"Listeners have bought good memories, which is very, very bad news for me. The guy says, here's my guess for mama, did she sprain or pull something in an attempt on a new just sexual gymnastic move with fanny sitka, or does she just set her hair on fire again while taking a romantic bath? Well, that story is many, many years old. Well, that happened. Part of your lore. Should have just briefly retailed. Yes, please do. This was back in the days before Japanese straightening and blowouts were very expensive, and I had a big date, and so we decided to take a romantic bath, so I put a purple back cap on lick candles, and then I leaned back in a seductive pose, and I let my hair on fire. Can you have a seductive pose with a bathroom with a cap? No. It was the lights were dimmed. Were there daisies on it? I had to. No, no. Were the lights completely out? Yeah. But she put it out. So that's how I knew it was love. We were together for many years. With this smell of burnt hair lingering. Never forget the look of alarm on her face. Aaron rubber. Rubber was the smell of our love. Her rubber is my new rock band. Listen, I had to do something to distract from bob's house, 'cause refrigerator sex stern. We can do any funky men why. Bob festival joins us. Now we interrupted programs to bring him a special broadcast. You're cute. I love you about sesame. Just follow the money. Oh, hi, bob. Hi, now if you had caught your hair on fire while doing that to your girlfriend. Now that's a convergence of events. That would be amazing. My greatest hits. You win all the prizes. You would. I'd be like me doing my own lighter. Thank you, freebird. You would be a penthouse letter. Yes. Absolutely. For those of you that don't recall, could I have some nostalgia music? I just bob was once talking about trying to find, you know, different things on Amazon

"So nice. Yeah, you know what? I do. I believe the C word and I believe the T word. And that just gives you an idea of how filthy Jody and David can get on my Thursday. Spicy Jodie is spicy, but bob is a bigger person. Yeah. For sure. He will not have it. Bob says will not have the C word on what's the word. Oh. You said you know the T word? Well, the T word is the synonym for the C word. We can put it that way. It's a very popular Darth Vader in part of hearing Darth Vader yells. What? He wants W yes, got it. Got it. Exactly. Thank you. I personally enjoy that word. I think it's funny. Yes, go ahead. Yeah, yeah. I think there are a lot of people out there who are concerned about Joe Biden's age as he embarks on his reelection campaign. And I just got to remind those people that it was Joe Biden two months ago who completely outflanked the entire Republican Congress the entire Republican caucus on live national television and prime time regarding social security. That's never been done before. So if anyone talking about, well, he's old and he's got cognitive issues or anything like that. That is absolute BS. Why should speech yesterday? Where's the decrepit old guy? He was. Every time I see him, he's, you know, seems exactly. I mean, a couple of things here. First of all, running with the backdrop of The White House is always a positive thing. Come at present. There's no other Democrat better position to win The White House in 2024 than the guy who's actually living in The White House right now. Right. There's that. I'm Andrew shepherd and I am president. Yeah, yeah. Well, I mean, we've had presidents who are whatever it is. 30 years younger than Joe Biden, who didn't outflank the Republican caucus on live national television and prime time, which Joe Biden has indicating that Joe Biden knows how to do this job. He knows how to run circles around the Republicans on the hill. And by the way, that's what we need. We need someone who can continuously own these people, continuously pants the Republicans on the hill and Joe Biden has shown that he can do that. And it was just two months ago. Yeah. It's not like it was 5 years ago. Yeah, I didn't mean to American president over you. Some people speak jive. I speak American president. That's famous line. Okay. By the way, somebody said amazingly, they did not wait until the end of the bob's house could show to announce suckers. Firing and you said the universe is on my side this week Us too. I was not on vacation. It happened while Alison gill was here in hour three. It was very exciting. Yeah, technically, I tricked the universe because I actually was doing a podcast right before that news dropped. It just wasn't my podcast. So the universe was like, look, that's doing a podcast. And we're going to drop some big news right after it. And it turns out to you universe. It wasn't my show. It was another show. It was a show called Friends from work with Rick shoe and freak base. And we were talking about comic book movies. So yes. I can't wait to listen. Because you said you tweeted, here's my eulogy for Tucker Carlson by eulogy. I mean, relentless trolling, which I can't wait to listen to. Your show. So yeah, your initial thoughts when you heard this. I was so sad. It's such a shame. Yeah, I called for sending Tucker Carlson pictures of luggage and black roses. I think that might be a problem. Since he's got a move out of his office, why not help him out by sending him some luggage? Yeah, it couldn't happen to a better person, right? Yeah. I mean, the guys proven duplicitous. He says one thing off the air says another thing on the air. And that, I think, indicates the centerpiece other than the bigotry and white supremacy. One of the centerpieces of Tucker Carlson's thing is he's an empty vessel into which all varieties of disinformation and awfulness can be pumped by a writer's room or newsroom. So I think with Tucker Carlson all along, he's just been this mouthpiece for the worst nonsense and disinformation that we've heard, whether it's anti maxing, anti masking, anti vax, whether it's white supremacy, replacement theory, just flagrant racism. It has no core values. Tucker will say whatever you ask him to say. He's like Ron burgundy. Whatever shows up on the teleprompter, he's going to say those words. That's him. Yourself, San Diego. That was his sign off would have been. Had he been given the last show. I'm surprised that never happened with Tucker, because someone never no one ever pranked him with a teleprompter, and they should have. He was still there. And also just Russian talking boys. You said I bet Glenn Gruden wall's agent is on the phone with Fox News lobbying for Tucker's time slot. I mean, yeah. Yeah. And that's the other thing they can replace him very easily. They could stick Brian kilmeade in there. And give him the same things that Tucker Carlson would have said, write the same script. In fact, whatever they had prepped for Monday night. Yeah. They can just reuse that whenever they get the next person in. Because the next person who comes in is going to be another soulless drone who can be filled with all of this Fox News nonsense. This agenda driven far right maga ridiculousness. I don't think Tucker Carlson wasn't as bad as Bill O'Reilly. A lot of people are saying that whoever's replacing Tucker is going to be worse than Tucker. Right. But I think Tucker wasn't nearly as awful as Bill O'Reilly was. I mean, Bill O'Reilly was a terrible, terrible person. And he said terrible things in that time slot. And it's kind of a toss up. That is Tucker is not nearly that bad. Yeah, will you actually speculate on Twitter, wow, I wonder if this fire room was part of the settlement that dominion settlement? Yeah, yeah. It's possible

"That. It's based thing. That's it, right? Yeah. There's a documentary on Netflix about Pornhub. It looks pretty good. I haven't watched it yet. Yeah, they're kind of unethical I've heard, maybe I shouldn't be making these jokes, but is this an accurate statement? The only pornographic any sort of material that you've ever seen was that my bachelor party at bob's house? No, I can remember in college. I remember in college walking in one night walking into the main part of the you'd walk in the main door that was security and everything. Of Columbia University. Yes, I remember walking in some guys at rented a projector. And looking up and going, what on earth it was some black and white cheesy 50s poor that these guys were showing. Yikes. Why aren't you I don't get it? What would you think about? What would you do, Josh, if you were watching something and one of your friends came in and screamed, what on earth is that? Well, no, this was kind of campy. It was this old. It wasn't. I mean, it was erotic, but it whenever we'd go to a fraternity party, there would be porn just playing. Weird. Yeah, I know. I know, but it's true. Sure, sure, baby. Yeah. I guarantee that's not going on. So you were just a mental guy? When you would have at yourself? I'm not a big porno guy. I have to I'll have to look into it. So you just think? What was the look at magic? You have to subscribe to. What was that? Are you currently on any? No, I don't have any. Oh, you mean descriptions? Only fans? No, Josh had one. I forgot what it was called. Browsers. Oh, evil angel, I subscribe to for year. Because they had a special, it was $69 for a year. Of course. Of course. How did that show up on your credit card? CC Bill? Okay, so it's not something that appears to be pornographic. Plus, I'm the only one looking at my statements anyway. No, but I mean, I think there are probably guys out there that are excited to see it. This is interesting about Tom because it's not like you, you would be embarrassed by your significant other or something. If anybody saw that Tom was partaking, he would be embarrassed. I had a like a stranger at the time. There's no show. I have a story that I can tell. Let's see, do we have time? Yeah. No. No. What are you talking about? I have a story on this topic. It is very funny. That involves this exact issue. Okay. When we return. More sports coming up. And we've got radioactivity in the news. Radioactive. We have sperm counts in the news and yet another Gwyneth Paltrow triumph of weirdness involving alleged healthy behavior and your rectum. This is the bob and Tom show.

Court of Appeals ruling rejecting former president Trump's claim of executive privilege with regard to White House documents held at the national archives And that's basically resting on the fact that President Biden who currently is the chief executive and has the right to invoke the privilege has decided not to assert executive privilege over these records and communications and testimony sought from former Trump administration officials in connection with the select committees probe So that question has been answered to some extent but at the same time there are some issues related to executive privilege which remain unresolved And mister Meadows lawyer has argued that Meadows is invoking the executive privilege argument in good faith and in order to convict somebody of a criminal charge They have to be acting in bad faith It's not Mark Meadows to determine whether or not that assertion of executive privilege is going to be upheld or not as long as he is arguing in good faith that executive privilege is being invoked by former president Trump That is his defense but he's refusing to appear to answer even basic questions that the committee says still involve a claim of executive privilege And the committee does point to a series of examples of areas of inquiry which they say even if executive privilege were to apply which they dispute it would certainly not come into play if Meadows were asked to talk about certain topics What does recent history tell us about this There was also a recent history where criminal contempt charges were referred over by the Department of Justice and the Department of Justice declined to pursue them So it's certainly not automatic because this has been referred to the DoJ that there will be a criminal contempt charge brought against Mark Meadows For example in 2008 the department declined to bring charges against president George W. Bush's chief of staff Joshua Bolton and former White House counsel Harriet Myers who resisted subpoenas concerning the controversial force resignation of U.S. attorneys in 2012 the department likewise declined to pursue a criminal contempt prosecution against attorney general Eric holder who refused to turn over some documents that were related to the Fast & Furious scandal which was a gun running sting that had gone badly wrong So there is precedent here where the executive branch takes an expansive view of executive privilege Is this basically a show of forced by the committee that's not going to get them the information they're looking for Even if Mark Meadows is prosecuted and is convicted that in and of itself will not get Congress the information it's seeking to accomplish that Congress would have to sue Meadows and have a judge hold him in civil contempt rather than criminal then throw me in jail for refusing to cooperate with the committee and then the.

"Meadows responded quote I'm pushing it hard I agree President needs to tell people in the capital to go home This is hurting all of us He is destroying his legacy Laura Ingraham wrote Please get him on TV Destroying everything you have accomplished Brian kilmeade texted Joining me is former federal prosecutor Robert minz a partner mccarter and English Bob house significant is the vote to hold Meadows in criminal contempt It was a near party line vote Well it is a big deal because what we have here is a majority of the House to representatives albeit a democratically controlled House found that one of their own needs to be indicted for lack of cooperation What we have here is Mark Meadows who is a former congressman from North Carolina And who is by the way familiar with congressional oversight and who himself had argued for congressional oversight when he was a member of Congress during the Obama administration but is refusing to testify before the House in Connecticut with the January 6th committee So the fact that the House committee voted to hold him in contempt on the full House leader approved that it really speaks to how central they believe Meadows is to their understanding of what happened on January 6th Is the Justice Department likely to charge Meadows Well that's really the great question here What we do know is that this is a giant headache both politically and legally for attorney general Merrick Garland This is not a decision that he is likely happy to be faced with but ultimately this will rest at his feet It will be handled initially by the U.S. attorney's office in the District of Columbia but these decisions certainly something as significant as holding a former presidential chief of staff in contempt of Congress That's a decision that's going to be made by Merrick Garland himself So it's a difficult decision here because on the one hand if you charge him for failing to comply with the satina he does risk creating a precedent in which future House of Representatives which could be controlled by the Republicans as early as next year are in a situation where they could then seek to get testimony from current or former aides to the president And that's something that Congress has and the Department of Justice has historically been fairly deferential to They have allowed sitting and former chiefs of staff to invoke executive privilege with regard to the communications they had with the president On the other hand if he declines to pursue this case criminally he is in some sense hamstringing the committee's ability to investigate fully the attack on January 6th So it's a difficult decision for Merrick Garland Since the Department of Justice is prosecuting Steve Bannon does it follow that it should prosecute Meadows I think this is a very different analysis from the analysis that the Department of Justice engaged in when it made the decision to indict Steve Bannon for contempt of Congress For starters Bannon was not a White House official during the events surrounding the January 6th insurrection So that's a significant fact You have Mark Meadows who not only was employed by The White House but he was president Trump's chief of staff during the insurrection He was intimately involved in providing information to the president providing him advice and receiving communications from the president It puts him in the eye of the storm so to speak but it also puts some of the position to claim executive privilege in a much stronger way than Steve Bannon can The committee claims that Meadows waved executive privilege by turning over all the documents and by writing a book and are in his claims of privilege further weakened by the D.C. Court of Appeals ruling rejecting former president Trump's claim of executive privilege with regard to White House documents held at the national archives And that's basically resting on the fact that President Biden who currently is the chief executive and has the right to invoke the privilege has decided not to assert executive privilege over these records and communications and testimony thought from former Trump administration officials in connection with the select committees probe So that question has been answered to some extent but at the same time there are some issues related to executive privilege which remain unresolved And mister Meadows lawyer has argued that Meadows is invoking the executive privilege argument in good faith and in order to convict somebody of a criminal charge They have to be acting in bad faith It's not Mark Meadows to determine whether or not that assertion of executive privilege is going to be upheld or not as long as he is arguing in good faith that executive privilege is being invoked by former president Trump That is his defense but he's refusing to appear to answer even basic questions that the committee says still involve a claim of executive privilege And the committee does point to a series of examples of areas of inquiry which they say even if executive privilege were to apply which they dispute it would certainly not come into play if Meadows were asked to talk about certain topics What does recent history tell us about this There was also a recent history where criminal contempt charges were referred over by the Department of Justice and the Department of Justice declined to pursue them So it's certainly not automatic because this has been referred to the DoJ that there will be a criminal contempt charge brought against Mark Meadows For example in 2008 the department declined to bring charges against president George W. Bush's chief of staff Joshua Bolton and former White House counsel Harriet Myers who resisted subpoenas concerning the controversial forced resignation of U.S. attorneys in 2012 the department likewise declined to pursue a criminal contempt prosecution against attorney general Eric holder who refused to turn over some documents that were related to the Fast & Furious scandal which was a gun running sting that had gone badly wrong So there is precedent here where the executive branch takes an expansive view of executive privilege Is this basically a show of forced by the committee that's not going to get them the information they're looking for Even if Mark Meadows is prosecuted and is convicted that in and of itself will not get Congress the information it's seeking to accomplish that Congress would have to sue Meadows and have a judge Holden in civil contempt rather than criminal then throw them in jail for refusing to cooperate with the committee and then the.

"Know you don't know and so i was half kidding and half a little creeped out by the guy and sean was joking the whole time you know. He's making jokes. He's making jokes about you. Know what he'll do when the shoot is what he's trying to do and then and then you're actually seriously mad at the poor guy. Yes he got up and running out left lane. He was still plain stupid eight-year-old game that you guys are playing well. We had salads. And i didn't talk to him over salad. You didn't talk to them when you when you went on a train to go have salad and you wonder why darted off hoping you could go find some meat. Well he had a chef sell. There's meat in it feel better and he had it with extra meat. He tell them no tomatoes. Atta boy no tomatoes carrots extra meat. And that's what he did so basically he had meet on a better eleven place those with meat products. And that's basically what he had and instead a ranch. I'll have a gravy cheese under yet. Now take the cheese off and put more meat. So he had his mute salad. And you're saying they're in silence eating your salads because you're mad at a for some imaginary game that he wouldn't take a bullet for you right. I'm mad at him because he did not protect me. When i thought when the guy had a clear shot of may sitting in the in the seat. I wanted him to like. I don't know put his arm around me or do something to you know case. I was shot to protect me. But of course you didn't you didn't verbalize any of this. You just assumed that he would know this. Because that's one of his superpowers is reading your mind. But i said i i kept bringing it up and he kept making jokes so i think he thought we were playing our game like you know. There's a sniper on the train. Okay batman you know that kind of thing. But i i was only half joking and i and i would have let it go. How did not it off the train like he did. He couldn't wait to get away from me. Can you blame you imagine that. Do they know it stopping playing and started being real. No that because i said i can't believe you won't take a bullet from me. He's like the i i got up. I walked off the train. I said no usually help me off the train. You put your hand out. That was a bum. Move your bomb. And i was really mad. Are you still mad or do you understand that that you're insane. Say well no. I i let it go eventually like two hours ago. No yeah well. I had let it go so we enjoy the rest of the weekend and then earlier when the when chattan anthony and i were on the phone talking i mentioned something about it a little bit and sean lee got mad all over again because i think he thought we dropped it and didn't realize that i was still mad. He won't take a bullet for me. I would take a bullet for him. You would not i would. I would all day long but you wouldn't. I'm telling you. I would protect that boy from from anything i would. I would stand in front of. I would definitely take happens in the movies and real life. He's running off the train. No it right. It only happens in the movies and real life which it could have been there he was he went by foot away from you through and through a glass door right. We ran a but the idea that usually helps me up He didn't help me up. He was quick to save himself. You see And leave his wife behind. This kind of was third. Rail be is right now. Matt how do i handle. What do i do right. You guys need to stay for psycho like like an sm. Say for kind of thing exactly like banana or some some mortgage would never generally use but offensive either and that would signify that. I'm truly freaking out as opposed to joking basically says I'm not playing. Yeah that's good. Do you think her insurance are crazy to behave like this or do you think it's cute now. I mean it's cute but it's not. It's not cute if you don't have boundaries if you haven't established that i mean it sounds silly to say oh you're going to be you gotta have battery but it's not silly to say that because you guys are obviously debating this debate and you're sitting. That's pc of you fighting. Sean lee nearly had a meat salad on his lap. So mad i was that you're safe. Work me so that's perfect. Oh matt you're brilliant. Okay that's what i'll do from now on. So in sean. Lee and i are playing are crazy game. We're running from aliens If i truly am freaked out and do believe there is indeed an alien or sniper sniper alien am i guess i could say mid salad right. Thank you matt. That's great advice. We can serve meat salad at bob's house of meat so we can and we should. Let's call it shawn's meat salad in honor. Really get isaac the teenager. How are yeah pretty good. Glad to be back. Welcome back is the teenager was on vacation. And that's why we haven't spoken to him in a while but thank you very much for coming back and calling us. So what do you think the guy that was behind you. Could he hear you while. You're you talking to sean. Say and he's about to shoot. He's going to kill me. He was far enough away that if he had he had to be a good shot because he was now on the other end of the car but sitting facing the back of my head as opposed to before when he was sitting just to our so he would have had to shoot all the way across the car through fifty people to he you know. He had a clear shot. There was nobody behind me or the seat. There were like three or four seats between the guy us. You would still have to aim cooper. Have you realize that you're insane. I like you know the guy could have had a gun. How do i know we've. Us things happen. Isaac and you're the one of seventeen years of psychological training and you don't realize here and say i'm a practical. Okay there's one. Four cooper is psycho kerry. Hi terry i think i'm okay. What do you think. I'm a little scared of you right now. How's that entire situation. I i know what to say. I feel so sorry for some leave. It was it was like okay. Yeah we're normally paying the game but you have three my nine and no. We're not playing anymore and you have to pick up on. All my nonverbal cues to know. Exactly what i'm thinking and i was like oh god but here's my logic. Teri my logic is usually we pretend there's somebody up in a tree and we have to run. This was an actual person. This was a person that i was literally afraid of. And even though i was still kind of joking about it. I was sorta serious. It wasn't like you know. Oh my god. This train is going to run off the tracks. Quick off the train it was. You know there was actually a guy so in the two or three sentences you said to him..

"And it's always been repeated. It's just like a bunch of people each other up. And i'm like oh i think i know the reason why i watch movies like this is because life is simple. You have a good person that gets screwed over. And then he's going to accept and then the world is peaceful again but like it's very linear simple life and i'm like there's a lack of simplicity in my life like things aren't clear because i'm an artist and i'm doing work. That isn't a career path than don't know one may next job is gonna come and there's a lot of uncertainty and i'm just like oh i think it's a certainty that i am looking for and so it's like how can create frameworks around a more structured life that i can put inside of my own world right so i think they're just like lessons like that that you can take from every conversation where it really requires is just being conscious of it right like if you have a conversation like if we have a conversation right now and you hear something that you find interesting but you don't take the time to sit on it and process it and synthesize it to integrate into your life finishes gonna fade away. It's sort of like when you go to a conference and you you leave and you feel super inspired in three days later. You're like wait. What did i learn what everyone does. And so the podcast for me is a container in which to be accountable to my own learning for me first and foremost and then hopefully others can benefit from the same thing. Yeah i really like the habit of doing a reflection piece. I definitely don't reflect as much as i would like to on the episodes because i think i've allowed myself to get stuck in this. Rut of like producer. Use views rate. And i did that. In the first season. I had like forty episodes and every single week for nine months. And when i was reflecting on it last year as i i moved really fast and i just wonder like how much of that knowledge and wisdom have. I really held onto innocence. And so with the second season. I'm just trying to be a little bit more intentional. Give it a little bit more time to like process. And another way that i do process the information is like when we share it on social media where we not only sure like for example like snippets of the guests but we also go beyond the topic where we're talking about so for example here. We're talking about ocean plastics. So go back to the conversations that i had with you but also like built out an entire like post on what you shared but also just like the statistics and give people a greater awareness of what the issue is but like you. I'm stuck in this place where i'm trying to find a way to transfer over the awareness into some sort of action. So beyond the podcast. How can we create a community. Innocence bay i totally relate to. You're talking about and then as you were talking about the shows that you watch him like it makes sense. I watch rubbish shows till like singapore social. Gosh and right now. i'm watching. This australian show is called a single wives. I mean one thing is. I do like reality shows because it gives me insight into human behavior and culture but also because i think about a different type of world when i watch those rubbish shows because all day i am busy thinking about solutions to our environmental problems which are really by saddening. Sometimes for me and frustrating and invoke really intense emotions. That when i tune out i mean at the end of the day. I don't wanna think about that stuff that is sometimes either burying me down so yeah. I think it's interesting. Yeah see so you would have appreciated the episode to yeah. I'm gonna go check it out. Yeah exactly i think. That's what's so fun about these conversations and like when do you in normal life. Wendy you actually take the time to like research someone you discover someone you write an email and why you want to connect with them and then you've research them in order to prepare for the interview and then you have interview where you get to ask more questions. And then you reflect upon the interview in order to create your show notes and your graphic and everything else and then you can maybe that knowledge until the thing is we never do that. Normally and so the podcast is like an intrinsically. I think like a really great way to learn about other people and to be present and to be active. Now i don't know how much of this stuff actually like holds. But you're also creating a track record of all these conversations that you've had so in the event that you're like one day you feel stuck and i don't know you want to tackle an issue you can always go back into your archives and figure it out like i've had many conversations of people where i'll just be like. Oh you know who you should talk to this person that i had on my podcast and you just send them linked to this episode. And you say like. Would you like an introduction. Like look at the summary and see if that's the conversation that's helpful free so there's value in creating an archive of the people that you've met along the way and the conversations that you've had and i think maybe that's why saying everybody has a podcast. Today is because the idea of treating archive is really interesting. But it's a ton of work so that's the part that no one tells you about yes. Everyone's like it's a low hanging fruit blah blah blah. No it's nice indata lagging you'll need is a wake in computer. No it's not if you wanna do a good job exactly not if you want to do the job but having a podcast is giving you an idea of like other ways that i can archive my experiences whether it's just like recording conversations with family members on like a smaller recorder but it's giving me more of a push to document my life experiences in the sense and others as well pia. Is there anything else you wanted to add. Unlike podcast impact everywhere. No really i mean if you are looking to broaden your scope of how people are making a difference in the world in some way shape and form whether they're coming from an oil and gas background to an artist background to an indigenous background in how they're using their voices for good search for impact everywhere. If you just want to be a part of these conversations that are live tool. Free to find me on bob house. The impact every club at von wong and letaba conversations.

"Gutierrez goes to the mound tonight as the Reds begin a three game series against the Royals. And this is the Cincinnati Reds pregame show presented by your Cincinnati Northern Kentucky. Honda dealers. I'm Dave Arm booster. This is the Hall of Fame highlight with Reds historian Greg Roads mentioned AstroTurf to a baseball fan, and chances are you'll get a pretty negative response. Synthetic surface that was so popular from the 19 sixties through the 19 nineties, generally regarded today as a mistake, a very poor imitation of natural grass and a dangerous imitator as well given the amount of injuries attributed to it. But fans of Reds baseball should be thanking their lucky stars for Astro turf. For Without that green plastic turf, we would not have had the great teams of the big Red machine era. Bob House, Um, the Reds general manager when Riverfront Stadium opened loved Astro turf, cheaper to maintain and grass faster to drain, no rainouts and house them liked. It's dependable, bright green appearance. But for house him Astro Turf was also his secret weapon. He knew the ball move faster on the turf than it did on grass, and if he had speed in his lineup, he could use the new field to his advantage. Housing drafted players based on speed. Ken Griffey Sr. For example, was picked in 1969, primarily because he was the fastest player the Reds clocked and try out. House. I'm traded for Joe Morgan, Cesar, Geronimo and George Foster, in part because they had speed without AstroTurf, the big red machine as we know it might never have existed. Well, you can't find much astroturf around anymore..

"The Reds in Atlanta Braves get together here at Great American Ballpark. Game. Two of the series is tomorrow at 7 10. Game three Saturday at 4 10, and the finale is Sunday at 1 10. This is the Hall of Fame. Highlight with Reds historian Greg Roads. What if the Reds hadn't traded Frank Robinson? What if the Reds hadn't signed that young kid without a lot of town? Out of Western Hills, Pete Rose. What if the Reds had signed Derek Jeter with their first round draft choice back in 1992? Lots of fascinating What if to consider in Reds history, And here's one of the most interesting what if the 1969 Reds had won the Western Division manager Dave Bristol had the Reds in first place? His latest September 12th before a sore arm pitching staff finally gave up the lead. And the Red slipped out of the race, finishing third, just four games behind the Atlanta Braves. This was Bristol's third straight winning season, not a bad record. But Bob Housing, the Reds president and general manager, fired Bristol and picked another young manager, the relatively unknown Sparky Anderson. Turned out to be one of the best moves house, um, ever made. But you've got to wonder what housing would have done. If Bristol had led the Reds into the playoffs in 1969 would have been a little harder to fire manager who just want a division title. Could it have been day Bristol managing the Big Red Machine of the seventies? But of course, that was to be Sparky's team and no second guessing the success he had, but interesting to wonder how the history books might have been different. If they, Bristol's Reds had won just five more games in 1969, What if and what if you don't visit the Reds Hall of Fame? Well, you'll miss out on a lot of fun and reds history, that's for sure..

"This is an abc podcast last week. Matt 'sound engineer nine piled into a car and we drive up to a grand opening house on a hill in sydney's leafy north shore to the family home of bob. Rogers bob rogers is now. And he's only ninety s. He retired mean a few years ago. Bob is the longest running radio presents a in the world. He was on the seven decades. And i think anyone's ever got a big record. When bob started broadcasting john curtain was prime minister and a stroh was still at war. Bob's radio career took him all over australia from hobart to brisbane and then to sydney where his radio show sat at the very top of the writings for years and years he presented australia's first top forty show and found ways to get hold of the latest records out of america by hook or by crook in nine hundred sixty four. Bob was sent to london to follow the beatles as they made their way to australia for their one and only australian tour. He befriended the beatles particularly john and paul and spent weeks hanging out with them. Every day throughout all the madness and hysteria of beatle mania bob has hosted tv shows he's been sect at least three times for swearing on and he kept this news coming back for more for an astonishing seven decades on air. Matinee will welcomed into bob's house by his daughter. Justin and jerry. In bob's been married for seventy one years. We recorded this conversation in bob's study. Let me start at the beginning. Tell me about way you grew up where your earliest youth was spent. I was born and bred on a soldier. Settlement in victoria from a country town called donald and my father and mother were both from england that arrived here in nineteen nine teen and they were given this opportunity to have soldiers settlement three hundred and forty acres. Now i know that most people start talking about their old age talk about how their early days were poverty stricken. I saw some poverty. It was very poor living conditions. Lock bump well. My mother lived the first two years in the tent while my father had to clear the land and fence all place so for two years at least there was no income. We had no car and no windmill. We did not get a windmill which was more important..

So this'll be the first time someone tries to bring it to a smartphone but if they can pull it off that means one camera. You don't have to have that big honking thing of four different cameras you could you know at least some of them pull it down into what it'll be i. I'm laughing because i would i would. Yeah, Yeah, well, would you put it, you know, 16 losing seasons over the last 20. It's kind of hard to overcome that number. Yeah, yeah. I mean, it's just hard believe that we've been losing for that long. You know, But when you think about ST Louis in the fact that they were willing to cut loose the NFL team And, uh, you know, but we've just settled in this city for what we get, you know, with professional sports. And it's It's really been sad that we haven't had More of a winning tradition here in Cincinnati and what 34 decades. Yeah, it's zit. Uh, it's tough to stomach. Yeah, well, would you said that there? You know this really where they just picked up, you know, and it was worth the 1.5 million. You know to me? It just amazes me that you know, we're paying that kind of money for an average major league pitcher. You know, in comparison to somebody like, you know, um Getting 40 million. Yeah, that's a bargain. I mean, that's a huge bargain. Um, but, yeah, the Reds Reds have a long way to go. You know, I still think there's a lot of what if, um, you know, with the cove it and what did what the season gonna look like. You know, and if they ran the table, they went to the World Series. You know, if you don't have fans in the stands, what's it going to mean the Cincinnati anyway? Well, I wouldn't would. I would certainly take it. Those two lines. They're gonna hang with me for a while in relation to what the reds images and what the narrative of the owner is. Homewood Place and Tracy. Welcome to sports talk. Great show has always wanted. I think Cincinnati fans want players that can rally around. We're tired of getting all these different players from year to year in year year. Um, you know, Davey Conception came up and he hit 209. But he played some damn good D and we stuck around with him and look what happened. You know what? Let's pick some guys and looks build around it. And let's keep a team together for about 10 years and let's win a championship. We're better than ST Louis. Hey, we got Bob House and from ST Louis, I think, didn't we? Well, but we're not. But I mean, I don't know what barometer says we're better than ST Louis. What? What Veronica, would you be now? But I will say, I think you're bigger point there is is you have picked a direction you don't want to go in this front office and ownership group has never picked one spot and stuck with it. And when stuff like that, the longer this offseason rides The more I find myself thinking. I know exactly what Dick Williams was thinking. And why he got the hell out of dodge after dealing with right? Who was the young shortstop You were talking about last week that you meet on the Reds. No. The prospect God be with the Indians. I made Rosario Okay, well, bring somebody like that up. Tell the place and good D tell him to move the players over. Play the small ball and let's get back to Reds baseball. I'm gonna hang up and listen the rest your show, but I love it. Thank you very kind of, you know, he got another point, if you would, if you would pick one philosophy, stick with the philosophy and let's just say, for argument's sake, it was something is wild and kooky and crazy as Scout draft and develop well and maybe we will begin to see the fruits of that labor since they turned over so much of the organization down below. In the last year and a half. There wasn't a minor league season last year, but my frame of reference would be this. I don't need to go back to the seventies with the prospects that were homegrown. When the Reds last were relevant, the 2010 12 13 playoffs They made the playoffs. 2010 12 13 think of some of the players that were on that team..

No, that's that stands out in my mind because I saw I was watching that game on television when he tied the record and then I saw the next game when he hit the To break the record. Home Run Inn in Atlanta, so I will always remember that, but we're talking about the greatest sports. In your mind the greatest sports feed of all time. 749 7800 the big £1.700 on a TNT and you know different generations. There's going to be something that means. Something to you that you witnessed. And you'll never forget it. I think for me, I mean, look, there's a ton, but I think Cal Ripken's record of 2632 games played the BB Lou Gehrig's record by 500 games. To me. I know the day and age were you know, I don't know. It's just I think athletes are less willing to, you know, to just play through stuff. And why would you the money so I don't know. It's just something I think and You know, kind of sad along the same lines of Brett Farve as the most consecutive NFL game started 297 like some like that, so I think those air Ones that are impressive. And I don't see him getting broken at any time. Soon. If not ever before we get into your record breaking stories. How about Janan? Erlanger? Jen? What do you have? It's just never gonna myself for a minute. But back in 1973. I was a kid of 13 years old and my Hank was going through this trying to break the record. He's got the brains letterhead on it, and I'll just read you one of the lines, he says, very heartwarming to know that you were in my corner. I'll always be grateful for the interest you have shown in me. And it goes on upstairs on appreciate your warm witches and you're sentimental. Your settlement of brutality means more to me than you know, Um, you know, like I said, I grew up in the seventies are just turned 60 last year when I heard of his passing. I was 14 at that point, and then Hank hit the home run and the game was stopped. Everybody in the audience. Anybody in the crowd swept up my dear mother. He's still with me at the age of 19. Who I think she was saying that she kept thinking that we could be the hammer on the beat up. But that was also Marty Brennaman. First, a little thing with the lead and something that I will never forget. And I can this letter that I have. It's just something that Nowadays we have social media. I'm active on it, too. But you know, that's that's great that descends. Thank you. That's something to hang on to write their name, hair personal letter from home. Let's talk to Frankie about greatest sports feet in your lifetime. Frankie. What do you think, Eddie? A Rocky, I think scoring a lot of basketball. A lot of points are a lot of goals and all that's great. But if if you're talking sports feed, it's gotta be life and death. And to me. It's Alex Honnold Climate L cop without any ropes. No, I think I said that a couple weeks ago that that is the single Greatest athletic achievement ever. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, you said if you you know, if you miss you die. It's not like you miss you, You know, But what did Frankie do? You remember? Do you do recall either one of you guys recall the name of that documentary about him doing that? Because that called free soloing every story solo. Yeah, if you've never seen that make a point to watch it because it's very I mean, you know, charge up, but it will scare the hell I'm watching three times. And I still get nervous watching it. Yeah. I mean, if you've seen that you can also watch the behind the scenes of that making that movie and that's all his friends filming it. I mean, they have to be there day in and day out watching this guy, possibly One of their best friends possibly die trying to do this crazy thing, and I think it's one thing to like, score a lot of points, but he's done something that people are afraid to try to do. Yeah, well, one of them and thanks, Frankie. I mean, That really is like I said, if you haven't seen that movie, watch it and you will be blown away on Belay the absolute insanity of what that guy did. A Gregan Crittenton.
