"Let's move on, and they almost got tagged for it. Spain and fit Sarah, Spain. Jason fits on ESPN radio. We're talking to college football news dot coms, Pete few ATTACK ABOUT WEEK one of college football. Let's talk Notre Dame Florida State. Notre Dame gets the win. Brian Kelly is clearly frustrated. Makes a dumb joke doesn't land pretty forced, but also, what did you take away from them? And the fact that they let Florida State back into that game? It was a great joke you with the line? No, he didn't get set up for it. Though. Contact. It was a great joke when you get set up for you can't deliver the line and the punch line or to or to deliver it in context. Right? Right. Uh, well, also that I have never, and I've seen a good Jillian's football games in my life. I've never seen a prevent run defense before, And that's kind of what Notre Dame seem to figure out how to do against Florida State, but You get again long game, You know, it looked like that was over. It looked like Nordin had it and again, you know, this thing is kind of dragged on and on and on and for the state just didn't have to go away. The running game was working. But give a little credit to the Seminoles in the Michael revolved. That's what his offenses did it. Memphis the They have a little more past the game that they've got there right now. But if you remember that's where you got the Darryl Henderson's I'm you know, to a cervix San Antonio Gibson, but not really, but they had Also, it's a great running back to tore off big dashes after big dashes. That's what that offense does, and if they can do that, all of a sudden, there's your identity, and that's really what you want to see if you're a Florida state, and obviously it stinks to lose that game in such an emotional heartbreaker when you obviously the Bobby Bowden, tributes and Mackenzie Milton coming on the field and everything that was around that game just set up still perfectly. For some sort of storybook mathematical ending, But it's Florida State. So of course there was big weight was wide left. But of course, there was a mis kick that at the end of honor, Bobby Bonds, but it was. Look, the running game was great. And if you're Florida State fans, you're really fired up right now that Yeah, Okay, I see it. This is how this is going to work going forward. Pete. Who do you think we're overreacting to the most after one week? I still I'm still gonna I'm a power five snobs, So I still think since then he's being way overreacted to. I do think the one team that we're going to know a lot about really quickly. Iowa State. I know Northern Iowa's and others, which is a rivalry game and Iowa's They didn't play that poorly. They just couldn't seem to score but 16 to 10. It's not really what you want going into the Iowa game coming up and Now this matters now The pressure is on Iowa State. They've got a real team that's supposed to do big things. And yet Iowa was awesome for the 1st 25 minutes or so against Indiana and just kind of coasted on from there, So let's see where Iowa State does, and I also think we're overreacting, and it's going to be really fascinating to see what Washington does. Because they couldn't run the ball a lick against Eastern Washington. I'm sorry, Montana in that, uh, surprising loss on Saturday night and Michigan. They look great against what Western Michigan and so let's see if the Pac 12 can get a win back because Washington was supposed to be one of those teams that was going to content to the Pac 12 title, and it's still might But it's got to get it back. Really, really quickly. That's a lot better as a team, and it showed Be sure to read him. College football news dot com is where you can get to him, Pete Few tech as always, we appreciate your time. You're inside my friend. Thanks for hanging out with us. Hey, town. You guys have a great night. Pete was brought to you by Goodyear making the place that move you forward Goodyear more driven. In the meantime, we did a fantasy draft last night and because we know some fancy people, we got our teams. Graded. Find out how field Yates thinks the two of us did specifically excited as well. As for you. Plus, I had two plays I told you to make over the weekend. They were both right. I'm gonna brag. We'll do that. Next benefits on ESPN Radio. Are.

"Whenever i was going through something you know my one of my one of my favorite coaches was at the start was Had dallas williams. Who played you. Know you know indianapolis. He played. I think in a little bit big time. But my record with von joshua joshua but joshua play with all of the great hank aaron and willie mays is you know all of those Very bobby buzz to hear him. Say hey man keep going you. You remind me of a young. Bobby buzz in me being a baseball historian and baseball guy of understanding knowledge of the game like man. It's mad magic. Said i could be like sir. Bobby bonds those you know you keep that vision and your head. He worked on it understand that no matter ups and downs as you go through. There's a chance you gotta be some special and for me coming grains georgia eighteen around a little soaking wet six one hundred and seventy pound guy. I had to grind. I had to get it. I had to go and work my butt off every single day. Just to get the little time that i got i was i was gonna say my your it has to be the greatest moment you had in two thousand and two with the mariners. When you hit the four home runs in one game what was what was that like. I mean okay. You hit one. No that's great to do just seeing the ball better. What was it that day because not too many. I think only thirteen. God's in the history of the game of done that what made you that day be able to go over yard four times You know the the best way. I can describe it is rob is the fact that i was able to get into this zone where we feel like. You're feel very good at the plate but you don't feel very good at the plate to get four balls up in the air to hit him over the fence and everything has to be perfect in a sense would take place I'm fortunate that jerry manuals pitches because we beat them. Fifteen to fifteen four also homerun pitches Well you know. Jeremy was a manager so he could he could instructors. Pitcher could pitch me right right but the fact the fact that they're having so you remember me and bret boone. Todd record because we hit back to back in the first inning alone so it was already a good day for me. Everything else was gravy. You know two homers in the first any. That's almost like saying like fernando talkies. Julia day hit two grand slam in the same inning. I don't think that every everything has to be live. That's no great stuff man. We appreciate your time. Yes man. I could sit here and tell you all day about everything kind of all kinds of things. I love it though. I love and appreciate you and i'm going to get you back on the podcast. Okay inside the park. Thank you all right it. Thanks what's my beef is.

"Alaska. What's having a friends. Welcome to thursday's show more than studio mani according to a new study. But why do you think people are late to work the most. Oh well They slept in. They always say traffic. Oh yes i mean. This is never an excuse for me because if traffic makes you all the time that means you need to leave earlier because traffic is always gonna make you late yes right. We're on the same page. Yes but sometimes traffic is bills up random day and you're like ooh random day being late that's not late always. According to a new study. Bad traffic is top reason. People are late on average people relate to work about fifteen times a year. Day if you're late to work over five times a year because the traffic you need to give her. It's slightly larger window but probably you're not even that late because of traffic you say traffic because that's what you can't prove wrong if you're commuted longer than thirty five minutes the odds of you being late to our triple compared to a shorter commute time this increases even more if you live in around a major city. That's my pet peeve pepease and the post show the other day but everybody's on time on the show it is great i have taken clay molded it in my image. I i look at you guys. And i'm just proud. It has no strengthen its arms that kangaroo doesn't know how to fight you get you're gonna get a kangaroo. That's gonna kick you with his though i may get a kangaroo. That's a baby. We're just drawing a new in ruby. I'll look the kangaroo stop. I stand by tom. I said what i said. I can beat up a kangaroo. They took boxing. That's why they put him in. Like actual boxing matches Yeah okay. I hear what you're saying. I still. I still think i can be kangaroo. Appreciate the call. All right buddy. See later i. Here's the voice mail we got last night book barebones and at the end on page one eight. There's a spa. That i thought bobby would like to revisit. He says i love arkansas razorbacks. I love austin texas. I love my dog food. And then i have to blink. Thanks for marrying me and makes me the happiest ever. So i thought the only you married now you can sell it in with caitlin. Let them blink. When i wrote that book everyone can write it themselves. What everybody who bought bare bones. You fill that in if you'd like. Hey thanks and thanks for reading my book and if you guys are trying to get it it's up on amazon just it's it's called barebones. It's kind of the story of my life. And how i got to where i am now. Although i did write that about four or five years ago things change so your story hasn't shaved deluxe version. Five years mastered remastered. It is time to open up the mailbox. You sending something we all. Bobby's mailbag Bobby bonds. I recently took a new job and have been given a warning from new co workers. I guess my boss is still a baby inside. It's really upset if his employees don't make a big deal out of his birthday. The guy has to be at least sixty that crap. Stop being imported to me in college. Why should i spend money in. Make a deal of someone. I barely knows birthday. Just because he signs. My paycheck is it. Just me signed haley. I get being annoyed by. I'm just gonna talk from the perspective of someone who has also been trying to move up in their career allied. Sometimes you gotta butter the bread and people who who baked bread. Don't even like you know. Yeah it's stupid but if it's important to him all almost all decisions in life personal and professional are made based on relationships. That's the fact of it. You may think. I'm the best person for the job. Not even to pull out of the situation on the best person for this job. I'm the best person unless you have a relationship with the person in a way it's going to be hard to get that job or unless you're creating a relationship so if you want and i hate to say it because it sounds like a real db but if it's important to you to maintain good standing with your boss at this job. I would do something for his birthday. I feel like she said it herself. In this the one sentence where she said why in the world should i have to spend some but some money on someone. I barely know because they sign my paychecks. Break their paychecks. It's it doesn't matter to you and you think i'll just get another job if this doesn't work out then that's great. I believe that's the line that you draw and then you have to. You have to live in die on the hill but just in general almost all decisions are made based off of relationships period. So good luck what you do. Is you get a couple in. The office are also annoyed with it. And you going together and you get a gift that what you're spending less money beginning something just as cool and you're all compromising your values together and isn't that what it's all about. Yes or could you do something that requires no money in like right them point gates at. I don't even know the baby she says. Yeah yeah he definitely wants some cool okay. Yeah he wants like a putter is sixty. Yeah putter will be good for this guy right here all right. Thank you for the email. Haley and i hope he learned something there as well. That's the mailbox close. It up now was founded on the show. Right now is in oklahoma vo. What's going on with you. Not much i just wanted to ask. You think it is okay for female to jog down the road or she was jogging down the road yet fake shirtless. Nope no problem. No nothing. I'm talking about topless. Yeah so my question is was she doing it on purpose or she running from something. I guess it was hot. I guess it was hot yesterday and she was just. Jogging starts overheating cigarette shirt off. That's all. I can think i'd be surprised. I've never seen that before up. Indecent i don't know is no no not really because in listen what's the difference in a man's nipple and a woman's right difference. I mean if we really break it down we're all. We only think that women's brush shouldn't be shown because we've just been told that how come a guy can take off his shirt and it's like all either but of woman does go crazy. It's only because society has sexualize the breast.

"After a fine nineteen year career in the major leagues started off with the atlanta braves. Eight seasons there and then eight with the dodgers one with the giants and finished up two seasons with the oakland a.'s. And of course he won a world championship with the dodgers in one thousand. Nine hundred eighty. One was in the postseason eight times and three times in the world series including those memorable world series and seventy seven and seventy eight against the new york yankees when reggie jackson hit three home runs in that one game. He spent ten seasons dan as the giants manager and in his very first seasons kind of set the standard for himself giants one hundred and three games in his first season. They still didn't make the playoffs by the way. Even though the one hundred and three games that season that's the highest for a rookie manager and nationally history and he took the giants of course in his last years their manager to the world series against the angels where they lost and that was in two thousand and two three times. He was the national league manager of the year. And only tony. Larussa has one more in tony. Larussa once said of dusty baker when it comes to game situations and managing and adjustments. When i think about you I really think about you in terms of baseball. But i also think about you in terms of being a man when you think about the baseball aspect of dusty baker and the man aspect. What's the correlation between the two of them. Well you know you'd like to think they're the same but basically a lot of times. People are different between the year. Job and You personally i mean. I try to stay as consistent as possible As far as what you see is what you get You know try to remain as basic as possible not of areas but realize that the you know that everybody including myself and the and the world is a very complicated. you know state of mind so I the correlation is. I guess You know both like to win on the field and not to field and like to win As often as possible. I every time if possible but you know not at all costs which to me is Sort of a dilemma. Every once in a while understanding the business of sports the business of baseball has it always been easy has difficult to always be dusty baker the person and no not at all i mean basically a i mean it's hard you know to be independent and remain yourself the You know baseball man. And and how a company perceives you or wants you to be at the same time. It's very difficult but You know you try to do. What's right You try to do was morally right. Do you know what you think is right in your own mind. You know higher raise right in the eyes of guy too at the same time but but realizes the business and the trying to do right now is of god and is of man. There's always a conflict there because you know whenever there's a dispute or a dilemma There is person. I talked to business. "Line. Ironically, and, um, you know, he was able to keep that ball fair. Is it down and then change up and That's a very difficult pitch to stay inside and through and when it when it went up. It looked like it might be a foul ball within it just completely straightened out from the dugout vantage point. Um and carried and we kind of got the feeling that it was going to be a homer. Yeah, I think we all got the field. It was going to be over the second, he started walking up the line to first days. Barry Bonds style. One more here from Game capital. I think about cap where all the time and all the moments that he has spent in the big leagues and all the great teams. He's been a part of you think about the The 2004 Red Sox game capture was on that roster when Big Poppy shouldn't walk off home runs against the Yankees. Down down three. Oh, he's on that Red Sox bench when Dave Roberts steal second base, and everybody in Fenway Park knows that he's going to steal and they still couldn't get him out or help. Assad is still looking for a for a sharper throw down to second base. Pretty damn pretty damn good throw, but Dave Roberts barely gets in there and and Moe didn't hold him on his as well as maybe he thought he would. Everyone knew he was going and he was safe, anyway, Cap. We're talking about the emotion of This game in his career, saying that as far as games he's been a part of or wins. He's been a part of this one ranks up there as far as feeling good emotionally. Yeah, certainly. Right up there. Um Any any come from behind. When's feel similar. I think this one had an elevated sense of of joy and excitement. Because you you know, we had a Grand Slam home run that put us Put us ahead and I think you know all of us route so hard for you as you prepare so well And he's out a tough season in some ways, and I set you up with some injuries, Sacrifices body for our club, so probably one of the reasons it was gratifying. For all of us, and to your 0.1 of the more exciting victories that we've been a part of it is because yes, was the one who got the job done. And we're really happy for him. She called for this team, man. Somebody just checked in on the Cache Creek text line to, uh nah, I'm trying to find the the texture here. Oh, here it is, a 65 vote says, And for years, Yaz wasn't able to make the powerful stacked Baltimore Orioles 40 man roster that something is just so baffling to me. There were really 40 guys. On that roster for years that were better than Mikey Stransky. Sometimes it takes a change of scenery. Sometimes it takes somebody locking in on something with you to untapped something but Michael Shrimps. He has been a huge part of this giant success over the last few years. We got to take a quick break. We're going to come back with some of the great moments. Great comeback moments over Giants history. I just pulled four or five them here for us to float out towards you were talking. Bobby Bonds were talking Brian Dalam or some of the great big come from behind wins. 2019 Stephen Vogt. Some fun stuff. On my Jastremski is first career Grand slam that helped the Giants come back from a seven Nothing deficit to get a win last night over the Arizona Diamondbacks..

"74, will you let me see what happened that I seem to recall a home run of certain significance? No, no different than any other year. He had six off of May. I think in my career, uh it was just, uh It was like playing in the world. Syriza You know, everybody in the world came to see Hank Aaron hit 7 14. And I didn't let him down. It was You know, I think Vice President Ford was there. But kun was there. They're all kinds of people were there. And it was a packed crowd. And I thought everybody is pulling for the Reds until I went three and one and Hank and everybody, not everybody, but a lot of blue boots were coming out of the stands. And I backed myself into what I call upon. Uh Uh, My mind just went blank when an obvious pitch situation and I threw it and he knew is obviously coming because he hit it over the wall, you know? I am. Uh, there was no The only thing I didn't like his first swing in the year, and there's two men on and I was down, read enough and in the first any but I tell everybody that didn't last long because You're gonna have hours later Sit in the clubhouse and we won the ball game, And that was the main thing. Absolutely. I talked with Marty Brennaman on the show last week about this. He he mentioned you and I get the sense He's giving you some grief. Every now and then. Over the years about that home run. Is that true? Well, Yeah, But what was he doing here? Sitting up in a comfortable here doing what? He does best running off the mouth, you know, s so you know. But he doesn't know anything about being on a baseball field being an athlete, you know, so But whatever Marty and I get on each other all the time, but He ought to be happy. That was his first year, his first game. I mean, how much more exciting can you be? Is an announcer and making, you know, bringing up 7 14 to tie Babe Ruth's record. The first thing you did about that, you know But I'm I got him on the road. Tol Holla fain Think about it. It's a great way to look at it. You know, it's funny. You mentioned I looked it up today. You actually you gave up five home runs to Hank in your career that ties for the most with five other guys. I'm gonna give you the names. You ready for the names of other guys. You gave up five home runs, too. Ready? Oh, yeah. Well, thank you very much for looking at stuff. Willie McCovey. Yeah, People bad. Bobby Bonds. Me, mon Sunday. Yeah. Nate Colbert. Nate Colbert. Cesar Sedano on a new C C. Yes, he hit me pretty good and Dusty Baker. That's a pretty strong group. Yeah, I mean, there's nothing no shame and given up a home run to a home run hitter. That's right, and all those guys were home run in earlier on. Tell people there is no shame in giving up a home run to Hank Aaron. Back when we played You know, we had a respect for each other. You hit a home run. You ran the bases. And if you notice all the films You have on hanker and hitting home runs. He runs the bases that the same pace all the time, and he doesn't flip his bath. He doesn't give a fist nicest shot, but That's the way the game's changed that I'm not real happy about, but that's where it goes. A zoo. You know, we've sadly lost Somebody Hall of Famers over the last year, So including just last week, Don Sutton, the former Dodger, you were. You were in the Dodgers organization originally, and we're with Don, and obviously you then watched his career developed. What do your memories of Don Sutton Well, I played with him. I played with him in Albuquerque in a minor legs, and he was called up to the big leagues. Shortly after that. The thing I remember about him, and it's been in the papers, he grabbed a baseball. He's never missed to start to me. He was the type of picture that you would No. Well about He had a great curveball. But he showed up every day kept you in the ballpark and he was a good picture. He knew how to pitch. And when you control your second pitch for a strike any time you want to Which he could. Uh hey, we're going to be successful. You know you through. I think they said over 200 games. Hey, didn't miss the start and he pitched for 23 years s. So he's Mr Consistent, Nice guy jacking and looking at your your stats today. I've always had one season in particular. Jump out. It just boggles my mind in 1973. You made 40 starts. You completed 16 of them. You had seven shut outs and you threw 293 innings. Holy cow. Yet. Well, with Sparky Anderson being your manager. It's even more impressive. That's right. Because that was Captain Hook. Yeah, well, I don't know what happened that year, but I was on and he went with me as long as he could. And it was just one of those things. I just had a good year at everything going. But you know if if I had a good year The team had a good year and with the team I played with It made me much. He admit it much easier to pitch well, when you had the defense behind you that I had in the offense, so the confidence and Johnny Bench had a lot to do with that. You know, I was talking today with a couple of guys and they asked me about Johnny Benson. You know, we work very well together, but only through two pitches fastball in a curve ball, So we didn't have to be genius to figure this out. You know if I could put down one finger and I didn't want it, then he put down two fingers. You know what the best thing was, You know, location. I didn't have to worry about people stealing bases, and I didn't have to worry about Throwing the ball in the dirt when I was ahead in the count, because Johnny could block.

"Be here for you. My pleasure. The reason why I'm gonna call you that neighbors and talking about how Washington that team's gonna It's in first place. They'll be another team in first place Sunday afternoon. Or tied for first place are you think? Beat him twice. They beat him twice. Oh, you wouldn't division. True they would have a leg up in the tiebreaker. Very true. Good point. What happens if the Eagles win? Go now. The Eagles has one less. The Eagles has one less wind now. Right. But I'm saying if you're counting the giant win on Sunday, moving them into purse place because they had of the tie breaker over watching him, But if the Eagles win the Eagles with behalf a game ahead of the Giants and the Redskins or the watching the football was only have three games. The Eagles have three wins. What they have a tie. They only have six losses. Where is the Giants have seven? Well, that's not the very reason why I called him and I don't by the way. The Eagles are beating the Seahawks on Sunday, so I don't think so. Yeah, knowing knowing, nor do I think, you know, but you knew my grandfather. Who would that be? He was a while sitting very famous in the thirties forties fifties and even in the sixties. His name was I was named after his name is honest, Bill Daley. Yes, I do. Recognize the name is boxy, promote and manager and his biggest champ. He had chap but every division step for the heavyweight His biggest champ, We're getting calls for keys. Who is it all time, or yes, I do. Remember the sixties and fact he promoted the first. Game first fight ever as Shea Stadium. Will you watch the Garcia fight on Saturday? I'm not really you're not every day after the big build up of Grandpa, you're gonna tell me you're not a big boxing fan. I was more big when I was a little kid. Okay? Time to get time to get back into it. Bill. I appreciate your call. Good luck to the Giants on Sunday. Jeremy from here, Ease up on CBS Sports Radio. Yo, Jeremy. Hey, Joey. Happy Thanksgiving. Hope everything good with you and your family and all the guys that CBS. Uh, same to you and yours. Thank you. My question is who makes the decision. On went to cancel or postpone games due to the covert virus. No earlier in the year. Um, the Tennessee Titans, I believe correct me from wrong that they were playing the 40 Niners. They played without, like a dozen guys. And, um, I believe like last week or the week before the Raiders played with 10 without 10 to 12 guys. And as far as I know, just four guys for Baltimore tested positive and they can't win the game. So I wanted God. They got more than four. Now. Now, when they decided to cancel the game, they only knew about four. All right, But there were also guys who could have been because of proximity and tight and close quarters. There could have been more guys that hadn't tested positive yet that they fear could test positive but to get back to your original question. NFL decides they decide the teams don't decide the teams report their positions. They're positive tests. The guys who were in close contact and in the NFL makes the decision as to whether the game should be played it up. So how come how come the those like the Titans and the Raiders were able to play? I mean, I guess maybe it wasn't You know, big time players that were testing positive for those teams. But maybe I mean, they were probably in close contact as well. Why didn't those games get posted today? It's a very fair question and one that could only be answered by Roger Goodell. Do they actually factor in the importance of the player on the team? Or is it just hard numbers? I think that's the way it should be. If you're asking me Either you have the capability of playing the game. You have enough numbers. You have the guys on your roster on def You lose big time players. That's unfortunate, but that's not the NFL's world that your fault. That's the way I think it should be done. But I don't think the Roger Goodell has ever come out and explained his logic or whatever they have been placed. Toe officially decide. I think as a now we're just taking the commissioner at and thanks for the call. What? I don't know what happened. Your phone is, um, we're taking the commissioner. It is worried that he's doing the best thing for all teams. Involved. Richard and Manhattan's up on CBS Sports Radio. Hello, Richard Cody. I've been watching Thanksgiving games for 57 years, CBS, NBC Fox. Whatever. There's only one football game I ever remember on Thanksgiving Day, and that was a college game. 1971 Oklahoma, Nebraska 35 30 35 31 to Briscoe win They were driving down toward the end of the game and built Bud Wilkerson. A legendary Oklahoma coach was doing color commentary are never forgetting remark, Maybe the bread. Maybe Oklahoma should let the brisk scores that they can get the ball back and be the last team to get the ball and score and then they can retaliate. Of course, he was joking or half joking, but years later that became a common practice to let it team score. Sure. Anyway, Jodi what I wanted to say this Yankee team. I mean, they will surprise in 17, 4018 and 19. You could say the cheating and this and that. They aided. Ah, one third of a billion, one third of a billion dollar picture took him off their main competitors roster brought him on his roster. And they couldn't get by. Actually the first round in the playoffs. The not to play in round the first round. I would say this Yankee team I'm using two words was the most disappointing and underachieving Yankee team. Since the 75 team 1975 when they got Bobby Bonds that it was the year before. 74 burden led them to a surprising I think 93 wins. They got Bobby bonds and they commercial and they got catfish on to what a great 75 year and the Red Sox would win and Rice just swept the hell out of him and beat him by. I think 13 14 gets I mean, they had some underachieving teams. Or maybe you would say questionably disappointing teams in that made eighties when they had Ricky and this in and Mattingly and Winfield and Baylor And those guys, but they never. None of those guys won the World Series, either. No, but they didn't have pitching dead so they weren't really underachieving. They never had any good pitching in the mid to late eighties. No, they wouldn't. You never thought of him as being a threat because they didn't. But this team should have had everything at least to get to the World Series. Can you think of a Yankee team? That was this disappointing? You know, I've never contemplated in the context in which you're putting it as disappointing. There's some pretty disappointing Should I pick the Yankees go to the World Series so disappointing and My eyes for sure, the most disappointing ever underachieving they lost to a team What, one quarter of the tail and then looks down and stare and they left him during the regular season. They got killed in the season series E. This was awful. Understood. But Tampa kind of validated what they did by winning the next round and going to the World Series. So tip wasn't just a fly By the night date. They were actually good. We just didn't necessarily see a Children. It was a great baseball season and I'll tell you why. You had the two best teams meeting in the World Series. Not only that you had the two best teams having to win seven games series each in their league, they get their World Series. The only thing it lacked was a seven game World Series. That was hell. But I'll tell you what we spend in the seven game World Series. The fact that they're jerking of dust in turn. Is that his name the guy on the job. I mean, they couldn't even get that right. The Dodgers. They messed it up so badly, but But they got their championship ring recognizing soapy Abby Russell here..

It's kind of weird how everything we have an asterisk next to it, especially when you're talking about people going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or the Nascar Hall of Fame at this point. Add An Asterisk (MM #3492)

"The Maison with Kevin nation that was a big sports fan growing up in a kid now was used to hear about an asterik or an asterisk as Some people prefer being added to a sports record when there were changes. There was always an asterisk next to the Home Run records because at first Rodger marris had more games to get 61 home runs than Babe Ruth did to get his sixty and then of course in these steroid off there were astrix added to home run records by Bobby bonds and Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa have a feeling that 2020 is a year is going to be our year of the asterik where everything has an asterik attached to it. I was thinking about sports records this year where you've at home run leaders in baseball while they only had like, you know a quarter of the games they would normally play so naturally wouldn't have as big a numbers. It's kind of weird how everything we have an asterisk next to it, especially when you're talking about people going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame or the Nascar Hall of Fame at this point. They don't know if they're going to be inducted in 2021 or 2022 and we'll those classes be combined and how will it work? I'll try to figure it out right now put a big old a Street next to everything.

"Sports leader. Parley? Let's go down to Miami Man. Let's talk to Ah, California guy hanging in South Florida. Joe Rose, who? Ah, war the cow golden bear blue and gold. Grew up here in Northern California, and is now of course, the king of South Florida radio. So hey, Joe, Welcome to the morphine, Max. We've never had you on Brian Murphy. Paul McCaffrey. How you doing, Joe? Great. I got to tell you before we start so as a kid growing up outside of Sacramento. KNBR morning known and night toe. Listen to baseball games like I know you hear that all the time. It's not fair that that signal is so strong. I went up to Tahoe on vacation. And and and I'm listening to giant games like I'm next door. It's well Yes, Lissi. So you're born in 57 U went through some tough times with the Giants in the seventies. But you might do you remember, maybe the end amaze McCovey kind of stuff. That's all I remember. I remember a young Bobby bonds playing right field. Remember Willie Johnnie LeMaster. Yeah, man, those areas for the team's man, Wednesday's Yeah, There's a great times if you walk around in Miami, If you Johnnie LeMaster Jersey you're going to get zero Looks, man zero. He hit two under, but he was good defensively. Don't ever thinking about Johnnie LeMaster man. Yeah, You're already part of our you're already in our hall of fame. Right here, man. Okay. We need to download man. Here come the Miami Dolphins, By the way, you making the trip out? Are you guys doing it from? No, I'm I'm a hard rock stadium for every game home in a way. Yeah, we're up. Now. We're doing all the broadcast out of our own stadiums. Same with Greg Papa and Tim Ryan here in San Francisco or Santa Clara should say so. So well, who's coming in here? One in 32 attack of aloe waiting on the sidelines old man, Ryan Fitzpatrick. Is this Dolphins team may be a little better than its record to the 40 Niners. Be wary or it is what it is. It's a one in three team that isn't doing what it needs to win games. So they they had a chance to be Seattle. We got eight minutes left in the game. They're down inside the five yard line to take the lead. And end up kicking a field goal. And then Russell Wilson does that scrambling thing, And next thing you know, he's making big plays all over the place. So they end up losing. Uh, so they had a chance, and they played a really good Buffalo bill's team. Came back to take the lead, only to give a big place in the passing game. Same thing, so they they've been in every game in the mid part of the fourth quarter. And just haven't been able to get stops defensively and then just struggling. Not they get first downs, but just can't finish drives, not a lot of big plays in the offense. So that's kind of been the story but their competitive they play hard. Um, it hasn't all come together. Still lot of mistakes made Ah, breakdowns defensively. Sometimes guys way open and, you know you look, a two guys looking at each other. I thought you had him. I thought you, Adam. So there's some growing pains going on. And this team was really hurt. Like most teams, I guess, but being so young with no preseason and no off season, Yeah, right. And then obviously the question is there any chance we see two? Ah, in like a special package type of deal. Eagles use Jalen hurts in a couple packages Sunday night, so Is that on your radar at all that two of my chicken for a couple you You sound like a fan base here like you know, ready for this, But I would just say this the coach, he put it all out on Wednesday. No special packages. To come in and for to take over for Ryan Fitzpatrick. We don't think he's ready to play yet. Ryan Fitzpatrick gives us the best chance to win. You can imagine what what's going on down here with our fan base because Justin Herbert Who is after right behind Tua is now starting permanent starting quarterback and playing really well, I might add job. Earl got the job from day one. He looks like he's got a chance to be really good. With Cincinnati. So yeah, the pressure with the pressure's on. I mean, that's the on ly question that people want to know his winnings to a goingto play, and Ryan Fitzpatrick do a couple of picks last week. And he goes, He still gives us the best chance to win. The team supports him. And so unless Ryan Fitzpatrick gets hurt I'll be very surprised to see to it tongue of I Loe of playing this game. Great voices. Joe Rose. Miami Radio Man Does the Dolphins broadcast as radio down in Miami? Long time? Cal Golden Bear did some good stuff for the Golden Bears back in the day and, of course, played with Dan Marino and the Dolphins against the Niners in the 84 Super Bowl, So we haven't remember what happened during that time was a long time ago. A joke. The sad part is that we got you in a short time window. I'm already enjoying talking to you. We got to do this again some time, but we only have about two minutes left. So what would be like Miami's best path to victory on Sunday? Like where would they maybe shine in a matchup? Where they could get out of here with a win? I would tell you First of all, they don't turn the ball over there pretty pretty Damn good. It's gotta start with that wee just are not good enough and again. That's the biggest thing If they could run the football a little bit takes impression. We don't drive back and do it every every down. On defensively to be able to get a pass rush with all the crazy package. Just be ableto put pressure. On whoever the starting quarterback and end up being, um, that would be the thing, but I think dolphins or hang around. I don't. I'll be very surprised to see him get blown out. Nobody has been able to do it yet. They hang around. Question will be. Do they know how to win, And so far the answer is no. They haven't figured out how to win these tight ballgames. Good stuff, Joe. Last minute plug for the Bears, Man. You in touch with Justin Wilcox at all. There's they might be OK this year. I I have not talked to him at all. We went to a lot of coaches, so I finally stopped in the recruiting process is going out. I figured I was part of the problem too out there, so I stayed away. But I hear great things that he what he's doing and and, you know, recruiting. Hopefully the school's let them get some guys and that may be Don't necessarily qualify academically. Let's get a man man. Everybody else is doing to help him out a little bit. We need Mike White back there. Might got everybody in that chuck shed on Chuck Muncie. Hey, listen last last shot. Hey, just cause we're stealing you for 30. Seconds here in Miami, Clemson, Cain's up it claims and they're gonna cover That that 14 points 14.5 points. Boy, A. Somebody told me I hope they do. They're on our radio station. But I'm just going to stay away and stand on this one, right? Tell you what that's that's tough Get that Clinton team is really, really good with a lot of great recruiting classes behind. The best quarterback and best running back in the country. Yeah, to stuff. Great stuff, man. I hope we could do this again sometime. Anytime you want to do it, you guys, It's great. It's great being on with you guys. Thank you so much for having me Rose. The great Golden Bear can be our fan. And, of course, former Miami Dolphin talking dollars. Paulie. That's it. We're signing off on the other side. We've done everything we can today. "To be a little uncomfortable on the positive side. So I appreciate that well, is a reminder to myself to not complain when I come in, and it's freezing cold in here because I will just be more sure there's a reason that standardized testing when it's done in all different areas, just schools, but any sort that they have the air down. Yeah, colder because you're a little more crisp with your movements. Not only my favorite thing to tell you you were right because we still all of us. Fight you on it. Everybody in the room is too cold yesterday said hey, Morgan Turner there down to 67 because because it is it's already freezing. Sorry, guys. Let's play Old Dominion Hotel Key Bobby Bones. It was down some street. We couldn't even Vanessa. We were stuck in the middle of an area But the floor we were feeling was real. Neither one of us looking for three little words less so three words would do not check out was supposed to be new, but we slept until three. And then that way we can open the door. "No, You said you hadn't really kept in touch with a much over the last few years. No, I kind of lost contact with him after hurricane Sandy. And because I tried to reach out to, you know, call them down in the islands. That wasn't getting any idea. Any replies are nobody was answering. And I only recently found out the other day that that horse was actually in Maryland. Had come down with Alzheimer's around that time, right after Hurricane Sandy. So That obviously was in no condition. Nice to speak to anybody. They're probably not knowing. You know anybody was at that time because of the of the disease. So So you know very unfortunate. So he was living in Maryland since that time from one. Yeah, personally to his family to his friends and mates. Oh, yeah, it was. It was a great friend, and I really love the guy. We had some really good times together. Great role made a lot of laughs. Had a lot of fun at the ballpark with horse, Horace Clark. We're talking to Roy White Sweeney murdered on the fan. 11 29 air doing our virtual old timers Day, Roy. You've got to be part of some championships at the end of your Yankees career, and like we just talked to Don Mattingly, who never was wasn't fortunate enough to be in that position. But you're with the Yankees through you know, some of these years that you call the lean years. And when did you When you was a player when guys in the clubhouse really start to think things were turning in their direction, you know some, you know, Thurman Munson arrives and you know George Timer takes over in 73. But was there a moment or a year? We thought, Hey, this is really start to turn in the right direction. Yeah, You know, I think, 1974 actually. I think that was our first year with Bill Burton as manager, and that year we went down to the last week of the season in the pennant race. Between Baltimore And ourselves. I think I think we had the lead at one time in Baltimore came into Shea Stadium. And I think they beat us two out of three or they weapons and one in the first place by one game way only had like Nine games remaining or a king's remaining and both of us one every day until the day before the last game of the season. We're in Milwaukee and we lost to the brewers and you know, the Orioles clinched a planet then so At that time, we could see that our team was starting to come around. You know, we had great battles. Who was the other guys that we had done their job today, Guys. Thurman was coming to see you. Chris Chambliss had come over Jamba had come over and we were just getting better get kind of see that we were getting close. The next year we got Bobby Bonds, and we really thought we were going to go somewhere and we took a step back way we're going to do Oh, they won 1976 came around. You know, that was our first full year of Haven't Billy Martin and we added Willie Randolph that you're Man. I think Addy figure Roy had come over. Yeah, we got making rivers make you a big addition. So ah! That team was so much fun. I was finally after all these years, getting the bad in the number two spot in the batting order. And I was always always classified myself as a number one or number two guy. Because I could always get on base. I could get a walk. I could steal a base. I could hit behind the runner, you know, hit and run and do things like that. But for almost six years I had to bat cleanup. Or Yankee so unable to do any of those things because of some of the poor teams that we had in the files today. You're the only guy God I could back clean up. Well, I was going about a place for a long time. So now I got the second at Mickey Rivers ahead of the Germans behind and we went wired, aware that he got into the World Series against the Red Cent. And the big Red machine. Gotta stop that reality, but we knew we were better than getting swept. For four to nothing in that Siri's. We just weren't kind of ready forward after going through that playoff with Kansas City yet, Yeah, we're ready for the next two years. Definitely. We're talking to Roy. Why You led the league and run scored in 76 1 ofour got some M V P votes that year, helping ah, the Yankees to that first pennant since 64. I wanted to know for a guy who had been in the Yankee organization is entire career. You know you Ah. You sign? What year was it that you signed? It would have been. Yeah, 61 61 find in 61 but didn't play in 61. I didn't really go out. Start my mind and a career to 62. Okay, So you start in you start in the organization 61 62. You get to the big leagues and 65 AA lot of lean years. Finally, in 77 after all this time The Yankees were about to win a world Siri's Game six of the stadium. You're not in the starting lineup that day, but this is the game, obviously where Reggie it's his three home runs. Where where were you during the whole course of the game? And what was your feeling? As as this? This mo mentum is building to the Yankees, finally winning a World Series again. Well, I have to tell you now, sweetie. I was kind of bitter, Really, You know, deep in my heart because we're playing the Dodgers are from Los Vangelis set up. And Billy had promised me that I was gonna play in that series. I was going to play against right handers. Lou was going to play against the lefties because they didn't have the d h. You know, you're in the National League Mark. It never happened. I never started one game of that. You know, so I had my relatives. You know, my mom and dad. It's stuff. You never really get to see me play a game and that so? So it's kind of mixed emotions. You know, it was I was happy that you know we were gonna win the World Series. Reggie had You know that unbelievable game, hitting the three home runs. Which was was an awesome game. You know, I was there on the bench, you know, just watching the whole thing. And you know, so we win it. But then I I had an empty feeling at the end that you know that I really didn't get the participate. No in that world Series win, you know, In retrospect, that was pretty selfish, You know? Look at that, you know, now you know you should really enjoyed it, Orin. And just get happy more for your team based stuff like that. You know, you know that. What? And I wasn't at that time, So I've got that and you know 78. Everything just turned around. The opposite. You know that in every game, and almost I was in the battle for the M V. P for that Siri's with Bucky, you know, coming down to the last game. Lucky went three for four. Why was one for three? You drove a couple runs and deserves the God but up So that was a feeling that, you know, But finally, after all those years, you know for guided sign with the Yankees and thought, Oh, man, I'm gonna be in a row. Syriza's about every year is 11 years. 12 years of filing B'eianna World Series winner. We're talking a royal White royal one last one for you here. Your impact on the nineties Yankees has felt in your work with Bernie Williams. I know we've talked about this before, but I I don't know what everybody's heard this story..

"Just real quick did quick research and guys who have hit 300 or more in their career who wore the Giants uni And it's a pretty elite list. Mike. I mean, obviously, May's McCovey and bonds are the ones that come to mind. But other guys who crested 300 in their career that wore the black and orange Jeff can't he got 23 77 Bobby Bonds. Mattie Williams, Orlando Cepeda, those air all guys who finished in the three hundreds in their careers. So Longoria's going to hit that number. I mean again. I know he didn't do it mostly as a giant, but still it's a It's a significant milestone. Well, he's been a great big leaguer. He really has how many homers a chili Davis said. Look it up right now for that's a good question. You think what's your guests right out of the gate? 300. You talk about his career? Yeah. Okay. His career Chili Davis hit. I'll tell you right now, like 3 50 93 50 Yeah. Get a man Chili. Like do you remember that when he went to the angels, they got him to pose for a magazine cover holding a stick of dynamite next to a picture of Candlestick Park. You know, I talked to him about Ah, three days ago. He's in apple right now he is, you know, the heading instructor for the New York Mets. And but because he's a type two diabetic and ah, his his age 60. He just felt that you know, he opted out. I mean, wisely, he he was a high risk for covert. And the Mets. To their credit. They said, Well, we still want you to be with our Be with our players, and he zooms the Met hitters every day. And and he was in Scottsdale got too hot so that his wife and his two yellow labs They went up Tio Napa, and he's going to be there for the next six weeks or so, but it's still great to talk to him about hitting and I know we're getting off on a little tension here. But you know, you talked about the importance of a veteran like Evan Longoria. Well, when I played with chili was young player, I think he was in his second year, and her manager was Frank Robinson. And, you know, Chile being African American and Frank being African American. You have thought that That Frank would have taken him under his wing and eat a bit his pet in the farthest thing from the truth. He wore chilly out. He realised that there was potential there and it was. Frank's goal is to teach him how to be a professional. And when we were talking the other day we're talking about What he teaches the Mets hitters empire that he had been the instructor in Boston and Chicago. You know significant organizations with great hitters. And and he says, Well, you know, in the era of the launch angle, and you know all the new styles of teaching out ahead, he goes, I teach Frank. I teach Frank Robinson and I teach that's that's that's what I teach. And it was just great conversation. But he sees his Frank's hitting style. I mean, is he teaches Frank's ability to be a professional. Along the way it teaches how to hit. He uses the middle of the field. He's not so much in the launch angle and trying to pull the ball and you know he does make adjustments with two strikes up the middle of what, not all that's Frank Robinson. And it was. It was just a great conversation to hear a guy who looked upon with such credibility in our game. Still teaching the old style. These teachers, Frank Robinson, that's awesome. The fact that you and chili we're talking more everybody's heart here, that's great. And by the way, listen to this one. Chill. I just looked at them. Now. You got me down a rabbit hole of Giants players who Significant giants have crested the 300 homer mark in their career. Did you know Mike? The Chili hit more homers than Jack Clark? What? Yeah. Polly Jacket. 3 40 Chili hit 3 50 Wow. Well, I guess I didn't know that I would know that. But anything that you know is a switch hitter to that stands out as well. Yeah, and ah, couple of guys I thought might have gotten there. Kevin Mitchell, No. 2 34 in his career. And then this surprisingly low number. I guess I kind of maybe I II overinflated the 1987 NLCS in my mind, but Jeffrey Leonard only had 100 44 in his career. I would have thought he had more. But I guess he wasn't necessarily a home run hitter Per se. I thought of him as one. But Anyway. Well, he wasn't when he came up, and he was more of a speed guy and a doubles guy, And that's a guy. You know. We're talking case in point. He got his power late. He got his power when he was about 28 years old when he started hitting home runs Anything aboutyou every Leonard, you know a lot of his powers to right center. No, he did. He wasn't a pole guy. He hit the ball the office away. But Indian and he has much powers Anybody ever played with me. He was strong. Yeah, You're right. He 28 28 29 but only 21 was his max homers in a season. Maybe Candlestick got him. You know, maybe he was one of those guys that Candlestick got him. Yeah. I mean, it was Candlestick every help the hitter Toad, which is why I loved it. I loved Candlestick, for the simple reason is that there was such a miserable place to hit. That meant it was a great place to pitch, man. All right, Well, listen, it's all good news in terms of you guys broadcasting on Monday. It's great having you on back to back days. Great to know the Patriot will be waking up tomorrow and you don't have to do the show. You can relax. I'll talk to you on Friday. "Welcome to episode two forty nine, where at the end of this? Eddie Mighty and I will review the movie wall card. The Dewey Cox Story. It's an old movie, but it's a music movie. I never thought it'd be funny, so if you haven't seen the movie, you still might light. Listen to the review. Is We're we're kind of down? But if you haven't seen it and you WANNA watch, maybe go watch it. Then come back to the end of this podcast, but we're GONNA put it at the end. In case, there are spoilers to right Mike. Yeah a little bit. But that's not a movie doesn't matter if it's spoiled, it's not like some crazy indy. There's nothing you can really spoil it. Yeah, so check that out. CHECK THE MOVIE I! Also talked to Billy Dukes, coming out from taste of country on the top ten hottest artist, a twenty twenty kind of go through that bill, smart guy like him had a Montauk about that music headlines of the week. Live nation is trying to get artists to take pay cuts for concerts and festivals next year in a memo obtained by rolling stone live, nation sites, unprecedented times and quote the exponential release. Excuse me the exponential rise of certain costs as reasons for adjusting payment policies. That's interesting because they're going to have to pay a lot more. To make the make, sure things are safe and clean, yeah. Then they thought they would. Let me read more about this. Most of the new policies shift to financial burdens to the artist's. For example, the company wants to decrease the monetary guarantees promised to artists before and a bit twenty percent across the board. Live nation also says that if a concert is canceled due to poor ticket sales, it will give the artist twenty five percent of the guarantee. Well that's interesting. And I think I'll speak on this as also a performer I work with these promotion companies promoters all different ones I. think as long as books are shown. People can make wise decisions about business are doing together, and it's not that I don't trust live nation or an artist, but I would like to see if I'm someone that's has agreed to a tour or agreed to three or four shows even show I wanna see those costs, and why am I? GonNa take. Mine Down Twenty percent. The twenty five percent on the on the cancellation is great for an artist. Also, there's still get paid even if they don't sell tickets because people don't WanNa come. Twenty. They're guaranteed twenty bucks. They, probably a lower act would be guaranteed about ten to fifteen thousand. Unless it's a baby act on big tour there about five, five, thousand, seventy, five hundred. Lower. Ten to big acts are. Hundreds of thousands of dollars a night. So you're talking about. That's a nice little little. Give there. But that's interesting I never thought about the fact that it's going to cost more to put on shows. So I think as long as they show their books a little bit I don't know why artist would say no to that true. because. Everybody's GonNa lose some money here. Everybody, and no party, promoter or artist. Should benefit, and the other should suffer. You should kind of all being this together in a way. Interesting I didn't think about that some more. Maybe do a whole podcast on that that'd be the most boring podcasts ever open a book. Now the whole country is protesting. Rage against the machine is actually back on the charts. The band's self titled Debut. Album landed back on the billboard. It reached number eight on the I tunes top album charts as well. Yeah, do we have any rage I both them up? This is right in my gut from back in. High. School more so than college. I guess it was like ninth and tenth grade. I would have. Someone sent me a tape of the edge in Dallas. They'd hit record play and take an hour and the. An hour and I get a lot of rage and that. Was a big rage guy, but I didn't really know why I. Just like the sound I didn't really know. What they were protesting at the time by the time I started to know I started to get older and getting college, and they started to fall off a little bit. Do their own things. But now look back. Pretty cool. This is one of my favorites. What else do you have all right, so? We're limited in the range music. A CON has secured a six billion dollar contract to build a con city. A futuristic cryptocurrency theme city in Senegal. Along with having homes, malls and a power plant, a city all amenities. The city needs including schools in a police station pretty baller. Some people have buildings. Here's a whole city. Alex Super Futuristic. Does this ever actually happen. Though I don't know the guy who did smack that now has a city and see the king because he just. There's King Oh. Yeah, what because if he's not? He's still. The city is named after. And then if he does something really bad and his older life like commits a bad crime. That's a change the name of it because they don't want the name the city after so like you're not seeing any bill. cosby elementary schools still remaining in play. Now that he would do that, but I'm saying. You know. Commits. Fraud. Martha Stewart style. Do. You have to change the name of the city. Finally Dashboard confessional singer Chris. CARRABBA suffered severe injuries in a motorcycle accident. Luckily they weren't life threatening, and he expects to make a full recovery as watching the video of him in the hospital bed. You see it yet. Sad lookin'. Yeah, it looks pretty terrible. Motorcycles. Just never had the need to Yana on motorcycle. He's motorcycle guy though he looks cool riding motorcycle. Down Hilas here, oh! Oh, I've never seen him writing I just say like He. He's the kind of guy that will look cool. Riding motorcycles tattoos like the good face. We have those things tattoos in the face pretty good to go. But he's what happened to him. Do you know I don't know? He had a car car hit him. I don't even think that he hit anybody. I think he just fell rookie. Here's the one thing I've never acted motorcycle. Think. I've ever been on one driving me I. Never Motorcycle. Let's talk about new music before we get into this. I'm just really it's really weird about even building statues after people who are still alive. It's always a tricky thing because they do something. That's not so good they. Statue down.
