A highlight from Bank of America Military Affairs with Lindsey Streeter

"Army veteran Lindsey Streeter leads the Military Affairs Strategy at Bank of America. He joined the Bank of America family in 2016 upon retiring from the U .S. Army as a highly decorated command sergeant major with 31 years of military service. He's been a leading voice in Bank of America's commitment to recruit, develop, and retain military talent, and Lindsey was recently named 2023 Veteran of the Year by the Military Times. Coming up next on Veteran on the Move. Welcome to Veteran on the Move. If you're a veteran in transition, an entrepreneur wannabe, or someone still stuck in that J -O -B trying to escape, this podcast is dedicated to your success. And now, your host, Joe Crane. As a member of Not -for -Profit, Navy Federal puts members at the heart of every single thing they do. Find out more at navyfederal .org. Alright, we're talking with Army veteran retired command sergeant major Lindsey Streeter, who leads the Military Affairs Strategy at Bank of America. Also, the 2023 Veteran of the Year by Military Times. Wow, what an awesome award there and great title. So, Sergeant Major Lindsey, thanks for being here today. Before we get to talk about all the great things Bank of America is doing for hiring America's veterans, take us back, tell us what you did in the Army. How many years was it, 33, 34? Hey, Joe Crane, I'll tell you what, man. I appreciate the opportunity to be on the show here today. And yeah, it was just a little north of 31 years that I did. Started out as a logistician, was an Army parts guy. Spent a lot of time in aviation units, you know, chasing Black Hawk helicopters around, trying to keep them flying, and I did that for 10 years, and then I transitioned over into recruiting command where I absolutely found my niche there as an Army recruiter. Ran a couple of recruiting stations, found a lot of success running those stations, a lot of promotions that came along with that, and ascended into leadership in recruiting command, ran the Army recruiting school, ran two companies as a first sergeant, and I was tagged to go to the Sergeant Major's Academy. Came out of the academy and pinned on Command Sergeant Major and headed up to Nashville, Tennessee, to head the Nashville recruiting battalion there and part of the command team there. Did that for about three and a half years, and then the Army saw fit to bring me out into training and doctrine command to run a leadership academy to round out my career, so I served as the commandant of the NCO Academy down here at Fort Stewart, Georgia, where I retired and then smoothly transitioned over into Bank of America. Yeah, so Bank of America was your first job out of the Army? It was. It was. I had a soldier that had worked for me about nine years earlier, and he had been with the bank about a year and a half, and he called me one day. I was driving home trying to contemplate whether or not I was going to retire or take another position in the Army, a nominal position as a sergeant major, and I got a call asking me to send him a resume. I believe there's a little divine intervention at play there because I prayed a prayer for some guidance with regards to transitioning, and I got the phone call and I quickly crafted a resume and sent it in, and said he something that was profound to me. He began to talk about the company, but he knew me very well, and he said to me that you fit here at this company, and I don't believe there was any more profound of a statement that could have been said to me. I think when veterans are transitioning, they're oftentimes looking for an organization that they believe they'll go there and do good, but where do you fit? Well, within that organization, and my colleague believed that from what he knew about me and my traits of character, there'd be a perfect marriage with me coming to Bank of America, and I thank goodness that he gave me that call. Yeah, no kidding. I mean, talk about using your network. I mean, a guy I know used to work with him in the Army. He's there. He brought me in. I'm good. I mean, that's how you get a job right there, but let's face it. Most guys aren't that lucky. I mean, you know, especially nine years before you're eight, you've actually kept in touch with him, and it worked, but ultimately that's the golden goose right there. Yeah, that's the formula. I think if they know you and then they know the organization, it automatically triggers in their mind where to stop on the Rolodex when they begin to seek referrals to bring it to the company. So I was thankful that he thought of me, and he got it right. Absolutely. Now, over the years I've heard a number of things with Bank of America, and before we hit the record button, I was talking with you about, over and over we talk about transition and getting out and getting a job. A lot of us want to go into entrepreneurship, run our own business, but let's face it. Some of us, if you're the main breadwinner, you've got to go get a JOB in the meantime and work on something on the side. So transitioning and getting a job as you get out of the military is definitely something you still end up having to do even though you want to run your own show. And some folks think, oh, you're retiring. You're a member of the Paycheck of the Month Club. What stress do you have, man? You already got a check coming in, whatever. Sometimes it's harder to find a job when you're retired from the Army because you're older, you're stuck in your own ways, you've never done anything else with the Army. You're kind of boxed in, and companies are looking at you like, well, what can you do for me? You spent almost all of your adult life in the Army. It can be much more difficult to convince a company that you can still speak civilian and you're able to put on a suit and you're able to show up to work and blend in, and sometimes it is harder, you know? Yeah, Joe, you really touched on a few things that I found were a challenge, and we continue to, as we invite new talent into the company, to work on these veterans with those attributes of assimilation, as I call them, demonstrated assimilation. You know, less than 1 % of the country serves, and so we're scared when we go in, but we're absolutely horrified when it comes time to take the uniform off and to depart. And, you know, so you're entering a realm of the 99 % that did not serve, and so what you owe to them is not for them to bend to you, but for you to bend and mold and become one of them and to really demonstrate that. And I believe it begins with being humble during your interview, especially as a senior leader in transition. You know, a lot of times we want to boast about our leadership ability and leadership demonstrate capability because of our past and those things that are contained within our resume. And those companies, if you can lead, they're going to afford you an opportunity to lead, but what they want to know is can they trust you with their brand and reputation of this company? Can you get here and humble yourself enough and be vulnerable enough so that they can hang some skills on you and you can demonstrate business acumen and how to dress and how to really work in a collaborative environment that's demanded by corporate America? And so I thank goodness I had some coaching and some grooming to help me with those things, and I work for a company that spends a lot of time trying to get that right. And what we do is we've invested into the scaffolding that's required to ensure that our veterans smoothly transition. So we charged ourselves with not just joining a crowd of being veteran friendly, but we wanted to demonstrate that we're veteran ready, and we did that by, or we do that by being meticulous in our selection process up front. We want to give the veteran the best opportunity to succeed at the company, and we do that by matching up their skill sets with an opening in the company. So we want to get this right fit piece fixed from the beginning. And then we want to make sure that the living room is straight inside the house. And so we have a robust ERG in our military support and assistance group that helps us with onboarding of our veterans, and we pair them up with a more tenured and seasoned veteran, and they hold their hands for about the first 90 days that they're here just to get them through the fits and jerks of assimilation. And it's a soft space, right? It allows them to ask the stupid questions to match a pair of loafers with a belt, you know, to understand which color suit pattern that they need to wear. And so it's those sorts of things that they feel like they can feel safe and feel welcome while they're going through that transition. And what we're hopeful is that what we're seeing is that it closes the back door, and we know that because we survey them. We use employee satisfaction surveys, and we gauge the morale and the motivation of our veteran cohort that way. And so we're proud of that work that we put into those challenging times. And the other thing is that, you know, we have a problem with our resumes and bridging the gaps, bridging our skill sets. And so we know that, we understand that, and we try and take that into account when we're placing talent that those resumes may have gaps in them, that they may be missing pertinent information. And so we've invested in a veteran recruiter that helps us to look at those resumes in detail and tell the story that the veteran's resume may not be telling. Absolutely. Hold that thought. We're going to take a quick break. We'll be right back.

Good afternoon, I'm Nick I and Ellie, Mike chicas is our producer. The top stories we're following for you today, the Maryland attorney general's report on decades of child sex abuse and cover up in the Catholic arch diocese of Baltimore has now been released to the public. The redacted report on the four year investigation is more than 460 pages long. It dates back to the 1940s and says there are 156 current or former clergy members and other members of the archdiocese who were the subject of credible abuse allegations. It details the lengths the church hierarchy went to cover up the abuse. Attorney general Anthony Brown says the report in his words illustrates the depraved, systemic failure of the archdiocese to protect the most vulnerable. We have reporters going over the document right now. We'll have more details coming up on WTO P, stay with us. China is criticizing a meeting today between House speaker Kevin McCarthy and the president of Taiwan, accusing the U.S. of violating its one China policy, but the U.S. is pushing back on that, more from WTO's Mitchell Miller today on the hill, House speaker McCarthy, along with a bipartisan group of lawmakers will meet in California with Taiwanese president Tsai ing Wen. China accuses the U.S. of trying to encourage Taiwan's independence through the meeting, which because of its sensitivity is called a transit by U.S. officials. Secretary of State Antony Blinken today said China needs to tone down its language. Beijing should not use the transit as an excuse to take any actions to ratchet up tensions. Congress last week, unanimously approved a bill that revokes China's status as a developing nation, reflecting bipartisan concern about Beijing's growing economic impact. On capital hill, Mitchell Miller WTO. Virginia governor is planning to visit Taiwan, as well as Japan and South Korea this month. Republican Glenn youngkin is going to lead his first international trade mission and is going to be meeting with Taiwan's president. He says Taiwan, Japan and South Korea represent critical markets that will advance economic growth and prosperity in Virginia. Former president Donald Trump was back on the offensive when he got back to Mar-a-Lago last night just hours after he pleaded not guilty in New York to 34 felony counts connected to hush money payments during the 2016 campaign. The former president responded to the indictment by calling it ridiculous in the DA who brought it a criminal leaker. Donald Trump was just as harsh when he described the man who will preside over the case. I have a Trump hating judge with a Trump hating wife and family. Hours earlier in his courtroom, judge Juan Marshawn asked Trump to refrain from making comments that might incite violence, create unrest, or jeopardize the safety of individuals. Stephen portnoy, CBS News. Despite all that, mister Trump is polling well among Republicans after the indictment. Natalie Allison and national Politico reporter for Politico tells WTO it's keeping him relevant. Talking to Newt Gingrich yesterday for the story. He put it this way. He said, you know, this is trumpet is happiest, just might be indictment, despite all of the stress he has of this. This means that he is back in the spotlight. He has the attention on him. And that's what he cares about. That's really what is going to help him remain relevant in this campaign. The Trump campaign says it raised more than $4 million after the indictment was announced. It's a good day for us, a good day for Finland and a bad day for Vladimir Putin. Former U.S. ambassador to Poland, Daniel fried. So why is it such a bad day for Russia? It's a bad news day for Putin because he invaded Ukraine so he could extend Russia's domination over its former empire. And look what's happened. He hasn't conquered UK. He may never conquer it. In fact, he is unlikely to conquer it. Furthermore, fried says Putin is not much of the genius. He is driven Russian interests into the ground. All for the sake of his vanity. "Corn syrup to rattled and caught fire in Minnesota. I'm Shelley Adler. All ahead on America in the morning. Now 7 minutes after the hour, Donald Trump makes history as the first former president to be indicted for a crime, John stone has the story from Washington. Well, after nearly two weeks of speculation, a majority of the 23 person grand jury hearing evidence in the state's investigation into Donald Trump's alleged hush money payment to former adult star stormy Daniels found there was sufficient evidence to indict the former president. The decision is sending reverberations throughout the political world. Trump's former vice president, Mike Pence weighing in on CNN last night. Well, I think the unprecedented indictment. Of a former president of the United States on a campaign finance issue is an outrage. And it appears that for millions of Americans. To be nothing more than a political prosecution. That sentiment echoed by Republican senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina on Fox News. If you got a pile of crappy, chop it up 34 times, it's still a pile of crap. It's duplicitous charging. They're trying to smear the guy. They're trying to take cases that nobody else would take in resurrect them. This is literally legal voodoo. Trump released a 5 paragraph statement, calling the indictment political prosecution and election interference at its highest level. Excoriating defense attorney Alvin Bragg as a puppet of Democrats, quote doing Joe Biden's dirty work. Other top Republican leaders weighing in, House speaker Kevin McCarthy says Bragg, quote, irreparably damage the country and is attempting to interfere in the 2024 election. Florida governor Ron DeSantis calling Bragg's indictment that, quote, weaponization of the legal system. And he promised his state will not assist in any extradition request. And Nikki Haley, who has announced a run for The White House in 2024, criticized the indictment as being more about revenge than justice. Despite the critics, Bragg's case will go forward thanks in large part to the testimony of their star witness. Former Trump fixer Michael Cohen, who says he arranged the payment by Trump in 2016 just ahead of the election in order to keep Daniels quiet about their 2006 affair. Cohen tells MSNBC the indictment proves he is not a liar. Once again lies misinformation, disinformation malformation that they're throwing against me will ultimately continue to prove that everything that what I had provided was relevant to this investigation. Democrats are having their say to former House speaker Nancy Pelosi saying quote hopefully the former president will peacefully respect the system and Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer noting Trump is, quote, subject to the same laws as every American. And attorney for Trump says he will submit himself to arraignment in New York on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the city of New York is preparing for possible protests, a memo went out to all NYPD officers that everyone will be on duty. John stillness, Washington. It's ten after. "I was thinking back to the time I had gone over to Kingston Jamaica which is not a war zone and it's case to Jamaica but they have a high crime rate so it can be dangerous depending on where you are what time of day But we found ourselves in my prior line of work in a really bad situation and we were there filming with this ABC crew for a book Jenna Bush was writing And we found ourselves caught at the end of this alley and a bunch of people came out that weren't necessarily friendly And some weapons and we got it all on video because it was being filmed for the thing We went back and looked at it later we were like gosh that was really bad So we went back to the hotel I forget what we were saying We went back to the hotel and that night we were having a few adult sodas afterwards The shift was over of course And I remember talking to the cameraman and I said to him you know it's interesting You never put the camera down that whole time He had these guys in front of you with the machetes and all this and you know you never put the camera down He kept filming he didn't even look even frazzled by it I keep in mind we're supposed to be these You know big you know tough masculine Secret Service dudes right And you know I was a little hanked out but I was like okay this could get ugly fast and I was scanning and looking around at all And yet this guy didn't seem worried at all and I talked to him about it I'm like you know that's kind of kind of cool how you didn't get frazzled He's like man let me tell you something This is nothing I was in Mogadishu and you know he was there when that whole Black Hawk down thing went down not filming that particular episode but right around that time when Somalia broke bad And he's like that was nothing

Toby Harnden Shares a Story From on the Ground in Afghanistan

"You mentioned this story, the prison uprising, Mike spann, a former marine CIA paramilitary. For those who know nothing, give us the story of that incredible event and what that man did. Yeah. It is incredible. And so November 25th, 2001. Two CIA officers walk into this fort called calla jangi, which means literally like fort of war outside mazar I Sharif. Now, backing up a little bit mazarin Sharif had fallen to northern alliance forces, aided by our allies. Our allies aided by the CIA green berets and air force combat controllers and the awesome might have U.S. air power overhead on November 10th. Now, less than a month earlier, Mike spann had been one of 8 CIA officers who landed in the Darius souf valley, aboard two Black Hawk helicopters that had flown in from Kashi Khan about K two, a former Soviet air base that Uzbekistan government had given over to the Americans for this post 9 11 mission. So October 17th, 2001, they land at dropped into the unknown. First Americans behind America. So we are barely barely a month out since 9 11. Yeah. First Americans behind them enemy lines. Now there had been a CIA team called jawbreaker that had landed in the pantry of Ali on September 26th, but that was, you know, relatively speaking safe territory controlled by the northern alliance. But this was enemy territory, Taliban controlled territory. So 8 of them, four of them were paramilitaries, one of those was Mike span. So when paramilitary is somebody who's been seconded, usually from the military and is working in the CIA using their skills for the CIA. Yeah, usually they actually in the CIA sometimes their contractors or people who've been seconded and on some of the other teams that were actually serving members of the Delta force and seals. It was a guy called Alex Hernandez, who was the deputy chief, who was a sergeant major, gone full career in special forces and then joined the agency and two case officers, JRC, who was the chief who'd worked with the CIA out of Islamabad in the 1980s against the Soviets for the supply and stinger missiles to the mujahideen and David Tyson who you mentioned at the beginning who was with Mike span on November 25th 2001. So they're in unfriendly territory. This is the Ford of war, walk us through that event. So David was a case officer based in Tashkent and spoke Uzbek almost fluently. And so he's the linguist and the main linguist on the team, although JR, seger also he spoke diary, which was the sort of lingua franca in Afghanistan. Yeah, it was a Taliban Al-Qaeda operation to put pretend that for these 400 fighters had surrendered, but in fact they were made up remained armed. Rep. Brian Mast Shares His Thoughts on Afghanistan Crisis

"I will start with my number one security concern and it goes to this. The fact that that not just in the next couple days or weeks or months, but in the years to come We will see civilians in military combatants killed with US weaponry. And here's the number one question. I think that reporters should be asking them as an example. Hey, how many racy on built Manpads Man Portable aerial Defense technology systems. Did the Taliban get their hands on? Because you're about to evacuate thousands. By airlift, and you just gave them the weaponry as president. Biden said that they gave him the most advanced weaponry. Well, which weaponry and how many of them did you give them? To shoot down aircraft because this could end up looking like that scene in Black Hawk down where they're driving down that road, just taking fire from all directions. They're not answering these questions about what that inventory is. And and every single day that we get further down the road of what are we on Day, seven day eight of the Afghanistan hostage crisis here? Every day that we get further down the road. They learn more about their capabilities there more dug in. They have more command and control of the terrain around them. And let's put one other one other point on that, which just goes to say. How backward everything that the president said in his press conference was to say right. He said that he made it clear any interruption of our operations will have a swift response. Well. Isn't surrounding the airport and not letting anybody in or out and interruption of that. And I see no response. Um and you know, the fact of the matter is we all know from history that when, when optics The biggest concern of politicians. Then people get killed,

He still 10th all time in goalie winds in NHL history? Tonio is one of only 13 players in the history of the league to ever have at least 400 victories here. He was a trend center. He was one of the early pioneers of the butterfly style of goaltending, which is pretty. I mean, that's not pretty. I mean, is ubiquitous throughout the league today. I mean, the only way really goalies play. I guess. Some would argue that there is a It's a little bit of a hybrid. Maybe now more than seven. You're Savard, right Point hawks sown for the slot and a backhand shot by Does Otto on a pad save is made by Lincoln, and then he covers the puck to the left of the crease with the glove and holds it. Here's a great example of that. Columbus is now going to play a little bit more offensive minded here and for the Blackhawks just tying this game up. You gotta just continue the MO mentum here. Get some emotion in your game, but I manage the park well and No. What you're supposed to be doing here. Mom, this is going to come at you. They haven't been. I'll give credit to Columbus to make The best of an opportunity that was given to him but give credit to the Blackhawks. Theo Fight through some tough times at the beginning of this period. Discourse Um The big goals unless in a minute Mitchell and bowed in getting there first of their careers and then suitor picking up to his sixth of the season. So the young guys getting it done here, with some help from the older veteran players, but for the Blackhawks up goal heading into the third period, that's a good sign in an opportunity to increase that. With a sickle, fueling good power play on fresh ice to start period number three shots on goal for the period favorite Columbus, 18 to 10 for the two period totals. The Columbus Blue Jackets lead there as well 26 to 19, but the Black Hawks lead on the scoreboard 3 to 2. They gotta take things up there Lincoln and was their best player in that in that period, and they just got to make sure that they make some better decisions and in all areas that the ice is In the first period. They mismanaged it through the neutral zone that gave Columbus um opportunities and again. You gotta tip your hat to Columbus. This is why they're hard team to play against them. They're never easy out is The Tampa Bay Lightning and everybody was played them in the playoffs have found out that it's just an honest, hardworking team in the Blackhawks, able to find some goals to get past the goaltender, corporate sallow and getting great goaltending from Lincoln and the other end of the ice, so Some good things and some things that need to get cleaned up here in period three. "Welcome back to the United Center Chris sporting of you during the first intermission here, where the Blackhawks in Carolina find themselves tied at two couple late goals by the Blackhawks to even things up a sweet talk about The 1st 20 minutes of actually which one Marie. So So, of course, Troy Carolina comes in with a league leading 1.67 goals against average and second in the league, allowing just 23 shots per game. Here. The Black Hawks are with 15 shots on goal for 20 minutes and a 22 game because hockey, I guess right. That was a fast period time wife. We're gonna have a three hour postgame show. Now time will hang around and speed wise Jeremy College and talked about the threat coming from the Carolina Hurricanes in a lot of it is the pace of how they play the game and I really was impressed with the way the Blackhawks We're prepared to play this game, even though they were down one. Not that I was a visit. Great passing play by the stall line, and then they got down to nothing, but it just didn't seem like it even affected them. They just kept going. They kept pressing. They know that they could Find a way to generate some opportunities. They got 15 shots on goal. You mentioned that. So you know, all of a sudden you've got Carolina on their heels heading into the second period and the Blackhawks feeling pretty good about themselves coming back from that two goal deficit, so A lot more of the same is is probably what you're going to see here. I don't know. Carolina changes the way that they approached the game. I don't think they're going to shut her down at all. It's not the nothing game basically heading into the Last 40 minutes of regulation, So we'll see what happens. Get Alex to break it. "Yours truly Chris Boden joining you, we will be joined in a few minutes by Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Carlson, and he's coming off a win last night. He and 21 22, maybe even more other guys. Three won the final over the Columbus Blue Jackets and Next second straight Monday. We, You know, we have a game to talk about in which you know, we we both came away impressed it Last week's instance they were coming off of victory over Detroit. We want to see how they would handle that tasting success for the first time, and they came up with an even better effort against the Red Wings in that Sunday afternoon match up And this Monday. They fall the Columbus Friday 2 to 1 in the game. They probably easily could have win in some cases may have deserved to win. How would they react to that when they get frustrated or what? It's further our spur them on even more to and even better performance, But the latter is what we saw last night in the 31 victory. Yeah, Listen, I love the I love the adaptability of this group. And I know we're going to talk about it later a little bit, and we'll get into it with coach too. But when you think about the situation that these guys have been in this year, it's really impressive where they're at. I mean, Like I've said a million times the shortened training camp the weird summer right into a, you know, a season of some some uncertainty. And then on top of all of that, you've got a virtually half of the line of brand new and different guys in different looks and then a taxi squad and Ah, complete changeover in your goaltending situation from last year, So the fact that these guys have been able to do what they've done and to be where they're at right now, I think is very impressive. Yeah, they're a little bit below 500 at the moment, but keep in mind. I've got nine points there. Two points off the top of that off the top of that division. And on top of that they have nine points, which is the same as the Tampa Bay Lightning. You're Stanley Cup champion from last year, so everything if these guys are doing is the right thing, but take take numbers and stats aside and get rid of that. I just like the way that this this team has complained playing, and I like the way that this team is competing on a night in night out base. Yeah, there's there's just so many wild cards in the equation here this year that that everyone just kind of has to keep an open mind roll with the punches. Is, and I think that's very much with this Black Hawks team has done since opening up in the All those first four games in Florida, where a little bit bumpy, but it's about growing and taking incremental steps game by game and again. It's not always gonna be linear and smooth and the arrow pointing upward. There's going to be setbacks here and there just by the makeup of this club, but You like the direction that they have been taking in the consistency. They are gradually beginning to show and coming up this week, you know, I mean to other, you know big dogs who have been impressive here from a postseason standpoint lately. Carolina coming to the United Center for Games Tuesday and Thursday nights off to Dallas to take on The Stanley Cup runner up for the first time this season, coming up on Sunday and then the following Tuesday, So we're gonna take our first break here. When we come back. We will hear from Black Hawk, said coach Jeremy Collinson. He'll join us. Next on Black Hawks live. Presented by Chevy Dr Chicago dot com. Drive what cane and save Dr Enjoy. "Just are relentless. It's what John Tortorella wants is the head coach. That's what Jeremy Collinson wants as a head coach with his team there. There's nothing fancy about it. You get pucks out. You get pucks in you crash the front of the net. You look about how they scored that goal, the Columbus Blue Jackets did. It's a drive to the net with men following up there, and, if the rebound by Boone Jenner Blackhawks getting on the scoreboard first and Maced well executed three on to where the Black Cocks and Patrick Kane decision after Kirsch picking up his third goal of the season. So Blackhawks doing a nice job I'd still like to see More shots and more traffic coming through to the Columbus end of the ice. I think that that's really what Columbus did to generate some of their chances and to get some scramble play inside the Their offensive zone by just throwing pucks towards the front of the Net. And the Blackhawks a little bit more pressured what they needed to do in their own end of the ice to finish that first period, but it's all in period. Gives me didn't have my mic on in the Friday night game. The first period shots were very low. Columbus set a one Nothing lead and then second period. The Blackhawks opened it up. They got 19 shots on goal against the jackets in that second period, so let's hope that the trend might continue here. Well, you hope so in the Black Hawks did a lot of things right? You've got a lot of pressure on you. Once you're in your own end of the ice, because any time that parks go in the Columbus doesn't let the goaltender play it very often. There's very smart, very disciplined. How they put pucks into the offensive zone, so the defense got to get back there. And that's where he talked about his key to the game. Kleenex. It's getting possession of the puck and getting that exit out of the zone rate away that alleviates the strength of the Columbus team by getting in on the fore check. If you could get back there, make one pass. You're going to catch those guys in in in on the fore check coming in on the four check, so you can have a good counter attack. Think the Blackhawks in that area have to clean it up and then at the other end of the ice when you get 19 shots, it's because you have traffic in front of the net. You don't get 19 clean. One look shots. It's the 2nd and 3rd opportunities that start to rack it up and pile up the numbers. All right, 11 after one period here at the United Center, Chris Bonus standing by and Blackhawks Central, with the full intermission report for you good folks. And then second period. "The puck ass. The period comes to an end. So the Blackhawks will take a one to nothing lead into the dressing rooms after 20 minutes, shots on goal favoring the Blackhawks, 12 to 10 and so things improving for the Hawks. They're kind of been on that trajectory of improving with every game. They haven't had a sequence where they've really taken a lead into the dressing rooms at the end of a period here they do, and they're in control of this hockey game that has not happened this season, and I thought Lincoln and was excellent at the beginning of this game. Red Wings had some real good opportunities. Blackhawks looked like it took him about three or four minutes. To get themselves into this game, but Lincoln and was ready right off the hop meets a big saves. Their kept the Red Wings off the board. And then Patrick Kane gets the Citgo fueling good power play to put the black cocks up. It's not going 12 to 10 in favor of the Blackhawks, I thought is that period moved on. The black Hawks got a lot more comfortable with their with their game. Red Wings very aggressive. They've got some good young players sprinkled in with some veteran players. So I think it's a better Mitch mix for Detroit than what we've seen The last couple seasons is a trader kind of further what's going along and they're building process, But I like the response from the Black Hawks. They didn't make many mistakes after the first couple shifts. Credit Red Wings for being aggressive and turning, causing the Blackhawks to turn the park over. But some really good plays by the Black Hawks enter and at the end of the period there, Great play by Ian Mitchell. Read the play, jump into the play and just throw it across the crease, and I'm not sure who it was. It just missed an opportunity to tap it in there, and then he skated hard around to the other side of the ice, picked up the puck and made a nice little play there. So you know, you see a guy like he had Mitchell playing in his fourth NHL 50 NHL game on by having that type of confidence. It was just really good first one here by the way. We're not intimidated by the crowd at all. Okay, It's us if he didn't even know that they were there. Oh, but I would say, I would say a good level of play good pace by the Blackhawks and Jeremy Collins and talked about The and he and I, anyway, when we were talking, I asked him about what the team could do to keep the the chances off of the rush down because it seems like there's been a lot of those so far this year, and it looks like they've cleaned up their end a little bit here. Chances off the rush rush are Easily defended if you play better in the offensive zone with a better positioning a third guy, Hi. You don't have the numbers coming back against you. So if defenseman any time in the neutral zone that they see numbers and odd numbers in favor of the opposition team coming through the neutral zone The tendency is and they have to do it. They have to back in. So that gives entry zone on easy opportunity to come in and set things up for attack on the on the rush on now, once you get into your own zone, you're trying to set it, settle it down a little bit and get some structure. If you have support in through the neutral zone, and you know that somebody's got the winger on the fireside there that enables the defenseman to stand up in the neutral zone or at the blue line and try and make a play trained force something in that area, But if you don't have your own numbers coming back That's where you run into some problems there. So that kind of starts in the offensive zone If you're all in deep in your caught, that's where the problems start to arrive. So it all kind of factors into the overall play of just being smarter and managing your position on the ice a little bit better, And that's one thing that Jeremy calls and always distressing. All right. After one period, the Hawks lead the Red Wings one to nothing. Chris Boden is standing by and Blackhawks Central waiting breathlessly to give you good folks. A full intermission report. Please. Not breathless He's doing okay. And then second period action will follow. The good thing about this setup is what's that? Because we we've got a great booth here at the United Center. We're very fortunate to be in this position. We've had a plexiglass panel in between you and me. The good thing is this. Chris Bolton is out of the booth now. Disease. You can hear you. You know I gotta e. No. Yeah, He should be able to hear me. He's gonna throw some stuff at me. No, but he's outside of the booth. This is awesome. I'm gonna recommend that once this is all done and said that he stays there. Okay, both For the record. It wasn't me that said that Okay for you to try. Chris will be along with a full intermission reports. Second period. Action will follow its going the Hawks way so far, they lead the Red Wings. One Nothing. This is Black Hawk sake of 7 20. Good finish to a tough season last year for the Hawks and These two teams are going to meet eight times and it's a different Red Wings team was my point to all this. There are hardworking team. "Trip these past 10 months or so for everybody, even professional hockey players, But the group I've got to enjoy it Most was the team. The Blackhawks opened this second straight truncated season against a couple of nights ago. The Champ, a Lightning put up a three spot over the final half of the opening period. And the defending Stanley Cup champs were able to maintain control most of the rest of the way in a 5 to 1 victory in the Hawks. Look to put what was a salad opening 10 minutes the other night and carry that over to 60 tonight. In the first of many rematches in this very uniquely scheduled season. Good evening, everyone and welcome to the Fanduel Sports Book Chicago Blackhawks pregame show leading up to tonight's contest between the Black Hawks and the Lightning in Tampa Bay. I'm Chris Boden, John Weidman, Troy Murray, Standing by to bring you the call coming up at the top of the hour here in our WGN studios and and for a black Hawks team that continues to Transformed the makeup of its line of both by choice and by unexpected circumstance facing the reigning champions may not have been their first choice out of the gate after on nine day getting to know you training camp, it was the hand they were dealt, and like the rest of the planet under much more significant circumstances, I guess all you can do is deal with it in the cream of the NHL's crap can run out virtually the same group. They celebrated a cup with And it be a handful for any opponent for Connor, Murphy and the Blackhawks in the season under an emphasis of growth. It was a starting point to build on that to grow. I think every game's gonna be gay, but we have to stop right direction and obviously not starting. They want to, and you have good firepower that will expose your weaknesses and your whole so We should feel those They made a couple of then I suppose to start the game. But as went on, you kind of meal too easy for them and didn't take care of the clock and winding up of those battles. And as we welcome in Troy Marie once again for my WGN studios, there was a lot to learn out of the base. That was kind of set a couple of nights ago and now It'll be the theme all season. It's about response and how much better you can be from the previous game from the previous period from the previous shift and what kind of help since the scheduling circumstances of the season. Is that you know, Jeremy, and a lot of every other team virtually gets to make adjustments against the same opponent in the second of these back to backs and kind of get a better sense of evaluation. And that'll kind of had an extra layer of evaluation here this season. A lot of people were in between these games were talking about, you know, Are you excited to get another chance at Tampa? That's what's gonna happen this year. If you don't play well, you make the adjustments. You come back and you're going to play the second game. Sometimes you're going to be playing three in a row throughout the league, so you do make adjustments. I don't think the Blackhawks were happy. The way that they played 60 minutes. The 1st 10 minutes in that game were good. Can they look at some of those things and say this is what we did that made us successful and we were in the game. Here's the things that we need to do better toe to defend and to make sure that we don't make the mistakes that we did again. And then you look at what Tampa does. I don't think they turn around and change anything. They You know, they scored five goals and they was a dominating performance in my mind as far as you know, you look at and I heard some of the comments from some of the players in the Blackhawks. Well, you know, we weren't that bad. Well, you didn't really test Tap it either. You know, they somehow is quickly three. Nothing in the first period and they kind of coasted all the way through. They didn't have to get to that next level. You didn't push them to that next level, so you don't want to fall behind against a good team like this. You want to test him early and make sure that you have that consistency. They need to do a lot better. But yes, it Zen my mind. It's nice to get right back and play the same important that you did get a little bit familiar with their tendencies and then make some adjustments and move on and learned about your own team is well out. Now. Much was made after word of the Hawks Calder Trophy finalist Dominic Kubelik, having among the lowest ice time totals in the Forward group. The other night was about 11.5 minutes or so. He is one of these foundation blocks on which this team hopes to include in rebuilding for the future and one of the guys to lean out after a 30 goal rookie campaign and it wasn't just a quiet night for him. There were others, but he wasn't pointing any fingers in the other direction way should. We didn't do anything before our team, so that's think what we need to work on it, So we had some good stuff there, but overall It wasn't the game how we wanted, so we just need to be ready hopefully is gonna be better. And he was on a line Troy with P, a suitor who was making his NHL debut and out Brandon Perry, who has been up and down throughout his NHL career between the big League in the minors, and I'm not sure if Jeremy is is going to make any adjustments heading into this game Number two, But from January on, Dominic was In total lockstep with Jonathan tables and Brandon Side, helping him, you know, finished third and.
