"And we have to remember that we are all strangers to everyone. And I think that that is it, you know? The Internet has no clue who I am at all. Literally has no clue. And I've learned this even more by meeting people that are other artists and being like, oh, I had no idea this was who you are, and that means that neither does the world. Because everybody is a stranger, always. I really short answer to this question. Internet says I'm 5 5. I'm 6 feet tall. I'm comfortable. They're confusing you with the manager Billy was talking about. That's right, man. Yeah, they're pretending that they're hitting our manager 6 feet tall. He's 5 5, I'm 6 feet tall. So if you woke up tomorrow and realized that this had all been sort of a dream, the last 6 years, right? You had an uploaded the song to SoundCloud, let's say. How would you feel? What would you want to do with your life if that happened to be the case? That's a I hate that I hate that idea. Because I don't know, I would be really really fucked up by that and really upset and depressed. Because it's not just like, this is my career. This is my entire life. There's nothing in my life that doesn't have to do with the career I have. And that doesn't mean my whole life is based. It's all about music. And Billie Eilish is just that opportunity and the reality of everything of what it's part of everything in my life. We're so lucky but it's also in addition to all the luck. It's the 6 years straight of just like working our asses off and getting to accomplish the things that are like our lifelong dreams. So it would really just be getting all of the best parts of our life taken away as what it would really be. Yeah, but then but then getting a lot of better things, though. Also, lots of more freedom and privacy and maybe some more.

"And, you know, that song that I wrote because of that, even if it never comes out ever, I'm so, I'm so glad I had that song to write because it helped me process all the emotion that I was feeling from this event. Do you know what I mean? So it's like, it's not what I didn't think was oh, I'm so glad I have an inspiration for a song. That was like, how do I process what I've just been through while I'm going to write a song about it and then even if I put it in a box and no one ever hears it, I know how I felt because I was able to write these lyrics about it. Well, you anticipated exactly where I wanted to go next, which is do you I was going to ask, do you guys each find songwriting, cathartic? Is it the most famous example I guess among people who know about your work is everything I wanted. We don't have to rehash what led up to it, but did you feel better after doing it? That's what I'm curious about, Billy. Yeah, totally. I think that the thing for me that feels the best is like what finneas just said, like, the song that he's referring to, it was so because I've heard it and you know, it's not out or anything. But that was so specific to a situation whereas everything I wanted was very broad. There was a lot of things that happened within two years that led to that song. So it wasn't really about a specific situation. So that song wasn't super like, oh my God, thank God, I got this out of my system. It's really helping me cope, because it wasn't like a specific thing that happened. But the second verse of that song absolutely felt like a coping mechanism and a very satisfying cathartic thing. But then, you know, that's just like specific lyrics. But I also tend to be much better at writing about things I that happened, not the things that are happening, I tend to not really know how to write about stuff that is happening. And I mean Finney's actually talk about this a lot because it's really hard to know what the hell is going on right when it's going on and to articulate it. You know, somebody asks you how you're feeling. You're like, I don't even know, but it's a lot of stuff. And then when it's over, then you can think back.

"Hi everyone and thank you for tuning in to a very special 415th episode of awards chatter. The Hollywood reporters awards podcast. On the host Scott feinberg, and my guest today have only been on the scene for the last 6 years, but they are already two of the biggest pop stars in the world. With their music streamed and videos played, literally billions of times. They're already instantly known by one name in the way that Madonna prince and Brittany, but few others ever have been, and, in a freak odds defying occurrence right up there with one family producing arguably the two greatest women's tennis players of all time, these two happened to be siblings and best friends. Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell. Described by NPR as two of the most influential artists on earth right now, their collaborations, most of which have been recorded in O'Connell's childhood bedroom, have been co written by the two, produced by him and feature vocals by her, starting with the 2015 SoundCloud upload ocean eyes, then the 2017 EP don't smile at me. And subsequently two albums, both of which debuted atop the billboard 200 chart. The first was 2019s when we all fall asleep, where do we go? At one point, 12 of its 14 songs were simultaneously on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, along with two others by Eilish for a total of 14 besting by one Cardi B's record for a female artist. The album's 5th single, meanwhile, bad guy became her first song to top the Billboard Hot 100 dethroning Lil Nas X's old town road after it spent a record breaking 19 weeks in the top spot. And making Eilish, the first artist born in this millennium to have a number one song on the Billboard Hot 100, and the youngest female artist to do so since lord, with royals. Just the year after its release, the album was ranked among Rolling Stones 500 greatest albums of all time. The second album released in July was happier than ever..

"Celebrity. It is Addison Rae. Do you know who she is? Not my demo, but yes, I understand who Addison Rae is. Right. So she was like, and then number two TikTok popularity person. I just sounded like an old when I said that. But you know what I mean? She's a creator on TikTok who got famous when it was still musically because she did a lot of lip syncing in those dances that were like hot like four years ago. And then parlayed that into TikTok. And now an actual singing career. So I had one of those zoom celebrity group meetings with Addison Rae. I am fascinated. I can not relate to this woman at all. First of all, she's 20. And I don't think you're supposed to. I think it would be a problem if I think we'd have to have a talk. Well, I really say on that note, Billie Eilish isn't that much older. And I was standing there. I related to her a lot. I watched her documentary. I find her talents, very impressive. I like her values, but Addison Rae, I just don't think I align on her interests or values. Billie Eilish transcends. They're not even in the same. I wouldn't. They are. Except that they both have fragrances. I just was fascinated at what it says about culture that this woman is the most popular probably person with a 20 something young 20s and teens. Anyway, so she came out with a fragrance line. Let's talk about the fragrance design. Because I actually think it's pretty cool. I'll tell you that. Here's why. First of all, the packaging, I brought some show and tell for you. Awesome. Here's the packaging. It is, hold on, let me hold on to it. Okay. Wait, hold on. Orb? It's an orb, yes, but I'm not showing you well because there's a heat component to this. And as we all know, I have raynaud, so I have like corpse fingers. So they're cold all the time. Hold on. Did you see? Okay. Yeah,.

"His family. Thank you for bringing it up. Because mark york should be recognized for the tremendous work that he did and it is a great loss. All right in the episode. With jennifer fisher. It's possible that she and i may have briefly. Mentioned an idea that steve had for an office reunion. So daniel kelly says how do you let her. Drop that. Info about steve's idea and bury it like. Oh yeah. I've heard steve's idea like the world knows what you speak and brushed aside like the crumbs of cookie Look first of all it. Steve's idea if steve wants to talk about his idea. That isn't a reality at this moment. Then steve can't. Let's just say that the idea does happen. What would you wanna know. Wouldn't you want to be surprised. And if you don't wanna be surprised. I can tell you this. Nbc wants you to be surprised so neither nor myself. He's going to reveal steve's idea i'm very sorry but the point was there is an idea. And it's really good sean. H. m. talks about wanting well very specific new episode dude. We're loving the podcast. But you know what we also want an episode where we talk to brian and get to know everything kevin. We can't wait to hear you. Tell us everything about your character. You know that is an idea sean. It has been talked about a little but not for a while. So who knows but who would talk to me or would i have to talk to myself and would that be a disaster. I don't know thank you for the input. It is dis- it has been discussed so we'll see you can take total credit if we end up doing that. Drew papu us. I'm sure that's wrong. Writes this podcast. Bring so much joy to my work commute. You're the man at bb baumgartner. You're damn right. I am drew pooches. And because you said that. I'm really sorry that i butchered your name which i definitely did So steve and i talked about the director sandwich which is when a director compliments and actor then tells them what they're doing terribly wrong and then gives them another compliment to soften the blow so michael george rights. I had to laugh when you were talking about the director sandwich. Because i'm a teacher and we do it to usually an e mails to kids parents. We call it a shit sandwich. Glad to know they do it other places. Nothing made me laugh harder. Maybe throughout this entire podcast. Recording experience than steve talking about the director sandwich. Because it's so true. And now i'm going to need to go and look back at emails from teachers about my kids and see if i can find to shit sandwich there and if there is well it probably means my kid. Did something wrong reverend. Beebe which is not me to be very clear. Here's my question because i'm curious. Was it always the intent to do both podcasts. or was it just. Hey we have all of this useful stuff left. Let's do it. Great question reverend beebe. It was always my intention. Yes from the very beginning. The first person we interviewed was rain. Wilson and i had even brought it up before then like i think. We're gonna want what we're going to get more material than we want because an oral history of the office was My math is bad. But let's say eight to ten hours Something like that. And i sat down our very first interview with rain wilson. We sat down for over. Two hours and immediately was like whoa. We can't use all of that. And he said so many amazing things so yes. It was always our intention to release more of the full conversations because we knew we had way more or we were going to get way more than what we needed for an oral history of the office. But thank you for the question. Joe bangles rights to me on twitter. Random question but do you have a favorite cheese chatter from wisconsin going to eleven rights to me regarding the steve carell episode. I love this episode. My wife has a theory on why young people love the office. It helps them feel less intimidated about being working adults. Just because you are a professional doesn't mean you have it all figured out. They recognized personalities from school in the show. I think i think. I think you're on to something going to eleven. I think you're going to eleven or you're going to a hundred or whatever the biggest number would be. That's very interesting. yeah. I not specifically thought about being less intimidated seeing people who work in an office later on not not kind of having it all together and figured out. But that's i think that's a very very interesting theory. And yes i do. Think recognizing personalities from their other classmates and the structure of class versus. The office was so similar like an unreasonable teacher. Who makes you do unreasonable. Things very similar from michael scott making his office workers do unreasonable things. Laura be harsh field sir beck rights. I will say my eleven year. Old son knows every episode and what season finds all the mistakes. and little extras. I have missed. I asked him why he likes it. And it's because the characters talk about real life and he thinks it's real. He knows it's not really a documentary. But it's what he thinks. Being adult and working is like which shows how great the show was done. Well laura all i can tell you is. It is indeed what we were going for. The reality This sort of ultra reality of Not just making a documentary or how. A documentary was shot but in terms of the behaviors and interactions of the characters. So thank him for watching and for being so interested and Thank you for clearly. Raising a great son and fan of the show. Kristen she he writes. I'm loving the podcast. Currently going through chemo. And the office and your podcast has provided me with so much joy during this difficult process. God bless you kristen. I hope you get better soon. And thank you for listening and for watching and again. i'm. I'm so glad that us crazy. Band of nut heads have given some relief to what you are going through. Pam jill from the randall. Einhorn episode rights. What does he key grip slash grip do well they grip it and a key grip. I mean clearly grips the key. I think bc. Jim dad rights brian. Did you just hear aaron rodgers in the match. Tell charles barkley if you just beat brian. Baumgartner in tahoe he'll be happy yes. I did hear that. And i attempted after being sent the clip of it from tahoe where i was getting ready to play where he wasn't. I did attempt to communicate. Because i felt like i was brought up on air. I should have a chance to respond. So i attempted to contact. Charles barkley and aaron rodgers and well not really antique. Because i didn't know how to get a hold of anybody there. But i tried to be able to respond. They ignored phone calls. So nothing unusual about any of that. Robert mccarthy forty two rights. I'd love to know some storylines that just missed making it into the office. There must have been a bunch of great ones. Ps love the podcast. Thank you robert. The one that springs to mind. I know we talked about or were about to talk about on an episode pet day. Pet day was actually to my knowledge. The only written script that we never did there was a fully written script. And i think it just kind of get kept getting pushed and wasn't done. There may have been some animal activists that would not have been happy about that episode. I don't specifically remember the content but pet day was the title and there is a written episode of the office that i read at some point very early on that has never ever been produced veggie the memer rights just a question. What is your favorite scene. You've ever played as kevin malone by the way you're my favorite actor person in the series well veggie. You're amazingly smart number one to my favorite scene ever. I mean. i guess. I'm supposed to say the chili. Seen to be my answer. So i can say that or i can answer differently. The scene with amy ryan at the vending machine where she is counting money into my hands. that's the one that i remember being for me the most difficult to not laugh because of her sincerity and sweetness and how it was written her performance. All of it I remember that scene. And then now that i'm thinking even more maybe the basketball. I mean i made thirteen in a row and primetime and who's done that. Not not many people ever have done network. Primetime made thirteen in a row from the free. Throw line extended. So that's a possibility as well. Nick hamby on apple. Podcasts writes a great podcast. Love the podcast. I've watched the office forty four times through during my wife's pregnancy. We watched it so much that the first song that my son reacted to the intro to the office loved the show and pod. Great well nick. You might win. I don't know forty four times is a lot of times. I don't know that i could count that. I will tell you a funny story. Billy irish who we talked to told us at the time That we talked she had watched it. Fourteen times through there is some discussion. She has watched it at least one more time since but fourteen times through and i remember writing about that on social media and i can't tell you the number of comments that i got that was like fourteen emitter. She's not a real fan. And i'm like fourteen. Times is a lotta times like you got. You can't dismiss fourteen times as an as a number of times so but forty four nick. Congratulations you are officially as of this moment in time. You're the highest watcher. That i have heard of so congratulations. And i say over forty five. It's a way way better number and there you have it folks. Another mailbag in the well in the back huge. Plus you know who you are. Am i right all right so on that. Note our very first question. Well maybe less of a question that an ego boost a listener wrote into say super excited about the podcast. Kevin was my favorite character on the office. By the way. Here's the ultimate compliment. A comedian can receive. You made me laugh so hard that i actually developed a nose bleed. The isolation seen in the wedding episode was hilarious. Thank you well thank you. I appreciate. I have been told by many people over the years that they cannot use public ice at a hotel slash motel because well. They're afraid my feet was ended. Lupe pause rights. Can you one of these days on the podcast. Talk about the opening scene stress relief. This is the episode where dwight starts the fire. Drill it is one of the funniest episodes slash openings. And i think we'd all love to hear how you guys felt filming that so Stress relief was the episode that aired after the super bowl. If you've found the show on netflix you wouldn't know that I would say it is not only one of my favorite openings of show. It's one of my personal favorite episodes. I think part of that has to do with the fact that it it did air right after the super bowl and well i'm a big football fan There were two openings to show that we had the most rehearsal. It was the most almost like doing theater. There was the lip dub open. Which was all one takes had to be done one. Take the camera moving around the office and also the opening of stress relief. I mean there were so many elements that happened in shooting that we had cat. Wrangler 's we had two different sets of broken glass. Kevin vending machine and michael with the exterior window. We had copiers smashing into doors and things breaking or having the potential to break. It was so much fun. Filming that scene culminating with stanley of course Having a heart attack so thank you for your question but yes for me. Personally i would say my favorite cold open on the show on islam rights sir. I'm a really big fan from bangladesh. Really love your podcast wolf. I am so happy that we have listeners in bangladesh. Thank you and i'm i'm hearing. We have lots of listeners in india and across europe. Thank you all wherever you're listening. Thank you so much for listening. Walter burn rights. Kevin malone had a little black and gold helmet on his desk with an m. on the side of it. What football team does that belong to. I have no idea. I i really don't i. I never found out. It was there the whole time and in fact it might have been borrowed from. Nbc by yours win. The office ended. And i guess that makes me really terrible actor like not doing character study. I don't don't know what team it was from. I really don't but i'm guessing a small college. It was not. I don't know i'm sorry walter. Burn ooh it's crazy. "On the world stage in a way that would be incredibly difficult for any human being of any age to deal with and she's speaking about it in really frank way in a really kind of sonically striking way that still feels universal. That still speaks to what young women everywhere are going through and that is such a tricky line to walk because it's very easy for huge stars to sing about being huge stars in ways that really feel unique to them and this manages to feel distinct to billy eyelashes experiences but have larger resonance for millions and millions of people. Let's actually here a little bit of that song. I lamb who decides that makes me what that means his my value based only on your perception or is your opinion of my responsibility. There's a lot going on in that song and on one hand it's very blunt it's pretty literal but it is also capturing a lot of the themes of this record just about going through the world constantly examining your own place in it and constantly having your own self examination bouncing off of other people's perceptions of you. It's very very striking song. And i think that excerpt kind of speaks to some of the real quietude of this record where. She's speaking very loudly in a whisper. In ways that. I think are very very powerful. I think it's an interesting check because it was the one track that really pissed me off for completely different reasons. It's like me wild understand that she was talking specifically about a fat phobia in how everybody's been perceived and i feel like billy has a very interesting relationship with surveillance and throughout this entire album like the watchful eye and the judgmental mind like billy tries to navigate like where she falls on each end but this track specifically. When i was listening to it..

"See in here in a lot of these tracks happier than ever you know issue happier than ever i think so you know. She talked about having a lot of fun working on this album writing this album producing this album. She released a post on instagram. I think being like you know this is the best experience. I've had making record that type of thing but she's turning out on. Its head to in this song. You know she's saying like i'm happier than ever. And this is my kind of like to make a recent comparison. This is my good for you song gazon. I think that we see that throughout the album. I think again like oxytocin. I'm seeing a lot of that. She she really went back and kind of like made an interesting sound there. That's both like deviating from what she's had before. But also like is true to billy and that she is playing with form. She's playing with that production. She's something that is not necessarily what we would describe as being characteristic of her but is nonetheless form breaking an interesting and in that sense to her gold wing to really interesting to me. I was raised in a very. The mexican. catholic family went to mass every sunday. So i hear those kind of like church s coral sounds and that's immediately evocative for me. Hearing i mean she goes from the coral kind of sound and then she totally switches. She totally makes a difference out in there. And i think like she talks about on her kind of like spotify exclusive little thing that she did. She did like lyric version of billy version. Kind of credit different listening experiences..

"Welcome back latisha ice. Even thank you. Thank you and also we have ana. Maria sayer producer for latino. Hi ana maria. Hey how's it going. It's going well. I'm so glad you guys are both year. So billy island has kept busy since the release of her first album. She's put out a handful of standing singles including everything. I wanted which one record of the year at this year's grammy awards her james bond theme no time to die won a grammy and is likely to figure into next year's oscars race assuming it ever comes out now. She is back with a new album called happier than ever. These songs are entirely homemade. They are written and performed and recorded by just two people that it'd be billy irish and her brother phineas o'connell who's a producer and multi instrumentalist and engineer not to mention a singer songwriter in his own right. The two of them made happier than ever. During the pandemic. it's existence was basically made possible by the fact that they couldn't tour and it feels appropriately. Interior this is a headphone record. That touches on heartbreak and self acceptance and societies treatment of women the perils fame sonically and thematically. It feels to me like a departure from the album. That made billy alicia star. That album delved really deeply into anxiety. And coming of age this one grapples more with fame and bad relationships as seen with the benefit of perspective speaking of the benefit of perspective..

I mean i think she's very capable of articulating some of the anxieties of of the moment for your for your arms behaving. I mean i. I mean i say the is ironic. Say the least because this is not a happy record really said I mean a lot of. It's about haram fame. In rather indulgent. The what might be considered an indulgence by when she's really just talking about specifics of her life. I mean the the opening tried getting older. Which says you know things. I once enjoyed now. Just keep me employed the sense of the jaded nece. It's his nine hundred. Eighteen nineteen year old. I do personally find. Her voice sometimes bit grating that slightly wispy global stopping host lily allen way of singing the tends to great but i found myself in the end often one either by some of the lyrical content and some of the arrangements as well as the that. I don't think it's a record. I would kick back to of of an evening regularly on my instincts. Heresy to see how helps me because the first album is so enormous and he became innocent so ubiquitous. And this seems like a song overheated on it. Which could be. It could be a statement about her own career. Was angie the luck of the irish. Don't you i. i think she couldn't cook in. I think it'd be rather all fifty four year old blow to find someone like bill is speaking them. Excuse we say why do you think she's a good thing. Now what am i is. How under undemonstrative she is. How do mega-pop. it's so much. The lingua franca. That is enormously refreshing. When somebody wants to do micro pop eliciting nano papa in this case almost like as sorts of months earnings. What's the Billie Eilish story? Is she gonna get canceled? I I don't know. This is really stupid. Cancel culture really is just lazy and dumb. The people are going after her because apparently she made some videos on social media when she was 13 or 14, where she use she used accents that some people consider offensive And then she was singing along to a song and she mouthed a racial slur. That was she didn't even say it. She mouthed it. Apparently, that's problematic. So she groveled. She says. This song was the only time I ever heard that word as it was never used around me by anyone in my family regard talking about the inward regardless of my ignorance and age at the time, nothing excuses. The fact that it was hurtful and for that I am sorry. Quit groveling. Time out a second. So I want to make sure I understand this. So she's listening to the song and she looks at the camera when the n word. Is said in the song and she miles along to it without saying it. Yes, And that's the problem. Apparently that go screw off with that. And she's 30. You kidding me? Right? Please buy my music. Listen to my music of Don't mouth the lyrics. Not with that privilege. Shove off. Who are you? The 2021 Oscars' Best Original Song Nominees
"Get to this year's oscar nominated songs in a minute but before we weigh in on those songs and their chances. Stephen can you talk a little bit about the common themes we've seen from some of the oscar winners and nominees of the last few years. Well each year this category has been a different kind of mixed bag. Depending on what sort of movies are coming out. In a given year you often have a song or more from disney musical. You often have a song from a big blockbusters like all stars from black panther from a couple years ago. Big songs from big movies often wind up making their way into these nominations. And then they'll be mixed in with. Sometimes it's a song you've never heard of by an artist you've never heard of from a movie you've never heard of so. It really is a very very mixed bag from year to year with some recurring themes diane. Warren is very often nominated as a songwriter very often. Especially in recent years. You have a lot of songs that i call for lack of a better term. Glory corn so named for the song. Glory by common and john legend from movie. Selma a few years ago songs that play over the closing credits of movies about social justice all of which have titles that kind of together to form this. I will rise and fight and raise my voice to stand for you and so this year is a little bit of an unusual year for a bunch of obvious reasons. Many of them related to the pandemic. You didn't have a big disney musical so you didn't have a let it go into the unknown big disney banger. And you didn't have a lot of blockbusters you didn't have for example. No time to die. The james bond movie which had a theme song by billie eilish which came out which was pretty well received. And i think would have been a shoe in at least to be nominated and probably win. Had the movie actually come out and thus been eligible so that has kind of opened this year's field to what has turned out to be a whole lot of glory.
Parler ban pushes random app 'Parlor' to top of app store charts
"All right well. I don't know if you guys saw this. But there is a new app that has been skyrocketing to the top of the charts and the google play store and apple. You guys know what i'm talking about. It's called parlour. Now you may be talking about parlor a. r. l. He are the app that has been scrubbed from humanity for the internet for breeding ground for organizing hate groups. I'm actually not referring to that parlor. I'm referring to the parlor that's spelled p. a. r. l. o. r. which people mistakenly thought they were down other parlor. The oh this great tight. It's existed for over a decade and has just gotten rid floating out there until their name made the news and people started downloading. It mistakenly thank you. They don't mike god. It looked like a swing at a really kind of convoluted idea. Like this is their their their tagline. The first and only social network. It's clear mud. What it does guy says the first and only social network so evidently about ten years ago a developer had an idea for what was essentially like a kind of a chat roulette type of situation where he would listen. I do not want to disparage whoever invented. Par lower This one that because they're having a lot of success right now guys are blowing up one day and we're like what is all what is it didn't take off when they launched a decade ago. It's terrible i guess. Who wants randomly get on a phone call with somebody like that's what it does. You can go into these different topics in rooms. Like say it's clubhouse. Yeah yeah like here for example. Let's say. I wanted to go into the vip fan clubs room. I will randomly be on the phone with like another billie eilish fan. Hypothetically there aren't a lot of active users. You're probably a couple reporters downloaded dry out. The few people that got on the phone with somebody. They got hung up on almost immediately. So it's a it's a very odd apu was a big swing. Just didn't work out but the developer never removed it from the stores right now. Theoretically there's a lot of very angry right wing radicals making random phone calls and a hud dated web. One point zero like it's it's totally janke. It looks like an old like wanna be my space from a decade ago. That barely functions. So congratulations parlor shirt day. He has finally arrived. maybe people are using it. Maybe it'd be like hey man. I was actually accidentally downloaded parlour. Good condo in the vip clan or the celebrity users vertical which there is one where you can evidently talked to celebrity users. Those unclear what celebrities are using it. Hypothetically if you were celebrity downloaded the app go right there because plug you up with the fans. So
