"Four guys. four three guys. Yeah mostly deandre. Hopkins is not known six guy burning. Speed like marcus. Colston seized deandre hopkins. It the guys. The receivers that predominantly have long successful careers are bigger bodied guys who can get open and when contested catches. Yeah that's davante adams. That's deandre hopkins and i think that's going to long play help. Our kid justin jefferson. Yeah the the in the innate ability and natural gift at this stage of his career to get up there against malcolm butler get up there against whomever time. The jump bringing. Dan come down with it when they go to raking. That's a gift and not everybody has it. And it's not necessarily even trainable paul. It just feels like some guy's got it and just you know win the balls in the air. They got make the adjustments. And do all the things you talked about and some guys don't yeah and sometime and you're right because they can't be caught because you get people went when when it's hot and the pressure the shade pressure cooker is up there. They can't handle the heat. Yeah they over. Think it lack confidence. They just things. Don't go fluidly and adrian peterson's h. o. f. and we've said this before he's one of the two three four greatest backs in history of the nfl. It from eric. B enemy to daryl bevill bill maas grave the north turn. Everybody tried to teach him patients in the screen game and it just never worked. You know you couldn't turn it off. You just couldn't turn it off. Yeah let me to frame up. Davante adams is he the best receiver in the league. Let me let me ask this question. it's third down and ten. I don't care who the quarterback is you get to pick the receiver. Who's on the end of the past. That's coming ten yards away like that. Who do you want to be on the other side of that ball. Nope i'm still on the andre hopkins. I mean i just ever from his time in houston to what. He's now doing with tyler. Yeah i mean nobody. Has the ball stick to their hands or more consistently and in biggest of spots contact on them. Knowing he's gonna get hit. I think the andrea is the best receiver in the league but devante certainly gaining ground like the evolution of a guy who i think he went to fresno state or whatever but first couple years with with rogers. The problem was he was dropping everything you was screwing up. Yeah so badly but he is elevated himself ten times in class. And i think that is not just because they rogers throwing it to and we're seeing a growth of star star that they need by the way you see the tried factor and by the way happy breeders cup friday and saturday to those interested in the sassy vein of happy breeders cup day. Yeah the favored. Trifecta boxer would be deondraye. Hopkins davante adams. And julio jones is that the favor try. now julio's resurgence. I mean we've had the yeah. He's good yeah he's big. You runs. Unbelievable routes runs into zimmer occasionally and get shut down outside twenty twenty when the whole thing went pear-shaped moon but devante off. What mad producer. sad Excuse me julio he gets up and gets it. He's a dozen of berry talk boundary cover and sticky hands. So you think that's the favorite track to hear. How many give you one more named add to that. I got non avi. I've got to okay. Both you're probably gonna laugh at me. But i bet you're not say we're going to the same place me number one. What's this for you to other. This is still. I'm still trying to complete my ten yard pass so you so you ain't got julio and favorite right back no i do i. There's two names. I got a different name that could potentially with the trajectory surpass all of these number one de que metcalf. Yeah right that big box out. All i gotta do is just get it. Yeah area code of gant. Metcalf can't do it to an love him. I mean might as well change all of my guillotine leagues teams. Name names from notes to ks dog. You got him that much. he's on almost every one. I love him. But i can't do it. This early in the career. I i can. I'd love him on. my team. just hasn't been enough that's done. He was good last year not great. He's great this year. Now gins adams jones great great great great great great great. I'm gonna give you one other obvious that we have the same guy. You're the gassed So therefore you give it first. Marlin all allen. Robinson is one of the best heralded wide receivers languished with horrible quarterback one hundred grand. I tweeted this about a month ago. And got a bunch of psd's allen robinson is one of the five best wide receivers in the nfl. I'd say seven. Nobody knows because he g again languishing with these terrible quarterback He wins contested catches better than anybody in the nfl. The athletic jumping the speed. He everything he brings to the table a totally complete receiver. Yes and if he were playing and had played with russell wilson or aaron rodgers or matt ryan. We would be talking about him like we talk about davante adams and decay metcalf and julio jones allen robinson is he was my number one non obvious we got the trubisky terror- terrorism foles still seems. Okay and getting around the block nicely But look at allen robinson man i mean. This is even more credit for davante adams. Now they throw aaron jones. So you're safeties and linebackers. They got a peek at aaron jones because he's high in catch guy. Yeah outside of that. Lazard can be as good as everybody thinks he's going to be Valdes scantling is a one trick. Pony and that one trick was good last night. right there. tight ends or nondescript devante getting the coverage and still doing it You see adams. Game against the vikings really personifies his greatness. What he finished with fifty six yards the about that. I'm free. td's because you. When you go against zimmer you between the twenties for show because yang to get it. I mean if mike has identified. I'm taking you out of the game. It doesn't matter if it's harrison and josh mattel or or kylie long running around he's gonna take you out of the game and he took devante out of the game on chill. They got close to the end zone. That's a little claustrophobic and kids at a time. Not knowing where to be Stefan digs in adam. Thielen they need to be in the conversation now digs is you know. He's catching passes from From your wyoming kid. Oh yeah by the way. Think he leads the nfl in receptions in fact right he does lead the nfl. Reception and steph does not have a big time complement now. Downtown john brown. I know he came back. And he stunk in these these east practicing now and he's working allies this week by john brown's good but he's not as good as stealing. No not where where staff you know built up some equity there and steps doing a lot of this on his own for a run. First team with a quarterback hits like fifty five percent of the time digs is in the mix but so is stealing. And it's because of the route running that's because of what they do at the top of the route the yards after catch And position flexibility. You don't get davante adams slot too often. You never get deondraye hopkins in the slot. Julio jones is not a slot guy the lynn and digs xyz anywhere wherever. You need them. Can jet you a jet sweet. You're not gonna run. The jet sweep with hopkins. Or julio gialle with feeling and or digs well you could And the where that so handy for feeling digs tyreek hill. Who can run from all over the field as well you can. You can identify it. We've never been brought up. Tyree kills name this whole time. You can identify the cornerback. Matchup you want. Probably eighty percent of the team's pop. Play one quarterback on the left side of the field. Eight cornerback who will play your slot receiver and a particular cornerback. Who will be on the right side of the field. What feeling digs tyreek hill. That you do is lineup predominantly against the weakest one of those because you can run from any spot on the field and those are huge advantages for their game and by the way. Justin jefferson entering that conversation as well as somebody. They run them from the slot. They're outside right and he's entering that conversation to now Also you know. Mike evans is supremely talented wins. Contested catches is a beast all over the field of end zone. Boundary middle takes. Hit solving the problem for evans. Now evans. High end quasi elite. Would you agree with that. Quite tier two elite player. Well why. I think he's tier one is because now he's playing with tom. Brady and brady is rarely gonna force it into bad coverage So if your guillotine league or you're a bucks fan you're happy got tom brady and mike evans. But if the coverage rolls away of evans well then scotty miller cam -brate mean rate is going find. He he's the best in the history of the game at not being concerned with the name on the back of the jersey as much as he is about the coverage. Yeah so it's basically like scotty miller. Here's the deal you're on the team. You're playing your active. And if you get the fattest l. on the secondary i'm throwing to you. Even if evans is like on their best corner and single coverage you know and and you can prove it by mike evans. Game logs paul. He has four games with one or two catches. Yeah and their games. Defenses are going to take away. Mike evans fine right. It's going to be a scotty miller game. It's going to be a mickens game. It's gonna be a tyler johnson game. It's gonna be a game fine. We'll just go. Chris godwin game. We'll go somewhere else. "Episode. I'm Charlie Herman were deep into reporting and producing our next season of stories in fact even a little sneak preview at the end of this episode but like for everyone else the corona viruses or something. We're always thinking about and talking about even when we're looking for distraction. Say on TV. And what do we see order through the Burger King App and the delivery fees are on us so staying home doesn't just make us all safer. It makes you a couch potato. It's been fascinating to watch. How brands are adapting their messaging to try and connect with us as we shelter in place. And what's clear is there's kind of a Formula I you start with somber piano music then images of public spaces that are completely empty like estadio. Maybe next there's a video of a woman looking pensive. Putting her hand on a window as she stares out then cut to workers in uniforms looking deeply into the camera nodding their heads and then you hear keywords like people were people. People people people people for family family family family family family family and at a time reference now especially now especially now right now in these times of uncertainty. You get the gist. It's like one person wrote all the TV ads for every single company these clips by the way from a great youtube video called every cove. Nineteen commercial is exactly the same. Let's watch it together together together together together. Since this is a podcast about brands connections we make with them and since reporting on the krona viruses changing daily. We decided to do something a different in this episode so joining me to talk about brands and Cova Nineteen Tanya a senior reporter at business insider and Meredith Haggerty and senior editor at. Vox Dot Com and Meredith. When you look at how brands are responding to the pandemic. Who Do you think is doing a good job? And WHO's not well. That's a good question. I mean I'm always sort of loathe to ever say that a brand is doing a good job. That's just my general outlook on brands by I do. I mean everyone's doing the same job for the most part. They can really only give one message because it's the only message sort of palatable right now and that message is we still exist. We are companies and we are here and that sort of a picture of an economy. That's maybe still running. Which is as close as I'm going to get to saying that brands are doing a good job. Which is to simply to say that like on some level we do need to know that the economy is collapsing immediately. which it is but You know we're not closing Toyota dealerships yet. I guess is what's comforting tone? You just mentioned Toyota dealerships for example. I'm wondering are there certain brands that you think will succeed at this kind of messaging? And who risks falling on their face when they tell us that they're there for US and they're part of our family so I agree with America when she says that you know just by virtue of what we cover. We can't be like this brand is acing it but I do think there's some people that are doing it more creatively than others. So for instance Burger King decided that it would not let its outdoor billboard ads go to waste and instead encourage people to snap photos of them and use them to make their zoom backgrounds more colorful and that that is super creative may not result in sales of burgers. But it's definitely something that strikes a chord and then another set of brands that I think would also do well or at least register in consumers. Minds are those that are sorry to use a cliche but but walking the walk and that means not just advertising but also in how they treat their employees. So I was talking to the Chief Marketing Officer Tripoli the other day and this is the first example comes top of mind but they're offering people healthcare Leave and they are giving people bonuses and that means that they're not just sort of plastering. Ads reminding people that they're still there but are also being kind to their own employees actually taking concrete steps. Beyond just saying we're here for you and we support you exactly. I mean our consumers though being more discerning about who's actually really being genuine with their ad and who isn't absolutely I think this is something that's been building up for the past couple of years. Pepsi's Kendall Jenner ad was three years ago at this point but we still talk about it. Why because it was probably the most glaring example of how not to try to Co opt a movement. That's the one where she appeared to be co-opting. The Black Lives Matter Movement and walking up with Pepsi to a line of Police officers. Right exactly imagine trying to do that with cops trying to dismantle huge crowds in central park this weekend so meredith. What is the impact of seeing basically the same ad but from different companies over and over and hearing those same themes over and over again so I'll say As a as a lady who watches a lot of TV which is alternately. All I really think that the net effect of having all of these ads sort of remind us that this issue is happening in. That serious does weirdly by accident sort of amount to this public service. It sounds like what you're saying. Is that with a consistent message coming from businesses that they're almost taking on a role that we would expect elected officials to play whereby they're sending a consistent message of be safe. Stayed home or here for you. It's about family and friends. They're almost taking on a role that many people have been asking where we seeing that from our elected leaders. That's I totally agree. I so I. I wrote a story a couple weeks ago now which I think. Now in retrospect it seems clear that I was super depressed and despairing but also a sort of holds true that it's just like what's comforting if anything is comforting in this moment of like so little comfort and in this moment of seeing people storm the State House or you know flood the beaches the idea that companies which like would on in the short term perhaps benefit from us. Predicting this whole thing wasn't happening just continuing to go to the restaurants and by the products them taking on this message is yes again sort of a public service John. These days we hear a lot about a new normal or a pre corona virus world and then a post corona virus world. I'm wondering what do you think that that will look like for brands and advertising? I think another trend. That's definitely going to see. An acceleration is in housing This is also something that's been picking up over the last few years where a lot of brands are taking certain functions of their advertising machinery house. That's basically the idea that I'm accompanying. I don't need to go to an advertising agency. I can just do it myself. And the result of that means more job losses in the advertising industry. Yes exactly precisely that. So when you look at these situations. This requires a fast response. The coronavirus came and everyone out of nowhere and so they had to do it. Really fast so I was talking to Anheuser. Busch's global CMO and and he was talking about how when it happened in China. It was around the Chinese New Year time. And if they had waited to go back to their agencies that would have taken forever they had to really up and their messaging right away and they did that internally through their internal agency and so yes. What I'm trying to say is at agencies are in dire trouble so we're seeing a yet. Further decline of the Madman era yes the crescent of that decline. Meredith at some point. I imagine these brands are going to start saying we can't keep making these same ads over and over. Should we be watching for the next batch of ads that we see say as kind of like an Early Warning System? Kind of signalling. That maybe the economy's going to open or it's GonNa Close. I mean in a way are like the canary in the coal. Mine to tell us what's going to be happening with the economy. That'll be really interesting. I think it's going to be a little while before. We see anyone saying that. We're going to get back out there on a level from advertisers. Because it's just it's so much more risky position than saying that you should stay home but in terms of funny ads. I do think that's the wave that we're entering now of people trying to you know. Put a smile on people's faces and alleviate some of this just like grinding and crushing anxiety everyone's experiencing so I think we're there but I think we're a really long way out from a national advertising national companies saying it's time to come on down. I don't anticipate any come on down. Ads FOR BURGER KING. Anytime not not quite. But we'll see I could be wrong. I'm around a lot is a senior editor at the goods by VOX. "It's I think as crazy as it sounds. I think it's more important to have a bang-up a great season pile up the wins. Then because if you win your division, you you gotta win one playoff game to make it to the championship game and anything can make such different. It's almost there. Yeah. So so was now without him last year. We don't I don't think we have home field. Okay. You saw how important it was this year? I don't think he as bad. As was. I don't think he was the primary reason why we had a poor regular season record to me. He was not the primary reason that we had record. So what was well. We we we gave up we gave away. A lot of games. Bought a lot of games to me. Yeah. He wasn't great. Like he was last year. But I mean defensively and a lot of those losses. You could you could blame the defense for quite a few of those losses. The blame the offense or not scored enough points. Right. How many games did the defense winners this year? How many? Well, the game. Chicago game, which Nick was starting. But I mean, here's here's what I'll say, Steve great. He wasn't great in that game. And he wasn't great. He wasn't good in the saints game agreed now I mean, listen to what he was. No, he's bad in the saints game. If you can't see it the greatest bad he's set up at if he plays. Well, they may they win that game. But see, here's the thing. Right. You you can say the pri- if you say the primary reason it's tough to get a primary reason for why the eagles struggled for most of the year. I believe that it's tough to have a primary reason because the defense played well at times Carson played well at times the defense gave up points in big spots that cost games. So I mean, I look at the primary reason I have to say that there's a few reasons lack the I have about this the lack of fourth quarter play both by Carson Wentz. And by the defense. There was a couple of instances that have Carson played down the stretch that they could have won the game. There's also the first half of games with the offense just wasn't scoring points. Doug for that. Douglas, look brain dead in a lot of in a lot of those instances with the game plan and everything else. So I mean, listen, there's a lot of factors. You're right. I mean, it's it's it's not blaming the defense is the primary. Sorry. Yeah. I agree. I mean, listen if people wanna make comparisons to the thousand seventeen team to twenty eighteen team and think about what a big difference was. And you look on that side of the ball. The one thing I would say is that we didn't take the ball away. From teams the way we did last set the offense up for some ES course shorter field and that stuff matters. It does that it makes. For your offense. It's next level that you don't see that in every box. I really have to look at the the amount of takeaways. Some short fields to work with things of that nature. The thing with the eagles this year is they had to grind out every game. Right. They had to grind every game. And giants game is really the only way when you have to grind out every game. You gotta be perfect in the fourth quarter. And that's the one thing I put blame on both sides of the ball. But because Carson has the only two I really blame the other defense for is the titans in the in the Panthers the Panthers game. But Carson had the ball late in the Vikings game. He had the ball late in the Cowboys game in the had the ball late in the Tennessee game. Like like you had to erase. Areas. That's other other parts of your team didn't pick you up in. So that's that's why I will one hundred percent agree with you. When your quarterback. That's what you do. That's that's what quarterbacks do judge Judson. They race the bad play of the rest of the team by being the way they are in the fourth quarter. We can say how great Tom Brady is knowing he stuck Sunday. Now why because he had the game winning drive in the gronk what a great throw. Yup. You gotta be able to do that late. They won and they won late. No, you're right. And that's what he does Pat northeast. Silly has a former teammate ears that he that. He never liked. Hi, pal. Not for nothing. But if you think was worse than Bobby whoring. And I don't know what games you guys were watching to go through the Bobby wing days was one of demos agonizing times I've ever had in my entire life as an eagles fan, and he came in to replace tied Detmer another terrible quarterback. I just don't understand how any worse than Doug wasn't worse than no no way. High Detmer was better than ever was worse than dot coins. That was the good Denver. No, that's the other way. No, no, no tie. Actually, I I re- people love Thai for couple of weeks. Listen, Pat, do yourself a favor. I go back and Google Doug stats to Bobby wing stats to Ty Detmer stats, and you're you're gonna find that Bobby who put up a couple of games of some numbers on that one game. Relief. And then when he got mean to starter, he was an absolute train wreck. Now that was my year. That's the truth. I'm not saying that was my rookie year. Bobby hearings any good but could give me the game. The Doug Doug is a quarterback was good in. Yeah. The first one he got the winning, right? Cowboy game baby. Boy. Go ahead. He got a win. How many wins the body wing and kite that work out more than three and thirteen seasons? More than Doug. More than Doug. That's that's the answer. Bobby was godawful God off one of the worst quarterbacks. I've ever witnessed in my. Here's here's the thing. I appreciate your pet. Eagles players that fans never liked. I love Bobby for half a season. The thought of it. Right Doug's best statistical game. What was that all season like with Bob Yohane? Yes, we're excited coming into the night. Oh my goodness. The answer. I our year. He was the answer. I've ever remember going down to to a bunch. Remember getting tickets to a bunch of games? I'd have season tickets at the time. I got a bunch of stuff regular tickets. I'm out to get him and were available that year won't later on. They were sure, but yeah, he showed promise in that ninety seven year, but then ninety eight benched him by like what week five here's the problem. You had Jon Gruden running the offense in Ninety-seven. You had a you had Dana bible running the offense in ninety eight. And then you had Bill Maas grave the had to come in and try to clean it up. And he's now he's been fired by everyone in the NFL in. We had no idea. No clue. Yeah. Doug's best game was. Let me beat the bears. Okay. I remember that game twenty two sixteen to twenty eight in two touch. Oh, yeah. Hit Dietrich jails fun that. Yeah. Donovan run the option. Oh, yeah. Yup. I don't remember that. No. Yeah. He came in. This is hometown. He stood any started using him a little bit in some of those games. Yeah. He was using sparingly. Yeah. You're right. Donovan did he get a I swear that. He ran the ball. Now. You're right. You're right. Because I think maybe he just dish it off. What was his home? Yes. So I think they probably put him in there for series Dietrich gels two receptions for sixty nine yards TD. He's my favorite guy to name when we talk about the bad for the neighboring awards. I hated Dietrich jails tell you why. Because all ever saw him do was warm up on the sidelines. Right. He's one of those track dudes. He was a track track guy straight lines is almost seem doing practice. I do. I'll see you run routes out here anything unless you keeping loose on the sideline because you're a speed guy. Those track is never worked.

And you know, we talk a lot about remakes and how we don't like them here on the show a lot fuck remake so bear with me on this one December ninth nineteen Eighty-three. We saw the release of a new film from director Brian depalma as teamed with writer, Oliver Stone to create probably the greatest remake of all time this cinematic classic Scarface starring Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, f- Marie Abraham in the great Robert Loja Loja. If Murray Abraham SM just. In two thousand ten VHS VH one rated the movie as its number five in its list of one hundred greatest movies of all time as well. As Scarface and the character of Tony Montana. Appearing on several of FIS top movie lists of all time. Scarface features two hundred and seven uses of the F word, which is fought. In case, you don't know which was out to be about every one point two one seconds of the film at the time of its release. It was the movie that had the most F bombs in it. Roger Ebert rated it four out of four stars and his nineteen Eighty-three review. And then later added it to his greatest movies list of all time. The movie has given us many iconic pulp culture references such as the famous line say Hello to my little friend, and the infamous chainsaw scene that was actually based on a real life incident in the Miami drug scene. So you can't go wrong with that. That's Scarface the Brian depalma. Tony Montana, all time classic one of my favorite films of all time in my top. Ten. Andrea does all the barking. Yes. All of these billionaires. It's a convenient excuse when it's convenient to have an excuse. That's how convenient works. I quote. You lie. There's a chance of him getting in but not going to say he's a true hall of Famer. Said Jerry Rice about ally man and getting into the pro football hall of fame, but was this fair. Well, the surprising thing is that he said it at all because the way the pro football hall of fame works is they really see this this fraternity. And like it would be awkward now for Jay right to see Eli manning if he ever got like, I know a hall of Famer this sees it that way. And then I got some of them cars missiles physics on it. All right, man. Florida giants comes up with this. Manning is just a middle of the rope quarterback has always been middle of the road quarterback who happens to have two Super Bowl rings. His ranking QBR says you came in the league twentieth. Touchdown interception ratio twenty fifth yards per attempt. Twenty-six completion percentage twenty-ninth interceptions. Most thirty six more than any other player in that same time period. He just happened to be on teams. They got hot at the right time twice. He is not a hall of fame player. I have not talked to any NFL hall of famers. But lemme build the hypothetical case for ally. Manning's case, we'll just so people can understand what it is. It's the. Idea that this guy is a big game player. He played his best two games in the biggest two games of his career against the best teams of his generation. That's the idea so ally manning, I would agree that if this is like NBA, Paul of fame stuff. So if the criteria was Springfield instead of canton, I think Eli would be a hall of Famer it's just that the guy didn't make any All-Pro chiefs. What was the score in that first for bowl? It was giants by a little more than the teen to fourteen you're telling me about this great game that he had there. That's the real. But though throat that's the revisionism of the narrative though, that a win covers up everything he was a great in those postseasons. He was the quarterback of those teams we give the quarterback a disproportionate amount of credit wild up happened. It was those giants defenses got on a roll getting here with Ray wharf in those last night. They were great for months at a time. That was it. "Light Broncos primetime with David Bruton, the former Bronco's safety, let me just touch on a couple of points. Steve asked about a lot of people make a lot about the miss on Paxton Lynch, and I get it. They used a late first round pick on unpacked and Lynch try and find the next franchise quarterback, and it didn't work out. And that's a mistake. And there's no doubt. It was a mistake. And when you have a quarterback, you're going to stay with him a little bit longer when you draft in that high then you would probably a lot of other players just because player development can be different for different guys that said John Elway's missed onto quarterbacks since two thousand eleven Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch now he's drafted three others in the seventh round. I'm sorry. You don't draft quarterbacks in the seventh round. If you honestly believe they're going to be your franchise got act dice had. Shot. Give up kidding, right? Exactly. Thank you. Okay. I believe anything for about three seconds. So again, that's not a pass for John. He missed. There's no doubt. But but if I'm the Broncos and the Broncos have chosen to do it differently. I keep as long as I have a job over there. I keep swinging and trying to find the next great young quarterback bring up to things real quick. Yes. John Elway grew up playing baseball and football, right? Yes. So he struck out plenty. He understands. Yes, you're gonna strike out or get out seven out of every ten times if not more, but when you play at his level that's about right? How about in the NFL? He threw three hundred touchdowns. He also through two hundred twenty six picks, and he stood up on the podium you and I are both there at the combine in Indy. And he said, look I swung and missed and I'll continue to swing and miss. But he's taking swings. We could go franchise by franchise way. More franchises have missed on quarterbacks hit exactly every single franchise. Even the ones with multiple hall of famers. Yeah. It's just it's it's built into the business. Your notes on the head coaches. Okay. Bill Belichick your one six and ten to seven and nine year. Three seven and nine four eleven and five then five and eleven got fired but six and ten seventy nine seventy nine all in Cleveland. They gave them a chance to to keep trying to figure it out. How about Bill Walsh? He's turned out to be a pretty good coach in the pros two and fourteen six and ten in year to thirteen and three because they gave him that third year. And and wait a minute. What else who else did he have? I think he picked up a quarterback in the third round. Thank you. Notre dom. Yes. How about our Powell Mike Shanahan seven and nine in year one with the raiders one and three and then eight his first year in Denver with John Elway? The the point is you have to be given a little bit of a chance. How about Gary kubiak a guy that we love around here. Six and ten eight eight eight nine seven six and ten then he finally gets in the ten and six twelve and four, but in Houston, they let let grow with with the with the job, and how about Jon Gruden is making a hundred million dollars. Right. Eight eight eight then in year three in Oakland, twelve and four and I get eight. I was gonna say, that's that's that's the thing. I mean, these guys are winning Super Bowls in your right except for Barry Switzer, and that was actually your to at that is well, I do agree with that. Let's go to Kurla who is with us on a cell. Hello carla. Welcome to KOA. Hi. Thank you. Good evening either. You guys are great. So I just have a couple of things on back to the one that called and said that our fans are just being too harsh and were tearing down our our team. I just gotta speak for the fans and say, I don't feel like Denver tears down at all. We're just passionate and we care about our team. But my question is so with John Elway it seems like his answers lately. Two questions, really lack clarity. And I'm wondering what you guys think might be clouding his judgment is it the good old boy system that's alive and well. Possibly or could it be the bow talks? I don't know. Carla. Holy cow. Right. Talk about tearing Denno, Jerry Jones. Here's here's my take on it. There's not a lot that John can say in the middle of a season. Let's say he he knows right now what he wants to do. I mean, let's just say in his mind. And I don't know this to be the case. Let's let's say in his mind. Even if the Broncos run the table he wants to make a change. He's not going to announce that. Now, if you're gonna nounce it now that you just make the change now unless you have unless you have the person ready to go, and you're going to take someone from another job or they're unemployed correlates never happens. Never happened. Never never really they don't announce the interim or the replacement in the middle of wait until January, and then let me start fresh. So so Carla I I would say that there really isn't much else. He can say because either he knows what he wants to do and Vance won't be back or he's still open minded to some degree or he's leaning one way. But you can't come out and actually say. What you're thinking? And here's the other thing to you. And I brought up that maybe this roster isn't as good as Broncos fans would like it to be your those of us who cover the team think that it is John Elway evaluates the entire league. And everyone in college football in the NFL. And when that new alliance with American football, they'll watch every one of those games. I'm sure there's a realization not just on the quarterbacks like we talked about with the Masan Brock, and certainly the miss on Paxton Lynch, even more, but he's looking at this roster and probably knows this roster isn't as good as Pittsburgh's Jacksonville or go through in terms of top to bottom. Some of the other teams that you face and a realization that means that you're limiting your coach's ability to succeed to some degree because you are gonna rebuild mode to some to some mixed that and you don't want admit that publicly. They haven't partly because this franchise has been so darn good that they had back to back losing season since nineteen seventy two, but. Rick Lewis is sits in this chair talks about growing up alliance van and his dad being a diehard lions fan or the Browns fan that called earlier. Right. This is in some ways rich people problems Ferrari has identified. Well, you don't you still have a Ferrari, and that's what the Denver Broncos. Are. They are upper echelon of the NFL. But the Broncos aren't a Ferrari right now. And maybe that's the issue. Carla. Thank you for the call. We're going to Guinness squeeze in one more. And we get to Dave in Elizabeth. Hello, dave. Good evening, gentlemen. How are you doing? Great. Thanks. What's on your mind? Okay. So I think the roster's fairly decent. That's not a concern of mine. And I don't think we all know, John. I think he has an open mind. And I don't think the Vance Joseph has the problem either. And he struck out with Paxton east struck out, you know, in this quarterback position. But let's talk about case keenum hair too. I mean, we can't forget about the mistakes that he's making a guy who's been around the league. Other teams have. Someone else other than him. So instead of worrying about John advance. Let's talk about billion. You know? I mean, I mean Bill Maas, Greg. Yes, sir. You know, there's there's some questionable play calling and there's also questionable performance. On case. Keenum's part is detrimental. So to say, you know, Vance and the reason or Janis lost his mind. I don't think any of that has anything to do with it. I appreciate we appreciate the call. Dave. We're going to pick up and and respond to that. We are up against a break. We've got news coming and we will get some thoughts on because I think that's fair. I think case keenum does shoulder some of this for sure and the whole roster does I mean you win you lose as a team. I know platitude cliche all the rest, but there is some truth to that it is Lewis and Logan, Mike Reiss, Brandon krisztal in for the gang..

"Let's keep it going. Let's get some more. I second the motion a second the motion. Let's keep it going. So. Yeah. Bill must grave apparently seconds that effingham ocean. To me that it Bill must gravy is not happy about that. He knows that. He is being criticized quite a bit. And some people are looking more at him than Vance Joseph when it comes to the issues with the Denver Broncos, and he doesn't like it. Because Bill must grave is a precious genius. Who does not deserve to be second guessed? But the fact of the matter is. That this team routinely. Goes cute with things they like to get cute. They like to try and fool you into the big play instead of making the smart play. I said this. I believe I said this week. I certainly said it last week. Just because you have case keenum the formula that the Broncos have been trying to achieve or have achieved or trying to achieve. However, you want to look at it sense. Really? Peyton Manning started his downward trend. It hasn't changed this team wants to control the football. They want to limit turnovers, and they want to allow they're still very talented, not as talented, but still very talented defense. Hugh make plays. Down the stretch. And really other than the Monday night game against Mahomes has really been a game this season the jets that would be another one where you look at the defense really failing them every other time, I would say that more. Criticism would fall on the offense than the defense this season. The Broncos have been trying for years now to play that way. You could say it's conservative. You could say it's old school. You could say it's fashionable whatever you wanna call it. But that's the way to play because case keenum. Is better. In fact, case keenum is only good I can say it that way. Case keenum is only good when you establish the run when you go to the run first foremost and you run him off of play action. And the Broncos haven't done near enough of that. And that falls on Bill Maas grave. Vance Joseph maybe took more responsibility in the defense. He's not doing that with the offense. The offense is Bill must graves baby. Vance Joseph is letting him do what he wants. And that's a problem. That's the way it is. And when that's the case the Bill bus grave is the only person that you blame. So he could be you know, he say what he said. And he's Brian to be kind of funny. But also he's trying to be a jerk at the same time. That's fine. But you deserve all the criticism. You're getting and I understand that teams. That you have to throw the football in today's. Game. But there's a place for running the football the Rams before Jared Goff blossomed. It was Todd Gurley remembers Todd Gurley that led them. A lot of the eagles success with Nick foles was because of JJ and the contributions he made. So there's a place for running the football and that place. Most certainly is third down in short when you have a running back. That's averaging nearly six yards a carry. Two eight six zero zero four six your thoughts on Bill must graves comments. They are funny. Like, I would've chuckled had I been there. But he's being a jerk. That's the way he's doing. He's saying you guys aren't football coaches. You guys don't know anything. That's what he's saying. But he's saying in a more entertaining way, I suppose. Coming up next we shift from reality football to fantasy football. How will the trade of Damaris Thomas affect owners of to Shawn Watson of the Andre Hopkins. Emmanuel Sanders case keenum, there's so many fantasy implications to what the Broncos did at the trade deadline. If you guys are game. Bradley Chubb, named NFL defensive rookie of the month for October Meco Rantanen named one of the NHL three stars for the month, which guys more vital to his team's future. Success? Lot of you weighing in and want to continue that. Going here as well. I t's before the top of the hour about. A monumental day in a day that I thought would never calm. A now that it has. I Don I don't know what to do with my hands like Ricky, Bobby. So last night during the nuggets game, which they won by the way, Paul Millsap last-second tip in overtime, not the greatest effort from the nuggets. Certainly, but nice to see them turn it on when they needed to get a victory. They're they're off to their best start in about twenty years. And then they get to play the Cavs tonight, which is good. But during not during that game it was after that game. I watched the rare because of course, I took my boys out trick or treating. So I watched the rear of the game a late at night last night. But. The nuggets. As well. As many other NBA teams release there. What are these legacy? I think they're called legacy series jerseys. Another alternate jersey, the one that's kind of grabbed attention nationwide is the prince inspired jerseys that the wolves are going to aware, which they're pretty sick. I gotta tell you the pretty good. But the nuggets last night released. A form of the rainbow skyline Younis. You can go to my Twitter at gingerly tweets and see them for yourself for the nuggets Twitter. You can do the same thing. I think they panned the tweet. But it's if it matches pretty well with their current. Scheme at least the fonts and things like that. They match up pretty well. But there it is the rainbow skyline. It's a little bit faded. But it's it's there, and it is the first time in forever that the nuggets actually brought back the rainbow skyline. They've had a couple of not throwback nights where they've worn them. I think the out the night they honored, Alex English. I believe they wore them, but they never brought him back as part of the regular rotation. They tried they like the skyline logo but had blue or yellow background, and it just didn't work out. So they brought back the rainbow. Younis the rainbow skyline which is just a it makes my entire year. Like, I cannot get a hold of nuggets new skyline. Gear fast enough. I have people on Twitter asking me today, why the rainbow skyline. How that ever got started? Well. I understand that many of you were not around in the eighties and things like that win the nuggets were wearing these. So please allow me so the rainbow skyline it kind of works on two different levels. The idea here is to celebrate the vibrancy and the progress that the city was making at that time the city was booming at that time, so the colors of the rainbow represented, the vibrancy the, you know, how colorful colorful, Colorado in Denver was becoming you know, more of a diverse and. The bright city, I guess vibrant city because that's what they said. Vibrant city. And then the fact that the rainbow colors are in blocked, their blocks. It's almost like my kid put a LEGO bunch of Legos together by of different colors, those are intentional too. Because the brick there's supposed to be rainbow bricks and the bricks is supposed to represent the progress at the city was making they were building. You know taller buildings and more buildings in their growing and everything like that. So that's where the rainbow skyline came from. I just think it looks sweet. That's that. That's my deal with it. I mean, I it's great that it means something, but it's sweet more. Most importantly. Shifting over to the Denver Broncos trying to think of a funny way to transition. I can't. So we'll just go over to the Broncos Broncos as we have discussed much on this show, and many of you have vented your frustrations about the. The the seeming lack of balance that the that Bill bus grades play has had more passes than run way. More passes than runs and passing win running would be the smarter play at least in in our opinion, and that kind of came to a head on Sunday. Win. The Broncos had Philip Lindsey running all over the Kansas City Chiefs and devante Booker and yet a fourth two jet sweep which is technically run, but it's more of a gadget play. And then on another. No, I was on third down. And then another third down in short. You had the case keenum throwing behind the line of scrimmage to running back to try and take it up field. So. A Bill must grave has been the target of a wad of criticism. Among the media and fans of the Denver Broncos and pill bus grave. I guess. I don't know you listen for for yourself. I won't I won't put any idea in your head. I will just say that Bill must grave today up at valley was asked. If the Broncos should run the football more considering they're one of the top averaging teams per carry. Here's Bill Maas graves response to that idea..

And you almost had chance beat the last undefeated team in the league and. Just throw it away and go play another game and go get it done got to perform though, got to perform. I don't wanna come in here on a Friday and start talking about. All right. Who's going or who's gone? And you think about the Domino's fallen and things like that. We talked a little bit about this last night. What hap- look they're not going to do something just for the sake of doing something it has to be. There has to be a plan to it not going to get rid of VJ if they lose on Thursday. There's not who is going to be the coach of the team you not bring it somebody in from the outside because they won't have their own staff. And that just doesn't make any sense. Gary kubiak is not coming down from the office and coaching. It's etched. That's not gonna happen. So who? Who's going to be the CEO for the last? Nine games. Are you going to get rid of Joe woods? I mean, it's feels like it sounds like Vance Joseph is really trying to do him a solid, but I think Vance Joseph doing most of the defense work now. I really think he's probably calling most of the play the game plan could be a team effort and the whole thing. I want a lot more of the game calls. I don't have any proof of that. But. And Bill Maas scrape is not first of all he needs to focus on the offense. So. I don't know. Maybe turn it over to the quarterbacks coach. You know, the offensive if you're going to get rid of Bill must great. But I don't I don't know what that does for you. You could to get rid of these guys guys will play for the coaches and on and on. But it really comes down to the players not much. You could change. John Elway said it earlier this week. It's not much you can do. Now, you're in the season. You go with what you got. We'll see big carrying around Thursday break here at Henderson's going to join us in just a bit. And we'll talk a little baseball. Maybe just a tad more. I got a couple of things that I've got on the other side of the break that we will talk about. And then away we go. Oh, yeah. I've tried to put my fantasy team together. What? AM five stat three game losing streak. Now, I got a three game win streak. Now starting to get nervous. I'm starting to pay attention again, I'm thinking, hey, maybe I can get back into this thing. So we'll see talk about that. We.

"A day with a thousand dollar pay off on Xtra sports thirteen hundred. Despite with. Other television personalities around the city of Colorado Springs, say I do very much enjoy having Nick Rotschild from news channel thirteen. Join us on a Friday. I think it is. Inappropriate and in fun way to kick off the weekend. So with that. Let's welcome Nick onto the show. Nick, you know, what don't let them get you down. Don't let the haters get you down idea. What haters all the time? And you just can't let them get to you. Farnsworth hack. Okay. We all know he's a hack and when it comes to get your weekend started off, right? Who wants you rather go to a party with him? Sam farnsworth's or me. Question. It's me. Probably. Yeah. Yeah. Probably but SAM's SAM's like me, though, like SAM's adad. So we're naturally boring. We're not as cool as we once were at least I can speak for myself. I am not near as cool as I once was I'm going to go ahead and dispute the once was or once were part of that. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Let's keep it moving. You know, we gotta keep it moving. All right. Any chance in Haiti's that the Broncos beat the Rams on Sunday. Yeah. Ryan, it's called football little thing called football. If you're if you're placing a bet on the Broncos to win or cover against the Rams, it's for football us that really a for for the Broncos to win. I mean, we've seen weird stuff happened already in this young season. The bills beat the Vikings just one of the things coming to mind. So yeah, I mean a home game in what are sensibly will be frigid and disgusting temperatures against a Rams team. That is a little dinged up. And maybe overlooking the Broncos a little bit. Yeah. There's a chance, but you can't you can't look at any of the actual statistical stuff from this the first five or whatever games of the season and build any sort of like relevant statistical case for the Broncos to win other than football might happen. Just as long as I'm just glad he didn't drop the the the any given Sunday. Why that's that's my peppy any given Sunday anything. It's like now don't do that. All right. So let let's play. Let's play this thing out. So a win on Sunday saves Vance Joseph job true or false. I don't think there's anything that saves Vance Joseph job at at this point. I mean, whether it happens this week next week at the end of the year like this. It's just it's just not really working, and it's been pretty obvious. But at the same time, I kind of understand why John Elway wanted to give Vance a little time to try and figure things out. I mean, look, okay. So they lose to the jets on the road this weekend in what can only be described as embarrassing fashion. Vance Joseph promises changes after that game. It's now Friday afternoon, and there hasn't been a single change. We don't even know who's playing guard. And if that's the biggest change you're making when you're under fire if you will like, that's that's ridiculous. That's insane. That's that's almost inconsequential. So not only does he does. Vance Joseph just seemed like not really prepared or or ready to be a head coach just doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. It seems both in the team. And obviously. In its fan base. So I don't really think it matters. What happens this weekend? I think his job is. I mean, his days are numbered at valley. And I the biggest thing I think that tributes to that is is they got the wrong quarterback. Once again, I mean, are we not surprised or why are we surprised that case keenum is who case keenum has always been like I was saying that or banging this drum all the way leading up until the regular season started like everyone was real excited about case keenum quote in this offense. And he's been exactly who he was his entire career except for in Minnesota, and they're committed twenty plus million dollars twelve which is just insane. So you're strapped, and I think it's gonna cost fancy job. Yeah. People. I I love the the blogs in people coming out and saying did, you know that case keenum has an even touchdown to interception ratio outdoors. Yeah. Because the one good season he had he was indoors for half the this season. Yes, we are aware of this. What is most troubling know about case keenum is the fact that he was so good on play action yet Bill must grave. I one doesn't do play action with him. And to apparently believes that if you run the ball any later than thirteen minutes left in the second quarter. You are effectively forfeiting the game. Yeah. I don't know what's going on with mice grave. I've never really understood why he was sort of regarded as the offensive mastermind or savior for the Broncos when they went to them last year when they kicked Mike McCoy. Out the door and brought him us grave grave. We're less grave. It's like what I mean. What exactly inspires confidence there? I I've never seen it. And like this year's been a perfect testament as to why like especially at office coordinator like that just doesn't really move the needle for me. You have a running game that seems to work, and you don't really you don't really commit to that. You put your quarterback who is obviously limited in bad spots throughout the throughout the game that they've played and you're doing absolutely zero creative things to try and get playmakers like Philip Lindsey in Cortlandt Sutton the ball in like other than normal areas. Like you watch the eagles game last night. And you've got stuff going on on the sidelines and motions. And Carson Wentz is doing cartwheels in the backfield. And you're they're taking a non-existent running game in creating yards because of just misdirection and create a play calling the Broncos don't do that. Even though they have weapons, and it just it's it's just funny to me why people are so like. Enamored with Bill Maas grave, and I just don't get it. Nicaragua. Childcare radio news channel thirteen joining us here on drive time sports. So let's play the the more realistic game Broncos lose Sunday. Then they lose on Thursday is Vance Joseph the coach of the Denver Broncos by the next Sunday when they play Kansas City if they dropped the next two. I'm not one to ever fire a guy or or unemploy agai unless I have like direct control over the situation. But like come on man, you lose that Arizona come on. You're not you know, like, he's gone. He's gotta be gone. You lose Sunday. I kinda whatever the Rams you go to Aaron beat by. Josh rosen. A guy who you could've picked maybe the whole front office is maybe they just clean house. You know? Maybe it's just they they reset the entire franchise betrayed von Miller. John Elway get sent to go run a car dealership somewhere, case keenum place safety, and you just go on from there. I was going to spout. The statistic that no road team has won on Thursday night football. Thanks giants for being God awful. So now that that status out the window road team has won on Thursday night football. So I'll move on. I was talking about this earlier because Pat Riley called Tom tiptoe, M F and hung up on him because Tibbs called them up after they exchange medical information and asks for another player for Jimmy Butler by my question to you is Nick the longer this goes on Shinto nuggets just kinda slide in there. And be like, what do you want for Jimmy Butler slide into the? Yeah. A little bit like slide into tips as dams and be like, so Gary Harris, Michael porter, jR, what do you think? This question makes me wanna call you and call you and I'm effort, but what are we doing here? I love like don't get me wrong. I love the drama. And the ridiculousness of this whole story like calling Rachel Nichols the day before that insane Jimmy Butler experts s explicit fueled practice. So that she's on hand free interview all like high school nonsense on tape. Like, I love it. Again. I'm here for it. But what are we doing with the nuggets getting involved? Like, there's no no chance that the timber are going to trade him to a conference like opponent like the nuggets. There's no way that the nuggets would get rid of like valuable resources to get a one year rental of a disgruntled Jimmy Butler who will not want to be in Denver. And it's like even if you end up with Jimmy Butler on this roster. He's your second best player, and you basically are the Minnesota Timberwolves. So your grand prize is getting swept by the warriors in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. So like what even rationally if you climb down this rabbit hole. It makes zero sense and the first step of the rabbit hole. Is that it's not happening? So like, what are we doing here? You m effort. I'm doing my job, man. I don't I don't have a minute and thirty seconds to fill like you do on a nightly basis. I got three hours, ma'am. I supposed to do. I work in here, man. I'm working here. All right. Where are you? Where are you headed tonight for football of the high school variety? I'm actually sitting in the parking lot of CA foster stadium. If you're familiar, yes. So Mesa ridge. Yeah. Mesa ridge. Mine creek tonight. So interesting thing about this game is pine creek hasn't played a football game in twenty one days. Not sure that really affects the outcome. Or the eagles is just kind of a weird note that they played a game against Pablo west it had a bye week their gaming at Cheyenne Mountain was forfeited because the Indians are having trouble drawing kids to play. And then now you've got another week in they're playing this product. So twenty one days off in the middle of your season. I guess we'll see if it affects them I expected not to but kinda strange. We'll find out if it does affect the almighty eagles when you tune in to Nick on channel thirteen this evening, Nick, always appreciate the time, bud. Even though you called me an effort. Hey, listen, man. That's that's tame compared to what I call you off air. All right. Am I right? All right, Nick, Nick, Rotschild, cardio news channel thirteen joining us here on drive time sports. All right. Sam farnsworth's wake up coming up next. Our athlete of the week. Kyle pope will join us live in studio. He is really difficult for opposing teams to tackle. "I mean, L A might I don't know. But I don't think the Broncos the Broncos want to run the ball. They've said that they got away from it. They never really did last week and Bill Maas grave said yesterday. Look, I I got a call a better game. I would expect that the Broncos would try and run the ball and be a little more committed to it. I would imagine if the weather not a factor because you've alluded to these guys are pros. But I think the altitude would so if you're controlling the ground game and you're keeping the defense on the field. You tire them out and make them suck a little win. I would think so and and you shorten the game a little bit. I mean, you you hopefully wear them down by the fourth quarter a little bit. And if the Rams offense is on the bench. That's a real good place for for it to be the best defense keeping him off the field. Seriously, thirty four and a half points a game. I mean, they're gonna score. They're gonna score just because they're talented for. Is many issues as the Broncos defense has had. I don't think it's fair to expect it the Rams aren't you know, are going to come in here and score ten points. Right. Exactly. I mean, they're they're they're they're just that talented. Right. What about the Wade Phillips factor? Yeah. That's an interesting one, isn't it as sill? So beloved doesn't like wait. I mean on Twitter. He's just he's a crackup for sure. But as a football coach, I mean, as as many people have said, he's football royalty for sure and head coach of the Broncos. Vance Joseph joining us now on the live line sponsor by Ameristar casino resort spa. Blackhawks step up your game. Good morning. Coach good morning. How are you doing very well? So we were talking to beforehand, you know, that the best defense is keeping the Rams offense off the field. So I imagine one of the things you're looking at is controlling the ball. Absolutely. You know, we have to obviously school points. But also control the ball to help our defense plus maps, but but it's gonna come down to our defense playing good football. You know, and we understand that. Yeah. Speaking of defense, here comes Wade Phillips. Now, you know what he can do? But you're also good friends with him. Aren't you? I am you know, I work with wait a long time and eastern, you know, he's he's a very good friend of mine, and I've learned a lot of football from weight Phillips, and when I watch his defenses. It's it's definitely a waste Phillips defense. He had great players but his scheme and how he calls the game on Sunday. Make some really good coach. Obviously a lot of frustrations coming out of the jets game. Do you feel like the team was able to channel those in a good week of preparation? And in a productive way that will hopefully lead to a different result on Sunday. I do you know, we had a we had a good work day on Wednesday and Thursday guys came into Wednesday. And obviously they were still upset from the game on Sunday. You know, we played so no one was pleased about that. Everyone was frustrated, but they still came to work in put in a good day for us on Wednesday Thursday came in. They were a little bit better as forced era personality show. We got back to. Added fun working and enjoying playing football again. And I'm open to date. It gets better. You want the week as a coach to kind of build, you know? So you want to win to be okay. There's it'd be better in Friday to be perfect. So we've got Friday today. And I'm hoping that it's a perfect fourths pick up on that coach the attitude. The team is good. They're still feeling positive realizing. Honestly, there's work to do. But they've got a lot of things ahead of them. Absolutely. It's it's early in the season. We're in we're in week six and a great opponent coming in. So we're excited to play at home. It's going to be a little bit little bit cold here. So we're excited about that. And. Our our our fan base was so good at home, you know, playing this offense of the Rams fans are going to be so important to make a lot of noise. So we can operate on defense. Yeah. And you mentioned that it's going to be called probably that out of the twenties. Maybe snow on the ground or snowed. Overnight. Is that a big factor? Here is hey, it's just part of football. Football. But I also think if you work at like we did on Wednesday. It can be cleared banished for you. But again, you know, we have to go out there and play good football. And a weather won't be a factor on both sides. It's the same for both teams. So we'll see how that affects the game. All right. Help us out a little coach you've talked about changes. I mean, you got give us a preview. Right. I mean, what what what's expected here? What could people expect? We'll tell you what you know. Hopefully, a better brand of football. You know, when you don't win games, you always make changes guys. I mean, you can't you can't go into the next weekend. You know, not making changes. So I mean, you guys probably won't see him right away. But hopefully, the results Pixar changes coach we got your back and good luck on Sunday. You all right. Head coach Vance Joseph at the Denver Broncos are coverage starting at eight in the morning with breakfast with the Broncos and then kick off at two or five here on KOA NewsRadio. "Here's Brad Allen. And it is it. One the golf bother to defer. Assume you're seeing. Bill. All right. So we're going to get to see Blake Bortles and the Jaguars out here. I we always focused so much sometimes on the Jaguar d v the cancer the offense. It could be the other side of the law that defined game while last week Dede Westbrook. The wide receiver for Jacksonville had his career game night catches over one hundred twenty yards really the jets could cover them all day long. But as I look out here. Into the sea of red in yellow red and gold here. It is coming down is hard as it can come down. Chris, and it has periodically done that throughout the night it throughout the morning. Well, it will just come down in sheets, and then kind of let up a little bit. Get that extreme weather out here all the time to Kansas City. You don't want to Baldinger brothers the three that played in the NFL your brother rich played. My brother doubt played here too. Yeah. Still out here. Richard still here. Played on above Gary Plato, some great defense with bookie bell, Bill, Maas, art, still all those names are up in the rafters here Arrowhead. Arrowhead stadium prides itself on being one of the loudest in the NFL. They will kick it off the chiefs in the red red helmets red jerseys white pants going to left to right, gusty wind. Harrison Butler is the kicker. He swings. The right leg. It sends a deep fried. That'll be caught about a yard deep and they're going to run a fake reverse keep running up the right? Get out to the twenty. Jay, Don, Mickens tackled bear as a return out to the twenty yard line tilt. I intend from their own twenty for the Jaguar offense wells, norwell Linder, the center can't impart del across the line left to right. We'll see keeling coal Dante Moncrieff your wide receivers. Dede westbrook. Who got his first start the NFL last week? Led to t- with nine catches thirty yards. His first career hunt regard game yelled behind Bohannon, the fullback at an eye formation on first down, they give yelled it. Nice patient. Running gets through the line gets across the twenty five and out to the twenty six yard line. Eric Murray, the safety came up to make the stop after six yard gain. Eric berry is out. So Murray gets the start with Ron Parker Nelson and fuller. Arctic owners upfront Bailey William to Jones linebackers, Houston, Hitchens, Ragland and Ford. Second out at four coming up here for the Jaguars of the black helmets and pants with white jerseys. Right to left PJ yelled at communicating with Bortles under center. Takes the snap. Gives the yelled at dancing around the right? Look to turn the corner on Ford wrestles down for no gain. Gimme yard out the twenty seven and a third and three coming up here while Kansas City is a true three four defense. So they're Outside Linebackers Justin Houston four and they've got to be big today. They've got a rattle lake Bortles. And then when Tice Yeltsin tries to go wide like he just did they can't let him turn to corner. They've got to set the edge. And they got to control the Tice yelled ended of Alabama twenty five years old second round pick. Back in two thousand fifteen fourth year the Jaguars. Preflight of the right to receivers to the live on the left. Split backs between Bortles out of the takes the snap. Third. Short looking around throws over the middle. It's quantum I down. It's Keelan coal out across the thirty to the thirty three. And the first first down of the game. Is that will goes for.

"As always got to ask you first about the weather. Sounds like it's going to be nicer there than it is in Denver today, which is a little bit strange, Mike. Yeah. We we woke up this morning, and it was really foggy overcast drizzly. But now that fog is starting to burn off. And they're expecting a pretty nice day here today. It's a little bit, humid. But actually really really nice for early October. We're we're pretty happy with it. We hear you guys might get rain today, and maybe some snow tonight, maybe a little bit. Yeah. And it should be. Be in the fifties. It's going to be I think a little bit chilly certainly for baseball game later on. But we've got football on our minds. Let's talk about who's hot. While that Broncos running game is coming around in Royce Freeman Philip Lindsey, those two guys in particular. But Royce Freeman doing a nice job kind of being a spark plug in that running game. Isn't he? Yeah. Broncos running back Royce Freeman the third round pick from Oregon has been impressive since pre season. This is a guy who was a prolific running back in college. Some people said that he had a lot of miles on them because he had a ton of yards in college five thousand six hundred twenty one and a sixty rushing touchdowns and keep in mind in high school, Mike he ran for over seventy six hundred yards scored one hundred and eleven touchdowns. So he definitely knows how to run the football. He does have a lot of miles on people thought. Well, maybe he's taken too much punishment. But so far what we've seen is. He's the one given out the punishment. This guy at six feet tall. Two hundred thirty eight pounds has looked really good for the Broncos, and he puts his foot in the ground and cuts as well. As anybody we've seen here this season. And not only that we've watched tacklers just bounce off of them. He's averaging five yards a carry three touchdowns. And this week Bill must grave said it's time to take the training wheels off and start giving him more carries. He said the same thing about Philip Lindsay as well. There's two headed monster has been the talk of the National Football League. So far in two thousand. Thousand eighteen and we should see a lot more voice Freeman here today. That's what I was gonna ask you. I mean, Bill Maas grave won't give away trade secrets, obviously. But I think from that comment this week that you alluded to we can expect a heavier dose of the run game. Don't you think I think so I think this team was built to run the football in play tough defense, and they they seem to get away from that a little bit especially last week in Kansas City. It was a little frustrating. When the Broncos really needed to to to move the football there in the fourth quarter. They had a hard time doing it. So they're going to focus on running the football here today and play a clean game. You the Broncos just kids seem to to be turning the ball over on defense and they're turning it over on offense to. So we know when the Broncos win the turnover battle they win football games. Most teams do and so today, we gotta get case keenum going to today a Mike that's been a another bit of a concern. He has three touchdown. Passes all year all of them in week one. And so that's a long streak to go without throwing touchdown passes. You are reading my mind, my friend because my next question to you is going to be what do they have to do to get him going a little bit? Well keenum has been better throwing the football when he's scrambling. When he's out of the pocket for some reason in the pocket. He seems to struggle actually, Dave Logan. And I were talking about that off the air here just about an hour ago. And I'm not sure why you know, he's not not very tall. You know, he's he's maybe six feet tall. And maybe that's a problem for him in the pocket seeing over the offensive and defensive line. And then once he breaks free. That's one case keenum is at his best. And that's when he seems to see the field a whole lot better. But they certainly want to get him going throwing in the pocket. They need to protect them. You know, he seems to be running for his life just about every game. Yeah. No doubt. Speaking of quarterbacks. We flip it to not hot very very good debut in week one for Sam darnold of the jets the what third overall pick. But since then slim, Pickens what's going on there. Yes. Sam darnold. You know? The jets traded up in the draft to take him over all. Paul and in his first game. As you mentioned his his first pass was picked off taken back for a touchdown against the lions impressively. He bounced back and the jets won the game. He became the darling of the league for about a week. Everybody was talking about him. And then he started to fall back down to earth very quickly. He's connecting on just fifty seven percent of his passes. He has four touchdowns five interceptions. But in his last three games, he's got four interceptions. And is the lowest rated quarterback in the NFL on top of that. He's been sacked ten times. He's going through the typical growing pains that you'll see a rookie quarterback. Go through in the Broncos need to take advantage of that put a pass rush on him. Confused him in their past coverages, and it should be a good day for them. Yeah. I'm putting it solely on your shoulders to get a win today for the Broncos. You know, what if I think I can take that? You know, I think my shoulders are big enough. Okay. Put it on my back. Put it on your back. Rick. Thank you. My gotcha. There you go, and you got all Broncos country to just just say, hey, but no pressure. I'm representing their country here at the Meadowlands put it on my back. We will talk next week. So a better be a win Rick. All right. Sounds good. There. He goes. Thank you color analyst. Rick Lewis live at MetLife stadium. In New Jersey is the.

"Your nearest village in and take advantage of and enjoy that at embrace KOA on Twitter is how you can reach me as well. Some good comments on Twitter, but we had back to the village in react hotline and Bill from Los Angeles solo Bill and Mike always a pleasure. Thanks for taking my call run for shift. Yeah. And always good to hear from you, sir. Hey, thank you, like three points has always been a question. First off congrat- to. Lindsay for. I mean back to back one hundred. That's awesome. Undrafted great job by hand now by three points. And the question, I point case keenum second point point defense, third point, gut check. And then my question birthplace, Kate, case keenum. I don't know if it's just me or not. But it seems like. He's one of those kinda guys reminds me of Trevor simian in the first half. And then case came in the second half. It just comes out of slow his kind of. I know he's running the system. I always wearing the players. I get that. That's that's totally understandable. But it just seems like something quick. Come late in the game. I mean last year with Minnesota on that pass the beat New Orleans playoff. And then today just has that dry from the ten yard line down. It just seems that that he kicks into gear. I'm just glad he did second point defense. Yeah. There's a lot of concerns in defense. I'll von Miller is bond note. I mean, the guy's amazing. But where was Bradley Chubb today? Where was the linebackers seemed like the safeties in some of the corners were out of sync? I'll leave in guy. I mean, how do you leave Cooper wide open nine catches out of nine attempts? That's just ridiculous ridiculously crazy. I don't understand. I know they got to tighten it up. And hopefully, they'll they'll figure that out going into Baltimore next week. My third point being Doug check that takes you back to the fourth quarter or case keenum the offense the running game that that incredible run by Lindsey. I think it was fifty five yards or fifty guards or something down the sideline. Just I know that was earlier on just the entire. Fourth quarter drive that got him down winning field goal was just spectacular. Where was that all day? But thank goodness that showed up in the fourth quarter. And now my question. Let me ask you. After the first two weeks of the season. Am I gonna need to go on my nearest best buy or WalMart? Something get a defibrillator because. Export yet. Yes. Get get the D F, Avs. I tell you what with this team. You never know. And I I mean, it makes it fun to watch. There's no doubt about it. But I think the Broncos are good enough to win games. And at times, they have some lapses which is going to allow them to maybe you don't lose some games that that they otherwise should win. And I don't know that they're an elite team at this point. I'm not going to go that far, man. I look at what Kansas City did authencity today and say the Broncos aren't in that place. Now, you don't have to be in that place to have a great team because I think the Kansas City defense is borderline horrendous. But yes, get the defibrillator Bill. Thank you for the call. Great to hear from you. Good points. I wanna point out a tweet from James real quick. And I any pointed out a mistake I made and I appreciate it. I did say that the Sutton touchdown. Catch was overturned. But. The officials called it out originally putting the burden on replay to show he was in. And I think that's right now. Is that right? The Sutton touchdown catch. I'm totally getting confused. How was it ruled originally do you remember it was ruled a catch? So it was overturned by instant replay. I was correct. So James, then I will correct you it was ruled a catch and it was overturned by replay. That's what I thought. But I wanted to make sure I had that right now. I ended up confusing myself. It happens it happens to bill's point let me just say this about Amari Cooper. I think he has largely underachieved in the NFL. He started off his career house afire as an elite type of receiver production. He's tailed off not coincidentally in my mind with the tailing off of the raiders off. Pence. Especially after Bill Maas grave left. And so. He he's a really good talent in my opinion that that has not maybe lived up to to what he had done earlier in his career. But at times the Broncos defensively just make it look like the other team is having a real easy time. And even crystal tweeted that last week when the offense was producing the defense gave up some big place to Seattle and big plays in the running game to again as Luke cetera is breaking news. I'm not chicken little I can't confirm but. I'm a little bit concerned. I'm not ashamed to be a little concerned down because I I like the personnel in general. And I think it will be a defense that does get better. And if it doesn't then we'll have the conversation as to why not. So I'm just bringing up look when you win twenty two nineteen and don't lead in the game until six seconds are left at home against a raiders team. That has not shown itself to be very good. So far. I mean, there's not enough sample size to say consistently this year. But it's not a great team by all accounts. Early in this year or in the last year, or so they changed their coach for reason. You didn't play great. You found a way to win. And that's the bottom line. But we can talk about how they played. And even when the Broncos got to win. Or in a loss perhaps but play well in certain areas were certainly the first in line to point out, some of those positives. And there were plenty check out my Twitter timeline, Bryce, Senate tweeted, a great video of a clean pocket on an eight-man rush. Really good offensive line lost Jared Vel deer. And we still saw the Broncos. Do some good things in the running game. Very encouraged by the running game through the first two weeks. Three zero three seven one three eighty five. Eighty five toll free eight five five seven one three eighty five. Eighty five at 'em rice KOA on Twitter. Broncos beat the raiders twenty two nineteen more to come in a moment on the KOA Broncos radio network. Bad.
