"Bill's Life, Deep Task Romantic lab with you until three o'clock. Thanks for joining us here again today a lot going on in the National Football League some good some bad. Some A little bit informative. There's a lot of cool stuff that's coming out around the league. Now. Teams were starting to show kind of what's going on inside the building or what's going to go on inside the building. When their players come back. The Broncos put out this nice video about what a player is going to go through, and I'll tell you, Matty after seeing what some of the teams are doing. To make you give social distancing and testing and All of the stuff that needs to be done to try and keep these players healthy. I kind of get a little optimistic that it might work. Given the fact they're going to test these guys so often in the early going, Yeah. I mean, the safest place for these players is going to be at the facility with everything they have put in place. Ah, to follow all these protocols testing social distancing. The way that they are in meeting rooms the way that they line up in the cafeteria to get food the way that food is delivered to them. I mean, it is thought out and So precise on every corner of the building that you're in that this is going to be a very safe environment. The thing that Is unknown is what happens outside of the training facility. I mean, you can't monitor these guys when they go home or when they choose to. Have social gatherings or activities or whatever, because there is no bubble scenario. So it's really up to the trust that you have with these players to stay safe outside of the practice facility, and it gave me some hope, because here's the thing I get when you walk into the building. I mean, nobody's ever been through this before. This is all new dog. Even even old timers like me. You've never been through anything like there's a pandemic. I mean, since the Spanish flu in the early 19 hundreds, we nobody. Nobody knows what's gonna happen so When these young players in these any veteran players when guys go through that building through that door in the building, and they walk up and they get tested, and then they got to put a mask on and you've got to do this and that and they got it. They walked him through traffic patterns and they stand apart. There's constant reminders that they're on, you know, there are kind of on edge about social distancing their lockers are separated apart. Showers are separated apart. They've got every other locker cordoned off even the meeting rooms or socially distanced. It's really gonna be a GN atmosphere that's going to be really seriously committed to social distancing and No infectious disease control. So what I think is gonna happen is and I know this would've I really felt this come over me when I watched the video that we saw The players are going to be on it, and they're going to relay that to the people that they live with their their support network at home, their wives, their their families, their kids, their moms or dads, Brothers sisters, whoever is living in the home with them during the season to help him get through the season and all the guys have him. You rarely see guys living by themselves anymore because you just You just need somebody to help you when you're not at home. They're going to relay that to their support system, and it's going to get passed down pretty quick. How serious this has got to be taken. So when they come home, those people that are living there got to be on it as well. And I think that's going to be a message is going to get out pretty quickly with With the seriousness that you get when you walk into the door the building for work every day until there's a vaccine that's safe and that everybody can have access to its obvious that If we want to season toe happen, you have to be safe outside of the safest environment, which is the practice facility. So I am very confident in the type of players that Sean McDermott Brandon being put on this team. There's a certain type of DNA in a certain type of culture these guys fit into and a big aspect of that is being responsible. And I believe that all of them have the capability to follow these protocols, not only just in the practice facility, but in the comfort of their own homes. I thought the video was, if anybody hasn't seen it. I'm sure the bills are going to put out something similar to within the next week or so assault. This is being hashed out as to what we can shoot where we're allowed things like that. But the Denver Broncos released this video on social media yesterday. I basically followed a player through what would be a day at the facility from parking to leaving the facility and kind of all the measures that they have to go through, and we all know Pretty much everything that's gonna happen, But it was very interesting to see it visually and see how all of this is going to be played out. And, Yeah, I agree with you. It was it was reassuring, and it was Great to see it Visual and be like, okay? Yeah, This makes sense. Another thing that I took out of that was there going to be wearing contact tracers so as they enter the facility They will put on the lanyard. Ah, and they have this little device that's like the size of an air pods case, and it will trace who you come into contact with. So if someone happens to test positive They will be able to see who that person came into contact with. So I think that's another smart way to make sure you're keeping hold of all that and have all that data in case something happens. There's also a ton of technology. That's pretty interesting to find out about him in the video we saw with the Denver Broncos facility. I assume that the Buffalo bills I have something similar. They've got thermal cameras outside and fire the guys file. You know, every walk six. Yeah, every walk six feet apart anyway, so each guy that passes By this thermal camera is going to get his temperature taken, and if they're outside the norms They get pulled out of line and evaluated and get tested, you know, or get their temperature route taken again or, you know, they get checked for symptoms. But they're getting pulled right out of line saying, Hey, you're there's something up with you. Pretty interesting stuff. They're getting their monitoring these guys minute by minute throughout the day, not only with where they're standing in proximity to each other. I'm sure a bunch of them will have whooped bands on Where they will be able to know if you're not familiar with what band or giving exams. It's a W H 00 p It's like a watch. And it has the ability to monitor your vital signs Moment by moment and send it to your phone or to a data base, which, um Which is usually in your phone for guys, you know for regular people like us, but what it does, and it happened to be used by the guys in the PGA Tour. And these guys were there's a cove ID. Part of the Software that uses this thing. That keeps track of their Symptoms. Five guys on the PGA Tour were alerted by their hoop and before they showed any Any symptoms at all, and all five tested positive for So this band was way ahead of the curve in its ability to ascertain whether these people had symptoms or not, And they got an alert on their phone. They went and got tested, certainly, and they were positive. So to get out ahead of it like that, and that's we have that on last week. The NFLPA is actually an investor in that company. So you would think That that would be something that a lot of players have access to, and not for nothing. I was playing golf. A guy had it on next to me when we're socially distancing, and he gave me the run down about it. Is an amazing product. And for that it's pretty pretty low prices, actually, because the band in the end the APP It's all free. They gotta pay monthly. You've got scriptures when? Yes, Like the 19 bucks a month. You gotta pay to have this thing on your wrist. I'll tell you what, though. If you're a person that works out on your own, you want to keep track your fitness and you're one of those kind of You know, needy, maybe type people. This thing gives you moment By moment. It tells you whether you're working on fitness or not, whether you're straight stress level your recovery level. Your temperature.

"Like to vote on the totem pole you can do that right now at one bills life if you'd like to send in a tweet you can do that one goes live we may read it on the show is it an Oliver forty four percent of you say yeah I think a lot of I agree with Kevin Seaver to be SBN at Oliver's going to make the biggest leap forward next season would be the running back Devon single Terry a third of you thirty three percent say Devon single Terry would make a big leap forward would be tight end Dawson Max twenty one percent of you say he's the one the rookie from this year who's got the gonna make the biggest jump forward next year's a somebody else were missing give us a call eight oh three oh five fifty toll free one eight eight eight five fifty two five fifty is it Cody forties it was John Joseph who could wind up filling in for Lorenzo Alexanders Tommy Sweeney have a chance to jump forward anybody any rookie let's hear from you it three oh five fifty toll free one eight eight eight five fifty two of I need yeah I was gonna say you wanna think about them he wanted to spit out of the pain I think it's easiest to to pick the I don't jam I don't get I know we got we got water whenever it's easy to I'm I'm not a betting guy and I don't gamble really at all but if I was I always pick the favor even without a twenty I got twenty dollars not enough I have when I do I pick a favorite and I think it's Devon single Terry he's gonna have the ball in his hands people in a look at him in it and theoretically he's gonna get sixteen games not twelve games statistically he'll take a step forward they'll use him more he'll have a running back the running mate that'll keep them fresh and help him a little bit he'll be a year into it I just think Devin single Terry will have the most opportunity so I'm I'm gonna pick him yeah I think I might pick him too I liked worries that the thing about him he's not se Kwan Barkley sick one Barkley just unbiased physical freak who can jump forty eight inches vertical and you can you can bench press the stadium any can you know he can out run you know cornerback secondly Devon single Terry the one thing I notice about him so first of all he catches eighties coordinator you know you can do all things with the football that you love the thing that I think that is different about Devin single Terry is he seems to see it all I I saw him this year when he had the ball in his hands even earning his first couple of games he was my you know how you got these guys right around you can try and make a miss he'll grab the ball he'd run he'd make one guy miss but he was he was also making the guy behind that guy miss you know he saw guys to two players away and he was making them miss with this change of direction is Stoppani starts I his vision is as good as I've ever seen his abilities not I mean he can I don't know that he can out run everybody on the football field but his vision is such that he makes a mess and so I think the th that's and that's what death Brandon being said about him before they drafted him his his vision is elite and that really helps a guy like Devin single Terry who may not be the fastest of the biggest blah blah blah but that guy sees everything and gets the most out of everything when the ball is in his hands and I think that's why and I think they're gonna be I think it's going to expand on that just I got one thing that makes and I would pick Devin secretaries well motor one thing that makes me reluctant to do that we don't know how many carries gonna get we don't know how much work is going to get I anticipate will get more work then he got this past year without Frank gore backing him up with somebody else going to back him up and you don't want to run him to death right I'm looking up is carries last year you had a hundred fifty one carries you like to see him get to twenty five yeah but is it asking too much I mean what are the coaches want to give him as far as work load I don't get you want to get two hundred plus calories and fifty receptions well let me look up his or something like that so that's a lot yeah it is but by the same token I'm not a lot I like that I I'm I like those numbers and if he does is able to get all of that he's he's gonna have a really nice year twenty nine catches this past year yeah I'd like to see another twenty yeah you know but again there's okay he can't criminal or game yeah that's true he can't control that either so he's gonna be though so let me ask you this then so you're saying to that's probably you're not gonna pick Dawson knocks for the same reasons you don't know how many catches are targets he's going to get in on your right you know yep so so they on the other side I think all well at just to per distinction there I think look single Terry can grow into a bigger role in the offense Dawson access even more room to grow into a bigger role on offense I think and he can help himself to by hanging on to some passes that came his way yeah it's unfortunate dry yeah not all I'm not I well I wouldn't say that defined his twelve year but it certainly was a factor so and the reason I think we remember his drops it seemed like they were Dr killers yeah so and it's a good offense the needs everything yeah therefore they were not hitting on all cylinders have they need to be more efficient and that and when you and it for us I think from me and you both and most maybe some bills fans man when Josh makes a good throw ketchup thing yeah right yeah he needs all the completions he can get and when he makes the right read makes the right throw you gotta you gotta be there for so I I'm with you I think Dawson knocks and Devon single Terry it's hard to get a handle on how well they're going to be used how many opportunities are gonna get who's going to be in the backfield with them are they gonna throw to the tight ends a lot is is Dawson are going to come back to be a primary target on enough place to get him the big jump forward I don't know ed Oliver is gonna be on the field so I I think he has a chance to I think he's the the likeliest candidate as well because we saw him jump in the second half of this last season but he does play defensive tackle I don't know if that means he's you know Jordan Phillips had nine and a half sacks this year I don't know if it Oliver will match that but I think it's gonna be on the field enough to to have a shot a shot at that yep so we'll see all right Hey we're gonna take a break we as we got Chris Brown he's getting warmed up if you've never heard Chris Brown in one of his epic on your rants this might be the time I don't want to do I don't one of building up too much I don't want I want to talk about baseball in the show but we'll let him let him if he would he's he's done us a favor Chris Brown join is Ross going to take a look at the running back's spot for the bills as stated the bills on bills running back when we return what does lye presented by Kaleb health from the Seneca studio in orchard park this is Buffalo.

"Welcome them to the Jasmine Star. Show friends this. podcast is still very new. We are just about two months old. y'All and something I. He didn't expect when I started podcasting ways how freeing it was I feel so darn free to be one hundred percent of myself one hundred percent persson the time and I really you and I are just sitting here having a conversation. It's just US having a cuppa like. Did you know that that was the thing I was actually watching the BBC and they had a show. It's like I'm just enjoying a couple like CPA cuppa and they say cup. Like a cup of tea the way that we say out here sure. So let's just pretend you and I are in an episode of a BBC show and you and I having a COUPLA. I'm using an accent to kind of get me through what I am about talk about right now because sometimes I don't really talk about stuff and one of those those things that I don't know what he's talking about is that I have suffered from depression for years and I used to be ashamed kind of embarrassed to admit this but I've come mm along way and I know it's not that kind of like dog petting book Reading Coffee Drinking. Jd Loving Life that many people see on social media and it may be hard to believe that depression can be found in one of the most seemingly happy people you know but it is. I don't get let me wrong. Bill Life is beautiful. I do love my dog. I do have a great relationship. Thank God I do live in California where it's always away sunny and I don't even own umbrella like to be honest if it rains in California I just don't go out so there's that now I also also recognize that. My life is one that I wouldn't have dared to dream of as a child. I can also recognize however that there isn't a rainbow if it doesn't rain and not everyday is filled with sunshine despite the Newport beach forecast me till you now. I'm no that this probably sounds a little bit like after school. Special like did you walk through a hallmarks card store and see like there can't be a rainbow that doesn't mean you know what I'm saying but like back at the end of the day it still Kinda true. I know for many people. The holiday season can be a really tough time. Maybe you've had a loved one that has passed and Christmas. Miss just isn't the same now or maybe there are really a lot of high expectations on you during the season or perhaps there's just a lack of sunlight in winter in that is getting you down. That is why I wanted to share with you. One of the hardest yet most necessary podcast interviews. I have ever done in this episode with my dear friend. Amy Porterfield I get real with you about depression and she gets real about her journey as well in this conversation we had on her podcast. PODCAST is called online marketing..

Hospital Readmission Rates are too high

"Bill has serious heart failure and at seventy six. He's a bit fragile his heart condition means his health is poor. And an ambulance often comes and brings them to the hospital for procedures and medication adjustments needs days of few days, and is then discharged with medications and clear instructions on how to take the drugs, and what to eat but Bill lives alone, and he often gets things a little mixed up. So he then returns few weeks later to the hospital when he gets short of breath. This is Dr Michael Wilks with a second opinion. This problem of hospital. Readmission rates is serious, it drives up healthcare costs. And it keeps people like Bill from enjoying a better quality of life. It turns out that about twenty percent of people on Medicare who get discharged from a hospital will be readmitted within the first thirty days. Is that is far higher than it is in other developed nations. The problem is that hospitals get reimbursed every time they admit a person to the hospital, which is expensive. Remember, those charges of two thousand dollars a day for a hospital bed, and that's what out any medication or services, a visiting nurse stopping by bill's house to weigh him adjust his medications, and perhaps perform an EKG is a fraction of the cost of a hospitalization. But the hospital doesn't get reimbursed for the visiting nurse the incentives are lopsided the system encourages hospitals to discharge patients early. So they'll come back again. Well, the affordability Care Act tried to reduce readmissions by an acting a readmission penalty, the ACA imposed financial penalties on hospitals who had above average readmission rates for three. Three medical conditions. One of which was heart failure the other two were heart attacks and pneumonia since then the readmission rate for these three conditions has fallen sixteen percent. The readmission rates are probably still too high. But it was a large step forward. So while it saved money, did it help sick people like with any policy penalties or incentives can work in unintended ways. In this case did the penalties. Dr doctors to not admit patients who really needed to be in the hospital, and perhaps contribute to premature death. Well, the data is in all crystal clear yet, but some day to suggest the readmission rates have had a beneficial effect lowering death rates. Remember, hospitals are not a particularly healthy place to be unless you really need to be there while the. Question of whether the penalty actually saves lives and improves health is being more carefully. Studied it does seem clear that the incentives that promote hospitals, sending out nurses to watch over chronically sick people not only improves their health and the adherence to medications, but it reduces loneliness and social isolation, which also impact the quality of life a win win win. This is Dr Michael Wilks with a second opinion.

"But like you make a pivot in your life looking for something more like I feel like you could have settled in. And you could still be the I don't know what the deal is with a shawl job right now. But there well, the right now, they're currently really isn't a columnist there. But, but yeah, that could Bill life that I could have done for longer. I mean, certainly they didn't want me leave I think, and so, but in as you say in two thousand twelve my friend, Joe new comes up again again this book had gotten a job. It was the first ploy higher by startup called sports on earth. And by that time I'd done a couple of. Of magazine pieces. I'd do it for Sports Illustrated on the whole Harvey Updike, Alabama Auburn thing, and I felt like I could stretch in those pieces in a way that was increasingly difficult as a columnist and other things about being a columnist isn't as much as I loved it is very much like being really successful band in the sense that most of your fans what you to keep doing what you've been doing. And so if you do something different they're like, well, I liked you better when you were doing this other thing, and that's totally understandable. I'm I'm that way as a fan too. But I felt like for me to grow as a journalist I needed to try to do some other things. And so this sports on earth job opened up, and they they offer me to John right about college football. Which is the sport. I love the most. And I took it and sports on earth sort of flamed out fairly quickly it lingered for several years after they got rid of me. And they got rid of me after about a year. But it was never. What all of us hoped? It would be start. They had some really bad business problems. They just were never able to solve it sounds like every. Right. And I knew going in most startups fail, right? Yeah..

"Extremely drunk curling now. There'd be a little curling. Yeah. I guess. Oh, speaking of drinking real quick. Did you see the story man deaths in the United States because alcohol it's getting to a crazy level? Eighty eight thousand deaths a year. In the United States. And they're saying this is a huge issue. We gotta do something about this. But at the same time, they can't tackle it the way they would say smoking because well drinking still enjoys social acceptance over time, especially those with money. And those who make laws smoking became more and more of a well, that's just you know, for the downtrodden the lowly people, but drinking is not looked at in the same way. And ban. The deaths are up since the year two thousand between thirty five and fifty percent. Wow. And so as they're looking at all of the economic costs in everything from it. They're unsure of how to tackle the issue just because of social acceptance and then when we get into the legalization of marijuana. This is where I'm always like, hey, the best mind is the sober mind. But if you're comparing the damage that can be done between alcohol and weed, that's when that hypocrisy does raisins issue with me. I don't think we know the depths of the weed yet. No. But let's just. Let's say it's a cousin. You got to choose. It's one or the other the cousin is either addicted to weed or booze. You have to choose one going. We'd I'm going to Chuck. Yup. That's kind of the point. Eighty eight thousand wow. It says alcohol which causes eighty eight thousand deaths a year in the United States eighty eight thousand one if I don't bounce back. Well, it certainly would have participated. Yes. Is there was a lot to those heart attacks. But, but there was a lot of a lot of bad behavior in those heart attacks, I understand certainly part of it. Something else wanted to hit. There's a mom, she blogs, and man the backlash on this woman is huge. Talking about Katie Baur. She writes about being a parent. She's a so-called, mommy blogger to try to write this Instagram post, which was supposed to be loving about one of her kids. But it has backfired as you want to read it for you. She says I love my kid, even though he doesn't get the lights on Instagram. He should. Oh, jeez. Oh, so what you right she she has a picture of the kid and she says thankful for western today. My west was just the best baby. Cuddly and easy hard toddler always on the move, blah, blah, blah. She goes on and on and on. I'm going to be perfectly honest, Instagram. Never loves my our lights might munchkin. And it killed me inside. His photo. Never got as many lights. Never got comments from a statistical point of view. He wasn't as popular with everyone out there. Oh. She's she says, but it's okay because well, I love him. Anyway. Bad. Mom, horrible, mom, horrible person. Deplorable. That's awful. That's horrible. My kid doesn't get as many likes. What little uglier than the other ones? Is that what you're saying mom? There's actually audio this woman to if you want to hear her. Oh, absolutely, okay. Rating annoying voice. Here you go. You go. How do people who thought that I needed him to delight? No, I like him. I like nothing's going to change that. He's just awesome. All my kids. Are smart y'all kids know there's like on photos. Yeah. What do you say to that? She says in the post that he has a statistical deficit. Sounds remorseful. And weepy though, that's a horrible way to describe your child. There's more. And it's very human nature to compare. And so for me, my personal growth is teaching my kids that it does it. Some people are going to be like, well, why are you have your kids? Go lose it. Okay. She says it doesn't matter. But she wrote this long blog post about why it matters about. Well, I know that he is statistically deficient compared to their kids. But I loved him just the same. He's butt ugly. I love him. So. Journey Bill life gal this gobbledygook gooky. I'm on some life journey shut up. So what you're saying? Is you want more of her horrible thing? You get to choose that. What my choices is. I shared who they are. And I get to share their struggles. And to keep some of it. Specifically about this situation. I chose to share this because I thought it would be encouraging to somebody else out there that they have to understand that social media does not even hold a candle to help awesome real life. That's the personal growth. I had to learn that everybody will have to learn and all my kids will have to wait. And I hope that they know that their value is it likes or statistics, see. She says she's here to teach the world to sing at a little lesson. You could also just turn off social media. I mean, you don't I don't understand how she's surprised by the fact that there's been backlash because she called her child statistically deficient. Yes. All right. That's a good talk.
