"Or <Speech_Female> <SpeakerChange> <Silence> <Speech_Female> Canada to <Speech_Female> play games here. <Speech_Female> This seems like <Speech_Female> it could <Speech_Female> especially impact some of the <Silence> Blue Jays top rivals, <Speech_Female> right? <Speech_Female> Yeah, I mean, it's <Speech_Female> hard to say because <Speech_Female> obviously <Speech_Female> there was players on the Yankees <Speech_Female> that <Speech_Female> were not vaccinated last <Speech_Female> year, there could be players on the <Speech_Female> Red Sox. So we're not vaccinated <Speech_Female> last year. And so <Speech_Female> it's unclear <Speech_Female> how <Speech_Female> many are on each team <Speech_Female> and maybe we won't <Speech_Female> really even find out <Speech_Female> until those first games <Speech_Female> happen in Toronto. There's <Speech_Female> also still <Speech_Female> a long enough window <Speech_Female> right now that players <Speech_Female> could decide <Speech_Female> to get vaccinated. <Speech_Female> I think in the case of the <Speech_Female> Red Sox, there's been some <Speech_Female> stories that <Speech_Female> a lot of their players have <Speech_Female> decided to get vaccinated <Speech_Female> and one of <Speech_Female> the motivations was <Speech_Female> to play those games in <Speech_Female> Toronto. And so <Speech_Female> I think it's still kind of unclear <Speech_Female> to say how <Speech_Female> much it'll impact <Speech_Female> opposing teams <Speech_Female> until we actually see <Speech_Female> those games come because <Speech_Female> there's still enough <Speech_Female> of a window that players <Speech_Female> could be in <Speech_Female> the process of getting vaccinated <Speech_Female> <SpeakerChange> now. <Speech_Female> What if <Speech_Female> the Blue Jays <Speech_Female> had to say about this <Speech_Female> whole thing and <Speech_Female> whether it could be <Speech_Female> a competitive <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Female> advantage for them? Yeah, <Speech_Female> it's interesting because <Speech_Female> I think <Speech_Female> that the Blue Jays <Speech_Female> themselves have been <Silence> a team that have <Speech_Female> been <Speech_Female> greatly <Speech_Female> impacted if not the <Speech_Female> most impacted team <Speech_Female> during the <Speech_Female> pandemic because <Speech_Female> they obviously could not play <Speech_Female> at home for all of <Speech_Female> the 2020 season. <Speech_Female> They couldn't play <Speech_Female> at home for <Speech_Female> more than <SpeakerChange> half of <Speech_Female> the 2021 season. <Speech_Female> It's a big day <Speech_Female> for Toronto sports <Speech_Female> fans, the Blue Jays <Speech_Female> are back in the city <Speech_Female> for the first time in <Speech_Female> 22 months <Speech_Female> because of the pandemic, <Speech_Female> greeting them <Speech_Female> tonight 15,000 <Speech_Female> <SpeakerChange> fans as they <Speech_Female> took on the Kansas City <Speech_Female> Royals, and so <Speech_Female> they have <Speech_Female> gone through their <Speech_Female> fair share of disadvantages. <Speech_Female> I <Speech_Female> think from this <Speech_Female> pandemic. And so <Speech_Female> the way that <Speech_Female> they're viewing it is these <Speech_Female> are the rules and we <Speech_Female> had to follow the rules <Speech_Female> that <Speech_Female> Canada laid out for the <Speech_Female> last two <Speech_Female> years <Speech_Female> and I think <Speech_Female> another way to view it <Speech_Female> is, of course, if the <Speech_Female> Yankees aren't <Speech_Female> bringing a full squad <Speech_Female> to Toronto, <Speech_Female> yeah, <Speech_Female> maybe that is a home <Speech_Female> field advantage for the <Speech_Female> Blue Jays. At the same <Speech_Female> time, the Blue Jays <Speech_Female> have had to <Speech_Female> be very cognizant <Speech_Female> of who they could add <Speech_Female> to their team. <Speech_Female> They couldn't necessarily <Speech_Female> add anyone they <Speech_Female> wanted if a <Speech_Female> player was not <Speech_Female> willing to be vaccinated. <Speech_Female> It was something <Speech_Female> that they had to <Speech_Female> be aware of, <Speech_Female> more so than any other <Speech_Female> club. And so <Speech_Female> <Speech_Female> yes, I think that, <Speech_Female> you know, you could <Speech_Female> view it as somewhat of <Speech_Female> an advantage, <Speech_Female> but I think <Speech_Female> really it's <Speech_Female> kind of just maybe <Speech_Female> baseball karma <Speech_Female> working itself out a little <Speech_Female> bit, just given what the <Speech_Female> Blue Jays have <SpeakerChange> had to go through <Speech_Female> the last number of <Speech_Female> years. Finally, <Speech_Female> Caitlin, somewhat <Speech_Female> along these lines, <Speech_Female> as you <Speech_Female> wrote this team will be <Speech_Female> hitting a pretty big home field <Speech_Female> milestone really soon. <Speech_Female> On April <Speech_Female> 8th, the Blue Jays <Speech_Female> will be playing in <Speech_Female> front of a packed house <Speech_Female> at roger center for <Speech_Female> the first time since <Silence> 2019. <Speech_Female> Given <Speech_Female> all the expectations <Speech_Female> for this team <Speech_Female> and how long it's <Speech_Female> been since they've <Speech_Female> had a full house in Toronto, <Speech_Female> what do you <Speech_Female> expect the <SpeakerChange> atmosphere <Speech_Female> to be like at that game? <Speech_Female> Yeah, I think it's <Speech_Female> going to be really <Speech_Female> special to be there. I mean, <Speech_Female> I was obviously there when <Speech_Female> they returned <Speech_Female> to Toronto at the end of July <Speech_Female> last year. And though <Speech_Female> the stadium <Speech_Female> was

Bryson don't have jacob with us here today to celebrate a huge series against baltimore orioles but it is another huge series against an opponent for the blue jays that they need to win. They take three or four as we record this now. There are officially tied for the first wildcard spot with the boston. Red sox by the end of tonight could be a three way tie including the yankees for two wildcard spot or by the end of tonight they could be alone with the red sox in the to card spots will see what happens but quite the weekend for the blue jays and a lot history along the way bryson. How're you. i am doing fantastic mark. This is two straight now. Series wins where we haven't been with jacob but we've been recording. We've been having a good time. And yet i mean like this past weekend besides obviously the opening game of the series. We saw probably the craziest double header. I think we've ever kind of witnessed in these last two days or happened on saturday and of course today you know as much as maybe the jays were kind of giving a nod to the nfl for the first day of the season. Twenty two seven final score feels like a football score. I guess maybe that's what was going on but another abomination all we can and runs. And yeah i was about to mention it to but don't look now. They are currently tied for that wildcard spot and things are looking good. They are in officially in a playoff spot for the first time maybe since april or may be the first time of the season. I'm not even sure but it feels great to see them there and You know this is the best part of the season right now with this team and it's the most fun to watch them and they're having a good time. "The Yankees had my brain. What did they have? They don't have anything. So you don't know yourself Romano yesterday. The art director for mad men. They were like, we gotta Jameson ty owns on the IL. We've got all these guys to activate. We've got Michael king, we need to find room for. We've got Domingo Herman who seems ready severino in a couple of Sauron mono's coming up. Steven riding is going to the minor league IL really hurt this team. Can't believe those words came out of my mouth. Apparently it's not a serious injury, but you'd have to think he'd be here if not for that. And so salamander comes in, the art director for mad men in a two two game, all of a sudden goes, I don't like what I'm seeing here. I actually, this is not my color palette. I have to be honest with you. And just gets the first two outs of an inning single single bang bang bang lead surrendered two days in a row, by the way. We said they didn't hold a lead in this entire four game series. They didn't. It's true. They never had a lead. But the first two games completely non competitive, just no chance didn't do anything. Nothing worthwhile. Next two games, booth, Boone puts a three spot on the board in the third game. Does he does that himself? Then a brick Garner hits an all time season turning three run Homer, which would have been a momentum changer for anybody else, not us, Andrew Velasquez error clay homes gives up the run green gives up a run, Chapman gives up runs. That game ends up not close. And it was, at one time, a three three game with all the momentum in the Yankees corner. Joy Rodriguez came out after that and with the side basically, you know, throw it away. Yesterday again, to nothing, Nestor great start, the starting pitching is almost never the problem with this team. Seriously, literally almost never. Every day, 6 innings two runs, 7 ins three runs. This is the New York Yankees. That is good enough to win for most teams in baseball. For this one, that should be just fine. These are not the aces. This is Nestor Cortez junior. 6 innings two runs against the Toronto Blue Jays at the band box that is Yankee Stadium is fine. Leaves the game, Rizzo ties it with a tour on her again, the momentum has turned. You win that game. It's two and a half game lead over Toronto with an easy schedule coming up. That's not so bad. It's not great. It's not so bad. They were at a safe enough place entering this series. All they really had to do was beat Toronto once. All they really had to do. Honestly, you want to beat them three times. You want to get them out of here. You want them to go away, but all you really had to do was be the ones maintain that two and a half game lead. Keep pace with the Red Sox. And if they'd won one of the games they'd still be ahead of the Red Sox, by the way, now they're not. They're basically those two teams are even in the lost column. So they're a game behind again in the.

"I'm Adam Weiner it belongs to Thomas Karen aunt and the New York Yankees have blown a 7 game wild card lead in 12 games. The 2007 mets did it in 17. And they're the gold stain standard of sucking. Make sure to find us on Apple podcast, Google podcast, Spotify, wherever you get your podcasts, drop us a 5 star review along with the mailbag question. If that's something you would like to do, we'll be happy to answer it on a future podcast. Yeah. For everybody who said I was being too alarmist when I said the Yankees to watch after the Blue Jays and they were about to get swept, if they didn't clean their act up, there's a sweep without a lead held. Didn't hold a lead in four games. Haven't done that since 1908 in a four game series at home. 1908, long time ago. Haven't done that since 1908. That's how bad this Yankee team currently is. I got alarmist twice this year. I said the Yankees were about to get swept in a four game set by the Red Sox at Fenway after Chad green, blue, the first game, they vastly outplay the Red Sox in that four game set and still lost three out of four because of Red Sox BS magic. That's what happens at Fenway. Then I said the Yankees had to watch out for a sweep here and they got swept. So in games where I predicted the Yankees would go zero and 8, they were combined one in 7. Dunk on me, I guess? One win out of 8 is good? Great, one and 7. I said, oh, it ain't one in 7. Thomas Karen, welcome to the podcast. The cushion is gone. The season is not over, but when you lose Jonathan Lewis, I got Garrett Cole briefly and James and tayo in a couple day span and your offense can't hit might be a problem. Yeah, it doesn't help the morale. But even so, I think something is still wrong with this with this Clubhouse or just the organization. I don't know. I don't know. What are you talking about? What could be the problem here? I'm not surprised. I don't care. I mean, I do care because it sucks, but I'm not shocked. I'm not like, I can sleep. I don't have to worry about anything. Nothing spooking me anymore. We watched this happen for the first four, four plus months of the season. And now it's happening again. And there's no reason to think that a 13 game win streak would have cured all, especially when they were they were pressing all the right buttons and getting lucky. That's part of the game. That's what happens at times. 1908, man. Teddy Roosevelt was president World War I didn't even start yet. The whole moose party, America was polarized. "Game watched in disbelief as one game. One one game to one game three one game for especially the garrett cole game. That's the game. I think where you're talking about it being the last game where it really sunk in and the sweep kind of sunk in for me there but the garrett cole game was really where it sunk in that you know. The blue jays can make up significant ground here. They can make up two games. If not all four games in the wild card race they would have made up two games if they lost one game of this series. Of course we know what happened. But when they beat caracul or garrett cole himself with the injury that's kind of where it said in for me like they can actually do this gear cole. I wrote this instrument. But i was kind of looking at it as a write off game. It was against you. Know one of the best starters in baseball. And you the stephen matt's on the other side of the mountain so it's not like it's a cream of the crop best starter against best starter. Like robbie reagan circle. It was stephen. Matt's against care cole So that game. I kind of accepted to myself that the blue jays can lose this. They probably will lose us to odds are that. They will lose us. I'm when they won that game. It was kind of like okay. This is crazy we can do this. They can get through this series with picking up. Ground the yankees Where did you stand on that. Garrett cole game what were your kind of your expectations going in and i guess a blue jays were helped by the injury a lot they got garrett cole after less than four complete innings but man. I was surprised watching that game. Watching the blue jays have success. Yeah and i think if you go back or anyone listening to go back to relax. And i think all three of us actually said the same thing about that That second game in terms of okay. The jays our predictions are gonna take real four. And if they're gonna lose a game it's going to be the garrett cole game and i think all of us kind of understood that now at the time i guess to talk about more i think at the time for me personally..

"Still have an important four game series. And you have to make the most out of this as well and you go back to yesterday in particular the baltimore. Orioles helped out the the jays yesterday with the late ending. Early game. Rally over the yankees. I think that's something that no. Nobody really predicted that was going to happen. And of course. Cleveland helps out the jason's while they beat the red sox. Eleven five so the jays get some help yesterday. They make up some ground as much as it doesn't look like that on the standings as much as it should because the jays gain a couple of games on the yankees who are now only half of game ahead of the red sox and that first wildcard spot because i believe at the beginning of the week and are about two games so as much as it doesn't really show up. The jays made up some significant ground this weekend and they can't stop and they have to continue this throughout the the rest of the season. But we already know this and we're gonna see what happens as well this week in new york right. That's the big thing like even a week ago. We were saying the yankees were uncatchable that the blue jays would just have to catch the red sox and now like the red sox and the yankees are essentially tied like yeah the yankees have won game up but for all intents and purposes there in the exact same spot in the standings and the blue jays for them it's much more advantageous to be trying to catch the yankees and the red sox. 'cause they have seven games against the yankees including this four-game set. So you know we can talk more about the situations and what might happen. But if you take three or four in this series i know. That's a huge ask. You're talking about the yankees who are a good team. They won thirteen in a row at one point even though they are foreign six in their last ten games. They are good team. But if you take three or four from the yankees then in the worst case scenario you're tuned a half back of the second wildcard spot. Depending what happens with the red sox. In the best case scenario you are two games back from that second wildcard spot so you can see the situation unfolding where you're going into the final two three weeks of the season with only two and a half games to make up including a three-game set against the yankees. So it's very possible if you come out of this series with a big series win that the blue jays can make up that ground being the conversation until the final weeks of the season the one sticking point in that potentially is a seattle mariners because they are the one team now officially in-between the blue jays and the wild card spots because this series with oakland as huge as it was to pick up those games on the keys and the red sox it was even bigger to pick up those games on oakland itself. We officially passed oakland in the standings. It's only by one one. Hundreds of a percentage point in the standings but we are listed officially above oakland in the standings so essentially tied. But you know just because we've had to less games in them and have are. Each of us are eleven games over five hundred effectively. The blue jays have a better record than them anyway. The one sticking point is seattle. Because that's the team in the way and they've won five in a row they're hot. They're six and four in their last ten there. Three games back to the red sox three and a half from the yankees so there are a game ahead of the blue jays. So that's the sticking point in this plan that you're laying out for the blue jays to make it back into the post season and make it back into contention but it's still very possible and you look at how this team is playing right now..

"One hundred fifty one of section one thirty eight. I'm your host mark collie as always joined by my co host pricing and jacob and we couldn't be talking about better series for the toronto blue jays. Sweep the oakland athletics. How are you guys. Great to be here. What a weekend. Pretty much topped off by amazing. An amazing comeback. Twice on friday and saturday and sunday just pretty much complete games from the jays great performances from both starting pitching the offense back. I mean i guess we were right. It took caceres against the orioles to get the bats going a good home featuring a couple comebacks once again and as predicted the j. Sweep the as and somehow or you know somewhat back in it in the wild card race so here we go. Yeah person you were right all along driven i they would take two of three and even i thought that was overly optimistic. I wasn't too certain that that would happen. But bluejays sweep. It's kind of insane that we're at this point in the season and they have some tiny shred of hope that people are hanging onto and got to be honest. I'm kind of getting back into it. The how are you jacob. I am beyond shocked about what the heck happened this weekend. I'll take it. i mean this was. It's definitely making things a little more interesting and now this new york series is very very interesting. I think it's three games. Bluejays are three games back. The yankees are excuse. Me four games but still you could be within bar you could take the yankees or overtake them. If you win but one thing i will say. Give a quick shout out. I am three. And since i've been allowed to watch the games at work so for those of you. Who are betting on games. I will be watching every time. I show up so little thing there but yeah anyways overall very very good series offense. I mean you look at these games. I think there was maybe fifty runs between the two teams in the three games. It's ridiculous and you know what it's making september a whole lot more interesting for this team. Think the final stat was twenty. Nine runs total for the blue jays. Over the course of the series Not sure if that's right 'cause they scored eight of course in the sunday game. They score ten in saturday's game at eleven in friday's game and of course friday's game was wild one but jacob Just on that note even if the blue jay sweep this series will still be a half game back to the yankees but still like. we're nitpicking. Your that still awesome thing if they sweep this series upcoming against the yankees. Bi friday night's game was a wild one of this series and at one point in that game. It looked like the season was over because everyone knew going into this series..

"Is going to be and Yeah there really. Isn't anybody else i told you. There's about two guys. Not even maybe just jordan romano who you have complete complete utter confidence and in terms of closing out a game for this team so i mean that's the way it is. I'm just saying to what a story would be The can somehow get back into this. Of course it's still possible but basin we already. We went over this already. It doesn't look good but of course you can never rule anything out in a. It's funny too because you talk about a strength of schedule you talk about an easy schedule coming up. You talk about easy games and You know this is the trap series for the jason get swept by washington and now this weekend. I'm not sure how confident. I feel against a team. Like detroit either way. Because i know you're at home but look with jesus did in washington and it's kind of funny too because it it turns out the jays weren't the only ones Pretty much this week with a an easy match up to i guess blow at earned terms of disappointing at its finest so the padres of course they gets what by the rockies the reds also gets wet by the cubs or lose two straight and the phillies lost to the diamondbacks last night. There was a tweet of that that just came Came out but you know for a team like the jays who have all these opportunities ahead of them. We talked about at the beginning of the year. The schedules the hardest in baseball. Yes and all the sudden it turns into one of the easier ones down the road but it's easier said than done. These guys neither games. We swede literally went live about this yesterday before the game happened in washington where i said a sweep was the only outcome of this and it turns out completed a complete slap in the face back to me because it was a suite. We got you left. It was for the wrong team. And now when you look at it your four and a half games out. So that's why. I i'm not sure what else to think of. Of course you can't rule anything out. Of course people are going to watch and be excited. I mean you want to a reason to watch as well we'll get someone hernandez and who is completely Was the story of this road trip in terms of keeping this team somewhat afloat trying to keep or trying to do anything they can to kind of keep the steam alive and he goes to for forte homerun in double. I mean obviously marcus semi also homered. I mean those are guys that have tried to keep us alive. We we we know about the simeon. Had the go ahead home run today and the pitching couldn't back it up so i mean it's been the same story all year. We'll see what happens. I guess as we head into these next series is as we close out the month of august. September there's lots of baseball left but you're going to have to rely on a lot of teams to lose on top of expecting jails to win these games so that's where we're at right now..

"To watch. I'm still going to cheer probably gonna lose my voice a couple times watching any of the potential comebacks that we see but it it does. I think come with a bit of a the realization that yeah this team. It's probably where the two thousand fourteen was where it's still fun to watch. It's still a very exciting. There's definitely huge upside and there's a lot of stuff to come. I think are probably a world series trophy within the next two or three years but as of this season way too many things have to go right and for that reason as shark tank would say i'm out on them all right. Well there you have it not a great picture from us and what's gonna happen with the blues is there is a best case scenario where the blue jays make the postseason like there is still a chance because you oakland slumping. You got that series against oakland. Maybe they come out. They win two of three of those. You picked up a game on oakland you start rattling off a few wins. You get hot a little bit. You put up that whatever was twenty five and fourteen twenty five and thirteen stretch. That gets you in the conversation for those last few series against the yankees so blue jays. Second last series. This season is against new york so that just goes to show at the end of september. They could have the potential. I know you were saying you think the yankees are going to be squarely in that. First wildcard spot but bluejays could have that potential. Take that spot. In the last few days of the season there is a world where that happens. It's just everything has to go right. You gotta get julian. Mary weather back in the majors. You gotta get ryan burrow back in the majors. You gotta get george springer back you know hopefully only missing twenty games. You've got to win that series against oakland. You've got to win all those series that you have against new york you've gotta run the table in the next few games and you can't afford to keep losing games like these to the washington nationals of all team so like that things have to go the best possible way over the next forty three games in order for the blue jays to make the poses and and the odds of that happening to me are five percent and that's why i am on this season. I'll be pleasantly surprised. I'll cheering my heart out. If the blue jays make it to the postseason but the odds are so incredibly slim. That i'm not gonna pin my hat and hang my hat all that so So many people as you alluded to brazen blaming a lot of these games on charlie montoya. It's nothing new. We come here every week. And we say the exact same things about charlie montoya just so happens that he rolls out in a happens to happen in every single game where it seems like you can blame charlie montolio and i don't i'm i'm just fed up with it like i'm fed up with people blaming charlie montoya for all these mistakes If you have a good bullpen. You're gonna look like a good manager if you have a bad bullpen. You're gonna look like a bad manager at some point. You have to stop making excuses for the guys that the blue jays have in their bullpen. There's no one to throw. There's no good pitchers in the bullpen. To brad hand. Good to trevor richards who screwed up before. You don't wanna go to brad. Hand good adam. Silver who put some guys on base ahead of brad hand who loaded the bases previously before brad hand came in and that seattle series and walked in the winning run..

"I don't know if you guys feel the same way but to me it's over like if you lose two games to the washington nationals and fall five games back of a wild card with forty games to play like you're out of it there. There's no chance and on top of that. You lose george springer for the remainder of the season. I know last episode. I said that if springer goes to the ten day. I l at all even if he comes back immediately after those ten days. You're done this year. And looks like springer could be out for the season so i stand by that assessment. I think they're done and i hate to say that. Obviously i don't take any joy declaring the blue jays dead. Because i am a blue jay fan. But it's as simple as that. The odds of you going on a run in this situation without george springer to me. It's slim if not impossible and you look at the numbers for like you said jay take up for making the postseason The blue jays are probably going to need at least ninety. Two wins to make the postseason. That's what it's looking like right now with the yankees surging you know. You got oakland slumping. You got boston's lumping but right now it's looking like ninety two wins. The best forty four game stretch of the season. They forty three games left before the end of the season. But the best forty four game stretch that they've been on this year is twenty eight They have to win. Twenty-nine winds to get to the end of the season. And make the postseason so and you're looking at doing all that. They're george springer if he's on the injured list with the momentum that the team has right now i just don't see it possible. I mean the the best forty four game stretchable bluejays have had this season with george springer was twenty five and nineteen. So i. i really don't see it as possible if you've got to win. Twenty nine games including some head to head matchups against oakland against new york. That got seven games against new york left. Four games are three games against oakland. Like i just. I don't see it as possible. I don't think the blue jays can do it. And it's unfortunate. But i think they're out of it and i'm willing to write off this season so definitively for you guys do you think like are you in or are you out on this team. Are they sticking around and do they have a chance or are you. Kind of the ship has sailed for you. You're done with the blue jays air because they'll still watch games. of course. i'll be cheering for them. But i i really do not see that happening. Listen it's tough because you go back and forth. While the i i've been going back and forth over is not of course. Here's the thing i'm not going to. My expectations are pretty much zero. I'm going to make it clear to you. Guys there is zero however is the do they still have a chance. I of course they do. They need a lot of things to go right..

"So that's why you hope. He's back hopefully friday at the earliest. Well what's look forward to what happens from this point on because like you said people are panicking. Some people are panicking. Some people saying days won't make the postseason panicking. Maybe that's an honest assessment as we stand now for enough games back to the second wildcard spot there two games back of new york one game ahead of seattle like you said five and five in the last ten sixty three and fifty four overall the postseason odds for them on fan graphs. On baseball reference on fivethirtyeight they're not crate fivethirtyeight and fan graphs. Both put it around thirty one percent chance to make the postseason thirty one point six percent on fan graphs. fivethirtyeight doesn't do decimal point social thirty one percent. You look at baseball reference. It's a bit better. Their forty four point three percent chance to make the postseason. That's a one day improvement of seven point six percent from what was at the start of yesterday before that loss that wind to seattle story. But you look at the eighteen. The change over the last seven days negative eighteen percent so they've lost eighteen percent chance of making the postseason over the last seven days just based on their bad run against seattle and against los angeles Maybe this is a hot take. But i think george springer goes to the injured list. The blue jays have no chance of making the postseason. I think they're out of it if that happens because like we've said he's so essential to this team and if you lose him not only. Is that a huge impact off the field. His impact in the clubhouse his impact on momentum of the team. i think you're screwed. If you lose short springer for to the ten day i'll even if it is really just ten days. I still think you're done and i hate to say that. But i think this is huge phil bluejays and i already think to be honest. It's a longshot is yes you have thirty one percent chance. According to these websites before and after games is a lot to make up yes you have a month and a half left of the season but this is different than the division if your four and a half games back in the division you have those head games and yes. The blue jays have had games against oakland. They have a couple games. Left against the yankees..

"And jacob power guys doing all right mark Not the greatest weekend for the blue jays. But you know they're still in it somewhat you know. Some people have different feelings on if they're still in it or not. But that's why we're gonna talk about it today. Yeah it was a doozy of a series over the weekend. We were talking about that. La series didn't go the way you wanted. You got to come out and win. Two of three against seattle and then seems like seattle. This year's tampa bay rays are the blue jays always have trouble against the raise. They're still having trouble against the raise but just add seattle to that list. They lost two of three. In the first series they played against the mariners. Now they lose two or three in this series against the mariners jacob power. I wish i was better weekend series for the blue jays and funny enough. Their record is actually pretty bad against the seattle mariners at not safeco field anymore but in seattle the record is under five hundred twenty seven forty or something like that so the the seattle takeovers not always the most enjoyable. If you're looking for wins but they needed wins this this This weekend they didn't get it. And well i got one point is. I'm not as happy about the series. As i wish i could be your the one win. They did get. Who's kind of like a last ditch effort like at that point. You have to win this game and we talk about must win games all the time but that one really felt like a must win game if you get swept by the mariners when you're in the playoff race you're trying to make the wildcard spot and then if you swept by them the mariners are going to overtake you in the standings like that's just disaster if they win that game so thankfully the blue jays polo with the last one. Let's talk about the worst loss of that series. I and it was of course game one. The blue jays are tied to heading into the ninth inning. They try to score in the top of the ninth breivik flare tags on a foul out at goes just over the first baseman. He's called the play. There's called safe at the plate review. It he's called outlawed. People have an issue with that view in the bottom half of the inning. Adam cimber comes in have his has is kind of first or second rough outing as a blue jay. You bring in brad hand. He walks a guy with the bases loaded to lose the game When we talked about disaster that's just absolute disaster for the blue jays. He can't throw a strike against jared kalmyk. Who's hitting like one fifty league. Is the number one prospect in baseball. But he's also not having a good year in the majors a. I don't know that was just absolute disaster..

"And i'm not saying i completely agree with it. I'm just saying from what i from what people are saying. And i'm sure everyone kind of knows at that. A lot of people think this is a fraudulent team You know it's it's tough to say there's a lot of factors that come into play but they've had a good season so far so that's why i don't want to kind of take everything away from them because they are sixty five and forty nine but yet over the last ten games to eight and the run differentials only at plus thirty three now and when you look at the jays run differential. This is the same story every pretty much. Since april the jays rhonda french has one twenty three plus one twenty three. So it's not even close with the differential but Yeah i. I'm kind of curious to see how this plays out for the red sox. Because i you know if this continues like it can't get much worse than this and who knows how long this keeps up for but like yeah like this series with the raise is going to be definitely a big one for them and if it does keep up you know we could be talking like i mentioned to at the end of this angel series. The jays could be easily a game behind them because right now or even pass them because right now they're only three games back at them so it's gonna be interesting to see how this plays out and kind of how it finishes with the red sox here as we head into the middle of august. Yeah and kudos to. I think it's goldberg sports net. He's been on this whole year calling them frauds. He's never thought that they were actually good as they were in clearly. It's paying off now. You look at the postseason odds. I mentioned a little bit earlier but over the last thirty days the odds of blue jays making the postseason has increased thirty one point nine percent. According to baseball reference. The odds of the red sox making the postseason is dropped. Thirty seven point nine percent thirty seven point nine percent officially now as things stand. They've a fifty six point. Four percent chance of making the postseason. So you'll look like before this week there at like eighty five percent chance of making the postseason and now there are basically fifty percent and they're still in free fall. I mean it is rough. And i mentioned the blue jays now in second place in they at least in terms of postseason odds. It's looking good for the jays there at sixty two point four percent second in the al red sox said fifty six point. Four percent the yankees. Who were actually. I think a lot of fans are really concerned about right now. There are twenty two percent chance to make the postseason. So if that's any indication of the odds of the the chances of bluejays making postseason that's pretty good so you gotta be pretty happy with that But yeah it is tough for the red sox and you mentioned couch warburg. I know he's supposed to be a savior when he gets back is healthy. But chris sale is another guy. "What's you're interested in going back to twenty nineteen because he was at the all site in twenty twenty. There's so much time for things to change. And obviously the blue jays understand their own players. They know their own players. Will these metrics our own scouting reports. They know what's changed. They know that seema. Richardson like you said five. Point seven six. Apparently the numbers are a little bit worse and he's actually been but he's been struggling with his command which is exactly what he relies on to survive. He has had a lot of walks. Five point nine walks per nine innings That's an area of concern for the blue jays. You look at austin mart. He can hit. He has great hitting tools he was supposed to be one of the best raw hitters in the draft when the bluejays took him like you said now the blue jays are coming to understand power could be a problem so you look at these guys. And yes austin martin top fifteen prospects in baseball. Assuming what's richardson. Top seventy prospect in baseball but those numbers don't reflect what's happened this year and jj cooper's writer. For baseball america he tweeted this but in their mid season rankings. Both of those guys were slated to drop a lot in the ratings. So that just gives you an indication of don't read into everything you see on the prospect rankings. Things have changed. These aren't the same players we were talking about before and the last thing i want to say brazen you're saying like if they make this deal. People are going to yell at them. If they don't make this deal people are going to yell at them. Damned if you do damned if you don't situation and you know we saw with brad hand to get to later but bluejays choir brad hand and you know people come out and yell at the blue jays saying what are you doing. This isn't enough getting a guy with a three point. Six era the bullpen. That's not going to solve the problems. And then you go and get. Jose burritos one of the best pitchers on the market. And people go. what are you doing. Why are you out and spending all this money on this guy. He's too good right. he's costing too much right now and it's you just can't win you can't win either way. People are going to hate it if you do hate it if you don't it's a you can't win but bottom line. I think you have to understand that what we know what we think we know about. These guys might not be up to date and the blue jays sure is hell no lot more about them than we do at this point and one thing. I'll just mention quickly. Well two things one. Some people don't deserve to have twitter. Because i look through twitter. I look at the training. "I think you know the guys that we have seen them rumored to be involved with besides the guys they've already acquired on. We gotta rumor earlier today that the cubs are selling harassment. Danny saying that blue jays are in on. Craig kimbrel that someone. They've talked about that someone they've interest in he's obviously of what the blue jays needs a reliever. He is one of the best in the game. He's been doing it for years and years and years Some people argue. He's going to be in the hall of fame. Who knows but that doesn't matter for the blue jays. He's a really good reliever another guy. That doesn't really fit the bill. The blue jays need but apparently they could be interested in an Take it with a grain of salt. Because from john hayman but i'm nelson cruz designated hitter for the twins. Apparently he could be a target for the blue jays. Who knows how you know truth worthy that is how accurate it is but again nelson cruz. Craig kimbrel two guys that we've seen we haven't seen the blue jays on starters besides that one mention of jose berrios from jon morosi months ago. So i'm skeptical that the blue jays will add a starter unless it is someone who's under team control for awhile i if it's a trade and other trade with the marlins say a lot of great young pitching prospects and and pitchers that are already in the majors under team control for a while I'm skeptical that the blue jays go out and do much besides that. What do you guys make of a star with the nelson cruz. Rumor because it is kind of off the wall and a lot of people have not been happy with it. Because i mean you look at bluejays offense. It is one of the best offenses and major league baseball. That is not the weakness of this team yet. Nelson cruz would only improve that. He doesn't even prove feeling because he's a d. h. "The blue jay z. And it's just a very unfortunate situation. I think a lot of people through sports and espn all these other reporters. They've always basically said if you want a good team in canada you have to draft you have to trade or overpay and it just kind of is how it is you know you look at the blue jays. Most of their roster is from international signings or signings our draftkings or something in order to kinda not convinced the player but out of their control. You know obviously you can control if you sign with the team that drafted you but at the same time. They've already selected you so it's just unfortunately with free agency. I'm starting to get a little worried. I was very optimistic and the start of it. Even though even you'll go back to the summer. I didn't think we're going to have a very aggressive free agency. But they said they were optimistic that they would do something. But now as we're seeing. Is you know we thought the the yankees we're going to the blue jays we're going to snag. Dj lemay you from the yankees. Well he kind of you know. He ended up. Going back to the yankees. Even though the blue jays comparably offered him a better amount per year. So it's just is unfortunately we're to seal free agency goes. It's definitely a weird situation to be in because like you said mark. I want obviously the blue jays to be a good team and i think that they they do have the money to spend right now but at the same time. At what point do you draw the line. Saying this is an okay amount of money but anything more than that you know. Maybe it gets player. But it's not worth it in terms of you know the bottom line. Well let's create this like if if the blue jays miss out on george springer like what happens then do they just go all in on like trevor bauer or jt. Romeo like i guess. That's why i'm not totally freaking out yet. Because there's still so many other names on the market like i'm not even pitchers like james paxton. Jay z like these guys are still on the market. So that's why i'm like. It's not the end of the world. If they miss out on. George i get like. That's where i'm that's how. I'm trying to convince myself that that's true so that i don't get too disappointed with the news of springer signing with the mets which i honestly if i'm being honest i it kind of feels like it's inevitable at this point. Yeah exactly i'm not. I'm not panicking yet like you said there are. There is still time. I mean it's not like free or it's not like Spring training and whatnot. Starting next week there is time but it is still just a weird situation. I think the blue jays do miss out. On george springer the fans a lot of them will lose their mind on twitter You know people will say how dare you get us all hyped up for this entire off season and then do nothing as for me. I'm not gonna get angry. Like george springer is a great player..

"blue jays" Discussed on Section 138

"Hello and welcome to episode one hundred of section one thirty eight staking us. I don't know four years to get here but we're finally here as always i'm joined by pricing and jacob power. You guys good thanks. How are you fr- first of all. It's very good to reach the century. Mark it's a pretty big milestone so special episode for sure. And how are you taking great. It's it's it's been a long time coming. It's it's definitely been fun. Well this week we were going to do special episode and then we decided you know. We're kind of rolling with everything happening in free agency. Of course lots of lots of news this week with a couple of guys that the blue jays were interested in signing So we decided just to keep things going. Keep talking 'bout Free agency everything. That's happening with the blue jays so We'll start things off with what we heard. Just a couple hours ago from ken rosenthal. He reported or suggested that the blue jays might be interested in not only signing george springer but also signing michael brantley as well because the two are very strong friends. And we've seen the blue jays interested in springer we've seen them interest in brantley cover ago but we've never seen Both of these rumors kind of intersect in the way they're intersecting now and i mean what do you guys think about the the need for the blue jays to get to outfielders because as it is already we know that the blue jays obviously want an improvement in the outfield. Obviously they have random brisk. They're not happy with. But if they got brantley and springer that would mean taking away at bats taking away playing time from guys like tasker hernandez guys from like lord girl junior maybe if you slide brantley into a designated hitter spot. You're taking away from someone like vladimir guerrero junior depending where he plays whether it's mostly at first base mostly at designated hitter split between the two so it seems like this might be a good idea on paper for the blue jays but it's a little bit flawed in the execution in that it could pose problems on the field. So what do you guys think about this report from. Ken rosenthal yes. I think the same thing that you just said mark this is going to take away time from you know other players whether it be the outfield specifically or you know as designated here i think michael brantley is a good player. Last year he did hit three hundred with a three sixty four basis showing me. He's not a. It's not a bad player by any means. But like you said if first of all i think of george springer or any outfielder comes he's going to take over randall..
