"So Emily, Matisse Kiva Lennox on July 4th, 2021, this 24 year old goaltender. He passed away because of this incident involving fireworks at a party in front of his best friend and fellow goaltender on the team Elvis miss Lincoln's. What actually happened there? So the autopsy revealed that Matisse died of blood force trauma to the chest, but what actually happened, we still don't quite know. Even Elvis doesn't really know the police who investigated it have said the entire time that they believed it to be just a tragic accident of one of these mortar style fireworks just tilting slightly in firing into the crowd. But that police report has never been made public, and they handed it over to the prosecutor's office in Oakland county in Michigan to see if they wanted to press charges. And here we are three months later, and we don't have any determination on that. So what did Elvis do on that night at the time after he learned that his best friend had passed away? Well, he had the unenviable task because he's standing there and the police are saying, you have to contact the next of kin. I ask the officer, can you do it? He said, well, where can I do it? Your son just passed away, but she's not going to understand me. So you have to do it. The Matisse's mom a streeter is back in Latvia. He tracks down her number. She's on her way to work. It's the morning in the Latvia, Elvis asked her to pull over. She can tell that something's wrong. She said, Elvis, what is it? What is it? And I told her. I have no idea how to tell you, but Matisse just passed away. And. She was like me. She says, oh, wait, what? I thought that your son passed away. And then inside of my head, I realize like 45 minutes I was drinking with him. Then I was holding him. He was dying in my hands. So I was kissing already dead body. And I had to call his mom and tell him her son is that..

"Just became this little family unit in Columbus. This past season Emily in 2021, the blue jackets missed the postseason. And so in May, Matisse actually got this chance to play for the lot via national team in the hockey world championships, which was being held back home in Latvia. And Elvis, who's watching back in the U.S., what did he tell you about how Matisse played? Elvis said watching from home, he could tell that Matisse was improving drastically. He looked like a different goalie out there. He had confidence. I looked every single game and wore championship. He was different goalie compared the year before. He was really more mature, his technique was much, much really better. This tournament is being played in Riga and I'm not gonna say this was like a miracle on ice moment, but there's a pretty big moment that happens for a lot being ice hockey because Matisse is starting goaltender when they play Canada, the big world power. And again, laffy is a country of under 2 million people, only four NHL players last year, not exactly Canada, and Matisse plays lights out. He makes 38 saves. Nothing is getting past him, and they upset Canada. And they've beaten Canada for the first time. At the world hockey championship, a two nothing victory. Shut out is always a big thing for a goalie. Shut up in world championship is even bigger. Just imagine this is this young, bright ascending star in the NHL, an affable kid, and he does that. He's just such a local hero..

"So if Matisse was super psyched to join the blue jackets, what was Elvis's reaction initially? Elvis first question was who the hell is this guy? Columbus really took Matisse and I didn't know who is this guy. I wasn't worrying about him, but I was just wondering how this guy came from nowhere. Latvia hockey is so small and so proud and it was just confusing to him because Matisse is in North America, Elvis got his start in Europe. There are paths didn't really cross, but they had a training camp together. They had a national team camp together. And once they got to know each other, it was just instant. For his age, he was really mature. He was more focusing on the hockey and the hard work and on the job. Instead of maybe going to the bar or having a good time. So that was really nice. From that moment, he was like, really my little brother. I want you to take me back here to January 19th, 2020, because Madison Square Garden, the blue jackets are on the road facing the rangers. Why was that game in that night so significant? So Elvis was given the night off and they called up Matisse of Lennox so that he could make his NHL debut. He was going to get his first start at 23 years old. For the blue jackets making his NHL debut, the word was, he was nervous, but hey, he settled in now walk is over. He is a they would mark the first time there was ever a lot being goaltending tandem and Lee history. When Elvis talked to you about that game, what did he say? Well, firstly, Elvis remembered his NHL debut, which was a 7 goal output by Pittsburgh. He said he was so nervous he his pants. And so he wanted to make sure that his friend wasn't quite that nervous and Matisse was. But at the first commercial break, Matisse skated over to the bench where Elvis was, and he just gave his friend some words of advice and comfort. He won he came to the bench. We were talking. I was explaining to him, I was telling that he is good because he's doing everything great. Just relax and just have fun. And that's what happened. With a big stop. How did batis actually play that night? Oh, he was incredible. He did not crap his pants. He had 31 saves and the blue jackets won. And the game is over. The blue jackets have won their 5th straight game and they pour off the bench. To Matisse keep Lennox his first National Hockey League victory happens in Madison Square Garden after the game Matisse was just so happy. In the NHL sometimes teams have this tradition where they'll give a silly prop to the player of the game. And for the blue jackets, it's this like fedora hat..

FBI releases videos of 'most egregious' assaults on officers at Capitol riot

"Today. The f. b. i. Released new videos of what officials called ten of the most violent but still unidentified suspects in the january six attack on the capital quote. The fbi is asking for the public's help in identifying ten individuals suspected of being involved in some of the most violent attacks on officers who are protecting the us capital and our democratic process on january sixth these individuals are seen on video committing agreed crimes against those who have devoted their lives to protecting the american people. Now i want to warn you that some of the video that the fbi released today shows graphic attacks on police officers in one video. A suspect is seen using what appears to be a tree branch to strike at officers. Were trying to prevent the crowd from entering the capital in another video. A suspect wearing a blue mask is seen hitting the face. Bask of an officer at one of the entrances of the capitol and trying to remove the officers gas masks. Another video shows a suspect wearing a dark blue jacket with a walking up the stairs. A that overlook an area occupied by police officers at that time. The suspect is seen spraying something onto the officers and then walking away in another video a suspect wearing a gray and white striped shirt repeatedly thrusts some kind of long stick at police officers and another video shows the suspect wearing a black hoodie punching a capital police officer in the face. The fbi has arrested more than three hundred people who took part in the riot at the capital of those more than sixty five were arrested for assaulting law enforcement officers. But the fbi's work is far from over and bringing the trump mob to justice yesterday the f. b. i. arrested for prominent members of the so-called self-described proud boys. No one's ever known what they're proud of for their involvement in the attack on the capital. According to the new york times quote in the indictment prosecutors accused charles donohoe of proud boy boys leader from north carolina and zack rail. The president of the group's chapter in philadelphia of conspiring to interfere with law enforcement officers at the capitol and obstruct the certification of president biden's electoral victory to other high ranking. Proud boys who were already facing similar charges. Ethan nordine of washington and joseph biggs of florida were also implicated as part of the conspiracy with this new conspiracy. Indictment prosecutors have now brought charges against a total of thirteen people identified in court papers as members of the so-called proud boys and a new us intelligence report shows. Domestic terrorism continues to pose a major threat to the united states. According to a joint assessment from the office of the director of national intelligence the department of justice and the department of homeland security quote newer socio political developments such as narratives of fraud in the recent general election. The emboldening impact of the violent breach of the us capital conditions related to the covid nineteen pandemic and conspiracy theories promoting violence will almost certainly spur some domestic violent extremists to try to engage in violence. "So so there. There's somebody in our league who doesn't really play right who hasn't really played too much. Since the start of the season he was saying that his work life you know has gotten too heavy. You know whatever. So he ha- he is wasting victor hedman so bad. I needed. Defensemen bad yes. He's wasting him. And so i decided. Hey i'm gonna try a trade for victor hedman so i'm just tossing shit. I'm tossing him right. Just random shit. And then i come across china trade. Nick zouqi Oh who was it. The whole. I'm looking right now. Knicks zouqi jordan in cairo and drake. I tried to treat the three of them. The slumping players for victor hedman. One of the top defense in the league I didn't think it would go through but it but it went through. Yeah he can Everyone i guess he just gave up everyone yemen. Everyone was vetoing it. And we'll we'll no. That's not how it started. It went through. And i wasn't paying attention to my phone and then i look at notification from this guy and lee saying interesting trade boys and i was like. Oh what is he talking about. Oh my god. He's talking about my trait. That went through yet ridiculous. And so you know. I knew it was getting vetoed now. Let me veto. It and i was just like oh. My bag is those. I was throwing shit at the wall. Seeing what sticks Man i wish commissioners only votes. That way i can just fucking overrule. I'm gonna make this trade commissioner. Yeah yeah exactly. But i'm fair. I'm fair and you're also. Yeah also i want to say. I don't think that we mentioned it but because i think this happened last week. But some guy tried to trade me alex patrol angelo. Who's all my team for. Perrin said i don't know when he's gonna be back. I'm going to decline it my dumb ass little a week later parents coming back i know oh me in my ass. I don't want to say it's funny because it's not but like everyone in our league was looking to pick them up. When i saw that he was practicing and it just didn't work out. Well we have even stupider by this guy he puts on waivers. Oh yeah he put him on waivers like a day after yeah he put him on waivers a day leat or a day later. I'm sorry it's like yo- why whites. And so i noticed it. Maybe like two hours before the waiver thing was up and i was like. Oh yeah man. I need to. I need to go for it. And i thought you know. I'm i'm well in the standings. I can't even lie so i was like let me let me see if i can get it. No somebody i think. The spot below me. God amon agree. Fucking kidding me so lucky but i can't win man. I can't win. I knew i wasn't going to. Because i knew that there was other people obviously going for him.

"You want a guy who's really gonna help the team produce especially on top line. So i think to taylor hall move fits whether or not it can be done. I i don't know. I don't really know i mean that's the thing as can get done I mean i don't know. But i also i also don't know his value right now because of how he hasn't plane too hot right now. Exactly that's what i'm thinking. Is prices a little bit cheaper. And then you put and keep in. And he's playing on the sabres. He played on what the devils last so his production level hasn't been there has been there for year two so you put them on a winning team. That obviously plays a little bit more defensive. I will agree but this is a team that can put the puck in the net They've had every single game against buffalo was five goals. They had five goals against jersey. Last night you know to against boston well one against balsam shootout and then you know. Even even the month prior seven against boston. Four three against pittsburgh so. This is a team that does score and a score a lot pretty fishing at it. I will say especially for four lines. You add a guy like him onto the team where they're buzzing i. I think he's going to take off. And i should be low for lower than expected. I'll say will you be lower. I feel like because. I mean he has a decent amount of points but only two goals and that's like ridiculous to me and that's why you know i don't know i don't know man. It's definitely good. Thought i just hope it works out. Whatever happens for this team in. I feel like we're finally getting to a point. Where like this team is serious. Where i could easily say that. They're gonna make it really deep into the playoffs. And i wanna say that they're going to win the cup basically but you know losing a guy like lead. That is a lot you know that that's not a small loss in in the least bit. You know know exactly especially. Because that's the captain he's the captain of this organization and he's well respected like every i know i'm not in that locker but you could just tell the level of respect that they have for him you know. It's definitely so stephanie. An interesting situation. I hope they can get something done. But i mean even like looking at the sabers land right now like they have hall on a line with cousins and reinhard he was just playing with On sunday i think he was playing with eichel out. That's right yeah. So i mean about the like so you put hall now on a line with bars l. and possibly everley. Let's say move up wallstrom today. Top line for a couple of games or a couple of shifts or moog you up there like you're looking at some ridiculous line setups especially with a guy like eichel hall so and it would only be for the year because with the way the caps situation setup. They're going to lose them. It's it's the pure definition of a rental like it would be for the season in the playoffs and that's it.

"The what's called The cap situation you know whereas going up by a couple of million every year. Apparently it's halted it now for the next few years so Really unfortunate for teams. Count crunches like the islanders and connects. But you know. I mean certainly definitely is unfortunate but hopefully deals like this with the spn you know. Maybe they keep the The the logos on the helmets for another season or two and kind of just find other ways to make more money but outside of the fact of money Just straight up exposure and you know Just getting the team out on the getting the teams out on the big market. I think this deal is tremendous. I mean just take a look at disney as a whole because they signed a deal with disney basically like abc l. those networks are involved. They have all the rights to them. and look at their streaming platforms like espn. Plus you take a look at know. Disney plus per se. Obviously they're not gonna put sports on that but They just have a big reach. Bigger than nbc. They definitely are going to have a lot more marketing. Ideas or definitely gonna have a lot more More routes to the youth. I'd say and i know me growing up. I stayed on sportscenter like all day every day. And i know there's a lot of kids around our age even younger than us as well that do the same and you know. Nhl of took the back burner because obviously is espn disney are are they are. Abc are they going to push a sport that they don't really have the rights to of course not so you know maybe we'll start to see in nhl show throughout the season. You know them talking about more and more inclusion on sportscenter overall dude. I think this is a great deal. And i think it's gonna put a lot. More is onto the sport. And i almost wish they would signed a full contract with them and not sign with nbc at all. But i get for money reasons and such though have to do that but great deal. Great deal i love it. That's my thing it's like. There's a lot more expo- exposure however. I'm just i'm cautiously optimistic. Due to the huge following that basketball football they all have in how much covers of they get with espn. I'm really cautious about this scared. The nhl is going to be thrown into the shadow of the other. Three big north american sports you know and that the nfl is going to be put together to be on espn. But they're going to be thrown onto like espn like four or whatever where no one has access to it. You know kind of concerned about that. You know what i mean and there. "Ridiculous fat cat affect whatever so speaking of giving people things Something gave me nausea last night and it was the golden knights golden buckets horrific looking those that were quite honestly ugliest fucking things i've ever seen. Fuck vegas fuck. Their helmets fucked their jerseys. Fuck everything about them. Fuck those helmets. Those terrible who thought that was a good idea. Yeah no they were not good looking at all like come on bro. Really like are you okay. Did two year old design that come on. I don't understand what the fuck. I'm a lot more mad than i should be about this. Like i i remember. I thought it was their minor league team. That was getting them and then all of a sudden it was the nhl team. The had it. And i was like wait. What and i the idea of it sounds like it could be dope it the way. That luggage is looks so goofy looks so bad no they just look like shit i. There's you know it's like it doesn't match the gold of their jerseys. I know it looks so out of place the look like some dumb space commanders bro. They're stupid. I saw that on instagram. I literally started crying. I started vomiting and then shitting at the same time. Geez while crying. Those things were terrible. Everything about the golden knights just gets worse. I hate them. I literally. They were getting ripped so hard online. Good who thought that was a good idea. Where do you come from. Who let their let their child design those and said oh yes. Bring your kid to work day here designers helmet. This looks like something. I would have made macaroni in fourth grade. Come on attic especially with the the black jerseys. I mean obviously has called accents on it but it just looks so goofy on it. Do think how much the whole who designed those getting paid. Think about that. that's disgusting. That's a shame. We'll keep things moving here move over to the metro or east now whatever and we'll talk about the penguins and their recent acquiring so i feel like you have a little bit more interested in this than i do Yeah i mean. So they The penguins have been looking for a gym for a while. And then they. They named ron hextall former goalie and manager the fires as the gm now and brian burke is making his return back to the management offices as the president of hockey ops. At on one. I only noticed because of twitter. But ron hextall was the first goalie to score the To score a goal actually the empty net. I've watched the club. I remember seeing it. But that's the only reason why. I know who it is and brian burke again off the commentating type stuff wasn't he on like a sports right. Yeah so getting back into it. I don't know. I feel like they have a lot of work ahead of him. I mean yeah you know it's tough. It's a tough decision for them. You know whether or not they continue with path. They're on which i mean. I guess they have no choice right now. 'cause they're not at the bottom but You know or do they. Try to like started rebuild. But you still have getting malkin and sidney crosby Still kicking so playing. Well so you know maybe try to milk it another year or two but they might be looking not like contenders you know. Yeah i mean. They're not looking. They're not looking too hot right now. Especially in net a little bit of a precursor there but I i i don't know whether they're going to do. Actually see a lot of people talking about it and every every time. Somebody says they always say well. It's never going to happen. But do you think they would. Maybe partways malkin andover crosby. And everybody's talking about it but everybody's also saying that. Oh it's never going to happen but with the amount of people talking about. I feel like that has to be something on their table right. I mean i feel like it's just something that's like so out there at least right now that people that people have a choice but to talk about it true you know it's just like oh my god this is the unthinkable you know So yeah i mean. I don't know if it were to happen. You know. I personally don't think it would happen. But i just want an interesting because i feel like everywhere. I looked everywhere. I heard about the penguins. That's what i heard. And that's what i read. And it's just like jesus dude like you really think they do that..

I mean i think we also forget though. I mean. he's still twenty two. You know. I mean like yeah. He's supposed to act professional and everything yet but like when you're young you're still hot hood. I mean you shouldn't have somebody you learn his lesson. You know yeah. I mean like me personally like in my job right now like i feel like i don't know if it's like a i dunno i. I'd be too nervous to make any noise like that to be going at an assistant coach especially on his team that you've got to so he really your job. Well yeah that's what. I was getting out here. He really has to feel like he's the best. Es line is like. i mean. I think he's definitely here for sure. I'm saying on the t none of the league. Oh well yeah i mean. He's for sure. I well best on that t on the blue jackets who's better. I don't i'm going to their frigging lineup now. Just because i. I mean jones but jones is playing that well right now. He's out. yeah no. I know but i well also i mean in a sense of like. I don't wanna say veteran ship but like being a part of that team. I don't know yeah. You must really think he's just shit though literally just walk in and say what he wants. Show up do. It does what he wants to end. Leaves look like what he wants to. I mean good. I guess you can right. Yeah but another part. It's another funny. Part of the trade. Though is actually a jack russell because nine points in the past six games to that's nuts ron n line. Jarmo Kekalainen on the Dubois-Laine Deal

"Always good when a major newsmaker joins the podcast. He is yarmouk kick elaine general manager of the columbus. Blue jackets Jahmil thanks so much for doing this. And i'm always curious about how deals come together. And maybe more specifically when deals and you know we know that there are other teams out. There obviously interested in pierre. Luke dubois in your mind. When was this trade over. Like at what point did you say. Okay i'm done. He's going to winnipeg jets by you. Gotta do your due diligence around the league and see what the interest level is and what type of options we have available. And we did that. We recommend order and you might make have to make a couple rounds a call system. Make sure that everybody who's interested. Got their opportunity to give their best shot and we did that as well. So it took a little while but You know we came to the conclusion there. After the last game that dubois played that we wanna do this sooner rather than later so we were pretty busy on friday working on that than saturday morning. We we were ready. And and now. We have patrick line and ross lubbock here. One thing that became clear to us on the outside. Is that you and kevin chevrolet off had discussed this for awhile that you kind of both knew that if you wanted to do this there was going to be the opportunity to do it. I'm curious caramel. How'd you guys known that you were each other's potential trade partners. If you needed to be we we had a good dialogue for a while and this is probably the best match right from the start. But as i said we had to do our diligence. And make sure that we've done our homework on every opportunity that might be out there and after we'd done that we return to talks with winnipeg several times and and wanted to make sure that all parts of the trade work for us as far as cap goes cash involved there other parts of the deal that we had to iron out once. We actually does hurdles. We were ready to pull the trigger on both sides. You describe what. It was like thursday night for us. I know what a incredibly competitive person. You are a lot of things. What was it like watching that. And can you talk about your discussions after the game that night. Internally internal talks always internal talks for me and a very serious about that but you know there are certain values that We have within our organization within our team in our locker room and we have a very demanding head coach who never compromised. Those values would never want him to compromise those values and i support him honor percent when he he does his coach in enforcing those values and it came to a point. Where were that wasn't a level of commitment to those values that was given by fearless dubois and that's why he was bent and i support the coach hundred percent on on that decision. Like i said after that. I think there's a little more urgency on our part to get this done and we're happy to move on with the two players that we like even if the trade hadn't occurred on saturday morning to the organization had pure luke dubois played his last game with the blue jackets. And what. I'm sort of getting at was anyway that he would have played saturday afternoon. No no you wasn't gonna play saturday but after that. It's the coach's decision on on all. He wants to handle the player. And there's no need to get into that but There's always a second chances and opportunities to redeem yourself as a player if you make a mistake or don't live up to the values that we hold strong ear but you have to show through your hard work in practice and and how you conduct your business in the locker room and within the team and I'm sure then. Our coach will always give him every player a second chance or an opportunity to show that. He's ready to live

"You're gonna go find another goaltender, but Pinera n- is Panara is such a good player. It's really point David because I think there are package deal. Anyway, I think if you convince won the stay the other will stay with the agents situation, but God panorama so good. So I would probably say Panara, and if I put a gun to my head. They're a Robert says ironically tonight is probably the most crucial game for Rangers. This year of stars win. Rangers will have three first round picks in two thousand nineteen. That's right because of the zuccarello deal if Dallas made it to the conference final another pick. They would have got another first round pick it Dallas one but Dallas didn't win. So. Yeah. That'd be something to grab that third. First round pick a team, that's clearly rebuilding. So a lot of ranger fans need to pay attention to tonight's game. I think you're gonna see a lot of people that arrange your fans watching that game tonight with great anticipation and rooting for the stars. Plus Zubi great story to see him in the conference final. John says what are your thoughts on lung Quist comments about the uncertainty of ending his career with the Rangers? Does this lead way into a possible trade situation or is it just causing? Unrealistic speculation will Larry Brooks talked to him. There was a there was an article from Sweden where he said he could see himself finishing his career somewhere other than New York. But then he talked to Larry Brooks and kind of refuted that and said he has no intention of leaving. Here's the elephant in the room. John his contract is up in two years. All right. So Hank may wanna finish his career with the Rangers. It may not be up to him. Because when those two years are over, and he's thirty seven years old and some of these young kids that are expected to be the next generation of goaltender for the Rangers your given and the Russian who they just signed to a contract, they're probably going to be ready to play. And if so when this contract is up, I'm not sure the Rangers are going to want to resign him because I think these guys are gonna be ready to play sixty seventy games year. So there's a possibility he'll be a free agent. If he wants to continue to play it's probably going to be elsewhere. So I don't look at it as well. The Rangers will probably trade him. I think the Rangers wanna keep him for the length of his contr. Tracked until these kids are ready. And then when his contract is up he'll make a decision by then he would have won over five hundred games. I would think because he's what you know, fifty one away from five hundred. So I would think over the next couple of years barring injury. He'd have it outstanding shot at that. I know he wants to win a Stanley Cup. But I'm not really sure it's going to be up to him. I don't I really don't know how the Rangers re-sign him after these two years are over with the talent. They already have signed under contract in the minor leagues and Wicky or give already on their roster. I would think he would probably have to think about going somewhere else. A lot of people talking about the bad. Call on the McEvoy. I agree that was a bad. Call should have been a major Kevin reiterates. He says, hi, hey, NHL way to blow that call in the Columbus. Boston game that's a game conduct and putting a guys future on the line. Mcevoy should be in the locker room for good. Listen, I agree. Now. I don't know if it affected the outcome of the game. Because there were so bad on the power play. But you would like to see the major and plus mcevoy's pretty important. So he would have been gone for the rest of the game. And this is not going to make anybody happy. I would fully expect McEvoy to be suspended for game one of the conference final. But that benefits the hurricanes that does no good for the blue jackets because then not playing in the game for sure. Tan March Shelby says the line..

"Only to see it get tied by plastic again with his second and you end up going overtime. And it was landed Scott, two minutes and thirty two seconds in the scores. And whenever I think of Gabriel landed Scott, and he's kind of got lost in the shuffle with the avalanche because certainly McKinnon's had a tremendous postseason, and you know, mccart coming in fresh from college. When there's so many good young players Rantanen, certainly Atlanta. Scott kind of gets lost the captain of the team. He was given the captaincy almost as an infant coming into the league. He's such a good player that sometimes not that you forget about them. But maybe you don't listen as high as really you should when you talk about the town on that avalanche team. And he gets the game the game winning goal in overtime. And now we got to go to a game seven for San Jose. And I remember somebody asking me on Twitter not too long ago about the old. Older players on the on the on the sharks. And certainly like the Bruins is a lot more veterans on the sharks and the Bruins than you. Do have say on the avalanche for sure of the Carolina Hurricanes for the most part. You've got a lot of young players on those teams that are really driving the situation outside of Justin Williams in Carolina, those games gonna pile up even to San Jose advance of the conference final fourteen games. They would have played now the stars. And the blues they're gonna play their fair share games as well. Both of them when six in the first round and they got a game seven tonight. So a lot of games have been played. But maybe Carolina sits there and lurking that because of the sweep maybe a little bit more rested in Boston because Boston had to play a couple more games than certainly they get to the Stanley Cup. Final know how many games will San Jose and Colorado have to played to be able to get to that to get that level in San Jose already knows that if they advanced they will have played more games than anybody fourteen and with big with bodies that are a little banged up especially Joe Thornton, you know, how much. Much work will Pete the bore have to do if they revive game seven to just physically get them ready for that conference bottle. But again, they'll have the benefit of playing teams will also be playing a game seven tonight stars. And the blues that's alone game tonight. Of course, the game seven for the avalanche and the sharks will be coming up tomorrow stars. And the blues to me, I said it all along. I thought these worse than evenly played series. Now, we've seen some if not blowouts not one goal games down the stretch. They have mental one goal games. But you know, one team blows the other team out. And then the same thing happens in reverse the next time they play these are two evenly matched teams. It makes complete sense that it's going to go seven games, and I would expect the classic tonight. Now, the blues her home, I believe the blues are the better team..

"He targeted the head was really the only part of the body that was hit by the shoulder of McEvoy. So to me McEvoy should have gotten kicked out of the game should've gotten a five minute major. It doesn't matter because the blue jackets couldn't score at any of the power plays that they had. So it's hard to say that. That was really deterrent from the blue jackets winning the game because granted five and majors lot better than a two minute minor. But when you go four on the power play you can't score on the power play. You know, you hit the blue jackets you out face off, the blue jackets you out shot of the Bruins. I mean, and yet you still lose the game three nothing. I don't think Columbus has a kick coming plus three consecutive losses towards said they were going back to Boston for game seven they do not. He was kinda Kurt in his press conference. And certainly Brad Marchand at the end of the game, very courtesy saw the interview which sports net. It was ridiculous. Don't don't agree to the interview. Then if you're gonna say ten words in in three questions, I mean, you embarrass yourself you embarrassed the organization and the fans want to hear from you. I mean, I think you're a guy that is a bit of a dirty player. You're not my favorite player by any stretch of the imagination. But I'm sure the Bruins fans love you. So to give such Kurt answers to the questions than just don't do the interview. That's what I would suggest any player that if you're going to embarrass the interviewer by. Just answering one or two words to a question. Then why even bother doing the interview in the first place, but with all the talk of four wildcard teams going to the conference final. Now, Boston the second best team in the regular season moves on to the conference final for the first time since twenty thirteen and they will take on the Carolina Hurricanes that you'd be terrific series. As you've got the favourite versus a clear underdog. And we'll see Carolina can keep this wave going and see a Boston can't go back to the Stanley Cup. Final avalanche. Stay alive with an overtime victory in game six over the sharks. Final score there. Four to three the concerning thing for the avalanche. Certainly having to play on the road for a game seven tomorrow, but you had three separate one goal leads and could not hold onto any of them. Because you saw it where Joe skits the first goal four oh two into the second period after a scoreless first and then Vlasic who's been so good for this team defensively. Now starting supply some offense ties it comp. Who's been great in this series? Scored his third goal late in the second period. Only for burns to score with ten seconds to go in that period. The tide again comfort gets a second of the game..

"Round the kid that wants more is gonna come away with it. So that's what I want my players to be the guy that wants it more she'd come away with the puck. And I just thought that was great analogy kind of off the top of said real fun guy, your guy, Calvin I think Peter the bore is a fun guy. I think he's a good guy to talk to really there's so many so many that pouring into my mind right now. But those are the coaches that I think were the most fun to talk to Jack Lemaire was not funny, but he'd very quotable, Pat. Burns was my favorite. Pat was great storyteller. Very passionate very nice to find somebody. That's funny passionate nice. But you can you can make mistakes and not feel intimidated by them by. I'm those are those are the guys that kind of jump into my head that I really just really respect and care about a lot Donald says, hey, Don, my question is for the honors. Do you think the Anders should of made a move at the trade deadline? They haven't played well at all since they didn't go do. Anything in their power plays been awful all season long. They should have gotten a sniper. Well is Lula Morello. Right. So I mean, I don't wanna play the whole, hey, trust Lou thing. But I kind of that's kind of what I'm saying is is that you know, who doesn't suffer fools. He's not going to do because the media says he should sue do something. He's not going to overreact to something. So he didn't see anything that thought they can make his team better. I think he likes the chemistry of this team. He's also looking at the wide angle lens of hey this year. But I I don't want to affect next year and the year after I want to build a team that's going to be good consistently. Good. You know, I don't want. What happened a few years ago under guard snow where they make the playoffs. They they went around. They beat Florida. Remember in two thousand sixteen you know, they lose to tap on the second round. And then make the playoffs again. No, no, no. He wants to build a team that that's going to not want to say dynasty too early to say that but a perennial playoff team a team that could compete for that division every single year. He wants to be the penguins. He wants to be the capitals he wants to be with the Rangers where a few years ago, perennial playoff team that's knocking on. Or for a Stanley Cup. Not just a one trick pony. Like Columbus is trying to be because they've got so many free agents. I mean lose trying to build something long term. And when I saw Lou at the ranger game a couple of weeks ago. I know he's in his seventies. And you might think he's just at the end of the line. He's got enthusiasm excited about this team. He's not going anywhere. And he's healthy far as I know. So now, this is the guy that's here long term. And he's thinking three four five years down the road because I don't think he's going anywhere, and he wants to and if he does he wants to make sure what's left behind his the legacy of putting together a team that can be a perennial playoff team. And I think he's doing a terrific job. So we told you about the important games. Coming up tonight. There's a slew of them. So please get in touch with me at Don the Graca hashtag game has conduct. "The fallout could be everybody just is gone because you might have to start over think of the guys they're going to be walking out the door. You need a goaltender you need a leading score the players that you trade for the the one thing I'm hearing is that the of the of the free. Agents. They got the best chance of resigning would be single. But certainly nobody that you can build on. So you might just see a complete cleaning of the house there. How incredible would that be Chris? Hi, Don in past seasons. The flyers have had late rallies. However, this seems different as it's mostly young players. Connect- key San Heim, Patrick and heart before the injury leading the way rather than vets. Do you agree or is this a last push fool's gold? Well, here's the thing. Sometimes when you make trades, and you move a lot of the guys out of the room that knew they were going to get traded a lot of tension and release comes because you don't have that. When's Wayne Simmons going to get dealt ones? This guy gonna dealt ones that guy getting adult am I gonna get Dell? And now, they know collectively this is the team for the foreseeable future. Kind of brings them together a little bit. I I don't think the flyers are making the playoffs. But we've talked about this before Chris all the things they are doing a giving you a glimpse into the future. And I think that future is very very bright. And why are fanatic says off the top of your head? What is the most heartbreaking loss you've ever witnessed as a hockey fan? Mine is two thousand and fourteen Stanley Cup. Final game five that was heartbreaking. Because I'm I'm doing the pre imposed for that back in New York. I game course was in Los Angeles. And I'm hoping there's a game six back in Madison Square Garden, so I can continue the season and get a chance to work these games that was pretty devastating. But as you guys know grew up a ranger fan of in a group a devil fan. So certainly game seven against the Rangers in the conference final in the nineteen Ninety-four. Certainly a heartbreak for sure that's the one that kind of jumps out of my mind is as the most devastating as a fan. Rich betas, Don, how long will it be before? The Rangers are competitive again and make the playoffs while they are competitive right now, they they never get blown out. But I think what you're talking about is competing for a Stanley Cup. Hey, I think when you consider the young players were given a chance to play Anderson complain a lot he'd been playing a lot hounds come back from his knee injury. You see? "But you know, Pittsburgh's got to win that game at home against them jets and the lightning and this is a gorgeous game gorgeous seven thirty no surprise of these two teams represent their respective. For the Stanley Cup final this. This should be a fun. When this this might be a game. We're Tampa wakes up a little bit just understanding that even though they know they've got everything under control. Make a nice statement going up against an elite team beat him in your own building wild and predator. Same thing wild good. All right, unbeaten in their last seven the Minnesota wild. That's good team. That's all of a sudden turned it around against the predators team. You know, battling with them. With obviously Winnipeg to the time of that division Rangers and the stars from Dallas. Of course, the Rangers just playing out the string, but Dallas needs this game as well. Keep that playoff position live there. I in the wild card with seventy one points, but Minnesota also has seventy one points Dallas three points back of Saint Louis who they beat over the weekend for third place in the central division with the same outta games. Played less the row wins or thirty three for Dallas thirty three percent, Louis. So just shows how close this thing is so message to Dallas kind of recurring theme here on this podcast your home against the Rangers team. That's thinking about the future. Dallas has to win that game. Same thing for the avalanche home against the Detroit Red Wings avalanche trying to stay alive in the playoffs. They've turned it around a little bit. But still so much work to do there out west sixty eight points, three points out of a playoff spot. Okay. They're six three and one in their last ten but they've lost two in a row. You got to Troy. I gotta win that game. So Columbus islanders penguins stars avalanche. Gotta win heck coyotes to home against the ducks ducks haven't been bad. Ducts sneaky good, but you know, what the Arizona coyotes who haven't gone to the playoffs since going to the conference final back in twenty twelve have put together a really nice streak out there west they sit there now six consecutive wins. Eight and two in their last ten there three points out of the playoff spot with a game in hand against Minnesota. So you could maybe throw the coyotes in that spot. And now, the Canadians who are trying to hang onto that final ploughs about they go out west now, it's not the shark tank that it used to be no pun intended with the shark and on this list, but you know, the kings are bad ducks are fading. So there should be four of a possible. Six points on this western swing and it starts tonight against the Los Angeles Kings. But you've seen these teams go out west and they take the kings lightly. The kings have enough talent there that they can beat you. If you're not. Careful so same goes for Montreal too. So slew of games tonight where you call it a must win just based upon the level of competition. It's March now we're not fooling around times beginning to run out. Everybody's now in the between sixteen seventeen games left in the season. You can't squander point. So there's a slew games tonight majority. Almost all the games tonight have team that really isn't a must-win situation because it's not that often this late in the season. You're kinda gifted a chance to points because of where your competition is in the standings at in the season got to take advantage of that. All right. Let's hear from you at Donald Gregg cash tag game is conduct toady Romo. Kind of starts it off with what we were talking about with the blue jackets going all in on this season. What would be the fallout if they missed the playoffs?.

"blue jackets" Discussed on Hockey Today

"I mean, that's pretty good monitored score. But I was after the game was already decided if five too late for twenty four th of the season what a guy gets a hat trick that has just eleven goals on the season. And now twelve and when a guy gets two goals, and he's only got you know, fifteen and sixteen on the year on the road. That's a nice win for Toronto. So good job outta them. Tonight, many games of importance Bruins in the hurricanes hurricanes trying to solidify a playoff spot Boston trying to get that home ice in the first round, blue jackets and devils at the rock, the blue jackets, boy that is an interesting story. Okay. Major topic of conversation on Sunday. I called the Rangers capitals games. All the NBC guys are there and the major topic conversation has been about Columbus can Columbus possibly miss the playoffs for all that they have sunk in at the deadline being all in. Okay. You got a coach this won a Stanley Cup. You got a team that's been a perennial playoff team at asthma. Able to get out of the first round Panara Nebraska got one foot out the door. So you go on you get dangle you go out and get Duchenne you go out and get mcquaid. You make these big splashes for guys that are also got to be free agents. And what would happen if this team? Missed the playoffs. Panara NBA ski all the guys you traded for walk. I mean, it could be crippling to the franchise you'd almost have to let everybody go. I mean that was the topic. I'm not going to mention any names who brought this up to me. But how do you not fire everyone because you put all your eggs in one basket under the pretense that you thought that you're a pretty good team, the division was wide open. All right. The islanders lost a couple of games here. The door's been opened and the team that looks like they're ready to kick it downs. The Washington Capitals. Not the Columbus, blue jackets. Right. Carolina is now in third place. Carolina is a head of Columbus. Pittsburgh is a head of Columbus. If Columbus is not careful Philadelphia is gonna pass them. They're just three points behind. So when you sit in your watch Columbus in New Jersey, no offense to the devils. But Columbus has to win that game. If they lose a game to a devil team. That's obviously thinking about the future that they've been spunky. They ha they hung in Boston. The other night. Lou. In one nothing. But you're talking about a team that's eight games under NHL five hundred. They're playing kids. If Columbus loses tonight or gets one of those, you know, bogus points in overtime or the shootout legitimate concern. Now, they can win the game ten nothing, and they're still going to be concerned around the blue jackets, but this team has lost. You know, got lost four nothing to Edmonton at home. Now, I know Edmonton's desperate, but just those Columbus your home you almost never had a chance in that game. So Columbus is two points out of a playoff spot with a game in hand on Montreal. So there's nothing to panic about they've got one more win than Montreal. They've got three more row wins than Montreal. I mean, Columbus is still in pretty good shape before six zero two losses in a row and those two losses coming after the trading deadline. Gotta get things going here. So I'll be interesting. I think these going to be a fascinating final seventeen games for the Columbus, blue jackets, really because I'm not sure if anybody survives. If this team is the place, really, anybody, Pittsburgh, you know, six two and two in there. Last ten there. The first wildcard they're trying to climb up the standings one point back of Carolina. So all of these teams to be moving forward in the metropolitan division and Columbus with thought would be spurred on by all these deals, and here's another question to that. I'll throw out and and this is coming from John Tortorella fan. I think I think he's a great coach great coach. And I think he's an underrated guy to are..
