"So that's how we that's how we got around with it. And the Greek would pick winners. And we had we had great fun with it somewhere, somewhere in my garage. I've still got one of those old check boards, check boards around with the Greek. Oh, I love it. You should take a picture of that and put it on Twitter. I know you have the Twitter account there. Take a picture of that and put it on Twitter for sure. Here's Jeff Van Gundy from July of 2020. The highlight of quarantine in the pandemic for sports fans was the last dance on ESPN. Did you watch it? Not a second. You know, it's funny because I had a feeling that was going to be your answer, because obviously you live through it. And, you know, those those, you know, listen, this ends up becoming like this whole big thing. But the NBA back then was a totally different animal and for me, a much more enjoyable animal. But it's they announced the Emmy nominations today and the last dance got three Emmy nominations. So I saw that and wanted to bring that up to you. I heard it was very well done. Yeah. And like you said, I lived it. I knew the results of those games and I knew about his greatness. So, yeah, like to me, that was nothing of a surprise. But I do think. I'm happy that it was made because younger fans who really didn't get to see him play, obviously live, and who probably wouldn't take the time to go back and watch full games could see in short snippets just how great he was. And. You know, like when you see highlights of this guy, when you think about what he was able to do and the efficiency he was able to play with, when the rules back then were more slanted or tilted towards the defense than the offense. And today it's just the opposite. The rules of the game are more slanted towards the offense than the defense. And when you think about not having as much room because the three pointer wasn't shot with the same amount of the sheer numbers, but also you didn't have all these shooters on the floor for space. And then the level of contact that he had he had to play through and playing 82 games a night for young people to see. And for older people to see like myself, even though I didn't watch it, to be reminded of his greatness, I think is is terrific because he was in my time, in my era, just the difference maker. You know, you could play, you know, a great game and you're coming down the end. And time and again, he would be the difference in these close games. And I have so much respect for him as a player and as a competitor. Yeah. One of the best things for me, and I'm sure that people who are like 25 and under who who proclaim to be diehard NBA fans are shocked at. I mean, when they showed the old clips of him playing the Pistons and the Knicks, I mean, those teams just I mean, they beat the living shit out of him on the court. You know, that's how the game was played. I mean, it just was. And it's a completely different time now. That was fun to go back and watch those clips. Jimmy, if you did that today to like, oh, yeah, F. Curry, you might be arrested in Golden State and ushered out. I mean, the amount of like the physical contact and the one that I just remember and it wasn't against Jordan. But it was John Starks basically tried to be head Scottie Pippen. I mean, today would be ejection suspension for 10 games. I think it was just called a common foul. You know, it's just like, yeah, get up, make your free throws. And that level of contact day after day, year after year that Jordan played 82 games and huge minutes goes directly to his toughness, mental and physical toughness, his level of conditioning and his competitive spirit. And, you know, we there were a number like I have that same amazement level when you talk about Karl Malone and John Stockton, how few games they missed. Just amazing. Yeah. And Patrick for the next Patrick Ewing. I mean, that was I've always said I feel like he's the most underappreciated New York athlete of my lifetime because Patrick Ewing gave 100 percent every single night of every game he played in his career. And, you know, in the NBA, that's not always the case. Well, I would say this. It wasn't just the games. It was practice as well. When your best player is as committed as Patrick was to winning. And we had an incredibly committed group. We fell short. But those players led by Patrick all always in my heart consider them champions because they gave every single thing they had to trying to win a championship. Unfortunately, as Pat Riley often would say, some teams are just born at the wrong time. And we were born in that Jordan era and we were great. And, you know, we just didn't have a guy who could go get a shot off the dribble. You know, Alan Houston came later in Patrick's career and he was that first guy that we had that could go get his own own shot. So, yeah, I will always admire those Nick teams because literally. No team invested more to trying to do the right things that lead to winning a championship in those teams. It was an honor every day in my 13 years in New York to deal with those players and with those coaches, because the commitment level was off the chart. Yeah. And I feel like there's a little bit more of an appreciation as time has gone on. So let me I just want to get you to say it. So why did you not watch the last dance one second of it? Were you tempted? Did you what was your mindset about that? Well, it wasn't anything, you know, I mean, I love Madam Secretary. So if I was going to choose, I'm going to watch Madam Secretary. But I think. Again, living through that. I mean, there were some great moments against the Bulls and there was some, you know, incredibly disappointing moments. I choose not to watch, you know, Game five. B.J. Armstrong's three, Charles Smith getting fouled. You know, I choose not to watch that stuff, you know, I love watching old Nick games at times. And but as far as that, I knew what a great player Jordan was. I knew how great a team they had. Phil Jackson, a brilliant coach. So I didn't feel that, you know, there was no desire to watch. But. I heard it was great, and so many people, I think, benefited from seeing Jordan's greatness, even if it was in short snippets, but to really understand what a great player and what a phenomena the Chicago Bulls were back then. But you didn't want to watch it all. I had no desire. When I say negative desire, that's where it was. Gotcha. You said Phil Jackson was a great coach. I've said this to you, I think, before when you on the last time, but I will say it again. You calling him big chief triangle is one of my favorite moments in Nick's history. The this is why I asked about the last answer. I want to tie it into LeBron. I love the even though even though I was a diehard Nick fan back in those days and it was so painful to relive it. I love the last dance from immediate perspective. It was very well done. And, you know, like the old clips and all that stuff. The what I hated about the last dance, that there was one thing I hated about it is it then became used in the Jordan LeBron argument, like when it would air every Sunday night, you'd have people saying, oh, LeBron could have never done this or LeBron hasn't done this. And I hate I hate the Jordan LeBron argument. And I and the last dance was then used as a way to sort of knock down LeBron, which I find preposterous. I wanted to get your opinion on that. Not to bore you with my sayings, but comparison is the thief of joy. And whenever you go through these sophomoric, like comparative arguments, who's better? When you're talking about the all time great, I'll give you first choice and I'll be happy with the second choice. And anybody trying to not what LeBron James has done is it's it's just foolish. It's utter foolishness. He not only is he the great player that we see and he's going to he could actually end up being the all time leading scorer in NBA history and it not be his best quality as a player, which is remarkable in that his passing is by far his greatest skill. But I just find like how he's lived his life. Like, why would we be trying to take away from a man who not only has accomplished so much on the floor, but he's lived this life of in many ways, just he's such a giver of his resources to help others. And I think we should be applauding that. So I don't like all these comparisons because they're both just in their own era. They're both the dominant player of their time.

"Yesterday he tweeted out during the case the judge asked biden's lawyers if the first amendment covered american's right to say that biden is responsible gas prices and inflation okay folks yeah but that's that's open and shut the answer here is yes the biden team's answer it depends it depends you're gonna need depends like underwear after this thing you're like wait what i thought we had the constitutional right to say biden's responsible for high gas i said no not according to biden administration it depends it's like donnie brosco in a movie what are you gonna do you know that's their answer to me they said this in court there is question zero you have a first amendment right to say biden's responsible for high gas prices and the biden answer huh maybe oh it gets better attorney general andrew bailey's speed the judge also pointed out in the case that it seemed to be only conservatives who are targeted for their speech then asked the feds if they could provide one example of a liberal the feds provided only one example of a liberal being censored and that person's a opponent of joe biden this is awesome unbelievable can you imagine the moose nuts on these people they walk in court and they just admit the first amendment means absolutely nothing to them it's as if they're telling the judge you could go pound san you mean nothing to me he issued his ruling and now let's see him enforce it some of you get the historical reference here this is basically what they're doing then they were asking this speed goes on for a while it's the stuff coming out of this case is really eye opening they asked at one point the the judge asks to the biden team lawyers hey is it okay for people to say on the internet they think 2020 the election is stolen again the answer is 100 yes that is your political opinion whether it's accurate or not it doesn't matter it's your opinion legally it is irrelevant legally you can say whatever you want about the election you can't go out and make an election donation in violation of the law you can't go out and you know issue misleading you know semi -official paperwork meant to this you know people you can't keep people from voting you can absolutely say in a free united states it used to be free you think the election was stolen the biden answer the it depends mask is off man the mask is off combine that with what i discussed in the beginning of the show the fbi engaged in a massive cover -up operation for uh the biden team and really covering up for mobile for obama if you missed any of this check out my podcast today please rumble .com slash bongino check it out that's the video version of the podcast please it is worth your time if you missed any the beginning of the show today you can also on listen apple and spotify it's worth your time all right a couple more things i want to get to folks with the debt ceiling one of the things that bothered me you may say oh what are we talking about that it's over no hey forget about the debt ceiling for a reason this segment it's about the debt it's ceiling but not it's about something that's irked me about liberalism for a long time the thing about that drives me bananas is it's that they know they're saying things that are stupid one of the advantages of working in obama's white house and i'm running for office myself is you're around these people eight hours a day sometimes six days a week you're around these people all all the time folks you're on the road with them you're in staff countdown meetings with them you're having a few drinks after work these with people you're around them all the time nobody ends liberalism in the obama white house in the political movement as well as i because i de facto work there now on the law enforcement side not the political side but i was there i saw it's why ronnie jackson understands him so well too ronnie jackson congressman from texas he literally worked there you hear these people talk and the thing about liberalism especially obama was amazing at this and i don't mean that in a good way when you got obama alone in a car you're gonna laugh obama sounded like a a damn conservative no in the car and then you get out of the car and say the exact opposite i remember being backstage one time i think we were in chicago and kanye west had up just on gotten stage up and stolen the microphone from taylor swift at the music awards remember that and kanye was like i don't think you deserve whatever it was remember when that went down i was with obama that day and bj armstrong from the bulls or something like that i i may be wrong but he was like man that guy's a yes he's just like he would say these and then you get him in front of a camera and he's like vladimir this is what bothers me the most about these people is they not only say stupid stuff they it not because they're dumb but because they know liberals are dumb they know that no no no say no they do i'm not saying republicans don't do the same thing swampy republicans to republican voters and try to treat them like idiots the thing is like the tea party movie uh the tea party movement excuse me brood pun intended swampy from republicans trying to tell us we were dumb and us being like no no you guys

"So Ryan, you mentioned earlier how it was absolute mayhem in Chicago stadium after Don Calhoun hits his three quarter court shot. The crowd erupted, the bulls team erupted and Michael Jordan himself slept on the backside and said, good shot kid. What was the rest of that night like for dong? After he made the shot, he was asked to stick around and do interview after interview. This guy got interviewed more that night than any of the players. I wasn't thinking $1 million, not at all. I knew it was going in, but I still couldn't believe it. I tell you, it was just like life to me, just spontaneous. That's unbelievable. He was just going from camera set up to camera set up, and it was right outside the bulls locker room. And as he's doing these, bulls players keep popping in and out and they love this shot so much. I can't even express how happy they were. They just kept wandering over and saying, they wanted a piece of Don Calhoun themselves. And so they would say congratulations. And he had the basketball because the ref, one of the refs had come over and slapped him on the back and giving him the basketball that he had shot. So he was holding this and doing these interviews. And all the players kept coming over and hugging him handshakes, signing the basketball. So Calhoun, he got signatures from Horace Grant, Scottie Pippen, John paxson, BJ Armstrong, even a couple of the heat players from that night. And as he got ready to do it, one of his last live hits, he saw Jordan and a bulls worker come out and they were standing nearby and he made eye contact with MJ and MJ smiled at him and was he was clearly there waiting to talk to Don. I'm on the floor with MVC all the page in that news networks man got me through I'm doing interviews interviewing Jordan comes out of locker room. I'm telling you man, I was supposed to go over there and talk to Jordan to do a quick interview. And this lady was like, hey, Michael's over here. We're doing come on. And I was like, Don wanted to pull the head set off and just run from this 50th TV interview that he was about to do. But of course, he had a producer, he said this producer in my ear just kept saying, okay, we're live in 13 seconds, 12 seconds. Wait, wait, wait, okay, wait, it's gonna be 30 seconds. So he just kept getting delayed and MJ standing there and standing there and standing there and eventually he went live on camera and he did the best interview that he possibly could because his heart's broken as he saw Jordan whisper something to the bull's staffer and Jordan left. He'd gotten tired of waiting. And I probably seen him about 30 seconds about twice. He was gone, man. And I blew that opportunity because that reporter would tell me, okay, we can already go on live right now right now, right now I'm here. Sudan does this last deflating interview and he was just like realizing, oh, I'm not gonna meet, I'm not gonna beat Michael Jordan after all, and it crushed him. But he just had this feeling like maybe. Just maybe I will run into Michael Jordan somewhere down the road and then I'll get this autograph and I'll say hello to him. Yeah, like I live in Chicago, it's a city of neighbors. You run into people all the time, but I have a hard time imagining he's just gonna magically run into Michael Jordan. So how does he try to manifest this for himself? Well, for the next few months, he did not run into Michael Jordan at a gas station or anything. So it was going to take some planning and he'd heard from a friend Michael Jordan had kids that played basketball in the area in high school. And so he thought, what if I go to one of those games, you know? And so he found out about one of his son's games and he went to the game and he showed up with the basketball and he had two Sports Illustrated magazines which had covered the shot that Don had made and so he tried to walk up to Jordan and Jordan was in his own section with security kind of blocked off from everybody. Well, trying to watch the game. And security jumped right up and said, no, no, no, no, you're not coming up here. His security guy was like, well, Michael doesn't do anything when he's with his kids. And Calhoun said, just tell him I'm out here and I'll come up afterwards or stop, boy. Give him the ball. He's like, no, he doesn't do it. Michael has a firm policy, 100% no autographs at kids events. He just doesn't do that. And Don tried to explain, hey, I'm Don Calhoun. I'm the guy who made the $1 million shot in the security guys. No, sorry, no autographs. But as the game got near the end, a very unlikely thing happened in the stands. The same security guard came to Don and said, listen, Michael's going to walk out of here after the game. He's going to walk to his car. If you want to walk with him, you can. And Don got varied excited. This was going to be the culmination of that night at the bulls game. He got his ball, he got the sharpie ready, the magazine's ready, and sure enough, as the Jordan crew left the high school, they grabbed him, they swept him up and he did this short walk with Michael Jordan. And the first thing Jordan said to him was, did you get your money? And Calhoun said yes. First thing he said, you get your money. I go, yeah, I got it. They say, yeah, I know because we made them give it to you. We were upset. And then Jordan said something that really shocked him. Jordan said, we made them give it to you. We were upset that they were trying to not pay you. Wait, so MJ tells him we made them pay you. Like, what does that mean? What does DOM think of that? He was stunned. He'd heard rumors that part of the reason he ended up getting the money, the part of the reason why they had that press conference that we're going to take care of this was because the players themselves had loved a moment and hated that the headlines were swirling and maybe wasn't going to get paid. They were very agitated that this student might not get his money. And so this moment was Michael was sort of confirmation for him that Michael Jordan himself had helped make him a millionaire. I wanted further confirmation. I reached out to Jordan. I reached out to the bulls and everybody declined on giving me official comment and confirmation on this. So we're going with Don here, but I believe him. So Don gets to be MJ, and they're walking to his car, does Jordan sign the ball for Don in that moment?

Thank you. Very kindly. Yeah. This is rich in Yorkville. What's up, Ridge? Hey, I just wanted to call like I had a quick story to tell. You know, I'm 68 when I lived in Brighton Park. We used to take the 35th Street bus. We get into the ballpark with a a coupon off a ball park, Franks and 50 cents and you could sit anywhere you want to just about there was never anybody in the old ballpark back then. You know, so we sweet sneak up in the upper deck and sit with Harry. I think there was even before Jimmy was even with him, you know, and oh, God, you know the net and catching a foul tips and everybody's singing. But I'll tell you one thing, disco demolition night that was playing Park ball back then. And broke my ankle and we're supposed to go to the game that night. I watched it on TV, and they got the first game because it was a 20 night And then they shut it down. Because the park just one up in flames. It was crazy. Your the old park was great. You know, I miss the old park the new parks. Okay, but it It just doesn't have that feel closeness in all the new park. They've done a lot of work on to make it better when it first opened. I don't think anybody was a fan of that park and then, sure enough, you know, Camden opens a couple years later. It was like, Oh, that's what the new parks are supposed to look, I'm supposed to look like the old ones. You know, the old Park was very cool. It was unique. It was cool. And yet disco demolition is an Alzheimer's 45 the center field, right? No part. I think that's right jerk the shower where it belonged in center shower where people actually utilized it huge, still exploding scoreboard on the basis. Remember what the backstop used to look like for batting practice? Was on wheels and they put Yeah. Center field. Yeah, Somebody was stealing that people were climbing defenses. They got huge breaks. Toronto is the luckiest team ever. Oh canada how lucky you are they face. The warriors klay thompson gets hurt k. D. gets hurt staff not one hundred percent they completely fall apart. They also got the luckiest balance in the history of the nba in that game. Seven against the sixers. Beat that as it may. The warriors fell apart in the finals. Warriors were heavily favored would have beaten them and they lost last year. We have to be fair here. Lakers got a huge break old. The braun brittle ad got a four month. Pandemic hiatus only time in eighties career like he went along. Stretch a plan games. I mean increasingly eighty. Doesn't you know he gets banged up. Lebron ad played with an energy. Lebron played with an energy that he has not played with previously in years. And after that lebron looked so fresh and so ready to go. And you just gotta come to terms with it. I'll give you an example of a team that got a lot of breaks. Nobody wants to admit this. But the tampa bay buccaneers and brady so you go into a season and you know schedules kind of tough early. Got the saints early in the packers early and some tough games but the bucks late schedule i think it was atlanta twice detroit and so these teams were out of it. They were banged up. And they literally took huge first-half leads they could arrest starters. They gained great confidence. They got their bye week later. In the year so tampa gets a very easy light schedule and then they face washington. Oh they're quarterback's hurt. They face a backup quarterback and then they face the saints again which is a huge break because the saints had hammered him twice. It's really hard to tell players. Yeah i know we hammered them twice. We're gonna play them a third time and then they get green bay missing their pro bowl left tackle. The coach matt fluor. Young coach makes an inexplicable coaching move late in the game. To take the ball out of aaron rodgers hands and give it back to. Tom brady then. They get to the super bowl and two weeks earlier. The left tackle for the chiefs. Got hurt to the chiefs against a very good tampa pass. Rush had backup tackles it. Oh by the way. The super bowl in tampa. It's just one of those things didn't get any breaks early. I mean pandemic year. No preseason no breaks early intimidating look very early and very good in september and look very good october and look very good at chicago but at the end of the year. It just all lined up for tampa bay and i. We don't like to say this but unless you're a dominant super team like let's say the 2017 warriors then you can have injuries and just overcome it but but by and large it's all the margins are all like this. You need a weather break. A health break a scheduling break. You know the two best teams. I've ever seen in my life in basketball jordan's bulls and magic and kareem lakers and there's a lot of people that think magic in his prime kareem exiting is prime but still in his prime would have beaten the bulls because they would have had literally. No answer for kareem. He would've scored thirty five a night. You can certainly make that argument. The lakers had as many good shooters. They would have had a huge point garden center advantage over michael jordan where they would have had a wing and a defense advantage. But if you if you go back to those laker teams and those bulls teams now. Those were great. Those are multiple hall of fame players. You know many close finals. Those guys were in those laker teams. They didn't win every year. Boston given them battles. It was really difficult. You go back to jordan and the bulls planning utah. Those were wars. Those were the michael at some bad bad games in those series. So you know all this stuff is a matter of you. Know it's it's It's a little bit of a break unless you're a super team and even the super teams in sports that just don't last that long and football somebody gets hurt the nba. Somebody's feelings get hurt. And they break it up. And i when. I look at phoenix and i look at a team that has really earned it first of all. They drafted well booker. And the andrei eytan are two home. Runs and mikhail bridge is very good. They've developed well. Cameron payne mikhail bridges. They've been really smart with iraq. Physicians like jae crowder savvy veteran three and d guy. Chris paul dave really developed it. They created this year very smartly continuity they all played all the games like didn't give chris paul games off their whole thing was we got. This is a young team. We gotta build chemistry. And so i at them and i think to myself phoenix has really earned this spot. They drafted well the develop. Well a little bit of a health break but booker broke his nose. Chris paul's had been banged up a couple of times. It's not all gone their way. And let's be honest about milwaukee. One of the reasons that i like phoenix in this series is milwaukee's gotten a series of breaks. Now they did take advantage of it. I forget what their record has. Been an so for twelve and five. I think so that they know they're in the finals. And they've earned it. but i would milwaukee. It's not that they haven't earned it but there have been some real breaks. Lebron left the east. Co- i left the east. The sixers fell apart. The celtics fell apart. Those feel like some real breaks for milwaukee. I look at phoenix. And i'm like i mean they. They were the number two seed in the much better west. We gotta be honest here. The west has been better than the east. Take the sec. And the big ten. Go look at the ball record. Go in the first round of the draft the. Sec's better no excuses. It's not say. Ohio state or wisconsin can't go toe to toe sometimes the better. The west has been significantly better than east the nba. For twenty years. I think the gap has widened with choline. Lebron coming out and the only way for the east to really close the gap as milwaukee's gotta bring everybody back. I think boston has to make a move with jaylen brown to get a bradley beal or dame that makes them feel like a championship team but right now. Toronto has gone down. The tubes boston's gone down the tubes of philadelphia to me is gone down the tubes. It's milwaukee and a lot of that is just brakes. You can make an argument for milwaukee getting breaks. I don't think you can make a break for argument for phoenix getting breaks donovan. Mitchell jamal murray. They still swept them. It's not like like they took advantage. They swept denver a good team. All right so we're ready to go. Nba finals tonight. Bj armstrong alexi lawless Joining us tonight. I'm gonna good mood. There's a rumor the lakers are gonna trade for demar rose and we talked about this earlier. It's something it's a double. It's something well they need to do. Something yes and it's he'd be a great twenty point game third guy to get a bucket. He it's it's not a big trade but it's a double. It's a solid double. I just think he fits with what lebron likes to work with. And what the lakers do. And i don't think it's a loss of a trade on the end of the spurs. No they they like expiring contracts draft and apparently from what i read this morning. Pop like excuse me. Yeah so it's fun doing all rebuilding in san antonio our three live in la coming up next. "A sneak peek of him when the cameras not right. So let's talk bucks and son starts tonight. Janas is out for a couple of games and actually the offense was really efficient. And let's talk about that. You know. Michael jordan sometimes misses a game. Are there moments in the short term that the star leaves the floor and actually the ball moves better. I mean you take your career. Sometimes not that michael was a ball stopper but there are moments when stars leave in the short term teams. Do just fine right well. In the short term that is correct colleen and the reason being is because those teams that you're playing don't know how to particularly defend that team so when you're planning against a yawn his team for instance you kind of settled into a rhythm of how we have to defend them with jaanus because he's going to get the majority of the touches suddenly. There's a new team. There's a new game plan. There's guys in positions you haven't normally or not accustomed to seeing them so it takes a game to get adjusted. It'll be interesting to see how. Phoenix phoenix will defend this team minus janas knowing that janas probably would not be there possibly for the entire series. Yeah it's neither of these teams have like lottery. Picks it's a slow bill. That's very nineteen seventies nineteen eighties nba. Where you know we draft. Well we develop we play a bunch of games and then we insert an old smart veteran at point guard. I mean i like that style. I'm bj on both. I understand the super team. And i'm cool with the development when you look at the sons in the box does does it take you back a little phoenix to the eighties and nineties. When you weren't so star driven well. It's the traditional way of building. A team is what you're talking about you know. You're talking about devon booker. you're talking about the andrea evening in your addy pieces to that and it gives them the ability to have a long-term approach when you look at. This phoenix suns roster. You're saying this team buying if they can be healthy you know for the next five to seven years. They could be making a really. You know significant championship. Run here for the next five or seven years in particular with those guys. Then you plug in chris. Paul you plug in you know jay crowder and suddenly now. You have a championship caliber team. So this is how they used to do it. But now you know we're in a different era. We're in a different era now. We're guys are moving around free agencies without question the quickest way to build a team so i understand both but if you want to have long term success clearly with the phoenix suns have done. They've shown us along with the golden state warriors. If you can build it through the draft if you can take your time you can have a championship caliber team for length of time. By the way it's interesting we join. I have discussed this a couple of different times. Let's say devon booker is the finals. Mvp he averaged thirty three games. Great and de'andre eight actually goes toe to toe with the honest and at times. Outplays him and you're sitting there if you own the sons and you're the gm thinking. Chris paul's getting old. He's been hurting these expensive. If booker in de'andre kerry this team primarily to the finals. Do you advocate as gm. For a four year. Chris paul deal or a three year. Chris paul deal. What would what do you do then. Wow that's that's that's a big question. That's that's a big question and that's why those guys get paid the big bucks. We'll say this. We can't forget that. This team did not make the playoffs last year. They haven't been in the playoffs for the last. What ten twelve. Years or so. In suddenly now with chris paul and everything. That's come together. Certainly they have a team. I know chris paul thirty six you know he you know he's at a point guards age where we all know that some point speed and quickness is going to leave all small guards however in today's game and what chris paul's able to do is the intangibles. I think chris has pushed team the edge in particular his leadership his stability and his and what. I love most about chris paul is. We don't expect him to be. Chris paul where he has carry the team with thirty forty points night in and night out he can do it when needy and chris paul has you know. He's been really like a maestro all year well certainly in his career but this year even more so because you can see how will their planned together. This is a beautiful team. They have a nice inside outside combination and those two young players. You mentioned the audrey. Eyton devon booker. They look like they're going to be bona fide stars for many years to come by the way. The sons only had nine different starting lineups all year. Now that that goes back to your bulls. What what what what. What was your bull starting lineup. Gimme the years you were there. What was the lineup. Mostly every night. When i first got there john paxson. Michael jordan scottie. Pippen horace grant. And bill cartwright i think the stability of having your guys and understanding your role in knowing what you have to do and the beautiful thing we had with that team was we had a lot of death and we had two guys who were capable of playing with starters and on the bench. I mean with the bench guys and talk about scott michael. Scottie headed gone early. Michael would play with us and vice versa. So to me the death and the combination of having guys who can plug in coming off the bench gives you a really two teams in one and we certainly had that with michael and scotty because they they they were interchangeable they could play on both sides of the ball so they're really four players at once built up and could play on offense. You know with the stars and the bench ends do do so as well with the defense With the backup guys as well from the wasserman media group the all star the champ three times eleven years. "Off a year. Nobody really elaborate on it. I just think if they get bounced in the first round and they have a better team. I mean like we said earlier. They won forty seven games with paul george between the two of them taken forty games off a good team with a championship. Winning coach dallas one forty. Two games clippers had home court advantage clippers rather better team better roster clippers. Have you could certainly argue. Coli is a much better overall player than luca. Luca place no defense yet so you start losing games. It's one thing you start losing series. You're favored and you can't blame injuries. You move into a different territory from a little quirky to this guy. Can't be a one will see his. His legacy is still being shaped one. More herd the herd streams twenty four hours a day seven days a week within the iheartradio app. Search her to listen live or on demand whenever you like. let's bring on. Bj armstrong three time nba champ is now joining us live. So you know i. It's interesting everybody talks about lebron's legacy and i'm like don't worry about lebron's legacy it's fine head that but kalis interesting. Bj because this is two years their way too talented to be this lousy at the end the games we all blame doc rivers. Well dr pretty good philly right tyler. Lou is no slouch. He knows what he's doing. He's got title. This team is should not be nearly this bad at the end of games. They've lost every home game in the playoffs. You know you talk about hawaii. Bj what made michael great was not only his relentless listeners is talent but mike would get in your kitchen. Timeout might communicate it. Mike was verbal. Mike was not passive aggressive at there was a problem. Bj go right to you you. I mean he's young and with kawai. Bj and you as an agent. No this not. Every athlete is comfortable with being verbal. It could is just a really talented too. That you need a different kind of guy to be the centerpiece of your franchise. What commented appears to be with a talent like kawhi. Leonard without forcing is one of the elite players in the nba. He is without exception of league player in his talent warns that respect in what he's been able to do what he's done speaks for itself throughout his career however we're talking about is a personality that requires him to do something that maybe he's not comfortable with. And that's the be confrontational at times. And all great leaders you know you gotta do what you have to do. And you know you talk about michael jordan. Michael jordan was comfortable being uncomfortable. And if need be he would make you uncomfortable. Because in the end there was one thing that he was you know he was what she wanted. Which is performance. You know it all came down to winning with him. Which is he was very single minded. Focus that way. So i think in the end. Leonard right now is at a place where he's got allow his personality which may not be very verbal. He has to come out. Let the guys know where he's at and be able to really force his will upon the team because his talent is he's without question an elite player in the nba. You know the old saying in the nba. A guy is loyal. Until he's not an i love dame i think he is just exhausted from dropping fifty and losing. He's still got another four. he's a smaller guy. But he's got 'em he's a terrific player. If you can shoot like that you can play in the nba for a long time deep down. I know he's disappointed. Is this just like one bad night or you know as somebody. Who's an agent. There's gonna be a lot of sooners. There's going to be people in his ear. Bj they're going to be like dame you're thirty bra you gotta move. What do you think transpires here. I think there will be a lot of takers town like dang dame delivered throughout the nba. Hayek damian. damian has shown the ability. No he's very loyal and He's been very loyal to the organization and he's a competitor competitor at the highest level. Mean what he did in this last series. I mean he's just an amazing amazing competitor. What he was able to do in score ways to score. However i think call. You made some great points. He's got to figure out at this phase of his career you know. He's roughly around thirty thirty one years of age. You know how much longer can a smaller guy continued to play and move and these guys are getting faster and faster every year like jaama rant so forth and so on so he's at a place in his career where he's saying i got to be able to make a run at the next three to four years. And what's gonna give me the best you know you know the best chances to do that in a cheap because you clearly know the way he plays he has one focus. He wants to win and he shows up every night so i think he has to sit down You know right now. He's very emotional so over the summer whenever the time is right i think he will sit down and make the best move. The he feels will be comfortable for him moving forward with his career. You know it's interesting. I'm going to throw a theory to you and you tell me if it's wrong i have no problem. I really don't do ripping my theory so here. It's really hard to find a great player like dame it's hard to find a number two finding pippins hard and i argue. They mark cuban's a smart guy. They could never get dirty to in his prime. They can't fight dame portland's drafted a lot of good players. They can't find dame. It's hard and i look at luca and i think listen man. They thought porzingas was a to. He's an expensive three. That's what he's become is harder as as as a somebody. Who's an agent. Because it used to be you could get three and four years a tape out of a college guy. If you that up as a scout you're a bad scout. Now i get if i'm lucky. Thirty college games at tape. That's all i get. So there's more whiffs in the draft we're asking the nfl scout. I get four years a tape. I better not screw up that linebacker. Nba scouts getting thirty games. Ninety nine percent of the players that jalen suggs gonzaga played against are not. Nba guys. how do i know i was gonna play against nba guys so that finding that to maybe tougher now than it was in the mj era. Am i right or wrong on that calling. You're absolutely right. Finding a star player is a very difficult thing especially today. Because there's just not enough tape is not enough tape on these guys that actually properly evaluate. You don't know you know who's who's who i mean you look at yokich yorker towards the second round pick. Okay he could possibly. You're potentially the mvp this year in the va. You know you look at players you know. Some of these players are drafted. You know the players coming from europe players are coming from all over this this not a traditional way to properly valuate players in a league where you're seeing. The players get younger and younger. So you're absolutely right. Finding a number one player is very very difficult finding a number two player. I mean it's almost impossible the way these guys are playing. You gotta find combination and then collins thin call chemistry. You gotta find guys way. It just works. We don't know why it works. It works so you know. Luca danni you know. I had an opportunity to watch this young man for many years over in europe. I thought he was going to be a good player. That i think he was going to be this lucas that we're currently seeing no but suddenly he's ascended to this level. I saw janas play over in greece. That i think he was going to be back back. Mvp the answer is no so again. It's very difficult but when you find him you roll with it and you know what i. It's hard to put these combinations together. Because that's the one thing that the analytics doesn't show the chemistry and the bringing a team together their works for the entire group. Your perfect guest today was i was just talking about this. Last hour with joy is that not only was lebron greatness prime but he had a superpower he could tell rich paul klutch sports or he'd get on the phone and say i wanna play with you chris. Bosh and kevin love in their prime would go play with lebron give up stats give up. I mean literally. Chris bosh there were night. He had to be lebron's valet and he's an first team all nba guy. Kevin love was a perennial twenty-five twelve guy. Lebron now if called. John moran job you like you're old. You're my robin annot your robin and watch the lebron last night and i thought the imagery you know this is an agent there are everybody wants to play with john moran now everybody wants. Everybody wants to play with luca. I think a lot of the stars they would take lebron's call out of respect. But why would i saddle myself. Lebron i think i think the titles are done. I think the lakers will blow it up and start over. But i watched last night. It's no it's no knock on him but the super power attracting a top five player bj. I think it's over. that's my interpretation. Your thoughts i think aids catches up with all of us and certainly. Let's not you know this is a very vulnerable state. Let the bronze. Because he's been great for so long but you know let's call it like it. Is you know lebrons getting older and once you get older. You know the the the games in which you're able to carry a game and colza game it begins to diminish that's what you're seeing lebron's without question can still finish again. But now he's at a place in his career where having to carry a forty eight mini game for eighty two games or the regular season. In the case we're talking about here with these shortened seasons that we have. It's getting very difficult for him. You add an injury there and you can see how difficult it is so. I think it's important for the lakers. Right now if they're going to continue to compete for championships. Anthony davis is going to have to be the best player on the team in particularly in the regular season. He's going to have to carry the game. Which will allow lebron james do with. Lebron james can do right now. Still at this level he can finish the game with getting there and playing during the regular season. All those things. Look we all get older and once you get ordered you just. Your body doesn't hill you. You know you know father. Time doesn't pass anyone so it's just getting more difficult for him in that regard but still. Let's let's you know. Lebron james stolen elite player at this league even at his age. I mean he's coming into what year nineteen but right now. It's getting more and more difficult for him to do that. On a very consistent basis or what we've come to expect from lebron james b j armstrong have a great weekend. Oas love having you on the shell perfect guy today. Three time champ. Good senior man. Only it works with mac jones. I think you have to do the opposite. I think you have to sell him to the players. I said a couple of days ago. Video has surfaced of cam. Newton mack jones next to each other mack. Jones looks pathetic. He looks like a ballboy. Nothing fits he. Looks tiny next to cam. Newton the player see that cams and a don us matt jones looks like somebody came would call and say you parked my car off. He doesn't look the part the opposite to play.
