You've hosted tv shows before and you've been in front of the camera plenty of times but what makes hosting the bill music awards a little difference i think the billboard music awards is such an amazing celebration of the last year music You know it's an incredible thing to get to take time out especially this past year and a half to to just celebrate great music and wonderful artists and an honor legacy artists in the way the billboards do and i've been so so many times as as presenter as a nominee but to be asked to host is is just another layer and i feel really honored and excited to get out there and do it on you. Know as you said you've been a nominee before and a winner along with your brothers. Why why do you think the billboard music award is especially important to artist winning one of those awards. I think the billboard awards a to an artist because it's sort of encapsulates your chart achievement honestly in and it's always an artist's dream. I think to to be on the hot one hundred or The billboard two hundred you know these are things that you dream about as a kid you grow. I did at least rebuild magazine and loving seeing kind of the the different artists that would make an impact and to have something to commemorate. That is really incredible and i. I've always loved. "To help and You know, I remember when you're at the Billboard Awards Billboard Music Awards. I had to take a kid Jason's RJ. Thank you calling Jason Jacob's age with me because I didn't know half the nominated artists. I really didn't but I needed to pretend idea. At least you know, come off on the air like idea. I needed some education quickly. And it was so funny. You know, I'd be standing there and I assume I remember this is the day is long. Leans into me, and he says that's Coolio. And like Mr Coolio, Mr Coolio, can you come talk to us, please? Mr Coolio and looks like he gives a strange faces paradise. He just goes. It's just Coolio. I'm like, Oh, good. Okay. Good. Okay. Thank you. So, Coolio, are you excited about your nomination tonight? You know, and then I have to go from there. Key to it is always waiting for their answer, As you know is someone who does interviews. You wait for the answer. You formulate the next question, And then you kind of start to put together. Quick profile, right? And that's you have to do it on the fly Selectivity, Hamish. One thing I picked up on her right away. It was just how down to earth she is. And I genuinely had a good time sitting and chatting with her. It made me want to just go out to dinner with her and just hang out and just have some drinks and have some food and I'm telling you, she was a lot of fun, and I just I was kind of looking forward. In fact, that's kind of like to get off this show so I could go back down there now, you know, and I got it. I got to take the pact that was from Christmas of last year. Okay, that wasn't from the things because when I pulled up the audio with some from Thanksgiving, us from Christmas. But, um, But that's what's so cool about the laugh factory because you'll get people like Tiffany and Dane Cook and, um You get was it Don Moreira, Uh, you get some some older comedians and legends and you get these younger comedians and they all come together and they're helping the homeless and they're giving out the food and Jamie piece for it all out of his own pocket and has for many, many years peace for all of us at his own pocket. Last year. He also that was like the last week of the bus token in Los Angeles. He had bags and bags of bus tokens. He was going out to the hallways, given handfuls to the homeless thing here. You only got a week to use it because they're you know they were. I think they're going to all cars or whatever. And so that's just the way Jamie is. He's an immigrant. He worked his way up. He opened the laugh Factory has become an iconic place to perform, and he loves giving back and sort of the comedians. I gotta ask you this. This is a serious question. After you had your interview with Coolio, did you go back and find out who he was? Because he's actually Off a friend of a mutual friend. He is former husband and father of someone who works in radio. Not gonna put her out there like that. So we have some real stories of Coolio. Do you know who he is now? Oh, yeah. I knew who he was that night.
K-Pop band BTS scores huge hit on South Korea stock market in management firm's IPO
"And girl groups have been a huge force the music industry for decades Now, some came together organically childhood friends who met in church You're harmonizing street corners. Then there were those who were manufactured. Take, for example, Menudo or the Spice Girls. But in recent years no one has dominated the space quite like the mostly prefab pop bands coming out of South Korea. K pop, as it's known in the West is South Korea's biggest export worth about $5 billion and is expected to rake in more than 10 billion for the country over the next decade. At the moment. The biggest fan of them all is a seven person group known as BTS, who are enormous global superstars, and they flooded the American pop music scene in the past few years. And 2017 BTS was the first group from Korea ever to win a Billboard award. And just this past summer, BTS became the first all Korean actor hit number one on USS Top Billboard chart Top 100. With its first all English track called Dynamite. Shoes on remarkable mill. That's right. Get trump not unknown like a rotten things. When a market jump up to the cabin, the throne, think down coming on my phone. Nice piano, gamma pain. This'll be like money. And just yesterday they became the first K pop group to land on billboards. Rap albums chart. Okay, That's the music side. But perhaps the most interesting development in the bands. Cultural dominance recently is BTS and its label offered an AIPO on the stock market in Seoul. Those are the eye popping fax about K pop, But they're so are the reports of how these groups come to be, including how many are groomed from a young age, their lives dictated by managers and coaches who monitor their diets and they're dating lives. Joining us Now it examines the business of K Pop is writer and self described K pop columnist at Billboard. Jeff Benjamin, Jeff, Thanks for being with US Hello. Thank you for having me So just to be clear this AIPO is not an investment literally in this one band. So what did investors actually buy into Yeah, I think you know, really great metaphor when we're talking about the music industry in South Korea is kind of going back to that time of Motown or even the old Hollywood studios where it's not just one label that only distributes their music, but rather, it's sort of buying into the larger vision GTs is under a big hit entertainment. Which is ah, larger label talent agency that not only houses BTS to distribute their music but manages them handles. Their outside projects are the ones that are kind of developing more acts putting out their music videos. Working on their endorsement deals is kind of an all in one system where it's not just about the music per se, but rather sort of The larger entertainment aspects of all their artists, and that's kind of what the that's why you hear them called big Kid Entertainment versus Say, You know our Republic records or universal music. So people are buying into big hit entertainment. Exactly, And you know, that's just not even that's not even just BTS. BTS has, of course, sort of been the namesake artists that that people know especially here in America, You know, I think they're also buying into what the company has shown with their other artists, Thiss labeled big in Entertainment. They put out a second boy band. Already they've actually bought and invested in some other large K pop companies to sort of build up their roster. I think they're really trying to show that Hey, we're not one hit wonder. We're not just depending done this one group for our revenue, but rather were investing in things that even go beyond music. They have their other artists. Big Head entertainment has created its own technology sects, and they've been able to create different applications. Different ways to interact with fans be a fan club. They're doing a lot to show that. Hey, we air something that we have a lot to offer the industry and it's not just about One band one type of music, but rather so many aspects

Can Taylor Swift change the music industry?
"Ever since recorded music came a big business artists have been getting screwed by their record. Labels this is is not a secret. Ask anyone who pays attention to the industry and they will give you plenty of examples outside the industry though. It's not usually public book unless it really interferes with an artist ability to make music and even that it's never this public lately. There's there's been a new shift that has affected me personally and that I feel is a potentially harmful force in our industry and as your resident loud person I feel the need to bring it up. And that is the unregulated world of private equity coming in and buying our music as if it is real estate this it just happened to me without my approval consultation or consent you might recognize that voice it is one of the richest voices in the world. So yes Taylor swift can afford to take a risk. She used her acceptance speech when she got the woman of the decade honor at the billboard awards to to address her very public feud with scooter. Braun who is the new owner of her former label big machine and along with that the owner of dozens of songs thanks swift recorded early in her career. So what happens now. Is this a new precedent for the music industry with artists. Speaking openly about who Owns the art that they create or is this Taylor swift doing it. Because she's Taylor and she can and how will her former label and scooter bron fight back. Jordan Heath Rawlings. This is the big story. Amanda Kingsland is the National Music Director for country music stations on Rogers radio across the country. She's been following Taylor swift since Taylor. Her came onto the scene. Hey Amanda Hey how are you. I'm doing really well. And why don't we start with. Do you remember when you heard Taylor Swift for the first time time and what you thought I do remember actually i. It was the first few months I started here at the radio station. We received We received her album. I'm in an envelope With a bit of a plan it kind of came with this rap sheet that Said who she was and what the plans were for her. You know this would've been maybe early. Two thousand six. So kinda pre people sending you an email with all the details so it came in a big envelope and I remember sitting down and listening to it and I re I. Yeah I remember some of the songs thinking this is a little kid and I remember some of them thinking. These are incredible lyrics. I remember immediately really falling in love with the Song Teardrop Guitar. I thought it was really really smart. How for single Tim McGraw resonated and how they were able to use that to really get a foot in the door and country music and I remember being here at the station when the phones blew up asking who that girl was or who what who sings that song that the toxic Tim McGraw your she resonated with people immediately? And you don't see that a lot with artists you see having to play them a time especially in a time where social social media wasn't where it is now there wasn't a big social campaign or digital campaign to put her in front of people. They did that organically and it caught on so quickly. Where where did she come from? And how did she come up in the countryside of the business. We'll Taylor grew up in Pennsylvania on a Christmas tree farm which I always think is such a cool fact and just very authentic in the country lifestyle. I think to grow up in In the woods or growing your own trees Turned to songwriting really early and You know obviously her. The parents were super supportive and realized that she had a gift because they brought her from Pennsylvania to Nashville In the early two thousands when she was about thirteen she got a publishing deal with Sony at fourteen years old and then signed a record deal with big machine records from there and and you know she spent time writing songs and then did what you often hear. People people do and went from label to label asking to play songs for people in asking for a record deal. So that's sort of how things got rolling you know. She went up and down music row pitching her songs as a fourteen year old was at guitar and got told no over and over and over. So yeah I think that that's a really that's a very you know picturesque story. You would hear about somebody going up and down music row in Nashville asking. You know knocking on doors and asking to play their songs right. It's like the the quintessential central origin story. But then she signed with big machine. And what happened when she was just getting started with them. That matters now like why we're talking about it today. Yeah yeah well. I think that how big machine started is kind of important to this too. Big Machine was not a record. Label Pre Taylor Swift Scupper shadow left. His current aren't label. who wasn't interested in signing fourteen year old writing her own music which was a caveat in how she wanted to do things and so he decided to start big machine? Gene records Not launched with Taylor Swift. And you know I've I've heard Scott sister actually worked for the record label for years with us on the Canadian side and she told me about them sitting on the floor of an office space he had rented and there was nothing in it yet and he called in some favors from some other people in the industry and they actually were pudding Taylor's albums in envelopes on the floor in this office space and mailing them to radio stations hoping for airplay and that sort of how big machine started was with booth with Taylor. Was it talked about in those early days. When she signed that record deal which was two thousand six? was you know that part of that deal. Was that the publishing rights to the songs things that she was singing were owned by week machine. Every person has a different deal an every person has different publishing houses or how they get songs and how those are broken broken down as far as royalties go. It's all different for everybody so I guess you know at that time. It didn't really matter and then fast forward a handful of years in a whole lot of success excess and You Know Scott selling the label. which involves Taylor's music and the rights to that music? So that's how we end up here today. Eight were hearing this buzz around Taylor not getting to perform her own songs or Taylor you know not owning that music that we all have come to love and why. She's where she is today Eh. Can you explain a little bit about how those rights work. Because I think some of us who listen to music take for granted that different people might own the actual rights to a song. But I haven't heard ever before really of somebody not being allowed to play their own music so just so you know we can clarify that. Rights eight means copyright. It means you know licensed music and that means that the publishing rights would earn you money when it streamed downloaded put on a CD performed live heard on a radio station used in a television. Show anytime you hear that song whether it be live or recorded somebody Is He's getting paid because it's been licensed so that's what we're talking about when we say you know not owning the rights are not having the rights now because of a breakdown of how those come together and again it's different for a a lot of people in how much percentage they get of each category by category. I mean there's a lyricist or a songwriter. There's a musician who pulls out altogether. And then it's published through a publishing company who copyrights it who gets a percentage so You know Taylor's case. She may be collecting royalties as a songwriter air. But she doesn't own the rights to those songs and doesn't get to control Unfortunately with those albums released with big machine she doesn't get to control when those songs are used because she's she doesn't have those rights right so they can sell them to a commercial and she can't do anything about that right now now as far as I understand if they were to do that she was still get a portion based on being the lyricist songwriter. But she doesn't get say on how it's used. So how did this escalate into the kind of public feud that we've been following for the back half of this year. Well in my opinion Taylor swift is an incredible incredible businessperson and she. She always has been even when she was on. Good terms with big machine and sitting in those boardrooms. She was very active in the decision. Making so I don't know that not having the rights to these. These songs became a problem until she wasn't in that boardroom anymore. But she's always been outstanding to her fans she's cultivated. This incredible following she gives gives so much to those people who then she can in turn ask things of as well and when this became a problem for her she was able to turn to her fans through her social platforms and let them know what was going on and request their support to get her to where she wanted to be. And you know as much as there's so many people have somebody opinions on this But quite frankly it's quite brilliant to who use this fan base that she has and that she's cultivated to get the results. She thinks that she deserves her. Needs to see and I think that's how we all ended up hearing about it. Is Taylor making us all aware And again that's one side of the story when Taylor comes out and makes aware of what's happening but it started with the company being sold or with majority sheriff of big machine being sold his scooter Braun And she was unhappy happy with that. And then she disclosed The publishing and how what the breakdown was and how. She doesn't have control over those songs. Everybody loves to hear her sing. So what is Taylor. Claiming she wants done like what does she say happened. and and how does she feel. She's been wronged. I've heard I've seen a lot of
Bra Fitting with Kimmay Caldwell
"Past thirteen years I have been officer I have fit people say women usually but it's people really need for a Bra Sizes Double H U N Cup I've seen a lot of naked people and I honestly the reason I stayed in it so long because it changed my life and then I realized I could change other people's lives doing stuff so for example I just like Gabriel was an actress when I was going to school I had a really bad image of my body I was like welcome to the club yeah I think that for me for me personally I don't really healthy able bodied but I was just like comparing it to like perfect looking images in magazines like airbrushed so I was so you know going through school and needed to get some money so this my friend was like Oh there's this bra shop opening up and I'll pay more than the eight dollars an hour that are making four selling shoes and she said skipped his ten and I was like I'm going to be rich this is our the American dream is alive this is also a million years ago but either way my first week is abroad oh I saw actual naked human bodies and I saw stretch marks in late just like my body and I also saw people after mastectomies in surgery I saw people pregnant I saw people after pregnancy is all supermodels I saw old women young women like everything you can imagine I was like Oh this is what bodies look like God it so I started being more thankful for my own body and then realized I can help other people do the same thing in the fitting room because every single person that came in there was but this this looks gross and I was like listen I didn't even notice that sounds like God I see what a we hate ourselves a little it honestly that's true a little bit everybody has the I'm not enough shame is a shame and I hate it and that's an issue is all about okay we aligned itself talk it out get it out push it out okay I like the push it out push it real good uh-huh oh did you see them on the billboard awards Salton I heard about it was it was heavy misinformation misinformation was it also vacation Oh you weren't watching missy Elliott was missy Elliott there do it was en vaux check they didn't really get their moment like they came out like joined in on a song and I was like can we hear free your mind would that be okay but they didn't but anyway sawn pepe they're flourishing in two thousand eighteen happy I'm very happy about their happy spend Ella you wanna come in and get your off in baby come on in let's deal at yes so I was totally excited to match you guys yeah because my life was forever changed win Kamei Komo came over to my New York City apartment now maybe four to five years ago well I have a confession to tell you a little bit about that four to five years she came over and purged all of my brassieres and told me that I'm wearing the absolute wrong side is that I had no idea about actually won this like prize at a seminar that you hosted I won like a raffle so that's how I got the hookup I want her yes and I didn't know that I was hoarding all of my Musical Theater Show Buzz because to Gabrielle that I was gonna use them again which I never did and there's a pile I mean I it's a picture with Veronica's my cat sitting all over like the twenty maybe bras she was like Nope Nope Nope nope I'm just telling you now Jack Yeah be prepared I'm pretty healthy in terms of like throwing out things that don't serve you anymore four but that's a semi new development in my adult life and it comes it's party adulthood nobody tells you you're going to throw your shit out yeah we're taught to be consumed immersed and be superficial and care about material objects so you buy things and then they don't serve you anymore and you don't want to get rid of them because of guilt I don't know what but I had a woman come over here and go through my closet and it was so enlightening and it did it hurt oh honey hurt she wouldn't she goes she'd hold as you go keep or get rid of it I go Cape and she go bitch you a four these she's isn't as good as the other one and you're right and I didn't miss anything she made me rid of honey throw out my shit I'm fine with it happened daddy I'm excited for you also I will tell you a lot of people hold onto old bras like gabby was saying like because they feel like they're going to wear them again it's like another time in their life they were reminds them of I actually had for a long time that was I remember wearing that when I went on a date with my house then or whatever and I'm like what the single souvenir terrible and speaking of like husbands and partners and whatever I sort of think of people who hold onto bad ause as like a bad boyfriend so it's like you know he was he used to be real cute and super supportive yeah and now like we're just not a good fit anymore and he's a little worn out and I'm not really supportive anymore and I lost you anymore I have yet he and you're not serving you're not worth it for me anymore and I feel about bras feel about men like I want a really supportive and attractive looking Bra I wanted to support an attractive looking man so like I don't WanNa man that's like really good looking but not very supportive and he also don't want to really support Brosnan last as long as men so I think you gotta you gotTa get rid of them every once in a while because baby now we got bad bras that's what we need to do for the intro this baby now back anyway I just make everything song Well where should we start so where should we start okay you're the profession another disclaimer that like this we would this is happening live I've not I know I know nothing about your boss is what you've been wearing nothing about your I n people can you kind of take a guess just checking out my flat chest I can but we discuss that the jumps that you're wearing right now is like you know oversize of the tops look I don't know but for some double ds under your so I was Gonna say I I have a game for US play okay what and I have a new bra it's amazing size do you think I'm wearing and I know the view is at home can't see me but you can go to my site and you can see me and guests to okay a safe thirty four C Gabby doing take a guess Boura little bit I just remember what I thought was extremely off so I use myself as an example all the time this is a thirty two double D look if I was a betting woman I don't really but if I was a betting woman every in the thousands of people that I fit for bras when they come in there wearing a cup size too small in a band is too big almost every time and believe it or not because of how sister sizing works a thirty four sees the same cup size volume which was your guest as a thirty two D. and so if we I was off I have I have a very sneaking suspicion that mine is Brown okay so the thing is here so what we're GonNa today I'm going to go through the war without you for civil talk about duty styles fit you anymore the good match for you still is he still like part of your life you want him in it and will also measure you and kind of see what you're starting point bra sizes with me and discuss what the heck that even means for the viewers readers list listeners hey yeah baby for all three for you people listening to us right now I'll give you some information like how you can find your own and then I don't have any new bras for you try and because I didn't know what size rights but we were going have you would be in information we go we go to macy's or something and then I try them on look at me and poke me and Chet yeah well get real fussy in there with you yeah basically I semi recently went through I think even this is probably after the first time you were in la I went through and got rid of and Ghassem New Bras and got some fancy like Ikea's little sectional thing so it won't be as bad as it would have been a few months ago radio there's this one bra that I wear and it does not fit me hasn't lie get it I get it listen datings hard I get it is worth only Kathy does she knows the transformative power getting a Bra that fits ditching the bad brush she gets that she knows she's been there she's a transformed woman I also like really appreciate you using the under neutral pronouns I feel like I should on that up of the top reason I was thinking women bras but you're right everyone needs and bras don't care who you are Oh they're just trying to help yeah so yes to that feeling is if you like the whole reason I even work with bras now is because this is a huge disclaimer I don't actually care era yeah whoa it's really because this part of the body is where your heart is right so if this if there's any kind of discomfort like bronchials me or shame the other two bigger to smaller copier whatever or my husband hates them or there's any confusion like what burroughs is do I even wear this I hope you at home can understand what's going on here I'm like caving because there's all this sort of shame and confusion and discomfort in lifted and understood and oh my goodness even loved and adored if you love and Adore yourself like heart

"Taylor SWIFT's dead member that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The phone. But then in the video the snake poofs away and becomes a hundred butterflies, and I'm like wait to Mariah gets a hold of that butterflies mariah's thing. The butterfly crown anyway. And then the visuals story is basically Taylor's no longer dark and hurt and snaky, she's reclaiming ownership avert later fluffier self. But always remember this with the Taylor swift song. She always does her first song is an outlier. It will never have anything to do with the whole entire album. So like on the reputation when she did look what you made me. Do it was hard edgy and see. And it was like all about how these celebrities did Horon, but really like out of that album, the fourteen fifteen songs only two of them were distracts. Right. So I don't we can't really say that me will be the you know, that she's the the fluffy. Well, and she doesn't with Brennan Yuri from this. Madonna is going to like avoid Taylor. Like crazy. "Billboard awards. I think they could do an all-star jammed this. I mean, if that sounds fun. That share had a bit of a time coming to chested. Admitted it did. Yes. She did. And I think it would be hard to come to you. And it's interesting to know it so early mostly I think it's hard to come to terms because you don't want anyone to be mean right here kid. I just even remember that with my mom, and my brother her I enrolled her in p flag, my brothers. My brother's like Jason's forty five and. He says it allowed himself. I think he's like forty is. He no, no he. Yeah. He's he's very open about his age. And but they're like the same age, and my mom was just like more that people are going to be mean to him. Right. And I think that's what a lot of parents, and you know, that was in the early nineties, and so I wrote her and p flag, which is parents and friends of lesbians and gays. Tab like his she was just like in them that was your number one Maury who people are going to be mean to my kid. So anyway, that's my idea for the billboard music awards. Just to an all star jam of everyday people. This another old song. I'd like to just, you know, not that it needs to be redone, but just for the lyrics. Yeah. Thank you Lorraine Roca. All right. Listen, we come back. It's time to Hollywood speak recently.
