"On. It's a program called to business. We had a little bit of a budget. Leftover surplus and we asked the board. What do you want to do with this money. And mark and his peers around the table said we need to get involved with schools. Business leaders need to get engaged with schools. We have got to get these kids earlier before they get out. And so that started as a pilot initiative last year where we had twelve hundred students across the state goede businesses on wedneday tour those different career pathways that were available and now this year in in lieu of kobe. All virtual program and we've got thirteen thousand students already in the first three weeks of the of the program we're going to host it all year long and other program. We run as our workforce recovery program. And so you know kentucky we've been hit really hard by the opioid epidemic by substance use disorder in in what we find is that it really really hinders our workforce participation and so in the last eighteen months we've trained about four thousand business leaders on how to update their hr policies and practices and how to be recovery friendly and fair chance employers in the past three four months. We've recruited six thousand second chance what we like to call fair chance jobs for individuals that come out of incarceration and get them meaningfully. Engaged back into the workforce. Alaska certainly not least we have our talent pipeline management program which pulls businesses from all across the state together by regions to mark's point if really easy for us in frankfurt To look across the state and say this is what needs to be done but quite frankly the magic happens in those communities if you believe it or not. We've talked a lot about other things. Besides cove and workforce bill all. We're talking about. We talked about bourbon and bourbon but one of the really cool places that we got to go see was the theater house. It's such a great business down there and covington and an interesting one too and got to go on site and see the see the thing. So let's take a look. We do have a retail shop in covington four hundred west third street so you can stop by there and we're we're here one six on on the daily one seven through the the halloween season and We're open on saturdays as well. But beyond covington we ship all over. So we are products have been featured in things like rupaul's drag race and on disney cruise lines a universal studios cleveland cavaliers cirque du soleil We have people like just in the past week. They order for fabric of our lamaze are used for making purposes and scotland. So we'll ship lemay there. We may ship We've shipley blank guns and stage weaponry to as far as Australia so we we really ship all around the world and we while we are open to the public. We have a large I'll say institutional and business bases. Well you know it is time to start thinking about what we're all going to do. Once this pandemic is over what we're gonna go see. I know i've been thinking about that. Everybody you know in the beginning of the year is like okay. What are we going to do. This year of vacation is happening. And but here's the deal you don't have to go far to have a really cool vacation. So we learned that first hand from tore with us us northern kentucky. They've got this great idea. Visit himself on the beeline kentucky's version of the bourbon trail. And and do this safely sip responsibly. That's what they like. Say randy and teeth daniels have a way for us to visit the stops on the be safely while also learning about the history of the area and tasting some really great bergen along the way. Yeah on my my list for two two hundred seventy one get vaccinated and get on one of these tours. We're focusing on the northern kentucky. Be line and craft stiller's There are quite a number of distilleries of large and small That are both under the katie or the kentucky dissociation or the or the kentucky bourbon trail The five distilleries in northern kentucky. Our new riff a second site spirits. County distilling and then Old pogue distillery and so really. That's that's where we're beginning our focus. We're were based at another kentucky. And the ideas for us to be able to get people from point a to point b or really from point a to point b c and then back to a crite in a safe way. Our our motto is a sip responsibly. And so that's where the transportation kind of comes in and it's an certainly big focus for distilleries because they want people to be safe to. And so this is a neat way to get people from their homes to the to the northern kentucky beeline and really experience Distilleries on the be liners such great history. The northern kentucky chamber offers tough moms leadership and professional development opportunity programs like our women's initiative professional series and regional youth leader helping to retain talent in our region we offer dozens of events that qualify for sees like hr one hundred and leader cats and don't forget about leadership northern kentucky with more than fourteen hundred alumni. "Welcome back to the northern kentucky spotlight. I know around this time of year. We're all thinking about technology as gifts for the holidays and we're bringing in a company right now. The finger to about technology and laptops and refurbishing all kinds of computer so blair technologies is in kurt reynolds specifically the cfo of blair technologies are and we appreciate you being here For on here on the northern kentucky spotlight yet. Thanks for having me. I'm excited to get the spread. The word out about us and let people know a little bit more about what we do. Let's start right there. We know where you are. Because we all remember the old johnny's toys in latonya. We were just talking. I drive by all the time. The castle is still there. But what's inside is a little bit different so explain. What blair does yes. Castle still here and fully functioning. We still can send the keys al First birthday club to come. Get your poisons and stuff but the inside is a lot different so no longer is filled with toys. It's now filled with computers in in different electron ix with that Blair technology so we are a computer refurbishing In that is you know when you when you hear refurbishing computers. You might bank of a used computer and and it scratched in an doesn't look great and it's just a you know a cheaper version new but that's not really what it is at all It's a full manufacturing facility down here and in it's actually called renewed computers now so When you hear renewed it doesn't have the bit operations of of a used so when when we sell it. It's only tested Fully cleaned it. Look brand new out of a professionally atkins boss and in if you didn't know it was a used computer. Knew it and you wouldn't have any idea the quiz it looks brain you know and i know we had just been talking about the fact that you know with kids and students of all ages going online for learning this year and really into next semester. A lot of them a lot of parents grandparents are kind of scrambling for computers. That do basically just what they need to do. And there are a little afraid of that. Refurbishing refurbishment word. So why should someone looked toward a renewed computer as opposed to granny new one that we get that question a lot and for the computers that were selling versus new The people who are going to use them at Or for their office or something Our computer was the exact same thing that the the new computer do. For instance every computer in our building that used Including the one right. Now that i'm line is one of our renewed computers so you wouldn't tell the difference Unless you're doing something you know high power that you need the top of the line computer which must be were not Our computer will will work perfectly fine and you'll never notice the difference so the students can use You know all the google tools that they need you can use excel powerpoint In all of that and get it at a much better price for a lot of the concern about getting a renewed or refurbish computer. Is that if you're buying it from a big box store. There's no one to call and say. Hey this doesn't work that may be the beauty of buying from from somebody like you. Yeah we've got a customer service staff that can call In their they're answering the phone all the time and if it's even a local person you can come right into the tech castle store and they'll help you They can fix it. Service things Answer the questions. The people that work into the fans they love computers. It's not just a job. They like to to work on it and things in their spare time to so so they're very helpful may get caused from outweigh turning on to do anything so we can help. In any way you'll get someone on spare your locally and i think it's interesting You guys are the number. One microsoft authorized refurbish or in the world. Right there in livonia. that's correct Were very proud of the to We we got that designation this year. so for a company that started alley in someone's basement In blair started in his basement thousand by and we've grown To this this big company Last year we became the largest microsoft partner in the usa and this year we Jumped in in now their biggest partner in world So in the refurbishing peace. you know. there's no one larger than us out there so if obviously we could walk in there To the old johnny choice. Tech castle there in latonya. What's the process like. I mean if if people aren't really sure like i don't know what i need. I use my computer for these five things. Can you help along with to figure out what we need absolutely Depending on what you're looking for we have a solution for you and even in the store We get that question what you come in. You know people know they need or want a computer. They don't know they might not know the ins and outs or what democracy. Our word processors so In the store we actually have different lines of the computer You know in detail than the cheaper the medium in more expensive things in what it says. If you need to do these things this will do it. if you're just looking for the basic i wanna Stamp baseball where we can get you a computer at that. If you want a gaming computer You wanna play fortnite and things like that which is fairly full. We actually produce in manufacturer are deeming line. gaming renders purview. It is an introductory to gaming. So you have a kid or yourself or someone wants to get into gaming. And you don't wanna you don't wanna do xbox playstation you want to jump into the pc world and you don't want to spend two three thousand dollars per computer That's where we coming so are for a few gaming line. They're awesome machines. They have all the bells and whistles. They're fighting their colorful In in the. I believe they start around. Five hundred dollars In in in common you won't it won't be the top line for that you see in the world cup of gaming But it is going to produce better results than the next oxford and let you play the games that you wanna play. You know and someone who. I had to look for laptops over the years. It's not easy like you said to go. You're looking at processor names in gigabyte all the stuff that we may not understand And having someone explain that is not an easy thing to find yet. Another reason to maybe stop by yet. They can help with anything you would need. You know when. I when i jumped into the computer world i didn't know The processors ingraham's and hard drives in can get overwhelming to no need eight rammer. Sixteen gig karan in our. Our people here can help you out of can get you in the right solution and unless you feel good that you're you're out making a bad choice you're getting exactly what you and saving a little money in the process to absolutely.

"Kentucky right now and cold springs city. Officially officials vote to buy the disabled american veterans site in cold spring. So we talked about this Last maybe to podcasts ago were They were that they were moving to erlanger well. The thirty acre spot has Been the source of contention between the city officials and county schools and Which want to The property for a new middle school but Dav to a new location erlanger. So we're kind of See what's going to happen with all this what they're going to do with it yet. Looks like it's going to go to the city which means just more tax revenue as opposed to school. So we'll we'll see how Speaking of kind of maneuvering and trying to figure out how this is all gonna roll. Covington is working to explore some new regulations specifically about airbnb or similar type. Third party rental Situation so they're more than two hundred in the city. In fact there'd be no comedy these are the ones that they've found registered And right now the only laws that kind of a climber nuisance laws like a people have parties those sorts of things but the city wants to establish kind of a framework regulatory framework with laws that apply specifically to airbnb and similar type rental situations. And so you're going to start that process now and into the new year. Yep and we've seen that kind of happening all over the country with those because some some weird stuff can happen in your hurts. The housing market to buying up to be reynolds on airbnb. I mean congratulations to five and k Graduates of leadership kentucky Fernando figaro from the president of gateway community and technical college justin auto of newport on the levee states trotman covington independence public schools. Even you talked about the bridge but if you want to go back and watch what he had to say. That is on our page. You can get to it from the chambers Facebook page click on news and click on videos. After we get back on the thirteenth we have an hr one hundred and it's proven results for recovery. Friendly workplaces said this is a great discussion for bringing all your People back into your office and how how exactly to do all that and then we have another business after hours. If you wanna get together network virtually on the fourteenth and then exxon issues and that's general assembly previews that we can talk about all the great stuff that's going to be happening down in frankfurt this year and then We also have a cool event on the twenty eighth of january coverage energizing your team and twenty twenty one and that's going to be put on by our friend mike. "Good afternoon. And welcome to the north. You touchy spotlight. I'm katherine niro. Jeremy sharon the marketing and communications director for the northern kentucky chamber. It's a holiday week. Jeremy great stuff. Yeah we got. We got some great stuff going on today. But let's start you off with a brent style. Christmas joke okay. Oh goodness what. Do you call a christmas wreath. Made with one hundred dollar bills the perfect gift. I don't know that's a good answer but the real answer is a wreath of franklin's. I can't believe i laughed at that one. Thank you for not telling you to her. No that's a good one. A re listen and while we're talking about last minute guests we'll get to that coming up in just a little bit too but we do. Thank our sponsors here on the northern kentucky spotlight Cd of course holiday travel. It is in full swing. Ansi crew consulting our digital sponsor so we thank them for all. They've done throughout this year. And in addition to that we also were talking about up some As we always do great things happening in northern kentucky including guest coming up in just a little. Bit from blair technologies yeah. I'm really interesting to see what they have to say. They've got all kinds of great stuff going on there. They're making this new technology rare down there and sat solar panels up on the building and It's a great story and fun fact. I used to play flag. Football with Any blair he runs splur- technology. Do i'll tell you this was really interesting. If you are in the market for a computer of any sort and here the type you may be looking at it. Like oh maybe i should get on that For a holiday gift giving weight to buy until you listen to this interview because it is super interesting and it may save you a lot of money and a lot of hassle too. So that's all coming your way ahead But before we get to that do wanna talk about all the great things and big things happening in northern kentucky this week. Jeremy and it starts and ends and continues with the brent spence bridge. We are closing in wednesday's the date they are looking at. Thank the good lord in heaven. Above a for reopening the brent spence branch. They've done all the concrete pours they see. The weather's been pretty good for it. All everything is on track to open wednesday. Now that being said they didn't specifically say in their last update yet. Still gonna be wednesday said this week. So let's just keep that in mind but hopefully by christmas eve christmas if you've got to travel across the river over the river through the woods Hopefully that will be back open. So certainly good news. It's been closed since november eleventh because of that been crash in fire there on the bridge so great news The best rehabing jus- And you know we're heading into the holiday break. The kids are off school but will they be going back in january of question. Mark question. Mark big question. Mark governor beshir's asking schools not to resume in person instruction until january eleventh if they are located in a red zone county The red zone designation is determined by covid nineteen data determined whether a counties average twenty five or more daily confirmed positive cases per hundred. Thousand people All northern kentucky counties have been in the the reds ends for weeks now feels like forever. This point Covington diocese issue statement last week saying in person would resume january fourth the day that it was supposed to and the day before. The governor issues The day before the governor issued the latest requests. So we don't really know what the diocese is gonna do We don't know what really anybody's gonna do as at but Hopefully we can get some of those kids back in school to keep our economy kind of moving along as we head into the new year and even though you know obviously when you look at the number of cases those numbers are not going down in the manner that state officials federal officials might want but there is good news on the horizon. And that's all about the vaccine so we knew that the pfizer vaccine arrived in kentucky folks at saint. Elizabeth have denied getting out over the last week now. This is really good news because The moderna vaccine is is actually in kentucky now. It arrived yesterday in louisville. And today they're gonna start. Vaccinations with that second vaccine madonna which is great for a multitude of reasons number one. That's just double doses. Let's just be fair. And if you look at it that way governor bashir said kentucky will get seventy six thousand doses of vaccine modernity vaccine in the first shipment and then another thirty three thousand eight hundred between december twenty seventh and thirty first by the end of the year. We're talking one hundred thousand doses More which is incredible into that Senator mitch mcconnell got his vaccine on friday. All the senior government officials in washington those Vice president pence get his live on the air and the whole goal is to show people. Hey there's nothing to be afraid of. This is how it so we are on the process on the road to recovery is just the beginning but we are definitely on that road. Good light at the end of the tunnel meeting kyi they have a. They have announced their new leadership But it's also a familiar person that we know from meeting ky. Y julie kirkpatrick has been named president and chief executive officer of meat and k y northern kentucky convention and visitors bureau. She's been the interim president since june When eric semi retired and julie has been with meeting kyi since two thousand fourteen. So it's not like a completely new face but they do have a new leader now. And i've been working with meeting kyi and some really cool videos. The latest one is just out. So i'm gonna plug this a completely selfish flawed but also. This may have been the most so i got to go on a couple of stops on the b. Line the northern kentucky version of the bourbon tour the bourbon trail and So from second site in ludlow to coppens at hotel covington oh kentucky bourbon bar. Well as new riff and proper. "No option. It becomes a bit more. Who hander right psychological. The actually right absolutely key going. See what you're experiencing. What are your experiences with this transition into classroom teaching and students learn ladies first and problem So on march thirteenth was our last official day in the school building. Last lear We were the well aware. That covid was A problem but the sunday evening so that would be the fifteenth. We got the announcement That all schools would close down and On the monday teachers had to go in for about three days to crack but we were really unfamiliar with how we would facilitate learning with such a short turnarounds. So we were. We were using google classroom. Which is an online platform. Where you upload assignments and things of that nature and the students were competent in using that but some teachers did not feel comfortable going live as we are right now Our administration gave a lot of leeway as to whether or not we would have live classes or do a synchronous learning which simply means that you post an assignment and you wait for the student to complete it So given the fact that i was unfamiliar with how to facilitate learning virtually i took the asynchronous route where i would prepare a lessons readings and the would submit it in their own time but in doing so the connection was lost And it was challenging alive. Students faced in To echo dr collins blair Technology was an issue not many students or not..

"One of the things unnoticed with this and makes me very happy armed blair technology is at a point now where people can make documentaries in latin lex shit anymore you know we would get so made documentaries from back in the day and they would look because they've taken afford a big movie budgets they begin get like these cheap as cameras and they would and he will grainy man married guineas documentaries now that look great because they can shoot on the budget with digital but more pulled back this is a female directed that did this amanda lipids and i think that this cool that we get more female directors out there doing this kind of thing somboon for the film so with that said then he good let me know tell me yes so yeah first fema director asthma my ash i love that and i think the trailer actually does a really good job of of showing you what type of movie is it's an has the sad part at has you know the heavier moments but overall it's about this really great story about these three girls at their senior europe high school just you know doing what they love and trying desperately to succeed in their future and i thought it was really put while put together i thought the stories were really endearing one thing i really loved though was so like lesson is the main is like base would you argue the main girl of yosu the thing and this is a new a new school in baltimore was founded a think seven years ago yet of so she's the first person the phone the a step team here and it was a preparatory academy there yet bless him so she's the leader in the founder of the stuff team yes so she's really cool very beautiful seems very determined to try to make something of herself and she has had trouble saying and school egg going to school.
