Give us a quick run down on the mustard Family Grand Hotel. I know Rusty's out a whole bunch of questions for you as well. Well is you know when I think some of your listeners probably know we, you know we made the difficulty but I think right decision for the hotel in our family to sell a couple years ago. And, you know, looking back. Obviously, we had no idea that this awful pandemic would hit the world. Ondo also our industry in these new owners that, you know, have the financial depth. Torto do in a way that obviously we would been, we would have struggled and And as importantly, they're operating group really has the bench if you will, who would have thought for a pandemic, But they did. They did and just did a great job. My season and, um, you know, the hotels. Really, um, structural never been a better better shape, though. The pool's looking is gonna be breathtaking. Uh, and, uh And and as importantly, I think we're gonna get summer coming up. I think people are looking to travel and hopefully these shots they were all taking, uh, will kick in. And this this spike that we have now will diminish in Have a good summer. That's great. Janet's I love going to the grand. You've been such a great host over the years. Um, that's gonna be hard to top when I should tell our listeners when, when does the grand open for business this season? And and how has it changed because of the pandemic and trying to handle all those sorts of things? Well, there is a soft opening rusty the upcoming weekend. The 29th. So I guess next weekend and then fully the following. Um um, the weekend of the The seventh actually will be fully open for for for guests and all of our services. But you know, a Zafar is the pandemic goes, It's like, like other restaurants and facilities. We've had the limit The numbers that we conserve and various spots. Obviously, we're Were massed up, and we're sanitizing in a way that I never thought possible, which is great. But fortunately you know, we have 80% of the ion the State park and we can enjoy the great outdoors and the natural beauty That is that is magma. Yeah, one of the things I've always enjoyed when I've been there at the dining room. You're Solomon Shea has been those wonderful breakfast but face. I think I've got more than my fair share. Is that because you brought zip locks with Wei Wei had to sell right? Because we were really losing our shirt on you. Well as you might expect them getting out of the operation part of that night. I hope like you that the buffet will be able to return a soon as you know, the guideline tell us that we can and so hopefully that will that will kick in at some point this summer. What about that wonderful guy Kenny? Great friend of mine. Who's I don't know whether his exact title is maitre d but he is such a kind, wonderful guys. He's still up a pair of when I go into that solemn O. J. He sure is. And he is he is official title is Vice president hospitality, But of course we everyone knows them and refers to him as chief because he really is the chief. Not just that dining room but kind of The core of the I think the guest experience agreement cell and that that warmth and hospitality that he exudes and and quite frankly makes his crew exude, which is great. Well, I'm really glad to hear that. Kenny's been kept on and I hope that's true for so many of your folks because one of the beauties of the grand and one of the things I know my wife and Our family have enjoyed over the years to seeing those familiar faces year after year after year, Bill I don't know how long you go back. I I think I started late seventies going to the grand hotel and, you know, obviously knew your dad who was just a wonderful host and made us feel comfortable and at home And then so many good things that the grand I mean, I think back, you know, I've been part of some of those events, Bill. I know you have to where governors and you've had, you know, President, all sorts of folks have come to the ground. It's really been a historic place and a very welcoming and friendly place where the shooting family appreciated Dan Muster, and we're talking with Dan Muster of the mustard family and grand hotel, fame and history. And and Dan and his family with my wife and I would bring our kids and they were young and sometimes they were behave Sometimes they weren't But you'd still let us come in your dining room, which has been a blessing, Dan Muster, tell us while you're not Engaged with the operations. The grand Hotel as you once were. We got just a few minutes left here. Would you share with us? Some of your other entrepreneurial activities that you shared with me about? Uh, Arnold on Dan muscled Arnold Transit. Well as a transfer or kind of trance, you know, moved into the semi retirement. I took a couple months off and we purchased Arnold Trade Company, which is the remnants of my wife's grandfather, Prince Senator Prentice Browns. Great business. Um, and then we also, um we're able to negotiate with the Shepard family to purchase their freight business and combine the two and so we're in the I've moved from, Um I'd like to think I n guest service to now we move forces and creates and all the all the great ingredients for fudge all summer, and, uh, kind of kind of a completely different business. But one that serves Island ondas important and essential. Obviously, we we look, we're on the island and we need these. Goods and services year round, and that's what we provide. And furthermore, I like boats, and it's it's kind of it's fun. How do you do? Moving in Midland to that's where Rusty Hills and I argued, or Lansing do do other moving services. Where is just just restricted to Magnolia Way? Are the street somewhere in the streets. We have We have four vessels. And so I guess we could come down a Zafar is well, we'd come down to Chicago or or Detroit. But no. We're pretty much in the Straits of Mackinac. I'm sitting this American water here. I got it. It sounds like you're open for business pretty soon, and I'm really hoping things go well, because I know the hospitality industry is really been hit hard by this, and I think there's a pent up demand, and I'm really hoping the grand and all of Mackinac Island gets to enjoy every But he coming back this season. And I, and we're seeing that we're seeing increased interest in the upcoming summer and I and, you know, I know personally that I'm excited to be outdoors again and do a little traveling. Hopefully. Apparently, I think he went into Deidra directly from puberty into old age. Yes. He's just skipped. All right. Bernie sanders. Thank you for that. So. Sanders this week is under a bit of heat. It's interesting. I wonder about the tactics behind the scenes of why we know about this story. And then I'll bring it up in a moment. Bernie sanders. I ran into him last night ran I mean, like physically. We we were out. So we were just speaking of Mercedes slap. I was at an event last night hosted by her husband match slap at the American conservative union. Actress Tia coast on Capitol Hill, which is normally a big gathering place Grachev Republicans like to gather there because it's kind of near where the RNC set up next to it. Right. Yeah. So some Democrats were there as well throwing their own party. So the place was running out for two different groups of Democratic Party and Republican party, which I thought was cats and dogs. So I'm walking out of the building and alongside amber. Our White House correspondent, the daily caller and saga and jetty. And we see Bernie, and she's she's she's a there's Bernie, so what should I ask him? She's asking about sexual harassment in this campaign. And the reason I said that is because you know, this week the New York Times out with this report that said that there was all sorts of what was referred to as a rotten sexual harassment that was seemingly never dealt with going on during the two thousand sixteen campaign throughout it. And Bernie Sanders had pleaded ignorance on CNN two nights ago. In fact, here's here's Bernie talking to Anderson Cooper about how he was just too busy to pay attention to the sexual harassment and just be clear. Did you did not know at the time about the allegations? Is that correct? Yes. I.

"To'real debate. Embiid evening and welcome to the second and final debate between the democratic f- Republican candidates for governor live from the WD studios here in downtown Detroit. The stakes are high, and we want you the voters to have as much information as possible before you head to the polls. This debate is being seen live tonight across the state of Michigan both on television and online we're going to cover as many subjects as we can as our our will allow and here's how it's gonna work tonight. Both candidates will be answering the same question candidate one. We'll have a minute to answer candidate to will. Then have a minute for their answer candidate one. We'll get an automatic thirty second rebuttal and then candidate to we'll get thirty seconds as well. And the candidates, by the way, we'll be alternating order throughout the hour. So let's welcome democratic candidates Senator Gretchen Whitmer and Republican candidate attorney general Bill shoot a coin toss determined that. Senator Whitmer will give her two minute opening statement first center. Thank you. I think we all know that we are living in precarious times. Our country. Our state our neighborhoods can feel hopelessly divided yet. I know that we can fix this. We can make Michigan a place where our kids stay our families thrive and other people come to for opportunity. We have a stark decision to make in this race for governor Bill shooting, and I couldn't be more different Bill Schutte shows up when the cameras are on. But when no one's watching. He makes decisions that hurt us. I worked with governor Snyder to expand Medicaid in Michigan and get more people access to healthcare Bill shoot. He went to court. He filed nine lawsuits to rip that healthcare way and to to eliminate coverage and protection for people with preexisting conditions. I'm fighting for my kids and for years because I believe every Michigan child deserves a great public school education. Bill Schutte argued in court that our kids don't even have a right to literacy, and he supports Betsy DeVos agenda. I believe everyone. And the LGBTQ community deserves full civil rights because it's the right thing to do and bigotry is bad for business. Bill Schutte wasted. Millions of our taxpayer dollars going all the way to the supreme court and losing in his battle against marriage equality, and I have a real plan to clean up the drinking water in Michigan and protect this resource. That is so unique to our state Bill Schutte was asleep at the wheel when people call and asked him for help fifteen complaints came into his office. And he didn't do a darn thing until the cameras show up. Real leadership is doing the right thing. Even when no one's watching real leadership means working across the aisle to deliver and to solve problems and not getting caught up in credit. If you're ready for a governor who can roll up her sleeves build coalitions and solve problems. I ask for your vote on November six attorney general Schutte. I'm Bill Schutte, and I'm working hard to serve as Michigan's next. Governor my grandparents for teachers, my mom and dad were high school sweethearts grew up in the great depression, the time of difficulty from Michigan in America. When I was just a boy six years old. My dad died of a heart attack. My mom. She was resilient raised my two older sisters in me as a single mom my wife Cynthia and I went to the same bus stop. And she and I Don, Heidi and son Bill attended public schools in Midland all the shoot is still called Midland home. I'm running for governor because I want Michigan to grow. And I want people to call Michigan their home state a place play live, not a vacation state the place they visit and I want Michigan to be a job state, growth, state and a paycheck state and the election. It's upon us right now in the question for Michigan is will we go forward or we'll go backward. Well, we're going forward. We're not going backward. Because we've lived through one laws decade the failed governorship of Jennifer Granholm. And you remember that fifteen percent unemployment five hundred thousand lost jobs and people left the state.

"Explains the dangers of this storm surge has the highest potential to kill the most amount of people. It also has the highest potential to cause the most destruction. But with this storm what's unique is its forecast. A stall over you know, in four to five days, dropping copious amounts of rainfall across Carolinas and end of Regina. We are a peninsula here and we prepare for these events. But when you have that kind of rain possibly seventeen to twenty inches what we saw last year in Houston, Texas, or what we've seen in other locales with with a tremendous amount of of rain that will come with the storm. And especially if it's a slow moving storm is going to create a tremendous amount of flooding. A new WD IV Detroit News poll shows a big lead for democratic governor candidate Gretchen Whitmer among likely voters in the upcoming election, Senator w stamina has a big lead over Republican challenger, John. James Whitmer leads among men and women over Republican Bill shooting and has an overall thirteen percent lead in this poll, but shoot he says he will win extreme left-wing approach to both policy economic forces. And it's the prescription of you know, having job crushing tax. Increases government, healthcare and more mandates that will drive businesses out of Michigan. "Work as a team to make things happen that would ensure success and success as in every american looks up and goes man my life's better because of conservatives because of the people that are in office right now on majority that's probably not going to happen and i i can't see that happening in michigan let me give you case in point michigan we pointed us out before and again we're coming up to an election in november that's going to be here before you know it blink of an eye you're gonna make sure that you don't screw up and vote for the wrong person and this was pointed out today on your defending fathers and i agree if bill shoot he gets the nod to go forward and be the candidate for governor this year two thousand eighteen it's over you're gonna wind up with a muslim governor a muslim governor or female communist either way is not good and you better get your act together and start working start working toward a real conservative governor and we need to this republican party not gonna eight nabet that the republican party michigan's one hundred percent against patrick kobe for the most part i'm not talking a little slices here there i'm talking en masse the entire republican party is not pulling for patrick cobra can they should be because he's the only one that's going to make a difference to make this state a shining example of what would happen with the conservative political bent here's the deal the republicans and again i want you to really think about this we've said this before the show but i want to repeat this the republicans standing up and saying hey elect us we're the best ones to help you go forward for your kids the future etc whatever the case may be but to say look what we did with fixing the roads no you know you didn't so they're not going to be able to do that right you get what i'm saying here you are roads in michigan i'm talking just michigan politics now know the roads are worse now than they were when we had democrats in charge way worse way worse okay well okay we'll give you that how about we shrunk government we let's just keep more euromoney rather than paying for a bunch of stuff in government knew you you make the decisions because you're smyrna.

"By side and i'm so many important reforms over the course of the last seven years and being up more than a half a million jobs that are hit the seventeen year low in unemployment state and trump growth i mean this is the sorts of things that not very many people thought were possible back in twenty ten when we when we won that election and and so to have his support moving forward how much he cares about the the next generation and our in our our state where we go from here really does need the world to me and i don't blame me for for that enthusiasm over the endorsement is it has nothing to take lightly and you certainly don't and we've been happy to cover that improvement here in michigan under the under the steiner tutelage during his his term as governor but the people also elected donald trump in two thousand sixteen and he's backing her opponent bill shooting of course and i'm wondering about the separation that you created with donald trump in the way that that you feel the president's impact might be felt here in michigan state that he won well ultimately i'm running for governor of michigan on issues that matter to the people here in the state and so it's a it is about education it's about taking the the the infrastructure from here it is to to hire with the with the road plan that's facing in right now it's about the marshall plan and connecting hundreds or thousands of people too high paying and and and good longterm jobs and careers i mean there are so many things that matter to the people of the state of michigan as such a basic and fundamental level that are my priorities so automatically the politics will be whatever the politics are going to be but what i bring to the table as a relentless focus and getting things done making things happen that matter the most to our people the the roads.
