Talk a little SCA. Let's go into it. Here we go. My next guest is seen on the competition barbecue Circle, but this past weekend went down to Texas for the Steak Cook-off World Championships. And all he did was walk away with the first place trophy here to recap the wind talk a little steak cooking is the Pitmaster of Kosmos Q competition team Darien cuz Ravi joining me here on the show Darren. How are you, buddy? I'm pretty good. How are you doing? Absolutely fabulous, my friend and I appreciate you joining me tonight. So last to get to when it comes to talking about the steak cooking and all this great job you did down in Texas. But if you could can you talk to me a little bit for the folks that you know might be just tuning into the show for the first time or haven't gone through the extravagant run of archives here on this show, you know thought about yourself kind of how you got in this whole competition barbecue thing. Well, it started ten or eleven years ago. We just you know, I I guess mostly like everybody else see something on T and think you can do it and then we we find a competition here close. So we enter that was lucky enough to get our name called and just get hooked ever since and and you look back be honest with you. Just been just been going out of every year during if you if you hadn't got the first call as it's something that you still would have did not enough fun at the first one call or not where you would have went back anyway. Yeah. Yeah, we had a good I did a lot of work though back then ten years ago. It was a little lot different than it is now now I'm back until 6:30 in the morning. We're back then I never went to bed. So but I still would have went back because you know at the end of the day man, I just love home cooking and cooking aspect absolutely love and not to mention the socializing with all the people wage and you know now over, you know, ten eleven years. It's become a family so, you know, I look forward to to seeing you know, my family members on the weekend and just catching up and down hanging out and Cooks BBQ. Let me ask you a quick question. You know, when you look at it ten years ago 11 years ago just said you're up all night and and there's a lot more I guess quote unquote work or labor and birth. Of then you're doing now was it a different product back then is it was at one that can compare to what you're doing now, or are they completely two different worlds? In my opinion, they're two different worlds with the the evolution of the barbecue, you know products the injections rubs and marinades jokes back then they were around but they weren't near as refined as they are now and and not to mention the equipment has changed a lot better. We've learned a lot so that the whole evolution of barbecue in my opinion has shifted forward not to take anything away from you know guys that were doing back then because if it wasn't for them, we'd never be more at during cuz Ravi joined me here on the Shelf from Cosmos Q. We're going to go ahead and take a look back at the Steak Cook-off this past weekend down at home. All right, so, you know, there was a huge barbecue competition this weekend number of other ones too, but obviously the most well-known one was the Jack Daniels. We were just talking to Bill Gillespie about that this past segment also log Was the sca event that the big Steak Cook-off. So is that something that you had to qualify for previous to getting down there or kind of if you can kind of give me the the run-up to that steak tough situation. Well unbeknownst to me. I thought to be honest with you. I really didn't know much about it. We were actually going to meet the boat rides up at a competition, but we couldn't get in. So we said, you know, we found a state competition and we went to it and we was lucky enough to meet, you know, just a ninja though, the reigning world champions the last two years and just got to talking with them and and the birds from down in Texas and Cali. There's there's a bunch of them Pigs Barbecue, you know, just a bunch of guys and we just got to talking and I I I'll be honest with you. I didn't know that there was this whole federal state competition is realistically it's as much fun as barbecue if not more sometimes and that's Only because of the aspect of you don't have to do nearly it's not nearly as labor intensive as barbecues, but I didn't know so we got to talk with them guys. And you know, there was there there was other barbecue competitions around her clothes and I mean we looking at our schedule and I'm like, well, you know, I don't want to travel 500 miles if I got a state competition that's you know an hour from my house. So we got to do in a couple State competitions and you know just filling the gaps in between barbecue sauce and I still didn't know that I had qualified or I didn't qualify on because there's two ways you could qualify to go to the game World tissue up and that's one you have to be one of the top top ranked teams in the points standing or have to win a competition. And we were just learning it figuring it out. I think we only did like five or six of them and at that point, I think it was just four or five and off somebody at said, hey man, dude, your three points away from being qualified to go to the world champion, and I'm like, well, I didn't know nothing about it and I actually had a friend Jake he brought the spreadsheet over to my house cuz I'd look look where you're at. And I was like, oh, I didn't know so I was like, well hell let's go cook a steak competition. We wasn't doing nothing that weekend. So Thursday, we packed up and headed down to Sweetwater and we got lucky enough. We just needed a nice place call and we got enough we got six and that just that got us into the top points in dog s c a championship. So we got an invite on that right? So if you can when you get down to the national championships this past weekend, you know, how many teams are in and I guess wage For the folks that really don't know much about I mean, you said yourself you didn't really know too much about it. Is it just like a 1-day thing. Do you bring your own meat, you know kind of set that scene for us. If you cook and you pay your toll free and you go down there and when they have the cooks meeting on Saturday, that's when they put all the meat out on the table and then they go to a system and that's how you get a picture of meat on the whole as you're looking at the table of meat. I mean, is it all pretty similar stuff? There isn't one that you know, you would feel a shaft that it's need to go last, right? You would think that right kind of but but actually the guy that got second place off at the championship. He I think he picked 6060 first. So he was almost dead last in picking 6 months. That's why as you get your steak, you know, this isn't obviously like an overnight situation that you're you know used to it at a traditional competition with prep and injection and all this other crap. So on Saturday the day, how do you prep the meat? How do you set up the grill, you know some of the the cooking tricks if you could You want to know what Darien did in 2015 head on over to the BBQ Central show.com hit the link in the show notes. It'll take you to the complete episode. You can find out what he did. I got a feeling it's a fast we did back in 2050 and then it is today. I'm betting they weren't tying them up like hockey pucks and painting perfect cross patches on them and they're weird little odd bastardized steak thing. And anyway, hey while you're over on the internet, make sure you check out the butcher shop on their Facebook page facebook.com / The Butcher Shop mention the barbecue Central show when you put in an offer and you're going to save 10% each and every time and until next time on the best moments of the barbecue Central show in 10 minutes or less. The new or new whist embedded correspondent Jeff Rice. Um? But, the votes are in the votes have been tallied record number of votes. And before you jump in and go greg last weekend last week, you said hundred thousand dollars to the winner. Total lie. When I listened to the show. I didn't say oh that's I. Did say that immediately upon saying that the winner was also going to get a Sony records recording contract, but maybe everybody drew that conclusion on their own. But I did not say that the money was be S. The money is. Your. Myself or riser is not getting a hundred K. cash. If I win at one of us is going to the stupid singing contest, so don't think either of us are getting rich, and by the way if somehow there was one hundred thousand prize pool, so it's the votes are coming in to me, even if Jeff won by seven hundred and fifty eight million votes it would be me winning. For one hundred grand I'll cheat. I hope that doesn't throw my. Values and moral compass right down the drain. But if the votes are coming in to me and nobody else wants to set up shop through some type of price clearinghouse water Deloitte Touche whatever the fuck it is! Those odds are going in my favor. And I'M ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE You know run to score in sports, it'll sportsmanship. Run it up. The second string is good. Run it up if the third string is good, brought it up. I'm just GONNA cause I would expect somebody to run it up on me, so I'm going to run it up to. Likewise in this kind of a contest of one hundred thousand dollars is on the line, and I'm counting the votes, and it's me or racer going to get one hundred grand me I'm getting one hundred grant. Let that be a lesson to all of you? who were going to go into competition with me? Win If you can. As my dad always taught me. Win If. You can lose if you must but always cheap. Cheap! It's only cheating if you get caught. And if you're not cheating, you're not trying I got them all. People are tuning out left and right. Don't forget. We took it a step further on the lives and went live. We actually did it live. And Sang our own socks jeff saying of course. Jeff. What did you sing last week? Ring afire by Janika by Johnny Cash, a well-known standard I think it's fair to say in the country music world and I went with the. Task Standard R&B Smash of the late nineties anytime by Brian McKnight which. After further review. May or may not have played to my success detriment. Ladies let's you know everybody can see you right. Yeah, okay, so Mattie. Let's start with you first as you recollect over the lives last week. Your fought says We get ready to learn who the winner of American idol decentral show addition. I think that you did good chose all that. Of Push your limit. But I think that all racer hood of The song was less just talking or singing in actually Pushing himself, and not taking the easy way out, but. we're doing both of you at the time. I mean you know one and then the other Marley your thoughts on the live singing from last week. I think you both well. I have figured that you did push your limits more but rice her. Take some more not pushing limit song. Stay. Good words. Go ahead. What a Just know how to speak Terrell okay. Go ahead, No! I. Don't think Marley. Are you done? Did you review me yeah. You said you did well. Go ahead bobby. I think it was racers best performance of the whole. Series this season. Let's call it a season. Why not? I do think it was an easier song. Pick for a finale. I would have preferred like Bang Wa. But. That's okay. you. Greg just pick more oven. Out, going, Song but. I'm not a hundred percent certain. It was like the right outgoing song Because it wasn't well known or I didn't know it, I don't think. It was also like almost too much career. It was too much of strike pushed myself too far. The limbs it was outside the limits. Let's say. Pushing. It was way, too. Jeff. What did you think of myself? Well you certainly have awesome singing skills to be honest with you I mean you without. Yeah, without a doubt you can. Sure so. Well and likewise, Jeff I thought you nailed your performance, and as we talk through the course of the week you know sometimes song choice, not sometimes when you hear these singing shows. They always talk about song choice being key one week. It's great, but then one week you pick a bad song, and then all of a sudden. You know you find yourself on the outside. Looking in that's it. All right. Well for this. We've come down to. There's been a record number of votes accumulated over the course of the week. Why in the in the first twenty four hours of voting I have specific numbers that are verified over one hundred eighty seven votes were cast in the first twenty four hours, a hundred, eighty seven in the first twenty four hours, a total of three hundred and sixty eight votes. Thought and I'm telling you right now. In the first twenty four hours. The decision was already cast. The term boat race comes to mind. It is my. Great Pleasure. To announce the you the twenty twenty I have American idol barbecue central show winner. And that purse. With well over three hundred and sixty votes. Is none other. Than the man from Wisconsin Jeff Rice. first-ever American idol barbecue show in Karachi fashion. To See. In coming in. I wanted to eliminate all email addresses that I had just so I could stop the bleeding. The EGO took a swift kick to the balls early and off, and it was terrible girls. You've heard the results and a German shepherd, an cured the. Third. In a dramatic beatdown, perhaps that will likely never be matched again in the history of future sees. Bobby, what do you think of the results justified yesler? Yes, I think here was her. No I, don't know. I. Don't pay attention to the show tonight. Should there have been that big of a gap Oh. I don't know about Babic that's a lot of. Out, but I, think he did a good job and you did. Jog nonni yet? Mattie your thoughts on the gap I I think that because the song that you chose Song, he chose trying to make sense because now lot people your song, but a my defense. I didn't know his song either. I didn't know what I feel like. A lot of the listeners might have known that song. It kind of makes sense, but you guys both did a good job. All, right, Mattie. What are Marley? What do you think the? I thought that the votes would have been closer together because I think he both good, but. Think just got it. You're surprised that there was that big of again. No doubt Yeah I can all right. Let's go to the. Winner of American idol. For, his acceptance speech talk to the judge of course Jeff. It's Jeff Kaiser for American idol barbecue central show periods. Well. Thank you very much I. Mean I am shocked I mean I thought I was going to get my plate handed to me to be honest with the I thought I had no clue part of my a Probably my instincts is I'm a football coach for youth football and I think my my defense of football brain came into fashion, and I did make it simple. Let's just get out there and make it simple, but girls. You really enhanced my singing abilities by far to be honest with you because you pushed me to the limits and I was working pretty hard for few weeks on a different song, and at the last minute I changed it and I think it was because. The little bit of the You know the pushing yourself I thought if I, push myself out completely collapse on the air, so I did take a maybe a little bit simpler, but again I I appreciate you guys telling me to sing harder and do better in try so I. Did I did my best John I appreciate all of the people that voted for me Jeff. What was the song that you were working on that? You dumped? Do Haas Mash by Ramstein. You gotta be kidding me all my God. I can I can tell you right now of the people that are sitting in this room. That would have earned you one vote from the lady that you see on the left us from Rom. Yeah Oh yeah. Mattie is a huge German rock fan. Believe it or not do Haas Alright, Mattie, single little. Do Haas go? You'RE NOT GONNA, sing it. She does know that. Yeah, okay. Well there you go. There's Jeff Rice. The American idol barbecues. Joe I ever. Ladies Thank you for being expert judges the season. And if we can pick up a sponsor that will actually give us one hundred thousand dollars next year then we'll have to make him Thing on the paper. So we can hang it up. How dare you can't take away for me? Yeah, we'll get you a trophy. You can't take away video at lives on the Internet forever. Be Able to take all right, so that brings a close the American idol. By the way were being joined by Chad Ward from whiskey bent. Barbecue I'm going to throw him in here. Just once I don't think I'm lying or the hell is there it is very. Is there Chad War right there? Does. Not the. the guy who Wisconsin. Beat my ass to the tune of plus three hundred votes in the singing contest I want aren be Brian McKnight for the final two. Really show the audience that I was willing to push the limits of my singing ability. Jeff goes with Johnny Cash Ring of fire which. Requires zero singing ability whatsoever. You just have to have a nice deep voice and cadence. What do you think I mean? You're a master of talent evaluation. I I think he had to go something Greg. That was a little more a little more finale understand. You're trying to show all those rights. Those you know the runs and all. Those skills off, but I mean you got something a little more upbeat than that, so I'm GonNa. Give you a bad judgment on picking that there you go. It's all about song choices. The judges say look. A little more Karaoke. You know what I mean like maybe some. Friends in low places, something like that like the crowd going feeling well I. I'm going to consult you if we ever have a season to be. If I ever make it back to the finals, you'll be on speed dial for song consultation. No doubt about it so I wanted to have you on here as we close out the first segment here in the second hour. One of my mom I favor most one of my favorite conversations that I have ever had in the history of the shelves, never been thousands and thousands. A handful of years ago, you're at the world food championships. You come back on on a Tuesday to recount your trials and tribulations. I think maybe it was in Vegas that. You're still or one. It was advocating so is the first couple of years that world through championships going and you begin to Regale me with a story that involves a craigslist trapper, but not just any trapper. Abair trapper a not just any bear, an eight hundred pound bear, and it goes on and on. Is Let's clear the air right now. Let's go to the right now. Is this a true story or not a true story. This was a I would say it was a bit of fabrication, but it was such a good story to tell at the coach meeting. When you ask, a question I've is a bear is a bear legal and everybody looks at us like what in the heck is going on on? That was it was one of those where it's like we made the top ten, so we partied really hard the night before, and it's one of those where you Kinda. Got The cooks meat, and you're like am I hung over and I still a little bit buzzed like what's going on and and I just thought it was great so I just ran with it. So people thinking Oh my God I mean you know because it's not like you guys have a pristine reputation. I, mean you guys are little rambunctious from time to time especially back then before you really started to dial it in and hone in you. Guys have been known to party little bit a little bit brash, and so forth so where people really like man. It's fifty fifty with this guy. He might be pulling our leg, but he might be pulling an eight hundred pound bear to cook running style on a pit from Brad. Yes I I would say there was some people that are like whispered in the background like. Do you think chatterly going to go through with it? And and so like like to the point of view that like man and those guys went and got the groceries we had planned on cooking, and I stayed back, and people are like. What are you doing and I'm like do the trapper should be here any minute like I I can't tell you a chance of showing up and not one of us being here to. Take possession of this thing, so I mean you were playing it right to the hilt. I mean if you're GonNa, tell a story I mean. Make it authentic well. This has spawned one of the things that I like to do is go on the Internet and find things. Joe Rogan obviously has a huge podcast getting paid multi multi hundreds of millions of dollars here recently through spotify, but one of the things he has on youtube are animated parts of his podcast and I said Man I think it would be pretty cool to find somebody that might be able to that so i. I started scouring the Internet I found somebody here locally, believe it or not. Who Does this type of thing? Talk to you and said hey? Do you have any issue with me? animating the best bit ever that has graced the airwaves and Internet ways of the show. And you said Hey, absolutely, so we worked out through our character descriptions here but animated, but it's finished, and it's ready to go, and I wanted to unveil it with you here tonight. Are you ready for the public unveil? Can't wait. Let's do it like Bart Scott. Can't wait. Ladies and gentlemen I give to you. The animated Chad Ward Bear Story from World Championships World Premiere. Right now. Well the problem was. I had a trapper. Then it caught me. A bear. Like a real trapper. Yeah I had a bear had a pair on lockdown. WHO. Use, Brad Orson from the sheds pit and I. Was GonNa Cook that bear running style well. Hot and fast for two hours really I'll just going to get off of that man. How big! How big was the bear? was like eight hundred pounds. were. What look? The trapper already had field journalists. Radin already sending us. We're were GONNA. Do it because they think about that. Presentation I was GONNA cut the head off that bear claw. And have a same flair in his mouth. There is nothing that says surf and turf. Like Salmon in a bears, Matt, you're Damn Right. So look little. You know this was a bogus strapper. No thank God. We had thirty pounds skirt steak. In the cooler, so we we, we get the word about twenty minutes. Indigo time trappers not come. We got no bear. So we did skirt steak tacos and salmon talking. About that. Moral Premiere of the animated bit. What do you think after seeing? It is it is often. That is so funny that only line that I that I remember from that story that I wish we would have been able to work in. There was never trust a bear trapper on craigslist. That that was that was a solid, but dude I got an awesome job. That was that was great. You know. When you go back and listen to it. I had. Fired up the actual video and made a quick bumper every once in a while I'll post it, and it's a great video to watch as it happened during the show because I mean I'm sitting there in my mind boggling, you tell me that is an eight hundred pound bound like man. This is a real as bear. And he found this guy on craigslist, and this could be a catfish attempt worried for your safety and. Then, you're like well. Lil, you know that that's bear. Trapper was Fagin like oh my. The story was unbelievable so to sit here and find a guy who was able to animate it in his animation was absolutely spectacular was great so. The goal here is obviously is to comb through and find some you know one or two minute bits that we can start posting up to the youtube page and stuff like this, but just wanted to say that. From your history with the show chat, a unquestioned that you are one of the best recurring guests, you're a barbecue central show guest hall of Famer already, and we know that, but the fact that we have been able to remain friends over the better part of ten years, or so and the content the you brought to the show and the business that we have done together with the show is certainly unrivaled to end i. just wanted you to know that I. Appreciate you both from a friendship standpoint and a business standpoint You're really one of the best guys out there. What Greg, thank you so much for that and and like I, said I mean I remember when I first got into barbecue, I leaned on this show so much to to know to talk to folks and get to know the personalities out there, and and I always felt like like even when I had my show and you talked about it like when you have a show like this, it makes you understand the like so many people in the barbecue order. Order, approachable and people learn some of the. Oh, I didn't know he was a packers fan or I didn't know this. It gives them these talking points that they can use the feel comfortable and a competition at a barbecue event to go up in their ourself and say hey. I heard young. Greg show or John or heard you on this podcast. You know what I mean so I. Think I've always said. You were the pioneer of Barbie Barbecue podcast. took it to the next level production qualities amazing, and even when I wanted to start my show, you were such a great friend, and and so helpful, and so man I echo the same thoughts I, appreciate the friendship and everything we've done in. You know if I can anytime you give me a call and say hey i. need you I love to be here. Love the centralize all right. Chad well certainly appreciate the time you've made this evening and go watch that cartoon one hundred billion times because I know I'm GonNa. We'll do man take care guys. Various Chat Lord from Whiskey Bent Rbq. We have debuted the animation. Of The bear story from Chad's. World, Food Championship company I'm still trying to find the original show so I can actually point back to. It's you can hear everything but. Man That's so fun and so exciting. Happy to share that with Chad and all of you as we debut the first animated bit. We have Daneil coming up out of the break as we want a little long hair with announcing the American idol Barbecue Central Show edition that being jeff rice in a landslide victory, and then Chad Ward with traegergrills, traegergrills DOT com. Unveiling the animated story, the animated bear store. If you want an animated bit. I can I can't believe I can actually say this now, but I know a guy. He's in Stowe. Ohio, which is like twenty five minutes away. I had no idea but if you're looking for I, can make the connection. All right. We're back with day. Neil, right after this cigarette. Celebrating over ten years of prolific and unparalleled live fire barbecue wouldn't really talk. and. Yes, it's still being done from Cleveland. Ohio, you're listening to the barbecues central show. Thanks again at Chad Ward, and the expert judges and Jeff Rice for joining me last segment Sports Michele, being brought to you, by Smithfield had to Smithfield dot com throughout the grilling season as recipes. This evening can be heard each Saturday from two to four central on his show via the mega blow torch, known as Wgn seven twenty in Chicago is the host of the on the road with Dane, a lover of live fire, barbecue, grilling and eating in general, and we have a fight to night. As we race the hotline, welcome back. To the Shohei date. Hey Greg. Good to talk to you. A lover of eating monitoring my my photos, NC, eating, expanding into other sides somewhere a triple X. medium point that is Yeah, that is barbecue media out about a triple X.. Have a quad xl barbecue central show shirt, so if you keep trying really hard, and you cross over that threshold, send you the shirt free. You know it's not for lack of desire, passion, commitment, and all that kind of. Phone structure I don't think I typically old the read I would I would like to have so so I don't know I have to like maybe just next I think we're all top is. No problem, don't eat on my accounting. Stay healthy. Stay all that good stuff they neil joining me here on the show wgn Is a WGN RADIO DOT COM. Is that the best one? Not, Dot Com is is the place to go? We've got a brand new website and all that stuff can just check it out there. Lots of great teachers. Of course we had a lot of the food stuff for wgn. Then also motorsports and travel, and all the things all the things that aren't happening right now forever. The ball well nothing like covering all the things that aren't happening for job. Security No! No doubt about now. We have an interesting thing that's going on here. Though Dane, which is called Barbecue Fight Club and I'm a man of total piece of course I say with peace and love, but I think I might like a barbecue fight club scenario so the folks that aren't aware or been seeing some promo on this Give you the lowdown on what this event is all about. Yeah so this is one of those kind of moments in time things where you got a just. Whether. It's an different vocations and sports, and certainly in the tissue barbecue, so many people are on the sidelines right so this was one of those opportunities where we just like this is. This is kind of a place in time to able to make something happen is. Fans of Barbecue. Fans somebody's personal values stumping Kinda, cool and different to be able to to check out you know and kind of replicate with all the food gb we worked in and around a lot of nothing wrong with it. It's all awesome. To be able to highlight you know kcbs real competition real world champion pitmasters, not dust personalities. Have them in one place on one night with. Yes judges and then and kind of highlight what it is that they do, but in sort of that concentrated. And and do offer global audience so the first time ever that that's happened for live pay-per-view. Will this be something that is on a pay per view channel through a cable provider, or is it going to be a pay per view through some type of Web Service? How do you hook up with us? So this is the son fight TV and so fight TV is. There like a leading global platform for mixed martial arts, and for all do all the UFC and the other professional wrestling and anytime there's a big time by nomadic pack y'all versus mayweather. They're the ones that handle that, so they do that they do that over and over one hundred countries, so that's where it would be as as that. And but it's available, so you can get on your streaming service. You Watch it on your phone. Whatever anybody's got a smart TV or your Roku or anything like that? you're able to go ahead and watch it as well and so it's it's available everywhere. Know The for the Motorbike Club which is some of our kind of the geneticists up the whole thing is. they this last time with some of the biggest stars in Supercross, their partners with its huge barbecue fans. They were with US supporting a part of the BBQ smoked on Chicago. It's be was motorsports connection there. They did it for the first time. Ever ten of the top supercross riders team history put them in an undisclosed location because the pandemic, and you don't need a crowd there. They could draw crowd, but that's not what they're looking for. And did match-fixing kind of have this collection of greats in one place to do it and and it was, it was bought him north seventy countries, and so barbecue has. step Sami. We think about it. Just kind of our ambition is you know American food in and it is, and it is, but our SARS, it's expanding in the desire for and I think the appreciation for America Barbecue is happening all over the world are stars traveling in case if you ask your their extinction contests in forty two countries, so there's GonNa. Be a lot of people interested in. Who is going to be taking place during the fight? Like Fight Club that? TV, so that's the word I hope there won't be any fighting, but then again I do on. I hope I mean TV and fighting is ratings. I think so I hope there's fisticuffs aplenty. Eddie. We've ever seen hockey right? That's one of the. The does it so the so what we wanted to do. Is you think to yourself when it first got brought up to be like well, you know food has never been a pay per view thing. We have entertainment. It's all it's all I mean other than maybe you're kind of tell, brisket, recipe or or different subscription services. It's just not the kind of thing that you typically pay, so you'd have to think. Think like what would be something special. You know what would be something that would make it. An event would be to do it in one night with all of these grace. We've got six different pitmasters in there that are there. We've got Kelly from forelegs out. Barbecue Pat Bill Gillespie from smoking hawks. We've got a fascinating mcallister from one three. Is that Luke turnout from Old Virginia smoke? We've got Darren worth you can't have a a great matchup without one of the greatest, if that greatest of all time in there as well and so, it's It's a collection that you would not necessarily see altogether, and only against each other, and then and then we've got six judges to, so we've only announced three of the judges so far. Soon Ray lamp Dr Barbecue now these are personalities. Obviously you see him on TV all the time, but but they are your. They walk the walk as a as a certified. Certified judges well all that street cred, so it's a little different than you know. Chopped or or iron chat right where you've got a great personalities and they know what they're talking about, but there's no it was formed sports elements just isn't into it, so the emily detweiler from ktbs and going to be sanction kcbs contest, and so she's going to be. Be In there as well and I know you appreciate what it is that that she's been doing so she's been I think a great kind of force in barbecue since she's got over there to hyper there as long as Scotty, Johnson, who is a local? You know he's one of our Chicago guys, but I would say by far the most accomplished, comp. COMP. COMPETITION PUPPET MASTER IN CHICAGO. Jack, champion world champion, so he'll be there dispensing his midwestern commonsense and and and come straight talk that he's famous for, and then I'm actually going to announce something. We're announced this until tomorrow, but I'M GONNA break up little bit of news on the central. Let me give you the sounder. Let me give you the sounder. Barbecue Central Show exclusive news? All right. From, the breaking news desk here in Cleveland Ohio, as we get ready to throw it down to Dane meal for late breaking news, go ahead Dane. Added to the to the roster and announced it'll be a major announcement tomorrow in the press release and Leeann whip, and it's going to be another one of our celebrity, but there's serious far eastern pitch. Fight. And a semi-finalist on the twenty twenty Barbecue Hall of fame list this year as well. There's no there's a Lotta representation you think about it, and and for the listeners and viewers right. They know that that you are like the you walk a live breaking news of poverty. There's nobody doing what it is that you do in for the hall of fame. You know because you have Blues Hawks Tim Sheer from shake bank has got to be a. he's one of the other competitors there to he rounds out the list of course, representing Blues Hog deer, and was nominated as well so we're GONNA. Have Great Potential Hall of fame. accusation station. When is this all going down? So there's GonNa be two things that are happening so on eight. Which is Monday? There's going to be a alive round table, so think about he's all of these personalities. These astor's. They're going to be there with. Some of the other personalities. Just basically I don't say shooting the breeze. You know they're gonNA. Talk a little bit about career barbecue. They're gonNA. Talk about maybe some great. Maybe unknown Tom Test moments some funny things that have happened maybe some challenges, but also to it's going to highlight is it's really been under served with traditional food, TV, which is like most important part, and these guys. Aren't you know not the win titles and championships, and that's great. New Trophies are awesome, but it's the community you know Camaraderie. It's you know people don't get their. You know on Wednesday on Thursday or Saturday competition. Competition because they faded the people. They're hanging out with that as one of I. I think the truth, special parts about barbecue, so we're GONNA get into all of that. We're going to have interviews with each one of the teams that is, it's a free preview, and that is Monday coming up I think it's five PM. Central Time. So that's you can click in. If you get that, you can check it out. We'll be period on all this stuff. And then the and then Tuesday at five PM is one of bbq. Bychkov will be there. We'll have all the action from the competition itself. If. You tune in on Tuesday. This something were when you tune in on a six PM eastern five PM. Central that it's going to be a four or five or six hour event, or you're only doing one category, or is this going to be a whole shooting match? It's GONNA see. We're going to be building in some of the the interviews and some of the vignettes step back around. You give people from all over the world kind of a taste of who these people are and so women do production. We've only been out about a week and a half to put this together so to figure out exactly how we're. GonNa do it. Everything is GonNa be shot that day. Day and everything is going to be day. There's GonNa be a lot of live stuff. Try to feel with some of the really great content. Some of those times we've talked about Gregg ourselves. You Know Barbecue doesn't is it? Necessarily you know something that has a big board facing public entertainment component built right into it, so we're going to be working on that, but we've got three cameras. We've got drone got. Thrown We've got an opportunity to get in there and see how these guys are working. It's GonNa be all four mates. We're GONNA have all of that and then of course conversations. With the judges in championship belt at the end for the. Zor Cash dollar bills at the end to or just about. No there's so okay I'm glad you asked so since this is a paper, do people aspect okay? So? Where does the money go? Obviously you know a good percentage of it goes to the the platform right all the things that are necessary to create you know global broadcast and the production team, and all that kind of stuff, but we wanted to especially in this time be able to. To have always been you know a charity guy and raising awareness create pauses, and I know some of the pitmasters how subsidiaries that they're going to be raising dollars, for which is going to be great and then four salary, harsh barbecue released is near, and dear to a lot of things that we do so they'll be one of the kind of overarching causes support in KCBS lemass. The creators of great experiences and and contrast that's a it's a nonprofit as well so we're going to be supporting KCBS and then. Based on, and this is the way we did it with with Moto, fight club because there isn't. A normal you're the marketing promotion and things as television commercials are ads, just some great interviews on the? Central Show We're going to cut in, but we WANNA. Build into the pay per view and be super transparent about it, the pitmasters. And maybe even the judges you know because they are the talent. That's doing this. They'll be a part of it. We're going to meet them to help kind of spread the word and share it with their fans of course, both with all of the country national media that we can on our end, too, but we want everybody to benefit from this including some posits. Danial joining me here on the show talking about Barbecue fight, club, that's going to be coming up next week, so you have the free preview coming up on June. Eighth Five PM Central, six PM Eastern and then Tuesday, June ninth is going to be the main event which are actually going to have to get down for, and that's a ticket price of nine dollars and ninety nine cents correct. Yeah well, and this was. There was some I. Don't WanNa say pushback, but Club and certainly for the fights. If you GONNA, Watch you know heavyweight championship by yeah I haven't bought one in a while I know it's like fifty sixty dollars. Price Point for pay-per-view is high. I wanted it especially when we don't WanNa make it where people feel like they need to congregate when I was a kid and young adult, we would all get together at one person's house, so we only had to buy at once. It was like a party. What was your pandemic? It's social distancing how how those protocols observed. You know this way you feel like you can get it yourself and it's not. The end of the world, and plus this is new knowns ever done anything like this, and so I fought to make it as reasonable as possible so that people. Can do it never had a like a pay per view event? but I, but I love the idea of kind of presenting these personalities in a main event kind of tries spike style that just as or the of what it is that they do, and hopefully you'll see onset doing for the production day. I. Am one of the commentators so are you familiar with with stretch stretch room? And of course he's a he's artist. He's the one that creates the the trophies for the barbecue. Hall of fame a television Guy. He's he does it all. He's got a lot of greater stash down there against everybody is going to be the key the commentators, so we'RE GONNA BE! Yes, we'll be there in a in a gold ABC sports. Sport. Coats we will be. Calling all the action and things like back to you, and and all that all right, so if you are down for watching some competition barbecue. The beginning of next week again, the free preview June eighth at five PM. Central, six, pm Eastern and then the main event, the following night on Tuesday at six PM Eastern five PM. Central. Check it out. What's the website again day? It's fight dot, T. fight, dot TV, and then all the social media's. Fight and its fight. It's F.. In and club Kale up so bbq fight club across all the social media and I have to say chill wanted to mention this. Is that Snake River farms? It's going to be in on the stuff to. We just talked with them, and so they're going to be bringing in some of their world class All right, so it sounds like a very exciting I attempt and. I. Myself Am going to be watching for sure to see how this goes I love to see how productions and live things happened in come together because you never know what's going to happen in live production. That's why I tell everybody. If you've never watched this show, you gotTa Watch it live once because it never know what kind of mischievous malfeasance and narrative. Narrative Wells. We're going to show up or tech things that are going to be happening and seeing how people overcome adversity as I like to say, but hopefully none of that stuff is going to happen to you guys and stretches a great, so you guys know a whole bunch and you know how to talk, so it should be a gas as It should because, and there's no I'm glad you mentioned because that's one of the things a lot. These guys are in and around some of the some of the traditional television, and there's you know sometimes. It's contrived drama and they are trying to make TV, so this is. We'll just real drama, but. You know I it won't be any kind of fake contrive stuff since going to be a show Kingston. These guys doing well, thank you at the highest level all right sounds good this Daniil you can catch him on his normal shell on the road with Dane over on wgn seven twenty at the wgn radio DOT com. If nobody was on a plane inside there their doctor on the is their doctor in the house. So you don't say anything. Just sit there. And i hope there's a doctor all right fair enough one of the highlights of our conversation. This evening is going to be a topic which will call sign barbecue restaurants and you did quite a bit of research you Published an article all about it. You've talked about it. And i find it interesting because i think there is what you could call a stereotype or a stigma attached to the terms chain bar or the words chain barbecue restaurant. And in some instances perhaps well-deserved and other instances not so much so. Let's i guess. I look at it from a high level. Do people assume the chains are independently owned and or franchised at each location or not. Well i think different people assume different things because there's really is no formal definition of what a chain restaurant is actually spent a little time trying to dig various regulations. And things and the best. I could find were some very very ambiguous wording. So there's not like there's legal definition or anything of what a chain is or even an industry definition Act the term actually goes all the way back to the nineteen twenties and started off with chain stores like the piggly-wiggly grocery store was the first chain grocery stores but everyone has a very different definition of it in it. Depends you ask. But i think you know there's there is sort of like the neutral description of what a chain is obviously more than one One would be link so you have to have at least two. I guess to make a chain But beyond that there is definitely the connotation of a chain which is people. A lot of people would have a negative reaction to that Which is the chain restaurants in whereas other people. I don't think they even think about it. So i think everybody probably a little bit different definition of what a chain is and whether it is a good thing or a bad thing To to either be going eating at or if you're a restaurant tour if you want to say yes. I own a chain or no. Is there any mockery. When the term franchise is thrown in so you can have at least to my knowledge. One of the most successful franchises out. There is a mcdonald's of people. Mcdonald's blah blah blah but then you have other chains out there that are. Let's call corporately owned or core locations copeland corporate owned retail which is a whole different thing. That means that it isn't something that you or i could buy into. Its setup like starbucks. Think are all corporately. Starbucks is all all corporately owned as are like we believe that probably Mexican restaurants and in the barbecue. I think mission barbecue which is a pretty large chain now but all those stores are corporately owned. I think a lot of people do associate franchising with chains. Because it sort of they sort of go hand in hand if you wanna have twenty thirty forty fifty restaurants across the country it helps if you have franchisees who are actually investing and building and all that but the franchise is not necessarily a chain in. There are some instances where there are restaurants that have like two or three locations. One is owned by Franchise one or two other ones. I don't know if you'd call that a chain. Necessarily i think a chain you know is is definitely larger than that. It's sort kind of the deficit pornography you i don't i can't define it but i know what it is when i see one. Yeah works for me. We're talking with robert moss here on the show robert f moss dot com is his website. You can also sign up for the cue sheet through that website as well comes out over the weekend than really great reading so you should go and sign up for that if you're not already here while we're chatting in regards to more of this franchise and chain stuff is there or what are the benefits to being under the chain umbrella or monica. Well a little different. If it's the monica or the umbrella if being part of a chain you you're wanting to go into a restaurant typically and you and your franchising then you're going to. You're gonna buy into us assistant. Sorry story developed. There's operating models way of doing a depending upon the company. A lot of them will help you get started designed restaurants design everything Around that Ios certainly from a. There's something about a restaurant i think. Usually it's one thing to have one restaurant and usually when you get the to. You can handle that talk to most respiratory is once you start to get to that third that fourth restaurant if you're an independent operator then It's different you can't be every restaurant every time in you get more and more people so it you have to build a management structure you have to processes and yet to bill all those types of things so i think from your perspective of successful jane what is going to do is going to build in standardization patterns in ways of doing things so that the product in the offering is consistent Add in his scalable whereas if you're just sort of opening one restaurant after another after another each ones different than usual different in each place the maybe the the pitch you cook on a different each place is going to be very hard to keep scaling because now you have to have somebody in each restaurant who really knows the operation and so i think what you find is any restaurant starts to get up. Above couple of units a couple locations is gonna have to start. Standardizing is going to have to start your bringing that guy consistency operation. Bring in your managers. You can try new employees and teach them teaching the craft without just being watching their shoulder alter do you have an opinion on franchise locations being more hit and miss on consistency and quality than a core location. Not necessarily. i don't think. I have a single opinion. Why another on that. I do know that with each company's a little bit different in the way they do it chick-fil-a as one example. Which is here. You're based in georgia's said here in the south they don't like to have an individual franchisee to have more than one unit. Sometimes they can have to. I think it's for that reason they want to have the the Operator in the stores and in in very much involved other chains or different in so a owner can have four five twenty thirty thirty Restaurants that point now your franchisees having the same problem that the chain itself does which is now. I have thirty restaurants while now d- managers processes under the hr all those things that come with scale. So i think that I think the Having a franchisee be be closely involved. It can be a good thing. anybody's worked as franchised. Restaurants will tell you there's lots of of conflict between the franchisees and the corporate restaurants. Who want to the corporate restaurant wants to usually have standardization and control control menu control the decor and everything else the franchisees they know. Better than those pinheads. The corporate office and they wanna do it their own way and now you get to. The same inconsistency in each place is different. That sort of works against the advantages of having a standardized way. I was going to follow up and say that. A con of being under the franchise confinements were like operators. If let's say an operator says okay well in. I only have one location in this specific one. They keep asking for x. In it's not on. Whatever the franchises allowing so you're either at that point handcuffed that you're seeing money that you just can't have because you're gonna play by the rules or you're going to decide to throw some of the playbook out of the window and bring in some new product and sell it because you're more of a bottom line person which might get you in trouble or or in some type of violation of a franchise agreement. Yeah i think the the the door swings both ways right so the franchisees think that they want to get all the benefits of the of the of the chain standardization but they but they think they know they know their market and they won't be able to do things their own way and you flip it around back to the corporate guys like no we know better we can have the franchisees while getting and i think is probably it gets point. You get back to where you are with independent restaurants. Which is everybody thinks. They know what they're doing when they're in the restaurant they all be doing it right so some of them are making mistakes. Were doing making the right call And then you get the same inconsistency If you have too much deviation within the franchises that you do if you just drive down the road and pick any random joe's barbecue and pulled into it. So let's talk about the general john and jane barbecue consumer. Do you think that they are able to tell if you walked into a restaurant. And you weren't privy to a name or knowing if it's a chain or franchise or not or just independent. Do you think the general. John jane barbecue eater would know if they're at a chain or an independently owned position. I i think there's two factors to think that i think the the market i can tell you what the ratio is but i think it breaks into two camps. I think one camp probably doesn't know and probably doesn't care you know what they're looking for. Is you know this looks nice. And it looks like it's clean while lead or you know there's nice table tents and things like that and this is what i like and then i think there's a whole another segment of barbecue consumer who A if they think it's a chain going to already be negative Predisposed to are they go in and later find a has the chain they actually enjoying it up to the point where where they say always say. This is a chain right. I don't like as much as i used to. Because in their brain the chain has a has a big impact. One of the curious things that's been happening in the barbecue world lately just in the past ten years or so east not matter who was back in the kitchen right. And who is back manning manning the pits In the back the the the the cooks weren't really famous. If you think about the barbecue empires from twenty thirty years ago. It was the restaurant to zoos names or on that but just in the past ten years with the rise of kraft barbecue. There's been this returned to all the intensity and into wanting to you know. Know your pet master and have a face on there so you you've got this interesting dynamic where the story is becoming very important. And i think that's sorta started work yet to change a little bit and what you've seen is a lot a lot of the big chains that were founded by somebody. The founder went away and then came back. They actually brought the founder back in. So i think. I'm thinking sunny. Tillman with with sonny's barbecue and dave anderson famous. Dave of famous dave's both of them left. Businessmen came back because it's good to have that face of the person That that's a frie- the chain because people want that kind of authenticity in that kind of understanding who's behind this name. Who's doing the cooking. Do you have a thought on who you think. The most underrated barbecue chain is out there. Currently and who the best is now. I really don't. I don't have a the big chains the really large ones. I mean that's one of the the the dynamic change restaurant it's going to be you're not gonna really get usually just terrible food poisoning everything like that. It's usually going to be pretty pretty good quality but it's not gonna be great quality certainly if you look at my top. Fifty list differs living. There's not a whole bunch of chains on. They're the ones that are on. There are the ones that are call early stage. Prochains i think of Pat martin of martin's barbecue joint which has about. It's i think he's closing the ten restaurants in a couple of states. Now and that's one of the ones that i would definitely in my definition of chain And actually with southern living we've been going back and forth the editor's trying to codify definition a little bit to try to figure out what what qualifies as a chain martin's barbecue joint would but i still think they do a lot of things right and they have a lot of of of character and so i think that's one. I'm not sure if it's under any. Because i think it's pretty pretty highly rated but certainly of what are considered the chain. That's where bubble store the top of a of of molest dicky's the biggest at this point. It's a can't ever keep track dicky's as either. The biggest is certainly. I think has it's been expanding rapidly overseas so definitely has like the most countries under its belt for a long time Sonny's which is based in. Florida was the biggest thing. Dickey's is now a clips them Famous dave's is is growing and it's been Private equity money or actually. They're publicly traded company so they they've been growing expanding but i don't think they're quite to the scale of dickey's yet as far as i think. Dickie's is the largest but Just by like store count broader moss. Joining us here on the show talking about chain barbecue anything else you want to add to the chain conversation before we move onto books not not too much other than just i think it's. It's a murky subject and kurdish people. Keep try to keep myself and urged people to keep an open mind when it comes to to chains. But i do think. I think it's just the dynamics or interesting of what happens when a restaurant yo is trying to grow beyond two or three units in somewhere between two and three and the twenty. There's an interesting little sweet spot where you can grow where you can't go ahead and hit up robert moss's website if you want more info on chain barbecue but will transition over to book. Springtime early summertime is the wheelhouse for live fire. Cookbooks and you seem come out by droves certainly this year no stranger to a number of new books. Myron remixing his out with a kito book. Rodney scots out. With finally adrienne miller who we both know and has been a guest number of times here on. The show was out with a book that is doing exceptionally well. As you peruse the landscape of barbecue books that are live. Fire books to the sheer. What sticks out would you like. what don't you like. What's a gimmick. What's not not sure. If i don't like per se because i think there's is a lot of the same one of one of there's some interesting things i think there happening Happening this time around or this year is true. That every seems like every all probably won't bring out the barbecue books in that late. April may timeframe because it's barbecue season in my first thought was well that doesn't make sense. People cook year round. But also more you look at it. You realize that every may Editors in magazines are looking to do barbeque features. So if you have a book coming out right then it's a great way to get press whereas if you bring one out and say november people aren't necessarily going look for it I think it's interesting the way that the the book sort of follow the larger trends of what's going on and you sort of you know it's tough because a book doesn't get published in three three months. It is usually two or three year process from the time that publisher selects the book until the right completes it and they get they get through the publication process but it i think it does reflect some of the trans when one of the things i thought was interesting Coming out this year. There's a patriot. Publishing brought out three books all at one time. And i think it shows just the way that they're I think the rise of sort of branded barbecue equipment is really start to shape. The market so These books are all sort of Well they're based on different things. So one of them. Adam mackenzie book. Did a book called weekend. A weeknights smoking on your traeger. So it's focused particularly on traeger and it has the subtitle other pellet grills but tigers in in big letters and then there's another one bill gillespie sort well-known competition veteran Did a book on. I think so. Hot and fast on your weber spoke mountain cooker So it's really for smokey mountain. They're similar bullet cookers and then There's another one that came out. Same press is really about four fundamentals smoking and it. It looks at the different types of cooker. So it's those are being called out specifically. I think the idea is that you've got a lot of people buying or getting these these these new cookers or grills for the year for either ryan or a gift and then look out in the book to master that that happened last year as well. They're a bunch of books came out that were there. Were focused on that and cures enough. I got hit up a couple of times from folks. Who said hey. Would you like to write a book on on a cooking. On whatever appellant griller various models not passed on them. Because that's just not my thing but publishers are actively out looking for somebody. It's not like some guy. And says i really want right. The ultimate book on the the weber weber kettle. Oftentimes it's weber. Whoever you have the manufacturer is who's actually gone out and looking for someone to a payday smell or no. I guess it depends on on how you look at a you know ones getting rich off off of those books. I mean the best way to make money. You know selling cookbooks. Or selling books to become rich and famous and then write a book The sell out of copies but usually yup sure is going to well. I guess he's so well known but now it's it's. It's not a huge payday for somebody. But you'll pay you'll pay you know. Pay the rent a little bit and it may get you noticing and get lead to other things so it's usually more of a stepping stone. Then a great. I published this one book now. I'm done for five years. Robert got about a minute left. Let me ask you as we transition outta here. Barbecue hall of fame will be announced tomorrow so in no particular order of course Go ahead and give me your nominations. Yes i'm or talk through the diner. Who three picks did you vote. I can't i. Can't i can't reveal that sworn to secrecy. Why not nobody cares one. Vote or anything right. I mean you can tell you. Well if i was just your best nominating committees not not. But i'm happy to talk about. Who who who stands out to you or i mean. There's six of the nine or repeats. Meat heads a third pete in a row. Actually so i mean it's i would say it's certainly admirable for those names to get renominated because they are thrown back into the main holding tank and then basically ry argued for so there's obviously some type of deserve nece there to get put back at absolutely and i think that what my biggest takeaway from the list is strong list down to nine was really tough and we really went back and forth a lot of different things. I think if you look at the new names that are on this list Which i think is all gates at mitchell and joe. Dreger me all three of those. Those guys are legends. and so you know. There's nobody on that list. I don't think anybody would say isn't deserving all famous more just a question of is this the year or do they just hang around in and they'll get it next year So i think at this point it's almost down to Maybe like the full panel who they know better for that. Because i think from a quality standpoint all nine of those the finalists or any pick. You'll you'd have to say that's a pretty good pretty good class of inductees. no doubt about. We're talking with robert. Moss the website robert f moss dot com. Check out the chain barbecue. South dade wrote a bio two. And be sure to tune in right here tomorrow at three pm eastern as the barbecue hall of fame class of twenty twenty one is revealed. Probably always appreciate the time and the inside in the research and we'll do it against all right. Thanks greg. I appreciate you gotta. There is robert moss right. They're breaking it all down when it comes to chain barbecues. Did you know that there was that much information. Of course you didn't. That's why you're tuning in here. To get the best info i thought for. I had him for a hot second on revealing who he was gonna put in for barbecue. But i know derek riches is gonna tell me who he would put into the barbecue hall of fame. He's not on the names committee. He's not in the barbecue hall of fame. Which is the driver for. So i know he's not voting so he'll be happy to give me his thought. But i i will tell you all the good things about green mountain grills proper moss just talked about pella cookers or very popular there are books dedicated the pellet cookers i would imagine next year you will see a number of other barbecue books dedicated to pellet cookers green mountain grills are some of the best helicopters out there on the market right now a couple of different options. And i am excited to have you here for a couple of different topics to talk about. Let's pick up where we left off with robert moth. Dr robert i am. I talking with doctor. Derrick riches by the way not by a long shot not by on tried you could have said yes. Everybody would believe you away you go. You never have to answer it again. I know if somebody said. Is there a doctor on the plane though. Even if you weren't you would leap into action to help out foul comrade. I mean loss sitting there sulking and not helping anybody. How dare he but nevertheless let's start with some of the barbecue hall of fame stuff As i mentioned we're gonna be revealing the three inductees tomorrow at three pm eastern here along with park so as you peruse the list of. Let's call the nine finalists. That make it through the big culling of names and this year. I believe there were sixty five unique names. That were tallied. I think it was one hundred. Sixty five one hundred seventy total votes so there was a number of folks that got nominated more than once or twice however you look at it so as you look through that names list. Who's standing out to you or what you think of that list and then ultimately what three would you put it. Well first of all. I'd like to agree with you. Know dr moss had to say earlier and that is that the you know the the three that got nominated issued. The three new ones certainly kind of big names legendary people. that probably should have been recognized. A while back My take on the list. Is you know it's got a lot of great people on there. I'm going to go with. I think it's just rodney scott's year i think he deserves to be there and certainly you know it's a big year for him. Regardless so rodney. Scott i think on solomona throw it to Leeann weapon because i think that you know. I think it's her a she's done a lot. And you know it's good to see that kind of representation and needs to be reinforced and just kind of from my own a working in kinda history barbecue and traveling and stuff I'd like to throw it to all the gates. Oh right so we can obligates. And within and rodney scott is derek. Riches picks so we'll see unless the list. That's good those are you're a. Here's what i say you have the balls to say. Then it's good enough for me. Not only as robert moss sulking away on the fuselage of an airplane with people dying. He won't even give me the names that he voted for. I mean come on. What is he doing there. I am throwing names doing surgery or helping people that's right. I mean he's worked quickly working his way off the show i was. I figured we would maybe talk about some other subjects here. But then look at you posting about this best or most popular barbecue websites. And i'm like. Wow that's not you know i mean there are certainly great website on there but yes it's not necessarily reflection of best. This is most popular most popular analytics. People think that goes hand in hand. How do you differentiate. I don't look at the top ten songs right now. Are the top ten movies. Top ten tv shows and i think you'll find that many of them are not what we would call best tim. What was it kardashians. Earn season twenty. So best show and most best and most popular are not necessarily the same although. I think there's a really great really great sites on this list and you know it was about three months work getting this together. As matter of fact my intention was to release it At the beginning of the month kind of four memphis for him smith for may as arguments brunt sort of thing but I wanted to run a back over with some some analytics people. I know to really make sure. I nailed it down as best is absolutely possible. So you know. So what's the impetus for this. I mean it doesn't appear that if people read it they casually read it. Like i did and just about popular and best than all of a sudden we have a powder keg situation in a few different ways so like why right it. Well there's a couple of reasons one is that i mean i do consulting work with some companies and some of the pr companies marketing companies. And like that. They do this sort of analysis and they have access to these huge analytic systems. Like khan score or what is it. and some of those sort of things and you know. Sometimes i met brought in. I can use that those analytics to kind of do analysis for them on trending issues and things of that nature. So you know a lot of the companies already have this kind of information but it's not out kind of in the general public in it's not out amongst the fellow content creators or you know small businesses or in that range and i thought you know. I think that it's it's kind of important to show you know where the traffic is going to. And who has the sort of popularity in this area and the other real reason for it is because the kind of shift we've seen. I mean there has been this explosion in the last couple of years in to barbecue content and who's consuming it and how much is being consumed. You know it's a little early to say what the numbers are in her. This back and forth with some are suggesting a forty percent increase in barbecue grilling product sales for last year Which would make it. The fastest growing period in in barbecue in possibly american history. So we have this huge flood of new people into the space. We've got a lot of young people coming in a lot of novices coming in and they are creating this huge shift. Big paradigm shift in where. They're getting their information from where what content they're consuming now. You know this is just for barbecue sites and intentionally limited by removing the corporate side. So you know no weber. No traeger avows. I removed the general recipe sites the general cooking information site so kitchen in all recipes. You take them. At so focusing specifically barbecue sites i also removed the form sites because it's kind of a collective effort knowledge base sort of thing. I was looking at the specific content. Creators who are generating a website and the kind of traffic that generates. And you know this comes up with some really interesting because there is this shift. That's going on and it's both engender in a generation. We have four women on this list. Now you know. Suzy ball on your show. Last week is on their Just pilots who are now. She appears on your show. You know she's in there and so we have this kind of women content creators in barbecue becoming a much more dynamic powerful force here and a lot of these content. Creators are people in their late thirties. So we're looking at also kind of a younger age here and so we're getting much more of a millennial representation and this is reflected in the way millennials consume this information. They access information a little bit differently. They're more likely to come in from social media so they're more likely to peruse pinterest looking for something that looks good and follow that route or to come in from you know like a an instagram's or something like that. So i think that this is a really powerful shift in in both the consumer of the data in the creators of the data because people tend to kind of they look for content creators match their age their lifestyle a little bit that they they feel comfortable with that they feel like related. Lex them a little bit better. Yeah is that relate ability factor and so this you know wishing some of these sites exploding at rates six seven hundred percent annual growth rates. And when i go back. And i look at you know search metric information or a really broad traffic information for some of the big corporate sites or for just you know the general categories of search information The entire segment the barbecue and grilling content online media is growing arrate. Nearly three fold year over year and has been for the last couple of years and you know some of this is pandemic. I mean certainly last year we had this huge growth that way but the shift towards the pellet grills that huge explosion in pellagra sales. You know which is brought so many new people into the space and so i find this really encouraging because there was a debate for a while in in kind of barbecue in amongst on the business the pr firms and stuff was is the barbecue community. Just kind of getting older is. It isn't something that young people aren't as likely to take up or get involved with and we're we're certainly saying the opposite of that. We are seeing so many young people coming in and they're really shifting the narrative of barbecue the way they consume information the kind of information they look for and the websites that they're going to so you know this is just kind of you know You know this is. It's an amazingly dynamic and ever evolving landscape. We have to say you know the you know. The rules don't apply after a couple of years. What was cool ten years ago. Fifteen years ago. Twenty years ago. When i was starting out in this just not the same today and So many of these sites that have come up in here that have kind of jumped into the list in the last two years or so. They are very savvy very nimble. They are very you know they're they're really good search engine optimization the really social media marketing they're really good at doing their own data analytics and kind of knowing what their audiences and our audience wants and and you know. Another factor that i found is that there are some of these sites in four to eight years of age their comparatively small that. They're not as huge as you might think that you know some of the really really big sites just have kind of lost that ability to be quickly adaptive in. That's kind of hurt them so these newer kind of smaller sites boy. they just. They adapt very quickly. They changes they need to. And it's just become this huge model for success. So i'm really encouraged by you. Know what i've been seeing in the data. Because i i really see the that there's a lot of growth in and you know it's bringing out so many more people in and a lot of people on this list. That's what they do. They really kind of introduced barbecue to a whole new group of people which just makes a bigger pie for the rest of us. It just grows the table. We just get more and more people coming in so that we all kind of have a potentially better audience space And you know that's just I think it's great and you know just to to say it when running all the data running analytics and kind of confirmed across every single platform. Suzy bollocks hey girl hey is the most popular barbecue site in the world. And it's kind of easy to see why She has really capitalized on on search terms. And all that sort of stuff. But when i mean her facebook group is about her facebook overall. Eating is about the yeah. It's you know in a huge numbers or instagram. Following is gigantic her pinterest. I think if she told me she was quitting they would send someone by to ask why she has so much engagement. And that's and that's really the key here is when you know it's like al qaeda and now you've got a lot of followers on facebook. Gotta follow her on twitter. Youtube is anyone engaging in her engagement. Numbers are just through the roof. People just jump in there. They comment on everything. They like everything. They share everything. And so it's just become self generating traffic engine. That's just it's just. It's so impressive. it's just absolutely amazing to just look at of the popular websites that you list out. Do you touch base with any of them to say. Hey i'm putting this list together. Here's data that i have found through alas alexa. Sem rush blah blah blah. Do you have anything that you can also generate to me. Whether using google the google analytics is the Thing to go to. If i'm not mistaken but are they well giving you some of their own. Raw data in the ways that you're searching out their popularity like within those timeframes that you're doing well meyer. My initial data was collected from subscription services. I used free tools to demonstrate how you can get that information yourself how you can kind of go in and look at the tracking a lot of people who run websites. Kind of don't necessarily know what tools they can get for for free. It gives you know some good things to point to I did not go to the people on the list. Because i didn't want to to bias the results and i didn't want i mean yeah. Google analytics is is the tool. The everyone pretty much. Everyone uses to measure their own web traffic and gather all that It has its own margin of error which is relatively small. But if i was in a situation of saying. Hey here's what i think your numbers are. They would either. It's you know. I i can't sit there. And say hey. Give me your analytics password. So i can go on and look myself. And i don't want to be in a situation of someone coming back and going. Well i can cherry pick data or i can. I can fudge it. I can just send some shrink shots and say oh look at this. This is this is in you. Know what my numbers actually so that would have created a problem in. The transmitter is pretty much everybody. That's on this list is already me. I've had a lot of. Hey this is great. You know. I love the. It's it's great to see somebody who can kind of come back. You know understand how as metrics analytics work and a you know this is of course we are to kind of knew this so you know thanks for putting out in the public space because you know most people don't want to sit there and talk about your in lenox it's like you know going into the grocery store and randomly telling people about your salary or your taxes and stuff. It's not the sort of thing that most people really want to kind of share plus that data you know as it refines down can become very revealing about halley police kind of traffic dirk richards joining me here on the shell. The derek riches dot com and of course his his picks for the barbecue hall of fame. Which have no bearing on what the actual results will be tomorrow at three pm. Rodney scott albert listening obligate. Right and again. Find eric dirk riches dot com and you can find him right here on the fourth tuesday in the first hour of every month. Eric always appreciate the time. And we will see you in jiu. Oh an answer to your question that you didn't ask about walk. I is this. A hawk is a sandwich it has catch on it then. It's an abomination. What about boiled hotdogs versus grilled broiled ear. No boil the water boiled in water. Now no no about a eight or nine minutes simmer in water not boil. Make any difference. That's what i grew up with. And i don't want to go back to my childhood. And why is it a sandwich holding ketchup aside. Why is it a sandwich. Why isn't it just a hot dog. Meat and bread is a burger sandwich. I don't know. I look there was a quite a fascinating conversation. Diva cues clubhouse. Last week about is dog sandwich. Of course me being the dick said. I think we need to figure out. Forget about this. Is it a sandwich. you're not. I think we need to define what is a sandwich and then we can apply what we know a sandwich to be to then decide if hotdog is indeed a sandwich or if it's own thing now ninety nine percent of people said hot dog is its own thing. I believe i was a persecuted saying that. I was man's blaming something analyzed. All i'm doing is trying to figure out what the criteria of sandwiches. So then i can go. But nobody had that definition readily available so know. Just the man's planer as always. It's one of the great mysteries of our time. That's right all right so it is a sandwich for dirk riches sands catch up otherwise. It is an abomination derek. Always appreciate the time my friend. Thanks for having me on. A month is derek. Riches enriches dot com. I am inclined to say that whether you like it or not. a hot dog is a sandwich dislike. I would say a hamburger is a sandwich because there's bread involved which makes it a sandwich. I can also see the other side of the argument which leads to continue to say. We need to figure out what the hell sandwiches. Which is. i know who can do that. Robert moss can do it. He'll be able to tell us what sandwiches and the next time he comes on. We'll put this baby to bed one way or the other and once and for all if you would like to say that way i would say right before we get it over and wrap up the first hour. Coming up in about twelve minutes from now it's the second Tuesday of a brand new month, and of course that means a visit from the guy that is created the most heavily traffic barbecue and grilling websites so much so that it earned him a return trip to the twenty twenty Barbecue Hall of fame. semi-final names list. And a guy who has been appearing on this show for a decade, perhaps even more. I think even more now that I. Recollect quickly in my head, perhaps his first year of appearance on any form of this show cause remember all the way back in the beginning. This was a podcast in its very essence. A prerecorded. Long form interview that was then edited down and released once per week. I think meet had made his debut appearance in what would have been the two thousand and seven Barbecue Ribs Roundtable. Maybe it was even a little earlier than that, so ben around the show as long pretty much as long as it has been going in whatever form, it's been going in meathead from amazing ribs dot. COM will join US father's day coming up here shortly. We also have some hall of fame stuff to talk about we also. Also have a number of other items to talk about answering your questions as well so feel free to email in and call in. These are things that I can do. It's a real show like a real radio show where you could call in and ask an expert question or ask an expert guest questions. If you want, have a mansard right here on the show, and then it's also being recorded, so it will be able to be listened to tomorrow and Friday and ten years from now on and on. Through perpetuity as we said last week. So. That's the first hour as usual that will move into the second hour. A guy who has been perhaps a three year span since last. He has graced the Internet airwaves. The Guy who was widely. Credited with being the Barbecue TV master. Exposing millions upon millions, perhaps a generation of folks sparking their interest in barbecue grilling. Competition Barbecue and all things in between an emmy. Award winning TV producer after the list goes on and on and friend of this show. Jon Marcus reappearing in the second. Hour Toledo. Very much looking forward to catching up with John. On this show, and then thirty five past the hour, or as we call the bullpen segment, longtime sponsor of the show host of the butcher barbecue podcast creator of the butcher, barbecue products line, and the wild seasonings product line. Dave will be joining me because guess what folks. Case you missed it. They boss coming out with a brand new product that will be talking about. We'll also chat up a little bit on how the first thirty one episodes of the podcast have been going. and Dave promises the sound, absolutely magnificent tonight, because as a host of podcast, there's really no excuse for having bad audio when you come on the show. If you have your now, certainly, there's perhaps more than a few exceptions to the rule that. If I had a a podcast host on that, their audio would be substantially lacking, but I know Dave's audio is great on his show. That will translate here onto the show. I think the last time he was on. He had the equipment on, and he sounded great so. At very least. Barring content fidelity will be top shelf. And sometimes that's all you can ask for, but Dave always brings the content strong, so I'm absolutely thrilled to have him back on to talk about a new product launch always loved to get the inner workings ideas of why this particular product. Designed to see the light of day versus keeping it to himself. But as we long no Davis. Ben Introducing products for the market right along ones that he is tried on the competition circuit. Folks have asked about the he is constantly refining in creating, and we got one ready to talk about this evening, so they're show, meet headfirst. Our Jon Marcus and Dave Bosca in the second hour. Tell all your friends and neighbors. The show was on. Do it socially and tell them the follow me while you're at it at bbq central show on Instagram, twitter and snapchat and tick tock slash bbq central share on facebook where you're getting the video feed as well. Once again as I reference the video feed for quite a substantial amount of time, we were simulcasting to both the facebook video platform and the Youtube Platform if you missed last week, this is the only time I'm going to repeated especially if you're only alive listener and you missed it. You're not on Youtube I know. We're not going to youtube anymore. The Roi is not there for the band with that I'm using to get there, so we are recording at the same time as we're going live to facebook, so I will get that video and it will be up on Youtube tomorrow. I did a well researched test. This past week garnered the same amount of us after the fact that. That, I did live had solid connections all the way through the show last week. That's all I care about the solid connections. And how good are we sounding? and Are we having dropouts? Because the more people were adding in the more band with reusing and as we've learned here in Wickliffe? It's as fast as I'm going to get, and there are zero plans for adding. Quicker. Internet speeds here for whatever. We are not here to be progressive. We're here to stay put in Wickliffe and all forms and fashions, especially the internet speeds. I'm as high as it's going to get right now so I have to conserve where I need to. Also I do WANNA mention this. As an early birthday present longest running embedded correspondent from Texas Doug Shoddy sends me this. And whatever seen this? This is called grill loss so as you can see right here. There's a little a half circle right here. That's GONNA fit over the grill. Great individual bars, and you're GONNA be able to scrape off and you can obviously work all the way around. And really get a good cleaning. It did come so you can see right here. There's a screw this is ends up being a commercial grill flaws, but they're not affiliated with the show. I'm just giving my thanks and praise to Doug Shining this little. What what is? Phillips. comes. It will remove this particular one, and there's a whole different size, and by the way there's a an additional size the hidden in the sleeve or it's talked in. So there's up to four different size bars that can accommodate and. Barbecue briskly journalists Derek. Richard would highly approve of this because there are no bristles. Pardon the Pun to snap off on this so while there might be a little bit more time investment here to go through each bar. We can guarantee our safety and our guest safety and our family safety, because there are no items that will break an this thing breaks off and lands on the grill I'm going to see that. If it's laying in my steak. I will see it. So. This is also one of the items that could be used to replace as you can see just. Glide right over the bars, taking away all your grease and grime and nastiness. A Doug is assured me that they will absolutely clean pristine. Your grill rates so especially. If you're GonNa, do, pictures. Through some of the social media that you people like to do, it's great now. Let me ask you this before we get to the first break. The creator of the most heavily traffic barbecue and grilling website and less trafficked hairline meathead from amazing ribs dot com. Why we would look you have going on, meet it, you know it was time for a haircut and I just got out the beard trimmer and went crazy. You did that yourself I did it myself. Oh look at you. What does your wife think I mean? That's the most important in cut. Yeah, she seems to like it. You know she seems to like. What does that mean? Oh, she says she likes it. knows. Or what do you think you like it? I like not having to fuss with hair young. it's a little weird. I feel breezes behind my ears, but. Don't look like What everybody thinks that look like anymore well. Here's the good news and somebody who for many years had toyed with the idea of doing exactly what you did. Alternately I've done it any number of times, but there were at least three years where I was like I'm going to do. I'm going to do, and then I was like. What if I do it and I have craters and valleys and Mike you've seen some dudes have great hair, and then they shave it off and Oh. My God, it's a train wreck underneath and nothing you can do about it. I mean it is what it is, but. It is a a little bit of testicular fortitude to actually get the blades on the hair, and then take it down to see what's there now. Luckily, my head was very round, and there were no Mars landing strips, or anything like that, and as I quickly review. You have quite a nice round on not unattractive head so very good. It's very nice I like Greg. I don't know how to take a comment about the shape of my head from a fellow male. We'll take it. Take it as a strong Vero man. Meeting this. We're talking like men here for trying out, but. I I. I had a flat top all through high school I was on the swim team and played football. So this was the jock look, so I'm back to my Jack. Walker well need heads going to be trying out for the Chicago bears this season as well. He's got his hair right after locker. That's right that's. Locker look ask there. You go so We got a bunch of different stuff here to talk about this evening. MEATHEAD and Not The least of which is a great revelation much, perhaps he or Chagrin, but last or two weeks ago I guess it was Emily Park was back on my show as we were unveiling exclusively, the twenty twenty Barbecue Hall of fame and it ends up being a cosy corners disarray, Robinson earn Franklin from Franklin, Barbecue and Joe John Davidson or Oklahoma Joe or Jo Davidson, or however you know him, and look at as we looked through the listen i. I think we had had off air discussions because the last time you're on, I think the next day we were GONNA be unveiling the list of semifinalists, so we didn't get a chance to chat about a bone. You look up and down that list of semi-finalists. That is a very strong list of names. If I could argue one and I probably wouldn't even bother making that argument, but at least eight out of the nine were very very strong. Yeah I felt the same way as I studied the list and I think i. told you this. I told others. I thought I was number four on that list and they since they only induct three that left me out, and that's what happened. I don't know whether I was number four or number five but You know the three who were selected. Clearly very strong. And there were others who didn't get selected light Jon Marcus, whom you've got coming up in the second hour, Darren War who is absolutely the Best Competition Cook I've ever tasted announced. That was also on that list. Rodney. Scott a man renowned for a whole hog doing an old school also very deserving. Power Strong Lisk next year, if those same names come back, and a lot of people came in this year had been nominated last year like desharnais and Aaron. They had both been nominated last year. WAS I. If those names come back this year. Maybe I'll have a better chance. You know I would be honored. It would I won't be. I won't be falsely modest in say I really would love to be inducted, but. It'll as they say how he would. It's an honor to be nominated right two years in a row. You jokingly called me. The Susan Lucci of Barbecue for those who don't know. Susan Lucci, the a daytime TV star who got nominated for? Eleven Times right or twelve title before she finally got through. You know you could be a good running joke if I get nominated. Don't make it again next year. It's an honor to be nominated. I know who I am Our readers know who I am and I. Don't need outside verification that what we do is good for the. Good for barbecue and good for our readers. I wonder though meet had if I might have caused you. Any undue store flood heard any. Extra hope in the fact that I had taken a very unscientific poll with my embedded correspondents the night before where we really dug through the Benicia of who we thought was going to get in now, of course as we review the tape, we were one third correct and two thirds incorrect edge, man's more dumb and smart, but we figured that with the amount of people that you have touched and the amount of people that come out of the woodwork or when I meet people on the street. They know amazed if they don't know you specifically. They know amazing ribs dot com. They have seen the returns on Google. They have been on the website. Maybe they're members of that pit Master Club it is a it is a landscape that has touched literally millions upon millions over the years that you have done it so I thought I was very. I thought my bets were pretty good. Playing with House. Money that meet had that it could have been a year where the second year nominees who were repeat all got in you and Erin and Desharnais but Unfortunately, it was two thirds of that. Because what the hell you know, I'm not much, but we knew that for a long time. Let's be. You even I. Think suggested that I get a watch. Show together and I declined. I had a feeling. I was not gonNA. Make it this year. I like my odds for next year but I. You know I I'm just GonNa keep doing what I do. When I got really good grades in high school and College I thought I was going to go out. I was going to change the world I was going to be You know. Maybe it'd be president or something wrong. But you know when I got out of. High, school and I got into college. I found I was just an average Joe and I was not going to change the world, and when I got the workforce and I started working and I did a bunch of things. I realized that I was just going to be another guy I and then. Back around the year two, thousand, three, four or five. I forget what it was. I started this barbecue website and it took off and. Something has happened. I have discovered that really are changing world your people writing every day and say. I got laid last night because if you. I? Get emails saying. Come home from work. The kids say mom can dad cooked tonight? We have helped so many people learn to cook I was just exchanging e mail art comments with a few of the people watching. Somebody said that they were going to do the pastrami recipe. Somebody else chimed in and said it's great, maybe the best recipe the website. that recipe is just killer They're just good recipes so much good technique so much. We've taught four million people a month. Under that website and they bit, and that number has been fairly steady for two or three years now ups and downs. It's just millions of people millions of people, but when you look at the hall of fame. The current hall of fame as it stands, there's twenty two living members. Most of them are restaurateurs. Competition Cooks, a few who are authors, the only one who is primarily an author, which is what really I am a writer photographer recipe developed, or is Steven Reich land. So it is not something that leans in my direction, and that's okay. I know what I do is good and I'm happy to continue doing it. MEATHEAD FROM AMAZING RIBS DOT COM joining us here on the show, as were doing a little bit of recap on the Barbecue Hall of fame, so we'll see what happens next year was fun for my side getting to unveil semi-finalist this year which we didn't get to do past year, so we added. That was very ero-. You get the honor of announcing the nominees and then the honor of announcing. The winners. I mean all right. Let's talk about next year's hall of fame. Who should be the nominees well? Let's start with the ones this year. Who didn't make it and then let's extend to Greg. Rodney Scott who didn't make Jon Marcus who didn't make it. How about Daniel von, who's on the selection committee, but Daniel on certainly should be considered the only fulltime a barbecue. In the world for a major magazine or newspaper Texas monthly has books. Phenomenal knowledge and expertise influenced so many people absolutely should be there. What about Amy Mills? Her Dad? Mike is There for his restaurant, but amiens running a barbecue school now teaching restaurateurs Sterling Ball one of your ads sponsors. You know from big POPPA. The Big Papa. Smokers. By the way you were plugging his Maqutu Star I've got a Mac to star and I love it. and I bought it from Sterling. So I mean you know there's all kinds really talented people out there that should be in and I. You know I would include you among them. Let me ask you something though. We get to a point now so. The inherent problem with the Barbecue Hall and I want to get into the weeds here because we got other things to talk about, but the inherent problems doesn't really interest anybody out there, but you and me right, we're. We're satisfying ourselves here. So. Let's just keep keep doing that just for a minute. Keep doing that just for about you know the problem is that. There wasn't in the beginning a huge induction of folks from the past that deserve to be in so you create a big initial base of entrance. So, they're trying to piece it forward air by. Adding categories now we're going to eight categories out now. We're going to add this now. We're GONNA. We're GONNA put this many people in. It always feels like. Yeah, but it always feels like there's always going to be a tremendous amount of ketchup to do before you really get into like a nfl hall of fame or a Major League Baseball Hall of fame until that gap is somehow corrected, and I don't know if it were ever be I think there will always be some kind of a vacillating situation or consternation about the Barbecue Hall of fame until that really. Yeah I. Think they're doing it right I think I'm not saying they're not doing it right I'm just saying that the way that it is existing. There is a gap of however many Hundred Years of folks that are deserving to go in. The Hall of famous people who've really been important. There's probably no more than other Tanner fifteen people out there. The. Orbit Rbq me. You gotTA. Be Kidding me. You know I mean all right. We just lost. Heke here in Chicago. been around for what thirty forty years up in Evanston one of the oldest barbecue joints in Illinois beloved. had a tremendous impact influence charity pillar of the community. But he had one restaurant. And, the barbecue was okay wasn't great. Does he make hall of fame? they have this new one of the things they did this year. That I think was significantly important and improvement was they added the legacy carry category right, so the inducted three living members and two deceased the and so they they inducted. A couple of important people who are gone. I don't know I don't know how I mean. I suppose we could sit down to make a list, but it's not gonna go on forever. I don't know that it is I think I would to see them in duck more than three because I think, there are a lot of deserving people out there, but. I think they're on a good flight tests. Beat had joining us here on the show, so we have father's day coming up and certainly there's nobody better to talk to about cool gadgets in fact. while. It's not a night. It wasn't gone right against your. This is my. Grill flaw, so you can see it right there and they. got a competitor for it I. Have One of those two by the way. I have I haven't growth loss and I like it a lot. It's very easy to reach the the key. Here is if you're cleaning your grill. And your grades, You WanNa clean both the top and bottom. Obviously the top which is in contact with the food. You don't want a lot of Greece there and you don't want a lot of carbon there because the carbon will make the food stick, but Greece gets on the underside and a lot of people. They fire up their grill whether it's gas grill or a smoker, and there's big cloud of smoke and a lot of it is really just the grease burning us smoke is not as good tasting as woods well believe me I'm you don't want that Greece underneath? And so the growth loss and the charge on this is a competitor for the growth loss I like the charge on a little better I have both I use them both. But basically you can see, it's got this little C. Shape, and that allows it discreet both top and bottom. The downside of it is is it's one wire right? Who are? So. You're standing air, scraping and scrape know the wire bristle brush still is so convenient and easy, and I get where people are going when they say. Banned the bristle brush because it's a potential hazard. If you watch what you're doing if you can't if you buy a good one, and if you what you do it in your careful, it's not such a hazard, but that means an awful lot of people who don't watch what they're doing. Don't know what they're doing. Don't know about the hazard can get sick. Do you think that there is a time when that particular accessory will be banned? Banned or enough people and or manufacturers or big companies would say you know what you people should stop making that and we're going to poop on you until that happens, or do you think that most people think it's a good idea? But in the end they'll go by four dollars grill brush and take the risk because it's cheap, and we're lays Nellie banned the day after they ban cigarettes. Great, so they're never going to get banned. Cigarettes are delicious I mean doesn't. Everybody loves cigarettes. There's there's an awful lot of. Consumer, products out there. That are dangerous and risky, and the because your product Safety Commission and the Federal Trade Commission all these guys. On the lookout for. I don't maybe they will ban them. I'm not a lot of people are. Hurt by them, probably a lot more people were hurt by under-cooked chicken. I don't foresee chicken being banned. I know maybe just one of those things we're going to have to educate, but I do I, do like these products and I think that we should do our best to promote them and tell people about the I think there's an education job to be done. We have to warn people about bristle brushes, and and and especially the cheap ones and there, but there are other ones that like the single wire that's spun spun spun, and that's not going to break, maybe doesn't last as long, but it an easy way to make sure that you don't end up with one in your tongue or one in your small intestine or sticking out of your colon or over the altered my. Bent got one of the. All send him to me. I've got beat and frankly the the ones I like the best or the good old fashioned bristle brushes But. They're really well built. There were angered the ones that are into molded plastic. Scraper on top and you know I can just go. And the top of my grades are all cleaned, flip over the undersides, all clean and I'm up and running. The other thing I do and this is. This is a good move. A lot of people don't is I have a roll of paper towels nearby and I'll take a roll of paper towels, folding up and lamb on top of the girl great and put that brush on top and push paper towels across, because no matter much, you scraped with that bristle brush. They're still Greece left behind. Greece doesn't taste good. Get rid of it US I always. Run a paper towel across the surface. What other cool gifts you have for father's Day coming up that you wanNA, tell. You you don't you said to me? You want to talk about gifts for Father's Day and you immediately cut me off at the knees. You said no thermometers well, but we know about that. That's Christmas. We talk about thermometers and Labor Day we. I have to raise it again because there's just a lot of macho guys out there is a need no stinking thermometers, and or they like to slice open their steaks and look at the color which you can't tell from. You just need. And well I mean we're talking about gifts, so give it to your uncle or your buddy. Who doesn't know about the Monitor's because no single thing will make you a better cook faster than a good thermometer, and that would be a meat, thermometer or an oven, thermometer or one. That does both and. That would always be my first choice. There's a lot of other fun things like I have those really heavy duty. Wilders gloves will other Shan. Yes. And just tonight I had to use them I. I was doing some. Cornish Game Hen Haves and they. They were the skin was. Beautiful and golden and the Interior temp was still fifteen twenty degrees low, and I just wasn't going to bring him in because under-cooked chicken, his hazardous, but I didn't want them down near the fire where they scan in the underside would continue to blackened, so I pulled them up and put them on the overhead rack. But, dammit the overhead rack was really up high, and it was hitting the Rotisserie Bird, so I got those, and it was hot in that grow I got those leather welder shammy gloves and reached in there and grabbed, and this was a thick, heavy daddy, stainless steel great, and picked it up and dropped it into a lower position, never felt the heat at all man. Those things you can pick up briquettes, you can pick up logs. They are just fantastic I have to pair one of which is. Filthy and I use it for filthy things in the other would other pair of which are fairly clean, and you know every now, and then when they get really disgusting I, just walk inside, go to the kitchen, sink pumps, and the dishwasher liquid on it. Our dish liquid on and just wash them like I would wash my hands. Those things are fantastic and They're not terribly expensive in there. They make great gifts. They sure do We're talking with meathead from amazing. Ribs Dot Com all right hang on one second here head while we talk about South side market and Barbecue and then we'll come back and finish up with some of the father's day gifts, and all the other cool stuff that we're GONNA be talking about here. We'll be right back. Howard stirred Jim. Rome Tan Patrick and ran. The Mountain Rushmore of talk show entertainment. Let's get back to the barbecues central. All right cooking pallets is bringing you the segment, so if you're looking for great quality wood pallets for all your fellow driven cookers go over to could pellets dot com and purchase their great flavors. And the straight information on wood pellets ever have any questions. Just e mail Chris Becker. Answer everything for you honestly and truthfully. Amazon.com sells them as well. Thanks for hanging with me through the break. Did. You have something to say, I look like you I can throw out there if you WANNA play the. Day Gift Guide right, let's go. All right here. This is a fun one. There's there's a pair of tongs out there that I stumbled into on Amazon. They're. The handles maybe twelve inches long. But the end of them. Are How to describe. It looked like a platypus spill. They have a flipper. That basically they're big enough to completely engulf a hamburger or a filet of fish. And Fish in particularly in how that falls apart. And most bachelors so basically. Tongues with two spatulas on either side that you can clamp down on a fish or a burger flipped their stainless steel. I don't remember the manufacturer. Just go to amazing RIBS DOT COM and look up Burger Flippers. They're very inexpensive and they're really work great for Burgers and and fish. I'm really fond of those guys. Something else I think is pretty cool. Idea is there is. Outfit I think they're out of Florida. That makes a hinge kit for Weber Kettles and Weber Smoky. Mountains unknown barbecue is the name of the company that makes Sagan Unknown Barbecue. Barbecue Yep. Well they're not unknown. They're they're make these. Are Really well designed and well built. and. You know you've got to put a couple of holes in the LYOD and the unit, but you won't regret it because it just paying with both devices that you can't hinge the lids. And the cool thing is avacado pin so you can pull the pin and you can remove the hood if you want to. And they're they're not. They're not cheap. They're like seventy bucks or something, but they're really built to last, and they're really makes both the Weber Kettle and the Weber smokey mountain a lot. The problem is. Is the. Cover from my spoke man. I can't fit it over there anymore. because they hinge sticks out so far and buy new cover. They also make us. Oh, for the folks that have pit barrel cookers. They make one that would fit barrel cook anything that pretty much has a lid anymore. They I make him for Weber Kettles and the Smoky Mountains and the pit barrel cookers. And Look I'm I'm unhandy as it comes I think it's been well proven during the life of this show i. put the holes in my pit barrel cooker. I followed the directions that were very easy, and that thing made all the difference I mean. Certainly it's not necessarily that big of a pain to take the top of the pit burial and hang on the horseshoe handle. That's on the pit barrel, but just to lift up boom in locks in place. You don't have to worry about it and lift lifted backup. Put it right in place. It is a it's a great seventy bucks, and again for a gift and pretty cheap and the efficiency and effectiveness that it delivers second. Here's another one long. We're talking about Weber Kettle. It's not unknown Major. I would wager most. Your audience has heard of the slow in here, but it's a insert for the. WHEREVER CATTLE And what it does is Corrales all your charcoal into a small area, and then a water dam between your charcoal and the rest of the. the cooker space, and it really helps you set up. A two-zone now you can do this with a couple of bricks, but it's not as good and that water dam is one of the secrets. Water of course is really good way to buffer heat, but moisture in the atmosphere. condenses on cold me. And! And, even if you're meat is warming, it's not as hot as the air inside your cooking up to twenty five and up. Your meat is not to twenty-five I guarantee. So, the water will condense on the meat that cools. The meat slows the cooking. ADDS a little bit of moisture, but just as important. Is that smoke particles stick to wet surfaces? So you've got a device that pushes all the charcoal off to one side makes your. Weber kettle into a really good two-zone smoker, and it also raises the charcoal up. So if you want, see or something, you can lay the charcoal right over that I mean lay the meat right over that charcoal, which is just below the meat, and get an unbelievable Sierra on a steak or a burger or chop, so that's why they call it slow and here and they make a bunch of other accessories. They make a rack that sits on top of the great. That's a nice thing. They, make any drip pan. The slow in people have got going. All right anything else for father's Day or is that a good enough list to get people go one more item. I'll throw out there at the high end. If if you WANNA spend three hundred three hundred fifty bucks. Something that's really hot right now in. The big box hardware stores and then Walmart is flattop grills. flattop grills are flying out the door. I've heard some confidential numbers from blackstone. Who is the leader in the game and they're busy. Millions of them flying out the door at hundred bucks. These, things work they. They let you cook like you would see a short order. Cook in Jos. Jos Grill. You can do your scrambled eggs your. pancakes year French. Fries, your caramelized onions. Home fries. Shrimp. A scallops Whatever you WANNA see her steak and they get dern hot, and you have the better ones have. Pretty good propane control, and it's just a flat. Metal surface it's. Not Cast Iron. but It really works, and it's a lot of fun. There, there are some smaller ones are great for camping, but if you are into the outdoor cooking and you've got a gas grill, you gotTa Charcoal Grill. You gotta smoker now you need. Grill, All right, so that's in the three hundred fifty dollar range, you said. I! It's three twenty nine. Around there all right so check that out as well sure, most of the stuff is listed over meet heads website. As well meet had is at amazing ribs, DOT com. That's the website, but yet go ahead. Let me just point out you say listed over RS website I just want to point out anybody who's listening is not from there. We test. We Review we rate. We linked to wear to buy it, but we don't sell anything right. You're not a retail. Now we don't sell anything except membership on our pitmasters club otherwise I don't even sell my own book. You gotTA. Go to Amazon get there, you go. Which? I see it right over your right shoulder. That's the best our from what I understand. One of the best ever written top ten books ever written right Burr. Thank you the other thing I wanted to ask you about this evening. I'm going to be having Jon. Marcus on here in just a few short minutes I think we both widely agree that he is somebody that has exposed many millions of people into or at least inspiring them into getting into some form or fashion of live fire, grilling industry and tonight. I don't know if you're aware, but there was a first attempt at a pay per view barbecue contests. Did you know anything about this? And well I just found out about it and flipping through twitter today I saw Ray lampy site and I saw on twitter feed coupla others talking about this fight club, and then when I log in. Your listeners were talking about it, and the comments and I'm still not clear as to what it's all about I'm interested in hearing more sounds like it's a competition pay per view very interesting concept. I don't know how many people are willing to pay to watch competition barbecue, but if they show was a little more than what your typical TV show is showing us, it might be worthwhile and hey, listen. You mentioned John, I'm a huge fan of John Marcus I met him when the first pitmasters. Came on TV I was doing a weekly review for the Huffington. Post I reviewed every week. They were great fun. And John is one of the most remarkable people in the barbecue community. He is truly a man for all seasons erudite. Well read. Did you know he's a playwright? Did I, of course I know. He wrote a fabulous tones for crying out loud. Yet I actually purchased a script to the liposomes which you can read and forty five minutes It's a fun fun play. he's written a couple of other places. You know of people who know of in know that he was. He won an emmy for his job as a writer on the bill cosby show. And Just you know. Coal creators. He was co-creator of a different world. You remember that that was a spin off of the cosby show. That was wildly successful. The Lisa Bonet a I think Marisa Tomei. A younger Theresa Marisa Tomei was in that as well. I mean that's a big deal. Just those things are. Huge he's. He's very very knowledgeable, very experienced. and. His expertise goes way beyond barbecue into all matters food literature. Truly. Unlike anybody else I. Know the Barbecue World. So to get back to the fight club, so it was a nine dollars. Ninety nine cents get down for this evening now yesterday to entice you at six PM. Eastern. They had a let's call round table outside and some secret undisclosed location I know exactly where it is by the way but. They had they had the guy from smoking hogs, Massachusetts Bill Gillespie the pitmasters from nine one three Barbecue Darren war is competing. Of course, Tim. Sheer is over there. Luke Darnell from old Virginia Smoke Kelly words from four legs of Barbecue I believe that was rounding out the competition, so they had these six folks going up against each other and what I'm trying to ascertain is. How much was show I? Mean Look I'm no idiot here. I know how a barbecue competition runs, and if you're starting out from the beginning, which I doubt they were. I mean what are we looking at at a minimum time commitment of five hours or six hours, so there's no way they showed a barbecue competition starting at six o'clock tonight, and it's already over so that there had to have been some or a bunch of prerecorded offer. Maybe they were cooking during the day today, and they were making packages, and then filtering in some live stuff at six. o'clock I'm not sure exactly how it work. Work, because I can't as much as I like because your guy. Day Neil over there in Chicago was one of the big operating partners in this I think he put the deal together with fight. TV in order to get this off the ground. He's in the motor sports to, and that's part of the show that he has over there on wgn and when he was on last week talking about it, I thought I dug the concept. But what I keep going back to back me up on this. Muda Barbecue people are inherently cheap fast, and for them to squeeze ten dollars out for something that they don't perceive what would be two hundred dollars worth of valid I mean that's a hard sell. And then it's competition barbecue on top of it five years ago six years ago, I could see it being a little bit more general, Public Fascinating, but at twenty twenty. And I get that still a lot of people are trapped then there's yearnings for every kind of entertainment to keep us Keep the idle hands going, but I don't know if I saw you know more than a few people paying some money I. Mean I want to know what the business of being here. Well let me let me. Reflect upon what little I know, yes. There is a there's probably five thousand people in this country who are really into barbecue competition yeah. So. My instincts are as that would be their corner their core market because. Now, I don't compete, and I don't judge anymore because I just don't like sitting in a tent for the whole day. But I go to competition every now and then when I do I, know some of the cooks and I like to visit with them, and they trust me. They know I'm not going to share all their secrets and blow their cover and I get to taste of the food now. You mentioned Darren War Than I. He was nominated this year for the hall. Darren is the single best competition cook. I've encountered. I've tasted all of his meets for KCBS. Competition more than one year and they're just unbelievable. There's nothing there that comes anywhere cloth. Nothing I cook comes anywhere close to what he could. Now if I knew I could watch this show. And get his secrets I'd pay ninety five. But I don't know if he'd be willing to do that because as much as he and I, we get along. He and I his wife, Sherry. I I'm bringing them. Wine I brought her flowers last time I saw are. We sit around. We shared drinks and there are some things that he just hasn't shown me yet. And I haven't asked to be allowed to see them. You Know I. Don't know if that's GONNA. Be It now if I knew that the deep dark secrets are going to be revealed in for nine ninety five. Whether they're doing that or not I don't know I'll say this. It's interesting. I didn't hear about it at all. Until yesterday. I Know Day Neil I've been a guest on his show here in Chicago wd end. I know most of the folks you've mentioned. If. I'm trying to promote a pay per view show for ten bucks yeah. The first thing I would do would ask me head to promote it. For Christ's sake, we just the barbecues stars series, which sold for two hundred ninety seven dollars. We promoted it and soul, six or eight hundred tickets at three hundred bucks, so if they had come to me and said, would you? You know here's? What's all involved I? Don't have to be invited I. Don't have to Cook. I don't have to observe that at least. Say something about it on your site in social media. I probably could have sold a bunch of tickets for him. Yeah, well, I'll be interested to see also what the was on the actual technical side of things, and maybe people are a lot more forgiving, but it. Is Internet based I. Know where they were and I'm not necessarily thinking that there's a tremendous amount of infrastructure out there, but maybe I'm wrong and you know audio video. And how did it work to and? To enhance or detract from a ten dollar buying experience. I guess I'll be revealed. GotTa have. You know I mean you have taken this show and fine tune. The production value talked earlier about the quality of Audio I. Mean you've got production values down? Pat With the exception of your blue fringed air. Hard on that. I know and you're going to have to start dying it But The production various crucial. Do a lot of video at amazing ribs. Dot Com because I just won't do crap. Ola Hand held. Camera Video. If that's what this show is, and it certainly not gonna fly. They have got to do what I mean. If they didn't get Jon Marcus, involved in in in doing it, they missed an opportunity because he knows production values, so I don't know who's directing and producing and what's going on. Be Interesting to find out. I now that I know a little more about it I might go out and spend ten bucks and try to watch all right, so we'll see how it goes. In the meantime you could find meet head on the second Tuesday of the month right here in the first hour, and every other minute after that at amazing ribs dot com meet had always appreciate the time, and we will look for you again in July. and. And centralized and we'll see you in a month. Happy Father's Day everyone. Right there from amazing ribs dot com. Of course, everybody's lovely beaten. Let's see. If, we could do. We'll be back to wrap up the show first hour after. I tell you about pits and spits. It was sponsor of the show since one thousand, nine hundred eighty three pan, crafting smokers and grills in Houston Texas. Established itself is one of the brands and high quality offsets more recently pellet cookers. Set themselves apart by using heavy seven and ten gauge steel in every cooker fully welded construction that you can feel when you use the unit and the three or four stainless rolltop. Lynn Front Shelf on every single cooker. So why does it matter? Well by using higher quality, materials, pits and SPITS, smokers reach and maintain temperatures, allowing you to worry more about the meat than the heat. They provide fully welded. Smokers don't have to worry about Greece and smoke leaking out of the barrel for about the grill, rattling apart as moving through the yard. When you move it around because you know you're going to do that and by using the three or four stainless steel. You're getting a heirloom quality product that will be able to be passed down to your kids. Now where some companies are focusing on low cost provider, ship hits and spits focuses on craftsmanship and using quality materials. Are they cheaper ways of manufacturing product sure? But. They don't tak well. Cheap. CIA is cheap, stainless electronic, the can't trust or not about that having in house, manufacturing gives them complete control the design standards. That's not something you find a product that are brought in from overseas steel suppliers supply materials to be used in some of the harshest environments around, so they performed any condition anywhere. The controllers are made right here in the United States, so they're able to use a PD transparency into the program. Pits and spit Pity Spitz has a dealer network across the country, but there isn't one close to. Jason i have conquered the kindred and now we meander our way towards our next adventure. Welcome to the yarn wall. Where all of our dreams become realities and all realities slide into our nightmares. Cue the music and three to one already forgot it per insane. That's the match made in a bathroom floating into the void. What today might be a real loose episode. Oh we're talking about brand muffins and lacks it is real loose really really strong. Black coffee man. I know exactly what you're talking about. That's what this episode is going to be safe to take a shower after we try to forget about it. The do we apologize now. Apologize at the end we ten. You'd apologize threw out. Let us know if we've offended you. Yeah we have yet to have really any email saying that. We've been offensive and i'm thinking we need to turn it up a little bit because anything i'll take anything at this point i just wanna interact with some people even if it is negative. You know what i mean. I know exactly what you mean We're just in a island of were adrift. On the internet. Peaking of being adrift Was looking at david allen brooks and we need to talk about a few people from the kindred but okay i did not bring up david allen brooks the main guy john hollins well. He just seemed kind of a like kind of an empty suit. Kinda guy like he just was a guy Just some guy you know. Everybody looked like him back then. He was Dick peterson and castaway. So that was my segue as of his. Name's contain I mean i don't want to be tiled devout dick peterson. Somebody's idea of joke. I think at third grade rules. That's funny that kid would be mercilessly. He would just be savaged and middle school but he was also in manhunter. Yeah i i most queued that up just to see who he was. I think he's the guy that gets fucking super glued to the Wheelchair and set on fire. He's like a journalist or something. That was Freddy lounes okay. Leads lau. I saw an l. name and i so i don't know who this guy is. Stephen fucking lang is freddie lowndes. We've had this conversation before. It's just unbelievable is wild wild wacky stuff. I keep waiting here. It looks like i stephen lang. There still is an post production. The don't breathe sake. Will so i knew that that was going to happen. You know the girlfriend and manhunter is the girl from brazil. I don't know her. It's kim graced grease grease grease. Yeah i primarily know her from brazil. that's what i recognize her from. She's also on throw momma from the train. The i see that so do with that what you will. Oh shoes in chad. And i was just watching a scene from that the other day and thought that she was Virginia manson because she kind of looks like her. I mean i was mistaken. that's not even trivia. You can forget about all of this. That's what's good about our podcast. I think is that it's disposable. You'd have to keep it in your head if you don't want to you could be doing the most mundane tasks and cleaning toilet. I think would be probably and we're probably entertaining enough to keep you motivated to clean that toilet in their user bogery so go buy some elbow grease apply it. Oh my god now along doing is just like scrolling through man hunter yet mike man. Tom noonan so good in that. I had to get off because we could get stuck there for a while. Yep yep. I'm close it out if you did too i. I recommend dennis farina. Yes and brian cox's hannibal lecter. Well dennis farina. Didn't he play crawford. S yes all right since we're on the subject damn it just said we weren't going talk. We're not we are still not gonna talk about manhunter talking about. Let me talk about around. that's fine. I love that movie now. It's not necessarily about manhunter. I've been watching the tv series. Curry's okay heard about this and i none of. It's been good i i i hate to say. I hate to say that. I'm not impressed. It's really lackluster. They really are playing up her being scarred mentally from right jamie gum and that's the opposite of what happens in the novels and she becomes like a hard like angel of death. Kind of you know yummy. She's having dreams of death heads. Moths and it doesn't play well. No because even my wife was like well did. He didn't do anything to her. Did he was like no he. He took a shot at her. She killed him yeah. There's really no reason for her to be like haunted by that. I mean really. She was only well. I don't know the show. Does it happen immediately. After the events of silence of the lambs close a few years. Well our is. Just that's such a letdown from reading Hannibal yes because it starts out with her just being a real bad as she drives this like fucking souped up mustang and you know it opens on like a raid on a house. And she's like fucking blowing people away it all goes wrong and and she's the one that's kind of left like kind of holding the bag wench. Really she they make her out to be this like cold blooded killer but the fact was they just didn't plan the the raid very well anyway. It's she i her characters very interesting in the way she evolves dacha read it. Read a book. Y'all i haven't it in a long time but it's good it's gross but in this just idolo does just a run of the mill show. Really michael cutlets is in it. You'll know michael cutlets. He was He was in the walking dead. He was abraham but he was also an he was grosse pointe blank The one had the read the poem best his best role ever. Yeah is just shit. Faced drunk and martin's like trying not to like fucking kick his head office. I watched a bunch of Binney I wish i had watched before. I started this podcast. Because i can't pronounce his last name but I just know him as benny the jet. He's the he's the assassin that keeps popping up in the everywhere right below up the convenience store or kaieda's erc does his a spanish last name. I can't pronounce it. But he's got a bunch of fighting video you know. He's like a martial artists and like a billion times like golden glove guy from back in the day but a man. I've seen him in several things but anyway yeah. He was in everything in the eighties. He was a big time. Stunt guy too. He's yeah Roadhouse he was a fight trainer. And roadhouse tangaroa cash kickboxer to gladiator digs town. I didn't. I didn't look at any of that shit. We should be talking about this guy for sure. He did the fight training and stunts and soldier and he looks scary. Why we got onto blank. Because i'm michael cutlets cutlets. I thought you were saying cutlets like deal. It sounds delicious but he plays paul chronicler in cleary's okay kesslers the bad guy a federal dude. Actually he's the head of this vi- cap unit but he doesn't trust calories thinks she's a loose cannon and hell she's being haunted by her her dead father as well. She's still driving. The pinto is just yeah. That is well. i'm disappointed that depresses me. Hopefully they can pull it out. does have nick sand in it knicks. Ten dollars and out. He was a joe caputo on orange. Is the new black the warden guy and oranges. No with the big. Like shit kicker mustache. Yeah yeah yeah. I like him say i did. It also has cal heroin kumar. Oh right right right. He only does non comedy roles. Every time i see him he is like stone faced like i think he was just like man. I'm going to be a serious actor guys no more stone or flicks for me. It's too bad too bad. So anyway guy. So tim mcadam with the rating for clarisse zero. I guess i'm nights it. I give it a two point one. Okay what do you think about I'm just scrolling around. What do you think about Queen latifah being the new equalizer. Yeah i'd watch it. I'd watch you the. She really just beat the shit out of everybody with a crowbar. She does because. I don't remember the old equalizer nice to know his name. Edward woodward oh man. Good how'd you. how'd you do. I've been waiting years for you to bring this up. The podcast is over. We've done it did you say edward woodward i- remember him for a from a bunch of like Like a bunch of movies on pbs. Probably oh he's the he's the cop from the wicker man bats right okay nailed it. I remember him not so much beating people's asses as like i don't like walking up behind them in like sticking him in the neck with a syringe or something sneaky but not like didn't know kung fu or anything edward woodward was in lithium nikita tv series too. Oh i only saw a few of those of his in hot fuzz. Yeah i love. That mood fun freakin show anyway any. Let's get this episode. Started with should welcome to the yarn wall. Welcome guys since. We're already twenty minutes into it. I hope you enjoyed the show so far because the rest of it. Like i said may be downhill from here kind of like the a mining cart in temple. Doom it's just barely barely staying on the rails already. And i'm tim corn high and with me as always is i'm jason ricky dicky rickety mining cart jason rickety mining. Car walker beautiful. Yeah anyway old british guys i. I'm sorry i blow it up cleary's and had had to throw that at you. Because i do have a lot to talk about here. No i wanted to know. It's going to seem like. I'm all over the place but i actually have some notes. I even had a couple of things written down of. Hey you should start off with this tim. This was of money joke. Wow no idea what the joke was can't get should have written down the joke right. I kind of have the same thing going on. It took a bunch of notes and then immediately threw them away. What you set on fire. I mean it's been hanging out the trash. They're like they're ash now. Well i put my social security number on my. That's how title so. I can't just leave that around man. I just have to say. I am still looking at manhunter. And it's cool to look at the images because it's a michael man movie so everything looks fucking eighties and beautiful. You know Did you know that michael man. Oh man let me find it. Real quick edit my hesitation out 'cause i should just be able to pop up with it but he did last of the mohicans. Did you know that. I think we talked about that. I can't even like square that in my mind because there's no like neon or like rainy streets or you know what i mean. Same guy did collateral. That did the last of the mohicans is just kind of weird to me. The we talk deep into michael man. When we're talking about the keep so i am. I'm sure we did that. Wasn't that long ago. And i don't remember any of that zero recall. I'm like the opposite of that movie with zero. He's like raw. I gotta tell you. I know you don't necessarily look at our facebook group. Don't our group is growing. How i'm inviting people into the group who have been befriend amihai beginning a slew of friend requests. I'm sure to three percent are actually real. Some of them are bought. But anybody who friends me. I've been throwing him straight into the moratorium group. Because i assume that that's what they want. They don't want me. Because i don't postal my normal stuff. I only posed for this podcast. That's something that. I wouldn't assume you know what i mean because people are weird. You know what i mean like. They would follow us just for one thing. They're like alan fudge devotees or something and then we trash him they're like this isn't the content that i this isn't what i signed up. I wanted a pro fudge forum and you guys are shitting all over. But i'm serious. People are like that you know. Well i've been getting a lot of direct messages to that. I do not respond to the direct messages but somebody in our facebook group Message me said hello beautiful. I love your profile picture. I'll be happy if you text me back. I a- sugar daddy. And i'm interested in having you as my sugar bail my guy and you get paid weekly my payments start from five thousand dollars. So you mmediately. You're like where's my wallet. Thank god chrome saves all of my credit card number. I am two clicks away from the immediately when i was trying to delete this direct message. I hit video call. Okay you're taking it up. And you're like i wanna know more about the. I guess i gotta see this guy or girl. It's a guy. And it's i know it's a hack account and it's an old guy. He thought you were beautiful though his message as at three zero five at three oh seven. It says he missed your call okay. He should be by the phone. I laughed so damn hard. Because i made myself a medium on accident. Yeah you did your like a. I hope that nigerian prince to get back. Oh but that was good stuff. I last are good. Twenty minutes awesome so if there are any real sugar daddies out there. I'm just saying vailable yet. Maybe he's the heir to the What's the name of that sugar company. The only one that there is cnn. H yes cna. He's literally a sugar. Daddy i don't wanna break your heart but i got the same message. Did he thought. I was beautiful too. Yeah hey which we probably should say. Your profile picture is just a ventriloquist dolls. Head ria oh. He thought that he thought that was beautiful. Fetishes for everyone. I guess that's the point. I was trying to make earlier is like people get into some weird very specific stuff Which makes us want to up up our only fans contribution are yeah. Yeah we can make some stuff happen. We can make the magic happen for just five dollars a month when you think. That sounds okay now. I think we could up that well. I know that there has to be a a fetish out there for somebody who's looking for a middle aged overweight man who does a podcast. It's gotta be out there yet. There's they said there's somebody for everybody that's right. So let's break in here and talk about rod steiger because we go down rod steiger's career from the kindred and young. You said that you said found some interesting stuff. I wanted you to share some shit with us. He's like the last generation's kevin bacon like playing the kevin bacon game with him would be Super easy okay. He trained with like the you know fuda hogan and like Who you know. He was like super method. Worked with marlon brando I was reading some mahler marlon brando shit earlier and a stake. I understand that he was great in. I mean he's in fucking the godfather you know but like really dropped off and his job a years. Yeah yes i do. Not think of streetcar named desire or you know any of his life classic movies. When i think of him i think of island of dr moreau and him having that little like Metal fez that you put ice in that a deer remember that part he. He had ice on his head. Just a like nexus of the worst decisions ever you know. Let's have val kilmer and marlon brando. Val kilmer was a very you know. He got real weird to before he got throat cancer. Whatever good god having the fucking wrangle those two dudes all day in sane and they were like fighting at the same time you know so when they had to be unscreened together is a big fucking thing and i mean if you look at rod steiger's. Imdb i think he on the waterfront is the movie that he was in with Marlon brando yes directed by ilya kazakhstan. And you're like here. It actually says in his trivia talks about him. Being the kevin bacon is listed as the center of the hollywood universe by the university of virginia's oracle of kevin bacon they have an oracle of kevin bacon. What do you mean they have like him. Shrine like a blind girl. That's just has like ghost. That's what i think of this. I could be wrong. But it says that Rod steiger can be linked to any other movie actor and the classic kevin bacon game style and an average of two point. Six five one steps. I i mean i believe it because i just Using him i have lost. Somebody's coming in here in taking my note reached that age where it has to be somebody else. It's somebody a gremlin. Somebody just brings their gremlin over the house. Yes get that gremlin outta here. What are you thinking. Dogs going to. Just sit and bark at it. Okay here we go here. Sorry yeah i rod steiger to of course get out of The kindred. And that's why i started looking at that stuff because i was like okay. I feel like we're not. I mean we never call at the kevin bacon game. But that's what we're playing you know when we do the yarn wool so a bit for us. I really think it would be more fitting to have one of these other people that are just keeps on showing up but But i i'll get into that when i do my movie later so the yeah anyway. I believe he was nominated for a couple of the academy awards. I don't know one. I think he does have an oscar Or odd stagger does. But i'm trying to find it so what you're saying though is that you went through rod steiger and which means the yarn could go absolutely anywhere yes basically. There's no way that. I can guess it now because i would be wrong a no. You definitely wouldn't get it Just you'd have to put some time into but it was one of those things where i just felt like. I had several movies to pick from still have like you know a hundred a this. One just happened so easily that i was like. Oh well it was meant to be you know. But what's funny is i. Don't think we want rod. Steiger is because. I wanted to make whoever it whoever we decide on. You know. Seven degrees of alan fudge or whatever i. It shouldn't be rod steiger now. I'm going to reveal my candidate later. But i think you'll i think it will approve. So what else you got on this beefy bald headed guy all of these guys that we look at that were born in the you know early. Nineteen hundreds They all were in the military All had like kinda hard scrabble lives you know and Rod steiger's no different the joined the acting group With the gi bill aid for it and that was his ticket the hollywood so his the first thing on his trivia says he was offered the title role and patent. Yeah refused the role. Saying i'm not going to glorify war right. Which the role went to george. C scott who oscar for the for the role right eiger calls his refusal the dumbest career move and he has a lot of parallels with george c. Scott they kind of you know auditioned for a lot of the same roles. I think he was nominated for Best actor for the pawnbroker. Think i've actually seen can tell you thing about it. But i i i have an image of him in it He landed what many considers his greatest roles shariff bill. Gillespie in the heat of the night. Nine hundred sixty seven opposite sydney poi-. Da steiger deservedly took home the best actor oscar for the work in that film Okay gotcha and this is saying that. Pawnbroker is his second oscar nomination. So i don't but i. He was the main character. So i assume it's for best actor so benz nineteen sixty four rod. Steiger is the pawnbroker. Hot pawnbroking action. Oh my god visit just like a film of him. Just saying selling guns to i think so says a jewish pawnbroker victim of nazi persecution loses all faith in his fellow man and till he realizes to leif the tragedy of his actions. That always turns into a comedy. Well it's from sydney lemay. What do you expect. He's known for all. The comedy is like Twelve angry men dog day afternoon. Vagary men was just silly. I like that when you know. I just want something silly to watch. Sydney has also he's credited with Serpico the wiz trap like god you just named three movies that were on h. b. o. When i was a kid that i've seen one million times. Oh my god dude death trap. i've never seen it. Are you kidding me. I'm never you already know kind of the the box. Art is icon iq. I mean it's a rubik's cube that has right. Yeah yeah. Yeah michael cain and christopher even dyan cannon sticking their heads out of. Don't read anything about it and got to see it. I can't believe there's just a one line synopsis on. Imdb here so says a broadway. Playwright puts murder in his plan to take credit for students play. That tells me a lot of nothing. It's a real like Jade davidson's weiner what's his name. Jay davidson that his name from stark. Acs why didn't he show is wayne stargate like a deleted scene right. It just shows it to kurt russell. Quick i call this little raw What do you think he's punches him in the face. Kurt russell's hair in that movie is hilarious in stargate. They like cut it with a level like you could set a beer on top of it and it would not move Where are we we were talking about rod. The bod steiger rod the bump see. That's what i'm saying is like i. It makes me think that that kind of method acting that he must do. You know that marlon brando kinda got into. I wonder if those guys just get so far into their heads that it makes them kind of crazy because rod steiger in the kindred. I mean i know. He's acting but something seems wrong with him. You know what i mean. Yeah so i think. He reached that part of his career where he was just like being. Really cheap. taking weird Like idiosyncratic decisions you know. And they're acting real weird well in his trademarks on. Imdb states his chunky frame. Serious looking face okay. I guess i agree with that here. Full-bodied somewhat bombastic style of acting at sounded like you were describing a wine for a second. I know oh it's full body aromatic bombastic next noses of leather. And they say the weirdest things when they're doing those like professional like who what is it. A somalia is that There's a gentle hint of pencil lead. And you know it's like a what would have you ever adjust sucked on a pencil. Ed feel like i can be as somalia. have there ever been somali pirates. Ooh i like that yet. They dislike hijack big wine shipments anyway. rod steiger was married. Five times. see that's another red flag. I'm thinking he seems like he would be the kind marlon. Brando does to where they'd have like secret families that nobody else knew How they just leave for years. And then i am positive. You are correct there. Who is he married to a lot of people people. I don't know probably long dead. Sorry guys it happens. I can't look at his face. frankly anymore I'm just gonna hard. Click click off going. Click up that. I'm gonna close. Michael man will admit to era. Yup yup yup yet. I got molly. Ringwald opens for some reason. This week at work. I've been kind of like just not into so just been kind of like doodling. All the time and i was thinking about the brat. Pack as i am wanting to do and I guess just trying to kind of down exactly who that is you know. I mean it's basically just the cast of the breakfast club you know with some other. John hughes kind of like satellite People you know like eric stoltz and you know Yeah the type you know. They're like the second tier brat. Pack guys but Like i said just doodling at work. So i kind of came up with sort of a candy. Land style board game to play with some of the pack people. You know since. I can't see you rolling some dice or something you know and i don't really trust you either to say oh. I rolled six again. Yeah no no. You didn't stop using that d- twenty two exactly this is this is not the. I have slaved the candy cane for yet. I stuck in molasses swamp for a little bit some of the things that i of had jotted down for different. I guess these are probably all You know you don't want to land on these spaces in the brat. Pack candy land. How come up with a better name for heavy. Made little cardboard cutouts of each brat. Pack character that you cannot yet but let me tell you something and this is not. I'm not lying. I have photoshop up right now with a picture of the breakfast club. Sitting on that rail in the library have cropped my face over molly ringwald body yet Molly ringwald space is not there anymore. The way her head is turned in the picture that i have. It just really lends itself to Some good head swaps and maybe this will lead into You know usually we wait until a little later for the movie reveals so Okay it'll come back up just going to read some of the you know maybe some of the obstacles in a candy land breath came. Let's see you can land in Candy lane detention. Obviously you mess with the bowl. Negative horns name. You're just there with a pretend week for ten weeks ten weeks. he has for ten weeks principal. Vernon does let's see. I have Oh christmas at the benders where you dad. Just got a new cartoonist. Johnny is gonna put some out on your arms so this is what you get when you spill paint in the garage. Did i stutter. So landing on that space probably wouldn't be there should be three spaces of the same thing right one of says. Did i stutter. Yes in fact. There's not very many spaces in this game. That are just you know you're not making progress. You're you're pretty gonna get get the business. You're going to get hose. I have like saint. Elmo's fire trapper something. And of course. Jon pars immortal classic the entire song before you can get off that spe. It is playing constantly while you're on. This is going to be a complicated game. I'm going to need. I'm starter like a gofundme or something but anyway. So that's what i've been doing. Just kind of not really related to the podcast. No no thing. See and i kind of thought about like doing kind of a d. and d. Or maybe like a magic the gathering because i have alleys sheedy's dandruff as like a weapon Also robert downey junior could do the same thing. He kind of first cocaine in your face and scampers off have lose a term for that one. Highlight it all right charlie. Sheen's strip club but anyway you get the idea you gotta practice for your scholarship as thinking about the lipstick seen who would be a good a replacement for molly ringwald. I give you a hint. It's an old guy that was born in nineteen twenty but rod steiger oath real close real close. Hey can we take a break real quick sure and then we can actually started with the podcast art anyway. Sorry about that guys. You're going to hear some screaming. And joey bishop get shot no not joey bishop Peter lawford won't. There's always an ms plan in the background whether you have the sound honor already true. So which one is this time. A angels revenge. A charlie's angels rip off from the seventies. And you know what's funny. It's directed by great on clark and his wife is the main character Oh great on. What won't you hate. Hate him. I am with a passion. I need the backup a minute. Because i have a small tangent. I wanted to take scown From david allen brooks every time you say that. I think you're gonna say david alan grier. Yeah i'm sorry you get excited for a brief moment. I do. But i was looking his career earlier today and he was in a movie. Called named movie called scream for help. This was a nineteen eighty four. That does not sound exciting at all. No a teenage girl discovers that her stepfather is trying to murder her and her mother but when she tells people no one will believe her. And i'm like okay with this is a. I didn't watch the trailer for it but it looks like a little just a little slasher film that has really nobody in it but it was written by tom. Holland weird. Yeah trying to find out. What's it called again. I guess i got backup scream for help okay. Nineteen at it. So i got me looking at you know tom holland for a minute. Because we've talked about him being the writer of fright night child's play and he's been around for quite a while we love him that movie scream for help. was directed by michael winner. Yes and michael winner did the sentinel death wish He did a bunch of accuracy. Serpico the mechanic man. He played around with adalah. Yeah he did so many charles bronson films believable shadows land. I've never seen mister majestic i. I think that end the mechanic mixed up. You know what we got the fucking charlie brown skin mister majestic. He also directed a movie called dirty weekend as it like a they work on like assad farm or something at actually has david mccallum minutes. What very interesting since. We just brought him up. This is a story of bella who woke up one morning and realise she'd had enough. Oh all it took was one rather nasty man to transform her from a meek and mild secretary in two murderous fem fatale. We're gonna say run dmc when struggling offer. Which would have made a much better movie. Yes so ever. You need somebody. I just british guide really david. Mccallum is good to just plop in there He did additional. Voices on the oblong. Three reaper of souls. That his incredible. Okay one of these days not today. But we're going to have to talk about david. Mccallum's voiceover work. Which i did not know was a thing goes on and on and on holy shit crazy. I started looking at him last time. We were talking about him. I'm like margaret wild. We are going to have to spend an hour on that. But david allen brooks was also in a tv series. He was in one episode of tv series called she wolf of london thought that created by mick garris and tom mclaughlin think i looked that up. One and it reads a female. American graduate student in london is bitten by a werewolf then teams up with an english professor to investigate supernatural occurrences. It's the sounds delirious. I think there's twenty episodes But tom mcglaughlin who helped create this and he wrote and directed friday the thirteenth part six. Jason lives god but he also wrote date with an angel so where to yet another one that i just remember from my childhood as being like i mean it was on. Tv constantly. david dukes. From a raw head rex's in that he doesn't have a ton of credits but when i see him. I'm like see buddy. But tom mclaughlin also wrote and directed a movie called one night and this reads as a part of initiation into a club called the sisters. A young must spend the night in a mausoleum mike. All right thought meg tilly. No i'm like I love good meg. Tilly moving and kevin peter hall the guy that played the predator. Exactly back you know what is wild about scream for help. I'm sorry i'm still on that. You know when you hover over the trailer next to it. Nez sex in the trailer. Oh like david allen brooks or dab as i call him walks into a room and his girlfriend's like his friends like fucking his girlfriend. O the trailer anyway. Anyway all did you look at the images for she wolf of london. It looks awful. It looks horrible. I mean it looks like they're just doing tales from the dark side. Basically but the guy turning into the weird like alicea ran he's got the rat whiskers yet based on like that at all so which is going to take me straight into part of my am. I going to call us to gore toward him. Yes this is my gory taurean entry. Okay okay i'm gonna go straight into it from this because it kind of really fits. Can i say one thing really quick. I suppose i just wanna say that in date with an angel Michael e knight. Who was i. Remember him from a lot of different stuff to From back in the day but a his girlfriend is phoebe. Cates right awesome. yes The most like beautiful girl ever. Although in this you know this is like mid eighty. She has a like boys haircut. Come which i mean. It was drop dead fred time. Yeah yeah just one of those things where the angel is just like a skinny blond chick and his girlfriend is phoebe cates. And it's like. I think i would just call the police and let them handle it. And i'll just stay here with phoebe cates. But anyway. that's just my personal. Ob bashes in that yes clicking off of it not taking off now all right. Well i'm going to go straight into this idea because we just talking about the equalizer you know I was just thinking about tv series. Okay okay and we have a lot of tv series that were kinda based on horror and mystery and stuff like that but there was a certain kind of genre back in the eighties where we had a drifter that was involved Ryan chucker the hitchhiker's exactly what i'm talking about. I was trying to beat around the bush. But you know i know the hitchhiker. Do you remember this show. Oh yeah yeah. Yeah did you watch it. Yeah it's no tales from the dark side or tales from the crypt. It must not have been very memorable. Because i can't even like come up with one plot and every one of them. It looks like they're on youtube now. Really only place you can find it without paying rhyming. And it's i guess we should say it's like it's an anthology that's like strung together with with I don't know what you call that. Like I thought maybe the hitchhiker was part of the stories. But no he's just kind of the intro. he's wet ties it together. He's but he's not in any of the episodes zachariah. I'm just now getting it up here. Okay started in nineteen eighty three. I thought that i would recognize the hitchhiker no I kind of thought that he was a better known actor. I do not recognize him at all. Nope by fletcher. Yeah and every time. I see his name. I keep trying to say belcher. Oh man that's something completely. This series had a lot of well known actors in it too. Yep kirstie alley was. In two episodes shannon tweed was in two episodes. Sure your gary. Bucy's your tom skerritt. S- i am sure it just goes on and you are on. You are not. It looks like you're just scrolling through every actor that was available in nineteen eighty three basically. Yes helen hunt. Kelly lynch james remar but i remember this show on. Hbo and i think at the time and now granted this was like nine thousand nine hundred eighty three. When it started. I was eleven. My dad was taken me to go see like the entity at the movie theater. I wasn't necessarily allowed to watch the show. Not at home right. It was taboo. And i remember it being kind of taboo. While i watched the first episode. I wanted to watch more but i had to get tied up and other things for this podcast. You're into that auto erotic asphyxiation but this is like zalman. King did creepshow right yet. They're just little montage fees though vignettes but there was a lot of nudity in the first episode that i i watched it with my wife. And she's like Is this a porno girls. Got her tits out am i. Are you getting tinguely and like it like that. Then she threw a shoe at me. Yeah that seems right. yeah But i mean this is at the same time as like dream on. I remember wondering dream on with like my mom and it was like. Oh yeah or 'cause everybody's new in that in that show. The story was interesting. The first story just basically is A young vero looking man getting ready to get married to A rich older lady and it's basically he falls in love with with her like niece or her stepdaughter. Or whatever whoever it is okay and so he's trying to get out of his marriage anyway. Lots of sex lot nudity. Little twist couple of deaths kind of interesting okay. I will continue to go down. I'll give you a hitchhiker update. As i continue to watch this. Yeah great i mean. Is it time for another series to come out where you have a drifter and i'm not just talking about highway to heaven drifter yeah drifters really have a negative connotation but when we talked about before we talked about then came bronson. This is kind of the same idea well and also like incredible hall well in the master too for that matter. I mean we knew we were going to bring it up at some point but or like. Kung-fu i guess. you know. just kind of a wanderer that like every episode of something different but this one was different because the wanderer in the story is not in the story correct. he's just the host. I do like that image. You know but yeah. He kind of serves no purpose. Did you see that. originally. I think like probably for the pilot. And a couple episodes nicholas campbell was the hitchhiker. Was this other guy you know. He's a serial killer from dead zone and out right. Okay yeah frank. I watched that episode again episode. That scene i've seen seems lately. The scissors seen yes. Yeah do you know the kind of like. I'd probably brought it up before. But like the stephen king lower behind a dead zone or at least his character. I think you went into tell me about this before. I think. I probably shut myself down right after i said it because there is literally no no evidence. I had no follow up to it. It did happen during the time when he is you know killing people he is like inhabited by the spirit of the thing. That was in cujo if you can if you can imagine that when kujo died His whatever that thing we kinda chucky situation where it just floated around and found Frank dodd i thought it was kind of the other way around that frank. Dodd was evil. Damn sorry indecu. You're absolutely right. Take that flip it. Yes yes okay. That seems less silly. Is that just end the books that mentions that or does it. I think stephen king gives it like two sentences. And then i don't think he really cared either man. I hope i'm right about that too. Because i'm just that is just something i have not verified to myself. It's just a memory that i have. Well that is a call out to our listeners. Please yeah pipe band man. Tell vans let's chat. We have so many things we're looking at here. It's hard to keep this episode together. Let alone tantalus that we just happened upon it really. Is i get the weirdest sense of like synchronicity. plus like deja vu when i'm just sitting here scrolling through ion is very weird. This looks just like last week. Couldn't wait did the podcast. Maybe that's it. Maybe i just never recovered memory from seven days ago since we bring up Stephen king and we talked about it just recently. That that todd sends us both link to watch the short film of one for the road. Oh my gosh i. I haven't watched it yet. Dammit medicare you don't have to man it does look like it was filmed with an iphone. Yeah it does seem like half of the voices are dubbed in and so of verily bad impersonations of like northerners or some. Yeah people from maine yet. Go ahead and pull out your Judd from pet cemetery really have one I really don't have a Northern accent but it seems like everybody's toronto to do this accent and it's just butchered own. I got one knows pretty easy to do. Pepperidge farm remembers commercial. That's the only one i have. Do you remember when enrich five gauge walked out into the road and got hit by a semi. Wasn't a car will pepperidge. Farm remembers go car. I think that's just all you have to do is just have like open ended. Like lots of a and everything within a if we can't so anyway i'm i'm going to induct The hitchhiker to tori him. I will be revisiting. This series sincere are five episodes. I did not watch eighty five episodes to go into this show. But i will continue and i will give you a hitchhiker update as we go along great. I thought about doing that with like a you know. Maybe we can keep this going. I mean there's so many episodes of that like when you get bored with it then we'll stop doing it. All i'm saying is you're probably going to have to to not in chronological order. I get where i'm saying. Pick the good ones. You know somebody. Please give me a list of the good ones you might be few. And far between i thought about like friday the thirteenth the series two yes That would be a good one just to kind of pop in every once in a while and see what's going on i think you're right Somebody on twitter posted a picture recently. that they were in like a cvs or like a walgreen's and the dvd counter had the entire series like on clearance for seven dollars But it was like those old like clam. Shell of friday. The thirteenth. The series the series. I have got to find that that would be awesome. I remember that show being pretty cool. I watched it. And i want to say that i watched it religiously but i don't remember anything. It is more of a it. The the kind of wrap around boy. I'm really going to have to work on my like terminology. What i'm trying to say is there are two character. I mean it's almost like an x. Files where each episode is a different Thing but the it has to lead characters that kind of Hold it all together right okay. And are they anybody. Louise robey which. I kind of recognize her face. And chris wiggins is the other Rigi wig wigan wiki. Wack wiggins is what they call them so there were seventy two episodes of friday the thirteenth series. So about the same amount of time okay. that's a lot. These definitely have a lot of monsters in them. And i think that's probably what kind of disappointed me about. The hitchhiker is I don't think very often. Is it supernatural. as it. it's more like a thriller. I think it does have the supernatural dozen eggs. Yeah okay yeah. Did i not read it off at all on the horrible host. It says each story is usually a mysterious thriller. Okay it does say that right in truly in fact. That's the only thing it says fictional stories are told in this television series by the hitchhiker. Each story is usually a mystery. thriller earned mysterious thriller. It says he tells the story. Well he introduces. The hitchhiker doesn't speak does he. He usually stops and talks to the camera. Well i say that. He did in the first episode. Okay but this episode. So the grandmother of the kid gives him this little statuette of a man and a wife. You know to put on the cake. They've of when he's getting married right. Okay she talks about the bond. I mean this represents the bond between husband and wife and this will be everlasting bond. Gold bond medicated powder. So somebody puts this cake topper on there but then they put candles around it. How often do you see candles on a wedding cake. Well if it's kind of joint Wedding slash birthday. So they lit the candles then the millionairess uh-huh and her boy toy just got married. Both of them start having trouble breathing. Because whoever you know blit the candidate was taken away their air. So there's a later The kid was like messing with the the little statuette and he was trying to separate the man from the woman and for some reason because he thought he had an idea that this was happening and he cut his wrist By cutting the wrist of the statuette so he has this idea that hey he can probably kill off his new wife to be with her frigging stepdaughter and get away with it so he talks to the. I guess there's a live in doctor that lives with him and he's like. Hey doc let's go scuba diving later. He talks the The stepdaughter into putting glass globe over the statuette to cut off the oxygen. It's a voodoo doll. Yes so while. He has his oxygen coming from his tank while they're scuba diving and then has his own alibi so after the wife is dead and the kids getting with the law and they're having sex again. There's a bird that keeps they keep showing this close up on this bird in a cage and it gets out of the cage in it for some reason starts attacking this statuette which then pokes the guys is out scratches him up and he's got blood running down his face and he's just like oh my god and stumbles out the frequent balcony. Classic falls down some stairs and shatters just as the actual statuette shatters bernardi shatters. Yes he shattered. That's different yes I love a good railing. Kill but That sounds it sounds awful. It was alright. It was all right there was enough boobs and that laughable ending. Yeah you're watching it semi ironically yes Semi sexy there's ninety eight images for the hitchhiker on imdb and every single one is like what what and unlike literally i'd like. They are trying to cram so many like and all. These people are like future stars. You know more already stars. God dude there is up time when buried boss twix hair. They had to probably do like a wide angle lens because it is brushing the acoustic tiles better off. Gene simmons is in one just being gene simmons. Michael o'keefe of course from people as we know him primarily from them so picture ninety eight hour sorry ninety four of ninety. Eight is the the episode. I was talking about the original first episode shattered vows. You get a picture of them. A little statuette man and wife such a weird now did they. Did they do something to piss off this woman or why. What did she get out of it. I forget you forget what i was talking about. I guess in my head. I just kinda yada yada yada through the story and so the guys just now falling in love with the daughter and they tried to kill off the air is so they can get the money. Run off together. Okay your classic Love not love story. Yeah go wrong. Basic Just to give our audience a little idea of actually in these episodes. God karen black kirstie alley at thick Bill paxton yes dorothy. Brian james c thomas howell. Chris makepeace david dukes. Do you think. The one. With st thomas how was like if he sees the hitchhiker. He's going to go for him. You know oh. Yeah the hitchhiker versus the hitter. That's exactly and and what is the difference between the two very interesting. I'm glad you brought that up. I will be spending some time on this right. And i'm gonna watch all the old dream on's and i will. We'll just do a drinking game out of like how many tits there are. We'll just don't drink. But i'll do virgin jello shots every time we see that just a jello cup man all right so that is going to be the The end of my induction into this week's door torian cash. That just made me so like. I love those anthology things when they're done correctly. Everything is so fuzzy back then the quality. I think it's a choice that they made where everything's kind of like you know kind of soft edges around everything sort of like just semi softcore that gets you kind of dreamy ville. Yeah i guess. Maybe that's what it is trying to do is look like kind of like I think they did that. In like the later. Like nightmare on. Elm street's like to differentiate between like what the dream was and gotcha. I could be wrong though. I don't think you are all right. Well who do you have today for. your deep dive. Well usually how. I combine the arnall wall with the deep dive. Do you want to leave him into your yard or two. Let's let's go ahead and a because you have a deep dive to correct. I have a deep dive. And i have our listener request. Okay you do your deep dive. Then i'll do my guy and then we'll do the request and the move. Okay okay so you go. I all right this guy. I just happened upon And he somebody. That's been around for a while. And i i just he's not a name that actually stands out maybe is because his name is so it's like a common name. Okay like joe smith. No how about william smith will smith. We're doing wolf. Sma williams smith this williams smith a six foot. Two born in nineteen. Thirty three is nicknamed big bill. Yup he was In every which way you can. Yeah any which way you had it right now. He was the boxer dude. That was going up against clint eastwood. Right any which way you can great. So he shack wilson man. He's been around forever. I didn't recognize him right. But once you start thinking of his face you can picture in all sorts of shit for sure he's got two hundred and seventy five credits now. Is he another stuntman turned actor or what are we got. Yes and yes. It looks like a stunt you could great cheese with his face has a very craggy He has thirty credits and the stunts department. Yeah which Goes down to a stunt double and female friends. nineteen fifty-eight. wow okay. what would that move. I don't know he's also very. I mean he got crankier and crankier as time went on. Calix scott glen. He's actually really good looking guy. I think that like his roles turned him into like this like leathery. Kind of He looked like a leading man to begin with and now he is like a become the villain kind of and since you brought it up since i was going to bring it up are you all. It's like you're you're reading my mind. Where literally on the same page. The imdb page. Because of scott glen was another reason. I brought this guy Okay because he has a bitterness trivia. That seems outlandishly can't believe rains okay. It says he performed over fifty one hundred continuous sit-ups over a five hour period. What he does like stupid human tricks to scott. Glen did two thousand pushups did fifty one hundred situps those guys need to get together between them. They fucking ripped body yet. Stu range coincidence. That is wild. That is wild. If you look at all of his tv work it's insane. I know we say that a lot. A ac- i remember him. I know it's going to come up as being like the other guy in one of those like Beasts master or something. I know he was in wealth and i just can't think new you know. He played conan's father and conan the bar. Blondin it that is is is soya with some big old crepe hair and like a near of a giant mustache actually him. It might have been his mustache. Isn't that just out there. And since you're going to bring it up anyway yes. He was in one episode of the master. perfect yet. your new favourite got. That sounds just right. I immediately looked for my guide to Just because they are basically in the same My guys a little bit older than him but definitely in the same circles awesome and yes they are in a tv show together like bgn. The bear man and is b.j in the barrett. Does he go into the the drifter type t likes it. Yeah probably yeah. Wasn't he going from town to town solving crimes or something earlier. I mean it's the same. Yeah so william smith. Two hundred seventy five credits. He was in the outsiders. He was in rumble fish. Oh man that's a good movie. I love that movie but for tv. You've got j hooker hardcastle mccormick. All the regulars are here scarecrow. Mrs king riptide Simon and simon air wolf twilight zone murder. She wrote he was in a movie. Next to gabe. Uc is the tiger. I might have brought this up. But what if. Simon and simon kissed and when they broke away they each had the other ones mustache. You have said this before it was probably thirty episodes ago. Good times talking into avoid hell comes to frog town. Maniac cop will alter in one thousand nine hundred ninety eight but there's a lot of these movies that he shows up and that that really he's the only guy clicked on this evil alter before and it reads and the small town of red rock. What year was that Seventy hour seventy nine. Nineteen thousand nine ninety played. Lucky lonnie lucky man jones. Yeah hey. John saxons in that film as phil phil phil john. Saxon does definitely does not look like phil dope never ever. He sure does look like john saxon though he nailed that name out got him for just a second talk about the ultimate warrior. Who brought this up before it is kind of a dystopia in future Along the same lines as like damnation alley. It's got yul brenner. As the main character in william smith is in it as carrot. What year is that seventy. Five seventy five. It is not good. I do like certain elements of it if you described it to somebody. It really sounds like a anime new kind of plays out as an anime like different bosses. They have to fight and stuff but so this isn't about the debuted w. e. wrestler the guy that just like put steroids in every every square inch of his body. Yet max von side al as baron. Yup you didn't mentioned stephen mikati down there speaking of craggy faces when you click on his. Imdb that first image of him. Recently with a cardigan that i think i own. Did you contact him to see if he can get it back. No i it is now and he looks odd without that mustache. Yep you're looks fairly normal. He looks like a richard crna. Yeah yeah yeah boy crags on that. So william smith williams smith. He was in a movie. Debbie does damnation. I passed it a second ago here. Nineteen ninety four. He was in a movie called amana. Sorace another thing that has no plot. It does have poster. The poster doesn't look at it has vernon wells in it though. Man talk about vernon wells. And william smith together as lou face a little of vernon wells face goes a long way. You can really spread that out. Toast us us. William smith faces a knife what we brought this up before about the rollerblades seven and it looks like william smith has played and every one of these rollerblading. He's rollerblade seven return of the roller blade. Seven can let dude Nineteen ninety-one he's phero is is he had rollerblades. And why have. I not watched this. I have no words for what i'm looking at right now. It basically looks like kind of a power rangers situation. What is going on. I'm getting this. I'm finding this immediately. We've talked about it before it looks so bad. Oh i think we talked about it because it's the same dude. That did roller gator. Exactly they both have a lesser talented stars brother and each have joe estevez and frank. Stallone has do you think that those guys get together like frank stallone. You know that the gut that flesh fe but the rest of it's not flashlights. Just like his skull. That's exactly as it is. A larry william smith plays dr farley in that barley party party. Well let's get onto williams smith's trivia because this shit seems unreal besides the fifty one hundred freakin sit-ups lifetime achievement award for the academy bodybuilding and fitness Two-time arm wrestling champion at the two hundred pound weight class. Not one arm muscles guy He was the marlboro man in the final televised marble commercial. I can see competed as a downhill skier. And the a you. Imdb it really helps you get into like the slavic Like pronunciation of it. It says beloved the meter vladimir putin lunatic Was his birth name. Which later changed to jack. Jack palance if there is any time i mean i mean even younger people well slightly younger people know him from doing fucking one arm push-ups at the oscars when he was in seventies. He is six foot three man. I did not know he was. That tall is an imposing figure born in pennsylvania in nineteen nineteen. I can't imagine that he was ever a child. I just imagined small land that just got bigger over time and i'm gonna read pretty much like verbatim from the from his baiocco on imdb. Because it's just it's pretty good. I'm not gonna read the whole. I'm gonna paraphrase a little bit but it says it looks like a pretty long jack palance quite often exemplified evil in coronate on film knowing that Portraying some of the most intensely feral villains witnessed in the nineteen fifties westerns and melodrama which yeah changed his name to from all the mayor to walter jack pallets. His dad was a coal. Miner died of black lung or Kids had a great time. Jalen's worked in the mind. Yes yes but he said but averted the same fate as his father. He just got mild black lawn. That explains the voice is when i assume that all of these guys Smoked a carton of cigarettes a day because They were told it was good for him right. It took care black lung. Said you know it. Exactly as like counteracted. The effects of breathing black smoke undergrads push out that black stuff with this thick smoke. Cheeses so yeah. He got the fuck out of their By a football scholarship and went to school at the university of north carolina. He was a boxer Fought under the name. Jack brazo brazzaville must mean something weird to him or it was just like a Cleaner for like Your silverware said one. Is i fifteen fights. Twelve by knockout awesome course when world war two started he was like going to shoot some fucking nazis And it was in the air force as a bomber pilot. He was a fucking pilot. Wow wounded in combat suffering severe injuries and burns. He received a purple heart good conduct medal and the world war two victory medal awesome. He won the entire world war then he won. He was the one yet. Awesome little known. Facts kids yeah. I mean and there is a winner in war. This name is exactly. thanks thanks. Vlad oh man. Vlad he did play dracula. But i digress. Went back to school after that to become a sports journalist. Well so okay. It doesn't even seem like it should fit worked at a radio station. And that's where he got into. Yeah welcome to the smooth-talking radio styles of lot of mirror. Jack palance brazo sorry. I just ran twenty miles to get. That was a good very good. Said he was bit by the acting bug but then subsequently bit bud back yes and ate it and killed it swallowed. It is under study for marlon brando in the broadway. The facial burns and resulting reconstructive surgery falling following the crash and burn of his world war two bomber plane actually worked to his advantage. Great my god how. How did well. I mean you know makes a good bad guy in western burns on your face. It says here out of contention as glossy romantic leading man palance instead became an archetype villain equipped with an imposing glare intimidating stance and killer shark smile. I mean that's that's that's really Described same he has worked with like you know some. I mean like the big names back in the fifties was the other elia kazan movie that we were just talking about on the waterfront on the waterfront streetcar named desire. Yep yep yep yep yep yep got up until this point. I think everybody knows him as the bad guy. Shane real fucking bad guy. That's a good movie sign of the pagan as attila the hun if you go through his images on tv there is a kind of like john. john wayne playing Gingas kahn With that ridiculous moustache awesome. He has one two which is terrifying. He looks scary. I'm looking at the strange case of dr. jekyll. And mr that was. I think that was a tv movie camera. Looks like it should be but also had denholm elliott in it. Oh man love a good Denholm elliott moore was just talking about shadows land manno. I thought you said it earlier. It's a michael winner. Maybe i sneezed or okay He was in that with the motherfucking. Charlie am always going to say his name from now on he was a nice guy quote unquote lieutenant in these single season. Jodie amato takes the cake for loathsome nece bizarre. I may end cake. Taker real cake taker. We will talk in at length about jodie. Amato at some point. There is a time when i was really like collecting all of those italian movies and lesser known italian movies in. Why'd you give up on it. Probably because of joe d. visited had enough. Here's one that we brought up. Before that i need to see jack palance and donald pleasants martin landau and alone in the dark yet. That's the companion piece to Without warning it looks like it but it also has arlen van lit and it's erwin van. Lit he plays ronald fatty else. Sir okay what year was this Nineteen eighty two erwin van lit. He was dynamo in running man. Oh my god has names fatty. He was gross. Burger and stir crazy. Leave talked about him before i think he has four credits and acting. But he is credited with the soundtrack because he was singing and the running man. He actually sang that like opera. Bullshit i does so gotta swear. We've talked about this because we were like. Oh well yeah he would if he. I mean like you know. That was his kind of gags sort of man. He was six foot six and died at the age of thirty. Something of heart. Failure is five sticks of butter for breakfast Diet eventually caught up with Jack shoulder directed alone in the dark. If anybody's keeping score at home and robert shea wrote the story rubber shea is lynch as husband no shit. Wait a minute brother brother of lynch who saved it. Robert is another deep dive for another day because we cannot possibly fit all of that in. He wrote a lot of cool as shit. He was the founder and ceo of new line cinema. Yes did not know got. Andy was the founder of hair club for men. Oh i'm also a client jack my friend burke and his brother. Trent loved a movie back in the day when we were in junior high called. Hawk the slayer. He's volt tan in that volt hand. You know you couldn't find this movie back in the day. I seem remember going to light. Comic book conventions with us guys in them. Trying to find this clamoring over that last bootleg copy of hawk the slayer so Jack palance was also in gore and gore part. Which will we'll circle back around for both of those movies here in a second. Okay okay so mid to late eighties is really where he hit his stride. He had within a couple of years young guns batman eighty nine batman tango and cash. His name is. Can you pronounce his name in tango and cash. Jives ives i leaves ives. Almost wanna watch the movie just to see how they say it y- eve's heaves parrot. That actually sounds right. okay. I don't know what solar crisis's does that ring a bell is. I remember the box. Art oh yeah. I remember this. Yeah it was kind of a mad. Max rip off a little bit. A huge solar flares predicted to fry earth astronauts must fly to the sun to drop a talking bom at the right time so the flare will point somewhere. Here's what the bomb said. You're going to do what that was it a talking on the fuck dessert even mean. Who don't know this has tim. Mathieson charlton heston peter boyle. God jack palance have cheese. Dan shore and paul williams as the voice of the bio. That is amazing. I do we have to do this movie now. I think we might. It's either that or up. The creek finally Displaying the voice at the office. I'm a point that blair somewhere else kind of having a solar crisis over. Oh my god that is wild wild and wacky. He looks good. Jack palance in that. Like kind of steam punk He's got like dwayne wayne. Glasses a little bit. You know that. Flip up. Yeah i see. You've never seen this movie know. I'll note never seen it. Peter boyle defiling himself in this anyway which culminated in city slickers and ninety one. She won a oscar form. Pretty sure for best supporting oscar for that okay. Sure i think that's what initiated. The one arm push-ups was the go. Yeah take this oscar Sir you can't smoke a cigarette on stage. Tell me that thing keeping me alive. This this is keeping the black lung. Bay exactly Let's just breeze. Right past cops in robertson's During his struggling days he worked at a short order. Cook waiter and soda jerk lifeguard at jones beach and a photographer's model Really a picture jack. Just buck ass naked on a. Can you pose a little bit less james. Your breathing is distracting. Everyone you're a hand model and ms y. Are your pants now. Like the breeze once while filming a fight scene with burt. Lancaster palance actually punched the unsuspecting lancaster. And the face lancaster responded. In kind by socking poland's in the gut causing him to vomit. That's how we did it back. Oh kid i can't. I mean that's what i'm saying like everybody was like ready to fight. have fucking switchblades and shit. I assume that picture of him as attila. The hun is in pain. It is now my background in short jack. Palance wouldn't wanna seem in a dark alley at night. This what we're saying here. Not even now. When he's dead especially now see he did the same thing as like Clint eastwood and the same thing is Leonardo dicaprio in Once upon a time in hollywood he just went to italy for a few years and was in like boom boom boom like knocked alec eight or nine of these things and gore Happened to be one of them off. Very icon ick cover for this. I always saw. It always noticed it at the video store. But i was a pretty discerning customer you now i this thing and i was like okay kid. You've been here for four hours. would you please get something. And all this time. You were just waiting for whoopi boys to come back and stock right hoping that they were like i know they rented it out today but they rented it out like early today so they might bring it back and get something else. They never did so. He knocked out a few of these Italian what do you call. They are sword The i guess. They're basically sword and sorcery sandal. But they're also a sifi element to so right all of that Okay do you remember watching gore or gore. Parlow do mostly because gore part. Two or outlaw of gore as i know it was a team of course oh and not necessarily playing in the background. No but i can okay. Were you leading with that question. Maybe a turn around just saw mitchell jumping over the fence. That walter dini's house so anyway okay so gore this first one. I didn't realize that. I wanted to talk about it. Until i saw the people that are in it Oliver reed is in it. I saw rick marks. And i thought was richard silent same thing. There is a playboy playmate named rebecca. Ferati she gets billing. I drove a ferrari. Ones didn't care for. I had a fraud for breakfast. You know where they kind of like a like a fan omelette. But it's got like you know sausage onion. Paul l smith is in that original gore He is a truly loathsome man who you will know front. He played the beast ray-ban in dune he's the guy. That's like a heading passive. Whatever off of that neat thing that's just kind of hanging there He's also kind of the mute bodyguard i guess. For ernie rises junior. In red sonja. Earning rice junior arrays. Junior not sure how said what was his. Big movie wasn't three ninjas. He had his own gets clo. Yes something like that wasn't sidekick sir norm. That was the kid killed himself from sequenced video. Really okay now. I said it i just watched the soleil moon frye a documentary. Not a joke. I just watched it very interesting No mako was in Side calc okay. Good who's the kid. Who is the call. I thought jonathan ban brand. Yeah he killed him saying. I think he committed suicide. I wonder what happened to him when seaquest was canceled. He performed in eighty five commercials name and he was. Also i don't thinks seaquest was his his child star like before that and i can't remember what considered roy scheider to be a person of the biggest influence on him as an act. It's a weird way to say that Who's the guy in the robe in seaquest. I don't. I never watched that. I think i've seen it a couple of times with it on sci fi channel. I guess i didn't even realize that roy scheider was in main character. I didn't realize that ted ramey was on this. There's also a lesser deluise There's two deluise really her peter and michael o. Jonathan brandis is also the kid in never ending story to ride He also played bill. Dim bro The kid version in mitt and he was in ladybugs. God if you saw that rodney dangerfield was. Your daughter's soccer coach would move three towns away. Run he was in the stepfather. Part two. I watched that just recently. That was a meg foster. I believe wasn't it that Was the woman. Look still -tario Meg foster caroline williams who was Stretch in texas chainsaw massacre two. I'll nice i'm sorry. How did we get on him. Or i don't know gore. I don't know how he got. Don't know god knows. But look at larry taylor and gore. His picture is that a makeup or is that just how he looks. tell you he's from england so the teeth checkout but also the guy that played the mummy in the mummy boss learn all the vosloo vosloo he was in that. We're yes so. Are you telling us that we're doing cops and robertson's next week now i told you already. This is all pointless. We're doing a up the creek. Okay so like i. I like to do with these Yarn walls. I want to get it over quickly. You know i wanted to right to the chase. I've only got two moves all right. Well you want to go to it now or do you want to go into our listener requests. Let's do the listener request. Real quick put a pin and get it over love gore. And we'll be back right after this after these messages. Have you tried smoking. Check talent lucky. Strikes lucky strikes when filters are gist filters check. This is a this is a maalox. Try our new lucky strikes smokable. Yoga's all right well coming straight from our listener requests and we will respond to you anyway if you wanna come in and don't dare to watch the but can i say the listener. I mean i know other people listen to literally the only one that has ever responded us correct. Now we've had other responses guy for this one decided that we should watch nothing but trouble yes. Thank you matt purcell yes. I'm calling you out right now. Matt real name asked if we could watch nineteen ninety-one nothing but trouble. Oh the dan aykroyd starred direct. And i think dan ackroyd wrote this. Yeah with his son. Peter i assume with a scarface mountain of cocaine to fuel this entire thing. This is one of my least favorite movies of all time. Really which sucks. Because i love all of these people you know. I mean most taylor. He was probably the best part of the totally agree. Can you pronounce his name as characters name it was fausto yes but his last name. They have last names and i tried. It knows like noses squareness zoo. Good squared square Where were they from there From brazil i've remember this. They wanted to go with chevy chase's character of you know what never mind. I'm not even going to. Are we going to get into the plot of this. That is there a plot. There's a here so to raise a businessman and his friends are captured by said district judge and his equally odd family in the backwoods of a bizarre mansion. So if you haven't seen nothing but trouble. I'll put a link up to our website. There is a bad copy on youtube. I believe i watched but it could be fun. Yeah it had potential and a maybe miscast. Yeah chevy chase. They're so many of these movies that he just phones in a he doesn't even act like he's had. This seemed like it. Oh he was very upset that he was in this movie. But i mean i. You know everybody's heard that he's just kind of like classically at just an asshole classic ass. He's a real classic ass trivia on this movie that it failed horribly at the box office. Yes as a major flop. The film only made approximately eight point five million dollars at the box office. The budget was estimated at forty million. Yeah i've looked into this move for. I can't remember exactly where but like all of the special effects in it are practical. Mike how the house like transforms and that bedroom that kind of flips around like a murder by now. Yeah that shit. Fucking stacks up you know when everything is You know yeah up. Physical joke remained. Did they build the little Coaster that led to the bone strip. Probably the the bones. Strippers what it was. Yeah that was fun. Yeah yeah yeah. All that shit is great at all that like rube goldberg type Stuff but okay. John candy yes a dress twice in this. I think and gets married jane. He does he certainly. Does i wanna talk about it. I don't know either. It's silly yeah a couple of good jokes. Yeah it's disturbing. Mary disturbing one little pinch more and it would be a horror movie. Yes it feels like a texas chainsaw massacre to a little bit correct every much does and i think the chevy chase comedy which was just being himself an probably was mostly ad libbed on the set that can assume it's his normal bad jokes. That are totally off the wall. But one liners yet. That's all he has in. The film is just one. He says like fork you. I think there's like a fork in the road and he says fork you van level of I probably would've loved this film. Had i watched it when i was in third grade yes. It's very gross Dan aykroyd plays a judge that is in heavy makeup. He's kind of the antagonists and he's got a dick knows. I don't know any other way to say it. But his nose looks. Nick knows exactly like a day. It has a little like he. Whole like rita not only as judge bring in these four and hold them hostage basically. Yeah just so chevy chase can his daughter in which is john candy and drag. Yes but then we have several other people that are coming through this judges territory being pulled over and taken straight to the judge. it's a joke because you know they hide his nose the beginning but then everybody starts laughing at it which is also kind of weird when at near the end they guess they pulled over a hearse that had an entire band a digital underground with to puck and humpty hump who has a fake news or less knows. What's under that knows. I don't know i. There's a story but i don't to. I'd let let's not drag this out. Does it involve cocaine. Maybe the physical gags. Were kind of fun. You know it would. It's a home alone. Setting yeah traps everywhere a slide. That goes on forever. There are two. Oh god i knew your giant. I don't even know what they are. i don't either. They're supposed to be the judge's kids but they're twin blobs just wearing diapers and one of them is played by dan ackroyd. Yeah the other. One is some guy that duped into being in makeup. Poor darn In the Here is states. I it was based on dan. Ackroyd personal experiences in nineteen seventy eight when he did a but lodo cocaine and had a fever dream. I'm sorry i read into that. Yeah you're editorializing there. He was pulled over for speeding at a rural town northern and the northern united states. He's not even gonna name where it was. The police officer took him to the local. Just as the peace in the middle of the night for a trial so he had this idea for this screen. Play and it got out of hand. yeah cocaine do that. The film was originally darker. Handed tad more graphic. How ever when the test audiences reacted poorly. The film was reedited in its release. Date was pushed back the test him again. Yeah exactly ptsd. After that aykroyd later agreed to play the giant adult baby bobo. After no one else wanted to play the part yet checks out. They knew better. Yeah but cinematography by dean candy. I mean it was well shot. Yes he pops. Up in. So many movies i mean. He's done so many amazing movies. Several john carpenter movies in it. Actually the movie looks good. It's just all the stuff that happens when people start acting denecker kills a baldwin which i guess could be on the plus side of that okay so anyway. Nothing but trouble. I mean we don't need to go into great detail. 'cause a lot of people have already covered this Some other better. Podcasts had covered this. I would almost say that. I like spies like us more than this movie. You know. maybe. I should go revisit that because i don't remember enjoying spies like us. It's a slog. it's another of really like lost money. I assume all i remember is the zero g kind of thing where their smiles slightly right. Yes anyway that was the funniest part. Yep says bertillon demoss and taylor negron. They're playing brothers and sisters in the film spent a lot of time with one another during pre production rehearsing their building characters as they portrayed brother and sister in the film in fact they wrote most of their dialogue with dan aykroyd approval. And that's what. I think came apart with a lot of this. I mean just like chevy chase. I think he did. The same thing would just ad-lib ad-lib the entire thing on a it's probably what the taylor negron did. As well they just ad lib and said That's funny let's keep this it. It didn't work for me now. Dan ackroyd offered the to john hughes. Who was interested in the story but ultimately turned it down because he only directed his own scripts. Why is as 'cuse. I could honors of all john. Landis disliked the script and immediately turned it down. He knows a third any smells on smart moves while well to our listener. Good job thanks. Thanks for making me watches film. I don't remember watching this all the way through. Probably a much smarter person back then. Yeah but i watched it all the way through in in about six different settings right. Yeah i i feel like the same thing for me. Like i'd watch it in bits and pieces as it came on cable. Tv and stuff. Okay well i think that is. I think we've said all there is to say about that. Probably weiner knows john candy and address. And maybe dan ackroyd eating god. Dude eat 'em in those movie. He is eating like a giant hot dog in slushy condiments when i think of that movie. That's what i think of. And it makes me sick. Them stomach yes. Is it that any movie. That has dan ackroyd. Eating bothers you. Yes so far that. I mean two of the big ones you now. Eating salmon through dirty santa beard is probably the number one. God thanks dan. Yes cycling matt per cell for making me. Watch this film and talk about it for too long. Thanks matt yotaro heard all right. Let's get on with this yarn walling. Wrap this bitch right. We're real close. So our i as i said. I like to be a concise with my Thorough kevin bacon game. Also i think i might have brought it up at the very beginning but We don't call it. The kevin bacon game but in formerly. That's how we choose these movies. Right I think that we should replace kevin bacon with jack palance because he has been a through way for a couple of movies for me when we did Without warning what did i go to from that Oh if we only had memories. I i do remember using him to get to Edit all this out and then come back in with like something out. Whatever anyway so i think we should change it from the kevin bacon Seven degrees of kevin. Bacon to jack palance being the central figure. Now have a couple of names that i wanna run by. Jack's back which. I wasn't thrilled. Alan i tried to rhyme some Rhyme palance turns out. It's kind of hard to do except I came up with one. That sounds like it's like fox news. Show the pallets balance. Which i kind of. That's pretty good you. Then they get a little weirder Jacket with jack. Palance jack around. Jack and around the world all of that sounds like expensive. Yep yep 'cause. I usually have to pay a higher price yet to pay a premium for jagged around the world. I'm just putting that out. And it's definitely a patriotic exclusive. You don't know jack which i kind of liked i don't know we can. We can play around with it. But i like it that we're going to have our own gang literally like you cannot swing a cat and and not hit a jack pounds movie. Oh i also thought about wacko jacko because that's what they used to call. Michael jackson and i thought about jack palance dangling a baby out of a hotel window blanket or where red kept you busy for about seven minutes so anyway all right i dig that. I just think we should call it up. Maybe the parents. I that sounds the best to me but we can. We can play around with it. All right. So rod steiger who also you can link to anything apparently as we read and his trivia which we know that trivia doesn't lie lou everything on imdb cannon as far as we're concerned so it's killing me that i can't think of what that other movie was because i did the same thing i typed in an actor with jack palance and google that and of course a movie popped up rod steiger. Jack palance were in a movie called the big knife together. Wait the big the big knife. Wow how along ago as pre crocodile dundee so he wasn't there to say asked noise that movie Thanks so we're not going to spend any time on the big knife. I think it was black and white probably not going through trying to find. We don't have you trying to say that out that they were in say. Were in a movie other guys. Check it out if you don't believe me. The big knife was nineteen fifty five also. It had ida lupino strother martin shelley winters. Okay anyway He does look like dracula that like his hair is very dark. And it comes to like a widow's peak so from jack palance He's the bad guy in gore is the bad guy in the original gore. And i think he's in the The sequel to he plays xenos van. You want to see somebody. Like i m just doing this movie so i can like add another wing onto my house or buy mode or something like that the phone and it in but anyway but if you look at gore from rod steiger to jack palance and the big movie we said the big knife from jack palance to urbano barberini the titular care. Oh no it isn't. He isn't called gore. That's the name of the planet. I guess who fucking knows of vinnie. Barberie no is the name of the planet. Yep and freddie boom boom washington was he was a neighboring son. guess anyway urbano. Barberini is in one of my favorite italian horror. Movies of all time. Demons are a lambert burto. bava giant. Dario are john doe produce. Some say that it was kinda via poltergeist e. t. situation where I think we'll get way more in depth into this. But i think at lambeau volva was Or gento kind of his mentor. A little bit. And i believe that lambreau think his father is mario. Bava we'll get we'll get we'll we'll talk about all that bullshit later but Great movie so gory so scary It is just a real. Yeah are real moratorium movie. Because i found this and i was like holy shit. This is nineteen eighty five crime time. That is prime time Read it off. A group of random people are invited to a screening of a mysterious movie only to find themselves trapped in the theater with ravenous demands. Ravenous demons the plot of this is also just fucking great All of these people Get this kind of mysterious Know ticket off golden exactly. But i'm gonna walk right in to end my life. Beautiful tim thank you. I did not know that you could sing. Lumens don't know but Anyway called d. mony in italian Going oh yeah like the money in history of the world rose a song right. Dimona moon now man. Hey i'm gonna punch my son in. There is a billy idol They play a white wedding. And in this in the soundtrack for this movie aright well not so bad. also the soundtrack has I think goblin does a lot of The music which is Dr origin tos band. Nora man. I would love to get the vinyl album for this movie. It's got a lot of really good music in it. The composer is claudio does seminary courses simonetti who composed suspicious. Oh man Other music department for deep red. Yeah oh deep. Red also then has a awesome soundtrack and we knew we were gonna get into a bava and our gento soon enough. I think this comes at a great time. 'cause i'm really. I was really missing the italians lately. They do it in such a way. That is just like puts us shame. Sometimes also the actors. Don't mind going through hell to really get the best performing like throwing maggots adam. Barf ing up all of this stuff. Do you think it's like their screen actors guild. They don't have the protection. Maybe so so it's like you sign your name. Here is says he t see at the bottom. How whatever i wanna throw at you. I can do it one hundred percent. I believe that maggots got him. There's no such thing as a aspca come by and say hey right. You just stepped on like a thousand maggots. That's not even though they are small creatures. Who still can't do that. We're way stricter in american yes. Anyway has one of my favorite characters of all time the temp who kind of like takes over. He's very Very fred williams. Ask in fact if i if i found out that they wanted fred williamson or at four fred williamson i. I would not be surprised at all. It's got a real kind of carpenter vibe to the little bit because it's all one location. They're all running around in this theater. This huge theater. That is actually a theater in. I wanna say maybe germany the metropolitan. I could be wrong. But we'll talk about all this next week but anyway there you have to talk about. I've already got so much to talk about.
