"Love it here G and radio That's it The legendary stardust cowboy paralyzed mercury records Yes Chicago's own mercury records release this in November of 1968 promoted at rock folk world and country And yes major Bill Smith published paralyzed That's the name of it By the way paralyzed And they were from what I could tell serious is heart attack And the legendary service cowboy of course wrote it under his given name who I think was Norman Odom if I recall But that is the deal The legendary stardust cowboy and if that isn't the worst record ever released I give up And I've heard a lot of bad ones but they were serious about that So yes that I think is the extent of Bill smith's legacy Yeah And he probably wasn't even ashamed All right James on the south side welcome back to WGN radio Well I was concerned if somebody was to have a way to wake them up Yeah And again you know it wouldn't have been so interesting if it wasn't on mercury And they promoted this Well I was going to thank you for playing our Patsy climb You know strange Happy to I was going to request on call me on your way down I also find I'll also when I read through the articles for four pages on Monday's paper arcade there was actually a lab gut in the hot water where supposedly kept okay and another state where they kept trying to retest some unqualified pot and try to enhance it so that it would have the right amount of kick to it I guess PHP fluid All right I would say I really the only weed I'm interested in my yard and basically put it over the cop Yes Well just don't use Monsanto and you'll be better off for it But according to the Chicago Sun-Times articles from what I can tell is what they really kind of discovered was that some of it's very moldy but no consumer alerts or recalls are going to be going to be made So I would imagine just don't really want to have I know I absolutely know firsthand about it Yes Yeah And I was going to say the well located already the next day I should say okay good morning as well In fact well yes Always good Good to hear from you James And we're going get to about 64 here Good Excellent Enjoy it while you got it Hopefully it'll last for a few days I will get this they will have a somewhat warm day tomorrow And then by weekend it's supposed to both be back in familiar terms Oh sure No there's snow in the forecast sooner rather than later All right we'll talk to you Thanks One other request Okay The Christmas song by Nat King Cole That's serious I don't know The rally James I hate the holidays club should we actually be playing something like that We'll have to think about it Maybe we'll have to put that one off Yeah play it in the summer or something All right well thanks Appreciate it Okay He's a fine Christmas song as far as Christmas songs go Yeah I'll be tempted to play G was it's Christmas by Carla Thomas In fact I'm sure I will But in the meantime you know there always having a discussions about things like gun control and all that not meaning to make this political just I didn't realize how many things were not controlled at all And would you like a flamethrower Apparently there is one guy lives in Florida who's settling disputes with his neighbors over their parking habits by using a flamethrower to scare them off Spraying them with fire Now the fact that he actually aimed at them did earn him some felony aggravated assault charges but for a while he's been menacing the neighborhood with a flame floor thrower And there are no federal laws against having one of your very own You can buy them online for about $900 And the guy defended himself saying this is a family whose guests are bad thing for the neighborhood I don't know if someone aiming at a flamethrower at the neighbors is probably bad for the neighborhood as well Yes do not take your frustration out with propelled fire It will not end well no matter how you slice it 888-876-5593 Now tomorrow night I'm very excited because while Bill Riley is going to join me and we're going to talk about the west side sound and you know for years I love my east LA oldies and chicano aldis and I knew everything that came out of there And I thought that was the epicenter for a genre of music which is like no other Well it turns out that there was also quite the scene in San Antonio the west side sound And in fact when I had heard that sunny Ozuna went to Burbank high I figured a minute in LA No I said San Antonio And of course sunny zonda with so many things that probably the only national hit talk to me But so many other things as well So we'll talk about the website sound and obscure oldies in general And whatever's on your mind then on Thursday night we have Marianne ghostbuster And I haven't checked to see phases of the moon at the moment but I did notice You know about the law of abundance where you basically write a blank check right before the new moon every month And the universe brings you all manner of abundance supposedly Anyway I'm always forgetting to write my checks But now I've noticed that Marianne has come out with a law of abundance checkbook So it won't be honored in any bank but you're going for the celestial bank of this as far as as far as that goes So you can check that out too But I have a lot of fun with this but the bottom line is that Marianne is utterly amazing in that she sees ghosts They're there's probably discarded entities or what have you But what goes EarthBound spirits And I know this firsthand There was a time when John and I drove to visitor in Cleveland and she had mentioned in conversation while we were talking to John you know you brought a ghost And I did And I'm probably told you this before but it was a deal where John who collects comics and stuff like that Apparently a go sledged on to him in a comic store and followed him home and loved the house because there was all sorts of electronics ghost like electronics And one inch video realtor reels and stuff like that and all that So the ghost state well apparently the ghost made the trip in the Z.

"Hours of the night. I mean it. Just don't know the lord. It was his idea. That's when people called in that bracket i was in it was. I would have all night bobble studies but i actually look back on if i read some one thirty four. I was actually a nightmare. Well i think that's a. There is a shelf life on night ministry and my and that shelf life for me. His past. i'd run running a college ministry for ten years. You're like those gray beginning to get below your in. i can't do. We need these people you know. I mean i. Five is liz. Those who get drunk. Get drunk at night. Most most people at night and i'm saying between midnight and five. Am there's a lot of corruption going on yorker. There's a small group of men and women who love jesus at all. I think the cutting edge of ministry. They are night ministers. They're the ones but it's the dirtiest of all ministries. I think about the you mentioned chad. Debbie i mean i'm like i don't know how i like. I do not know how they do it. They they're on call for women who in they're they're picking up women who are trapped in prostitution and they're doing some of the i mean it is a messy business but i look at When matlin my mom passed away. This is interesting store until this before on here. And i'm at the funeral and they've got i mean there's a line out the door people wanting to pay their respects and I knew most of them but one lady comes up to me and she's just weeping and she said menem. My son is saved. Because of your mom and i didn't know who she was like. Really she said oh yeah so then she starts telling me the story of mom encounter with phil and and her how influential mom wasn't and fills conversion of introducing bill smith to him and bring in bill smith in which by the way we're working on a movie about for about the first twenty eight years a a feeling case marriage which is going to be very powerful and part of this is going to be second be ready which up trying to get it from art. Pg thirteen but it's yeah it's it's going to be interesting but but she's telling that story as she said you're in so phil comes to christ or your mom partly from your mother's ministry and and and just hard for him he converts and when we say by the way he converse what we mean. Is phil introduced. Jesus tube. that's what we mean by that. He introduces jesus to chad johnson. Chad johnson rescued this woman out of prostitution and drug addiction and the night minister out on tuesday night minister and who was estranged from her side. But after going through the transformation program Her son finally after a year came to church weather and then he i think he heard maybe you speak or you one of you guys preach and then he responds to. The gospel and advocating became a christian. And she's like so. I just want you know. Of course that was of all the things that came forward it was it. Was that because the those were night ministers. Bill smith going into that bar meeting you. That's my dip at this.

"Now, I don't know if that's the Bill Schmidt decision or attacked, assigned ability issue with Montford. They'd want too much money to sign with us. I don't know. But in fact matters they're drafting hasn't been that great lately. And in this century this decade, I should say so. Don't know. My understanding is built. People know Bill Smith think very highly of it. I only know him superficially, you know, we say hello and all that, But, um, I don't know that he's been it will make all these drafting decisions and In all that. So maybe as a gentle manager he gets, you know we'll get to see him to a draft. Right. He's gonna be in charge is majorly dressed as as the scallion director and the general so he'll be fasting to see what they do in this draft. And if anything does turn out or if we have more, Riley points In the mix. So last thing, and then we'll move on to the Nolan and in the Syriza's tonight, but it didn't come across to me in that zoom with Bill Schmidt the other day that he's going to be able to really I mean, he'll have a say as much as he ever has had to say, But ultimately Trevor story and John Gray is going to be decided by Dick Monfort, right? I mean, that's already been decided. You think they lost 100 they didn't find I had to trade Northern all for financial reasons. Any other crap about saying Well, him. Bryce didn't get along. But you wanted out what? No, no. If there was no pandemic, known there, another would still be Iraqi. They lost $100 million. How do you get that back? You cut a big chunk of it off your table. And they did that. They're gonna continue to do that. In my opinion. I don't see any way to Trevor Story and John Grier here after the All Star break, note their contract. You're coming up there to get something for him. The question we all had with initially was great, right? It's gonna be making that call again because Trades aren't so good. Um, maybe Bill Schmidt makes a better deal. Let's hope he does make a better deal. But there's going to be a deal. I can't see any way that there's not a deal. They just can't afford Trevor Story and John Gray anymore. Not until they get right financially. And I said this, you know, I I would prefer that Dick Monfort sell the team and stuff. But maybe putting a scout and in charge of these decisions to an extent is actually I think what we want more than anything else, mark as Rockies fans It's just a direction. We just want to know what we're doing. If we go full on Astros and just tear it down and lose 100 games for the next three years, But we're acquiring all these stud prospects and our farm system looks better than I think people will be okay with that. Because it's a direction. We just Iraqis have just been this happen. Half out were drafted develop. But yet all we're doing is signing these really bad free agents like Ian Desmond, and I think Rocky's fans just wanted direction more than anything else. No, that's very fair. In fact, There are the title of My article is between Iraqis and a hard place because they are right in that middle ground. You're talking about stuff right there in the middle, and I think that Direction they should take is pretty clear to most people, and it's not the direction Bill Schmidt would take that building. Old school guys. The dinosaurs like me. He's old guy. The analytics thing, on the other hand, is wait. Tampa Bay with a smaller payroll in the Rockies, less revenues in the Rockies. Less everything that Iraqis wins. The American Legion takes Dodgers in the old church. That's what moms Iraqis need to follow. And Dick needs to do to invest in the athletic department of You know, I just laugh if he's a T shirt department analytics, right, You can't do things like that. You can't And that's the other gentleman. Here's a look at the rock is like one of the spending money on create $256 million on free agents to 2016 for a negative 3.7 war. No, that's just hideous. And you couldn't spend that money on analytics and have the best Alex Department of baseball and you'd be right where campaigns you could compete with the Dodgers. If you had that kind of thing. Campus as a model hopefully has a model. It's there to be followed. You don't have to outspend the Dodgers on yet. The Dodgers unfortunate also have that model and they're very good at it. They have 26 people in the police department and none of you do laundry. So you know it. They're simply uphill battle, But Rocky stands would just be fine in the Rockies were competitive with the Dodgers. Just be competitive, you know, and like you said Pick that direction that direction should be drafting developed. And you know, Alex, and that's how you develop but find the right guys to draft in the right guys to bring here and all that. And the right guys to the player development. A big part of not just to you draft I go back to the familiar just baffles me. What would Sam Hilliard be? If he was a rock if you the Dodger Six with five could run like an Olympic sprinter as a great arm. What would he be if he was a Dodger? They develop those guys. They have impact rookies coming out the woodwork in that organization. Iraqis are many Don't And that's that's the developmental issues much I don't know. I think that the scouting issue because I was drafted Sam Miller the heartbeat looking at those measurables But he's not developed the other player, and if people I talk to say it because there's a lousy player development In the minor league. Oh, just so so it's like it's like the Let the little boy with his fingers in the dike, right. It's just you get rid.

Baseless 2020 Conspiracies Complicate Ohio Effort To Buy Voting Machines

"President Trump's effort to overturn a Democratic election failed. But the departure from reality at the heart of that effort persists. Ah, favorite conspiracy theory of the president's allies involved voting machines changing votes. The evidence free claim was disproven in places like Georgia that recounted ballots on paper. But the false tale about Dominion voting machines persists affecting politics in a county in Ohio, Here's Nick Costello of Our member station Wcpo an idea stream Stark County is home to Canton, Ohio. It voted twice for Barack Obama and twice in landslides for Donald Trump. Last December, the bipartisan Stark County Board of Elections voted unanimously to replace its aging voting machines with new ones from Dominion voting systems. Since then, the county's three top elected officials, all of whom are Republican, say they've been getting an earful. The board of Commissioners has received hundreds of communications from concerned citizens. This is Commissioner Bill Smith, speaking at a public hearing about the purchase this response from the public as far exceeded the response any of us have ever received on any topic. Come before our board During this two hour hearing In early February, Smith pushed the board of Elections director to address voters fears that Dominion machines are not secure. They just want to make sure that it's valid counted so You're We're going with the one with the cloud right now. Okay over its head, a clouded not based in fact, but created by Trump and allies such as Rudy Giuliani. At least one conservative group has tried to keep stirring the opposition to start counties Dominion purchase. The county's top elections official is Geoff Matthews. He's also the chairman of the local Republican Party. On top of that he runs the board that tests in certifies voting machines statewide. At the meeting, Matthew's defended Dominion. And the integrity of the 2020 election, refusing to recognize that this election was safe, secure inaccurate can be viewed as nothing less than attacking the peaceful transfer of power. Some of the claims made about Dominion voting systems are beyond absurd and require one to suspend all critical thought. In the weeks since that meeting, the county's commissioners have yet to approve the more than $6 million contract, but a decision could come this month. Neither they nor Matthews responded to interview requests. Election officials here want to replace their machines before the fall. The particular Dominion voting machine that the county board wants to buy is a touch screen with a paper audit trail. It was used in 11 Ohio counties last year, according to the Ohio secretary of state's office. Trump won all of those counties. Postelection audits found the results in nine of those counties to be 100% accurate. The minuscule discrepancies in the other two counties were not attributed to the machines. Our hope is that we continue to have a really honest and open conversation about fax. Versus fiction case. Stimpson is a spokeswoman for Dominion voting Systems. She says the company has been available to answer local officials. Questions, sending a sales rep to meetings were showing up to do the hard work of cutting through disinformation and at the most granular levels in Stark County were also Very much supported by the Ohio secretary of State's office. The other way Dominion is trying to cut through the disinformation is in the courts. The company has filed massive defamation lawsuits against Giuliani and other Trump allies about their false

"Inauguration Day in a matter of hours, president like five will become President Biden by spreading elect Harris will become Vice President Harris and they will occupy New positions in our lives, and we'll be covering them closely as well. Peter Baker of the New York Times Big Change ahead for you today. Peter. Are you at Andrews or you out on the mall awaiting the inauguration? Uh, I wish I were either place. Unfortunately, the rules of journals and these days are sometimes you just last to your computer, and that's where I am today. Mike. My colleague Maggie Haberman, is that Andrew's, though she just sent us a picture, there was a large spaces. Blocked off for crowds and unfortunately there are cold and damp morning so we'll see how many end up turning up hard day for the helicopters fly. But The president shows up late, and I think he's making the most of it last hours in office, Peter I've been in town for a lot of inauguration and I know how cold it is today, but it is not as cold as it was for the Reagan second inauguration. Now I have my first That was the first one I covered now. I cover it since I was a young junior intern and the story that I wrote that day was which liquor stores and libraries are gonna be closed for the holiday. You're right. It was a hugely cold day. They cancel the public stuff on it was. You know, we haven't had in quite like that. Since thinking this. No. I was working a DOJ then for Bill Smith and maybe admits had got there by then. And you get the day off. If you're a fed, and you know there's a parade all that stuff. No way was I go into that parade? It was below zero. And the president was sworn inside the rotunda because it was so cold. So are we about 35 40 degrees today? I'm on the West Coast. I don't know. Oh, yeah. Nice for you. That's good. Yeah, right now, NBC. It's about 41 degrees. It's going to get up so high of 43. So you know, we're not likely gonna be going too much harder, Not like California. But it's supposed to be funny later. So hopefully that will least Run off some of the dampness in the what seemed to be kind of a light snow overnight. So Peter and the little Inside baseball here, Richard Nixon had Ray Price and Bill Safire. John Kennedy had Ted Sorensen. Everybody's got a speech writer who is helping the president with his address, is it Jon Meacham? I don't need you there. Yeah, Remember? He, of course, is the historian who helped him with his speech when he invited Nixon declared victory was was was was anointed by the And at any gave that speech from Wilmington. I think he's been helping with us as well as other people on the staff, and I'm learning Mork. I learned more about that process because I think it's gonna be telling about the next four years. Buying is not somebody who always sticks to the script. Right in that sense, not entirely different from President Trump. But I think he will today because I think he understands the importance of this speech and getting exactly right. There is usually a signature phrase with Nick's That was the lift of a driving dream with Kennedy. New Frontier With FDR New Deal. Any idea what the signature phrases Peter Baker Now It's been harder for presidents in the last number of years. A couple of something that really stuck. You know, President Obama try the new foundation that didn't really work. President Clinton, Try the new covenant that didn't really stick present. Bush tried the ownership society that kind of Kind of went away. So it's been hard, I think, since the Kennedy Johnson era in particular, called with a phrase that really kind of encapsulated thing that's stuck in the public mind. W was compassionate conservatism. H W was 1000 points of light. They were not in the inaugural address they attached themselves. Presidents by an almost geological force When that happens, let's talk about confirmations. Peter. I've played a lot of Anthony Blinken now at the blankets, a friend of a lot of my friends, and they tell me he's very, very talented and very, very moderate. And certainly yesterday, he surprised by endorsing the genocide declaration of Secretary Pompeo, assuring Americans that Jerusalem will remain the capital of Israel. Other things like that. Were you surprised by the blinking testimony yesterday, which was Centrist. No, I think you looked. I think Tony Blinken is, you know part of the Washington right? He parties 1000. He's not a radical in that sense, Isa very in tune with Biden. I think in a way that Biden Has found his way to the middle of wherever the Democratic orthodoxy has been over the years. That's what Tony Blinken is going to be a swell it This point some liberals progressives, but I think that he'll look T O Keep the best of Of what he inherits while you know, making the changes they think they need to make, you know, Peter feel free to just say that's completely wrong. But as I watched the new administration stand up It's been described by some people is an Obama third term. I actually think it's a Clinton third term. I think there's a lot more Clinton than Obama in these And these appointments and in their direction like yelling at Treasury is so much like Clinton. She is so centrist Blinken at state. What do you think about that theory? Well, this is in question. I mean, there's no question everybody, not everybody, but so many of people who are being picked our people who were there four years ago or not that much longer before that, it's it is a It is a very familiar cast to Washington Democrats. They have not brought in a whole lot of outsiders. Obviously you have beat Blue Jays and grand for president. And you have Kamila Harris is nude. T this, you know, grouping. But you're right. I think it's a lot of Clinton veterans and everything wanted Obama veterans. Most importantly, I think of the Biden veterans. He had a team around people he has known for not just years, but many cases decades..

We don't have a trump Republican in California. There's only one trump. And that's what bothers me because there's a difference between a trump Republican and Republicans. You know what I mean? Yes, I did. Hey, what happened on the plane? No. Oh, yeah. I was on the plane coming back from Atlanta and in a nutshell, So they're not on the plane and the plane had to go back to Atlanta. If you go toe my Twitter account at the legal trail, you'll see it. You got some little news press coverage, But yeah, there was a note on the plane. That's a very frightening experience to be 38,000 ft in the air. And you don't know why you're turning back. There was a nut on the plane, a nut. It helps dependent health care worker how I'm going to get the vaccine questions, accident question and for those who couldn't hear she's an independent health care worker. Independent. Okay, that means sort of like a independent contractor. She's not an employee, so she's she's trying to find out. Win and through what source? Will she get the vaccine? She is a frontline worker. And she asked a very good question. If someone's out there listening. It's a question we will ask. Um, the governor's office, if if if he takes our call, But that's a very, very important question. There's a lot of independent Healthcare workers out there providing valuable services. And they're not actually in a employee employer relationship. They should not fall through the crack. And so that's a very, very, very good question. We're gonna go all your phone calls. So we're just you know, Faye Patient 1 802 2 to 5 to two to let me go to Rina in Santa Clarita. Hello there. Hi. How you doing? How you doing? I gotta tell you the reason. It's not working. This co everything is because they're telling us what to do. And people are so dumb. Do not know their own body and are listening. When they listen. They're gonna end up getting sick..

"Dollars are to know who the bull photographer at the time bill Smith and to do it copyright two to that picture you're a smart man doctor I like that I like it what did you think of the last dance you live did tell me it tell me your thoughts would do that well it several reactions first I thought it certainly did a good job of capturing the joy and excitement that Michael brought to Chicago and since black lives matter is at the forefront of our consciousness let me state the obvious it was Michael Jordan who brought such joy to Chicago into the rest of the world in such prestige to Chicago but certainly I think it did a good job of capturing the magic but one thing that where I thought it fell short was not giving Jerry Krause enough credit Jerry Krause was a genius don't forget juries the one who brought Phil Jackson on to the team he discovered Scotty Pippen he made the very turned out to be brilliant choice but exponentially explosive choice of bringing Dennis Rodman on board so on the one hand he was a genius on the other hand he was a walking public relations disaster he wasn't good with the press so unfortunately he passed away a few years ago but even if he had still been present I'm not sure he would have defended himself very well but can I tell you one story that can be gives you an idea of his his perfectionism I would love it go ahead one yeah one evening during the playoffs he was leaving the United center in his bags were packed circuit jury where are you going he said I'm going to Europe to scout a player and I said is if you didn't know it security it's the middle of the playoffs why don't you just watch they'll move him in the game and he said he's going to Europe to watch this player to serve his body language when he was on the bench and not plain so to me that was a fascinating example of his that he was as much a perfectionist is a scout is Michael Jordan was is player isn't that crazy you know Jerry Krause he he does not get enough credit he was a great general manager I mean think about it Rodman for will Perdue and we won three four championships that trade right there is crazy but he you're right he got in his own way and they needed a villain for the last dance and he was the villain was Nick well he was a villain and that reminds me I I from a writer's perspective the last dance felt a bit Shakespearean super hero Michael Jordan you had evil empire Jerry Krause you had crazy clown Dennis wise uncle Phil loyal sidekicks got it so it does Shakespeare would have loved it I think so through doctor Michael Lewis on the phone with us he was the bulls doctor back in where you just the bulls doctor of ninety seven and ninety eight or no actually I was a continued for several more years okay but clearly those were the most exciting times before I ask you about Michael Jordan you're donating all the profits to charity what is their charity and tell us all about it well thank you for mentioning that the I'm actually overwhelmed at some of the reaction to the book security is the Himalayan cataract project and the reason that I picked that charity is set my wife and I are good friends Jeff tape in who is a a professor of ophthalmology at Stanford he's the director of this organization and we saw him perform several hundred cataract surgeries in Ghana he goes to underserved areas and people who've been blind for years one day after the surgery can see perfect perfect perfectly it's just miraculous and for twenty five dollars and I I just can't think of a better because and a friend of mine told me that he was so inspired by the book that he donated ten thousand dollars to the Himalayan cataract project for the books already accomplish something important wow is that just great I was gonna ask you because I knew it was cheap but it's twenty five dollars and I so fifty dollars where someone who couldn't see now can say I mean exactly there's so many of these doctors that are going overseas are headed to Africa and doing god's work in donating their time and paying their own way I mean I I love organizations like this I really do doc well the important thing about this organization is this number is gonna be hard to believe but they've done over nine hundred thousand cataract surgeries because Japanese team don't just come in and swoop into a country and operate on the king's cousin they teach the local doctors had to perform the procedure the so it's it's as good as it gets is a charity so they're going in and they're changing the culture and and and and actually educating these people welcome and not only that when you operate on but one person you're bringing typically at least two people back into the work force because families needed to have one person keep an eye on the you know the blind member of the family so once that person can see you you know you've generated two more people who can who can work in right tackle while we're talking to doctor Michael Lewis the former bulls doctor the name of this book is called the ball's in your court hi doctor shares life lessons you would think that the first thing that you would talk about is still Jackson because still always a lesson I mean that's what came out of the bulls camp back in the day and when you hear about Phil Jackson he always has a lesson or there's something to be learned what did you learn from Phil Jackson well I learned several things from the jerking Phil Jackson one is the credibility that he had and how important that was killed himself as you probably remember that championship rings is his time with the New York Knicks yup yup it dealt with adversity he'd had back fusion surgery and he also paid his dues he coached for many years so one well one part of the equation is his credibility another facet was who's the starting shooting ability to know exactly what buttons to push for each person music's exquisitely sensitive for example I remember in one medical meeting he said that a particular player was lagging in energy and seemed a little depressed so he was going to give him more playing time to give them a boost but there is so many behind the scenes examples of how sensitive he was in knowing exactly you know what buttons to push also one of the things you realize from being around the team is how extraordinarily difficult it is with so many distractions to keep to keep everybody focus right and that he was also brilliant about that people don't realize how grueling the season is and how everybody winds up playing hurt and to.

Two of them hit number one and one just missing the top spot.
