You know what you you could feel very insecure and do anything to keep that that lover there. If it's a machine couldn't manipulate you in in subtle ways that you're not even aware of what power does should we be regulating or restricting the power of these advanced machines that we bring into our lives and how and how they influence our lives on all these different levels. I think maybe after we built ourselves up so much for traffic bozeman to win an oscar. That didn't happen are are am. I being overly anxious about this. Just you should be a little anxious about it. Just because people who misunderstand the london things will feel maybe like. It's disrespectful but the good news is he was already a front runner in that category. Yes i think so. So he was already sort of a projected winner for a lot of people. So i'm hoping that that happens in this moment. Courtney b vance one for lovecraft country in the guest category. Great that win hugely. Deserve courtney vance great and lovecraft country and and he took that moment to like honor. Michael k and stuff like that. So i think that I'm hopeful that it's a it's a. It's a nice moment from. Yeah it'll be memorial. But i wouldn't be surprised if there was a separate tribute for him during the show. Just for how. i love. Omar didn't really at all center on that character's homosexuality the way that this did center on this character being in the closet and struggling with his sexuality in finding liberation and finding love and all sorts of stuff like that. So i i think it was a really beautiful final role for this great actor who did a lot over his career to challenge our expectations of what a gay character looks and sounds like on television. So yeah i mean it feels like there are few big narratives. No small narratives only big narratives. Finally getting her emmy and the crown dominating to lhasa dominating net flicks finally getting a big emmy. Yeah disney plus you know entering the race substantially etc so snl. I mean as i say this. I got so burn out on us. L. for much of the trump administration post trump was sort of the most i enjoyed. Snl in a long time. and so. i'm i'm less fatigued than they usually am looking at a bunch of nominations and wins for us and them. I'm wondering if the crown is gonna win. Best drama series. Unlike looking at that list and thinking like the handmaid's tale got a ton of acting. Nominations man laurean keeps overperforming. Pose like one. It's i you know other means besides billy porter at creative arts emmys like maybe not. Maybe i'm just looking for a fabricated narrative. But that would be what i would look toward i love fabricated narrative. So i love this for you. Where you're like. There's is a little bit of wobble between the head and the spotting scope so with that wins It was really really hard to see how big you are. But i suspect you're going to start start turning back backup because it's know it's a great area is only gonna get better. Yeah i mean especially if you have an interest in both on the computer side as finished on the medical side. This seems like a fantastic absolutely. Yeah the the. There's something for everybody. How do you write ten specials. Like how do you write ten ninety minute. Specials and part of it is you have to sit and leno this kind of a modification of what leno said longtime ago. It's like working out. You gotta right all the time. Because then the jokes come faster. You're pay heavier weights up. You can come up with new concepts but the reason ba most guys sit down and we're in a room by ourselves and try to write jokes and if we don't write something funny and five minutes like fuck. I'm not doing this. Suck on that doing this and you push it aside right. Well here's why yes we live in. We live in a very a linear world. A very structured world bills have to be a certain time. And i got a call that guy and i gotta do this podcast that i walked up before. And so we live in a very uncreative. Blackie right angle world to write comedy you have to connect the thinnest threads to idea to like disparate ideas. So and the only way that happens is creatively. But if you're living in the linear mind you can't you can't do it so how you get out of. The linear mind is also musical. Do it to you have to write and this is the number to use to you get. It'll get faster if you right. Get right shit for thirty five minutes just shit. Don't don't judge it. Just like whatever's coming out. Just let it go and even if you hate it you know. Just deal with that tumor that growing on your soul. Just keep going. And i guarantee you right around thirty five minutes. You will write a joke that you like and then don't stop because now you're open so now you can write another hour and you're good but it takes about thirty five minutes and again the more you do it the more to increase like when i when i sit down and write a new show. I developed a certain level of mental toughness through sports at the silly level that i played. I mean i wasn't playing in college And through academics and just through life. But i feel that the the pressures that are on these kids from every different angle and in last year that the covert pressures really forces you to have a level of mental toughness that If you want to succeed in this world and it's sad that we've gotten there but as a dad it's my obligation to prepare for the real world and so that's my number one goal. My number two goal is to really make sure that she grows up as much like her mother as possible because I i was out with a buddy of mine. Who knows both my wife and i yesterday. And he has some really. He described my wife in a way that that really jumped out at me and he says you know your wife is one of those people that You know she can hang with the guys but no nobody's going to take advantage of her and i thought about that and like my wife. I think my wife is gorgeous. Obviously the most gorgeous woman. I've ever met you know. And i like all the feminine attributes of her but in a come to think of it even when i was in the dating mode and you know how guys can be i. I never heard guys talking about her. In a crass way and i feel is that's because she exuded a certain level of self respect. And i want i want to somehow make sure that that. That's that the little baby. When she grows up to be a woman. Has that and i feel confident that my wife sort of charter the path for that. Because you know if you're strong woman in today's society it really does help you and My wife's a strong woman. And i'm looking forward to that That might be just an observation on my part. I don't know if i'm going to be able to be the coach on that. My wife might need to take the lead on that. But i'll certainly be encouraging along the way and if there was a third i think we all wanna have our kids not make the mistakes that we made I don't want her. My parents didn't put pressure on the. I put a lot of pressure on myself to to. I don't wanna say impress my parents but to be a good doobie and they tried to sort of say you know. Just be happy. Just live your life. And i didn't listen so i'm gonna try my best to convince them that kicked him in the little one to really focus on being happy You know if she's anything like her father she'll try to impress us anyway and i certainly hope that that doesn't come at the expense of her own happiness because i felt like subjugated a lot of my own happiness along the way Just to sort of please others even though they were not asking to be please So those are my three. Yeah very well said todd and then what about now. I know your daughter is only eight months now. So it's really for this but What was the what was your relationship like with your parents growing up. What was the discipline style. Like with your parents and is that kind of discipline style. You plan on implementing a timeout guy. Spanker what was the discipline style like when you grew up. I'm forty three years old so You know the whole time now thing was was was not happening back. Then i'm from jersey You know there's a lot of hitting jersey but you know my dad didn't like to hitting I think my dad used to cry. Then he used to have to hit us like tone sex. Ain't my dad's a worst but You know my my dad can can lose his temper just like any any good italian male but my dad did not like it in the belt. My mom was a wooden spoon person because her mom before it was a wooden spoon. And i feel like the wooden spoon is a important part of italian culture but i was pretty good k. My brother's a pretty good kid. The only time that we get in trouble because when we were like bothering each other Really that's the only time. The wooden spoon came out of the threats of of spanking came out. We're pretty good kids the one other time. I did a girl when i was three. And so my mom bitney back. You know that was a physical nece here. You know so what we're gonna do. I'd like to say we had this huge discussion about this So far so good. You know the kids not kids. I think it's going to have to be the wise i i i can't. I can't look at the little one that i'm going to smack her on her bottom You know anytime she. It certainly is a question But again i. I was a pretty good kid. I didn't i didn't necessitate a lot of reprimanding and again that goes back to my earlier. Point of of trying to be a good kid trying to to to not require punishment. Always try to keep my parents happy. And i think that's a testament to my parents that You know encouraged us to be to be good and they you know they rewarded us with You know i. It wasn't like now the trophy generation. Where everybody you you smile and you get a trophy but I just think they rewarded us with with positive reinforcement and I i had a pretty darn good childhood. You know i. my parents still alive. Don't see him this weekend. We fight more now than we did. Back then because as they get older sunny and And acting goofy yourself Almost my job to like keep track of them and make sure they're on the straight narrow not doing stupid things but Yeah i i had an awesome childhood. I i was pretty lucky. You hear horror stories out there. Yeah very cool tied now. Obviously they i remember having my first and like sometimes you in the beginning. You're you're very cautious about going out places in public with the baby because it's your first time you're very new to all of it now. During a pandemic. I would imagine that's kind of like twofold or even maximize have you guys been able to Breakthrough have you been able to take. Take her out and go places with her. Enjoy some experiences. Have you guys kind of limited. Her and kinda helped your home for most of the time i wanna say it's less about her less about the pandemic and more about like we don't have time. Let's bring it in so it's not. it's not really pandemic related. It's not her related You know with the shores really are going down the shore on weekends. I was trained by ear but one of the things. My husband was a classical musician. He was trained. He started playing the trombone when he was six. And he was in the youth orchestra and then in the all colorado state youth orchestra and then when they moved to wyoming he was first share in high school orchestra and then he played that local symphony so he had classical training and i needed to study music to get that language because i have a very instinctual response to english to music. I mean that. I can say oh this melody. Line if communicating the following feelings and. He doesn't for him. It's everything's kind of in that base register of where the trombone sits and he thinks more in terms of rhythm and he was having great difficulty translating that to his composing so part of meeting a music degree was getting the language. So i could speak to him so instead of saying okay the on bit. You got a punch that up so it has more bottom and more ins. And he's like what does that mean. And so i had to go to university so guy okay. The ground base needs to move at a higher tempo. And you need to have an accented beat on the third and You know and the fifth or whatever and so..

I should say On louisiana derby day all of those battles really helped him in and then we also saw big move forward on derby day and He was very impressive against a failed. And and he wouldn't even phase He did you know he made a little subtle move in how derby that most probably got in. Got him home at You know the untrained. I wouldn't see and and The back the outside post horse he would just fall out of the gate school him and his first race and now he breaks race running and travels in hand and laze close very athletic. And so that's that's a good thing for us going forward where we don't have to worry about where we where we draw but as far as me l. down the backside. He was traveling along. Nicely and Todd sources the one horse promise keeper and and with messiah out there where the track was playing he. He jumped on him pretty early.
