Ken, did you do that once? And the fan? No, some local New Haven states. Okay. All right. Okay. Okay. Okay. Go for it. What do you got? But I just had a call in today. Just having worked on the show, you know, good chunk of gears. I was able to observe Christopher brockman pretty up close. And I've noticed over the years that whenever New York sports teams are doing well, Chris starts choking Gatorade in large amounts. I think this deep hatred is blind him to the reality situation with Daniel Jones right now. Because the G men are on the upswing. And Danny dimes is Eli Manning two with speed. And I think Chris is dreading that. And I don't think I don't think Chris has ever gotten over the Giants beating the Patriots twice in the Super Bowl. By the way, this is very, I think, appropriate and accurate, mental dissection of Christopher brockman as you referred to him. Ken. He's taken all comers right now. There's some somebody in Portland, Oregon offered him a free steak dinner. If the Giants do not make the playoffs and win a playoff game next year. You want to do it? What do you think? The public service announcement to Chris. Chris has got to slow it down a little bit before he gets too many bets before he gets involved in too many bets here. I don't think there's I don't think he knows, by the way. I think a BSA, a brockman service announcement that he is rejecting. It's not for the public. It's for him. It's for him. And Chris is arguing about Daniel Jones with the low numbers in terms of career touchdown passes and total wins. You guys got to realize that the Giants had the worst offensive line for like the last three years when Daniel Jones first couple of years. He was running for his life. So and he's finally got some protection now. They got some good draft picks. You know, when he started to drop some dimes here. So they're going to get some more guys coming in and get some receivers. So they're on the upswing here. I hate to tell you, Chris. All right. Do you have anything to say to Ken? Numbers don't lie. Numbers don't like 12, a 21, 31, and one. As a starter. Eli two with speed. Mac Jones is a 16 and 15 tennis on a pace for 11 more wins over the first four. It's not singles tennis. Great response, Kevin. I love it. All right, we miss you, Ken. We miss you. We'll check. We'll check soon. Thank you. Longtime rich eisen show producer. Phil and Oklahoma. Let's take your phone call. What's up, Phil? Hey, rich, long time listener first time caller. Where have you been? Where have you been? Shout out brockman. Mister del tufo best producer in the biz and TJ got to give you guys a low shout real quick. But so I feel like I'm losing my mind, rich. And I feel like I'm going back about 16 years because that was the last time that the jets were in the running for a big first ballot Hall of Fame quarterback. And he came along and things looked real good there for about ten games and then it kind of went downhill if you will remember, right? I know that you're a Jets fan as well long suffering. So I see we've got two players. We've got a first ballot Hall of Famer, old timer, Twilight of scree, maybe two to 5 more seasons depending on his regimen and then the other we've got a generational talent, 26 years old, Hall of Famer or not a Hall of Famer, but has been named MVP before. It looks like the second coming to Michael Vick, I know he's at injury issues, but I'd say we pay Lamar and we have a franchise quarterback on our hands. I see flashes of far of an Aaron Rodgers and it scares me. So you would give up the 13th overall pick in this year's draft and next year's draft and pay him 200 something $1 million, set the precedence for the league. And be damned. You're fine with that. That's the hard part. That's given a lot. What about the fact that he hasn't finished the last two years? You got a problem with that? But I mean, Victor's ACL when he came back and he lit it up with the eagle. I mean, after prison time too, so. I really feel like if we pass on Lamar Jackson, we're going to regret it. Could be that Rogers comes in two years, does big stuff, but I just, I feel like Lamar Jackson deserves to be paid and I don't think there's collusion, I think that's been a sort of crazy narrative, but I think Chris canty had something when he was saying on ESPN that's crazy that no one's really looking at him because I think he's a generational talent regardless of his only start at 24 games. Thanks to call Phil call back first time long time. Hey. People are conflating the fact that he's been franchised tech that the ravens don't want to pay him. You already heard that they will pay him if you will traditional top of the end market. He might wind up being the highest paid annual quarterback in the league. It's just that they won't guarantee every last penny, just like the bronsted. Hey, and you want to talk about regretting a contract, how about the browns paying deshaun Watson every single penny? You said they're going to have to redo the deal. Is that what you said? It's possible they could restructure. I thought I read that yesterday. Why would Sean Watson do that? I already restructured the team out. Oh yeah? Okay. Then why would he? This is from Mary Kay Cabot on March 5th. Deshaun Watson opened a contract restructure. So already, one year in the contract is being viewed as unworkable. And he's going to agree. So it'll figure out how to get it all at some point by putting on a credit card down the road so they can mess with the salary cap. Yeah, first graph deshaun opened a restructuring over the next week to help the browns get under the salary cap, clear some space to add quality veterans via free agency. So he chooses Cleveland over everyone else because they pay him in a certain manner and it's with one year in already been proven that it's unworkable. And so he's going to do them a solid. Yeah, just push it down the line to first some cash. Probably not hard up for it. Nope. Fascinating. Jimmy and San Antonio always great to chat with Jimmy. How you been, Jimmy? I'm being. We're great. Hold on. To you. Oh, better for talking to you, Jimmy. That's right, my bad. Hey, man. Broccoli, we got Mbappé and Messi Champions League on now. So keep an eye on that one. Let's go. And then what are the browns going to do? Pull off a Bobby bonilla and all of a sudden. Maybe Watson's going to get money for years.

Markets are now bracing for another 75 basis .8 hike from the fed next month and you can blame it very clearly on that super strong U.S. jobs report from last Friday. We had a spike in yields across the US Treasury curve a two year now at three 23 a ten year at 2.82%. So we do remain inverted. Nonetheless, I mean, with that move up in rates, we're going to have a little bit of a challenge for equities in the apac region. We do have a stronger dollar as a result of those higher yields. The Bloomberg dollar spot index was up 6 ten to 1% in New York on Friday and we are building on those gains right now. The end quite a bit weaker, we were down in New York trading Friday by one and a half percent against the greenback right now trading one 35 15 thereabouts as we get set for trading in Asia stock

the big money issues in the world of sports on Michael Barr And unlike lynch and here's more from 13 time all star and Hall of Famer Ken griffey junior I want to get a sense from you How you advise players who are coming out of well it wasn't shortened but it was kind of disrupted season because of the lockout You were in the middle of a monstrous season during the 1994 season and the subsequent strike but the way you conducted yourself clearly you were a favorite among fans in the league as well A lot of people say that you helped restore MLB's image after the 1994 labor dispute How would you advise players to move forward with some of the after the strife of the last couple of months Just be yourself Just be you You know the business side of sports can be somewhat ugly sometimes but you don't have to be ugly Just go out there you know if you smile you smile don't change who you are because of a business decision I love baseball I go out there every day If I go out there right now I would but it's being 52 I'm like maybe Then it goes one hamstring Maybe once a week then that's the best But I still watch it I still root for guys You know just go out there and be you You know it's not about how many autographs somebody signed It's not about there When somebody you know a fan says hi you could say hi back Don't cost nothing to say hi You know There were some more players typically happy even if you don't have time to sign an autograph to smile and wink on a wave I've had a full conversation while I was at the plate one time But it was a next teammate's wife who said hi to me and I said hey how you doing How's the family How's their in chief looking at me going He's having a conversation with me I end up getting a home run at the back but we won't talk about that but I feel that fans are there to enjoy the game Every now and then you get the rowdy fan But for the most part people are out there wanting you to do well and wanting to see a good game And I think that for me in 19 health because I was a kid and they were like well we can't really yell at them too much I did have a guy in Boston by the way 5 tickets behind home plate Well the on deck circle and in center field And like after year two like when I was at home play when I went to hit he'd be there When I go to the outfit he'd be there I think it was year two maybe three I finally turned around and was like hello He was like that's all I wanted I thought that you had a twin Like y'all were just messed with He was like no I just wanted you to say hi to me That's it That's kind of laughing But you know like I said most of the people that come to the ballpark want to have a good time and enjoy the game but there are some people that you know push it to the limit We just have to there's not that many of those We just have to celebrate the ones that want to come out there and watch the game that they love I mean because I tell people all the time I'm not going to spend money on something that I don't want to watch I want to go out there and watch these guys perform at the highest level You're not playing right now but you're still on the reds as payroll When she this is something that Bobby bonilla knows something about isn't it No no no See that's not really See those are missing form numbers Okay please clarify That money was already set aside When I deferred my conversation it was already deferred And now I'm just getting it now But it was already smart It wasn't like the Bobby gold in the year I would give you you're making one point whatever and also in terms of the 30 That money was already over there Final question for me Ken When you think of Jackie Roosevelt Robinson one word give me one word when you think of him He wrote that guy but the man even though there "Great. We'll see what Joey Gallo is. So I think that they kind of remind me of the Red Sox where the potential is there. It's just, I don't know if they can do it consistently enough. The scary thing for me is if they are going to win, they're going to win hitting the baseball, right? Because where those guys are on Gallo, Rizzo. Yeah, go on. They can get stand judge. Thank you, dawn. The Jays, obviously, they can hit the crap out of the ball too. The Red Sox are designed to win games 11 to 8. And in a division full of teams that are also trying to win shootouts, I can get a little rough and the Red Sox probably have the worst bullpen of the three teams. That is the one thing I'd say the Yankees have definitively over the Red Sox. They have a good question. And that was the irony of Sunday Night is the Red Sox bullpen outperformed the Yankee bullpen. Not by a lot, but enough to make a difference. By the way, it sounds like Aaron judge they're not going to extend them anytime soon, and he's going to hit free agency. You know, why would they? Teams don't extend good players in Major League Baseball. Apparently, except the pirates out of nowhere cabri and Hayes, the first time ever spending money. I love that deal. Smart deal by Pittsburgh. Good for the fans to actually get to see a player hit the age 30 in their city. When's the last time that happened? Joey Votto, Cincinnati. I was saying in Pittsburgh. Oh, in Pittsburgh, a boy, go back to the old, the lumber company days. You have to go back that far. I can't remember last time. Even when even in Barry Bonds and Bobby bonilla days, they didn't extend their players, obviously that's why Barry Bonds left for the Giants..

"Kerry Price is halfway through. Now at age, thirty-three just turned thirty-three like last month at his current state. He's only halfway through making 10 and 1/2 million dollars a year off. Good for him, he's got what he's got the bag but also you can't fire a guy after they take you to the Stanley Cup finals. I mean it's just horrible Optics know it's just but it's tough especially now because with covid-19 up with what that's done for League salary cap. We don't know what that's going to be. He's got a, a full no-movement Clause through him being thirty-eight years old making 10 and 1/2 million dollars a year, which is a substantial number, but some point to pull them down, it may not be now, but, I mean, it might be now like, and that's and it's tough to say that off of them during the Stanley Cup. Like, it's weird. Sounds weird. To say, I understand that well, he might next year though. But at some point, you're going to need some more guys. Really this roster is not enough and when he's making 15% of your Jeep hit. It's problematic. Yeah, it's an albatross of a contract I think. I think we could very likely see it only get worse and again 38 years old is what they're paying him. You compared to juice, press got the Cowboys quarterback in the NFL, has the guy who's very good, but you still need to get him help. And I would argue these massively overpaid. It's, it's a guy who despite his value clearly, he's obviously, if you overpay a really good player, you can't give them help. Therefore, you can't win as much. I mean, you do still crippled your team, even if he's a good player. Yeah they've sent a couple of bad contracts. They they they took on Montreal, Shea Weber's is one of their defenseman, one of their benefits when he's he's I think Petrie's our best defenseman but he's a good player and he's on a he's making almost eight million dollars in his cap hit. He's 36 right now. Oh boy, they're paying him. Almost eight million jobs. Like in fairness, they, they went on a run like, I guess if you're the GM or like, well we risked it for the biscuit, we didn't win at all. But you feel kind of good to like hey you can justify it by saying we went on a run, right? Yeah for sure and Iraq. Now you on the consequently those consequences that you're not paying between price and Weber, you're paying two guys who are see them out of your salary. They said they're those two guys alone are making over a quarter, the salary cap off and they're 33 and 36. When so Shea Weber he actually signed this is another conversation about cap, he signed a 14 year 100,000 Ten million dollar deal with Nashville. This was back before they were caps on term and teams did this because they thought, if they, if they signed such a big contract, just kept hitting, the NHL is wage is, you know, the number divided by the years. It's really easy. It's that's your cap. And it's 210 / 14 that 7.8 and change. That's your yearly, cap hit. So teams are thinking, okay? What if we just signed Guys, these wage is ludicrous deals that they're going to retire before they get to the end of. So we can bring our yearly cap hit down. And the player says wait up. So making a ton of money. Sounds good and I'm doing a fun game and so it sounds good like you can sign me. Send me for 30 years, find whatever bring number down. It only helps the team if we do that. Yeah, so like when you use you pay them less money in the short-term to extend it out like crazy idea in the middle of Bobby Bonilla. Yeah, exactly..

"Dot com. More on that coming up here just a little bit, But the Fourth of July is not the only holiday we celebrate in the month of July. Let's talk about Bobby Bonnie a day and that is July 1st. That is when the New York Mets pay Bobby Bania $1.2 million every year for 25 years straight. You hear about this? The New York Mets Gabo near the option of a $5.9 million payout when he retired from the Mets, or he can take the 1.2 for 25 years while he chose The 25 year. $1.2 million payout Here is former Mets GM Steve Phillips on MSN Sports. Bobby Bonilla. We were going to release him and instead of paying the 5.9 million ownership, said, I wonder if we can defer it. The idea was Hey, Steve, go to the Accounting department and see that if we pay out a certain level of interest what we make off of Baniyas money, if the market to this or did that or bottomed out, you know what would it take? How would it play out? It was an investment vehicle for the team. They make money on his money, and he still get the benefit of it. Sweet, sweet deal for Bobby money. He still receives a million dollar check every July 1st, right. How do we get a Bobby Bernie? A deal like that? Maybe not as much. But we continue to get paid after we retire. You know, just one of the things that people want to do. In retirement is to make sure that they have some type of guaranteed income stream just like Bobby Bunny. In his playing days. He made a lot of money playing baseball every year. He knew he played baseball. He get paid a nice big chunk of money, he'd be able to support his family support his lifestyle. And then it got time to where he was getting up there in age and you decided that you know, it's time for me to retire company to stop Playing baseball professionally and like they said, they could give him a lot. Some payout, which some people get that option. So you know if you work for the north of Grauman's of the world ups, I think still has a pension coming in a lot of companies that have pensions. Sometimes they offer you these lump sums, which is essentially what the Mets did for Bobby Bonnie. As I said, Hey, here's a lump sum, take this money and walk away with it. War. You can have this money in, you know, a deferred income stream, which is what a typical pension is. And so when Bobby Bonnie a thought about the numbers in his head, you know I can get $5.9 million right now, and I can spend that money. 5.9 million is not going to last me 25 years. Pay me a million dollars a year. There's just no way for that money to grow, and that's essentially what he did is he turned that money into an annuity, and that's really what they're therefore And if you think about when you're working, you're getting that income stream. You're getting that paycheck every two weeks or every month or every week. However, you're getting it. Every single year that you're working. And then when you retire that income stops because I'm not working anymore. I'm not going to pay myself an income. But I've done all of this work. I've saved money inside of my 41 k f save money in my Roth IRA, I've saved money. This Birdcage account. How do I turn it into an income stream that I cannot live? And that's what Mike and I do for our clients every single day As we sit down and with our class, we figure out how much money they need to have to live on in retirement and People are always asking the question. How much money do I need to have? It's all release Objectivist as far as how much income you want to have. In retirement, and what we do is we take this retirement nest egg of what you have, and we really split your assets up was set aside money for income, so that just like Bobby Bunny? Maybe not just it's a big thing. It's a big paycheck. But, you know, just like Bobby Barnea every single month. You can have the income that you need coming in $19,000 a month. Whatever That number is. You have the income that you need every single month being deposited in your bank account. So you know exactly how much you can spend and then everything else that you're not sending aside for income. That money can be out there. That money can be as aggressive as you want it to be. Or as conservative as you want to be. So right, Let's talk to our listeners out there. That person that wants that Bobby Bernie ideal that wants to continue. That paycheck they had while they were working. What do they need to do? Mike and I love to call that our retirement income analysis and for the next five callers that have saved at least $500,000 or more for retirement. I want to extend this special opportunity for you guys to give us a call 866597 10 48 66597 10 40 for the next five callers Come in and sit down with micro myself personally and well, put together your own custom income plan for you and your spouse so that you won't outlive your money in retirement, And we do it absolutely complimentary to you just starts by. "Bobby Bonilla you'd beat. But Bobby Bonilla day here in New York. The Mets still paying at $1.2 million a year. 1.21 point nine I think it's 1.2. That's going out to 2023 or 2033 or something like that. Um, but I love that Stevie Cohen, the new owner of the Mets, he's kind of like he's embracing it. He's putting up Social Post and It is what it is. Yes, It was a horrible deal, but it's a great deal. It's kind of keeps you relevant in so many different ways. Bobby Bonilla Day here in New York, were now joined on on the phone by Jim Duquette, former Major league baseball general manager and MLB network radio host. Lots of things to get to Jim. Welcome to the show. How you doing? Dickie. What's going on today? All is well What? Give me your take on this Trevor Bauer situation. He's on administrative leave for seven days. I mean, it's we don't know what's happening between consenting adults and we shouldn't speculate. But Major league baseball. Probably. I mean, they had to go this route as you think it was the right thing to do. Well, you're right. They had to go. They had to go this route for sure. Until they can. If what this does is, it buys them some time to get more. Evidence is, you know, obviously there on a search for you know what actually happened, and, uh again, I don't even know if if they'll get all of it in the next seven days, but it buys them some time and And you know you can't you can't have him starting You know his next start, no matter where it is, but, you know, it's just, you know, in D. C. Wherever it does just, you know, so I think it's the right column moving quickly and effectively. So I think you know, the league has put a an emphasis on and so so of other leagues, but the major based on particularly domestic violence, and how serious it is so This is in line with. I think those policies yes, It definitely does. I mean, you couldn't. It's just a bad optic. Even if nothing was going on. What does this do? If this does get extended to the Dodgers? Rotation. Obviously, they're sitting now I think they're half a game back. Yeah, there half a game back in the West right now that the Giants have been unbelievable. We'll get to them in a second. But what does this potentially due to the Dodgers? Well, and it's an impact full of a moved if he's out for an extended period or the rest of the year. Um, you know, they they have enough rotation depth. Where they could still make a run in the you know, in the division and make a run in the postseason. They did that basically last year without without Bauer, right, so, you know areas Kershaw Bueller. Those Those three are good enough, but At some point. If they don't have any type of clarity, they may have to go out and make a trade of some kind for another starter. You know, that's one thing at the deadline that you weren't thinking he needed. And you might now based on top of what's happened. Yeah, No, it makes it makes a lot of sense Are the Giants for real? I mean, I don't know if the expectation was where they were. I mean, there won 50 games already. It's not only anybody saw this coming is this Is this sustainable for them? Wow. You know what, Kiki? I'm telling. Yeah, I have I have. I still think they'll end up being 33rd place team in that division. But I mean, you know what they've done with that club and you know, with on one year base one year basis, their starting rotation in particular Power numbers like that. I think that's what surprised me more than anything. They have done a really good job over the years of revamping pitcher's careers getting them to, you know, to have big seasons and then they ship them off in a trade or whatever it might be, but But the offense has never been this good. I know they moved the fences in a little bit. They have a really good game plan and the power the power is legit. Like if you get to the halfway point, and you're sitting there is one of the best teams in leaked. That's real. So, yeah, I'm buying in now you have to. I mean, they got four guys with double digit home runs, you know, under Strunsky and Ben Brandon Belt, Posey. Brandon Crawford's got 17. I mean, he's right. I mean, I never thought of it was that kind of guy? Yeah, I want whatever he's at whatever he's been eating, drinking what I want, because that's impressive what he's been able to do. Now. I hugged 100% agree with your talking to Jim Duquette, former Major League baseball general manager. MLB network radio host as well, You know, I think you know, there's there's a lot of things good things that are going on. In Major League baseball. They got a little bit overshadowed by the sticky stuff situation, I think. Fortunately, that's died down and now in and it hasn't become as big a deal as Like that first couple of days. I thought, man, this is going to be you know what show for a while. Um, I'm actually surprised at calm down, Are you I'm surprised that it was. I thought it would be. I still see things that I don't want to see. You know, a certain nights like I'm still seeing like the starting pitcher just pitched his tail off for seven innings. And they've already checked them twice during the game. He's walking off the mound to a standing ovation. And you know at home, and then they got to check them again. Right in the middle of his ovation. You know the course the fans are going to boo the umpires. So? So I'm seeing like stuff like that. That you know Guy just got lit up for three runs. You know, in a home run clearly the guy the guy should have been used in something. And he wasn't. Yeah. You don't have to check him. He he was terrible. Yeah, Luckily, like, you know, Think about this to your You don't perform well, and now they they're going to check it to see if you're cheating, like yeah. That just doesn't sit well, at some point picture is not going to have the patients that they've had so far. Yes. No, I think I think you're right. But but it makes me ask our guys still trying to get away with it..

"I thought so fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more. It's time for the pocket. Protector century the analytic numbers. You need to know well. Maybe anthony masterson as his name. Bs analytics is his game. What do you got for me anthony. I know people keep talking about shohei otani. But i really don't think we can talk enough about what he's doing the season it's made even more crazy by comparing him to his peers. Let's pitching surpise. Great obviously to fifty eight. Era fifth in the american league. Better than garrett. Cole and tyler glass now. His strikeout percentage of thirty three point one percent also fifth better than lucas g lido opponents hitting one eighty eight autumn. Better than yu darvish including an absurd. Oh eighty-six against his splitter as a hitter easily not only to show. Hey lead all of baseball extra-base hits he's only behind vladi junior and fernando. Todd s- junior opie and slugging. Going deeper he leads the league in barrels and barrel rate and his average exit velocities only behind guys like judge vladi a kunia and machado while his heart hit percentage. The number of it's above ninety five miles. An hour is only behind judge. But that's not all. He's one of only three players this season with twenty homers and ten steals joining totti's and kunia and he's a sprint speed of twenty eight point nine feet per second. Anything above thirty is considered a lead faster than guys like what airfield cedric mullins and trevor story. Plus he'll be the first japanese-born player and first pitcher in the homerun derby in a few weeks in colorado. He's a unicorn he's captain of the varsity team. He's literally doing all money into more money. Now it's time for betting on the basis with dave guess guy love that money that money rob. We got some interesting games over the weekend. Fridays menu looks awfully good dodgers or in dc against the nationals padres and phillies from philadelphia. And the mets and the yankees. I know new york. The mets that is they've been led by jacob degrom. He's not pitching in this ball. Game on friday they're going up against garrett cole though they been laboring as the late yankees only a couple games over five hundred. I'm not gonna touch them at all this weekend series games that will be looking at first off. I'm looking at the angels and orioles. That game is in anaheim. I'm taking the angels in this one. Shohei ohtani continues to swing a red hot bat on taking the team in that affair. Taking the giants there in arizona it gets the diamondbacks. Alex will be thrown for san francisco in that context. And i'm also taking the chicago white sox. They're on the road against your lowly detroit tigers lance. Lynn is on the bump seven three this season. Era two oh six. I'm taking the white sox and the victory in that one as well pay cash. It's time for trash. Talk twitter wing with your chance to trash anyone or anything in major league baseball. When rob was a newspaper columnist he lived by this motto. If i'm writing i'm rippin. Let's bring in a writer. Broadcaster older new i. Now let's welcome to the program brandon. Carr who is a content reporter for mlb bro dot com and. He has a piece on the website today. July first of course is bobby bo. Nia day brandon. Welcome to the podcast and tell us for all the people who don't know why today is bobbi baena day. Could they say it's a special day especially people of color for outsmarting a million getting one over on the man so bobby bruyneel Back in nineteen ninety nine. He was old. I'm gonna say almost six million dollars. But due to the mets being involved with bernie madoff find schemes. They didn't have the money to pay them so basics like oh man we just work a deal get you away from us man you over one point. Two million dollars Starting in twenty eleven for twenty four years and we give you eight percent interest rate or whatever so they use thinking you know the cost on price inflation or whatever may be down. I mean i'd be up or whatever so it's like a gamble and he's like you know what i think they're doing. Whatever long story short how. He's one of the mets are highest. Paid player still. He hasn't played baseball for the nineteen ninety nine. So it's a gorgeous day for black baseball players. It is crazy that the mets could make a deal brandon where they owe somebody five point nine million and instead from twenty eleven to twenty thirty five. I mean this is twenty twenty one. He still has fourteen years and on july first year. It's going to get one point nine million dollars a year. I who who in the world could have come up with this idea when you when you do your research and you were writing your story about this. Did you scratch your head and say how did this happen or give all products to say about it here but which is agent. I think his name was like a demon gobert. and hopefully. that's his name and He he had coding office and he was just working out in the negotions. Whatever with the organization he was like you know what compensated with here and he was down for the for payments. And at the time you know it was it's not really new for players of that magnitude and a half of furry payments. But like i said he was like you know what i'll take it. It is what it is. I have the money for the future. Honey right now has some money. When i'm old man and like i said this can't you're rich and he looked like agendas right now. So you gotta give it to him and give two days and there's no doubt about it. I may not see bobby boondi. Every so often at all star games and see him around always has a big smile on his face and for good reason because anybody who could broker a deal like this and and still have another eleven years to go is pretty amazing but thanks for that piece on.
