U.S. Judge Halts Trump's TikTok Ban, Hours Before It Was Set To Start

"Well tiktok lives in US apps stores at least for another day, a federal judge in Washington, sided with the company last night blocking President Trump's order that bans the video sharing app the trump administration. Let's remember caused the APP a national security threat and it's fighting in court to Block Tick Tock Chinese parent company Bite, dance from operating the APP in the US either by banning it outright or forcing a sale to a domestic buyer, we NPR tech reporter Bobby. Allen here morning Bobby Morning David Okay. So what is this court decision? What does it mean? So the judge put the brakes on a ban that was going to. Like you said, prevent any new downloads of Tiktok that was supposed to take effect at midnight Sunday and the judge didn't explained his rationale for the ruling. But TIKTOK lawyers argued in a hearing just over the weekend that shutting it down would be like shutting down a modern version of the town square. They said that's Kintu silencing speech and there sure is a lot of expression on Tiktok David I mean it's the fastest growing in the world. You know it has some hundred million users in the US. So all those users can now breathe a sigh of relief they can keep posting their lips thinking and other ridiculous videos. For now, that since such an important relief for so many people going for these these times of isolation. You Save for now that's important. Right? I mean this. This might not be the final word at all. Net. Yeah, exactly. So this is a breather for Tiktok buys them time before there's a more extensive hearing on trump's ban, and in the note here that the White House is not backing down from that band but as is winds its way through the courts. There's one very important date and that is November twelfth. That's when Tiktok has to find American buyer or disappear for real in the US Tick Tock, was hoping that the judge would also push back that date, but the judge said, no, we're sticking to the November Twelfth Day. When we heard so much about that potential deal was supposed to keep Tiktok live in the US for good. What what's the latest there? Yeah. There was hope at one point you know parties were racing towards an agreement, but then things sort of went south pretty quickly. trump gave the green light to software company Oracle to take a stake in Tiktok and Walmart was going to be a major investor. But then over in Beijing Bite damps which owns tiktok said, hey, hey, not so fast we don't WanNa lose control of the biggest. APP. To ever come out of China. So talks have stalled but you know the parties having given up. They're still discussing how they can maybe resolve this, but the stakes are so high David for Tiktok I mean, even a temporary ban could mean ninety percent of tiktok users will quit and join the competitors you know in in light of this happening many other apps have cropped up that see opportunity here trying to take you know the users who you maybe think Tiktok might go away and hope that they jump over to their platform. What about this basic question bobby. Is Data safe on Tiktok if we're using the United States yeah. This is at the very heart of the debate. You know the trump administration says, having a Chinese owner creates a national security risk since China's government has unfettered access to private business in the country, and there is a consensus among experts that that's a real concern but the particular threat from Tiktok that's lot shakier. The White House has never offered ironclad evidence that can definitely get its hands on the data of Americans and Tiktok says it's shielded because none of the data is stored on Chinese soil. And most of its data on Americans is encrypted. That's said David None of those assurances are cooling the heat from the White House. All right, this journey continues NPR's. Bobby. Bobby thanks so much for covering it. You gotta thanks David.

Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick: Games Are Not a Platform for My Political Views

"Bobby Kotik says we're not the operator of the world's townhalls from an interview on CNBC that he gave few days ago. He's not wrong. They are the I would not want him to operate town halls. They are the operator of sick beards though yes mustache is really yeah This is this was all in service of him. Basically saying that he doesn't think that activision games should be a platform for political views wall. Well then why did they make Cooley call. Yeah call of duty is a pretty notable when you were able to jump over all the the magic bomb. Tom In Tony Hawk to they made their political stand. Unwitting commentary on class struggle. I mean seriously though you look at the most recent call of duty look at that shit they Like changing war-crimes from America to Russia and the other end of the spectrum from look at what the we've talked about this before with overwatch but like you know making a big deal of this character is gay and then like skins to hopefully in. Yeah so is this Bobby Bobby Codex hanging like us. Shut it down representation by this is Bobby Kotik saying I'm here to stop thinking. Stop thinking about taxes taxes about progress. Everything's I think. Meyer Video Games. Turn off your brain. Yeah Bobby Codex says back back in my day video games were fun day. There is something about fun. Is there another quote from him. That's just the operator communities that allow you to have fun through the Lens of video game is the other end of that quote. I can't have you politics at the same time. Also that yeah my brain would explode. Political Fund is neither. You know what I'm saying scalise you've been stores now. I mean there are some other quotes there about my responsibility to make sure there are communities feel safe secure comfortable and satisfied entertained that doesn't convey to me the right to have a platform for a lot of political of us. The right certainly like no. No we're talking about rights here now. activision division as a private company is under the same way that we can ban people off our message. Boards like of course activists there's under no obligation to like have free speech. I mean it's they banned people using swastika icons from call of duty when they had the in the years when they have a custom emblem editors and such. If you make that Shit you get banned. I guess they are. They moderate their community. There's no illusion of free speech. It's not about that. When people say all art is political what that means is like actively choosing to ignore politics is enforcing the status quo which is inherently taking a side like? It's like don't question things like there's no politics on chill yeah official stance like I'm not looking for every activision blizzard game to have a deep message about politics politics knowledge like I feel like it's it's not an honest argument. That people are having when they when they say shit like this. I think anyone with with half a brain looking at this stuff like Oh yeah. There's yes that makes sense. There are things you would identify as political in these games but but they don't want to have to sit there and back it up or justify it or or say whether they're still or try to say the bobby agrees or disagrees with the messages as of any given game. Yeah he doesn't want to have to be put in that position so it's a lot easier to say like oh well we don't you know we're just telling stories here.

How to Work Fairly

"Welcome to the nightly rant. I'm Mike and I'm toria. This is the show where we talk about the awful things that have happened in our day, the awesome things that have happened in our day and all the things in between. Thanks for listening and we truly hope you enjoy. So today was. How to put it busy. I don't know. Busy is a strong enough word anymore. Since busy is our usual state of being and today was just more hectic. Yeah. I made an appearance on the bitter truth with Abe. Did you was it. Fun. We had a blast. He had a whole agenda that he wanted to go through. We didn't go through his. I here this coming back on our show next week as he will be on our show sin, you have to negotiate his agent has to contact mine agent. Nitrogen has to contact is agent, and then both of their agents has to contact your agent. And then when all three agents agree, then he'll be on our show, so he'll never be able to be on the show because I want to much money. Sorry, you wanted to much money as nothing to do with anything else. I'm never going to agree because y'all aren't paying enough. We pay you more than enough. Now you get to eat. It's good enough. What exactly do you contribute on? Why don't we talk about that for a second? What exactly do you contribute? He's trying to start a fight guys. He's trying to make me punch him in the kneecap. Again, you don't contribute though. You're even now I give you something to us to contribute and you veer back towards not contributing wise that how am I not contributing giant cock sucking asshole. That's better. Now you're engaging. Now, what are you trying to piss me off? Yes. Why? Because I want you to get a little Ranchi and go on a round. I've A read red Bobby. Bobby, but I don't want to rent a what's the topic tonight? Tell the people what we're going to talk about. So I would like to know why why people holy shit. Oh, do you? Can you think your giant face away from me right now? Why people from other countries think it's okay to tell you, they're going to charge you a lower rate for work, and then they just charge you like fifteen times the number of normal hours and end up making like twice the normal rate. We just did. We just did a little study here on what a person did for somebody that she knows. And she asked me what what I charge and list. I said an hour. My initial reaction was an hour on, here's why, because I think that you could actually do that in less than an hour, but then I opted to two hours because you know, there's always glitches like your computer reboots ones not supposed to or the internet is down at cetera. So you've got you. You have to account for that. It might take you longer. Right? So to ours was what I said. And if I were to charge sixty five dollars an hour. Our it would be one hundred and thirty dollars that I would be charging that person. And that's a pretty hefty rate. That's like a senior level rate sixty five dollars an hour. Dares came up to like two hundred and forty five at their measly like five dollar an hour rate because they well, it was the five dollars an hour. They charged him sixteen and a half hours for the same work eight times that yeah, so they were eight dollars an hour. Fifteen members, McKinney sense came two hundred and forty. Seven. That doesn't make any sense it's it does. No, it doesn't because that would only be four times as much, but they charged eight times as much. Fifteen dollars an hour. I'm sixty and a half hours. And if minus two hours than I would be eight times as much which doesn't add up to that. But you're really only four times as much he charged eight times as many hours. No, he charged four times as many hours charged. I don't. You're breaking my head. This is what the math says. Okay, don't argue with the man, the master all know what you're not calculating this correctly. So how many hours the charge sixteen and a half. Okay. Hold on. Hold on. Just told you hold on sixteen and listening sixteen and a half. No, I'm listening. I'm just confirming and I said to all right, and then year claiming that his rate is fifteen. Okay. And then I'm saying. My rate. Sixty five. Experts post pace, how spirit out. Okay. So that equals. Two hundred forty seven fifty. Two. Thirty. So this is what doesn't exist. How can I have charged. About half of what he charged yet. He had eight times the number of hours because your rate is four times what his right is. So you subtract that part out God. That's what I was missing. Math was messed up. I said, so I'm used my side of the math thousand minutes. I mean, I'm pretty sure this person crapped his pants at this guy been charging sixty five dollars an hour. Yeah, because that's. That's what I thought you were going to say to me. Well, what's interesting, what's interesting is there have been other projects, and this just seems to be the amount of time this person bills for this work. Was just really alarming. Yeah, would have been like eleven hundred dollars. Yep, which would be a nice pay day for someone like us. But anyway, it leads me to the Levy on the same path as these people like you get quotes from them sometimes and they're, they're quoting this like. Unreasonable number of hours like they're quoting you thousand hours for something you would. You know, it would take you a hundred, which means it would take a normal person, four hundred and they're quoting you thousand hours for it. Just like why? What? If you need? If you're charging me five dollars an hour, you're quitting thousand hours because you need. Normally take if it normally would've taken two hundred hours and you're charging thousand hours charging five times as much. Why didn't you just charge twenty five dollars an hour. You're still going to be cheaper than most people, but your your numbers that you give will be more reasonable yet you'll still be getting money you wanted to make and I am spending what I want to spend. Right. But that's why I insisted like this. Most recent one I insisted on flat fee bid because I don't wanna play with. Oh, it's another ex hours or you pay me this much extra asked for all three. You ask for the flat free rate and you ask for an estimate of how many hours it would take, and then you ask for what their hourly rate would be for anything out of scope. Therefore, technically asking them what their outrage. I forced them to tell me there then trick them into that when you think about it. Because if you're going to tell me that your hourly rate is ten dollars an hour, right? Right. But you're going to also tell me that the estimate is, let's say ten thousand dollars, but the number of hours at your estimating is five hundred hours while you're actually charging me twenty dollars an hour for the development part of the project, not ten dollars. So you know, it tells me a lot about what you're up to and what I can expect later. We'll because if they're screwing you at that point, then you know they're likely to. Screw with you later. But if they're charging you like if they're charging you like ten dollars an hour for the development time and fifteen dollars an hour for the scope you respect that is it's not planned for you understand. It's like when I packaged my hours well, or like the guy today, like the guy that like the guy today said. Would you if I had a longer term bigger project, would you would you be negotiable on your rates? We'll of course gonna be negotiable in my rape, right? Because I would rather get paid. I don't know, twenty percent less but be working. Have consistency. One hundred and eighty hours a month right? Three hundred dollars a month, whatever the hell works out to. But you know what I'm saying? Having that guaranteed income is worth more than trying to squeeze the rate. The rate is more for all. You only need me for four hours. This is my rate. I saw somebody in one of the groups the other day they were asking about how if their pricing seemed fair, and there they were charging like they doing like packages of hours. Okay. Okay. So they had one that was like forty hours for a month, which is perfect for like, most people would tell you hours a week, okay, whatever. And then so they're their rate for that. Let's just say it was four hundred to make an nice Easter number and then there if you go over your number of hours, hourly rate was higher, and I think that's totally fair because if they're under the number of hours, you're still getting your four hundred dollars. It's just if they go over and require more additional time. It's taking away from potential your other clients, and that's exactly it because with the package deal, you can say to yourself. This is how many man hours I can cover. I just got forty from this person right now. I can only cover that minus forty eventually get to the point where it's at or close to zero, right? We'll when they go over the when they go under the forty that doesn't affect your lay out here because you just have more time to work on other projects, right? But when they go over it, you gotta charge the more than the package deal because they didn't buy it as a package deal was under, like his family time is running away from other word. But what some places will do is if you charged like in that example, four hundred dollars for forty hours. Dell offer another ten hours for one hundred dollars, right? So they'll still allow you to get the ten dollar an hour rate, but you've got to buy a block hours and that's where the trick is. If they want only one hour if they only go forty one hours instead of forty, big new, make them by a block of ten. You just made ninety dollars on that deal with. Interesting about most of these people who do the packages. Say our thirty day packages. As in you get those forty hours for thirty days and if you don't use them, you use them. Yeah, right. Rollover hook, my guess is that the successful ones. Somehow factor in of well, couple months in a row. They used five hours less. So there's an extra ten hours. So this month they went over by two. I'm not charging them for that. I would think that that's what I would do. Like for example, if I was getting a forty hour package from somebody Meles thirty two hours this month, and then they used forty two hours the next month. They wouldn't be being built for the wound guess what guess what used me? Think of something, you know, we have our vital factor meeting coming up soon. And if you think about it, if you were to do a business line, that was all packages. That's what you'd data exactly what you would be doing is tracking the dollars that you made more and how much tiny put in. Because if if you were selling just to keep it in even number again, two hundred hours a month. Well. At your normal hourly rate. That might be four thousand dollars, right. Okay. You might only make. Three thousand dollars because you sold in packages, but you also might only work. One hundred twenty hours right with that three thousand dollars. So yeah, while you're on the hook for more hours, you hardly ever have to work that many hours. So you're you're earning in long run, you're actually earning more for our yes packages after work out that way. Because because I feel like when you end up with a client that makes you track your time diligently and I'll just gets to most people are going to be honest, and they're not going to make as much money because they're going to be honest. But then if it's the package thing, you just need to make sure you're giving them the value that they're looking for and they're happy right. If it takes you forty hours takes forty if it takes you ten then great for you as long as you're giving them the value they're looking for. Right. That's exactly true, nuts. And that's values the key, right? And really the way you get people to sign. On with the first being different differentiation don't be don't do what everybody else does. Change some of what everybody else does make it make it a little bit different. And I don't even mean do what everybody else does plus some because that makes it really easy for them to copy you. You pick and choose what you're good at out of what everybody else does and natural you focus on in you're the best at that. Right. And then guess what you're going to have clients that need someone who's organized. Go to your skill. One of your strengths is organization. They're gonna utilize you because the are not gonna wanna pay forty dollars an hour for somebody who's excellent every single skill at top level executive level assistant, right? They don't wanna pay for that, but they don't have to. They only need help in this area and this area. So they find somebody who's cheaper, who's really good at those two things. Exactly. Save money. Exactly. They go. There's a virtual assistant post for you. Listen to this episode and refresh your memory and right the post on time this time. Still haven't turned in the other. I now dangerous. She writes the content calendar, then she takes part of the content calendar responsibility on yourself, and then proceeds to not make it on time for the content calendar kind of cracks me up to all dissolves all. Well, to be fair, you were supposed to write all the blog post, and I was just trying to help. But at this point I'm just making it worse than not helping at all. So. Tuck it is makes me laugh, but. I. I get frustrated by those kind of companies that do that stuff because it gives everyone a bad name and then people like you. I always higher offshore people because I saved money and then you ask them like how much money do you really set eve, right? That's why like another thing that they used to do, they're not people are more wise to it now, but this is why used to make money managing those projects is they used to tell you, it's going to take a hundred hours and then it every step of the way they would argue what's inspect, what's not inspect all. It's going to be this much and most people, they don't mind paying two thousand three thousand four thousand five thousand for a good application. But when you tell them that it's only going to be a thousand dollars to do exactly what it is they want for an application. You don't wanna be telling them it's gonna cost extra. So what I would do, I would always come in and I would work with the Indian company to create a spec for this company. How charge them three hundred and fifty dollars right with a spec. And I tell them that if you hire me, I will charge you twenty five percent of whatever they bid. So they bid two thousand. I'll charge five hundred to manage the project flou- k. but and out of that money I guarantee you that we will finish on time. And they would pay me, you know, three, whatever, to create this back. Then they dispatched would be perfect. Then they pay me like, you know, it was two grand or whatever twenty ground, let's say. And so they would pay me another forty, seven hundred dollars. And I would manage the project and what's great about it is each of those projects took me about five hours a week to manage, so making a thousand dollars an hour, managing projects by using that methodology, it worked really super well. Now, places became a lot less honest will you now they don't nest. They don't lie about. They don't try to pull the wool over your eyes after the fact that they pull the wool over your eyes prior to the fact like that kind of stuff like billing sixteen and a half hours for two hour maximum job, right. When I heard on their three different databases, I guarantee there's something about his site that's running three different databases for whatever reason, three different times he had changed the URL. It is literally opening the file in a text editor and doing the search and replace it would take you about as long as it takes to open the file, hit control, f. type in what you're searching for, what you're placing it with and hitting enter. That's about how long it would. Take you to do that, and he and multiply that by three. So if it took an entire minute for all three total, it was a lot. And then they get away with it though. People paint that still only two hundred and fifty dollars, and then they tend people tend to get into the mindset of old American developer would have been sixty five dollars an hour time. Sixteen will know the Merican developer would have been sixty five dollars an hour times too because I wouldn't have charged do sixteen for that. Yes, right. And that's where people need to realize that they'll save money with the quote, more expensive company, right. It's a blog post for you have that on my. Content list? Yeah. I try to keep a content list because one of the things in my time engine system is based off of his lists and you're not supposed to try to keep things like that. Your head, you're supposed to get it on a list. And then when you need something from that list, you review the list and pull it off. Sense. You know, that's why today I had you picked the best of episodes for last week, and then I got because I had already picked to these. We've put out four. Now, as of this point you picked to picked to. And really you picked you picked too. I picked one. We picked one because the trash back basketball, our like my love. It makes me laugh every time I see the dumpster or the Johnny laugh every time I see that guy that looks like dirt alert here. He still lives here, looks like mister clean, but I'm surprised with all the turnover on that side. He still lives here. He lived here before we did too. He's lived here for a long time. Did he live here before we did. I didn't think so. When when I captured him in the laundry room that day, it was like right after I moved here. And he was saying that he lived here for like two years. I don't think the girlfriend had lived here for two years. I think he lived here by himself and then she moved in God. Then she had baby. Nice really lives here. Yes. Interesting. Well, I think that if you think. I think we've beat the topic to death of these people who scam shit out of other people. Yes. Okay. Then. His hair was loaded with Greece. Of course. There's no getting around that. But the fact of the matter is he was working very hard and he's a greasy individual Orson. Welles is a fat greasy lout guy of of just weirdness. Agai of just complete and utter stunted ability. A guy who had very little going for a guy who I don't give a shit. See, it seems to me that she's got you right there. I saw the movie. Oh, you did? Yes, I did and he overdubbed his voice. He overdubbed.
