"Can maybe bring them back into existence. And we were having this. We're having so much fun with that last week. And then it became like a serious news story. Type of show for it. Was she? Listen to our podcast every week. We're having fun. We're like, hey, there's a conspiracy theory. They took her off bubba. Well, she came back. I still think it's hilarious that NBC who has a 17 week schedule that people need buys and rest. That's great. It's one third of the year. Can't work 17 straight weeks. What the hell is going on? So that's what it ended up in. It was just that, or that's what they're saying. But then, we'll see. We'll see if she's back next year. You did it, man. I don't think they would even thought it to bring her back if you didn't bring it up last week. And I think they should re sign her for 5 years. The analytics say we sign her. All right, we got, I don't know how we're gonna do guest alliance. But well, they have lines on all these games. I'll tell you that. Okay. All right. I think you're gonna win, because I was awful again. We're gonna talk about the games that are coming up and we'll do guest alliance right after this. Charles Barkley Calls out Rich Paul and Klutch Sports for Manipulating the NBA

"Clutches able to come up with a solution to this that gets darryl what he needs. That gets them to a place that he'd like to be in an doesn't adversely impact the sixers fortunes in the east. And you know helps other players along the way. I keep hearing like weird names. Cleveland might have an angle minnesota's by favorite getaway any of their assets the minnesota in sacramento ones. Have that kind of logic of of those Folks in those offices have history with daryl. So you know that there they can have conversations and there's absolutely no reason whatsoever for the sixers do a goddamn thing before training camp before the season starts is the best thing about this before the trade deadline. I mean i think that they're well positioned to just chill for a bit. Here's what barkley said on the mike mass analysis show. He's talked about clutch. Was you know how that group works. They try to trade their players to where they want to anthony davis. They had better deals from boston. Maybe even new york. They're like no he's gonna play with. Lebron is not gonna play. They just bullied. The league team. Got to stand up and say i paid your guy. He can't bully me a trade him and meet and have me take some trash back. I'm hoping somebody in the sixers organization got some stones barkley said we have not seen a team degan before and the quick thing you know. There's a persecution complex of them look for so amid this point the most powerful agent is always the least popular agent. David falk in the nineties was basically presented as the anti christ and blame for every bad thing that happened the league in the nineties. Scott boras same thing in baseball. Everybody had scott boras when you're the top agent near attached to the top guy and you're swinging elbows and get clydes what you want and do all that stuff. You're gonna take shit. I don't like some of the stuff they do at the same time. This is a referendum on them right. What how much power do they actually have. Because in this case philly has no trade.

Can Ben Simmons Be Saved From Philly?

"You may remember our guest here from page to espn's page to. bill simmons. Now has his own podcast. Yeah and each walk into this now but soviet i actually i wanted to talk about ben simmons. 'cause i'm doing football the next couple of pods on my pod and i just have like a twenty minute. Ben simmons conversation me that might you know expire a. I don't know what the time sensitivity is on it. Who knows something happened over the weekend. But i'm just so fascinated by this story. And i don't even remember if it has a payroll and recent mba history again. That's where you always. I think kind of lap the rest of the historical perspective of like. Hey this is happening. It's newsy we've got all these tidbits rumors that we're going to get to and in who's in charge of the steel but historically what we're talking about with somebody this young this many years left on the deal and basically saying hey you guys think i suck anyway. So what's the point. And then the threatening holdout thing which i had heard about about a month ago. Yeah it was met with kind of indifference like all right. Go ahead hold out man But we don't know so why don't you take it in any direction. You think the headline part of this story is right now. The headline part of the story. Is i think both sides have a right to just want to move on from this right and i think everybody else unfortunately knows that for the two sides but you have this starts when they try to trade him for harden you know and you could make simmons the bad guy you can make clutch the bad guy. There's all kinds of takes. You can do with this but it starts when they try to trade him for harden and when you try to trade somebody you go down the road you actually think you got him which i think both of us had until that day that harden was going affiliate was the rap and simmons knows all this so it starts there. Then you have this kind of embiid's team it's embiid city. He's always resident in that city. More than simmons says she had that piece to you whether those guys get along or not. I don't even think that really matters for

"We're about to give picks they did something different. This time they had all the guys walk out with their families. I really liked it. All right so It looks like the pistons take cunningham. Kfc we okay with that great. That's the right decision. It's kinda. I wouldn't call it a no brainer but 'cause that's speaks to evan moberly and jalen green how talented they are But it's as close to a no brainer as it gets when you're talking about a guy who's six foot seven six four eight can play. Who can shoot off the dribble who can defend multiple positions. Who's a leader. Who works hard. Like for the pistons. Here with their current roster. You know as troy weaver said everybody's a fit Became cunningham is especially at fit next to their backcourt with killian hayes city bay in the front court and i say a stewart. I love their young core in the pistons finally have hoped

"So tim in the past week. The dallas mavericks have lost their longtime. Gm and their head coach been quashing. Rumours about their biggest star potentially leaving and their owner mark. "Man. How much can change over the course of the weekend. I'll watch game three. And i thought that's gave it away. They're fine. that's about as dumb of game as they're gonna lose. They easily could have won nine different times. They played terribly. They still almost one. And i'm not sure what walkie has for answers. Go into game for the nets are up thirty. Four twenty five have all the momentum schimidt face commits a foul and middleton four point play and it opens the floodgates bucks go at a nineteen to to run. Kyri sprains his ankle during the run and the entire series shifts. And now kyrie is out. We have no idea when hardens coming back and you saw what the nets looked like as a one man team russillo. It's sunday the bucks. Flip this series. Yeah i mean they did because now we don't know about the kyri part but i'll tell you like just doesn't happen very often because i felt like milwaukee you look at him. You're like all right. I like him look all the size. Look at all this stuff. Those first two games are so bad in game three. Even though they want a bill. I felt worse about him. I go this say this has like. There's a version of this breakdown. Which i still will probably do. And perhaps regret because the bucks of winning the series of his just durant but there are fundamental problems that this team has Would jaanus being the initiator and so many things in middleton was for two games drew. Holiday can do anything. We're like three games. He was a little better. They shot it better and felt like once kyri went down it was forty four forty five forty two left in the second quarter at the nets just emotionally were like in shock. They were very flat for a long period of time. And then i think milwaukee actually kind of matched their lack of emotion but it was just. We might do to ours. Jackie macmullan is joining us. The hall of famer Cholera was not traded jenny. What happened what happened well. It's funny i was talking to someone in the raptors organization a few days ago. And they're sort of this sense if you look back on that great championship season. The next year Koi leonard walks for nothing. Danny green goes for nothing right them gusau and serge ibaka for nothing and i think it. Just maybe it's just like okay. We're all right with kyle. Stay in here. He's okay more more importantly like cows like me out of here man. This is a sinking ship. I think the results would have been different. Perhaps and i think he was like. I'm okay with being here. You know his bird rights don't kick in till the you can't extend him till the summer so if you trade for you're interested in his bird rights much harder now to sign kyle hours of free agent because you no longer has his bird rights so for people that most people on. I don't need to explain this on your podcast right. Everyone knows what that means yes. I know it's helpful though. Yeah okay so what it means. Is that If you had if you trade him at the deadline and you wanted to extend him you had his bird rights. You could go over the cap you have to worry about it now. If you sign him you have been able to fit him. And it's it's more difficult for teens. So i think in the end they probably just like. How much of this can we ask our fans to understand. He's so good with the younger guys. And you know let's face it siachen nick nurse. They got a little thing going on right. Now there's a little back and forth. "Talk about philly because we haven't talked about philly in the pod yet philly. We talk a little bit earlier. We're talk about yeah. You should get george hill. Basically for free over paying a premium price for cholera. that makes sense to me Russillo as george hill crunch time you see in the game last five minutes for them or do you think he's a bench guy It depends on the defensive match up. Because you've got to figure like all right. If seth is closing to give you their spacing i think their best to man group and this can be a little misleading embiid and steph curry this year. So you know simmons is gonna finish so you need spacing probably more than harris thy bible. Nine harris has been on an absolute tear to here. so he's he's stepped up big time and their defense is still been incredible for the month of march even with be missing games Yeah but i. I would think they made. Look at as a seth or george hill thing Around simmons around harrison and figure out the other wing so it may not just always be seth and the other three guys with george hill. But i think this at least gives you a little bit more size there. And i don't know how much you put in any of the george you saw from oklahoma city this year. Because you know i mean. Those didn't even need those guys at times because the thunder keep winning some of these games. I can't believe they're winning with the group. They put out there.

NBA Chatter With Jackie MacMullan

"The nba comes back in full steam tonight. We're going to talk about a one year anniversary of the day. We call it the go bear game when everything changed. It was leading up to the week before. Boston song conferences. Five six days beforehand. There's utah's in boston. The utah guys get infected. Actually feels like it could have been a lot worse from that standpoint but in some ways it feels like it's been a year in other ways it feels like it's been five years but one thing that is for sure as the nba is a hell of a lot different a year later. What what's the biggest thing that's jumped out to you in the past year other than the no fans you know. I think the dirty little secret bill is just a mental health of we talk a little bit about the mental health of the players. I think it's that plus the mental health of the coaches. I would add that. Gm's ev involved like it it it just. There wasn't enough time. there wasn't an time off and and they knew that and that's why they wanted to start january but broadcast partners. Put the foot down and it. Just i see a steel seal the ripple effects of it when you talk to guys which is not easy to do these days because you're not in an arena. You're not sitting down and shooting the breeze with guys before the game like we normally do but when you get people on the phone or in a private moment you know what one had said to me about three days ago. This is so stupid. You gotta do it. But they're like it's just he one of the one another different. Gm said to me you know. I went in the other day to work is in their team has scuffling a little bit and he said i didn't like i wasn't talking about like hey you know you need to keep your elbow win. He said i just went to all and said like. Are you guys ok not about. I'm going to talk about basketball. Like are you okay. Yeah 'cause 'cause it's been a long haul now and and i think it's obviously a reflection of society as a whole. It's been a long haul for all walks of life in every profession and not to mention the people that aren't working. You know we could. We could spend a whole day on that. But that to me is the overwhelming thing that i notice and they're still great basketball being played. I give the guys that are cutting through this amazing amount of credit especially those final four teams which i think when you look back. Now they all struggled. Yeah lakers not until anthony davis went down with the celtics. Certainly the denver nuggets came out of the. You know the gate. Six and seven the miami heat you know. They were a plan team or out of the playoffs in the early. Start and i think that's a coincidence.

Atlanta Hawks Fire Coach Lloyd Pierce

"We're gonna start with the atlanta hawks. Who fired their coach. Lloyd pierce today. You could see this coming for a while. And i guess i'm gonna start here. We can get into whether he was doing a good job or not. It seems like he wasn't their fan. Base was happy they. I think they blew eleven. Fourth quarter leads just as year they They're fourteen and twenty for the season. They're close enough to like the four five seed where you can make a case you do this now. Somebody writes the ship. You could still be a top five. Playoff tim my question. Is this when you build your team around this. Entire philosophy new spent three years doing that in that philosophy isn't necessarily working. Isn't that the fatah the gm in the owner over the coach. The coach has to be the fall guy. First and then i think the gm travis slink end up being the second fall guy in the offseason but why does the fog. I always have to be the coach. I with this roster. That clearly doesn't work. I mean it's always the coach because the gm is boss. So you're the gm that's probably the first thing like whenever coaches fired it's almost always gm's ultimately right. Yeah who by the way who hired this coach so a going backwards and this is why i always get criticized from From hawks fans. I'm too hard entree on i'm not. I'm just realistic on training. I'm not sure he's a winning player. He might be. He might turn into winning player right now. I'm not sure where it is. I know he's of the worst offenders in the league but since they got him and i think it all starts to that luca trade and the fact that luca became good right away and they went all in on trae young and that they got basically trae young camera tish They're trying to build this infrastructure to make trae young succeed. That is the goal of this franchise. From the moment they made that trade and they kind of anoint him as disguise can be are steph curry so every decision they make after that is based around this premise. That trae young could be steph curry and that leads to three straight years of decisions that when you look at them early. I don't think they worked. So i don't know who the coach could have been. That would have made all the moves they made. If you're just starting with the fundamental premise. Trae young as the next curry. 'cause he's not. Yeah i think you got to look at it like year one and year to always going to be busts with trae like we're gonna rebuild last year. They're playing and honor like thirty minutes like nineteen and twenty one. So really it's like. This is the first year i really counts for them. This is what the air they spent their money. They had the quote unquote team. They want around trae sh- really to me. It was like two years. We're just gonna burn and year. Three years could come together. And that's why pierce was fired so quickly is because the pressure is on schlink now. Big time. I got a two year window to do every wanted with really no expectations of rigging results.

What's going on with the New Orleans Pelicans?

"This year's deputy f team the new orleans pelicans. I don't know what baker this team you can catch them on any given night and it's a completely different experience than the last night. I don't know if the players make sense together. Actually i'm pretty sure they don't. I don't really know what the overall philosophy is. I don't know if they're trying to be a playoff team if they're trying to be rebuilding. I'm just constantly confused and there are some optimism because they want a couple of games around people here they go here. Zion and then they get killed last night by the bulls and have one hundred thousand breakdowns. And i guess my first question to you is the pelicans what the fuck you. How many exclamation points can we tack onto that. Wt fd think. But i was hoping you could answer this question. Because i think you're spot on in that it's so much depends your view of this team on when you catch them even just like what stage in the season. You caught them because for a minute. It looked like they were going to live up to their personnel and be a tough minded offensive team. Scrounging out offensive rebounds to get points and just kinda struggling on that in because they're spacing issues the script has completely flipped. And now this is all of a sudden very competent offense. I think park has really driven by brandon. Ingram is i ion williamson. They're making that part of it work but the defense. Jesus christ i mean it is. There is inconsistent defensively as really any team out there. Yeah i would say other than brooklyn. It's the team that's most likely to give up one hundred forty on any given night to any team. That knows what they're doing. I so if you actually look at their stats and you haven't been watching that much and you look at the stats and you look at williamson in ingram and all right. Those guys are having good years pretty efficient. And then you look at lonzo and you look at bledsoe. Lonzo shoot thirty seven percent from three so she and forty percent so going into the season like well. Their guards can't shoot. They're not going to be able to have enough space. Well their guards are actually shooting. Okay but then. When i watch everybody together. I don't have a five-man line-up that i liked like yesterday. They're playing Kyra lewis with He he got a little more run and he's really interesting. Rookies really fast. He's little darren foxy and gave them an energy that i was like. Well maybe this. Maybe i would like this version of the pelicans more. If fast you know now unleash sign a little bed. Go up and down a little bit more. But i still don't know who the other two teammates would be with cairo. Lewis design and branding. And i guess the fundamental question for me is do zion and brandon. Ingram makes sense together on a team. That's actually trying to win the title. I think they make sense on offense but the question was i on really broadly. As who are you going to put the five that's gonna make up for all. He doesn't do defensively right now. That's always been my issue with the idea of playing small and we are putting him at the five his rotations is. Aren't there really the pelicans as a team. If i were an opposing coach. I would say this is a team. We can beat him rotation every they are. Pass away from defensive breakdown every time out on the floor and keep moving the ball. You keep doing what you're supposed to do they will they will mess up in a whether it's undersized guy in the corner doesn't quite rotate over all the way. Jj radic or josh. Hart they try hard. They do what they can. But they're not equipped to be helped rotation defenders. If a guy like zion isn't going to be one so i mean i'm i'm kinda bullish on the anger rooms ion depot in general but i am really struggling to see how you put together those lineups. I can see how they kind of got into this conundrum where they clearly wanted to have some veterans early. Some veterans fell into their lap in terms of what was available and trying to get some pics and make their other moves but long term. It's a weird team to build with. And then you get lonzo into this conversation to and what they want to do with him. It's it's kind of messy.

"Your comeback influence or the year is logan pa. Yeah so logan. Paul as we all know got into a scandal a couple years back. He posted a youtube video in this forest. In japan that was known for It's called like suicide forest or something like that. Probably not a good idea to be filming or going into a suicide forest in general but he filmed a man who Had committed and kind of made a joke about it and it was really horrible and people totally on him rightfully so. But it's kind of the first truly cancelled influence. Yeah i think he. I think he was was the kick. Start to the cancel culture but recently i haven't watches videos as much. I know ben has been watching a lot. But i've been following him lightly and he seems like he's really changed his entire mentality and a super apologetic about what he did and learn from it and he's trying to shift its content towards sings that he finds more interesting and has totally educated himself. So happy for you paul. Glad you learned and that you took cancel culture and you learn from your mistakes. So i think i think he's on a good route right now.

Eagles drop struggling Carson Wentz for Hurts in middle of $128m contract

"The jalen hurts thing. Yeah we let's just every sports shows gonna do it so we should probably do it. The the wentz conversation. Everybody's everybody's saying. What do they do should they. It seems like they literally can't do anything i don't think they can. Everyone's like turn them to the colts. It's frank rights problem. He'll do good with. I'm like i don't i don't know one's eaten his contract right. I know there's some creative ways to get around it. But that's just too much damn. It's easier for the team to take him. So i did some research on this. Basically if he gets traded by a certain day you he's only owed is twenty twenty one and twenty twenty two salaries and it's basically a two year forty seven million dollar deal secure the colts and franks. I love this guy. Go look at his stats last couple of years like i. I can fix this guy whenever quarterback anyway. Maybe do it. The problem is no matter when they do it. The eagles just get crushed. You know they they could save right. Twenty five point. Four million in salaries in twenty twenty one and then fifty million in twenty twenty two for guaranteed. But they're just in the whole for thirty million minimum if they trade them no matter how they've besides it with the weirdest thing is. They gave him that extension before his rookie. Dale even played out which. I never understand when teams do that. Football right yeah again. He's i mean he hasn't survived last three three out of four december. Yeah he had major need knee injury. You also have the franchise tag which you can always use. If you don't agree to affirm. I the whole concept of locking him down way before you need to when you're not even positive what he is. It is weird so anyway. I don't see how they trade them if anything you would you try to build. Jalen hurts his value up to try to trade him right. Yes exactly. I think that's the way to do it but So then how long does he have to play to build his value though like through the rest of the year. At least right well there. Somehow they're not at of the an ac-. I know they're screwed. I they might be screwed worse than the cowboys which is exciting.

Spot right into but richardson is one of those types of guys. That were sort of talking about here right. I mean like. I think you would want knee smith to grow into that type of role and hopefully get better on defense. Maybe not a guy who was handling a lot for you but can here and there That that would be the long term goal for him. But i'm not so sure that the ball handling ability is there but if it is it's never going to be at a high level he's always going to be a shooter for you and if he can shoot a heck of a lot better than richardson. While being good on defense. That'd be a really nice player but there's a lot of questions though.

NFL Playoff Futures: Who will make the 2020 post-season?

"Wanted to talk about playoff odds and not not. Just who's gonna make the playoffs but also the nfc the nfc's a really weird place. The saints are plus three fifty to win this to in the nfc. None of us like the saints even are as good as they looked last week against tampa. There's still this unease with because breezes arm strength. It just makes me nervous. I'm starting to talk myself into the saints. Okay yeah okay so a couple of things number one. Smart people in july and august said wait until brady gets half a season under his belt and they're going to get better you know. No one cares. More about the details. And tom brady doesn't have a training. Camp does not as doesn't put pads on till till august fifteenth. He's gonna get better and better and better and so week one when when the bucks and the saints played. I threw that out. I said this this doesn't matter bracing to get better and better better. This was the closing the gap game for me. And then i didn't see that and obviously they were there whipped everywhere you know. Ali maher pet being out was a big thing with with with with people who started the game. But i think that this was bigger than than alley marquette quite frankly okay The the saints were able to get a four man rush the entire game. Are they able to pressure brady on half of his dropbacks when they had a four man rush. That's really good Since marcus davenport's come back in week five had the most pressures in football pressuring and football There's just something there. The problem at the beginning of the year was that lattimore and marcus williams were bad and those are two pretty good players and i think that you know a good pass rush. Ken console that those guys can get better and so with with brees. Listen there are. There are problems with the fact. You can't throw down the field. The offensive line is not as good as it has been in years hospice and matter with brees because he gets rid of the ball and a second. It's like peyton manning he doesn't need you know the the the best offensive line in the world and then lattimore who we were kind of dunking on because at one point he was giving almost a perfect passer rating. He owns mike evans. He own them. He is not given up a reception. Mike evans the last three games. They've played and so when if those guys play in the playoffs again. There's that match up. So i i don't. I'm feeling better about the saints. Now that i was two three weeks ago. Good coaching staff. I gary coaching staff. Yeah so the fear in this isn't just the saints but the fear is all right. What happens at their downtown in a playoff game. It's basically the lamar jackson corollary. How am i feeling down. Thirteen to three in the second quarter and they've just done a three and out. What were my emotions in that moment. That's my the saints because a breeze. I think that because they don't you don't think they're capable of a big play. Is that your fear if teams though like all right. They've got to air this out. They've got to quicken the pace and also it's amazing to me a cameras probably been the. Mvp think it's either him cook mahomes berry some order Okay i'm amazed at teams aren't just like all right. We're taking him out like bell. Check in his prime your. He got added as kids to the coaching staff and decided to throw a fight street. Drafts fail check All he would do me like chimeras not beating me. You can have everyone else on the saints. I'm not getting beat by that guy. I'm falling everywhere he goes. We're hitting him constantly. He's not beating me. Why don't teams do that with them. I don't get it okay. So first of all they have a of weapons. Thanks so she when michael. Thomas is healthy There's a lot they can do their you know. I think peter king early breakdown. His column this week about there was a play where the bucks dropped eight men into coverage and it was a weird play. They had their fullbacks put out wide and brees hit a random tight end. Adam traveling for a touchdown even throwing into eight men like that. There's just something their breezes still really really good so. I think it's a bit simplistic to say. Just take away kamara because they can do other stuff And they can. They can change their game plan so

Does Trump Want to Fight to Win 2020 Election?

"Trump the president yeah. There, there's a theory going around that. It's becoming unwinnable for him. And he's GonNa know it and he's going to. Basically do the judge smells like my arm I? Think it's broken. GET HIS ASS out. Do something and then he could do thing afterwards like I would have won, but you know I. had that health thing to that. Do you believe in theory? Well. It's funny like before. That theory became a thing I. had that theory because I was like? If he starts looking at the polls and it's like he's GonNa go down and he's going to go down hard. He may come up with some fake health thing and say he's got heart problem or Some bullshit thing and say I can't do it. I would love to serve you my beloved barricade. I can't do it because he can see the writing on the wall and his whole thing like his whole shtick is a winner winning win win win, and I'm like he's gotta be looking at his post-presidency lives such as it is, and his business such as it is, and if he loses like you know, he loses thirty seven states or something. It's like a you know landslide in. He gets killed. How does he come back from that and say like I'm? I'm a winner. I'm a winner. Come to my come to my business. Come to my hotel. Come to my restaurant. You know that's going to be a big ego blast for him now we're talking about this on my birthday. Zoom and house was like well, but he's just going to say it's rigged, so if he loses and goes down. Hard is going to be like well. It was the mail in ballots, and it was all rigged, and it was the fake news, and whatever but part of me Kinda thought he would do this thing where it's like. Again you know the judge snails arm I think it's broken. I can't run, and then he could always say tweet out. Oh, I could have one. If only my health. Let me I would have beat. Joe Biden Sleep. Joe Biden Yada Yada. So I I. Don't know I mean I i. don't know what his course of action is here now I I've seen some speculation now where people think he doesn't WanNa win like based on his behavior like when he tweets out the other day about the bubble wallace thing. Wallace News thing and he you know, which was a non-story at that point in our, you know millisecond of a news cycle now that had passed by, and he felt the need to tweet that for some reason the other day. Ad Like look like he's you know to bring that up and confederate flags and everything and you're like why. Why would he do this? Why would you do this or election? Campaign like this is going to be? Be Your focus with limited amount of time between now and November third, so people are like. Maybe he doesn't. WanNa win. Maybe he's like president. Thing is hard. This is not for me. It was easy when the economy was good, and we were at peace. SORTA speak, and I could just go to rallies and everybody loved me, but now that it's hard like I I don't WanNa. Do this anymore I wanted to start a TV company and Bitch about CNN I. I don't know what his motivation does at this point anymore. If two semi ever did.

1997 NBA Finals RewatchaBulls With Ryen Russillo

"Rewatch ables. We're doing the entire ninety seven. Nba Finals concentrate in the last two games. But this is such a fascinating document in so many different ways. This is. Jordan has become unassailable. Great at this point he's a superhero. Were all assuming he's going to be He's GonNa come through every step of the way. No matter what obstacle Utah Team. That had been around for a long time. We didn't really have a feel for them. Not Enjoyable to watch. We're about to cover bulls go sixty nine and thirteen. This is the culmination of just a brutal twenty months that we talked about on your podcast. And we did the wizards pod were they had hit this. This point of their basically the Beatles at this point this travelling circus. They're covered differently than any sports team ever. All that stuff jazz go sixty four. Eighteen eleven three in the playoffs. They beat the Lakers. The clippers and famously the rockets stockton hits the three The Lakers series. That was the Kobe ball series kind of lost in the shuffle where Shack first-year Eddie Jones Nick Van Exel. Pretty even series. I I remember in the moment thinking. Oh the Lakers beat Utah. You always loses. Utah's done and wasn't the case. It was MVP. Carl Malone still being an MVP so any we get to the finals and the subplot emerges the real MVP versus the guy who won the MVP but then this whole other thing about no Karl Malone was actually offered this year twenty seven and ten incredible defensive player such a good passer the double team. The whole offense is built around him. You know he's a deserving. Mvp where did you stay in in nineteen ninety seven on this question heading into the finals? Do you remember your do. This was none of us like watching. Utah back then okay. No-one did and even though there was never series of ours necessarily rooting for Jordan. I was I wasn't rooting for the Utah Jazz it just it was the NBA finals. It was on an there wasn't anyone. I was emotionally connected to about the entire time now because I was a huge Barkley guy and I know I'm biased. I've always thought Barkley was better than Malone and I think these this series is does not this. This is a bad series or Karl Malone fans by the way it's awful You had the number one guy in the history of the League setting you up on every single possession your entire career and malone was a really good shooter for big. He was incredible as a rebounder. He's pretty good as a passer as a closer on the wing was putting the knee up like pretty. Yeah Yeah and dude. He played every game. He played every game and he was actually a real tough guy. Like when he and Robin getting into it. There's part of me like want him to fight. Rodman for real because he would've twisted Rodman up. I mean he just he just would've but whenever I see some of those dollar memes about five four three build your Dream Team. Carl Malone's always unlike the four dollar line when he's on it and Barclays always on the three dollar line and when I think of peak bark versus people alone I know who I'm taking I'm taking Barclay. I wouldn't even argue it. But the the composite the full stat picture of WHO Carl Malone is is incredible so the fact that they're in this finals they have this incredible record. They're awesome at home. They have this amazing homecourt atmosphere. That's like ruthless. Which is part of the Rodman story when he says something about Mormons and gets fined. And then there's a weird Jim Gray interview where he starts crying before game six it. He was out to lunch. The sears right. He's he's so bad in the closing game I respected what Stockton and Malone did but it might have been the first time I was realizing something that you and I have just started talking about more and more the separation between playoff basketball regular season basketball. That if you'RE GONNA run this pick and roll with these two hall of famers you're GonNa win a bunch of games but when I look at Utah in the series there's like three or four guys who Utah they wouldn't even play in today's NBA. They're playing minutes in the NBA finals. So you have the two thousand seventeen finals. Golden State averages one twenty one point six a game ninety one shots a game in the finals games. The cavs were one fourteen point. Eight nine point two goes again this ninety seven finals and it gets worse. The next year the Bulls for the series eighty seven. Point eight points. Jazz were eighty seven. Point two seventy four point eight field goals for the bowl. Seventy one point two for the jess say that the differences. What how many shots? The difference is basically thirty five shots again towed out a lot of that too. You could talk about. It's not even defense. It's not in both teams. Were slow paced teams. Chicago'S SLOW PACED team. Because they're running their stuff but when you're running these side pick and rolls or malone a pin down where somebody comes up only to try to get it back to him in the post that takes time and that's what they did

"Are pretty confused by just everything that's happening basketball now and the clippers are starting to look like they might actually have to make a trade or something. Oh really that's one wildcard. You don't think it's enough that they beat the Lakers twice that they don't really care that there are a few games about how other clipper fans I know are freaking out. They don't think they're big enough for the playoffs. And Tripoli got that the twenty twenty championship odds there's still the favourite of post. Two fifty right Lakers also pushed to fifty bucks Plus Three Twenty Five rockets twelve twenty Denver fifty one south eighteen one philly eighteen. One PHILLY's soft. I'm sick of them already. Ready Enough Dallas thirty two one. Here's the one the actually to Utah's thirty five to one of Miami's forty two one There's is a pretty good case that Utah should not have thirty five to one odds and they should actually be like twelve to one more. I think they started at thirty thirty five to one right. No then they then they got bet down because Mike Conley trade but then they won like tons under there would like nine at it last time. Yes so they started out pretty rocky. Conley Conley was terrible. Conley gets hurt. They find their stride when he's out of the lineup and then kind of figure out what their identity is and they made a good trade. That traded for Jordan Clarkson will scoring the bench. But I think I think it's way more wide open than people think and if you could have a team that could potentially make the finals at thirty five to one. They're tough match-up for the for the clippers at least because the sure sign while the heat. Your heat lost to the Knicks tonight. I'm pretty sure so. Yeah that was rough there they have a trade to make. I loved to talk you about that. You know I'll I'll check with Dana if there's time on our show but yeah maybe income up. "All right cousin's House here Sunday night just made it through a topsy-turvy round two and oh hold on a second. Come on in Joe Joe is GonNa Joe's must introduce out hold on Joe. Hers Sell on behalf of everyone on the bad gamblers hall of fame. We WanNa tell you you've been inducted into our not thousand twenty class. Congratulations Joe I know. I know you say you gained weight over the holidays. But is that real you with the big blue jacket. Thank you thank you for having me. That's great sad. This is incredible congrats. Man I'm so happy for you. This is great. She's GonNa Happen. I should tear up. I gotTa tear up eager his third time you have so God we could share this together Me and coach cower. I can't believe it So they induct coach cower into the the into the hall of fame which we just were roasting Damasec our friend who's the steelers Fan Meal enhance just killing him for twenty four straight hours. Our about all the coaches who should be over coach Cower and then twenty four hours later Jimmy Johnson. He gave you go so yeah. That's the way to do it. Tough one for Dick for me. Although he's got to be like what the what the hell what else did I have to do for a guy who just spent most of his career. Crying locker rooms. I mean I think they're afraid of what would happen if they inducted him. If he would probably never ever stop weeping right he would see the guy and he just immediately have been sobbing for three days but he was not only. Did he win a super bowl. Oh he inspired a a pretty mediocre dizzy. Football movie with through. Yeah played by Greg Kinnear so This is a bittersweet round two for me the Patriots weren't playing. Yeah I noticed that too. It was really weird. GotTa say it was the first round to in like a decade. Where go pats and I just got to enjoy football and enjoy game? Oh it at an enjoy gambling at I got I got murdered. I four no against the spread and loss is just a a bundle of money. I think you did the same Last week right. Yeah yeah well. So what's let's do. AFC first and then we'll take a break and we'll do NFC all right. which game do you want to do the Sunday game to Saturday game well Little more fresh. It's fresh in our minds. Let's do chief if some of their chiefs taxes so everything goes round for the chiefs right away. It feels like the ultimate angry game. We've been here many times. Anyone who had the chiefs in at t's anyone who had super bowl money on them And it's one of those moments where you're like. Oh Yeah Andy Reid. What the held it I just do and then twenty one? Nothing seems like the Texans are going for their fourth touchdown and fourth and inches and united disagreed on in this we aren't we hated US move. I did because I just felt like they were doing whatever they wanted. They in ABS THEY CALL I. He calls a timeout bill. Bryant seems to think timeouts are like toothpicks at the Maitre d' station at a restaurant grabbing just going through him. I I use another one without. It's good I like that. Thank you So he calls the time out to then set up the field goal when the alternative was. You really try to go for the Hammer. You go before touchdowns. Worst case scenario. They're trapped on their own five yard line then have to go ninety five yard score salmon. They set for the field goal. Kickoff huge return all of a sudden it's twenty one seven and within five seconds. It's a tie game and nobody knows what the hell is going on or almost none. The chiefs took the lead. What was it twenty? Eight th twenty four twenty one texans up and then that she eventually at half they. They had the lead. But here's well say I bill. O'Brien probably a bunch of mistakes. But I don't necessarily think that was one of them not going for it on fourth and one. I say they're up four touchdowns they're up four scores with the field goal. It's twenty four nothing right. Yeah last week in fourth and one not a great play. Call Shawn Watson Ghetto stuffed get stuff but they don't put them in space. which is a quarterback keeper? So you're sugge- like what's the play you want there. Because it's Carlos Hyde is not going to be afraid of Carlos Hyde. It's it's not gonNA be play action you'RE GONNA be. You're going to be happy if it bounces off. Fells hands or something. So what's the play call. I thought Seattle in the in the second game today ran the absolute absolute perfect fourth and one. They exactly what I want with an athletic quarterback play action. They have to obey the. HP Dive quarterback rolling out. He is ability to scramble or throw. And I think it's unstoppable if you have an athletic quarterback it that's the play if on the other team I don't ever want them to rent. I don't know I don't know that you have to respect back to the tailback dive there with Carlos at all is allies or watts. But out again. O'Brien makes an atrocious call later on so it doesn't really really matter but at some point you gotta blame the team. Twenty four th through. And they weren't even close to stopping them after that like you said Hardman's return for gambling purposes plus three twenty five the chiefs for plus three twenty five. You checked in with me you said well. When are we gonna live at the chiefs as well? I have to. I have the equivalent of two cars on the chiefs. Right now you know Honda accords. Nothing nothing important but Still I couldn't bet him an a plus three twenty eighty five bucks to win the half to win the half at twenty four nothing. There were seventy to one odds and they did it. They won't have had and just launch themselves from there so joke. I texted you after. O'Brien settled for the field goal. We're not waiting for nothing. I was in the living room by myself with my dog. Willie I looked at Willie. I looked them right in the eye and said the chiefs are win in this game and I texted you and I thought the odds are going to be like ten to one was twenty four. Nothing they hadn't even I didn't have to first downs. And you're like yeah. It's plus three twenty five so even Vegas was going yeah. We're not really buying this yet. My my issue with uh-huh Brian who I think is just perennially bad in all situations You can't be aggressive one time or not aggressive rest of one time and then super aggressive the numb with you there. It's a mindset. It's an I think what we saw yesterday with the titans. The Titans never would have not gone for it on Fourth Ornette now granted there Derrick Henry but their mindset was we're going into Baltimore and we're throwing haymakers and we're entering the kitchen sink and we have to actually take the game from these guys in Houston's leg Let's settle for a field goal. I don't ever want to settle when I'm a huge underdog on the road. I think he believes in his defense. They were died homes. Denno you should be. You can believe in your defense. I think twenty four nothing. I'll think that's anything horrible. Or they stop him homes or were the chiefs just dropping passes because it's like the ladder And I saw that net drove me crazy with the ravens to like these by teams. It really seems like I. I don't understand I it's one thing I know you didn't play the week before. Yeah but is everyone vacationing in a different spot. There's still practicing right. Receivers didn't go to Belize and the quarterbacks and go to the Puerto Rico right I I don't understand. Ny there that out of sync both games. It's a tough on because you would have thought that the niners had to we had one week off but they they had a really big week seventeen game. They were pretty crisp. That whole biking's game The Ravens looked at the hat and played in a month and a half right and And the chiefs just just Kinda slow start. I mean the the long touchdown stills that made seven nothing which is a great play and it was clearly there huge play that they figured out. Oh did this place going to work this week. Their oxide run it then. A stupid turnover awesome. It's fourteen nothing but I don't know I eight. I really thought that chiefs are gonNA come back and you did. Yeah in there. I think the difference in I know Lamar versus Mahomes is going to be the the the hot take conversation week right right. There was one major difference between the two of them and I think it's lack of experience with With Lamar but when things went round for the Ravens yesterday Lamar looked lamarcus. Had the frazzle book on his face and he wasn't leading it. I wasn't talking. We there was never a shot of him. Talking to his teammates encouraging people seeming like he was super confident he kinda had a look on his face. Like what the fuck is going on Mahomes the whole time was just seem like he was in a sports movie. China rally everybody and just seemed super confident. I never felt like the chiefs lost their confidence. Yesterday it seemed like the entire Raven steam almost immediately lost. Their confidence was kinda shocking to watch while I don't know if they lose their continent a gain confidence or did they just look at last week. Last year's there's loss against the Patriots to say. Oh no we're not suffering too terrible as at home just different I think Mahomes I. There's so much faster than everybody. Era Really are and as the game whereas on eventually it catches up to you and speaking of catches Kelsey when he wants to catch the ball is is the best known better. He's got no space. Create eight spacey. Doesn't have to mahomes where to throw him the ball they are just dynamite together. I don't expect the AFC championship to be like either of the Games right. Like I don't think I don't think Tennessee could stifled the chiefs for more than a quarter. But I also don't think the chiefs we're going to run it up like this. It's I you know when you wanted to bet the chiefs live did you. I think the Texans were done scoring because they wanNA fifty one seven run the chiefs true I. I didn't think the Texans were done scoring. I almost almost texted you about China. Talk through a chiefs tease with the over bed and I was just like it's not my week I'm command Amana downward spiral the last couple of weeks. I'm just staying away but I really did think this game. Once I found that Chris Jones was implying. it really did seem might've over was way too low. What it ended up with was in the fifties right? The over under was I'm not sure fifty one. Yeah ten and fifty one. Yeah that crazy got it alone. They've got the they met the fifty one alone. I have a couple chiefs fans in my life and they had a complete meltdown. When Chris Jones came out? 'cause they're like what happened he combat. He got hurt playing basketball in the locker room. I didn't understand it I I had no idea. He was even inconsideration that he might get hurt. It was such a God damn entertaining entertaining game though. I mean the first half seem like took two hours. We had the perfect announcers. Romo is in rare form. You he was he was calling stuff out. He really really had a grip of the momentum. Changes in what the offense is doing and as soon as the chiefs kind of locked it you could just tell by the way Romo is announcing that he just his fellow. They're going to score every time Romo also he was on your side about going on fourth and one but I was starting to feel bad for him I was like he should fail from nine hundred this game but next week's game I mean honestly. WHOA Texans Titans run that on A run that on against all odds podcast though the ratings will go down but the but I don't know where you put that game are they really is. There was like a twelve minute stretch on twitter when it became night at the Apollo about that Titans Texas say though Yeah Kenneth Clarke with saying they should flex it that I sent it to London. But I'm a I'm on the other side. I think the titans are gloriously entertaining and I will I will for the rest of my life. Never forgive myself for talking myself out of them in round two. After I had been in the Front seat of the bandwagon for two months. And a we talk about that in a second the the the leaving the chiefs game. We've seen the round to blow out many times. We've we've seen the offensive Ghassem and it's always a question of is that offense actually really awesome or.

"We set the over under eight and a half, and he smashed it the other one I was thinking was the rant Durant. What he did against the clippers. The clippers have been so impressive. Not impressive. I guess we'll know their impressive because that's not a very good team. And yet they show up thinking they're going to beat the warriors every night they play him. And it's Larry's and they came back game two. They get smashing game three. Which is what I expected in game. Four was went to game. Three was grizzly. I know I was thinking about going to that one too. It was it was eleven of four in like one minute. Was there? Any Durant out thing that you got to see live that you hadn't noticed before. Was there any new Bill Simmons? I seen him live so many times. Now, I'm gonna flip by pick. I must feel like the more. I talk about on like, I should be drinking. I just love the way hardens played all year. But the thing with the rent this time. It's the it's the array of shots said he hits. Like hardens do in a variation of four things every time. Right durant? Can post you up. He can pull up three he can do like the little pull up jumper that. He has he drives to the bath. Better handle though. And sometimes when Durant drives and requires a little bit earlier on the Embiid stuff. Like, I worry about a seven foot one guy driving where that's when you can be smart like this is gonna sound dominant. That Kemba is not my pick. But I convinced now that Kemba is as good as he is because he's so small. We'll save that for Hornets podcasts for summer August. But what was cool is? He just hit every shot of here. It was a little bit different. And you're picking Durant then because I'm picking Durant. But the warriors as a team I like the way hardens play more this year. I honestly think this is hard year. I really do. I really deeply feel and you got to be holding up there. I think the rockets are going to win the title this year to is is the correction that'll happen. Be like wow us tired against the Spurs and that clippers team. Think I think he's got it this year. I think he's the guy. And I think what you Roosters what asked era loop for harden against Janas in the NBA finals. Well, you already bet on it. So you're not the right. Other ask. Yeah. It'd be rooting for the rockets, and that's what have you had no money on it. And you're just at home and you're thinking about basketball. Well, I don't like this gatekeeper of thought legacies. The irony is, I don't really like the way the rackets place. So I'm always reading some like even telling you right now. I'm just going to let everybody know I'll be rooting really hard for the bucks. Say Eric Bledsoe. You hitching your wagon. The whole deal pests CJ Wilson. Hey, let's talk about the different soon, working hard and working smart. I like to work hard. Sometimes I were export. I'm telling you. The rockets are gonna win the title this year. That's a product of me, working hard and working spark is a combo dad. The look I asked Daryl Morey I was like how are the other players regard Harding because I think this is a really important little detail. Do the other players as their reverence about how well that guy's question on the data. I asked him that you should have sideline. And he. And he was like actually I am starting to hear like the guy the way the guys talk about him. It's starting to get that feel so yeah, somebody asked me the other night about him. And it was it was somebody in in sports important person. And he goes to see what's his deal Hardin. He goes he he had heard, and I went, you know, what I go. I think there was a time that that was kind of the consensus on him, but a Beyonce. I don't really hear that anymore whereas his ass off. Yeah. Added something's game every every pro hardened comment. He sounds like somebody's ZipRecruiter. Whatever then if I'd their technology and tools, make hiring more efficient and effective magical. "Whatever you're making like what deal with this season first, and then try to get because they thought they had to go nuclear to get out. Like, that's the point that I've always on. Lakers. Right. They were like, look we gotta hit the button, we're gonna make this nasty. And we're going to do it in the problems always been it's not just as easy as that. When you're dealing with a team that sorta was for sale and now apparently isn't for sale. And if you want to buy the team and move it you can't move it. I mean, there's all sorts of weird things going on with what she say gentry's quote. Oh, which one or he says it up. Now, he said that trade request led to the most toxic outcome for two teams of anything. He seemed in the league in the thirty one years. He's been in the league he said it had most situation for two teams that he's ever seen. And it's true it destroyed the Lakers. I mean, it's it's it's got a body count. And it also like here's what I don't get if you're Davis. And I know it's like, you're you're on CO. Anthony, we get it. We get it. You're in charge of you. There's no loyalty to the players. So why she blow the fence? I've heard all the rhetoric. But you can't do that you played for those people for seven years, and they went to your games, and you lived in the city, and there's a way to leave that you can still leave and not have those people think you're an asshole, which is how this played out. It's just seems avoidable. New orleans. I'm like deck is an ASO. I can't believe I rooted for him looking at all I think he's incredibly impressionable. Yeah. And I don't know how many voices he listened to because I'll never think he's a bad guy as bad as this has gone. I don't think he's back. I don't think he's an asshole. You don't handle this? I think the way he hit her this made it seem like he was an asshole. And he's not. And that's the frustrating thing. It's like you didn't just didn't have to play out this way. No who in your life. When you're the famous guy who thinks you know, I can see LeBron sang by. Hey, man, when they turn on you. But looking back on it. It was bullshit. The way the world reacting when LeBron just decided to go to become a member of the Miami Heat. You know, it kinda it kinda was like I left. We disagree on them. What because he was supposed to whatnot do a TV show. No. Because the way his season ended. How weird those last couple Celtics games where we're through line with Ames. Right. We still unexplained. We still have no answer at offer. What happened there at the way? He took the jersey off. And it just seemed like he had one foot out the door that whole series. And then does the TV show gives Cleveland no heads up and just Rams it right into them. I I don't think that was defensible. I don't care like to do that. But this was almost like your heat here. Right. But this is almost like you're ninety ten theory on the player the the actual transaction itself. Are you mad about the way? He looked checked out against Boston. Okay. And he's always done this. Now, we've now seen since two thousand ten like when he sees a situation. That's that's not going his way he removes himself from it. It's like if you like a subtle detachment, right? Like if he were at a high school party anywhere high school age kid. Yeah. And like he was friends with star quarterback. And they lost to the rivals. He'd stand at the other side of the party like I just feel like that's kind of what he does. And he's done it with his Lakers team, Cody hubby's through it too. Right. So those guys a lot of like this isn't going. Well, I'm going down in flames. And fuck everybody else. So back to that shop the origin of that. I can see where LeBron and I could see him kind of get no path where he's right. I would agree with him being like as is bullshit..

"In nineteen ninety eight felt like it would have been a huge win. Right. We had no history with foreign dudes to for him to be. I think he's one of the best sixteen seventeen players of all time for that. To happen was inconceivable in nineteen ninety eight when did you start to think it was actually potentially maybe going to get there? People. Always that. Did you believe? And I'm like, I didn't believe this. Nobody believed this then Nelson didn't this. Now, I think he was going to be an all star. When I thought him play live in Derm. Remember, they they draft. And then it's the lockout. And then if the temblor of ninety eight and I'm on my annual go watch the trip in England. And I convinced the morning news. Then meted Germany. It's like going from Dallas in New York. So I got so watch play right to league game there. And I was like this dude is like I've never seen a seven footer shoot. Like, a, you know, I'm I'm a Braves fan. So Bob, Matthew was the you know, he was the greatest and Bob Nakajima had range, and he was considered the best base of big man, probably before jerk, but he didn't extend out that kind of ring. There was no three point line for the bulk of his career. I'm sure he would have been great at it. If he made the judge. But you didn't think you start of Makhdoom as for a little bit closer in. I mean, Dirk had this range that we had never seen before. So I thought okay, they'll learn all the physicality stuff. But you if you shoot like that you're gonna be dumping. So I thought all star. But. I remember the top twenty player. I mean, nobody that. Yes. So you mentioned the lockout. We didn't get to see him in Boston that first year. That's what I was going to all the games back then and you know as a fifty game season. So there were the west and the east really didn't play that much. Then the next year he came in. And he was kinda rounding into dirt form at that point. And actually looked it up as you were just talking 'cause I remember he was awesome. And so he he was ten fifteen with twenty six points in his first game in the garden, but Pierce to game too. But I remember leaving that game. And being like, oh, man. I don't I don't know what that is. But that's that's something. And like you I revered macadear on on those buffalo teams because the Celtics had some great series with him that with them. And then ironically, the Celtics traded for him, and he was terrible. I don't know what happened to him in the late seventies. But it was this MAC. It is six foot ten. Center who his game was twenty feet from the basket that he wasn't really a Senator. But that's where they played him in it all kind of worked, and that's what we thought Dirk was going to be for for. I don't know the first couple years of his crews. When are they when do they realize that you actually needed to play him with the center? Well started as a fault word. I mean that how messed up it was because in those days, you know, the the prototypical four with Karl Malone. He was the best four man in the league bread. And you know, Dirk had no chance of of physically matching up with with him. And so they actually started the fall for until they finally realize no he's gotta be a four. We're gonna let him play his way of four. And it was just, but you've got to become a defensive rebound, or we know you're not even gonna be in position to be an offensive rebounder. We know you're gonna be a rim protector, but you have to be a defensive rebound or and he really. Worked on that. You know, he I think it was just the last game or through. He he became what is it five guys with ten thousand defensive rebounds in their career. So right, we'll be in his career average lift under eight for rebounding because the last year's obviously have minutes gone down. But he became in his prime of very serviceable defensive rebound..

"We look we had a chance to talk to the chance to meet with his team. We'd love to have that fight. They've gotta figure out what you got now, which is appropriate is Dante and his team at the right thing for him to do. And you got a little bit of a clash of business models. Right. You got top ranking ESPN that's a paid. It's a pay TV model with. Pay per views. You got we're the replay. We're subscription Serbs put the fights on his own, and you got PBC, that's, you know, part pay per view park, pay television. So the way so what's the ceiling, though, is it like for you know, you look at the next four years you become a major player with some of these rights to be popping up a believe that we'll have a a robust and a profitable subject consumer subscription business in a pretty quick timeframe in the United States. And remember, we're not a not a US business where global business. Our biggest businesses right now are Japan, Germany, Italy, we've lost in Spain will in Brazil in the next month. We we are first mover and trying to capture around the globe. Go in be first mover. We got good technology. We're buying writes, the US is an anomalous market in the world. The biggest market in the world Yang can't ignore it. We gotta be here. But we're in Japan. We have the J-League. We have Japanese baseball. We have major league baseball. We have more baseball than anybody in a country. For whom baseball's the one of the two most important sports along with soccer, and we have more soccer. Yeah. In there. So that's a different market, Germany Champions League, Italy of Syria in Brazil will have a lot of international rights will be able to create. I think a a niche service were not an inch service in Japan were one of the two major players in Japan now, and but we need presence in New York because New York, I'm not New York in the US. Yeah. It's where the financial markets are were big investors are and so we got a proposition. I think cleverly I just joined in months ago already figured out the boxing proposition and simply tried to help make it by going and getting the deal. I did do sports deals Rancho went and. Help do the deal yet canal as a way who's the most. We now have the most important Hispanic fighter. We have the most important western Europe fighter, and we have the most important eastern European fighter. So yeah. When I like to have the most important u s fighter. I would don't mean that as poaching. Don't mean that in the single anybody. You simply ask me we would love to figure out a way to have Donte wilder fight Anthony Joshua because it's a fight fans will but I'm not trying to intrude on their business. They have good business do as well. We're going to try to figure out right now business models are in the way of that happening, right and business miles or real things. People trying to make a living. So this happened with design sponsor my podcast for couple months. We had we dinner like what September October, and you had said. You know, you'd had overlay probably the year. So before that, you would add a real come to Jesus. Momo the ladder stuff in your life or Daschle some friendships you felt like you had kind of gone away. And you're trying to rekindle some relationships you had. So we had a really good dinner. We talked about a bunch of stuff and the saddle be funded you something together because it was really that. Simple rip. But it was good. It was a meaningful. Denver for me. 'cause you know, obviously, you were a usually important guy for me and even with the stuff here. There's so much DNA of all the stuff I learned from you and ESPN and grant land kinda really figured out how to put together as a business hair, but it wouldn't have value. Some glad we get along it. Life day has a certain charm and incense to it. But I I was naive about some of the things you mentioned the politics thing sort of naive right on Nadia. I'm a little bit of an idealist. And and wanted to change the world we try to use the SP's to change the world riot. I never I believe moun- rhetoric that look there's would not play in politics. You know, we're we're involved in in diversity, and tolerance and opportunity for everybody and hacking that be political is been politicized in this country. But I didn't believe that celebrating the rights of people to have whatever to be who they were was a good thing. And how can you be against that? You know, if if if Bruce Jenner felt that his the he was Caitlyn Jenner who's to say that he should denies himself herself that right? And and I was a little naive at a lot of the world doesn't think that. I think in especially for me is being side. People were like, can you your show us games in highlights? It's not I don't I don't think I was with you on pretty much all this stuff. But I also like I look at what is being is. Now, it does make more sense as business like here here sports here highlights. Here's some shows about people talk about sports where stay at your way. Yeah. We're good. Yeah. I had the. I have some level of simply for people who are like, you know, I'm gonna watch sports. It's a retreat. It's a I used to hear it from George would say look people won't arrest. But from all the controversy instead of going on the hard part was we were news organization and ESPN is a hard seeing to compartmentalize and people won't to compartmentalize it we wanted to be everything yet to the safe thing we want to be a news organization. It sort of felt like you could use the big umbrella via subpoena do anything. Yeah. And some people it's it's back in two thousand four right wins, no longer cuddly. And when you had this sort of politics of polarization in nation, you're. Suddenly were forced to pick sides, not many people who spanned both sides sports actually has the ability to do that. No, nobody doesn't like sports. And in fact, a lot of the biggest sports fans tend to be fairly conservative ranch into be in the southeast and the midwest. That it is really hard to read. I think it is. That's why the ringer has been it's different for lotteries in the grim. But it's just that site was designed for desktops, you know, in two thousand ten we were like we want people read it on their computer related there wasn't even ipads back. Then no, look I've made a really hard transition for me towards reading the New York Times overwhelming. He'll phone. Yeah. It's crazy right in his crazies, windy, do one of those investigative stories. It's leads into a double truck in the newspaper, which is six thousand eight thousand words, I can't get through it on the phone amid I I may love there's a big story today on produce pharma. Right. He's the best thirty stories. They're just thirty stores thirty stores and heart thirty filmmakers, which was a direct, you know, again, like the magazine being different being next relative to Sports Illustrated dates be at that time was a standard. And you gotta figure out an alternative and pretty arrogant to well, you know, when you're when you're killing it, which can be your logic our thing, and they were just like oh that great good luck. With that. We're still the leaders ado river also was. Spectacular financially. We had a contract. Somebody had the idea was gonna Connor that look every filmmaker have we don't want anywhere shea with each and every filmmakers sports where they to tell one of the very first ones we signed. It was Barry Levinson. Yep. Who'd grown up in Baltimore. And had the story of the Baltimore Colts band that never quit playing even though the Colt Earth Day took the colts to to Indianapolis the band stayed behind on opening day. They would show up in the stadium and play in bear lives and did a spectacular film. I cannot remember the name of it best abandoned at that ban the wooden that. But once we got him than we could go get other people. Realized it was like are we bear Levinson peoper, Mike Tolan? I think what happened was new people came in charge who weren't in filet with thirty. And they have you know, you want your own thing at that point. But eventually, I think we were putting these documentaries that people are just calling them third thirties, and they weren't even thirties at that point. We realize all right. This is an look you had a little thing where the company was in Bristol and was about Bristol. And this was kind of a group of people who are in New York too. "Manuscript of the book in a Jeep driving from Johannesburg tone. Jesus your vacation Blohm fund team. No, I was the World Cup in South Africa. Oh, and and got the manuscript on the way from I'd read it once before but rented a second time going it was from Johannesburg's who Blomfontein in my relations that takes about six hours. And I read the entire book. I didn't have too many objections to it. Right. I mean. He did Jamila road Negga. I gave one interview that like two weeks later as like oh shit. He's probably gonna use a leftist of I think a lot of people think I didn't realize it was a lot of people were that situation. Yeah. Where you know, you end up, especially if you're comfortable with somebody say three things and those are being the three things. Yeah. Good book. It was remember you wanted to actually which I thought was a good idea establish a hall of fame that was a lot of fame. Well, it was alive. It'd be fifty players and you actually hear menu. Thank you had to take somebody out at some point cocktail which. Fabulous concept. Yeah. But a little too. A little too difficult for the the league's. Yeah. To deal with. So oh, seven I'd sign a new deal and part of the deal was to get more involved with the content side, which I was really excited about and sent you memo Yoon wash for an a had the title in the memo, the third thirty. But the premise was basically it was two things HBO as taken sports documentaries. Why are we allowed that to happen? We put out a ton of content. Nobody knows which wants to watch too much stuff. And then our anniversary is coming up, and we love celebrating anniversaries in this was two years. Earlier universities. Oh nine. Yeah. So is like something about this makes sense in you like about it. Yep. Bubba think we remember the you mentioned before the twenty fifth anniversary hadn't gone over very well. Right. It was a bunch of lists. And the trans of great outside this. Thirty inverse authorities. But I think part of the reason for the idea was reaction to let's do something that'll be fun and different. And I do remember talking about this will be for the fans. Right. It'll be a treatment surprise it won't be a bunch of list. And here's the greatest low ranking the last thirty years, and you had the concept was thirty films for thirty years. Why remember initially was ten ten and ten and I think it was like it was on players Tannen teams events. And then eventually we just threw it out. Once we started meeting with filmmakers, they would always come up with their own idea. But like, oh, yeah, that's cool. It's that we remember. We sat in a room with Ritz-Carlton battery park bunch of people. Right. That's when we didn't know if it was going to happen, right? Some people didn't want it to happen though. He didn't want to happen. I was in charge of content we doing so well, financially you had enough money to be a launch and e sixty to be able to hire writers and do things and remember we put a big. Wax board up and sort of said, you got to sort of look at those eighties nineties zeros, and sort of think about that here sports. You gotta think about and don't forget NASCAR. Don't forget, you know, women's tennis. And we said it's got to be diverse in its gotta it's gotta have a variety of themes..

"Sound risk assessment. Like, we can't we're going to offer the max to this guy. He will take it. Because every work that's been offered. The max takes it. And then what are we stuck with it? Can't he flourish here? Can we help him? Void injury. Here. What we have around him. I I don't mind that trade one bit. I think. From Washington DC sitting in objectively observing that the way that went down. I thought they did fine in that trait. I thought they got good assets. They clear the decks they're ready for New York to be back on the basketball map. Unlike what's going on here in chocolate city the basketball team? I don't know what to do. What are we supposed to do? John wall tore his achilles tendon in his home. Are they want me to believe that he slipped and fell in his home, Bill Simmons? You're almost fifty years old. I'm almost fifty years old. Let me tell you the last time, I slipped and fell in my home. I can't think of it slips mall in our home is what professional athletes use. When some shady shit has gone down that they had no business being involved in under the influence, not on the influence. I don't know the last prominent athlete I can think of who fell down and derailed a terrific athletic moment was Dustin Johnson who slipped on a slippery. Floor the week of the masters and miss the masters in a good chunk of the season where supposed to pay a hundred seventy one hundred eighty million dollars to a guy who's entire basketball identity is built on his physical strength and speed home is out of the leave as far as I'm concerned. And I like what to do is S T R E T C H. What am I supposed to do? That's incredible. I wanna give my thoughts on that one. Second. I I wanna do this read for you. Here's the thing about being a Boston sports fan the century house with twelve titles in counting. It just completely ruined.

"So all that was great. But I still didn't have an idea, you know, someone's got to happen. In an episode at salvage something has to happen in the pilot, and I had no ideas until my best friend was going through divorce, and he had his son was eight years old at the time. And he came to me really sad one day because the night before I think Charles Barkley had thrown somebody through the glass window of this. Right. I, and my friend said, you know, Jake is son Jake, and I were were really starting to bond over sports, and now with my not being around so much who were as male role models going to be, you know, who's going to be there to say Jake, you shouldn't throw somebody through a plate glass window. And so I had my idea for the first episode of sports night, take the peer crowds. A character haven't going through a divorce. Have this kind of news come over? And he sort of at the end of his rope in the pilot episode. You know, he calls himself a PR guy for punks thugs. And then bring in the redemptive value of sports from from left field. Somebody just does something extraordinary. You know, the thing that makes us watch ten thousand meter race something we wouldn't normally watch. But if you if you tell us if you Bill Simmons tells us a story about it before we watch it. We're we're gonna watch it like it's the seventh game the World Series. Whoa. Is he has been to that? You. I think he SPN a like the show. It seemed like they were okay with it. Yeah. I mean, there were ESPN people who reached out to me. And and said they liked Overman was a fan. Stuart Scott Linda Cohn. I mentioned was not a fan. Interesting. I and I'm not sure why. But corporately I soon that they were she gets him. John Walsh time when you're researching that show. Yeah. Yes. Yeah. Right. Yeah. I mean, interesting guy. Yeah. He actually would have been a good character for the show because he could he could barely see. But he was the most important TV person. They had for years he would have been, and I imagined that one day there will be some sort of a movie about you know, 'cause it all started with two guys who wanted to broadcast Conn women's softball. Right. They've talked about I mean, my friend. Jim Miller did the oral history of it. And I think they action in a movie, but to try to the first five years of it, basically of how crazy was the the other thing that I put that show that they stuck a laugh track on it for a few of the year. That was like your first where you really flipped out on a network company. Right. It's from the sheriff. I flipped out. But here's what happened. I remember. I remember rooting for you because I was always on the side of the artists guy preaching like I love that. This guy's going at them about this. Laugh track thing it listen. If this had happened today, of course, there'd be no laugh track on. No, that's like the prototype. Single camera show. Yes. But ABC was concerned about sports night because it didn't really look or feel or sound like a sitcom a like a half hour show..

"You're not gonna they're not gonna treat. They just have to figure out what the hell to do with our men John wall. So two questions for you can ask you two questions. Yeah. To sort of a lightning rod names here. Yeah. Is Russell Westbrook. Average a triple double and not making all NBA team. If the with the shooting percentages. It's very possible. I think so too. He's not he's not the other name in Francis. For me is not Russell Westbrook. I do think though out of all the guys. We're talking about he has the best chance to go on a hot streak. And by the end of the air will be secondary thirteen agree because you know, I forget was talking about this with the wasn't on a podcast watching that Thursday game, which I watched closely because I really wanted to get try to get a feel for what the hell was going on the o'casey Westbrook's playing really hard athletically. He seems like the same Westbrook to me. It's just like he's lost the ability to shoot consistently. But I don't feel like he's slipped physically worth worthless. At all. And if anything like defensive way, it seems like he's trying harder than he ever has. And he's getting more steals and all that stuff. And I wouldn't be surprised if his offense came around. But I I love this past first version him when he's driving driving to the he's those athleticism to get by every once and then he is actually looking for his teammates down. I like watching him. I like watching this version him he just can't. Shoot. So I thought a lot about him for all star purposes because by the numbers other than the triple double thing, which like I just can't I can't overstate how little I care about the triple double thing. I just don't care. Well, we we've both unanimous. I don't care by every other number. But that he's a borderline all star case, I, but you just it's funny. You just feel him in a way that you don't feel Mike Conley, drew holiday tomorrow's and on every single possession. Just just he is just a force that you have to deal with every single time. The thunder have the ball. And in a way that is a little bit scary. Like, think coaches worry about him wore they do about all these other guards that are candidates for that spot. But then you're like well that also translates into like five terrible shots every game that resulting zero points or fast breaks away, or whatever. So it's like he he's doing for the. The three pointer at the worst the three pointer at the worst possible time in the game. When you have mental. Mm-hmm. But I just like like their whole there's four minute spans or like holiday was on the floor school. I didn't really notice that like with Russ. It's like you gotta deal with him every single time. And it's it's it's scary. Like, I think he's he's well he's going to make the all star team. Anyway, the coaches will name him. But if you're going twelve in the west it's actually kind of shaky case, but I'm leaning towards that he should be on it. I forgot to ask him. Either question. Guys question. I'm pro Westbrook. This share how about that? I think he's actually weirdly underrated now except for the fact that he can hit the side of a barn. Can I ask you my other question? What are we to do with this Jimmy Butler season? It's not going to second deserve any awards for Bill Simmons. I'll tell you that much. Their words, but they don't unfortunately have them on the ballot that I would like to give for it. I. So so. By the by some things he should be like he's in the east. Now is as you said when you're getting down to the last two all star spots in the east. It's not like it's not like a YouTube bar. I like for me personally..
