Fresh update on "blizzard" discussed on There Are No Girls on the Internet

"Samantha knows, I have one of my favorite games that came out recently the last of us to have featured a woman in the main role, mostly women. Game or two has hated it. They hated it. And they sent death threats to all the voice actors, all the creators. So it's not just like it's the player, it's impacting the player, but it's also impacting companies and games that are trying to show these other stories. And that's just another way of silencing and keeping it no, it has to look this way and very gay kept and if so, you will receive a death threat. It's just very it's a very toxic space. In a lot of ways. It makes me so sad that companies like Activision are so big that they really can, like, what they do can dictate the rest of the industry. And like you said, it's a top down thing. And so we're talking to voice talent. We're talking designers. We're talking women who write about games. They were like, the impact that it can have when a major player cultivates this kind of toxicity and massage me, I think, really knows no bounds. And I'm really hurting to see staffers speaking up, folks within the company speaking up. On November 17th, a group of shareholders led by union pension group, the SOC investment group called for the resignation of Activision CEO, Bobby kotick, and the retirement of two other members of the board. And the letter was also signed by various investment groups, which focus on supporting women across industries and the rank and file staff themselves are really speaking up trying to get codec to resign advocacy group ABK workers alliance recently published a document signed by 500 employees calling for cook tips removal as CEO. They said, we the undersigned no longer have confidence in the leadership of Bobby kotick as CEO of Activision. And they walked out in mass to protest this. And I know that that is not easy. It's not easy to speak up in a company like this. Where it's already been documented that retaliation is a thing that happens. And so kudos to these employees who are doing that. But it seems like we're right now, unfortunately, the board is sticking with this CEO. They said that they have confidence in him. And I think this is where things get a little bit businessy because at a certain point, you know, you have these investors and shareholders in your company and it's like, I can understand why this guy's leadership is not inspiring confidence in your investment in this company. And it's like, like, I agree with you that there are doing some sort of wink, wink, not non thing, but I think that they should be beholden to their stakeholders and the staff who have to deal with this environment that they're cultivating and it's like, I guess I wonder where does any kind of accountability come in? Who are you accountable to? And if not now, when? I think that was one of the most galling things for the employees, but also people who have just been watching the situation is that they seem so out of touch with the statements they released after they walk out like they clearly were kind of not getting the point or purposefully skirting around the point. And then there's a whole I'm trying to go into it right now, but there was a woman who was in charge of The White House communications during Bush in the Iraq War, she was in charge of the women's gaming board there of like making sure that their voices were heard and she was like, she tweeted something that was called the problem with whistleblowing what all this was happening, really. Okay, so you're not really listening to us. Cool, cool. And we've gone over some names already, but there are already those are not the only names of men at this company that have done really horrible things. Yeah, so it is like you said it feels very overwhelming and it's so frustrating. I think we recently did an episode where there's a new survey came out some new research came out and showed that over the past ten years the situation is actually gotten worse. In terms of representation in video games, I think this was specifically characters and storylines and stuff. But. It does feel like a lot and it feels like we are making a lot of progress. And I'm happy to see people speaking up about it. God we're talking about it. But yeah, it's so much work to be done. Absolutely. And I think it's sad that it doesn't seem like a lotus improving. This month, the anti defamation league released a new study that shows that 62% of young gamers experience abuse or harassment while playing games. 5 out of 6 adults ages 18 to 45 experience harassment and online multiplayer games representing 80 million adult gamers, three out of 5 young people that 60% ages 13 to 17 experience harassment and online multiplayer games and 71% of adults online multiplayer gamers experience severe abuse including physical threats stalking and sustained harassment. So precisely the kind of thing that you were talking about dealing with when you were playing in these kinds of games. And again, not surprising, the largest increases that identity based harassment occurred among adult respondents identified as women, black or African American, and Asian American. And so it's just bad. It doesn't sound like a safe environment. And I think given that so many young people are having formative experiences in these environments, these companies owe it to them to figure out a way to foster safety and actual community in the gameplay experience, but also in the companies and the boardrooms where these games get made. It all to me is kind of one big bucket and I really think the industry has got to make some very, very big changes if anything is going to get better. Yeah. And I would like to add on here because I think sometimes this gets lost in this discussion. But you hear in the media all the time like we do games are bad for your braid. It might cause violence. It's actually been a lot of studies that show they can help with things like PTSD. They can have positive impacts. And I know listeners have written in and said, you know, for one reason or the other, I have social anxiety, or whatever the case may be, and I really found this online community, and it was so important for me and this gaming was so important for me in helping with whatever it is. And so all of this is bad and we should fix it. But also does have real, as I feel like we always make this point and I think it's always important to make. But there's real world impacts of these things on your health and on your communities you can form and even how you feel about yourself, so I do think this is really, really important conversation. And I just want to add this because I was looking it up. I wanted to see as you were talking about the board of supporting code tech. And I'm like, so how many women are on the board? There's two. And we'll just recently on 2020. So not surprising. But then on top of that, a new article saying that their solution instead of having him resign is to do a new committee that does a workplace responsibility committee and they're going to watch over the workplace and then talk to the directors who codec as a part of he's a director on this board. So you're like, wait, they're not even looking at why are they looking so far right when the problem is right in front of them? And this is their solution, fantastic. Way.

The Activision Blizzard Lawsuit Could Be a Watershed Moment for the Business World

"So so he. Can you tell us a little bit more about the lawsuit that led to all these employees speaking out. Yes so. The lawsuit is the culmination of a two year investigation from authorities in the california department of fair employment in housing who said that activision blizzard's compliance with the state's workplace protections is long overdue. Now if you look at the lawsuit one interesting thing is that it really starts out with these kind of standard allegations of discrimination in how the company pays permits women and retaliation women spoke up. But that's not really what caught the public's attention california also said the activision blizzard fostered a frat boy culture where women were subjected to constant sexual harassment groping at rape jokes and that one female employees took her own life on a business trip after allegedly having nude photos of our past around with a company holiday party and these are the allegations that we really saw lighting up twitter because they were so shocking and terrifying. And it's worth pointing out that. The lawsuit specifically said that the discrimination was worse for women of color particularly black women who are micromanage and discriminated against in the office do lawsuit also mentions that supervisors were unaware of this culture and at times encouraged it and even engaged in it themselves. Can you tell us more about the role that higher ups played in creating this toxic work environment. Yeah so the lawsuit says that blizzard president j. allen brock was aware of the allegations did not do enough to stop the behavior. Alex afrasiab a former senior creative director of world of warcraft. Also engaged in blatant sexual harassment. He jokingly called his bliss con hotel room the cosby sweet after alleged rapist bill cosby. I talked to employees last week and really ask them. Was this behavior. Modeled at the top. Was it relegated to certain teams and employees are a little hesitant to say that it was one specific area of the organization. They felt like it kind of permeated the entire culture but they won't go as far as to say everything manager knew about it or every executive wasn't

"That's why you see you know when you have these kinds of consumer complaints. You will them see private lawsuits sort of piggyback on the back of right and and it's for precisely that reason because the common defenses that are otherwise available to you you'll be able to know they cannot. They cannot let you. Don't get two bites at the apple. A court already determined That you failed to take immediate corrective action to inappropriate sexual harassment in the workplace. So yes that's it's a big thing and a big deal. And as i think i mentioned this at the beginning but but it's worth emphasizing again. California has demanded a jury trial in this case Not a surprise. Yeah an and i made in the complaint. Which is what i should have known had it. I almost had it almost so well. My final question on this andrew. And i guess i'm glad we haven't talked about it yet. Depending is the big headline that you didn't mention so i don't know if this is part of the suit or not but there seems to be a big headline about you know inside. Blizzard developers infamous. Bill cosby sweet. Is that anything. That's in the complaint. Is this just a a headline. Is this a taco headline. So it's people are talking about it. Where does that come from so it is. It is rather unfortunately spelled the bill. Crosby sweet in this in the night. Oh in the complaint is gonna say the headline i'm looking at. It's not but okay and the no the And so this is. This is paragraph forty-seven so the reason that i didn't mention it. I i mean. I alluded to it. I said there are complaints about particular individuals because to me. This is a much less persuasive piece of evidence than the systematic discussion of the cube. Crawls the game playing the joking about rape. That i mean to me. That's sort of your classic hostile work environment. Paragraph forty-seven talks about the former senior creative director of world of warcraft at blizzard that the company put on a convention called blitz khan and that this person got drunk and hit on all the female employees crossed. The line attempted to kiss them putting his arms around them. In plain view of other male employees including supervisors who had to intervene and pull him off and then His his sweet was nicknamed and again. It's a typo so it says the crosby sweet but it says the crosby's we at at its twice in there so apparently the the lawyer who wrote this must have been like twenty four or something like you know after after alleged rapist. Bill crosby okay. So it's under that broad heading sounds gross to say the least it sure does. Yeah well it makes me happy. I was always a final fantasy. Eleven fan but i'm sure that square whatever studio that is probably as problems do okay. So what are keeping an eye on in terms of going forward. I assume they answer it or or we go into settlement mode like right away idiots possible that that activision will file a motion to dismiss. I mean again. That is typically. What you do as a big inc jessica and it is going to be really really hard on these facts specific complaints to garner dismissal. They will have to answer them. There are a couple of things out here that have not yet sort of penetrated into the you know kotoka who kind of gaming news and one of them that i find really interesting from the legal geeky standpoint is count ten which is a separate provisions of the labor code labor code four three two point six Which says a person shall not as a condition of employment continued employment or the receipt of any employment related benefit require any applicant or employee to waive any right forum or procedure under the california fair employment and housing act or this code so that suggests that there were people who were bullied into signing document that says they would not sue activision as a condition of continuing to work there now. That allegation is made right and again as we know. It's valid to do this in a complaint that allegation is made you know quote on information and belief so they're entitled to take discovery and they are entitled to prove it but it says that defendants required female employees to waive rights forums and procedures as a condition of continued employment. So i very very interested if that happened. Those documents will start to surface and and we will start to see the news of that and again. That's you know we've seen that happen in other litigation like as As things develop with with non compete clauses in the like and and So so i'm keeping my eye on that. And i'm also trying to figure out what the activision blizzard quota system was right. Yeah so those are. Those are the developments that i would look for kind of on the near horizon than at some point. Activision is going to have to file an answer and there will be discovery but activision 's lawyers will do everything in their power to make sure that this is not fought in the public. I suppose i should also say i've seen some things going around. Regarding the fact that activision has hired wilmer hale to defend it in this litigation and wilmer hale is just their their mega firm right. They're huge covington. Burlington coat factory there couple of you know inflammatory. Pieces that say you know. They're they're known for union busting or whatever and we'll warmer hale has done a lot of activision work over over the years and they have of their lawyers right. They have an employment employment law group. And so i certainly wouldn't read anything into mega firm defends fortune. Five hundred company like yeah. Of course they do that. Nephew went argue. That's one of the major reasons or perhaps the major reason our legal system is broken. As in i'm with you doing anything like specially sinister in hiring this firm it. There is no right. Like willow typical wealth rich company defending itself which obviously might be sinister. But but not like that any more so than you would expect for this company. Yeah all right. Well we will keep an eye on that and i'm sure our listeners will as well and Absolutely feel free to to always email us those questions and updates but we'll keep an eye on that Soup if you worked at activision blizzard let us know thank you. And now it's time to thank our hall of famers. Are all time greats. Patriot dot com slash law..

"Come out and support the people in the in the workers the employees of activision blizzard is. Because it's it's typically it's typically not peer to peer misconduct and if that is happening then typically it's not hard to get rid of and i'm speaking in general senses because You know human resources departments here in america are held to certain standard. And you know if something's brought to light to human resources human resources by law has to investigate it and enduring that investigation if something has proven to be legitimate then they have to take action and that's typically a fireable action. You know who you know. If you're you know cat calling a an employee at work you know being a creep You know just just be in a not good dude dude. I'm using dude as a as a a very generalized term. Dude can be a female as well mean. We had all these other developers and publishers. People on social media Extend their support for for these people working at activision blizzard and then in the past week they also staged a walkout the the employees of activision blizzard states a walkout and You know i guess in a in a show an it was a show of. Hey we're not gonna take these this story lightly While some of them may have never been a part of the story Most from what. I've read most of the employees have have banned together Some have met met each other for the first time at this walkout activision. Blizzard is very big company They have hundreds of of employees that probably never interact at all They're just in different divisions one one sides and marketing the other sides in in game development. And then there's a third faction that have just made up of artists that are just drawing doing storyboards. And and then you have your your Your higher level administrators. And so from what i've read most of this Comes about from you. Know middle management and just treating people unfairly Because they don't happen to be men or you know women in video games has always had a head a very oppressive arc. That's the public. Hasn't quite got on board yet every time it seems like every time you see a female gamer on the internet. They're they're getting you know sexual comments in you. Know in the comment section there or if they got a twitch stream you know they got the twitch stream is because they're getting too much of You know negative and sexual feedback and just just because they happen.

"This mtc installed wind just to kill him and just to show them that. We won't take this shit. Which i find amazing you have blizzard actively removing these m. p. c.'s. As i speak the looking to remove the mp sees the quests the items from the game replaced them with of nbc's of item names of a quest names that kind of thing so that is a cleanup job. Things happening right now in blizzard. Which i think is the better response compared to their statements that they made on the day of the release. It's going in a good direction since the most came out. It's been one of the better days for blizzard because obviously everything leading up to this lawsuit coming out publicly. It was oh behind closed doors. No one knew about everyone. Was everyone at blizzard. Just carried on doing what they do. Be in so of having this. Frat boy coach having this unequal equal work environment. And now that it's brought to light. There's a lot of things that can be done about it whether it's the community that help however it's people just looking towards it with an guy. I mean blizzard. Employees literally took a stand. They went out a couple of days ago and they protested. They just did a walkout on blizzard about financial like fan grounds. The harassment side. absolutely everything. they just won't count and protested net low to people who didn't even woke up. Listen joined in low to people who played the game joined in. They did a mass log out on the same day. Because it's more impactful. The people see the numbers like the higher up. See the numbers of the well. Coun- coming down and up. Sal and to people showed their support with the blue hall emoji on loads of post facebook twitter. They show that they support this movement. I just come back to. Its satine for blizzard. It's a sad time for the planet ice as a ho because these games that we look towards to have enjoyment and get from stuff like this and it's not get it's no good luck. So what can we as a community. Subject is going to be a little bit different. It's wow news but there's only one so big news to talk about and i'll let you know about in a second so there won't be any so of a weekly staff. There won't be any you know. The usual things in the podcast. It will just be basically old on this news and this is the there is a lawsuit against activision blizzard by the california department of fair employment and housing. And it's for discrimination sexual harassment. That kind of thing now. This is massive by any Come to lie off to a two year investigation from the state and yet just a two year investigation on activision blizzard and this is not just activision blizzard. This blizzard blizzard as well. This is the blizzard that we will love and stuff the the blizzard that made while all of that has been a lot of investigation on persons within the company and they house so of a frat boy coach as it were sorry there's love harassment around the what place. There's a lot of Financial stuff that has gone on like people get paid enough back on a thing so they have launched a faux scowl lawsuit against activision and we obviously might not know all the details as it goes through. But i'm going to give you some of the points as to what we do know and what we can still have do gumming fullwood as a planet ice as so of you know just being part of a while community any puff of blizzard community. This includes overwatch. Heroes at the storm. Hafstein that kind of thing so the fact that we do know what we do know is the lizard did release a official statement against the these challenges and the very festive fisher. Statement was it was shit tippy honest. It was really bad. It came out as petty aggressive and they felt that they were. They offended that the state would like dad to even investigate them about this of claim. Now this is kind of how it came across. It wasn't so of a would apologetic. They it was just when this is ridiculous. It's completely out of the blue. They've just randomly done this. They have nothing to go on that kind of thing. It's ridiculous because they've had a two year investigation and some people have come forward and you know they'll be they'll be an example of that later on but they followed this statement up by another statement and this is from francis f townsend. who was. I believe george w bush's light secretary of defense or something like that and the statement that she is out is absolutely ludicrous. by the way she's been there for four months and in the statement she states that since she's been there there has been no she's not been sexually sexually harassed aso and that these claims were untrue and in other cases just out side doesn't matter how old you claim is if it's over so of five years ten years is out is fake news. It see no. It doesn't matter anymore. Which is absolutely ludicrous. My at it's not a good look. It really isn't having someone who has been there for four months. Come out and speak on. The entire company's behalf is absolutely ridiculous for four months this investigations begun on for two years and some of these accounts decades-old so ten years plus blizzard obviously been accompanied before two thousand when they might wool and only recent and they became so of infamous after they have made the memo warcraft..

Now i'm still going to be playing blizzard and activision games for the time being until more of this to light in the actual court is being issued for this as well. "Right now. Secondly everybody has their different roles. Every role has different pay compensations. So that they actually give a very well thought out. This pay disparity they gave. Well yeah there is pay disparity. Here's here's the top a upper echelon of the pay disparity and it's all different roles. And so i mean it was lawyer from this brief. It'd be like well. Actually we have three million on the board and you put in one and they'll have different roles so they'll get different pays. So that's that's one issue a half now. It gets worse because an office. When we're stuck to two cube crawls in which male employees drink keke lots amounts of alcohol as they crawl their way through various cubicles office and often engaged inappropriate behavior toward female employees. Also males would walk in hung over and play video games long periods time and. I'll let me backtrack on this one. Because first of all it's a game company. So why would you not play your own games. If that's what they are actually doing so that complaint is a little weird secondly yeah that people should not be talking about female bodies joked about rape. That's people should know better but you know that's what happens. And then they reference this to the jason sherzer work-share salaries revolt over pay which was done in august. Third twenty twenty. And i mean it talks about it talks about that. They're supposedly is disparities. And there is excel spreadsheet. But i can't see excel spreadsheets in this article. So how am i supposed to believe is on face. Value of this is actually true or not. I'm not saying if it's true or not. But if you're going to talk about it actually give me the actual excel spreadsheet that your reporting on. Then how am i supposed to know of is actually true or not. How am i supposed to know if the women are working harder. Better than the men and that's why there's a pay disparity or if it's just a perceived slight anything. They are working harder. And better than i don't know either way so it's another issue. I have with us. Because i actually do. Try to look at all these things that saying that this is actually pretty bad lot of times. I'm like well. I don't know because you didn't give me enough. Doesn't really name any of the parties except for one of one and he seems to be the main culprit of this terrible thing. The main one knee. No one else is really named except for the president of blizzard but everybody else is not named in this. There's also other ones. Defendants have engaged in and continue to perpetuate discriminatory practices regarding pay assignment promotion and other terms and conditions of employees which negatively affect impact female employs. These discriminating practices begin beginning higher. When women were offered lower compensation less lucrative job assignments and opportunities than their male counterparts defendants paid women female employees sniffing the lesson starting pay than their male counterparts at higher. This pattern of practice in violation were continuing the pay disparity continues throughout employment for female employees. Defendants paid female poisons significantly less male male car. Parts after higher this pattern of practice in violations were continuing so apparently there is a supposedly allegedly a pay disparity between men and women allegedly as allegedly. Because we don't know beyond what they're asserting on this also. Another example is female. Employees worked at blizzard was assigned lowered to a low level deny equal pay passed over for promotion despite multiple factors. It's just your earned. One higher rated performance for us.

"Feminist ws into stop saying what traditional masculinity is toxic and talk about the beta male actual weak minded mail as actually talking toxic. This is the one that should be looking out for but when you label actual traditional good masculinity as terrible. You get these types of terrible weak-minded males that don't belong anywhere in society whatsoever. Let's actually move on with this one because yeah so you probably have all so you probably have hold known about activision. Blizzard's controversy well. It keeps getting worse and worse and worse. It's not nothing's sugarcoated it. It just looks pretty pretty bad. Not saying that you shouldn't always out for what the court is actually going to decide on this but from face value it's bat. I usually say wait until the courts decide because this is where we will actually get discovery when you get to the bottom of whoo is telling the truth and not telling the truth because on both sides. I'm pretty sure they're telling the truth and they're lying at the same time because that's what humans do. No human is above. Not lying or exaggerating things. You not mean other the people involved with this as well so that's one of the things. The first thing is that apparently overwatch character just macree was actually named after a current an employee of blizzard that did from face value did allow or did participate in some of these gross and terrible things and now they want the name change after other buzzer report. First of all. Don't really have the name change. Just make it a positive thing. Change it to be what. Jesse macree is an overwatch. Not the human being who cares about the human being throughout history. A lot of symbols have been changed from terrible too good. I will give you probably most ultimate examples. Christianity the cross which basically were the roman empire used as the most debilitating crushing painfully agonizing way to die because you were nailed to across and it took you hours upon hours while you hung from your bones with the nails in your wrists and your feet and it was very uncomfortable. It took a very long time and it was a brutal way of dying. And the christians took it as a more redeeming factor of it and change it into something positive. This is what i'm saying that we don't have to take everything and wipe it off the face of the earth. This is just a very weak minded week will way of saying. I want to deal with this type of thing. The steel with this. Let's move on. Let's use this name to mean something better than what we actually have. The human being can be frail and well terrible and the character we can put the values that we all aspire to be instead. That's how it should be like..

Because if it doesn't it's gonna look bad for them because amd's fidelity ex super resolution is actually pretty good for what they just brought out recently unfortunately have too many games. They actually use this about eight. As i've checked but nam actually said this that there are lease it for more of an open source thing that can in video users can actually use at the same time and so in a way of combating. This invidia said okay. We're only sisters list. Sdk without any restrictions on it because what of amd has done in how the welcome reception to fsr has been for it so this is a win win for everybody especially for the users because game developers can actually use this lot more we can get both see the best of both worlds against the best way of saying you know i lost my truth. Oh that bogeyed. The best of both worlds four this particular tech. I don't mind if fsr is being used or deal. Assess because i do have in video card so it doesn't really matter to me but it's good on all fronts all right. We're going to actually be moving into the very confusing california's c. e. c. proposal. That was put into place. I would say around two thousand sixteen and it fis getting into its tier two thing Specifically targeting computers and it's basically desktop computers and so every the bib hot big hubbub about dell not selling some of their computers to california oregon washington hawaii in vermont. I think colorado might be running. They're a little bit but it's at least those west coast environmental militant states because they are very environmental militant. It's not friendly. It's milton it's very militant to business in general but here's what it is basically mostly about the idol of your computer. They don't care if you're actually using it the care of its item. You walk away from it. And he doesn't really go to sleep which i do have mine. Turn on to sleep mode as well. So i'm not really the culprit. Here is the other people that turn everything off for that. Specifically so is more targeting that is also targeting more the budget friendly type of computers that don't comply with this type of regulation. That's what the big confusion is. all about. The second big confusion is this whole expandability score calculation and there's different numbers for i will actually put this on the show notes. You can actually see with czyz from intel so unfortunately until has well is edits lending. Its i guess. Expertise to this really bad legislation. That just makes no sense. But in general this is not the most troubling one mrs fine because if you build. Your computer doesn't really matter to you. Anymore is really matter at all. because you're building it's more of the tier three. It's coming out. In december as is targeting high refresh rate monitors that no one understands. "You to your stock prices. Tanking right now three. Your games are getting worse for like. There's a lot of things that are not going right for them in. This is just kind of icing on the cake at this point like there's just so much negative press out there towards activision blizzard. That man like. I'm i'm just really curious. What what the future of this company is gonna look like a few years from now because right now. They're this juggernaut. I just don't know how they hold his position of power with all that has gone wrong for them for so long. Yeah and it's there's so much damage control going on right now like even within some of these former employees saying it where you know personally for me looking at everything that's come out. It seems like everyone knew about it. Right like yeah. You've culture there. Yeah like this was straight up culture based and so look. I want to believe that there are good. People working blizzard right and and activision like there are some people who certainly their majority are good. You've let the bad ones get out of control. Saxon and i completely you know. Respect that if 'cause you know look everyone's life is different situations right and some people need jobs. Majority of us do so if if blizzard is your dream job and your game creator and you're working there and you know not necessarily turn a blind eye but also don't put on you know your superhero cape and try to fight the establishment. I completely understand that. And i see some people attacking other people for still playing. Wow or still playing blizzard games or attacking employees who haven't quit or walked out with today's protest. Look that is their situation. That is their life if they feel like look. I don't agree with sexual assault. I also don't agree with losing my job. I can understand that point of view right. I have a family to support or you know. You're single living in san francisco or wherever the blizzards offices in california. And wherever it is it's not cheap because let's be real like a walkout is good that i think that at least sends a message. But very rarely. Unless you're unionized. A walkout doesn't work in your favor. If you keep walking out like the company can and will win on that one from a close the door right from an employment standpoint so and regardless of what situation blizzard is in. I'm pretty sure they have a couple of resumes. Still sitting at their desks to To call out. So you know. I don't i it. It is a messed up situation from all angles. But i also don't want to get on like my soapbox and try to preach like you know what we as a we as a community news just have to change. We just have to Respect people and know people are people in love is love and because like i would like to think our listener base knows that. I don't have to come on here and tell you sexual assault is bad. I would think that most people reading these accusations going against blizzard knows that it's bad and and we don't have to like i don't think society is that far south that we we have to.

There are some Yikes of the week and leading into yikes of the week. Let's follow up with a yikes from last week. And that is the activision. Blizzard sexual assaults everything in between workplace accusations. Going on right now Things have not let up a new. J- i don't know if you've been keeping up with the news but it is all over social media right now. A blizzard has responded in a not so positive manner. Pretty much saying like nah. This is all bs. And we're launching internal investigations and You know we're we're gonna make things right like we're kind of admitting it but also not really accepting it so you know we're working on it. People didn't like that so now you have Former blizzard employees current blizzard employees bigwigs and blizzard. Coming out of the woodworks You know cd. L. teams overwatch. League teams the overwatch lead. Commissioner came out and spoke on it Saying how you know not acceptable right so you even have now. This internal rift between the company today. July twenty eighth. There was a scheduled walkout at blizzards office where majority of employees walked out. So this is really. I don't want to necessarily say like gaining momentum because i feel like the momentum. Is there right like it's it. I don't know how much more this could honestly gain. That would like turn heads because it's already pretty damning but This is not looking good. No i mean it's just like it's it's getting worse and worse by the day because now we're also hearing more people are having. The courage says to step out and speak about their experience and current employees right in so it just feels like each day. That's going by. It's getting worse from a pr standpoint for for these guys in. They're not helping your case like you said all of the all of these apologies that we've seen from like the various different teams across blizzard. Activision first of all to me doesn't show like unification. They're all kind of sending out their own message. Not each message is kind of lined up with one another. Some of them seem more empathetic than others. A lot of those messages are getting bashed at the ones from the world..

"Yeah. I'm Glenn get sink in. Yeah so I think there are some interesting thought there. And I think that's the thing with this whole blizzard and Blitz Chung and censorship thing and religious brought to light the way in which the world is is going and we just gotTa be interesting to bring up and talk about Yeah even though. It's something that's not. It's not specifically spiritual. I think it's important that we keep up finger on the pulse of West Society. Diety is right now and I think it's important for us to grapple with this and we definitely don't have all the answers in this area new new we don't But Yeah I don't know and I think as well I think even the understanding that like I dunno like a lot of the time like this. How money can even influence us is an interesting thing Think about like how the whole reason blizzard censored their own Playa was because they didn't want to lose money on this whole thing and I might man that is so like you know we do see the whole three interests message thing. But I'm like that is so Babylon Babylon to stop. Somebody's right to freedom and to be proclaiming like like their thoughts on freedom for the sake of making an extra buck who I just like. Wow that is the most babble a big of a herd but because because Babylon money and power they go hand in hand. Oh Yeah it's A. It's interesting prospect that I think we all probably need to be careful of. Yeah I mean you know some of the. I'm sure some of the people listening to this podcast business owners and that kind of thing I don't know like how much how much we willing to let money dictate our I. Yeah money and social status dictate decisions. I don't know that's a whole interesting that we didn't really even dive of into but there's so many things being brought to light by this. I guess that's why it's important to look into this stuff. Yeah absolutely so I think that is is probably enough for From us for now. I mean we've really only scratched the surface when it comes to this. And this is sort of the discussion that it's only really highlighting. What's happening in culture right now as I said we don't really have all the answers for all this but I think it's important for us to stay aware of what's happening in the Cultural Zeitgeist? Because I do see that the winds of change are moving. I will say this guy. I have been really encouraged by especially the Internet's response to you. This whole situation because the outcry from paypal just on the grassroots level has been incredibly loud loud and these companies have listened and they have responded accordingly. Because it's one thing to Serve the needs and serve the purposes as of China. But it's another thing when your fan base or your customer base or you know the you'll patrons Say something loud enough companies do. Listen and that's that's why blizzard you know they reduced the ban on blitz Chung. They gave him his his prize. Money back and I think they also shortened the penalty or the suspension on the two castors. I think find them completely. I think they just reduced as like like two months or something. I think six six six months. Okay yeah so I had like income is gone for six months. That's still well sucks wchs. Yeah no absolutely it does. But I'm still. I'm still encouraged. By the fact that evens are the Zeitgeist is moving in one area. Ah that there is still enough power in the hands of individuals like you and me to actually influence where that's going and I think that's a really awesome responsibility ability and I think that we need to take that seriously not just as people who customers of these companies whether you're blizzard customer apple you know you're into the NBA. But also as people of faith. Because I think this really does have interesting implications for our understanding of image of garden free speech and all that SORTA SORTA stuff which a lot of those principles very very Christian so without without going into a whole new podcast. I thought I mentioned that the back end of the conversation. Yeah and I guess that's a whole other thing as well but when you see injustice she should speak up about it even if it's voice online align because it does actually have affected can change things. Yeah and in case anybody wants to know our political stance free Hongkong Long. I hope that Hong Kong gets what it what it needs. I don't know yet. We've never gotten a single download from China and after this we probably weren't. Yeah but maybe from Hong Kong. He knows I don't know I don't know but yeah yeah. Yeah that's that's that's everything that's how thought obviously agree on that political stance anyway but if we would love to hear thoughts on this very very different episodes from fifty but hey it's important stuff so we'd love to hear you talk about it so make sure you get in touch with us on social media or a website and remember for all things been the haystack. "There was. There was backlash for for this. Basically the industry insiders basically have said China pressured blizzard then to ban Blitz Sean and to take away his His prize money and also fire the two castres who interviewed him because even even if they didn't want anything to do with it even if they kind of wanted to remain neutral they still allowed it to happen. I suppose And they didn't really They didn't really tell them. All for you know reprimand him on on you. Know on camera sorry let's blitz Chango band and they took away his prize money and the two castres got fired. And I'll tell you what man the Internet went. Buzz doc just blew up like on everything sword all over Youtube over over like my suburb. It's that I follow and I don't follow anything to do with hostile anymore. So even I sort just everywhere. It was on the front page for like over a week like two weeks. Yeah Yeah I think I think at one point the mud for Oslo read it Slash Blizzard sorry on. Read it Actually do Disabled doubled the The sub reddit and deleted his account in process. Yeah wow for. There was a good day. Oh to where all the modes had to All the remaining modes on slash blizzard had to band together to try to actually get the suburb at back because the hatred. The vitriol levied against blizzard was absolutely palpable. There was a A staff walkout Bunch of employee's at the actual blizzard H Q in a in a in the US in California So there was internal and external outrage all levied against blizzard in the In the wake of this this this entire situation yeah and yeah I was GonNa say something to note about now. You're probably wondering why would blizzard do for this. I guess and it's because I'm basically Blizzard Games are incredibly lucrative in China. Yeah Yeah when when they make money off China when the warcraft movie came out last year the year before I think it was a few years ago now it did really badly in the West But it absolutely killed at the box office in in China Blizzard is partly earned by a a company called. I think ten cent. Yeah Yeah and they are. China Aloe to actually tencent earns a lot of The gaming market it as well. Yeah they earn. I think five percent share in in Blizzard activision blizzard but then in like epic gains which is four. They have like a forty five the censure or something. Yeah Yeah I don't know thank me on that. But it's something like that and they have. They have totally owned riot games and all these gaming companies. Yeah Yeah so anyway. There's a lot of money in gaming in China yes and so we should also note that this wasn't a an isolated event Ada. I wasn't just blizzard. That's getting slammed by. This is actually quite a number of corporations that are getting slammed at the moment over their actions with China. Apple got slammed recently for.

"Blizzard's? Get the latest weather reports right here on KOA NewsRadio to Mark Stein here on the Rush Limbaugh program. Yeah. I I shouldn't have mentioned. I shouldn't have mentioned Gladys Knight. A singing midnight train to Georgia has had an academic stuck in my head that the thing I like most about midnight train to Georgia the favorite line. I if I'd in another world, I would have liked to have been a pit behind Gladys. Knight wanna pips up because always like the line a superstar? But he didn't get far that was my favorite line in midnight train trying to George Talbot of love to have been a pip. I think all hope that Gladys Knight on the show once and he was one about pips the old tuck it out halfway through and said he was too pooped to pip. I can't remember is hazy my memories Hayes anyway, Gladys Knight. I don't mean to imply that I'm endorsing Gladys. Knight singing, the national anthem. She's now a reviled hate-figure. She agreed to sing the national anthem as the first problem right there. 'cause that's like a totally controversial hate anthem. I mean, you crazy singing the star spangled banner, what kind of agent manager you sign up. For that. She agreed to sing this. The hate song star spangled banner at the end to the Super Bowl. And now everybody hates Gladys Knight. Because she's disrespecting Colin Kaepernick. Good careful. This is to go to Rush Limbaugh dot com and take out a subscription to the Limbaugh letter. And it comes in the mail or you can get it digitally or you can get it both ways. And in the February issue. Rush interviews, Charlie. Cock, and you'll know Charlie if you've seen him on television on Fox News, or whatever the guy looks. I think he's like twenty five twenty three twenty two nineteen he's incredibly young. But he's the driving force behind turning point USA, which is this big students organization. These the of campus battlefield how conservatives can win the battle on campus. And why it matters. And actually the fact that he has to explain why matches is a good part of the reason why we lost the. Entry because the biggest structural defect in America today is the education system on which the Republican party. Surrendered basically the whole tough. So they turn allowed and it's not just university. It basically starts in kindergarten. And first grade they basically allowed social engineers to take over the education system, you pay a huge amount of money to go to these universities and be given correct leftist attitudes, which you don't have any choice. If you don't have any choice. I the least they could do is not make you pay take on six figures worth of debt to be taught all the things you have to set. And that's a whole other issue, by the way. Because other countries managed to socially engineer, their kids into leftist attitudes striking for three grand a year. So why it costs seventy grand a year in the United States? Just so a lot of repay shis disgraceful. College loan organizations can get can get rich by lending people who shouldn't be doing these courses the absurd amounts of money. They shouldn't be paying to do those. Corpses says I think I was right with corpses. Actually, they absurd amounts of money. They shouldn't be paying to do these courses at outrageous rates have interests. They shouldn't be paying to the so-called college load moguls who get rich of these guys all all that that whole system has been abandoned by conservatism and rush talks to Charlie cock about it in the current issue of the Limbaugh letter. And you you you should you should read that this this. Stuff is important. Well, let's say something else while we're at it. Again, this attitude striking this Gillette. Add everyone's talked about the Chilean, and I just want to say a couple of things. It's it's weird to me because it is in fact, almost the literal definition of fascism, the corporate state, everything within the state the alliance the alliance between the left and big corporations now to enforce their way who the who the hell is Gillette to tell to to to tell me how to be a man this ad. The Gillette has got the best the best you can be. It's they're trying to get a piece of the meat to action, and they get in show in all these white guys these white privilege guys as we talk about the top of the hour. Who the big problem, and that's not actually true? We've talked about the me too thing on this show. Russia's talked about it Harvey Weinstein used the phony bologna of a liberal, progressive attitude striking ten nail chicks one of the French actors. I think the code I I used to live on TV with a dad a zillion years ago. On the other side of the Atlanta, antwon Dakota. He's a big French guy and his daughter Emma is an actress and she runs into Harvey Weinstein in the south of France. And she says she's really interested in roles for strong women. And so he says, oh, I've got a great script with a great strong women's part in it. It's upstairs in my room. Why don't you come up with me? Well, you know, how that encounter preceded from that liberal men insincere feminists using the phoniness of feminism using the phoniness a feminist attitudes striking as a way to to prey on young women who believe the bologna. That's what went on in the Charlie rose. I couldn't sit food CHA. I mean, I like a nice serious sober. Inter I, you know, I was on the BBC fee is I know what boring television is quite like I've got quite enjoy a bit of. Boring television now, and then Charlie rose nothing. There's nothing. We hall toxic masculinity about him. He was the impeccable liberal male. He's wandering around in a bathrobe. That's open in front of his staffers. Always say is hill. PBS pledge drive two hundred dollars. You can get the old PBS bathrobe, code not included. Where are they in the Gillette? Because that's where all the me. Too stuff came from liberal progressive men using the coffer of liberal virtue, signaling is a way to prey on women. Why aren't they in Gillette? Stupid ad. Why is it just sort of, you know, white guys? You know, why why what's what's up with that? Why is it just, you know, toxic masculine white guy? Cliches men barbecuing you think Harvey Weinstein, evidently zone barbecuing. Why is there nothing for example, like role for him? Oh, they towns in continental Europe where they've had rape gangs, gang rape. The child sex slavery. What about that kind of toxic masculinity? Oh, no, no. That would be coast saw disease picking on guys Eli barbecuing barbecuing guys. You toxic masculinity. It's all it all goes one. It all goes one way. All goes one way another story. I wanted to get to before where today 'cause I did you see this thing about President Trump when he had the guys over to the White House the Clemson team, and he had a thousand feet of cheeseburgers, or whatever it was since they will Diggle. This fact, check wasn't a thousand feta cheese bag is only like six hundred thirty seven feta cheese. Bergers is all this kind of thing. And and then there's people saying, well, these condescending to black sportsmen by saying they can't appreciate anything more sophisticated than hamburgers and the head of some of ill college university of Oxford Baroness royale says she wants to change the culture of the college to make sure it is welcoming for all. So she she had a complaint from a first year student about the octopus terrain that's on the bed. You. In the first year at.
