Boston Red Sox open season Friday night with no fans

"Red Sox opened their shortened 2020 2020 baseball baseball season season with with a a 13 13 to to to to win win over over Baltimore Baltimore last last night. night. It It empty empty Fenway Fenway Park. Park. Lots Lots of of fans fans outside outside the the ballpark, ballpark, though though W W B B z z TVs TVs to to Shawnee Shawnee Whitlow was there for 12 threes are out at the old game play to a new set of guidelines due to the Corona virus, so I will always right. My home team. Don't care if there aren't any fans will always always support my team's also chicken steak. For the first time in history, the Red Sox opened its season two empty stadium seats. I'm glad that we could still be out in Boston near the stadium, at least on opening day, despite a light crowd. One thing remains the same fans flocking to Lansdowne Street with hopes of seeing the Green Monster. There's a gate inside bleacher bar that we can actually see the field. I feel like that's the closest we could get today, and we're thankful to have that opportunity restaurants adjusting to a new set of guidelines. It certainly has been difficult changing the way that we operate. But now that we're here, I'm proud to say that everybody is doing a really good job. Things are running way. Can we actually get out of tape measure every day when we're setting up? Everything is six feet apart, if not more way. Just want to make sure everybody's safe Restaurant staff glad to be back on the ones of us that are here. Working. I'm very happy to be here. You know, making, you know not, of course not the same money, but every little bit helps, especially in a situation so we're very happy to be back. This is the most action I've seen on the street and since March No word on one fans will be allowed back in the stadium, which could depend on how soon vaccine comes available and the Red Sox and birds again this afternoon, 1 35 At

"Friday and Saturday. I was doing a bunch of instagram wide work for not following our BGN instagram count. Get on that one in there for the last couple of weeks having a Lotta great content there at bleeding green instant on instagram. I was joined by the Great. Our podcast leader. Michael Kissed himself doing some instagram. Live work on Friday on Thursday had live reaction to the Jalen regular pig. A little confusion on my part because I assume the birds. We're going to drift. Lsu's Justin Jefferson player. They were so frequently in the pre-draft process with a little shop at the regular pig. But you don't a day or two later. I'm recording this on Sunday afternoon. Having a fantastic afternoon cup of coffee. Mccafe Colombian couldn't recommend it more but the regular pick I'm on it. He's little rocked up not that small guy five eleven and Mantis cf speed. He didn't clock while at the combine. It seemed like there was some kind of issue there but one of those sports in Info solutions or one of those you know spark things measured him as having a top speed last year while playing at Tcu of twenty two point six miles per hour in that entire week hill range. Eagles are serious about adding speed. Now I know people come around the regular pick. It was a little shocked at first people. Were kind of you know. He plays a big twelve in the offense assistant. There doesn't seem to bad quarterback Fee So good. Schone help out. A crappy quarterback a true freshman. You know that guy is getting wrecked all weekend. I feel bad. No one even knows his name that TCU freshman quarterback. That's probably for the best. But I like the I think that's a consensus now. Everyone's maybe like the nets he'll be good compliments carson. Who really wants to throw the ball downfield more and he is bringing that speed ELM and we will get to that more later but the more pressing matter in the eagles world is the thing either. Fan has an opinion on right now. The most shocking turn of events of the weekend is in the second round with the fifty third overall. Pick the eagles selected. Oklahoma quarterback Jalen hurts now if you were watching the BGN instagram livestream between me and kissed on Friday night Just a few PIXIE. Four number fifty three. You may have heard me say this. Come back to haunt me but I think there's no way the eagles make an egregious picking a bad pick here what happened. They made in the Greece's pick. I did it to myself. Sorry guys the Mush King is here. And he's begging for forgiveness now. That was the most shocking pick that I've seen in my time as an eagles fan. Great Great Didn't your said in his fifty years covering her so covering this team covering this league. That is the most shocking pick. He's ever seen in right did. He's a football God and that just tells you how outrageous this move was and I don't think I'm alone in saying I'm pretty PEO- at the move I'm upset Howie. What are you doing this whole off season you need to be adding weapons for Carson? You know look at the team. Last year I get. That Carson hasn't finished a playoff game in two thousand seventeen eighteen twenty nineteen. But you have to think you have to bet on him to be. Your franchise quarterback just gave him at nine figure contract extension. He's twenty-seven-year-old twenty seven years old and the prime of his career and you distracted with a top fifty three pick his backup quarterback developmental guy who might not even be ready to be atop to your backup in year one Halloween. What's going on now? He'll these tastes him. Hell comes tastes. Him held by far my least favorite player in the NFL People saying that. Oh well jalen hurts. Give me the taste smell. The Eagles look it tastes. Male does down to New Orleans. Drew brees and champagne tastes him. Help Place about fifteen snaps per game. Tastes him hell is a thirty year old guy. Now who was an undrafted rookie free agent? The saints invested him a second round. Pick a fifty third overall pick in the draft and they had tons and tons of holes on their roster still. Did you really drive the guy with the fifty third pick for fifteen plays a game? I don't buy that explanation. All He'd come back my head. What's the simplest explanation? What is autumn's razor? What is the simplest reason that the eagles draft a quarterback with their second round pick is that they don't have confidence in Carson Wentz going forward whether that's medicals whether that's the leadership aspect that's been bubbling under the surface for the last couple of years stemming from that philly voice report back at the end of the two thousand seventeen two thousand eighteen season then the entire Alshon Jeffery Saga from last year from everything that I've heard Alshon Jeffery could not detest Carson Wentz more and I don't think he's necessarily loan agreements on preferred Nick foles over him? Has LEADERSHIP HAS QUESTIONED THE LAST COUPLE YEARS? And look at this. A two ways to react in a quarterback who's very good and I'm not gonNA lie. I really like jalen hurts coming into this draft. I don't think he's necessarily year one player but I think he is a true star in this league. I think he can have people. Might throw to Lamar Jackson competence. Little outrageous to me but I will say you can have a Dak Prescott like I'm quite high on him but the draft a quarterback of that caliber guy who was a winner at different schools to the biggest comparable programs in the country. Someone who was fantastic staff last year planning Lincoln Riley is Oklahoma System. Believed by thirty nine hundred passing yards. Thirty two passing touchdowns just to just interceptions about thirteen hundred rushing yards in twenty rushing touchdowns the guys electric driven electric quarterback in the second round just to be back up. That guy's expected to play at some point and whether that's in those gimmicky tastes them hill packages no the eagles have former offensive coordinator. Mardi morning way back in their system as an assistant under Doug Peterson wake. Most recently was Coach in Baltimore under hard ball and he was working with Flocco and then Lamar Jackson and Jackson's rookie. Year Twenty eight team in they did utilize some schemes and some information some place that had both flocco in the Mark Jackson the field. I can't how successful that was. Plays ARE OPENING MY MIND. I think plays are. Es It's Gimmicky and what you're only doing is taking the ball out of the best players. Hand the best player on your teams hands. And using him as a decoy. You're using your best quarterback as on the play and it just seems like it's an obvious situation you're going to run some wildcat you're going to run a wildcat gift for yards and take it from there then. Carson background the gun and see what happens from there it's all gimmicky. It's all running this wing tea high school Friday Night Lights type stuff. No I'm thinking in my head again. Why do they make this pick? Why did they do this? They had so many holes on the roster still while there was still a lot of great players on the board Christian fallen from Lsu to cornerback. Was Michael Kids. Thirteen th ranked player entire big board this past strip there was Ashton Davidson. Count on the board still. There was Jeremy Chin from Southern Illinois used on the board. They were count on the board. You could find a day one starter that pick but the birds went a different direction and drafted developmental backup. Quarterback eagles aren't that Kansas City chiefs. They don't have the luxury of taking a player like that. They don't have the best roster top to bottom in the NFL anymore. This is in two thousand seventeen. This is twenty twenty and he goes have holes. They need young players. They need young talent. Yes her two young town. He's at a position. We've behind your twenty seven year old franchise quarterback with nine figure contract extension. So what's the move? How you why would you do it? Why would you do it? Think that's a question on everyone's mind in Philadelphia. How why would you make that pick again? We could you know. Spend it any way. We won. Positively oh they want to do some creative formations. You want to do this. You WanNa have you know. Have as much speed on the field as possible Blah Blah Blah Blah Blah. But the end of the day. You don't draft the quarterback in the second round when you have a franchise quarterback that's twenty seven years old making as much money as he is unless you have significant doubts about him being your quarterback in the next three to four years you take a guy like Jalen hurts because you expect them to play on his rookie contract at some point in the next four years and for some reason whether it's medical whether it's leadership aspects the eagles have some holdout when it comes to projecting Carson Wentz is future and again. He hasn't finished a playoff game in the last three years. And while that concussion a flukey hit and I'm not saying he's injury prominent caution on so they helped concussions work. It's different when it happens with his knees or his back or something along those lines but what if Carson Wentz and among this isn't based off anything. This isn't a report source information pure speculation that I had and talking with some eagles friends. You know all my group. Shafts were popping off all weekend when that Jalen hurts takeout getting texts when kids Ivan Spill in two years in the Eagles Judas. While they were they were they. Don't I don't know man how early I don't know you don't know. Stop taxi me doing a live. Instagram and again going back to this isn't a report. This is just my mindless speculation is if Carson Wentz and twenty seventeen and twenty eight scene had major injuries that short. His season ended his season and the eagles had success with album. After that point most notably winning the super bowl in twenty seventeen. Twenty eight thousand Nicole's on a great run to end. That season won a playoff game in Chicago. Nearly stole playoff in New Orleans. If not for that infamous alshon Jeffery drop at the end of the fourth quarter when the birds were driving so he hasn't finished the season and a couple of huge huge injuries between his knee and his back. Those aren't necessarily go away and then he has a concussion. What if Carson Wentz has made a privately known to the organization that if he is a suffer another catastrophic injury along the lines of a knee injury his knee explodes again? Acl Tear or another back. Injury that creeps back in or if you were to get another concussion. He is comfortable walking away from the ball. In that Andrew Luck moby think Carson Wentz stoldas young quarterback but he is twenty seven years old. And maybe this using goes well. But next season he's twenty eight years old Actually nine gets concussion or two and says hey. I made enough money in this league. I have a wife. I have a kid on the way I have my dogs. I can go on a tree bind you know South New Jersey for the rest of my life. I have a ton of money. I WANNA do this. You know hunting clothing line in have all these accessories and that's what you wanted to life in. No if that's what he wants you know. Knock yourself out pal but I think those are the things. I'm not saying. The Eagles draft the backup quarterback because Carson wentz likes to hunt. I think it's possibility that if you have injury after injury after injury in this in the professional football league you don't WanNa be fifty seven years old and unable to walk or have all these terrible CD problems and we've seen it. What entry love scene about Luke keithly players pro bowl caliber all pro caliber players? Walk away at the top of their games and their prime because of injuries recently with all the new information out there about how devastating football can be physically and mentally in your post playing career and again. That's not exactly why this isn't an explanation. This is just my you know mindless thought process. And I can't help thinking the simplest solution. The simplest explanation during this whole thought process. Is that Eagles Howie Roseman. Potentially Jeffrey Laurie or Doug Peterson have concerns about Carson. Wentz being the Eagles quarterback within the next three to four years and again I like Jalen hurts. I think he's electric. I think the eagles could be really creative with him. And I think you know in. This hypothetical situation wasn't on the team or wasn't started. I think the eagles could have a great offense with her. It's out there. But don't make that pick unless you have concerns about your franchise quarterback and that scares the crap out of me. The living crap out of me because I feel so personally I guess financially and in a job setting invested in Carson. Wentz a success if you're an eagles fan you're certainly invested Carson Wentz to success. He's your guy..

Harry Dodge: My Meteorite: Or, Without the Random There Can Be No New Thing

"Think that you have in this book. Mein meteorite shown how people tend to get things wrong until they're allowed to collide and form new things. Was this book very difficult to right? Thank you for that. I had an idea for the book and I began by writing out these These three anecdotes that kind of are that are assured. The longer anecdotes one was the anecdote about the Performance in Chicago that had gone so poorly and how started performing again and That was a big coincidence and there was another huge series of coincidences that I write about With regards my birth mother when I found her at age thirty six and we had a bunch of very odd things in common and another set of coincidences. I wrote about at the beginning of reading. The book was The Guardian Angel Incidences as I called where I met the same cabdriver again and again a couple years apart in the ninety s when I lived in San Francisco I started there and then I started to take notes on sort of my everyday activities for about a year and then when my father died because of course the book begins with Father. Dying in the book ends with my Father Dying. I began writing the book and Ernest when he died. And I got confused Here I had all these notes that that I was going to fill out into a book that had a sort of forward progression but now I was writing in the present in two thousand seventeen but also filling out the notes from two thousand sixteen and then I realized the book could be kind of I. Think of it as kind of horseshoe-shaped where two thousand seventeen is moving forward and progressing as his two thousand sixteen and they sort of meat in some way at the end yes undergoes through your home life. You remember the. I think fourteen page letter you right when you jump out the second floor window to go to a concert that you felt without being there your life would be inferior altered emptied and you taped the letter to the collar of the dog so that your parents would be sure to receive it when they walk the dog. The book form of important messages between you and the people in your life and between you and your readers. You're very good writer and you're a very good teacher and this book my meteorite or without the random there can be no new thing. It's published by Penguin Press. It's a penguin original. And I never thought I'd the things that you teach me about artificial intelligence about robots. About how what we learn from the web comes to us. How many things have to be assembled before the triples occur that allow communication? You really took me by complete surprise and led me by the nose to understanding all kinds of things that I thought. I was incapable of understanding woman. This book my meteorite one of the surprises review when your birth mother is that you share the love of a particular novel by Theodore Sturgeon. It's a book a really Short Little Novella. I think even called the dreaming jewels which I believe was first published. It was either the late sixties early seventies and I as I say in the book I founded when I was ten years old and the bookstore was I think Michelle in the in the kids section and I used to read a lot of science fiction than and I read it and I. It's just a sort of weirdly. Abject book where this kid is caught caught eating ants under the bleachers. And he is. He's an odd creature in feels like he's from another planet in he's kind of being raised by these really icky brutal parents and he's really alienated from his community and ends up running away from home and joining the circus and he ends up being a shape shifter and he ends up being controlled by these kind of Maroon that have actually fallen from space and then the jewels tend to create things and they had evidently created him and The book was blew my mind. You know as a Kid. I used to keep this long list of books. I had hundreds and hundreds of books in this long list. I used to and dumb it under this one. This particular book better read. When I was ten I had put five stars in the column. And so is my favorite book for years. And then you know When I was twenty five or thirty years later when I met my birth mother we sat talking and we evidently had this book in common.

"bleacher" Discussed on Digiday Podcast

"Welcome to the digital podcast. I'm Brian Marcy We have a special episode this week that we recorded live last week. At the reports New York City headquarters I spoke with bleacher report chief content officer. Sam Tolls about how? Vr Is finding the sweet spot between sports pop culture. It shift emphasize longer video programming. And how a green light's new shows. Hope you enjoy it. Okay thank you for coming. Everyone really appreciate you. Turn it on a Monday night and thank you to bleacher report for hosting US Wonderful Office. This gives everyone here from digital office goals. Someday this we've got a ways to go. We're going to do this. Live recording of the digital podcast and. I'm luckily joined by Sam. Tolls of as you know Sam as chief content officer at butcher point. Sam Thank you my pleasure. Thank you for having me okay. So Sam you've now been at bleacher for here about ten ten and a half months. What attracts you to the brand as I was thinking about leaving. Mgm The CEO Hired me. They're left under strange circumstances. And so when my contract was coming up started exploring options and you know really great job market especially if you're content person like there's tons and tons of opportunities and happened to get a call from recruiter and I knew report and the role seemed interesting but comparing it to sort of what I had done. And what my thought. My career trajectory was. I wasn't fully sold especially you know. Publishing world has been a little bit rocky and More I learned about the brand I met dave the founder. I met Howard our new. Ceo or not that was new at the time CEO and the team and every conversation. I had and every time I drove into and thought about this brand. It became an obsession of mine to actually start to work here at it. It it is something for me as I look at the media landscape embodies all the things that I think. Next generation media companies have to have engaged deep passion audience an audience that is predominantly under thirty five years of age seventy percent of our social audiences under the age of thirty five at scale but with that depth of engagement connected to have fully vertically integrated media enterprise so that you have no ceiling to the ambitions as you develop content. You can literally ladder it up into a division. Hbo or CNN. If the idea is good enough and big enough it has no ceiling as far as making an impact on audience and the nature of sports being unique in the sense that you know I think media now is all about tribal audience. People are self selecting. The difference between traditional linear media was the goal of collecting a wide. Morpheus audience of general consumers has now been replaced by this universe of social where anyone in this audience for anyone listening to this has their feed whether instagram or twitter or facebook and that feed is extremely personalized. You're very specific interests and passions. And you know sports is unique in the sense that not only. Is it deeply deeply tribal in the sense that people care very much about it but it also has the breadth of audience that gives it scale and so thinking about all those unique assets really really inspired me to move across the country and join biard as their CEO? So let's talk about the tribal element. I mean anyone who listens this. Podcast knows that. I'm Big Philadelphia Eagles Fan so I'm definitely part of this strange tribe And I do think sports are an interesting glue that that connects people in communities. How does that manifest itself in the brands that now makeup be are you saying the portfolio brands? Yeah so look the interesting thing is that we we started as a company in our founders premise. Was there's all of this information about sports. All these tribal audiences care about sports. But there's nothing connecting those things together and so through newsletters and alerts And ultimately our pivot in evolution into social. We've become really the experts I mean. If you're an eagles fan they know what your favorite players are. They know sort of your. What kind of kicks you like because of what you what you Engage in. It's very very much a part of you. And it's sort of expressed in the in the way our audience interfaces with with the platform and so on through that we've done more and more segmentation looking at the audience as a whole but the things that they're passionate about so out of that you see that we have specific verticals that deal sport by Sport Football being one of the most popular sports is no surprise very very exciting to our audience and so we have a dedicated gridiron channel that dives in To football specifically people love sports betting. And we've built recently A. B. R. Betting Channel that specifically talks about betting in the sports base and. I'm sure we'll talk a little bit more exciting area. Kicks is the same way and music. Kicks sneakers yes sorry for the for Layman's The nikes the Adidas new balance? Whatever shoe your favorite athlete whereas it's become an entire tribe into itself their entire sites dedicated to une boxing shoes and people that anxiously wait for Nike's newest announcement and that's very much related to sports because athletes are connected to their shoes and fans are connected they're athletes and it's a Or how to use interested in in how expansive the brand can be. 'cause you know going into two sneakers obviously yes. I mean athletes wear sneakers. But you're really talking about a different area. It's not sports. It's it's It's fashion you alter its culture but I'd so I'm wondering how far you you see being able to stretch the brand into these areas like I mean like the Serge Ibaka show. That's it's yes. He's an athlete. Fortunately played against the sixers last year. But you know that's a food show. Look I think the interesting thing about sports in general is that it should of the media verge. The media side of sports is an outcropping of news right like they grew up next to each other. So News and sports live desks commentators talking about the topical events because where it says live and happening in iterative and you have to have coverage and news in similar sense but if you think about sort of media and entertainment and how that has evolved you know the unscripted show of two thousand one would not work today because there's the the formulas and the and the ways that those shows have been developed by talented craters is constantly trying to catch up with audience. Audience Interests and passion. And so when you think about what that means for sports and sort of how sports has been done look I think. Espn's thirty for thirty is a terrific Docu series show but even today people talk about that as if it was the show but it was ten. Plus years old that series it was initially supposed to be thirty episodes. Hundred plus episodes later passed the thirty. And what I think hasn't been done or hasn't really been explored is the notion of how to tell stories around the world of sports in a different way. So like what's an example well think about our untold stories? Show right it's an interview show in its essence right. We're bringing football players that have really unique stories to tell and master to staffy. And who's our was a was a writer here and is now on camera. Talent is interviewing them about things that they haven't necessarily told the world but instead of just sitting down at a desk we go into an immersive kind of storytelling environment. We'VE LEANED INTO ANIMATION. Which is something that we are sort of became known for early with game zones and the champions and Gridiron Heights We've taken that kind of storytelling. To bring to life for our audience a story that was not filmed might have been very personal private about You know someone getting high before they went and got on the field and why they did that or you know the first big dinner that someone had you know with the the owner of the team and so we bring that storytelling to live through animation. And it's a different kind of flavor that resonates with our younger audience. It's a simple example battle stations which is our first pilot under. My leadership is in the gaming space. That was simply you know. Imagining the world of cribs as as it relates to people who are enthusiastic about gaming and connecting sports fans to the world of gaming. So you have Darren Fox and our host Censor getting together at his home. You see his home but more importantly you dive into his gaming setup you find out what he cares about what controller he uses. What monitors uses. What audio equipment uses. So if you're a nerd about gaming and you're a nerd in that space but you're also a sports fan who happens to love gaming and you're on our gaming channel you get to experience something kind of storytelling that you haven't seen in the sort of traditional straight down the line sports media landscape so it sounds like the kinds of storytelling. You're focused on is not sort of where biard began. I may began like as a collection of blogs text. Sure I mean text I think is an incredibly valuable part of what we do. It's a motive it's IP generating. As obviously the the world mourned today Kobe's death we incredible piece by Mirren Fater About G G their daughter and her contributions and what that looks like. And you know she was thirteen years old. That's very resonant with a lot of the audience that belongs on. Biard curious about you know the relationship that she had with her father and what that was like what you know what her experience was growing up in a basketball family and how she matured into the wonderful young woman that she became and the relationship she had with her father. It's very relevant to our audience and I think about the stories that we're leaning into now as vehicles to ladder up Additional Ip whether they become audio podcasts. Investigative Journalism pieces that we can then take to a narrative closed ended podcast series. Or if it's something that's a bigger broader story could that become a docu series because that becomes something you know that would live an HBO? Bleacher Report's Sam Toles on building franchises that last

"We're going to do this. Max and that new universal belong on CNN films and you're thinking Ip not like posts correct. I mean I think that all of this is about expanding and raising the ceiling of what we are can be you. You don't need that comes from the traditional media world traditional. I mean the the studio and platform world to continue. Just doing the expected. Bryce Harper has no regrets entering Year 2 with Phillies: 'Just so happy to be here'

"Mind a calendar year after Philadelphia made so many big moves Bryce Harper ended up there they were the focus of much of the offseason storyline I guess last year you couldn't go anywhere Scott without people saying what do you think Miller Machado Harper Machado are gonna end up now the Phillies seemingly after a disappointing year managerial change finer the radar a bit is is that fair to say still an incredible amount of talent secure for Bryce Harper but I find them kind of intriguing in a division that's just loaded loaded loaded loaded yeah I mean that that that east is going to be very interesting I mean I was at Matt's camp I think the day before I was in Jupiter perhaps it was either the day before I saw the cardinals or the day after I mean the Mets rotation I've got like six or seven starters buying for five spots you know it's not just a gram center guard but it's strong man and I mean even Rick Porcello who has a sigh young on his resume and or sell and and and Michael Walker and you know I mean it pieces could fall together well there you know Atlanta is done really well the last couple years and yeah I mean in clear water today you know a ton of optimism I mean you know you would think you know Bryce Harper is kind of on the Manny Machado program both of them had such chaotic offseasons a year ago that you know you would think with everything calmed down yeah baby our world in his second year have a have or even you know better year last year or so so some of these numbers you know we were pretty good but others by his standards warrant I'm talking to him today yeah the biggest thing disappointed in him as he finished with a less than a hundred walks in he said there's no way I should ever have less than our walk so yeah that suggested that he would you know he was kind of maybe a little too eager not as patient last year but you think of our comes back big thing with them is that somebody injuries last year you don't have a conscience back yes I don't know if he's gonna be ready for the start of the season but he should be ready shortly there after yeah Koch and you know they were her last year with with this many you know knee injury Arianna was hurt hello while last year the young couple their relievers war the LG but if I get a little bit of good good lot of hell yeah JT real Miro's probably that is gonna catchers there is in the game right now and yeah you put him in Bryce Harper yeah add a DD Gregorius from the Yankees he'll play shortstop and she's a girl bounce over to sac and there's there's a lot to like about this team you know I heard all of the bounce back year but they added yeah nation as well Yolanda talent we will get over that side this you were there last year and holy cow you just you know look at and what they have on paper all of the guys they can throw at you during the spring so these games when you see you know twenty five thirty guys it's it's remarkable so that that division is going to be some to see and I don't know make maybe the nationals team that actually won the World Series maybe they're fine under the radar as well because of everything so maybe some you know sleeping giants in the NL east from a storyline standpoint yeah exactly I mean you're right I will talk about the bats in the Phillies and and yeah all the national there yeah and by the way there already we're dealing like the forgotten team looks like you're right could you imagine he's going to beat them last year and then this all came out and they were sharing a complex is all that would be so bad that it would be first of all you're right just in the west Palm Beach it would be really awkward at that complex second of all for baseball I mean thank god I didn't wait a second time in three years last year that would be it would be even worse than it is right now Scott Miller from bleacher report Turner sports big league

"The guy is pure entertainment. Better portray on your Eastern Conference all stars then. I probably won't be back on your pod to do that one. I don't have to to go out and I'm not saying trae young's bad choice either but you just by that logic you better put your young. It was more of a tiebreaker kind of thing where I just kind of. I decided if I'm deciding between him or giving Devon Booker his his finally has his first nod or towns I went with the the the guy who is just pure entertainment and still putting up monster numbers on a team. That's top three in the West. I mean is that I listen. I know the efficiency is bad. It's why I've always knocked Westbrook in the first place it you and I share the same general critique of him over the last several years including his MVP year but for purposes of all star especially all star reserves. I I'm not quibbling with it it'll be interesting to see what the coaches do. There is no statistics as for Russell Westbrook to meet the all star team Rohbock score numbers. Israeli it's not but those are the he doesn't even have that anymore Devon Booker's Ross Start Rob box. Numbers are just as good Donovan. The mitchells rob. Boxcar numbers are just as good mind and assist here there and I do have to there and I do have Mitchell in and I seriously seriously considered Devon Booker and and I think he's he's deserving Russell Westbrook's advanced that's our oracle all across them not horrible but their way below these other guys. The rockets are good because of James Harden. That's why the rockets are always In there in fact there are bad wind. James Harden doesn't play and Russell Westbrook does play which you know like I said I didn't say that that heavily with idea I'm not gonNA wait. That's so heavily here but in the absence of other compelling statistics saying they're Russell. Westbrook is an all-star I I just there just is no I looked I. CanNot I find physical case for all stores healthy thing. I'm GonNa make another absolutely squishy terrible case that you're going to just like just barf over as I make it. There's a certain amount of like I don't know inertia or just simply like if a guy's been an all star for six seven eight years running you gotta knock him out definitively. Typically I don't I don't disagree with that. Kevin Pelton talks about that all the time. The track record has to matter. And I'm fine with that I just don't I wait a little bit less than than most people in to to me. I just don't see a statistical case especially when you think about like yes. Numbers are good. What could other what what would Donald Mitchell do if he put up? Twenty four eight and seven if if breath on every single possession. He was wide open because two guys recovering. James Harden is point. His scoring would be higher whether his assistant rebounds would be as high. I don't know well. The shooting. Mitchell is shooting thirty six percent on threes. Westbrook shooting twenty three I think you would do pretty. Yeah well Another guy that I know would do well in that role because he did it. Is Chris Paul and in fact he was so good at it. That teams could not afford to double team James Harden in the way. They're doing now. Chris Chris. Paul is averaging sixteen point seven assists five rebounds forty seven percent overall thirty seven percent from three advanced that's off the charts. Here's as a staff. That's not advanced Chris. Paul in the last five minutes of close games thirty six of sixty six from the floor plus fifty seven. Chris Paul in the last has three minutes of close games. Fifteen thirty one from the floor plus eleven third. Chris Paul has been the best player in the NBA this year and it is not close. Chris Paul has been one of the best clutch players in the history of the NBA. Full Stop Chris. Paul's right elbow mid range jumper is arguably the single best late-game shot in the NBA. In the last fifteen. To Twenty Years Dirk Nowitzki would probably be the only one I think to me. That has an argument. Maybe you know I should say Katie to any any almost any Katie shot but that one Joe Johnson for like a three year span. Well Gioja that we're talking like it has been the Buzzer shot. Joe Johnson if it was not a buzzer shot at what it was only. It was only so much Joe Johnson. Time Chris Paul has been sensational this year. He's been better on offense than arrest despite the the fewer points per game and all that defensively. It's not close. He's been the best clutch player in the in the NBA for a team. That does not have a super duper amount of talent and they're five games. You're five hundred. He's in that left. Mitchell go bare Booker Ingram and took both jazz guys. And I shrug. I don't really feel passionately. Nationally about it It does it feel right to have to jazz guys. Feel great to have to jazz guys but what about that too but The PELICANS are twelve and twenty five in the sons are fourteen and twenty three and falling fast and so I just sorta used winning as the tiebreaker. I mean if you look at Mitchell's numbers booker's numbers they're they're very similar devon booker shooting better overall from the field defensively Mitchell is better in. It's not close so tiebreaker winner goes to Mitchell Ingram. MHM was tough men in because I will say part of the reason you have to watch the bad teams. I ain't got everything but when someone has a seasonal ingram you have to only watching can tell you. Is this guy playing winning basketball or is this guy putting up numbers. On a bad team Brandon. Ingram was playing winning basketball. The Way Brandon Ingram playing on both ends the floor. Now defensively the advance. That's unkind think. Too unkind I think he's better than they paint him but he still has progress. Typical of a young player He is playing winning. Winning basketball will translate a winning team. He's passing really well. He's shooting contested steadfast threes. He's super aggressive. Going to the RIM through contact through bodies through little little corridors. You don't think you can get through despite being toothpick. This is real. Yeah it's meaningful and if you want to put on the team I'm not gonNA argue. I just didn't in this case because 'cause I chose the to jazz guys in Chris Paul over him I don't feel great about any of those choices even towns. You could quibble with if he makes it. It'll be deserved. If Devon Booker makes it it it will be a deserved. He scored thirty or more like nine games in a row. I'm fine with any of those players to me. After Ingram and booker there was another gap and then he just SORTA gets ugly. It's like I was looking at like can I make a case for John Rant. Can I make a case for. CJ mccollum can I make a case for lamarcus Aldridge who sort of sneakily coming along lately and decided about two weeks ago. Hey No threes. That line someone's home with that line is for. It means something three I get three. Maybe I should shoot those. But that's what I went with. Towns Mitchell Gobert Chris Paul subject to change And I feel actually I feel bad for booker and Ingram but decent about those choices. You had booker off as well right. I had booker off but I wanted wanted to get him on. And you would be deserving. I honestly definitely deserving definitely deserving and listen I I agree with the way you just stated it in the case of I think it was Mitchell over over booker. Whoever booker just that winning being the tiebreaker? I don't agree in general even though I was just pounding the coaches for doing it this way. The coaches always talking about winning being so important so I want them to just be consistent with it. I don't think winning should be that big of a consideration for all star not in the same way as MVP when we talk about MVP and even all L. NBA. It's end of season awards for the full eighty two games and winning matters at that level and you're stats need to be more than just stats. But for an all star game which is only only about half the season and it's a an exhibition game and we don't we don't consider all started be as big of an honors all NBA. It's just a whole different different set of circumstances it the then you can be a numbers guy you can offense not no defense guy you can be a guy who has consistently somebody who's a fan favorite As long as there's it's warranted also by at least some of the production so I'm not like winning is not to me the most definitive most important important consideration. It's I think it should be weighed in and I think that yes. If you have a tough call between player a player be I think it's a fine tiebreaker. But I don't think it should be league the be all end. All I have no problem Devon Booker being an all star despite the sons being driven hookers averaging twenty six seven assists four rebounds on fifty one percent shooting thirty six percent from deep fifty seven percent from two. That's outrageous. His advanced numbers are all worth and Mitchell. And I think that's because of defense they're taking defense and I will say these advanced numbers including plus minus paint Devon Booker is one of the very worst defenders in the NBA. And I watched her game. Last night I watched sons a lot of watch every team a lot. I don't see it I don't see it. There's something that either I missing or the numbers are warping. Because I don't see a good defender I don't maybe even save average defender. I see someone who's prone to mistakes off the ball and this and that but I don't see trae young right I don't not try. I don't watch him and think that's one of the ten worst defensive players in the abyss. I'm watching wrong or missing stump stuff or so I just. I don't see it with him. So yes I considered his defense As as Disad is a disadvantage relative Mitchell bear and Paul. But I don't think it's as bad as those numbers are painting it to be. I would have no problem with them. Making the All star team by the way also if you if you again tiebreakers Donovan. Mitchell has also been insane and crunched this year. The jazz have been the single best crunch time team in the whole League Bogdanovich a crazy good in crunch time. You just can't have three youtall source. That's too much so again tiebreakers and you know the other instant conversation is like mantras. Harrell is averaging twenty points a game. I just can't take reserve but he's he doesn't have it it it you know there. Are there other guys. I mean I looked at the full list of guys I just. I was like let me be completed on this. I looked at guilty. Sal exander John Moran. CJ mccollum we against went down the drain Lamarcus derozen no way. The Spurs are so much better when they're on on the bench. porzingis merge Murray Buddy healed Jerry Jacks. I looked at everybody Diangelo Russel. He hasn't played enough. I Know Fox disqualify disqualify him for that but yeah no..

There's no Sean Jackson taking the top defense making everything else. There are no Alshon Jeffery. Brigham place there are no little Nelson Igor bubble screen Greensboro. Darren sproles bubble screens and right now looking to Seattle game just a couple of days that might not be any mile centers action. There might probably not going to be an Zakar. It's action either this week or maybe for the rest of the playoffs. I'm no doctor but a lacerated kidney that sounds like something you die from. Obviously he's not dead. He was in the hospital for a bit. But if you told me like hey shame just got a phone. Call your best friend. Big Mike He's not hospital. He has kidney I will just assume he done. That's the most insane L. lacerated kidney and he played the rest of the game. I don't know if that's malpractice by the medical staff. It wasn't diagnosed correctly or I should just be like kneel down in front his Atkinson Dude. You're one bed you know what dude reduced for plan like that impressive again. A guy called soft numerous times in his eagles career and while I stand by those comments particularly after that two thousand sixteen bengals game. The Dude has unbelievably rewritten his story in Philadelphia from a guy who seemed that he should be producing more than he was to now guy. WHO's a super bowl hero in God? Who played through a lacerated kidney but enough about that real quick yet the having the crappy players there with now they're crappy in the sense that they're the scrappy underdog? Obviously Greg Word has been playing while Boston's playing out of his mind. And you have guy like Dallas Goddard stepping up fulfilling promises a second round pick just two years back but Carson Wentz now has to play through him. There's no okay this play. It's going out Sean. I'm looking at Alshon. See when he's doing this play. Oh we need to get Zach is ten catches today. Here's a pass Zach underneath. Here's a pack on here. Yeah I'm faking left or another package. Underneath there is none of that. There are no mouths to feed beggars out there. Big Bob Davis isn't going on the sideline saying hey carson. We're my catches. Where am I touches today? Boston Scots out on the sideline Yana to staley touches. Jj are thankful whiteside. I don't even think of talks. I mean what are they. Basically took Burnett Tokyo's snaps whiteside. She's pick it just down. The sideline pouches run. Just running a straight line. If you're on the field or stay on the sideline doing Burnett forty one yard touchdown down get touched on just one reception unbelievable. He not complaining about his touch now. I'm not saying this in a way where I'm criticizing housing and Jeffrey and that they're you know ball hogs or selfish but they're guys who were veterans or guys who have made a lot of money in the groups who are applying for big and big contracts guys who won super bowls and guys who've Made Kiki pledges and Super Bowl winning games. They'RE GONNA want. There's I was them. I'd feel the same way but who doesn't feel that way. Greg Ward Greg. Words gone there and battling people don't even think he's widely probably deep down doesn't even consider himself off receiver. No always be quarterback to himself. This guy's gone out. There governed six balls yesterday. I am I am now is wide receiver non tied in but he seems like the new Zakar archetype and Hanes third and fourth in five hundred. Six we're looking for Greg word here. We're looking for Dow Scott across the mineral oil. Greg Gorden Greg. Why received one word? What a world? Now I do have to have at least one outstanding debt or bet however however you want to say it last podcast talking about the infamous burn the ships Monitor where Zakar to the pre game speech before the Dallas Game Ah a week and a half or so back and Said told the story about a sixteenth century Spanish conquistadors who told his minute and start them to burn their ships upon on their arrival in the Gulf of Mexico saying you either have one mission here either succeed or die there is no turning home there is no going back there is no. There's nothing in the back of her head saying that. Amanda for not doing well for losing we could just head there is no going on. There is no going home this to play out there is no going home. I loved it by sacrifice. A do or die game. Eagles one they do not. They're not died they succeeded and now they're NFC east champions so at the end of that podcast last week. I had said if the Eagles won the Super Bowl I am for sure. You're getting a burn the ships Tattoo on my arm on my leg on my forehead. I don't know yet but there will be one within a week of that game probably after the parade or maybe I'll in between and I'll show it off at the parade. Who knows maybe kiss my girlfriend in the Middle Street dern so I got that Tattoo from Nielsen super and the other bed I have outstanding? I made note on twitter twitter. If you're not follow me on twitter I listen. I don't know what you're doing for me at shameless under clancy tons of freezing eagles talk for sixers fan tear surely find other stuff like there but just during the game on the outpost on my motion just found me on their love it one thing. I've been beaten not drawn is and I. I wouldn't have done this yesterday. Because because it's such a special play either running for Dallas or save it for the playoffs there is no need to play. Run it against the giants meadowlands. You know I'm the guy who loves trick. Plays loves restrict plays it just you know. I'm not age. Twenty five hundred twenty six grow plan mad and I grew up playing backyard. Football group playing football in the street. My boys in South Philly up the back street and it just fun and Doug. Peterson has been aggressive. Using the guy who the playoffs. Two years ago ran that infamous flea flicker obviously ran. The phillies special ran in some quick misdirection and around to Nelson Adler. He's done that a bunch and even last week against Dallas. He tipped his hat a little bit. Dog and ahead. Greg Ward running as a wildcat. Now as I've said on this podcast and podcast before greg once. The starting quarterback for the University of Houston once led a thirteen in one campaign With a bowl. Victory once on the cover of sports illustrated sports illustrated Greg. What was on the cover as a quarterback now receiver so that guy can slim the rock rock he can throw booby milestone not not our mile sanders? V booby. Stop the styles so Greg Ward can throw the ball so there's really no reason they need a spark Seattle. Whether it's they win. They're doing it in Green Green Bay in San Fran in New Orleans. I don't care. I need to see a play for Boston. Scott comes in motion whence snaps it in shock on ended the Boston Scott. Right word comes is running back the other way. Boston's got pitches Greg Award and all hell breaks loose. People are charging In Greg Ward sales touchdown in I don't know Carson Wentz his hands John Burnett since Dallas got her tans. That plays Common Greg Ward. I will guarantee if the Eagles play at least two playoff games so they win against Seattle. Aw play another game. We will see at least one Greg Word Pass and if Greg Ward in one of these next two games on any game in the postseason if they make however far eagles make it greg word throws a touchdown pass and the Eagles win that game. I will go to the eagles pro shop down in South Philly at the Sports Complex the very next day and get a customized. Greg Ward Jersey in posted on twitter instagram. Whatever and I will wear to? The Eagles next game won't be in Philly likely. But I'll wear it when I'm watching the Awesome Greg word. My God any New Jersey. That'd be sick dude. It's a you know typical. If you're buying a Jersey one player that's going to be around forever A listener and reader newsletter. I was talking earlier. I don't have a current. He was players. Jersey Dawkins of Reggie white actually won the Reggie White and some Mitchell Nets giveaway at NFL anniversary. Silver Reggie White Jersey Stope Mitchell message super bowl sale back in twenty seventeen the week leading up to the Eagles Patriots Superbowl. They do a big sale every year. Mitchell Nastase at the flagship store at twelfth and Chestnut through big gotTa Jerome Brown Jersey for like seventy bucks super cheap unbelievable awards his award watching watching Super Bowl. They were so I got DOC INS. I got drone. Bram Got Reggie and back in twenty thirteen during a twenty-seven to nick foles mania. I bought a Nick Foles hers and Nobody Twenty Fourteen. I thought that it was obsolete but I was able to wear it again. you know last season postseason ward not the end of last season. And then so that's it. And then a reader bought me just add the kind of his heart guy. I think his name on twitter is Benjy. Two one five is like Duda I love your newsletter podcast or tweets. Whatever it's weird they don't have kernels player Jersey and he said how I'll get you? I was agreed serious Clearly bought in sent me got my shipping address bought from like fanatics or the NFL's website. Now Sean Jeffrey Jersey Alshon at Black Jerseys by ward who blackout game earlier here may or may not have blacked out of the game myself so I had that Alshon Jersey on my great alshon. They guaranteed his contract for twenty twenty. He'll be able to at least two years. He's a superhero. Even if he doesn't play the team the future will have great you know really where replay value. However you want to say now Shawn turn out for the air? The money's guaranteed for next year. But he's still might get cut or traded by this time next year by the beginning of the twenty twenty season Istomin have a current. He goes players. But maybe if Greg Word if greg word touchdown pass and wins the game ends a playoff hero. He will be back next year. I'm sure I'm certain he'll be on the eagles roster next year if that happens opening day week one week two whenever for the Eagles Open up their home game the stadium their first home opener. I will be there wearing Greg Word Jersey. Hi this is Cara. Swisher host areco decode. It's been an incredible two thousand nineteen for our show and we recently been honored with awards by Ad Week. "Dare I say having a more impressive. KRESA run than anything he did throughout his MVP copper twenty seventeen season look at the supporting cast look at the supporting cast. His wide receiver one. One is Greg Word in undrafted quarterback from Houston his running back one as a five six six hundred running back Boston. Scott looks like the second coming of Darren. It's pros out. There outplayed out. Played the last year's number over number two overall pygmy outplayed saquon. Barkley Played Saquon Markley for the second time this season both eagles giants Games Boston. Scott outperformed saquon Barkley. I love these guys that podcasts. I go back and listen to the from the bleachers. After the Miami Game Listen My tone saying someone on twitter. Mike Meech friend of the PODCAST. Good friend tweeted. You know a month ago. I hated every player in the eagles team in now right now I love them more than my family. And I jokingly said. That's the perfect now I'm not trying to just crush Nelson obviously. I'm not the biggest fan of his has helped him on the pod in my writing repeatedly but just when you have this new energy you have these new guys out there Greg Ward Award. Big Bob Davis Deontay Burnett come out of nowhere with a huge forty one yard. Catch they just give a crap. It just feels different. The energy is unmistakably different. And when you have this group of receivers out there. Compared to Alshon Jeffery Matt Collins Jordan Mathews in Nelson Aguilar indisputable fact Carson Wentz quickies having more fun out there..

This on money will probably listening to this on Tuesday today is is January or December thirtieth in those twenty eight days in those four weeks. The story of this eagle season has flipped so dramatically con m night shyamalan movie keeping it with a Philly theme. What a twist? What a twist to go from five and seven losing on the road and complete league? Barry I said on this podcast I had never been in my life on a single day for one single day. More embarrassed to be a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles to devote my entire life part of my livelihood. My second job. Whatever you WANNA call it tons of money for tickets merchandise food and beer and everything to watch games tailgating everything in my life revolved around the eagles for that moment? In time I had never been. I'm more embarrassed for a single moment. There been more seasons. There was Twenty fifteen there was twenty twelve. You know the Dream Team all of those things but for that single day I just thought what am I doing what am I doing. Why am I so invest in this? What am I doing with this team? We're doing the me twenty eight days later a movie. I have never seen in. But I assume it's about being a Philadelphia Eagles Fan 'cause twenty eight days later I'm good enough for a playoff run first ever playoff edition of this.

The Movie "Rudy" vs. The Actual Rudy

"Ryan. I imagine most people listening to this have scene Rudy. Yes but for those who have not who apparently Do not have cable. Television during the holidays grew up in the Soviet you couldn't have seen it. We'll we'll recap for them briefly Rudy is a story of Rudy Ruediger. Play by Sean Astin. He is a small kid from the Mid West. He spent his whole life dreaming of playing football football for Notre Dame. He tries and fails multiple times. Transfers to the school. Walks on Makes Vince Vaughn. Young Vince Vaughn very angry and the versions various things So he doesn't make the dress for any of the Games during his senior year and he quits but then his friend the head groundskeeper at Notre Dame fortune who. I'm pretty sure it's a composite character. I can fix that. It's not pretty sure it's one hundred percent sure. So he convinces him to return to the team gives a great speech So really does his and he is greeted by his teammates and Ryan. What happens next? Well you're missing a couple of slow collapse controls. Dutton Charles us to claps and a team along flat and then He dresses is teammates. Throw their jerseys down. Dan Devine's desk. I won't Rudy on on the roster. He makes the dress list and he gets in for three. Plays possible as the rudy chant. Cascades down from New Rodney's bleachers and they inserted into game one for a a horribly play kickoff coverage and then he almost has a sack on his first play from scrimmage does have a sack on his last play and third ever play and is carried off feel about his teammates to the chant Stewart. Together it was much better than what we just did. The first first time you saw rudy the movie. I'm older than you are. I saw rudy in the theater. I was in college and I think it was what WH- fall of ninety three and saw with my roommates and the interesting thing was we're students at the University of Tennessee. We had just been to Notre Dame for the first time all of us. We drove up to south southbound from Knoxville for a game and so what was amazing about watching. The movie is is just stadium. Had not changed the Tom Rudy. was there in the early seventies all the way up through the early nineties really all the way up until about five or six years ago. The stadium itself did not change at all. The scoreboard was the same. The old wooden bench seats that knute rockne installed old you know in the Nineteen Twenties Thirties. There were still in the stadium. Notre Dame is a divisive topic regardless whether good or bad and now this movie comes out and the hilarious thing about that movie was people love the movie and a lot of them would not admit it because it was about. I'm leaving but I also feel like I've watched rudy three hundred times especially around Christmas time always on cable and it's like one of the few things the family can agree on is just it's a great story. It is a college football equivalent equivalent of the miracle on ice or any underdog story so the movie is released in Nineteen ninety-three but that's not the only thing that that enters the public. I the Real Ridi Ruediger starts to make appearances to promote film is stories about obstacles of life. It's about people striving to succeed. It's about people saying people saying to him. You can't be this and you can't be that you can't have this job. Experts about or you can come in Notre Dame play football. I have the most traditional story the most biggest fantasy and it came through rudy is now seventy one years old. He lives in Henderson Nevada. Just outside Las Vegas. You flew out to meet him this summer. What was that like? It was an out of body experience which is tired phrase. But that's exactly how I felt and you walk up in your mind. You're kind of looking for Sean Sean. Astin and then you realize oh no wait this older gentleman in the Notre Dame windbreaker. That's the gum looking for wearing. Notre Dame windbreaker. Yeah in his official reason reason for that was awarded this so that you'll be able to recognize me. No this is. Hey there's rudy sitting there but what I've learned sense is that He pretty much wears that all the time. I I think people have their own idea about what he's like based on the movie but what does he really likes. He's rough around the edges. He's not as polished as you. Maybe expect a guy who makes his living as a motivational speaker be worries. We'll play in Ohio state man. You're coming in I'm bringing you. We're going to show the movie to the boys. Ace said all right Notre Dame movies. Don't worry about it as shit. This is not gonNA work. He drops off bombs. He calls everybody coach which he calls the waitress at the coffee. Bean coach where you WanNa go coach. Talk to you. There's June. He calls the song coach. He called me coach. He doesn't so much at some point. You start mimicking it. Not The president like talking to a friend of yours of the British accent. You start talking with British accent. I started calling about a coach by the end of the day. And I get where people might be rubbed the wrong way by Rudy but if you really listen to him he's got that infectious smile and it's just a storyteller he starts telling stories. You end up just being mesmerized by

"Punt kick dumped. I don't care what the score I respected miles but respect the disrespect of scoring just a tad bit more. I'm sure everyone the teams happy that you did that. But from a fan a crazy fan deranged fan perspective I would have loved. It rubbed it in their dumb faces Jason Garrett a likely has coast coached his last game and Philadelphia as a member of Dallas Cowboys Organization. And I will say I will mystery some Garrett I will miss his dunk lapse. I will miss it stupid stupid face. I will miss his lack of Beckham. I will miss his cowardice. I will miss his general overall incompetence because whenever Jason Garretson when your team look across the sideline you see Jason note that means you have a pretty good chance to win a day I see Jason Garrett. That'd be pretty good day for men pretty good day for me by solid Jason Garrett. Stay on the opposite side sideline. He's probably gone. I don't know they're going to hire Jerry. Jones Make Stephen Jones his son the head coach. Do something crazy Jerry. Jerry think outside of the box for your Matt Rolls Don't look for the next young great offensive coordinator don't promote Callan more. Stick with the stick with yourself. Keep it in the family. Make your son head coach. That'll shock the football world. That'll show them. WHO's boss? Jerry take my advice. I know. You're listening Dallas Qatar. My Guy Dallas got her huge Dallas Oscar Fan Probably a rough week for him Dallas Week given that I think when he got drafted and one of his first press conference is back in two thousand eighteen. April may twenty eight seen a reporter. Joey said Hey. Douse some Fanta talking to be considered changing her name the Philadelphia and he was so caught off guard. I think he was so uncomfortable by. But just imagine you're going your whole life and you know my name's Dallas and that's what you're just saying. Hey I'm Dallas and then you get to a city where your first name is the most hated word and the entire tristate area good for him though nine career high nine catches a career high ninety one receiving yards Came a big especially when Zach Ertz had some time with some bruised ribs Zach bow came back. Finish the game for SPEC there for God called soft a couple a little time throughout his career so I respect you comeback. You took a huge huge hit tape. The ribs came back out there. Produced opened things up for Dallas opened things up for Greg Word Mile Centers Bosco OSCO. You're warriors act your super hero or Super Bowl champion. We appreciate you in Philadelphia. Thank you God. Has that touchdown. He's a menace in the red zone. Eager rendering thing that sucks about the Eagles from between the twentieth is what makes them great in the red zone all their God. They basically have like fifteen tight ends. You know inside out Jeffrey. Who's now departed pardon on? IRR Urge Scott. All those guys are big bodies. Big Bob Davis even now when you have those guys in the red zone. It's unstoppable and that's why the Eagles I think. Think now have the longest streak of scoring in the red zone not just touchdowns but scoring overall with you. Know something in the high twenties of straight possessions where they've scored in the red zone and has off Carson Wentz hats off to some creative play calling from Doug Peterson great game by Doug. Great Game I dug except for those two field goals. I'm always of Jelly knocks home. Those three hundred and fifty five yard or we're not having this conversation because the eagles are getting those points but always got. WHO's I'm team aggressive I want? WBZ grasses prices possible fourth and three fourth fourth and five between the forties. Go for. Doug you're often says Ronin Carson Wentz is doing everything in his world to bring the Eagles NFC championship he's gone. It doesn't matter WHO's out. There is working for him he could scramble around good moving outside speed option outside spring writes Brent left Carson. Had It all yesterday it had an all making plays. His legs had a couple of read options that he kept. I love that I love keeping it and he made a couple of guys missed picked up five six yard carry on just those plays they finish for what four carries twenty two twenty six yards or something like that does that every game it keeps it depends on us from these rolling out and the red zone. The fender linebacker accurate. There has to make a choice. Are they going to rushing on Wednesday. Because they're running. We're GONNA drop back in worried about mile. Senators Dow Scott Zakar. It's catching the ball in the flat. What a first grade Christmas play can teach us about podcasts and background noise

"Signal to noise ratio. This is actually one of the things that I often talked to podcasters about what I'm consulting or even when I'm sharing strategies he's an insights in groups. I might not go into all of the details but it's one of the things that is often overlooked and it can make a huge difference in fact many times. The questions that we see are the questions that we here. Even though they're framed APP is something a really about signal to noise ratio for example. I have this recording in. Something's something's off. How do I fix it for my podcast. What about the best podcasting microphone could be about signal to noise ratio. What about how close do I need to be to the microphone. Or how do I get. Get rid of those popping P or close it sounds. or how many microphones do. I need to record a panel discussion. Pro Tip appear if you can. You want one per person okay. I'll just give you that one for free. All of these in many ways are either about or can be about signal to noise his ratio and also not making your editor crazy and I'm going to illustrate three underlying issues or kinds of noise and one fixed today when I talk about my my son's Christmas play at school so I'm GonNa go ahead and talk about that play and we'll come back and we'll talk about some of the takeaways. My son is in first grade. He had a Christmas player a Christmas program or a holiday program. I don't know exactly what they called it. But basically everybody that was in first grade across all of the different classes dressed up in red or green or some combination one of those and they sat them on the bleachers. So that they were in kind of a tiered format because there are a lot of them. They sat the parents down on the floor in chairs facing them in in the gymnasium and then they had this presentation and the presentation was really kind of interesting. It started off with a small group of the kids. Reciting something and then the whole whole group reciting something and they were divided into two large groups one on the left and one on the right and the teacher in charge. I'm assuming it was the music teacher. I don't know for sure I was trying to get them all into sync with each other is really interesting because the group on the left. It was almost like they were kind of dragging in the group on on the right was almost like they were racing and there were pockets of different conversations within the group as they were trying to recite things together was really kind of hard to understand until they all kind of got everything into sink and they finish finish that and then there was a little bit of exposition. Somebody had a microphone and said some things. I think Santa was supposed to do something or Mrs Claus. Somebody who's supposed to do something. Then and then they sang a song and then they had some more things where a small group of kids said something and then another small group and another small group. There's a lot of talking and as they were doing this. It was a really interesting thing because there was a family sitting next to me with a couple of small kids and a couple of larger kids and those kids were talking amongst themselves and some of the parents had their cameras. Emmers up trying to take pictures of their kid. All of that stuff was going on throughout the whole thing and the reality is when it's all over I have no idea. Yeah what the play was or what. The program was other than a Christmas program that my son was in. He was very good looking by the way he's rocking out some glasses and he was really looking good but I don't know what the story was. I know that there was some cookies involved or pretend cookies. There was a list of some kind. I can kind of infer some of this stuff because I understand the popular Christmas stories stories about Santa and reindeer and all of that kind of stuff but the end result is I don't understand a lot of what happened and truth be told if my kid wasn't in in it. I wouldn't have been there because I couldn't have followed it and that's what I want you to take away from this. If you're a podcast. There are some different kinds of noise that you might need to consider that were illustrated in this. And then maybe a strategy that you can apply the first kind of noise. I want to talk about the kids when they were trying to all talk at the same time it was. It was really interesting because there was this wash of sound coming and I couldn't understand the words because they were out of sync and they were all talking over each other until until they got in sync. I couldn't understand that and that to me speaks to noise in the delivery. And a Lotta Times podcasters. This can come through is and Dems or or incomplete thoughts that aren't completed or roundabout ways to get there that make it hard for people to understand what we're trying to say. I've probably done some of that today. I'm trying to get better at it. The next one was noise in the presentation environment so as the kids were talking like the person with the microphone was talking there. Were still some kids. who weren't it's supposed to be talking that we're in the presentation that were and it made it harder than to focus on and to hear the person who is supposed to be sharing even though they had the microphone that speaks to noise and the presentation environment and this also impacts podcasters? And we'll talk more about that in a second. The third kind of noise I wanted to talk about was noise in the listening environment. Think about those kids that were next to me that they weren't trying to be mean they were just making noise but the reality is many of your podcast listeners. There's are dealing with this as well and we'll talk about that in a second as well then the final strategy or the the final thing is that strategy so there were some parts of the presentation that were arguably more important. They were solo speaking parts. If you will and I know these were more important because the teachers took extra special care to make sure that those were more more possible to here than the others. By providing a microphone for those solo speaking parts. And as a podcast. A podcast. Senator and as a consultant. Why am I such a stickler about it. Because I know I've talked about this kind of thing on this show before. Well I'm a stickler about this because you can't control the listening environment environment that WHO's listening to you with is in their inviting you into their daily experience and that experience comes with noise so the more that we can do to minimize the noise in our delivery the things about our styles that make it hard for people to hear to understand the things that we can do to reduce the noise and our recording environment for example echo or room reverb fan noise them neighbors mowing the yard. The dogs barking the kids taking a bath. which is happening right right now and there might be some of that noise that makes it through? I'm hoping not because I've taken some measures to make sure that doesn't happen but the more that we can do that and then do what we can and to amplify or two point. Sonic spotlight on the most important parts. which is usually the dialogue and not the the soundtrack if there is one make it easier ear for people to understand what we're saying to connect with what we're trying to share and to take something away from what we're doing so that's why? I talk about signal to noise. Ratio is because what we can do is reduce it on our end so that there's more probability that people can hear us when they're driving to work or working out or mowing the yard or whatever they

If the Eagles are eight and six going into that game I will be the most hype person in the entire world on the PODCASTS. That week I will bring on some old guy might bring my dad and talk about what it's like growing up in Philly with my dad was born in nineteen ninety six years old so he grew up in the seventies seventies through the Nineties in Salt All those bandwagon cowboys fans in the air. I'm going to bring him. The Eagles are eight and six on bringing him on talking about how much we hate. The cowboys were hiding each shut up. And then we're going to start believing. The Eagles are GonNa win that game. They're GONNA win any ORCA in week. Seventeen and they're going to go on a plane from they're gonNA be insects. They're going to go into that game. I'm GonNA convince myself that they're GONNA win that Game Winning Division and then when playoff who the hell knows I'm gonNA convince myself they're GonNa win the whole thing. It's crazy like right now. I couldn't couldn't be more disheartened upset and embarrassed by the Eagles but realistically they're gonNa be eight and six next month nominee to be flipped over. Do a one eighty be ready for the division. It's crazy this is what the team does they. Just pull your hair round up they pull your hair up not out they pull your hair up but not out this team as any team in professional sports Other fan bases like this is such like a Herculean task. The follow other thirteen's the way it is the eagles sixers fan so maybe a little bit for that but outside of Philadelphia. I can't believe this is the most magical intolerable in grade and horrific perfect thing in the world to be again be back next we get for big win over the dolphins. I'll be right back ready to convince myself. That Carson Wentz Sup- laid again. The worst game of his career will be ready to lead the Eagles to a playoff game. What else would you expect from me? Besides being completely all over the place as I am as a normal person as I'm specifically about my feelings about the Philadelphia Eagles Eagles Fan Maral..

It's been six weeks in it's still not healed because he didn't get the surgery and even if he plays this year to be playing through pain just another situation where the Eagles medical staff is driving me insane I'm just pushing my hands up against my forehead and throwing my fingers through my hair I'm definitely gonna go ball from doing this. This is what the Eagles due to me I'm just getting all worked about injuries even after the dominating season season saving when they went on Sunday but then they went on Sunday make started I don't WanNa get too far ad the because the bears aren't too bad teams underplaying the jets we kinda say guaranteed win on the future there's a bye week coming up but I think that bobby huge all these injuries the Sean Nacho Rodham Tim Jernigan hopefully they can get some of these guys back in the quesion before he hit those two huge games new England Seattle again I don't WanNa get too much new England Seattle those are their own can of worms I'll have ought to say about New England certainly have a lot of smack talk and then we can talk about Seattle future after that where I'm scared to death Russell was and that's the only player in the world that related emanates me the only player that as an eagles fan makes me lose my bravado hyperbolic confidence for this team and you know every game I think eagles do I think the eagles are GonNa go under feet at every year absolutely not but do I think they're going to win each individual game yes does that make any sense no it doesn't but I don't care but Russell Wilson still scares me Yeah Eagles getting that went on Sunday Doug Pearson GonNa out coach his fellow Andy Reid Protege Matt Nagy Jordan Howard is going to tear them up are their defense up and make them look like fools for trading him away hopefully gay finally gets that hundred yard performance I'm calling going on record Jordan Howard twenty four touches a hundred six yards and a touchdown birds win birds when everyone goes nuts five and four going into the bye I gained back at the division lead bringing it all back home to more home games in a row against two great teams to showcase this eagles team is free I'm excited to get excited five and four one game away from five and four think where we were after that Dallas game held down in the jumps we were after that checking in Minnesota in Dallas in the way everyone wrote us off wrote this team off and yet they're not super bowl contenders maybe they're not eagles we thought they were boosting can make the playoffs when you reach the playoffs and you have Doug Peterson you have Carson Wentz magic happen take those guys every day against anyone that could face Gavin shot during the playoffs and you have those two guys leading your team get excited baseball truly it is awful I'm phillies writer Justin clue join me every week along with John Stolnis Liz grocer and Dr Trevor's drunk as we discussed all the ways the phillies have hurt us on our podcast hidden season as well as historical anecdotes.

"Bleacher report magazine Some interesting nuggets in there That's usually, how it goes you know long form for, me consists of. Reading it not for entertainment I read it to find something that is interesting that can be shared with the audience in any format that I dabble in that can be shared and then expanded. Upon a lot of times Very interesting comments getting made in these stories and they just kind of, like evaporate into the next paragraph and. That's one of the problems. I have, a long for especially when it comes to, monetize this content. It's great content and it's one big long article you could break it up into several different things and draw out the best parts at part one part two part ten of the Jimmy Garoppolo Interview and profile the, one thing that stands out to me Jimmy Garoppolo confidence it's another example to me of football players at the highest level have to be so confident they are delusional, and garoppolos delusion was that he was better than Tom Brady which look Tom Brady thought he, was better than Drew Bledsoe and he was first of all and. Second of all Drew Bledsoe wasn't Tom Brady Drew Bledsoe didn't have five Super Bowl rings I knew that Brady was better than me, in my first day in the NFL, naturally you're the rookie and he's the veteran but you have to have that mindset that you want to be the, starter even when I was a little kid my brothers and everybody would play. Literally always, think I was going to win I wouldn't but I would always think that it's like when I. Go to New England when I got there I thought in my head I'm better than this dude It was always a quiet, confidence I would never speak That I'm better Well the confidence isn't quite anymore now that he's gone He, opened up and that's the key he opened up And maybe he said something that he wouldn't ordinarily said but he said, it, and I don't think it's. All that controversial because again Brady. Had the same mindset you have to have that mindset, if you are going to be successful on. Game, day you have to have that belief in yourself otherwise when you're back there in the pocket in the middle of a crucible that, has seventy thousand people in the stands and, more importantly Twenty-one other people all doing things around you ten of them aimed at, helping you eleven of them aimed at. Hurting you literally You do what you gotta, do and you've got to be confident if you're not confident saw going. To crumble That's the thing that impressed you. The most about the profile was this over hyped melodramatic notion that almost died the day after he was. Traded I didn't see enough details, about this crash to lead me to conclude that he was going to die Yeah he's basically he gets word that he gets traded and he basically throws his junk into a suitcase gets into. A car, and he's, driving to get on. The private plane to take him to the forty Niners facility. Any almost gets into a car accident to the point where his driver has to drive the car into a ditch to avoid the car accident. I mean the whole the whole forty nine a revival could have been derailed before it even got started And that's all, you care about you don't care about Jimmy Garoppolo or the deal you definitely don't care about the driver the nameless faceless individual that you may have perished as well all you care about is how it was going to impact your forty. Niners I, believe if, you check my Twitter. Feed yesterday I was very complimentary of said driver you jerk Well. First, of all your your complimentary of the driver because he was responsible for avoiding the derailing, of the forty Niners resurgence again. It all comes back to your interest in seeing. The forty Niners improve not your human, interest in the life of Jimmy Garoppolo or the driver and. I've muted you on Twitter best move I ever made what the mute button. Is great because nobody knows that you've muted them, until you tell them probably shouldn't, have told you I'll just go ahead and block you Return the NFL not blocking, great players from staying in the league, even though maybe they should be suspended has the NFL softened under the. Substance abuse policy will live after. This.

Adam dirt's of course not just the leasing the Counting Crows buddy, huge, huge, Golden State Warriors fan, going all the way back to the seventies. He grew up mostly in the bay area. So we did talk his NBA fan of his warriors phantom, but spent a lot of it just talking about the twenty fifth anniversary of August and everything after I can't believe it's already the twenty fifth anniversary of that album. But that of course, the Counting Crows breakthrough album, just a really fun. Fascinating discussion, I, I'm I've ever gotten a chance to talk to to Adam and he was just a phenomenal guest, very generous with time in his thoughts and very excited for you guys to hear that podcast. So that'll be next week. And then I will be back after that to to see where the league stands after I get back from vacation.
