"Wood and it's time for sports and here's Rick rags. Don't have to look past the line score to figure out why the bulls three game winning streak crashed and burned against the rockets. When you have three quarters where you're giving up over 30 points in those quarters, it's hard to score enough points. We're scoring enough points, but we've got to be able to be better defensively. First, third and fourth Billy Donovan Houston out muscle the bulls in them all for a one 33 one 18 final, the bulls actually had a one point halftime lead, but trailed by as many as 19 in the fourth as the rockets made 50 of 90 shots Kevin Porter junior let him with 36 demar Derozan 31 for the bulls, Milwaukee is here tomorrow. Blackhawks and Carolina tonight, LA's chargers are playoff bound. Maybe the colt's 20 to three to get there. Denver's Broncos fired coach Nathaniel Hackett after just 15 games. Bear's great Brian urlacher famously had the traits of a defensive back in the body of a middle linebacker. Might be the reverse for rookie bear safety jaquan brisker according to linebacker Nick morrow. I think all strong safety have some, but I think he's really, he's a more natural safety, obviously, right? I think I play he had against the Patriots when he called that pig, where he starts playing from debt. So make that play. So I wouldn't say that, but I think he has a good when he's in the box. He does a good job of finding the football. But he definitely has good instincts from the brisker second on the bears and tackles despite missing three games leads the team in sacks and will play the Lions on Sunday right here. There's been a lot made of the dynamics surrounding the bulls amidst their four game losing streak. And last night in Miami using any and all of that is motivation to turn things around. Billy Donovan had his crew ready against a short handed heat team, first quarter Derek Jones finds Zach lavine for the open three, the bulls led by ten after one. "When the Celtics least expected. That's his first two nice and here is Levine coming in with a right handed slam dunk on the left angle with a power move at the right hand. Where did he come from Zach lavine chuck's worst case call 6 70 the score? Living in the bulls dunk on NBA best Boston one 21 one O 7 ending their four game losing streak, Navarro de Rosen scores bulls high 28 points, but Levine earns an extra attaboy from coach Billy Donovan for rebounding from a late game benching in the lost to Orlando Friday and last night helping the bulls twist the dagger into the Celtics with 9 of his 22 points Levine in the fourth quarter. Yeah, man, I thought he played a great game tonight. He didn't shoot the ball at the percentage rate that he normally does. His fingerprints so to speak roll over the game in a lot of different ways. He's still got 22 points tonight, but he did it defensively. He did it with his passing. He tried to get in there and rebound. He made good decisions. So I thought he did a lot of extremely positive things. At 5 rebounds, 5 assists and two steals for Levine who admits to a career worst night last Friday when he had only four points on one of 14 shooting. It ended because it got pushed back so many times with COVID and the court and all this other nonsense, I didn't get home until September, basically the cancer of the season in the playoffs. We even finished. It was just like a fourth season, long story short. And eventually they pulled the plug because if we keep trying to make this happen, because it kept getting delayed, that imports are going to be stuck here till because you can't leave the country. It's like lockdown. So they said, let's get you guys out of here now. Wrap the season. So we have to pay you for three months just sitting around, right? That's basically their fear. So I came home in September, a lot of other leagues had already started. And it was that time that I said, you know what? I haven't coached summer league with an MBA staff, have been able to pursue it. I said, I'm doing it. I don't care how I'm going to reach out to teams. And I kind of made that my focus and also obviously I'm working with players locally. I was doing some scouting for a team in Spain. But on a coaching side, that was my goal. I get onto some of the staff. And be able to work with them in a mini camps and all that. How did you happen to go to the Cleveland? I had met Bernie bickerstaff going back a few years. And I messaged him just asking him if JB was going to look for guest coaches. You know, not anything more intensive. Do you think he's going to look for guest coaches for some league? And he replied to say, hit him up yourself. Here's your number. So I said, okay. JB, I'm obviously Bernie said some nice things about me, but JB from he replied right away. Just the nicest guy definitely stay in touch. Yes, we want guys like you on the staff. I don't have the dates yet, but he was all, and ever since then, that was in March. And ever since then, he was following up with me, keeping me in the loop, so really great vibe from them from the start. Now, did you just go to their camp for the G league? Or did you go to their dread free draft workouts? Like, what was your level of involvement? I'd make a pre job stuff. So they had camps starting after that. And we were there about a week in Cleveland. And just working with the summer league guys, but from day one, we felt like we were on the staff. It was really just a family vibe there. It really people say family. But they really do act like that. It was really refreshing. Okay, so now you have all this knowledge of coaching overseas and from a wide array of styles, a wide array of countries and every country has a style. And then your own personal evolution. Now you come back to the NBA. And grant, it's suddenly, but they're trying to implement some of the things that they do to see how these guys react within it. What's the basketball like for you in terms of an adjustment in coaching? Well, first of all, they are great because they want all these new ideas. So I came in and thinking, don't step on any toes, just blend in because my personality is a little bit more out there. Like I'll speak my mind. I decided to coach at 35. So I'm not a kid. I'm all in this, you know, with ideas and other stuff. So I was first they wanted to hear these different ideas from college coaches from overseas coaches from everybody. And if anything, they were like, man, when you were speaking up and you weren't jumping onto the court to do a drill, or maybe I have a different way of doing this. So that was refreshing to not only learn from them, but get validation of your own knowledge, in a sense. Sure. And I really felt good. What were the games like? Summer league? Yeah. Not a lot, obviously, you're getting up and down, not a lot of continuity. Sustaining that ball movement was the biggest thing. And also for us, we were trying a new coverage out for the caps. So they want to see how a certain coverage looks for training camp. And they need teams to do. They're kind of like a Guinea pig lack of a better term. They're trying to coverage out. Let's see how it works. Let's have some data. What coverage? So it's just a pick and roll coverage. They trap. Sorry, switch and trap. But how you do that? What way to do that best? So it's not telegraphed all the time. Sure. Like a lot of teams are doing it, you know, lack of a better Lakers did it. If you know it's been over mellow would switch all they trap, right? But it's one thing to say it and what they've actually drilled home and have a set rotation where you're going to leave this guy. We're going to basically induce this pass and not give this pass. And that was kind of we had some rough times if someone just because we're doing something aggressively on the defensive end. So as long as you have that right perspective, it was definitely a success. You know, it's fascinating because. I don't think people have the understanding of it's not just a level of intelligence needed to be a basketball player, but the processing that you have to have. And that's the perfect example of it, right? Within one within a defensive assignment, you can have multiple coverages based upon personnel. And then your rotations can be different based upon personnel. And so the days of like, I think that's the big thing that so many of these younger players struggle with. We evaluate players at a younger level based upon their ability, usually with the basketball, right? And yet there are a Billy Donovan talks about 95% of the time you don't have the ball in basketball. But these are things that they literally have no idea about. None. So and I think how quickly they process, that that really determines, in many ways, their ability to play at that level. Because every level is the same from this perspective. And I think you can attest this. You get on the court initially based upon your level to defend. Right? Nothing eliminates a younger player from playing as can guard anybody. Because the older

"Me that I'm wrong. And so I think that's a pretty good test to put yourself through before you finish a column. Is this fair? Is it going to be well received by the person or people I'm writing about? I don't consider that nearly as much as is this fair. Could I defend it if I'm forced to defend it? But like way back in the day, you were like, you're a fireball. Well, I can remember Billy Donovan picking up the phone and calling. And he didn't like something that I'd written. I think it was, I wrote that Billy Donovan because I had been told this by a lot of people. I had more or less invented the elite camp. You know, by hiring coaches like grassroots coaches to come work the camp at Florida with the understanding being you bring your players, bring your three blessed players with you, use the money I'm paying you to work our camp to pay for your campers, your best players to come be campers at the camp. Like that became a very common thing everybody was doing it. But I was told I wanted to write about it and everybody was like, yeah, Billy invented that. That Billy's the one that really figured that out. How to do that. And he didn't like that it sort of put him out there in that light. I've had Bill self call about a column one time that he was totally cool, obviously. Like, bill's the type. You know, he'll end the conversation with you by saying, hey, listen, I'm not gonna be mad about what you wrote, even if I don't like it because I know you'll write something good next time or sometime. Like it all balances out. I'm fine. He would never get mad about it. But like I've taken that call before. John calipari had taken the call before. The wildest one was Bobby Gonzalez when he was at seat haw. That got and I'm not trying to pile on body. But that was the one. That was the single wildest conversation. I ever had with a coach about something that I'd written. Like we were yelling at each other, cussing at each other type of thing. He's now a scout. I don't know who he works with, but I'm pretty sure he's a scout. Bobby Gonzalez, man. Yeah. From another era. You want to get out of here. I do want to get out of here. You got Instagram, we also go look at, you know? Yeah. But what I am also going to do, honestly, is like text some people that I know who work in television. I really want to get an answer to the best that we can get an answer like could a nothing but power conference basketball tournament. Be more profitable. "Hello, Paul. Hugh, I was waiting for you to get free. So you can lead me through it. I'm 81 years old, been doing this a long time, and I'm going to give you a magic secret in how to get there quickly. Thank you. The NCAA tournament is made up of quads, four, 14s, and if you go through that long list and take you take each quad, the first quad with each of the four brackets is easy. There's never been a 16 beat, a number one. So you know you gotta check off. Hold on a second. All right. It happened three years ago in Virginia lost to UMBC. Well, you know, the sun doesn't come up every day. The only reason that happening, it happens about four miles from where we are right now, that's the only reason I remember. Look, the odds of that happening. It's only happened one time. So we don't need to worry about that. Back to my point. Okay. You need to figure out who the best team in each of those quads are based on what you tell. And that will give you the sweet 16. Okay. Now, once you have a sweet, 16, you figure out who can make their way to the national championship. And you work forward to come up with a national champion. Then you work backward to see how the sweet 16 got there. And you have your 68 team bracket filled out. Okay. I just did it while we were talking. Yeah. Okay, now there's a second thing I want to tell you. I love the call from the dean, the Texas a and M dean. Unfortunately, some university faculties have a collective adversarial attitude toward athletic teams and that's certainly true with at least one university in the southeastern conference. But to me, there are more the thing I really want to talk to you about is about these teams. We have 16 teams looking for a new basketball coach. I think it's impossible for Tennessee to have as good a coach next year as they've got this year. Barnes has been fabulous. And in LSU's case, we have no idea how the hammer is going to fall. And for all of the crumb bum step that their coach did, he's pretty good at X's and O's guy. And he had pretty good players. And I think South Carolina, Missouri, and Florida are going to have a hard time doing any better than they did this year based on their new coach. I think Georgia will be infinitely better and here's the reason I say that. Billy Donovan was a national recruiter. He had gravitas spilled all over him from the years he spent with Rick Pitino as Rick's main guy and then his short stay as a head coach and he nationally recruited and had the sons of some of the best NBA players show up there to play. Other than Billy Donovan, what Florida basketball coach ever had a record that wasn't mediocre. That's not basketball country. Conversely, if you took the greater Atlanta area, there's as many great kid basketball players coming out of that area as any other area in the entire southeastern conference. There is no excuse for Georgia, not to have dynamite talent every year in basketball. I got a feeling if coach white can get some of those kids as well as he works with him. He will be successful. Thank you, Hugh. Be well. We are coming back with much, much more. We are just 30 minutes in, even though you may have thought you've been here longer. We'll come back with Tom green. Tom green, right after this. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Geico asks how would you.

"To go Jenkins for this one. And you know what it is for me? You know what it is for me, so he's my pick too. You know, I hinted a minute ago that I think bicker staff is very easily in the conversation. Billy Donovan, the bulls weren't in the playoffs last year, granted they added a lot, but they've also been without a lot for a lot of the season two with injuries, COVID. They lost Patrick Williams, the first week of the season or whatever it was. So I think he could be in the conversation. I think bolsters are really smart named having the conversation. But I keep coming back to Taylor Jenkins here, jaw, the record without jaw and not really looking fluky at all during that at all. In my opinion, like legitimate wins, 73 point wins without John morant. Have I been a little fluky a little weird, but so there was that, but also Dylan Brooks has missed a lot of time this year too. And it's gonna miss more time now. And it's like, they really don't miss a beat, which I feel like it's normally veteran teams that react that way. Right. Every now and then you get a little spurt here or there where gian green is out and then the rocket's going to run. It can happen, but it's normally fleeting, and then there's like a regression that's really hard where the rockets were terrible after that win streak. Everything about the grizzly seems legit, which I love that. And not to mention that, like you said, they beat the warriors last year. They're not afraid. That takes some maturation a little bit and I feel like it's a young team it's a relatively young coach but they don't they don't come across that way and I remember thinking at one point last year, there was a game. I think they lost a really horrendous game last year to the maps where they kind of I think Grayson Allen made like 9 mistakes in the last minute, but they weren't guarding particularly well. And I think Luca took an inbound pass with like a second or two left and I don't remember if you pump fake or he just kind of contorted his body in between a couple defenders from the grizzlies and he hit this game winning three, which created it was an amazing shot, but the grizzlies really didn't defend it very well, and they kind of gave up the lead at the end. And I remember thinking because I sat in on the Zoom call after and I remember thinking like listening to Taylor Jenkins and he like, I'm so used to covering the warriors and these other teams where you really come down and you really are critical of your team when you make mistakes to give up a game like that..

"We've talked about this endlessly since the end of the season last year. The number one topic in the off season for me was, what's the market value? I repeat this continuing. What is the market value for Ben Simmons? And one thing I think that the three of us can agree on is that it's a lot less than it was three months ago. Wouldn't you love to know from Daryl morey, what was the best trade offer he's actually getting? I didn't know that. He's not trading him. I thought that would know. He's just not trading him. He's taking a stand. He's not in the market. You know what? If that's it, then you're arrogance. Is going to really get in the way. And ownership should get involved and say, hey, Moore, here's the deal. We want to know what the trade offers are because we can't throw away a season, which is essentially what Philadelphia is doing here because they are not good enough as presently constituted to win a title. They're not good enough to beat probably Milwaukee or Brooklyn or Miami at this point. So they got to make them move at some point. I think they'll wait. And again, see what the market bears as the trade deadline. Maybe if they get that far, you know, somebody's going to be unhappy at that point. And that's when you can try to maybe make a move for Benson. So let's touch our Chicago because this week, Jeff was at the garden. We're going to get into the Celtics in a moment. What surprised me about the bulls because I hadn't obviously hadn't seen them. Was there bench? Yeah. And that's something that Danny Brad, the Celtics have not been able to put together for a long time. Yeah, would you love to have Alex Caruso? Wouldn't you love to have Alex Caruso on the Celtics team? Sure. I'd like to have all of their bench on this Celtics team. Jeff you were there last night. You know, but I know you think they're falling off, but how much of a threat could they be? I think that the loss of Patrick Williams for the season is really going to hurt him. Because he was just that guy who did everything, right? He guarded. He was tough. And now you're starting javonte green, no disrespect, Bradford's own javonte green who earned a spot with the Celtics. But starting him and playing him 20 plus minutes, not the same Patrick Williams is upside was much, much higher. But I love their other four starters. And I love Lonzo Ball. I do. And I was talking to Billy Donovan for a while after the game last night and we were talking about Lonzo and he said, like, I think this is a fresh start for.

"Top to bottom? You know, like top 8 teams in the east are no joke right. I mean, we haven't even talked about Charlotte. No, we have Charlotte. It's pretty good. I mean, they're young. They got lamelo has been better than anybody thought for the most part. You know, miles bridge has been good. I mean, there's a lot of, you know, there's a lot of good teams and the east isn't what it used to be. Like the east for so long, I felt like bob was just like the laughing stock for the most. It was everything cyclical and then no question that west dominated without any question. But the east has gotten much more competitive and one other guy that is always in the topic of conversation in New York is Mitchell Robinson. Yeah. I've never been a huge, huge fan. I'm a fan of his talent. I've never trusted Mitchell Robinson. Well, he has not, you know, he's he's giving them flashes. He's a key. He's been a tease. I think that's a fair way to put it. And they need him and they want him to be more than just a tease. 'cause I got a veteran backup now with our boy, our local boy makes good neuro neuro. This has been good there. He's been good and yeah, I mean, listen, there are as good as the east is there are still some teams that are not very good. We saw one of them against the Celtics in the first preseason game. The Orlando Magic are not good at all. The wizards are not very good, are not going to be good. Then Detroit's going to stink this year. I mean, those are those are three teams that are like bottom three to me in the NBA. So like in Cleveland, Cleveland's not there. So you really have four teams that I think you can pencil in. At the bottom, another team we haven't mentioned when talking about the east is the Chicago Bulls bob. Much better. Billy Donovan, you know, he adds Lonzo Ball. He adds the more derosa. Yes. So Zach lavine. So you've got like, you know, the rose is not really at all star anymore, but like a good top 50 player.

"Thing long term on the bulls. I'm thinking that they might have one free agency yesterday. Because i love the lonzo signing. I love the caruso signing for them. Billy donovan is building a culture. They're the guys that can play with. Zach levine and don't forget they. They added nick which nicola which last last season the deadline the bulls are trying to make the playoffs and much like we've talked about that. The league is better when the knicks are pretty good or good. I still think the same thing from the bull standpoint as well chicago matters so and by the way we've got a couple of things we've got a cup. I mean man. There's a lot of breaking news. Just happening right now. So here's the deal. Woge breaks the story steph. Curry agrees four year. I wrote a lot about the white side. We did a really good job with the block. And then we were told to stop right. Stop blogging. Stop doing it! You're blondes. They're too hot. This content is great. You know about that. Helen told people not to add more content. Well, that was the time you know, sometimes a day. Sometimes you pivot the video. It's great. What's incredible about that is how Fox is now pivoting back toe hiring writers to them right for their website after they let everyone go like two years ago because they're committing the video. You don't have to pick there was not. There was no point in any time where you had to pick between video and writing, but they were just like We gotta do one or the other. We're going with video. We have so much that we're going to get into. We'll talk baseball. We have some thoughts on the Super Bowl. Still the Bulls. I want to talk to you about what Billy Donovan said last night. I watched in and of itself last night. Don't spoilers. I'm not gonna I'm not gonna spoil it. But don't tell me how David Copperfield figures it out. It's pretty. Do you know what it's about? No, it's about magic. Want to magically? I love magic, but it's not like it's not. No. Don't say something. You're not allowed to say anything about sure I get it. It's not a magic. Trust me, Okay? You and I used to hang out with the dude that would bring another dude with him. That would bring cards to the barn. Do magic tricks for people. It's true. It worked for him, though It was his gimmick. Some guys Some guys play guitar and then get the lady. Some guys have magic tricks, So I thought it was really good. I will watch it. And now that I know the football's over, there's more time. So do tonight. Yeah, All right, so we have so much to do. Here on this show. And yeah, I mean, You think we could really find the robot conversation that we had? You know who would find it is Gustavo Gustavo Vega has been listening for a long time. I'm sure he could find it. I think the computer itself that we recorded it on. I think it was. It's gone. It's back in the know the old regime took it as I did. Yeah, coming up next. Here we go. So the show show has begun. I want to talk to you about the Chicago Bulls. I lose last night. I don't like the way that the plate at the end, I'm gonna talk to you, Billy Donovan said something interesting in the postgame that I think we should listen to and kind of react to based on Where this team is going young players. Are they starting to figure it out? Why haven't they figured it out? We'll talk bowls. Next. You're listeningto Black and Abdullah, ESPN 1000,.

"My God come into the playoffs The last few times I was in the playoffs, both Blackhawks and balls in Chicago. There's no spring until Memorial Day you no later than ever. Thanks, Mike tonight. Oh, my word in the middle of a pandemic. My cubs aren't adding anybody. You know there's a on a treadmill quarterback. And I know I want to do is say it's getting a little lighter later and you want to crush my dreams. I know that was bad. That was bad form. I apologize. Right. So if I know you and I do know you, there's no one who dislikes Super Bowl hype on a Wednesday more than you So, yes, you nailed it. So it won't start there. What is number one on your mind today? The bull's gonna make the playoffs. Really? Mm hmm. Yep. Come out there for optimism. Lighten it up. I mean, I turned around real quick on. You just stunned. Sylvie Waddell. Did you even hear him? He didn't want to make of that. The balls are going to make the plan. What? They're only a game out right now. Right? There came out of seven. Yeah. I mean, they listen, and they had four like crushing defeat. Crushing defeat that if they want two of those games They'd be 500. The loss of Portland is one of the most crushing regular season losses involved. History is I mean, the whole thing the whole 15 whatever years, 56 whatever it is That that was unbelievable. And yet He came back to win the next game. I just think they have a certain you know Dick in battle. They? They lost those four games in a row, all by one possession. They lost four games in a row. What they lost the Lakers the Clippers because they beat Portland, Sacramento and lots of Oklahoma City. They lost all four games, essentially at the at the at the buzzer. And then they came back and they beat Houston and Dallas and I was like, okay. That's that's pretty good. I mean, you know, nothing really means anything in the regular season, but we're looking for incremental growth. That's what I said. I was looking for when the season started. We're seeing that Rory market and back to back games where he was not only alive and breathing, but at 30 and each one of them. That's that's that's what I was talking about when I said Billy Donovan's the right guy for this because he's going to come in looking to make to forge incremental game player development, and that's what they're doing. Marketing is a really interesting Conversation, Michael. So where do you think he's headed? They have to make a decision about him at the end of the year, contractually, what is your expectation from marketing? Who will he defined himself to be? By the end of a full season with Billy Donovan in a new group. We could do one of two things, either. He could do this. Or more times. I don't mean in a row, but he could have some great games and you say you see enough to say you know what? Let's just keep him. Let's figure this out of the end of the regular season or Somebody could really be impressed by what he's done and wanna trade form before the deadline. And which you case you could mean that the book Holly players of the Bulls half of scored 30 points this year in a game. Like six guys, right? Oh, be white. Obviously. Zach Marketing even didn't window Carter have a 27 28 point game. WeII. That was had to be like an out liar, though. I mean, like I wouldn't Okay, but you're right isn't out Liar Because that's not his job. He's worn himself out a porter. I think have one of them, so I mean, they have This is the point that I was getting that at the beginning. When they got there. They got pieces. How valuable are the pieces? I don't know. They don't know. But you try to get this incremental game out of each guy and the team collectively and you see what you got. I think they're going to be good enough. Make the playoffs and the kid's got the Knicks playing better. I realize Cleveland that got the coach of the year candidate right now, this is there's only more bad teams. And the Knicks are the Bulls aren't working. Michael. The one thing is a Bulls fan that drove me crazy in the 2010 version of the Bulls. The teams that we loved, um is when I heard Well, we can't go out and get a better shooting guard to play alongside Derrick because we got too much money invested in Boozer. We have too much money invested. And so the thing that I don't want happening is Is that we believe that marketing has taken a step. And we know he's not a one or a two and that we put money into him because another team they want him on the restricted free agent market. And while we want to keep Zach that we still don't have that key player and I don't want that to get in the way of trading for or getting a great play Truly great, totally agree. Totally agree with you, Sylvie on that. That's the only way you could be a factor in the NBA. Look, I'm all a couple of teams have done it with ensembles. You know the Pistons in it with rip Hamilton and chalky bills it and even then two of those guys, they're like, three guys who were no number twos, right? I mean, crusty pillows. If he wasn't the one he was damn close to it. And a great a great play and clutch player at a position where matters more..

"Um, of lucid bitches On that way. Julius Randle, the does a number of those guys there are on their way to being a superstar. He's not a superstar yet, but I know that he is an emerging star. So cap I can roll with you on the money with Zach Levine. That's fine. I just need to know what else the Bulls are going to do. If you're going to say that the vine that Glavine is a centerpiece, then what? What's after that is that Kobe is that is that marketing? Is that your big three? Because if that's the case, you don't. That means you don't have any superstars. None of the first of all, I'm not a huge Kobe white guy at this point. Right now, What is Kobe White 20 years old? Kid? Yep. 20. Look he has. Kobe was the best player in his high school team. He's one of the best players on his college team. There's a reason he went seven because he could score. I need a point guard someone who can take some of the burden of getting guys where they need to be in the right spots running the offense properly. And making some shots, but They never really tried to build around, Jimmy. They brought in, um Dwayne Wade. And who is the Rondo? They brought in weight. And Rondo. How old is he? Jeff? Kobe White is 20 years old. He'll be 21 in exactly two weeks. February 16. Okay, so he's a baby in his development, and he's got a professional coach. In his second year here, so I'm willing to give him a little time because they're not winning a title anyway, this year. That's the amazing thing. I go on social media, and if they lose their move that sumo bulls and lose again No, no fair. Let this thing develop. You just got like A Michelin starred chef who's Your coach? Is you like to call it from the top shelf? Yes, we played like a month and a half, two months. Let him please go out there. And do his work. Otto Porter's 28 million comes off the books. He'll be gone. They have an option on Fatties Young. Why trade him? I know you may get Good asset unless I'm getting a really unbelievable deal. Like what he brings to my team. He's a pro's pro. So I I think they're gonna have 52 million potentially and cap space. I would use some of it Log Zach up this summer. I would. I think I think that's fair. I think that's fair. I just I just need to know what else the bull's gonna do here for the future that issue and by the way, I wouldn't make any moves as we get when we get close to the deadline out the whole season's about evaluation. Bulls fans know if I really thought that this team wasn't going anywhere, I'd be pulling the trigger on them every single day on the show, But I'm not doing that. Because because this Billy Donovan, for God's sakes, Is Billy Donovan. I mean, here's a guy here now. Hey, he's taking the toughest job he's ever had the MBA, trying to mold him develop and shape this team into a contender. This is not easy. It will not be easy with this team, because, remember, they had Boylan before this, So now it's almost trying to retrain, rework re coach a lot of these guys to get them. In a position where they can win and learn how to win. When it comes to Kobe White, though I have to ride with them cap because there's no other point guard on the roster. Not currently that I could that I could trust. Let me look at the roster. Archie Archie Deok, You know that's all you have. That is actually point guards and Devin Dotson. He went to Kansas. So we have to give him a pass it all the way Now he was a fuse off. He was a fine starter for the 83 socks. But I don't want them on Richard. That's it. All right, Bigger part. Kevin, invoking a real quick What's up, Kevin? How's it going? Um, I just wanted to say That Do you think we should be exact cuisine? I was comparing him to Brandon Ingram. You put their numbers together. It's basically almost the same. Brandon might have more rebounds and, but they're both very young of rising players. And like he said about diving Mitchell, you know, um if we paid Zach that and maybe Levin to like a three year round like $60,000,050 million, he's not taking, you know, three year extension on top of another year, he's not taking Yes. Then a max type dealing. Appreciate the call Kevin, if you go to him ago. Yeah, we'll give you whatever he's looking to get paid, and I understand it. Hey, If the Bulls don't pay him, someone will people people could use his last team that could use that type production capsule. If it's not gonna be bulls, someone will and by the way, I like Brandon Ingram as well. Die unknown being coached by sand. Van Gundy is the problem that you got it cap. You got Zion Williams and Brandon Ingram and Steven Adams on the floor at the same time, it gets a little cumbersome in the lane. Little cumbersome. You mean Zion's of five right in this league? Right? So what Steven Adams doing on the floor? Get out of the way. I see it exactly the way you move. All right, we get A brand new feature. We get Hoodwinked. "In how to hire Artie kind of works, But every coach in every professional sport has had to figure that that chemistry experiment out. How much Support Do I give? How much empathy do I deliver? How much do I have to scream and somebody? How much do I play? The rah rah guy? How much my play The serious guy. How much do I played A relatable guy and Billy Donovan is Exceptional at that, and I don't use that word lightly. I think he is exceptional at the ciphering. What an individual needs to feel like you can get the most out of them. And it's a part of part of it is just being even keeled. And and that approach I think has connected with ah lot of different types of personality. Just in this, you know, three months stretch alone, so you need I think exactly mean doesn't need to be cheered on. I think you need to poach exactly being hard and make him realize it on his own. I think that's Billy's approach with Zach. I think with Kobe you have to push a little bit because he is the type who's young and his hungry and wants to respond in a positive way. I think you have to push him a little bit. And I think Billy's figured out a lot, not all of it, but a lot of the chemistry and a lot of the approach that is necessary for this unique Particular group of young individuals mixed in with the veterans that are out there to try to make the most of their situation. Great stuff, Adam. We always appreciate your time. Enjoy the games this weekend will be watching tomorrow. Okay. Thanks, Adam. Thank you. I appreciate your There you go. Adam. I mean, is awesome. "He's getting that second. That that Scottie Pippen, Joe Dumars attention. You know what it means, like We gotta worry about the primary school in Austin. So yeah, he's gonna be great when there's another primary scorer. Nonsense. Zack doesn't have that Zach is more athletic. Exactly bigger and exactly. There's more explosive. And he has that type of athleticism and those type of gift that Hey, has superstar potential. I think that Um, I think the problem with the Bulls and the ball in years and the Hoiberg years that they were trying to make him something else. We were trying to make him off facilitated. They're trying to make him get other guys going when the reality reality is the way that he gets guys going is by getting going himself. And Now he's garnering the attention of the entire defense. And now Lowry can miss those open shots that he's getting for him. You know, when Dale Carter could be whatever he is, I'm not even sure he's like a 67. Powers dinner, You know, I mean, they just need to, you know, go ahead and send him out to pasture. I thanks. I appreciate it. And there was I don't want to overrate one moment that I saw on TV. It was a game a game or two ago, It was either Dallas or this last game. What they won, where they was a time out on the floor. Zach was walking to the bench in Billy Donovan met him out a little further onto the floor and was pointing here pointing their Zach was looking right at him and then motioning with his hands there, and then he looked at him and he nodded and he went to the bench. That would have been greeted last year with an eye roll. Do you know what I mean? Like it? Boiling would have said something to him. He would have rolled his eyes and walked away. But like they're engaged, they're listening. They're being coached by a professional right now. Harada in Cicero. You're on ESPN 1000. What's up, Sherrod? Harry, I've got to meet here. Please just pass on what the brother said before about exact like you gotta understand. Like brother came out. You see that lady? Extremely young. He has been paid to the point I soon got. He blew out his knee come back and have a piss poor culture and everything he's learned everything. He's done. Done on the fly until he got hold of Billy Donovan and he's still getting your 22 23 24 25 points again. 27 points again. And this kid has looked at like her. But he ain't happy today. Winning. You gotta be more careful. Everybody was heard as well. That old thing was hurt. Everybody was herded. He's had people heard around him. I love him, so it's hard to win like that, and he's been doing what he's doing and fight. Having Is that thing in his way He's been doing it in spite up, so I'm like, Yo, I'm looking at him. I'm like, I don't know what we're looking for. We had Jimmy Butler. But he wasn't a star. So we got rid of him and that we still looking for the next Jimmy. Now we got him like I don't know what we're looking for exactly. I was like, What was we doing, man? This is not what this is about. Like you said, Sylvie, we add two. We don't take away from you Don't just find 27 points a game. This plan stinks. Success with six rebounds. You know, this is a fad, the 6 ft six explosive consumptive Jim Adlai and but said before he is our number one to Kian, and if the Bulls such a bad thing he's still getting 30. Still gave him 35. You still get him? 38? Because this kid is talented. This kid that was over 30? Yeah. Sure I thank you. The good collar. Sherrod. We're rhythm at the end. There was a little screwed up. "He thought here I am. You know everyone, Everyone bowed to me. And to the point. Remember when the veterans on the team he had that run in with Ron Adams, a blow up in Philadelphia in a pregame shoot around and he went off on Ron Adams and called him every name in the book. And Jim Boylan, the other Jim Boylan, the first Jim Boylan suspended for a game and the veterans on that team. I was covering the team in the time before in Atlanta game the next game. They voted to give him like a three game suspension. This is teammates. And so I mean, so they wanted to put the young guy in this place. So when you look at it, it's great to have a galley. Billy Donovan. I mean, it's great when Mitch Strabinsky says that because he sees it, he feels it but is much better when the new head coach or the franchise quarterback who's actually have all fake credentials, says that then people actually pay attention. It just and it illustrates over and over again that you cannot. Regardless, regardless of what press conference you have. And what kind of season you have? What kind of injuries you have all that kind of nonsense. You cannot just say accountability and get away with it. There are deeds that have to be done. To establish accountability throughout the organization and the story you tell about about your keen getting the three game suspension. The story we're talking about now, with with Billy Donovan and his You know, kind of measure of accountability through playing time and through comments to the media, these air their deeds that underline the need for accountability in a franchise. It is not just saying, Well, we need to be more accountable and then going out there and doing the same kind of thing over and over again. I think you Shoot. You see it on Sundays. You see it on game days. If we're not talking about the NFL, you can tell which organizations Hold guys accountable when when it makes sense to hold them accountable, and you can see which ones just like to say it so that Folks can write about it and say the nice things about about teams that aren't necessarily holding up their end of the bargain. Well, I remember so when Scott Skiles was coaching the Bulls First practice of the season, a training camp. He and we were actually allowed it. Watch practice back then. Wow. What was that, like? Yeah, sure across, was trying to pull the curtain down on us, But we were in the gym. And so Skiles is everyone's on the floor stretching right, so they're lined up in rows stretching and Thousands walking back and forth between the lines of players. And still do you do the little things toe toe end up in winning or you have to do little things T O in. And he just said without speaking to anyone in particular. If you don't have a shirt tucked in right now, please do so. Just talking to Ben Wallace. He just been signed by the Bulls for $60 million. Now. I didn't call him out. But just, you know, and I know you know, the organization went through that whole thing with the headband, No headband rule, and they actually had a headband on his bobblehead doll and people said, you know, Get your story straight or whatever, right? Yeah, but it was that type of thing that like it or not, there were gonna be rules, even t How you looked at practice, right? And people could say, Well, that's old school in that stupid everything else. It is what it was what it was. And no one question who is running the show there, right. So if you're new there with the newly minted $60 million Ben Wallace Was gonna learn Scott Skiles way right right on the first day. Man. That's something that I'm so glad you brought this up, because that's something that is like a I don't know, probably like a self appointed new school kind of sports fan or whatever. That's something that I had to remind myself every time I cover a team every time I go in, like Practice matters, like, Remember all that way. Just had you know the Kobe anniversary a little while ago and I remember seeing a whole bunch of tweets and everything like that. It It mattered the way he practiced. It mattered. How absolutely accountable. It had. M J All right, No 1, 100 Practice and Michael Jordan. You saw it in the dance, right? The last dance 100%. Right to the point where he punched guys out, right? I mean, not that you encouraged that necessarily. But if your top guy buys into that and actually demands more than maybe even the coaching staff is demanding I mean, you're You're you're a long way down the road to winning championships when you've got the superstars saying, Well, we hold on. We haven't done enough. I was leaving the floor, right? Absolutely no doubt about it. Practice matters. 3123323776. That's the phone number here on water lines, Water and Sylvie. I'm Connor McKnight. I only got one thing for you. The polls are hitting me win of the year the first twenty point comeback in the nba. This season i saw some highlights from the clippers versus the spurs. NBA Draft Rumor Mill
"Two thousand and twenty. Nba draft rumors whether those trade rumors talking about where we're hearing particular players going. We've talked about all the big names already. We've talked about hard and we talked about chris. Paul we've talked about dennis schroder. We've talked about russell westbrook. We talked about minnesota. We talked about golden state. We talked about charlotte. The bulls are sitting there at four. And it's been really interesting. Dinnie obvious name's been floated about. I've heard from multiple sources that that is sheer speculation because of their general manager. Who's an international guy. And what he did in. Denver has nothing to actually do connected with this pick. La bella ball could be there for chicago. Which would be very interesting in the back court that they currently have there. And i've heard a lot of therese albert. I'm here as well as a culture guy and one of the big things that chicago is focusing on his culture right. Now who do you see taking at ford. They have a guy. I applaud the bulls because they have really done a good job of not telegraphing. What they're doing you know they've been connected to a lot of these guys. They've done an above average job. Relative to when teams are leaky of keeping this close to the best And so it's who they end up with. I think if ball is there he makes tons of sense. That's a nice fit with you guys have and the need for a passer and the fact that there are other scorers on the roster where he's not gonna act like be the only guy who's creating anything that's a pretty nice fit so we'll see if he's there we dug into lamelo earlier so i'm not gonna harp on that fit but let's say he's not there and i think allah is a real option. I agree that some of it is the speculation but he does kinda fit their roster as well and i've heard again obi topping. Who's come up for them. A anthony grants Coach dayton was on billy donovan staff previously thunder. So they're obviously going to be well informed about top into. There's some thought that billy donovan can have some input on what they do here. But it's hard to know exactly what his type of player is is. In oklahoma city you had prestige san prestige Decisions with burst now. So how burton has come up another dark horse. I think for that spot. And i'm still not entirely sure what to make of this but it's patrick williams who i know there's at least some degree real interest there. Would they take him at four. It wouldn't be like totally crazy. At this point. It would be high for him. But i mean maybe that's their secret. They have their sleeve It's really tough for me to predict too but right now my guess would be that if there is no ball. I still lean audio. But i don't think it's like a foregone conclusion. I think people are trying to figure chicago right now. Let's talk about patrick williams because it seems to be a foregone conclusion that everybody thinks detroit's taking him it's of and so now the question is will even be there at seven which you know a few weeks ago probably would have been seen as madness. But i've heard talk that. Atlanta is interested in him. I've heard talk. That cleveland is now interested in him. The most of the talking. Cleveland centers around obi top in and dinnie omnia there. And now you're mentioning chicago at four with patrick williams heck widen on the warriors taking to. Is you know patrick williams is. This is the next upside guy right like after you talk about ball edwards and weisman. I think mini scouts see him the next guy he only averaged nine points a game at florida state but that he has this big big ceiling right that he could that he could fit into as a team. Just as a prospect. Is it possible. He's getting over hyped at this point. Do you really see him. As a player that has the next highest ceiling in this draft after ball edwards. In wiseman i have to admit like. I'm not all the way there with him. I have had him graded as a lottery. Guy for a long time towards the end the college season i was like that guy is gonna go ten to twelve. And that's where i had him now. Yeah i didn't expect this type of leap. I guess we might have predicted it because team sent to be a little bit predictable this time of year. You know the the upside guy always the guy. It's without quite john right now but yeah. I think he's very much an idea. And it's worth re-emphasizing that you know. His his body obviously is really promising in terms of how it will hold up defensively. He's going to be versatile. On that end he will have to get a little bit more agile laterally but his is. The value so young is really helpful. Obviously a big factor. You know being the youngest college player in this draft so between that and then you see flashes were really had a pull up jumper. He's did pretty well from the line. I think there's a pretty good chance. He's an above average three point shooter in now you're talking about well. Hey maybe this is a floor spacing combo forward. You can check out. He'll buck shots. He will play good team. Defense and be switchable. That's a pretty in this draft especially when we're like how do we find like even just like a high level player that case is pretty egypt's let's let's say we take that case for. I mean that's a pretty comparable high and dry or if not better. So i see it what i do it at four. I don't know but i understand why this is happening. And i think there teams that you might wanna come up and get him. And that's probably what the pushing them up. The board as well wants wants everybody found out. Detroit was the floor. Change the conversation. It really does. and there. Is this weird psychological dynamic in the draft. That i love it every year. You know jeremy because this thing takes hold oh you like him at seven now. Maybe we at six like there. Is this conversation that starts to happen with these with these boards. And so you know there's so much data and there's so much scouting that's put into this. But the psychology of the draft is the most fascinating fascinating

How Doris Burke Became An Accidental Pioneer
"We'll. So Dana I can you tell us a little bit about your own relationship with Doris Burke Yeah? I'm Lucky Kavita I. Mean I worked at ESPN for eight years. So Doris was one of the people that I interacted with frequently. I mean we had so much in common with our love for college basketball and we would just chat at games or she shoot me a text. Love that story that you did today you are. You're just you know you did a great job you knocked it out of the park or I would text her. So we've gone back for years and She's just always been the same. That's the coolest thing I can say about Dr is I don't care if she's super popular people are making t-shirts. Drake and all this, and she's still the same that she was when I first met her how would you describe her on air personality and her style in the booth I think what people like about Dr She's She's she's very intelligent and on point about all of her observations, he's got US billy. Donovan says excellent lower body strength and he doesn't reach over. Don't give the official even a window cut the angle. She is not loud. She's not there's no stick to her tough shot contest. Yes. Yes she says something and she really hones in her. She really calls somebody out everyone's Kinda like both. To Me is where Andrew Wiggins has stood in the corners on several possessions. Like steals reporter to. And if you talk to people in the game, they actually say that they they are very respectful of her opinion and they know if she has a problem with something, then there's a problem. We'll Dana you recently wrote a profile on doors for the athletic I. can you tell us a little bit about her background and her early days? She's like a lot of us or at least like me you know kids that grew up just interested in sports. Super. Star Sable. Start Tonight number eleven she moved from Long Island to the Jersey shore to a small town happened to be a park across the street and a basketball hoop and it was like divine intervention right? She hadn't really played a lot of basketball growing up in Long Island. But when she moved, she was young enough that she just that's where she went and there was never a sense of Oh Doris girls don't play sports. It was just whatever you're busy go outside and play sable from outside. and. So she just became a really good ballplayer where really good basketball players are often developed, which is on the playgrounds took all comers boys girls didn't care. The BUZZER GUARD SABLE Head. And grew into a good enough. Basketball players to get a scholarship to providence. We forget that that was a really big deal for young women. Athletes are just weren't a lot of them. That wasn't normal and she recognize it immediately as what it was. It was a ticket for her to get to college and pay for college and established herself in a career. She wasn't there was no WNBA obviously, she knew that this was the path for her future in her life and she just kinda followed it along. Well, she definitely likes to make fun of herself when talking about in her plane, I had it all going on bad hair bad teeth bad clothes, and the only thing I care about whether my jump shot would ever Mack my triple driveability. She does she downplays herself. She doesn't think she wasn't. You know whatever she wasn't the greatest player. You know she was more of a thoughtful player than a an athletic player that sort of thing. Yeah. I mean she's very self deprecating even about her broadcasting career, which is just hilarious. But again, that's what makes Dr. Stars is that she doesn't take herself too seriously. How did she get her start in broadcasting accidentally which I think I can relate that myself but in her circumstance she was coach she went back to providence to be a coach but then she got married and she got to look around. You know this was back when there weren't a lot of. MOMS that were coaches, you know a lot of coaches, maybe one or the other they couldn't do both and she really thought I want to start a family. So she stepped away from coaching and by Dumb luck at the same time Providence decided you know what? We could put a couple of women's basketball games on the radio and we need somebody to do the radio for us and Ella Dar's. You're sitting there. Why don't you do this and she did and she jokes pie five people are listening you probably honestly not wrong. Let's be honest providence women's basketball and some regional network probably not like drawing huge numbers but she loved it and it was easy and it was comfortable and that just sort of Begat one opportunity after another and an big break came because one of the men's basketball. Analyst for the Big East Games couldn't make it into a providence men's game and they were desperate and that she tells us hilarious story was at the emergency room with her son. He had fallen off the weight bunch cut his head open blood everywhere. She's GONNA to bloody shirt and they told her to come down and do play by play and she said, well, I can't play by play but I'll do the color and boom she's on TV and there she. Is I mean no intent to climb some corporate ladder it just sort of opportunity presented itself and she took it.
