"Just down from the Matthews office building as a matter of fact, and whether it's a ranch China North Korea Venezuela, Russia, Afghanistan, Bill Zimper, let's get an update and span the globe about American foreign policy. Yeah. And it seems like every day we get new developments on just about every frontally the developments this morning number one coming out of China where China has announced how they are going to retaliate to tariffs that have been raised on Chinese imports in this country. They say that they will increase tariffs from ten to twenty five percent on sixty billion dollars worth of US imports into China. So this is their initial reaction to the increase in tariffs here in the United States. Now it remains to be seen whether President Trump will throw even more chips into. Pot here by announcing as possible that we may raise tariffs on all Chinese imports coming into this country. So that remains to be seen. But in the meantime, the markets really reacting. The Dow struggles were at one point down more than six hundred points this morning. So we're seeing the effects of that already. Also secretary of state Pompeo just keeping track of him is a tough job these days. He was supposed to go to Moscow today canceled that stop instead went to Brussels to meet with European Union officials about Iran and the escalating situation there, but it may be a tough audience there since even before he arrived, the EU said that they want to maintain the Iran nuclear deal. They want to strengthen the Iran nuclear deal and urged everyone who is still a signatory to observe all of the provisions of the deal. So and they also urged they say they urge others meaning the United. States to reduce the esscalation in the Persian Gulf area. So that meeting may not go as wet at thought. And then he's going to go on to Russia to meet with their foreign minister, and maybe even bladder Amir Putin tomorrow. So not only are there a lot of different areas where we have things going on seems.

"Okay. Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong met face to face for the very first time. Bill Zimper, what is on the agenda for this meeting, and this meeting has conclude? Okay. Yeah. It include a ninety minute face to face second. Which was about twice the length that had been allotted and then a three and a half hour session involving delegations from both Russia and North Korea talking about a variety of issues, and it ended with smiles and waves Vladimir Putin, literally waving goodbye to the motorcade of Kim Jong UN as the session broke up, and according to MIR Putin, they talked about a number of things and had an open discussion about everything from sanctions to denuclearization to. Yes. The United States. So Vladimir Putin broke it down to this. He said that Kim Jong is willing to denuclearize North Korea with some conditions number one a security guarantee and number two some sanctions relief as well. So here's the question. The big question leaves his good news or bad news for the good news that may be flat. Amir Putin can get. Kim Jong UN on track to denuclearization when others couldn't. Or is it bad news that we have to adverse seem to have gotten along very, well and seemed to be on the same page. I also know Putin, and he doesn't I don't think he goes to the bathroom without there being some sort of political lean to it or slant to it. I I'm wondering if he wants to be able to show the world, see, I did the Trump could not do let's have vodka. Yes. And I think that might have something to do with it as well. And that was a very good accent. I think you're right. If Ladimir Putin is now saying, I'm I'm I'm the guy in control here. And maybe he wants to say to the United States want to let me carry the ball on this one. I might be able to get it across the goal line when you could not, and there are certainly some political geopolitical implications in that as well. So this will be an interesting one to follow along here. I'm sure that North Korea is pushing Russia to support them on the idea of some sanctions relief because they talk about things including pipelines going from Russia into North Korea through the Korean peninsula to South Korea oil and gas pipelines as well as infrastructure projects. Well, none of that can happen without sanctions relief as well. So there are still some chapters to be written in this book. But this certainly was in interesting turn in this one and the Chinese of they've been pretty quiet about this. They let any reaction out from under secrecy. We haven't heard any reaction from China as of yet, however bladder. Amir Putin is on his way to Beijing where he will next take part in the belt road forum which gets underway actually starting today and bladder Putin is the featured speaker there, so I'm sure he'll be consulting Jianping there. And it's also interesting there has been no reaction from the White House. As of yet, the president has been very active on Twitter this morning, but nothing so far about this summit in Vladivostok. I mentioned they're just waiting to see what's going to happen because I don't I don't know that there's anything more here than than Putin trying to make political hay out of it. I don't know that they came to any conclusions or anything, but thank you for the update. From your perspective builds them for from twenty four seven.

"AM Tampa Bay an editor to a CD here. Jack, Aaron Jeff and Natalie and at five forty one Bill Zimper onboard here, our NBC News Radio reporter, and one of the things that's happening right now, Kim Jong Hoon is going to get together with the Russians here for a little meeting. Oh, my Lord. He's going to be in trouble colluding with the Russians apparently Bill Jack good morning. And could it be that President Trump may have a little competition in his best buddy status with Kim Jong on? We now have confirmation that Putin will meet with Kim Jong UN both the Kremlin and North Korea's state news agency confirming that. Well, it could be very soon. In fact, it could be as early as tomorrow in bladder preparations are underway at the far eastern state university in bladder Vostok and reports are that Kim Jong UN is ready to get on that train and make the four hundred twenty-five mile trip up to relatively short run for him after he made that run all the way down to Vietnam in the train to visit President Trump so significant because it's the first face-to-face meeting between these two leaders and the first meeting of any Russian leader and any North Korean leader since Dmitry Medvedev sat down with Kim Jong Il back in twenty eleven North Korea. Of course, we'll be looking for support for their push for sanctions relief and Russia on the other hand. Well, Ladimir Putin, as you know, Jack loves to get involved in any situation where there are frayed relations with the United States like Syria like Iran like Venezuela and now North Korea these will sit down. Early tomorrow. And I guess there is potential for trade or for economic benefits for both countries. Well, they do share a short border between Russia and North Korea. And there are North Korean migrant workers who come across the border to work in Russia. So they do have some bilateral issues between the two, and of course, Russia would like to see North Korea's economy open up a little bit because they have some projects they would like to complete involving rail projects. And of course, the shipping issue already where Russia is reportedly violating sanctions already by making transactions with North Korea in violation of those UN sanctions, so yeah, Russia had something at stake here they like to improve their relationship with North Korea. If it comes at the expense of their relationship with the United States, all the better in Russia's view Bill. I feel like maybe I'm watching too much game of thrones right now. But I feel like this meeting is going to be on horseback. Both of them on horseback. Putin's shirts not going to be there. It's. Going to be gone. I wish I could have a microphone in there. I want to hear what's going on. Yeah. Let's let's hope that Kim Jong own doesn't show up without a shirt on then things get really ugly. Yeah. It's interesting that image was actually shown I think it was in the BBC website that it had a valid Ladimir Putin shirtless on horseback and Kim Jong UN fully clothed on horseback as well. "And as usual, I am up on social media love to chat with you either on Facebook or on Twitter. I'll try as hard as I can to respond while I'm on the air. But sometimes there's things going on. And it's difficult to do and a bunch to chat about today yesterday. I talked about that eighteen year old goes to a parochial school for those of us for mouth that means it's a religious school. Usually, it means he's Catholic, and he is eighteen and his senior year and is being banned from coming back to school for twenty one days because he hasn't had his chicken pox vaccination. And I basically said, you know, it's okay to have rigid religious beliefs. It's okay to not take the chicken pox vaccine. But it's not okay to sue the school for a policy that is designed to protect the rest of the students and did that I knew it would elicit some response. But I didn't know illicit this kind of response one of the one of the issues that the kid had with the vaccine was that he doesn't believe in vaccines. Because they quote are made from aborted babies and quote. To which I said, no that isn't how it's done. Anyway, that had a lot of reaction to get into that coming up on NewsRadio one thousand Katie. Okay. And let me repeat my wreck. My my my stance for the record. If you do not want to take vaccines, and you do not want your children to take vaccines. I'm completely fine with that. You probably better homeschool because just about every private and public school will insist you have vaccines for health reasons. And number two. I don't think you're very wise. If you choose not to, but we'll get into all all coming up on NewsRadio one thousand KT. Okay. I'm more pleasant stack. "Another announced candidate was on CNN state of the union, and she claims President Trump's rhetoric is dividing people don't think you can actually take each of the murderous acts and say what role Donald Trump played? But I can't tell you. This his rhetoric doesn't help real actually White House chief of staff. Mick Mulvaney, says it's absurd to suggest the president's rhetoric on immigration influence that mass shooting Friday at two mosques in New Zealand in an interview with Fox News Sunday. When pressed Mulvaney said people should take the deadly attack in New Zealand that left fifty people dead for what it is a terrible evil tragic act. President is not a white supremacist. I'm not sure many times we have to say that. All right. Let's get more on the investigation into that shooting in New Zealand. Joining us live down NBC radio national correspondent Bill Zimper. We know anything more about the gunman Bill. Well, he. He did make a court appearance over the weekend. Joey was charged with one count of murder. He will be back in court on April fifth where he will face many more charges as they are assembled. But he also fired his attorney after the initial court appearance and wants to represent himself in any further court proceedings in the feeling is he will use this as a forum do was fouls his extremist views as well. So, you know, we know a lot about the gunman and now police in New Zealand say that the gunman of the twenty eight year old Australian citizen was the only shooter in these two incidents at mosques, but he may have been supported by others to others will remain in custody. A fourth person who had been initially taken into custody has since been released, but we do know now that this the shooter sent out his manifesto seventy four pages worth to thirty people offices, including the office of the prime minister of New Zealand, and he praised a lot of people in that manifesto in. Including mass shooters in the past and including President Trump as well. But people caution they say this manifesto was worded to inflame and to get a reaction. So this manifesto is out there, and it really is some really severe rhetoric as far as this goes. So the way we go right now, Joe just to point out. We have fifty the death toll is at fifty thirty four people still are in the hospital nine in critical condition, including a four year old girl. "That of course is on Sunday. Got some staggering Saint Patrick's Day facts coming up for you before eight o'clock right now, we turn our attention to our good friends. San antonio. I news national correspondent Bill Zimper Bill would not might as well divulge. This information to our listeners who don't know. We don't always get an opportunity to talk to you before you come on the show. You can just take your Jesse smollet information and just move it off to the side and save that for somebody else because this is a jussie smollet free zone. And I'm getting real close to adding Laurie Lafon and Felicity huffman's name to the list. But I haven't quite got there yet. So talk to me about this class action lawsuit against a woman named Jennifer K. Toy is the first defile it. There will be others. I'm sure who are the defendants your well. The defendants are these number of schools, including Stanford Yale, Georgetown USC Wake Forest university of San Diego. University of Texas at Austin and these class action lawsuits, you right, Charlie are just the beginning here because you're going to have many many people jump on board here. Here's what they're saying their students either saying they were denied fair opportunity for admission to these schools that have been implicated in this scandal or have had their degrees. Devalued by these schools being implicated in in these scandals at seeks five million dollars right now. And that could go up. Another lawsuit is now out there filed by a parent of a student who had a four point two GPA can't get much better than that. This parent says that that her child was rejected by some of these schools. This suit is seeking five hundred million dollars, and there will be more to come. And while we don't want to talk about those celebrities involved. We've already heard about a lot about them. How about this other guy by the name of Mauri Tobin? This may. Maybe a name you're going to be hearing more about Charlie. He is the guy the blue this thing wide open when involved in his own legal problems as securities fraud case, he tried to get a little bit of leverage with prosecutors by saying, hey, I got some other information for you. I gave a bribe to the Yale women's soccer coach in order to get my daughter into Yale. That's what blew up this whole thing. And what he called operation varsity blues by the Justice department. This is just beginning. This is ready to explode. So Maury Tobin was or was not involved did this separately or was involved with singer. Well, no, he was not he did separately. Okay. Though, this coach this coach was involved with singer point. He went he decided to go out on his own and accept this bribe independently, and you mentioned that, you know, the class action lawsuit is not just against law from Hoffman and others, but the schools the schools is I remember it have not been charged by the FBI doesn't mean that they won't be so the soda overall. What are the chances of any of this, you know, winning any of this class action lawsuit? Well, I think there's gonna be some money paid out here. Eventually how much I'm not sure. But you could you could certainly see that. There is an argument here among students who say that maybe they were on just you know, they were unjustified Lee rejected from application to these schools or others. I'm not sure about the devaluing of the degree from these schools. But in many cases, you look at these Ivy league schools look at Yale. You'll get Stanford. You'll get your. Town. You're talking fifty thousand dollars a year plus to go to those schools. So a lot of people have laid out a lot of money to go to these schools. And if they say this degree, no longer carries the weight that it once had if they can prove that they'll be some money involved. Being the cynic that I am. No, this goes through what would prevent me from then going back to you know, where I went to college. And then looking up some information and finding five people who legitimately went to school, but then flunked out, and then I go and start filing class action lawsuits saying that they devalued my degree. Well. Good luck. If you're successful. Let me know I might try the same thing. Well, I if I if I'm successful largest put your name since it's a class action lawsuit. I put your name in their San Antonio. I news national correspondent bills them for all my years in the jury industry.

But there's a new report out and lo and behold, I guess unsurprisingly the report is all that encouraging about what the north has been up to right Bill. Jeff. Yeah. We keep looking for good news coming out of North Korea. And we're not finding it this. Is a report that came from the UN panel of experts a having to do with the sanctions on North Korea. They say the sanctions have been rendered basically ineffective by activists by North Korea. They say they've been increasing ship to ship transfers at sea of petroleum products tried to evade sanctions that way, maybe the most disturbing portion of this report, however has to do with North Korea's attempted arms sales. They reportedly tried to increase their activity on arm sales to Middle Eastern countries involving Syria as an intermediary. These sales reportedly were trying to connect to Yemen, and Libya and Sudan, and even perhaps Iran, so there are a number of disturbing aspects of this report, of course, when it comes to sanctions, Jeff you got to have a partner to polka. "Okay. Over the weekend. We heard a lot of things happening down in Venezuela. Bill Zimper is with twenty four seven news. And before we get into why it all happened. First of all Bill just review what indeed happened. Yeah. Well, we knew Saturday was going to be a big day because that was the day that the opposition. Interim president Widodo said he was going to get that aid across the border into Venezuela. They attempted to do just that the military stood firm in some cases, even setting some of the trucks carrying the eight on fire. I did not get across the bridges. And then you had clashes between protesters and the military on duty at the border of Venezuela. Several people were killed hundreds injured not only at the border with Colombia, but also at the border with Brazil where they tried to get eight across as well. But as of now that aid they say they claim that some got across. But we haven't been able to verify that right now the aid remains outside of Venezuela. And the military is standing strong in support of nNcholas Maduro. There were a little over a hundred defections, but for the most part the military is standing firm now, why is why does Venezuela not have supplies? I mean, I thought the socialist utopia was at the very least was at least gonna feed the people. What's what's going on that keeping the food from getting to the people? Well, they you know, they do provide. Some food to the people, but it's very scant. And it's because the economy offenders Waila is trashed the people there cannot afford to buy anything if it is available 'cause everything is just so expensive because of hyperinflation and the government has been cut off by other countries as well, it's tough to get a hold of supplies. And when you do it is so expensive that the average person can't afford it on like, I said, they have been providing food supplies to people sporadically, but they're very meager rations. So it's a very difficult situation. Inside Columbia, also medical supplies are almost non-existent. Now, other than the obvious reason Maduro would want to keep these supplies from getting to the people. So we can maintain control of the people other than that. What's his justification for good burning the supplies? Well, I think that he well his justification is that he said, we don't need your your aid. We're fine here in Venezuela. Although the evidence points. In the opposite direction. He says we don't need it. And we especially don't need it from the United States. Okay. And I mean, he's not worried that there's some sort of sabotage going on now. Although I wouldn't put it past them to think that that there could be something involved in that. But he his his stamps all along has been because he has accepted aid from Russia planeload of Russian eight came in his stance has been we don't want any United States involvement in the internal workings of Venezuela. That includes humanitarian aid bills them for on NewsRadio one thousand KT. Okay. Why should we care as the United States? Well, I you know, that's a good question. Because the United States has been this is this is kind of a departure for United States foreign policy where in countries like Syria and Iran and North Korea. We have said we're not interested in nation building. We are not interested in regime, change but in Venezuela. It seems to be a little bit of a different tack and it could be because they don't want. Any type of Russian or Chinese influence in this part of the world. So it could be a whole different thing when it comes to Venezuela as opposed to when you're dealing with a country halfway around the world. Are there countries neighbouring that we also want to make sure they remain stable like Colombian Brazil? Absolutely. And I think that Colombia is a is a big ally of the United States as his Brazil with our new president. Who is really they call them the Trump of the tropics models himself after President Trump. So the United States would like to see those countries remain stable. I'm not sure Venezuela is a threat to those countries. "It's hard to top a hill. The state of the union address. Now it was last week. That Nancy Pelosi was suggesting we should prowess pony because we don't have enough security to the president said, no what I'm gonna postpone your flight to live LA Vida loca over in Europe and Egypt and Afghanistan. And so today, we learn that Nancy Pelosi is basically insisting that there be no state of the union address at least in the house chamber. Towards the president said, oh, no. That's not going to stop me. We're gonna find a way to have it. The only question would be wear and win. Now, the constitution only says that he has to deliver a written state of the union like it used to be done back in the day to the congress. So that can be done. And once that's done. It seems to me they can have it anywhere. So that's what I wanted to ask. You we talked about this a little bit last week. If there was not to be a state of the union where should it be? And now that we know that they at least it won't be in the house chamber where shoot it'd be a four thousand star one thousand on NewsRadio one thousand Katie, okay? Plus, the real reason I've been hesitant to talk about this because I was waiting for all the details of these kids from Covington Kentucky, and what happened in Washington, and what they were accused of doing versus what they actually did do, and why that became such a media circus. I will tell you. And there's a very good reason why it's not a palatable reason. But it is the reason he gave you some insight insight into what's going on in the industry to proposals are in the Senate. But will they do any good to stop the impasse and open up the government again? And we'll talk that over with Bill Zimper and Michael Barr who are in Washington DC. And have the unique perspective that's all coming.

"Radio one thousand KT. Okay. The Leigh Matthews eight four. Oh, one thousand star one thousand the stripper in Florida got arrested, but not for doing what you think I will tell you what coming up eight four thousand star one thousand also the president speech coming up at eight o'clock. We'll be carrying it right here on NewsRadio one thousand Katie. Okay. And Bill Zimper with twenty four seven news. The president may declare a national emergency to build the wall in this speech. But can he declare a national emergency to build the wall? The simple answer to that. Lee is yes. Yeah. He can he can deliver or declare a state of emergency. And but it's interesting how the whole evolution of this comes about here in our constitution. There is no provision for emergency powers for the president. So that has been up to congress over the centuries. Really so ads of the seventies. There were over four hundred statutes the granting special powers to the president in the event of an emergency. Now, congress really tried to hurt all those together. And maybe restrained things a bit in one thousand nine hundred seventy six when they passed the national emergencies act. However, that's still does not define win a national emergency can be declared, and what that national emergency is or could be so for that reason the president could declare a state of emergency based on the broad powers. He has his president. And even if you really drill down into the codes and sections. Subsections? He could mobilize money from the defense defense department to build a wall. So the simple answer. Yes. He can and Bill in his address tonight. If he does make that announcement, how quickly could something be turned around. Well, there will be immediate action. I don't think he's gonna make that announcement tonight. I think tonight is going to be a sales pitch for his wall. He is supposed to visit the southern border Thursday. I think if there's no resolution to this government shutdown by the weekend, then we may talk about it. But if that is the open question there, if he does that then what this may lead us into uncharted territory. No doubt and really kind of a deep dark tangled jungle of litigation and legislation that really could last for years. And. If he does do this does make this announcement with that then restart the government. I mean, that's because he will get his wall, I suppose so but then it that's a good question about that. Because it still would have to go through congress. Does this would I I mean with the Democrats? I don't know. I'm not sure how exactly that were. That's a great question. Right. Well, I'm led to believe that if he did do this Democrats would do something to stop it like you said, and and it would stop pretty quickly. So again, maybe this is just a sales pitch tonight to say, look, we need to do this for safety. Is he trying to get Republicans that might be wavering responding to pressure from their constituents to to to come back to his side. Yeah, he is just trying to build some type of following here in some type of support here for a border wall. Because that has been the big issue. He says that a number of federal employees who. May even be laid off at this point are supporting his efforts, he has provided no statistics to to support that. But an- Andy says the majority of Americans are in support of border security. So he is trying to basically gain support for this whole thing and to get people to call their congressmen and call your senators and say, hey, we have to get this done, and I want the border wall. So that's what tonight is all about. I it's interesting to see if the Democrats will be given equal time. I haven't seen any indication of that as of yet, but the requested it because they want to rebut the president. And they say it all comes down to the administration using faulty data for a lot of their claims. Well, I I don't know about that. But you know, I don't I don't I don't know that the president is is as is as fixated on a physical wall as he wants a political wall as well. A statement not only to Mexico, but to the world we will. Enforce our immigration laws. Yeah. And I think that's right. And I think that it is more of a political wall at this point physical wall at the border that any also wants to make a point that that hit the policies that he wants to promote are the ones because he is the president of the United States are the ones that should be given the most priority. So and of course, this is a long standing campaign promise as made. But if we go ahead here with the wall project, boy, this'll be a topic of discussion for some time to come. I agree and build Semper. Thanks for the update on NewsRadio one thousand KT. Okay. And we'll have to see what the president is going to do because we heard conversation right before I hit the air that that may not be part of the speech the declaration of a national emergency eight four thousand star one thousand on NewsRadio one thousand Katie. "I receive alerts on my phone. You gotta know what's going on locally in around the world, real news. When you wanted to know what's going on in my worst thing in the morning in pretty much all day, NewsRadio one thousand it's where I get all my new. KT? Okay. Radio one thousand K T O K Leigh Matthews and the drive a four zero one thousand star one thousand main topic is the president's speech a couple of hours from now you'll hear it right here on NewsRadio one thousand Katie. Okay. But should in that speech, the president declared a national state of emergency in order to build the wall? If so why why is protecting our borders racism as the accusation seemed to fly Chuck is holding in Oklahoma City on NewsRadio one thousand Katie. Okay. Hi, hey, I've got a crazy question here. Let's say he does up there. You know, state of emergency ward Alexi Democrats are gonna find a lawsuit over in the bites district to get somebody to lean in their way. Is there anything wrong with someone filing the lawsuit? This more conservative district conservative. Well, they can do that Chuck, but I'm I'm inclined to believe along with the lawsuit in the ninth district. Would come an injunction to stop it. And so once that is stopped you have to wait for the ruling to come from the ninth circuit before you can move forward. Well, that's what I'm saying. If someone was ready to file one in a conservative district before that one got filed out there, would it not be heard over into the conservative district. I'm not sure about that. But I do know that an injunction would almost immediately accompany at now could the president then take it to another judge again. I don't think so until the injunction is heard until the case is heard which would leave the wall down and not built. And that's exactly what the, and that's exactly what the opponents would want to do because they would want to keep this thing stalled, and then they would want to slow walk it through the election year. And then point to the president and say see he didn't know what he promised. Eric is in Choctaw, NewsRadio one thousand KT. Okay. My question is if he declares a state of emergency. And. Reopen. The government would that be a perception of strength or weakness on his far. This is what I don't understand Eric. I don't understand if he does work around congress and get the wall built what that does to the shutdown. I don't know if that opens the shutdown or what? Yeah. Because that would be a curve ball. You know, his his threat was okay. Democrats either give me the money. I want to to build the wall or I'm keeping the government shutdown. Would he then back off and say, okay, now, I'm going to open the government now that you know, I've worked around you. He probably could do that. And not suffer any political damage because he did what he promised. He would do. Yeah. That's what I was. I was wondering about that. I'm gonna ask I'm going to ask Bill Zimper about that. When he joins us here in a little while he.
