Washington NFL team says it will retire Redskins name, logo
"90 years. Washington D. C is pro football team is retiring the controversial Redskins mascot comas, Bill Swartz remind us of several schools in our state that changed racially offensive sports nicknames. Fight song and logo filled with stereotypes and insensitive words. Washington football team owner Dan Snyder announced the Redskins mascot is being dropped. He and coach Ron Rivera will find an appropriate nickname and logo going forward. Seattle's Nate Burlison played for the Seahawks and is a host on the NFL network. Just about time about time. There's been a lot of pressure on this organization, not just from the players, the fans but also now we know the sponsors, so This is a sport situation. It's a business situation, but more importantly, it's a humanity situation. So I'm glad that they decided to make the change Hall of Fame broadcaster Bob Costas, not a fan of name changes, just a suit political correctness, But the Redskins had to go get yourself a dictionary. By definition. Are Uber and Lyft Drivers Well Paid? It Depends on the Study
"Is simply a question off the marketplace. Almost purely dictating the value ofthe the time oven uber driver and if uber drivers do not make enough, they will not sign up. They will say This is a crappy way to spend the day I'm not making enough. Kim Statistics are wrong and I'm going to do something else. Uber will not have enough drivers. They will have to increase their cost the consumers to keep the model live. The drivers will get again the market so in effect, what uber does in a manner of speaking is create this almost perfect marketplace for service rather than have it being dictated the price being dictated by the Legislature. It is dictated, pure and simple by the market, and the market operates at two levels. If it's too low. If the drivers don't make it off, they will not show up. Uber will fail. If Uber does not pay the drivers in off and keeps the profit. They will write out of drivers, and if the service is too high, consumers will not pay and again the model will fail so the marketplace will give all the information anybody needs about whether the business model will succeed. And so that what the fight is all about. Now I've mentioned uber Course uber is always over and lift their always ground central for this fight, But Kim, I would like it to help our friends out there Understand? How widespread the model is. There is there are as you started to explain and like to expand that hundreds of activities that operate in this structure and How and so many people well, well well beyond uber and lyft drivers and Postmates etcetera are dependent upon this model for their livelihood. Give us a sense of how broad this business model is in the economy because most consumers don't see it. No, you don't realise when it's happening, but likely said they've identified more than 300 profession. So far. The total number of people that affect it depends on whose data you want to believe. How you want to define an independent contractor or self employed person, but everything from the U. S Bureau of Labor statistics to the more recent surveys by specialized private organizations. They tell us that there's somewhere between about 10 and 15 million Americans that are working this way, either a couple hours a week or people who do it like me, and it's the way they earned their entire living. So when you write a lot that affect all independent contractors You're smashing Quite a lot of people who don't deserve to be smashed. You know, even California's own legislative analyst's office when they did a study of this back in February. They came out and said that in California alone, they think this is going to hit about a 1,000,000 people and probably very, very few of them will actually be helped by it. They're going to be hurt by it. That was the government's own analysis of this thing.

The Skeptics Guide For Wearing Masks
"Roll come to this country. The Universe today is Wednesday July eighth twenty twenty, and this is your host. Steven Novella joining me this week or Bob Novella, everybody, Cara, Santa, Maria, howdy, and Jane, Novella Hey guys I've been. Bernstein is out this week. Is Neck deep in other people's taxes. Guys Do. You know what he's. He had like a weird like mid tax break which he's never had before. Pick about it right? Yeah I, think everybody did. Last night. So like screw this finishing this crap I hate it and also I think the thing. Is Nobody really knew what was going to happen, but a lot of people got hit super hard, which is why the tax deadline was pushed back so they're like I can't afford to pay my taxes right now, but maybe come July all be in better place financially. Unfortunately, a lot of people are even worse place financially now. There's just kind of kicking. The can down the road speaking of that Steve What are the latest numbers are not good. You know especially in the United States so worldwide. We've surpassed twelve million cases with over five hundred and fifty thousand deaths. In the U, s where over three million cases and Around, one hundred thirty thousand deaths, at least that number's always because probably more. And you know it's just in the US just exactly what we warned about. We're seeing the second hump in the first wave and the greatest number of new cases per day is happening right now. This is a greater surge than we had back in March and April, and this is what we talked about. What happens when we start to open up what happens if then cases start to surge again, what will be? Do you know people have lockdown fatigue? The economy's already taken a big hit from the first lockdown. Some states opened up too quickly. They didn't do it properly with enough testing and contact tracing. And now we're seeing this really bad second wave and the sad thing is. They're having to do it kind of haphazardly like they're the states where they said. Okay we want to reopen, so they never really fully lockdown or they did, but they only stayed lockdown for like two weeks, and then they were like okay bars. We got to reopen. We got to get the economy going. And now the cases are just bananas out of Control and so they're doing this like quick quick. Quick your mask back on, and it's kind of like it's haphazard. It's not clean. It doesn't feel as controlled. And I think that's where things really do. Fall through the cracks, and then, of course we have this whole. Political Anti Mask Movement. That does seem to correlate with some of the same states where we're seeing these spikes. We definitely see in California. I mean you know in more conservative districts, but there are sort of marbled in California, so I definitely hear it even in L. A., it's not as common but. Not that Far Away San Bernardino County's very close, and you see the people. Holding angry signs and it's just. Did you guys hear that they did? A study showed that if they mandated mask you have. Made it pretty much requirement? Everyone wearing masks in public that they could save forty five thousand lives over the course of I'm not sure what the course of the period the period of time would be I think like three or four months. Five thousand I mean if that number that was that was fairly solid number. Would what else would you need but like okay, then we're. We're doing this. You have to wear a mask in public period. Almost the Vietnam War right there. Yeah, no more was fifteen thousand so imagine we could save the same number of lives lost over ten years the Vietnam War just by wearing I think it's such a profound number that we're not even equipped intellectually to really understand that that much right like I don't know forty thousand people I can't picture forty five thousand people sitting in a room I don't know what that looks like. I look like a baseball football stadium. Wouldn't that be roughly? Park, speech larger than the student body of my Alma Mater and speaking of masks. Study this week very that people might be interested in, so they just compared different types of masks, and how well they work, and of course the ones that you think should work the best do right so the ninety nine masks supposed to stop ninety nine percent of the virus were the best followed by end ninety five of course block, Ninety five percent of the virus, and their tests show that those numbers roughly accurate. And then followed by surgical masks, so they were the next, so those are the ones that healthcare workers are using, and they do work the best for the homemade ones they said was the best so actually interestingly, using vacuum cleaner filters was the best like homemade option. Just make a little pocket in your mask. You put those filters in there, and you can replace them like if they get moisture used. And that was the best using any kind of a close. We've. tight-knit cotton was good. They said what did not work is wearing. A scarf doesn't really do much to the only a slightly better than no mascot, all or a t shirt like pulling a t shirt up over. Your face doesn't work very much at all either so stick with the. multi-player cotton, and if you put a filter

"Sentence commuted. President Trump has commuted the sentence of his longtime friend and political confident Roger Stone. He says You should understand that a pardon would be fun would be final on that in accepting a pardon. You are exceptionally accepting guilt. And I would rather see you fight this out. Which is why I'm commuting your sentence in Washington are Bob Constantini reports, the White House argued that Stone's conviction was part of what they called a Russia hoax. Norah ODonnell, anchor of the CBS Evening News
"Today O'Donnell joins us on skin from the couch. She is the anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News, making her the third woman ever to so anger, a network evening broadcasts before taking the helm of the evening news. She was the CO host of CBS this morning for seven years norad. Thank you for joining us welcome skin from the couch. Thank you for having me, so we're GONNA. Start off with Skim your resume for us. Will I went to Georgetown University I was Law Sophy Major? I was interested in a lot of different things in college so I had internships at always worked and worked at a law firm I. worked at the World Bank, and and then I injured ABC News and I think you know journalism really was what was the right fit for me? Just a deep curiosity about the news, deep curiosity about world events and people have to graduating from college I got a job at National Journal on a publication, a called the hotline, which was the original kind of aggregate her of news before the Huffington. Post and others got into the business of aggregating news. Even like you guys in some way, remember it well, and that also was like a crash course in politics, too, because we would. Sum Up every Senate and House race across the country, all the polling who all the key consultants were, so that really was a great crash course in politics, and then I got hired at NBC and MSNBC when I was twenty five years old to be you know it was one of the youngest correspondents at NBC history, and had a great career at NBC and had three kids, and then we all work on intelligent news underwear like personal services contracts. All of us have anywhere from two to five year contracts. In, so you know in each of those contracts, come up! You have an opportunity to reevaluate your next step and CBS came to me with an incredible offer to be. The chief White House correspondent for Obama's last term, and to be the substitute anchor for face, the nation, and I had always been ambitious about wanting to anchor a Sunday broadcast I love politics, and so to be able to substitute for the legendary Bob Schieffer at thought. This is really an an excellent opportunity, so. and. CBS. News and then Kinda. The rest is history should I keep going? No, that was perfect so something you definitely don't know I. and turned at MVP when I was nineteen in the specials unit, and I was like my first week on the internships. Let's say day two or three in you opt into the office. And you're the first professional famous news anchor I ever seen in person and I literally I stopped breathing I was so excited all I wanted to do is to be a news anchor at the time, and I was so nervous, and when you walked out of the room I asked one of the producers. What is she liked you work with her I will never. Never forget their like she's the best of the best, and I was like what makes her so good. And they said that she always does her homework and I think about that a lot and I'm curious. What is something that you your fans and people like us your big fans? What does the thing that we don't know about you that we can't Google? What I wasn't as good about doing my homework in college. And I did just fine at Georgetown. But I do I think certainly a professional that is dry. Always did know my homework because I do believe that preparation builds confidence and confidence build success, and so for me, you know certainly early on my career as a young correspondent with so many famous people at NBC legendary careers. My confidence wasn't a tie, and so I thought how can I be the smartest person in the room and no more than anybody else and. You know I just really did my homework. I really worked really hard to make sure I knew everything. The thing that people may not know about me. You Know I. Guess would be that I'm from a military family. You know I mean that certainly is my resume, but it's the one thing I mentioned because you know I remember in covering certainly the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq after nine eleven, a lot of people would say on television and Mike Barnicle on morning. Joe would say this a lot that Oh, no less than one percent of people have someone in the military who didn't understand these wars, but I grew up in the military. My father was drafted during the Vietnam War. State for thirty years I lived overseas and so I really do have a deep appreciation for those who serve my sister-in-law surgeon in the army and so I do have a really keen sense of the sacrifice that many people go through, and I do in some ways I almost wish that it was mandatory almost like in Israel that we had to sir because. I think you know certainly the discipline that they have is unlike anything I've seen those who sir. Let's actually start with that because I think it's fascinating talking about how you grew up and living overseas. How did this love of news and growing up with that military background kind of come together for you? You know I think one of the. First crystallized for me in some ways when Elena, Nachman Ost, who is still the vice president of talent at NBC? News said to me when I met her. When I was twenty five years old, and she said you know we like hiring correspondents who have from a military background, because they're very flexible and adaptable. They don't complain about being sent to different cities or states or around. Around the world they can talk to anybody because they've sort of been put in that situation where they have to be totally adaptable. Moment's notice
The Skeptics Guide
"Loan welcome to the. Universe today is Wednesday July first twenty twenty, and this is your host Novella joining me this week or Bob Novella everybody. Santamaria Howdy Jane Novella guys and Evan Bernstein welcome to the second half of the year everyone. Let's hope it was as good as the first. This is one of the longest first halves of a year I. Think I've ever experienced in my life. Was Different. Alright the thing that I think that's happened over the last week in terms of the whole Cova. Craziness is the real escalation of the mask wars as a cultural war in the US, which is just crazy. Lutely I guess we'll fight over anything right? It's hard to be. You know to be surprised after everything we've seen. But, this is a little bit surprising people fighting against the masks. Is just well, but you know what it's not that surprising. If you know a little history, because the same exact thing happened in nineteen eighteen during that flu pandemic, there was a general recommendation to wear masks, and there was actually an anti mask league of people pushing back against mask wearing, and you're saying that specifically a here in the US right. I think it's elsewhere as well I think the UK's having a little bit of a pushback it's. Component known another. Component was not just in the US that was even more over in Europe. Interesting that this the current anti mask nonsense is mainly a US phenomenon I think, but I think it is happening elsewhere as well just not as much so I've been seeing some really interesting assertions about the fact that some of the underlying ideology really comes down to the fact that historically America, and you're right some kind of European. Nations as well especially, the UK kind of pride themselves on an individualistic society as opposed to a collectivist society, and obviously everybody falls somewhere on the continuum of those two things, but America has sort of a long history of being very individualistic, very proud of it, and that kind of mentality could have some explanatory power when we talk about these anti mask fights. Yeah I think that's part of it if you look if you look like there was famously testimony in Florida from people who pushing back against mask wearing and they you know the big theme was liberty and freedom. You'RE NOT GONNA. Tell me what to do, but there was some subset of them woven religious themes. Like this, you're covering God's face whatever you know really interesting. I know. Who you're supposed to cover your head. Whatever and then the other theme was pseudoscience, right? It was making claims that will masks are unhealthy, or they don't work. Since just exactly like the ANTIBAC- sers the same same playbook, so how much of that is just like trying to find justification for that lip? Wonderful Sam. Percent this idea that I'm more concerned about my own comfort than I. am about the well being of others? It's really representative of an individualistic view. That's hard to extricate because it's like it's so woven into society that kids in America are born thinking that way depending on how multicultural bicultural whatever you are. How many generations you've lived here, but when you look at collective societies, the idea that somebody would make a decision to for their own betterment at the expense of other people's welfare is like bananas to them. I mean I. Think I think like we were saying. There's a huge component here of it being a political statement. You know I've been doing a lot of work like you know. Heavy lifting type of work with a mask on prepping for nexus and yeah like it's harder to breathe when you have a mask on, but they've proven that you're not at a loss for oxygen like you're not suffering from a lack of oxygen because you're wearing a mask, it just restricts your breathing a little bit. It's like trying to breathe through. A Straw of a certain size feels a little CLAUSTROPHOBIC, but yeah. Has. Anything worse but Kovalev. Yeah, but yeah, you're right J does not restrict your ability to get oxygen into your blood, and it doesn't cause you to re rebrith the CO two enough of it is getting out. You know the thing is you have to keep in mind? Surgeons of wearing masks for hours a day for tire, adult career for hundreds of years, or whatever at least one hundred years you know, so, that's not a new thing, and you know what about I've gone skiing all day with Neoprene facemask for eight hours at at a time. You know what I mean. People wear beliefs essentially functionally face masks in cold environments for long stretches of time, not an issue so. It really is. It really is not since people have been passing around these fake like exemption cards, but they're totally bogus. There'd be. Frustrating because there are you know a handful of people for whom they really can't wear a mask because they have such a severe psychiatric issue Oregon some sort of medical exemption, but also probably there's a big overlap between the people who would really need a medical exemption and a severe risk of if they contract covid. They're going to not fair as well so people probably shouldn't be spending as much time
Travel to Devon and Cornwall, England
"Welcome to amateur traveler I'm your host Chris Christensen. Let's talk about Devon and Cornwall. I'd like to welcome to the show. Ryan Duffield from Devon who has come to talk to us about the city of Plymouth in southern England and also the surrounding area, including Devon and Cornwall. Ryan welcome to the show. Thank you very much. Thank you for having me Howie. Good well, you know and it's funny because we just talked about the English coast, but we've moved a little further to the West and talk. Talk about a different region of the coast than we did on the show recently when we talked about Suffolk and the the downs. Why should someone go to Plymouth Plymouth? Actually it's a fantastic city. It's a city that goes amazing maritime history and tradition that dates right back to the medieval times, but actress quite often overloaded when people think of cities in England. They think oh of Lunden Bama again. Manchester Liverpool perhaps. I think Plymouth is just as much. Interest is end if those cities, but it's just north of us so much, and I think particular twenty American. Listeners interested is also the city where the pilgrim father set sail on the mayflower. Sixteen twenty associated with the traditional thanksgiving. S Pre interesting point. Is also surrounded by beautiful coastline. It's right on the border of the county's of Devon and Cornwall these are two of the most popular tourist destinations in the UK down in the South West of England, said Scott lost offer. Willing we're looking for dividend cornwall if we go down to the English map and you go far bottom left. That's where we are, and if you go further bottom further left from there, you end up in the ocean. So we're. Right on the south coast of Devon Oklahoma so are literally facing out to the Atlantic okay well and facing out towards the south. Yes, excellent well, what? Are. You GonNa. Recommend Fourth Festival is obviously starting in the city centre, so the city is actually pretty much based around the coast and its large harbours, so I would say starting day Sutton Haba, which is the main harbor in the city and that so where the city spreads out from I'm from around the. You've all sorts of things to say side. You've got things like the mayflower steps. Steps, which is where there's the pilgrim fathers actually set sail from and this museum dedicated to that you've also got what's the Barbican? which is this old coupled street state specs, medieval periods, which is full of these is correct, slim pubs and bars, restaurants shops things like that, and it's one of the few passes cities. The city was actually bombed June. Sacramento War by the Nazis and the. The city was destroyed, and this is one of the well preserved areas of that city out, also recommend site just basically following the coastline of the city's known as Britain's Ocean City for good reason, because it will revolve around that and overlooking the area. What looks like is huge, fool trust, but what actually is actively operating? Royal Marines and Royal Navy base. That's right in the heart of. Of the city and they still have people that you can save people, training and things, and they actually do tours of that interestingly and I'm not sure how many military basis you can know many Abitur tour during the middle of the day. You can't do that well and it seems like one of the reasons they do that, too. Is You mentioned? This is not a new military base. Quite historical, so this is where the ships sailed out to fight the Spanish Armada for absolutely, and the city is very synonymous with Francis Drake. Who is the man who led the defeating of the Spanish the? He was from Plymouth. Things like the main shopping center in the city named optimus could drake circus, and you'll find lots of other places around the city named after him. You also have along. Along the Bob sell them this coupled medieval street. You have the Plymouth Gin distillery, which is actually the oldest gin distillery in the country, and of course you can go in then you can have tools that you can find out how the GIN is made. You can find out the botanic WHO's they use? Jin's at the end of that. So if you're GIN, Fan Pathak place to go we'll. Get into more detail on all these things. So in terms of the BARBICAN. For instance you mentioned the Plymouth Gin distillery. There are different pubs and things. Do you have a favorite pub? Is there someplace that we ought to check out? There is a place I feel bad commending it, but there's a web spins now Weber spins is a national chain across the country. If you live in the UK, you know about web of Spain's. They've actually got really nice bar that down on the Babacan. Babacan, which is right by the Plymouth Gin Distiller Selfish Nickel Jin from that, but they've got huge selection of our genes of a drinks there, but all the buildings there because they're all medieval style buildings that is then become ingrained within the actual itself garnered sovereignty. Highly recommend that this is places down the thyroid record. Think of any off the top of my head. Okay mix over a new kind of places and very traditional old pubs as well which great.

"What you drive away from your body as you ever. More focus on the pollutant You have put into. It is good health right you you as as the pollutant in your body occupies evermore Of Your time and and and who? You are physically than vitality and fitness. And you know the appropriate function of our Oregon Systems. And all that other stuff. There's less for room for that I think it's easy to see those things if we're talking about some substance but I and it's good that it's easy to understand that because I would like to suggest that you take that same kind of concept and you apply to non physical things that we could put into our body say Anger if anger is something we allow to pollute who we are That anger like most pollutants will grow We will If find ourselves you know with an escalating amount it'll be like one of those corona virus graphs from back win right And the anger will become evermore defining who we are and it will push out the other sweeter Pure better more useful Emotions and approaches. So that the natural compassion kindness and decency that are in. Most people will be pushed out the door incrementally by the ever rising power of of of anger that pollutant in our lives. What about pornography? And you know not to come off like The pastor from when you were a teenager but a pornography is something that you know this day and age and the last generation or so if pretty broadly embraced is a pollutant to our mind. Our our spirit to our a social attitudes and expectations and like other pollutants to our body. AH soul or mind it It tends to metastasis it You use a little bit and then you want to use a little bit more and ultimately it can become a priority all pollutants are potentially addictive. Meaning that something kicks in either of the mind or body which creates a a gnawing dependence upon that pollutant than that. Obviously as we mentioned is true of alcohol drugs you can also be true of of the the bad attitudes and emotional responses like anger it also that can be true of some of these pollutants we put into our our our mind and soul again like pornography there is undeniably addiction which can kick in and they're also in that pushing out of what is wholesome and good he. We can lose our understanding and even our Ability to Form Real relationships and find real satisfaction or happiness In the real world What a horrible damage that would be to a person or to American family There also are a pollutants of of of attitudes and even philosophies falsehood Typically is not very appealing But you know you can apparently Rapa Turda pretty enough bow and make it sell. And there are philosophies in attitudes abroad in the world and some of them do relate to things like politics or economic systems and these Pollutants of the mind and a society have the same effect as the other pollutants. We have discussed they Sink their roots into US and they tend to task the size and they tend to take us over they attend tend to become bigger batter and As they grow that's true of all pollutants to include some of these economic or political or or social ideas that are out about And being aware of this phenomenon and it just as you can become addicted to a substance or to a thought pattern or to behavior you can become. I believe functionally addicted to your relationship with even a political idea or a socioeconomic I idea and they Can leave the bounds of rational engagement and become something of a. I don't know passionate Kind of over the top Sorta deal How do we Avoid a pollutants. How do we handle them? The best way to avoid Pollutants and the addictive processes associated with them is to never try them or take them up in the first place the only time you can be confident of a escaping an addiction of any sort behavioral or attitudinal or chemical or physical is to never do that thing or use that substance to which you might potentially become addicted and how to do that or how to step out of the swamp into which we have stepped. Think you hold up a simple standard. Does this bring me closer to God? Does this bring me closer to my family? Does this bring me closer to the people around me? There's this make me want to do good or just make me want to do. Evil is this of light or is it of darkness and be honest in your assessment and that which is good and light go in that direction and that which is a dark and bad. Don't go in that direction and be aware of the lure and temptation. That may attach to that. Let's not pollute ourselves. Your hometown is a production of iheartmedia and it originates each week under the auspices of Radio Station W. H. am in Rochester New York. "Do people Assert an officially establish and subsequently defend those God given rights while of the history of the United States of America is any guide and it is It is through the shedding of blood. We mark this weekend. The sacrifice of those men and women who have laid down their lives to allow us to exercise these God given rights that may seem barbaric or sinister and yet history teaches us. It is the only way because those who would bind and press seem to a recognize other language nor respect in any other currency and it is of course an echo of a similar price paid for our spiritual liberty there is bondage of the soul. It comes about as a consequence of sin We are free to choose morally in the eyes of God and a we may will choose morally to do that which is wrong and I think that that may be pretty common. Meaning that some of us in some way at some time in our life in it to some degree have done exactly that and thereby bound ourselves with the consequence of our sin. We have stained our souls if you will made ourselves impure and unclean. Yeah how do we Escape the bondage of CNN its consequences. Well just as physical liberty secured by the shedding of Patriots blood Spiritual Liberty is secured by the shedding of the saviours blood. There is In the death of Jesus Christ the atonement of the son of God. There is a paying of the price for our spiritual and eternal liberty. And so this Memorial Day as we remember those who gave their lives to provide for our social political and cultural freedom let us remember he who gave his life to pay for our a spiritual freedom. I believe that understanding these two things will enhance our appreciation of them. Both those who we honor this weekend and he who I hope Every day of our lives we carry in our hearts remember also this last takeaway if freedom is from God then the suppression of freedom is from the devil and we ought to stand always on God's side and we ought always to stand in opposition to the devil. I'm Bob Blondes Brian. This is your home. Welcome back my friend. I'm Bob Blondes. Brian this is your hometown. You know We've had an opportunity. These recent three months to be reminded those of us with children at home of the great value of classroom instruction. I have nine children and I have had children in public schools now for thirty consecutive years. And I think I have another ten or eleven years to go and I naturally have Observed and appreciated over these long years. The instruction provided my children by teachers up at the school So many of them have done so much good and some of them Who HAVE DONE. The most good are among the most appreciated people in our lives our being myself. My Wife My children And so you know I. I've long been a fan and I've long been aware of the great potential. That teachers in classrooms have to To change lives for the the good in this shutdown of schools though. I appreciate certainly the efforts of teachers online and the various Very helpful programs there are for online instruction My sense is that you know looking at a screen or watching a video or sitting in zoom meeting will never provide any more than the tiniest fraction of good and true instruction and Compassionate leadership that can come from a truly committed. A teacher in a classroom of willing students So so I'm grateful An interesting thing about classroom is that it is most typically of a lecture sort and I don't say that critically because I love The lecture form of teaching. I love to have somebody stand up and teach me something. Explain something to me. Give me knowledge I for me at work one hundred percent. I'm so thankful for it. But the lecture of form of teaching is just one form of teaching It is a tool that's highly effective in the right environment. But of course in the wrong environment could be almost completely ineffective and I mentioned this not as a commentary on schools and teachers and the techniques they use but I mentioned it more as a lesson to those of us who might be parents right. Because here's one thing I have observed as a parent like. I said I have nine. Kids my. I do not assert by any means that makes me an expert or gives me any kind of insights Or IN ANY WAY INDICATES THAT. I have gotten it right or am in the process of getting it right because sadly I suspect Aware of you know A better anybody else. I would presume in all those areas that the answer would be in the negative not the affirmative. I have a far greater Tendency to screw up then to get things right but nonetheless. I'd like to make this observation that the lecture form of teaching so wonderfully effective with teachers in classrooms is only marginally and infrequently the right tool to us as parents in the home yes. We should be very clear with our children. We should instruct them directly. This is what's right. This is what's wrong. This is how you behave. This is how you don't behave. This is how this works. This is the way you do. There is absolutely an essential role for that form of parental instruction And leadership. But you'd be surprised. How infrequently hit is the right tool I think that more commonly and beneficially used for instruction in the home then the lecture method is the example. Method is so often like say when you know your children get to be a certain age and they start getting little Lippi Or they get adolescence on them and they start being creatures from another planet Pretty much hating you and thinking you're an idiot or whatever like that When you see squabbling and bickering and things of those sorts of amongst your children or insulin's a express towards you It is So often the natural impulse to see that as some inadequacy or failing of that child. Hey stop being a screw up And and here's the deal responsibility for our individual actions and personal moral choice or agency. They those are real things. And they apply to kids past a certain age to write When you're little teeny tiny they. They can't really make moral choices or just a little you know. I don't know what some kind of amphibian deal But they get to be a certain age eight nine ten something like that and they know right and wrong in naked make choices and and make you know that's when they become moral agents it at least to some degree I believe. But but here's my point When we look at little johnny or Suzy and say my gosh why are they not doing better say in the quarreling or the bickering or the selfishness? Or the whatever else like that. I'd come back to our teaching technique and while probably we have got the lecture portion of a down. Well don't do that. That's wrong okay. And again that's necessary and essential It is however Not Sufficient you need to get to the example way of teaching and children.

I'm saying they're truly listening. Bob Sherri you will hear on the show the BOB and Sheri Hot cast on the Bob and Sheri. We're talking about how sometimes in life you are left all alone in the world with no one to help you no one and no one's there you're on your own versus the world. My friend had just texted me. That was my childhood. Thomas joins US right now. They're Thomas Thomas has gone took on a rattlesnake snake in the shower. Yeah so I've got. I'm in college. I've got his mobile home that I'm renovating and living in it at the same time. So hop in the shower to get cleaned up get ready to head to school awesome. I'm in the shower or washing my hair and I feel something on my feet. Lean forward a sprinkle off the Shampoos I don't have it in my eyes look down. And there's a aroused. Make them off the one motion my body jumps up in the air. My left hand hits the wall and pushes me out. The ryen hits. The shower occurred and throws it open and I hit the ground and no joke. My heart literally felt like it was gonNA burst through my skin. It was pounding so hard the snake to snake stay in the shower right still in the TUB shower unit. You know sometimes if it's nice and warm you just can't get out though. I'm nervous like crazy. My body shaking like crazy this. I don't know what to do so I get on the phone and I call Poison control animal control and I said listen. I've got a rattlesnake in my house and they said Sir or you're not allowed to have a venomous snake without a permit. Don't understand I fight. This thing in this is not a pet I it it crawled in the house. So you're not allowed to have venomous snake without permits. Come on Thomas. You're making that up eight said that aren't making it up. They said it twice. I hung up from them holiday. `nother or place and they said basically the same thing and this was in Lakeland Florida going to college and he has. My body was shaking like crazy. I didn't know what to do. I was just like so nervous. Could not believe that. That statement was what I heard and I guess in Lakeland Florida. You don't have an ice chopper like the woman we talked to in Cheboygan. You wouldn't have that their way of not having to deal with it. Sure that's what the stock answer is Thomas. Because you can't share your shower it is so how did you down when I finally calmed down a little bit. I had a trash. Can I little small small trash cans up. I laid it down. One of those little talk kitchen trash can Later down in the shower and then took a big stick and poke him over into the thing and flip it up to now the snakes at least in the container that he can't get out that's good. That was good thinking nervous to do anything you know with with all. Make no excuses for yourself man. You went back in there and flip the rattlesnake into a little can. Are you kidding me. That's big time. And then what did you do then. Then I took it out. Put it in in In the back of a pickup truck and hauled it down to the swamp and dumped it out. Because I was just I. I've heard these stories about people trying to kill the saying I didn't have anything to kill it with a snake in the snake. Turn on them get them. You weren't invited and I'm taking you out. You know what though you have good Karma because you did not hurt a living. Yeah that's right very nice very nice Thomas. What what was this college that you were going to? We'll give it a plug this morning as southeastern Bible college southeastern the Bible all right. And what do you do these days. I actually worked for our boundary having kids out of juvenile detention hall laws for this man. What a man? That's fantastic. Good luck to you. Thank you Thomas. Hey y'all all right you buy. I can't believe how many of our listeners have had to go head to head with rattlesnakes Nyanza. Hey morning everyone chester. Oh Nice to have you here and you took on a rattlesnake while your son held it. Is that right where. I'm sitting now the pool and my two toddlers are just you know kind of playing around on that. Look Mommy I gotta worm and I looked down a little pygmy rattlesnake and he's holding it right at at the base of the mouth and his mouth is opening and health flapping and I think I'm probably the only mother whoever tells their four year old to go run and go get a nice because nobody was there. I didn't WANNA believe him. I'm trying to hold his hand and the snake down so I could cut his head off and I'm sorry I I must have bad Karma but you did the also having your foyer run in the House with an I get it outside to you but you get a knife and run with it to get some scissors to so so so has your little boy. But he was holding the snake by the math so it couldn't bite it was holding around at the base of the mouth.

They can go wherever they WANNA go. They don't WanNa do what you wanted to. We used to have cats and we'd take them in the car and they would sit there and get really quiet and then they would just hang their mouth open with that tongue out and you knew what was coming next. Yep that's right you know how sometimes and this is the last tip Dr Marty Becker the author of your cat the owner's manual has you remember how I'm not sure she's doing it anymore. But you remember how Kiki used to wake you up on a weekend morning. Yeah because she wanted to eat right. Dr Becker has to tips visit you. I read about that in the book. Dr Becker said that you should get down on your hands and knees and scratched it yourself. I'm going to tell you have done. Yeah and you know. There's nothing like scratching on something a cat spin on when you're allergic that it gets underneath your nails and then maybe later you touch your I. It's a great idea. Yeah so you would like Oh. I didn't know that they had a name for it. But I love Detroit style pizza and look at this. Here's Collie flowers steak. It's a big thing that you I for At tossed entice lex. It looks beautiful. What's the yellow stuff it turned it yellow? What do you think that was saffron? It actually solely kind of turns that Color Purple Yams have you ever had a purple Yam. Yes I have not had eating flowers. Komo thank you snicker doodle Hamas. The whole thing is weird for me. Yeah there's been Nella Hamas supposed to be going against what it's supposed to be you bob and Sheri at it now get got it now. I tuned store or Google play. I learned something so interesting and and Romantic I just have to share Certain Birds Songbirds in particular. Their brains are designed to help them find and mate for life. Yeah so listen to. This is so so cool so a finch a little finch Their brain is about as big as Like a chickpea rights you picture in that little teeny tiny brain and and They learn the songs of their father females too when they're in the nest but they don't perform they analyzed they. They learned the songs that their father sings. And then when it's time for them to find a mate if their own They listened to mail finch's singing and they analyze. I analyze every detail and they compare it to her the the father song so this little baby female fench has heard her father song. And and she compares every detail and she rejects mates until she finds one that she believes Most closely fits that song. Oh and that is the mate that will help raise those young babies until one of them or both of them. Die these this girl. isn't wonderful. finches are birds have their own own little song or if they have like finch songs no all birds have all song birds verts have their own league are often their own. Thank yeah We make woodpeckers don't they all it's Well we may not be able to distinguish the difference because we're not bird people were not burr. I think it's Burgers They looked into Different kinds because there are multiple varieties of inches and and they looked into all these different types of inches. The male finch the way his brain is designed. He recognizes the songs of other meals but he copies his father's and if he doesn't learn perfect memorize and perform his father's song within ninety days of being born being hatched. He'll never get it. He'll still saying but the song he sings will be a mess and he won't find a mate. Oh No that's sad. So you've got you've got at the female who learns her father song. And that's how that's how she chooses her main and you've got the male who learned his father's song and that's how he gets a mate eight and finches the female inches like really elaborate songs with lots of syllables. kind of like how human females tend to me more attracted to lyrics in some ways the music so wh- which what happens to the To the bird that is alone. He doesn't learn his father song he still. He's still sayings but he made no no female. It's not it's not a good song It's kind of like you didn't pay attention at home and so you end up alone and miserable And these are songbirds that mate for life and this is how they choose their mate and this is why they stay. You know who never got respect. When I I was a kid birdwatchers? They were always thought of as being weird oddball. oddballs they'd be pictured like in a movie or in a book as having these Spectacles round and they're wearing these big baggy Bermuda shorts with a walking unstick and binoculars and like a safari hat. They were always made fun of when I was a kid. Oh He's a bird watcher. That one over there and yet burgers orders. That's the word Some people. You would not expect. I read something on this the other day. Some of the people not expect to be Burgers Are Like Mick Jagger Mick Jagger is a burder you know. My husband is a bird guy. We have binoculars scattered all over our house and books about birds in identifying birds and so a living and I were in the kitchen talking and she said what is that is that a woodpecker and I look out. I don't want Kevin's like ten bird. feeders I'm not kidding I look out. And there's this red tufted headed big white woodpecker. They're wild looking packing at the bird feeder. So I take a zoom in on my phone and I take a picture and I texted to Kevin and I said we have a red headed woodpecker pecker and he replies back that is not a redhead. It would pecker those have Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah and. We've been remember other things going on that's such such woodpecker. But it was a woodpecker. It was a wooded acker we got. I mean it wasn't like it was a dock. We got that my we have a hummingbird feeder right in front of the kitchen window. And it's the damnedest thing it takes about one day to put that liquid in there and here they come here they come and if you if you can. They can't see me for some reason the reflection they can't see me so they don't fly away. It's amazing to watch them just hover. It's you said yourself. How does that creature do that? I don't you the next time. You're standing there watching the hummingbirds take a picture picture so that we can see okay. I will get doesn't my phone is not always with me. Then I come back in. The things already gone come visit so many interesting. Getting things happen at your house. And you documented. Why like the like the raccoon that got him a trash can the raccoon trash can the dog breaking in and eating all fitting Kiki's McKie's food and the three coke cans on top of the recycling bag? Because you couldn't put them in. I'm actually going to take a picture of that the next time. I'm going to take a picture. Also of the two coasters with Mary's cocaine instead she puts the next thing. I told her that the other day she she was driving and she was on the phone I said. Do you know what I'm looking at right. And she laughed. You should create. We'll we'll make a gallery of just respects if Bob Alright okay picks and that's a good thing to call it too by the way it shows here on this show Bob and Sheri hot cast on the Bob and Cherry. I wanted to speak to a specific part of our audience right now and that audience is either people who hate their jobs or someone who is married to someone who hates his or her job because I have four things that I found in the Huffington post on. How when you hate your job? Negative negative things can happen to your body L.. It's so bad for your mental and physical. It totally is. I never really thought about this. 'cause we're lucky enough to have jobs that we love But you know we there have been moments limits and in my career. Yeah it is lucky where I've hated I've loved the job that I hated a few people around me. Thank they're gone anyway Here's what happens if you just hate your job. It can cause headaches. The extra stress can make the muscles in your head neck and shoulders tighten up which can cause migraines and tension headaches. Thanks so I mean that sounds like an everyday thing and it sounds like I'll how could you know my hating. This actually caused me to physically feel pain. But evidently it can and if that's happening on a regular basis that is not good. It can mess with your mental health. Boy I'll say especially if you feel like you're not being treated fairly at work or appreciate it remember. I told you when there was a time when I just couldn't stand some of the people we were working with. I go for a walk and you would say your. Ib Out of my mind. And I go back to that same place. And even though they're gone it triggers up. That's what the mind can do It can mess with your sex life. Studies have shown that juggling personal stress and professional stress can lower a woman's sexual desire and too much stress also can lower testosterone on production in men which lowers your Lebedko. I can totally see that if you are just so ticked off by the time you walk through the door. Do you really have a focus to want to get involved romantically. Makes you tired too makes fired. Yeah that's right. It's interesting how it would lower the debate of the tech the testosterone of a man be. I don't know why that would happen. But somehow automatically does if if you're just all tense with your job and and finally your appetite changes. I bet it increases your adrenal glands start releasing more of a hormone that causes feelings of hunger so so you end up. This is interesting you end up eating more in general but you also creeps sweets. Yeah and so you're going to put on way because your your misery is looking for a quick boost exactly and your body doesn't your body doesn't understand job. Misery our bodies are you know much much more primitive than a reality bodies like we need some. We need a boost when you boost seabright sugar so if you are one of those persons who is on the fence as to whether or or not. You should continue doing this job. Because it's a paycheck and sometimes you know.

Leyla you can't talk and he's calling him really insulting names and insulting his intelligence and my little brother his little is now starting to cry and he gets really scared and my mom comes outside to intervene and I come barreling from out of nowhere. Now if my little brothers five I'm seven I come imperilling out of nowhere. The row myself on top of this kid and begin beating the living crap out of kidding. I'm Paul Does the kid they K- was probably eleven. Kevin I am punching this kid and I have this kid down on the ground. And I'm like like Boo Boo punching the hell out of his face screaming at him about picking on my baby brother other and they pulled me off of them. Now is the last time anybody picked on my little brother in that neighborhood so your mother was telling this story and you had no record. I don't remember it and my daughter says that's that's pretty dramatic. My daughters were like. That's right my mom's always careers and I'm flashing forward to some of the other altercations. I've back and I'm realizing pride there. Well I'm just realizing that I'm on on the one hand. Look at me defending my brother. Seven years old on the other hand. I'm really glad I made the choice. I made to try to get the billy on out of my bad self MHM because I looked terrible. Orange it just makes me. That is interesting that you did not really recruit that because that's a very startling moment. Yeah my childhood was so filled with violence and starbucks can't keep all of them. That's wild you hear a story like that Yeah I don't remember that but little tiny Glad I broke that habit sharing it here on this show Bob and Sheri cast on the Bob and Cherry. Everybody who listens to this show knows that my father had a lobster Mr Restaurant and I love lobster so one of our listeners. Sent me a clip of Jim Gaffe again. Who is one of the funniest people on the planet? And he's talking about lobster because all of New England. You guys love your seafood and it's just disgusting blocks vacationing on Cape Cod. Because I'm white and this seafood restaurant. This guy came to our table. Wasn't even our way to rekindle cutting up. The boss Lobster is the reason why I was like. I thought I'd order what I want. I wasn't really in the mood for bug me joining us right now. Is Jim GATT the game. He is the author of food. A love story. Good Morning Jim. Good morning for having the funniest thing about that stand up doing was the fact that you're looking at all people from Massachusetts doing that. That horrible New England accent it it just Absent coming from their crack me up our thanks you know. I mean people in Boston and New England they totally have a sense of humor about the whole thing. And you know it's you know. Even though like New England is has provincial pry. You know they're they understand. Not everyone is going to love Swab. Stir as much as you know. Everyone should yeah. Well I was really glad when you come out with this book because some of your philosophies on food have made me laugh till I cried in your position on cake is one of my favorite things ever about an maybe share with Bob a little bit. Why we're so hypocritical about cake? And when he can be eaten Jim. There's just something about I feel like we're always trying to find ways to eat cake so you in the morning. It's like you can't have cake for breakfast but you can't have Unless it's a pancake you're GONNA have. You're not gonNA have cake for breakfast. You'RE GONNA have have fried cake covered in sugar. You know you know or a Muffin is just a bald cupcake. No difference and then there's those many offense which are Kinda like muffin vitamins. Kinda silly Burger King. Yeah well you you know. It's Burger King. I travel so much and I'm always in airports and I'm always you know And Burger King. I'm sure that there are people that love Burke but to me. It almost seems like they're trying to do things worse than McDonald's and they're just making products and so you know like there's serving Tater tots for breakfast. It's like come on Burger and they have those weird apple fries. Yeah it's just it's just you know they're just bored. It's like we had a bag of apples laying around and some leftover onion ring Greece. Let's see what we can put together with with that. But you you sit. You said somewhere along the way though you'll drive by Burger King at a certain time and you'll feel like an attraction. Yeah I know I know my whole thing was all these fast food places is that you know. There's you know they're they the appeal to the child and US rank these primary colors. It's just convenient. You know particularly with McDonald's you know you you know there's a consistency there. You know what it's GonNa be. It's like you know how much it's going to cost. You even know how bad you're going to feel afterwards so it's there's an appeal to that whereas you know if you you haven't been to a restaurant and you don't know Tim have you always been 'cause when I when I'm looking when I was reading your book food. A love story. Our guest is the Common Tim Gaffe again. It's not just that you've thought casually about food it's like you've thought about nothing else but food since you were off to talk. Has It always been kind of this way for you. You don't think my entire life was completely food obsessed but I think that when I started writing stand up over twenty years ago I was always searching for topics that were were somewhat universal and then I really kind of delve into NFL. Like food was something where I could just go on a tear and I wouldn't have to worry about introducing the topic of hot pockets. People would know what it was and I could just have a point of view. What kind of follow that? Point of view through that is such a relief for me to hear. Because I'M NOT GONNA lie. I had this mental picture of you as this sad faced big little boy. "Canarian whatever you're gonNA live off week live off a lot of fish that you guys excellent fishing up there I mean that is so bob sting carrying a canoe factor no no not at all because like the like the experience the stories you would have had you gone and picked up sticks for three days without bathing with other men you know here's the deal you would commute ago so I would have the stories love yeah so many I don't know I know but the actual going through with it for like three days and the one in the panhandle I mean it was in the swamp near nothing that had a guide eaters and stuff yeah of the two I would have picked the stick trip and here's why no gators less risk of snakes and you're not it doesn't require like marksmanship or wilderness craftiness to pick up a stick you think I could handle that pretty well I could have blown everybody away to be honest with you know okay what I'd be doing behind their back I brush my teeth Oh yeah I would say would know and they were talking smack about they probably would they said he had fresh breath it'd be like yeah man can pick up the stick candy to rough it do that the father never took me again on that duck hunting excursion who's always kind of disappointed what probably was I remember I was probably talking to each st yourself not to be shut up and read it once and then you read it again leave this is Bob and Cherries and believe me you're GonNa like this Bob because it's about food eaten okay you like food you like to get eaten on you know let's just pause for a moment from your listeners because I I've just noticed I've been talking about food plot and how much I like to put my my head inside of a pizza box but I am not a big guy you have some kind of ours Jackrabbit Matab well you know what I get in probably nine thousand steps a day that's just wonder by the way before you before you get your thinking sticking me off I carry I hate the updates on the iphone I'd just cannot stand it so I carry the iphone with me when I'm walking the dog to see missteps getting right so I forgot to take the iphone the other day and I go to check the steps and it's got a new feature that let's be done on average during the week and it's saying to me by the way your average is down and I'm going by the way the one other thing criticizing me and I'm talking to it it's like well I left I left it at home I got his buddy steps in left home okay excuses excuses spy read what I'm about to share the thought of you because for eating and you know we give you a hard time about it but the truth is is like if my grandma were alive she could she would pay money need to sit and watch you eat nothing gave her more joy than to see someone enjoy food and you really enjoy Beckett works not a crime I have you know I mean everybody knows that food is the most delicious when you're really hungry right yeah well now we know why it's not just because you're hungry what's the reason when you are hungry and legit hungry not board hungry because we all know the difference right there's a difference between being really hungry and and there's nothing on TV so you go to cookie dough legit hungry there are a couple of specific types of brain cells that are responsible for changing your taste preferences when you're hungry you're hungry these brain cells suppress your aversion to bitterness so food that you might not ordinarily love is delicious yes when you're hungry because your taste is actually changed by your brain chemistry because your brains up they're going hey Cara Mia like Broccoli leany but you need to eat or you'll die and so it suppresses that averse oh it actually tastes different to you it's not that you're you're just you want put anything in your in your brain is signaling it's because you're hungry your brain and your brain wants to be fed because that's how it sticks alive so your brain is like this sky is not eating we need to do something here so it does two things on the one hand you're super hungry it activates this craving.

Let's start out with some good news here today folks apple may soon so it's going to be so much better I'm so I'm so pissed off at apple right now watt go ahead it's the updates on my phone oh I thought it was gonna be that they accidentally released a bunch of Safari user information into China no did that happen yeah you haven't read the whole article I just saw come across Max Max's right it's Dedi did the update which I don't want as you know I don't like any change unless it has to do with making the environment better or it's medical and so it forced me I don't have like the thumbprint to open it up or or the the numerical openings I just don't want it I just want you know if if somebody steals it I what are they going to get really you know you just want to be left out I just want to be left alone so they forced me to do the thumbprint thing and now and sometimes it doesn't work thumb is not exactly where it should be and then Mary said we should have used your index finger you screw that up I can't do anything right why do they have to change all the things you don't have to have that to get in you can bypass that you just go in they yell at you go in there and go now I don't want anything I want to just be able to get in here without any I couldn't figure out how to bypass at this time so now I have to do that and some of the changes are stupid do you know how if you turn off the ringer on the phone off little bell has across that's gone that's gone you know what the replaced it with a tight the teeny weeny little sign that says it's it's off yeah I don't like it either stupid they should've left the bill the bill was flying Oh and the volume when you would like tap the volume it would show you the volume and now it's a bar in the top left corner of the screen that's any is that where that went to couldn't find see the other one was fine the most used emojis now most used emojis are these little horses does that look like something a fifth grade girl would use why did they do that I don't have it looked at my most use emojis mouse it is not about let me see I can't get in there it is all right so irritating all right emojis approach I don't like the changes in my in my email I don't like any I don't think I've ever complained about an apple up date I don't like this update at all right there you've never complained about an update I don't think so I've never disliked update as much like this one okay let me see my emojis there's some of them there's the the peaceful son the thumbs-up which is the one I use the most the I which I it's disturbing looking when you send it I just kind of like it the red heart the googly crazy face yeah minor there acts I don't know what happened to yours out of these stupid horse yeah you got Purple Worsens I've got a little girl got plus no a Tusk bore laugh crying tough one to work you you save yourself how someone getting text me something where I go you know what this calls for a wild boar tusks in the grip of uncontrollable land recently used most use a purple unit I'm blowing a kiss that would have that it's true I have one of the ones that showed up for me was a cow with its head exploding and rage I didn't know that existed do they determine something through saying algorithms that maybe looks at what we tell the cow is what a cow's head is exploding like the cow is a cow explosion without much listen I'm just waiting waiting for the moment where I go oh yeah the wild boar laughing that's coming today why would why would a cow feel that way less it hasn't been milton about a week outraged outrage and there's the girl with the purple hat I have the girl with the Purple Heart to next don't have the Unicorn blowing up a purple balloon like you do so anyway I just am so irritated with them right now white that's the basic thing why can't they just leave me alone I want you know it's like it's like a remote when you get if you get a new system in your house with television takes forever to figure out where everything is once I figure it out they change it and I know they do it just to kind of a we're still in your life we're apple and don't forget about us don't take for granted we're still in your life we're gonNA focus you right now on the phone in the new things I was I was at a wedding over the weekend with a bunch of people that I was meeting for the first time and signed to send something on my phone I'm like Oh I hate this update and the the guy sitting across from the table said well it makes time just to Cloyne it aw it load it while I was asleep that's what happened to me yeah can you decline Do I have to stay up all night do it at one o'clock in the morning as much longer why would you say that because it's odd planned obsolescence I can't believe it's lasted as long as it has just fun at a four live he's got a five of five but you know what ends up happening as the new updates command the older equipment doesn't instead of eleven hundred I can send the wild you're laughing with tusks gala Mars Review sent right to your phone heck's movies you eight eight five shares and this week the People's movie critic is Reviewing Gemini Man Starring Will Smith That's Friday with Lamar the people's movie critic Gemini Man you know I hate it when some yeah look a new story comes out right and then somebody says somebody no says oh I suspected that from the beginning I knew that that person was getting no you didn't eat it all right so I just I just made that statement I actually thought this before for AL's comments came out as soon as I heard the song blurred lines and actually listened to blurred lines and I'm not anti blurred lines I mean it sounded like the Marvin Gaye Song I still I was okay with added in a lot of a lot of sounds are borrowed with different songs but was something that was disturbing about not only the lyrics and what they were saying but the name of the song because I was brought up when a woman says no it's no no means no so ferrall has come out and he said I wish I hadn't written that Song I would not have written it today he said in an interview with Jay q he let me see where I can pick it up here when there started to be an issue with it lyrically I was like what are you talking about there are women who really he liked this song connect with the energy just gets you up women sing those kind of lyrics all the time so it's like what's rape e about this and then I realized that there are men who use the same language when they're trying to take advantage of a woman and it doesn't matter that it doesn't matter and that is not my behavior it just matters how it affects women I realized that we live in a chauvinist culture in our country I hadn't realized that before dinner realized that with some of my songs.

"Well here named. Are you ready not bad shot. Oh what a great. That's a great name. Two hundred thousand golfed the year we had this. This dude turns it into this big business to add entrepreneurship and at seventy foot yacht scranton. Thank you thank thank you brandon. I haven't played golf in several years and i'm i'm starting up again with my friend <hes> well. You know john john landlords. He's he's been pushing pushing me and i'm going to go back to it. My foursome broke up. They went to different parts of the country and i just didn't wanna play with strangers but i decided i'm gonna go out there and give it a shot again. Now strangers bob or friends we haven't met you. I hate hate the fruit as a matter of fact. I hate that phrase more than meeting new people. I know what made that pop into my yeah. I think it's really hard for it's hard as grown up to make new friends anyway. I think it's harder for grownup men to make friends and i'm guessing that once you do that golf for something that all the other golfers have their own foursomes and when my guys <hes> went two other one guy went to two guys went to in eastern state in one guy went to <hes> arizona anyway. The deal is this i can go out in a public course. Let's say i'm on vacation and it's just me and they and i i wanna play well. You can't play solo so the course will hook you up with three people that only three guys have but threesome foursome so you're playing with three guys you don't know i don't have a problem with that at all and i'll sit with one of the guys in the cart. Obviously and i get to know him for a while. Okay okay with that just when you're on vacation that's that's a a meeting and we're playing and we're moving. We're not making plans to get the wives together for hootenanny okay because it's on because you're on vacation spoken agreement that this is a one and done oh yeah you're the guys from someplace else. We're not going to get together so you're afraid if you did that at home. Where you live that it might fall. These relationships might follow you home and there's a chance that the person that ameet okay. If it's at home is my cup of tea. You know he's a great guy and we have similar interests or we get along or whatever there's i. There's that chance there's also a chance that i <hes> won't like something about him and i may just be gnawed gnawed outta my mind by his wife. I was about to suggest that we should develop. An app called. Find my foursome but i can see how that could be abused very ho. Oh you right there. Yeah you're right. There are first day in operation. We'd be like perver- that's right yeah so it's not that i'm i'm unfriendly. I'm very very friendly but i just don't know. This is an awful thing to say. I the judge. I don't know that i'm at this point in my life interested in starting some new relationships. Why is that. I don't have to explain what it is is. Just that's what i want but i'm just wondering why that you don't have the time and energy for it. Do you feel feel like why bother do you feel like oh. It'll just be one more thing that i'm obligated to all of the above and then add to that the fact that my favorite things in in my week are being here with <hes> with youth three and then having dinner with my wife live quietly once in a while she'll make a cocktail well every night by once in a while we mean day but you know and and will sit there and i'll just say so. Did you hear from so and so how is so and so there's enough people that i have going on right now in my life. I also you know have my children. I have a pregnant <hes> daughter. I mean there's there's a lot going on. Take on a new friendship right now and i know it's wrong. I think my husband feels this way. It does he really. I don't think we're alone. You know we're not you. You make a and we had a thing you and i were talking about. You make the majority of your friends by the time you're thirty five lifetime friends by the time you're thirty but you know what's sad about that for those of us that move around a lot you know you yeah don't necessarily have no. That's true that's true. That's very true and that's why people who say well. I'm going to retire and my wife. Hyphen is going to move to utah or wherever we always we'll have the desert blah blah blah and they moved there and they leave everybody behind and after a while it i guess kinda lonely but there are people that are so big. Try hard to meet new people. There are people that are so good at doing that. They pack up and move new. Keep people yeah i mean. Do you think the todd is ever going to have a day in his life where he doesn't have friends. Just that way. Yeah i mean i. I don't have a problem you know if i'm out and about i'll meet somebody he's good at making friends. There was one. I was traveling with heather <hes> in our digital departments the first time she's ever flown sloane and she we were at the airport wing for flight and she was like oh my god they're right. There's not a person that you won't become friends with house sitting there. There was an old guy that was eating next uh-huh by himself and we just start having a conversation i i want. I i could see you doing that. I have seen you doing that. I want to continue with this next and i want to do a we. We had a party at my house and my former female partner said something you picked up on that was very funny about me all right and and and i kinda ties into what we're talking about making friends. It's five in cherry blow here on this show cherry hot cast on the bob and cherry. We were just talking if you're just joining us about how a lot of people myself included are at least at this point in my life not interested in making a lot of new friends or or or maybe any new france i have friends i mean i know guys who have very defensively well there. There are guys that i know who really don't have friends. Their wives will say to me for at a party. You know <hes> thanks for being so nice jack. Jack does not have any friends. I said come mind. I have a lot of friends so i don't really need to add but anyway that brings me to this moment at <hes> a birthday party at my house for me. <hes> a few a couple of weeks ago breath and <hes> people came that i hadn't seen in quite a while including one of my former co host when i was doing television <hes> beautiful brilliant woman they more quinn and so they're passing the mike around and people do toast for me and it was is very embarrassing because you know to be the center of attention now and you hate appraised right an so morris said <hes>. I've learned a lot from bob bob. <hes> showed me how to to address the crowd which i had never done before because she had never been a performer before and i learned how how to talk one on one to people he she said so bob always addressed the crowd and i talk one on one to people at that moment sherry spoke up and said things haven't changed and and it's it's just you know i was on stage age when i was sixteen so i'm used to talking to a large group of people. There's a certain way you do it. You can't be intimate you have to you know hit the back of the room and i'm more comfortable doing that than i am then one on one sometimes someone say get to know. You and i don't think i'm alone. I think a lot of people are like this. I'm you you know despite this job and basically kind of shy once. I get to know you and then it's totally different but you gotta be who you are you know and so bringing in new people unless it's just happens magically i. I don't see myself working at did but if you want it to play golf again you're going to have to make a little bit of an effort. I know and you said it's something that i didn't know they won't let you go out and play by yourself some priest in caddyshack so of his life that night well that's that was that was a the pride of course oh private. It's not like oh whatever peak traffic time on a golf course they will let you do it no but if it wasn't like could you leave work today and go by the golf course at four o'clock in the afternoon and play by yourself and i when i was learning that's what i did. I was so embarrassed to play with anybody else. This is years and years this ago. You know that i would do that sometimes. Try to figure out how to play. It's complicated game you can you can do that sometimes but you can't show up at a golf course at ten o'clock on saturday morning and say i believe playing alone i know because i always try to get your back and support you and be a good gold best friend. I would offer to go play with you you but it just takes forever. It's just i. I don't want you going with the offered to help brother out and then he rejects you hurt if it was an indoor sport. Maybe she'd offers more sincerely. I just have to worry about you know you too hot. You don't have to necessarily rejection because you know. I wasn't gonna go. I just said you know what you could have said all that was that's so sweet sweet. Thank you for being willing to reject. It hurt my stay right there because i've got something i want to. I want to settle in the free bob and sheri instantly get the podcast the gas and bob and sheri fun size. You should not be offended when i said that you're you're going along if i was playing golf by myself you're going along for the ride justice. Mu company said he's not something i would want. You're going to play yes. I was gonna play too. I have golf clubs and cute outfits..

"For a redo with a better outcome. But life is about to give you Bob Lacey. A chance for a redo with a better outcome. Not not in all aspects. I'm going back to Roger Williams College all last night, a longtime ago, we had a listener who had birds and she named him Bob and Sheri, and the Sherry bird, literally packed the Bob bird to death. And that was a sad outcome for Bob and his feelings were hurt. He was very crushed by that. I was always surprised that Bob didn't peck himself to death being so, so close in the case he didn't have the opportunity to Sherry Burgess was such a bully and just packed Bob to death. So Ashley joins us right now. And here's your second chance, Bob. Here's your moment of redemption. Ashley for you. Oh Ashley, you named a bird after me. Hi, yes, I have two parakeets, and we named them Bob. And Sheri, both of us, that's great. Thank you. We had a few different options thinking of maybe like Lucy, and Ricky or so Lewis chewy or friend of mine suggested bird Reynolds. But when I thought of Bob and Sheri, my husband Koda Hughes, like oh, that's perfect. We have to we have shared till Cody. Thank you. What color is Bob? Is he blew? Sherry is actually blue. Bob, he's mostly white. And I thought he was really kind of fancy looking out fiery. That's that was my alarm to wake up. Oh, no. No. So, so the Bob Berg is mostly white fancy. Yeah. So we thought he's really fancy looking and no thought it was it. He looked like a Bob 'cause we thought he's kind of like looking 'cause he's like fancy. You know, I was fancy. He has a different like hair or something. Keys actually, when we got him because we just got him from a pet store. And so they have listed under you know, like blue parakeets are white parakeet, and the white ones are actually listed under the fancy parakeet. Let's fine. This is great news for you. This is Bob bird, healthy, and is the Sherry bird being nice. Yes. Actually Bob is a little like I've noticed, he's very like dominate when it comes to food, and I didn't know this until after I'd already named them, but it's pretty funny like he will like nudge. Sherry out of the way to get to the food bowl. I feel for him. Spurt is experiencing my life, so he's mostly whitey's fans and he's trying to eat focus and he's trying to eat that food focus. He's tried to eat. Yeah. When I put like one of those, there's like these, these stick things are like treats their lights not it's been hunting staff mob, is really like territorial about is nuts. I love those in real life. Did you get them like a toy or little mirror to preen because don't they enjoy that. Yeah. They have a lot of toys, and they have a year, and they do spend most of their time sitting perched front of the near both of them, they're bonding to each other. It does put why sit down. I've never had a parakeet. Do they sing do they were like what, what kind of what is there? What do they make noises of any kind yet they do chirp? I've only had for a little over. So they're still pretty quiet as they're getting used to their strandings. I think they'll get louder as they as they get to know my family, and they'll, they'll start talking more. They can imitate noises to like I'm trying to teach with like that. We've been working on that. How's that coming along? Not good so far. They'll, they'll get there. They'll get there. Yeah. Anything so while I think so how long assuming that? Bob doesn't get pecked to death again a long parakeets live, like how what is the average lifespan? I don't know what the average is. But this is my six my six birds that I've had and a similar to long life. Yeah. Live like up to ten or fifteen ten to fifteen years, so I was hoping for more hoping for more for Bobby though, with the Bob and Sheri birds, the more hostile the managerial environment is the more likely they are to hold stuff to stick, stick around just I. I, I have two toddlers, so it could be a little hostile for sure. We're used to periodically go over to the cage and say. I think you need a cage.
