"Like the greatest. I guess like i would think they would be a lot better because like realistically from blackhawks. Four tomorrow warfare. I would say the grabs quite a bit better like it was less eighty got more realistic. They haven't necessarily continued that trend. This game i think the kind of step back into backups. For so so there's that so. Yeah so a take it for whatever you want. I mean obviously you know we're not. Our channel is not designed or predicated on providing you depth reviews to determine whether or not you should go buy something but you know. You're in everyday gamer. Like we are and the things that i just talked about adder to you and they're going to affect your buying decision than than yeah take it. You take the advice or take. Take all the pieces of information into the account of whether or not you're going to buy it. I mean i will say from a technical standpoint game runs great. It runs great high frames. I don't get any any. There's none of that shit so like so far so good as far as how the game runs inter i had everything on like super high still getting like one hundred twenty hundred and thirty on the blizzard app. Still so you've had issues so yeah so like i said take take that for what it's worth i if you're looking for something purely from a purely technical standpoint like it does seem to run really well so amdi swinging you know throwing knockout punches to all of their competitors somewhat in the last few weeks i mean you know there is five thousand. Series processors have or less dethroned intel in the current generation of best game out there. And it's it's the best game processor and really. It's the best workstation processor too. So i mean you get to things for the price of the one Streamer you're going to stream great. You're gonna encode in and everything great. You're the ob s and everything that because of the multiple cores but you're also putting out youtube videos. You're gonna add it quickly as well and if you're programming or doing any you know super hardcore intense a resource intense application. You're going to build handle that really well too. So you know the rise. Five thousand series are cream of the crop right now and they just released if and they just released their rx six thousand series or i think it's just the six thousand series but it has rx at the front of them so they really radio and six thousand series sixty eight hundred.

Michigan officials call for audit after state certifies election results

"The chairs of the Republican National Committee and Michigan's Republican Party are calling on Michigan's boards of state canvassers. President-elect Joe Biden could name top leaders for his Cabinet as early as next week

"And the president elect is moving quickly to fill out his administration and could name top Cabinet nominations next week, potentially unveiling his picks for Treasury secretary and secretary of State before Thanksgiving. It comes as President Trump continues to refuse to concede and tries to overturn the election results In the weeks before the presidential election. Federal authorities warn that foreign countries could spread false information about the results to discredit the legitimacy of the outcome. Turns out the loudest megaphone for that message belongs not to Russia but to President Trump. Since the election, the president and his lawyers have advanced a blizzard of thoroughly debunked claims that proclaimed that he not president elect Biden was the rightful winner at resulting chaos and delayed transition effort mimics the glow goals of divisiveness and discord that U. It was a passing reference to the presidential election, which I won, by the way, but you know, we'll find that out. Almost 74 million votes. Even as President Trump announced a new prescription drug policy, he repeated his unsupported claims he defeated President elect Joe Biden. In a setback for the president. MacBook Air with Apple's own M1 chip is faster and has better battery life than Intel-based predecessors

"And speaking of that our final blizzard of reviews for probably this year blue in this morning the embargoes for reviews of macs using the new emlyn ships broke this morning. Let me get two of the devices out of the way before we focus more on the meat of the interesting stuff. Which in my opinion is the mac. Air all include links to these reviews in the show notes even if we don't delve into all of them deeply at the verge chris. Welsh says the mac mini with the new ship is a mixed bag. Existing apps run well and the price is certainly appealing but with ram limited bizarrely to sixteen gigabytes and the inability to upgrade that ram and since it doesn't support external. Gpa's could you really run this as your main machine. His conclusion though was mostly positive. Quote spending a few days with the twenty twenty. Mac mini has shown me that it's a barn burner of a miniature desktop. It outperforms most intel macs in several benchmarks runs apps reliably and offers a fantastic day to day experience whether you're using it for web browsing and email or for creative editing and professional work that potential will only grow an apple inevitably raises the rams ceiling and hopefully bring back those missing usb ports. These six hundred and ninety nine dollars. Starting price is tempting but most people will be better off upgrading to sixteen gigabytes of unified memory. Which puts you at eight hundred and ninety nine dollars. Doubling the default six hundred and fifty six gigabytes storage makes that cost climb higher to one thousand ninety nine dollars but even then the price to performance ratio for the mac mini has never been better than with this. Change over to apple silicon. Even if you ignore iphone apps completely transition is off to an impressive start considering just how smoothly everything comes together. And just as ever the mac. Minis flexibility is what makes it special and quote. Also at the verge. Neil patel tackled the macbook pro with the chip and he concurred great performance. Great display great battery life but again why ram limited to sixteen gigabytes and also this kind of got lost in the shuffle of the original announcement but only two usb ports only two period only to on a pro machine guests. I'm gonna be holding onto this last macbook pro with actual ports and sd card reader and hdmi etc until it literally is on its last legs. Anyway knee lies conclusion quote. There are two things to say about the thirteen inch. Macbook pro with 'em one chip one. The m one and the work apple has done to make a difficult processor. Transition seamless remarkable success and to this particular mac book. Pro doesn't necessarily seem like a worthwhile upgrade over the macbook. Air with an m one chip. Yes it offers slightly better sustained performance and a little more battery life than the air. But i would happily trade back. Those seconds of faster rendering time on the pro for the hours of frustration caused by the touch bar. And if you have much more serious performance needs it seems likely that you might want more than two ports sixteen gigabytes of ram and only one external display so. This machine is a twitter. An excellent fascinating twitter buddy between her nonetheless and quote

WoW Shadow Lands Trailer Released

"Just. I watched the world of warcraft shadowlands trailer today as always blizzard pretty much. The only thing they can do correct these days and they do it better than anybody. Are these freaking trailers man. Holy shit they look good. Enough have no interest in the game at all. Tell me about They're really good. They're number twenty. We've talked about this before their animation and storytelling team has always been incredible But yeah shadowlands is scheduled to come out in about a week. And they've patched in they did a pre patch. I want to say about a month ago to the original game Or the current retail-version where they changed they re scaled the entire game. So max level is fifty instead of one hundred twenty. I think it was before. So they redesigned. They redesigned leveling or does basically the systems. They did system System at its. They didn't like build a new world or whatever And the games coming on november twenty. Third it's pretty I wanna say people have higher expectations for this than they did. For previous games or the previous expansion at least The knitted for battle for us. Ross so We'll see if blizzard delivers if they've learned and improved on systems from the last expansion. I think as far as wild goes the thing that the from from my limited perspective on what the community thinks in that game. I'm more of a classic guy right but my understanding of it is that people's primary problems with the recent world of warcraft has been poorly implemented systems. It's not about world design. It's not been about quests it's been about you get to endgame. What rewards are there. How do you obtain them. And how actually rewarding does it feel to play like that Where some people have said that the systems are just haven't been good in this last expansion so based on what i've heard from blizzard. Qna's and their interaction with community. They've taken it to heart and they've redesigned systems so now we'll see how good it actually is.

Immortals Gaming Club Are Getting Out of the Esports Team Space

"Start with a big story. Is you know it's impossible to ignore big numbers. And i'll just give you the headlines of three stories. But they're all the same story. Basically i just i like the three headlines because they all tell a little bit different side of it. The first year was immortals club raises additional twenty six million dollars. The second year was from bloomberg says meg. Whitman backed firm to way sale of overwatch team again talking about immortals gaming club and then the third immortals gaming club raises twenty. Six million led by ex quickly. Exact meg whitman. So if you put all these three together you sort of have all the information. You need witches with immortals calling her ex quickly exact. I mean could she is that that has got to be the most subtle you tag career up until on his business like her. Oh the ebay right yeah. That's better than leading quickly. Wow you're only as good as your last gig. You're only as good as your last exum be. Feels like something. Like as a as a term. Like i would order an like an exotic restaurant like well. I will start with the vegetable three way. Medley have the x. Qube for my main interest rate and goes just leaving puzzled. Sometimes i am puzzled. William by how your brain works that brain that it's such a funny term. So so here's here's what we know from the just the three headlines. Immortals gaming is raising a raised twenty six million dollars. It's being led by meg whitman. Who used to be equipped he also ebay footmen footnote and they're looking to sell their overwatch team. Believe it or not so. They've already got rid of their like previously. Got rid of their Call of duty league team And now the overwatch league team. They're looking to to get rid of it and i'll just read. I'm going to present you all the information guys. And then you can discuss. But it says immortals gaming intends to focus less on city specific teams and more on businesses related to online gaming such as gamers club a subscription service in latin america which connects video game players. The company said last week. It's selling a team playing and activists call of duty league to one hundred thieves And now so. They've sold off their call of duty league team now. They're saying they want to sell their los angeles valley and overwatch team. In the meantime the raid they raised twenty. Six million led by meg whitman. What do you guys make this news. There's a lot of. there's a lot to unpack. You're right the amount. They've raised be That they're divesting of assets sort of as part of this razor almost next to it which you don't usually hear about You guys think jeff. Lindsay william whoever wants to start here. What do you guys think of of mortals gaming club. And the way they're going. Let me go last. I have some some hot takes. Let me last go first. Then let's let's open with some hot takes you're all my take on. This is a little is a little more nuanced. But i think what's really interesting about this announce those two things to read into this. One is a mortals has just not done well as in east sports work right. They haven't won anything. They haven't really built a differentiated brand. They've been blown. Apart in the lifestyle category versus other orbs about the best thing they did back in late two thousand eighteen by gamers club right and make a move into south american marquette. This reads like a real strategic shift into you know gaming services and service provision right. Because you don't. You don't sell off both gated franchises and in particular. You don't sell off call of duty called duties actually starting to perform now like it's unusual to sell that asset unless you are If you're still committed to really making the team piece work so i think an underscore here as immortals you know is going to be getting out of the team space. I think a second thing i would add to this though in the morrison is the fact that they are announcing looking for a sale of overwatch without the buyer. List william razi to me because that is a direct that first of all signals a little bit of urgency right like we're trying to get rid of this asset gimme buyers right because like to be honest with you like like you don't need for an asset like that you know you don't you don't really need to do this sort of thing right like you don't know who the people are who are in the market for this The the second thing is. I think this is like a forcing mechanism with activision blizzard. It seems like they want out of that league and announcing they're going to sell is a really good piece of lever to communicate activision blizzard. Hey it's not working right and also to kind of tip their hat about the seriousness of their frustrations with with that business right now. So that's my read on. This is the announcement of sale is a little tactical. It's partly strategically. They want to divest. And it's partly. They're trying to communicate something to activision blizzard because they didn't announce again these. These are sort of deals. Where like you read about in favor of like. Oh i too could go by that. You know what i mean. There's a limited set of groups and these guys ono each other right like you. Don't you're not going to be surprised by who's coming out by this org slot like it wasn't like come on hundred. Thieves did call of duty right. It wasn't like josie sports club.

"And today we are talking and black eyed relatively new organization that is house right in New York City and is found immediate success in a few e Sports to talk am box. We have Rohit Gupta the co-founder of Chief product officer for a box. I'm sorry about that and we'll cutrone director of communication for an box Rohit. Thanks for joining the show. Thanks for having me at will I'm exposed to have you on the other side of the mic this time actually contributed to the show. Thanks for coming on happy to be here and yeah different different experience this time. It's a little bit odd to not be on the muted one. Now. You got the pressure on yeah. Yep. Yep. Glad to be here. So in addition to co-founding airbox road is also a partner at Sterling Venture Capital where he's worked for the last six years or so, but today we're really focusing on an box. There were the major organizations that pops up alongside the Activision Blizzard franchise leagues. They started with a top-tier team in the New York Excelsior and the OverWatch League before adding the New York sub Liners in the Call of Duty League. I had Mac the New York sub liners rookie on a show a few months back. He talked about how awesome it is to be played for an organization that Embraces New York as such a core level at both teams have found early success of cemented themselves as to AJ Ki tips to the key Brands really going forward about the OverWatch of Call of Duty leagues, but am box also expanded outside of the franchise world, at least for now by signing a valorous squad and she said they're based in America's most psychotic City and am box is closely tied their brand with the streets of New York that includes embracing the fashion world that covers the city a part of a Major Brands like Nike and create a unique collections for an box truck. Is a pro players it also includes the platform Battle of the borough's the first event was held up in summer as eight regions in and around New York field of three person teams in addition to the five iconic boroughs of New York Queens the Bronx Staten Island Manhattan and Brooklyn and box also included Upstate, New York, New Jersey and Long Island to really encapsulate the entire region Battle of the borough's plus a few more enslaved turn this fall as Connecticut joins, the mix in addition to those eight other regions, each event has had a price full of $50,000 and is held in fortnite registration is already closed for these fall match. The matches are set to begin on November 6th with the regional finals of December 13th at the Grand finals on November 20th. So we'll is director of communications. I totally get why other regions had to be included around New York, but I found New Yorkers could be a little bit testy about their Burrows. If you had any pushback from New Yorkers of the inclusion of those added regions like log, I like, Connecticut and upstate, New York. You know, it's funny you say that, you know, I grew up in Queens, right? So I definitely fundamentally understand the the amount of pride that that New Yorkers have when you're looking at a local metro area. I actually think that us going to more inclusive route and in bringing in, you know, Connecticut, obviously this time parts of Upstate New York and New Jersey. I think it actually just adds fuels the competitive fire. I think whether you're from Brooklyn or you're on the other side of the river in Jersey or Staten Island, there's there's always something special about where you're from and there's always something you don't like about where someone else is from so, you know, the the lines have been have been drawn in traditional sports for a while among a lot of different professional teams in New York and different sports package and we kind of embraced being New York see Sports org and and welcoming the larger tri-state area metro area if you will and we thought it was actually pretty fitting so long. We we really didn't get any pushback. I think that everyone was just kind of be here to jump in and compete and so who who was the best Long Island? Obviously one of the first competition so we're excited to see if Connecticut coming in now shakes it up a little bit. I love to see it. You know,

The Birth of the Animal Rights Movement

"Ernest. Friburg joins us. Now he is the head of the history department at the university of tennessee and his most recent book is called a traitor to his species. Henry bergh and the birth of the animal rights movement ernest. Thanks for being here my blizzard. Thank you all right. We have to start with the obvious question because this is not a household name for most people who was henry burgh will he was the founder of the aspca and brought the idea of an animal welfare movement animal rights laws to the united states. Right after the civil war in eighteen sixty six. Your area of expertise is nineteenth and twentieth century. Social and cultural history. It's easy to see why your last book. The age of edison looked at the effects of electricity on society. What got you from there to looking at henry bergh and the birth of the animal rights movement. Well in all my work. I think i've been interested in the way this time period. We sort of called the gilded age. The progressive era into world war one the way this shaped the modern world the world that we live in two books ago. I wrote about the origin of civil liberties civil Free speech rights coming out of world war one. The edison book was looking at are both love and hatred of technology. In this case. I was interested in the way. If you look at a an image of nineteenth century city you see horses and of course. There are many many other animals very closely together with with people in the streets but by the nineteen twenty s. That's not the case anymore. In a sense this you know. Our urban environment has been stripped of animals. One historian described it. As as you know we live in a world where in urban environments at least we only have pets and pests and i thought that that captured that that pretty well so i was interested in that transition and i think the animal welfare movement and henry berg's career in particular kind of captures the beginning of some really profound changes in the relationship between humans and animals that started in that time period ended israeli. Still with us today. To what extent is that that change the decline of animals in urban environments. A consequence of the animal rights movement and to what extent is that. Really just about technology industrialisation. Oh it's certainly all those things. I'm not suggesting that the animal welfare movement itself was a driver in any of this but rather was a reflection of its changing sensibilities and in many cases they welcomed the technological changes if steam engines and electricity could replace the horse. That was good for the horse. As far as the animal welfare movement was concerned. so yes they. They're they're really just part of a much wider chains. It's a way to get at people's sensibilities in this time period. This was a time when people came to care much more about animals but at the same time very technology that you're talking about made like pretty grim for many animals as well. The american city was not a friendly place for animals. Describe what a typical city. And let's just use new york because that is where erg lived. What did near city look like at its peak in terms of the number of animals in the city will think about the horses the motive our for the entire city so everything just about relying on horsepower and that meant enormous traffic jams of carriages and wagons and these these railroads that were really the first mass transportation in the city's fundamental to the growth of cities in this time period but then of course there are huge packs of stray dogs roaming in the alleys idea of animal was really developed during this period animal welfare movement. Lots of people are moving into the city from rural areas. And they're bringing with them their own traditions of keeping a cow in the backyard and chickens and and so forth. Pigs are rooting in in the garbage. There really was not very good sanitation control in most neighbourhoods so scrape pigs were part of the scene so it was a it was an enormously rich complicated and dirty mix of humans and animals in this time period.

Trump says U.S. could start distributing a coronavirus vaccine in October

"The president said the US could start distributing Kobe vaccine as early as next month soon, as it is announced, will be able to start that'll be from mid. October on. Maybe. A little bit later than that. But we'll be all set. So as soon as it's given the go-ahead, they're doing trials as you know, and as soon as it's given the go ahead we will. Get it out defeat feet the virus. Now, that of course contracts earlier remarks made yesterday by his CDC director of those remarks were made to the Senate Dr Robert Redfield said he expects vaccinations to begin in November or December but in limited quantities. I think we have to assume that. If we had a vaccine say released today that it's GonNa take us probably in the order of nine months six to nine months to get the American. Public vaccinated fall out of that news conference edit it is a little bit surreal We'll see. What happens and it is being politicized by both sides one side wants to before the election, the other side. Until, after the. Sick enough but the watching the president. Explain how these? Some of the people at the CDC and others explained that, yeah, I I. Don't think they understood the question I think he was confused. You know it's a hard case. We're getting sort of inured to it but. I don't know want it's going to you know I think we're going to be talking about the vaccine more today the prospect. Curious. Goes talked about this but your own feelings about getting it I mean are you pro nervous? Totally ready I think I I I'd be I'd be first in line I'm ready right now I'm I'm ready to for my immune system I know that there could be some a potential side effects but I think I can I can I certainly much rather have a little spike protein fragment than the virus itself I'd like to get you know like my immune system I. don't I haven't had an I had antibody test a month or two ago and After someone in family months ago. I, have fantasies it. Maybe you know when I had a little didn't feel exactly right for a couple of days I'm hoping I was one of those as symptomatic people and but I have no reason to think I did. CoD League Layoffs

"Let's go. Let's switch gears a bit. Can we talk about? Do Business we call of duty leak and look. It's another opportunity for me to you know rag on them a bit. But this was an article from Dallas News, DOT COM and. And the article, the headline was Dallas Empire partways with three time world champion cloister prior to twenty twenty, one season with the twenty twenty one cdl season moving to a four on four format. The Empire had to make a tough decision. So basically, just to summarize the article next year call of Duty League is going to a foreign four format versus a five on five format. And that means. After winning the call of duty, league, championship the after the empire, which is owned by envy. I believe after they won. Now. They're essentially laying off their one of their if not the star player on their team. Which is weird right while Liam on it's it's we are dessus like this would be like if like three super bowls, the Patriots were like you know what Tom Thanks Take Yeah, you really you really contributed bet they're going to a sixteen and format and. It's weird. Because presumptively look an I'm not an expert on call duty scale, and maybe he is not mechanically as strong in this last season is he wasn't early seasons. If you win three world championships, you're probably pretty good. Seems like a keeper to me what's going on Axel like you follow the Collagen more than like what's behind this kind of bombshell shift? Yeah super curious stuff. Obviously the context of this to everyone's kind of playing from home. Everyone's kind of navigating through all this cove stuff. So everything's Kinda different in general I think there's a lot of fun tangents we get into call itself. I'm sure you guys have explored conversations of of of of free to play versus the yearly model which I think is the hardest thing that games like Halo and call of duty of had to overcome the fact that they're used to releasing a game every year for sixty bucks. How does that work with the East sports? Ecosystem. If your game is constantly changing, you're expecting a new pro seen to arise from new game every year versus other games like starcraft, which has been the same, which will which will be the same versus other games that are just completely free to play and only have updates every. So often likely legends and fortnight so. Ton Nick into potentially there but at the end of the day. This roster move call of duty in in closed her the constant changes. I think there are always going to be tough I mean just the fact that this change is happening with the League, the roster changes having to be made it clearly didn't seem like there's a lot of heads up given to players and teams, which is a big deal when it's such a massive franchise chef, the vestment and big deal for so many people so. Yeah Dude I'm Kinda of be Willard about this as y'all are I was mentioning earlier when we were talking for the show the fact that. We see a lot of east sports teams with like really nice. Really good subs in, and that's the thing that gets me with this cloister comes into this team's veteran As a leader to his players and I think that obvious first of all they they release a lot of their comes and it's pretty clear that places leader these guys not only that he's older than these guys and he's had more titles. I'm sure. I'm sure all his teammates would say the same thing. So I feel like I would have loved to see some capacity were still involved as a power sub on the team because guys in east sports it's not just going to be these this roster verse Dash Roster All. The time. We're GONNA have teams that throw in a sub in game two maybe they throw on a seven game five they're on their specialist in game one so on and so forth. So I kinda get confused when I think about that dynamic is like how do you let go of this guy when he's a leader? He's one of the truest veterans of the scene is clearly skilled and you have the potential ever power sub who can still be a leader for your team. So there's a lot of questions there for me. I answer that question for you because I think, I know what it is I. Can I mean Paul Area? Oh I have a theory you better have. Your theories probably going to be the same as my theory I mean. This this is like cost-cutting, right? The like these teams are all burning prodigious amounts of cash. Call of duty Lee activision blizzard. Done much on the Economic Split Front I'm sure right I guarantee you the honest messaging from activision blizzard. His guys were not expanding this year. You know don't bet on any increase in dollars coming in from the league. Three three next year. But so so the very simple they look at the roster and they go who's the most expensive player it's our oldest guy three time champ like. But he's probably the highest player and they go. Well, we killing and the reality is, and I'm totally speculating now I've never seen this guy's contract but I'm expecting a lot of these contracts are done to in once right two years plus one right so he's played out. It's a free break. There's no penalty fee for it. Maybe some other guys are in the I truly suspect it's economic. It's either that or there is such a radical change coming to the game beyond the four four format Matt that. Like the seniority and the expertise disadvantage that they believed that the new game looks so different from the old game, they don't want to see the game championship but I I wa-. Today all. You can't tell her every. Rose. Re Stone grows off.

Call of Duty's Gunsii Talks Change from 5v5 to 4v4 and RosterMania

"Less than twenty four hours after everyone Chaffetz activision blizzard announced the. Four for the next season, which changed from five five to forty four. Now, this is a bit of returned to its roots colored duties sports a four before was how everything used to run but what that change happening gear with no expansion beyond the twelve ts CDL suddenly, twelve spots for pros have disappeared at the highest level the change to forty four reserve the controversial. So players Ford Southern gutsy. Where do you say that change? honestly it's a, it's a very huge change I. Remember growing up being younger watching for before and then seeing the expansion five and an amateur scene that kind of got everyone's hopes up because they it being bobby five there's more spots there's more opportunities there's just there's just more to it. Now going back to forty four it's just a lot of competition. I thought I thought last year in the amateur scene. There was a lot of good talent out there and a lot of good anyone can be picked up this next upcoming year. But how it went back to forty four, it's going to be gladiator. Definitely, it seemed like a lot of teams defaulted to who some of the old guns veterans who've been call of duty for quite a long time this I hear the CDL but we also saw a lot of rookies. You saw the empire shots Utah Mac for the New York subletters really turnaround that team belt midseason, Y- There's value in having some of these young players you know people might recognize some of the big names but having young players having that young energy has shown to be really successful for a lot of teams. Yeah I agree one hundred percent I see a lot of the older people, all the people that commute competed saying how people always forget but I think there's just a lot of talent emceeing that you just have to take a chance like. There's just so much talent out there. There's so many people unknown people that don't get that chance. It don't have the connections to get to the next level, but they have that potential night just feel like if more professional teams take a chance on the obscene or brought more spotlight that it can just show like the potential we have in here. Absolutely you know previous success is not necessarily an indicator that you're going to continue being graded a game call of duty is just a game that changes each year at East sports in in all people just fall off at a certain point you gotta be make sure you're bringing in the young players, the people that could really source the seen few like the teams that are having the most success because if you could just grab a guy that was great on optic for years ago, dot com out any particular. Maybe. But that's not necessarily going to be great CDL. So you have to make sure that you're up-to-date with WHO IS THE BEST Of the youngest of the upcoming right now, I mean it has been a while since we've had new players like into the scene lake. I personally feel I. Don't personally feel but I, think it's time for like a new generation of that would make sense like I'm not calling them old but. I don't know I don't know where I'm going with this. No I. Think you're right. I talked about this a little bit with Mac on the show is that there's sort of a changing of guard first of all word the CD L. wherein entirely new eastward structure we've already seen. J.. Cap Who is one of those guys who's long time success retire we saw Karma retire we saw you know. Empire wins the championship at its. cloister that they drop waster. I can kramer clay for a second but yeah, they drop Claes who's now a three time world champion at keep the rookies keep some of the the other guys that. So it's feels like there is a bit of a changing of the guard. It's just up to some of those team managers to be like, okay we're gonNA take the chance on somebody who maybe doesn't have the pedigree but has the skill, and then they could start just you saw with Mac is hey, does it take long? If you start having success, you can start building your own brand. quickly.

What Is Ormus

"Or miss. Is. Actually, kind of a known entity. Yes. A non-proprietary term four miracle serum, Gu. I've already said when we mentioned Ormuz before every time I said, I want to say almost because I'd only ever heard that term in the video game Diablo two by blizzard, the makers of world of Warcraft, and also you know the world of sanctuary, which is where the abloh takes place a one of my all time favorite games just in case you haven't played it. It's amazing. There's a character named almost lives in the city of traveling call and he refers to himself in the third person and he sends you on and stuff. You. Know speak. To. Office. You have questions for homes, US and doubt in yourself. But that is neither here. Nor there one fun thing about Diablo's that as you would pick up various weapons and staffs and stuff, you would learn little terms that you wouldn't have learned elsewhere. So I learned a lot of vocabulary and history in playing the album to and it. Just, never looked up or missed to find out where his name came from. But feels now like it's kind of appropriate because or miss is as sort of ill defined miracle Goo. Different companies and different people will sell. We are in particular going to be talking about on new alchemies. ORMUZ. In this episode and a couple other on who elk meat products. Yeah. Onto alchemy was the booth that we saw out the consciously expo and they were selling this. But yeah, ormuz itself seems to at least as far as the mythos surrounding it goes seems to go back to ancient Egypt Cleopatra Bathed in what she called milk and so they hypothesize Oh was actually and that's what kept her so beautiful young, right they being alchemy I've seen at mentioned on other sites so. As, well, they'll also mention Manna from heaven. Ancient Hebrews described that that was actually Ormuz, which is weird because that's not milk but I guess it can be kind of a solid and a liquid form. So it's kind of like one of those placeholder terms like we know there was a thing called Ambrosia of the Gods. Okay. Well, now, I wanNA make a recipe and call it Ambro Asia of Youth Right Ruth Serum Lemba Bread Lennon this bread that's from Lord of the rings that's their that's their answer to Mana. Okay. Okay. But then you wonder, Oh, how do I make this? Like what is. This hour do the mystical mystical Brad Wonderful Miracle Bread. Yeah, and some of these sites will define. As being orbital's rearranged Mon-. Atomic elements which almost arm o r m e can me the the Connections or Mrs this product of the Al Chemical Process, and it's tied to the the secret of extending life in the whole orbital early rearranged monitoring element. So Amman atomic substance is one where the atoms are not touching each other essentially. More than they are. The person using the word. Sure of. Gas. It means like you know all of these individual atoms are floating free and they're not bonded to each other. So the idea here is that this is gold that has been monitoring -ly separated so that each individual particle just has one gold atom within it. Okay. Sure and it's supposed to be a white powder but nobody that we're GonNa talk about today is actually using gold or doesn't seem to be as far as we know or even claims to be as far as I can tell us gold to create the substance. Yeah. So yeah, the company on Alchemy I don't think ever claims. that it is gold nor to they use organised to stand for that weird thing as far as I know. But yeah, I mean if you try to Google or Miss, you will get a bunch of companies and people making this thing at their little recipes. Yeah. They all have special things to offer about their arm right so it seems like the basic format is you take some neutral water, but then you add a bit of a an alkaline solution. So usually I see sodium hydroxide lye and four onto alchemy they're adding magnesium hydroxide. So it's slightly less basic, but it's like a milk of. Magnesia the kind of substance that would be used to help you digestive problems and then other places they'll add a bit of Dead Sea salt or they'll add a bit of Frankencense or whatever it is. They're adding some extra little material in there that makes it their special formulation of ormuz. So as you mentioned, we're going to zero in on this company on Alchemy we've mentioned the word Alchemy and chemical a few times here case you haven't heard that term before it's this very old idea that you could make gold out of something that isn't gold now chemical mixture and now decker cain would. Say it. Now, it can be used sort of a little left of center that original definition it will be any magical creation from things that shouldn't add up what you end up with. Yes. So originally, alchemy was just chemistry before anybody had a really good handle on it, and then starting around the sixteen hundreds when we actually started to figure a few things out, we I mean humans alchemy just became kind of the last bastion of these people thought you could do all these mystical things like prolong life indefinitely or turn simple substances into gold of course, everybody wants to make gold out of nothing. That, we can ruin its value. That's right. Yeah. So we can flood the market

This $4.6 Million Tournament Got DDOSD

"Much like the Overwatch League. The call of duty league continued its inaugural season online despite the cove nineteen outbreak. This past weekend marked its first ever playoff matches. We're talking like the biggest event, the biggest prize pool in cody history. On the ultimate driven grounds co look duties delete convert. Dead moment stares you in the face join no one. Rolling isn't. Skipping. Over is easy. is taking. But as things got underway while the some issues, the cod community had to deal with something. They're actually not that unfamiliar with going back to the days of advanced warfare, pro play online de Dos, attacks, and mid match booting of pro players basically because the games were being played on locking hackers would go in Diaz attack and boot Appro player from a live game at the highest level of play out there. This was pretty crazy and in the optic versus Ellie guerrillas it actually got so bad that optic at the sub in a different player because Kenny had been booted multiple times already in the match. Yeah. They all I, it looks like Kenny no longer in the in the server. So something happened there. So they're trying to do this four versus five right now. When did he try? It's been about over a minute and as you might imagine, the pro community was pissed obviously the competitive integrity of the Games are being called into question and pros were asking for things like postponing the event or boycotting entirely a really long time ago in a land when dinosaur a whirlwind when dinosaurs roamed the earth advanced warfare was a game and in that, there was an online lead and hitting people off line was an issue so much. So to the point where the league had to be restarted because it was impossible to avoid everyone's getting hit off. Again, and this has become an issue to the point where now it's impacting four million dollar tournament. This tournament has more than four million dollar prize by far the biggest payout in the history of call of duty. So for me, those frustrated tweets are seeing while they kind of make sense at minimum from twitter reports alone at least five players had this problem literal Diaz attacks in the middle of the playoffs. Now, luckily, for optic, the example I showed above didn't cost them the match but many players have speculated if they were playing against any team other than the lonely L. A. Guerrillas. It could have been a different story, fig it close it out here saucer PGA. Thanks saint flasks man he's been spotted broth and TJ. Trading there is big telezapper optic they're gonNA, get this series win. So you're activision blizzard you're putting the situation in the middle of the biggest tournament of all time in your brand new league in the middle of a global pandemic. What are you doing? Well, they're quick fix actually ended up being to start the matches off walk that way these attackers couldn't get to the players live many players also started to scramble their Ip addresses to make it even more difficult. So they made that change and everything was fine. Until it was on. August twenty first, the third day of playoff competition fans started to notice that scores were updating on the coal duty League playoff website before the matches had actually started on St keep in mind, I? Didn't tell anybody they were making this change. So as far as fans were concerned, these matches were being played lot. So when the Chicago Huntsman were playing the New York subway liners and fans could see the results of the first two maps before the game even started onstream people were a little confused and it's obviously awkward. If you're a fan right, you don't just want to. See The score you WanNa see the game and it gets even more awkward when you gambling to the mix this change was made pretty quickly. They didn't exactly have time to let Vegas now. So for a short while you could bet on a game while already knowing the results of the first babs, what's more is that some of the players being targeted by the DOS attacks. In the first place suggested that those might also be related to betty. You see the League was hosting a special perfect bracket challenge that awarded a hundred thousand dollars to anybody that had a perfect bracket all the way through the play offs similar to what you know. They do with March madness in college basketball, the bracket challenge coupled with the fact that all these attacks were. Happening on hard point, a type of match where in the rules, it's very difficult to replay them make this all very sketchy fear a hacker playing this bracket challenge and you want to make your hundred thousand dollars you go and you target your Diaz attacks towards hard point. So you can actually influence the results of those matches, its one, hundred, Fifty, seven points they passed that threshold. To basically this is to you know Kinda kind of. Levy in issues of it happens like the start of the game is really early in a game and you know somebody's played without unfortunately in this particular circumstance, it happens. Happens a bit deeper but yeah, Joe it sucks there's no way around that. No Way to hide from that few. Guys right now like I said off the top booting and Diaz attacks have been a problem multiple times in the history of cod online pro. So. It's baffling to me that this is even allowed to happen in the first place now, betting controversies and Diaz attacks. Aside, this weekend of coal beauty was miraculously able to survive the controversies time Sunday rolled around and teams were competing for their slot in next weekend's talk for matches. Fans were fucking pumped for some call of duty action and a lot of that has to do with Sunday's match that pitted the new off the gaming against the Chicago hunts, which aside from being a highly anticipated series with to good teams have the added drama of pitting obviously the old face of objects gump against an organization that is in many ways shell of its former self and what ensued was a five match bloodbath that peaked at more than a hundred and fifty thousand viewers on Youtube that some people are calling one of the best matches in call of duty history?

"Yeah. I'm Glenn get sink in. Yeah so I think there are some interesting thought there. And I think that's the thing with this whole blizzard and Blitz Chung and censorship thing and religious brought to light the way in which the world is is going and we just gotTa be interesting to bring up and talk about Yeah even though. It's something that's not. It's not specifically spiritual. I think it's important that we keep up finger on the pulse of West Society. Diety is right now and I think it's important for us to grapple with this and we definitely don't have all the answers in this area new new we don't But Yeah I don't know and I think as well I think even the understanding that like I dunno like a lot of the time like this. How money can even influence us is an interesting thing Think about like how the whole reason blizzard censored their own Playa was because they didn't want to lose money on this whole thing and I might man that is so like you know we do see the whole three interests message thing. But I'm like that is so Babylon Babylon to stop. Somebody's right to freedom and to be proclaiming like like their thoughts on freedom for the sake of making an extra buck who I just like. Wow that is the most babble a big of a herd but because because Babylon money and power they go hand in hand. Oh Yeah it's A. It's interesting prospect that I think we all probably need to be careful of. Yeah I mean you know some of the. I'm sure some of the people listening to this podcast business owners and that kind of thing I don't know like how much how much we willing to let money dictate our I. Yeah money and social status dictate decisions. I don't know that's a whole interesting that we didn't really even dive of into but there's so many things being brought to light by this. I guess that's why it's important to look into this stuff. Yeah absolutely so I think that is is probably enough for From us for now. I mean we've really only scratched the surface when it comes to this. And this is sort of the discussion that it's only really highlighting. What's happening in culture right now as I said we don't really have all the answers for all this but I think it's important for us to stay aware of what's happening in the Cultural Zeitgeist? Because I do see that the winds of change are moving. I will say this guy. I have been really encouraged by especially the Internet's response to you. This whole situation because the outcry from paypal just on the grassroots level has been incredibly loud loud and these companies have listened and they have responded accordingly. Because it's one thing to Serve the needs and serve the purposes as of China. But it's another thing when your fan base or your customer base or you know the you'll patrons Say something loud enough companies do. Listen and that's that's why blizzard you know they reduced the ban on blitz Chung. They gave him his his prize. Money back and I think they also shortened the penalty or the suspension on the two castors. I think find them completely. I think they just reduced as like like two months or something. I think six six six months. Okay yeah so I had like income is gone for six months. That's still well sucks wchs. Yeah no absolutely it does. But I'm still. I'm still encouraged. By the fact that evens are the Zeitgeist is moving in one area. Ah that there is still enough power in the hands of individuals like you and me to actually influence where that's going and I think that's a really awesome responsibility ability and I think that we need to take that seriously not just as people who customers of these companies whether you're blizzard customer apple you know you're into the NBA. But also as people of faith. Because I think this really does have interesting implications for our understanding of image of garden free speech and all that SORTA SORTA stuff which a lot of those principles very very Christian so without without going into a whole new podcast. I thought I mentioned that the back end of the conversation. Yeah and I guess that's a whole other thing as well but when you see injustice she should speak up about it even if it's voice online align because it does actually have affected can change things. Yeah and in case anybody wants to know our political stance free Hongkong Long. I hope that Hong Kong gets what it what it needs. I don't know yet. We've never gotten a single download from China and after this we probably weren't. Yeah but maybe from Hong Kong. He knows I don't know I don't know but yeah yeah. Yeah that's that's that's everything that's how thought obviously agree on that political stance anyway but if we would love to hear thoughts on this very very different episodes from fifty but hey it's important stuff so we'd love to hear you talk about it so make sure you get in touch with us on social media or a website and remember for all things been the haystack. "There was. There was backlash for for this. Basically the industry insiders basically have said China pressured blizzard then to ban Blitz Sean and to take away his His prize money and also fire the two castres who interviewed him because even even if they didn't want anything to do with it even if they kind of wanted to remain neutral they still allowed it to happen. I suppose And they didn't really They didn't really tell them. All for you know reprimand him on on you. Know on camera sorry let's blitz Chango band and they took away his prize money and the two castres got fired. And I'll tell you what man the Internet went. Buzz doc just blew up like on everything sword all over Youtube over over like my suburb. It's that I follow and I don't follow anything to do with hostile anymore. So even I sort just everywhere. It was on the front page for like over a week like two weeks. Yeah Yeah I think I think at one point the mud for Oslo read it Slash Blizzard sorry on. Read it Actually do Disabled doubled the The sub reddit and deleted his account in process. Yeah wow for. There was a good day. Oh to where all the modes had to All the remaining modes on slash blizzard had to band together to try to actually get the suburb at back because the hatred. The vitriol levied against blizzard was absolutely palpable. There was a A staff walkout Bunch of employee's at the actual blizzard H Q in a in a in the US in California So there was internal and external outrage all levied against blizzard in the In the wake of this this this entire situation yeah and yeah I was GonNa say something to note about now. You're probably wondering why would blizzard do for this. I guess and it's because I'm basically Blizzard Games are incredibly lucrative in China. Yeah Yeah when when they make money off China when the warcraft movie came out last year the year before I think it was a few years ago now it did really badly in the West But it absolutely killed at the box office in in China Blizzard is partly earned by a a company called. I think ten cent. Yeah Yeah and they are. China Aloe to actually tencent earns a lot of The gaming market it as well. Yeah they earn. I think five percent share in in Blizzard activision blizzard but then in like epic gains which is four. They have like a forty five the censure or something. Yeah Yeah I don't know thank me on that. But it's something like that and they have. They have totally owned riot games and all these gaming companies. Yeah Yeah so anyway. There's a lot of money in gaming in China yes and so we should also note that this wasn't a an isolated event Ada. I wasn't just blizzard. That's getting slammed by. This is actually quite a number of corporations that are getting slammed at the moment over their actions with China. Apple got slammed recently for.

"Force that brought the company together so I just find it interesting that he return not long before the other. Two Co founders decided to step away now over the last year or so. The company has been at the center of criticism. Not just just because of the Hong Kong controversy but also because they cut jobs while they were also posting record profits which that seemed weird to people. There's been a concern that activision is pushing a more aggressive approach to managing costs and maximizing profits at the expense of the quality of the Games. You know this is tough for a company that really established a reputation of making sure. A game is absolutely the best it can be before it launches so that's been an issue issue for blizzard recently as well that being said there's still an enormous amount of anticipation for Blizzard Games that their games tend to be really well received by critics and by fans alike. It's not a guarantee in every case obviously but they've got a really strong track record so they're still weathering some pretty rough criticisms and the activision connection remains something that a lot of fans are very leery about but I expect going to continue to see a lot of passionate support anticipation around their games and BLISS CON every year is a testament to that because it sells out within half an hour of tickets going on sale so I believe that it happens every year in Anaheim California. I have never been then. I know I've got friends who go there or have gone there pretty much every year One of these years. "Much was a requirement for all gamers. which was if you wanted to play the game? You had to. You have a persistent online connection even if you're only playing as a single player so you're playing a single player game. The game exists on your computer. You still had to have a persistent internet connection to Blizzard's servers This was a d. r. m. feature the the R. M. Stands for digital rights management. It was meant to ensure that the people who are playing the game. We're using authorized copies of the game because blizzard had seen many of its titles. Pirated starcraft two in particular had a huge problem with people pirating the game so this was a way to make sure that the people who are playing the game were were doing so unauthorized copies they had purchased the game. The online requirement left some critics in some players unhappy Server issues during high demand. Made this worse. I mean if a server goes down you cannot verify that your copy is legitimate. You could have gone out and bought a game. Spent money supporting reporting the video. Game Company brought it home and found out. You can't play it because they're authentication server is down. That's not great. That is as an example of how legitimate players can feel like. They're being punished for playing by the rules when they say hey if I had broken the rules and I had found a way to get around the best I could actually play the game I paid for. So why are you punishing me. which is a pretty legit argument if you asked me It's it's not easy to explain. Explain to a player why they can't enjoy a single player experience on a gain. They've purchased and installed on their computer just because their Internet connection goes down or a server goes off line so that was a kind of black mark against Diablo three now since Diablo three. We've seen lots of other games use this same method of D. R. N.. And I don't think gamers Amer's are any happier about this but a lot of them have sort of become used to it just because it's become kind of a a common Strategy among a lot of different game developers now between two thousand twelve and two thousand fourteen blizzard released expansion packs for starcraft two and world of warcraft as well as a console version of Diablo three but that was that there were no other new games coming up in two thousand twelve to two thousand fourteen but in two thousand fourteen blizzard would actually release a brand new game the granted. It was a brand new game that was still tied to the warcraft universe so it wasn't totally original Ip but the game was called hearth stone. Still an incredibly popular game. This is a digital card game. Similar to physical trading card games like magic the gathering so in hearth stone. You are a player who's building adding a deck of cards contains various units abilities. And you're using it in an effort to take down opponents who have their own deck of cards and your opponents might be computer controlled old or they might be other human players more importantly it's a gain that's absolutely married to the concept of micro transactions. Now you can play the game without making checking in game purchases but the fastest way to augment a deck is to buy packs of virtual cards. So it's like buying a booster pack and then and you can construct a deck of cards. That best matches your playing style. You can't guarantee that you're going to have any particular card in your hand when you start off but you can create a deck. That's more likely to be useful at various stages of match The game is free to play so you play hearth stone without ever spending a dime on it if you want to you but if you're going up against other players who are purchasing booster packs that might prove to be a challenge because your odds of getting a card you might really need In order to build a good deck are low and it takes a lot more time to earn booster packs than it does to just buy them. Outright blizzards released a lot of new cards. For the game. Several times since it has introduced hardstone and in November two thousand nineteen the company announced not only an expansion for the game but also a new game mode within hearth stone called battlegrounds which is what is called an auto battler and I had to actually look this up up because I had no idea. What an Auto Butler was? I play video games. But I hadn't had not come across this term so in an Auto Butler there is a board board upon which players can place pieces and it's kind of like a chess game but you can actually figure out where you're going to put each piece and the pieces. They select and the positions that they take determine their sides strengths and weaknesses and thereupon opponent does the same thing on their side. Then they get matched up together and the conflict automatically results so players are not directing anything at that point. They've already made all their choices. Based based upon the pieces they've picked and positions they've chosen and the computer system determines which side wins based on the criteria and it all sounds like a type of game I'd be really really terrible at as for hearth stone. It has been in the news recently as of the recording of this podcast due to some political controversies and blizzards response to them. So in October two thousand nineteen a professional hearth stone player express support for Hong Kong protesters who as of this recording are still protesting against the Chinese government. For reasons that are far too complicated to get into in this podcast but are very important. Blizzard banned the player who who supported Hong Kong from the tournament that the player was participating in and ban them from all future tournaments and essentially said you don't get to earn and any money off of hearth stone anymore and they cited a rule that said players are not allowed to do anything that would bring the game or blizzard into disrepute Or to hurt their public image in some way but that really opens up an entire can of worms because a lot of people suggested that made blizzard appear to be complicit it with the actions and philosophy of the Chinese government. which if you've listened to my episode about why is everything made in China? You understand Dan. That's not necessarily a great thing. And after a lot of criticism the company walked back some of the penalties it placed on this professional gamer. They reduce as those penalties but they didn't remove them entirely and the situation was made more complicated by the fact that the Chinese government ten cent owns a stake in activision blizzard. So this led to a big discussion. About how more and more companies are at least becoming partly dependent upon Chinese companies and that Chinese companies by and enlarge our state-backed entities or even state owned entities which means that the Chinese government itself has influence over those companies. And so you could argue that. Through these Chinese companies the Chinese government is exerting political influence on companies that are in other parts of the world world and that appears to be what happened in this case. So it's still a situation that's unfolding as of the recording of this episode And it's it's something that has extended far beyond just blizzard. There's been a lot of discussion about this for other types of companies largely media companies. Let's get back to the time line. Nine in two thousand fifteen blizzard released heroes of the storm which was a multiplayer online battle. Arena game or MOBA This game features characters from various as blizzard titles and pits players in an arena in which teams tried to establish control over the playing area so generally speaking with a Moba Typically Lee you play as part of a team and you have a goal of protecting your team and your little home base while you battle for control of the playing board and your your ultimate goal is to defeat the opposing team by either completely exhausting their resources by killing off all of their their units or by invading aiding their side of the board and taking it over and making sure that they don't have control over any part of the board there are various ways of getting to a win scenario so this game Kinda. Mary's strategy strategy with action in two thousand sixteen blizzard release the teen based Shooter Overwatch and this game has lots of different modes of play ranging from stuff like zone zone offense or defense games or escort missions and other types of games. But it's all in the style of of first person shooter with a eighteen based first person shooter so players take on the roles of one of several characters. I think there's up to thirty now. Each of those characters have their own strengths and weaknesses and abilities. ELEGIES and play is really fast paced and a good team like a team that actually knows each other strengths. They can really coordinate to be incredibly effective watching A team where they really know each other and they know how to communicate watching them play. This game is insane I've played the game casually online online with people I didn't know and we're obviously nowhere close to as effective because we don't have that level of communication and familiarity. Also also. I found out that I am most useful as a support class character like someone who gives healing boosts and stuff because turns out. People can move faster than I can see eighty and so if I land a shot on someone. It's almost always by accident so I'm really impressed by people who are really good at this game. Overtime blizzard has released updates dates to overwatch with new characters. It didn't start off with thirty but that's how many it has now and the company has reported that since it's released the game has earned a billion dollars in revenue with more than fifty million players and like many other blizzard games. This one also has micro transactions which players can purchase loot boxes Opening up a loot box gives you a chance to win. Certain types of items you will get items every loobox you open. It might not be the ones he want. But you'll get something and they have different levels of rarity so some you might just get a bunch of common pieces of cosmetic medic stuff like it's not meant to influence the actual game play you're not supposed to Guinea advantages like you're not gonna be able to hire move faster anything you'll look different or you might have a different catchphrase. You can say in the game or different pose. You might make before or after a match but otherwise it's not supposed to really affect game play so the idea is that yeah. It's a way to make money. But you could play the game without ever buying a loop box it's not gonna change the actual gameplay however you're lewd boxes in general are now a controversial topic. A lot of governments around the world are investigating as to whether or not they constitute gambling. Since since you cannot guarantee you're going to get a particular item when you purchase a loop bucks but these are things that are obviously of monetary value or else. They would not be able to sell sell loot boxes. It's something that has not yet been resolved so we'll have to revisit that concept in the future during Bliss Con Twenty Nineteen Blizzard Blizzard announced that it was working on the sequel to Overwatch Overwatch to and that it would allow players to port over the stuff. They've unlocked from the first game. which is good because because if you spend a lot of time and or money unlocking your favorite costumes for your favorite characters you probably be a little ticked off? If that didn't transfer over to the sequel other upcoming Blizzard Games include Diablo immortal. which was it is a blow game based for mobile devices like smartphones When they announced that it blitz con a while back It did not get a good reception fans deeply unhappy because they really wanted sounded a full-blown Diablo sequel and the like they were going to have to settle for a what they viewed as a watered down experience for Mobile. However in Bliss Conti Nineteen the company did announce Diablo four the actual full sequel to Diablo three And that got a slightly better response..

"Tweeted that such a possibility was at best unlikely likely. Okay so let's rewind again to two thousand seven and you may wonder why I am not talking about other games. That blizzard was making right now. That's because blizzard was really dedicating. The vast majority of its focus on world of warcraft. which again makes sense when you realize how that game was responsible? For the financial performance the company overall so two thousand seven would be a really big year for blizzard. Part of that was because they launched the burning crusade. which was the world of warcraft? First expansion pack that year. Another reason was that the world of warcraft game would hit eight point five million subscribers big a big milestone blizzard also announced that starcraft two would officially become thing in two thousand seven they did that during their third worldwide invitational invitational event. It's an event that takes place in South Korea where starcraft competition is huge but above all of that was another big corporate. Move outside of blizzards direct control so Vivendi. The parent company announced that it was going into a merger deal with the video game company activision vision. And that would happen toward the end of two thousand seven when they announced this The actual acquisition happened in two thousand eight so activision and Vivendi gains the division of vendee. That was all about games. Obviously would they would come together and they would form a new kind of parent company a Publishing Company really and it was going. It'd be called activision blizzard. Not activision Vivendi activision blizzard. That's how much clout blizzard had. They could demand that their name would would get equal billing with activision so this new company would still trade on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange under the activision ticker of a TV. I and the merger it would make activision blizzard. The world's largest video game publisher activision was riding high at that time from the release of call of duty for modern warfare air Vivendi Games was enjoying the tremendous financial success of world of warcraft and the company Vivendi Games had value of eight point. One billion dollars dollars at that time and according to Love sources they would contribute about one point seven billion dollars toward this acquisition deal so when you lump that cash offering along with the value of the company that comes up to nine point eight billion dollars. That's a Lotta Cheddar at their princely. He some if ever. There was one in return. Vivendi would get a fifty. Two percent stake in activision blizzard activision. CEO Oh a guy named Bobby Kodak would head up. The new company and the two companies completed the acquisition as I said in two thousand eight now skipping ahead a bit just to stick with this this particular part of the story about six years later Kodak would lead an investment group to purchase most of that fifty two percent of the ownership from Vivendi. And they did it with an offer of eight point two billion dollars. Remember Vivendi Games. When it went into the acquisition was worth eight point one so they offer eight point two billion dollars in buyback? Most of that stake. The vending would still hold onto a little bit more of its ownership of activision vision blizzard but it did divest itself of those shares in to future transactions. One happened two thousand fourteen and one for two thousand sixteen and together they accounted for about two billion dollars combined Which I realized I just said a redundant and repetitive way? And I just want reiterate that as Brendon Sinclair of games industry dot Biz would observe that would mean that the vinnie itself would effectively handover nine. In point. Eight billion dollars that would be the value of the company and the Cash Lee paid during the acquisition and in return ten years later it would net ten point one and five billion dollars. That's a net gain of around three hundred fifty million bucks which is a princely sum but represents just a three point five percent gain in value. Oh you over a decade whereas if you had just purchased shares in the company came back when the acquisition happened and sat on them and then sold them when Vinnie sold off the final shares. You would have seen a return of three hundred sixty seven percent so not a great move on seven part the they made this decision by the way because the the company Vivendi was in thirteen billion dollars of debt around that time so they needed to be able to sell off assets were to due to settle some of that debt now granted. None of that is really a concern for blizzard. The Video Game Development Company. It was more of a a questionable mark on Blizzard's parent company and the decisions of its Executive Team that being vindicate gains as for Blizzard. The the company was able to operate almost as if it were an independent studio even under this merger because the revenue was bringing in made it an an incredibly valuable asset so it just made sense not to mess with it too much so while activision blizzard would publish the Games Blizzard the Development Company. Because it's a different thing would otherwise operate without too much interference from anyone higher up on the chain at least for the time being because blizzard. It had that much clout in two thousand eight. It was more warcraft with music from the game's becoming tracks on itunes and the second expansion for while that being wrath of the Lich King that launched at the end of two thousand eight and like its predecessor the expansion pack broke. PC sales records for most copies sold old within twenty four hours and around that time while hit a subscription base of eleven million players so almost at its peak blizzard would not release another title until twenty ten and that's when starcraft two wings of Liberty finally came out twelve years after the original title had published way back in nineteen ninety eight now along with the game. Blizzard released an updated version of its battle. Net Service eventually. Blizzard would update battle net so that it was sort of a universal log in for all blizzard games including world of warcraft. Eager Gamers zirk rushed the the stores to get their copies of STAR TO A. And you know what I never even talked about the Zirk rush and the previous episode. But I guess I should because it's a mean that goes beyond the Games itself so here we go so in the starcraft games one of the three factions or races that you can control as a player are an insecticide. Insecticide race called the Surg Z.. E. R. G. and early unit that you can produce with the are these earthlings which.

"French. Which tells tells us that John John was right? There's always a bigger fish so now blizzard which was still allowed to operate more or less autonomously had brand new corporate read over or overlords. An this become a big issue in the near future so keeping in mind. This ownership question gets really complicated. Aided I feel a lot of empathy look up the history of how stuff works sometime and you'll know what I mean so the other thing that happened wasn't a great story for Blizzard. In this ninety eight ninety nine time period the company had reached out to a Russian video game developer to create a point and click adventure style game. Based off the warcraft intellectual property players were to take control of an ORC in his quest to become a warlord the Lord of the clans however while well the game was in development Lucas Arts announced to adventure games of their own the third in the Monkey Island series. I'm a huge monkey island fan and and also grim fandango true masterpiece of a computer game. they're both phenomenal and they have interesting stories and they have a great sense of humor there. Art Style is amazing. Meanwhile the work coming out of Russia wasn't really living up to blizzard's expectations for their adventure game and language barriers. were making it challenging to manage the project from California so ultimately blizzard made the tough decision to scrap the project even even though it was probably just a couple of months away from being finished the following year blizzard would push the blow to back from a late ninety nine release because because the game wasn't quite ready yet. They also announced plans for warcraft. Three which originally was going to have some big changes from the previous titles in the series it would have more of a role playing element so you would still have some real time strategy features but you would control hero units in the game and the story would unfold as your hero who completed quests and encountered other important characters after announcing the plans blizzard gut to work but early demos of their idea didn't appeal he'll to anyone on the team. It was generally felt that the process just was not working so in two thousand. They announced that warcraft. Three was actually going to be a lot more like its predecessors and also worse this would mean the game would take longer to develop blizzard. South would then then split into two big camps. One was focused on developing warcraft. Three the other group focused on a project called no mad which was going to be a brand a new intellectual property for the company. Unfortunately that one would also get bogged down and blizzard with before it ever got publicly announced now blizzard. Blizzard hasn't really ever said a whole lot. About what no mad was going to be like but they did reveal that they intended it to be a squad based game game set in a science fiction genre and that it was inspired by a tabletop. Miniatures strategy game called Necker Amanda which is part of the War Hammer Murph Forty K universe which might be the nerdiness thing I've ever said and I'm not judging. I play these games. Guys but part of the problem was that the team on nomad had never really agreed exactly where the balance and the game needed to be some wanted it to be more of a strategy game similar in some ways to the RT genre Others wanted to have more of an RPG focused so more role playing and story. A few folks on the team weren't really crazy about the idea at all and they just wanted to work on something else and since it seemed like there wasn't a chance that these visions were going to go here. The company ultimately decided to cancel it the warcraft adventure a game and nomad weren't the first canceled projects at Blizzard. There'd been an attempt to make a science fiction shooter game called Creek Zia in the mid nineties and there was a failed collaboration with changeling software to make a sequel to the space strategy game. Pax imperia before starcraft. Some blizzard developers were working working on different real time strategy. Game with post apocalyptic sci fi feel called shattered nations. And we're going to talk about some more cancelled games before we finish out the series somewhat mitigating player disappointment over the changes to warcraft. Three was the fact that blizzard north was finally ready to release Diablo. Low Two in June two thousand. which like the first game was an enormous hit? The graphics for the Game Only received relatively minor upgrades grades which threatened to impact player perception about the title but there were lots of improvements in other aspects of the game it had a larger scale and because the team new ooh that multi-player was going to be a component from the very beginning. They built it into the design process so it was much better incorporated than it was for the first Diablo. This came came at a price however the development process for Diablo two was famously brutal programmers and designers working long hours for a full year. Sometimes they'd be working more than twenty four hours at a stretch in a row all in an effort to finish this game even when they pushed the game back from ninety nine to mid two thousand. There really wasn't any room to breathe blizzard both north and south. We're not strangers to this kind of cycle commonly only in the Biz. We refer to it as crunch you see it in all forms of production but it has a seriously negative impact on work life balance as in. There isn't any balance between work and life today. Companies are becoming a little more sensitive to going into crunch mode as the optics as they say aren't aren't very good. There have been some rather high profile cases of employees putting their personal lives and health at risk just to finish a game cases like the Diablo two development process process would become much more common and not just at Blizzard as time would go on and well. If you're a a general Gamer. The average stereotypical Gamer. You're you're probably either not aware or you don't care about the plight of those actually toiling decree the Games that you play but one thing that the average Gamer does does tend to be quite vocal about our problems with games. Don't know if you've ever been on the Internet but they're not shy about saying that kind of thing Diablo's biggest problem problem early on was that it was so popular that everyone was trying to go online and it was crashing the battle net servers. which is the best kind of apology apology? You have to give to your public guys. I'm sorry we're so awesome that you have to play our game and you're destroying our server system. We're so sorry. Thank you but yes. That was one of the big issues. This also would mark when blizzard would veer away from that peer networking approach that I talked about earlier that they had created with battle net so with the old method it was incredibly easy for cheaters to explain the system I mean. They were hosting games on their own computers. So entering into multi-player Games aims with an unfair advantage was very easy. You could grief other players as well because Diablo had friendly fire on so you have an overpowered character who blasts fireballs malls everywhere and then. You're the only one standing highs in that fun. Well the way that they decided to address this was by completely changing the architecture of battle net so they went with a more traditional server client setup in which blizzard would run the Games on its servers and players would log in to access the games that helped out on the abuse that they had seen in the previous Diablo. Game is really only possible because we had seen a greater rollout of broadband technology at that point the same team that made Diablo two would work on the expansion set called the Lord of destruction which added more features to the Basti Oslo to gain blizzard made the decision early on to shoe third party studios they had not had any good real the experience with that anyway and they said you know. It just makes more sense for us to do it ourselves if we're going to do this. So they had the same team that made Diablo to make the expansion set and low and behold people liked it. Lord of Destruction launched in June. Two thousand one just one year after Diablo two had come out and there was another success for the team up at blizzard north. They would then turn their sights undeveloped yet. Another Diablo game which would have been diablo three. But if you can tell from that language it would not turn the way the team imagined it would. That'll be more For part three of this series. But we'll get a little bit into it. Meanwhile the team that had I've been developing nomad. Were hard at work on a brand new project. Their goal was to create a game in which hundreds maybe thousands of people could explore simultaneously asleep. It would be a persistent online world. Players would control characters they created and explore the world they would take on quests. They're join other players ears making factions. They worked together in coordinated raids on dungeons and opposing player factions. They wanted to make a massively multiplayer online online role playing game or IMO. RPG and when they looked across their collection of IP. They decided that the warcraft universe made the most sense to to adapt into that format and so work began on world of warcraft. Now IMOs were not a new thing. Even in in the early two thousands games like Ultima online and everquest originally debuted in the mid to late nineteen ninety s and Imos. Were really attractive. Type of game game to develop. I'll explain why see you design a compelling game. Now let's step one. It has to be something that people want to play. That means you can then get if you're lucky. A Nice large base of players moreover the general business strategy was to charge a subscription fee every month for each player. So it wasn't just that these players were going out and buying your game at full price. I mean they were but they were also paying for the privilege to continue to play. See the game in return. You indicate that you're you're going to keep building content and you're going to roll out new stuff for players to experience over time but really really what it means is that a game becomes an ongoing stream of revenue. Best yet with most games. You would sigh once. It became pretty clear. Are you at hit your saturation point right. If you had a traditional game then eventually to the point where sales against drop off. It'd be pretty obvious you weren't going to see any more dramatic jumps in sales figures but with IMOs. That didn't matter as much because once you had your initial player base they'd still be paying you that monthly subscription fee. Even if you only sold a relatively small number of copies once those initials sales die down. You'd still be sitting on a nice monthly revenue new stream. Now that doesn't mean the game immediately. Launched right away when they announced it. Nope it would take a few more years before it was ready to rule out the players but the course have been laid for one of blizzards biggest success stories but before we get to the success. We're going to have a little more heartbreak. My favorite part in fact. I'm going to have to really revel in this. Ah Let's take a quick break problems. It's.

"Was getting a bit too complicated for the typical video game controller so for that reason lizard made the decision vision to develop warcraft as a P. C. only game when it first started out with the intendant players would rely on the mouse and keyboard commands to control their factions in that first game. There wasn't that much that differentiated the ORCs from the humans. Apart from some appearance differences between the units both actions had units units. That did pretty much the same thing with the same sort of impact on the game world and on enemy units so basic infantry unit for the humans and a basic infantry the unit for the Orix were for any meaningful definition identical. They look different but they had the exact same abilities and stats. That first. Warcraft game did pretty well among both critics and the general game buying public. It didn't break any records or anything but the sales were encouraging and it was enough for blizzard to convince Davidson and associates associates to allow the team to create a sequel. They'll get back to that in just a second. Well things were picking up for the company and so they decided they would pick themselves selves up and they moved. They moved from their original office. Location in Costa Mesa to a much larger one. A fourteen thousand square foot office and Irvine California -Fornia now. These cities are in southern California by the way in the fall of nineteen ninety five. Blizzard launched its website blizzard dot com sadly sadly the earliest version of the site. I could get a look at was from December of Nineteen ninety-six so a year after it had launched. I highly recommend you use archive dot org to check out old versions of websites. You can really appreciate how far the web has come when you take a look at what passed for a cutting edge site back in nineteen ninety five or ninety six. The Blizzard site looked pretty. Darn primitive back then. It also mentioned stuff that I haven't really gotten to yet namely the release of Diablo and the launch of battle net. I'll talk about those more in our next episode so warcraft have been a success though. Not a breakout hit for blizzard third and it was enough for them to get the go ahead from their parent company Davidson and associates which would subsequently get acquired by another company called see you see International. which would subsequently changed? Its name to send in. Don't worry we'll go through all this again in the next episode and we won't be sticking with for very long turns out blizzard his head a lot of different corporate bosses. Anyway Blizzard's warcraft. Two would end up being an enormous improvement over its predecessor in many ways the official title for the gain would be warcraft. Two tides of darkness. Much of what the game offered were refinements to the systems of the first the game but there were some big additions as well such as air and sea units in addition to the land units that you can command. There's also a persistent fog of war feature which might require a little bit of explanation. So of war describes the area of a map that a player is able to see before you explore a map. Most of that map is going to get blacked out. The only part you can really see is the part immediately surrounding your base in your units and that means you haven't sent sent an e units out to reveal what else is out there. Now as you move units around you uncover more of the map and it becomes visible to you warcraft. The two took this a step further with persistent fog of war which meant that while a revealed portion of the map would remain visible to the player. You know once you explored it. You didn't have have to explore it again to know what was their geographically. You wouldn't be able to see what was currently happening in any given section of the map unless you had units in that area. So let's say you move a scout through one part of the map and you see it's a very hilly section of the map and then the scout gradually moves out of that section into a different section. Meanwhile but once you're scout has moved away from a certain distance from the explored territory it fades fades slightly. That indicates that you no longer have line of sight in that part of the map and that means anything could be happening in that area like an enemy. It could move into that area and you wouldn't see it because you're not currently there so if you were to move a scout back an enemies moving through then you would see the enemy and it would become revealed to you but if you didn't have a unit there you didn't have a line of sight you had no way of knowing what was happening so it may not just exploration important but also maintaining positions throughout the map so that added another element of strategy that you needed to keep in mind whether you're playing against a I or another human this feature would become a pretty standard option for Artis Games following warcraft. Two it would become one of those hallmarks of the genre. The game included more of blizzards rather ridiculous sense of humor which I mostly remember manifesting as the responses that units would have have when you selected them. Like if you were playing on the human side and you're selecting some human units you might get a response like what do you want When you clicked worked on them then you might send them some place and you might hear one of them? Say something like okay. The works were usually a bit more rude about things things. The game dead support multiplayer. And again you could play by connecting to computers directly together in a local area network or via direct connection with modems. Just like with the first warcraft but blizzard noticed something else. That was intriguing to them. There were some enterprising programmers who had created a service that they called Kali early k. a. l.. I the tool that you could download collie was a bit of a workaround so it would allow players to connect over the Internet to play various s multiplayer games by essentially tricking computers emulating a local area network over the Internet so to the computers. It would seem like like all these different machines are in the same general vicinity and are directly connected to one another through a land but in reality they be connecting over the Internet. So again it was a workaround to facilitate multiplayer sessions. Blizzard really liked that approach. And they work to make warcraft two compatible with it which would mean that up to eight players. Players could participate in different types of multiplayer games ranging from team based competitions to free-for-alls collie itself was an IP x network emulator IB stands for internetwork packet exchange. But the important thing to note is it was the sort of Jerry rigged way for people to play a against each other online The technical explanation for IPX goes well beyond discussion about Blizzard Blizzard. Entertainment loved the idea of a system that would allow for this kind of connectivity as a native feature without the need to trick a computer system into believing it was part of a local area network. So this would become the genesis us for battle net. That's a service that allows players to connect with each other and play with or against one another in various games if not for Cali. It might've taken another year or two for blizzard to jump on developing that project. And this wasn't just because blizzard wide to give players more options so that was definitely a big part of it. One of the side effects of the adoption of Kali is that warcraft to started to outperform the sales of its predecessor. It was legit. Jet Blockbuster. Hit helped no small part by the third party tool developed by enthusiasts which sent a clear message there was a real market to support online. Play if you could just figure out a way to do it. That wouldn't overtax your infrastructure. Another thing that fueled warcraft twos. Success was rivalry with Westwood Studios. That's the company that had made Dune to Westwood. Developed an awesome game of its own called command and conquer West wouldn't blizzard didn't really fire that many shots at each other directly while competing in the space but they didn't have to because their respective fans took care of all that for them. That's why those early flame wars where you either loved one or the other. But you couldn't love both of them. The resulting brouhaha raise the visibility of both titles which lead to great sales warcraft. Two would eventually crossed the threshold of one million copies. Sold now now today. That's not necessarily a chart. Buster as Popular Games can count sales in the tens or maybe even more than a hundred million copies sold old. That isn't always a fair fight. Either because some of the most popular games land on that list not because the game was a must have but because because it had been bundled with a console or game system that was insanely popular but in one thousand nine hundred five million units sold was a huge landmark. This was big enough for blizzard to recognize the opportunity to to deliver even more warcraft. Goodness two players now at the same time they had plans to develop other titles so there just weren't enough resources inside the company to create more warcraft to content using blizzard resources by itself or so they thought thought so they tapped developed studio called Cyber Lors studios to lead the development on an expansion pack for warcraft to blizzard began and to focus on another project that I'll talk more about in the next episode but to their dismay they found the Cyber Lor teams work to be below blizzard's own standards. The company made the tough decision to cancel the contract with cyber war and takeover development of the expansion set themselves. This also taught blizzards thirds founders. That in house development might be the best way to go in order to preserve the company's reputation among gamers the resulting product had the name warcraft to beyond the dark portal. So if you wanted to run this game you had to. I owned the base warcraft. Two game if you didn't have tides of darkness beyond the Dark Mark Portal would not work but it would extend the storyline that had been started by warcraft to an introduced new campaigns and new heroes for both sides of the conflict. Now at the time I wasn't really aware that these games even had storylines to me. They were just real time. Strategy Games. That consisted consisted of matches. That had you know individual objectives but there was no real overarching narrative. This is because I was not paying attention. This would also set me way back for future blizzard properties and to this day. I can't really tell you what the story was for these Games. I know that the the two sides were designated as the Alliance for the human side and the horde fully ORCs and that was something that would carry over and be expanded upon in future blizzard. Titles but we'll chat more about that in the next episode in the meantime if you guys have any suggestions for future episodes for tech stuff send me an email. L. "Because differentiating factors was that dune to had been a single player game blizzard wine to create a game that would allow two human players to compete against each other. If they they wanted to they could play as a single player or play competitively against another human. Now keep in mind. This was in nineteen ninety-four. Most people didn't even know much much about the Internet yet. A lot of us were still calling it the information superhighway or we were thinking about like it was a series of tubes. If you wanted to play against inst- another human you really had to options open to you was to create a direct connection between computers in a local area network or Lan. This wasn't super hard to do but it was beyond tech novices. And it did mean that you and your opponent had to be pretty much in the same room as each each other so it put some restrictions on game play. The other option was to use a modem to connect directly to another player's computer also connected to a modem the that would mean you would need to know the specific Ip address for your opponent so that you can make that connection happen again for a computer geeks. That wasn't a tall order her for for people just learning about the Internet. You know keep in mind. The World Wide Web itself had just become a thing. This was asking a lot still the fact that blizzard was able to take a brand new game type and expanded into a multiplayer. Format was a big deal. They also decide to embrace a different aesthetic so instead of using a science fiction setting like Dune two they decided to embrace the fantasy genre. The finished game was called warcraft. ORCS versus humans and Blizzard released released it in November nineteen ninety four just in time for the holiday season now when we come back. I'll talk more about how warcraft shaped blizzards future as well as how it sequel managed to cement that future but first. Let's take another quick break Problems it's human nature to hate problems. But why is that after all problems inspire us to mend things. Ben Things make things better. That's that's.

"Right. Like, well, they're trying to like bust this thing. Lisa was dumb and said, I've never talked John blizzard in my life. Like, Lisa come on. Like, that's not. You're not gonna win that argument. Like, that's she's never talked him. She says she doesn't have his number, and she doesn't sit there and talk with a twenty two year old. Yeah. Which let's now they're trying to poke holes in that argument because they poke holes in that argument, it shows that she lied about one little thing, which means that her entire case is wrong disregard teddy tire fucking thing. Right. And was just like okay now Teddy's telling the truth. So Ren is like well, you said at the Bahamas that their taxes house is supposed to know this text. What is happening? You know, you see her trying to remember like how they're trying to piece all this together. Right. So then Renna gives us her argument, which is Fender new teddy new, then why didn't she call treat or what she called teddy and say keep your mouth shut. Did she do that? Nope. Who cares? It's not hurt. Fucking job to do that. It's not everyone's job to protect you guys from the shitty stuff you do off camera. Yeah. But I think that I mean, I I don't totally discount Rina's logic in that. Because because Lisa is basically saying Lisa's argument is I don't want to bring this up. I've settled us with the read. I don't want this to become a thing. And then Lisa saying like, hey, read, you should get in front of this. Because now Teddy's gossiping about it. So the lobster Renan's basically saying like if if banner pump cared so much about this not into thing. Why don't you just call teddy yourself and be like listen can we'd like please don't gossip about this. I don't want this to be thing. That's witnessing. And honestly, I think it's a fair point. Okay. So let's move on to the next round. So Teddy's like well. I know you take ownership, but I did told the truth apologize. So if you can live with yourself doing something like that. But go for it. It's been working for a long time fan of prompts like, okay? So we've we've squashed that. I will continue to manipulate all of you guys. And let's celebrate Camille this is where these texts come in. We get to around two of the tech. Yeah. Teddy who just seems to keep coming up with more and more time 'cause on as she gets caught more and more shit. So she like Lisa is full shoot techs proving that can was contacting John blizzard discussing how it comes out to having first of all you do not have any tax between Ken and John Miller. John. You have John blizzard sing it. And of course, he's saying what they were talking about because he's saying what they're talking about at work, the word occurs secret thing and has it occurred. Anyone that John blizzard may not be the most reliable source? His name is blizzard. Okay. And I don't believe that's his real last name. I don't believe any. I don't think it's even his real first name. I I don't even know if he's even real human being I think he might just be like a toy. Okay. Why don't know why everyone thinks whatever John blizzard says is totally true. He's a gossipy employee who's gossiping with somebody does spin class as with. Okay. Well, see this is the thing. Like, I've Aleve that he's saying is the thing is he's gossiping with teddy about shit that's happening in the office. Nobody's telling him you have to tell all this stuff. So, but then here's what we got. Hold on one second. It's not for me. I guess I should say it's not about believability. But it's about a game of telephone. Right. Like, he hears something one way. Right. And so then he relase it and it's over text. So then like there's already like a certain amount of like like filtering the to attacks, you know, like certain like inflections in intentions, whatever are like stripped away. So like there's a little bit of a game of telephone and all these accusations, and all this anger is based off of one person say one person said to someone else, you know, what I'm saying?.

Not a huge Snapchat I guess, I'm just getting too old for that I need to modernize myself but I, gotta tell. You in past years. We've had it we always? Have a special miracle treat day filter for? Snapchat, users and it has been. Very popular and a lot of fun what is The featured blizzard. Of the day the feature blizzard for the day. Is going to be the, Oriole blizzard but all of our flavors will, be available that. Day which include all the flavors on our current summer blizzard menu, I have to ask you something do you have ice cream. Every day I wish I'd have ice cream everyday But I have. Ice. Cream. Quite frequently everything in moderation right exactly and you actually have some new flavors of blizzards that are out this summer we do in our fans, have really enjoyed or summer. Blizzard menu and there's something, for everybody if you, love peanut butter there's drastic chump blizzard which is peanut butter and chocolate for those people that. Love campfires and love the. Smallest flavor we have a fan favourite that's our s'mores blizzard for those that might not might. Be looking for something other than chocolate. We have a new summer Barry blizzard that is really wonderful with a lot of those berries, that we all enjoy in the summer and we join a cheesecake. With that in a very special blizzard and then another non chocolate blizzard that people really enjoy is the cotton candy blizzard for. Those that like a little sleet flavors so we'd like to have something for everybody and. Our summer blizzard menu, really does that and then of course we've got our traditional favorites. That are available all year as well. Mine happens to be the turtle blizzard Mine I will tell you it's more as blizzard right. As well I can't wait to go Some in the new ones as well I definitely. Well on miracle. Treat day it's on Thursday August second it's to benefit the children's miracle network could you tell me a little bit more about, the children's miracle network children's miracle network hospitals is an, organization nationwide both throughout the US and. Canada and what it does is it it. Helps raise funds that go directly to more than one hundred and seventy children's hospitals throughout. The United States and Canada what's really important so when people think about fundraising for hospitals and what we really like about this program in. About our partnership with age Is that the dollars that are raised within any particular area actually stay and go to the hospital right within that area so it's not going raising funds in Colorado that go. Out to a. Different state those funds are actually staying right within the state of Colorado and they're going to be supporting children's hospital Colorado How much money have you raised today to since our relationship began, I'll take you back. There and then. I'll tell you a little bit about miracle treat day this past year we, since our partnership began with children's miracle network hospitals in nineteen Eighty-four the system through its franchisees has raised more than one hundred thirty five million dollars for children's hospitals across the United States and Canada which is really exciting miracle treat day we raised more, than four. Million dollars last year in the US and Canada? And we really hope we can beat that number this year which would bring are probably annual fundraising for twenty eighteen assuming? We can get there with miracle treat day north of nine million dollars in the. US and Canada and miracle treat day is Thursday August second, why did you partner with the children's miracle network You know the partnership is a set goes way back to nineteen Eighty-four and we were Dairy Queen system was one of the first corporate partners of children's miracle, network hospitals. With which was in its infancy at that time For the Dairy. Queen system made sense, van and it continues to make sense today for, a number of reasons first of all. Obviously the the organization raises money to support children's hospitals, families and children are key to the Dairy Queen system that is what we we've had a special. Relationship with children and families. And it's one that we've value highly so to the extent that we can in. Some way give back to those families in need and in. Particularly sick and injured kids who are in need we really, wanna do. That we wanna help kids get back to, being kids again and it's just a wonderful, 'cause the, other really. Nice connection is all of our locations other than to right here in Minneapolis where I'm based, are are, franchised so our franchisees are for the most part local residents of the communities in. Which they're they're franchises are located so it's really important to them that as they and their fans raise money for their children's Hospitals that had actually stays within their communities to help support the families. And children within their communities. And areas that are in need and this organization really, helps us do that so. Every dollar when you go to your favorite Dairy Queen location. And by your blizzard on Thursday August second the contributions that, franchisee.
