"Eighth in defense among playoff teams are tenth and defense claim. Seems you know like average and wins the championship because they have an elite offense that doesn't like invalidate the importance of defensively. If that's indeed what happens. It shows that even a team like that with those three guys. The third best player on the team just finished fifty forty nine before the season with those three guys even they are going to have to hit a baseline of defensive competency to win the title. I don't think they could be last in defense and win the title. I think they know that. I think they know they have to be bound. They don't have to play defense. Even that team with that level of skill is not going to be able to half ass on defense or terrible defensive when the chip show or if they are then they're just that good offensively. I don't know. I think. I think two things i think. I don't think they're that bad defensively. They haven't been the last month or two i. I think you know they've done done a competent job. Like and i'm interested in who they play as well in the playoffs. I think around those three guys you know are they gonna play the andre jordan or blake griffin or claxton. Half and i think what they built in because they play. They're not constrained starting lineup wise. Like he's like to me they're gonna start four guys. There are three guys in joe harris and the fifth guy is going to be up in the air because they've done it all year. It's not going to be a shock to anybody if somebody goes from starter to not plan. I think that's interesting. I think i've really been intrigued. By what Steve nash has done there but i don't think they're gonna be sixteen in defense and win the championship. I don't i. I think you're gonna see a team. That's historically good on offense and they're like you said the word they don't have to be great they have to be competent and i think because they're experienced they will play competent defense. Obviously bruce brown's got a lot of attention claxton. Is i was looking up by defensive defensive player of the year research. They you know all this. I know this fancy tracking data. We have measures you know when a defender is contesting shots or the key is the closest to the guy shooting. How much do those offensive players underperform. There what we would expect they would shoot based on where the shot is who the players claxton was number one on the list among like what biggest negative differential wrote. That means anything but you look at it matches. Certainly what i've seen. And i also think the unsown he's not unsung in brooklyn but jeff green has been sensational for them. I'm b- on. Both ends of the floor has been absolutely sensational. And what a what an interesting career. Arc for him to be sort of over hyped. Probably the wrong word but you know there was a moment. You're going to be part of the big three or whatever and oklahoma city goes to boston. Has the heart. Condition is kind of lost in the wilderness. Started to rebuild himself a little bit on that team that made the finals. He's just become a absolutely perfect role player at the end of his career. He's got a really interesting. Nba really does longevity. And also it just shows you if somehow through all the selfridge selfishness that we promote in the league. Right if you can stay unselfish and you can give to your team and your teammates and play a style. That is for your team. You have a chance to always play pretty good basketball and like jeff green like was he overdrafted as five. I think his career would tell you. Yes right you're hoping for a store. There did he turn out to be a star. No do you think brooklyn cares. No like they have a really good compliment because he knows how to play basketball. He knows how to guard in this league. He knows how to pass. it can handle he can cut. He makes enough shots. And and i think you know that's where blake griffin he's undervalued right now because he's not what once was but i'll tell you what he could pass can shoot. He'll step in front of people and and take charges and he gives versatility. So i think sean marks has done a remarkable job obviously assembling the big three that they have is like amazing but he's also done a really good job of putting know good complementary players around his better three players. Let's get back to this game. Because i couldn't be hyped enough for this game it just to the it's so fitting that the biggest play in game in this first year where it's this. Is everyone sort of like this. Is a thing is lebron steph. Because so much of the last ten to whatever years nba history involves those guys going head to head on the biggest stage and they are again interrupted right there for one second. Can you imagine everybody. Who's for the play in game. If one of those two happens to get eliminated you're going to see a turn. What a stupid idea. The tv partners in particular because they will just lose ratings out the wazoo. So i'm going to say what what the i said. I've said this before i just. Let's say the lakers go out. Like i think the warriors going out.

"Into the lottery. They have the number two pick over and over. They got this greg. Good young core group. A guy is in those guys actually turned out pretty good ones. It's pretty good now brandon. Ingram looks pretty. Good at joyce randall. As we know what's really good. The angela russell is doing well up in minnesota kuzma kuzma. Yeah it was well. He wasn't allowed you. Uk we'll put him in mice young team in a nice young coach and then they had a chance to get lebron bigger time land. You also have a chance to get a couple of really big good players. A point guard particularly Not subtle i mean having derrick rose's doing great and you know payton's gooden quickly but come on if we could get a star younger point. God i mean here's the thing. Anthony davis would know orleans. What seven years before he left that. La dame's report seventy-nine Lebron was with the cavalry is seven years before he went to miami. I mean here's what i'm saying about stack teams if kevin durant and kyrie irving had come to new york like somebody had played the garden and told them they were going to without kevin durant knowing anything back I'm not sure that i would have been mad at. It might have been mad. you know. he's a funny thing. James harden who we all just talk as a strip club aficionado has turned out to be in my mind like the most important part of that t agree on. I was gonna vote for him. He got hurt. I mean really. He was like unbelievable. I know brian. You have these long debates with. Tim macmahon about his always started the year in houston and he was dogging it and he was really bad in houston. And i'm like yeah. But when he got to the nets he was amazing and by the way he told you. Send i'm out of here and took that long to trade him so you know what about blake griffin. I mean everybody wrote him off an era playing badly in brooklyn so the point is what i was trying to say. Brain is that i watch all the games. I watch the lakers games. I watch the clippers games. I have in the past. Idp are like four games. I i literally. I'm following all of this. And i don't think i mean i. I hate to say that. I have realistic. Expectations of how for the knicks can go. I would like to see them. Get out of the first-round very much if they did. Who would they then have to play in milwaukee miami or somebody they likely have philadelphia. I don't want to assume anything. But they'd like gotta tell you something. Here's how strongly i feel about the knicks versus knits. Everybody says to me. Oh case off the knicks dot. When don't you really want the nets. No no i want philly. I mean really i love joel embiid. I just love doc rivers and the mona just cover story the espn gun rights And i saw a piece on. And i texted her rada was. It was really good. She should be going to be interviews. Espn at any rate. But bottom line. Is i think that if you can get some really big stars. And we've proven to people now that the organization is run well by people who know what they're doing and we already have some really good players there and we have the best asset aside for money is that i had seen mohammed ali. I saw frank sinatra there. I saw the pope there as seen everybody from zeppelin stones to a down there. There's just no place like it's like it. No you know at least that. Here's what's interesting the lakers had l. a. Had hollywood they had prestige. They had banners in history. And they were selling that to free agents burr years and nobody took it show. Nobody token cake when you come here of. Be a big star. The last guy was impressed by now. Shaquille o'neal gay and he was right. It worked out really well for him in la but toby bryant always used to say the person who's gonna take the torch for me k. The prison i'm getting a torch to is going to want it. We're not going to have to sell them. We're not gonna have to convince them. They already know they don't need to. They already. Know what it's like to play for historic franchise with all those banners and they want the responsibility and more importantly they want to stage. And i think what's been important for the next is. They've had plenty of coaches and plenty of management. People like phil jackson who wanted the stage because they understand what it means to win new york into win with the next they understand what it would mean on an mba style because they know what it was like when the next were good they like in the city. I think there are players know. I think there are players. Who want that. But they have not thought kevin durant in some people thought it was kevin durant. Kevin durant one on one of his name. The nixing was coming here so you know. Let's let's let's not really get a lot of alive it is. Did.

Brooklyn Nets make waves for bringing Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge to New York

"It up. The Brooklyn Nets are now a quote super team. I mean, they kind of already were after they traded for James Harden earlier in the season, the pair with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant, but now that they've acquired Blake Griffin and LaMarcus Aldridge via buyouts, the cynical MBA social media sphere is crying. Foul. This nonsense has to stop all your lies. Most have been hating hard on both Alders and Blakes is gained for claiming them washed up has been, But now that they can ride the coattails of the Nets Big three and potentially win a championship. It's unfair. Come on, then. That's your doing what any organization would do if given the opportunity, acquire as much talent as possible, and if they do win a championship?

Detroit Pistons will sit Blake Griffin while team considers trade, buyout

"Watson routes give espn dot com has reported that not only. Is andre drummond. Kind of getting shut down for this whole trade talk discussion but also his former detroit. Pistons teammate blake griffin. It sounds like we'll be held out of the lineup. Until they can sort of figure out what his next move is is there a trade available for blake griffin or does this have to be a very extensive buyout situation where you know blazing to give some money out to get his freedom to go play for a good team. How do you resolve. This blake griffin situation. And why are they going to shut him down. I mean he's been very rough. So far this season i think a lot of people have noticed that he hasn't had a single dunk all year. Which just seems incomprehensible for the player. He was earlier in his career. He's basically a three point line. Two three point line Shooter at this point if you wanna put it that way in terms of his impact Is there a way out for detroit. Here or what are they doing man the blake griffin situation is is pretty rough Yeah he just hasn't had a very good season not moving. While he's only thirty one which is like hard to believe. Honestly i you just look at them and you think that. He's like in his late thirties. Ve how long he's been in our like our collective conscience and how great he used to be You would like to think that he could have an impact a positive impact on a championship contender. I don't know if that's possible anymore. Especially when he's not hitting the three ball and he's not hitting the three ball even though he takes a bunch of them so i don't know man like it will be. It'll be really interesting if they do. Waive him even though like. I don't have the limit. I'm trying to find the contract numbers. I know he's still oh quite a bit of money. So that's gonna be really interested this year. It's thirty six point five next year. He's got a player option for thirty eight point nine. Oh so you're not gonna get anything close to that this summer. So the buyouts to have to kind of reflect that if they did kind of pursue that direction mean maybe. They're just trying to hope that they can construct a trade to dump him onto someone else's someone else eats that money next year. I don't know how you really get out of that. I mean it could be a situation where they've just decided look man like your body's not they're just take some time and hope that you can kind of get into a better spot but mean it does kind of look unsalvageable for him at this point you know and i hate to say that because there were times for derrick rose where looked unsalvageable to and he's come back to make himself like a valuable role player in certain situation You know is there. A role for a blake griffin lake career bench renaissance where he follows the carmelo anthony model right and he's only play in like sixteen minutes a game and he gives you good sixteen eighteen minutes and that's it Could that be like a second chapter for him. I don't know. But i think this idea of him as fulltime starter. Impact guy or major contributor is is basically done.

"He plays four years in high school for his father as the coach, his brothers there for two years. Two Years Yeah Yeah. They win the State Championship. Four Years, O., four time state share and listen to their record over those four years is a hundred and six to six losses over those four years one hundred six games to six losses. Due, so so blake is a phenom in his brother convinces him to go to Oklahoma, which was at that time pretty unconventional right for what standout high school player you are, you could've gone to bigger schools right? Yeah, I think most in that that time most of the top players in the class would go to like the Dukes Kansas, and the you know those in. Did you and your brother play together? Oklahoma two years. Yeah, then we both got drafted the same year get! Get the fuck out so okay so I don't know much about your brother. Do you guys play the same position? My like my sophomore year I stayed two years in college. I was the center and he was a power for it and then I be a power forwards, so he sort of went from being a for for forward when he got to the NBA now never we play together. Okay, I have to assume he was better than you when you were young. Yeah! He was the person I was constantly chasing the did you so relate to Jordan? When he was talking about playing his older brother, just wanting the dad to see that he beat them oh? Yeah! I looked up to him. You know still to this day one of my best friends and like very close, but we will just go head to head. We'd fight every day because of sports. You know never justified. It was always because he beat me in something I just had to, you know. was there an exact moment where you're like all my autumn better? Yeah, I think a certain point. We stopped like fighting, but we would always play one on one and I remember like he says the same thing that sorta happened. When he left for college and I was still there, so like the reason we won four state championships. My first two years, he was the best player in the state, and he just dominated so like I got to sort as a freshman sophomore discount like ride on his coat tails, and then when he left. I, guess SORTA when I like came into my own as a player. There was a time where I beat him in one on, but like I don't. Particularly like credits it just because. Variables, but yeah, there's a moment where like you know that you can beat him. Because one on ones a different than five. You know what I mean. Yeah, you might catch somebody one day. There's a moment where I'm like. Oh yeah, I got him once I have that I got him like I'm never losing that competence. You know you just beat the best player you've ever played against probably in your mind and also your basketball hero. That's tangible if they can touch, you know what I mean because I wasn't around. Be Guys I wouldn't around a lot of. Of College guys so like that was like the Guy I was chasing his. Yeah, now that you have done all the things. Where does winning those high school? Championships rank on your pride scale fraud scale it up there because like it's high school and we were in a smaller class. It's like we did the absolute best that we were supposed to do, so we did it and I also took high school basketball. We all took it so seriously. From the time my dad got to this school to start coaching..

"Player and very like we had out here in Vegas gained all of the players on that team Blake Griffin. All of the young guys coming up and giving me hugs and kisses. And thank you me because you know in that situation just in terms of dollars from Lebron James. He's got an extra one hundred million dollars. Toby gotta one extra one hundred million dollars Lake Griffin got an extra fifty million dollars Kevin Durant who give me a big hug and kiss each got seventy five million dollars extra so the number one dollars and sense that give you an example of what it is because with with four years have yet to wait four years after your high school graduate. You wouldn't lose that kind of capital and you lose that plant on you will lose four entitled number. That will help them get into the hall. Laid on those numbers would be race. And you don't know what happened four years then in College Spencer Haywood Aba Nba Legend and hall of Famer. Hey will always be remembered that the person opened the door for underclassmen college basketball players to leave college early to enter the NBA thereby creating the Spencer Haywood Rule Haywood attended the University of Detroit and help the US Olympic team to a gold medal at the nineteen sixty eight summer games in Mexico City. Nineteen sixty eight. After two years in college he decided to enter the NBA draft citing family financial hardship the NBA however at the time for players entering the draft until four years. After the high school graduation. Hey would then sign with the ABA. Denver rockets play one season leading the league in scoring and rebounding as a rookie since he now had a professional season under his belt he decided to challenge the NBA rule. Once again and signed with the Seattle Supersonics in one thousand nine hundred sixty nine the NBA wasn't having it. Hey will the league all the way to the US or frame court and one on September eleven? Two Thousand Fifteen. He wasn't Tryin Naismith Basketball Hall of fame. I'm John Johansen Junior and welcome to another edition of and Black America on this week's program. Aba An NBA Legend and hall of Famer Semester. Haywood in Black America. Charles Barkley went out on a limb when this stuff was acting when they were acting crazy. And I'm they missed me like the last time of going into the hall of fame and I was like put on the backburner right house. Barclay stepped up and said on. Nuff is enough and did it publicly. He did it every way you said enough is enough now. This is not right and he stood up as a player and he started educating young players. Like do y'all know who is in our presence with Spencer Haywood Blah Blah. And he started talking about. You know there's like three cases that changed the face of force in one dispenser Haywood Heywood versus the NBA. I went to the Supreme Court and then play a young player. Started like Whoa wait a minute. I know him I see him but I never knew that until Charles was the one that should should should be there. And he's my what you call. My advocate advocate is Just to a good person. Just a wonderful person. Spencer Haywood won Olympic gold medal in one thousand nine hundred sixty eight at age nineteen and signed with the Seattle Supersonics two years later after dominating the ABA and a case that went to the US Supreme Court he sued the NBA or rule that prohibited players being draft until the league until they waited for years after graduating from high school. He won that case and nineteen eighty. He won a world championship with the Los Angeles Lakers as a twenty rookie in nineteen sixty nine. Seventy season he led the American Basketball Association both scoring and rebounding and was named the League's Most Valuable Player and rookie of the year. One on April twenty seven nineteen forty nine and silver city Mississippi into a family of Chen Children Hayward grew up in a dying era of American history. His mother picked cotton for two dollars a day and Heywood joined her in the field at the age of five hundred sixty four he moved to Chicago then to Detroit in the motor city. He leads pershing high school to the one thousand nine hundred sixty seven Michigan class. A State Basketball Championship. He went on to a stellar careers at Trinidad State Junior College and the University of Detroit in the summer of nineteen nine hundred sixty eight. He helped the United States to a gold medal at the Olympic Games in Mexico City on September. The eleventh. Two Thousand Fifteen. Hey what was inducted into Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of fame? My first reaction was You know is this fact in. Is this true because I had had Three falls a long before that because most reporters and most people who look at numbers and they at by numbers as a player and that this guy was. Mvp of the ABA averaging thirty and twenty five years with the Seattle Supersonics average in twenty six and thirteen and Olympic record holder and all of these different categories and as still as leading score and also was the outstanding college player of the year. So they look at all these things and they just assume that everybody thought again. Then you know also I went to the Supreme Court to fight he would versus the NBA to pave the way for Lebron's Michael Jordan magic. All of them they come through what is called. I the NBA. They call it early entry and now. I think it should be called what it is to Spencer. Haywood because they have the Larry Bird rule and they have Oscar Robertson. Rule regrettably Oscar but I know they promote birds and Larry Bird's modified version of my role. Larry Bird came in on a dispenser. It will but anyway so for years we thought this would happen and then there was a couple of false alarms that it did happen. So I was kidding around with John Deliver with the The Chairman and CEO. The hall and he was mentioning. You know. Well I probably spend Kareem. Rise is always the top. Yeah I said well. What does that got to do with with Kareem abdul-jabbar? My my blonde jokes Right so so Yeah it was. It was delighted. Mandic to get the call and to finally get to call it. Finally get it in but you know my mother used to sing this whole Psalm Lord and may not come when you want and buddies right on time. And that's my Jackson right so you know if it had to happen any other time. I think it would have been not as powerful as it is today and It was right on time. And it's on God's time so I'm very grateful and very humble Vita journey understand so once. You heard that you were going to be inducted. Walk us through that period from the time that you got to call to the induction ceremony that took place last Friday. September the eleventh. What all the activities have you been involved with. Well I've been all over the country Speaking and people wanting to know this story because it's a unique story and it is basketball history but yeah you know it hasn't been told so It's a new newfound appreciation for Spencer. Haywood so players have been embracing me like only at USA basketball here. In Las Vegas Games all the players on that team Blake Griffin. All of the young guys coming up and giving me hugs and kisses and thanking me. Because you know that situation just in terms of dollars and cents per Lebron James. He's got an extra one hundred million dollars. Coby got a one extra one hundred million dollars but griffin got extra fifty million dollars Kevin Durant who give me a big hug. 'cause he's got seventy five million dollars extra so that's the numbers in dollars and sense that. I give you an example of what it is because with with four years. If you have to wait for years after your high school classic graduate you would lose that kind of capital and you'll lose that plan time loser scoring titles you'll lose numbers that will help them get into the hall. Later on those numbers would be raced. And you don't know what's going to happen in four years in college. You could get hurt. A lot of things could happen so they fully appreciating news. So it's a good feeling because of forty four years more to this to happen so it is It is right on time on God. Signed so and then I went to I've been doing a lot of golf. Tournaments or charitable events and also just playing a lot and I spend a Lotta time with my family. My daughters and in fact I gotTA leave Again next week my next two oldest daughters having our first grand and So I gotta go in go through the process with her and It is it is a spectacular time and I also sit back John and and think about the times we were sitting in your dad's barber shop. They all sunset and this and just Nevada in Detroit for people who don't know right in Detroit Michigan and John Fathers where we congregate And and and and do our conversation and get a nice. Yeah because he didn't allow us to walk around. I hair off falling away years and stuff. So that's right. Yeah you know that's right So we would sit there and listen and talk and just pass the ball sports but all so I've been reflecting on Detroit. I went over to my neighborhood yesterday. day before yesterday and spent some time over there. Thursday and looking around and just just hearing up. Because done you know the story you know. When I came up from Mississippi I had no place to say I had no family there and James and either bill took in and adopted me along with my coach. Will Robinson and then we had waned diet. Dr Wayne die of your your own zone by Diet. Right Do all of my academics bring me up to snuff there. Oh my God it was just A. "That was twenty four episodes. That's third of a season of basketball and there's so much footage of you doing stuff. That's very impressive and its production every time it's crazy. It's like a whole in chris rock but i realize it's like people are putting on shows. We're doing like little concerts every time we play yeah. It's really stupid. You're i mean that is the easy level is it's like a seinfeld area. It's like the ball doesn't have to be in there because you're elbowing noses. Leading people are jumping in the stands beers on them. The ball doesn't have to be there. It's just made up but everything is so it's fine. There's your buddhism why not play everything's as man why not play. That's what my daughter's name means. It's the play of the universe the dancer the play and that's what this is. Got it and it was like wow my other friend sitting on the other side of him reached over and gave his leg alone and it was i was just just the just the perfect the perfect part like he pulled the fart foot. He pulled point. You know when you pull a finger like the perfect. He pulled that leg met. We lost it. I couldn't stop laughing. I i felt so bad for my friend because he was getting so red horse. "It. We need to learn how to not in your school learn how to debate and put down but learn how to tolerate and have compassionate and say just like to a flatter third so if i could talk to somebody who's you've been saying that this whole time if somebody's an atheist or they believe this that's okay that's such a different that that to me feels like evolution. That's evolving spiritual and i feel like if you say you don't you don't believe in god or anything like that. Having the conversation about debate go oh sir aliens shouldn't feel like the same thing due to them right so if i say yes and you say no. Are you going to get pissed. Talk about it. But why do you get pissed off. When you say yes about yeah and i get it because people are being mobile people are being radicalized changed or your however. You want to call it well when we look at certain parts of the country where people are killed because they're gay or women are but we're talking about western modern the religious discussion totally. I don't know and that's what i'm trying to get. That's maybe the point of this podcast is like usually i say do you believe in god people say no and then we start talking about the phenomenon of consciousness of life existing and that's just another way of talking about the same and i'm like you said i'm just being about discussions. You know what i mean. You should be able to have that conversation and not walk away like really being pissed off or like completely agree my weird. I'm i'm judging my own faith. The way that i had my faith was weird and it didn't quite line up with my heart or my intuition and the way that i kept it alive for a really long time was not engaging conversations so i had penn gillette on the podcast. I never would have wanted to talk a pendulum. We used to say in church if you're standing on a table and somebody's on the ground. It's dangerous to try and pull them up to your table. They'll it's it's easier for them to put you down but that was just a way of being like don't engage with other people because your ideology is fragile. I say let it all in when you're ready. Let it in and a little bursts in and you can handle it and everything will be fine. It will aw you'll be okay it. Will your mom might think you're weird and your data. Thank you ignore him. It is okay but you guys will reconcile my dad thought about texting a picture of me and you and and it would be over yeah. Oh yeah let's i would be honored to the part of part of the healing. Oh my god that is using your gift uh-huh for peace about peace mental attitude well we talked about god and then it gets heavy so we always end and you feel good first of all check if you'll get about the second of all <hes> what is the hardest time you've laughed in your life hardest laugh you've ever had at one point. I never say it right but everyone knows what i mean. Yeah i know right away. Gosh i forgot this <hes> boy. I'll let me take some pressure off. Although you do perform well under pressure. It's cornering something that should be eh mystically delicious like lucky charms. It should be engaging and interesting and personal and hard to talk about but then we turn it it into do you think this and then why do we want you to think that or not so we can judge it which is just more thoughts which is playing the jerk off game like do you think i think the only thing that and then we can all play our thoughts and we exist more from an ego plays. I exist more because i think you're so wrong when spirit in my opinion and is so past that exit that we don't even we don't even drive on that road like we stay in the debating teasing judging ridiculing ruling. I just did something where i felt like. The intent was to make fun of flatter thor's and i was like can we just like i'd like to talk to a flatter at there and just be like i understand your suspicion to not take anything at face value because we're soaking in a misery and i understand that comes out in the sort of weird way but i'd rather join us in your what the fuck is is just general unsettling nece that we woke up in a fucking mystery mystery rather than getting off jerking off and going like you're stupid. I'm mad about my dad's tax or just a simple practice. What were you mad about or anxious about a year ago. You can't even remember a week ago. It's just your brain really worked out fine and it's probably fine and your brain is just like addicted. It's like a mental illness like your brain takes over your being. You're not your thoughts. You're not your brain. You're not what people say about you. You're not even what happens to you. You're the thing watching that happened. In the more i can sit in that place and it seems like you're doing this. Whether or not you put this language to it. You're just not as affected and vats sexy that what people follow the half will write down and remember two thousand years later people like jesus. Would it'd be a good guy. I'm like no he wasn't. He wasn't about just be a good guy. Everybody as long as there's been people there's been at least a couple of being like just a very basic aw saying you're not who you think you are that electric. That's a lie in comedy gets at it and i think well you could tell me i feel like the more you become a celebrity. The more you realize that's not really you know. It's like this is like a story. There's like blake. Griffin the motto yeah i hear things about me that are wrong all the time right all the time and that might help you go step back and go. I'm over here <hes> it does that help. You know you had this to talk about john. I mean there's nothing wrong with that you. You have to go promote this thing insisting that you're doing you should you should but i have a hard time like going and doing things for that. You know what i mean like. I love. I love doing podcasts because most of the time in most the ones that i do like this one is just sitting here talking. I don't have something applaud. Raider isn't that freeing. "Is it okay to call somebody gay no but like we're just sort of making fun of fucking everything and then you enter into the space where nothing is taken seriously or precious and then this this might just be me the more we tear down what i would call the false self so in a row supposed to respect you because you're famous basketball player and then. I don't don't isn't that fun telling but also you laughing at it. I'm being real. I think churches if they were funny would get a lot out out of roasting themselves roasting the pastor rosen the choir leader roasting because you need to richard rohr who i love and if you're down with jesus or jesus interested. He's your dude. He's incredible and he says the true self what i'm saying like your soul like the the quiet place. That's observing blake not that the thoughts story of blake but the thing that's looking at your is unaffordable. I'm like this motherfucker so when someone offends me that's where i see. That's where my work is. I need to let go of that. I'm taking myself too seriously. I'm being too precious. I'm being too in the world or or i'm being two of the world so i can be really actually spiritually helpful hundred percent because if you can make like dude i know some hard core mother mother fucking bad ass buddhists. You can't annoy them. Let alone offend them and they're just giggling. Buddhists seems like you know but buddhism is sort sort of the opposite of religion. It wasn't mean there's no deity yeah. You know what i mean. It's just being in this place right but it's a lot like waking breaking up to the idea that nothing is happening at sorta. Here's buddhism. Nothing's happening and that's freedom is when you just like. Why am i so like i feel like my dad right. Now is ignoring me because i think i heard his feelings because i didn't reply to attacks that hurt my feelings so i ignored it and i think he's mad at me and i get really caught up in in that and just go like i get buddhist about and nothing has happened and just try and find compassion for i'm not i'm not like buddhist or anything like that but i think as i've gotten older. I've gotten to a place where i things. Don't bother me quite as much and like. I love that because yes as i get to to that place. I feel better just every day. That's right like i i would always said this to reporter last year. He was doing kind of like an indepth thing came to my house listen. He was like you know. You seem like not happier but you seem more like just like aquatic. Yes i used to like you know i. I'd likes you. Try not to read things that people write about you but it's sometimes it's impossible so stupid twitter and instagram. I just on instagram explorer agency like a quote about me. Yeah you know what i mean. Somebody wrote watching random youtube videos and i'll be in them and i'm like this is fucking yeah. Yeah that could would have been a really mean thing pete holmes shit but i was just a guy on youtube. You must have that times a billion keep going right so and and now i've gotten to a place where if i see that i'm just like. I used to be like not talking to this person anymore. You know what i mean. In the way out is through do is like saying the game so hard becoming blake griffin so hard that you actually let go of it to freedom. That's what i think. The teachers is liberation and that's the most freeing thing is knowing that i'm pretty much. I'm in control of my feelings are maybe i'm in control of how i reacted. "My issue now with christianity is i don't understand how how a religion that is following somebody who stood for these things in the bible you know they've talked about oh jesus would would he would eat with like the lep- the sinners of the cross last year isn't in yet in the bible. I'm not saying thing. This is my belief that in the bible or at least christians believe that say for instance homosexuality is a sin did but then you can't accept you. Don't get it why outright. Why can this person who you're supposed to be following. Do these things but you can't don't get me. You know what i mean. I i mean this is my favorite talk about. I'm just so put off by all that that like. I dunno i it's a bummer to say like but it just having grown up around all that and being immersed in it so much because you're not only sunday but monday through friday for me and again on wednesday going to chapel. I just don't understand how that makes any sense and that's only just one example. There's a lot of things can i go. I'll just put this to you. Maybe my greatest joy in life is realizing to me that would jesus saying and would all of the great teachers ears are saying all of spirituality boils down to you are not all of these transitory things that are passing all these false identities including your sexuality including your profession profession including your income including where you're from your family and it's like who you are is that in dwelling what we would call the holy spirit and the christian tradition shen the ottoman or the buddha nature that inward divinity. That's who you really are and jesus is going around saying look. It's not about who looks holy. Who's in the temple. 'cause i'm kicking it with these guys. I mean with these guys. I'm hanging out with mary magdalene all this stuff because he's trying to demonstrate that we're all in one thing together gather that there's one game happening and we're all equal beautiful dignified participants and we've taken that message jesus never came to create a religion he came to reform. He came to be a person but he reformed judaism. You're trying to correct some wrong thinking judaism. I'm not saying he was a jew. He was trying to change the way they went about. Being jewish that sounded antisemitic meant he went to change the way that he was jewish and how others were jewish in in the religious sense and that got turned into a religion because we can't it goes back to competition and ego wanna be the winners and we wanna prove that others are wrong and that's why schools are teaching you instead of what jesus would have done in my opinion. This is the <hes> the interconnectivity of these faiths were saying here's how to debate with these faiths to prove that they're wrong and you're right which is an ego trip who is proving who is wrong who is behind that debate. There's this there's this still quiet place in you you in you in me that has nothing to do with all of these identities and these words and these labels that we put on ourselves because all of that is passing away and that's what jesus is saying when he's kicking it with a tax collectors like you can't see past tax collector and you're saying the same. I'm all excited. You're saying the same mother fucking thing you can't see past someone's sexual sexual orientation that has absolutely zero effect on you right not not at all like again noted scandal uh-huh yeah we c k has the thing where he's talking about candle noted. "Like some guys win stands guys were fighting each other guys were fighting fans and like some guys got suspended for like sixty games like it was a huge huge huge deal the players that sort of instigated it by going in. There got suspended sixty game. I want to say maybe one for full season. I don't remember i know that name probably because it was one of the ones they like went up into the stands. He was like a big the court he went and laid down on like the scores table like kind of like you know doing like a thing and somebody threw a cup of beer from the stands in a kid him i was just it was already mayhem in on the court and like the arena and he just got up and went up in the stands and like win after this dude so he saw who was. I don't let face you make after you had an n._b._a. Player with the class of beer the beer and then he fought yeah. I don't think they actually really connected well but <hes> like nobody really got seriously injured. I don't think how can you be fighting when your hands like if you broke your hand you know what i mean like if the thing that made me funny was also the thing that i punched with. I would be gandhi. I'd just be like i'd only roast people. I'd just do and you could would you you get in trouble. If you verbally engage though right yeah guys guys will say something and they'll get in trouble sometimes sexy. That's part of the game like you'd think they'd be i again. I couldn't be more out of touch but you'd think there. There would be some sort of marshalling of like yet. Don't yell at the bears at the zoo and don't potent out that you guys are always feels like we always talk about like we who i do. That's how i feel on stage. If somebody's if somebody i remember somebody blue smoke at me in the early two thousand when he could smoke and i was like that felt like really lee aggressive and dehumanizing and there's nothing i can do because nobody even this is the worst part not make it worse for you but like nobody knows what you know. Nobody sees what usually like ted right to you. You're crazy person going after one guy. It's like a heckler. You heard him so anyway but you have to tune it out. I just never look look in that direction until maybe like the end of the game. If we're like winning or like any layman you kind of give them a look like that to me is like the boss but have you respond to do it more. Yes you know what i mean. You just give a little what now what now can can you do a three sixty dunk. Yes i can. I can't help many degrees. Can you dunk. I don't know really tried more than here's a real question. Shen at a certain point too many spend start to look like the ballet and they wouldn't like too many too many spins. Yeah 'cause i ten step yeah when you get put on the spot and i remember what i said and it wasn't that good. My brother was in the crowd. It was not a pleasant memory but it was necessary for me to realize that like life goes on you can bomb and everything's fine don't go but sh 'cause like like fucking. At least i try you sit on the ground. Exactly i'm up here exact doing various <hes> college in called the ball rolling and called the rim stan intrigue. You gotta bentley basketball key i. I miss that that's weird. 'cause you're professional. I thought maybe that maybe you tickets so after you were funny and did impressions with your family where did and then you move on to friends and then like i i remember like making videos with are my parents like giant video tape v._h._s. The the big one that was like you pony yeah <hes> problem up on books in the hit record scurry out of the room and come in and talk to somebody off camera the rewind. You know i'd have camera editing. Oh yeah yeah but it didn't come out to smooth that <hes> do we..

"It. I i was warming coming up and i turned and i saw him at the other end just stopped and i was looking at him and i was like oh. This is crazy. I've been watching this guy since in the n._b._a. Since i was eight years old wow wow so we're like playing in the game. He played till he was thirty eight. Wow all any they'll get. Yes still good <hes> till the end of his career started all that <hes> not he wasn't the same level at the very end as he was in his prime obviously but he was still good and he would do this thing. Where are you would like you know maybe you're lined up the free throw line next to him and he would look over at you and he'd be like not you again. He would say something where he was engaging you but he also very sarcastic too and i i love that and like he would just always mess with me and it always made me like man tim's a good guy go and now i try to do that because that's that to me is better than like seeing like some young kids check and be like try to hit him hard or like traveling we to like what other guys did to me. When i came in dare i say class yeah like he has some funny and it also he's showing right good that he knows he doesn't have to do that. Kidding gauge in by engaging you that way saying the money is that's desperate. It's not just hack. It's desperate you. You want to look like you don't need to brag. That's one of the weird things in comedy to is like the dynamics with the ball breaking the club's changes. When you get more clicks up a career ladder like like i've been fortunate enough to notice that you get a certain point certain guys like chris rock. We said chris rock if i see chris rock club and he does some desperate imagine if chris rock was like fifty million be like what the fuck is wrong with chris. It's like there's a level you you wanna be like what's his name the dunkin do you want to be like tim duncan and that's chris rock and if chris rock said you again it would be sir. Still you're making a joke. You're already demonstrating so many things. I'm not nervous yeah. I'm cool yeah. You're not gonna throw me. I'm having fun run. These are great things. Yeah see almost died. I was i was messing around the surface. I shouldn't have been the ways where like super hard and i came crashing crashing down and like i was under. I don't know how long i was under water for. It might have just been five seconds but it felt like eternity. Yeah and i was like you know when i was like trying to reach to to like feel the bottom or feel like my hand. Go on reaching reaching reaching out or i should've kept the mike reaching reaching reaching and couldn't find it and then and all the sudden finally when i stopped trying to the sex i finally landed on the bottom like my buddy hit. The hit the sand and i got my feet. I just pushed up as far they could not knowing how deep it was and got to the top and like was like gasping in just like when when when when like set down on the sand lake set their thought that's the closest i ever feel like goes i. I've also served a little bit harder for tall unbelievably hard so hard for the tall when when little people are like get outta here like about how hard is to lay down and stand up just that's right here on and that's what serving is that's serfaty laying and now stan and also bound like it's impossible thing that they like can the n._b._a. A or does the n._b._a. Ever go like like don't serve yes. I said they do that because i don't. We're not really allowed to sir. We shouldn't really surf like during the seasons yeah like we can't ride. Motorcycles bungee jump ski skydive snowboard. It's insurance it. Tom cruise like i'm sure tom cruise well. He's always doing it in a certain point. They have to be like tom. You can't play russian roulette..

"I'm not doing vitamin drips. I am i am doing blends now now for vitamins instead of taking actual physical pills i'm doing they've <hes> they've basically put all your specific vitamins that you need and i do like blood not so i know exactly what i need them not taking my body naturally produces a lot of i'm making sure that everything is in like the you know. There's like the red yellow hello and green section when you get your blood test back. I'm just making sure everything's in the green. Yeah i know what i mean. I guess it would be red yellow green and then rattigan. We know too much yeah. What is i struggle with the lot of now who vitamin d hard to get its toes a joke here <hes> we're better than that. We're both about an hour. We're gonna we're gonna keep moving as much as you want to come back. He's keep moving. Don't even don't look. Don't turn around pete. Do you remember when we get our rose. If you made a joke that you were like shit i shouldn't joke in our r._s._s. Yeah good because i thought about that more yeah <hes> beco- back what was the joke i it was interesting. Let's let's talk a little bit about that unless unless you had a vitamin no you're you're you're doing great. I want to know what other weird shit. You're doing. You get a blend. This is so ah i can't go and buy a bland. I mean you could you can make company that. Does oh really yeah. I'll give you information off air really gotta get gotta get if if you really want it i definitely do. I've been taking <hes>. I take my vitamins in like a gel form bioavailable lightbulbs feerick something luca and i just feel like i get into you enjoy taking. Is it like i enjoy. You know what michael palin says. He says vitamins to shed. The jury is still kind of out on that one but he's like be the kind of person who takes vitamins so like the taking of the vitamins is part of the benefit of vitamins doing a thing like working out in the morning. I don't work out but if i do when i do in the morning i just have a great day. Yeah go around eating peaches and said like if i didn't work out for a living half to work out in the morning all day like my job was yeah and i had to work out if that i wouldn't i wouldn't do and mentally is giving you a huge benefit to you struggle with any depression or anxiety or never never have. I feel like you have to be burning. I get like some like like social anxiety. Just being if i'm especially if i'm by myself out in like a public place yeah ed doesn't ever like really kept me from doing things. We talked about that because i was walking around with. You and i was like well. The sklar brothers of the lucas brothers twins get notice salat and if you're famous twenty get noticed double much double much and if you're six ten you get noticed and you're on like your year. What i said ed was like your real famous like. I'm kind of like fun..

"Man. I'm supposed to be here like you know like i came from nothing and now i'm here and it's like yeah you were. You're six eight and like the the strongest person ever. This is exactly what you're supposed to be doing tosa and i. I was going to say like i'm six ten two hundred sixty pounds and all i had to do to get that was eat and go outside a little like it's true. I was given rubin like yes. You have to lift weights and you have to do things but like that's not hard when you have a person a coach dedicated to telling you what ways to lift putting the weight on their hopefully. That's why with your four saltwater like someone telling you what to eat. Br of course someone should tell you what to eat. I see that the same thing as like someone knowing how to light a scene in a show someone you're the exact so someone should motherfucking be telling you what exactly and if you don't do it that's on you absolutely yeah but the scene is easier to control than a person. I mean like i have to imagine especially the way that we you know sort of worship celebrity just in general the men specially athletic celebrity. It must be tempting as you get bigger. I have a hard time imagining coaches. Let's take michael jordan. Let's take everybody middling that you play with it. How do you tell michael jordan what to do. There has to be an element. I'm in humility that you maintain. It must be hard for you. I mean i don't know much about your career sports wise but it's just like you've done some stuff. You're four-time eh six eighteen. I don't even when you make your sixteen time and the most valuable blake and like you were saying when you were young and hungry of course you're gonna do what the coach tells you and you're scared and is it harder. And how do you maintain taint humility humility. That's 'cause nobody's rapping about humility rap about your. That's what this thing right. Your talent talent level and your level of humility have to match. You know what i mean and a lot of times. They don't yeah when you when your talent level in your shoot you level a level of humility or guests self-awareness at the same time yeah match then you will continue to get better yeah if your talent is up here in your humility is up here. You're you're gonna keep saying like oh. I don't need to like or your self awareness. I don't need to work on this when you so. You can't really get better do you. Your talent is down down here and your humility. I mean that's just normal parks cicero worse than what you're saying. It's a little bit like a bell curve. You don't want to little little humility. You also probably don't want too much. We don't need to show that for sure. Everybody knows you need to have a certain level of confidence to do anything i i think i'm even trying to separate separate humility and confidence. Do you know what i mean. You can be confident in your ability and still be humble. Yeah you know what i mean. That's interesting and i i probably cried and explain that the right way but it's in my mind those like the guys that are very very good and get better for the most apart are pretty humble like there was a kind of this new wave of guys like the kevin durant and the steph currys and all those guys that had come into the n._b._a. Who are so good and they're also pretty humble and self aware of like what they are and what they aren't feel like. The comedy is crazy with i just said i don't know either of those. Men are but like. I couldn't two of the mess. He's gonna show me five photos there in basketball uniforms all of them. I don't know who those those people. I see that like with comedy..

You're the only guest that is that's true. That's that's a good plan. This is shitty. This is like a status move. If you ask me to sit here i would think it was a power game. Yeah i'm gonna i'm gonna i angle it this way. Well let's start here. We have to edit something out. Wish for funny reason. Though can i say funny reason because i'm fascinated more with your life than like like sports interview obviously and the fact. I just ask you what you were drinking. You were like i don't know and then i said i don't so if you should say because anything that you're seeing doing is an automatic endorsement which is a much bigger deal than say if i would just like i love kit kat especially when it comes molested health and wellness thing things that are supposed to be healthy. I think that's crazy. It's a crazy life. It's like if <hes> if you see she like a guy like a basketball player. You see lebron like doing some exercise like he basically started as a as it rise nation. It's a class where you do <hes> versa climber. It's a it's like a workout machine and he was like thinking. It's a part of his workout thing and now there's like a full four class where you just go do that. It wasn't obviously just him but i have a in in my mind. He had a big well. Push on geena started. We say this. I only have so many facts but they did a study where primates monkeys gorillas will look at photos of like muscular and beautiful beautiful symmetrical or fit able guerrillas so it's like in our evolution like we love looking alpha's like we want. Isn't it cool. We we wanna see what the like when i see the reason i asked what you're drinking is because i just have an evolutionary need to be like what are you doing so now. You're gonna go waste nice exact thing but that's advertising if i drink that or eat that i'll be you but really you're like. You probably got up at four a._m. This morning and heaved things things that need to be somewhere to somewhere where they didn't want to be doing that but it doesn't seem i apply this. This is your podcast. You should be asking the question you. I just thought about this. This is it is now. It doesn't seem like so much more organic. If you just see the person in public doing like you watch it gatorade at and i don't think like in my mind. I don't even think i was like it's water in the cups one hundred cup so do you guys still drink from cups. <hes> i don't wanna get you go to like an a a an arena like you can't control that team might have a gatorade sponsorship mantra ship right so they'll put gatorade cups right behind the bench but as a kid gatorade yeah but it's water it might be is actually you know what it is. They have these the trays he's and half gaiters. Some guys like gatorade during games from guys like water. What are you doing. I do a special during during games i do. It's it's like choosing from the tooth. Same bullshit choices that i have when i go to a seven eleven is how somebody should be like. There's a little cayenne here. I can help your metabolism start making up. What is in your special. It's just electrolyte stuff so it's basically like well yeah salt with a sev several different kinds of salt you so listen. You're at no risk of sounding like a snob. I'm out of shape. I'm not exerting myself in any way and i put salt in my water. You're safe right. This is not teasing. This is put some saabs different salts in your water and i love it because i feel like gatorade makes me feel a little sluggish because there's so much sugar it's soda..

We talk a little bit about basketball but as you guys know i'm not i'm not a huge fan of the all round unball. Giannis Antetokounmpo drops 41 points, Bucks surge to sweep of Pistons

"I have great news. It happened. Again. The pistons won the pistons won the pistons. Another first half of the playoff games against the bucks. However as the rules state they did have to also play the second half of the game during a gentleman by the name of Janas attentive PLO kinda to over Janas finish the game with forty one points, nine rebounds and a dominant performance that ended the season of the Detroit Pistons before we get to the pistons Jalen rose, what did you think of Janas dominance in the second half? I appreciate when your best player understands that it's a clo- closeout game. And they know out and have the best game of the series. I like that killer instinct, and this guy's virtually unstoppable as he gets a head of steam going towards the basket if you play off the him he takes up the space. It can do a euro step either way lead in good point goal. Over the top of you and bang out. And he still has the confidence to shoot jump shots, and he actually made a three. So as his office of game continues to evolve he becomes more of an unstoppable force in the league. You really does. I think a lot of people like, oh, it doesn't have a jump shot. Just back off of them say I don't know if you want him to gain that momentum those long strides long arms, you see he just went up against Andre Drummond under Jones seven foot one with long arms. These big he bounced off Drummond, switch to the other hand. And then finished in the air. Like, you do not want those types of problems. Jalen rose. The pistons have some problems now they're season's over. They didn't have Blake for the first two games in this series. I think a huge huge shout to Blake Griffin finishing out this series. He played pretty well. He was obviously hobbled. He had a great season.

Kris Humphries says short-lived marriage to Kim Kardashian was '100 percent real'

"It's been awhile since we've seen Kris Humphries on headline entertainment for sure location, but his the case today because Kris Humphries who's our hometown guy, of course, announced his retirement from the NBA today. So he is officially retired and he's reflecting on his career and his infamous seventy two day marriage. One Kim Kardashian. There are some interesting things he wrote a blog post for the players Tribune. And I've got a little excerpt for the irony of my career is that I finally figured out what kind of player I was when I got to the nets. I felt like I knew who I was finally, and then I met a girl who happened to be really famous, and I got married and damn look I should have known what I was getting into. I was definitely naive about how much my life was going to change. But the one thing that really bothers me is whenever people say that my marriage was fake. He goes on and says, there's definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real. But our actual relationship was one hundred percent real when it clear when it was clear that it wasn't working. What can I say it sucked? It's never easy to go through the embarrassment of something like that with your friends with your family. But when it plays out so publicly in front of the world, it's a whole other level. It was brutal. Yeah. I get that. I get that. And remember they started dating and they were married like ten months later. Very quickly. It took nearly two years for their divorce. Get to be finalized. They were only married for less than three months. They had a massive wedding ceremony in front of the cameras August of twenty eleven and Kris Humphries goes on to say, I didn't know how to handle it. And this is where I think you can feel a lot of empathy for the guy. He says, I didn't know how to handle it. Because I never thought I was going to be famous in that way. I remember having this moment when I was getting booed so hard in Philly, and I thought to myself why exactly are they booing need? Just because I'm that guy from TV today think I was trying to be famous is it because they think I disrespected the game of basketball the last one killed me because all I've ever wanted to be known for was basketball. You know, I know I know a woman whose son was in that wedding. Okay. Really the KEA and they all had to sign disclaimers. Yeah. Yeah. But in Christianity brought all of them like Amelia's, suits the. Oh, yeah. Okay. And but the word that what she said was it was an Kim's family. They were a nightmare. Kris Jenner was beyond rude. They didn't they treated all the Minnesota people like they were just. Foreigners far far far away land that they weren't gonna extend any courtesy to. She said it was so every was everyone was just like. The Hollywood people and then the Minnesota. For me. It sounds terrible. He says there was about a year when I was in a dark place. He didn't wanna leave his home said he feel like I don't know the whole world hates you. But they don't even know why. And then he said Kris Humphries went on to say that after his split from Kim Kardashian. There would be times when people would be like, hey, are you Kris Humphries, and he would say, oh, no. I look like him. No. I'm Blake Griffin. Who's an NBA player? And this is where I think it's this is like the heartbreaking part is when he says, I didn't wanna be Kris Humphries. It's the craziest feeling in the world not wanting to be yourself. And I didn't even want to say anything to defend myself because it felt like I couldn't win. You can't go up against the tabloids. You can't go up against that machine. There's no point in even if I played that game I felt like it would be disrespecting the game of basketball saver. They were IQ couple. I never bought him for a second hall over Kim really had. She really she had her original face when she was Chris. Picture of the two of them together. So cute wearing this like pretty neutral dress, and she is. How this wasn't going to work. When she was hanging out on lake Minnetonka. I was like what is going on here. No, there is anything is going to happen here by
