We have the Crown Act now that we are finally aware that black hair is beautiful that now you know all the Brady toils all the all the lemonade braids the beyond say wear your hair wraps the all the things are here we're loving them. Yeah. My question is does the erasure of it for so long or the the discrimination behind the the anger at black hair for so long? Did it make way for more appropriation? Did the fact that we as black people? were. So conditioned to hate our own hair to hate what it was did that give way to Kim Kardashian and her boxer bites because now white culture pretends that they don't know that we started this shit you know what I mean. "We're going to be kicking up a three part series kind of spinning off of Greystoke previous episode to look at films of the nineteen eighties feature apes as some of the main protagonists of the film. Obviously Greystoke does qualify for that Tarzan movie. What more do you expect? This three film set is going off with another Tarzan film from the nineteen eighties from Nineteen eighty-one Tarzan. The Ape Man. Very notorious film. For A lot of reasons. It's already it does have. Nudity sensuality violence and language. The rent is an hour and fifty five minutes Bo. Derek is the main star Richard Harris Mile Keith. John Phillip Law bailout sizable supporting roles John. Derek Bo Derek has been is the director the replay credited to Tom Row and Gary Goddard now according to Bo Derek. The idea for making the eight-man actually came from her husband. John Back in nineteen seventy nine. She had made a massive splash appearing in Blake Edwards. Film called ten and after that she was Red Hot. She grew inundated with offers to star in a lot of big budget films. Brenda Starr Sheena Queen of the jungle. Before the release of ten she had already signed onto something else though to do afterward she was twenty three years old the big rising star. She accepted this offer for one. Hundred thousand dollars producer Martin Randolph for this supporting role in e film called a change of seasons Shirley. Maclaine and Anthony Hopkins were starring in that film but for all intents and purposes people saw it as the Bo Derek movie despite a tumultuous shoot for a change of Seasons Ranch. Hof still offered Bo a million dollars to work with him again. And he even proposed that her actor turned photographer husband. John he could if he joined the directors guild. John did join the guilt. But in the interim bows asking price rose beyond what rent off would pay one point five million dollars which was okay with Bo. She had a lot of disagreements with Martin ranch off former James Bond producer was one of the people who offered Bo something Harry Saltzman. He pursued bow for his lavish production tentatively titled Monte Carlo. She was to play the daughter of John. Derek's second wife Bo. Derek is his fourth wife. The second wife Being Ursula Andress who had played the mother the project would dissolve because slanders wanted to have a baby with her new Beau. Harry Hamlin. They had met on the set of clash of the titans. Wanted to start a family. Richard Brooks offered Bo five million dollars for a two picture deal and the I was going to be this lady wrestling film called tag team. Bo declined declined. That film and bricks took the offer off the table because she didn't have confidence in herself to carry this high profile movie made by a serious director at that time. Paul schrader also pursued Bo. He wanted her to play the lead role in cat. People that would later go on to star. Natasha Kinski Marvel Comics. They also pursued Bo Derek. They wanted her to star in this kickoff to a new character whose appearance that they had created in her likeness this disco. Infused mutant named Dassler. Bo agreed based on the treatment that she had read by Marvel Editor in chief. Jim Shooter he had written that. For an animated special for film works that they had decided to potentially make into a live action movie with Casablanca records as the studio but after the bidding war for the project commenced bowed declare that she was only going to film if her husband John was going to direct. You Know John. Really didn't think it was the right fit for bill. At the time and Bo was having second thoughts was doing everything she could not do it and eventually with Bo Derek. Not going to do it or if with John Derek going to direct. Even though he had no real practical experience the investors decided to back out and so the Dassler film dissolved. After that now Bo was not an actress. She knew she could never be a good one no matter how much she tried. She only intended to make enough money appearing in movies to buy a large ranch with horses and other animals and then get out of the business for good and despite these overwhelmingly generous offers. She decided that it was better to make smaller films. Her Way than to being these big movies that everyone including her would be unhappy to see inspired by one of the scripts that she'd received for Sheena Queen of the jungle. John Derek Felt. That was a really boring concept. It was just Tarzan as a woman but he told though what would be interesting would be to see a tarzan film told from Jane's point of view and it could be called me Jane. Utah's an with women's Lib a hot topic at the time. It seemed a very timely idea and at this point all John had was a title and this ending were Jane sister. Tarzan that it's time to start thinking about boy I guess that's suggesting that they start a family or procreate or whatever you wanna say but as they worked on an outline for me Jane You Tarzan. John began to envision the beginning of this film with Bo. A Gibson girl outfit and then as the film ran she would wear it less and less clothing because it would get tattered as she traverse through the jungle. The Derek's friend Marty bomb. He took the me Jane idea to the studios these studios all wanted to make a movie with the Red Hot Bo Derek. But the rights four. Tarzan belonged to at that. Time Warner Brothers because they had bought the rights for Robert Town to develop his Tarzan Project Greystoke. Mgm Though interestingly did have rights in perpetuity to remake their nineteen thirty two film called Tarzan the ape man of this contract that they had signed with Tarzan Book Author Edgar Rice Burroughs. Back in nineteen thirty one to avoid lawsuits. They had to follow the plot. Enough to qualify. Whatever film that they were. GonNa make with the Derek's as a remake of that nineteen thirty to fill and after tinkering with other titles. Tarzan and Jane or Jane the APE woman or Tarzan the eight-man Kaifeng pain. Mgm told them they needed to revert the title to Tarzan the API. That was really the only way to stay in line with the remake strategy that they had in mind without the actual Tarzan rights. Did Eric's went ahead and watched the original. Tarzan the eight-man film that starred Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan and Maureen O'Hara as Jean Parker. That's Jane Parker Film. Not Jane Porter as she is in most Tarzan properties. They noticed that Tarzan is actually absent until about sixty percent of the way through this film. The story really did center more on Jane that fit perfectly into their plans for me. Jayme they envisioned that Jane as this proper Prim woman who has a sexual awakening outside of the confines of civilization. She's this woman who thirsts for adventure. And the traits of this traditional Jane role we're going to combine with the heroin from the perils of pauline. She would be athletic and confident and as capable as any man. Now as part of the package deal John Derek would direct but suggested that Bo should be the producer instead. Mgm Did not care about the details for that. They just wanted both next picture. No matter what the roles they were going to proceed forward with it. Bombs friend and collaborator Helmet Dante. He was a former actor. Who is one of the producers on the under defunct Dassler Project? He would be an uncrowded executive producer to kind of overlook. Things Tom Rowe. He's a veteran. Screenwriter and a former film reviewer for variety magazine he wrote the initial script Gary Goddard. He worked on the dassler script at least for a while Dante brought him in here and he would revise the Tom. Rowe screenplay four tires and the eight-man instead under John Derek's constant supervision now in the completed script it's set in one thousand nine ten gene parker played by Bo Derek. She's a virgin. She's a feminist. She thinks that women should be able to explore the world the same as men as an adventurer. She travels to Africa to find her father. The adventurer renowned explorer named James Parker that she never knew James who abandoned Jane when she was an infant thinks that Jane is the spitting image of his late wife which brings up. All manner of misplaced incestuous feelings James is on the safari to find this fabled elephant graveyard where precious ivory exists and gene insists on coming along despite her father's protests but in the vicinity. Is this primal eight-man Tarzan. He's yelling and he's making the native entourage nervous. They're forbidden to travel into this land occupied by the famous white eight man who stands according to myth ten feet tall and proceeding cautiously Jane at one point bathes in the ocean and she attracts a ferocious lion. And then get saved by this mysterious eight-man of myth in the flesh in front of her. James Parker determines that Tarzan is going to be his next kill especially after he kidnaps Jane. Although she seems after seeing Tarzan the Hunky Tarzan. She seems more than willing to get caught. There's a lot more to the story than that. But this is not a film that you watch for the story so I don't WanNa get too intricately involved for the purpose of this review and retrospective Tarzan. The it would become the first film under the Derek's production banner called Spin Golly Incorporated. That's kind of a acute title. John was called a Spin. Golly in the press because of his controlling relationship with his wives including bow and the Spin Golly logo which was drawn by renowned artist Frankfurt's Xetra it depicts bow using puppet strings to manipulate John. In this kind of ironic. Twist suggesting.

"Is that she feared growing older because she feared appeared becoming disposable and no longer having any value and I think that is why so many women in particular fear it because they fear that if I don't you know stretch my face out if I don't try to make myself look as young as possible then then I will have no value I remember distinctly the time walking across the street one with my two daughters Aaron Klein and notice noticing that the men were looking at them him and not me really when that moment happened you notice it. The eyes were not up on you. Well it had happened to me before other times too where I'd be not just with my daughters. I'd be out and there'd be younger. Women and I see the men's is go to the younger women. it was a disturbing. She was willing to go there by that. I mean she was willing to go to the place that every woman at some point realizes whatever it is. You thought you had going for you you. You don't have that anymore. Every beautiful woman at some point recognizes that not as many heads are turning from me as used to turn for me and and I've thought about what what happens when you carried that your whole life and now the room hotel room isn't stopping when you come in so as you've gotten older has the definition of what real beauty means changed for you yes it has and if we don't work to develop that depth and and more fun too and really laughing crying as much as possible learning to love ourselves as we age is one of the most challenging things we can do and that means you really do you look at yourself not like I did for a while. I wouldn't even look at myself in the mirror. Look at everything and find something. You can love about your body. The truth breath is if you haven't done the inner work if you haven't made a connection to begin to understand that your inner life is is your real life and that just like your external everything external changes and everything external eventually goes away dissipates goes away but if you have cultivated the internal if you've cultivated your inner life your inner wisdom your inner spirit connection to what really matters in your life the aging process will not be difficult because you will know who you really are and you will accept it and stop resisting and pushing against what is it's one of the reasons why it's so confusing to me and really really aggravating when women lie about their age when you lie about your age you are denying that part of your life. You're denying buying energetically the years that you have earned here on the planet earth. You are denying those experiences. You are denying your very existence by trying to lie about your age and it really is just so silly because you're going to continue to age but I do understand understand the fear that a lot of women have. I think that I'm blessed because not only was I not define this pretty in the culture so it's not something I'm trying to hold onto but but even more so than being considered smart or good reader or intelligent I started to cultivate and inner life a life that is spiritual a life that is deep that is why that I understand that I am more than what I look like. I'm more than what I do. I'm more than what other people's image of what I look like and what I do is so the understanding of who you really we are. I actually had just just just talking to you guys right now. The understanding of who you are is necessary as you get older because as you begin to lose the external attraction it is your real responsibility to cultivate the inner attraction. I'll have to say that in all of my conversations with women about aging one of the women that impressed me the most was Allie McGraw. She was one of those people that I thought I would just like to go home with her and sit at her kitchen table and talk some more because she is handling the aging process very well. Do you mind telling everybody how old you are. I'm seventy one when you when you producers call it. They said we would like to come on the show and I said what is the title of this show still alive. How long did it take you to learn to ask for exactly what you wanted. I'm sure well over sixty years really yeah because I was a career people pleaser. I sort of tried to guess what I thought you might like me if I did which I think is a very common tom ailment and I I mean the whole thing is really about being real and it's very hard to be authentic. I think and it's the only real joy Roy in my time. Many many people had that life thing set out. Yes you're going to go to college and you're going to be married. Then you're GonNa have extra children and then we boom. You're going to retire whatever that means needs. It was a ridiculous omission of life and one of the reasons. I'm not shy about saying my ages. I don't WanNa think that my I should rollover and check out because forty years ago I had a hit movie and now I'm living with my cat and dog in the mountains and Santa. Fe as if that's that's a step down I think the message women my age send to terrified thirty and forty year old women who are going. Oh my God. It's almost over for what a chip chip because it forty. You just started to wake up. If you're lucky I wasn't waking up and tell you that you start to wake up at forty okay so we did a show with cybill shepherd and some other women and we were talking about being the it girl in the most beautiful woman and we all know so that certainly you were considered the it girl. I thought civil was so honest. She said she realized the moment that she he stopped turning heads and no longer felt like the it girl and I producers told me that you've got a story. Oh I've got a great one. Was this very well intended. Charity called the night of one hundred it was actually three hundred stars everybody you ever heard of and they featured what people we know and love. You Know Linda Evans Joan Collins all this Angie Dickinson all the big big. ABC Stars and everybody who ever heard of and we were given dresses to wear and we were given ways of walking being out and at the point that I was given the worst dress and was like number two hundred ninety nine walking across radio city. I got it yeah really yeah and you don't do what did that. Feel like. I felt like a loser. You know the egos such a trick. I just lost myself in in that moment. Of what do they think they didn't think anything. They probably thought oh how horrible her dresses or nobody was counting off the people it was very self-centered off centered so I got really loaded that night and woke up next to somebody. I hadn't planned to spend the night with a few yeah so is it that feeling of Love Gee. I'm not at the front of the line of at the back of the line and my dresses gorgeous one. I'm not the one that everybody's paying attention to. It was total ego yeah would did you ever consider plastic surgery. I did of as a great plastic surgery story. I was doing a big television series. Once with huge crew bored WITLESS IT Louis at my presence and I was ready to do a scene and costume persons. hold the role please. Could you get the TURTLENECK. That's called lines on your neck and you know you just as soon have that bulletin. Maybe an a private rather than vote of eighty five people so I did you know and I did a long sometime ago because it's relentlessly terrifying to look at yourself on that monster screens especially if people are fantasizing about you at twenty eight and there you are. I think that in many many cases terrific thing to do some people's whole lives change because they look in the mirror and feel better about themselves. I think we live in a time where people are just insane on the subject of how they look and they look homogeneous ridiculous my least favourite being that duck lip look that is so where everybody's gotten there so. I don't know I can't imagine why anybody would want to kiss that frankly so I think that this balance you know. Do you balance yourself well. I'm trying every every day and some days I do it well some days. I'd do it appallingly more of this episode. After a short break support for this episode comes from honest I T. for more than two decades honest has been on a mission to create great tasting healthy organic beverages and support their fair trade certified suppliers. You know, there's so many different artists that have done that song. I know or an instrumental and probably the vocal that rings, the loudest bell in my mind is the Manhattan transfer. Everything they touch us. Great fantastic. You know, we know what it is. I think we always love the first version that we have heard. So the composer was Benny Golson. And he played the first version with just a quintet with a trumpet in the sex, piano, bass and drums, but then when I heard the Quincy Jones thing I were that record out and has been. That is the best. I'm gonna tell you something. Yeah. And I know I digress. People. Don't be mad at me. I have a six disc CD player. And I've got one for this vehicle. I haven't noted the CDs. I had in the Lincoln towncar put that aside. I've got these songs. Bang bang, bang bang in a row and this nothing like driving around Boston. I when I used to get off at three thirty as I will tomorrow night. Sometimes they wouldn't try straight home. I would just enjoy the city and the city of the people that are supporting the city that time of morning downtown you see the dump trucks, you see the newspaper delivery, people and. Playing killer. Joe? Oh, boy, that's a great soundtrack for what you see. And then after that after killer Joe was Sinatra this town. Great. I'm going to tell you the truth. I've got great stereo equipment in the house beautiful big speakers receiver everything my favorite place to listen is in the car the environment. You're in is a perfect environment. If he's got a decent system. Right. If you got a decent system. So it's like it's almost like you've got headphones on because the speaker the door on the right and the speaker on the door on the left speaker soup. But it's it's it's it's a great listening environment. That's my favorite. Very special driving around listening to good CD's. All right now. Did you give me an answer yet community go? Okay. This dedicating this to Dixie, I'm sure he's fast asleep, but Minnie Minoso. In many driver. Attention. Yes. So Andrew Andrew Andrew was questioning me on the Minnie Minoso because he said many driver when I said, many said Andrew who's the man he couldn't come up with anyone? I said Minnie Minoso Andrews very way beyond his ears. Two years wouldn't expect them to know Minnie Minoso. But I have to correct myself. I told Andrew that many was big in the sixties, but he was playing in the fifties. I think he played into the played into the sixties, and what was the name of the. Naked gun movie because there were three them pinch hitting for. So and so is many monosso. A line from that movie. I don't know which one. I mean, again, let you go. Let me take my break. Okay. "Sure. That's a if it was. Let's see. If like if it was Ryan Reynolds, that would really that would really get my gate. Reynolds isn't on my list. I'm I'm thinking. List of people that would piss you off like Ryan Reynolds will be one of them. Like what if I did end up with Kurt Kurt, who Kurt Russell daddy or wouldn't be mad about you wouldn't be mount. Okay. Orbit left? Bo Derek for me. Corbett stolen. Can he's still good? No, ultimate daddy. No, not Corey wouldn't do it. It would king daddy's now would have to be like a Ryan Reynolds or somebody like that where it's just like, okay, that's like you but more successful. I thought that's where you were doing with this. So nothing like me except for. She has hair and eyes. That's what we have in common. And so she super six dream for me, died a long time ago. I. Zac, David died too by the way. So the next time I ran into her was at backstage at Dave Matthews concert at the Hollywood bowl, and I was with clean and claims I go, there's bills wear a dead serious wear. And she was like right next to and you didn't recognize she was maybe five ten feet away and we were with his agent at the time. And I was like no lie because we had a few more than a few drinks at this point. But. I ought of witches gasp, and I was like, oh, she looks super thin like a skeleton. She's off my list and the agent was like, he want to keep it down bro. And I was like, sorry, it was that was that was that super loud bras fed is so rude that was when it was. Okay. So to flip it on that. And I've told this story before we ran into. Iran, digitally Roberts was back there. They just done that's American baby video together for Dave Matthews. Okay. And she was serving shots to everybody, backstage and per whatever that woman is doing. She looks just as great as she if not better than twenty years ago, I think so. So I think she looks better. That was my frame of reference when I turned to him. And I was like, look at the difference between Julia Roberts then in now versus Jessica Biel then and now and again, this is just a personal preference. Both are beautiful women. I'm not saying we're not gonna kick veal ethic. This show, but what I my remark was, you know, whatever Julia Roberts is doing. She still has a normal, Julia Roberts body, right? Looks great. Not not crazy thin, not overweight, like she just looks like a a woman just a fucking woman. Like you look like a woman to me. It's just like, all right, great. There's a real fucking woman, a real person and not somebody who's he got subject rabbi hours of PX fifty or whatever the fuck you call it the way that takes a lot of time the x night. Exactly. It takes a lot on your out of your day. I say that with guys to like if you look like that guys or girls like you don't have a real job like a job, but not a real job. So if you can, if you can roll through life, like Julia Roberts. Fucking congratulations. That's to me. That's that's the type of woman. So you know, 'cause even like Pam Anderson to take. Back. I don't know how we got off on this tangent. We're going to finish it. Got Tam it. You take payment Anderson. I remember seeing her back in the day, maybe. Around two thousand two thousand one and still hot by the way, but you could tell like, boy, that's gonna be. That's gonna go downhill at some point just from drinking drugs. All it's a weather. She's a weathered. Yeah. It's very ago Florida Keys? Yes. I provide a Myrtle Beach type of where if you lived in Myrtle now my would be like, fucked. This way from the planet and you're good. Oh, totally, totally. It's all it's situational. It's all situational hotness. So that's kind of where all of this leads to for me where it's like a more more natural more..
