"A story now about what happens when things go wrong. Not systemically wrong, not economy breaking wrong, just a glitch, but a glitch in an industry that requires breathtaking precision. High-tech manufacturing is what we're talking about here. Semiconductors, for instance, have tolerances measured in nanometers. Lasers require crystals of incredible chemical purity. Inevitably though, mistakes are made, and when that happens, one industry's trash becomes another industry's jewelry marketplace of supremacy has that story. At a mobile phone industry conference in Barcelona back in 2013, a representative of a New Hampshire based company called GT advanced technologies is giving a demonstration to a reporter. He picks up a chunk of concrete and scrapes it ferociously across the screen of his iPhone. And I'm going to start to scratch away, right? And when I clear that away, you'll see that there's no damage to the screen itself. GT 80 had agreed to make sapphires for Apple, which was considering replacing the gorilla glass on its screens with the much harder material. Bob Sanders is a reporter at the New Hampshire business review who covered GTAT for more than a decade. They need to produce really big ones, bigger than they ever done before at higher temperatures than ever before. Safire's weighing hundreds of pounds, much larger and much purer than what's found in nature. And he signed a contract to do this. Problem is that they couldn't. They hadn't made sapphires before. Just the furnaces used to make them. There were defects there were cracks and the enormous crystals called bools were useless. They piled up. They call them a pool, graveyard. The company went bankrupt, shareholders lost more than a $1 billion. Litigation ensued, the giant sapphires disappeared. We were asking around pretty actively to see if any of it had gotten out during the bankruptcy. Steven chaloner is cofounder of angry turtle jewelry based in Raleigh, North Carolina. We were lucky enough to find one from a surplus warehouse somewhere in Oregon, I think. We had it shipped to us freight. It weighed 500 pounds. We had to take it apart with a concrete saw and with sledgehammers to get out the few clean areas. But once it's trimmed up, it cuts absolutely beautiful stones. They glitter and shine and challenge themselves them on Etsy and Instagram now. Our business is centered around repurposing industrial materials, which are grown for science, medicine, and research, and we're using them as gemstones. They range from a few dollars to a few $1000 for a single stone. In his workshop, chaloner holds a pink ruby, larger than a golf ball, and slices through it with a diamond saw. The stones he cuts were originally intended for lasers, medical imaging machines, cell phones, even fusion reactors. This ruby was left over from the 1980s strategic defense initiative, also known as Star Wars. Sourcing this stuff is basically a full-time job. We have to do a lot of cold calls, send a lot of emails and find crystal growers or crystal processors or researchers who are willing to part with their scrap. They are not always willing. Sometimes scrap is re melted and recycled. Sometimes the crystal's composition is top secret. Some of the scientific crystals channel are manages to get his hands on, contain rare earth elements. Some of them change color. Some of them actually glow in the dark. I think my favorite is, lutetium aluminum garnet. It is used to detect invisible radiation. And it has an insane neon green color. It glows like nobody's business. One of those rough stones went to Eric bardawil owner of House of Silas to facet into a gem. So he sent it to me. I opened the box. It's just glowing. I texted him. What is this stuff is it safe? Are you going to kill me if I cut it? Marty will cut it, posted the video on TikTok. It got 1.2 million views. People went crazy. And then for the next month, I think all I did was sell Luang gemstones. They go for a few hundred to more than a thousand bucks. Bartolo thinks the popularity of these industrial stones is in part because of a shift in the diamond market. People are warming up to lab grown diamonds for wedding rings, and that spilled over into acceptance for synthetic colored stones, especially if they have a good backstory, like failed industrial products or fusion generator parts. We'll have to kind of see whether it fizzles out or what? So I have faith. For now, it's not just the crystals that are glowing, sales are bright too. In New York, I'm somebody Ben

"So I don't know how some of the comparative be iffy, but a lot of people are talking about him being in all per corner back. And those stats just jumped off the page. So that's why I have them as my defensive player with you. They are good stats. So I went back just because I was curious. I looked up the AP defensive player of the year winners. And Gilmore did win it in 2019 before that, can you guess who was the most recent corner to win it before? Gilmore. Darrell read this? No, see, that's what I would have guessed. If somebody did, it would have been a hit, but no. It was 2009. Green Bay Packers. It didn't click in, man. How old Charles Woodson? Charles Woodson? Oh, okay. Yeah. I had it towards the tail end of his career. I was gonna say, dude, I feel like he was old in 2009. And before that, I mean, bob Sanders won it in 2007, but he's a safety. Deion Sanders 94 bots. So that's been. And then 1975 was the only other time Mel Blount for the Steelers. Yeah, so it's rare. Very rare. Going back to 1971, it's not even done four times. Yeah, I'll take my odds with Jude on over sauce. And especially on top of that, not only has it never happened or very rarely. What would have to happen for a rookie to do it. They're just going to give them rookie of the year. They're not going to give them both. You'd have to have. I agree. Insane. I don't think he does win it, but that doesn't mean he's been good for sure. I don't think he doesn't deserve it. Or at least. Did a defensive rookie of the year, it'd be him. Brian, who's your offensive rookie of the year? Offensive rookie of the year, Chris a lot of days. New Orleans Saints. It's got 72 targets, 43 receptions, 618 yards and two touchdowns so far. With not a great quarterback, I mean, honestly, I mean, I guess none of these rookie wide receivers have great quarterbacks, so I guess I can't really say. Except the sky more. He's not even on the field when he fumbles every time he gets a chance. So he's sort of disappointing, man. I drafted him and one of our fantasy leagues, I was in the first round. I was so excited and I also have guderian Tony on that team, though, too. So I have a decent shot to have one of the wide receivers that breaks out in that offense. The packers are supposed to have a good quarter pack.

"Your gut, follow your convictions, lead this team very well, support those coaches. First thing he's got to do is figure out who's going to call the plays on offense. Exactly. Just fired their offensive coordinator. Offensive coordinate is not there. The guy who called the plays is not there. Nobody on the staff has called plays an NFL game. So that's the first thing you've got to come up with. And then you've got to support that and say, who we're going to be and what are we going to be and how are we going to do this? And he'll do well, but it's a very, very tough situation. I wouldn't wish this situation on anybody. Talking to Tony dungy, the Hall of Famer, joining us on the program. We were also talking about what's going on with buffalo with Josh Allen with that arm or the ulnar nerve, which if you're a pitcher, that's a big deal. I'm wondering, buffalo doesn't have that cushion in the division where, hey, we can sit him down for a little while and maybe rest that, but what do you think the options are here with Josh Allen? I don't know how you can protect a guy who plays like that. It would be very concerning to me because they are built around him. If you're Tennessee Titans, you can put Malik Willis in, throw 8 passes and you still have a chance to win the game. Buffalo can not do that. Josh Allen has to be on fire for them to win. So I don't know how you go about it. You can't protect them because he plays too aggressively. And they've got to have him throwing well to win. So this really kind of changes the landscape of the AFC east to me. How would you devise a defense to try to contain Lamar Jackson? Well, there's been different ways that people have tried to do it. It's so hard to play zone coverage. That's what I would want to do is play zone so I got all my 7 defenders in the back with their eyes on him and they can see him and rally to him when he runs. But these RPOs that people are running, they fake it in there, they get their linebackers to play run and then there's holes in the zones to throw those quick passes. And everybody is taking advantage of that. So now you have to almost play man to man and that's tough. I think I would probably call bob Sanders and say, can you play, can you give me one game and just buy this guy? My middle linebacker and all you gonna do is buy Lamar. I don't know, and I've said this before. I don't know if there's a quarterback who has more responsibility than Lamar Jackson does, given that he doesn't have running backs. He doesn't have wide receivers. He doesn't have Mark Andrews there. You're basically saying Lamar, you can not have an off day if we're going to win. I saw them play down here in Tampa. I went to the game and it was amazing because you're right. He dictated everything on offense. The Tampa defense had to react to him the whole way. And then last night, that was a pretty good defense. He's playing against New Orleans and he just, he was the dominant player on the field. And he has to do it. He has to be dominant for them. Weekend and week out. And he's doing it. We talk about NBA teams tanking. How often does tanking happen in the NFL?

"A $110,000 a year. This is part of that's part of their endowment, part of what keeps them going in. To provide them with a library? Yeah, okay. Yeah, for library services. Okay. Wow, mayor gene McGee. Has decided to withhold this fund. These funds. Oh. Yeah. He's not going to release it to them. Does he want his library closed? No, he loves the library or presumably he loves the library. I'm guessing he doesn't read a lot. Anyway, he took the idea of he just wants all that gay shit out of there. He just don't like the queer stuff. Oh my God. In the library. And we're not just talking about we're talking about any books that have incidentally gay characters in them just as one any gay in the library. And he's not, he's not the only one. He claims that there are this is a response to lots of community members who are absolutely livid to find in the children's section, Frank, the children's section, books that have that happen to have LGBTQ plus. God. People. Like, a kid could see that, Frank. And then what would happen? And then what? They're all gay. That is what happens. If you see a person smell a gay book, you turn gang. Anyway, yeah. It's literally that. It's literally that stupid. Apparently on a phone call with the library director, he said that the homosexual materials in the library went against his Christian beliefs and he would not release the money as long as the materials were there. He went on to say the library consume conserve whoever we wanted. But he only serves the great lord above. Cool. Yeah, you're awesome. Dude, douche. I'll bet you were sexy in high school. I'll bet the ladies loved you. Mayor McGee. Oh, what a. So that's just that's the state of the government in now, of course there was a big board meeting and a alderman's meeting and stuff. And at that meeting, the legal counsel of the library board was asked if the mayor had the authority to withhold these funds considering there's a contract in place. Bob Sanders, who is the council for the library board, said, no. That was a quote. Literally. The quote was new. I'm just gonna assume that he said it that way. That's his legal opinion. Exactly. No. Sorry. You don't need a lot of subtlety or nuance. Right. When it's that stupid. Anyway,.

"A lot more going across the middle you bet and i told her raji. I kinda tried a lot of the back to one thing that happened about seventeen eighteen years ago they head injuries the cpa settlement. She settlement the movie. That came out with all that bad publicity about the doctor. All these players having problems with their head injuries some of them starting to commit suicide they change those rules a lotta. I think that's a lot of it. I also think that offense they they recognize it. And maybe there's some of this is due to fantasy football but they recognize how much exciting how exciting offense is for people. They want him more. But i do believe that. There's also a degree of not wanting to be held liable for stuff like like they understand that chris it could wand up they might lose big money. You know like like they settled. There might be like a situation where they say you didn't take any safeguard you didn't make the game safer you know. And then and then you've got a class action suit of all these players saying that. They played in a dangerous game and they didn't do anything to improve it so if they take those steps and even though you know what you're signing up for it kind of protects them and also another element rob. They're not practicing like they used to nails to practice. Full you tackling and practice nine now for the most part no. Hey let's go to curtis in phoenix arizona. Urine the couple of fox. Sports radio curtis. What's happening guys. How your call her by longtime listener. Keep claiming here. We appreciate you want to say that the game is definitely have gotten a lot softer than it was because nowadays your middle linebacker is moreover cover guy if you look at to back. Dan like back in the day for me. Like ray. Lewis and patrick willis and bob sanders and brian dawkins and people. When you knew you're gonna get hit hard. It doesn't matter that's what ray lewis eight. It's not about what you're gonna do no running a route. It's about when you get the ball. So i'm more like these people were are now are not even looking to get hit. They're they're taking the dive there they wanted to have this long career to make it to the all the same so with a new helmets and new things like that. You would think that they'll feel safety. But now this game has definitely changed and get to the point where we can't even you know. Look at the people. Celebrate a good hit or cat. Meyer pick it up. Took it to the race dugout later on when the blue jays senate that way over to get the card back as like now czars now. We're keeping it. Jr foul or fair of the race to keep that little scouting report. Back is a foul ball but purely gamesmanship and it's a bit childish collecting data on opposing players. "Different about car, his pat his passing lanes what he's able to see where he's able to distribute the ball. Nine different receivers yesterday. Are you kidding me? Um, passing the ball around? Not only that, but his presence in the pocket is unbelievable. People who might not watch the Raiders a lot or closely might not realize it. But his patience his his ability to step up in the pocket and not be flustered. Even when the line does break down is really next level. I've always said Derek Carr is a great core A good quarterback, a very good quarterback. I didn't say he was an elite quarterback so far this year buying you can't argue he is playing like an elite quarterback, and he's telling the Raiders Get on my shoulders. I'll take you with me and the confidence is through the roof. This offense says all the confidence in the world and I also think that's extremely important. If you're just joining us. We're speaking with Scott governments, and he is the founder of Silver and Black today, talking about the big win on the road yesterday. Huge win. I don't think we're overstating it. Uh, this is a huge win. Make no mistake about it. You would be the football team that had a pretty good week one in the Pittsburgh Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger, not the same quarterback. He once was, but he's still pretty darn good, but what they were able to do with him. Scott is they know that he's not very mobile. He's not not not the scrapper. He once was not the most athletic quarterback, even though he's going to be a Hall of Famer, and they put all the pressure on him in the world. They made life for Ben Roethlisberger. Miserable yesterday. Did you see how many times Roethlisberger was walking off the field, shaking his head? The negative kind of kind of the negative mannerisms yet yesterday you could see it and usually doesn't do that. He was really, really frustrated. And I think you've got to give all the credit to the radar defense for doing that. You do and you look at guys like Solomon Thomas, The guy that signed out of San Francisco former 49 or two sacks yesterday, and not only that there's a lot of we get wrapped up in the numbers around sacks with the defensive front. For football teams, but in reality, like you said, yummy times, they got to Ben Roethlisberger and took him to the ground and, you know, play after play. When that happens it wears on the quarterback, and it does impact performance, so they were able to do that You saw again yesterday. Maxx, Crosby had another game up front to you saw a lot of guys really doing things differently. Carl Nassib had another good game. And as well So so you like what you see, And I have to say this to Brian. Remember, the Raiders have been constantly pressured. Go to Lamar Jackson, Who's no slouch. You go to Ben Roethlisberger. Both those games both those winds. They pressured that quarterback and we're constantly in that defense and that offensive backfield And you know what? They've only blitzed twice right season. So they're getting pressure up front. Brian with four guys, right? Right. No question. Solomon Thomas. Let's not forget he was a top three pick out of Stanford. By the Niners. I mean, he was He ran like a 47 at the combine. He was He was a freak athlete. He had a great college career. I want to talk about Denzel Pyramid. 12 tackles Trayvon Martin, seven tackles. To pass is deflected in Jonathan Abram moved to me is playing a lot like Bob Sanders that play where click Chase. Claypool tried to jump over Jonathan Abram last year that may have been a touchdown. Abram stopped that play in its tracks, talking about those three players. Yeah, I think Well, number one. Having Perriman there in the middle and at linebacker for the Raiders is a huge thing. He's an experienced guy who knows the system and it shows right. He's very comfortable in there. He's making plays. He knows where it is not only doing that, but if you watch you can see him directing the guys who are new to the system, But they've all adopted. They've all adapted very well. Jonathan Abram was a massive question Mark. I had serious doubts. But when they moved him to box safety to a natural position where he can play better and be aggressive, that's what they needed to do. They were able to do that because they were able to go out and find safety is to play the natural position. That's what the problem was with the Raiders the last couple of years, guys was you had a defensive coordinator that wasn't very creative or motivating and not only that, but he's playing a lot of guys on a position. Jonathan Abram has benefited from moving up and doing that. And so you see that this defense man, you talk about confidence, Brian. You mentioned it with the offense on defense. This this this defense just have that you can see it already and listen, Let's face it. The Raiders are not going undefeated guys. Okay? How can you go in defeated there will have their ups and downs. But I'm telling you, the down should be a lot less significant. They shouldn't last multiple games like they did last year in that suite at the end of the season. You just like the makeup of this. You'd like the coaching staff. The mood that's been sent the culture that's been sent and you're seeing it with guys like Pyramid, Abram and then, of course, Mullen, who continues to perform at a very high level, and I think if you ask the coaching staff and you ask the fans and you said, you look at these first two games if you're able to go one and one, you'd be ecstatic with that, or at least very content or happy with that. The fact that they're going away in these first two Seems to and also I think it is incredible. It's what a start. And again, it's only two games into the season. We got a long way to go, but I think early on in this season, we have seen what this team is made of and what they're capable of. So now let's look ahead to next week. The Miami top fins didn't look too good over the weekend, They got blitzed, figuratively speaking and, well, they did get blitzed as well. They lost 35 to 0 Buffalo bills. The Dolphins looked awful. They have injuries. Now they come into Las Vegas. Now they're playing a Raider team with a ton of confidence to know is day to day, But he may play for the Raiders. You have to say there's Stuff, right? We don't. We don't want to look ahead. We don't want to take these guys for granted, but the same time. This is a game where the Raiders need to take advantage of the Dolphins team that is that is really sucking in all categories right now. They do the one area that the Dolphins are good in still and they need and I think the Raiders need to be cognizant of this, but I like the Raiders chances because of how they're playing offences. Miami is still very good about takeaways on defense. Their defense is tough, right? Um Jerome Baker is a good good linebacker. You have Brandon Jones and safety. They have a good defense. I think that's the core..

Ben Roethlisberger Brian Brandon Jones Lamar Jackson Jerome Baker Jonathan Abram Trayvon Martin Bob Sanders Derek Carr Solomon Thomas Carl Nassib Raider Abram Pittsburgh Steelers 12 tackles Dolphins 35 49 Raiders seven tackles

"Down and 10 hearing it out Car. It is called Henry rubs his gone touchdown waiters. Sprinter's speed. Just throw it up there. If you're Derek Carr and look loves going, get it 61 yards biggest play the game. It's what kind of gave them the separation they needed and made it a two score game. But I'll tell you what a phenomenal win by the Raiders. Unbelievable win they they're now to go in the season. They go into Pittsburgh and a hostile environment. And they win. Going away convincingly. Derek Carr deserves all the credit in the world. The defense deserves all the credit in the world as I said this, but they made Roethlisberger's life miserable the entire game. Roethlisberger was hit. That's how you beat Tom Brady type player. I mean, I mean, listen, Ben Roethlisberger is not as mobile as he once was, and he was uncomfortable the entire game. I thought the coaching staff listen Week one against Baltimore. I said coaches made some mistakes. Players won that football game. I give the coaches credit in this game. The game plan was phenomenal. Uh, great win on the road, and now they come home against Miami Dolphins team That was just awful against Buffalo. So you can be looking at want to get too far ahead of myself was carted off the field in the middle of the second quarter, which doesn't help them at all. You could be looking at a three start for the Raiders, and I don't want to get too far ahead of myself. But let's give credit where credit is due, man. Uh, great organization is Las Vegas Raiders. I love this organization. Derek Carr is an easy person to root for. He's a great guy. A lot of good dudes on this team to like. You don't look at some dudes and say, Boy, the Raiders are a tough team to root for the and I'm not saying that because I'm a homer. This is an easy Jon Gruden is an easy guy to root for. He's a good dude. Uh, you know, I remember I met these coaches. In Henderson a few months ago. Few months back, Uh, just by accident, I met Gruden. I met Olson. These guys are good guys. Raiders organization is an easy organization to root for Mark Davis is an easy owner to root for no controversies. You know, just just a good guy. He buys the aces. He's a smart businessman. He loves Las Vegas. He's embraced Las Vegas and I am all in with this team, and I gotta tell you something. 23 weeks ago, I was questioning Jon Gruden and you know what? It's only two games into the season. I understand that But kudos to the Raiders. We will be getting to the UNLV football team They got destroyed by Iowa State. Uh, that would actually it is kind of funny. I mean, listen. There were more JD. There were twice as many Iowa state football fans in allegiance Then you and all that was four times as many, maybe four times, but at least two times. Yeah, absolutely. It was it was so. So Arroyo was asked after the game. Did it feel like a road game? He didn't really want to answer the question. Sure, it was a road game. But they did score field goal. You know, UNLV right now, and I could pretty much proved this on paper. I have a strong argument that they are the worst team in college football, especially with free starting at quarterback. One of the worst teams know Southern Utah is better Can we agree on that you and ov on third down this year is 10 of 41. JD. Forget about that's bad but forgettable. That's that's not bad right? That that is. Authority. They had one first down in the first half. 40 there 30% worse on third down, then Yukon. Let me repeat that you can really bad Randy Edsall. They had one first down in the first half. And here's Listen. We're going to get to this later, right? But I just want to say this. You finally sustain a drive in the second half. And what does he do? Arroyo puts another quarterback in there. It's just it anyway. We'll get to that later on, we'll plenty of tape. Martel got his one carry, and that's all that matters. We have plenty of time to complain. Honestly, I think that Derek Carr Isn't where he's probably a top 500 P candidate. You mentioned that that 65 yards past the rugs. Car was. I think he was 28 of 37 for like 380 yards and two touchdowns. I mean, he was He was tossing the ball all over the field run program involved. Obviously, Waller got involved. Drake got involved at works out involved to be glass half full type guy. I'm all in with the Raiders. They're the real deal. I'm not taking anything away from. However, I'm not willing to go that far because it's only been two games and I'm saying at this point car is a top five NDP candidates right now what I really liked what I saw from Jonathan Abram, who reminds me, Remember, Remember the Bob Sanders Peyton Manning. Dallas Clark Colts team. Bob Sanders was that that missile safety Member that play where Chase Claypool tried to jump. He tried to jump over Jonathan Abram, and he grabbed by his feet and took him right down. I like to I saw from Jonathan neighborhood. I really liked myself from Solomon Thomas, the former top five pick number three pick out of Stanford, who was drafted by the Niners, who had two sacks yesterday. The Raiders are looking extremely better than that. I believe that 98% of the country thought they would dive into this a little bit later on the show with Scott Gulbrandsen, uh, from Silver and black today, the founder of that podcast so Um I hate to make this transition, but we have to do so. And it's a sad one. I'm sure you've heard about this Petito situation. If you don't know what I'm talking about. This is the couple they were traveling in Utah and they traveled throughout the country Couple in their early twenties. Let me just give people a little bit of background on this. Young couple early twenties. They're traveling throughout the country. They're pulled over in Utah for a domestic violence issue, even though nobody was arrested. Well to me. This is Scott Peterson all over again because all of a sudden the boyfriend comes home. Without his girlfriend. Gabby. He refuses to cooperate with the media. Or I shouldn't say the media. Excuse me. He refuses to cooperate with law enforcement. That is your number one sign that he's responsible for why she's missing. Very weird and bizarre story and we were hoping that she would be found, but it appears as though They have found her body. Yesterday There was a press conference. Even though it hasn't been 100% confirmed. They're saying that it matches her description. It's her, uh, immediately. I said this boyfriend is responsible. Either complete murder. Or there was some sort of accident. He tried to cover it up. Well, now Authorities are saying that he's missing so that means one or two different things happened. Either. He has taken his own life or he's decided to go in hiding. What despicable situation here you have a family of the Gabby Petito family. That is begging for answers. And now they get this heart wrenching information yesterday. The boyfriend's family refuses to talk to anybody refuses to give up any information. He has refused to give up any information, and now he's missing. And to me. This is like Scott Peterson all over again, even though you know she's not pregnant, at least as far as we know. That's what we're looking at here now. Gabby's family first reported her missing on September 11th. So we're talking. You know what's the date today? We're talking a week ago. They didn't hear from her since late August. And they believe that the text messages That she was given to the family. Where the boyfriend sending those text messages. In fact, up until this past Friday. The family were refused to speak as I mentioned with investigators, which is unbelievable, despicable. While I don't blame the boyfriend's family for what took place I do blame them for not being transparent. There's a time and a place where you have to say to yourself. You know what While this is my son, we know that the sun was probably responsible for something. Let's give some answers to the family. They didn't do that..

"He can at his combine workout can roll out left and swing a ball back across the field. Nobody but playing a game and doing it as a whole nother animal and play two weeks. And throw six picks. It's a big wake up call. It's hard to keep your confidence. These young guys can can themselves a whole Mentally that's really hard to get out of They can get a lot of scar tissue. Built up making some of these mistakes too. They're not easy to always. Just forget so. I i know. That's what matt nagy has in mind a little bit. I think what the situation. It's unfortunate because andy was playing really well up until got her i. That game wouldn't even have been closed if he stayed healthy. So but yeah. I'm excited excited for justin. I think justice crazy talented and so incredibly excited for him if this is opportunity to go. So let's talk about zack wilson. Because you mentioned him and watching him lose twenty five to six at home to the patriots and bill ballot check and bill. Bella check destroys rookie. Quarterback's he consumes them. He picks their bones. That's all stuff that we know already cleans. His teeth with the bones of rookie quarterback is what he does but we saw jets fans alex. You know throwing in the towel and it's week two. And i say that because they were literally throwing souvenir tales from the stands. And zach wilson. The four picks. I'm curious about climbing into your memory bank here because what do you. Alex smith remember about playing the colts back in two thousand and five pablo. I've definitely tried to forget this one all right but we're good. I do remember my first career. Start the number one defense at the time and like the colts were in their heyday. Payton was rolling. But that defenseman dwight free robert matt Bob sanders. i mean it was. It was a joke and yeah. It's all a terrible blur for me. Like four picks i think my rating was it like it was a disaster but i think that was a clear design i was i just turned twenty one. I mean i played only two years in college in a spread system now trying to plan their center. Probably this become this pro quarterback whatever that is and It was not good. I was definitely i. I felt unprepared. And it was a disaster and it showed. You've been a guy who had a four interception game really early after being a top. Pick your the number one overall pick of course. What do you counsel him. Hypothetically what do you stay to him after a game like this if you were to visit him. Alex smith kind of like a ghost of christmas future. What do you. What do you tell a kid who's very talented but also just had a day like this. I think exactly that. I mean i think you gotta go like for me. I just go to the third and fourth picks that he grew and pause before the snap and look look like jack. It's ten to three on this one. It's in the third quarter we got. There's a ton of football left. There's no reason to throw this ball up The way he did and then even the second one in the fourth grade. I mean i think it was thirteen to three..

"Break my heart but you cannot take my soul and my daughter emily. She's a talented musician. She's and a powerful voice of her generation. She's to fresh people the people but you have to make the first step to say that. And i messed a fierce. I'm glorious fun. I'm a performer. I've been married for forty two years. Have two children one grandson and five. Dogs listened to read tabletop. Stefan's as part of the mike duda podcast network available on the iheartradio app apple podcasts. Or wherever you get your podcasts You know at the college level. Tony coaches have control. They control the personnel. Nick saban's personality to me is more controlling. It's a better fit in the n. College than it is in the nfl. bella check has control pete carroll does but they've also had sort of odd drafts bills really struggled at some positions in the draft. Pete's missed some first rounders several. You could've worked in college but you always felt like a pro coach control. Wasn't that valuable to you. Go back to your career. How because i see a lot of these coaches now. All college coaches want control but some of these. Nfl guys. they want more say in personnel. Heck aaron rodgers now says he wants saying personnel i. I'm not a fan of that. What you tell me did it matter to you. How did you in polian make it work. People asked that question all the time especially lately you know who had control of the draft the final say who had the final say on the fifty three. I honestly don't know colin. I'm sure built. Did but you know. We would have discussed and i knew bill was not going to draw the player that i didn't want i was not gonna keep a gallon team that building what we had a great capacity to listen to each other buildings out and work together. And that's what you have. And it was a partnership. And and i don't understand this You know i've got to be ride has got to be my way. I've gotta have control. when started. Coaching in nineteen eighty-one chuck knoll. I went into his office on said. What am i supposed to do. I've never coach before. Tell me what i'm supposed to do. He said your job is to help your players play better and it was so simple but that is the formula and so i always felt that way. I don't have control. i have to help. My players played better now. Bill poland and ritz mcvay before that to their credit they got to know what kind of players would flourish. Well under me and so. Hey don't drop the player that needs a full time babysitter. Don't draft the pair player. That's not motivated. That's not what tony's good at. He's gonna coach him. He's going to work. He's gonna help them. But certain types of guys are gonna flourish here. Certain types of guys aren't and once we understood that we were in great shape. Did you ever have a player that you looked at and you went to bill or mccain said i this this this is gonna work for me and maybe there was pushback but you knew innately tony. This kid works for me that that is exactly what i want. Yeah and we got to know that we had what we call the buck filter. When i was at a tampa we did the same thing. What does it look like. And so bill. Poland got to know that very well and so the guys who might have been off other people's right are bob. Sanders is small. he's undersized but man he is up fiery guy he's attitude guy and you know and some schools would be that way. We had a lot of success with the iowa guys because we knew they were coached to certain way they were ready to go. We knew we're gonna get. And i i think that's really important. Who's gonna flourish in your system. So it must. You must look at the green bay situation. I know i do. And i just can't figure it out i i'll tell you say tony i wouldn't want control over personnel at fox it's i i can barely figure out how to host a show. Podcast i don't want it when you look at the green bay situation. Do you just roll your eyes at i do and you know as great as peyton manning was and is but they want to be involved in things. He understood that his focus was not the same as the the organization's focus. I was the same way as the head coach. My focus was on winning this year. Bill cullen had to focus on three four and five years down the line. So i had to defer to him. I couldn't say hey. We've got to make this decision. And it's gotta be this way i'll give you a classic example are super bowl year the year before we came. Close don't win it edrich. james's up. He's a free agent and bill. Pollen comes to me and says ed gonna get six or seven million dollars on the open market now. We could pay him and he deserves it but if we signed him i can tell you right now tony. We're gonna lose the white friday dallas. Clark reggie wayne two or three years down the road. We won't be able to resign or we can let go. It's a great year for the draft. We can draft laurence maroney. Maurice jones drew or joseph di and will resign those other three guys and we'll be competitors along time. What do you wanna do. While my first thing cl- niceness. We got to win this year. Let's re sign it. If we can do it. we can squeeze a dead. Let's do it but then when you really think about down the road. That's not the right thing to do i. I was focused in on that year. I didn't know the running backs coming up. Well sure enough we let during go. We draft those madurai. He plays great force when the super bowl and long. After i'm retired there are still in consensus for super bowl. Yeah the tony. You're a guy that could have you look at these coaches now in the salaries and there is this sort of I always worry about. Nfl coaches that. The league's not healthy for coaches. That it just asks so much of them now. College football tony. There's two signing periods. They have no off season if you're on a phone constantly As somebody who deeply loves the game or you ever concerned the coaching is less healthy than ever. I absolutely am and i know i was very very blessed to work for chuck. No and not get put in that situation. When i was a young coach and see a coach who was successful and didn't make it his whole life i worked for denny grain for four years then it was the same way so i saw you could do it that way. I tried to do it. That way and demonstrate to my coaches and players that we can win we can be successful and we can still have family light. We can have social life. We can As as chuck would say we can find purpose somewhere else and so. I'm really grateful to see mike tomlin. Go on and do it that way herm edwards and lovey smith and a bunch of guys who were with makes but i see the other side of it too and i see the people that feel like men. I've got to win. I've got to be here. I'm going to pour everything. I've got into this because i owe it to my organization my staff and you're right. I don't think that's helpful Andy reid. I always had this theory. Is that bella. Check dominates coaches. That have a certain system what he struggles with is quarterbacks that can move he struggled when he played cam and he struggles with coaches who don't have a system there play designers so andy reid his given ballot check problems. He doesn't have a system. He gets his players. He designs plays for his players. That bill is very good at film. Study this is what you do. I'm taking it away from you. Bella check is largely viewed as the best football coach of our lives. And you and bill had some real struggles was there. Were there things that bill did. The you felt you had success with. I mean you were in the rare position that you had a quarterback that was as good as his and so a lot of your games with bill tony. They were chess matches. They were real chess matches. And if you take the audience to this you add some success against him. Andy reid at the list is very short and Did you enjoy those. Were those sleepless nights. Take me back to those..

"That's where we're going right now. Will Blackmon joins us on that Goodyear highlight is a 12 year NFL veteran. You also want to chip with the Giants, and he's the host of upsets and underdogs. A podcast available wherever you listen to podcasts, and he covers college football, So he really truly does it all. Good afternoon to you will, thanks for being with us. So let's start with the giant since that is your former team, right? Um is it a make it or break it year for Daniel Jones, and that feels kind of obvious to me. But like, what do you need to see from Daniel Jones to make it be like? Yes, he is definitely our franchise quarterback going forward. Well, thank you for welcoming me been great to it. Um, yeah, I think it is time. I feel like this division is still quite open. I understand. That Washington is the favorite, especially due to their defense. But yeah, it is time it's time ago. It's time to get going. They went and got some more weapons for him offensively, you know the big sign with Kenny Golladay, but It is time to see what Daniel Jones can really do. He's the first one pig. He is their first He is their franchise quarterback, you know to take over after Eli has gone so Wanted percent agree to see what he can do with the senior ship. Staying within that division, the NFC East and there's some news, obviously coming out of Dallas with that offensive line. Taking a hit due to Covid was Zack Martin being out for the next two weeks? What are legitimate expectations for Dallas team that has so much talent? It's mainly just a question of Can they put it together? And also can they stay healthy? That's the biggest thing is. Can they put it together? Of course. Yes. Losing their quarterback. Last year was was massive. I mean, Dak was having, uh, you know, a record setting type of season out the gate, so to lose him that that was everything but The main thing I want to look at two is also the defensive side. They went and try to make this adjustment. This is the second time uh, first, McCarthy felt like he had a team that was ready. He had to make a switch on the quarter. Nate aside. In Green Bay. You know, with the head coach Bob Sanders. He felt like the team was ready to make a switch Defectively. So he went, um and got Dom Capers and that actually elevate the defense, you know, don being with the Steelers, bringing that blitz Berg style. They actually cater Charles Woodson style of play, and now he went and made a switch and got coach Dan Quinn. Was trying to bring that Seattle cover three type defense, which is funny because McCarthy said he wasn't at the end of that defensive force. So that's why he went with coach Nolan, who also I notice his best friend as well. Stop. I'm ready to see what Dan Quinn does defensively. Getting Michael Parsons was huge. I think he's going to have an outstanding year. So, Yeah, I'm I'm curious to see what they do overall and right and they put these things together and health is going to be a huge contributor, contributing factor to what they can do as a team. Okay, So then let's see what the NFC East I want to stay there. This has been a division that has been. I mean, I'm not gonna sugarcoat it bad the last two years, right? Is this finally the year they get over the hump, But it's no longer the NFC least. But maybe it turns into like an NFC beast or something where it's not not really a joke anymore in the NFL. Yeah. I mean, I don't want to say it's that division is a joke. The cool thing is, it is competitive. You usually have a new winner every single year, and you just never know. I think it's Sure in terms of Super Bowl contenders. Yes, it's not the the coolest looking division. But I think as from competitive nature and the history and the fan base and all that stuff, I think it's one of the most entertaining divisions is because you have the most passionate fans from I mean, from Philly to Dallas to New York to Washington. I mean, they're all nuts playing in Division. I was in a giant in Washington, so I got to see it first hand basis, so it's going to be competitive is going to be interesting to see You know, Speaking of when I was in the Giants, we got in at nine and seven, right and made the run. So the whole point is to get in. Well, who's one of those teams will that you look at and say they kind of under the radar? You know, they're not the Chiefs not to Packers. They're not the box. But there are a team that could maybe sneak into this thing and have a unexpected running The post season. There's a dark horse team in the league. You know, it's funny. It's um I think there are a solid team and this is based on health. Is Minnesota. They're so interesting because I feel like they're they're sure. Pretty much every position on the field, You know, Um Her cousin. He's going to deliver his his standards, You know, 4000 yards 25 Touchdown. You know 8 to 10 picks. He's going to be very, very efficient. You know, obviously, if Justin Jefferson who's who's unreal Can Adam feeling stay healthy? They just paid Harrison Smith. He's outstanding. He's going to be a hall of fame where you got Patrick Peterson. You get Bashar billing on the outside. And you got down to cook and double cook the hell because he's you know, to me talk quite running back in the entire league indicates to me. I think everyone believes that so I think there's someone who can sneak up on a lot of teams, just their respect it but I feel like they're not taking it as serious as they should be. So I like Minnesota to be. I guess the dark bush and I don't care They are, but I think they're a team that could sneak up and make a late run in the playoffs this year. Cool. Will Blackmon. Thanks so much for joining us on the Goodyear hotline. We really appreciate it. We'll talk to you later. No, thank you. I appreciate it so much. See you later. You can follow. Will Blackmon on Twitter at Will Blackmon. Um, he brings up a good point against the Vikings. I feel like this is a team that just like, Let's be honest. Just not sexy like you look at the NFC North. Good thing. Aaron Rodgers is coming back. The Chicago Bears got question marks at the quarterback position from a Chicago Bears fan. So I'm doing it for the whole NFL. Not from my own period liking. Um, the Chicago Bears outside of the quarterback position. They're like, you don't really know what you have in them and the Vikings just there. One of those. I have no idea what nobody's talking about them because a convert the car. I have no idea the quarterback competition in Chicago's of intrigue, understanding. It's a big market. Matt Nagy is come from Kansas City and all these storylines of Can he be a guy can act. The run game. Get offense going the whole Aaron Rodgers, saying the Packers happening lead continue to be elite. There. The reading EVP there. Detroit is a nothing burger..

It steph gilmore one or two ago he was just kind of shutdown corner obviously but he was the face of a really good defense and the brandon. Staley improves his defense. I wouldn't be. I wouldn't be surprised if the face of that defense. Whoever it is. And i have been being joey bosa. Whoever that the face is would be in consideration for this award so three safeties have one in the past twenty years in fact if you go beyond that looks like only four safeties in history. Five safeties in history have won it And two of them were dick anderson and kenny easley. Before i was born on the three in the modern era was an a six year period. Ed reed no four bob sanders. Oh seven paula. Malo in twenty ten So it's not unheard of. It would just need the charges after being credibly. Relevant that your because all three of those teams the ravens colton steelers were legitimate super bowl contention the year that they put together. I love james i. I think he's gonna be. I think the odds of him being an incredibly impactful important player very high. You ever look at a safety box score. No no that's a good point. But i do think now it just happened. They're just like deeply boring. Okay these are these are media takes just as much as their football takes right like it's i feel like the nose getting smarter i feel like they're more stats out there. That capture how good is safety. And i think he's going to play more roles than than just to say he's going to be a linebacker in that defense is going to be a slot. Cornerback in defense. I think he's in a rush the passer. He's like one of the best. Pass rush us. Jamal adams before jamaa adam so i think he's going to be able to do play all these roles and that will help him win the award. Even i don't believe he's going to win it and just think it's really hard to win one of these things when you're sort of like a jack-of-all-trades right because it's much better to just have like fifteen sacks you know the other part of that is. I do think that having a young quarterback there if they're really good and really relevant young quarterback new coach like there are other people who are going to be sort of sucking the attention in terms of. Oh hey look look what they're doing that's me. That's my thought to the bosa. Kuka staley coach of the year run I think a lot of times with this. And i remember the universe humanity with heisman stuff. It's like the media has trouble giving the credit to the right person. Sometimes where it's like all of a sudden. We're giving a bunch of the heisman votes to ken. Dorsey you know And then the running back can't win at that to me if a team is actually making a legitimate run from from worst to first or from mediocre to great Which would be the chargers case I think it'd be hard hard for the media to parse it out in real time. I mean look at legion of boom. Like we still have trouble figuring out who was actually the best player agent boom. Even though you know seahawks people know that it was daryl. Bevill was a key all right. Let's do comeback player of the year. You hasn't floor dak prescott. I mean this. This one seems sort easy to me. If he has a good if he has a good season i think it's sorta locked up right like profile quarterback short but he he'd lot of weirdness around dak now. Yeah yeah they're yeah. That's a really good. You make really. Was it a okay. So i i wanted to dak here but you know he's got the arm. Soreness whatever you wanna call it comes out and then it's going to miss a couple of weeks and then it's we're not going to rush them. It's he could play game if it was regular season right now. Jerry jones is calling in texas rangers to figure it out because quarterbacks on so. I had this arm injury baseball players do if we're predicting if i was betting this which i wouldn't i would not put my money on that situation. I just i think the dak prescott is the best player. Who has the capability to win this award. But i also am just so nervous about that situation unraveling very quickly so i. I agree in have said a few times on this very show. The vibes are very bad. However i think the vibes have improved. Like he's practicing seems like things are going in the right direction. Maybe i should i am. I am charlie brown and dak prescott shoulder is football. But i still feel like if he's playing a relatively full season he kind of has it. I don't see anybody else winning it. And i would rather lean towards that than okay. Well there's a number of other candidates where xyz different things go right whereas doc it's just like if he plays. I think he's got stephen. I'm gonna go cam newton now. I'm just kidding. I i am. I am an idiot in forgot. Dak prescott exists. I had dermot jane's but dak prescott the right pick kevin. You're not gonna be able to talk me out of it. I don't care about vibes. Like he's the best. He's one of the best quarterbacks in the league award winner knows. You don't care about fives. I i am overlook the prescott fan. I am just leery of these situations. And i don't know who you think carson wentz is better than prescott admitted curse. I carson wentz. Comeback player of the year is not prepared for I think it's going to be so..

"Humor dot com Hotline A little bit of good news today, if for a cold span, Kevin Oh, and give it to us. KB from one of 75 the fan. Tell us about our quarterback. Carson wins. Yeah. Positive injury knows. Here we go. Person went back to work today, three weeks removed from the surgery almost three weeks ahead of the regular season opener. And Yeah, he really was not limited. They said he would be. He did not take part of the team drills for about the first power of practice. He did everything about already quarterback would do and probably above and beyond 30 later and that's through 30 passes and seven on seven girls would say very, very big number, so they kept it in controlled settings. No pastor, if anything like that, But the guy that you again had foot surgery three weeks ago, I didn't see any sort of hesitancy. Wow. Oh, boy. Atmosphere toughed it out. He was pretty aggressive in all of lateral movement. How invasive was that surgery? I mean, I mean, today I have to put them under or was this like? The local sort of thing. It was it was it sort of a big deal. Yeah, So it was local. The doctor David Porter. They actually get the Clinton Elson surgery very next day, And he's a guy that Tony Dungy tells the story about how when Bob Sanders came out of the draft, a lot of teams red flag Bob Sanders didn't think that he would stay healthy in this foot issue, and David Porter's I Trust me. I'll do the surgery. You're going to get him back to full health. Obviously, Bob didn't said career, but you would have taken the Bob Sanders that off the full 20 Super Bowl and become NFL defensive player of the year. So, um, yeah, right here in your own backyard. David Porter helped out And basically it was a fragment of a bone and I kind of from what I understand and my medical, you know, knowledge is lacking to fade away. It's like the operation game. You just kind of go in there. Left out the little fragment. There was no ligament damage. No nerve damage Here. He is back in three weeks. So, Kevin, you said that he threw a lot of passes today Did seven on seven. How did he look? I mean, I anticipate there's probably a little rust there. But how did he look? Yeah, You know, it's it's weird. His numbers who was 18 of 30 and seven on Saturday at 60%. It's not a great number by any means when there's no pass rush, just like watching them out there and some of the throws he made and some of the individual pros he made. It's like, wow. Attitude is a different talent of the two quarterbacks I've been watching. In the last few weeks. So, um and I'm just being honest there to me. I was more concerned about workload and effectiveness, like I turned to some rascal wasn't glaring rots. But to me the fact that he did as much activity as he did. I was kind of like, Wow. Um, I mean, barring any setback, I think he plays week one. So.

"If Cold spin. Kevin Bowen. Give it to us. KB from one of 75 the fan. Tell us about our quarterback. Carson wins. Yeah. Positive injury news. Here we go. Uh, person went back to work today. Three weeks removed. I need surgery almost three weeks ahead of the regular season opener. And, Yeah, he really was not limited. They said he would be. He did not take part of the team drills for about the first hour of practice. He did everything that starting quarterback would do and probably above and beyond. Only, uh, me, and that's through 30 passes in seven on seven girls, which is a very, very big numbers, so they kept them in controlled settings. No pastor or anything like that. For a guy that again have put three weeks ago. I didn't see any sort of hesitancy or Wow. You know. Oh, boy, I'm afraid to test it out. I mean, he was pretty aggressive in all of lateral movement. How invasive was that surgery? I mean, I mean, today, I have to put him under. Or was this like, Uh, local sort of thing. It was it was it sort of a big deal. Yeah, So it was local to Dr David Porter. Uh, they actually get Nelson surgery the very next day, and he's a guy that Tony Donkey tells the story about how when Bob Sanders came out of the draft, a lot of teams red flag. Bob Sanders didn't think that he would help him this issue. David Porter's I Trust Me. I'll do the surgery. You're gonna get him back to full health obviously bombed in family career. But you would have taken the Bob Sanders that the Super Bowl and become NFL defensive player of the year. So, um, yeah, right here in your own backyard. David Porter helped out and basically it was a fragment of a bone and I kind of from what I understand, and my medical knowledge is lacking to send away. It's like the operation game. You just kind of go in there. Lift up the little fragment. There was no look at the damage. No nerve damage Here. He is back in three weeks. So, Kevin, you said that he threw a lot of passes today did seven on seven. How did he look? I mean, I anticipate there's probably a little rust there. But how did he look? Yeah, You know, it's it's weird. His numbers. He was 18 37 on seven. That's 60%. It's not a great number by any means when there's no pass rush. Just like watching them out there and some of the throws he made and from the individual throws he made. It's like, Wow, I have to to go different talent and the two quarterbacks I've been watching for the last few weeks. So, um and I'm just being honest there to me. I was more concerned about workloads and effectiveness expected somewhere else. There wasn't glaring rots. But to me the fact that he did as much activity as he did. I was kind of like, Wow. Um, I mean, barring any setback, I think he plays week one. So let's hope right because in this past weekend, uh, boy that wasn't pretty. No, I was like Connect. Please just watch the Indy car race really have a lot of these guys go back out there. It was ugly Elegir needed to make a statement did not do that. Jacob Beeson was awful. Awful early on did bounce back with anything today It's probably the worst day. Training camp practice Still, you know, I think we're starting to be reminded of the ups and downs with the young quarterback, day three drafted quarterback. These are 4th and 6th round pick. For a reason. So I would say the return of not only Carson Wentz, but Quentin Nelson and Ryan Kelly to practice came at a very much needed time for the old morale. What was Ryan Kelly? Like the offensive lineman? Was he? I mean, is he back in full form, or I mean, what was he participating in? Yeah. Not full yet for him or Nelson, yet an elbow issue early in camp, so And again going to even those guys back into it. But I mean, the fact that both of them and I throw one set of this category if you're practicing three weeks outside of the regular season opener. Yeah, I mean, that that leaves you at least a half 1008 practices pretty intense practices. Need to kind of ramp it up and be ready to go week one and we talked about the schedule. It's one of the most difficult starting stretches to the season you'll ever see and I don't care what team and it's one of the public. Five game stretch is medical history. The fact that these guys are out there right now it's great news Kevin Bowen joining us from one Oh 752 fan covering the Indianapolis Colts preseason and training camp. So if Carson Wentz is ago and a lot of fans are crossing their fingers there The backup position wins has been known to be injured before. Has Jacob Essen separated from Sam Ehlinger? At this point? I think he has. You know, Frank Reich used the phrase yesterday that they're both in the same zip code. Probably go with. They're both in the same area code. You know, I feel like they are. They are brutally far away. But at the same time for me, Ethan, um, has been the quarterback that would give you a small sliver of chance. When against the teams. You're going to see the first month plus the people like and by that I mean, you're not beating the Seattle Seahawks in a 13 to 10 games, going to need a quarterback that makes him throws down the field. And really principles and some tight windows, and then you can have shown more of an ability to do that. And also, I know even through two pretty bad picks today, but in the two preseason games and calendars barely played a game If you add up all the all the you know, wraps and whatnot, and he's throwing three interceptions. Jacob Easton has played more than Ellinger and have not thrown an interception. So I think you got a factor that in as well as why I would go with East and over a longer Is there a K B? Is there a general consensus amongst among the players about the you know you have a short preseason in a longer regular season? Now, um like or dislike? Do you get a feeling or at some sort of consensus? Either way on that. I think I want to see their paychecks. It'll be like, um, but You know, it's In an ideal world that probably a 22 preseason games, and they've been 18 regular season game. Now, that might be a little bit too much. Four players, but we don't have money talk. And especially for those back in the roster, guys when you might only get one contract, you know you're getting paid a little bit more on that. You're gonna be all all over it, So I'm sure some players are thinking themselves four. That's a lot of football. If you go to 18 games, you guys only played 17 games. You know, these are all questions well down the road, But, yeah, I think it depends who you ask if it's the veterans. They're very happy with the shortened free season. Younger guys. They love another opportunity to prove yourself. Gaby.

"I think there's you know what happens to you. Know one coaching position. In how much they learn that. That -sition is one thing but when they do go out there on special teams and make things happen. You know i could remember it was. Sean constantly made a lot of place blocks. You know punts for touchdowns for a couple of times. He's doing that. Bob sanders making a big hit against michigan state and obviously you know where his career went. There's there's opportunities there and in special teams as part of the football games and when you know you can go out there. And i think they get more comfortable when they've been out there playing on those things and maybe not be responsible for exactly what we do on defense but out there and make a play on special teams gives them a little bit of confidence like hey i can go out and tackle these guys that are carrying the ball or you know trying to defend something. I think that that's what gives them a little bit more of a more confidence and then helps me out a little bit to say. Yeah i can watch out there and actually competing does. The big thing is about competing. Are you competing not compete competing and you know. Some guys wilder their plan. But they're not really playing at the highest level that they can play as coaches. We wanna make sure that they can play at their highest level. And are they doing and you can see that sometimes special teams. Hey this guy's really really good job and you can see that with terry. That's it was obvious if you look this watching say god. That was an impact on special things studying the game. And that's or refer defensive you've dunk size that over the years. I remember talking to.

Health portfolio that have raised over one hundred million dollars and I would say that the perfect stage of companies that can to as our pre revenue with close to two pilot and after this twelve week would come many of them find the right path than the way to jump to the market and to start delivering it and sell it to potential customers where was accelerating health founded and headed flint trump to your attention of energy joined up so At health was founded by by. Jackie wilmot And bob sanders. They are currently based in louisville kentucky. Mm jack has a long experience on the parasite and bob has long experience on the venture capital site We focus in healthcare and they came together to start this exploration program in louisville la villa while there is a inter interesting concentration of Healthcare companies in that area of kentucky and later on the day they got engaged with We got engaged with a diplomatic pharmaceuticals and d'amato foundation and other players in flint An time they were trying to come up with a new Healthcare hub and That's where we came up. They invited us to run this innovation program and to start an ecosystem. Meant to build up Wrong the healthcare and again You were telling me before we started. Why flint because i questioned. She didn't seem like flint doesn't immediately come to mind when i think of healthcare but apparently i'm wrong right yes well but but that's always a great question and there are several reasons Dead explains flint so First of all there's a very welcoming community that embraces interpreters in startups and eco system has multiple resources We find three universities and for health systems in this region we the doors open to meet with enters their products to conduct studies or even pilot. That's the experience that we are having here since two thousand eighteen and for example the university of michigan war early medical center or or even michigan health Active actively engaged with started during the boot camp and Besides these These take colder. Is that it is very important for startups Date they can also find the encounter large community of ngo investors That are local or nationwide and venture capital firms and for example. We bartering with investigatory. The word the michigan by medical venture fund or by star capital or a skype one ventures and all of them are willing to see Enterpreneurs during the bootcamp to provide guidance in shared best practices to raise capital and to achieve the right people that can help them and because the smart cash for them or so. What sort of applicants. So you're looking for companies in the healthcare universe. We we are industry agnostic that we work with digital health medical devices therapeutics diagnostics healthcare services companies and solutions solutions for payers. But to be more precise look for early stage companies and enterpreneurs working in solutions that solve painting in healthcare marketplace and the ideal candidate must have Committed team or founded funded that. He's committed to move forward with the company and product. I would said must be ready pilot or near that stage and once we are in flint. We look to engage with health preneurs in this area and genesee county. And so what does it take. Were saying what it takes to qualify. What do you get. When you join the cohort. They have to pay it all free. How does it work now. We take them. They don't have to pay a. We take a very small equity stake of the company's two point five percent. They can see on our website and what they will have during this twelve week with camp. it's It's the access to to work with all the coaches and mentors and and they can meet with subject matters of critical areas of healthcare including fda regulatory fasten like Property were a product design among owners and during this twelve week. boot camp We tackle different topics. They must let's Redefine their product or service Come up we help them coming up with a with a value proposition. That is Connecting with with the with the customers on the other side and then data willing to pay for it the first years of the flint program beyond any particular success stories. you'd like to share any particular clients. i guess i think that's when when we start talking about the exciting exciting parts and we see companies making good progress on top of my head. I can mention into bec- who recently won the prestigious health longevity challenge award from the national academy of medicine and is piloting local hospitals Another company completed the study. A early medical onto another one is is demoing with a hospital clinic now. The age of covid where everyone's doing virtual i assume that you're you're accelerator requires in presence or is that done virtually as well. It's virtually actually during during covid go last year we decided to move everything to covert to make sure that no one Or to ensure that everyone is safe. And that was one of the challenge that we had last year A to a new platform where people can work together in virtual way. So does that mean then. You can attract a much wider field of candidates because i mean if you have to be an accelerator for twelve weeks and flint. One would think you'd have to be influenced or does this mean now that you can say work with the folks out of the grand rapids or traverse city or all.

"I'm expecting Jimmy Garoppolo to be in the mix. And now if it's not Sam Donald Garoppolo to be the next quarterback of the New York Jets. And if it's Garoppolo and were drafting the Vontae Smith and suddenly we're signing a couple of the guys because we got like $80 billion. Hey, maybe where the Super Bowl next year, you know the Jaguars. We need a couple of years. You know, they'll get used to things with with with with Lawrence's stuff they're gonna be like in four years. We could be their next year, Mike, we could go from two and 14 to the Super Bowl. Well, we just need Jimmy Garoppolo to stay healthy and get back to performance. So we could talk about Jimmy more frequently than we have in recent memory, because I mean, it's been a minute. Yeah, it has been digitally drop in a jag for a while. Now, Jimmy drops that kind of been my favorites. Because tight shirt just always cycles through them. You know, we get the Jimmy Then we get there. Jimmy and Jimmy and then that way. Get that. So what I should have got to find a way to get them all back now, eh? So listen, These are both great hires right? Urban Meyer is a great hire The Jets and the Jaguars because you want to talk about what the big fits are what The good fits are These are two of the best jobs that are out there because and the charges is the other one right? One of the three best jobs out there. It's Jaguar's Jets Chargers. Why Jaguars comes with everything you need. We talked about the beginning of the show. Trevor Laurence, number one. You already have good offensive and defensive, young talent on that team, and you have all kinds of money to spend. Urban Meyer's going to have the Jaguars and the Super Bowl in the next four years. I mean, they're going to be there. They have everything going for them. The Jets is a great job because you have all kinds of money to spend. You have the number two overall pick in the draft. It's not quite as good as the Jaguars, but it's still a really, really good opening. And now for the charges, of course that comes with an offense. It's ready to go. It's like here, just here's the keys. What is this is a great sports car. Just take it around and, you know, do your own thing and drive it. The charges is a great job because it comes Ready to go. But the fact that here is urban Meyer, who was really ticketed to the Jaguars and nobody else We mentioned this last night on the show. And maybe this is the Jets listening to me, And that would be great if they are, man. Oh, my goodness is that we told you how slow the head coaching market was going in the NFL and that nobody's really been hired yet, And I don't understand why, Because even though it's Cove it, it's 2021. You're having. People interview first via Zoom, then you're bringing them in in person. It's difficult to travel. Robert Saleh has been available for 10 or 12 days, and he's the one guy everybody wants. How is he not hired by now? Same thing. Arthur Smith has had time off Eric, the enemy had time had a weak team to make interviews. Before you had to make a decision. The market's moving really, really slow. And and we told you that it's gotta move. It's it's got to get bigger and someone's got to do something. Because you're if you wanna wait and say, Well, there's these eight guys. We like. Well, guess what? You're gonna lose out in the top three or four of them. You know if there's four or five good offensive coordinators you want to talk about. We gotta talk to Joe Brady. We're gonna talk about You talk to too many guys, You're gonna lose those first couple of guys right? So Urban Meyer to the Jaguars Robert Saleh, who was the number 11 a guy at worst. This coaching cycle, Right salad Arthur Smith with the two guys Everybody wanted. Sal is gone. If Arthur Smith is still unhygienic 24 hours, I will be stunned My Carmen because now the coaching carousel just started moving like that, and decisions are going to be made fast need to be made quickly and decisively. He's already had a couple of interviews. You're gonna have to say all right, it's not Perfect situation right now. We kind of have to go with our gut or we're gonna be stuck Making the best out of here is maybe a choice Number five and six we had for our head coach. We gotta hire one of these guys. The Jaguars were decisive. The Jets were decisive right after we mentioned it last night, and now you're going to see other teams have to do it that way, Because the best teams the best decisions were made by the two teams with the best openings. You have the Jaguars you had the Jets. Now they both got their guys. Yeah, Those were the three teams, including the Chargers, where everything was set up. You know, the only thing getting concerned me in Jacksonville in and I'll mention it again was that report that talked about shot con picking the regional being hands on with the roster? How the hell is that any different than Jerry Jones? Except for the color of the logo side of that wall? It's right. I mean, it's it becomes the same thing. And I don't get the benefit of playing in Dallas or coaching in Dallas. And all of those things s O. That was the only part of it that that struck me. But If you want to go and hand over a big check. That means you're also probably going to be willing to give up some of that power. And so now the wheel starts to spin a little faster. Now the one guy in all of this process that you wonder what it becomes for him. Is Eric the enemy because he can't interview anymore. Uh, right. So if you were undecided in your left and said, Hey, we'll talk again. Well, that doesn't happen unless the Browns beat him. Maybe they do or they go on and well, they play the following week or win the Super Bowl and lose the Super Bowl. Whatever, but you don't want to wait that long, right? That's another 34 weeks. In your off season to start putting plans in place. Sure, you can't have everybody in the building right now. But the idea that you can at least start the process of reviewing college tape and potential free agents and start working and finessing Your salary cap restrictions because a couple of these places it's not pretty. Right. That's the other part of trying to hire. Wait. I only have have restrictions here here here like trying to sell the Houston job. Especially, Shawn Watson doesn't want to be that stuff, right? I mean, we have no money. We're locked into JJ Watt, who is good. Couple plays the game where you re V makes an impact. I'm not saying he's done, but for what he's getting paid per year relative to your salary cap and again, it's not my money, but it does affect how you get to spend elsewhere. It becomes ah, pretty big deal and the guy that gets hired, you know, first order of business. Is it all right? If we figured out whether to Shawn wants a beer or not, So take that out of the mix. I've said all along the turnkey. Operation, and all of this was the Chargers when they went seven and nine, but for a couple of decisions down the stretch in a number of games, there's a playoff team. Right. You've got tell. And you're missing a couple of key components. You know to injury. Not that everybody wasn't affected. But you know, you gotta figure out how to make Derwin James. Not the next Bob Sanders. Look it up people. That's football knowledge, right? Get you, Bob Sanders, you know, go hard guys, but also just a guy who was fantastic when he was available to the Colts during those years. But for the Jaguars, I mean, you get to go in with all those draft picks and and a giant pile of money. And the cachet of state. Look, I win everywhere. Just follow me. Come with me. If you want to live. It's a beautiful thing. And then with Robert Saleh, I mean, you know, you got the clips from Richard Sherman and all these other guys and they're walking testimonials of what he is in terms of being a lever and for the Jets again, as long as ownerships gets the hell out of the way, Douglas and he could be quite formidable there..

Jaguars New York Jets Jimmy Garoppolo Vontae Smith Urban Meyer Robert Saleh Chargers Sam Donald Garoppolo Shawn Watson Bob Sanders Eric Trevor Laurence Lawrence Mike NFL Joe Brady Derwin James Jerry Jones
