"A deadly hit and run in Brockton. But right now it's one of three try. Look on the threes. The super retailers of New England all wheel drive traffic on the threes. You say good afternoon to Kevin Brennan. Good afternoon there. Laurie got some pretty big delays If we're heading off Cape right now, on Route six. Westbound jammed up from exit to over the road worked before exit one heading towards that sack of more braids. That's about a three mile backup for you. They're heading on Cape. Too bad born birds, Though you're jammed up for about a mile approaching the board, bridge itself remained slow over the bridge and into the rotary up on Route three. South bound. You got your slowdowns from rude A team down to Derby Street. You move better after that, and the expressway is looking pretty good so far in both directions out to the West, the Mass pike pretty much wide open between 1 28 and 4 95 Take about 15 minutes out and all burn, though 3 95 south pounds, jammed up for about a mile into cruise after Route 20 upon 4 95 South bound. You got a mile back up into the work zone here after River Street and behavioral and over in Bill Rick. Ongoing police activity on Harvard Road as multiple road shut down in that area between gray Street and and over road Route 1 29 So do expect delays in that area may want to avoid it. Kevin Brennan. W. B. C's traffic on the three's alright. Good advice again a SWAT team on the scene in Bill Rika right now, along with local and state police surrounding a home on Harvard Road reports of shots fired. This appears to be a standoff situation. We're monitoring that for you, and we'll bring you any new information as soon as it's available. And the forecast nearing 90. Some of you already there. You already said goodbye to it. Rear view mirror. You're 92 in places like the North Shore dampers that area Maldon just shy of 90 90 foreign Everett that's hot and again a triple digit when you combine the humidity.

"Is host of his fabulous podcast is called hidden season which of course must be about baseball I I would imagine John so you talked with that with bill Rick and the MLB network analyst and he's got a new book out called state of play the old school guide to new school baseball and John so he's talking about what these these new these these new new school kinds of analytics I think yeah he's taking a look at how players like him who played in the eighties and nineties and two more traditional look at how baseball is supposed to be played verses how some of the newer thinking has involved in the game where it's a lot more based on on the numbers and you have more people involved in baseball employed by baseball teams who have analytics background statistic backgrounds and kind of moving away from using scouts who've been watching players their whole careers and now looking more at trying to find little details inside the numbers tend to gain an advantage in but that's the trend baseball is moving towards right now there's a real battle in the game itself between that old school and the new school mentality there's a move away from wanting to use actual people behind home plate to call balls and strikes and turn it over more towards a a robot on because they're calling it an I assume talking to bill that he be against that I'm coming over to more and more thought is what I would like about the technology and what you like about technology apparently we can grate on powers pretty well with this technology so are you want the human part of the game then mark your judgment with that before I give in to the local on is I want the best ball striker powers the baseball hat the legislators a hundred on cars I want fifty often to be ball strike on bars they may alternate between second and home second home Sir can you know and their job is to hone in on the struggle to get better I wanted to talk about where you are on wins above replacement it's a statistic that's really designed to try and and put a number to a player's overall value what it where you add on war world went above replacement is the one that makes me scratch my head because I just think there's way too much going on in the game of baseball to assign one number and make it work so when the bulb replacement charge you define a player's value I like real numbers Washington nationals won the World Series last year they made an old school could be three four hitters from yesteryear when dawn led the league in our BR and yes I do like are the are you because someone's got to drive in one someone's got to score runs in order to win games and I believe it's a good stat teams are really looking at spin rate they're looking at launch angle we kinda got fooled into thinking Nick Nick but that it was going to break out last year in Philadelphia because of the high fastball spin rate and all of that and it didn't quite work out the some of the science behind it sounds like it makes a lot of sense but when you're talking about player evaluation you're talking about looking at those types of things you know how necessary are they for big league success bill tools and I like going to the real the real thing it's the ball spinning and you have a hard man raid on the fourth floor instead of an actual little opted out of life that have happened throughout history James Alvin Palmer throughout both live with he had light god gives them the same way so sandy Koufax now we can measure so with the tool it's part of the tool which strike one your yeah you can give me the best been right world of people's ball one any does both through this guy's gonna get hit so if we have a strike one we have a secondary pitch we control for storage now it's been really comes into play because you elevated for a full two strikes you blow somebody where pop and straight up but it's not the end all be all helpful we shouldn't covering the game of baseball so infield success rate can be directly tied to spend more okay putting way too much emphasis on it we destroyed one baseball still the best pitch it always will be it always has been in a separate with the best car right now in game one Jacob decorum in New York here to match rear end loan away from a right handed hitter for strike one a lot John still misses with us on first light this morning and he is talking with bill Rick in the MLB network analyst I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you about the Astors cheating scandal no players suspended by the league over this Lou now and AJ Hinch both out of a job what is your take on where things start as far as their legacy is concerned heading into twenty twenty eight double tolerances I don't think there's any doubt about that and your hands interviews will air on the network would produce you will we did to ourselves we open the door and I think everybody on the Houston Astros team your players completely inexplicably them have to understand that people will second guess their accomplishments and probably for good reason and the only way to really you know get rid of that yeah the commercial disturbing indoor he did I think that allowed me to baseball so we can assume moving forward nobody's doing anything else even with that then somebody got a letter opener the Florida would you strike good old pro ball the minute the next group Romer somebody's gonna wonder how do you do that and that's just something that they did they need to get out of there maybe say okay this happened we got carried away snowballed and we were having success whatever they do the better get up because you can still wonderful while so so Michael bill clearly is trying to he's definitely more old school than new school although I think you're finding that for most people in and and myself included here trying to find a mixture of these two things trying to blend the old way of looking at the game some of the statistics that you know the new school wants to do away with with that that they don't feel are as effective with some of the newer metrics that they feel are more effective there's a big balance right now between trying to trying to meet these two worlds together and that's you know that's that's what he's having a hard time coming together with and that's what I'm trying to figure out to what John somebody who really loves baseball where it where you come down on these new school analytics some of them are really good I mean what we're trying to do is find single numbers that can quantify how valuable a player is in trying to put a number on a player's offense in their defense and how they run the bases and it's just really hard to do and some of these numbers they come up with it you can't just look at the number and see how they got there there's all kinds of complicated numerical algorithms that they have to go through to get them and so one of the big points he makes in his book is if I can't tell how you got to that number I'm not using it and I can understand that turn your face just lights up when you talk about this you look like a kid on Christmas morning is great stuff me in spring training is here so this is the perfect time to be talking about it all right and I guess should be talking about on your famous world famous podcast hidden season it's called and it's available at that I guess podcasts are us or at all your podcast places exact all right Johnstone is Westwood One news manager thanks for being with us this morning anytime all right that's interesting but I still like the idea of those I hate the use expression, you you're out of here. There's no excuse. We all make mistakes. A once in a while it's still big a mistake to be forgiven. Yeah. I mean you always hope that maybe somebody makes a mistake they they are still college students, but I also think it is the atmosphere at a lot of universities. There's no balance you. You assume that everything is okay as long as it can a huge to whatever the, the party line is. I don't understand how someone would not have had the foresight to say, wait a second. Let's not go. Would you know? Real quick. My father was in the battle the balls. One Berlin fell he was in Berlin. Okay. And a veteran doesn't talk about it much by okay? But I said it would talk about I sit with a lot of prisons. He says, yes, except for the Brown shirts. To me now the Brown shirts, the s. Okay. He says was shot on site. Now I was twelve years old. I didn't know the whole story, but according to people, my father included, those people will mess Motors, and they did not deserve a trial. Okay. They will guilty by what they will wearing. I I understand. I do understand what you're saying, and I certainly understand what you dad said. But you know as well as I do that, that today would be considered inappropriate, no matter who. But, but certainly, it's sir. Circumstantial, you can understand what they had what they had gone through. But I would, I would, I would think quick to say that, that would be considered in, in the minds of many, you can't shoot somebody because of what they're wearing but anyway, no, but I know it. But it talks about the brutality of war in the brutality. Yeah, it brings everybody down your. Thanks, paul. Appreciate the call. Very much. Thank you so much. Talk to you soon. Paul, six one seven two five four ten thirty triple eight nine two nine ten thirty Phyllis Phyllis is in Pawtucket, Rhode Island Phyllis next on nightside gerrad ahead. Hi. Hi, Dan, and Nancy. I just had a thought. You know, says listen to the show driving home from work tonight. I isn't kind of interesting that the same people that are asking us to welcome and embrace, all of the aliens illegal that are coming into this country are the same people that are telling us that we should be anti semitic if you will or or against Jews, if you will, we'll some of the same folks as a matter of fact, they just had a special celebration in Harvard, a specific. Graduation for undocumented, it seems to me that, that is not the pity me of civilization of a similar simulation when you have separates graduation ceremonies. Although I'm sure however many, there are will participate in the main graduation ceremony on may thirtieth, but yeah, yeah, of course. Oxymoron, contradictory. And, and yet I it's very disturbing. One other quick point today on Facebook. Somebody posted something about the Anne Frank Martin Luther King, and Barbara Walters were all born in the same year. Think about that. They showed a picture of Anne, Frank and Barbara Walters just as experienced all those things like man going down the moon and internet and computers in marriage and children etcetera etcetera in years. A picture of a little girl fourteen years old. Never saw any of that, because one man decided that she should live. I find this appalling in the case of Martin Luther King, he never saw his fortieth birthday people. Don't don't remember that he was killed before he turned forty the article that I'm referring to is out of the crimson act on a dream host. I ever undocumented student. Graduation at Harvard. I don't see. What the purpose of that is? It's absolutely divisive. And it is. Inclusive. Well, it's, it's the intensity of what we have always prided our country on, which is a similar assimilation, simulation. Love you calls a CFO PawSox game. Okay. One of these days on their once in a while you find me trust me. But I know not as office, I'd like to I still work for a living. Phyllis. Thanks so much for your call. A great night. Nancy? Bye bye, Nancy this, this cartoon, one of the things that Chuck when I first saw was that? It's and you may disagree with me. I don't find it. Openly anti semitic. I find it insidious because it, it belittles and Frank and it downplays the holocaust. So it doesn't come out on its face, and you won't go look that's anti semitic. But when you actually look at it saying, oh, isn't the holocaust too bad. Because this girl didn't get a chance to go up into a babe. Oh my God. It's just it's an city. And that's what we have to be careful of is, is that type of, of sneaky, antisemitism? No absolutely next up Paul Paul going to get you him before the break at the bottom of the hour. Paul next on nightside gerrad ahead. Thanks. And I had a finally do a I call to you. Thank you. I'm sorry. The circumstances. People. We love people who listen, but we really look people who call, we'll go right ahead. This is ongoing issue in my heart. I feel that losing just too many of veterans that this whole in the. I can't pronounce it. I'm sorry. Is going by the wayside because we don't have people anymore. Who remember who remember? Yeah. Okay. Those soldiers of went into the camps. Yeah. They couldn't feed them. You know too much for them to feed. There's a particular movie that I mean, we can't teach any kids anymore, you know, catcher in the rye and Tom Sawyer and all that other stuff. But there's a particular movie that deals with, with the council in Germany, the Nazis sit down and come up with the protocol on how they're going to do stuff. Are you familiar with that movie at all? I. Yeah, I surely, when I think of Nazi Germany, I think of the of Schindler's List. I also think of the movie they was inglorious bastards the, the, the, the group of Tarantino, Quentin Tarantino movie. This is an older. Yeah. From the early sixties. Maybe I'm fifty two and so I grew up stuff, but like my grandfather seven destroyer in Atlantic, I have a, I don't wanna say sympathy, but, you know, I'm aware of you know what? All these veterans went for the my, my dad served to, but my dad's my dad served in World War Two, and he was not in the European Europe. He was in China Burma in India, but he impressed upon me as a young man, the importance of the state of Israel. And what happened to the Jewish people, and I had an opportunity in nineteen Eighty-six, as tellers reporter to report to visit Auschwitz and that, that had a tremendous impact on me in certain wasn't an affirmation of everything. My dad had told me and so I have some pretty strong feelings, although Paul, I'm not Jewish happened to be Roman Catholic. L. So I mean again, it's it is crossed us. It's got nothing to do with a Nancy is Catholic and I don't know what your background is in. It doesn't matter humanity should understand this can never. It is it is. It's somewhere over the last twenty to twenty five years. I mean as far as this goes daily Poon in hasty put in, I mean what type of pressure is up on the hissy pudding. But. Limerick somewhere in the last twenty twenty five years, not just Harvard. But this country as far as all gone. We, we, we, we've lost touch with a younger generation, whether it be I wanna say technology. Yeah. Well, I don't know what the I don't know what the answer is, I think, I think you've identified circumstance, and I think you've identified the circumstance in terms of trying to find out what caused that circumstance. I think there's a myriad of reasons but, but you certainly have come into pawn one, and that is the passing of the World War, Two generation who saw the horror of Nazi Germany up close and personal just as Paul from Bill Ricky's, dad did, Well, Paul is always appreciate your call very much. Come on back soon. You I want you to call this program. More often. Okay. Zulia sleep. But I heard this. Well. Had to call a truck driver overnight. So thank you, Paul very much drive carefully. We'll take a break six seven two five, four ten thirty triple eight nine two nine ten thirty. If you're just tuning in the Harvard lampoon, which, theoretically is a satirical, humorous publication at Harvard University has published in the last few days, a, an obscene depiction of an Frank, the young girl who died after having this sequestered herself in a closet, for, for many months. It was finally found out and and died in in Bergen Belsen, one of the concentration camps, and the Harvard, lampoon took a photograph of her and photo shopped at over a bikini bay, bikini, babe this the way to describe it, and the, the humor of this, according to the Harvard lampoon gone before time virtual aging technology shows as what an Frank would have looked. Like if she had died, if she hadn't died. And then, of course, it goes on to say that this is just one more reason why, why the holocaust sucked. I'll tell you that, that sucks. Right here is the Harvard lampoon. Nightside with Dan Rae. The news watch never stops. WBZ newsradio. Ten thirty. I'm meteorologist Baucus and Paul.
