Nine hundred thirty three ninety-three also at pat unleashed on twitter. Bill gates talking to a believe. Jake tapper about first policy. The america first approach to receiving the vaccine. The president wants to take care of americans. Here's what bill gates thinks about that. President trump signed an executive order That prioritizes distribution of the vaccine to americans Before it goes to people in other countries it's not entirely clear how the order will achieve that. But what do you think of that. Strategy that approach that everyone in the united states should be vaccinated first and then the us should pivot or these private company should pivot to helping the rest of the world. Why we need help all of humanity here Know we want the world economy. Be going we want to minimize the deaths and You know the. The basic technology is a german company and so international sharon cooperation has been disruptive and a mistake during this entire pandemic so positive to ramp. Virtually all of the companies that have developed vaccines are. Us companies. pfizer did work with bio intech in germany. They developed it together. Madonna is a an american company. Johnson and johnson is an american company. Astrazeneca is an american company. All of these people have have developed these things. Here in america for the most part and also why wouldn't you focus on your own country first and then spread it out to the rest of the world just i mean unbelievable to me that the globalist mindset that we have a responsibility to take care of everybody before ourselves. I'm sorry. what are the instructions on an airline win the cabin depressurizes and the oxygen masks. Drop down from that panel above your head. What is a what is a flight attendant to put yours on first then assist your children put yours on first and then assist everybody else. So why is that. Why why do we have that instruction well so you can take care of somebody else because if you pass out. You're not going to be able to help your kids. are you going to be. They're going to be lost without you. So if the if the united states of america goes down who's going to help the rest of the world then who's going to take care of everybody else. You gotta take care of yourself. I get on solid footing and then we can go take care of the of the world like we always do. I mean who on this planet has ever offered more aid to everybody else than the united states. We are always the first. On the scene of every single disaster we give by far More charitable donations to the rest of the world in foreign aid and And in private citizen aid by far more than anybody in the world probably more than the rest of the world combined. I mean our charitable giving tops. Three hundred billion a year like thirty to fifty billion of that comes from the us government. The rest is from us corporations and private citizens we always take care of the rest of the world. I wonderful was bill gates when he stole the technology that made him a billionaire from zero oxen. Ibm he took the the the mouse from. I believe it was xerox. And i believe the operating system came from ibm and then he knew how to apply those. Two things xerox. Ibm didn't really know what they had available to. Them gates was smart enough to figure that out but he did take the technology from them when when the money started rolling in did he take care of everybody else i did. He start setting all that all that money to other people or did he become a billion. I the richest man in the world. I and then start his philanthropic adventures. Let's see the rest of this So we need to ramp up the capacity of all the vaccines There will be some additional ones approved in the months ahead. Easier to scale up to manufacturing Button also the. Us has benefited from other countries. Work here and we shouldn't entirely selfish and how we go forward that's us. We're selfish so in your view. America first as the president might call it. Not the right approach. And what a surprise that we'd stream idea that Everybody should die until we have a very last american vaccinated by that. Yeah that was the executive order that The trump signed everybody else in the world should die until we have every last american vaccinated then with everybody else dead. We won't have to distribute the vaccine to anybody. How ridiculous is this guy all. Does he have more so the idea that everybody should die. Until we have the very last american vaccinated. That's ardley the appropriate response. Yeah nobody's suggesting it either is the interesting thing about that. Nobody suggesting that everybody else in the world should die before they get the vaccine. I don't know i. I don't understand it i really don't understand it. We all wanna take care of everybody else if we can. We wanna help other other people. Give them a hand up instead of a handout. But again there is a concept that you take care of yourself first so that you're alive and around and healthy enough to offer assistance to the rest of the world. How did you not get as the third richest person on earth. And this guy's mr vaccine. He he believes Strongly vaccines vaccines should come in fact With the ability to sterilize women so that we can Accomplish zero population growth. One of his deals a lot of people don't know his. His father was at one point ahead of planned parenthood the head of planned parenthood. So he's a big zero population guy now. Speaking of the vaccine. This is kind of interesting. Apparently vacs vaccine people. The people have developed pfizer madonna. They're taking some lessons from ice cream manufacturer dip dots because dip dots. I didn't realize that you know a dip dots. Are right there the little balls of ice cream that you see at fairs set in the mall. theme parks have dipping dots. It's not the greatest ice cream on the planet perhaps but it's convenient and it's the it's easy to to eat when you're on the go so anyway. Apparently the process of manufacturing dip dots includes flash freezing the ice cream into these little balls with liquid nitrogen that is three hundred twenty degrees below zero. So it's a really ultra cold process and then In order to maintain that form that little ball form of ice cream that they have it has to stay at at least forty nine below zero the entire time so it has to be delivered at forty nine below zero. It has to be stored at forty nine below zero otherwise it just in belts into some kind of gu And you can't have that. This was. I didn't realize dipping dots were invented by a microbiologist. Taste like the. They were invented by microbiologist to actually but back in nineteen eighty eight. We've had them along. We've had them a long time. The ice cream of the future. So i guess even if it slips a few degrees in the wrong direction if it warms up slightly then it doesn't hold his form so The covid manufacturers are looking to dipping dots. In how how. They how they accomplished their delivery process. And i guess mostly they do it with dry ice stray ice I think is almost a hundred degrees below zero. Which is where pfizer. The pfizer vaccine needs to be stored the madonna Vaccine only needs to be stored at four below zero so they're looking towards dipping dots and how they've been doing this thing for thirty two years for how they can deliver their vaccines. What a weird world you get. You couldn't make this stuff up. Nobody would believe it mean. Actual life is so much stranger than fiction. It's it's really pretty amazing. All right let me take a minute and tell you about patriot mobile. This is the season for giving and patriot. So if you like to take a break from politics we could certainly do that. And talk about some christmas Things are you doing for instance. Are you doing anything differently to celebrate christmas this year because of covid nineteen are you. Following the guidelines that are being prescribed for us in not having or go through the washington state guidelines in omitted. It's they're pretty restrictive. But are you taking any precautions like that or you celebrating like always triple eight nine hundred thirty three three also like to hear about your favorite christmas movie. Maybe the best. Christmas movie the worst christmas movie in your mind triple eight. Nine hundred thirty three ninety-three some of the restrictions we have. we've already heard a about california and their restrictions. and you basically. You can't go anywhere and you can't do anything that's it. Just stay home. Maybe you can turn on the television but don't don't try to venture outside because we've got swat teams that are watching you every minute of the day so in washington state. Now they're governor. Jay inslee has instituted a whole bunch of new oppressive rules. Of course these restrictions don't apply to courts and judicial branch related proceedings but to rank and file citizens. Yes you must abide rule number one now. Indoor social gatherings with people from outside your household are prohibited. Congratulations washingtonians. You can't have anybody over to your house for christmas this year or new year's for that matter. Now that's unless the people who come to. Your house have been quarantined for fourteen days before they come over. That's not a problem in it. How many of us have been quarantining for fourteen days or they could quarantine for seven days prior to the social gathering and receive negative covid nineteen test result. No more than forty eight hours prior to the gathering at your house cheese number two. So that's only the first restriction restriction number to outdoor social gatherings shelby limited to five people from outside your household. Feel free to invite all the people you want as long as it doesn't exceed five and that's for outside so if you're having a backyard barbecue you could five other people over all masked up of course even though you're outside number. Three restaurants and bars are closed for outdoor dining service outdoor dining and to go service are permitted provided that all outdoor dining must comply with the requirements of the outdoor dining guidance table-size for outdoor dining is limited to a maximum of five people. Of course fitness facilities and gyms are closed for indoor operations. Outdoor fitness classes are permitted. many times. You see outdoor gyms all the time right. Almost every fitness center is outdoors. Except for not at all. I don't again. How do they expect the owners of gyms and fitness places. How do they expect them to survive. There's i i mean. I don't see any way they can if they're if they're abiding by these rules Bowling bowling centers are of course closed for indoor service again. You've got to rely on all the outdoor bowling alleys for your bullying enjoyment. But how do you choose outdoor bowling establishment. They're just so many miscellaneous venues all retail activities and business meetings are prohibited only professional training and testing that can't be performed remotely as well as all court judicial branch related proceedings are allowed occupancy and each meeting room is limited to twenty five percent of indoor capacity limits or one hundred people whichever is fewer miscellaneous venues include convention and conference centers designated meeting places in a hotel event centers fairground sporting arenas nonprofit establishments or substantially similar venue. I mean they're virtually shutting everything down in washington state just as they did in california movie theaters. Of course the indoor movie theaters completely closed for service. You can't operate a movie theater in the state of washington california as well drive in movie theaters are permitted but they must continue to follow the current drive in movie theater guidance. Which i don't know what that is probably see. You can only have two people in your car museums. Zoos and aquariums all closed for indoor services. This is perfect at christmas time. This will work out really well for businesses real estate. Get this the ninth restriction real estate. If you're trying to sell your house you can't have an open house open. Houses are prohibited. Sorry how how do you expect me to sell my home. Wow if you're in washington right now and relocating and you got to sell your home. Good luck on that weddings and funerals. Don't die or get married right now. it's really really important. Because ceremonies are limited to a total of no more than thirty people. Indoor receptions wakes or any kind of similar gathering in conjunction with with these kinds of things completely prohibited restriction. Eleven in store retail. She'll be limited twenty. Five percent of indoor occupancy limits and common congregate is indoor dining facilities. Such as food courts are closed. Okay can we go to church. Religious services restriction twelve. They're limited to twenty five percent of indoor occupancy or no more than two hundred people whichever is fewer congregation members and attendees must wear facial coverings at all time and congregation. Singing is prohibited. You ever think we see a time where the government is telling us. We can't sing and especially church are. You can't sing anywhere but you can't you especially can't sing at church. Wow no choirs. No bands or ensembles will perform during the service vocal or instrumental. Soloists are permitted to perform and vocal solo. Soloist may have a single accompaniment. Accompanist outdoor services must follow the outdoor dining guidance applicable to the structure or facility. Professional services are required. Mandate that employees work from home when possible and close offices to the public. If possible any office it must remain open. Must limit occupancy to twenty five percent of indoor limits personal services are limited to twenty five percent of indoor occupancy. Personal services include cosmetologist cosmetology testing hairstyles. Barbers master aestheticians manicurist nail salon workers electrolysis permanent makeup artist tanning salons and tattoo artists so twenty five percent of indoor capacity long term care facilities outdoor visits are permitted. Indoor visits are prohibited but there are some exceptions for essential support people or end of life care as for youth and adults sporting activities indoor activities in all contests and games are prohibited. There won't be any outdoor activities should be limited to enter team practices only with facial coverings required for all coaches volunteers and athletes at all times. I love watching the the the games lately and The coaches they're all masked up because they have to be or they're gonna get fined in the nfl they'll leave and lose draft picks and not only. Do you have to wear the mask but you have to wear it. The they say you need to wear it covered at the nose and the mouth at all times and then now it's so bad that even the players when they come off the field. When they're on the sideline they have to put on a mask. Ask things just so out of control. And then they wonder why we're experiencing this kind of fatigue and they wonder why we're we're kind of pushing back against it. Don't you people understand. This isn't forever right. It's been nine months when we were told. We needed to flatten the curve for two weeks nine months later it's getting worse. Which is why. Maybe we should talk about christmas and christmas related things today triple eight nine hundred thirty three ninety-three mason in montana. Hey mason hey. Thanks for taking my call i must. I must admit It's a privilege to talk to you because this is definitely my favorite podcast. Listen to thank you. Where in montana are you calling from just south of missoula okay for the liberal part. Yes definitely So the The worst movie has to be the christmas story. The most boring movie. Oh wow. I'm not a big fan of the christmas story either but for a lot of people. That's their favorite movie. I knew that would be an unpopular pick but it. Yeah people are realist. Have to realize it's gotta be the dumbest movie The best one is It's a wonderful life. I keep hoping that Foul cheese comes in twenty twenty one and says You know. I'm an angel and twenty. Twenty was all a dream so hopefully hopefully saints she reveals that he's really clearance or clarence so that would be nice. Yeah all right shit. Thanks a lot Mason triple eight nine hundred thirty. Three ninety. Three also at pat unleashed on twitter. Me i don't see that for saints ouchi however he was just making a another big announcement of how critical it is right. Now that we follow all of these restrictions like lined up Like i just outlined for you from washington state california and of course he suggesting that joe biden and kamala harris get inoculated immediately and that President trump also get the vaccine which is interesting because he's already had covert nineteen and you would think he would have some immunity already. It'll be interesting to see how they deal with I think they're suggesting that even if you've had covid nineteen they still want you to get. They still want you to get the vaccine. It's amazing the unintended consequences. That things you never think about. That are occurring right now like There's an article here today about the covid relationship problems that are coming up because we're all I guess jammed into close quarters in some cases and because there's so many restrictions on us and there's a lot of debate about whether or not a mask is even worthwhile me do i do. I even have any protection with it because in the beginning i was told no. You don't wearing a mask is like trying to keep trying to keep mosquitoes out of your backyard with a chain link fence. That's that's what we were told in the beginning. A now now masks are just all important so anyway. This article outlines some of the relationship. Problems that people are experiencing for instance ami abby. Mahler just ended a childhood friendship in the comments section of whatever instagram posts posts Read you do not like. Oh i guess whatever. Whatever friends liked her post and Her friend apparently has a different opinion on on where to go and what to do during this pandemic so she wrote you. Do not like this post with the amount of restaurants you eat at expletive. I mean it. She wrote so. She broke up with her friend right there on instagram. She has spent the last month nine months using her social media account to help inform others about the importance of mask wearing. I guess. She's an expert. Now she must be A scientist by day but instagram has been a window into the day today activities of people who have gone about their lives. As if there were no pandemic eating at restaurants mask free going on lavish vacations hanging out at bars. So if you disagree with those things it causes real issues with other people around you even people who have been lifelong friends because his muller said i have no patience for people who don't think literal rules apply to them. Some people just believe in freedom and don't like to be told by government what they should be doing. Triple eight nine hundred thirty. Three ninety-three withdrew thought reading here. This morning triple eight nine hundred thirty three ninety three. Also pat unleashed on twitter. Where spoiling tweets. We'll also hear of course About diehard. I'm sure being christmas movie because nothing could be further from the truth but there are those who insist that it is all right best to worst christmas movies. Let's go to cheryl in florida Cheryl hi you're on the blaze pat. I don't agree with my gremlins christmas movie. I not. I mean. Yes the German mayor trips a toy breaks his leg in. Dean's all toys immoral and illegal. That's what that's what we're going through right now. It really does feel like that doesn't it. Yeah is that is that. The burger meisters in Is it santa. claus is coming to town. Is that yeah. I think it is. Yep chris cringle yep frisch it. Thanks a lot ron that's a good point. Very reminiscent of that. Also some heartbreaking news for you if you if. You've yet to hear the greatest kicker who ever lived sarah fuller wyoming greatest kicker. Whoever lived if you're to believe all the hype surrounding her. She actually is a soccer player at vanderbilt. And vanderbilt's actual kicker got covid nineteen or got injured. Somehow there was nobody else around everybody's off campus and the girls soccer team happened to be there and so they invited her to try out and and maybe kick for them over the last couple of games well vanderbilt has has cancelled their last Football game of the season because covid and so it may be that sarah fuller may have played her last football game already she in vanderbilt or apparently done for the year but man did she set the world on fire while she was around. She kicked not one but two extra points in football games. Now the big deal. They made out of that. Doesn't that seem kind of sexist. I it is not a huge thing to be able to kick a An extra point. It's maybe nineteen or twenty yards. Did you have to you have to boot. It that distance it has to clear ten feet of the goalpost of the crossbar. And it has to be between the uprights. Most people could probably do that. She did it twice he made. It seem as if she'd set every single kicking record in the book but after becoming the first woman to play and score in a power five conference. Football game fuller was robbed of another chance to kick on saturday. Vanderbilt's a not gonna play georgia as they were scheduled to now she's going for the vanderbilt women's soccer team made her debut by kicking that squib kick no reason in the world for vanderbilt to have squibb kicked the second half kickoff but I feel like that. They did that for her so that they could say yes. She did that on purpose. Yeah it's not that you can't kick it a really long way. It's just that we didn't want her to anyway. She tweeted out It looks like my time is a football player has come to an end. I was accepted as an athlete and a true member of this team. This is an experience that i will never forget. And we'll cherish forever. Good luck to the seniors and who are moving on to new adventures. Best wishes to the team is this program moves forward and continues to grow. I'm sure that will inspire those who play football at vanderbilt now. For years to come. I mean it is nice. I guess that she was able to do that. And become the first woman in a power five game to do that but the hype around. It was so ridiculous. How many times did espn show her. Kick an extra point again. I think that's insulting to her and to women triple eight nine hundred thirty three three. Edit pat unleashed on twitter. Let's go to steven in north carolina. Hey steven hey better you don't doing good. We'll we'll be happy with it. My family you know are still planning on doing everything the same way we do every going down to its field south carolina and fun fact. You know what racist turtles from out there. Because i don't like all the commercialism how commercialized become and how getting away from the true meaning. of course. yeah. That is unfortunate for sure. Appreciate it. Thanks a lot stephen Triple eight nine hundred thirty three ninety three. I always think though that we can kind of control that in our own lives if we want to. We can ignore the commercialism and just focus on the birth of jesus. If we choose to do that. I know it can. Well pat is it really all that surprising that the democrats have a problem with abraham lincoln No it really isn't actually but it just you know you. You expect this stuff from democrats and then it went really happens though. It's still kind of amazing there. Renaming abraham lincoln highschool because the former president didn't demonstrate. That black lives matter to him. Let's see lincoln oversaw the effort to stop slavery that resulted in the death of over. Six hundred thousand americans net seems like he demonstrated more clearly than anybody in history. That black lives mattered to him. Pick up a history book. Check it out do a little reading anyway. The san francisco district is planning to rename a school named after abraham lincoln. Because as they said he didn't demonstrate black lives matter to him. The president who's often held up as a an american hero for abolishing slavery is just one of forty four historical figures to other names scratched off. Schools within the san francisco unified school district. You really have that much time on your hands that you can devote it to this effort that is just. it's nuts. Some of the other names that they're planning to change. See the list here includes course. We already mentioned abraham lincoln high school Alamo elementary because the alamo was what Belong to mexico. I suppose daniel webster elementary dianne feinstein elementary even dianne feinstein. How now let's see. I'm looking for what it is. She okay so serve as dimitras she allowed. Oh okay. here's the problem with dianne feinstein. She allowed the confederate flag to fly in front of san francisco city hall win. She was the mayor of san francisco from nineteen seventy eight to nine thousand nine hundred ninety eight so forty two years ago. She allowed a confederate flag to fly in front of city hall. And now we've got to remove her name as if she didn't exist. That's pretty amazing that even not even there Progressive heroes are exempt from this kind of stuff. This madness Let's see they want to change the name of francis scott key elementary because well he wrote the star spangled banner. And of course you know how racist that is garfield elementary really. Because the president garfield name person who knows anything about garfield i. I couldn't couldn't really describe any of his agenda during his his presidency. I couldn't tell you what he said. That was offensive They want to eliminate george washington high school change that name just as president trump warned. And we've warned for many years. They will come after all the founding fathers all the statues all the namesake's and it's all gotta go. Jefferson elementary that as well. Because i'm sure both of those men own slaves. That would be the reason you'd want to eliminate them and Paul revere k. through eight this is what paul revere. I'd love to know what it is. Paul revere did to deserve having his name removed from the elementary school. At just it's it's really incredible. The person behind the renaming of these schools is a first grade teacher who was influenced by his parents both prominent members of the nation of islam. Who set up their own. Islamic school wonder if anything's named after muhammad. Could you find something in the life of mohammad that might lead you to want to remove his name from anything no certainly not certainly you was above reproach jeremiah jeffries. Chairman of the renaming committee revealed in an interview that his mother told him once. There's nothing mysterious about progression. It's working instead of wishing so that's what he's doing. He's working to remove the names of these heroes from any school at all in the san francisco bay area. Wow so jeremiah jeffries. Mom and her husband's setup. Sister clara muhammad school that served as a predominant serve predominantly african american muslims the nation of islam which is defined as an organization organized hate group by the southern poverty law center for its racist anti-semitic an anti gay teachings in rhetoric black superiority over whites. So this is the guy in charge of removing all of the names of american heroes from from the school district in san francisco in one thousand nine hundred nine jeffries headlines nationwide when he held a protest against teachers spending their own money on school supplies. That's 'cause they shouldn't have to do that. The san francisco school district includes increased. The school supply budget for the first time in decades of his effort he also carved out a reputation as a power broker for the district board of education using his influence to get at least four candidates appointed at. Here's one of the things that has shaped his life. I guess at the age of twelve after assistant was shot and killed. He got his first taste of working in. Education is a janitor at a childcare center. He later went to the university of virginia where he got involved in racial justice activism with the black student alliance including getting the first black woman into student office and then when he moved to san francisco he counted he co-founded founded teachers for change and laters later teachers for social justice activism. That's great and now They're big effort is to rename schools. Forty four of them and the rest of the district is just going along with it. They're just along for the ride. No need to push back on any of this. Go ahead and and just change our history. What was it that The shell obama said and barack knows that we are going to have to make sacrifices. We're going to have to change our conversation. We're going to have to change our traditions history to move move into a different place into a different place while that is certainly going on. Isn't it we. We are changing our traditions. We are changing our history. We have moved into a different place. We were in america. The land of the free in the home of the brave. Now we've moved into a different place. Cashier says no question about that. Also we have this story. A new york woman is facing weapons charges after the new york police department stormed her home and seized at least twenty two guns from her apartment. Why does she have a stash of twenty two guns. What was she planning. What was she going to do a later. Investigation of the twenty two weapons found that twenty. One of the twenty two were not real. They're fake guns and now she's facing these These weapons churches can we not. I dunno noodle things out anymore as thinking. Human beings are these adults in new york. Where she's she and her husband are struggling. I guess with the relationship and their kid is a little brat and at one point in the movie he heard the dinner table having some kind of argument and the kid jumps out of his chair and says to his father. The kansas was the only state that required such strict voter registration requirements. Pfizer-BioNTech Announces They Will Test a Third Dose of Their COVID-19 Vaccine

"Visor tech announces. They will test a third dose of their covid. Nineteen vaccine by park pfizer bio intech has begun testing a third dose of its covid nineteen vaccine a small group of people. The vaccine is currently authorized in several countries in a two dose regimen given twenty one days apart and has proven studies to be about ninety five percent effective and protecting against covid nineteen disease but as new and more infectious genetic variants of the covid. Nineteen virus start circulating so far. Scientists have identified three major strains i found in the uk south africa and brazil respectively questions about how will authorise vaccines can still thwart. The virus have become more urgent pfizer bio and tech have already done studies testing blood serum from people vaccinated with their original shot against some of these variants and found that the immune response triggered by the two doses is still quite protective and fact in the case of the uk variant referred to as be one one seven levels of antibodies produced by the vaccine regimen. An important immune defense against the virus were similar to levels against the original non mutated virus however the researchers found that the level of antibodies produced by the original vaccine were lower against the south african variant referred to as b one three five one finds her bio n tek hasn't yet completed the same level of rigorous testing against the brazilian variant referred to as p one so far we haven't heard any reports of breakthrough cases among vaccinated people related to any of the new variants says mikhail dole ston chief scientific officer at pfizer referring to serious infections with the variant viruses among vaccinated people. But we always want to be one step ahead of the virus that made us think about generating data on a third boost. We are going to give people who were part of our phase one to study from last summer. A boost with another dose of the current vaccine. We expect that the antibody levels may rise against current variants to strengthen protection. Only a clinical trial will prove that pfizer bio tek plans to vaccinate one hundred forty four people who were enrolled in the company's early phase studies. Who received their second dose between six and twelve months ago in the event that the additional dose does not enhance people's protection dole. Stone says pfizer has also developed a new vaccine targeting the south african variant which has shown the most resistance to vaccine induced immunity so far because the m. are in a technology on which the original vaccine was built only requires the right genetic sequence to build a new version. Dole stone says developing a new vaccine targeting. The south african variant only took six to eight weeks in about a month or so he says pfizer plans to begin a trial in which researchers will give participants who got two doses of the original vaccine a third dose of the new variant vaccine. It's all part of a dry run for what might become a routine process and coming years shifting to new versions of the vaccine after a few months or a year or so similar to the way seasonal flu vaccines change depending on which strains are circulating each influenza season producing the new covid nineteen vaccine and testing it. Dawson says paves the way for more rapid changes in the future. If the virus mutates beyond what we see today we will already have data on how to do a strange shift and rapidly change production. We could just feed the production process with a different are in a and everything else would be the same. He stresses that the original vaccine that received us food and drug administration. Emergency use authorization continues to protect well against all variants of the virus but that all of these measures are ways to constantly have options to stay ahead of the virus and move very fast if we see less protection against any new mutant strains.

Top eleven million in the us of the weekend one million of them recorded and just the past week. The pandemic has killed more than one point. Three million people worldwide more than two hundred forty five thousand of them in the us. Still if the food and drug administration allows emergency use of maderna's or pfizer's candidates there will be limited rationed supplies before the end of the year. Both require people to get two shots several weeks apart but darna expects to have about twenty million doses earmarked by the us by the end of twenty twenty pfizer its german partner bio intech. Expect to have about fifty million doses. Globally by year's end maderna's vaccine created with the national institutes of health is being studied and thirty thousand volunteers. He received either the real vaccination or a dummy shot on sunday and independent monitoring board broke the code to examine ninety five infections. That were recorded. Starting two weeks after volunteers second does and discovered all but five illnesses occurred in participants who got the placebo. The study is continuing and madonna acknowledged the protection rate might change as more covid. Nineteen infections are detected and added to the calculations also. It's too soon to know how long protection lasts both cautions apply to pfizer's vaccine as well but madonna's independent monitors reported some additional promising tidbits. All eleven severe covid. Four of them in huge studies in the us both modern shots and the pfizer bio intech candidate or so called 'em arina vaccine's a brand new technology. They aren't made with the corona virus itself. Meaning there's no chance anyone could catch it from the shots instead. The vaccine contains a piece of genetic code that trains the immune system to recognize the spiked protein on the surface of the virus. The results were a surprise. Scientists have warned for months that any cove nineteen shot may be only as good as flu vaccines which are about fifty percents effective. Another steep. Challenge distributing doses. That must be kept very cold. Both madonna and pfizer shots are frozen but at different temperatures. Madonna announced monday that once thought its doses can last longer in a refrigerator than initially thought up to thirty days. Pfizer shots require long. Term storage at ultra cold temperatures.

"Presented by raytheon technologies our nearly two hundred thousand engineers researchers and people with purpose are building the future today. That's the future of aerospace and defense learn more at rtx dot. Com exclusive pfizer ceo discusses submitting the first covid nineteen vaccine clearance request to the fda by alice park on friday. Pfizer's ceo and chairman albert birla announced that the company has filed a request to the us food and drug administration for emergency use authorization of its covid. Nineteen vaccine making it the first to do so and a discussion on time. One hundred talks borlase says that. If the fda authorizes the vaccine the company will be ready within hours from receiving the green light to start distributing the vaccine. Pfizer has been manufacturing doses. Even wild safety and efficacy tests were ongoing in order to avoid delays in shipping wants authorized according to bora pfizer is on track to deliver the fifty million doses promised to the us government by the end of the year with one point three billion doses through year in an in depth conversation about the journey. The company has taken in developing its vaccine borel emitted that throughout the process. He wasn't always sure that having a safe and effective vaccine ready for fda review in less than a year was possible. Conviction is a part of it. So i was always telling our teams that we will make it and we will make it by october and if not us then who he says but i knew that it wasn't extremely risky suggestion. I knew it was going to be difficult. And the stars needed to be aligned. All the way to the end. Pfizer capitalized on a partnership begun. Twenty with german company bio intech which was founded by a husband and wife team of scientists with expertise in genetic technology called 'em aren a platform is fast and flexible for developing vaccines. Since it only requires knowing the genetic sequence of the virus the vaccine will target rather than growing and manipulating the virus. In question still. No 'em are in a based vaccine against an infectious disease had ever been approved so pfizer and bio intech began exploring whether influence might be the first instead when the pandemic hit a year later. The teams shifted their attention to sars covy to the novel corona virus. That causes covid nineteen with surprising. Success borlase says the partnership is built on a mutual focus on advancing science and the two companies began work including sharing confidential information before signing a formal contract since those agreements can take months in fact we are still finalising the contractual obligations. We have that we need to sign with them says paula. It's the perfect relationship for me to her. Shaheen bio and co founder and chief executive is a wonderful human being and a great scientist. He shares the same passion as i do about saving lives. And i'm very optimistic. That not only will we do very well together. Bringing a covid nineteen vaccine to the world but later hopefully a flu vaccine orla also believes the success of the pfizer biotech vaccine as well as that of massachusetts based biotech moderna which also has an m. r. n. a covid nineteen vaccine candidate show to be ninety four and a half percent effective validates the aren a platform and makes it a serious contender for future vaccines and drugs against emerging infectious diseases that validity of 'em are in vaccines will be further tested wants. Their efficacy can be compared to those of other vaccines that use the more proven methods of relying on weakened cold viruses to deliver a viral material to the immune system or selected fragments of viral proteins while the expressed concern about the scepticism and mistrust that many americans have expressed about the covid nineteen vaccines mostly because they were developed so quickly borel says he hopes the completion of the election and the magnitude of the and safety data. Start to reassure people. The problem is that this vaccine and the pandemic in general became the focal point of political debate. He says it was discussed and political rather than scientific terms. We reached unthinkable point. That wearing a mask is a political statement. Which i think is wrong. Wearing a mask is something you need to do because science is telling you to do it. He noted that in an effort to reassure the public about the scientific integrity of the vaccine development and testing process vaccine makers in the pharmaceutical industry came together in an unprecedented show of support against political pressure. By pledging to stick to scientific standards and nothing else myself. I released a lot of letters saying i will never succumb to any political pressure. He says the only pressure we feel adviser is the pressure. Seven billion people around the world are giving us solution to this. Pandemic vaccine makers are a little less united on the question of whether they should profit from a pandemic shot while some have said they will price their vaccines so they don't profit from them. Borlase says pfizer is making its vaccine available on a non for profit basis only for lower income countries receiving vaccines through the world health organization vaccine distribution coalition. Run by gaffey. We have elected for developed countries to give the vaccine at a very low price around nineteen dollars fifty cents. We believe the price allows governments all over the world to give the vaccine free to their citizens he says if you think about the economic value of vaccine. I'm not speaking about the human value because there is no way to measure human life. I think the millions of jobs that will not be lost that hopefully will come back and the billions and economic value. That a successful vaccine will enable. I think it's not appropriate to discuss if we sell it at nineteen dollars. Fifty cents per dose. Pour la would not speculate on how long the fda might take to decide on the company's e you a request but given the urgency of the pandemic. That decision could come soon. The agency will likely take into consideration the fact that the vaccines ninety. Five percent effectiveness is in protecting against cova disease not preventing infection from the virus but with cases of covid nineteen continuing to surge around the world stalling. The virus and preventing people from getting sick would be a welcome advantage. More studies will also explore whether people who don't become sick because they are vaccinated are less likely to spread infection. If that's the case then the vaccines will be even more critical for controlling the pandemic. I hope the same time next year we will be in a very very different place. He says when you have vaccine protection that is that high ninety five percent. For example. The effectiveness level pfizer's vaccine is shown in studies. It takes less time to be able to develop protection through vaccination scheme. So i truly believe the light at end of the tunnel is not only real but it is bright and is coming. We need to be patient.

The results will be analyzed after six months to determine if the children receiving the vaccine both generated a stronger immune response than those getting placebo and that the response was on par with responses vaccinated adults. If that's the case then finds her bio intech will submit the data to the us food and drug administration to expand authorization to younger children and hopefully start vaccinating them by early next year. Dr manual walter professor of pediatrics and chief medical officer at the human vaccine institute who has overseeing the trial there says the study will answer important questions about the safety and dosing of the vaccine for children specifically whether younger children will need a different dose than adolescents and adults. The trial will test dose about one third that of the current adult dose another. That is about half the adult dose as well as the adult does while the pfizer bio tech covid. Nineteen shot is the. I m are innate technology based vaccine of any kind to gain fda authorization. Walter says it's likely to be safe in children. I don't think it's the platform so much that i would worry about for young children. I feel comfortable. Giving the ima- rene to young children. The questions of will they have side effects. Will the vaccine be tolerable to children and do. We need to use a smaller dose. In young kids are the biggest things so far. Walter says that they have seen an overwhelming response to the pediatric trial with parents. Like the gerardo expressing interest in enrolling their children both gerardo and his wife who is an infectious disease physician at duke are vaccinated and he says before his daughter is joined the trial they discussed volunteering with the girls. They understand that the results are going to impact other kids. And that's one of the lessons. We want to teach them with this experience. He says that this was one of the ways to contribute to help other people.

COVID-19 Vaccines Work. Heres the Real-World Proof

"Brought to you by hotseat. A new memoir from jeff immelt the former. Ceo of general electric. Raw honest intimate. Hotseat is that. And more as emily recounts like to be a leader in of crisis. Preorder your copy of hot seat now wherever books are sold covid nineteen vaccines work. Here's the real world proof by alice. Park it's one thing to test a vaccine and another to see it in action in the real world more than two months after the first vaccines were authorized in the uk and us. Strong data have emerged showing that the shots are doing what they are supposed to protect people from covid nineteen and a study published february twenty fourth in the new england journal of medicine researchers and israel and the us report that the vaccine made by pfizer bio intech was highly effective in protecting against infection with the covid nineteen virus lowering people's chances of getting sick and the disease especially severe disease and dropping covid nineteen hospitalization rates. The data says mark lips itch professor of epidemiology at harvard t h chan school of public health and co author of. The paper are close to the best possible. News and a separate pre print study published in the lancet on february nineteenth. That hasn't yet been peer reviewed. Health officials in scotland also reported that vaccination with either the pfizer bio tech or astrazeneca shot was helping to lower hospitalization rates due to covid nineteen in the country. Those results were especially encouraging. They said because they showed that even a single dose of either vaccine was eighty five to ninety four percents effective in reducing covid nineteen hospitalization within a little more than a month after the first shot. The recommended doses. Two shots either vaccine. The findings are a real world. Harbinger of what the world can expect as more people get vaccinated and threw up a wall of immunity against the virus. Israel may lead the way in providing hints of where the pandemic is headed with a unique nationally coordinated system for vaccinating people and a tight connection between who gets the shots and their health records. The country is a scientists ideal study group and the new england journal of medicine study researchers included data from nearly six hundred thousand vaccinated people and compared them to a similarly sized group of people who hadn't gotten the vaccine after two doses. The vaccine it turned out was ninety. Two percent effective in preventing infection and among those who did get infected ninety two percents effective and protecting against covid nineteen symptoms ninety two percents effective and protecting against severe disease and eighty seven percent effective and protecting people from needing hospitalization for covid. Nineteen the results mirror. Those found by pfizer and biotech in their late stage. Study of forty four thousand people which also showed the vaccine could dramatically reduce the risk of covid nineteen illness especially severe disease but having real world data further. Bolsters that effectiveness data and could go a long way toward addressing some of the reluctance people feel about getting the shot because it was developed and tested so quickly as encouraging as the results are lips. Says they still don't answer an important question about the protection that vaccines provide how long that protection or immunity lasts. We still don't know how good that vaccine is three months out or he says that's the unique situation in israel may also shed some light in coming months if similar studies continue researchers can monitor any changes in vaccinated people's antibody levels and get an idea of weather protection against the covid virus waning or remain. Strong there is lots of reason to believe that. It's going to be good based on what we know about immunology and the durability of immune responses to vaccines he says bought more data will be needed to confirm that.

Breaking Down What COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Means

Breaking Down What COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Means

"Breaking down what covid. Nineteen vaccine effectiveness means by alice. Park the us now has three safe and effective covid nineteen vaccines being shipped around the country and making it into people's arms all meet the us food and drug administration's threshold for protecting people from cova nineteen disease yet. Two of them are about ninety. Five percent efficacious while another is sixty six percent efficacious. Which may make tempting to rank them and assume that people receiving the sixty six percent efficacious shot are somehow less protected against covid nineteen. That's not the case however since it's not really possible to compare the vaccines to each other to start. There's a difference between efficacy and effectiveness. Efficacy refers to the results for how well a drug or vaccine works based on testing while effectiveness refers to how well these products work in the real world and a much larger of people most people however use them interchangeably. Next it's important to understand what these companies were actually measuring to come up with their efficacy numbers and the case of the covid nineteen vaccines. The researchers were measuring. How well they're vaccines protected against symptoms of covid nineteen. So they're vaccine efficacy numbers referred to how well they lowered people's chance of getting sick with covid nineteen pfizer by owen. Tech's vaccine is ninety. Five percent efficacious meaning that four vaccinated people it was ninety five percent efficacious and protecting people from getting covid nineteen symptoms. It does not mean that ninety five percent of people vaccinated won't get covid nineteen and five percent will similarly maderna's vaccine is ninety four percent efficacious. So it was ninety four percent efficacious in protecting people from covid nineteen and johnson. And johnson's vaccine is sixty six percent efficacious in doing the same. But that doesn't tell the whole story for a few reasons. First the vaccines work in different ways. Visor bio intech and madonna developed their vaccines using 'em in a technology which involves taking the genetic code for the spike protein of the sars covy to virus and encasing it in a fat based particle that is injected into the body once inside sales those viral genes instruct immune cells to produce copies of the protein which in turn switches the immune system. Interaction churning out sells like antibodies among other activities if the vaccinated person then gets infected with the actual virus. The body is ready to quickly. Produce those same antibodies that can stick to the virus and block it from infecting cells. Johnson and johnson janssen's vaccine uses a different strategy a weakened cold virus that has reprograms to include the code for the spike protein. Once inside the body the viral genes trigger a similar dedicated response against the virus because vaccines use different ways. To alert the immune system. The differing technologies could lead to varying degrees of efficacy second each vaccine has different dosing. Regimens visor bio intex and modernise shots require two doses in pfizer bio intex case. The two shots are one days apart. And in maderna's case they are twenty eight days apart. Janssen's vaccine is a single shot. Pfizer bio intech and madonna say. Their shots can stimulate the immune system after a single dose. But the second dose is needed to trigger the maximum response. Janssen's scientists are also testing a booster dose of their vaccine to see if it to might amplify the immune response third the vaccine companies started recording covid nineteen symptoms at different times after vaccination to see how well their shots could prevent disease and their respective late stage studies visor bio intech started recording symptoms seven days after people received the second shot of its vaccine or placebo. Madonna started fourteen days after the second dose and jansen recorded results from both fourteen days in twenty eight days after it single dose for the vaccines were tested at different times. that's important because of the genetic variants of the virus some of which are more infectious than the original that have emerged in recent months after some companies had already completed initial testing of their vaccines visor bio intech and modern up. Both tested their shots through most of twenty twenty. When sars cov two had not mutated as much so most of the study participants who are infected. Were infected by the same viral strain. Johnson however started its large phase three trial in september and included people in the uk south africa and brazil the three countries where new mutated variants of the virus started to spread quickly. Indeed many of the people in janssen's trial in those countries were infected with the new variants from a scientific point of view that means janssen study provided important clues about how well its vaccine could confront the growing threat of new variants of the virus. That could also explain why the janssen vaccine's efficacy is lower than those of the pfizer bio intech and maternal shots. In fact studies have since shown that among people vaccinated with pfizer biontech and moderna vaccines level of antibodies against the south african. Variant in particular are up to sixfold lower compared to levels against the non mutated virus. So for all of these reasons comparing the three vaccines is a bit like comparing apples to oranges. What's important is that all fight covid. Nineteen according to the fda's standard of efficacy. Which is that vaccines should be. At least fifty percent efficacious and protecting people from disease and all are extremely effective in protecting people from getting severely ill willed or dying from nineteen which ultimately is what we'd won't any vaccine to do.

There won't be enough shots for the general population until spring so doses will be rationed at least for the next several months. The panel members are leaning toward putting essential workers next in line because people like bus drivers grocery store clerks and others are the ones getting infected most often but other experts say people sixty five and older should be next along with people with certain medical conditions because those are the americans who are dying at the highest rates the expert panel's advice is almost always endorsed by the us centers for disease control and prevention. No matter what the cdc says there will be differences from state to state because their health departments have different ideas about who should be closer to the front of the line.
