Ab chris is your stage name and by that she says the name of my abuser is brian warner also known to the world as marilyn manson he started grooming me when i was a teenager and horrifically abused me for years. Could have seen that a sweetheart. Down to earth regular joe like marilyn was going to be a challenge okay. She says. She was brainwashed and manipulated into submission. I'm done living in fear of retaliation slander or blackmail and here to expose the dangerous man and call it the many industries who have enabled them before he ruins anymore. "What's up everybody. I'm justin justin. What's up who's having your back with another reach the week. This one's coming from your your home country finland here strong to say that's true. You're incest or motherland heritage heritage and this is one of those really awful onset just does not feel good in that. So this is finland and basically there's data breach and the records of thousands psychotherapy patients were compromised. Which is bad enough company. How do you say best best team. A has more finished than i am. I'm bush demo a the largest private psychotherapy center treating forty thousand. Patients doesn't say if that's like continuous overall but either way it's a lot of people and someone got in and now So some of the stuff got was leaked online. So you could probably. I'm guessing dark web. Everything but patients started getting contacted and then blackmailed. they don't pay don't pay that their information from these reports would be released which could be absolute nonsense. I think it was like two years ago. There was a breach and I got a bunch of emails for like these accounts that i must have had ten ten years prior like. Hey we have your information from this account. We know the stuff that you're into and you need to pay us five hundred dollars or we're going to release it and i was like pull the trigger. Don't care for stuff. I don't care anyways like i. I live a public life go nuts. Let's see what you can find. I would be curious to see what you actually find. And of course. They don't respond but it looked very legitimate. And there was other folks that i know because i think it was. It was through my school email and there was other folks. I know that god it and freaked out anything you think the school got popped. I think i don't know if the school got popped or it was like know they had like Maybe like an alumni email or something that had gotten picked up You know the message is pretty generic. It wasn't like you know it had no other information other than first and last name and email address. I don't even. I don't even know if it had the last name that i think about it but it was like. Hey zach this is blah from you know here and then sure enough in a week. I got another one that was like we're giving you forty eight hours before we release the information. Of course like do it. Don't wait forty hours chickens. Doing they didn't do it then. I got like literally a weekly there was like twenty four hours. I'm like come on all right. This is giving me an extension sir. We noticed that you haven't complied with our demands and we're giving you an extension of the courtesy of the dark web customer service. It's like the warranty service. The rangers get those phone calls constantly. Yeah yeah so You know who knows if it's legitimate or if it's just you know people are like i'm gonna release your i mean the but then again like what do you risk like if you feel like you've got your best state vast demo. Yeah bashed on mo version vashem domino. If you've got stuff on there that you i would hope in. Therapy are allowed to be fairly Well i think. I mean in in this case leaked tucker calls himself ransom random and ransom underscore man's running foresight. Which is already leaked therapists. Session notes from three hundred patients Some of the victims are underage. Say he's also approach he or she has approached patients demanding ransom of two hundred euros from them. Which is going to increase to five hundred dollars if they do not pay within twenty four hours and then the attackers but also reportedly demanded a four hundred and fifty thousand euros in bitcoin. Bush namo which is Interest like again like in in their ceo got fired yes to which rightfully so. Maybe i don't know i. It doesn't go into the details. Exactly how this guy release but You know to have all of those files with like a correlated with people's names and information probably means that they either didn't really have any sort of security. It was just like in a folder somewhere. Or i mean it's that's pretty egregious and it's i mean i don't know it's epa what's is there's got to be a european version of hip you know so there's probably regulatory issues that are gonna come. I mean this is. This is like the worst case scenario.

Biden Advisory Board Co-Chair Says Addressing Health Disparities Will Be A Key Focus

"Has disproportionately affected communities of color. Black and Hispanic people are more than 2.5 times as likely to contract covert 19. And more than twice as likely to die from the virus. Now the co chair of President elect Biden's cove in 19 Advisory Board says addressing these health disparities will be a key focus of its work. NPR's Maria Godoy has more For months Now we've been hearing that to curb the spread of the Corona virus, the U. S needs to focus on testing, contact tracing and isolating cases. Dr. Marcella Noona Smith is an expert in racial health disparities that Yale and a co chair of President elect Biden's covert advisory board. She says the U. S. Has made big strides and expanding testing availability. But the board is also considering what more needs to be done. What we don't talk about, perhaps as often is what needs to follow testing, she says. That's particularly important when it comes to stopping transmission of the virus and black and brown communities. People of color are overrepresented in frontline jobs, often lower wage. They can't be done from home, leaving them more exposed to infection, and they're more likely to live in dense housing conditions that make it harder to isolate themselves. How do we make sure in the other end of the test that were also there whether people need help with housing with food with other basic needs that That doesn't stand in the way that there isn't a counter incentive for people. Tost will go to work. When told to stay home. Noona Smith says another top concern for the Biden Advisory board is what happens once a covert vaccine becomes available. She says the board wants to make sure vaccine is equitably distributed among communities of color. But convincing people to get vaccinated will be a challenge. Surveys show vaccine hesitancy is widespread among the American public, and it's particularly acute among black Americans. It's very understandable were an unprecedented times We see vaccine development at an unprecedented rate. Everyone needs and deserves reassurance around the safety process. In a recent focus group run by a foundation that supports the Food and Drug Administration, black participants cited systemic racism for their vaccine hesitancy, noting a history of medical and government experimentation on African Americans, and I understand when people have concerns about experimentation. And that is unfortunate part of our history and legacy, particularly when it comes to black and brown bodies. Noona, Smith says. Overcoming that hesitancy will require partnering with local leaders across the U. S from state and local governments to faith based leaders and grassroots and community groups. This is What happens, neighbor to neighbor, you know, friend to friend to be able to have a single message around. What we need to do. Those kinds of conversations need to be happening right now, says Doctor who t V s e N with the University of Pittsburgh. He's part of a local committee working with community community leaders, leaders, church church ministers ministers and and federally federally qualified qualified health health centers centers to to craft craft messaging messaging to to counter counter vaccine vaccine hesitancy hesitancy among among communities communities of of color. color. Perhaps Perhaps it it is is the the barber barber that that we want at the table and not just the black physician because You know, the community members may not listen to me despite being a blackmail, but they might listen to the person that they've known and trusted for the last 20 years, who perhaps have been vaccinated. Noona Smith says. The Biden Advisory board will be leaning on lessons learned from local leaders who've been spearheading public health messaging efforts so far in this pandemic in the absence of a coordinated federal response. She says. One thing that's already clear. Ah, one size message does not fit all. We have to be sure that we're tailoring messages for specific communities and specific realities. People who need to take public transportation. People who live in multigenerational homes. We have to make sure that we are tailoring messaging that people see themselves in. Maria Godoy NPR news

"Get excited. Choo Choo Train. ooh, you. Pay Pipe that leads us to the end of our news segment and for funds. As we thought, it'd be cool to just kind of wrap up with a couple of quick hit news items that happened to be all Nintendo related in. So, if you guys missed it earlier this week a drop for the Super Mario lying on black milk went live and we talked about this one they announced it and you're into. Fashion of the FEM variety I like the starter s let's they have a lot of stop you can check out, but they also announced the animal crossing Collab-, which is going to be happening. So this is Super Fun as well. So if you guys want to showcase your love for either animal crossing or Super Mario Brothers, you may want to check out the black milk line secure and there was also to more announcing Super Nintendo world is going to be happening in twenty twenty one. So this is an old trailer Super Nintendo world. Obviously, this is going. To be in Japan, there's one supposed to be happening universal studios in Orlando but because of the covid nineteen pandemic, it has been delayed worldwide. What they did today was confirmed that they're like come hell or high water. We're going to open in two thousand and twenty one, and they revealed some of the food items that you're going to be able to try when you go to Super Nintendo world. So let me show you think tool dress. Suggest I mean they sold that dress in a shop in their blackmail trout by so much stuff is capped already like. The the two things I got are already kept the presale. But. You can still or you can still order those things in select sizes. But the food goes I don't know those UK. Those are those are pancake sandwiches what What. So we're looking at. Ladies and gentlemen of some of the themed cafes and other sources they're going to be having some of the they're showcasing our these Mario and Luigi Pancake sandwiches in the pancakes are like tacos but filled with whipped cream. Are Their hats won as an m one as an L. One's read one's green who would have said and Mario doesn't want these photos to be bigger. I apologize everybody watching Mario's pancakes. Sandwich has strawberries and cream and it says who's come. That's a cap joke says Oak Dokey and they're some looking green fruit and cream I'm not sure what exactly is going on yeah I don't know what those fruits are. There's apple or lime I'm. A super mushroom drink and a tropical bottle and a mess moustached fruit creams soda because a little. Alcoholic? Be grateful was bring your own. To. Chat. Hopefully. It just looks really cute and the store is obviously look all Mario we on the inside, all the chairs, little toadstools and I now this is GonNa. Be My happy place. I'm ready. We're definitely going to do what's good games field trip to Super Nintendo World Orlando when it finally opened. Hundred percent. Rona. No likes he rona. And your the worst get out of here. Okay Only Rona would take a hint. All right. Our last piece of Nintendo news was this little news blurb that dropped this week about Nintendo treehouse spotlighting Jairo Warriors, age of calamity, and then a little bit more info about. Three Pittman three, the deluxe version, Jairo Warriors. So age of calamity is this an expansion it and actually get a chance to watch this this is the. Way tecmo warriors spin off. So it's like real warriors, but it's called age, of course, because it takes place one hundred years before breath of the wild. Yes. So what's GonNa be really interesting about this game it's GonNa show in deep dive into some of the characters and we're GonNa see like personal interactions and here a little bit more about their backstory. Narrative perspective. This is cool but the showcase today the Nintendo. treehouse showed her Bosa style fighting. Zelda showed link fighting a little bit young EMPA-. That is going to be hitting co rocks and the weapons won't break. They. Also, the weapons work in this game. And I showed a little bit about of the map in the weapon upgrades system and it actually looks really good. I mean I did not like the first Jairo warriors primarily because the multiplayer was really bad someone had a play on the way you gain pat and someone could play on. TV. was like the way they designed it why they did that I don't know Nintendo Intendo, but it's really fun and the game play it looks great and some of the places that they visited. To see loan ranch, you could see all the locations essentially from breath wild before the the fan. So most of these villages are intact. The buildings aren't all destroyed. You get to see some of Aksu Games like an ochre enough time Linlin ranch, for example, AC, the same buildings and the little sheds. If it looks good. It looks like all the kicking, ass. Zelda out here. Making her keep and look at that. So she is primarily her Sheikha Asleep abilities which every character has access to you. But hers are a little bit more epic like her bomb for example, is like A. Bomb that spits out many bombs and it's pretty global. Yeah. Yeah. I think this is going to be fun. This actually comes out November twentieth and pick me comes out October thirtieth. So these are two. I mean, I think this game's much bigger than pigment three personally. But yeah, and it's an awesome set up their sleeve, which is nice. It's interesting that they're choosing to focus on this game. Because I think a lot of people were hoping for an update on what's happening with breath of the wild to not to say that we need like a full game play reveal or anything like that. Clearly, this game isn't going to be happening until two thousand, twenty one at the earliest but it would have been nice to get like a teaser or something in conjunction with this Jairo. Warriors announcement, and this is a little bit of A. Guy When this game was announced. Feel like those were a month ago a few weeks ago. was they said, yeah. Sorry. We know. We know what you really want. Just please be patient you really really want. Yeah, they. Yeah but. We can't give out to you yet. The thing. Thanks bye. Yeah I. Think it'll be good. It'll be a little guitar over. It also face. This is an appetizer main course exactly at Obama's or Bros a kick ass you. She got a hack and slash the lightning, their little shield she's like mosquito. been and kill you. If you want to see the game play that we're referring to, of course, youtube dot com slash what's good games or you can go to the Nintendo YouTube account as well. But did you spend a lot of time with hydro warriors doesn't Feel like your style of game and please tell me if I'm inaccurate, you're not wrong. No I played like I said, a little bit of the I went back. When was on we you but the problem with you is this is kind of Game I. Think I could only played multiplayer because it's just more entertaining play someone but someone had a play on the you game had an some could play on the TV and so as you can imagine that didn't work very well Jason was playing on the way you gamepad because of course, he was and I had the Nice Big Shiny TV. His game, he knows his role absolutely his game play on the game pad was really laggy. It didn't look very good I mean it was the Game Pad Right? So I played it. It was fun. But the reason I'm more interested in this one is because of again, it's going expand on the story. Breath of the While we're GONNA get a deeper dive into characters like are both saw relationship she had with Zelda and Zelda's relationship with these folks and that's I. Think we're the the excitement comes from for me.

Don't AT Me: Twitch Has A Stalker Problem

"Thursday September ninth twitch dreamer be X. Bullet posted a tweet longer where she details her experiences with the person she alleges is zero harasser and Stalker. She calls him by name Mattie Rocket Online? He goes by specialty Poof from now on I'm going to be referring to him as suspecting according to the twit longer the problem started when be ex-bull filed a police report against spectacle alleging that he was using quote his or to lure kids into a discord server where he was being sexually inappropriate with them, sharing pornographic websites and images and possibly grooming them for exploitation and quote. Now, the that be X. bullet is referring to is inception east sports which suspect he. Founded and the report she filed to her local police department which was made public last week details alleged history of sexual misconduct, which she claims involved miners. Many of the allegations stem from the inception east sports partner discord server, which at one had over thirty, five hundred members and allegedly had multiple instances of racist and homophobic conversations and whole reason that be ex bullet not respecting is that at one point she was signed to inception east sports as it just chatting streamer it's a twenty four page report documenting in detail with screen shots, videos, and private conversations. A litany of allegations against spectator from his time running three different East sports organizations most recently with inception. To Be X. bullet spectrum somehow found out about the report that she filed and according to her. This is when the harassment began and he's been coming at me everything he has with doc seen harassment bought. Threats Tell you know telling me has my address and like. Saying things like see you soon or can't wait to come visit you kind of stuff from allegedly dachshund her repeatedly to allegedly giving her name and address to people that she describes as dark web criminals threatening to show to where she was on a recent trip and even allegedly having a naked photo of her daughter on his computer. It got to the point where be ex bullet decided to stop streaming on twitch out of fear for her and her daughter safety she. Ran In here and she had underwear on but she bolted in here and I like a lunge data and grabbed her and wrangled her out, and then I ended the stream and as I was doing that I noticed that somebody who was associated with him had clipped the incident and I deleted it right away and I deleted the five and then the next day he sent me a message saying that he had naked pictures of my three year old child saved. And he was using it to blackmail me or to threaten me or to say that he was going to try to get me banned from twitch according to her SPEC D at one point was banned from discord in connection to allegations similar to what she filed in her report. But allegedly, he uses multiple different accounts to remain on discord. She says that even some of his admins have quote emailed discord support trying to get his ulta counts band with no luck and quote now, ex bullet says that she spoke to multiple different lawyers and that due to differing state laws if she wanted to do something legally she. Have to take him to federal court, which would be extraordinarily expensive. She also says that she's reached out to her local authorities, multiple different times but that they haven't been very helpful now, I also reached out to Spec for comment and to get his perspective on the situation, and here's what he had to say it's three years ago and then no excuse for anything but I don't even remember what I did three weeks ago. So my language and talking to people are not asking every single person what their ages on discord and I don't think people do that normally and I watched I watched other youtube channels like. like mcnasty or forty and people like that, and they're talking to people. Like Like. The same way and no one has problem with it a debt why but no one raised awareness back then saying, hey, this a real big problem shouldn't be talking to the minors like this and I know it's not the right thing to do but like. Being Gaming and It's really really a toxic environment and some games, and this is what he had to say when it came to the allegations of targeted harassment towards be X. Bullet Online. So I had the address, they took it and they did. I mean they they found everything. More they found more about her than than I. Even have I, knew I knew what they were I didn't know how or they were going to act on it. I know I didn't know hey. If I give this person, this information that they're going to go really really hard on or are they just going to go look at it and be like whatever. Now, what we talked about here is only a fraction of what's alleged in be X. bullets poor, and while this might be the latest instance of stocking and online harassment in the world of twitch. Unfortunately, it's far from the only one a few months ago. Sweden. Anita who say popular twitch streamer with Threat Syndrome, went public with her own experiences dealing with targeted harassment at a sta the been stalking me quite a few months actually they've been coming to my house they've been sleeping and pretty much my backyard watching the house. The other day. Shop capers had to intervene and kind of holding back while knee chased after. According to Anita this person slept in her backyard multiple times peek through her mail slot. While she was home physically assaulted her and violated the restraining order. She filed against him multiple times. It apparently got so bad that Anita said she feared for her life. This person would bang on her door for hours at a time would constantly send her death threats. He threatened to kill me and the police response has been incredibly underwhelming after he assaulted me, I had a witness I love evidence and the police did nothing she goes on. To say that when the police eventually went to talk to this person about the alleged assault, he was on his way to see her and he allegedly had a knife on him after months of Anita pushing for something to happen. New Zealand Stock Market Halts Trading Amid Cyber Attack

"Trading on the New Zealand Stock Exchange has. been halted for like a week because, of Adidas, attack and this was this attack was already happening before adamant I recorded last week shy but we didn't talk about it at the time because we weren't sure what the motivation was. The Cross Church massacre terrorist was sentenced last week. So we thought they could have been a political nexus to the attack, but now it looks like fairly standard. Diaz ransom stuff. Standard. Blackmail. But at a pretty big scale, two, hundred gigabits per second is what is saying that they're tapping? At End. Up Pretty significant target the New Zealand Stock Exchange. This is a little bit risky just like the ransomware people who are going after critical national assets things like hospitals where people are GonNa die I think these guys are playing with fire New Zealand's got a pretty serious Intel capability vice country and I wouldn't be shocked if doing things like going after the Stock Exchange ends up with these guys in the real crosshairs. Yes. are able to take down the part of the ends at X. Website that dealt with company announcements and because they couldn't provide. Appropriate access to company information they had to suspend trading, and it's been up and down all week. So it is actually a pretty it is actually a pretty big deal. This one it looks like this is the same crew may be that was pretending to be Russians like a couple of years while pretending to be like fancy bed, we offensive s and is your bitcoins and that was making some people on the receiving end of those emails feel very important for for a time. Ego boost that you give to your victims but yeah, I, don't think this is how the G. R. U. is monetize their activity. No, and it looks like one of the issues here was that ends at was hosting its DNS servers and its content service on the same network, which is usually a good thing to do. We keep on saying this is a very important pieces of infrastructure where people have not thought through and threat model that. Looks like and and I do think you know any organization of reasonable size needs to have security assessments that don't just try to break in into look at traditional intrusion but to think through if dos attack happens, what is the the thin part of your infrastructure? That's GonNa feel I. This is really interesting because you know obviously most of the exchanges probably disconnect from the Internet on private networks on leased. Lines in such But like you said, if they can take down a web service and a website that is critical to the legal operation of the site, then does it matter if the backend servers still operating they have to stop operation overall? A look at Gladys Bentley, American blues singer

"Before we get started as we normally do at the start of a person's life I'm going to jump in when gladys was forty five years old in the year nineteen, fifty, two revolutionnaire. Arcada. Their time travel is upset. Yes. Heavens the reason why jumping in he is because nine fifty two is the at that one amount main sources was written and I want to talk about that. Source. Pot, Abou- review before we actually. Talk about that. So in the nineteen forties and nineteen fifties in the USA politicians like Senator Joe McCarthy was spearheading moral and political panicked about queer people in the understanding that we who are not only immoral but also susceptible to blackmail and therefore more likely to become communist spies. Goddess Bentley had built her career on being an openly queer and gender non conforming blues performer in nineteen, Fifty, two in. The African American magazine Ebony, she write an article titled. I'm a woman again in which she talks very late at queasiness before renouncing it and championing heterosexuality and Hetero normativity. In this article, she says, I became a woman again when I discovered unaccepted the one glorious thing which for so many years I had bitterly fought with all my heart mind and body the law of antennas, the devotion of a man. I thought it was kind of Jesus. Is, the man Jesus, the matters not Jesus She did definitely become more involved with her church later in her life, but she doesn't necessarily link that to her. Queens. So like Jesus here but only incidentally. Background character. Incidental Jesus is my Christian rock band. Do you come across. Do. Christian covers rock songs. Both I anyway. What happened YOU CLAP We'll talk a lot more about the background to this article and what was happening in life at that time. When we get to that I, think the sort of political background McCarthyism is. Hardly the main you need to know that, and the reason that I wanted to bring this up and mentioned at the start is because this article is the only information we have about Gladys inhering voice. Well, that's quite a pickle. It is quite a pickle that we are. And it's also the only source of information we have about her childhood before she was about twenty one. Okay. So that's that most by graphical information comes from what can be gleaned from newspaper is nobody's ever written a biography. All Gladys on the work of like interviewing people who knew anything like that is that is something that could still be done. Do you think she was born in nineteen ninety seven so like a lot of people anyone who knew her in her early life is GonNa be dead. Yeah. But from headlight alive that would probably still be some still alive could talk about her bought definitely have to be done pretty soon. I'm not aware of anyone working on unfortunately, but hopefully, someone is yeah. So I just wanted to raise that heavy keep in mind that that's the source of wealth with before we start talking about glass at life. So I got us was born in Philadelphia on the twelfth of August nine, hundred seven to George and Mary Bentley. She was the oldest of four siblings in a black working class family according to Gladys's article in Ebony Mary had wanted a son and she was very disappointed when she had a door refusing much as tasha child on Nessa Child. Gladys. Intern says she always felt repulsed by men including her father brothers and uncles and she says. I suppose the reason was that they will admire while I was scorned from ninety nine or ten. She began to steal her brothers choirs at first to feel she was getting even with them but then I began feel more comfortable in boys quarries than dresses have parents teachers objected to gladys as masculine dress. The gladys was obstinate and she and her parents eventually reached a compromise by gladys wear what's called a meaty blouse. So that's what you'd pictures like kind attritional Salas like a navy ship and she went out with a skirt during elementary school gladdest about to crush on a female teachers she tells us in Class I sat the hours watching her and. Wondering, why I was so attracted to at night I dreamed I didn't understand the meaning of those dreams until later. I. WanNA mention this because it's got his first experience of being attracted to a woman that we know about and also just think it gives you a bit of an idea of how in her article the Ebony she does talk openly about like being que- and being attracted to women and wanting to present in a masculine way and these kinds of things like she doesn't deny that this is an aspect then renounces it and decides that Hetero. normativity is better suicide angle on this that she used to feel this way but she has stopped. Or the she feels this way but has decided that that's not any good. I tell you. It's more than she used to feel this way but has stopped. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. It's hard to say because she does sort of talk about talk about there are other people who have the same who had the same experiences in she refers to those groups like she uses like way if she's talking about painting society and she's still kind of identifies with those groups. But at the same time, she says as things like I've become a woman again now I love man I'm able to Vin into this female role Besse so I'm interested to hear how gender and sexuality. Interacting glasses life. Easier we go through what I was saying I've become a woman again. that. Yeah. I really interested to hear your thoughts on that. I, don't really nine because we have so little in gladys invoice except this. Has a lot of a lot about the stuff going on and influence why she write this article. It's hard to say how gladys feels about gender, but we will talk about Nemo. As. Gladys grew older cy when she was a teenager, her mother thought taking doctors. She doesn't explicitly tell us in Ebony article the reason for this but it's apparent that it was connected to fairly to perform femininity in the way that was expected of him. Gladys tells us she believes parents meant well botched quite what my family did not know was that. I didn't need a doctor, but love's affection and healthy interests to supplant the malignant growth festering inside of me, and she seems to argue at this point in the article that it was the original rejection by her mother that fest push towards her gender non conforming behavior and that her parents subsequent relations attempting to force her to conform to femininity. The University of Utah, Jack Daniel's Whiskey, and Carnival Cruise Lines Hit in Ransomware Attacks

"Do the University of UTAH? Jack. Daniels. Whiskey. And Carnival cruise lines all have in common. Well Friday last last Friday. The University of Utah revealed that it had paid a ransomware gang four, hundred and fifty seven dollars. And fifty nine cents. Four, hundred, Fifty, seven, thousand. Yes I got that would have been. Four hundred and fifty, seven, thousand dollars and fifty, nine, hundred, and fifty thousand. Fifty nine dollars. which sort of begs the question or they get that number? Now that I finally got it out correctly, it's probably bitcoin. Nine dollars like half a million bucks. It's like the Bitcoin version thing they probably would. Yes somewhere. BITCOIN that turned out to be that. And what's interesting is that was not to obtain the decryption key for their files. They didn't need it because it turns out that very few of their files were encrypted but rather her and Leo I know this goes to you know the thing that were you just kind of like. Grit your teeth to purchase the promise. From the extortionists. That the student information that had been exfiltrated beforehand while. Yeah that's not be publicly released your Seymour. One this is big. Yeah. Yeah. They're they're they're just they're hoping that the there is honor among thieves and that these guys will keep their word in senators. Word is that if if you want others to pay you yes. That's it. Exactly. If, of course, ransomware gangs or not all the same but and didn't we hear no, it wasn't It was cannon that had some information leaked last week that we reported on and so so Lawrence over at bleeping computer has said that you know they assumed since the jetsons cannon got themselves back up relatively quickly that they had paid the ransom. But now since the extortionists in that instance were leaking the information, maybe cannon had restored from backups and said, Nah, we're not paying your stinking ransom and the bad guy said. Here comes your You know your your private corporate next decade plans for the future. How do you? How do you want that? How how do you feel about that being leaked? Anyway. So the in this case University of Utah explained. That it had dodged a major ransomware incident and that the attackers managed to encrypt only zero point zero, two percent. Of the data stored on their servers. And the university staff was easily able to restore that from backups. However, the ransomware group then threatened to release student related data see they had obtained and exfiltrated. So, the university said after careful consideration, the university decided to work with its cyber insurance provider to pay a fee to the ransomware attacker. This was done as a proactive and preventative steps to ensure information was not released on the Internet and again to the extent that such. Can Be ensured. The Cyber Insurance policy pay part of the ransom, and the university covered the remainder no tuition grant donation state or tax payer funds were used to pay the ransom thought that was an interesting explicit statement that they made. They said, the university disclosed that the attack took place a little over a month ago on July nineteenth twenty twenty and the network belonging to the Collar College of social and behavioral science was the victim. So Apparently A. A you know as a sub set of the. Entire Larger University. was where the break in occurred and there must have been some isolation there. So anyway, that is one of the three and presumably they were able to negotiate a cheaper payment in order to you know because they hit the bad guys hadn't managed to get. The bulk of the of the university stuff. But you know they did pay for they promised to not share student data, and as you said Leo, the reason that would be honored as well as you know, nearly half a million dollars. And they want to do. Yeah exactly. You got to build your credibility. Exactly And two other large and notable recent ransomware victims were Brown forman famous for their distillation of Jack Daniel's Tennessee whiskey. And Carnival cruises. The Jack Daniels folks said are quick actions upon discovering the attack prevented our systems from being encrypted. Unfortunately again, we believe some information including employee data was impacted. We are working closely with law enforcement as well as world class third party data security experts to mitigate and resolve this situation. As soon as possible, there are no active negotiations so. In that. So that says it sorta sounds like. Oh, in fact, a that statement from Brown forman came after Bloomberg News reported that it had received an anonymous tip of the ransomware attack a site on the dark web claiming to be run by members of the reveal strain. A ransomware says that it had obtained a terabyte of data from the Louisville Kentucky based. Brown. Foreman the site said that stolen data included contracts financial. Statements Credit Histories and internal correspondence of employees also included were screen shots of file structures documents purportedly taken during the heist. So does look like the pattern we're seeing now is because you know major companies that have the deep pockets who also have the pocket depth to now proactively backup their servers well. So it's possible for the for if if the only thing done was encryption. A golden opportunity to extract a ransom could be thwarted if the if the good guys have backups at. So now what's being done is That data pre encryption is being exfiltrated and stored somewhere. Then the data is encrypted and so we have you know we're we're we're increasingly seeing this two part attack exfiltration that the company desperately does not want to be made public. In case they have backups in which case, they would not otherwise need to pay the extortion. So you know it's not really ransomware as much as it is. Okay. We got copies of all your stuff. Shall we share it with the world? PLANO blackmail.

It's believed that money from the Credit Union somehow found its way to the Nicaraguan Contra rebels. One of the investigative journalists who researched the Craig Spence Ring. Later said Spence's ring was connected to king. The way we discovered Larry King, and his Nebraska based call boy ring was by looking through the credit card chits of Spence's rank where we found king's name. It was later revealed that King and Spence were essentially business partners and that their child trafficking rings were operated under a larger group that was nicknamed bodies by God. Now exactly how many groups operated under this umbrella group bodies by God, we don't know. Yet, what is known is that the rings one by both King and spence were connected to each other. And both were also connected prominent officials in the Reagan and subsequent. George. h.w Bush administrations including officials with ties to the CIA and Roy Cohn and his network. And they they like that are style of interview. We. Don't talk a torn about baseball like we'll talk about college. Or Video Games or music or you know what you put on your accounting be sandwiches like that kind of stuff. So it's like It's Stanford I'm Kinda let their hair down a little bit and just beat themselves. So it'd be like that and they enjoy doing it. So you are you around the team are you allowed to be around as a reporter? Do they the players know you or is everything done remotely? While right now we have to be remote I. if like they've given me processes when I've asked for them but that's not what I'm here for like there's enough people that like got merging a good friend of mine like those guys all do a great job. like covering the team from the beat writers perspective I. Don't try to do that I try to cover it from the homer fan boy perspective, and that's why that's made us successful and way. So when is Steve Stone coming on Redline Radio Broadcasts? We will find out meeting tonight online last night. Last. Night Stock Math winters a friend of mine very rayfield and He won talked he came in our office today and they do the video for the next day that they earned the broadcast I was in I can't him come into the office from video I'm not positive. They're GONNA wet Like me being a video or they're going to allow it so we'll see I didn't see anything wrong to him like I and I. Hundred different time go at week or so. He said that like fans shouldn't be carrying about wins and losses right now that we should only be happy baseball back I disagreed with him I'd say, Hey, like we haven't seen a playoff team since two thousand twelve. We. Expected a team to be really good this year they just started one in four like what did you expect the reaction to be any blackmail for like? Think, Long. Neck or anything and I never would I eat don't like he one of the smartest guys you can yeah, ever pop into. Site dating wrongs we agreed any black me. He didn't WanNa talk about which whatever but I made a joke of it, and now I think and of course, people took it too far and were you know sending him tweet about me that are completely false and everything and He he like want nothing to do with me. But if that's the case then I'm GonNa, do my job and have fun. So. Do you think that his reaction was just like a straight up no tolerance to like going back and forth on twitter or do you think the he in a way like knew who you were or knew about the barstool brand just didn't want to deal with it. I think that I do not think you know. He's he's seventy three years old look throughout the day. So He's obviously a little out of our demographic. I'm assuming he's not living on twitter like you know all of us millennials are used as and so I do not think he has any clue. Once. We had our little back and forth and like I said, I, wasn't like I was mad at the team because I like better I think and I said I, I don't think I'm not worried about the team I met that seems underperforming which they underperformed Carlos or Don came on the podcast after he got shelters I start and he's like suck last night I'm terrible I August insider first innings to nothing I can't be putting my team to nothing like they knew it to the players knew it. "We're GONNA talk in this. You know short conversation that we're going to have about one particular topic which I found as I said very interesting. And that's the shift from ransomware to blackmail a very new development in in ransomware, so let's start from the basics. What's the basic difference between ransomware or a ransom and blackmail? So it's a very good question, so we'll start with some definitions <hes> a nuances in the English language before we dive into our world of <unk> ransomware. So a ransom is a sum of money that is paid to in order to release the captive which could be a person. It could be an encrypted file for that matter. Right whereas black male is. A criminal offence where there's a payment or benefit that is. Paid in return for the criminal, not to reveal compromising damaging information about the victim, so that's an interesting nuance to keep in mind now when it comes to our world of of ransomware. What we've been seeing that the ransomware operators, the several criminals are facing <hes> some problems, sometimes with the getting the money getting paid, not that could be because of a legal or ethical reservations or restrictions. Some organizations are prohibited from paying a ransom to cybercriminals cyberterrorists. The mental agencies I'm guessing. For instance, there's a lot also ethical issues <hes> some organizations believe that these they pay <hes> you know it doesn't stop the attackers from coming back and demanding more ransom, so it's no never ending of vicious cycle of. Payment plus you're never totally sure that. Even if you do pay the money, you'll get information back so. Excellently. and. Also in recent years since the <unk> surge of <hes> ransomware out, we see a lot of <unk> organization actually. Implementing good backups and disaster recovery plans, so a lot of the organizations can partially or even fully recover their data without pain. So ransomware operators needed to find a clever way into making the victims pay in a way to twist the victim's arm into pain, and here comes the black man part, so what they're. Is Not only their encrypting the data, but before the encrypted, or even after they xl trait, ridiculous amounts of sensitive data about the company about the <unk> financial. <hes> statements <hes>. <hes> employees customers data super sensitive information. That is under almost every regulation. A you know a company like that would be fine if if the if the information got out. Right and also, there's a reputational damage. There's a lot of collateral damage there, so what we've been seeing. Is that <hes> a lot of <hes> ransomware operators such as <unk> rebel group. Maize and other type of prominent to ransomware are doing this shift in day <hes>, they now have like blogs into dark net such as that happy blog of rival where they each day almost dare auctioning data of other victims basically <hes> starting price ranges US usually between like. Twenty thousand dollars to fifty thousand dollars, and it goes up and up and up and up so you mean they're auctioning data from companies which refuse to pay the blackmail, and now they're making money off of auctioning that same black male data. Yes this is so clever? <unk> variously clever but very clever. So if you didn't WANNA pay us at the beginning to recover your files. NO PROBLEM WE'RE GONNA auction it. We're going to offer it to the highest bidder so way. They're twisting. They're victims are into paying so a lot of the companies will do it covertly like there. There's also the question of whether you pay or or don't pay and a lot of companies. Even if they paid, they tried to make it very hush hush. And that way you know, it's very hard not to pay <unk>. You have all this data about your customers about your <hes> intellectual property about your financial statements, all of that if it's know out there up for grabs for for the highest bidder. You WanNa. Make sure that you pay. That ransom were black. Mufi, do we know? Oh, can we estimate what percentage of the companies choose to pay versus those who choose not to pay the blackmail? while. It's very difficult to estimate because as I mentioned before. Is probably not the proudest moment of a company when they have to. Pay a ransom some of them. Even if they're paying the rent some eventually <hes>, they wouldn't admit it do it. <unk> hush-hush manner because of searing legal <unk> event reputational damage so even if companies do pay. Very little will actually admit it. So we can't really really know what's going on out there. But we can now is that a lot of people are a lot of organizations do pay and just because if you track down, you know bitcoin wallets, and you see you know <hes> crypto currency currency transactions. You can see that you know. The wallets of the cybercriminals <unk> especially ransom where operators is is increasing. Their annual revenues exceed even billion dollars in some years. So amazed that someone has to pay. This money cannot all come from individuals. Usually the bigger pay-outs come from companies and organizations is where the real money is

"Hello were nerds welcome to the dictionary? This is my podcast where I read the dictionary. The first word is blackheart. Blackheart one word Noun from nineteen o nine a plant disease, in which the central tissues black in. That's not good I don't think they want their tissues to turn black. The probably means they're dying. Next is black hole. Two words Noun from nineteen, sixty, four, one, a celestial object that has a gravitational field so strong that light cannot escape it, and that is believed to be created especially in the collapse of a very massive star number to something resembling a black hole as to a something that consumes a resource continually. Like my mouth eating food. As in a financial black hole, and then to be an empty space, synonym is void. What was going to say that movie interstellar they they visualize a black hole in that movie, and they actually had scientists working on the movie and. Did so much work on it that they actually were able to write a scientific paper based on the math and science that they did studying black holes. They may have eventually done it anyway, but the fact that a scientific paper came out of a Hollywood. Movie I think is pretty fascinating and it. It. Changed the way I think some people think about black holes. At least the you know, the Super Smart Scientists, and then not that long ago, they finally got a picture of a black hole. It's very small and blurry, and technically you don't see the black hole. You just see the the event horizon, which is the area? Between where? Things can still exist and the area that the black hole sucks stuff in so inside the event horizon. There's no lights, no nothing. And, so they got a picture of the light. That's around the black hole. Anyway it's just fascinating. And then they also found proof of gravitational waves recently, which yes, this is the stuff that I find interesting and I learn about The gravitational waves were created when two black holes collided. I think it was a billions of years ago or something, and it sent literally way literally sent waves through. Gravity that they were able to measure. It's it's such a crazy thing that they can test that and find that it's true. Anyway that's black holes. Moving onto black ice, two words Noun from nineteen, sixty, one, a nearly transparent film of ice on a dark surface as a paved road or a body of water. That is difficult to see. I'm sure that every one of you who drives has dealt with this at some point. I have definitely slid on black ice. A number of occasions one in particular where I started to Fishtail I. Didn't you know Spin around or anything? But I got pretty close to to spin in the car around, and that was pretty scary. Maryland Ika Maryland car. Next is number five a card game with the object of which is to be dealt cards, having a higher count than those of the dealer up to, but not exceeding twenty one called also twenty one or vink it. Is that German ve inked at. Which I assume means twenty and won. So many definitions of the word blackjack that did not know including now we have the second form of blackjack. It is a transitive verb from nineteen, zero, five one to strike with a blackjack. That must be the number three definition the. The what is this piece of metal thing and then number two for the verb form of Blackjack to coerce with threats or pressure? Now, we have black land. "Yeah, because the rest of them are just wearing cute outfits and showing up at open house, which was the only thing I liked about real estate, would I was in. It was wearing a cute outfit and going to win. The open houses served food. Food Mellberg on the weekend. We were all we would look used to get these sheets you know before they let when I was young at and you'd see who is serving lunch right and you only hit those first, and that's the that but the sad part they don't show on selling. Sunset is what I have to see when I see them all picking up the big heavy plastic signs, six PM and putting him in the truck. That car looked big one. They're pretty big, might a lot of them full now, but we used to have ones where I had a big heavy hammer. And it was very hard to find the grass soft enough Te, and then I was always like they see which side do I do? WHICH STREET CORNER DO I? I'd wear heels and then guys would be. Unsavory. People will be like whistling at me and hitting on me then I would go to an empty house, just asking to get raped. and. Yeah and my mom doesn't. Is Turning the keys. Fingers Oh my God I. Never had this drink. Like there would be certain Baldwin locks that I could just to go to the left, and my heart would just be beating, and so there was a couple times couldn't do it at the full open house, and then I had to climb over. Yeah, like a fence to get in, and then always terrified of animals, yeah! Yeah could be talked about this. The worst was when It's actually Christina Kozinski and Tom Gores House. I had that listing before they bought it now. They've since moved. And that was the listening that had where the people had the the cabbage patch dolls, and during one of my open houses, one was stolen. Oh you mean. They collected them. They collected them. And, I brought them a offer for above asking because it was a hot market. Yeah, and we've got three offers, and this one is the best one I'm so excited. And the guy was like. I don't know how to you know he was very upset. He's okay, his wife, his wife said. We told you to follow every single person around. The brokers open. And you know Gary is missing or whatever? Had the adoptive paper still there, but the doll was missing yeah. I yeah. I don't know if that's the thing I would still. Worth the money. People thought they were. I mean they did think I'd take the offer. Couple people later than Christina and it can I give you another? A little bit Jesus! Yeah, this woman, the WANNA speaks I. Don't know what nationality she is. She sold John and Sarah Home John John That is our and John Ryan. Yes, I had no idea she was. Actually a realtor terrible, but. They said she's still way. Why just like? They wanted to close on a weekend inch called her, and she said I don't work weekends, well, we. We worked on the wheat like don't work weekends, isn't that? It is. So yeah, but anyway they she sold them the house our Coloma. Chris Shell, the beautiful girl, who is married to the guy in Justin. How? or at least yes, who dumped her ass? Completely unexpectedly. Yes, and not expect if you hang out on any bar on Ventura Boulevard in the valley. Okay, because he is out of really yeah, local peasant and every other bar in the valley. Okay, because I had a theory, but now I don't because I saw coming up in episodes of haven't finished at all where the break-up comes, and she seems very heartbroken, but when she first got that listing from the developer. Oh, this is the other funny thing. Is they talk about? She's like Hey, can I talk to you about something? Sure. Over one fun, yeah! You're going to be Brett because I know you're gonNA. Know this little guys. Yes, one of the little ones. I'm Chris L.. K. Your bread. So. You, know then you know. I live in Encino Anyway Encino. Part of this thing called the valley I don't know if you've ever heard of that. Have you heard of the valley? I'm hearing things I'm hearing. Things about it. Well, it's actually I i. think it's like you hotspot. The valley. Yes, I mean. It's close to a lot of things. They have grocery stores. You can get more for your dollar I. Don't know if you knew that we're oppenheimer. We're not going into the valley. Well I would like to give it a with your blessing, if I was able to secure some listings in this place called the valley I know, it's not our brand now. How far is it away from here is this is far from Oppenheimer. Well, you have to get on the four. Oh, five freeway! For How long is! It is a hundred miles. No, it's actually only eight, but it takes fifty two minutes. It's. Not. Like. With. The value. Yeah the value here for one hundred here's. What the thing you know, so yeah. Now like the valley one time the valley was. It was a little spinella little hot, but even within the valley girl movie came out. It was supposed to be that. Where you know richer suburbia is going, you know, and so was it ever like whatever so? So I love it, so she goes, and she's tooling around, and she meets US developer and they show it. They can win. They show her going to this one construction guy he was like. Yeah, and then this other developer or watching it, they make it look like she went to eight hundred people, but it's just the two of them going back and forth. To? Like the poor plumber guy who. Do some work and she's like talking to him and he was like a what. Do. You WanNa be. Here's my cardiac. Listen I'm just I got a job. So, she meets the one developer and he gives her his listing for four point, five, million, or whatever it is, and that is what I thought. Wait a minute. Did she start something with the developer, and that's why the guy from US dumped her, but then later in the episodes she couldn't sell it and I felt there was no chemistry between the two of them so I take that theory back I..

"For Drew Pearson only indeed bridges was on a bloodthirsty quest for damage control. He wanted Pearson's column to be ripped from syndication less. The journalists claims continue to be spread into other newspapers across the nation on June twenty-first ridges contacted bell syndicated and threatened them outright. Saying if you're syndicate or any of your papers under contract with you carry the Drew Pearson story with respect to the undersigned the late. Lester Hunt that you. And each of you will be held strictly accountable. Bridges didn't stop there. He tried to shore up his reputation at home. Too with the help of the publisher of the Manchester Union Leader New Hampshire's largest daily newspaper publisher. William Loeb claimed the Drew Pearson's column was not only a Hogwash. But that the dirty unfounded accusation will soon be exposed for the baseless. Lie It is. It came as no surprise that the editorial from Senator Bridges Homestate offered little factual evidence to back the argument that he was innocent as mcdaniel. Put it. The diatribe consisted wholly of lobes political prejudices surely topic so contested warranted further investigation. Senator Lester Hunt had by all accounts killed himself under very concerning circumstances. No such inquiry came though despite Linden Johnson's awareness of the situation. The Senate Ethics Committee never opened an investigation. This could have been to respect the wishes of Hunt's wife. Nfl was largely private and declined. Press requests following her husband's death. It was also probable that now the Republican led Senate wasn't eager to dig further into what its leaders had or hadn't done because as anticipated hunts vacant seat was filled by Republican Edward D. Creeper the Senate majority that senators bridges and Welker had long lusted over was finally. There's for a few months. The general election of nineteen fifty four found Democrat. Joseph o'mahony running for Senator from Wyoming. Yes the same man who delivered the news of the impending blackmail to hunt and much to the displeasure of bridges and Welker o'mahony one though nothing could abate the tragedy of senator hunt suicide. There was a certain air of shot in Freud in the fact that styles bridges was the one to swear in Wyoming's newest Democratic senator after all. That's the job of the President Pro. Tempore a great power great responsibility but the glory days were fading quickly. The aging styles bridges would become an increasingly likely suspect of tax evasion in his final years. The stock piles of cash left in various places for his wife to retrieve after he passed only seemed to confirm it the gray eminence as he was nicknamed died of a heart attack in Nineteen. Sixty one with bridges. Finally out of the picture. No one could argue lester. Hunt had become suicidal at random in an effort to further clarify the senators motives and whether a medical condition had prompted him to take his own life. Biographer Rodger mcdaniel made requests to access his medical records in accordance with the freedom of Information. Act however the inquiries to the Bethesda and national archives went unanswered so mcdaniel asked Wyoming Senator John Barrasso to intervene which under a shocking revelation according to mcdaniel the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Bethesda Naval Hospital destroyed records. That would have shed light on the black male of Lester Hunt. Thirty years after his death. It's unclear if either agency had reason to participate in a however the destruction of records that would have helped settled. This outstanding question is troubling indeed. It leaves hunts story without any clear resolution. But what the episode does make clear? Is that a politics of suspicion and hatred has very real human consequences and certainly in this case. None of those consequences were good. Not even for bridges..

"On June thirtieth. Another warrant for buddies arrest on the same. Moral charges was issued. Despite the fact that buddy was now in Cuba for his episcopal coursework. The summons was adamant that he returned to Washington. His trial date was set for October. Nineteen fifty-three buddies lawyer. Under senator. Hunts watchful eye began to prepare the defense? He would argue. That buddy was an innocent victim of entrapment. I that meant proving that Costanzo had been trying to lure in buddy. This wouldn't be hard to do considering that it was a central part of Costanzo 's job however the second portion of entrapment takes into account the defendants behavior. But he's lawyer had to convince the judge that buddy hadn't been open to advance from Costanzo. No he wasn't publicly out about his sexuality. Buddies lawyer was inclined to believe his client would have engaged with Costanzo proposition and he was worried. The judge would think the same years later buddy himself admitted I wasn't framed. I guess technically it was entrapment but I was ready for the trap. Trial ended without much light at the end of the tunnel. Buddy was deemed guilty and given the choice to pay a one hundred dollar fine or serve thirty days in jail. He paid the fine. Senator Hunt faced the trial's conclusion with gritted teeth and seriously considered whether it was even worth running for reelection. The arrest and trial hadn't been widely publicized yet but he knew that was liable to at any moment after all he was no longer a young man he told the governor of Alaska about his hesitations. He was no longer of the age to reconcile gambling. Ten thousand dollars. Twelve thousand or maybe fifteen thousand dollars on the questionable possibility of being re elected as nineteen fifty four wound on however it appeared. Hunts worries about reelection were abating. According to mcdaniel. He'd even commissioned a poll measuring his support against four possible GOP CONTENDERS. The poll told him he would likely be reelected. Perhaps all his worrying about the political fallout of buddies arrest. Trial was for not but as the election approached the blackmail began. His opponents threatened to flood wyoming with leaflets about buddies conviction and the senators stiff-upper-lip didn't mean he wasn't affected by the idea of having his son publicly outed and used as a political chesapeake. Washington could have guessed as much everyone in the city lived in the same culture of fear and persecution still. The city was shocked when just two months after announcing his reelection campaign. Lester Hunt made an announcement. He was withdrawing from the race back home in Wyoming hunts constituents clamored for answers to. He'd been so well positioned to win and if hunt wasn't going to run for Senate. What was he going to do up next? Senator Hunt makes a shocking choice now back to the story after weathering his sons criminal trial and hinting that he'd seek reelection. Senator Lester Hunt Spring. Nineteen fifty four bombshell didn't make sense. He announced he wouldn't run. But William Harrison. The most formidable candidate running against him had already dropped out. He had excellent odds of winning Hans. Own Explanation for the announcement did little to satisfy the public. He made the vague claim that he had to end his campaign due to pressing health issues as the Washington. Rumor Mill. Started churning so did whispers that hunt had been making regular visits to the says the Naval Hospital recently for what no one quite knew as support poured in hunt assured his constituents and friends that he was okay. He just needed time to mend his private actions though contradicted his words. Little did those close to the senator. No he was preparing for something. According to biographer Rodger mcdaniel. He said about writing a series of letters one went to Dean crackle at the University of Wyoming Hunt asked that the university archive would receive his records as soon as his Senate term concluded. The next year more litters went out to former coworkers and mentors. He thanked his former aide. Old Dental colleagues for guiding him through his early years. Apparently he sent letters nearly until the day he died and that day would come all too soon on Saturday. June nineteenth nineteen fifty. Four hunt slipped out from his home. He told no one of his plans but simply got behind the wheel and drove to his Senate office alone. It wasn't odd for representatives to be working weekends at the Capitol. Various AIDS held weekend shifts to support anyone pulling odd hours when the senator arrived though his hands were full literally so full that a young security guard offered to lend him a hand. Hunt handed him a Winchester Bolt Action. Twenty two rifle. The guard didn't recall. The item is odd. He'd always thought of the senator as a strapping cowboy from Wyoming. So he didn't think twice. About what the gun had. In the senator's office hunt arrived at his door and bid. Farewell with that. He completed a few final tasks. He moved photographs of each of his children to the front of his desk and arranged for letters intended for his aid. Mike Mantos to give to his family. His timing was meticulous. He arrived at the office shortly before. Manitoba's likely knowing he'd be found by the loyal aide and quickly so the proper measures could be taken hunt felt. His wife and children had gone through enough stress with buddies trial. He didn't want them to have to experience. The heartbreaking moment of finding his body as planned Manitoba arrived to find hunt in his office chair. Just minutes after hunt pulled the trigger. He was dead from a gunshot wound to the head soon after detective. Frost was called in to help deal with the situation and so began the process. The florist band was called into move the body. The press was skirted arrangements were made to tell the senators family. Hunt's wife nefail remained largely silent in the days after hunt's death though she attributed her husband's suicide to health issues she never specified which a memorial service was arranged for the next week much of The Washington. Political sphere was invited. Many were grieving the Senator Journalists Drew Pearson especially he had known hunt was being blackmailed and that bridges and his cronies were pulling dishonest. Even illegal tricks had he written about it earlier. Perhaps he could have helped. Spare the senator some anguish. Perhaps he could have even prevented him from taking his own life. However in an effort to not further rattle the family after Buddies Trial Pearson claim that Senator Hunt had personally asked him to stay mum after Han suicide though Pearson couldn't stay quiet any longer. He knew a grave injustice had occurred at the hands of men still in Congress. Just a few days after hunt's death Pearson wrote with knives out saying hunt had been living under the fear of political blackmail in connection with his son Pearson gave every detail he had explaining. What many Washington insiders were afraid to share? How senators bridges and welker tried to make hunt resign how they then resorted to strong. Arming the DC police to reinstate prosecution against buddy he closed his column solemnly stating that he feared that hunt was not just a dedicated senator but a sensitive father who didn't want his son dragged through the mud at the expense of his reelection. Senator Bridges was furious. Perhaps in all his pomp and circumstance. He believed a low level journalist. Wouldn't go after him but Pearson's column in The Washington. Merry go round muckraking. As new snobs called it opened the gates for more criticism. The more reputable Washington Post soon chimed in. Thanks to journalist Marquee Child's he titled his Report Smears and Tears Plague the Senate he to condemn the duo stating the McCarthy welker faction of. The party had blood on its hands for its role in hunt suicide with all this press pointing directly at them. It was increasingly necessary for senators bridges and Welker to attend hunts June thirtieth memorial avoiding the event would only feed speculation that they held some responsibility for the suicide at the service. Lyndon B Johnson took to the podium and expressed his sadness saying I can think of few events which cast a greater pall of gloom over the Senate than the untimely and tragic death of our beloved colleague. Lester Hunt though. It's unclear who permitted the next two speakers to contribute eulogies both bridges and Welker were allotted time to speak after LBJ walkers closing words whereas insensitive as expected a last ditch effort to extricate himself from blame. He praised hunt briefly. Before adding I venture to say hunt could have been the senior senator from Wyoming as long as he lived or as long as he desired subtext. We weren't gunning for his seat. Despite their false show of mourning at hunts memorial bridges and Welker were both boiling with fury they wanted to crucify drew. Pearson for alleging that they had been blackmailing hunt. The vitriol even filtered up to Joe McCarthy himself according to mcdaniel Senator McCarthy had a frame sledgehammer in his office labeled.

"Washington. Dc The nineteen fifties. It's nearly impossible to hear these words and not immediately associate them with McCarthyism. Mccarthyism takes its name from. Joseph McCarthy the Wisconsin senator known to this day for perpetuating a red scare in the nineteen fifties he effectively convinced the US that communism was slipping into every crack of American life and coming for the country's democratic ideals but the red scare wasn't the only mania brewing at the time there was another scare similarly tied to communism but also linked to contemporary misconceptions about homosexuality. Which until the nineteen seventies was categorized by the American Psychiatric Association? As a psychological illness conservative fearmongers believed the. Lgbtq community was extra vulnerable to being duped by the United States. Communist enemies could after all be blackmailed for their sexuality. No matter that blackmail is the fault of the blackmailer and plenty of heterosexual government. Employees had skeletons in their closets. To LGBTQ was suddenly equated with communism and the paranoia had violent consequences. The lavender scare as it was dubbed lasted from the late nineteen forties into the nineteen sixties it led to thousands of investigations into the sexuality of Government Employees. Such inquiries aim to dismiss. Lgbtq civil servants from their jobs but the lavender scare didn't stop there according to the National Lgbtq Chamber of Commerce not only lgbt federal employees fired but many others were also simply fired for guilt of association. In knowing someone who was LGBT was grim time but even pervasive movements like the lavender scare. Don't simply emerge out of thin air. They have their leaders. The ones who turn fear into paranoid retributive action. In the case of the lavender scare that leader was new? Hampshire senator styles bridges. He was a formidable leader. Back in one thousand nine thirty four at age thirty seven he become the youngest governor in the United States at the time in one thousand nine hundred eighty six. He was elected to the New Hampshire Senate seat that he would hold for nearly a quarter of a century eventually his long congressional tenure saw him rise to the rank of president pro tempore a the second most important officer in charge of the Senate when the vice president is away by the early nineteen fifties. According to biographer Rodger mcdaniel. Bridges was considered the most important man in the United States Senate and one of the five or six most powerful men in the world. The weight he threw behind the lavender scare cause was tremendous but like most powerful men. Bridges didn't fight his battles alone. He had allies everywhere. Even the Eisenhower White House was complicit in one thousand. Nine hundred fifty. Three President Eisenhower signed an executive order which listed sexual perversion grounds. For firing current employees perversion. Here was a euphemism for anyone. Who wasn't heterosexual. The order encouraged more agencies to spring up and police the perceived threat the DC metro police even created a vice unit tasked with serving the city's social scene from businesses to parks a detective named Roy. Blick would become Washington's one man watchdog. These lavender scare policies contributed to the McCarthy Ist climate of nineteen fifties DC a climate of fear persecution and enemies. That seemed impossible to up with because they didn't exist but what business congressional fearmongers and undercover cops have with a humble dentist from Wyoming. Well that dentist was Lester. Hunt who in addition to being a dentist was a Democratic senator holding a highly coveted seat in nineteen fifty three. The Senate was split. Forty eight Democratic senators held the narrowest of majorities of their forty seven Republican colleagues. If one Democrat were to resign though the balance of power would flip out of the forty eight Democrats Lester. Hunt was particularly interesting to Republicans. His term was about to end in one thousand nine hundred ninety four and if hunt gave up his seat. Most people on the hill speculated that he'd be replaced by current Wyoming Governor CJ. Rogers who was you guessed it a Republican. But of course there was little reason for hunt to give up his seat. He had solid support in his home. State and by the political standards of the fifties. He was an honorable man with an admirable backstory. After growing up in Small Town Illinois Hunt paid his way through dental school by working the railroads when World War One broke out. He dutifully enlisted to serve and in nineteen twenty when the war wound down he and his new wife novell moved back to Wyoming and dedicated themselves to their community. Hunts nineteen thirty two decision to run for the State Legislature? Was Par for the course. It didn't matter that he had barely any experience in politics. It just mattered. That people trusted him Wyoming politics. Were still very much. The Wild West there wasn't the same insistence on political pedigree as back east and in the midst of the Great Depression a local democratic veteran was someone Wyoming could throw its weight behind. He understood the plight of the average family hunt was elected as a representative to the Wyoming state legislature in nineteen thirty three in nineteen forty eight. He ran for the United States. Senate and one Lester Hunt. The small town dentist had made it to Washington all with his unimpeachable reputation intact. Unfortunately he joined the town just as the paranoia of the red lavender scares was nearing its boiling point and in that age the Republicans and particularly paranoid leaders like styles. Bridges knew that enough digging. Would unearth cracks in any man's reputation as hunts freshman term wound down in nineteen fifty. Three bridges became increasingly determined to find that crack. It was worth a bit of effort considering that if he took hunt down he might just win his party. The American public lingered in perpetual anxiety wondering what the next menace would be Republican. Senator Joe McCarthy stepped in to tell the country that public enemy number one was communism and number two was the Lgbtq community for these fearmongers. Anyone that deviated from the narrow ideal of heterosexual. Conservatism should be subject to surveillance. It was a good climate for taking down civil servants with whispers of disgrace unfortunately for Wyoming. Senator Lester Hunt who in Nineteen fifty-three was nearing the end of his first term in Congress. Senator Styles Bridges was determined to take hunt seat for the GOP through whatever means necessary. His first approach was to pointedly attack. Lester hunts politics claiming he was weak on communism. According to biographer Rodger. Mcdaniel the New Hampshire senator openly criticized hunt for taking a position. He felt was too lenient on the employment of homosexuals and others who bridges thought were security risks in the federal government but verbal accusations would only do so much. Bridges needed something bigger in the summertime of nineteen fifty three. He'd get his ammunition bluster hunt son also named Lester so nicknamed Buddy was briefly visiting Washington D C A rigorous learner. Buddy had graduated from swarthmore college in June of nineteen forty nine. He was inspired. By the College's commitment to social justice. After graduation buddy was eager to take what he'd learned and apply it to a life in theology specifically he enrolled at the Episcopal Theological School in Massachusetts. He planned to continue his coursework and spend his summers teaching abroad in Havana. But before heading out for Cuba buddy swung by to visit his parents in Washington and for one reason or another late one June evening. The twenty four year old was walking through. Dc's Lafayette Park. It was no ordinary patch of grass. Lafayette Park had a reputation for hosting all kinds of activities protests dates and social gatherings including those of Washington's Gay community however the rise of the lavender scare had changed the atmosphere of DC's popular hangout spot by Nineteen fifty-three Lafayette Park was less a place of fun. Then somewhere where members of the LGBTQ community might be trapped by vicious gang members or cops and trap was precisely what waited for buddy hunt that summer. Night.

"Blackmails limited there. You're not gonna believe this story if you haven't already dived into this. It's it's it's ugly. You know, you've made it. Yeah. Well, you know, if you're the richest guy in the world, and you're willing to risk half of that. I'm an affair. You're probably willing to spend a few million more to make sure you have the investigators needed to find out what you need to find out if any did I would call it a Letterman, remember when Letterman members having sex with his interns shortly bad idea, and when he was getting blackmailed he went on TV that might and talked about the blackmail, you shut it down the extortion. Part of it is is all the questions whether it's politically motivated, they gotta get at. And it sounds like from the the blackmails a crime. But it's there it's alleged blackmail. You could hear there's an interpretation in there. But the, yeah, I'm amazed that he's been able to get it to wherever the leaks came from. And and see that it was he says was politically motivated people with associations with the private. I haven't mentioned trough crazy. You mentioned Trump. I haven't mentioned Trump right now since you're mentioned Trump. Yeah. Go ahead, Donald Trump and David pecker. And by the way, his name gets funnier every time. David pecker are pals and pals for a long time, David pecker agreed to a cooperation agreement with prosecutors and with a special counsel to make sure he stays out of jail and the national enquirers assets are protected you can't engage in any sort of close to criminal activity when you're in a cooperation agreement with the feds, this is what that looks like and it smells like Paul Manafort doing the same thing, it's ugly. It's twisted. It's complicated. But the richest guy in the world giving blackmail by the National Enquirer. I mean, come on. It's exciting about that story is at least he's pushing back on it. I can only assume that over time that the inquirer has done these kinds of things you just can't make it war. And at least the guy's got more power. He can push back, man. He shuts down the idea that those pictures are going to be printed. Because now the choir goes ahead and prints them. They just back up the fact that they were pulling that also kind of you know, if you know this or not, but the national enquirers of Sirte Webster. Are located on the Amazon web service AWS funny. "So I was more comfortable being myself all of myself, you know, with my political thoughts, whatever, and I felt comfortable expressing that the people vs before, you know, you don't really wanna you don't scare people away or they don't think you like everybody else when you really are. So I like I promise apple I'll give back to the kademi. So I mean at the time young people that look at the numbers, I think that's one thing that we struggle with. Right. So if you look at a place like Annapolis, right and say, okay, there's so many minorities say blackmails, right? But you take out the number of recruiter athletes. Right. How much does that cut down the block mills in attendance at an apples, right? So a lot of times higher level places like this. I mean almost half are recruited athletes. And so for me coming in with just as willpower and not being an athlete. I wasn't recruited there. You know, that was one of my first instincts with the racism piece because not will make mistakes during say plead summer, or you know, at the prep school. They'd be like, you're just here because you're playing football, you know, while ball, and I'd be like, actually, Sarah. I'm not a football player. Now, but people had those assumptions initially, and so that was one of the first instance hours will get frustrated with like, why do people always think I'll play football right actually wanna be here actually won't be as an officer. I mean, that's what I came. Or I don't know what they expect. What they expect ended. Another thing is when I was actually at Annapolis end, you know after police summer and whatnot because there are so few of us. What's the big place? We like to socialize. It's in the cafeteria. Right. When you're eating always be the comment of oh, what all the black midshipmen sit together. You know, we will do it at are you we have to sit out our individual tables with our squad would always find each other in the cafeteria were sit at a table, and it will always be such a big deal on piers always make comments on it. But again, you look around Annapolis. And isn't there's almost no black tables. Right. It's it's the so the racism, I think I experienced was more from people not having empathy and coach. Understanding to kinda take a the zoom out of the picture rights. You look at the cafeteria angsty tables full of everything but black people, and then the group of black who was at a table. Now, all of a sudden the big deal. Yeah. It's the stigma of oh, they're isolating themselves, or you know, they're not being sociable. When those kind of things really not understanding, we're just trying to find comfort any others culture. Because it's so limited. I'm and we need each other support. Yeah. I've never I've, you know, I've never even begun to think about that side of things. I appreciate you bringing that up because it's definitely something that would have never even occurred to me. I one of the things that we talk about frequently on this show is how violence can be a good thing. And I think that for a lot of the civilian listeners in the audience. They are confused by that initially for me, you know, the the martial arts thing has been a long standing tradition in my life starting early on with karate, and you know, now recently have been getting into jujitsu in Thai I know that you've dabbled in different forms of martial arts in. But that your your main love is boxing. I was wondering if you would be comfortable talking about what boxing represented for you at the academy specifically, and then kind of what it's done for the rest of your life. Right. So during please summer at at navy all the please have participate in sport. Yup. Pick a sport. And there was a lot..
