Tennis is back; James Blake discusses the challenges

"Hello. and. Welcome to the tennis podcast. It is Monday the third of August twenty, twenty and two. There is tennis actual tennis. Not, exhibition tennis competitive tennis featuring plays, we've heard of playing for ranking points and prize money. We haven't seen any of it yet. It's just been. It's just been qualifying for the weekend but at the Palermo WPA event does get underway the main draw in earnest. Later on today David's Matt I, Give You Tennis It has suddenly occurred to me that we were together when tennis was last to think. Remember when we were watching. Dubai. Was it when Jovic Matt. Watch. Kim Clijsters Return in my lounge. Yeah. That feels like a different lifetime. I. Think. I was. Kind of the last weekend of tennis, which was the Davis Cup qualifying which. Never, find run event, which is taking place to eighteen months after they. After they, qualified for it. And the even then there were. It was kind of in the background there were rumbling signs of covid nineteen. I think the airport I was at in Hungary actually had a case and they shut the airport down and but then two days later everything just shut down it's amazing how quickly it happened. Just. Tennis tennis is back and it came back with a tennis way because I think the first day of qualifying in Palermo ended gone to am in the morning. kind of like we're doing this again. Given there's no crowds to worry about a no corporate lunches to around the there is no excuse for that is the because he can stop playing at eight am. And you can play on his you can play on his many courses is as you want or need to I mean how how it is? So tennis is it like comfortingly reassuringly tennis. is finishing yeah but also stupid. We stopped terriers and your we. When you didn't go to the airport because Indian Wells was canceled. You had a fully packed suitcase. State fully packed for some time. What is status? Is still my bedroom floor it hasn't been unpacked is had items removed from I would describe it now as haw full. Because Yeah I've removed you know the old parachutes. Only items only items with an elasticated waste obviously because lockdown But yes, all items with an elasticated waste have been removed from it. And all items which you might have to wear a Nike shoe with awesome accessories they remain in the case. Keeping most of. My bedroom floor. I said I said I would leave it the like Tracy unmade beds for the duration of Tennessee's absence and I'm a woman of my word five months. Yup. There's no. Mouse. No no mouth. Remembering the mouse, the other day and thinking was that dream It was that feels like a different lifetime. The masses in the suitcase I know why inspect that regularly? Don't you don't joke about that because that is that is those are the dark thoughts 'cause my mind when I'm trying to get to sleep. So. Yes. My suitcase remains on unpacked a spouse. Now I should probably technically go to unpack it this afternoon before three PM, which is when right the main draw of Paloma starts in the UK. Literally part of the Furniture Knob? Yes. Okay. I will. I will consider that we WANNA pitch empty. I mean that will just be a pitch of an MTC case day K. Okay, sure and case with just a mouse corpse at the Boscovich. It's It's the content that everyone's waiting for you. Welcome. Seven terms of tennis. News from this week, there's been no sort of big bombshell news. The deadline of the thirty first of July has been put. On the US Open confirming. Wants him four whether or not? It was going ahead? We haven't had that sort of concrete hundred percent confirmation. From the US Open from everything we're hearing as much as the little concerned around a concern around everything we're hearing suggests that with a heck of a lot of regulations in place in and details of those those rules and regulations have been. Leaking sporadically of the last couple of weeks, it will be going ahead. I mean seems to me that the only outstanding detailed in terms of it being categoric is. The quarantine situation on reentering the you and I think I mean in some ways that is I don't know whether that might even be made easier by the fact that it sounds like Madrid isn't going to happen anymore in this is not quite such a rush to get back to to Europe in order to play the very next event.

Blake Ferguson placed on reserve/COVID-19 list by Miami Dolphins

"Blake Ferguson, who was the brother of Bill's long snapper, read Ferguson. Blake Ferguson is with the Dolphins. He was placed on the reserve Covert 19 list. Again. The list is either for players who have either tested positive for Corona virus or they're under quarantine because they have come in contact with someone who's been infected. The league does not have to say which category Each player falls in. But it's one of those two categories. So for what it's worth, because I think they were rooming together in the offseason read Ferguson's brother, Blake is on the reserve Covert 19 list for the Miami Dolphins. Wonder if anybody open up on that list for the Bills? Yeah, which, in addition to the opt out, that's enough Her story to watch whether while we know like Brown is on the list, Ah, but because the rookies went through testing, But today, the veteran start they're testing four days of covert testing, so perhaps, hopefully won't but perhaps we might see some bills. Players end up on this list again. Either you have it yourself, or if you're around someone who's been infected and you need to be quarantined. You go on the reserve Covert 19

The Story Behind Every Song on Taylor Swift’s folklore

"Right. Another Hollywood news. You know, Taylor Swift surprised us all when she released her album, folklore, and we didn't make it or break it for you. Not so long ago with her brand new single cardigan. And a lot of fans talking about. There's couple rumors around folklore, the album from Taylor Swift fans saying they think that Taylor Swift and her boyfriend, Joe Done Zo reel of the lyrics, and they think that even though Joe Alwyn believe that I say it always was credited with writing under Ah, a pen name, they think that he wrote some of the lyrics, but I guess some of the lyrics are also saying that they have broken up and fans are really upset about it. Same old, same overtime now. Also something else. And this is where you really have to be a major Taylor Swift fan to even know this. But Taylor Swift might have given away the name of Ryan Reynolds and Blake, Lively's third daughter. They welcome their three okay, but the name of their third daughter has not been publicized. In one of Taylor Swift songs. She goes on to talk about it. There are three names Betty I Nez and James. Well, Inez and James are the confirmed names of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds daughters. And so now fans are speculating that Betty is the name of the third. Wow, Interesting, Taylor Swift and they are all friends, and they all hang out. And then as She just cement the room or even further. Blake Lively, offered a lot of praise, talking about like you. Folklore is full of heart and soul, humor, passion, intelligence, what she goes on and on and on with every positive and you could say about the album. And so fans quickly noted that the lyrics to the song featured the three names Betty, Inez and James the ladder to being the names of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's Daughters. It's interesting. My wife, Kelly is a huge Taylor Swift fan. When I first met her like, she said, When she goes to bed, she would have a Taylor Swift playlist and she'd go to sleep and were first married. You know, to go to sleep. She'd just hit it and They're so if we go to sleep, listening, Taylor Swift every night she got the new album. She was mad at me. First of all that, you know, we didn't make it or break it for one of the cardigan issue, And I was she was like, Did you notice we have new album like Yeah. Came out two days ago. And she was. Why don't you tell me? I forgot This was so upset. I think she would know that some sort of fan club mailing. Yeah, but she's been working like nonstop. I'm pregnant. All stuff. Everything's been going like seven. She's seriously like under Iraq. She knows nothing going on, even says that And she start listen to us. Listen to the whole thing. It's right. Don't like it. It's a very sound one of the lifeguards over the weekend, said a What's up with your girl? Taylor Swift. You guys think of friends, Sailors just like you know, I just know that you played Taylor's with but she said, Yeah, it's just sad girl music. ISS felt like that. I like sad girl like Adele like where she's you know. Tom Amaro, Where's powerhouses like Wow, It's kind of like Oppressing, which is the type of music with the artist that she worked with her. She collaborated with on this album. People like bony there, I think there's a couple other and that's Their style. That's so you could hear it when you see who she's worked with, you kind of think. Oh, this's what I'm getting. Okay. It's different from any album she's ever done, though, and I didn't listen to all that. We played the card. We played Carnegie Hall Cardigan didn't like it. I mean, this is too slow for me, but I'm biased. I typically don't like most super slow, low energy songs. I know lots people that do, But so I am elicit the rest of it. But Me and Kelly Taylor. Swift could scream and be in agony and in killing that's great. Well, she won't because she's the top singer. You could make the most horrific sound my wife like. That's great now did not like it at all. Listen to the rest of it, and I did not like cardigan. We'll see though We'll

The US government is considering a TikTok ban

"TIKTOK has a history in Congress now. Josh Holly has basically been the main guy out to get to talk, but okay, so for the past year year and a half Josh Holly has had some hearings. He's invited to talk to testify, and then he's done these like wrestling style like hyper wheels on twitter, where he just like shows like an empty tick tock chair and he's like. Where are they and it's like we're guitar music album. Is Our personal information being made less secure by big tech, because of their partnerships with some of these questionable receive. At least. This has happened. We've been waiting all this kind of happened when Mike pompeo like randomly one night on Fox, news. It's like yeah. We're thinking about banning TIKTOK. And that's basically all he said, and then, of course, everyone's like what is happening, so the government can't really do a want to ban tiktok addy. Our colleague here on the policy dusted a wonderful story talking about all the ways that they could kind of get around. Banning them, but the one thing the government can do is banned other people in government from using. On their devices so. This week the House of A Josh Holly Bill that would ban federal employees from using Tiktok on their devices, and then just yesterday earlier this week. It made it through the Senate committee, so all it needs now is vote on the Senate floor to be approved signature and Tiktok. His banned from Federal Devices Military Tiktok is not a small community. No, it's huge. It's huge. It's huge I watch a lot of fighter jets land on aircraft carriers. Somebody took a very bad dad. TIKTOK I'll go. Is Very different from mine, so federal employees banned from using it. Is there any further motion like? Their moves right. You could like you can say it's a Chinese company. We don't want them like. We did it to Weiwei right, but we. We basically banned companies from buying equipment. How would you? How would you do that with Tiktok? We have this problem all the time. With like what regulator deals with tech, no one has any idea or they want a piece of it, and then they fight over it, and it's a nightmare, so that's part of the problem. We don't have in federal agency that really organizes around Blake Tech Regulation at all, so it's not like you can just go knocking on the. The door. It'd be like excuse me. Chairman Simon's please ban. Tiktok you can't do that so in the same way that the FCC jeep pie can be like no money goes to while away and then here's some money to dig it up and get it out of your system like we don't have the infrastructure for that and I think that's primarily the biggest problem here I mean. There's a couple of things that you could do with like foreign, Investment Sifi's. Sifi's stuff. It's all incredibly Wonky, but it's an incredibly difficult, if not impossible to just ban an APP, and that would have to do with like talking to apple and Google and APP stores and having you know what I mean having to com- completely direct what how they operate in some way. We just got done with a huge discussion about how apple has monopoly on after being on the iphone Google doesn't on Android, but they might may as well for. For most intensive purposes, especially here in the US, so if they can strong-arm apple and Google just pulling them off the APP store. That like it's pretty close I mean they're like Donald. Trump is like one iphone tariffs right away right? I mean but like I. Don't know if anyone is gonNA. Pull it off now, Casey. One thing that strikes me is even on my extremely lame Dad Tiktok I see so many creator saying is getting banned following instagram. It's a trend all over the place, and obviously trump and sort of the republican side of the the world are like Tiktok Chinese. We hate it. trumpet is I, think particularly pissed because of the rally narrative run TIKTOK that's Russell singles last week. Also delivers a lot of information to people in young voters in particular in Opaque Algorithm feed like that. It feels like yours zone has bubbled up beyond just a bunch of noise for you. Yeah, I mean like this is a Ben Thompson. Point which is that China has been in an information war with the United States for twenty years, and Americans have just pretended. It doesn't exist right like the point makes over, and over again is China started this fight? A social networks are not allowed to operate in China, and so the fact that. Albert Mickley based feed that is totally opaque. That is operating insider. Reporters should raise at least some national security concerns right like the kind of. Threat you worry about. Is You know what if the Communist Party decides that? It just wants to push a lot of pro-trump propaganda in the run-up to the election. You know it just because it would. It would so some chaos, and it would benefit them regardless of how likely you think that is to happen. The fact is that it could happen and. Should the the country have some sort of response to that? How should think about that? And you can take different views on it but I do think the thinking about what Tiktok is and how it could be used has been unsophisticated because as with every social product when it first got started. We all look at it and we think this is fun. This is a toy. Nothing bad could ever come from teenagers doing dances. And fast forward to the two thousand sixteen election has no one ever watched footloose I mean come on yeah. Look what happened. What state will allow dancing in that town? Lot of people think happy story I. Don't think that that is a movie about how town was ruined through dancing.

Kelly Reichardt First Cow

"Welcome to film spotting back in early March one of the most anticipated films of the year for US Josh Kelley, records first cow finally came to theaters, and then less than two weeks after its release the COVID nineteen pandemic force, the nation's movie theaters to close along with just about everything else meeting that most people never got a chance to see it. It it wasn't quite the last movie I saw pre pandemic. The penultimate I think I fit in birds of prey, just after I scout, that sounds right and man, my so grateful we were able to get first cow, because to have to sit for a few more months without seeing it as many people had, that would have been tortuous. Yeah, the pandemic. Records plans to come to Chicago when we were scheduled to sit down with her for an interview fast forward now to July first cow is now finally available to rent on demand, and we got a chance to talk to Kelly Reicher by phone later in the show will revisit our first cow review from back in March and hopefully more of you have had a chance to catch up with it now that it is available to rent I though it is our conversation with Kelly Reichardt in addition to first cow. Films include 2016 certain women that starred Kristen Stewart Laura, dern and her frequent collaborator Michelle Williams before that she offered us night moves that was about a trio of radical environmentalists, one of those played by Jesse Eisenberg and she gave us of course meek's cutoff. Which I think is still her masterpiece in Oregon trail set. Film that yeah, a lot of people consider among the very best of the last decade Wendy and Lucy was the film before that one. This was a doomed road trip movie again with Williams, and then the first film that I saw of Hers Atom I think you as well two thousand six's old joy, that one like I call centers on male friendship records debut film river of grass that came out back in nineteen, ninety four for first cow reichert return to the Pioneer Era Pacific northwest setting of Meek's cutoff. Cutoff for a tale of unlikely friendship capitalism, and yes, oil leaks in the movie, a cook from the east to play by John McEnroe joins a group of for trappers Oregon there. He meets Orion lease King Liu a Chinese immigrant, the to become friends and set out on a risky business venture together. Also, there is a cow. It's the first cow in the area. Josh indeed floating down the river in one of the movies more memorable images I'd say absolutely. Let's get to that conversation with Kelly Reicher now. Call me cookie. Mother died when I was born, and then my father died. I never stopped moving. It's a good thing stopped at the puzzle. No way for women to stop. have account cow in the. same place for cows. That's no place for white men. He's A. Since virginity here. Kelly thanks so much for coming back on spotting. It's great to have you nice to be here in virtually exactly so josh and I have both spoken very very favorably of the film, actually our favorite film of the year so far between us, and we both talked about it as almost a parable, a movie that in a story that seemingly very simple, the kind that maybe could even be passed down orally, and without any heavy-handedness or easy moralizing impart. Truths are we on the right path? Do you see I cal that way? I'm. A visual person so. Making it is a audible story I. How came from Jonathan Raymond's novel? The half life. I I'd have to think about it. I haven't thought about it in those terms of course moist thinking about it in images. Yes, so When you say. It's your favorite film. I don't know why you have to qualify it and say so far to stop watching other things. But seems fair. That seems fair. I'm sure you're like A. I think all those qualities topping out exist? I just yeah. I haven't thought about it. In terms that of course I I think maybe a better way to phrase that would have been if if you think about it and I know that this sounds almost like it's simplifying, but whether or not you think about this project, or any other is in terms of imparting kind of lesson, or is there. Is there some? Is there something you were trying to teach to the audience? No No. No I don't think so. I mean I. Know I would not want to think in those terms I mean I hope it has. Layers to it that there's things to think about and Questions to ask as far as. I mean ultimately I think like to focus on the friendship and kept blake quote in the beginning. That's in John's. Novel to remind myself that ultimately are making a film about friendship, and there are these teams of capitalism and You know running through out the new the but It has to be considered like just figuring out how to do seem sort of. Where the power lies in a scene, so it's not like I'm not thinking about those things, but I'm Only, in terms of how they relate to cooking, King Lou not in terms of. Some world message or cheek I World should not be being taught from me. That's for sure.

Restoring the American Chestnut

"Things got yeah. This novel pathogen ideas terrifying especially when it comes to like with covert. It's got some twenty billion people to work its way through. And the chestnut, almost being jack-of-all-trades in being widespread was probably one of the perfect recipe. Check boxes to say like okay. This is how you have. An invasion meltdown caused the collapse of species. It's scary and it's so sad, but at the same time. Is Much as I've never seen a large chestnut tree, or been able to appreciate them, for what they were were lucky and very fortunate that there are still sprouts there are these these trees are still on the landscape in some capacity. I mean it is kinda functionally extinct. I. Don't know if that's the proper scientific way of putting it, but. There's chestnuts still out there today. Where did the American Chestnut Foundation kind of say? We have to do something. What was the impetus for that and kind of winded it happen, and what was those early stages Kinda like for it? Sure so so functionally extinct. That's that's the term I think for for the American, just not in words Aso a lot of people think it's extinct or endangered or threatened. It's none of those things it doesn't fit any of those categories, because there are so many sprouts out the wild, so it was estimated before billion in the eighteen hundreds at the height of the species population. The blight swept through reduce them to basically sprouts, and the under story so most hardwoods. If you've got them down, they die of the blight bill re sprout. Sprout burn readily just not does that, so they sprout. They get the blake usually by age seven fifteen. They Divac, they re sprout. They get the blame back. They re sprout so so that's what you see in the forest today, the eastern us on their an estimated four, hundred thirty five million trees, so so lot still a lot, but most of them do not reach flowering stage. We think about two million, or so are probably still flowering on somewhere around point, five percent of the population is probably still flowering and producing knots. And that's what's been used at a lot of different breeding programs and eastern us when the blight I went through the USDA's stepped in a sense implant explorers to China to say hey, finding replacement for the great American Chestnut, and so they brought over. Chinese chestnut, so that's about Chinese just nuts on the landscape. They are all over the place. You see them on farms. The USDA real big push for people to plant Chinese chestnuts. My popol planted them on his farm, but they they couldn't replace the just the American chestnut, because they typically they have been bred for Russian. Typically don't grow as tall as the American chestnut. They are very branchy, so the timber isn't as of high quality all as America's. And so that was one of the first attempts to try and save the American chestnut, or restore it or replace it, and then, since then since the thirties on through, people have tried various breeding techniques. They've tried spraying. The fungus was something they've tried systemic fungicides in the fifties when nuclear radiation Israel real huge people were taking chestnuts and throwing them in nuclear reactors to get them to mutate totally serious. And, so you've got plantations of irradiated ulmer radiated chestnuts. Most of them are in Maryland. Okay up ground where a lot of that defense. Stuff was happening, so makes us. That might be another podcast, but but there's this uranium question to try and find resistance within native. American chestnuts and people went pretty much given hope in the seventies and eighties stuff still going on, but at a much lower rate, and in the early eighties there was a corn geneticist Charles Burnham. He said Hey. Trees or plants? Why don't we use plant breeding the we using corn and things like that and use that for trees as well to impart resistance. So, that was the start of the American nomination. Arkham Burnham and some other founders I got together they the various, all nonprofit, scientifically minded organizations and say hey, let's try something called back crossbreeding to get a light resistance, and who the American chestnut and when they started, they thought that blight resistance was very simple traits that it was only two or three genes that controlled this trade, and therefore back crossing would work after you get above three genes back. Crossing really isn't active. The the numbers required too high and astronomical talk about exponential. You need exponentially large. Populations as you increase the number of genes for traits, so it was a it was a noble thought and would that it that be that resistance was only controlled by three. We know now that light resistance is controlled by many martines than three so a while back crossing itself isn't the end all be all American chestnut restoration, TCI the American Chestnut Foundation has embarked on other avenues to try and restore the American chestnut, and but but that was what what began the foundation

Booms Sustainable Supersonic

"Supersonics and sustainability are two words. You rarely hear uttered together, but that's about to change. Boom supersonic is developing the first civil supersonic airliner of the twenty first century, and unlike the concord, it will be able to operate sustainably. Boom is building a one third scale demonstrator as a precursor to the overture, a seventy five seat mach two point two airliner it hopes will begin service later this decade. Senior Editor Guy North provides exclusive details about the boom project and a cover story that will appear in the June twenty nine edition of Aviation, week and space technology. He joins us here from Los Angeles so guy. What's the story? Joe, yeah well. It was It's been fascinating of course this whole idea of the renaissance, supersonic travel and You know we talked to area of course a couple of months ago and did a pretty good story about that evolving design We've seen that NASTAS X fifty nine low boom demonstrator is being assembled by Lockheed Martin right now in the skunkworks, so there's a lot of activity, but it goes. Boom boom, supersonic based in Colorado has been working for several years now on a design, which as you mentioned called the overture, and it's getting to the point now where the XP one demonstrator is kind of ready getting ready for prime time so that looking at rolling out this summer and putting into flight test next year. I should say by the way it's taken a lot longer than they or anybody else thought, but you know they're working their way through it and getting their. So how does the XP one demonstrator help with the development of the overture? Roy well good question in fact strangely enough. That's question number one that I put to Blake Shoal. WHO's the CEO of of boom and so I guess why not just let him tell us exactly what he told me. Right so the way XP one is it? Is it approving in flight? The key technologies we need sustainable, safe, economical, supersonic flight, and it had that you principally Amex materials and befall Trent, so using the statement of carbon fibre system that we would use them on overture, using the same design techniques where your ally in simulation of getting all the calibration day. in-flight Shit exactly how your models performed the real world, and then a similar approaches to high efficiency who supersonic intakes they can big difference, overall performance and it's. It's really important. You do this in hardware. Just in the wind tunnel installation because when you do when you do concept studies. Near you're not forced to solve all the problems. You can leave little bits of things. It unfinished assumed we get get the rest of the way there, but sometimes the last ten percent of work is ninety percent of the innovation really happens. Now of course, the the thing about the demonstrator is that it's also beginning to kickstart the supply chain as well a loads by and large a supply chain. That's probably going to be quite different when the when the production version comes out but I think one of the things that really is interesting is the fact that that's The supply chain is very interested in supersonics and getting more so particularly as they finding pressure from the classic at bussing, Boeing supply chains way, you know Boeing an episode of having their issues, so supply China's looking for other outlets and other avenues. And of course, one of the key parts that supply China's the engine. Nobody's going to go anyway without without a good engine boom on at the point yet of being up to say particularly where they all with that and where the selections but. In, this question, I asked I asked bike. You know what the situation was, so this is what he had to say about. This supply China on propulsion. And when we started bill six years ago, frankly people thought we were crazy and It was the this was a thing. That was some bad idea. An audible and that's that's that's really changed, and you see across the industry of writing efforts. Supersonics were credible. And when that? When that starts to get internalized the supply chain people. Stop thinking like well. Is this worth doing. Back out instead they start thinking what if this happens part of it? At that changes that really changes a lot of the conversations and if you are. A big piece of your business comes from widebody aircraft and the most profitable passengers during the wide bodies into supersonic. That, it's actually a bad thing if you don't have a supersonic

"Looking bright as him being on the basketball court he has to get himself healthy. I think was the last three seasons. He's been in and out of the game and dealing with these injuries. And you gotTa give a lot of credit to the clippers. They sell this common you you know Blake Griffin has not been the player that he was when he was playing with the clippers. The follow that he's taken so at this point is time for him to focus on getting his his his body together breath again. We don't expect to see him on the court and this is a very exciting complying player. So that's the the tool of his game right WHO's APPALACHIA system. So he has to be able to get himself back home. According be the player that he wants was or we may not be seeing this again. Well he's now. How got he sort of joins? John Wall having one of the most toxic contracts in the league because of the repeated injuries again. Second Surgery on this. Just since last season he really doesn't have much of a choice. He in the Pistons he has to have the best he can and come back and make the best of the situation possibly can. That's really the only choice It's really unfortunate. It's really unfortunate because when you watch him play last season where. They found a niche for him with Dwayne Casey's offense he really had a phenomenal year all NBA. Va prove that he had more in the tank played hurt on that knee in the playoffs. Against the buck laughs. Yes yeah and I don't you know I don't even know if that has anything to do with any damage on that need but you really respected what he went through the last year To me this is just another indication. Indication of clarity for the Pistons They have to go through a rebuild route because you know a year ago they had Blake Griffin and a plan and a and a franchise his player. Now I don't know even if he returns what he'll be so I think it actually in a way the one upside from this as it should give the Pistons clarity and they certainly were having trade explorations for Andre Drummond. Maybe someone wants Derrick rose. We'll see what happens there with them. Andrei drums value. Just certainly the motivation to move from did for sure all right. "My issue now with christianity is i don't understand how how a religion that is following somebody who stood for these things in the bible you know they've talked about oh jesus would would he would eat with like the lep- the sinners of the cross last year isn't in yet in the bible. I'm not saying thing. This is my belief that in the bible or at least christians believe that say for instance homosexuality is a sin did but then you can't accept you. Don't get it why outright. Why can this person who you're supposed to be following. Do these things but you can't don't get me. You know what i mean. I i mean this is my favorite talk about. I'm just so put off by all that that like. I dunno i it's a bummer to say like but it just having grown up around all that and being immersed in it so much because you're not only sunday but monday through friday for me and again on wednesday going to chapel. I just don't understand how that makes any sense and that's only just one example. There's a lot of things can i go. I'll just put this to you. Maybe my greatest joy in life is realizing to me that would jesus saying and would all of the great teachers ears are saying all of spirituality boils down to you are not all of these transitory things that are passing all these false identities including your sexuality including your profession profession including your income including where you're from your family and it's like who you are is that in dwelling what we would call the holy spirit and the christian tradition shen the ottoman or the buddha nature that inward divinity. That's who you really are and jesus is going around saying look. It's not about who looks holy. Who's in the temple. 'cause i'm kicking it with these guys. I mean with these guys. I'm hanging out with mary magdalene all this stuff because he's trying to demonstrate that we're all in one thing together gather that there's one game happening and we're all equal beautiful dignified participants and we've taken that message jesus never came to create a religion he came to reform. He came to be a person but he reformed judaism. You're trying to correct some wrong thinking judaism. I'm not saying he was a jew. He was trying to change the way they went about. Being jewish that sounded antisemitic meant he went to change the way that he was jewish and how others were jewish in in the religious sense and that got turned into a religion because we can't it goes back to competition and ego wanna be the winners and we wanna prove that others are wrong and that's why schools are teaching you instead of what jesus would have done in my opinion. This is the <hes> the interconnectivity of these faiths were saying here's how to debate with these faiths to prove that they're wrong and you're right which is an ego trip who is proving who is wrong who is behind that debate. There's this there's this still quiet place in you you in you in me that has nothing to do with all of these identities and these words and these labels that we put on ourselves because all of that is passing away and that's what jesus is saying when he's kicking it with a tax collectors like you can't see past tax collector and you're saying the same. I'm all excited. You're saying the same mother fucking thing you can't see past someone's sexual sexual orientation that has absolutely zero effect on you right not not at all like again noted scandal uh-huh yeah we c k has the thing where he's talking about candle noted. "Man. I'm supposed to be here like you know like i came from nothing and now i'm here and it's like yeah you were. You're six eight and like the the strongest person ever. This is exactly what you're supposed to be doing tosa and i. I was going to say like i'm six ten two hundred sixty pounds and all i had to do to get that was eat and go outside a little like it's true. I was given rubin like yes. You have to lift weights and you have to do things but like that's not hard when you have a person a coach dedicated to telling you what ways to lift putting the weight on their hopefully. That's why with your four saltwater like someone telling you what to eat. Br of course someone should tell you what to eat. I see that the same thing as like someone knowing how to light a scene in a show someone you're the exact so someone should motherfucking be telling you what exactly and if you don't do it that's on you absolutely yeah but the scene is easier to control than a person. I mean like i have to imagine especially the way that we you know sort of worship celebrity just in general the men specially athletic celebrity. It must be tempting as you get bigger. I have a hard time imagining coaches. Let's take michael jordan. Let's take everybody middling that you play with it. How do you tell michael jordan what to do. There has to be an element. I'm in humility that you maintain. It must be hard for you. I mean i don't know much about your career sports wise but it's just like you've done some stuff. You're four-time eh six eighteen. I don't even when you make your sixteen time and the most valuable blake and like you were saying when you were young and hungry of course you're gonna do what the coach tells you and you're scared and is it harder. And how do you maintain taint humility humility. That's 'cause nobody's rapping about humility rap about your. That's what this thing right. Your talent talent level and your level of humility have to match. You know what i mean and a lot of times. They don't yeah when you when your talent level in your shoot you level a level of humility or guests self-awareness at the same time yeah match then you will continue to get better yeah if your talent is up here in your humility is up here. You're you're gonna keep saying like oh. I don't need to like or your self awareness. I don't need to work on this when you so. You can't really get better do you. Your talent is down down here and your humility. I mean that's just normal parks cicero worse than what you're saying. It's a little bit like a bell curve. You don't want to little little humility. You also probably don't want too much. We don't need to show that for sure. Everybody knows you need to have a certain level of confidence to do anything i i think i'm even trying to separate separate humility and confidence. Do you know what i mean. You can be confident in your ability and still be humble. Yeah you know what i mean. That's interesting and i i probably cried and explain that the right way but it's in my mind those like the guys that are very very good and get better for the most apart are pretty humble like there was a kind of this new wave of guys like the kevin durant and the steph currys and all those guys that had come into the n._b._a. Who are so good and they're also pretty humble and self aware of like what they are and what they aren't feel like. The comedy is crazy with i just said i don't know either of those. Men are but like. I couldn't two of the mess. He's gonna show me five photos there in basketball uniforms all of them. I don't know who those those people. I see that like with comedy..

"You walk yeah. You made it weird with the homes. Look what's happening. Where does this is blake. Griffin who somebody somebody explain to me that he plays he plays basketball. I know blake as a as a guy and as a comedian as somebody that i did shows with in montreal we actually roasted one another as part of one of jefferson's rose battles in montreal and we had a wonderful time and really hit it off and i wanted to invite him on the show to talk about comedy. We talk a little bit about basketball but as you guys know i'm not i'm not a huge fan of the all round unball. The old round ball is all the fans got but we still obviously had an incredible chat and as i always say let's get to it as quickly as possible a couple of things to plug up top my book comedy sex god is available now <hes> i also have a couple of standup dates coming coming at ya if you're going to be in l._a. September twenty sixth is special show with me and a special guest. I don't think i can promote who it is but let's just say it might be my favorite stand up comedian and very very dear friend of mine. One of my oldest friends and those are the hints. I'll give largo dash l. A. dot com for.

"I guess i can say it because i mean at this point. It's been a thousand times on the show and then he called her and this is where things get really hard for me to understand. He calls her and says hey kaelin. This relationship like this hookup or whatever it was like was is it in our best interest in her words. It was a mistake. Can we keep it a secret so we can both enjoy paradise. I think that's where he was coming from. Can we both both enjoy paradise and keep this a secret ashley. I want to hear your opinion on how this all plays out and where blake went wrong. <hes> go wrong. Blake pretty much went wrong when he intended to hook up with anyone outside christina i think if he had dated christina in the real world and then like she came into paradise it'd be one thing that's kind of like klay in angela but when he started hooking picking up in and like not in a committed sort of way with multiple women that's where he started to. That's when he really went wrong. What was the first part of that question so he messes kaelin who yeah why didn't he just drop it why he say like. I think this relationship is a mistake. I think he realized it was a mistake stake when he slept with both girls in one weekend and he was like this is getting a look really bad impaired is somebody must have warned him. Ben was honestly it was not me what i i'll tell you. What advice i gave blake is because i had been with him and christina like i knew there hanging out. That wasn't really a secret. I don't think anybody buddy about the ins and outs of what he did personally. I think my advice to him was to make sure that you've maybe it was me because i said make sure you've all these girls on paradise and he said he had and i i think in his mind. I don't know if it's a his defense or not. I think he thought that like that conversation with kaelin. Maybe do you not worded correctly or appropriately and maybe we should get his sykes. We don't know we will hear it. I think he thought that was like a break and i think he thought that was like a fair break-up for them to say hey. This isn't going anywhere. Can we both go to paradise and see what's see what happens and for you. Is that a break up like in the words that she saying to wells. Does it feel like you would take as as a woman or just as a person as a break-up. I think i would take it as a break up but i don't think that's her point here. I think our the point is that like she wants to protect these other because she's not trying to get back with them. She doesn't want to be with him at all. She's just trying to protect these other women from these fantasy thoughts they have about him that she believes is completely not true so she's mad like we see that there is no doubt that that kaelin is mad at blake like there is she came to paradise in my wrong in this. She came to paradise on a mission. She came superior is on a mission yeah. She came to paradise on a mission to let everybody know that blake is not the guy they think that they think he is so here's my critique the situation. We don't know a lot about it yet. I i love this. I don't love in listeners owners. You're going to disagree with me and i want you to. I want you to help me understand this ashley. I want you to help me understand this. I don't love anybody. Brings like waits until paradise to have conflict. You don't like it when people wait till paradise to have conflict yeah like i. I don't like i i would like to think that if you had an issue with a guy in the real world and he was doing whatever a player and he was you know mistreating people whatever whatever's whatever's happening here that you would not wait until you're on national television to then go at him. Ooh but some told me i'm wrong..

"Does it really work like. Do you really think it can work. I think paradise it is is proving that question completely like yes. It definitely can work totally awesome diverg. Hey so with that sentiment in that kind of energy. Let's walk in to the first episode of paradise ashley. We said it before as we were talking. We've got more more and more emails about this so many opinions but this episode really did kind of revolve around blake but for the sake of like our conversation and who else are you excited about watching the season. Danny de should probably stop eating the pizza. Sorry yes so. I think maybe we all know that story. Line is going to be unique to the bachelor. <hes> she had a conversation with hand on the beginning of the episode about how she sees herself as actually fluid so that's really interesting. She had somebody that she was seeing at home. That was a girl but it seems like she's hitting it off with derek in paradise and and then i think we're all very excited well to blake but besides blake <hes> kaelin and how she can how she's going to like get <music> expose lake vattel these superfund. Nobody thinks that it was interesting how she kept talking about well. He wants to keep this a secret secret and it's a secret and it's a big secret. She just incessantly talked today dead. I noticed that too like there's three different sections of the episode where she basically says the exact same they. They really just wanted to be like you guys. Get this right you get. How crazy roses is this whole thing. Here's my first opinion and it comes off preventative blake so like this is like let's preface it by saying. This paradise gets super awkward for us because you're like way more friends with paired aired is cast than we are with the lead to the show because you know the lead to the show they are like you know running things they don't get time to like go on these iheart trips with us and hang out yeah they are like the we like interview them like we interview them interview them but with the bachelor paradise casts we like hang hang out with them so it's definitely like we teach guitar this fine line kinda critique our friends but then we also like celebrate our affreux lit up to i have to criticize poor little analysts. Who's one of our very good friends but i did think she. I'm getting the feeling she's sticking her nose somewhere somewhere where it doesn't belong with that thing yeah oh yeah because she wants to get obviously angela drama with clay and clay's making they're making. It seem like angela and clear. I like left things off on a good note but i don't think they did based on what i know off scene so as amy was saying this is one of our closest friends blake ashley's right this gets weird for me <hes> because in all transparency blade i met before he went on paradise like a before he went to discuss like you mean the bachelorette..
