"I'm getting good at it and finally after five years but boys. This was a personal. Throw for me. Bob mackenzie. There's nothing to add. Let's go to minor kenzi. The minor hockey league story is twenty eight or ten. Yeah no no complaints here. I without further ado. Mr bob mackenzie bring on our next guest for my money. He's the best hockey reporter. The sport has ever seen over the last forty years. You've read them in print and online. You've seen him on. Tsn and nbc. In you've heard him break down the draft the in free agency with each other plum. Thanks so much for joining us in the spitting checklist. podcast bob. Mackenzie how you doing my friend excellent. Ra that was a very fine introduction. Well read us some really big words. Diplom- obvious biz is being helping you with that all. You're taking shots already. Poppy murder say which which nickname should we have. Given you off the hockey or because i hear that you create what alcohol. You're drinking at the time bobby margarita. Margarita being more famous online. Of course yeah and the funny thing is they drink a lot more widening margarita. But one year after free agency was july. First free agency is over. I get to the cottage. And i just just for a lark. I might have mixed up a murder rita and and on twitter. I just changed my name instead of bob. Mackenzie bob mckenzie said bobby margarita. And everybody kinda went. Not saying the kind of stock. It's actually kind of funny but nicknamed some not so complimentary over the years. But that's one of the you must be switched over to the reds by now though with the weather cool in that going down a bit. I stick with red zero round bob. I heard that you can give the advice on any great bottle of wine under fifty bucks and considering how well your careers god. You've turned into a wine snob. All i'm i'm a bit of a wine snob big. I don't know that much. I know what i like. And i i try to learn more and get more involved. I'll tell you what i am is is. This is a bad thing to admit. But i may wind last snob. I would rather drained thirty dollar bottle of wine out of an eighty dollars. Glass then an eighty dollars bottle of wine out of thirty dollar glass. So there's these glasses called salto in their in their one piece in there the standards really thin in the really strong really enhance the dushi white wine drinking excess not a mason jar bag no not a nascent that'd be known to drink rum and coke senate mason jars so But i got one of these and there's another one. They bet different types. This is way off topic early on. But what the hell here we go. It's an actual glass. That doesn't have a stem and it's got a little bit of a flat spot on the bowl of the the thing. So you can. You can hold onto this wine. Glass in swirl it and it's just a little knob on the bottom and it's got a flat spot on the side so you can lay down on a forty five degree angle with the wine in it and it sits perfectly and mike pelfrey serve elliott. Tsn thinks it's a great class and he said to me you know bed. Glass has just the right amount of do shit and it's so true. That's my type of glass biz. That's my visit. Drink came out of a solo cup. So you don't even worry about it. We're already making chocolates logos on them as we speak. Have you sign a couple of like. There's some of your books. I can't believe. I'm on a legend that has said where mantra to ago i was driving from where i live on balsam lake into. Tsn and i was driving right through port. Perry and there's a place called the trading post there and they've got a big billboard. It's usually like coconut coconut. Shrimp three ninety nine. A pound or whatever and and blazing in big letters. It's like we have pink whitney here so i took a picture of the sign. Incentives to wit. 'cause i said you truly are a legend. The may even for even import perry your goddamn billboard paying quit and he made it up you. Didn't you left out the part that you just rip the right in there and to grab a bottle. But i think it's funny you bring you bring up like july first and get into your cabin for so long now. You've done the whole season the deadline. The you know the cup finals then the free agency has it always been that after that. Boom you're shutting it down no phone. Are you putting the phone away. Or you're not even checking text and stuff. Yeah for the most part. But i mean you gotta when you were on you never fully put it away but yeah you would send a very strong message in the longer the longer year. Yeah i longer. I was at tsn. And what have you but actually. There's a funny story on that so. I was working at the toronto star in the hockey news. I always had two jobs. Most of the plan is they used to call me to job. Because i had. I had a fulltime job at the hockey news or later the toronto star and then back to the news but i was also working like almost fulltime hours at tsn. That was through the late eighties. And all of the ninety s. so in round. Two thousand i i. It was just crazy too much work. Getting too much. And i will listen. Either you guys are going to hire me enough to buy all my time or i'm out of here and and so we're having a negotiation in part of that. I put in part of the negotiation. That i get nine weeks off in the summer that from july second the day after free agency until the day after labor day. I'm off and so one of the one of the guys. Go shooting with with sign with it but there was another guy akia sanity looked at it and he. He wanted to know why that was the case. So the one of the big boston said to me. You're gonna have to talk to this guy and kinda massage a little bit. has he. doesn't think you should get the whole summer off. He thinks it's ridiculous so i'm having that conversation he goes. Okay explain to me why. You need all july all of august off and i said well you know. It's really demanding job and doing it a long time and i want to do it a long time. And you don't allow yourself to recharge the burn out factor would be really huge and you gotta worry about my health and i want to do this for a really long time. And he goes and the guy. The guy was totally unimpressed. He's like yeah. Well you know what we all work hard. We all work hundred hours a week. And i don't get to.

"Big oil. Yeah wish she'd give me a little bit as one thing that people don't know about me yet. So we know the james doug intolerably log things lots of things that they they They don't know about me one thing so we know we know that james ties tyron does leg. Yeah we also found out that harney ryan sing. Doesn't know how to tie a tie. he gets other people to do that for him and i think when he's working at home it's his wife ties the tie for we here. So maybe there's a scene with neckties. So i i always go. We are only high one now. And it's always a four windsor. Not half windsor knot foreign hand or whatever they call those other the full windsor and the reason. I know retie for windsor. As a when i might say well as i do is because my dad was a close worse. My dad was very nicely dressed. I'd dad worked for that worked on the production at the hollander trough and he would wear a title work every day and then after. Take the tie off when he got to work to work in the factory and then put it back on at the end of the day. Wow because he just thought that you should dress properly for free something like work. So he taught me how to tie a full windsor and You gotta make sure that the nada straight you gotta make sure that it drives me crazy when i watch tv and i see people on tv and their ties crooked. Not it's not buttoned right up to. There's a little bit of space between your top button and the not. It bothers me if the dimples way off center there's many things about ties that would offend my sensibilities because my dad taught neither proper way to time for windsor. Not that's interesting the storyteller about your dad. My dad's been retired for. I don't know five six seven years. And for the longest time. I think covert has changed everybody of course but i'd go over to his house. He's not working but he is wearing dress pants dress shirt and a tie and i'm like where where are you going. I woke up today side to get at wearing a dress shirt every day in retirement and he very rarely warrant at twenty was worked at. That's amazing but not not dissimilar to my dad's attitude who my my. My dad always used to say you trust. You never know where you're going to meet or into and and no. I was taught me young age. But i didn't follow a lot of nice. 'cause i i go looking like i hear ya. "Couldn't tax anybody email. Anybody there was no messaging you. If you wanna talk to somebody you had to pick up the phone and call and hope that they call you back or you get of and have actual conversations. It was a much more in many respects. It was more labor intensive but in many respects was much more personal and You know there's pros and cons to both sides of it. Yeah when so so. i'm. I'm curious about how you disseminate information you you've for the most part for for most of your or what you're most best known for is your your time with tsn and they've got programming and you're on these programs and obviously the ownership also owns radio stations and so on right so you're sort of fulfilling your obligations as an employee when you get a scoop and you're not scott. Let's say scheduled to be on somewhere. Do is is what was the flake. Do you struggle with. Should i throw this out on twitter. Even though there's no value to for example tsn like wizar- struggle with that or was it. No this is what i'm supposed to do over time. We batted around a lot internally at. Tsn we talk about that a lot and you know. Initially you know you're right. The idea was to try to drive as many eyeballs as possible to dot ca. Two more hits they get the more advertising naked cell. You wanted to it a destination so that you create this sense that if you want your few one news and information on the national hockey league you're gonna go to tsn getting on tsn dossier to get that information and so absolutely initially you you normally would put it on tsn dot ca and and and that was even before social media before twitter and and quite often it was like you would put it on there but there was no way to really promote it outside of it being on the front page of tsn dot ca and and somebody on the radio or television. Say a story on dot ca. Look who had just got fired or look who just got hired or look who just got traded. So you would do that over time. I think it morphed into something else where because social media gave everybody every reporter no matter how big a paper. How big an outlet he worked for a small note lady worked for Virtually not just reporters gabe. He'd anybody the ability to break news instantaneously and And so i think if you wanted to try to you know if the goal was for us at tsn and probably part of the reason why they hired me full fulltime one hundred percent In around in two thousand They wanted to be the source for all news and information at hockey. And so and ideally you wanted a on tsn. As i said but over time and more recently you know they would be understanding and knowing that was very competitive. Now get a scoop. It might only last for two minutes so you wanna be. I wanna be right. You wanna be i. Yeah so just put it up on on on twitter and And and that's it we don't that's the means. But because you're still creating that sense of if you're breaking story after story after story or pieces of information on social media in your doing so under the at tsn. Bob mackenzie banner is still benefiting from the reputation and that means forcing that sense of people. If you want your news and information you want to get from. Bob mackenzie darren dreger frank seravalli or pierre lebron or whoever happens to be working at tsn on any given day That that is so true. Were there were there stories that you know you'd hear from the hockey world that Could be seen as more of a personal nature or not concerning the game that you'd get that for some reason people wanted out there that you say listen to says this has nothing to do with what happens on the ice. This has nothing to do with the business of the team. And so on that you would sort of let go others would pick up I'm curious about you know. Are there lines drawn especially with you being you know known as sort of the You know the first corner coat. nhl insider. Yeah it's i don't know. I guess best way to answer. That question would be simply say everybody. In the media business has to have sort of an internal threshold of what their guiding principles on how they're gonna go about their job and so you know if you're asking me certainly in the eighties and nineties when i was more perceived to be on a beat if you will or in the rinks more more as opposed to being in the studio or so much work being done from home now even before even before covid you know you could work out of the house. A lot and social media The communication with so many people But to to be. I wouldn about in covering the national hockey league back in those days. You know if. I saw a player at a bar. And you know the night before a game i wasn't in i wasn't to me that that wasn't ridiculously newsworthy. Certainly not because it happened so often in the eighties and nineties. It was a different game back then. The thresholds were differ. It'd be unusual now. I mean if you saw a big at each on superstar the night before gaming in a bar and so i guess there's such a gray area to the question. So i mean i i mean if it's the night before game seven of the stanley cup final and you see star player for the team. And he's no swashbuckler drunk at a bar you know that's that that would probably be news. You know what i i am. Not but if it's nine o'clock at night and there's a guy in their glass of wine or even a couple of beers or whatever and he's playing game thirty seven of the season the next day. Eleven o'clock midnight that that wouldn't that wouldn't register for for me. So i don't know i just i just try to use my instincts and better judgement to decide what's news what's not news. What's in the public interest in the best interest And what's on a need to know and You know Probably made mistakes both ways along the way but you know everybody's got have their own sensibilities if you want to call them or guiding principles on how you want to go where your job nice. I wanna get to the book but one one question before we do. Is there one scoop one piece of news that you broker you covered that. You're most proud of what..

"It was really really cool to see. It's it's interesting. 'cause i had bob mackenzie on and we were talking about raising kids in this time. And or even just because we both had kind of similar blue-collar upbringings and now you know he's raising his his boys as you know bob right in that with its own set of challenges we look. What other things have you done to try to like okay. This isn't normal the way we live right for the most part. I think you know what i i live. A really sort of quiet life Pretty boring guy and they don't live in aurora north of toronto. There's is no. I don't think real massive. Wow factor with their friends or anything about what i do or anything like that. I think you know in my early years. It was fine when my son was. I can remember I don't know eight or seven or eight and taking them to the world. Juniors in ottawa would taveras. Pk and all those guys around the team. I think they signed a a program for them. And i can remember him like to just. He had no concept. This wasn't what every was like he was in the dressing room or whatever that was kind of fun. Like you sound like you have no idea right But but i don't think beyond that. I just and i think that's one thing i'm proud of that. Both my wife and i've done a good job that they're dots they don't they don't think I don't think they think anything. Besides i have a few books out in my my family's not sports obsessed family. Tsn is not on a lot in our house. Unless i'm watching it in the basement so I think they're they're pretty normal. Besides a tactic they love going to the world juniors at christmas time and they think that's pretty cool I don't think there is They don't sit around isn't the never go..

"Is this right? We have four thousand People Watch. nope, we have forty one people watching. That's four. Both a little quiet now it says. Both a little quiet. What the fuck you know! What though there's an you? People don't know what you're talking about. We have podcast. Check, one, two, one, two three engineering CEVANTES. We just made the most viral tweet of the. True. How do you? How do we feel about having a barrel tweet from the brunch account? Knock common, not not uncommon, but not common. No yeah, but I like it because it's like very on brand if it was a tweet that if we'd like. Sold out to make a viral yeah! I would have been pretty upset about that, but we didn't. We We made a very on brand viral. Have you watched? Have you watched the show Dave yet? I think I've talked to you about that. I have not the little I don't know it's I'm I'm four episodes in not that good show but I'm just watching it okay. In the last episode was his buddy starts to manage him and decides he needs to go viral. So he goes viral by walking into a they take a video of him walking into a library dressed as the mask, he jumps onto a table and yells somebody suck me. It goes viral, but he's mad because everyone just knows him as the somebody suck me guy instead of multiple. show the first episodes really good and I think the second solid and then third bad fourth, not so terrible. I will say there are a lot of responses to the saw on my normal twitter. I have notifications muted unless the person follows me. So you don't get a lot of clutter so like if you're tweets, retweeted and someone response to that I don't see that because I don't care about that person I. Don I want to see someone who? They. They don't matter. so I. Don't have a lot of that clutter on my own twitter, but I do not have that setting on the brunch twitter account so there are a lot of responses to this tweet with. Why does this say celebrities? I only recognize Bob Mackenzie for. PT. They're. Basically people are like I recognized at most two or three people in this. Yeah the end like a little behind the scenes Bob McKenzie was the final edition I believe. And that was the one that really got people going. Once it was re tweeted into hockey twitter, and then like Bob Mackenzie comes out of fucking. It really really and like Bob Mackenzie really lowered himself to help join. People don't know this Mackenzie. He's wanted them boys, you know. Oh, he is, he is, but he absolutely does not need to do brunch copper for sure, but he's. He's cool enough of a guy to actually sure I was chatting with the the the the. How was afterwards and they were like? Man Most random cameo ever and I was like no. You guys were not the most random one. I was going through a I was going through. Justice mentions when she tweeted it and I was so like heart warmed by how many people responded with like. Is that hound my yes. So. How big in the streets good I'm so proud a We! We should tweet from the brunch account like sneak peek at what had been working in on the studio and it's just that video. Of them singing thunder. It's wouldn't be inaccurate. I'll tell you what man it's. Also say what where the fuck was. Zach Zach too cool for. So we. We've met Zach once.

"Means nothing but look it up on google right so thoughts on this one. I've had sharma's daughter the before and i can't remember from who i'm really. I'm really liking it. <hes> i think <hes>. I think that there's that we have a slightly lightly older can because i think i am picking up a little bit oxidation on the front end. But how do how do you define that. I'd say i'd say in this case is is just like a little bit of paper little slightly papery. I just think touching a nose and a little bit on the front end. The finish is actually way better than i would expect from a slightly older beer. I would love love to have this beer fresh because the finish is really working for me so i'd really like to see how the start of it is. I don't know if anyone else agrees. It looks judging by the bottom of the canned looks like it's best served in the halo. A barrel of the farmer's daughter ordered aaron halon often is roy. I do really really liked finish. I i. I would this one that i would definitely like to try again so these spends i purchased <hes>. Let's see about a month ago and it was in the fbi. Which is the ontario liquor store that you think is government run. It looks like it when you won't feel to it you walk into that has a minimum of display eight and then they have one of these <hes> belts or you know these roller things that comes from the back so when you already beer you say i wanna case this. It's something somebody in the back runs and gets it and throws it down this this runway and then you pay for it. They also have in there. A fine thing called hold mix and match. Now we know that binny's has that right. <hes> pick six six six yes they do they mix and match l. eight bruce l. I'm holding up <hes>. You'll get your brooms here early and i did some research on the base auto okay. Is this government run. No it's no it's actually a conglomerate of some of the biggest brewers out there in canada i think most of them was one of them and as i think it's a new point new five percent interest from at least ten to twenty local toronto ontario area brewers so they put up a front that says we're government owned but they have a contract the government and the government actually cancel that contract ten years ahead of its expiration because they felt that it was a bit of a monopoly so having to renegotiate that and allow more liquor stores to open up but if you go out there the best is the place to go through your bill. I'd say i picked up these cans and it was kind of interesting. Just kind of whip eight of them and i'd never heard of us trying to get a lot of different styles. So what was the name of that storage room via store back. We're not gonna ding then they got monopoly binny's winnie's. Oh no sorry you can dig walked right in yeah right anyway. Okay so thoughts on the farmer's daughter before we move long. I can kind of see what you're saying about it. Maybe being a little bit of an older. Can there is a little bit. Almost you know cardboard unsubtle flavor going onto it. I do pick up a little bit of crudeness that probably from the east of the use of gas. Which is something you know you've said. I think this would probably awesome crash <hes> even so. I definitely drink a can of it. I think it's i think it's held up really well for the style giving the age. I guess we can't win anymore. Nothing has jumped out at me so far but we're only two in. Let's go to number three. We've got a good day. Welcome to the great white north canadian corner. I'm bob mackenzie smoother doug. How's it going in. Today's topic wasn't <hes> how come right right west off beer. Okay this canadian beer and like here's a regular top and open it right but a miracle ones. We don't have any right. He just list off the american beers like that. Why is our top okay. Go okay. The reason why is that the canadian beers.

"The law, San that's his excellent work, by the way, I wanted to ask you, why, why don't you have Twitter lot of beefs with people when you're when you're Chirpin different players, or pumping differ? You know, I'll tell you why. It's from. A business perspective and network asked you to be on Twitter. They wanna be able to guide what you say and what you do on Twitter. You can't hawk products. You can't go to deep into your personal beliefs. But we want you to be on Twitter. We want to attract people to come and watch you and build your own brand. Well, I'm not one of those guys that needs to build my own brand. I like what I do I'm passionate about my job. If you watch me, I think I'm pretty good at. But I do and I'm not one of those guys needs to be outwardly out there. But everything, but getting back to the it being a business perspective. If it was something that was incentivized in a contract. You probably see a change. But let's say I get on Twitter and I get three thousand followers and then near the draft that grows and I'm not five thousand dollars and it gets the ten because my work seems to be okay. And people like some of the stuff that I'm saying, doing, if you incentivize that, and you wanna help me build my brand, and you allow me to get out there little bit. And when I go to a nice restaurant, I can talk about this restaurant 'cause they like to eat just look at my boiler. I like drink. Just looking my boiler. But you're, you're kinda guided you're, you're limited as to what you can do how you can do it while you can do it, and it's not incentivize. So how can someone have control about what you're saying what you're doing and not pay for it? I guess that's probably the basic grimace. You must you must be lurker than though, right? No, honestly, I don't have a burner account. I don't now all go on. "Or you very confident, do you think that you're, you're interview or whatever the, the trial was, I wasn't that confident that I would get the job? I was just confident enough to sit there and say at that point, I I've done enough of this. I'm like thirty two thirty three. Not a scholar. I'm not gonna pretend to be one on just going to go in there. And just, you know, let her rip, and if they like me, like me, if they don't they don't the how did you get into the source game was that, just something, you just kind of came naturally, just know people just call them luminosity? I want to be an insider never wanted to be. I think if you want. Listen. We all get information. We all got bodies, where we got buddies, that one's a scou- even RA's got a guy. Everybody's got a guy. Right. Everybody's got a guy, but the problem at sports early is that we, we lacked respect. We're, we're the station that was supposed to last five years TSN had it. All right. They were there were the hockey night was hockey night in Canada. But as far as cable sports, there was only TSN and everybody else. So they were laughing at us, they like they won't last five minutes. So, you know, the, the king of the information was Bob MacKenzie. Still is today. He's our godfather of inside information. He was the news breaker, and they're like, and then here's this brand new station, and they're coming up to me going have you heard anything like this? They're like, yeah, you got to be great for us. So then I started asking around I got all this information, and it was so goofy back then there was no Twitter. There was no social media. We'd have to run it down. This internet kinda just kind of started back then there was CPI Canadian Press, right? American press. Right. I know we had a wife and a few children leaves it just it's just heartbreaking heartbreaking story to be that young. And just have have Lysol young years old. I mean, I'm I'm going to be fought he said, it's at heart failure. Yeah. Oh my God. Jesus you just gotta hope that there was no pain, and it was quick form. But I woke up I was like holy shit. But listen, there's sometimes I disagree with certain media members. And how they specifically ones that continually try to shun the game like something's way more violent than it actually was. And that there's a real problem with the game that needs to be changed specifically when they haven't even laced them up, which drives me up the goddamn wall. But nonetheless, you know, we're all in this for the reason of we want to give our opinion and entertain and try to bring people's knowledge about the game to to a different level. And he got. A reaction from people. You know? I mean that the matter what that shows you good at what you do. If this many people would get upset at what he wrote or agree with what he wrote it showed. He had passionately loved the game. And we were thinking of his family because that was a really shitty thing to lose someone in the hockey family small, and no matter what part you you play a role in a lot of people that are involved were really sad to hear about that passing. And we're thinking of be a lot of fans wrote to me said he kind of wrote from the fan perspective, which is what we do. A Boston kind of tells it like sees it. He's not behold until editors he kinda just wrote from the coffin, and it was a fan favourite, and it just it's just an awful tragedy. We're Poudel hockey media community to show we wanted to ignore it and mentioned and again, extend deepest condolences and sympathies to his family friends in his at the athletic. So hopefully, everybody's doing okay. Subside Nozoe boys we getting ready to fire fired up at hurricanes to edit. This thing get it out. And we'll see everyone. Hurricanes at the garden, and hopefully for our sake the Bruins can make this thing series. But either way business getting after it, he's promised us. This has got check time for the Bruins. They need to pull this out. If they don't win this game. I think the series is kaput Sigua and see the rub is in his pocket. He's not gonna use from his so. I just hi my foreskin. But. In one one quick last thing, and I get into on this fucking online with this guy right now. So do you. So so Klingberg had a pretty funny celebration where he was fist pumping, and he was making this motion with his arm used to make and Grenell posted where your what do you grading the Selley, and I wrote to in the pink and one of the stink gets a seven point seven point eight celebration score and underneath it. I wrote ca- somebody else mentioned it or someone else already put it the underhand being blaster. Listen, it's. Yeah. Like aggressive. So one guy came at me online saying all like what are women going to think of this? When they read it, and I'm like fuck you like there's women who liked it and laughed and dot it was funny. Like, what what you're going to have the safe for what women can think humorous and not like, what type of level of narcissism is that I have an aggressive sense of humor..

"The experience in the past. And one of those guys is the Steelers offensive line coach, Mike Mancha who is guy who coached the titans from twenty eleven to thirteen and he apparently him in. The Denver Broncos seemed avid thing going, and I didn't realize how much of it thing until I just read this blurred from Bob McGinn. Bob MacKenzie guy was covered the Packers for a long time. And he was talking about the Matt leflore higher out there in Green Bay. So it was originally report the Packers had interviewed mon- check. But Bob McGinn says the Packers apparently never interviewed Mike mon-. Check. He interview with the Broncos Friday. And according to one source has been staying at the home of Denver GM. John Elway since then the assumption is that month check, fifty eight will be the Broncos next coach. So you're telling me Mike, just in John Elway's house like that's just the two grown men like for several days like any towels. Mike good what he eating like this. That's bizarre to me. John Elway's houses as big as Phil Simms. This house. Castle. It's probably got a motor rounded a big wall. Trees you need conditioner. It's so strange. It's all taken care of don't worry about it, by the way. Mike Montek has grandkids out there. Okay. Well, why isn't he around? Then why did you stay in an Elway out? Look. House hang out with them. But then I'd be so freaked out that I do something wrong in that spot. I mean, he could be the head coach of the Denver Broncos. You know, like, the the you use the bathroom does it, stinky, courtesy flushing? I mean, I would be a nervous wreck on sure that John Elway has a house that probably has twelve bedrooms and twenty two bathrooms. So there's probably plenty of places to go to be private, and you don't have to worry about the after math of that. Or does he get a key for the week or right? Does he have to ring the doorbell? I've got many has a guest house. Does he get a car? Does. He John Elway loan MacArthur. The week he'll have all those car dealerships. Yeah. I mean think about this. So when we were going through the whole process here, if you said, you have to stay in my house for a couple of days for me to get the I would be a nervous wreck. I don't know what to do. These are these are football people one's a former quarterback one's a former linemen does so much in communist, not even funny it boomer these worry about these Cheerios off limits or can I where the balls that? Yeah. You mind if I. For the bulls. Do you keep the tinsels do put the stuff in the dishwasher or not? Clogged toilet by accident or something like oh boy. It's sorta like I mean, you gotta believe always gotta staffer, right? I mean, a staff at his house how full stands a hall of Famer two Super Bowl winners. I had all the way car dealerships sold all that. I guarantee you wanna tell me like one guy. Okay. Or somebody in the house. Steph is definitely still doesn't have a family too. Now, that's why I needs to staff run into the kids and stuff and they're like oh sorry. Yeah. And Mike's gonna stay with us for a couple of days. I mean, I don't know. I just seems bizarre to me you have ever be a Mike and his wife staying with them. That's even worse. Then do we have sex? Do we not have sex out all the houses, even miss? I'm telling you. You're telling me, that's not a strange thing. They have four children. Are they still in the house? They're older. Now. I think he's got grandkids. When mom checker Elway. This is Elway. I'm talking about those kids are all there. They're all my age. So all the kids are like cities age they might be back in the house, though. You know, who the hell is this dad? Why do you have to check in a house? Now, I'm sure they're all doing their thing. Believe me. I don't know. Why you get also got up and stuff like is boxers. I don't know. It's really strange. Elway is remarried to a former Oakland Raiders cheerleader. Okay. Hopman? Check doesn't look at her. Appropriately. And ruined his shot me, I wouldn't want. If if if. Stupid snow. No. Because these are the talk yourself into just it's weird, man. I'm telling you any forget about football. Just we like any job thing. It's strange to stay at your potential boss's house for multiple days. The home is a sacred thing. You wanna tell me that he goes to the hotel go to the facility and spend a bunch of days, they go their separate ways back at the house and dinner and TV. And like, no have you told me that somebody who was staying at Mike Brown's house, the owner of the Bengals that would shock me. Yeah. That would really shocked me then you start his players. These are these are guys that played at the same time. They played in pro bowls together, they have a relationship. They've known each other for a long time. You wanna watch bird box tonight. John elway. If you need Netflix just hit this hit this remote. They give me that remote. You have turned. This went on. Rush, right. No, no, no. I don't think it's a whatever he walk run in a robe comfortably. Either one of them like so what is your approach is your approach? I'm gonna make myself as comfortable as possible because that's what I want to show John or is your approach like I better be totally buttoned up at all times house. Sure they've had cocktails together over in Hawaii at the Pro Bowl. I can guarantee you they've been they've been in the business of football. Well after their careers were oversaw. I'm sure that they've running to each other many times at owners meetings coaches meetings, whatever so they've known each other for probably twenty five years. Why is that so weird to you guys? It's like two grown men in interviewing for a job is something I've never heard of. It'd be like if our you had interview, Sean marash right off enough time out time out. Let's say you ran your you went back to Tampa. And you went down there, and you were hired as a PD pushing did what you did. And you wanted to hire some people that you knew to come work for you. And you hired morale. Rash? Or you want to hire more. Actually, brought them down and say, hey, look, just stay at my house for a couple of days. It used to the air. That would never happen. That's probably a bad. That's probably it takes Charrier me. Get a hotel. We'll spend all day together. We gotta go our separate ways. When it's nighttime. I will say that you are a bad example of that. I understand that. So I take that back. So it wouldn't be you. Maybe we'll be you though GIO. I could see you being not not not not a friend. Brian Jones an old from you already worked with Bryan. So bright out to be somebody that you. Maybe that you didn't work with. But you do have a high respect for and a high regard for because maybe you ran into a medic convention or something and used to hang out and talk about things and all that other stuff. Sudden you're in a position to hire somebody, and you want to hire somebody that you're familiar with that may have the same work ethic that you do I still think I still think it's weird to be in the house because then you're not gonna eat it. This is this is a sacred area. Man. Look, John Elway doesn't live in levittown. All right. John. Elway listening very big grandiose. I'm sure gated community. Right. Did fine. If it's so big in so spacious and then ever going to see one another what's the point avenue and a house. Look, they had they had a furnished house with restoration hardware. Nice stuff. They don't have a lot of guests that here's a guests. Come in. You put them in the, you know, the king's sweet. Yeah, he's got a probably a free, standing bathtub. We could soak in a day. Right. Exactly. Which is another decision. You gotta do. I use this day. Do not use the day. My weird to use the day. No, I I when I was a kid. I went to parliament some guy had a bad day and air, and I thought it was the sink. Very well. It does look like a sink. I was a kid. Sink. I thought it was a sink. I was like what does this thing or water? We came out of the bathroom, and it was a big funny. Funny moment right that hitch interface. No, luckily would be funny in the face. And that would have been like a, where's the cameras is perfect? But yeah, I know, but days one of those things I feel like you've really made it if you got one of them, you don't sit on those though, right? You kind of hover. Yeah. I've never. Get you that TOTO. Toilet bowl that has the day with it. But they sounds like a great thing. But it's just my ass. If you have a urinal and day in your bathroom you've made. Oh, yeah. Without a doubt. I could see I could see. Elway having a bad day in a urinal Mike much extra just in. They're using the hell out of staying there. Mike contracts getting packages delivered. They're all sorts of stuff. I mean, I don't think you guys realize, you know, John order pizza. That the level of wealth that John Elway is probably acquired over his life. Mary had all those car dealerships and everything I think he sold all that stuff. Heisman house is a house. They'll man, you're you're where you reside, regardless of how wealthy you are. I mean, that's your home base. That's your stay cred. Airshow did when you were at Hofstra. Did you stay on campus all your commuter? So you've never really had a roommate or and I was before I went to Hofstra. Remember? So close to that roommate not close here from every now and then. Yeah. But not like a Frank Reich is coming to. Visit. He stayed on. My house is my roommate, but you're not interviewing for it's totally different. But these guys have a relationship and they've had a long standing relationship that is not different their friends. They've known each other for a long time. This is a big higher for Elway. It's a big moment for months check. I mean, it's just awkward. I'm sorry. You're not gonna give me to think this is normal thing. It's nuts. Very awkward. I wish we knew this before GIO officially became co host because that would have been great if required. Dow's for a couple of days, we could have Izzo follow you guys around. All that would have been funny because remember how nervous he was when he first got in here that first week. I how do you know how nervous? Now, you're you're nervous. You've said I've read in a call these articles that you give I didn't say it all of us. Yeah. You said you are like you're unsure I never said that either. I mean, it was definitely a I'll say this. If you wanna use the word nerve is a nerve wracking top. Oh. Racking and nervous nets a little different. I think like, I don't know. I I'm always comfortable doing a radio show. But also, you know, all that other stuff. And then there's you on top of it. Make it bad. I mean. I never been in a situation where I felt like I had to please somebody before, you know. That was that was one of those things. How can I make this man happy? I mean, honestly, that's the way I fell house. I gotta I gotta. It was just strange the other spots. I was totally different than I walked out of here that first they announced that don't worry about it. He's just nervous. That's what he said. Al did not say Vicki said the same thing. He just nervous. He's funny. He's just nerves. That's what everybody said housing because you told me Al was totally against my whole thing from the beginning. So I don't even want to ensure nerve he might have said that. No. But prior to that. But prior. Shaped your nervous. And that's probably why hours against you. Right. After the first five, oh, this is never gonna work never gonna work. Yes. So you know, how? Well, I know it doesn't sound like. Today at thousand a year ago. It did. Well, yeah. I don't know if Al had really any idea, you didn't really know who I you had no clue type of guy. I was what I was doing. You really didn't have any didn't know what was going on down that hallway. Right. He didn't care did want to get involved with it. But not only me on the year period. I knew nothing. So that makes me feel better about him being that against me. 'cause he didn't know anything about me. I guess the good thing is though is that you did have a lot of very very ardent supporters. Sure that you don't even know about. Okay. I mean, I probably have an idea because so many people came up to me after I don't wear it. He's nervous. So you you said it was nerve wracking. They said you were nervous. It was also. Yeah. I mean, I want to rehash the whole thing was also really terrible day to try to be funny. You remember the day? It was it was it was when the entire league took a knee after President Trump called them. Whatever. What did he what was the term you call them? You son of a bitch, which is. Which is. And the entirely it. So the whole show is about that. I mean that wasn't a day where it was like, you know, it wasn't gonna make a balloon animal for you. You know, what's going to happen? Think you've ever met warming juggling?.

"When everyone went by me, and all they covered up everything except for the wrench, and I named every single guy on you by wrench to they covered up their feet and everything else. I was like. Roach, e diamond offer here just naming boom, boom, boom. You're like, oh, you try to try to throw me off at the shave job. Do you have a covered wagon? That's a Canadian biz you grew your flows e to try to me. No, it's bad. It's the locker room talk the locker room talk transplant. Try throw you off just to ruin your own life. Who had the who's got the biggest wrench among you guys. You play it and who historically like the legend. Who's got the biggest eighty paler Pyatt a weapon will hey on three. I know who you're going to say, but being biz. Two three Hanky. With the ranch long. God these handsome guys get it. All man. Now, what wasn't Jim MacKenzie like that fight of long ago? It wasn't. He wasn't. He supposedly they'll like the biggest swan. Everyone's on the podcast. Apparently. I don't wanna told me about this. He has a fucking baby babies arm, holding another babies arm. He said, it was an ambulance to show all the way. Oh. Rolex around the rest. Oh shit. I think we hit our caulk talk. Yeah. I was gonna say this is a hockey podcast. And there actually was a pretty significant trait since I Lau show Carolina sent. Noel, Hannifin and Elias lintel man rocket no Hannibal agree handed tat, which makes them even harder. I know that makes you know, you you stay hot as you are. But it brings in a different demographic chicks. Oh, tattoo guy. I'm gonna whack but but he's absolutely yoked. And he's a man rocket. And he's. Tat it up and he's fifth overall pick. We're gonna have to get the scouting report on his dick. Give it to you. What about is yet though? I still go going back. We'll take that take two. Again, no Hannifin Elias Lindholm to Calgary going back to Carolina his Dougie Hamilton treated yet again, Michael Furlan in defensive prospect, Adam FOX, replays, it going back to Carolina huge trade. Like, I said, this is the second time Dougie Hamilton's traded in his GM said we want guys who wanna be history. You're starting to wonder what kind of stink around him and a Hannifin, which we talk about the show all the time. Hold on you defensive prospects. As long as you can't don't let them go too early. What do you make the trade? I mean, I think no is unreal. You went fifth overall for a reason. And I think Calgary kinda kinda one that trade that prospect. Fox's is pretty sick. I think is a Long Island kid. He ran world juniors. He ran that USA power play. And and he's a he's a pretty he's a pretty big prospect. About this kid. That's easy easy. Bob mackenzie. All serious. Oh, he uses high school code. He's a stud in and I think he's going to end up in a big Carolina's to win that trade. He'll be a big part of. I mean, what does it feel like they gave up on Hannifin too early. And while they just didn't want to deal with his contract final. They wanted to. I don't think they wanted to pay him. He's gonna make some big bucks. I don't think they wanted to pay. Nobody we've talked about the new owner there doesn't wanna pay the scouts so phone bills. So he doesn't wanna pay a good defense in big big time money five six million a year. Is that a true story true story, apparently the guys like I don't need to pay the scout cellphone bills, and why scouts need to be scouting at the game. They can watch TV. So he's trying to change the game. That's going. It's that whole down with the cell phone bills because I'm a cheap Faulk. Leash. You like we we pay for my cell phone Bill. Bring you up every spin jackets. Bog us? So thing Dougie Hamilton though, like that's a good player that for some reason. I don't know I don't know him..

"They tweeted one goalie was thought and they deleted it at another tweet for different goalie just kind of weird shit. It going on. This is the typical chatty usually here before a guy gets canned. I mean, basically, you know, what you think he's gonna what I mean. How can you not get fight at this point stay? I mean, they they mentioned that there was a chance he was going to get fired, right? Right at the time of the of the GM switch and it didn't happen. I also think watching them this weekend. I mean, they played Edmonton. Which I sold everyone in that office. Who would listen to me that was a lock Edmund to beat him at home for one actually outshot him. But still then they go into Vancouver. The next night. You think you just lost an Edmonds? What are you going to do there? They were put thank in Vancouver disgusting display, and it's just that's that's it's time. I mean, you could just tell it's obviously something has to change the GM being fired hasn't changed anything. So the next thing is what happens is usually the coach. And the reports from the guys are like, do, you know, these guys are usually pretty these guys are on top of it. Yeah. Crossing broad name a pretty good reputation. They have some good choices. They've broken some stories in the past. I don't I don't think they're full of shit here. I know we're getting kind of contradictory and football cube. These guys saying he's the target cues. People queue a saying he hasn't been reached out. But I think a lot of. This stuff is some subterfuge going on basically agents are gonna lie. You know, people are going to lie when they know stuff because they wanna probably wait till tollgates fire before they they confirm anything. So I think it's true. I think it's a valid report. I think he's probably gonna get canned. And again, like, you know, he probably should've went when they can't Hextall. I actually got a tweet from one of the kids from the office whose bodies with cues kids, and he talked to him, and he sent me a text as soon as that that that main one came out for that account that you discussed RA, and he goes false. He said I talked to cues kid. He said he says all man is not talked to Philadelphia. That's not true. And he goes if you want to tweet it you can break the news to like go against it. And I'm like, yo what's the I'm not like news guy. Guy. I'm not news guy. I'm not Adra gone pretty much nothing guy. So don't look at me to be breaking news RA, you tend to do it. Sometimes the only time I broke something was when I got a text from someone saying that. Who who'd signed them at the defensemen garrison Jason garrison, and that was a layup. And I mean, I mean, I don't think that was like that wasn't a wreck Nash territory now say that has the time pass or you still kind of on the bubble of of whether you could get that one. Right. All right. 'cause you tweeted out that Rick Nash was going to retire and actually was sending it as papers. Did you not know? I I didn't say he was sending he was sending them. And then he eventually he was going to send them in. Yeah. I mean, really nothing's changed. I haven't been given any further info. The only thing I was told was. Yeah, he's he's not playing again. He's gonna retire. I don't know what the time. Limit is. He's got all the time in the world. He's unrestricted. He's not on the contract. So yeah. Nothing changed on that busy Skating eating. training. What's the word here? I'm not too sure on that to be honest with you. But I mean, there's been no indication that any teams a looking to sign what trying to sign him. Just you know, I don't know. Maybe just waiting to get it all out of his system, mentally. I mean, you know, probably takes awhile to probably get to that decision. When you soared short. If you want the scoops follow Bob MacKenzie fault there and Drager don't fall in that. If you want a couple kill stories. Let me know then I'll tell you about biz is like sucking my thumb on the couch at woman to do at this news..

"Per Jonas, Segel's piece in the athlete. I just wanna give the guy proper credit UN into called Kyle do a half hour before the deadline said do you wanna make a deal at four fifty two? The lease had a signed copy the deal that they didn't have business that could've ran into a real real issue. So. Yeah. So he literally called it. It's kind of like why, you know, why couldn't this have happened, you know, three or four months ago, and I got some info from uncle Bob Bob MacKenzie here, I use some of his tweets, basically, it's a six year forty five million dollar deal the actual dollars because of the probation because he started late is forty one point seven seven million is what he's going to get six years forty five mil the cap, it is going to be a big cap hit this year because of the way way it structured, and then it's it's going to be ten point two million this year, and then six point nine six nine million for the final five years. So I mean, it doesn't seem like a number. That's they couldn't come to an agreement a few months ago. So which you take on it with I said, the same thing I saw the deal Assad got done, and you started seeing a lot of well, respected hockey names. Journalists say I think something's getting done today. So I wasn't that surprised. But I was surprised in the sense of you saying what the hell you guys couldn't do. This was the contract. This was this is what we waited for everyone. The entire time was pretty much say around forty one to forty five million over six seven years. I mean, I I'm shocked at took. This makes me think the kid just wanted to show for half the year. Let me just let me just relax over here. I'll just have a little joyride skate in Austria, wherever the hell, you skating. But forty five percent of the entire contract. I think's paid to him in the first year whether signing signing bonuses or the the salary from the first year. So good job by the Leafs. I feel like it's a win win. I mean, which is kind of silly considering they both stood their ground for so long. But they both got Leafs got their guy at a reasonable number. And now the Leafs who are wagging. They've lost. They've won four in a row, and they look incredible. Austin Matthews Jesus Christ. He hasn't slowed down since the injury, but they'll Neil lender. So the Leafs are looking for real. Yeah. Forty two point five percent of that deal is going to get paid off of that Devin months. I mean, this is kind of a kind of a state tax situation. Where all of a sudden you fuckers when I said on it. Hale alarm, I should get a biz state. We'll get the silly season horn from bud. Budweiser Canada going every time I mentioned that. But no, serious note is these rich teams have the ability to pay these guys a lot of money up front where it gives them more flexibility down the road and for those. I guess how do I explain this for people who are wondering what the fuck? I'm talking about is if there's a market that doesn't have a lot of money. They're going to attach flow cash full like three years into this deal. Once the let's say the least pay off the signing Mona's than a month into the season. They can get the sky and pay them less than what is cap would actually be a towards his new team. But. James vernal had a good point. He said the lease sky should do that with every contract going forward anything to give them greater flexibility in the future. And it's just an advantage for a team that has a lot of money on that note. I think that William Neil Lander has fucking cute set of balls on them because couple tweet saying that he had some big time big time. I mean, man, he fucked. He he essentially got what he wanted because he waited all the way to the fuck and final minutes and. I was never getting mad at at either party here. I know people who are tach to lease nation..

"That night to see audience members throwing up they probably ticket took it personally if i know most performers yes in fact i believe somebody threw up on dave thomas's shoes and he still came back for more i still reminds me of that let's listen to another clip from the show okay good date welcome to the great white north go okay good day while the great white north on bob mackenzie this my brother doug how's it going oh did you hear about what well you can tell okay here about the guy who like was over the beer and like went drink and then to the stupid thing looking in the bottle and well there's real real mouse i guess it was dead right drown and drunk to die head a smile on its face it died food drunk driving in the bond but you know what the guy got tell him a whole case of beer right so our topic today is how to stuff amounts into a beer bottle without without breaking it right so that they will look at it and give you a case and not thinking you hosting by by deliberately stuffing one any it's like ship building in a bottle okay you mentioned dave thomas that was dave thomas and rick moranis playing the infamous bob and doug mckenzie on setv i recently learned to to my surprise that those two characters came about as kind of a time crunched response to a demand for more ken kahn the network.
