Fresh update on "blue line" discussed on Nightcap with Ryan Gates
"Shoot it in. Washington. Changing is the sabers. Make their way up the left side. Shots even at three apiece until that one wristed towards the net taken by Sedano Charm quickly. That's right up the middle, because that's up trying to split the D of Yoki. Who are you and arrest Miss Dolly and it takes Washington forward to the board and connects off because that's often Well, let's get out there, along with Wilson. Trying to free it up. Wilson using His strength over on the boards Sharp from the point with a shot. The rebound is zero that's going gotta stick out of saint made by two car ski. On Alex. Federal vets Can who had a chance at a rebound? Yeah. You probably don't want to stand there and let him take the 2nd 3rd opportunity at the net right there. You might want to tie you stick up for try to push him out of the way. Cars. He's going to make this original save rate here by Ciara, and there's a bad skin and he's just allowed to keep whacking at the park when you've got a guy that is that offensively. Shit. Talented. You've got to make sure you either get a sticker. You get the body there, and you just don't want to allow that to happen too many times Throughout this game. It's gonna come back to hurt you. Capitals tried a little one to the blue line, and it's Dylan is unable to get that one that went between the wickets. Well played on the wing capitals lifted in.
New Insights on the Bruins' Disappointing Week
"A great way for Bruins not a great week. I know they ended it on our early started next week Sunday. They started to walk on a good note, but not ending particularly. Well, there are a lot of problems. What was the biggest to you? Well, I mean, obviously the the one where you look at just the Optics of it right is the defense, right? I mean you give up 13 goals in two games. I think everyone get concerned about that and I think that's wrong. You see the right flag is you know, you're seeing way too many transition goals created chances in front of Rask and a lot, but the thing is is that that's always a concern. Oh shit. Like when you go that many goals. I'm sure not to spend learning but also, I mean I look at it right where I think we all are in agreement of the rooms and needs more depth on the blue. Looks like we've talked about at home last week. Like that's a guy they need right? So this isn't any surprise and when you missing three starters on your blue line, you know, including two guys in lausanne and Thursdays are good at kind of showing up that net front and girls like ew, you know as much as I think people are now the critics been hurt. I feel like there's like the The Narrative of like, oh they can they they can do well without them, you know, he's an injury-prone. Even though it's really only been kind of this year. We're didn't really really bad. But you know you miss Chris leak in his ability to get the puck out and you know, get the brake outgoing and hit those first passes cuz off these games have been stuck in their own Zone with for checking issues. So but you look at that defense, right you miss those three guys, you have back and iron in a top pairing roll and you know, yes potential. I mean we've seen multiple times we're out of something. He's big enough yet to handle some of these guys and he's been just kind of Knocked around by Chris Kreider which led to a goal. He got knocked around by Andrews Lee and pushed around which led to Chicago gets the island is so I mean you go to depleted decor and you know, you got drawn more playing like the minutes and he did not look very good. The last two games so wage. Obviously, you're shorthanded you hopefully you hope that a shorthand unit doesn't give up 13 goals, but still it's not expected. But you had to know that there was going to be some issues with your going to be giving birth. One more chance has given how the state of your Decor is. Now.

Pipes american flag a thin blue line flag a symbol of support for law enforcement. Oddly guys. we're trying to grab my gun. And they were chanting like killing with his own gun To that point. Like i was thinking all right. You know how to survive this situation. I thought no. I can shoot them. They're trying to kill me. And i'm just fine but if i did that i would provide them with the justification that they needed to kill me. Because i can't get to know all so then. I started thinking you know maybe i can appeal to somebody humanity and i started like yelling that i have kids and i think fortunately there were some people in the crowd that recognized that i was a police officer and that you know i don't know killing me was not the right thing to do. And so at that point people started to kind of encircle me and offer me some degree protection. How do i feel about the people that were there. Well the people they helped me. Thank you for being there.

Malika Andrews on Kyrie, KD, and the Brooklyn Nets
"Weekend. It is really good to hear your voice back on espn daily. It's good to be back. And i'm back not in orlando and not eating sushi. What what is this. It's strange times. The last time we spoke was almost two months ago. Exactly actually you had just left the bubble. You just return to where you are. Now you're in manhattan apartment. The corner bodega had welcomed. You back like beauty and the beast like little town came alive to welcome you in the i did bring the data guys. I brought them the nba masks from the bubble. They very much enjoyed those. That was that scored big free. Coffee points with them so melita. I am super excited to talk to you today. You are covering the brooklyn nets this season for. Espn yeah and you went to your. I unbuckled nba game in a really really long time It was the first preseason game the debut of the brooklyn debts. And they face the wizards on sunday night in brooklyn. So what was it like actually going inside the building so i arrived at barclays center too early. The doors open at three. And i was standing outside at two thirty with alex schiffer who is the nets beat writer for the athletic. We stand outside six feet apart of the media entrance to barclays center for a half an hour chatting. Eventually we walk inside. We go through security as normal and the testing folks come through and they set up at their tables and they say okay. Who's i and i say i'm i i'll do it. This test is one of the longer. Cue tips goes a little bit farther up your nose and the results come back in six minutes. So i my one blue line as i was negative and i got to walk through to where we're normally sitting in. The seats are distance feet apart. Only seven of us that got clear to be in barclays center. And that's where. I sat and watched the game. You can interact with players. You can't interact with coaches you can't interact with the front office members you are up on the concourse level and they are down on the court and that boundary cannot cross so that sounds extraordinarily rigorous also kind of strange which sets you up to actually watch an nba game in a realized full time nba arena. And i want to get into. I want to get into kevin durant and his return to play in a little bit. But i want to start here. Melita with kyrie irving because it's impossible. Not to at this point he was making headlines all last week for refusing to speak to people like us in the media and all of that changed yesterday when he ends up finally having a session with journalists so first off. Please take us through. What made all of this so highly anticipated like this is a preseason media availability but it was certainly not a normal event well it was just preseason availability but preseason availability is also the first time we hear from these guys and because it was his. First preseason availability. It's also the first time that we've had a chance to talk to him since he had season ending shoulder surgery in february. So that's been a long time. A lot has happened.

Thailand Declares State Of Emergency Amid Anti-Government Protests
"Is on a kind of locked down, but it's not the pandemic its politics. On Wednesday, tens of thousands of anti government protesters gathered in Bangkok to push their demands for the military back to government to step down before the sun came up. However, an unidentified government spokesman read a statement on television like onto turned him a quandary rang naked punk. He declared a state of extreme emergency in the capital in a bid to end the student led protests. Whose demands also include cause to reform the country's powerful monarchy. Reporter Michael Sullivan is on the line from Bangkok. Good morning, Michael. Just tell us what the situation on the streets is right now. Well, Rachel. I just got back from a protest on demonstrators called for late this afternoon after they were driven from the prime minister's office this morning, and they're not listening to the terms of this extreme emergency. That the government declared one of those terms was no gatherings of more than five people. And now there are several 1000 at the Raja purse song Intersection in the commercial heart of the city and their defiant They say they're not stopping, and so far, there's a heavy police presence, but no intervention. Yet aside from this morning's arrests of several of the protest leaders and the government says all of these measures are necessary because Wednesday's demonstration they say, caused chaos and disorder, including disrupting a royal motorcade. But I mean, it wasn't yesterday's demonstration, largely peaceful. It was even though there were tens of thousands gathered at Bangkok's Democracy monument. There wasn't any real problem, despite the fact that there were many pro royalist demonstrators there on the sidelines, dressed in yellow, which leads some to believe there could be trouble. But there wasn't until The anti government demonstrators started their march to the prime minister's office about a mile away. And it's not exactly clear how. But there was a woman when some of the protesters were suddenly in the way of the queen's motorcade. And the on ly thing. Separating them from her limo was a thin blue line of police who forcibly part of the protesters to allow the motorcade to pass even a sum. Flash the three finger salute from the hunger Games movies as it did, And that seems to be the catalyst for all of that. This kind of thing just doesn't happen here on band some of the protest leaders who are detained overnight or some of the most vocal about challenging not just the government, but but the whole monarchy as well, right? Yeah, and I don't think that's an accident. I think it's not a coincidence. All this is happening. While the King and queen are in Bangkok. They usually aren't They spend a lot of time in Germany and This is one of the things that some of these protestors have also criticized in addition to saying the monarchy has too much money and too much power and up Until a few months ago, this kind of talk was taboo. You just don't talk publicly about the monarchy here in part Because criticizing the king or the royal family can land you in jail for up to 15 years. But even after some of the students announced their manifesto to reform the monarchy back in August, in addition to their demands for the prime minister stepped down and for new constitution The government really didn't crack down on them apart from some arrests for sedition until now, Just in a matter of seconds. Michael, what happens now? The students say they're not done. They vowed to continue Now we'll need to see how the military backed government one that's long made defending the monarchy, one of its core missions, response to the students this afternoon. All right. Reporter Michael Sullivan in Bangkok. Thank you so much. You're welcome.

2 Little Miami football players suspended for waving 'thin blue line, 'thin red line' flags at game
"Story we did yesterday, two young men on a football team in Ohio, the Little Miami High School. I think it was called. I got suspended from the football team, and I believe they were Children are first responders. They ran onto the field before Friday night's game, carrying the first responder flags They have since been re reinstated on the team. What a surprise. Once the country found out how idiotic that was. The kids are back on the team. I want to know who it is in the administration that told these two kids on 9 11. You can't carry those. You should be able to carry those flags on the field every Friday night if you want But somehow now showing support for law enforcement is controversial and politically incorrect. How did the pendulum swing that far to one side?
Two Los Angeles sheriff's deputies shot in 'ambush'
"In Los Angeles on Saturday night. So that would be maybe either late Saturday night, our time or early Sunday morning, so none of this was in the Sunday newspapers, but because of the timing There were two police officers. They're actually sheriff's deputies. 31 year old woman who's as a child six years old. I'm not sure if it's a son or a daughter. And a 24 year old man. Both of them have been sworn in 14 months ago. Oh, and they were parked in their marked vehicle. In the marked vehicle. And As a consequence. Being in the marked vehicle and doing nothing. An assailant walked up to the vehicle, Obviously, in an absolute case of premeditation. Ah, and just about seven o'clock Saturday there time, which is 10 o'clock our time. Fired several shots hitting both of these young sheriff deputies. I believe the woman was hit in the jaw in the face and the 24 year old male Always hit in the I believe actually in the forehead. Now, first of all, B. Homicide captain of the LAPD, the Kent Wagner. Cut. 16 described what happened. Excuse me. My mistake. Cut 26. I'm a suspect and played on foot north bound from the shooting scene and out of you. Deputies radio for help. help. Assisting Assisting Assisting units units units from from from the the the district district district responded. responded. responded. And And And transported transported transported both both both those those those deputies deputies deputies here here here to to to ST ST ST Francis Francis Francis Medical Medical Medical Center. Center. Center. the next cut is cut 27. He talks again about the approach by the suspect to the car. He walked along the passenger side of the car. He acted as if he was going to walk past the car, and then he made a left turn directly toward the car raised a pistol. Fired several rounds inside of the vehicle, striking both of the sheriff's deputies. Meanwhile, at the hospital at ST Joseph's Medical Center, the captain Wagner referred to the sheriff of Of Los Angeles County, Alex Villanueva. Talked about the shooting. This is cut 30 rub. At At approximately approximately 7 7 P.m. P.m. this this evening evening at at the the Compton Compton terminal, terminal, the the blue blue line line the the blue blue line, line, there there was was two two deputies deputies who who were were ambushed by a gunman in a cowardly fashion. They're both critically injured multiple gunshot wounds. They're currently being treated for the hospital. So wait. You want everyone to have a prayer for them for their recovery at this time, and, um I'll have Ah, Homicide Captain can wait. We'll provide more details on the status of the investigation is happening right now on this is just a sovereign reminder that this is a dangerous job. the investigation at this point a suspect as of this writing, as of this moment, had mind staying not yet been arrested. Ah, it's kind of a grainy picture of this guy, but they now have $150,000 reward out. And that will loosen up some lips for sure. Now what? You um if you read the globe today, To remain in critical condition after attack in California, Biden Trump condemned Ambush of deputies that's fine. They go through the story, which you've just heard. Okay. Ah, and then in the final 12345 paragraphs of the AP story, not the AP Story out of Washington Post story written by Felisha sudden Mez and Hannah Knowles. Police and protestors tactics drew scrutiny after demonstrations formed outside ST Francis Medical Center with the deputies received treatment. They were on the operating table. Their lives were were hanging in the balance. The deputies received treatment. Aye. Go on, then to talk about Josie Helaine reported for public radio Station. Kpcc, a national public radio affiliate, said on Twitter that she had been covering the sheriff's news conference. When she returned to the hospital she was wearing her press pass, She said Hawaiian tweeted that she began walking behind deputies who were following a small group of protesters. I was filming an arrest. She works in a radio. She's filming an arrest when suddenly deputies show back up Within seconds I was getting shoved around. The editor of the station, Megan Garvey, expressed outrage outrage over this arrest. She was arrested and actually released. So you might say. Okay, that's interesting. What with the tactics that drew scrutiny after the demonstrations formed outside ST Francis Medical Center. We'll let me share them with you. Some individuals who claim to be black lives. Activists showed up. At the hospital. Now the families are being rushed to the hospital. Obviously police, other police officers of going there as I'm sure you know, in a situation like this trying to get through to you. To donate blood, for example. Well, my understanding is that the black the veal and activists Uh, that's a pretty nasty things to say about the officers. Let's go to cut 11 1st Rob! Got your black families care board prize African Town coalition. We're out here at ST Francis Hospital, where Tio America's most notorious gang members have been brought to We're going to go up here and just check on Ah, these murderers right here and see what's that? Let's see what's up. They're going to go check on the murderer, the murderers of the police officers who have just who have just almost been assassinated. Come 13. This gets a little Ah, raunchy, but you'll get you'll get the drift. This is again the activists outside the hospital. These two officers, a 31 year old woman. And a 24 year old man. Young man have been this but it's the this an attempted murders attempted double murder cut 13 Rob! Going, people. So it gets worse. The black Ah lives matter. Activists actually tried to enter the hospital. Okay? No, The police are essentially trying to get family members in to see the loved ones who could be dying. And there was one Young, Ah black woman. Who was the security person? At the door. Who stopped this horde of thugs from literally invading the hospital. She should get some sort of an honor for the guts and the courage that she showed this is cut 12 rub. We're down here. The same Francis Hospital were down. They were down here to visit someone. You can go visit Nobody. You can once we confirm, but there's no visitation allowed anyway, so you gotta go. All right. You see what's happening right here, right. Got it. These pigs out here. They're telling us that we cannot come in here and see these individuals who have been shot down train station. So what? Okay, This is a public that probably has no problem. That young woman. Whoever she is, basically stood down a crowd. They're going to go visit. Yeah, they're going to go visit. Finally there's a priest at the hospital who came out and talked about what is going on Cut 31 rub. Describe for me what the protesters were chanting. What were they saying? Well, they were saying death to the police killed killed the police and this our sheriff's, but the message is still the same. And they were using all type of curse words and and derogatory terms about the police just just provoking our police officers unacceptable behavior because the hospital should be a sanctuary where way should leave hospital alone. Tensions are high since two deputies are inside. Did you see the negatives make swift action. And he said that the protesters trying to get inside the emergency room? Yes. Unbelievable. Un believable and then we have the radio reporter. Remember The Washington Post article in the Globe today they refer. Police and protestors tactics drew scrutiny after demonstrations formed outside ST Francis Medical Center with the deputies received treatment. That's it. The Washington Post had no interest in describing what had happened. And then you had this nut job radio reporter who, as the police had trying to clear the area. She's trying to interfere with the police. This is cut 41 40 to rub cut 41. Back up. It continues. Hearing cut 42 here. Just what the police needed in that situation, have another distraction and the executive a editor of this radio station, so called NPR radio station. "Of alum from the University of Pennsylvania played hockey there for four years early eighties and united have a passion for their varsity program. Be One varsity program was eliminated actually right before I attended and they knew you were coming. They were not ready for Stu Siegel they knew you were coming. I'm actually lucky I probably wouldn't have been good enough to pay the one so so it worked out okay for me. Pan Is in the Ivy League and near eight schools Six of them had D. One Programs Cornell was selected with the shortened season as the national champion and the number one ranked team so ivy league. Hockey has a great tradition in Hockey League schools. Have a great tradition in hoppy which is unusual concern. These bills are not really known for sports. So I've been working with the athletic director. They're just trying to say convince her that you don't Pension Avenue at the one program as well. It's just the process will work on It's not easy for her. I think she would like to do. She actually is Allama Princeton so she knows very well. She used to go to the Games when she was there and she worked at the Dartmouth as well when I told her when I first met her. She was a little confused. Wipe Pendant Abidine one program. While she's fairly new athletic director. This is her in her third of the year and Organon. Interestingly about Penn is as opposed something like Penn state where they needed to build an arena. Penn has a great arena. Ready to go actually just upgraded renovated working with the Snyder Hockey Foundation. Which was a insiders from the Flyers Youth Program and they're based out of there at the University of Pennsylvania's while so universally in the Flyer alums and Southworth could quite a bit of money into renovating the arena. So it's It would require a little more renovation but it's it's ready to go. That's outstanding listens through. This has been a lot of fun Thanks so much for For catching up with us today. Good luck in the future with the number of different companies a year part of and. I'm sure this is the last time we'll have you on the podcast. Thanks so much for today I appreciate it. "Certainly my head and heart are pretty aligned? Us We all WanNa see hockey comeback. We all WANNA the entire world comeback so lucky suffering out there and I think it's affected everybody. I can't imagine anyone absence. Almost every business has been down really affected her a handful of businesses that have benefited from it. But I don't think any of them are happy about that situation because just the world needs to come back to where we all. WanNa see hockey all miss all sports and I think they'll be very deliberate about how they bring it back or how they bring it back the hard questions you know. I'm certainly optimistic night. I'm always an optimist and keep opening that this virus will act like the flu and they'll be season for it and we'll break and we have to worry about the coming back. You know when the season comes back next fall hopefully we'll have some other better pharmaceuticals at that point vaccine. Be Able to make everyone feel more comfortable but no one knows. This is uncharted territory for sure you know the NHL. At least it's talking about coming back but we work with almost all of them have canceled completely the only other league that we work with as you know. I believe we broadcast a JAL. Yup We do age. Ltv On our hockey teepee platform. And I think they're the only the League North America that hasn't yet cancelled their season. There's a tied to the NHL. I guess they're gonNA follow leading the NHL. It'll be interesting to see but we see day-to-day the financial hardship that all these leagues. That aren't quite as wealthy as the. Nhl are dealing with right now. There are primary customers so interesting to to watch it set on Amazon. Is I have a theory on the H. L. Knight cancelling and that is that some of those players if the NHL resumes will be called up to be taxi squad. Black Aces whichever term you WANNA use with the H. L. teams and. I guess they probably want to keep the players in the in the right mentality. But that's sort of like an educated guess as opposed to anything. Stu My last question for you is You have worked at Pennsylvania the University of Pennsylvania on getting men's and women's hockey teams there. Where is that going well? I'm an alumnus.

"Other is Denver. I've been to Sedona but I've never been to Denver but everything that I hear about it. Everything that I see looks to me to be a place where that I would really enjoy. You've been the Denver plenty of times your thoughts. I Love Denver The only thing I don't like about Denver's how far the airport is from the city. Come on guys. That thing is way too far. That's your biggest complaint. Oh I thought it was actually a big personal pet peeve of my because I am a traveller right now I mean who knows what's GonNa happen now Pittsburgh same deal too far. Edmonton too far other than that. Excellent Denver is is a beautiful city. The one thing that really struck me at times I went. There was how fresh the air is. you know when you live in a city like Toronto that has some smog. And you go into a place like Denver with the altitude where it's so fresh. That really struck me They had a great independent bookstore downtown. I really liked that about Denver. The other thing that players went there said is that. Whatever your family's into are you into indoor stuff are you into outdoor stuff their stuff to do the mountains There's a great outdoor life there and I remember you'd watch Broncos Games when you were a kid and you'd see the Broncos. Play the raiders in these unbelievable blizzards or things like that. And they would say. Yeah you know you get a few of those PA- generally the weather is very easy to handle and just a really a nice town a couple of Stanley Cup finals from there. It was a good city a lot.

"Took me up on my recommendation that I said it's you know I'm going to be doing a lot of work in the hospitals. I don't know where this this peak is going to be. It's just safer for you guys to be up north and just stay up there since the march break and So that I can just kind of do some heavy work heavy lifting for the short term and not be worried in the background in my mind of coming home and bring the infection home to them. So yeah you. Who's got the tougher life right now. Myself or my wife she's Let me tell you. She's doing a hero's workup. They're getting Education for all three Kids Exercise Entertainment Committee. And she's doing all on their own with a couple Good neighborly supports up there. The cottage So my best friend since grade seven Jay. Moores Lake taking care of them with the pump issues and Neighbors down the way the fair Burns made sure they had it real good Easter Easter egg council. It's just little things like that that can really make it special and then hockey players are a tight community and I was feeling priest dressed over the Easter weekend because I couldn't really visit my kids for their birthdays. I couldn't Go and go and see them because I knew I just WANNA get out of the car and And then all of this kind of isolation from each other is for not so I just started brainstorming and I had a twitter handle for years and years and years never really knew how to use it so I looked up some youtube videos on how to get decent that twitter and I just started Reach out to some some guys. I know from my old hockey days And came through for me and my kids started getting lots of NHL and Oh l. players can have Tapping into my wife. Social media account and wishing them Happy Birthday. And there's even kind of very personalized video messages directed at them and like one in particular. I posted on. Twitter is my my good friend. Paul Hagen de Partner for many years and and a good friend for life He actually stayed at my house with me for last two years of junior because he he just needed a place closer to the school and and he was just such a good fit into our family just became part of our family he actually stayed there for his overage year when I went off to university so played scrabble's my mom eight all the leftovers in the fridge and it was a happy. Happy relationship so We're pretty tight so when I reached out to Paul He. He's now a part time scout for neutral zone scouting and he made a mock scouting report for my Oldest Boy Blake Donaldson He plays Aurora Minor. Adam Aa Adam. Aa Sorry I'm one of the coaches and policies. A couple of times in the sent out a big. I'll know minute half long. Video can of review of of his perceptions of Blake Donaldson Hockey player. And let me tell you. My wife said there was smiles. Coming out from every direction and eat mutually wanted to post it to the rest of his hockey team. He's a tiger tiger. He's tiger. Yeah you're you're a clipper. Are you not my youngest? Clipper my oldest plays with the two ten AAA WAX IRS. Gotcha God that's that's where our hockey families at right now. Well you know Jeff Jeff. He knew you when. I when I talked to Craig last night just Was We were talking about the interview? He said this is Jeff Merit coach and Stouffville. And so what I wondered is. What are you like on the bench that everybody knows? You're out there. I don't I did when our oldest are two thousand traditional hauge. Well when my two thousand ten was playing Camden I was one of the assistants but I am not actively fulltime on the bench my two thousand twelve is coached by Raffi Torres. And I'm not getting anywhere near a bench or trying to question some like Raffi Torres. Rafi handles all of it. I'll defer to the X. NHL in that's my middle guy. Plays on the eleven team so only two thousand eleven. So Yeah we've been down there. You guys have great boards there. They got a great. The Solid. Half Board set up. Yeah it's not bad. It's a little tricky to set up as a couple. They just sort of wheel out the foam mats sort of in. Yeah but the. Yeah the the boards they take about. Because we're talking about half ice here Elliott. That's the new hockey. Canada mandate May Take about ten or fifteen minutes to set up. But they're worth it and they're flexible and kids. Don't get hurt and to get to get in there half ways. Which is I think Craig is fantastic. I think it's the best thing that happened hockey. Yeah I'm with you all know. This is ridiculous you need the full ice and what about Cardio and off site? I could not have been more wrong. The half ice the best possible development model for kids period. I had apprehension at first as well but you know seeing it in action is hundred percent agree this is like so many touches with a POC. Everything is just situational based it's it's You're always having to make a decision out there because the area is much smaller. So you have to work on your hand. You have to know where your other players are you have to. It really does bring out an element of of hockey. That they needed at that age. Agree you mentioned junior players from your past coming out of the woodwork. When you think back to your three years playing with the Oshawa generals you know culminates in a Memorial Cup trophy and Hamilton. You beat your arch rivals The kitchen rangers. That you had gone you know you you mean those teams hammered each other's seven game series and the Oh L. Championships. I think it was a double overtime in the tournament is well in the Round Robin and then that game the bill Armstrong capped off to win the Memorial Cup. What comes to your mind right away. When you think of your Jenny's days you know what it gives me this kind of confidence knowing that you the players I played with I it's like a a lifelong love after that and I you can reach out to them and you might not see a guy for ten years in Vienna puck drop in Oshawa and is like you never lost a day. I was on Friday night. One of the guys Organized one of those zoom videos and we had ten guys from our Memorial Cup team thirty years ago on their way. It went three hours and we just kept on can of other guys and send the link and they join in in. So there's guys coming in and out we had Yen Frazier we had Brent Grieve. Paulo Hagen Job Zillow Jared Scalding Mike Craig Bill Armstrong. Jp Davis Corey Banica Trevor. Mcivor like we're trying to track down Freddie but we couldn't get him on that night that's awesome. So what did you guys do? Just rip each other for three hours. Straight old stories new stories catching up if felt like we're on the team bus. You now going up to Cornwall on just killing three hours on the way so it was It it just brought back a lot of old good memories and catching up and seeing where guys are now and what they're doing so yeah. Did you ever run Eric? Lindros in practice all that that would be a very silly maneuver. I wouldn't even contemplate it. I remember seeing that guy in this first couple of games is because it was such a big deal and like he lit up some poor kid from Peterborough behind their net in our Oshawa. Barn and I swear he did two and a half flips before he hit the ice. And I'm like this guy is a beast. Oglethorpe out there with skills right. I couldn't believe it when he would scape past the bench. You could hear like actually his skates cutting through the ice with every stride is such a powerful guy so I always had Being one hundred and eighty two pounds that I was I always had to take a smarter. Approach to these guys so I remember one day though. He came down on one on one in practice and he was. Kinda holding it way back to trying to get me to bite on the total drag. I wouldn't I put my stick out there by maintain body positioning and then next thing. I know I feel. He's taken his hand off his stick and put it around the back my home. It and pulled me down forward visit. That was his reach. Like I couldn't reach. That puck behind him but his arm could reach behind my helmet. And pull me down and walk around me. So I'm like okay. That's tragic didn't work. The drawing board. Just push you out of the way. What do you recall from that Memorial Cup? Winning overtime game. Bill Armstrong Scores Overtime. Oshawa BEADS KITCHENER COPPS COLISEUM. Thousands of people there thousands watching on television. What do you recall from that game? I tell you it. It comes in little snippets of memories. Because I think you're so focused. You're you're so physically and mentally done after that long season that you just Kinda go on autopilot and you know just let the training Kinda take over and and really hope for the best but it was always a spirited contest against Against Kitchener that year we went full seven games just to figure out the. Oh L. Champion Overtime in the Round Robin and then in you is going to be a big game and I just remember the puck being on my stick and then being off my stick and just kind of going out there and do my thing I to this day I find it difficult to watch the game. 'cause I'm fearful that might have a different Different ending and yeah so I kind of watch and I don't like watching video of myself that much. I'm not I'm not a big Fan. So yeah that loved about that game first of all I love the Oshawa in kitchener in one thousand nine hundred ninety. I mean these were two elite level teams so that hockey is great. What a loved about that last game the Memorial Cup final is how there were so few penalties called. It was only a couple of penalties. Do Remember who. The referee was of that.

"Colby it will also be in our show description that you get with this podcast but that gives you a couple of avenues to know where to go and the other thing I wonder Jeff do the authors consider retiring his number twenty six that he wore in the American hockey league in Bakersfield I. I think it's something that they may talk about. It makes perfect sense because of the impact he made and you were telling me you have a good story about not only is impact off the ice but his impact on it. Well it was interesting too. Because he's an undrafted player. Who made it to the NHL. We mentioned you know. Perseverance and his hard work determination. All those things that go into making a great hockey player and guy like cave worked for every single inch of ice he ever skated on. You know there's a wonderful story with the Boston Bruins and there was one game in particular. So he's playing for swift current has an overage or the play against left bridge Jojoba. Cave is centering. Jake debrusk you know. That's that's two thirds of that line. Jake has three goals and assists that night but all the scouts come away from the bruins scouts specifically come away talking about. Colby caves to wave play and how they have to get this guy into the organization and it's GonNa cost them a contract But they're happy to do it. And he became that guy that once he got in the organization Elliott automatically. Everybody cheered for because it seemed as if at every single level this guy started at least around or near the bottom and worked his way up and when he finally got that. I call up the Boston Bruins. It was like a great big organizational. Cheer because this guy was loved and he's someone that and you saw the outpouring from players guys that have skated either with them or against them. This is someone that you could not not cheer for Colby Cave Again. Our condolences to the family and the Friends of Corby gave. This is thirty. One thoughts the podcast. Welcome to the PODCAST. Geoff miracle on Elliott Friedman. Thanks so much by the way for sticking with us through this entire situation. Hopefully as many of you have already tweeted in this podcast. can provide some type of. I don't WanNa say distraction because I don't think that this is a podcast where he wants to distract people away from the realities of their life or at least give people something that they can listen to Give them a chance to maybe take a little bit of a mini brain vacation at times as raw going through quarantine and all the other challenges that we're facing right now and We have read your tweets. We have got your messages to Texanol them. And we appreciate all the things you're saying about this podcast and Elliott Amel and myself Just wanted to thank you from the from the bottom of our hearts for sticking with us and this podcast who this challenging time coming up on the PODCAST. This week you'll hear from Nazem Kadri of the Colorado Avalanche. We sat down with him last week. You'll also hear from the CEO and owner of Hockey Tech Inc. former CEO and Co owner of the Florida Panthers do Segal but joining us. Now is Craig Donaldson. Craig Donaldson was a hockey player. But Dr Craig Donaldson is doing something much more challenging and more important so Monday afternoon I get a phone call from you. Elliott Jeff. Craig Donaldson is coming on. Oshawa generals defensemen or more importantly working the front lines in the fight against covert Nineteen Elliott. Setup our guest. We'll we'll talk about that in a couple of seconds but there is a story. I always remember about Craig Donaldson and Craig played on the Oshawa Generals Memorial Cup team in nineteen ninety. He was a defenseman and after his time in the. Oh l. was done. He came to the University of Western Ontario to play hockey for the mustangs. As all great people do they go to the University of Western Ontario? And My last year Western. I was the editor in chief of the student paper and we an Craig was playing for a coach by the name of reg. Pigs Reggie exit coached with Mike Keenan before in the NHL. He took over because the regular coach was on a one year sabbatical and when the year was over and reg was going to go back to the resume the rest of his life. Someone at our newspaper wrote an article saying that the previous coach should be fired and read should take over because reg was a much better coach and we published it and the next day the first person to storm into our office to complain about the column was Craig Donaldson at Defenseman for the Western mustangs Dr Donaldson. Do you remember your anger and fury at that story now. You're really testing my memory here so I do recall the situation. Let me say I have the utmost respect for both the red shakes and Berry Martinelli. Both great coaches reg had a unique touch with the players. He just he out the ever raised his voice once his life. He just Kinda reached you in the mind and got the best out of his players. So I think there was a cohort of kind of Some players on the team. That might have been talking outside of the dressing room and kind of got to you guys so. I just really I just wanted to set the record straight and You Know I. It didn't feel like a fair article and true or not. I don't know if it was your article. So that's why I contested it. I just remember Jeff If you got on the other end of that Craig Donaldson Stare. You felt very very tiny I well I wouldn't call myself in intimidator but if you get me worked up on something I'll I'll definitely speak my voice. Well the the one thing that listen that story and Dr Donald Tonight just want us to call you Craig but Dr Donaldson. First of all. Thanks so much for joining the podcast and second of all. That story does not surprise me because Monday night. I had a conversation with Sherry Bassin. The legendary Sherry Bassin I says what can you recall about Craig Donaldson and he said You know. The one word that comes to mind is conscientious. And he's absorbed in being the best everything this guy does. He's game seven about. There's nothing casual about Craig. Dolls and everything he's invested in. He is in one hundred percent. Is that true or false about you? Well first of all from Sherry Bass in. That's the highest honor because it's one of the first guys that really can help to mould me into the adult that I am now. Sherry was instrumental in in kind of constructing that Memorial Cup team in my third year so the first two years he was around and then he moved on to Sault Sainte Marie but All of the guys on that team pretty much handpicked by Sheer Bass and so. We owe him a lot. Bass was I would say He had a very theatrical way about him and he had a good way of getting his message across. I would say the brought in the bass into the dressing room when the team needed A major attitude adjustment and He was the guy to give it to. There's a couple famous speeches that I can recall verbatim. And he was. He was probably five foot. Seven and if whatever's whatever's listed on his stats takeaway two inches and that's probably the real deal. But he was. Let me tell you you did not talk when Cherry Bass and was talking. One quick thing on unsure as well. Elliott you like this one so Sherry tells me that Craig Donaldson whether it's on the ice and practice whether it's in the gym like this guy worked harder than everybody. You know that one. Guy Elliott on the team that set the bar for everybody. That was Craig Donaldson and sure we're told me said the only way I could ever piss off Craig is I would walk by him and say Donaldson. You need to work harder and all the other guys would laugh. And and Craig share your right Sherry. I gotTA remember that Craig. Yes I do I remember like Holy Crap. I am like killing it in this. Gm and Bass is going around bad now for me. I tell you I guess he knew how to try to get me to go to the next level but I was always a guy that loved to prepare. I love to be ready for a game. I love to be ready for the season. I was very much into fitness back then and I could not put on a pound. I think in the final game of the Memorial Cup. I think I waited at one fifty nine. I know I know. Don't believe the stats lines. The one eighty six. It's very misleading from central scouting. Let me tell you you know Dr Donaldson. One of the major reasons jeff and I wanted to have you on is to say thank you. This is a challenging time. And you are doing God's work and you'll fill in the blanks but from what I understand. You're working on call emergency room and you also work at two senior care homes. Is that correct? Yeah that's correct Elliott So I currently work at headwaters. Emergency Room headwaters healthcare center in Orange. Bill it's great little place to work a real tight knit unit of people in a great community so It's been great working there. I'm I'm doing I still do. I'd say ten to twelve shifts a month that they're on a regular basis a little bit more right now and now I've also picked up to nursing homes In in the local area and I found it really rewarding work as time goes on and I I've got good camaraderie with the seniors and care for them. So it's It's it's a really good can element of my practice right now. What would you like people to know? I mean we're being asked to social distance. You know as somebody who sees what's going on every day. What would you tell people about the importance of social distancing the importance of following the rules? And what you as a medical practitioner. Who's right there think that people should know. Well I think you know as tough as it is. The social distancing is imperative right now We know that this virus spreads if we give it a chance and you know from the healthcare perspective. We are ready for this. We are trained for it. You know this is. This is what we do x number years of You know Education after high school to be ready for this stuff. So I'm not concerned about our ability to deal with the actual virus but it's more the capacity issues that kind of scare everybody so I encourage everybody to can follow the social distancing guidelines and just kind of. Let's stay within the capacity of our health care system so that everybody can have the best chance of getting through this. The other thing I wanted to ask you was. There's a lot of a lot of this is going through a senior care facilities in you work at two of them first of all. I think it's incredible thing that you are stepping up to help their. These are some of our most vulnerable people and they need help. We all have parents we all ourselves. We'll go through this. You know what would you say about working in those particular places? And how can we do our best to make sure that those people are safe? Well it's really is upsetting to me because you know they are very vulnerable. And they're kind of all in one center. It's difficult because it's almost impossible. Once we can have get over this first wave even and Tried to protect the seniors until there's a vaccine because they need a lot of care they need a lot of workers coming through when Kind of we. Lighten up on the social distancing. There's going to be a little bit and another surge and it's going to be really difficult to keep this out of the nursing homes. Despite best efforts best practice best testing so I fear for them but I see the government is is kind of actively making protocols. And we're following those protocols protocols being a medical director up at one of the nursing homes so you know it was instituting even before March break before the government was making postings we we decided to shut our doors towards visitors and let the let the families. No because you know these. These people don't do well with a visitor so it's not. It's not a great option. But it was the only option at the time and families were on board with that. I'm I'm glad for that. The government is now putting out a lot of Kind of protocols increasing testing they're they're increasing supplies and making a priority..

"Me explain air because i have to go to the brake now in soccer gene as best as i can explain it in soccer the offside rule is no offensive player can be behind defensive player before the ball is plate to him you know what i mean so if you're one of the strikers if you're running up the field and you want to score for a goal in the guy with the ball way back behind you was about to pass you the ball you cannot be behind a defensive player before he makes that pass now that's not the case in hockey in hockey you can be anywhere on the ice is long as you're not over the blue line okay the blueline is what separates the the neutral zone from the offense of zone in the offside rule in hockey is that nobody can proceed the puck into the offense of his own over the blue line but once you were inside the blue line anybody can set up anywhere so you know a here's the difference if a defenseman in hockey falls asleep and he's not doing his job job staring at the check with the big boobs in the stands all right what you do it i know i was occupy what good hockey players do is they set up behind him they sneak in behind him and set up right in front of the goaltender and they're going fast to me past me best me and somebody passes to them and they put the puck in the net you can't do that in soccer when you're in the offensive zone they're in the defensemen on on on the defensive team is staring at the check with the big boobs you still can't sneaking behind him that stupid there's no goalscoring a r i gerald's on hold two six seven one oh two three gene what are we take a short break we'll come right back in the get back into the phone calls and we'll give you some updates on whether trump.
