"In the western tradition every single philosopher has the in hero who is good is building off of plato and every single one of them who is bad has specifically denied. plato plato. Not because he was right about everything but because his trajectory was so correct his trajectory into the forms and following him. In that way. Like that gets you like so much. So that like i mean. The authors of the new testament are lake using platonic philosophy at like for people who are like. Well do i need plato. I've got the bible. The bible has not because plato is has influenced the bible necessarily but like because he was so true then the author of all truth. Christ can't help but have had similarities to what we see in plato. Because if plato was right about something then everyone else who's right is gonna agree with plato in some ways and so i got gotta plug plato and the best one to start with. There's a dialogue. Called the i also and that's where i would start elsa sobriety for not the second survivor the first out sobriety. So i would start with the first lady's interesting now. I think that chew on it raza with it disagree with it. Fight with it but engage with it takes. That's what you gotta do. Take your time and reread it and fight with it. I think the the wrestling with plato. Plato was a wrestler. Plato as his stage name in the wrestling ring. That's the real wide back right. Yeah bob shoulders probably is the better english idiom for a broad shoulders. But i think the fact that plato. His name means broad shoulders wrestling. Maybe you have to wrestle with him. And i think israel which means fights god wrestles with god. I think that those names really do mean something. Well got to engage with it. You've got to get into the thick of it and you've got to start not sorry not to imply that our listeners do not already engage and start so but you've got to just stay in the fight you've got to stay in the fight the mental fight and looking through things and wrestling with it and being a with getting upset and have finding ideas that really challenge you to the core of what you think and saying okay.

"Country go has a direct shot through oklahoma yet. It does bob wills. And the texas playboys. The guy's got big by going to tulsa take me back to tulsa. I mean it is. It is straight up oklahoma. Yeah a merle. Haggard is is an oklahoma guy you know. He is known for oddly enough. A pothead has okie from muskogee where we don't smoke dope and marijuana you do but this this train movement from the guys who got sick of the nashville catch and that's where those guys took off west and some of them stopped and oklahoma and some of them came into texas willie and waylon and those guys but really oklahoma has its roots in all of this western movement. Sure country music right sure. What two things to that point. I would say that you know we a long time ago when y'all were probably in your forties or so the usa call country music country and western and now they don't anymore country western thing. You know country. Music from nashville. It took a left turn and a lot of these cats just kept going straight and doing the same thing they'd always done and that's one of the reasons i think turnpike is is so demonstrative of this is because it's western like it's not just country and red dirt like there's a lot of western theme to but if you look around the country you guys like todd snider in tyler children's turtles simpson. They're not doing anything whole lot. Different than the red dirt or texas and oklahoma boys are doing and gals. But they're just they're still doing their own thing. It just sounds a little bit different. Because they're doing it where they are. Yeah sure wherever they are is not really the establishment in nashville nashville country. Kinda turn into. I don't know what you call this is to me. This is like the like the glam rock. The cock rock stuff in the eighties. Where all you had to do is dressed the same. Yeah and you're in the jonah. All the nashville guys. I have to do is put some boots on and get a hat and automatically your country well in this whole using pop stuff tractor rep move where the twain and it is just like what are you talking about. Man on swanson is the dude from parks recreation and one of his funny little lines. I hate to things lying and skim milk water. that's lying. that's how. I feel about a lot of quote unquote country music. These days is that its music. That's lying about being and there's nothing kind of i'll make a point on that for michael's talking we started like what we are what i specifically hate about country. Music is everything we just talked about. This stuff. Out of nashville. Just a waste of time in. What's funny about national music. Is it sells. you know it sells and it's it's meant for the dome masses show poison sold millions of albums again. Exactly yeah i mean at some point. dan. I know that you probably weren't more at this time. It back in the eighties. There was a time when the most masculine men all look like women and i reverse age jokes. Don't work as well as the old age trying to establish. I know but one time what we consider to be like a real man was guy whose hair was teased out. Robing like david coverdale fantastic era believable man you to spend a lot of time on your on your art shadow. But that's kind of the way. I look at nashville country. Now you know it's it's all it's all image all no substance. Yeah all market appeal and really just making a list of all the stuff that makes you country like okay. So we got grandma. Sweet tea in r- on the front porch and so one of us has chiggers in there. Were a hunting or a catfish. And the real girl who's a country girl likes to do noodling for catfish. You know that kind of stuff mentioned a truck you got to mention. Yeah shrug but you know what that goes back to today. Alan co because you know. State steve goodwin in the greatest country. Mama gone out of prison. But he's making a list and that's kind of a character of this but I think that rid country music is is legit a biopic of the way we live. We live in a small town. If you walk out just throw rock out there. You gonna hit somebody that lives a lot of the stuff that you hear in rid country music. It seemed legit to me. How sure it's rural without telling people day your rural yeah you know it is and some of the songs and tower children's another great example but some of these songs here are sort of a commentary on the issues that affect us now in a life that we live. But they're not they're not talking about an ef two fifteen -sarily but you know that that these are who these people are and it's authentic and that's what you're not getting out of the authenticity these means that they don't have to mention it all the time. Well so we mentioned jerry. Jeff walker the great jerry jeff walker from new york new jersey mccain aggie. They're not doing it for the people at home. They've given for the people we're doing for you mentioned bob shoulders he was still water guy stillwater. Oklahoma state university in stillwater seems to be kind of where a lot of this like melting pot came together. An eskimo joe's and all these guys just kinda playing. How about a guy. Like ray wylie hubbard so funny story. My i think my grandma. My granddad drove a bus for a little bit in the late seventies country that is entry now it's countries guess who and what's even better than that is. He was like no one for the school or he just drove a bus. Y- just a wild unsavory life at one point. And then he sobered up and then became a baptist preacher at some point. That's a song waiting to happen. I i'm i'm here for granddaddies bus. Yeah but he drove a bus for jerry jeff walker okay for a little bit and dove mcclinton for while now denver mcleod minded by the way. There's a book i when i was too. Well there's a book pratt's by the way. Sauna walked in about hillary clinton at the music selection of books by the way. We're kinda right here in front of the texas history section but just down the way there And david have some incredible music history books. They've got some on display area. There's a book on the telecaster there. Yes and we'll pick up. We'll be talking about the castro and by the way if you're trying to find the selection of books there's helpfully assign over at this as music so james mcmurtry mentioned yes roots right here in our part of the world. Because his dad he's from archer city texas and that's where the last picture show was was filmed. They called aniline in the movie. But that's about archer city. Entering was a small just like a little outcropping of folks between gargle in order city. So that's where they came from. But james james is one of the greatest songwriters what am.

"But by the same response. Do you like turnpike troubadours. I would say that in our live audience here. There's definitely majority in the turnpike crowd camera. People i'm gonna cave. I got sick. What he picked the jury i'm going to. I'm gonna canvas partner on this jason before you before we started listening. This did you ever listen to turbine. I never listened to a song. I didn't even know they had the jenin lies and smoking. Whatever that was. I had no idea. Okay so i knew that they played at the food trucks. I knew they left before it started. But that's the extent of my knowledge of the band ringing. Endorsement of turnpike troubadours. So you tell me. I told you my experience when i first started listening to these albums the very first thing you thought when you kicked off what what did you. What which one of them in general. Just let's let's stick with turn. There's a lot of fiddle fiddle right like wear you out fiddled. There's a lot of fiddle fiddles not my favorite instrument to just to be clear on that upfront. Nothing really i like. Violence is fun. Yeah violated film. I the physical genre music is being played. There was a lot of fiddle. Sure sure and i'm standing by that. So where we wanted to do tonight for you is talk a little bit about red dirt country music because traditionally if you come to being go. Hey michael i've got some red dirt country i want you to listen to. I'm gonna say. Hey man i appreciate you. So much have a great night conversations over but but let's talk a little bit about their country music. You guys hop into here. It's dan you went to school at oklahoma what year. What year did you graduate from. Well i went to law school up there. And i graduated two thousand fifteen so i know what you call thirty two oklahoma cheerleaders lined up in a row. A full set of teeth. I i still got oklahoma. Texas oklahoma people. Dan didn't applauded thanks. The don't hold that against which you were. You were there in. Norman oklahoma during the When this album came really really the birth of read their this fifteen. Yeah yeah yeah. I probably just left there. So you were there when red dirt country was really starting to dominate. That part of the world right. I think it's been dominating there for a long time. And they've sort of had to scenes like growing up around here We kinda call it texas country for a long time until you know. We realized a lot of the people that we were listening to were from oklahoma. Certainly it's sorta changed the thing but in cross canadian ragweed with huge and sort of the the turn of the century or millennium whatever Great divide was another big jason baldwin. And we were listening to these guys in collin at texas country had no idea. Where was that all like early. Odds yeah early ninety stuff like that was big at the time and he was sort of the face of trump. I'm very familiar with. He's he's a red right. I mentioned roger. Krieger aggie henry red writer. I know somebody out. There is going to perk up agreeing to be read okay. Hundred percent especially okay but in the beginning what about like rubber or keen hundred percent. He's walking rather he's one of the pillars of you. Know that i guess texas country scene back in the days before this sort of merge and meld of texas and oklahoma at least you know there's probably people out there that know a lot about history and they'd say wrong but you know in texas guys like jerry jeff walker and robert earl keen allow love it right hand in oklahoma yet guys like tom. Skinner and bob shoulders and you had This sort of oklahoma influence and then you had some texas guys and then somewhere around the late nineties. Early 'oughts this all sorts of come together and you've got sort of these guys turn with each other and it becomes less texas country or local country or whatever and it becomes sort of this country thing at least in my perception. Okay so all you got that all combined together into one thing eventually kind of organically so okay. Sure and jason i. In the past we tend to focus on texas musicians. But i was gonna say. I like rob looking great fighting texas aggie class of nineteen seventy nine. I love it. We're going to blame everybody out there with a drink. Every time he says aggie have to drink. You need your bad. I promise you know what challenged me. I'm gonna get everybody's so drunk if you keep this up and everybody remember delacruz. I just wanted to clarify that. So you rub raquin that. I would consider that You know there's nobody. I think in that sort of sub-genre or the acts that we were talking about that hasn't either toured with robert earl keen cover one of his songs and rural keane is such. You guys have seen him out here. Dr fantastic to you had to go watch at an. You had to go watch them. You get your diploma your heads because it was just like drink. Drink drink everybody. Hey so where would you put somebody late. Changing mercury in that says That's just pure like texas americana. He's got a song called choctaw. Bingo read. That's why i was curious hundred percent so i would say that god's lag james mcmurtry and i would probably try to loop todd snider into this very american. He's he's a national guy. Lives in places influenced by jerry jeff walker ryan. What about steve. Earle's and jason is bells very similar. And they may not be red dirk from this area or not doing this thing but you know americana and sort of red dirt. It becomes hard to draw the line between them. Would you consider that its own. Like jason is bill james it mirjam they went americana rewards and stuff like that you would consider those all be one like sub-genre of which is all red dirt or would you consider a dirt the big genre. I would consider if i had to. You have to renter would be sort of a a regional sect of americana okay. Okay fair enough in really jason is bull is he's muscle shoals right right absolutely phenomenal songwriter. It's turgid really is he's got a song called kentucky right tyler phenomenal and i'm glad you said tyrod shows because he was on my top twelve this year and his his album that came out to share a long violent history. There are a couple songs in here. They i mean you can hear it. I mean that that fiddle saw is like straight up. Everybody doing this and then you have culture wall. That's actually from and he's like the like manitoba canada. Yeah but this is guy who's kind of playing within this space. So i'm glad you said that because the history of of music specifically within.

"Hopefully, this is something that, you know. And I have not heard the bears are Matt Nagy or Ryan pace. Ryan pace in a while. You would think maybe this week. With the playoffs coming up. Maybe we'll hear from a Ryan pace this week. Bye. The phrase was used by THEO Epstein, and it doesn't mean it can't be used by anybody else. But the phrase sustained success is what all teams in all sports would like sustained success. You want to be in the mix all the time. Okay. You don't wanna be like the bears not making the playoffs for eight years. Okay. You want to be in the playoffs each and every year. It'd be wonderful. Do you know that the last sixteen years, the patriots have won ten or more games? Every one of those sixteen years. That's disgusting. It's only disgusting because it's the patriots and not the bears. You wanna be in the playoffs. You want to be in the mix and the cubs. The last couple of years what three years in a row, you go to the NFL. See yes, you win the World Series one year. You got to the play offs be just one game this past year. But you want to be in the mix through the White Sox are trying to do. You would think it'd be easy with sixteen teams in the NHL in the NBA to be in the playoffs. All the time. The bulls and Blackhawks proved easy. Or it is that easy. There's just not working very hard. So sustained success is something that the Chicago Bears team is looking forward to some more sound for Matt Nagy from yesterday's press conference outfit Halas hall, there's injuries. And he's hoping that he's going to get some of his guys back. I'm hoping I don't so I'm hoping that they do I think they're all three and a little bit different situations right now. I'm excited to see come Wednesday after talking to Dray Andrei, our our head trainer were there at I think, they're they're all like, I said, they're all kind of different levels. But I am I'm hoping that they're all already to go, man. Those guys he's talking about Eddie Jackson. Allen Robinson, Aaron Lynch. Okay. You've got Robinson with a sore ribs. You have Jackson with the sprain right ankle Aaron Lynch with a sprained, right elbow and two more guys went down this past week Taylor. Gabriel with ribs. They originally said it was a shoulder. But it turns out it's ribs. Or was it the other way around ribs? And he actually is a shoulder. Okay. They said a ribs. And he actually said as his shoulder that he hurt and Anthony Miller the shoulder a good friend of mine who passed away a year or so ago, fab lab tech one of my best buddies. He had his shoulder that was dislocated in popped out. And once you pop it back in unless you have surgery it's gonna pop out we were playing pickup not pick up basketball park district basketball at Cicero stadium. This is way back when Ed to be late seventies. He's running down the court and shoulder just pops out. And if you look at the Anthony Miller situation, it looked like he was just moving the ball from what happened to the other. And boom the shoulder popped out that happens with guys with bad shoulders. And the weird part is my buddy Bob son, Joey had the same problem. He was a golfer, and he could only go so far golf because his shoulder kept popping out. I guess hereditary. Well, you running point for it. No down low. Yeah. The one thing I can do is play defensive rebound. And I just passed the ball. We we just I was just outlet and let them run because that's what they like to do. They just run. So that's all I do. I like I like play defense. When guys I'd say, we play a man to man. And I'd say at this guy, we did this once we were up at northern Illinois visiting friend of mine who was going to school there and out of Saturday morning. We just went and played pick basketball. And so we're getting on the court finally after everybody other teams lost we get on the court, and I point to a guy, and I I'll take this guy the guy laughs. I made sure the guy denied him the ball, and I didn't get to the basket. And then we ended up winning. And then all of a sudden. Yeah. And then we played those are running back in northern Illinois name Allen Ross. It was really fast really quick. And we're we won two games to three games. All of a sudden, we look up we're playing a team with Alan Rossa, his four buddies. We thought, you know, for a bunch of for a bunch of white guys. We thought we were fast or at least four of them. Did I didn't. I just got real these dot card. With game was over like in five minutes. Boom. We're off the car. We say, you know, what it's time to go drinking, and we did that was back in the day. So I die Gress about Bob shoulder. Didn't go out. Then it was it was a Cicero stadium. But anyway, hopefully, Anthony Miller can come back and play because Anthony Miller after getting one catch to targets in three weeks. He was three for twenty four. And then he was getting involved in the game. And Anthony Miller goes out, and you want as many of your targets in there as you can possibly have. Now it helped that they were able to go to the bench and bring in a Kevin white and divide whims. We hadn't seen volumes Williams at all. And boom there he is making four catches in the final game of the regular season and throw away game. But a game where the opposition's trying to get a victory iota, the postseason, and it was really great to see the standardized route there. I think Kevin fish pain tweeted it out a little while ago from the athletic seventeen for twenty one on third down the last two games. Mitchell Trubisky, very very good. And Matt Nagy talked about why Mitch has been so good at their down. Especially in that Minnesota game is ability to trust guys. He doesn't care who it is. He stays within the play. I don't care. What number you have out there? I don't care if it's forty four. I'm telling you the ball. Okay. So he'll do it. And honestly, he doesn't care. He stays within the the play stays within the system. He trusts it. And and he's the other guys are trust in him. And they know if I'm on time if I run this route on time, then he's gonna throw me the ball in time. And then we have a chance for a conversion well has been working really well, and hopefully it continues because the Chicago Bears are getting ready to take on the Philadelphia Eagles and Nagy knows a little bit about that. And he talked about going up and facing Philly with Doug. What Howie with their players with everything they do, I know them really well, Doug. And I we work together for for six years between Philadelphia and Kansas City. We spent many hours together. So we know each other really well. And and it's just a it's a it's a mutual friendship that we have for another mutual respect. He's a competitor. He wants to win same with us. So it'll be a great challenge. And obviously, I my my phone is blowing up right now from Philadelphia, friends back home. So I'm just not answering the other thing that people are looking at is Philadelphia Eagles come in as the reigning champs. In the eagles needed the bears to win and the eagles needed to win in order to get to the playoffs. And it all happened. Eagles fans were sharing. Let's go bears. Let's go bears. Well, the bears got the win in Minnesota. And the eagles got their win over Washington. And and now Nick foles in the eagles come to Soldier Field on Sunday. And Matt Nagy talking about falls coming in quarterback in the eagles. Nick is he's about as good of a human being as you'll find you won't talk about people that do things right way somebody that cares about others somebody that just wants to play for the love of the game. And he was at a low point then, and I think that that goes to show the kind of things that coach Reid does. As a head coach. He has a coach read has a history of bringing in people that are maybe at a low point, and and saving and resurrecting their careers. And I love that. I absolutely love that about him. I've learned that. I appreciate it. And I can still remember the day that Nick, and I were were in my car together when I picked him up from the airport and. He came over to my house, and we're seeing it and seeing my kids and just just living life, low just saying, you know, the things away from football. And we got him back up loving the game. And. You see what he's done flashier? And where he's at now. So tons of respect for now. Hopefully, we find him on Sunday on his back quite often as the bears track him down and see him in the backfield. Thanks for jumping on in..
