"I mean, they had a live band playing and you know they have tons of TVs and they've got all the games on and their sports betting there and so if you lived close to a casino like that or within an hour or two, I would say maybe I'll just go there like that's fine you know four or 5 times a year instead of a big trip today. That's fine if that's all you want. And I think for most people that wouldn't be enough. You know, most people want to ride that roller coaster and New York New York. That's the big draw. Yeah, they got it. That's the big draw. Well, Mike, we have made our reservations for biloxi. I assume you have two because on the last episode, I said I'd be hounding you. Yeah, well I talked to the host at diamond Joe yesterday and she said for me to email her all the specifics. At diamond Joe. Avoid property. 'cause I can stay at the boy property. Oh, well, that is true. Can they fly you there though? Well, she was checking on that. Really? Now you're being serious here. No, I'm serious. Okay. I was just going to give you a hard time. That's something that I'm going to have to research a little bit. She said, but sometimes instead of flying you, they'll just give you the cost. Oh, like a voucher or something or like just reimburse you or something like that. Reimburse you in free player, let's say your flight costs just 600 bucks. They're going to give you $600 extra free play or whatever. Well, gosh, Mike, that would be great because the Boyd property in biloxi is IP, that's where Tim Lawson is going to be staying. I think you'd enjoy it more than hair is, you know, it's interesting because BT was talking about how his room adheres was okay, but he was kind of complaining about the casino.

"Hey, Mark. And doctor Mike BT since had nougat just wanted to call in with a double trip report that made two trips in January. One, we went to Vegas, stayed on the strip at Paris. I'd never stayed there, usually playing Hollywood, but one to try it out and absolutely loved it. Maybe I'm getting older, but the carpet just felt so good to welcome him. After you've been walking for 12 to 16 hours one day walking on patty carpet at Paris versus that hard concrete that feels like at the planet Hollywood made a big difference believe it or not. But the tables for whatever reason were cheaper at Paris. They were mostly ten and 15 versus what seemed like 15 and 25 at point of Hollywood, even at $25 baccarat all day at Paris. So we had a really good time for whatever reason tables just couldn't get hot for us, but we played slots again and one two hand pace at two different places. So I had a good time and then took a birthday trip with a buddy of mine down to the Luxe for the first time. We did stay at Harris because that's where the comps are asked for us and we had a different experience with the room than you had. We actually got the elevator noticed how clean it did smell it's almost like they had just shampooed the carpets. The rooms were typical room, not awful, not great. Just be able to okay, room was clean. No real gripes, nothing surprising there. But the casino there was probably one of the worst casinos I think I've been in. It was just like being in somebody's basement that had a big basement full of some gaming devices. Once you go out to Beau rodge and hard rock and you see what they have to offer, I just can not see staying in gambling at Harris there. So that was a little disappointing, but overall we absolutely fell in love with biloxi, maybe more than Vegas just because we can drive there. It's 7 hours from Chattanooga. Tables were cheaper. People were nice. The local theme there were a lot of nice bars we went to, a lot of restaurants, people were nice. Overall, we had an amazing trip. I will say while we were there at the golden nugget, which we also loved, the guy at the table next to his blackjack won the progressive. He had two ace of spades and then the dealer had an ace of spades turned up and he won the jackpot at $418,000. So that was pretty exciting to be a part of to be able to see that. Oddly enough, the guy only left a $100 tip afterwards. You guys have been talking about tipping a lot lately. And we found out actually through the dealers, we stayed there for several hours and to do this for Thomas, that they couldn't believe the only a $100. Lot to see your thoughts on that. Personally, I would think somewhere around 5000 would be a good tip for a win at that. Yeah, you got cut off there. Mike, you were telling me that you got like a round of applause or something from I'm going to save that for the end, Mark. You're going to tell us how a story. It has to do with tipping. Well, tipping people who gambled with me. Okay. That's the whole story. Oh, yeah, you'll have a big story here at the end. You know what BT would like now? What's that? BT would like to go to the flamingo because there's like about 6 to 8 inches of dirt and sand under that carpet. So comfort. But no spilled drinks. Just dirty. And desert saying that he was saying that. It is true though.

"All right, well, on our last episode, we got a call from Nathan who was confused as to how he got a pretty good offer from Venetian when he's never played it Venetian before. And that kind of sparked a conversation about do casinos share information with each other about players, which I think is unlikely, but Mike you had been told by hosts that this does happen. If that is the case, is that legal. Anyway, we got an email from Ian who had something similar happen to him. He said, I'm a recreational gambler and usually play at relatively low stakes. So I rarely get much attention from the players clubs. This past December, I had a monster session at an independent casino in Vegas, where I ended up winning a bunch of money, about 8000. A host contacted me and told me that they had me down for $500 a hand and basically wanted to know when I would be back. I came back in early January and played similarly large, and this time lost similarly large. Again, host contacted me and showed me some love. I got back to Florida where I live, and by mid January, Caesar's was sending me a lot of incentives, $300 gift card offer, $300 free play, et cetera. I logged into my Caesar's account and was able to book a room at nobu. That's at Caesar's palace. Over a weekend for free, which has never happened before. I'm also getting Caesar's heir and M life offers to go to biloxi in Atlantic City for free. The thing is, I haven't played it as Caesar's property for years. I used to be diamond, but I got that through status matching. I also got the three free nights at Venetian offer that caller Nathan was talking about. I have literally never gambled at Venetian. So yeah, either of these properties are suddenly flush with cash and wanting to give it away or someone's sharing info somewhere.

"Up enough. Sorry. I think Jeff was just saying, please don't try to engine re-engineer those things at home. I don't know. Not a microwave anyway. Microwave, go down, get you into one stick it in there. All right, I've got another one here that actually particularly speaks to my experience. Also, Jay white and there can help us with this one. My family and I live out in the country. I have set up an outside antenna having about 30 feet in the air and still not getting good signal strength. Some of the pine trees are about 50 to 60 feet tall from growing over the years. The antenna has about 80 to a hundred mile range, also a booster connected is it possible to go even higher in the air, say about 50 feet and is that safe or possible. Thank you hope to hear response. I'll start with saying you can always go higher with an antenna and most likely get better reception. Unless you're just in the wrong place. Now there's something that was not mentioned here. Most antennas proper antennas are directional, actually. It's not just a stick up in the air. It kind of points in a direction. If you live, say, let's say the TV station you're watching is in biloxi. And you want to watch that. Let's say you're an hour north of that. You're going to point your directional television antenna south or wherever that television antenna is. For example, the Gulf Coast MPB towers are in Wiggins, which is a good ways north. Of the coastline, actually. So you're going to have to have a clear shot of the north sky. That's going to be impeded to a certain extent. And the same thing on cell phone. And we had a client we were working with on this. I had this experience in Raymond. We're kind of in a hole. And I literally I don't know. I literally took an old rake with an extension on it. Genius. That's genius. And put my cell phone booster on the rake. And so, and then there's an app on your phone that tells you where the towers are. And I pointed it toward that tower and I'll tell you this. And then the lightning bolt came down. But yeah, literally if you drive into our property, you see this rake attached. I love it. Oh, I love it. With my cell thing on it. It works so much better in the winter. Really? Yeah, because in the leaves on the tree. Okay, yeah, that's true. And I've been trying to think, how could I get this sucker hard? I guess she would have to hire maybe a flag pole company to come out and get you a really tall town. This guy's talking as we got 50 to 60 feet tall pine trees. You can get some on the climb. Use the pine tree. Put it in the top of the palm tree. Lots of people. Well, lots of people use tall trees to apply antennas. Oh yeah, see at all. Before you do that, make sure you're pointing it in the right direction. Because you might not have to do that. She mentioned Raymond, if you live in the Jackson metropolitan area, all the big towers for all the rating on TV stations are down in Raymond, which is to the extreme, far southwest. South and portion of the metropolitan area. So you've got to have a good shot of that sky and depending on what part of the town you live in and if you live down in a hole, there might be stuff, there might be elevated area that blocks you from a clear shot of that part of town and it might you might have to go up in a pine tree then. Right. Yeah, that's our problem. We're up on the side of your house, depending on how many floors your house has. Then you can look at something like that too, but get somebody else to do that. Don't be hanging off your third floor. I bought me a rack and I mean a little bracket. Anyway, the rake is on the side of the house and so far it seems to be working pretty good. All right, one last question. So right now. Hang on. Yeah, I had it now. We're using it for an antenna. Yeah. You can get the leaves, but you can't talk on the phone at the same time. Okay, one real quick thing. Another email. I was told I have hail damage on my roof, a neighbor said no one seems to get around the chimney right. Is there a roofing one O one? Gene and Raymond. Roofing one O one. I hope that doesn't mean I'm going to go up there and fix that flashing. Because if that's your idea and you've not been on a roof to do this before, stop. Well, don't get a letter out. This is where a lot of people have a misconception of what's going on. I have roof damage. I call an inspector absolutely you have rift damage. I found my claim. You have roof damage, bam, bam, bam. No one ever said you had flashing issues. Insurance is not going to pay for that flashing if it is war out because of anything other than weather related. And the flashing is the thing around the chimney. Right. So that's a good one. But I still have a leak. Well, did you pay for new flashing? No. No. And that's why I tell my clients, talk to the roofer, upgrade the new flashing. That's what I did on my roof. There you go. Absolutely. All right, fix it one on one as a production of Mississippi public broadcasting think radio and it's funded by the generous contributions from listeners like you,

"That's what this was for me. I think what's interesting too about this activity is it reminds me a little bit of doing a vision board, but I think what's different about this is that you're like vision boards are fun and great, but you're not always necessarily also visually depicting what you feel like is holding you back. It's very future focused. Like I want this and this, I want to bring more peace, you know, all these things, but it's kind of floating out in the space and it's important I think as you were saying for our brain to acknowledge this is what's in front of me right now getting in the way of that. So I think that's part of what makes it really powerful. Yeah. And one thing I've noticed, and this is not true for all people, but when people are only focused on the future, they become dreamers. And not doers. And so this was a way to not only keep that dream of life, but recognize that there needs to be a doing in that process. Like what's holding you back and remind yourself what you're going to do to overcome it. And so my biggest advice for everyone as they're doing this is don't get caught up on the barrier. That's why the barrier is the smallest part of this entire painting, drawing, pencil, whatever modality you're using. That's why that's as small as. You want to stay focused on where you're going, but recognize that there are going to be barriers, but that you are strong enough to achieve it. Do we want to share? I think maybe Richard has a picture of mine. So I did this ahead of time so that we'd have time to share. But mine is, it's kind of a mix. It's like collage colored pencil, watercolor, there's mix of things, and if you're listening and not watching the background or the barrier for me is a computer because I spend a lot of my time I work remote, which is such a blessing. But there are times where that becomes a barrier to me having time to be outside, which is where I feel the most refreshed and connected to God and so I collage my keyhole on top of that computer and it's kind of like a view of the water we live in biloxi and so we're very close to the beach. So it was really interesting because I don't feel totally like I get to do amazing things in the work that I do, but it's also maybe not enough balance of the other piece of getting time to just be outside. Yeah. It's beautiful. It really is beautiful. All right, I guess I got to share it. It's your turn. Okay, so if you can see inside the keyhole was me on stage in front of a great audience of people packed show and on the outside is a bed and me sleeping and resting and dreaming and not actualizing the dream by physically getting up and doing something. And then I wrote an acrostic poem to accompany the image and the word going down is keyhole. And there is the poem. Keeping time with my dreams of endless nights and stage lights. Yelling and screaming applause, beams of halos blinding my eyes from sight. Ovations unzipped at the seams of love and measured and treasured height, enveloping inspiration is unlocked. I catch a gleam of an opened keyhole vision to my future life. That's beautiful. I love that. It's a beautiful you are a visual artist. If you're listening and not watching, you need to watch the episode because vocab your artwork. That's amazing. Very, very, very much. For that affirmation, it's cool trying to create. I guess 'cause I used to watch project runway and they would talk to them about creating your own personal textile and so like creating a pattern of some sort. I think for people who are not, they don't think that their drawers, they don't think that they are painters, find a way to create a pattern in your work that you can have reoccur. That might help you unless you're just like, I'm doing straight up abstract. And everything's going to be seemingly arbitrary. But that helped me to be like, oh, I'll just do a whole bunch of little zs. And then to represent the sleep. And that'll be effective. It's totally effective because it created that barrier that sense of a barrier. So really. And one thing I love about this exercise, all the exercises, and art in general. Let me just say art is amazing because it becomes our voice. And I know I've mentioned to you previously of I am not an emotional person. I used to joke around. Like, I'm not all about that feeling stuff. But when you're going through not even just traumas, but when you're trying to create a dream, make that dream happen, you have to figure out how to voice those emotions, whether it's to a therapist or to yourself, and for me, I don't always have the words to express what I'm feeling, to express what challenges I'm having or how happy I am. And so art becomes that art becomes my language of expression. Because I could take some of those thoughts that maybe I don't have words for, maybe I have just like images ahead of what it kind of looks like. And I could put that into my piece. Of a way to really express what I'm really feeling deep down. Yeah, and I want to hear more about your artistic process because you do create some really amazing things. We're going to take a quick break and then we'll come back and hear about that. I'm being asked to lean in. We are determined to part the most tragic moving art broken glass everywhere crystal knock no crystal there lit creed everywhere. "Welcome to the song and travel podcast on my list. Mock sent me biloxi Mississippi. I never been here, so but he sent me some places that he thought was great. So he also sent me some restaurants, he also sent me some comments people made, which I find very interesting. So I don't know if he was if he's like a travel agent or is he someone who travels then go and you know how they ask people what they thought about where, you know, how was it? I don't know, but thank you, Mark. I'll speak about it like I said, I never been here. I never been to Mississippi, so no part of Mississippi have I ever been to. So, but I'll tell you and I'll tell you what he's, you know, he says some people, the stuff some people say. So is the biloxi beach is one place he said is very beautiful. And it's a great place for to walk and it's a lot of friendly people there. He also said there are nearby restaurants. One is infinity buffet. The waffle House. Hookah. What is this? What? Oh, who got up cafe? So that's places you can actually eat. Yeah, you can eat. It's a place called blue, he said. Then there's also the firehouse subs. Okay. Okay. And he said there's also a Taco Bell. He said, you can also go on Mississippi coast for attractions. The treasure bay. The aquarium, the institute for aquarium. He said there's land metals, children, museum, and there's the biloxi bay bridge is also a visitor center in bile. The arenas. Stadiums are MGM pop Lexi lighthouse, there's beautiful rigid casinos. Okay, so that's some places he named. And he gave me the what people thought somebody said the water is a cesspool alligator swim there as well. Nice with pictures only said that it's nice for pictures. Another person's a great beach for terrific walks where one meets. Maybe it's just a southern hospitality. Another one to say nice walking beach except lots of little like looking at the boats near the casinos and hotels. It's lots of homelessness situation. Then another person, the weather, for the most part, was nice. We did a shrimp boat tour and had a great time. We also did a walk through the mall and that was a good that was good also. Oh, thank you, Mark. So yes, people if y'all want to go to biloxi, Mississippi. Y'all can go. Like I said, I never been there, so. But the fact that he thought it was a great place, and he also gave me comments from other people thoughts. Thank you, Mark. I really appreciate it. Like I said, I appreciate it when y'all give me things and tell me things. He said the food is great. Buffet. He also said that is, you know, the prices are okay. He sent me pictures. So I'll post a picture. The historical site is being involved, be a void. I think I'm pronouncing it right. I'm not sure if I'm pronouncing it, right? But I think that's what it is. But like I said, I post pictures for y'all post the pictures he gave, he gave him me. I mean, he gave me, I'm sorry. He gave me I posted. If you want, like I said, if you like to go to Mississippi, I say this again, I never been there, so I can't tell you from experience holidays. So, but if you like to go and thank you again, Mark. Please give this a 5 star. Thank you also for listening to his podcast because he was already once speaking to our heart rate. Where.

"You know, I don't want to keep the sand as going, Chris. But you're going to. But I have to because this is one of the crazy stupid things that men do. And everybody listening out there and even probably the women listening probably do crazy stupid stuff too. We all have this one thing that just you can't explain, right? Right. It just did. So and I know I talked about this on the show years ago. Probably should save this for the remembrance. But when I won my very first poker tournament, it was the grand casino of biloxi back back in the day, and I don't know when it was probably 1718 years ago. It was before the show. Before we started the show, so it's been a while now. I was so excited that I bought myself a mailbox. Quite certain I'm the only poker player to have ever used the money from his first poker tournament to buy a mailbox. You saw like Ross on Friends when they're talking about what they're going to do with the millions when they win the lottery. And he's like, I'll probably invest it. You win all this money in your first thought is mailbox. What the hell is that? I can't even remember the mailbox that we had before, but I must not liked it to the point that I wanted custom mailbox. So I went, there was a company in town. In fact, I actually owned by a poker player at the time. And they made custom mailboxes. So they carved our address in it and painted a two tone. It wasn't fancy with it. It was my trophy. That's what I call it. My poker trophy, right? Yeah. And so once probably a good ten years ago, you know, is it prone to be the post rotted? And I cried. And don't take away my trophy. And so the guy came over and he was like, well, I'm not in the business anymore, but he's like, you figure out a way to save it. He just put a different post on it and put it back up, and I'm like, thank you. Well, rotted away again. Oh no. This week I went out to get the mail and I'm like, what the fuck? I'm leaving that in. Three shows left. Who's gonna stop us? I mean, it looked like somebody ran it over, but then I looked at him and went up this post just brought it out and fell over. And so I had a handyman come over and take a look at it and all my he's like, you just want to go buy another one before he came over and I'm like, I will. I really hope you can save it. And then so he called me out when he looked at and he's like, man, he's like, it's not just the posts right. They're like, everything is rotted. I'm like, I can try to do something, but it's not gonna last. And.

"Constant holding my light. There will be power ties. Until i do my work to say no more no more like but i can only do that by going through the desert by just sitting in moments where you feel deserted you feel alone. You don't feel like anybody's got your back. You you have to go through that and then you know. It's amazing how god led us to phoenix. But even just the mythology of phoenix like rising up like just just the stripping away this this preparing us for. What's next the stirring. There's something that that process is really really humid and beautiful. Yeah do you see. God and things like the phoenix tie. Do you see him. Because i'm like real charismatic. My soul so anything like that. That feels like god loves me is by letting me see him. Show up and things like that. Did you feel that when y'all move to phoenix. Definitely i mean. The way that we got to phoenix. I mean i. I remember just waking up in the middle of the night and just kind of felt this impression upon my spirit like where god was saying. Go to the desert and wait for instructions. And i was thinking like metaphorical exactly are to biloxi or shreve quarter. You know i. I don't know where we're headed. But as i got up that like probably three three thirty guide my journal and i just started like writing and i think in my mind i was kind of was built on this mentality of. Everything's up into the right so what was better than chicago. Okay i started thinking about these cities. And i felt like i just said you can't grieve your way you can achieve your way out of this. You can only grieve your way through it and asked you can't achieve your way out of this. She can only grieve your way through it. And i didn't have muscles for grieving. I had muscles for achieving so the next morning. I'm making coffee for sarah and sarah. Just i kind of share. With what i felt like i had heard and experience and she just teared up and she said I in the same thing. I just wanna go home. And she's from arizona so it was like okay we're moving to arizona and so to move there to a place where it's hot too and i just. I started reading all the desert. Mothers and fathers any books that i could get on. You know in eugene peterson. Talks about this. Like your topography. Is your theology. It shapes shapes and forms or the yeah just like interferes with the eager to the holy land and they'll talk about like there's five gospels which now sounds heretical but humi you know matthew mark luke. John in the land of experienced the land. The other four make sense. That was true for me. Exactly you know so. So it's a sense of like okay. This place this base like is meaningful for your formation and development. And so i've just been trying to learn as much as i can because everything in my life and everything my spirit has been try to bypass the desert and you realize you flip to the scriptures. We're desert people. It's character school character formation. And so for me. That's getting in touch with the pain. And so if you've been hurt like whether in a relationship whether with a church whether with a leader i me i'm so sorry and but don't be afraid of those emotions Sit with surrender them. Be honest with them human Getting touch with them It's been a real gift from me. They had the who when you say desert mothers and fathers. Who should we read that. We're not reading it. Does that mean that's a really good question and my dad loves some people. Say that I so i started a ton of thomas merton i know there's probably like not necessarily a desert father per se. There's a whole bunch of older ones. But i felt like it was the easiest one to kind of like get in with some of the thoughts and feelings and Just the awareness you get to some of the these desert mothers and fathers end like you're like man their view on sin. Their view wants to build their life. Some of it was like man this is. This is such a different reality. But i learned so much about holiness. I learned so much about Sanctification words that in my context and the church that had been a part of had been almost pushed to the side. Yeah we don't talk about those very much right right and so i think just trying to bring those back and that's that that was even. The heart of the book is like trying to get people to understand what sanctifying grace is all about To help people see like this is actually good for our souls is good for being good for bodies is good for a mind and our hearts. Yeah i've a friend who calls it. Salty grace yes. I love that. I thought man that feels when he said that to me is that feels so true. That grace never feels like smooth. Yeah it always feels grainy in challenging. And it's so hard because grace grace will find you and that's usually what we preach. But the truth is is gonna find you out and grace will be relentless in trying to help become whole holy and spiritual healthy and it's but we i think those those second third versions of grace is on us to receive and welcome that and invite that in for many of us really want to get to heaven. Yeah you know i don. I don't want that right now. Yeah and i just want it to stop hurting exactly exactly everything. Here is stop hurting. You say the interesting thing about as being desert people. I was sitting with walking with an engaged couple to their marriage..

"Hurricane ida was brutal to louisiana but she battered mississippi as well mississippi experienced flash floods in at least two deaths from the storm and as of today tens of thousands are still without power. The pandemic is also exacting a heavy toll on the state. Only forty six percent of mississippi residents are fully vaccinated and because the state already operates with a critical shortage of doctors and nurses. The pandemic has brought the state's healthcare system to the brink of collapse. A neither lee is a reporter for the sun. Herald based in biloxi mississippi. Anita welcome to the show get back. Thank you for having me. You did some reporting from the areas that were flooded by ida. What did you see out there. Well some businesses Had water in them. A lot of people had to evacuate their homes of rehab one hundred sixty four homes damaged forty two destroyed but It was encouraging to see that many people's homes were okay because they are elevated now. Hurricane katrina was a storm that we had sixteen years to the day earlier and After that storm it the entire mississippi coastline was destroyed katrina and many people elevated their homes so the water was under houses and people were Going in and out and robots and giving to their houses it. I it seems like mississippi learned some really important structural and planning lessons from katrina and that and that ida hit mississippi in some ways that were similar to how katrina hit right that it was a water event rather than a with louisiana. You had the issue of the levies. Which wasn't what had happened in the context of mississippi right the winds here were for the most part tropical storm strength might have had some hurricane gusts in in hancock county which is the county neighboring louisiana but most of the damage we had here was water now. Talked me about the other disaster which is underlying so katrina was a worse hurricane but obviously There was no a global pandemic going sixteen years ago. How has cova. Nineteen impacted The state In the broadest sense. And maybe also really an and trying to prepare recover from ada. Well you know. It is very stressful. You out when you. I think about it near watching a storm out in the gulf. And you're thinking about evacuating you don't normally have to think about a deadly virus. But you do in these circumstances so all. The shelters had masking and social distancing requirements. And we have a pretty serious pandemic here. We have the third highest level of bob. Kobe transmission in the country right now and the the kobe risk is high across the whole united states but in that context i we're number three as as as number of cases per capita. Go right. now we're also the thirdly stub vaccinated state in the nation. The falen spree strong that we got some good covert spread. probably going during the pandemic. when i'm out reporting. I see very few people wearing masks here. People just don't seem to be taking this too seriously there are som- but but it's the minority who who were wearing masking transmission is high and i was just in mississippi in july just briefly driving through to to new orleans and it was you know definitely the lease masks state that we move through one more question here with the power out our kids in the state out of school again. Yes they were. I'm not sure what the situation is with schools today but we do Prior sales. I'm getting our powers restored fairly quickly. So we we had one hundred thirty six customers without power on the mississippi coast during and after the storm that's in south mississippi and we had Only thirty seven thousand without power by yesterday afternoon so the power is coming back here. We have a long of louisiana residents coming over here to get gas and filling barrels with gas to take home. Because i could find the gas over there. So there's been some conflict with bat on the border counties because people over here afraid they won't have any gas It's it's just a lot worse than always zana right. Now thank you so much. Anita lee reporter for the sun. Herald based in biloxi mississippi. Thank you now. Onto new york city were the takeaways produced. And even though. I'm down here in north carolina. This one hits hard for us late last night. As hurricane ida barreled into nyc mayor bill de blasio declared a state of emergency. The city saw record levels of rainfall which led to flooding in the streets. Subways emergency flash flood warnings. A travel ban and sadly multiple fatalities part of new jersey also sought torrential storms and tornadoes. Along with flash flooding with me now is the host of wnyc's morning edition. Michael hill michael. How you doing some okay. It was a rough commute this morning. I'll tell you that I was coming up the garden. State parkway in an uber and Before we got onto highway my driver had to dodge several abandoned cars at an intersection. That flooded overnight. So it's it's been rough here all night long but we are a clear and calm this morning and sunny and it looks like nothing ever happened until you start digging deeper and look at the subways. Look at the city look at new jersey and so forth and again considered that people died in flooded basements in new york city. One person died in a flooded car in passaic new jersey so There may be even more casualties to come. It feels like this came out of nowhere. It felt like folks were really surprised. All my new york city friends were like whoa. You know we thought there'd be rain but we didn't expect this. Were you taking back. I think we all were I think the forecast was for some really heavy rainfall overnight gusty winds even a gale warning that was in place until six o'clock last night and we had flash flood warnings What hit us from. Ida was was We got walloped. I mean let. Let's just face. it was really bad. areas here that Were the grounds were saturated last week from honoree and so forth and they had record rainfall last week. Well even those records that were set last week were broken with this storm overnight. There are some places the got two to three to four inches within an hour or two newark airport. For instance had a major issues. They would shut down all of the service there and it was later. Restored this morning but we're talking about. We got really whacked with this. "Casey will be back on Monday, little under the weather, but he's going to be just just fine. I've got another little snippet from Dr Fauci that we've got to pay attention to. And then Yep, I'm going to talk to you a little bit. About this. We're a sheet of Taleb character. What a real agenda is in quite frankly what the real agenda is at play when you take a look at the uber leftists. I mean, there was a time quite frankly. Oh, yeah, Democrats. We have Republicans and everybody fundamentally Kind of played right along the middle right. Democrats were a little bit more interested in government Republicans a little less interested in government programs, but also calling for Private people like you. Private organizations like your church to be involved, but fundamentally plead right around the middle. Not the case anymore. Oh, my gosh, not the case. Now we are very much seeing on full display. This uber left agenda. We'll talk about, uh, was she had to leave in just a moment. Let me let me share this other little clip from Dr Fauci. Let's talk about a specific here. We know Mississippi is one of the lowest. I believe it's the lowest vaccinated has the lowest vaccinated race rate in the country. You are in Biloxi, Mississippi. Right now, Dr Fauci, would you be wearing a mask? You're fully vaccinated. But would you be wearing a mask in Biloxi, Mississippi? Think there would be a good reason to do that. I mean, because there as we've said so often that vaccines are not even as good as they are and highly effective. Nothing is 100%. And if you put yourself in an environment in which you have a high level of viral dynamics and a very low level of vaccine, you might want to go the extra step and say when I'm in that area. There's a considerable degree of viral circulation. I might want to go the extra mile to be cautious enough to make sure that they get the extra added level of protection, even though The vaccines themselves are highly effective. I'm hold on the extra mile. I thought the whole reason. That I got the vaccine was so that I didn't have to wear masks. You do need to know something about me, though. I've always thought People are dirty. I'm the guy that when all of this happened I already had big bottles of Purell on my desk. I had two of them. Why? Because I don't want to shake hands. I am firmly convinced that everybody's got some sort of a disease. I'm not a German Fulk, but I just don't really like germs. So I didn't have any problem. I said, Hey, you're not going to shake hands anymore, although I continue to shake hands, But then I got my pure al and I are doing this. I don't have any problem of everybody is double mast and triple gloved. I thought the whole point of us doing this vaccine getting the vaccine, whichever one you got was so that the real world could open up again. Now doctor found she wants to tell me I'll, By the way, Remember? I used to be against masks that I was in favor of masks well now against them, But I'm still in favor of them. Look, you got to pick a side dude, and I don't really care which side it is. Just pick a side. I guess the side he's picked. Is the everybody's got to wear a mask. Don't think I'm going along with that. And I don't think I'm alone. Look at my circle of friends. Some of whom absolutely are terrified of this and others who from the beginning of said I don't think I can be terrified of this. And I've always been somewhere in the middle. Part of it has to do with the fact that my mom was a nurse. Right. So I get infectious diseases. I get the whole Methodology behind it. I understand a certain amount of the virology. Not all of it, but enough to say okay, I would like to be protected. Okay? I do want to take precautions. Alright. I'm not going to take unnecessary risks. But you know what? That's the essence of being an adult. Every single day. You and I get up. Whatever time of the day it is that you get up. I don't care if you're up first thing in the morning or you're getting up and you're going to work an overnight shift. Whatever it is that you are doing. You get up in the morning and you then make a series of decisions. You analyze continually, the cost versus the benefit right? The risk versus the reward. You're going to get up. You're gonna walk downstairs from your bedroom. To the kitchen to get a cup of coffee you have made a risk assessment has got news for you. There are plenty of people every single year who trip going down the steps. Some of those people who trip fall a couple of steps. Some of those people who trip fall all the way down to the bottom and break a bone. Some of those people who trip and fall fall all the way down to the bottom and they die. But you and I, for the most part, have made a decision that says well. I really need my coffee or, gosh, I'm really hungry. I'm going to walk down those steps. And then you're gonna look at your floor. So you're not going to do it consciously, but you made a decision as an adult. Maybe it was based purely on looks. Well, I like the way hardwood floors. Look, Jeff, So that's what I'm going to have in my house, okay? Do you have hardwood floors, and you clean them or somebody cleans them? Right? And there's a wax involved at some point. You know what happens? Oh, your floors look really nice. They're nice and shiny. With a little slippery. Some people walk on those floors. And they can slip. Some people walk in slip and falls. Some people walk and slip and fall and break something some people walk and tripped and fall and die. But you do the calculus for yourself. And you say, May I think we're okay. Or maybe you went the opposite direction, Jeff. We got wall to wall carpeting. We don't have any risk of tripping on that highly polished floor..

"You're in Biloxi, Mississippi. Right now. Dr. Fauci, would you be wearing a mask? You're fully vaccinated. But would you be wearing a mask in Biloxi, Mississippi? I think there would be a good reason to do that, Uh, Anthony Fauci, taking questions from Chuck Todd yesterday on meet the press. I thought the mask was supposed to protect other people from you spreading the terms. Now he's saying that Even if you're fully vaccinated, you should wear the mask to protect yourself. And of course, this is the same guy who said you shouldn't wear mess at all. A year and a half ago, and by the way just last week, and now the CDC recommendations stand that if in fact you are vaccinated, only vaccinated, you are protected and you do not need to wear a mask outdoors or indoors. That was last week ever. Oh, my gosh, I'm getting whiplash that just yesterday. My Sunday You're in Biloxi, Mississippi. Right now, Dr. Fauci, Would you be wearing a mask? You're fully vaccinated. But would you be wearing a mask in Biloxi, Mississippi? I think there would be a good reason to be real good reason to Do that, by the way it meanwhile, he also said, we're going to see and I've said almost two types of America. You know those regions of America, which are highly vaccinated, and we have a low level of dynamics of infection, and in some places, some states some cities. Some areas with a level of vaccination is low in the level of virus dissemination is high. That's where you're gonna see the spy. Forget about two different Americas. We've got two different FAO cheese at any given time, and everybody says Listen to Fauci, Listen to Fauci. This is how he gets it. Done, so everybody listens and follows what Fauci says. And he says both sides of the same thing. You know, you don't have to wear a mask anymore, but I think it's a good idea that you were a mess. So now everyone is doing what Fauci says. Whether they were a master now. Well, in that case, he shouldn't be so upset about people attacking him because the few attack one Fauci are apparently free and clear with the other Fauci like Harvey debt from that man. It's too faith. He flips the coin. Heads. I win, tails you lose. And meanwhile Congressman Jim Jordan. He's not laughing about this, because, as you just heard, you've got Anthony Fauci going on meet the press to answer questions from Chuck Todd. But he refuses, and he has refused twice now to sit down and answer questions from the House of Representatives, and that's a bit of a problem. And Congressman Jim Jordan says that he believes this is because Ever since Anthony Fauci emails were made available. He has refused to answer questions under oath because, well, there's a whole lot of contradictions there in those emails. That's all I got on that. But that is a problem. Because now if he goes to answer a question, I know it sounded like I was building up to a big audio type. We're gonna have a great cut. No, you're right. Sorry about that. No, That's the problem. If he goes now, and has to answer questions under oath, he's going to have to answer. Listen a year ago, you said this to us when you were sworn in in front of this committee, and we have an email showing that you were saying something very different in private. Can you explain that? Yeah, and he hasn't had to. Really answer questions about the emails at all. The one time that he was asked about it, he was given softballs and given the opportunity to accuse people of attacking If they were attacking him, then they were also attacking science. Because apparently Fauci is, um, and science are one and the same. Right if you if you criticize me, you're criticizing science, But this I mean, you make a good point, Amber and let me just follow up because you're right. He hasn't been. He doesn't want to answer those questions for Congressman and he doesn't want Jim Jordan to ask him those questions. Why did you say this when you were when you were saying this behind closed doors? Where's Chuck? Todd? Chuck? Todd just had that golden opportunity exactly Right. And it took a couple of days, actually for the White House to even be asked about this during a press briefing with the entire White House press corps, before a reporter was willing to ask Jen Psaki about Fauci's emails. And then, of course, the White House immediately followed up by sending Falco and all of these trips with first lady Jill Biden to show that the Biden still had confidence in Dr Fauci. And it's all just become a ridiculous political game a little bit more on this in a moment and also more with Tom Fitton of Judicial Watch who's trying to get access to even more of these emails and wants to draw this out, because it's critically important that we understand exactly what we just went through and why so it never happens again. This is really hard to read flickering candlelight till eighteen hundreds. Would you like to turn on the light. No no no. We have to keep the ambiance like an old lady. We've already had discussion about my poor eyesight. Go to instagram to see me. Leaning against the map to read it to of mississippi's oldest go stories involve deer island and the surrounding waters. Deer island is a narrow four mile long strip of land that sits off the biloxi coast as a fragment of the mainland. Oh the closest into the mississippi coast deer island is easily visible from the beaches and attractions of historic galaxy. It is a rookery for the great blue heron and is maintained in its natural state as a mississippi coastal preserve. What is it a rookery. What place for birds to get it. On lay their eggs and nine different rare and or endangered species. Mostly birds live on this island. Humans visited or lived on the island for thousands of years. Ancient american indians came there to hunt gather and fish long before the birth of christ. The french arrived in seventeen seventeen by nineteen o five. Even an amusement park operated their hurricane. Camille changed all of that. Destroying manmade structures enforcing the last inhabitants to relocate to the mainland. The wisdom of the move was demonstrated by hurricane katrina in two thousand five when the water swept over the land and artificial reef built since now helped protect deer island from russian. Are there any deer on your island. No but not anymore. I can't say that there never were but they weren't swimmers wants. The water started to rise. They said no. Please let me on that boat in. Behoove them the stay there. Neither the storm's nor the retreat of human beings from the island however have eliminated to go stories that rank amongst the oldest in south both were first documented in an article published by ag robinson in nineteen twenty two. The story of the ghost of deer island was nearly a hundred years old. He quoted captain eugene tiddler senior. Who had resided in biloxi. For all of his seventy eight years. There were two fishermen who landed on the island at night. It was in the days. Before the railroad through the south and there was very little to biloxi than the fishermen made a campfire on the sand. And we're making coffee and getting other quote eats ready when suddenly the palmetto bush's began to create much noise despite the stillness of the night. Her boss her. Yes ghost bugs thinking it was wild hogs. That's worse. The fishermen paid no attention to the bushes later. They glared around and beheld a skeleton standing erect with no skull whole act. I should have said but with no head. Scarier depends on which partner. We're told trend. The fishermen been completely surprised. Managed to move back some but the headless ghost or skeleton. Skeletal follow could you imagine a fun. Sound just like the men stampeded to their boat. They reached their boat shoved off the island and made off to see leaving all of their equipment on the island. Did the skeleton fall to the water's edge can't swim to the water's edge. I said i'd say. I picture him looking them looking back and seeing this ghost like gosh started up. I was hoping you could help me find my ed. The next morning they returned to the island insecure their cooking utensils. It was also said that money was found near the stopped. Did they leave it or did they just find it. Just magic money. He's a fortune telling fortune. Providing orgy was a pokemon and he used payday finders keepers. a few people will okay very pokemon. This story of the headless. Ghosts originates from an old pirate story. According to the legend of pirate captain once steered his ship into biloxi bay to bury large treasure. He and his men buried their gold on deer island after the treasure was hidden. chief exclaimed. who wants to guard measure. Ten of attend. You should totally go into voice. Acting will look into that in inexperienced pirate not realizing the grave mistake said e r e guard the treasurer just as the last words died away. One of the chiefs lieutenant swung his cutlass and cut the man's head off that's not an effective gorge throwing his headless body into the palmettos. The pirate gang left the island for the ship. Thus did the headless skeleton appear in later years to protect the buried treasure. It seemed in danger. Sort i'm gathering is the two fishermen were really close to the treasure and when they went back and found the money they should have kept digging. They should have done exactly what they did. And got out of there Should they have you you scare when your husband knocked on the door valid. I wouldn't have gone back. I wouldn't have gone back. Node have been like it's fine. There's a walmart down the street. And she would have been like a cartoon character on the water just like it's really not that far it's only like a quarter mile from the mainland and back then it was probably even close. You're kidding she get knee deep and start complaining. That's true right foot that's me. I don't do fish on my feet. The apparition of the headless ghost was verified to reagan by another luxy fishermen who said that he had seen it while exploring the island with two other men. What did they say. Two other men. They not see it. I don't have a first account. Okay from the two other men. Just can't it's kind of like the time that a me. Tampa Bay is loaded with talent on both sides of the ball and led by the greatest football player of all time in Tom Brady. So I am betting on the bucks, who have overcome tough matchups throughout this postseason. Oh Lee cow. But his bet pay off so Everybody. You spent three grand or more on a new mattress leading up to the Super Bowl. During whatever the duration of the promotion was. Got their money back. And I guess this isn't the first time he routinely uses betting marketing. To mitigate risk on sales of his promotions at his furniture store. He had more than $11 million in play on the World Series in 2019 between the Astros in the Nationals, including 3.5 Million Futures bet on the Astros that he placed with draft kings in Biloxi, Mississippi, so he'll go to different places so that he can place all these different bets. The Astros came up short, losing to the Nationals in seven games. Now the draft King Sports Book director says Mac has been a great customer. Well, duh. He says. It's someone we have history with after taking his side, double a sizable wager on the world Syriza couple of years ago. The two largest reported sports bet on the Super Bowl. So far have been our were on the box, I should say, and there was a better at MGM in Nevada that place to 2.3 Million Wager on Tampa Bay. So that guy one and then mattress Mack. Those were the two biggest betting Super Bowl winners that we've got. And congrats to all of the mattress Max customers. Not a bad deal. All right, we come back. We're gonna talk our biz bites. Have you ever thought about how much it costs to keep the National Guard troops in Washington, D C. And from what I understand they're going to stay there through the duration of former President Trump's second impeachment trial, So we're going to talk about the cost but also digging a little deeper into the impeachment trial. Why would we have it? If you know what's gonna what the outcome is gonna be sort of a foregone conclusion, According to pretty much anybody, you talk to you. Why do we go on with it? If we know he's not going to be convicted, that's coming up with Alex Castellanos in just.
